After a few moments he struggled meekly and said in hushed whisper, "Thank you." "You're welcome." "My name is Rolan, Rolan Cruset. Engineer on the Freighter Lady Luck. I guess... I guess we weren't so lucky." She took a look at the tricorder and nodded. "You'll be good as new in no time Rolan. I'm Katie, Katie Jamison, one of the doctors aiding you and your shipmates." "Where, umm, where are we?" every word hurt like a bunch of needles but he was happy to speaking. "Don't stress yourself trying to speak much right now. You're on board the USS Exeter." She once again glanced at the readings on the tricorder and nodded slightly. His wounds would heal, but he would need to rest his voice and throat for that to happen. "Let me get you something so we can talk if you want, without irritating your throat. I'll be right back." She stepped away from his bed for a moment, heading for the replicator. She returned with what appeared to be a Padd but it didn't have all the bells and whistles. Just the basics where he could write out his questions or thoughts and she would answer him, give him time to rest and recuperate. Returning to his side. "Here you go. This should help." she said as she passed him the padd. (Reply NPC Civilian Rolan Cruset) (Posted by Kathleen (SPC)) (USS Exeter – Main Engineering – Engineer Ensign Kryx – 1329) Kryx crawled out of the jeffries tube and brushed his hands on his slacks as the lieutenants voice came over the comm. =/\= “I want you to head up a damage control team. I want you to be ready for if our adversary gets their act together. Merek out.” =/\= He looked around him and moved to one of the nearby consoles before replying. His eyes on the readings in front of him as he answered. =/\= “I'm on it Lieutenant. We'll be ready. Kryx out.” =/\= He was already putting his team or teams together in his head as he tapped buttons in front of him and sent out feelers to those he wanted on the team, advising them to meet him in Engineering. He wasn't about to let the ship fall apart around them. (Reply any who are in engineering/or None) (Posted by Kathleen (SPC)) (USS Exeter - Sickbay - ACScio - Ensign SG – Adala Michaels - 1332) Adala was glad there was a lull in the cases flowing into sickbay. She'd been going non-stop, as had all the staff around her. She and Ryelle were quietly chatting, although her eyes kept roaming the room around her. "Not really sure how I feel about all of this Adala." "About what's happening? Or what?' Her mind was not quite ready to take in anything but the job at hand. "We Bajorans have a complicated history. As a people we are not strangers to strife or violence. For years we had to fight for our freedom. We've only been free from Cardassian occupation for 76 years. Those wounds haven't really healed. I was a small child when Cardassia was accepted into the Federation. Fifty years after our mortal enemy had left our planet, we were now to welcome them as brothers." "I totally understand. I don't understand the politics of it all. I try to take each person as they come and not judge. It is hard sometimes, you have preconceived thoughts or ideas about someone, their race or species. It's hard to separate the past from the here and now." Having grown up in starfleet one of the many things she'd had to learn was to look beyond the person, accept them on their merits and not on anything else. "I understand the pain, the anguish of my fellow Bajorans, as they had to see their oppressor become an equal, a brother. That sense of betrayal was present in many of my people. But as a man of faith, as a people of faith, many of us knew we needed to trust the will of the prophets. Then the unthinkable happened. Our brothers, our Bajoran brothers, listened to the lies of the true enemy, the Pah Wraiths, and began shedding Bajoran blood. It hurts my heart Adala. It breaks my heart, to see my people so misguided, and drawn to violence, manipulated by pure evil." Adala nodded, she's known evil, although she didn't remember it. The evil that followed her stayed in the shadows, but she knew what it felt like, just unable to explain it. "I have seen brother fight against brother, I have seen parents kill their children. All in the name of whatever was going on around them, or whomever was the more controlling." She touched Ryelles arm. "I do understand where you are coming from, why you feel the way you do. But sometimes in order for us to get our jobs done we have to push our personal feelings into the back of our minds and look at each person individually." She hoped her thoughts made sense to him. "I am always here if you need an ear, hell, even a punching bag to get your emotions out and deal with them." It wouldn't be the first time one of her friends had to take their pain, emotions, confusion out in a physical way. (Reply Ryelle) (Posted by Kathleen) (USS Exeter - Bridge - Chief Tactical Officer Ensign Dareshaa - 1336) The enemy vessel had attempted to ram the Exeter, however Lieutenant Williams successfully piloted the Exeter away from harm. Still, the enemy commander wasn't done. Their next move was to attach their tractor beam to the Exeter which they were able to do, and activate their self destruct sequence. As soon as Dareshaa recognized what was happening she attempted to fire the Dark Matter phasers as she expected the order to come quickly. However her console showed that the phasers had already been activated. Her mouth gaped open as she knew what occurred. She looked at her Commanding Officer with shock, but instantly knew why he did it. As quick as he took the controls from her he gave them back. "Ensign Dareshaa, Stand down Red alert, activate yellow alert," Commander Williams ordered. "Aye Commander," she did as she was told. (reply