She had tried to explain to Steven what this was going to be like. There were no words. There were only her Steven's eyes. Only his smile. There was nothing but him once Riven began the process of linking them on a level that could never be broken. It was almost as if they shared a soul now. She would never be lost or alone again, as long as she had him, she had a home. He was it. It took a mental nudge from Riven to remind her what to do, but remembered and Steven put the wide golden band on her finger. It had many small diamonds in it. Still in the box was the matching male ring which had no diamonds except a small one, where the ring pointed upwards like an arrow. Alaya had caught the sensation from her father that he had gifts, heirlooms to pass to her. "I am forever yours and with this ring I have made you mine. Never will we be parted." She looked up into his eyes and said with all of her heart, their immeasurable joy broadcast to everyone in the audience and then some. "You are my Heart and my Home. I gave myself to you long ago, and now I take into my keeping the same that is yours. You are always in my care." Riven spoke more and the ceremony quickly ended. Everyone was dismissed to change and in a bit the reception was due to start. :: I am so happy for you two. Your love is beautiful.. I can sing for you at the reception. The Ed Sheeran song you requested I can do. There is another very beautiful song I can do called Kiss Me. Would you want me to do that too?:: Alaya heard Ariel's voice in her head and echoing through her to Steven . Alaya's eyes widened in pain and she leaned into him, ignoring the question in his eyes. Trei's telepathy was not often used and Alaya was a bit raw. ::That's fine. Please join in our joy, Ariel.:: Having no real gaughe on her abilities, her volume was loud and many other telepaths heard her. It was to be expected for the newly bound. (Reply all at wedding) (Posted by Mel) (Mars Base- Arboretum Garden- SecO- PO1 Steven Hammons- 1821) :: I am so happy for you two. Your love is beautiful.. I can sing for you at the reception. Please join in our joy, Ariel.:: The thoughts echoed strangely through his head. This wasn't something he had been prepared for. He had been told that the bond would bring them together in thought and emotional content but the idea of telepathy had never occurred to him. Hearing the thoughts of another through Alaya was like hearing the echo of a rock dropped into the water deep inside a well, muted on the edges but clear on the inside. An inefficient way of expressing it but true nonetheless. The distraction broke him out of his drunken state a bit and he remembered his unclothed predicament. He turned to Boyles. "You're ugly naked and I'll never be able to unsee this." Boyles grinned. "The term has already been coined but I wear it with pride. Butt ugly is my name." Steven laughed until it hurt then looked around and raised his voice. "All right everyone this beautiful ceremony is over. Where the hell are my clothes? Anyone know where the robes are?" Robes quickly appeared and Hammons threw one over himself with gusto. "Now I know how Scotsmen feel beneath their kilts." He raised his voice again. "Reception in the arboretum dome. Follow us. Plenty of food and refreshments!" He took Alaya's arm after she had her robe on and steered her in that direction. He wanted cake and what he hoped was spiked punch. Now that he wasn't naked he felt better but a little alcohol would take the rest of the edge off... or a lot. Whatever he could get. (Reply: Alaya, Any) (Mars Base- Arboretum Dome- SecO- PO1 Steven Hammons- 1845) Everyone had settled in, the food was excellent, the punch potent and Hammons was on cloud nine and pleasantly buzzed to boot. He had just cut the cake and stuffed a big piece into his mouth after feeding Alaya a bite when he heard a microphone start up. It looked like the entertainment was about to begin. He grabbed another piece of cake to add to his plate to accompany the one which had already been half devoured then turned to see Counselor Trei mount the impromptu stage which had been set up for the occasion. (Reply: Take it away Edward, any there) (Posted by Charles G) (Mars Base - Arboretum Dome - ACOUNS ACMO LT LG Ariel Trei - 18.47) She stepped up on the impromptu stage after sampling some of the delicious cake. She had icing all over her mouth in an unladylike manner. She wiped her mouth with a napkin and brought a glass of champagne to the stage to keep her voice fluid. She cleared her throat off mic then got to work. "Hello Everyone. First I wish Steve and Alaya a lifetime of happiness, prosperity and love. I was asked if I would sing for the reception so here I am. The first song is requested by Alaya. Bear with me. The song is meant for a man to sing so