He also began to feel guilty about what had happened. If only he had not acted like an idiot! “Sir, kindly scoot over to the gurney and we will be more than happy to move you to your next biobed.” The medic stated politely, but in such a way that implied none of the silly business of walking would be entertained. Stan did as he was told. He caused these good people enough trouble. “ Aye.” He replied Stan was moved to another part of sickbay. Slowly he got up and shuffled to another bio bed. He slowly laid down. At least from here he could see Erin better. He would have to face her and the rest of them. Including Ravok. His ancestors the ancient highlanders. Would burn those who had shamed themselves in battle to death. Sometimes a slower more lingering demise was called upon. After being beaten they would put the shameful in a cage. Which was hung up on a post outside the clan castle. The person inside was then left to starve to death. “ I can’t wear yellow again...” Stan said Dural then appeared holding two vials and two bags of a clear liquid. “Stan, may I call you Stan?” Dural asked. “ Yes Doctor...” Stan said “We are going to have to set up an intravenous infusion for the two medications that Doctor Bracken ordered. I want to be sure that we don’t have any adverse reactions, so we’ll give those medications slowly over a period of time rather than instantaneously with a blast of the hypospray. Do you understand?” “ Actually I do. You see I was a scientist before I swapped departments. Botany and biology are my specialist subjects. So I know what is happing here.” Stan said “Good.” Dural said, “to start we’ll have to set you up with our Starfleet issue medical infusion set. Your arm goes in this ring, which mounts to the biobed. The ring accesses the veins in your arm, you might feel a slight pinch when they do. The system will give you the medication at a slow rate so we can monitor your progress. It works best if you lay still. So once we start this up, my recommendation is to take a nap and by the time you wake up the infusion should be complete.” “ Thank you sir. Doctor? How is Erin?” Stan asked. ( Reply , Methor ) (USS Exeter – Sickbay – ACMO – Ensign Dural Methor DrPH – 0142) “ Thank you sir. Doctor? How is Erin?” Stan asked. “Ms. Cortez is not my patient and so I am not privileged to know her condition,” Dural began explaining. “You may feel a pinch,” Dural interrupted his own speech to warn Stan about the placing of the medical apparatus. “However, if I did know of explicit details of her condition, as you are not her supervisor or next of kin, I wouldn’t be able to share them with you anyway, in regards to her privacy.” Dural explained while he placed the two bags of liquid inside two separate hard outer casing that were attached to a bracket on the side of the bed. “You understand?” (Reply More) “I knew you would catch on.” Dural said graciously. He affixed two separate sets of clear tubing from the bag to the ring bracket on More’s arm running it through a channel on the biobed. The Cardassian tapped a button on the bed and liquid from the bags started moving through the tubing, as air was being moved out of the tubing. Little puffs of air were audible to those with a keen enough ear as the unit was purging all the air out of the line. “I’m sure as soon as she’s up, however, she will be able to take visitors.” (Reply More) “We will let you know.” Dural assured him. He performed some calculations in his head, and placed the two vials in two separate slots on the side of the casings holding the bags. He pressed in some commands and the vials emptied into the bags. He removed the vials and set the infusion rate, and several bed alarms. “Now would be a good time to get some rest.” (Reply More) “I have more patients to attend to now Stan if you’ll excuse me.” Dural said and left to go do just that. (Reply More, any who also need to be treated from the holodeck incident) (USS Exeter – Sickbay - Tac/Sec Ens.( Sg ) Ens. Stan More - 01:43 ) Stan was beginning to like Dr Methor. The man stood up for his principals. More should never of asked him about Erin. His response told Stan that here was someone you could trust. “ Sorry sir. I should nay of asked.” Stan said. “I knew you would catch on.” Dural said graciously. “I’m sure as soon as she’s up, however, she will be able to take visitors.” “ Really? When do you think that could be?” More asked. “We will let you know.” Dural assured him. He performed some calculations in his head, and placed the two vials in two separate slots on the side of the casings holding the bags. He pressed in some commands and the vials emptied into the bags. He removed the vials and set the infusion rate, and several bed alarms. “Now would be a good time to get some rest.” “ Thank ye. I could just do with a wee nap.” Stan said Slowly he closed his eyes. ( Reply , None ) (USS Exeter – Deck 3- Merek /Shara shared quarters – 2O/CEO Lieutenant Commander Keira Merek & CTO/3O Lieutenant Sg Ravok – 0227) Ravok wasted no time hurrying back to their quarters. Rayna was sound asleep. He jumped in the shower opting to use the water option and not the sonic shower. He finished in the shower and got out and dried off. He looked at himself in the mirror, leaning over the sink. He felt nauseous. He snapped himself out of it when her heard Keira enter the quarters Keira heard movement in the lavatory after she entered their quarters. The cadence of the movement let her know it was Ravok. He walked out the bathroom and flopped on the bed with the towel still wrapped around his waist. He didn't care about modesty at the moment. He was just thankful to be in his bed. To her he seemed a little, not quite himself. Based off of a glance earlier at a casualty list, he likely was devastated with the passing of his cousin. She couldn't deny, in the brief time she knew her even Keira felt a distinct loss. The woman had a bright future, snuffed out by a mad woman. She was so intelligent and kind, and Rayna idolized her. ~ Oh, Freya, Rayna, how are we going to tell her?~ She approached him, laying there on their shared bed. She was unsure of what to say or, how exactly to say it. He looked down at the foot of the bed, looking at Keira and smiled. He was happy to see her. His mind was in a million places but knowing she was home now made him feel better. "You made it back to me Lathuel," she said quietly, but still full of relief. "Rough day?" Ravok sighed. " Yeah you could say that. Erin was down , Nesha is dead. Ensign More collapsed. She's gone. " "Yeah, I heard." Her face turned to a frown. "Are you?….how are you?…. I'm so sorry for your loss." " I don't know to be honest. I've lost so many people that I cared for. I guess I just feel the need to care for the ones left even more. It's hard to explain. I'll mourn their losses in my way." He responded Feeling a panging need to comfort him she kicked her uniform boots off, removed her singed jacket and climbed into bed with him. ~ Please don't shave your head and don the tattoos of mourning…~ " The past 24 hours have been absolutely insane. I know we lost only a handful but it may as well have been dozens..hundreds. " Ravok remarked his voice almost cracking. She settled in laying beside him, her head in the crook of his shoulder and her hand on his bare chest. "If it makes you feel any better, I planned on decking her real hard when you brought her out in binders." She said trying to lighten the somber mood. Ravok laughed slightly. " Well it seems like Ire handled business in there and got to her first. "Really? Ire?" Keira said, astonished, "What happened in there?" Ravok shook his head. " I don't know. A full report hasn't been done yet. At this point I can only speculate from what I saw." “I’d certainly like to read the reports when they come through.” Keira admitted. " I'm sure you'll be briefed commander." Ravok stayed with a laugh. “I was about to pour myself something to drink, when you came in. Would you like something too?” Keira asked. " I should say no, but I definitely need one right about now. " He said as he motioned for her to get up. Keira grinned, the ability to have a very duty driven man do things that he knows he shouldn't, made her feel powerful in a risqué way. "What'll you have, then?" She asked after she rolled off the bed and plopped up to her feet. " I'll have what you're having." Ravok answered as he went to the dresser to get some sleepwear to throw on real quick. "Well, I had an appointment with a finger of Aldebaran Whiskey, before this whole mess started." She said now already at the replicator. " Aldebaran Whiskey," she ordered and then elaborated, "two separate single servings." She rounded the dining table going clockwise instead of just returning the same way she came, carrying two tumblers of pale green cloudy liquid. She handed one to him. He took it from her and drank it without hesitation. She swirled the liquid in her glass before taking a sip. "How are we going to tell Rayna about her Auntie Nesha?" Ravok looked at his glass. " Her own mother abandoned her. I came into the picture and her aunt left her life. She's had to deal with so much change. They say it's better to deal with drastic changes early on, but I see how she looks at the...world around her. She takes in every detail. She may not be able to put it into words or even know what words to use, but she understands things." Ravok took another drink. " I am going to tell her the truth. I don't lie to people, you know this so why start with her? No , I am going to tell her the truth. Nesha is dead because there are bad people who do bad things. Hopefully she uses her ability to understand things to decide to be a good person who can grow up to stop bad people from doing those bad things." "Oh, I didn't mean telling any lies," Keira said, shaking her head. "I was referring more to timing and word selection, but it seems you have that more under control than I would." " I know this sounds strange, but I have this feeling in the pit of my stomach that this entire thing isn't over." Ravok said. "How so?" Keira asked out of curiosity. He took another drink. " When the transport sequence finalized I heard a voice in the holodeck. I shrugged it off as my only objective was to go in and see if people were ok. The voice said something about being just a footnote in history. Call it being exhausted, paranoid or even call it being a romulan ,but I feel like there is a storm coming. One that we are nowhere near prepared for. The attack on earth 2 years ago, the attacks that lead to our battles in the fighter wing. Tyko Nix was murdered for his knowledge of the mind swapping technology and for all of that to end with a death game on the holodeck. It's too messy, too convenient. " He said standing up quickly and consumed the rest of his drink. "I see what you're saying," she said finishing her own drink. "She had Tyko killed for knowing too much, the game was just her taking the time to gloat." He walked over to the dresser and turned away from her. " We aren't ready" he turned back and looked at her. " I'm not ready." "Do you think what you are talking about is what Mom said was coming? Do you think they could be the same thing or related in some way?" She said and