none, any) (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Exeter - Sickbay - ACScio - Ensign SG – Adala Michaels - 1336) "Cortez to Michaels." Adala tapped her combadge "Adala here, go ahead Ma'am." "Report to the bridge. You're on point duty." "Yes ma'am, on my way." She turned to Ryelle and patted his arm. "Hold down the fort. Holler if you need me." She knew he was up to the task. "We'll spend time together after this is over, I promise." (reply Ryelle if wanted) With a final glance around her she headed for the bridge. Time to switch focus from healer to scientist. She leaned against the wall of the lift as it rose and closed her eyes. Breath Adala, breath she said to herself. (reply any in sickbay) (posted by Kathleen) (USS Exeter – Bridge – 2O/CEO – Lieutenant Keira Merek – 1339) The Chief Engineer could tell from the readings that the Saber had set her self destruct sequence. ~Probably at a proximity detonation, when they get with in a certain distance….BOOM.~ She shut the thought out of her mind. " Sir they are placing all remaining power to their tractor beam" Ravok said addressing Trip. "Ire, get us to a safe distance. Now, punch it!" Trip ordered. ~Tractor beam. We could use brute force, rotating shield frequencies, shoot the emitters…~ Keira thought to give options to break free of the Saber’s hold as Ire responded to the order. Merek was just about to speak up as Trip punched in some commands onto his console. "Ravok, how many life signs on the Saber?" Trip said. " 42 life signs detected, all Bajoran" Ravok answered Trip sighed and mumbled under his breath, Keira could barely make it out. "Where is resistance getting you? Is losing your life when it's unnecessary really worth it?" The commanding officer then acted to save the 400 lives of his crew. Four barely perceptible dark indigo beams lashed out from the bow of the Exeter, visible on the viewscreen. They struck the older vessel that had already taken so much damage from the phaser barrage the broadside had done to it. The hull protested slightly but buckled at certain key points, the lighting went dark as they lost power. Keira had seen the tests, asteroids mostly, but had never seen what the new weapons they were carrying would do to a ship. Mercifully it was brief. Only a moment or two of continuous fire and first small explosions, then larger ones as the antimatter containment was lost. Luckily they weren’t able to secure a full compliment of antimatter otherwise that explosion would have been a lot bigger. It did crack the vessel clean down the middle. Then again from the stardrive section, port ventral to the port side nacelle that was now separated from the ship, crumpled to pieces. The edges of all the crevasses crackled with ambient antimatter, as it ate away what was left of the hull. The CO then gave the order to stand down Red alert to Yellow alert. The next part came as a surprise because no one had mentioned this part to her. "Mr. Ravok, get your team together and get your shuttle expedition ready to go, we will be entering the Badlands soon." "Aye sir." Ravok replied and stood up looking at Ire and Erin " Lieutenants , let's go." He slapped his Commbadge. " Chief Brown, please head to the shuttle." Ravok said. ~Your team, your expedition… your idea. I’ll kill him if he makes it back.~ Had someone hooked her eyes up to phaser power her look would have bored through duranium. Her “eye phasers” were locked on him until he left the bridge with his team. ~You should have told me.~ She didn’t know if the lift doors could have saved him from her wrath, but her concentration was broken by being addressed directly. "Lieutenant Merek you have the bridge." She snapped out of her fugue state and closed down her station. “Aye,” was all she could get out before Trip left to the ready room. Merek sat down in the center seat for the first time in her career. She didn’t have time to relish in it, however. They had preparations to make. She requested all sections respond with status reports. "We'll spend time together after this is over, I promise." "I'll hold you to it, perhaps coffee." Ryelle smiled and then began checking patients. There was one that had been brought in by Nurse McDonald. Looking at the chart, she had an elevated temperature. "Nurse McDonald, was the patient's temperature this high when you brought them in? There were a lot of balls in the air at one time and he had to make sure that he was not getting overwhelmed. This what he had been trained for a what he had been doing over the years so he was able to settle into a rhythm which meant that he could keep a good situational awareness of what was happening. He saw Dr Ryelle moving over to Keira and pause for a moment. ~Okay that’s not just a casual scan of her vitals~ He began to move towards them both. "Nurse McDonald, was the patient's temperature this high when you brought them in? Bio bed is climbing passed 38. Help me try and get it down before it crosses 40." “Yes Doctor.” He scanned her temperature was a lot higher than it had been a few moments before. He activated the bio-beds scanner systems to see if it could give some ideas. ~Infection? There was no sign of it in her initial scans, Ambient temperature? No too fast. Drug reaction? Fits but I only gave her pain killers~ “Doctor. Having already picked up a flight suit and boots on her way down to the shuttle bay, she jetted the bag on her shoulder and moved off to the side of the shuttle to change. Having removed her uniform shirt, she stood in her standard issue vest top and managed to get her legs into the flight suit and tried to pull it up further, "Damn it. This is why I never go scuba diving." Looking up, she caught sight of Ravok, watching her. He walked towards her, " I got you, he said placing his hands and the waist of the flight suit and pulled up on them firmly and jerked her entire body forward. "Woah, watch it man. Keira already probably hates how close we are." She replied with a wink. " Sorry " he said with a smile and adjusted her shoulders. "It's fine." She replied as she closed the front of the suit and stretched. Pulling on her boots, she stood back up. Tilting her head as she noticed Ravok staring at her again, she took a breath as he reached his arms around her and embraced her in a hug he kissed her on the cheek and squeezed her tight. " jol-ao au, Rinam { I love you , sister.