it is out of my range but I am happy to try. It is called Thinking out loud by Ed Sheeran. Cheers.." She grabbed the mic and prepared to sing. " And, darling, I will be loving you 'til we're 70 And, baby, my heart could still fall as hard at 23 And I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways Maybe just the touch of a hand Well, me—I fall in love with you every single day And I just wanna tell you I am. So, honey, now Take me into your loving arms Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars Place your head on my beating heart I'm thinking out loud Maybe we found love right where we are" She finished the song then took a short pause to set up the next song. (Reply Steve-Alaya, Any) (Posted by Edward) (Mars Base - Arboretum Dome - SecO- PO1 Steven Hammons- 18.49) Hammons clapped when the first song came to an end then reached for his fork again and began cutting into the second piece of cake. The first piece of the confection had disappeared quickly. He gave Alaya the first bite. (Reply: Alaya) He took another long drink of the spiked punch and found his cup empty.. "Why do they make wedding cups so small? This is supposed to be a celebration after all. They need to be at least twenty ounces!" He made a quick run the the punch bowl and brought back two cups. "Doubling the capacity isn't efficient this way." He was soon gobbling the second piece of cake as he looked about the dome in between drinks while waiting for the second song. (Reply: Selection 2 please Edward, any) (Posted by Charles G) (Mars Base- Arboretum Dome -- CMO Lt. Quinna Solice -- 18:50) Quinna sat quietly in the back rows. She was an adult, she was a doctor, and in the end, she has seen it all, but she had to sit in the back because she acted like a little adolescent when it came to the wedding party. She had to avert her eyes. Her little teenage brain melted as a tear dropped from her eye at the tender moments of the ceremony. As everyone was beginning to settle into the reception, Quinna stole a glass of champagne from a waiter passing by. She clanged a piece of silverware against the glass getting everyone’s attention. “Ladies and Gentlemen, I will make this short and sweet. Let me be the first to congratulate the happy couple. May your journey’s path be long and full of the best of unexpected surprises. Cheers” (Reply any) (Played by Kris) (Mars Base - Arboretum Dome - ACOUNS ACMO LT JG Ariel Trei - 18.55) She took a short break before singing her second song. She intended her second song to be used for a human wedding tradition called the "Bridal Dance." The bridal dance in essence is a means to help pay for the band at the reception but probably will be used for a different purpose this time. The dance unfolds as girls line up to dance with the groom and guys line up to dance with the bride. It usually progresses by everyone taking a shot of whiskey then go take a short turn dancing with their respective dance partner. In this case, the shot of whiskey ended up being a high end vodka Grey Goose, and Crown Royal Apple for a choice of shot. She too the stage. "My second song is going to be a lovely one by Sixpence None the Richer called Kiss Me. I am using the second song for a human tradition call the Bridal Dance. Steve can probably explain it better than I can but in essence there will be a tray of shots of liquor. A choice between Grey Goose Vodka or Crown Royal Apple will be downed before dancing. The girls will line up to dance with the Groom and the guys will line up to dance with the Bride. The turn to dance will be short so everyone can have a chance to dance. I will take my turn last so reserve a shot of Grey Goose for me. Let's begin" The girls and guys lined up when she took the mic to sing. " Kiss me out of the bearded barley Nightly, beside the green, green grass Swing, swing, swing the spinning step You wear those shoes and I will wear that dress. Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight Lead me out on the moonlit floor Lift your open hand Strike up the band And make the fireflies dance Silver moon's sparkling So kiss me Kiss me down by the broken tree house Swing me upon its hanging tire Bring, bring, bring your flowered hat We'll take the trail marked on your father's map Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight Lead me out on the moonlit floor, Lift your open hand Strike up the band And make the fireflies dance Silver moon's sparkling So kiss me Kiss me beneath the milky twilight Lead me out on the moonlit floor, Lift your open hand Strike up the band And make the fireflies dance Silver moon's sparkling So kiss me" (Reply Steve-Alaya, Any) (Posted by Edward) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< DAY 6 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< (USS Illuminar - Deck 