History, Education and Skills
Family and Background :

Kusto grew up working the Nerrah family farm in Hill Province. After refusing to submit to the Cardassian rationing system by sneaking food to the neighbors, Kusto’s parents were marched away to a concentration mine, and the two Nerrah boys were never told of their whereabouts. Kusto, and his older brother, Arston were hurtled into the Resistance. Grabbing up what weaponry was left on the farm, the boys joined the chaotic fight for freedom.

Education

:

Having grown up on a farm, that is where Kusto was educated. He had intended to work the fields and watch over the livestock until he was tossed into the middle of the resistance. Being out of house and home, and depending heavily on old firearms, the team of Bajoran freedom fighter the Nerrah brothers had joined found need for restoration of weaponry. Kusto’s education in engineering began with the maintenance and repair of killing machines.

Pre-Starfleet History

:

After joining a band of several other young Bajoran freedom fighters, Kusto and Arston became well versed in the wages of war. Kusto became a hunter, but Arston was the strategist. He became skilled taking out the heads of command – creating the losses that would hurt the most. One particularly stifling afternoon the boys perched carefully in a crag overlooking a camp of Cardassian officials, Kusto aiming for one of the men standing off to the side of the camp and Arston trying to decide who was the commander. As they lay outstretched on their bellies concentrating on their prey, they didn’t notice the rather heavily muscled Cardassian lurking behind ready to ambush them. Luckily, the aggressor had no firearm so killing the Bajoran young men wasn’t going to be as simple as would have been imagined. Instead, the Cardassian decided to beat them to death, one-by-one, starting with the eldest. He managed to break both of Arston’s legs and knock him unconscious before Kusto took hold of the dagger hanging at his side and shoved it into the throat of the assailant leaving him sputtering for breath and bleeding to death.

Starfleet History

:

It was in Starfleet where Kusto got a real education of engines. His involvement in the resistance helped him to develop what he calls his “work face.” When on-duty or when called to work Kusto becomes strict and more disciplined, choosing to focus on the work at hand rather than his outside life.

Medical History

:

None to speak of

Skills

Nerrah is a thorough worker which is a quality that often gets him assigned along with Henri Croix, a fast worker, to emergency repair. Everything is does is done to the best of his ability and his background gives him the drive even to shove himself into tight places to get his work finished.