} " Resting her head on his shoulder, she leant up and whispered in his ear, "Love you more, Lathuel." " Dont worry, dispute all the rumors and jokes . Ire is the best pilot. That's why your with him and not me. " "That and I think Greta will kill me if I don't bring him home alive. I swear she scares me more than Keira." Stepping back, Erin looked at her brother, her closest ally and spoke, "Look, if we don't… I left a message with Lieutenant Bracken for my parents. She has the necklace too. There's something in my quarters that I want you to have. I left it on the table with a note. Lathuel, you are the best man I have ever met. You kept me sane when I fell apart last year. What ever happens, I will look after Keira. " He smiled at her once more." When we get back, if Keira doesn't kill me. I have a bottle of Tequila with your name all over it." He said as he patted her shoulder. "It's a date." She replied as she walked into her shuttle and began to stow her bag away. "...on the other hand, where he a plant put here by our enemy all the confrontational attitude will do is confirm the bias that he has been drip fed, that the Federation are the Cardassian-loving anti Bajoran flag wavers." (Reply More, Katie, Bracken iyw, Human Female) (Posted by Mat) (USS Exeter - Nine and Dine - Caity Dubois & Dir. R&SE Ashlyn Williams- 1350) Standing behind the bar, Caity shook her head and sighed. The last hit on the ship had rattled the bar something rotten and a number of glasses had toppled off the main bar and onto the floor. Looking at the mess, she sighed heavily, grabbed a brush and began to sweep it up. “I swear if anyone had told me that running a bar on a starship would mean having to replace glassware on an almost daily basis, i would have told them to shove the job right where the sun does not shine.” she whispered under her breath as she leant down to pick up a glass. Hissing as the glass broke in her hand, Caity straightened up and saw a piece of glass sticking into her palm. “Great, just bloody perfect. Now i need…. “ Biting her lip against the pain now shooting through her palm, she sat down at the bar, grabbed a towel from behind it and leant her hand onto the towel. Closing her eyes, she gripped the piece of glass and pulled. Letting out a yell, she dropped the offending piece of glass onto the bar and wrapped the towel around her hand. Ashlyn stepped into the nine and dine to see Caity swear and pull a piece of glass at her hand, then wrap her hand up in a small towel. “Caity...are you okay.” she strode quickly across the room, and slipped behind the bar. She lifted Caity’s arm with one hand and led her out toward a table with the other. “Come...sit.” Realising she had little choice in the matter, Caity sat down with a little wince as her hand lay down on the table and shook her head, “Oh i’m just peachy. I have glass all over my bar and a large cut on the palm of my hand. I’m just perfect.” Taking a breath, she closed her eyes, then opened them, “I’m sorry, boss. By now, pain and me should be old friends but this stings like a son of a ….” “Call me ‘Boss’ again, and it will bloody hurt. I told you before...I’m just ‘Ashlyn’. ‘Ash’ even. Ease up chick. Sit down, and breath. Let's have a look at you.” Nodding slightly, Caity extended her arm towards Ash and unwrapped her hand with a hiss, “That’s not pretty.” She looked over the cut, “That is nasty.” She replaced the teatowel, remembering first-aid courses from how many years ago. “Indirect pressure, press each side of the wound.” Nodding, Caity did as she was instructed, wincing heavily as the pain in her palm screeched into her brain. “We’ll get you to sickbay when you relax a bit. I won’t let you walk anywhere yet.” “Probably a good idea. So, if i’m stuck sitting, tell me what brought you to the depths of the ship?” Ashlyn smiled. “This is your first time on a ship. Mine too to be honest, but Trip prepared me for this.” “Trip?” Caity blinked and looked at her, “Trip as in the Big Boss. the one i hear everyone talk about when they come in here?” “Yeah Trip Williams. You know...Ashlyn Williams?” She waved her hands, and looked suggestively. Caity smiled, a little giggle escaped her lips as she shook her head and then took a breath, “That makes a lot of sense now. I was thinking that one woman was more than enough for that pilot, Ire Williams is it?” Ash laughed gently. “Yeah...wrong Williams chick. I’m Trip’s wife. Pretty sure I told you this, perhaps not.” “No you probably did. There’s a few Williams on this ship and, from what i hear, there’s about to be another….” “I am not marrying anyone else.” “Oh no… not like that… Pilot Williams as he shall now be named by me, he asked his girl to marry him. Guy’s got taste.” “Caity? Honey? Now listen. We are going to sickbay. I can either help you or transport you, but you are going. The CO is my husband and the FO is my niece, so shift your bum, lean on me, no arguments missy.” “Hey, there are cute nurses there…. Lead the way.” Caity stood sharply, took one step and wobbled. “Oooh head rush.” “I said lean on me. Not to jump up chasing…why didn’t