2 - FO's Office - FO Cmdr. Sienna Williams-Verin- 0902) Sienna looked the new officer over critically and in interest ss he talked. He was obviously a gogetter morning person as some engineers seemed to be. His hair was far past regulation length, but they had a counselor with blue haired Counselor and while Sekal could be a stickler, he deferred to her on matters of personal grooming of the emotional races. "Ma'am, Ensign Tycho Alantar reporting as ordered. I was sent a summons yesterday from Captain Sekal directing me to report to you today at 0900 for assignment. That is all I know of why specifically I am here. I surmised that - since I'm a member of the MARS base Engineering crew and was involved in much of the Illuminar's refit and upgrading - that I was needed to go over the refit manifest with you. I brought the refit manifest for all non-classified work for the Illuminar with me so we can review it together. I am also ready to do any specific refits or adjustments you require." The PADD was placed in front of Sienna and she nodded, several sips of her monstrosity being enough to jarr her exhausted and not functioning brain into at least warming up. "Right. I can promise you the Captain did not send you here for that. He knows I can read and follow that almost as closely as he does. You might not remember, but I took the Illuminar out on her field trials and you and I worked together during them. You might not remember me, I am sure with all the ship building going on at UP right now, you likely see quite a few officers. Give me a moment." Sienna pulled up her retractable screen while calling out, "Luma?" Then a few seconds later repeating the word or name. She closed her eyes a moment as many telepaths did when speaking telepathically in the presence of others. "Huh. I guess Vex has not reintegrated her. This would have been much easier hsd she been online. (Reply iyw) Sienna got his file loaded in an uncomfortable minute then laughed. "First off, I should tell you that someone thinks you would do well here. Admiral Winters of logistics personally oversaw your transfer to the Illuminar." (R) "Do you know her?" Sy smiled wider. (R) "Ah, lucky you. Two of her children just joined us in the science department. She must have wanted the best to make sure they were safe. And that is not false praise, Ensign. You have done well in a short time." (R) "Since our Acting Chief, Lt. Vex Jordaan does not have Luma back reintegrated, I suggest you head on down to Engineering and see if she needs any help with Luma. Get the classified files from Vex on the modifications to the Illuminar to accomodate Luma and study them. When Luma is back online, be polite, talk to her, make a friend. If you are rude, Lord only knows what she will consider an acceptable time out with us back here at mars. In space she would lock the offender in a shuttlecraft until they learned better." (R) "I would like you to take a leading role if you feel up to it with our junior engineers. We have several cadets internning aboard, Cadet Valar has been with us since the beginning and there should be two others. Tell Vex that I put you in charge of seeing that they manage the requirements to graduate and staying out of trouble. It would be best if you roomed in their suite, but if you do not choose to, I can't make you." While that was true, she could make his life miserable if she desired. He took the moment while the FO fumbled around to take a good sip of his drink. Raktijino wasn't always something he wanted, but it was a great wake up drink, and while he hadn't been at all the revelry, he had his groggy mornings. Sienna got his file loaded in an uncomfortable minute then laughed. "First off, I should tell you that someone thinks you would do well here. Admiral Winters of logistics personally oversaw your transfer to the Illuminar." Tycho tilted his head quizzically, "Huh, Admiral Winters? Didn't expect that." "Do you know her?" Sy smiled wider. Tcho shook his head, "No, ma'am. I know the name, but I've been an engineer since my greenest days so I can't say I've had the pleasure. It's surprising precisely because I don't know her. Usually there is a connection." "Ah, lucky you. Two of her children just joined us in the science department. She must have wanted the best to make sure they were safe. And that is not false praise, Ensign. You have done well in a short time." Tycho smiled at that, his face getting a bit flushed; he'd never been told he could hide his feelings from anyone, "Well, thank you, I appreciate it, can't say I'm not handy with a tool or twelve." As the commander continued, Tycho listened, but let his eyes flick around - a force of habit from his martial arts training. It was also a way for him to cool his jets emotionally, and Tycho wasn't that great