collected the glasses to recycle. Ravok shook his head. " I don't know maybe. " He laughed, feeling somewhat embarrassed for sounding like an idiot. " Maybe I'm just tired. I've been looking for answers all day ,perhaps my mind just needs to shutdown and relax." Keira punched commands into the replicator that disassembled the two glasses atom by atom in the blink of an eye converting them to energy and reabsorbed into the ship's power grid. "Rest would do us both some good," she admitted. " Yeah, your right." Keira picked her jacket off the floor before Ravok said anything about it and removed the pips, communicator and the two long stiletto-like throwing knives she kept hidden in the seams, placing them all on her night stand. She threw the now bare jacket in the recycling hamper. "You don't have to wait up," she told him. "I think I'll hop in the sonic shower to knock the yuck off me. It would take too long for my hair to dry and I don't want to go to bed with wet hair." Ravok sat back down on the bed. " I don't think I'll get much sleep, but I'll try." As Keira walked to the shower Ravok looked out the window. The ambient noise of the ship around them was relaxing, but it couldn't ease his mind. ( reply none) (USS Exeter –Sickbay - FO Cmdr Ailynn Bracken and CSO Lt(jg) Erin Cortez – 0501) Ailynn stepped out of the lift, and back into sickbay. The day had been quite long, but thankfully now was coming close to an end, and with the prospect of date night ahead, snuggled under a blanket with a bottle of something, a bowl of snacks and a movie, there was only one more thing to do. Stepping across the floor, she nodded a greeting to a couple of the nurses at the nurses station and motioned toward bay 1, where Erin was lying. She reached Erin’s bedside, and sat down carefully, noticing that Erin was sleeping, she tapped a couple of buttons to look at the last load of obs. Breathing deeply, Erin’s eyes opened and saw Ailynn looking at her chart. Taking a deep lungful of air, she croaked, "Private…. That…" Ailynn smiled, and stood up, leaning over and giving her friend a gentle kiss on the forehead. “Welcome back sweetie, I was so worried about you.” she brushed a few strands of hair out of Erin’s eyes. “As to the chart, well, Medical privilege. I’m still certified as a medic on the ship you know.” "Any… excuse…" she replied, as she tried to sit up a little. Failing, she dropped back onto the pillow and coughed. "Water?" Ailynn nodded, and turned round slightly, picking up a container with a straw and with practiced ease, gently slipped her arm under Erin’s shoulders and helped tilt her head slightly, moving the straw into her mouth. The water inside was chilled. “Not too much, you’ll choke.” Taking a little sip, Erin nodded her thanks and lay back. Looking at her friend, she blinked a couple of times, "A…. What… happened…. After…?" Ailynn sat down, reaching out and held Erin’s hand. “Of the hostages, we lost 2, Clarke, and Nesha. Beyond that...I don’t want to really expand on things until you’re well enough to be discharged, and then we’ll get a statement from you.” she sighed deeply. “This was a bad one E. We’re all shaken by it all.” She nodded, sighed and closed her eyes briefly. A flash passed before her eyes, 'Maxine' pointing at her. Opening her eyes, she knew that there was an explanation due, one that she needed someone to hear. "A…. Did I…. go?" Ailynn tilted her head back, deep in thought, before looking back at her friend. “Medically...no. But, and this is a big but. That was only because of the skill of the Doctors attending, it wouldn’t have taken much to lose you. I was first on scene with you.” She sighed again, thinking again about how Erin had been. “It took every atom of my considerable skill to detect a pulse.” "I… I'm sorry…" she replied, a tear welling up in her eyes. "A…. I….." Ailynn stood up, and perched next to her on the bed. “Erin...you have nothing to apologise for. As much as we all want to blame ourselves, and wallow, myself included, This was not our doing.” "No…. Not that.. I… caused Nesha…" Erin took several shallow breaths, "...she died because of me…" Turning her head, she lifted her hand slowly and wiped her eyes. Feeling herself tear up too, Ailynn took a breath, and dabbed Erin’s eyes with her cuff. “Erin…” she began. “I’ve seen all the statements made, and believe me, there is nothing that you could have done. You’ve done more courses about sociopathy and psychopathy than I have; emotion aside, what would your assessment be? The position that Maxine had you in, was there ever a way out where no one was going to get hurt?” "No…. " “No, and we know that because what was her first move? She killed Clarke for no reason. This wasn’t just kings pawn to kings pawn 3...this was taking an axe to the board just to say @#!$ you.” Erin closed her eyes, seeing Clarke fall and hearing herself scream again, she trembled a little. "I… shouted… refused to play…. She killed nesha because of that." Ailynn nodded. “Honey. She played all of you; each of you at your weakness. The trap was designed for each of you to fail. The fact that you didn’t says a lot. Nesha died, and we will always grieve her loss, but your hands are clean, no fault can be laid at your feet, and no accusation can be levelled toward your actions.” "I… thought I was …. Gone… and I welcomed it… because of what…. " Erin paused, took a breath, ".... I know… I know it would have happened anyway…. But, I…. For my sins, I welcomed it…" she looked away, not wanting to see the look of concern that would undoubtedly be on her friend’s face. Ailynn looked sadly to her friend. “I told you about what happened back in the badlands? Did I tell you all of it? I told you that one of the prophets took Dad’s shape, and I spoke to him, as he would have been?” Erin nodded slightly, her gaze still away. She knew what she had said and she knew that Ailynn, of all people, would understand. “I didn’t tell you something...I didn’t tell you that I was literally at death's door, and that I didn’t want to come back. I wanted to stay with him. So it’s okay. It speaks of your strength, at a time when no one would blame you for just turning over, that you would make that choice to say no...and come back.” "I thought … about it. Where I was… I was offered the choice… I wanted to stay… wanted not to come back and face him… but I couldn't. He deserves to know…. Why she died…" Erin spoke, looking back at her friend, she took her hand and gripped it tight, "That and … you… kick my ass if I didn't come back…" she smiled, laughed a little and coughed heavily. Ailynn smiled, and passed her the water once more. Taking a sip, Erin lay back on the bed again. “Hey, don’t look at me, it’s only because Caity seems fond of you for some reason. I’m just keeping my girlfriend on side.” She winked to tell her that she was only teasing. "Good…. Woman… Clever… " Pausing, Erin looked at her and smiled, "A, I can't… face him. He's going to hate me…. For what happened." Ailynn gripped Erin’s hand, looking gently at her. “Erin...I don’t pretend to know Ravok as well as you, or even as well as I’d like to, but I rather think that given the circumstances, that he’ll understand that the blame lies elsewhere. You can’t run again E but only you though can come to that realisation.” "I know…. Can't run right now anyway…. Would fall over." She replied, smiling softly. Ailynn laughed gently. “You dippy mare. You gave us a scare you know. All of us.” "Next time… will just say BOO." Erin replied, "less painful that way." Sighing as she held Erin’s hand, Ailynn spoke gently. “You said that you were offered the choice?” "Yes…. Two doors. One forward, move on…. One back here… sounds crazy…. I know." Ailynn looked at her friend, but said nothing. If she’d have been asked about the ‘beyond’ even only a few months ago, Ailynn would freely admit that she’d have...raised doubts. Now though, she sat in complete silence, and simply nodded, understanding her closest friend completely. "But… it happened. Well, something… did… I… chose…." Erin looked at her friend and sighed, "Don't…. Tell Trip…. Thinks I'm crazy …. As it is.." Ailynn shook her head gently. “Doctor Patient privilege, besides, I told you my crazy post death story.” She reached up, and ran her fingers gently through her friends hair. “What you feel and believe happened, is entirely up to you, no one else has a right to question it, any more than they have to question me about my conviction that I spoke to Dad, or rather a prophet manifesting as him.” Erin nodded and sighed, her eyes felt heavy as she looked at Ailynn. "I scared you…. " Ailynn looked at Erin, regarding her as she lay on the biobed. “Yeah you did. I don’t have so many friends that I can lose one that easy you goofball. Apart from that, For some reason, and I have no idea why, but Caity seems fond of you. If you died, she’d be crying and she hasn’t the complexion to look dainty when she does it.” Ailynn winked gently. Erin’s eyes closed slowly as she spoke, her voice getting softer, "Good woman… be kind to her… " she took a deep breath and yawned a little. Ailynn watched as her friend's eyes grew heavier once more. Smiling gently to herself, she pulled up the blanket that was covering Erin, and tucked it up over her shoulders in almost a maternal gesture. Then making sure her face and chin were free to breathe, she smiled once more, and on a whim, leant forward and kissed Erin gently on the top of the head. “Sleep well crazy chick.” She whispered as she moved away from the bed, and nodded once more to the nurses. As Erin drifted off to sleep, the knowledge that she had made the right choice flew into her brain and she smiled, softly as her breathing became that little bit easier . (USS Exeter – FO’s Office - FO Cmdr Ailynn Bracken and former FFO Adm Emmi Greene(Retd) - 0820) Ailynn sipped her coffee, the cup annoying her. She wasn’t a ‘cup’ person, but it seemed that whoever on the last vestiges of the night shift that laid her desk out, saw fit to put a cup on her desk. The cup had bunnies on it. ~What kind of psychopath put’s bunnies on cups? Bunnies are for Pyjamas, not cups. I’m surrounded by imbecelles.