you tell me that you reacted like this to blood?” “Blood? Oh, yeah…. I should have said that. Nine times out of ten, i’m okay. If i know it’s there, i can deal with it. But, when it’s sneaky and just jumps out at you…. That’s when i start to feel a little….. Giddy….” she replied, stumbling slightly into Ash. “Arm over my shoulder.” She ran her arm around Caity’s waist. “Lean on me and breath slowly. Turbolift is just down here. “So, how’s the first space battle going? Meet any interesting customers yet?” “No, was in my quarters when it all kicked off. Managed to get to the bar just as it ended. Thankfully, your husband’s bourbon is safe.” She smiled, leaning on Ash. “Thank the Prophets. We’d never hear the end of that one.” She walked slowly, Caity leaning on her. “I must look like such an idiot.” “It’s all good. I see the occasional customer coming out of here looking like this.” “No wonder no self respecting woman will go out with me.” “Sickbay.” She said to the turbolift as the doors shut. “Now that I can’t exactly help you with. You could try a couple of less self-respecting ones I suppose?” Leaning against the wall of the turbo lift, Caity sighed, “Been there, done that. Never again. Long and very boring story for another time when i am not feeling like i’ve down an entire bottle of that hugely expensive bourbon i have hidden for your husband.” She replied with a wink. “If he has a second give him the black label, it’s cheaper and he rarely notices.” Ash winked at Caity. “Can this lift go any slower.” “It’s fine…. Doesn’t hurt anymore. Let’s go back to the bar and sink his bourbon and just not tell him.” “Not going to happen Miss DuBois. You may have glass in that wound. Get your bottom into Sickbay.” Stepping out of the turbolift, Caity saw the doors and stopped. “Do i have to? I can probably deal with it myself…” she said, turning around to head back to the turbolift. Ashlyn pulled Caity back, and switched to a tone that she’d heard Ailynn use a few times, and both Dale, her mum, and Aimee, her sister use frequently. “Look. You are headed into Sickbay, You are not going to argue, because that, would not be a wise move now would it?” Sighing, Caity looked down at her hand, then up at Ash, "I hate doctors. Okay? They give me the creeps. Last time I saw a doctor, he told me…." She stopped as a memory flashed before her eyes. Sensing a story that normal Caity may not want her to know quite yet, Ash pulled her into a hug. “Look I’m here. I am not going to let you go. You have to have that looked at, and the med staff here are all amazing. I promise.” "Promise to not tell the boss I threatened to drink his bourbon?" “If it makes you feel better sweetie.” "Then, okay…. " Caity nodded. "Lead the way, oh fearless boss lady." Ashlyn laughed gently and warmly. “I might tell Ailynn that you’ve been rebottling the cheap ‘38 for the ‘32 though.” Ash turned to a passing nurse. “Assistance please. Incision from shards of glass to right hand, bled profusely and the patient has shown a reaction to the bleeding.” “Straight away Ma’am. Thank you.” The nurse disappeared, to find a doctor. As Caity sat on a bed in Sickbay, looking nervously around, "I'm fine, honestly. Just needs a plaster…" “Caity. You’re an amazing bar manager, but you’re a terrible first-aider. You need that looked at and scanned.” "You ain't gonna let me escape are you?" Caity replied, adjusting herself on the bed. “Caity. You’re a lot of fun, I don’t for a second regret employing you, but as much as I’m technically your Boss, I’m really not, and I’m not letting you run off, because I know that you’d do the same for anyone else, but still you fight it for yourself. I think that says a lot about you.” "Yeah, that I let a stupid fear rule me. It's not…. I just haven't had good experiences with Doctors." Sighing, Caity looked at Ash, "once the crazy is done and I am not being a silly woman who nearly passed out at the sight of blood, you should come to the bar for a drink. I can close early and just have a girls night. I suspect being the Commander's wife can't be an easy job." “You’d think, but honestly we feed off each other. I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. Each second of life is an adventure. I loved it on Mars, and I’d carved a comfy niche there. But once I’d reconnected with Trip, and Ailynn, and Trip and I got together, from then, wandering the stars seemed where both our hearts led.” Biting a lip, Caity tried to hold back a smirk. She caught Caity’s look. “Oh don’t look at me like that we’ve been married a couple of months.” She mocked irritation. “I’m allowed to be a romantic.” "Hey, don't stop on my account. I'm just jealous. Doubt I will ever find a love like that." Ashlyn held the awkward smile that you did when a joke cut slightly too close to home perhaps and fell flat. “I’m sort of surprised that we’ve had to wait this long, something must be up.” "Aw shame… all the doctors are busy. I can come back another time…" “You’ll sit down, or you’re likely to pass out before reaching the lift.” She smiled, and pushed Caity back down. “Relax sweetie.” "Okay, okay. Consider me told." She replied, lying back down. "I can see why he likes you. " Ashlyn smiled gently, "So, noone in your life?" Lying back on the bed, Caity sighed, "no. Flying single unless you count my snake." "Whereabouts is home? Much family?" "Never really had home. There's my uncle. He runs the bar on Mars. Other than that…. No. There's no-one. " Caity replied softly, closing her eyes. Opening them after a moment, she looked up at Ash, "You can go if you want. I won't run. Promise." Ash realised from Caity’s sudden change of demeanour that she'd put her foot in it. "I'm not leaving you alone." "Been alone. It sucks. I dealt