at taking face to face praise. "Since our Acting Chief, Lt. Vex Jordaan does not have Luma back reintegrated, I suggest you head on down to Engineering and see if she needs any help with Luma. Get the classified files from Vex on the modifications to the Illuminar to accommodate Luma and study them. When Luma is back online, be polite, talk to her, make a friend. If you are rude, Lord only knows what she will consider an acceptable time out with us back here at mars. In space she would lock the offender in a shuttlecraft until they learned better." Tycho grinned at that, and raised a slightly mischievous eyebrow, "I'll take the warning under advisement." He drawled the words, his minds' eye showing him some faceless non-comm through a shuttle window begging to be allowed to at least go to the mess hall, while he tipped his cup to his lips and to a swallow of the klingon java brew as he did his best to remain neutral. "Other than reporting in and studying, is there anything else?" "I would like you to take a leading role if you feel up to it with our junior engineers. We have several cadets interning aboard; Cadet Valar has been with us since the beginning and there should be two others. Tell Vex that I put you in charge of seeing that they manage the requirements to graduate and staying out of trouble. It would be best if you roomed in their suite, but if you do not choose to, I can't make you." While that was true, she could make his life miserable if she desired. Tycho's happy feeling cooled at the mention of cadets and him being in charge, and bunking with them no less. "If you see my contribution as worthy. I can't really disagree, can I?" He spoke wryly, with a light hint of sarcasm. Sy smiled, "Any questions or comments? The Illuminar is not your standard ship. Have you heard any rumors on base that I can help dispel?" "I hope my new bunkmates like rats," Tycho grinned widely, remembering back to the Academy, when one of his rodent friends slipped out of his shared quarters and went to visit a pair of cadets across the hall. Those two girls didn't appreciate the visitor very much, even though the rat in question was just looking for snacks. (WV) Tycho shrugged lightly, "Some people like canines, others like felines. I happen to prefer rodents." (WV) "I enjoy martial arts, particularly an old Earth style called "Shotokan', I suppose my next stop after meeting Lt. Jordaan will be there to see if there's any classes or training sessions in my disciplines." (WV, assuming a dismissal) Tycho picked up the second PADD he'd left on the desk, it contained the full ship specifications, minus the classified information of course. He'd had the PADD loaded with the information in case there had been something he'd missed on the refit manifest. Standing, he grabbed the mug of raktijino, "Well, I hope I can live up to the expectations, Commander. I'll go check in with the Lieutenant and get the holes filled in my knowledge." He nodded in deference to his superior office, with just the smallest hint of a bow. Having trained since childhood, it was ingrained into him, and his body naturally flowed with the motion as he turned and headed out into the - his - new posting. (Reply WV, none) (Posted by Lorenz) (USS Illuminar - Deck 2 - Ensign (jg) Jordan Transitor - 0921) Jordan accepted the invitation to sit in front of the captain, gleefully nodding his head in acceptance. He listened to the review of his qualifications and answered when asked about the ship's upgraded warp drive. "You mean the swirling adaptation!" he stopped speaking to draw with his finger a swirling motion in the space in between them. "More efficient, less noise. I don't like noise" "I am concerned with the 'skipping', it seems inappropriate. I don't like that," he replied verbally while his body motions mirrored his sentiments. The captain continued with his welcome speech setting the expectation that Jordan report to his engineering presentation where he would meet fellow engineers. When asked if he had any further questions Jordan could not think of anything else to ask. He stood up and nodded in appreciation for being welcomed aboard. He left the room and made way to his bunk assignment. Smiling at all the new faces he saw along the way. (reply any) (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Illuminar - Main Engineering – Engineer Ens (jg) Tycho Alantar - 0934) Tycho looked at his PADD, flagging things he'd need to review. He was pretty familiar with the runnings on most ships, but there were some things he'd have to get up to speed on. That was the nature of Engineering at Utopia Planitia, you see every class of starship roll through if you are around a while, but living on a ship made it yours and understanding her to the last isolinear child and bio-pack was