~ She sipped the admittedly rather fabulous coffee out of Peter Rabbit, and thoughts began to settle themselves in her mind. There were people who truly understood her, her mum had tried, Dale too, but she had eclipsed both of them. There was one person who she had always been able to turn to, that she always felt could understand the torture of her own intellect. “Computer…” she sighed. “Connect contact number 1, secure, Command authorisation Bracken-iota-kappa-six” The seconds seemed like years, eventually, a ladies face appeared onscreen, the only face that had ever truly understood her. (Earth - England - Greene Family Estate) Her fingers moving slower than she wanted and than they used to Emmi had accepted the secure Comms and opened the channel, she smiled at the young woman in red looking back at her, as time went on Emmi saw two very important people in her life defined in this woman's features; but a fierceness that only Ailynn had. “Morning ‘G’.” She sighed and regarded the older lady, “I have had a day like only you would believe.” Chuckling Emmi saw the mug but decided not to comment, just yet. "Well look at you, what's wrong?" Ailynn looked into the eyes of her father’s mother, a very highly respected Admiral in her time, still was come to that, albeit retired a while now. “Just a courtessssy...calll?” she ventured. "Now you don't call me up in the middle of the evening on Earth and pretend nothings up, those three pips might stop your crew from getting in but it won't stop me. The truth, I'm not Aimee you can talk to me." Ailynn sighed, Emmi always could just walk through the armour she she’d put up, knew exactly where all the chinks in it were. “Bad day Grannie. Only had a couple of hours sleep since yesterday...sometime” "That explains the mug" she sighed, a concern grew in the back of Emmi's mind right away, stress and lack of sleep were never a good mixture. "Go on…." “I can’t say much yet, I’ll fill you in when our report has been filed. Five deaths, hostages taken and tortured. I had to lead a team on a very risky beam in to one of our holodecks; and I feel like I failed them.” Emmi laughed hard "I was signing confidential reports before you were walking, it's very odd for an Admiral to be told no, you've got Dales backbone child." Emmi gave her warm smile "and what's made you feel you've failed your crew?" Ailynn sighed. “Honestly I don’t know...It just feels like I wasn’t enough, wasn’t quick enough, didn’t try hard enough. Like I’m too stupid...you know? And I know that that isn’t true...” "Well, if you feel it's true, who are we to argue" Emmi had always been a hands on Doctor, even when she moved to command she kept the personal approach, her years of training had always amounted to one thing, don't outright disagree; allow the patient to change their own mind. “I know. I faced down a Bajoran cultist possessed by a Pah Wraith for crying out loud. It’s just...I’m just reacting badly to failure I suppose.” Alynn sighed. "I would think your service record says otherwise, First officer at such a young age, it's different from my day yes, but it's stands for something." Emmi looked deep into the screen, times like this she urged to be at her only Granddaughters side, she loved her more than Ailynn could ever know; she always saw her only Son. “You knew mum when she was about my age...was she ever as neurotic as I am?” Ailynn asked gently. She utterly idolised her gran, they’d always just..got each other. Emmi laughed hard, it was always the same with the Brackens. "What is your obsession with looking backwards? Leave that to the old and nearly dead; of which you are neither. Aimee is one of a kind with a complex and frankly disturbing past" Emmi pointed to the screen "don't you ever tell her I said that by the way, but her past is not your past, her issues are not yours and her grief isn't on your shoulders. You need to stop comparing yourself to the successes and failures of your mother, you're not Aimee Bracken." “I know, it’s just that…” Ailynn began, the catharticism of opening up to her oldest confidante was gently seeping into her soul. "And don't argue with me young lady, unless you want an old style Grannie sat on your bridge. Now the truth, what's really going on?" Ailynn sighed, and grunted. “You’re an infuriating old woman d’you know that?” she said with a playful smile on her face. Sighing once more, she regarded the woman on the screen, wishing that she could be sitting next to her, with a cup of that fragrant tea that she always gave her, a recipe that she had tried for years to replicate, but the replicated versions tasted like dishwater. They’d sat, countless times in Emmi’s garden, on the small two seater swing overlooking the aromatic wonder of her herb garden. “The present I can compete with, and be the best, the past I can overcome, learn from it’s failure and temper myself against; the future...Uncertain the future is.” "Despite what I've said, our future is dependent on us learning the lessons from our pasts, but it is your past, present and future; your path to walk alone" Emmi sighed, not out of frustration, she enjoyed the family conversations, but this was a conversation that every command officer that served with her and every cadet had had with her. "What's brought this on?" “I dunno, I guess I’m being wistful, reflective, end of the mission stuff. Looking forward…”She sighed. “I told you about Caity? My Girlfriend?” She sighed as she sipped at the coffee. Emmi looked at the glint in her Granddaughters eye "not yet, but go on" “Grannie, you understand my job, it’s so stupidly dangerous no sane person would think of it. It’s my job to lead a team of people into situations that could, would, and very well may get us all killed, I’m supposed to be the one with the answers, but here’s the thing…” "Fear?" Emmi interrupted, not trying to be harsh but more instinct. “You know me far too fracking well,” she emoted. “Yes Grannie, I’m scared; I’m scared of the future. I’m scared that if I commit to a relationship, and I mean properly commit, that she’ll get that call, you know? The one that begins ‘Miss DuBois’ and ends ‘she was brave.’” Emmi took a moment and ran a few conversations through her head. She covered the silence with a sip, she looked down at the cup, at the chip that was in it. A memory came back of Mil at nine handing her and Nicolea matching cups, flashforward to him storming her bridge when he defected. She looked back at the screen "Your father made me this mug, I've cherished it for well over 50 years, it's been with me through more commands than I need or want to remember. I've fixed it so many times when it's chipped, I've put so much effort into nurturing it, protecting it so I can enjoy it more; it's no use to anyone but me but I love it. It makes me happy to hold it, it's mine. If something is worth the effort, it makes you warm and unexplainably fuzzy inside take the jump." “And the sacrifice? The danger? The very real fact that I could be dead...tomorrow?” Ailynn’s voice was quiet, gentle, and genuinely questioning. "That call? That's her choice not yours." Ailynn smiled warmly, “She said pretty much the same thing. Said it was worth the danger. Seems like you two might get on well. She’s kind, gentle, clever, and she grounds me.” "She sounds wise beyond her years" Emmi smiled again, glad that after a tempestuous start Ailynn had found someone. “Does it ever go away? The feeling that you want to see what’s over the next hill I mean.” Pondering the question fully Emmi thought about telling her of all the conversions she had with Captains in her fleet, how a previous powerful officer once sat in her office terrified because she had lost her crew, how a young Doctor spent all night on her couch. ~youve given her the speech about focusing on the future, enough advice, let her work it out.~ Emmi smiled "if it did, you wouldn't be out there rebuilding the Federation and from what I read, you're doing a great job." Smiling gently, Ailynn nodded. Emma had always known how to cheer her up. "I suppose there aren't many girls in their late 20s who have become the best neurosurgeon in the field, rebuilt a hospital, and become First Officer on one of the Fleets newest and most advanced starships. It's not bad going." "You've got good genes" Emmi winked and laughed, the women in their families had always been high achievers. She sighed. "I've been so rude how are you Grannie?" "Oh you really want to hear about how I've been tending the garden, keeping up with the Joneses. Im envious, one last fling amongst the stars would be nice. I'm planning a trip to the Gamma Quadrant, review some of the settlements for Starfleet, not the same as running a fleet but keeps the grey matter going keeps the dust off the old noggen" Emmi laughed again She looked at the screen and into Ailynns eyes "how's my grandson?" “He’s...He’s good, a little of the gruff side, doesn’t suffer fools any, but…” she smiled. “He’s got a kind heart under there. He’s seeing a horribly gorgeous Flight Officer called Ronnie, she used to work with Dale, baffles me how they connect, but opposites attract and all that.” She winked playfully. "Hmm" Emmi had asked more out of pleasantries than anything else. The stain that was Gaberal Vespers had plagued her family for long enough, she had never forgiven that Woman for what she had done, Aimee and Mil had a future and now the memory of her only child was marred by a bastard child. “I need to spend some time with him actually, I’ve been such a bad sister. Although to be fair, in my defense he’s been in iso for a while. A kind of flu of all things.” "I'm sure if he needed to return to earth for recuperation it could be arranged. Be careful there Ailynn, you have your own troubles to keep at bay, don't take his too." Ailynn’s annoyance flashed. “Don’t worry, I’m not taking on anyone’s troubles, also however I’m not tarring someone with somebody else’s issues.” Emmi held her hand up "peace...I come from another time and place, my memories are not mine to transfer to you. This whole family is just so complicated. He's your half brother of course you're going to care for him, just please, there is a lot you don't know about it all, about him, promise me you'll put yourself first." Emmi hoped her face was saying enough to send the message to Ailynn, deep down she loved them both but Gabe had caused so much hurt growing she struggled to forgive. Ailynn regarded her gran and simply nodded, and a world of unasked questions and unspoken answers swam between them. “I’m sorry to be snappy. Love you grannie, I’ll be careful. Speak soon, Bracken out.” (Reply none) (USS Exeter – Counselling offices– MedIntern aEns Lana Wakeman and Lt(jg) Counselor Victoria Corsica – 0933) After the events outside and with in the holodeck Victoria found it difficult to find any meaningful sleep. Emotions were high, and having felt what happened with in that small room was difficult. Having to come to terms with what happened would take time. Victoria glanced up when her door opened and Wakeman walked into her office. “Counsellor Corsica?” She smiled demurely. “Please forgive me Ma’am.” she smiled. “I’ve been asked to report yourself, with regard to last nights….” she sighed, a look of sadness on her face and filling her eyes once more. “...Events.” She motioned to a near by seat. "Of course." “Thank you Ma’am” “I…like…I don’t know where to start.” Lana’s voice had a tremble to it. "And that's ok," Corsica spoke kindly. "We can start wherever you feel comfortable." “I’ve done two years nursing, seen things that would make your toes curl, but last night was the first time I like…saw someone killed…like…for no reason. None at all.” "Unfortunately, those people exist losing a life is never easy. For someone that person was important. As a nurse and what you've seen you learned to rationalize life and death. But now you find yourself outside your comfort zone, with something that you can't rationalize, am I right?" “More than you know, She killed the first one just to make a point. The second to torture someone else, tried to kill Erin when Stan wouldn’t play. Every step, everything that someone tried upping the stakes, she did something so horrific that we were reminded. I like, can’t even… I laughed…” she realized in horror. “At some point…What she was doing, it got to me so much…my nerves must have…” Her nerve broke. “I’m sorry Counsellor. I can’t do this…not now…another date maybe. This is…I feel so guilty.” She left the room hurriedly. (Reply none) (USS Exeter – Main Engineering, CEO’s Office – 2O/CEO – Lt. Cmdr. Keira Merek – 0935) The conversation that Keira and Ravok had last night was a little unsettling. What her mother had warned her about, seemed more likely to come to fruition. She allowed herself a late start to the morning, excusing herself from the normal morning physical training, she did almost get electrocuted and blown up, after all. At 0800 she found herself in the science labs, dismantling the “subspace sonar” she had constructed, that ended up being not needed. She still couldn’t wrap her head around why someone as experienced as Tyko would leave his door opened allowing someone in to do him harm. ~If your enemies know where you are, don’t be there.