with it. Until my uncle took me in." She paused then spoke gently. "My foster mum was the kindest gentlest person you could meet. She died when I was 7 and my foster dad became a horrible abusive drunk. I was the kid from the poor side of the tracks surrounded by Fleet brats."get lost TRAS-lyn." Closing her eyes, memories flashed before her eyes as a tear ran down her face. "He drank himself to death when I was 18. I didn't go to the funeral and went to Bajor on my own to go to College. I wrote a couple of books that sold for holonovels to help pave the way. Utterly alone until I reconnected with Ailynn and Trip a year ago." She shrugged, and fell silent, listening as Caity spoke. "My sister… she was an addict. My parents… they blamed me for her…. Said I was her sister… I should have noticed…. So I left. I ran and kept running until I ran right into Uncle Santiago. He saved me. Saved me from becoming the very thing that killed my sister. He is the only family I have." Caity replied quietly, turning over in the bed facing away from Ashlyn. Ash perched on the side of the bed next to Caity. "I can't begin to understand what that was like." "It is what it is. " "Look. I don't know how to run a starship, I can manage events and schedule appointments, but I can't run a bar like you do. Here's the thing though, I know when someone needs a friend." She reached over and pulled a lock of hair away from Caity’s eyes. "Takes one to know one. Any time night or day yeah? Caity looked at her, smiled softly and replied simply one word. I am ready.” "We're flying into the badlands in what amounts to a warp powered tin can. I think we can dispense with formalities. " Ire smiled slightly. “Okay Erin. We are ready to go.” Sitting next to him, she powered up her console and set the controls to how she liked them, "Ire?" “Yes.” Ire was running through the pre-flight sequence. "I never got the chance to thank you." “What for?” "For saving my life back on Trill." Ire blushed a little. “You were in trouble and needed help. That’s what friends are for.” "I wasn't In a good place in my life. Now, i have had chance to look back and realise that you saved me. So Thankyou." “Not a problem.” "Perhaps, if we make it back, I can return the favour. " “There is no need.” Smiling, Erin winked at him, "Greta is gonna kick your ass when you get back." He paused for a moment. “I might need to take you up on that favour when I see her next.” "We will make it back. I will make sure you do. Last thing I need is an angry grieving Scottish woman chasing me." “Hay you will be fine. Its me that I am worried about she would come to the afterlife just to hunt me down and kill me again.” Smiling, Erin put a hand on his shoulder, "At least you found the one. I've no-one right now. So, you are my top priority. My aim is good so I will be keeping you safe because, quite frankly, your fiance scares me." “She scares you!” Ire grinned. “ I am very lucky to be with her and I am sure that you will find some one too.” "If we survive this, maybe." She winked. Looking down at her console, Erin sighed. "Been a while since I fired anything bigger than an arrow but principle remains the same." Ire smiled. “I am very happy to be back in a small craft again.” He looked over at Erin. “Don’t get me wrong I love the Exeter and she is wonderful to fly but this is where my heart belongs” He then reached into his pocket and pulled out his cable jack and fitted it into a console slit and slid the other end into his micro data port. Watching him, Erin raised a slight eyebrow and then turned back to her console, "Are we good, Mr Williams?" Ire nodded. “Yes we are Ms Cortez." "You know that Ravok told me you were the best pilot of the lot. Let's just hope I am as good a shot." “I am sure that Ravok would not have put you on this mission if you were not able to do the job.” "Now you are just saying that so I protect you from the mad Scottish lady waiting for you." “This is going to be fun.” He looked at her. “What, we are going to new places and new civilisations and if we are very lucky come back and brag about it.” "Brag? Yeah maybe. No new civilisations yet. Just more of the same old shenanigans. " He smiled at her “Is that not what the Starfleet recruiter told you?” "what they told me is a story for another time. " Chief Brown, I am going to get us back here in one piece, I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't scared right now, but my want and desire to make it back is stronger than my fear" he said in a soft and subtle tone. Janey looked at the man and then down to her hands. She sighed a little. "Just old memories, ghosts of the past always come back at moments like these. But it's good to know your desire outweighs your fear" Janey gave a smile that was fake even to her. " I trust you. I know I don't have to worry about you and that brings me great comfort." He said to her. "Kind words, just pilot us safely, I'll keep the shields running, it's terrifying but it's good to be of some use" Janeys hands slowed down as she ran a second set of system checks. Ravok brought the holographics online. The holographic display in front of him showed the current sensor reading from inside the badlands. " Looks like a beautiful day in the badlands" Ravok said sarcastically. Trying to relax himself, waiting on the word from Trip. "I've heard the sunsets are something to behold. You know, for a Romulan you certainly aren't the standard, if I might be so bold. Oh and call me Janey, if we're going to see the romantic side of the galaxy might as well be a little less formal, you think this is going to work?" She asked as she brought up the targeting array. He nodded his head appearing to stare off into the distance of the shuttle bay. " It is