Starship designed to replace the Ambassador and Oberth-Class starship as the primary instrument of Federation exploration. The Galaxy-Class starship was the first to feature a saucer section which could separate at will and reattach itself without a starbase layover. The Galaxy-Class project was conducted at Utopia Planitia Fleetyards, orbiting Mars