~ After shutting down and removing her equipment she sent a message to Erin, via official channels giving the OK to resume all subspace sensitive experimentation. With all that completed and packed away, the next task for Engineering was the checking of the Holodeck and holographic systems. Since the site to site was used to kidnap officers she thought it a good idea to include the transporter systems in that as well, and make sure the Operations office gets a new console. “Merek to all Engineering Staff, meeting in Engineering at 1030 hours. "Look, you and I, we both have each other and we have family here. Where else should we be? When was the last time you did anything for fun with your sister?" Gabe sat and pondered "I don't think we've actually ever done anything fun, you seem to know her better than I do." "Anyways, I love you the way you are, and I would never try and change you, unless you wear something garishly awful. But eventually, one of these days, I will get you to lighten up enough to enjoy the little things in life. Honestly, I think you just need to get laid." Ronnie paused, "But it's gonna have to be someone else other than me. As confident as I am in me, in us, and all that, I'm just not ready for that. And I'm confident enough in who you are and how much you care, that I know you won't rush me." ~damn it~ "my attitude protects me, you know that" "For some reason, unbeknownst to me. I love you Gabe Vesper." She said as she kissed his cheek. "But I've got errands to run, so I will see you later." Ronnie then smiled and skipped out of the room. There was nothing quite like getting a red alert call at stupid o-clock in the morning. ~Well you wanted normal you should have stayed as we wrecker rather than joining ships~ He paused from his reflection and looked over at Merek as he stared the meeting. (Reply Merek, Brightwood, Hammerfield, Anra) (USS Exeter – Main Engineering – 2O/CEO – Lt. Cmdr. – Keira Merek – 1035) Keira nodded back to Hammerfield and waited for the remainder of those invited to show up. Slowly the small group of Engineering’s leadership gathered together. Some small conversations started between colleagues. She waited a few moments for conversations naturally end or slow down before speaking. “Looks like everyone I was expecting,” Keira said, and waited a few moments for the conversations to cease. She was never one to mince words, so she got right to it. “We had an eventful night. I brought you all in for this meeting because of the events that transpired. The holodeck, specifically number three and transporters were used to kidnap members of our crew to amuse the whims of a mad-woman. The Captain ordered an overhaul of the holodeck. That means a level four diagnostic needs to be performed on all holosystems. Because of the involvement of the transporters, I’m adding that to the list.” She took a sip of her hot caffeinated beverage before continuing. “In addition to locking command out of said systems, and using the holodeck to injure and kill our crew, a malicious sub-routine was added that caused a feedback loop destroying the main console in the Operations Office. So our checks in addition to the standard level four diagnostics will also be looking for additional hardware or malicious worms, viruses or foreign code that could hamper function or give control to any outside organization or individuals.” She said. “Any questions, problems, concerns or addendums so far?” (Reply Hammerfield, Vozi, Anra, IYW) After questions or comments Keira laid out the basic plan. “Brightwood has been kind enough to volunteer to run engineering with a handful of enlisted, leaving everyone else to perform the diagnostics. We will be checking everything, opening every hatch, hand scanning every part. Luckily we only will have to disassemble something if you get an abnormal reading. If we keep everything on schedule and everything checks out, we should be able to complete all the diagnostics by 2200 tonight. It will of course take longer if we run into any problems.” (Reply Hammerfield, Vozi, Anra) ( USS Exeter - Counselor Office- Chief Counselor, Lt.(jg) Victoria Corsica- 11:17 ) =/\=More to Commander Counsellor Corsica come in please. =/\= Victoria heard More's voice come over the comm's. Taking a sip of water as Roberts asked him the question he'd been dreading. "Well lets focus on that word you used. Useless." Jack said with a smile. "Is that how you felt? Trapped? Useless?" "Yes trapped in that field, not being able to help or do anything, yes I felt useless." "Why don't we explore that. Would you say, that its just a general feeling of uselessness or was it more than that?" "I'm sorry I don't follow" Sleeford was puzzled, the question had caught him unawares, the events had made him feel like a small child. "Because the thing with uselessness is it can manifest itself in a variety of different ways. It can manifest itself as a feeling as being trapped, or as a sense of hopelessness. It can also seem like despair, a paralyzing fear. So when you were trapped, seeing what was going on, how did the uselessness manifest?" Sleeford looked at the floor for several seconds, both composing his thoughts and trying to find the right words that would cause the least harm to others, in both their future careers and well being. "I was held in a field and watched as people I respect, where forced to do things against their nature, I watched people who I thought where strong, crumble like a sand wall, people who I regarded as strong, reliable and good to work as a team, sit like a petulant child who'd been told that they can have no more cookies. I watched as three people where murdered with more thought then I use when placing a mug back in the replicator and all the while stood there unable to do anything." Pausing Sleeford took a deep breath and slowly released it and realise that his anger was rising, taking another breath he closed his eyes and swallowed.. Do you think it is a habit or more of a crutch or a security blanket?" Laughing Sleeford smiled, "Habit pure and simple, it was something drummed into during training, 'Never be without a means to fight back' I can still see the instructor, an old Klingon warrior, snarling with disgust that none of us had a blade on us at the start of boot camp. Mind you in retrospect I think it may have been because he was an old Klingon Warrior, may I ask why?" | "Because sometimes, there are certain things we carry around as habit, something that felt so normal. (Replies none) (USS Exeter – Personal quarters – SPC Armory Chief PO2 Sytuk – 1545) After his shift. Sytuk returned to his quarters. Everytime he walked in he looked into the second bedroom. A part of him hoping a member of the crew had been assigned to share the quarters with him. It had been months and not a single person had been assigned. He cleaned him up and looked in his closet for something to wear. His wardrobe was one of the saddest sights on the entire ship. He had weighted workout clothing and his uniforms. He grabbed another uniform and put it on and looked at himself in the mirror. His Reman eyes examining the features of his reflection. His face was the only remanface aboard. He felt his stomach rumble. " Well I live alone , sleep alone may as well eat alone. " ( USS Exeter -Ready Room -CO, Captain Trip Williams, CTO/3O Lt. SG Ravok, and CFO, Lt. SG Ire Williams - 1615 ) As Ire and Ravok arrived, Trip asked them both to sit. He then placed a bottle of bourbon, some ice, and three glasses on the coffee table. “I thought, given the circumstances, that it might be a good idea for us to just sit down, and escape for an hour, hang out. It’s been a shitshow the last two days, and with the grief and trauma you guys have gone through, I thought well just a drink or two. I dunno, I just don’t know how else to help, except bourbon.” Ire looked at the bottle of bourbon and nodded. “Yes thank you.” Ravok picked up the bottle " It's authentic " he said ,examining the label. He opened the bottle and poured their glasses. “I thought, you know maybe we could recapture the vibe of our first meeting, in my quarters, when we were tasked with rebuilding a fighter wing. The three musketeers of Mars.” Ire nodded. Ravok raised his glass to them. Trip raised his glass and the took a sip. It was smooth. Ravok took a drink of the bourbon and savored the taste. " Ahh , that's good stuff and I would love nothing more than that. The three amigos once again. " Trip then looked at both men with fatherly concern. “So, guys, shoot the shit. How are you holding up, and Ire, I swear if you say you’re fine.” Trip began to laugh, “I don’t know what I’ll do.” Ire paused before he replied. “I will be okay and I will be good to put this episode behind me.” Ravok leaned back in a relaxed position, glass in hand. " Well, it's been rough not going to lie. We lost people, good people. I don't think anyone is particularly riding the high waves of satisfactory morale." He waved his hand to Trip. " That's not on you though. None of us saw this coming. The proverbial handbook tells us to expect this stuff, but it never gets any easier." Ravok concluded ,taking another drink. “Nor should it. The moment that handling death and accepting devastating loss becomes easy is the moment, for lack of a better term, when we begin to sacrifice bits of our humanity.” Trip then smiled and laughed a bit. Ravok was full Romulan, he was half Betazoid, and Ire was half Bajoran, so the reality was that none of the three of them were ever truly human. Still, Trip considered himself more human than Betazoid, which was in contrast to his twin sister who felt more Betazoid than human. (reply any) “So Ire, I hope you don’t mind, I spoke to Greta earlier, she seemed to be a bit puzzled about how to help you, so I asked her to give you some space. I set up one of the guest quarters for you or her to use if you need it. Now knowing Greta she probably took the opposite of my advice, and probably meddled and made it worse. But that's Greta for you, headstrong, Hope things work out though, but if you need even more space, let me know. You can take some leave if you need it. In fact, both of you are pre approved for leave if you want.” Ire nodded. “Thank you for the quest quarters. I needed the space.” " I saw her just before coming here actually. She was in the mess hall. I too offered her a place to stay. While everything is sorted out. " Ravok added. Ire looked at Ravok for a moment before speaking. “There was no need for that, I was the one moving out.” " She doesn't want to be there with constant reminders of the two of you .I know this is hard, but the truth is the three of us have had to end life, and your right." Ravok paused and nodded to Trip. " It shouldn't get any easier, but we have been there for each other countless times...nothing has changed. I'm here for you guys forget the uniform, it's about us the people who wear it. " ~ What the hell is problem?