a matter of thinking it will. It has to work. " He chuckled. " No but seriously. Yeah I think it will work." He replied, turning his head to her. "Better or I'll be out of Starfleet, won't be able to show my face again" Janey laughed again relaxing and warming up to the man. " And what is the Romulan standard? Lies, deceptions? How do you know that isn't what I'm up to? Gain acceptance into Starfleet, rise through the ranks and take over as a vice admiral one day?" He asked with a playful grin and laughed. Janey laughed out loud "take over as a vice admiral, my dear boy, we all know the Captains have the power. You'd be better off transfering to Engineering and crippling ships from there" " To be honest ...Janey I make a rather bad romulan. I've never even been to New Romulus. Crap I haven't even been in the same with more than one other Romulan. Besides my father I grew up with a klingon step mother , a Reman drunk, a cardassian who loved making jokes about everything and a bajoran man who moonlighted as a poet. " He smiled thinking of them. " Those were good times " Ravok mumbled as he remembered them. For a moment a glimmer of sadness danced across his face, but only for a moment. "The past forms us but the future makes us, sounds like an interesting history, you get us home in one piece and you can tell me more. Always thought I'd be back behind a desk by now, or teaching. See I knew that if they did, given my head trauma, that you'd send them on their merry way, leaving both of us alone." Nix then smiled. He then leaned in, doing his best to seem non threatening and whispered in Ailynn's ear, whispering the words, "Red Arrow." The code given to the first officer and commanding officer of the Exeter in case an undercover agent needed to Identify themselves without blowing their cover. Ailynn was on edge as Nix leaned forward, ready to defend herself, which she knew that she could. However the words that were whispered to her got her attention, the universe suddenly shrunk to encompass only the two of them; and nothing else. Her entire considerable intellect was suddenly centred on the Bajoran in front of her. ~How could I be so blind?~ “Gold Butts” Ailynn replied the coded response. “Butts” It was an ancient word. Some 1000 years after the fact, there were still parts of Terra that were still called ‘The Butts’ these were where the archery practice had been held, all other sport had been made illegal and only archery was allowed to continue, supervised by old Earth clergy. "As you can see, I couldn't be as candid with those two around, and acting like a jerk was probably the best way to get them out of the way. I need to keep my cover, and as much as feel for Sleeford and More, they can't know. Your Intelligence officer will be able to confirm my identity. I got recruited into SFI five years ago, and was "honorably discharged as part of my cover. I've been deep cover around the Bajoran sector for the last five years, mainly helping SFI off of Deep Space Nine find weapon and drug smugglers. Though the working closer to home was definitely a legitimate reason for taking the job." Ailynn nodded, her family had had a long history with Intel, she’d meant to speak to Foxglove about it for a while now. Maybe this would condense a conversation. “Your bravery is to be commended, What do you have for us?” "I have news for your Captain. We had an agent on the Saber, who joined up with the cultists as soon as they started remerging. He was able to transmit data to me. Unfortunately he was unable to get out. That is the reason why I was in the Jeffries tube. I had a listening post hidden away there. The Straps were less for napping, and more for, well a seatbelt. I was able to get the data. I was up there trying to get the data transmitted out on a secure signal to Starfleet, but y'all rescued us before I could. The head wound is legitimate. I have the intel saved to a drive." “Safe Harbour.” The words came to her unbidden, more coded instructions, to both of them. Nix then reached into his pocket and then handed Lt. Bracken the drive. "Its got a location for the groups base in the Badlands. Small Asteroid base. Your agent should be able to authenticate it." She took the data drive, which wordlessly, Ailynn palmed, and then putting her hand into her uniform top, slipped into her underwear. She caught Nix’s glance and shrugged. (Reply Nix) “Data received. Confirm transport.” She gave the standard reply, all the time tilting Nix’s head and looking at the screen displaying the scan data. Doing things for show bored her, she’d read his chart instantly and Nix knew who she was. “You’re mostly fine Mr Nix. some Physio, but give it a week. Our staff will have you to your normal self.” (reply Nix) “I need to get on. I’ll catch up soon. Rest easy.” She patted Nix’s shoulder as she left. “Bracken to Commander Williams. Confirm secure. Repeat Confirm secure.” She’d slipped into an alcove that she knew she couldn’t be overheard or monitored. She knew Trip and thankfully she knew that he knew her to her deepest atom, it was for that reason that she wasn’t worried about the seriousness of her message not getting across. (Reply Trip) “Blue Harvest...Blue Harvest...Blue Harvest...confirm.” It was the penultimate chain of one of the most high security chain of circumstances that may occur; and she instantly knew that Trip understood all of it. Intel Contact-Contact established and confirmed- Eyes only Intel relayed-Eyes only Intel received, not yet relayed to CO, on FO person. Ailynn found herself feeling alive, the tingle of this finding her, filling her. She’d heard stories from her family about the undercover work, but she’d always shunned them. Now though...her mind had found it’s place, and she felt it expand into its surroundings. “Confirm Blue Harvest Dammit!” she snapped. (Reply Trip) (Posted by Mark) (USS Exeter - Main Shuttlebay - CMO Ens Gabe Vesper - 1407) "We were boarded when our shields went down. They gunned down a good number of my crew, and the bajoran crew... they took them, just abducted them and left the rest of us to die." Gabe lowered his tricorder, he wasn't close to his Bajoran heritage but the thought of his people being taken stunned him, the fact that people wanted to remove Bajorans deeply concerned him. His face sullen she continued "Though I can her Nix's voice. Man Mr. Tyko is an enigmatic character but a hell of an engineer. He must have been hiding in his Jeffries Tube nap zone. He thinks no one knows. But hey, he did such a good job, I didn't mind." "Yes, he certainly is an interesting person" Gabe said slowly trying to process things. "So Doctor, how bad is the damage." "The damage? Your ship was destroyed." Gabe relalised what he had said "sorry, you mean you. Erm" Gabe coughed "Mild concussion which will explain your eye, you have swelling behind your optic nerve. Erm, I can deal with the plasma burns but you'll feel a little stinging." (Reply Green) Gabe picked up the dermo regenerator and prepped it. Placing it down he picked up the hypo "This will bring down the swelling in your eye if I may? Tell me, how many Bajorans?" (Reply Green) (Posted by Mat) (USS Exeter - Main Shuttlebay - NPC Freighter Captain, Amelia Green - 1408) "Mild concussion which will explain your eye, you have swelling behind your optic nerve. Erm, I can deal with the plasma burns but you'll feel a little stinging." "Thats fine, whatever gets me back and running." Gabe picked up the dermo regenerator and prepped it. Placing it down he picked up the hypo "This will bring down the swelling in your eye if I may? Tell me, how many Bajorans?" "Seven, seven of nine, Our Engineer, Mr. Tyko over there somehow made it out, and my first officer, a man by the name of Rel Grosel, died in the initial attack." (reply vesper) "It's my fault, I knew this trade route was not safe, that there had been an uptick in attacks, but I, I ignored it and decided to follow the route anyways. The payday was too good. We were delivering a bunch of self sealing stem bolts to the Defari. Shortest route was through the Badlands. We've taken that route a million times. It's a large swath of area, I didn't think we'd be ambushed the moment we arrived." (Reply Vesper) Amelia began to cry, "All those lives, they're on my hands." (reply Vesper) (reply Vesper, any) (posted by Will) (USS Exeter - Sickbay – SPC Ensign Greta Smith -1408) Walking into sickbay, Greta had her phaser rifle by her side and looked around, waiting for someone to tell her what was going on. (Reply Sleeford, More, any) (Posted by Jackie) (USS Exeter – Bridge – 2O/CEO – Lieutenant Keira Merek – 1410) Trip returned to the bridge and walked over to the command chair. "Sorry about that Lieutenant, I just needed a moment to collect myself." “No trouble at all. You’ll be getting status reports with in a few moments,” she reported. “With the pounding we gave that other Captain, there wasn’t much for me to do with Engineering. ” She said. "But we know the Dark Matter Phasers work...." Trip said. “Indeed, a little too well?” Keira exited the center seat allowing the Captain to regain his post. “A more thorough analysis of the wreckage would let us know if the hull had flaws to begin with, or if we had managed to take the structural integrity off line before with conventional phasers, I mean she was decommissioned for a reason. Maybe we unknowingly benefitted? I’m not looking a gift targ in the mouth.” "And if you're going to kill anyone, kill me first, I'm the one who authorized Ravok's adventure." The CO offered. “I’m not ruling that out.” She said straight-faced then let out a wry grin. Trip knew her well enough that he didn’t need to use Betazoid gifts to read her emotions, she gave enough clues that if you knew where to look, you would know. “I’m not angry because he’s going. I’m angry because he didn’t tell me.” Trip sighed and them smiled. Keira went to regain her post while the Commanding Officer gave orders on what was to follow. (Reply any ) (posted by Todd) (USS Exeter - Bridge - CO, Lt. Commander Trip Williams - 1411) They had crossed into the Badlands without two much of an incident and the two shuttles had launched. It was risky, but he knew it was a sound strategy. ~Honestly Ravok is safer as a sitting duck out there, then he is in here with Merek.~ Trip thought to himself, but his thoughts were interrupted. =/\=Bracken to Commander Williams. Confirm secure. Repeat Confirm secure.=/\= ~What now?~ "Lt. Merek, you have the bridge again. Work with the two shuttles, help us map out our destination. I believe Ensign Michaels is working on analyzing their data, so check in with her to make sure Ensign Winters knows where we're going." (reply Merek) Trip then stood up and smiled at Merek and Adala as he entered the ready room once again. ~Should have just stayed there.~ (posted by Will) (USS Exeter - Ready Room - CO, Lt. Commander Trip Williams - 1412) Tapping the secure channel in the ready room he replied. "This is Captain Williams, secure confirmed." =/\=Blue Harvest...Blue Harvest...Blue Harvest...confirm.=/\= ~Oh crap, what was the reply to Blue Harvest, was it White Banquet, Green Thresher....~ =/\=Confirm Blue Harvest Dammit!=/\= "Hold your dang horses Lynn." He said a bit flustered. "Silver Crossings." ~Yeah that is the one.