~ Ravok thought and downed the rest of his bourbon and poured another glass. Ire paused, “You are correct it is not easy.” Ire sipped his bourbon trying to be polite when all he wanted was to go back to his quarters and be alone. He could feel a spark of annoyance flicker into life in the deep nothingness inside him. "Wait, hold up. Go back a sec. Ire, did you and Greta split? Why? That was quick." “I had to kill her. I am not able to be with her at the moment. As I am reminded of what I had to do every time I look at her.” "Well if she can't stand by you when you're not feeling yourself, maybe its for the best. There are bad days in the fleet and you need someone who isn't going to run when shit gets tough." Ire nodded at Trips words. "I mean sure, yeah. Its hard to be around. But I mean come on. That's not a reason to end it. Was it your call or hers?" Trip asked. “She was the one who walked out.” Ire looked from Trip and Ravok keeping his growing irritation in check. "Don't you think that was a bit hasty?" Trip asked. “It’s what is needed to be done for the moment "If this split becomes an issue, I might have to transfer you both." “I can do my job. This issue will not affect my work. "Ravok what are your thoughts?' Ravok looked at Trip. " Well. " he looked at Ire." See I had no idea that she left you, i thought it was a mutual thing...needing space that's fine I get that, but I'm going to have to point out that you went through a traumatic time. " Ravok said to Ire and held up his fingers counting off his points. " First you were abducted, then forced to play a game of life and death. You had to face off against a holographic Greta, and for all you knew it was the real one. Then you went and killed the bad guy. So my thoughts are you're a hero. You saved the day. I don't know what else to say" Ravok stated he felt bad for Ire. “I may have killed the bad guy but it was not soon enough for the others.” " But it was in just enough time to save the ones that B!+(# didn't kill for her sick pleasure." Ravok mentioned. Uncontrollable anger exploded inside Ire. It was like someone lighting a lake of fuel one moment it was oily blackness and the next it was a explosion of uncontrolled range. “You have no idea what you’re talking about. You were not there you sanctimonious little shit. You have no idea about what it took, what was needed to be done, what I needed to do.” "Ire. Chill." Trip said sternly "Sanctimonious little shit ? You can't even look a woman in the f#(&!=@ eye!" Ravok yelled at him. With a snarl Ire lashed out and slammed his fist into Ravoks face. As soon as Ire's fist hit his face Ravoks artificial eye deactivated leaving him with only one eye to see. In a moment of rage Ravok jumped up punching Ire in the jaw, feeling it crack against his knuckles. “What the #$%& is wrong with both of you. Seriously chill the fuck out, before I have to call security. I mean seriously, Ire what the %$#$ and Ravok, we don’t $%$@@# punch back.” Trip made muscled his way in between both of them trying to stop them from throwing another punch. Ire side stepped Trip trying to get a better angle on Ravok. He snapped a kick out trying to break Ravok’s knee but the angle went wrong and he was out of position. He followed with another punch trying to connect with Ravok but smashed into Trip instead. Trip felt Ire’s fist connect with his shoulder. It was a good thing Trip was significantly taller than Ravok or it might have been a blow to the face. Either way, compared to some of the punches Trip had taken in the past, it barely registered. “That’s $%$#&^ it.” Trip said as he looked at Ire. He then quickly grabbed Ire by the wrist and spun him around using his strength to his advantage. Trip then quickly wrapped Ire into a sleeper hold, waiting patiently for Ire to pass out. “Ravok, how are you feeling?” Ravok had his hand over his right eye. " He broke my damn eye! " “To say I’m disappointed in you is an understatement. I know you’ve had trauma, and it was retaliation, but still. I expected more restraint. You are confined to quarters for the next 72 hours and a reprimand will be placed in your file.” " Shit! " Ravok said, still holding his eye. Hearing Trips punishment to him. He knew there was nothing to be said. “As for Ire, get a security team and escort him to the brig. I should transfer his ass for this, but maybe 3 weeks in the brig will straighten him out.” Ravok was still pissed about being sucker punched, but this was Ire. " Trip it's my fault. Don't do that to him, he needs help. " He said beckoning to his captain. “Not another word, I’m not in the $#%^&# mood. I just saw two of my officers go to blows and had to choke one of them out. Just go.” Ravok tapped his commbadge. " Security, meet me in the ready room immediately. Bring restraints. " Trip looked at Ravok and sighed, “I’m headed out. Have Blackwell inform me when Ire is in the brig. It is most likely in your best interest to not talk to me for the next 72 to hours. And to think, I had just put in a request to Starfleet to promote you to Lt. Commander. Looks like I’m gonna have to withdraw that request. I expected better, from both of you, but especially you.” Trip didn’t even look Ravok in the eye, he just kept walking and left. Ravok sat down in a chair and waited for security to arrive. (Reply none) (USS Exeter – Deck 9- Starlight lounge – SPC Armory Chief PO2 Sytuk – 1615) We walked into the starlight lounge and was greeted by a young woman. " Hello Sir and welcome to the starlight lounge. How many? " Sytuk looked at her. " How many what ?" " Your party sir, how many are dining with you ?" She stated to him. Sytuk looked confused. " I am not having a party. I came here to eat and I came alone." " Just one that's fine Sir. Follow me, I have a table open to meet your accommodations." Sytuk followed her to a table near a massive window with a beautiful of the black of space. " Your waiter will be with you soon. Enjoy your time at the starlight lounge Sir." The hostess said, taking her leave. He looked around and saw other people sitting and enjoying meals with their friends, their partners. He looked at the table next to his. The young couple seemed to be happy with their meal selections. The man complimented his female companion on her hair. The compliment seemed to bring her happiness. Before long the waiter arrived. Introducing himself and began to rattle off a list of the specials. Sytuk held his hand up to stop him. " I am here for Steak, lobsters, deep fried travit" " Sir what travit? " The waiter asked. " It's a Romulan delicacy. Like cattle on earth but much more appetizing." Sytuk answered. " Ahh I see sir. Perhaps we can find something on it in our replicators. " " No!" Sytuk objected. " I came here for real food not synthetic food. Bring me five 16 ounce steaks rare and three well prepared lobsters and a champagne of your preference." The waiter nodded his head. " Good choices sir, I shall return with your meal shortly." Before long a bottle of champagne and a basket of bread was brought out to him. He was shocked that the waiter poured his drink for him. He enjoyed it anyway. Soon his food arrived and he began to eat. The food was truly delicious. Over the next 30 minutes he consumed 4 bottles of champagne and cleared his plates. He leaned back in his chair and looked around, his appetite was satisfied. Glancing over at the empty seat across from him he raised his glass of champagne. " Your hair looks good tonight." He said half heartedly, taking a sip of his champagne. He was only on the ship for three days and already he’s being asked to take care of the Captain and First Officer. But Dr. Vespers’ reasoning made perfect sense. Maybe Erin knew? Leaning towards him, she whispered, "I'm not sure but I have heard rumours." “ Oh dear.....what have ye heard?” Stan asked "Well, I've heard that they are quite the taskmaster. Say, you're a botanist, you can help me with something. Call it a job interview so to speak." She replied. “ Go ahead lassie I am all ears,” He said "I've been trying to grow a flower from my home." “ Not all plants are easy to grow from cuttings on a starship. The artificial gravity puts quite a strain on the cell structure.” Stan said "Lapageria. Commonly known as the Chilean Bell flower. No matter what I do, can't seem to get it to grow, let alone flower. We used to have them on the farm outside Santiago. Really miss the aroma." Stan closed his eyes as his photographic memory kicked in. “ Lapageria rosea also known as the national flower of Chile. Reportedly name after the sweetheart of the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte Josephine. It’s really a climbing plant. That might be the problem.” Stan said "If you could grow me some, I would be forever grateful. " “ It’s not really a pot plant. But it may do better in the arboretum. (USS Exeter – Brig – Isolation Cell – CFO – Lieutenant – Ire Williams –1641) Ire slowly opened his eyes and looked up at the grey bulkhead above him. He slowly looked around taking in the rest of his cell and the security guard at the console beyond. “Well, this is fun.” He moved into a sitting position as the security guard looked up from his console. “How long am I going to be in here?” “You will be here for 21days on the Captain’s orders.” He nodded, lay back down on the bed and looked back at the celling. His mind ran over the last twenty-four hours. Deep in the darkness of his despair there was a flicker of something he was not sure what it was joy, happiness, anger, or acceptance but at least there was something that was not just soul crushing numbness. He rolled over and closed his eyes. (Reply any) ( USS Exeter - Arboretum - Tac/Sec Ens. Stan More - 16:44 ) Stan lay on his back with a blade of grass poking out his mouth as he thought. At first he had thought the problem Erin had with growing her Lapageria. May of been down to the Exeter’s gravity. He had thought of reducing the gravity in the Arboretum. But he stopped himself. ~ Consequences. Have ye learned nothing yer bampot. You need permission from the CEO and a command officer. Yer can’t just fiddle with a key system without permission. Plus engineering have enough on their plate. Without yer giving them an extra helping of what’s that crazy Scot down now! Nay and anyway now I come ta think about it. Gravity may not be the key here. It’s called the national flower of Chile. ~ he thought Stan had the computer download all the information they had. On the Chilean climate and its soil. His eyes widened as he read through the info. “ PORRIDGE FOR BREAKFAST!!! That’s it!!” Stan