~ (reply Bracken) "My Terminal is ready to receive data. Do you have a means to transmit. Transfer Designation Purple Mongoose" (reply Bracken) Trip waited a few moments as the intel appeared on a secure link on his terminal. "Is this what I think it is, the location of the enemy base?" (reply Bracken) "Tell our friend to take it easy. I'll have Foxglove go meet with him, if she can verify his identity, He'll have free range of the ship. If not, well... Either way, I'm going to transmit these coordinates to the helm." (reply Bracken) "If you're finished down there, I'd like you to come back up, and we can discuss this situation down there as well as our little friend." (reply Bracken) Trip then opened a channel to the bridge. "Captain Williams to Bridge, Lt. Merek, I'm sending coordinates to the helm and to your console at the command chair. Make sure that Mr. Ravok and Mr. Williams get these coordinates and coordinate the voyage to these coordinates, they are our eyes and ears. You have the bridge for a little bit longer." (reply Merek) "And go easy on Ravok. He may be an idiot, but he's our idiot. Williams out." (reply Merek iyw) Trip then sent a coded message to Foxglove's terminal, text only. "Go to the Shuttlebay, ask for Tyko Nix, hes deep cover SFI, verify his identity without blowing his cover, once its verified, he's got free range of ship." (reply Foxglove) Trip then sat back in his chair and sighed. ~I thought I'd be done with the intel runaround when I left the Wing. Am I ever gonna get to be an explorer>~ (reply Merek, Bracken, Foxglove) (posted by Will) (USS Exeter - Shuttle Alpha - COO Lieutenant jg Ravok & QM Mcpo Janey Brown- 1413) Ravok looked at the navigational readout. "Ravok to Ire " He said over the comm. ( reply Ire) " We are approaching the badlands momentarily " Ravok said. ( reply Ire ) Typing away a few final moment commands, Ravok smiled. " Alright buddy. Let's fire these birds up,all systems online." ( reply Ire) Ravok said as he fired up the shuttles Engines and thrusters. The shuttle lifted off the floor of the shuttle bay. He maneuvered the shuttle to face the exit. " Hangar control, this is Lieutenant Ravok .Open the doors " =/\= This is hangar control. You are clear for launch. =/\= Ravok moved his right hand in a clockwise motion on the terminal and slid his left hand forward, as he did the shuttles engines rumbled. The shuttle flew toward the exit and passed through the shuttle bay containment forcefield. The shuttle began to shake. The Exeter's mass was causing some turbulence among the gravitational anomalies. " Just a few more seconds. " Ravok stated as the shuttle moved further away from the Exeter, maneuvering the shuttle to a distance of 9000 meters off the portside of the ship. " Alpha shuttle to Ensign Michaels. Sensors are online and sweeping the area now. " ( reply Adala) " Ensign Michaels, we are transmitting all sensor activity directly to you. Please keep our link with tactical primed and ready. " ( reply adala) " Thank you. Ravok out" He said as he closed the channel but kept it accessible. ( reply Ire, reply Adala) ( posted by mat h and Rob Davis) (USS Exeter - Main Shuttlebay - NPC "Civilian" Tyko Nix - 1413) “Data received. Our staff will have you to your normal self.” "That's a relief. I mean I've been through worse. But I hate not feeling, well optimal." “I need to get on. I’ll catch up soon. Rest easy.” She patted Nix’s shoulder as she left. Nix smiled. And went back to the area with everyone else. He wanted to sneak out and go find something to eat, but he didn't want to add any more fuel to the fire that he started with the two security officers. He had to play rude to get them to go without blowing his cover, but he was actually rather gentle. He had gotten in a few fights in his career, some insubordination, but that was a the direction of SFI, to give more credence to him becoming disillusioned with Starfleet and wanting to walk away. Still, something about the way the two security officers threatened him made him a bit uneasy. They had been rather specific. (reply any) (posted by Will) (USS Exeter - Shuttle Beta - CFO Lieutenant (JG) – Ire Williams - 1415) “How are we looking over there.” (Reply Cortez) =^=Ravok to Ire=^= He looked up from his console and looked out of the view port where he could see the other shuttle. “Ire here.” =^=We are approaching the badlands momentarily=^= “Understood ready to launch on your command.” =^=Alright buddy. Let's fire these birds up,all systems online=^= “Lets kick the tiers and an light the fires.” He nodded to himself and took a calming breath. “You ready to get this show on the road?” (Reply Cortez) “Okay then lets going.” Ire’s fingers move over the controls and he felt the shuttle hum as the power went into the engines. “How we looking?” (Reply Cortez) “Hanger control shuttle Beta is ready to depart.” He saw Ravok’s shuttle lift of and orientate itself to the rear of the shuttle bay. =/\= This is hangar control. You are clear for launch. =/\= “Thanks you hanger control.” He watched as Shuttle Alpha launched. He brought up the power paused for a moment and nodded to Erin. “Here goes nothing.” His fingers forward on the console and the shuttle shot out of the shuttle bay on the heels of Shuttle Alpha. He felt the shuttle shake as they left the Exeter mass and entered the turbulent space of the Badlands. He’s fingers danced as he manoeuvred the shuttle into formation with Ravok’s shuttle and positioned them on the wingman position trailing behind and to one side. “we should be clearing this chop shortly.” (Reply Cortez) He felt the shuttle stop shaking and the ride smoothed out. He grinned to himself as he concentrated on keeping in formation. “Well that was fun but no brown pants moment yet.” (Reply Cortez) (Reply Cortez, any) (Posted by Robbie) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< End Compile >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