had just it figured out. He apologised to a couple of crewmen his outburst had startled. The problem was not the gravity on the ship. It was the soil! The plant needed certain nutrients that only came from the Chilean soil. More hoped they could be replicated. He checked the PADD. Yes they could. Plus they were perfectly harmless so he did not need to speak to Sickbay first. ( Reply , None ) (USS Exeter – Gym - Physio Lt(jg) Cerise Blake and CO Cpt Trip Williams - 1700) Cerise was in the gym, once more stood at the head of the track, lining up for the performance that would utterly cement her position into the Terran gymnastics team. The Produnova double twist was not only her centrepiece, it was the most difficult performance ever to have been attempted by a human. At her peak, she had been utterly utterly confident that she could pull of the maneuver that would cement her name into legend, in practise, she had landed it each time into the crash pads. That, though had been the day before the graduation party. Only 36 hours later...she had lost everything. Including the ability to walk. Years later now, and horrific training, and physiotherapy, her persona, her psyche had changed, she stood, her figure stood in tight lycra, because she found it comfy, not because she considered it attractive, sher persona, previously competitive and angsty, was now utterly placid, calm, and reflective, her persona utterly devoid of attachment to romantic tendencies. However the tiniest grain in her, the one atom of her old life wanted to do that one jump. It was for that reason that she stood at the top of the run more times than she had ever considered been able to count. “Don’t do anything too risky.” Trip said with a smile and he walked past the area of the gym where Cerise was. He was headed to the boxing ring and was going to initiate the ESH, emergency sparring hologram. He was filled with anger, rage, and just disgust at the behavior of two of his closest friends and colleagues. He was so riled up that he felt the only thing that could calm him down was to beat up a hologram, because he was certain that at this moment if he sparred with a person he would probably hurt them. She didn’t look round. Trip may be the Captain, but here it just felt like high school all over. “I can do it Trip.” She sighed, her nerve gone again. “What gives?” “Just don’t want to see you get hurt. Believe it or not, I care about you. And not in the I’m your captain kind of way, or the new freshman jock wanting to have an in with the cheerleaders, but because, over the last few months, I’ve just seen you be a solid decent person. Would hate for anything bad to happen to you.” She nodded, her soul happy to be talking to someone as a friend, and equal, someone who neither wanted nor needed anything from her. She motioned at him toward the point where she was standing. “You ever stood here?” “No, my body isn’t the fly through the air type. It’s the run your ass over type.” He said with a laugh. Cerise laughed gently. “I remember.” she exhaled gently, motioning to the vault. “Eighty-two feet. That’s all you have to build up enough momentum. The vault catapults you at an angle of about 45 degrees if you hit it...precisely. The rest is up to you. Become one of the greats, or crash and burn.” “When did you become a mathematician and a philosopher.” Trip chuckled. “At the level I was, gym was math, and science. I was a horrible horrible student, and a bad person, but the older and less limber I get, the more I realise that this could be a metaphor for what you, Ailynn, we all do.” “Yeah, well right now I feel like I’m burning. Just wait until the rumors start. Did you hear, the Captain just beat the shit of Ire, that’s why he’s in the brig.” “I’d heard rumours. Kneel. Cross legged. Close your eyes and breath.” She did the same. “As you breath you’re going to come in thought the nose, and out through the mouth.” Trip looked at Cerise with a blank expression. ~She can’t be serious.~ Still he decided that it couldn’t hurt so he closed his eyes and began to take deep breaths. “I said!..breaaathe.” She stood up and moved around his back, resting her hands on his shoulders, kneading the muscles gently. Trip turned and smirked, “Look, uh, I appreciate this, but if I needed this kind of physical release my wife would be more than up to the task.” “Easy there Flyboy I’m sure she is. Not that kind of massage.” She held his left arm and pushed against the shoulder blade, the crack echoing through the room. “Oww, that...that...felt good,” “See? Now..other side. You can offload as I do this, consider it patient privilege.” she moved her hands around, gently feeling the muscle, and then doing the same to the right as she had to the left. “ So...Ire’s in the brig, and he and Ravok…? Have you been at the bourbon? One pint or two?” she said somewhat sarcastically. “Well I’d never drink a pint of bourbon, thats asking for trouble.” He said with a smile. Cerise laughed gently, a warm rich sound, “well, never the best idea, but not always the worst.” She quipped. “So talk to me, let it go.” She massaged the tense muscles between the shoulder blades. “Honestly, I don’t know what I was thinking. Both went through trauma, not even 24 hours ago. I thought some bro time would help. Ire….he’s not coping well, blew up at Ravok. Threw a punch, knocked his cybernetic eye out. Then Ravok punched back. I got in the middle to break it up and Ire hit me in the shoulder. Honestly, he doesn’t have that strong of a punch. But I defused the situation by putting Ire in a sleeper hold.” “Wait...Ire threw the first punch?” “yes. Honestly…..I feel like a shit captain right now. I want to to talk to Ash about it. But I….just want to beat something up first,” “She took the advantage and wretched the upper back each way. That’s about all I can do as you are. Couple more sessions maybe you’d loosen up a bit.” She paused. “Look, if it’s weird, Ash has had a pregnancy massage twice a week for a month now.” She smiled, “I can spar a bit?” "I umm. Not a good idea right now. I'm going to have the sparring hologram on its highest difficulty. That's how stressed I am." She nodded. “I know. Fair enough.” "You know, I could have gone pro." “Oh?” Cerise answered gently, eyeing up the run again. "I got offers to join a professional mixed Martial arts league. Would have fought all over the alpha quadrant. But I turned it down to stay in the academy. Of course I still kept fighting and then almost died." “James,” she said, more talking toward the teenager that she’d know than the man before her. “That happened to all of us, myself included. Hell, let's face it, especially me. I hate to burst your bubble but you are not the only one, and you are far from the worst. Sure you went through a lot, but you don’t get that luxury when you’ve seen the things I have.” "I guess that wasn't really my point. I guess It'...could I have been something else." “Regrets?” her figure stepped around to face him. "I'm happy with my life don't get me wrong. But sometimes it feels like I have to be perfect all the time. You don't need a captain who makes youthful mistakes. I'm 23. Im supposed to be getting into trouble. Instead I have 500 souls to take care of. I'll never get to adventure in the way my age peers get to." Cerise sighed, shaking her head. “...but…” she spoke, an edge of irritation in her voice. "I was talking to one of the wait staff Earlier and it just made Me think. Normal 23 year old officer, here's a phaser. Don't shoot yourself. Me, Here are 500 people You're in charge of And a Kid. And part of me just screams saying, îcan't I just go bowling instead. Im being spoiled I know. But Trip Williams the fighter, he'd be more free to be 23. But….sorry...you had your future robbed. I shouldn’t complain about being blessed." “I made my bed.” she answered. “I’m moved on. Took me a year.” "I'm really sorry . This is why i don't Unload outside my Quarters." “There’s no apology necessary, offloading is just focussed releasing of stress. Something that you need to learn to do.” "Well, I do have one outlet. But its private." Trip laughed Cerise laughed warmly. “And has already got you into trouble with Ash I see.” her eyes twinkled with fun. "Well yes. But only because she hated what I made her wear." Cerise raised an eyebrow. “Oh no you didn’t?” then laughed horribly. “can’ t believe you just…” she fanned her face theatrically. "Oh...ummm no not that. Not sex." Trip blushed. "It may come as a shock Because I'm A Jock But I love Shakespeare. I perform it sometimes to Cope with stress. Only Maybe 6 people on board know. Ash Didn't like her costume for Romeo and juliet." “I’m not surprised.” Cerise quipped. “It lasted 3 days and 6 people died.” "When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes," Trip began from memory. "I all alone beweep my outcast state, And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries, And look upon myself and curse my fate," Trip hopped onto the platform dramatically. "Wishing me like to one more rich in hope, Featured like him, like him with friends possessed, Desiring this man’s art and that man’s scope, With what I most enjoy contented least; Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising, Haply I think on thee, and then my state, (Like to the lark at break of day arising From sullen earth) sings hymns at heaven’s gate; For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings That then I scorn to change my state with kings." “I remember that. English class, senior year.” "Sonnet 29." “I’m no scholar, but strikes me that the poem is telling you that you are looking for a lot in the wrong places. "I know this is where I want to be. But more than anything it's a reminder to me that I would only change my fate if it meant keeping Ash. What is fame and fortune without the one who gives it meaning." Cerise smiled gently, “That’s so sweet. I love you close you guys are.” 'But enough about me. You doing ok?" Again, a simple smiled and a gentle blush. “I’m...really happy. I mean, the last couple of days have been horrible, of course, but all that aside; I feel so complete here, I feel like a stick, bobbing down a river. I’m not sure where my destination is, but I’m stupidly happy with my surroundings, the current is a nice speed for the most part and apart from a few rapids, and the odd little waterfall, I love my life.” She blushed gently again. "I'm glad. You've really changed for the better. Proof that hope is real." She sighed, “I know, and I feel, I’m not sure, I had a lot of time to reflect on things, it taught me a lot, about life, about myself, others, the universe and my own little place in it.” She smiled in half regret, the death of her classmate in the same crash that had changed her destiny, would always be a millstone around her neck. "I'm glad you and Ash buried the hatchet." “You are such a lucky boy. She’s such a dear, comes in twice a week for a pregnancy massage. I’d kill for a complexion a tenth as good as hers.” She smiled. "What about you and Ailynn?" Cerise drew a breath. “Professionally, she’s fine. We haven’t spoken much, no malice I’m sure.” She frowned slightly, “She has a very different nature to Ash. Ailynn is like a tigress, and she forgets nothing. I need to have a very long conversation with her, but she’s either working; way, way too hard I may add, or staring doe eyed at her date.” she winked gently. "Yeah. Just call Ash, I'll bet she can doe eye Ailynn into giving you an hour." “That would be good. I don’t like too many things hanging over me. I’ll do that.” "Look Cee, I need to get my work out going but Thankyou for Listening." Trip smiled and gave her a hug. She knew that Trip was being friendly, and she took the hug in the spirit that it was intended, she couldn’t however stop herself tensing awkwardly. She hugged him back somewhat awkwardly. “Any time. I need to head anyway, early physio appointment.” She pulled away, and walked gracefully across the floor toward the door, making sure she half jumped over the run up to the vault, a force of habit that she could never break. (Reply any) ( USS Exeter - Personal Quarters - CSO Lt Jg Erin Cortez - 1747 ) After speaking to Jimmy and contacting the counselling team, Erin sat back for a moment to allow herself a moment to think before she left to speak to someone. As she closed her eyes, one word kept ringing in her mind. ~Evolving~ That was the word. She was evolving. Becoming better. Someone that wasn’t scared to admit she was wrong or vulnerable. Thinking back to the night that Christian had broke her in more ways than one, she knew that she was not that person. The feelings that she had had then, the fear, the pain, the uncertainty, the unworthiness. But, she had fought her way back to get into starfleet. Struggled but made it through. Then there was Dulon and what had happened there. The fact that she had recognised that she needed help and time away from the life she had on mars was not lost on her. She had recognised that she needed to become something other than what she was at that point in her life. She had needed to evolve. And now, with the whole ‘Maxine’ situation, with Clarke and Nesha losing their lives and her nearly losing hers… she realised that again, she was evolving. Constantly adapting and changing and becoming stronger. Erin shook her head as she knew the word stronger wasn’t right. Jimmy had been right with what he had said about her becoming obsessed with becoming stronger and he had been right to a point. The word Strong was a double edged sword. She knew that she was stronger but she could tell that she was using it in a different sense now. No longer was the word something that she strived for, was desperate to become. Stronger now meant being able to admit when she was feeling weak and vulnerable and letting people in. Letting people in to help her with her struggle and being open to receive that help. She smiled to herself as she opened her eyes and stood. ~Maybe strong is not the word, evolving is. It’s like a chrysalis. Everything up to the moment in my life has been to help me change, to become who i was meant to be. I am evolving and that’s fine. I can be weak, i can be vulnerable and that’s fine and, right now, i need to be that version of me. The fun version of me will come back as a part of the whole.~ Taking a breath, she walked out of her quarters, knowing that she was feeling better about her journey and where it would take her. I just got done with a conference call with Starfleet JAG, Intelligence, Security, Temporal Operations, and Fleet HQ. To say it was busy, uggh, so glad it’s over.” Ailynn smiled as she sat down, she'd opted for the dress variant of the uniform this morning, and smoothed the skirt under her as she sat down "I'm sorry I missed it" she quipped gently. She'd slept extremely well, and although she'd had some unusual dreams, she'd woken up refreshed, and feeling better than she had in a long while. "And the outcome?" “Had to brief them on the official story and the actual events of the Maxine episode. But they’re all in agreement. Maxine was the visitor and now she’s dead.” Ailynn nodded. The last couple of days had been tremendously stressful to all, the fact that they were talking about official stories rather suggested that certain things were being swept under the carpet, or hidden from view more likely. “And the unofficial one?” “The 'unofficial' story," He said with air quotes. "the true story, is the Maxine somehow leveraged Thorn and Bult to help her. Not sure why, both had been model officers. We’re not sure why they turned as neither had explained anything in logs. The three were not even that close before hand, so the guess is they were manipulated somehow. Maybe they were swapped with agents before, we don’t know. So Starfleet Intellgience is going to meet us on Bolarus, under the guise of counselors from Starfleet Medical, along with some actual counselors. And will interview the entire crew. When they’re satisfied we are who we are, then we stay. Any one suspected, or anyone to emotionally compromised will probably be transferred.” “Intel posing as counsellors?” she shook her head, a look of disapproval on her face. “I mean, I understand the need, but that’s not a crossover I exactly approve of.” “Your mom signed off on it. Apparently her idea.” NRPG: All this will be done off screen, congratulations all your characters passed. RPG: “Hmmm.” She grunted, “Mum and Intel go a little too closely for my liking. It’s about the only thing that her and Dale don’t see eye to eye about. I understand their necessity of course, but still. So, officially it’s all on Maxine?” “Yeah so thats gonna suck. 'Officially'," he said once again in air quotes "Maxine went rogue. She was a ¼ bajoran, among the crew that was taken by the Prophet’s Flame cult. So we'll say that the Story is that she was radicalized there or might have been a mole. Tyko Nix’s mission in cleaning up the cult had him follow her to the Exeter. She found out, and somehow convinced Thorn and Bult to help. SFI got a sworn affidavit from Trost’s daughter claiming that Maxine was a member of the cult and Thorn was a sympathizer. They were working with her the whole time and Maxine was part of the reason our Bajoran crew got kidnapped so easily. That is of course a lie. But they lowered Trentin’s daughter’s sentence and gave her nice accommodations for it. What the hell do I know.” Ailynn shook her head irritably “Cover ups and kickbacks. I hate this part of the job. What of the others?” “Bult on the other hand, his grandfather is a Bolian politician. So that was a bit more delicate. While we know he was guilty, SFI is umm, covering that up. They’ve altered the record that he was actually an undercover agent trying to bust Green, and then she found out and killed him. Politics…. Always politics. But so that’s the official story. Maxine Green was a member of the Prophet’s Flame, recruited Thorn, Bult got into her inner circle, was working with Tyko Nix to stop her, she found out Tyko was onto her, killed him, Thorn died trying to stop us. Green killed Bult because he was SFI, and then Maxine went nuts and killed our crew in the holodeck as revenge for shutting down her cult’s path to true enlightenment or some shit like that.” “I think an interdimensional Emperess bent on causing widescale devastation actually makes more sense than that, but who am I to question Intel’s cover stories.” she sighed. “Too early for a drink?” Shaking her head, she got up, and walked across the room, picking up two glasses and opening a cupboard. She then removed a bottle and poured them both a small shot of bourbon. Coming back to the table, she handed one to Trip. “For medicinal purposes.” "Salud." He replied. Sipping at the spirit, she knew it was a terrible idea having a drink at this time of the morning, traditionally the sun needed to be over the yardarm, however, in their case it was barely over the horizon. “So are we at Bolus for Christmas?” She asked quietly "No. We depart two days before. Christmas will be on ship." “That’ll be nice, not as nice as being at home I’ll admit, but nice nonetheless.” "However, we've been asked to attend a conference on the 29th. Archeological in nature I think. They said you and I needed to broaden our academic horizons. Consider it continuing education." “Archeological conference? Really?” She rolled her eyes slightly and sighed again, taling another sip of her drink. "So while you and I will be stuck in lectures for a few days, the rest of the crew will have leave on that planet." “You’ve lost me,” she said puzzled. “Which planet?” "Risa." “Wait? What? They go to the beach for a few days and we get to sit in a conference room? That sucks. No fair, I wanna go to the beach.” She sulked gently, actually unsure if Trip was joking. She wouldn’t put it past the Admiralty to think it was a good idea. "Yup." “I really hope you’re pulling my leg.” "Well if you'd rather go to a conference on the mating habits of targs at deep space K7 we can change our destination." “Lets go to the mating one. At least we can sit at the back and laugh at the mucky videos.” She quipped, her hopes of spending some actual quality time with her girlfriend, her family and her friends sailing away into the distance. "I picked Risa. The crew needs this." She nodded. “They do. It’s been a hellish time of late. They need to kick back and blow off some steam.” Draining her drink she shuddered, and coughed gently “that...was a bad idea.” Smiling wistfully, she looked up at her old friend. “You’re teasing right? About the archeology thing?” "No." "Ugh. I could step down, promote Kiera and she can go?" "Did I mention the conference is casual clothes and only a total of four one hour lectures and we'll be on Risa for a week." Ailynn’s eyes narrowed. “No, you neglected to mention that, you made it out to sound awfully like entire days full of ponderously slow talks about who knows what.” she smiled gently. “I hate you.” She winked. "I love you too." “Risa for a week though? I hope they know what’s about to hit them.” "Yeah. They'll have the option of staying on planet or on ship. But I'm gonna have Ash plan a formal gala for new years eve at the Starlight Lounge." "She'll enjoy that, she loves planning those formal things, and I...have the perfect dress, Ronnie gave it me." She smiled. "Might stay down there myself, get one of those little beachside cabins" “You’re welcome to join Ash and I, unless you want to have some alone time with you know.” Trip winked. Ailynn Laughed and blushed slightly. "I need some lone time. Being a suspect hit Caity harder than she lets on I think, besides, you guys need some time alone too. Not going to be long and your life will utterly change." “Five months give or take.” Trip said smiling. "So, Cerise has asked for some time. Hardly spoken to her which is bad of me, I guess I can't see past the high school her." “She’s changed a lot. We all have. Lynn, she’s not the same girl she was. She is a completely different person.” "So I hear from Ash, we have all changed, beyond recognition. I need to give her a chance, and I know I haven't had or made time for her." “Honestly she’s a sweetheart.” Sighing gently, and definitely regretting the drink, Ailynn shifted in her seat. "Anything else we need to look at?" “Just make sure everything is in order for our time on Bolerus.” She nodded simply. "I have a list." “I’m looking forward to the rest time. But we still have work to do, and I got to give a formal Statement to the crew, prepare the funerals. Tyko Nix, David, Clarke, and Nesha Kervik, and Jorash Bult will have a formal ceremony open to the public. I know, Bult is guilty as sin, but, we got to sell the story. I’ll hold a private ceremony later for Thorn and Maxine. Don’t know Thorn’s motives, but he deserves to be laid to rest. Properly. As for Maxine, we know...we know the real Maxine perished on Starbase Freedom. She deserves to be honored with those we have lost, but we can’t…” He began to get a bit angry, “we have secrets to keep. So I want to honor her sacrifice. Even if I can’t do so publicly.” “I hate that,” she said. “The person that is actually the most innocent has her memory forever and irreparably tarnished, while one the most guilty gets a pass and his guilt covered up because his father is a two bit official. Can you imagine if it were you, or I?” “Yeah.” he said. “We’d stand up and own our guilt, our families wouldn’t stand for that kind of nonsense.” “I’m not sure about that. Our parents, your gran, they have more secrets than we know. We go could go rogue and then somehow they’d still build a statue of us.” “Maybe.” “But it’s all behind us. She’s dead. The empress is dead.” Ailynn nodded somewhat subdued. “I’d better get on. Catch up at lunch?” “Sure. I’ll see you then.” Standing up, She put her glass on the tray to be cleaned, then nodded to Trip. “Captain, with your permission?” Trip smiled, “Of course.” He then giggled to himself. “Careful Lynn, showing off those killer legs of yours, trying to impress Caity?” Ailynn looked down, smiling as she blushed. "Well, I have to play to my advantage, don't I." She winked playfully. "You're incorrigible Trip Williams." “Dismissed.” He said laughing. (reply none) (USS Exeter – Bridge - CO, Captain Trip Williams- 0900) As Trip exited the ready room and sat down in his chair he opened a ship wide channel. “To the Exeter crew, I know the last few days have been rough, but I want you all to know that I am very, very proud of you. I have spoken with the admiralty at Starfleet HQ and we have officially closed the investigation into what transpired here. I want to make sure you all know what happened to hopefully put to bed any gossip or speculation.” Trip paused. He knew the truth, some of his senior staff knew the truth, but the crew at large was unaware that they had been attacked by a megalomaniacal manica from an alternate timeline, an alternate universe. The brass at Starfleet Intelligence wanted to keep it that way. Trip hated that he was about to lie to his crew, but, orders were orders. He did not say any immediate moral or ethical harm, but he was going to do his best to tell the cover story without completely lying. “Lieutenant Commander Tyko Nix was aboard the Exeter, not for passage to Bolerus XI, but rather he was hunting down a suspected terrorist.” He paused. This was technically true. While the blame was being pinned on the real Maxine Green, the person inhabiting her body could be considered a terrorist. “That terrorist, upon learning that Commander Tyko was on to them then decided to end his life once and for all. This person, Ensign Maxine Green, did so with the aid of Ensign Malachi Thorn and Ensign Jorash Bult. Thorn took his own life after attempting to kill Ensign Hammerfield and T’Kel. Ensign Bult was killed by Ensign Green. From what we I was told…. Ensign Bult was actually working for SFI and was tasked with helping Commander Tyko stop Maxine. He lost his life in the line of duty.” The first explicit lie. Trip felt dirty and ashamed. He was no part of the cover up. But he had to spread the cover story, to make it believable. “Maxine was eventually stopped by those she kidnapped and was killed. A signed confession from the daughter of Trentin Jost, if you remember from our trip to the Gamma quadrant, reveals that Maxine had been a member of the Cult of the Pah Wraiths. We don’t know when she was radicalized, whether it was before or after our encounter with them. What we do know is that Commander Tyko had discovered her identity and that we stopped her here. Why she lashed out, why Ensign Thorn joined her, I do not know. What we gather is that she was biding her time waiting for a further call to action that never came. Her theatrics….her murderous machinations, were devastating, and are at an end. The woman who wanted to be Empress of the Pah Wraiths, is no more. Starfleet Medical will be meeting us on Bolerus and the entire crew will undergo thorough counseling sessions, just to make sure everyone’s mental health is not too jeopardized.” NRPG: Reminder, off screen, everyone passes. RPG: “In other news, once we are done with our mission to Bolerus, we will then depart for our next destination where the whole crew will have a week of Shore leave, on Risa. So let’s keep our heads up, keep working hard. Captain Williams out,” (reply none) (USS Exeter - Bridge - COO LTjg Paul Sleeford 09:01) Sitting at the OP's console at the start of his shift, Sleeford relaxed, the interview or debrief had gone well, his counselling session had been productive, he was rested and clam, looking forward to a new mission, something to get his teeth into. Hearing the ready room door open Sleeford stole a glance to see the captain walk across to the centre chair as the ship wide channel was opened Sleeford half turned and listened to the captains address. “To the Exeter crew, I know the last few days have been rough, but I want you all to know that I am very, very proud of you. I have spoken with the admiralty at Starfleet HQ and we have officially closed the investigation into what transpired here. I want to make sure you all know what happened to hopefully put to bed any gossip or speculation.” Sleeford turned back to the front and wondered what story the head shed had come up with for the mass murder that happened yesterday. “Lieutenant Commander Tyko Nix was aboard the Exeter, not for passage to Bolerus XI, but rather he was hunting down a suspected terrorist. That terrorist, upon learning that Commander Tyko was on to them then decided to end his life once and for all. He lost his life in the line of duty.” Sleeford turned his head and raised his eyebrows slightly, ~So this is the bull they came up with, I suppose it's better the the truth, a mad entity from a parallel universe, invading this one to create havoc~ “Maxine was eventually stopped by those she kidnapped and was killed. So let’s keep our heads up, keep working hard. Captain Williams out,” Sleeford coughed quietly to himself and faced the main screen, ~So we're off to Rise, I wonder if Katie's still there. Her medical secondment must be at an end by now. ~ (Replies none) (USS Exeter - Ops Office - COO - LTjg - Paul Sleeford 14:00) Sleeford sat at the desk, the engineering department had done a superb job of repairing the office after the explosion, carefully placing his mug of coffee on the table next to the screen he took a bite out of the steak sandwich, he'd grabbed from Nine and Dine on the way down, letting out a contented sigh he wiped his mouth and took a long sip of coffee. “Computer open a comms link to the medical facility on Risa” While he waited he glanced at the PADD with that weeks shift rotas, making a couple of changes to cover recent departures, the bleep of the connection going through broke his thought. “ Risa medical facilities “ “Good day, could you patch me through to the office of Doctor Katie Jamison please” “Who’s calling please “ Sleeford smiled, receptionists it seemed where the same the galaxy over. “Chief Operations Officer, USS Exeter. Lieutenant Paul Sleeford “ As the screen faded and the image replaced by a familiar face, Sleeford smile grew larger. “ Hi sweet heart, how’s things in paradise. “ ( Reply Jamison) “The captain has a five day archeology conference on Risa at the end of the month, we’ve been granted a week R&R, I’ll miss Christmas but get new year’s in. Will you have free time?” (Reply Jamison) (Risa - Medical Complex - Med Officer Ens. Katie Jamison 14:05) Katie sighed and looked around what had been her office for the last month. It was time to get back to her family and friends aboard the Exeter. She'd been thinking about them a lot lately. Missing them, but her time away had also been productive. She'd gained new skills and a new appreciation for those who she worked with. The blip from the communications panel at the desk pulled her out of her thoughts. She sat down and tapped the panel. She smiled at the face on the screen. =/\=Hi sweetheart, how’s things in paradise. =/\= She shook her head. "Better now. How have you been?" =/\=The captain has a five day archeology conference on Risa at the end of the month, we’ve been granted a week R&R, I’ll miss Christmas but get new year’s in. Will you have free time?=/\= The excitement in her voice was evident. "Yes I will" she paused then let out a sigh. "I have missed you." She'd heard skuttlebutt about what had been happening aboard the ship. But wanted to hear and see for herself. "You'll have to fill me in on what's been going on." She paused and let out a breath. "Over dinner?" (Reply Sleeford) She knew the ship wasn't due for some time, and it would give her time to pack, decide what to take with her, what to ship home. It was amazing what she accumulated since arriving on Risa. “The next month is going to feel like forever. I can’t wait to see you.” (Reply Sleeford) (USS Exeter - OPs Office - COO - LTjg Paul Sleeford 14:06) Seeing the smile light up Katie's face, Sleeford resisted the urge to reach out for the screen and touch it. She shook her head. "Better now. How have you been?" =/\=The captain has a five day archeology conference on Risa at the end of the month, we’ve been granted a week R&R, I’ll miss Christmas but get new year’s in. Will you have free time?=/\= . "Yes I will. I have missed you." "I've missed you too. So much has happened, since you left" . "You'll have to fill me in on what's been going on.Over dinner?" Smiling Sleeford nodded once, "In the best restaurant Risa has to offer Sleeford would be glad to see Katie again, it had been too long apart, he knew that was the danger for Starfleet couples, others had managed over the years, it would be nice to have someone else to talk to abut things other then the ship." “The next month is going to feel like forever. I can’t wait to see you.” Laughing slightly Sleeford raised his hand and touched her face on the screen, "I cant either. It will soon pass, I'll be there in no time. It will be nice to feel solid ground beneath my feet again" (Reply Jamison IYW ) (Risa - Medical Complex - Med Officer Ens. Katie Jamison 14:08) Laughing slightly Sleeford raised his hand and touched her face on the screen, =/\= I can't either. It will soon pass, I'll be there in no time. It will be nice to feel solid ground beneath my feet again =/\= Katie smiled as he touched the screen and her own hand reached to also touch the screen. She laughed. "You can't wait to be on solid ground and I can't wait to be in space again. I've never been one to settle in one place for long. Being in space is different. Every day is different. She let out a sigh. "Find a way to speed up the ship ... please."