the job of the engineer. As he scanned through the specs he'd already loaded - this PADD was his personal PADD, and had small refits of its own - Tycho wove his way through the ship. Currently the data on it was a duplicate for the meeting before with the FO. Now he stepped quickly towards his destination, a small inscreen map that he'd added immediately out of the Commander's office was showing him the most direct route, so he was pretty fast afoot. Turning the last corner he took in the main engineering deck. Every ship's Warp core was the same, but different. Each Engineering section tended to start reflecting on the CEO's skills and tastes, just as the crews settled and found a working modus after time spent. As he scanned this particular engineering section, he kept an eye out for the lieutenant. Spotting her dark hair he went over, waiting until her current conversation was complete. (Reply Vex) "Lt. Jordaan, I'm Ensign Tycho Alanatar, I've been transferred to the Illuminar and the FO said I should see you to get access to the Illuminar's classified specs, she also mentioned about helping you reintegrate Luma?" Tycho cocked his head curiously, as his activity in the refits wasn't cleared for the level he was obviously now getting. (Reply Vex) He quickly opened a clear section of data space and offered the PADD, "I already have the main specs here, and it's keyed to my retinal scan." (Reply Vex) Tycho scratched his neck briefly, "To be honest, the transfer was a surprise to me. I came to the base from the Academy, and hadn't put in for a transfer, but someone liked what I do, I guess?" His smile was unassuming, and he didn't bother to try and hide behind anything emotionally. He knew that the lieutenant was a Betazoid. One of the first things he did had been to do a look at his direct superior's record. No one had ever said Tycho would miss details where his work was concerned. They had said he would get in the way of danger, but it wasn't for lack of detail, it was a symptom of bravado bred into martial artists and self-styled heroes of many stripes. Better I get hurt than someone else would be the maxim that came to mind. Tycho always appreciated superiors who lead, instead of ruled, and he followed that same maxim. (Reply Vex) Tycho took the PADD back, "I've also been charged with some of the intern cadets, I'm sure the commander already flagged them, so I suppose my shifts will need to coordinate with theirs. That's the last thing I know of currently." (Reply Vex, any) (Posted by Lorenz) (USS Illuminar, Main Engineering – acting Chief Engineering Officer, Lieutenant(jg) Vex'ahlia Jordaan - 0941) Vex was still wearing the large crystal around her neck, it was too big to fit under the Starfleet uniform so it sat proudly on her chest, gleaming and full of energy. She needed to begin the reintegration of Luma but the process would take time, half a day or preparing and then the actual event. She'd put it into Ensign Matrix's schedule that he should return from the maintenance jobs he had just after 11 in the morning to assist with the process. He had been apart of the preparation last time and the only part he didn't get experience with was the actual integration. Time to change that. Carson had told her that they had two Ensigns coming aboard the Illuminar and joining the Engineering department this morning so she intended to get them working straight away on the prep and then also have them present at the reintegration. The more people that were able to become experts at this the better in her mind. "Yes.. no.. definetely not.. sure." Vex said to the Petty Officer in front of her who had just handed her a padd with requests from other departments for sign off. "I don't know who authorised Security to have access to the whole of the Officers Lounge for a meething this afternoon. That's going to put the maintenance crews back by several hours." "Err.." the Petty Officer said, not wanting to answer the question. Vex looked at him and sighed, "Don't tell me." she shook her head dramatically, "Commander Peters? I'll have words." she said with a wink and then passed the padd back to the Petty Officer and turned around. Stood in front of her was short, but stocky man with a long beard. She reminded her somewhat of a "Dwarf" from the innane Holodeck Lord of the Rings games Carson liked to play. Taking in his stance and the fact that she had no idea who he was, she made the assumption that this was one of her new transfers. "Lt. Jordaan, I'm Ensign Tycho Alanatar, I've been transferred to the Illuminar and the FO said I should see you to get access to the Illuminar's classified specs, she also mentioned about helping you reintegrate Luma?" Tycho cocked his head curiously. "AHA!" She said with a start, "So you're one of my saviours? Well welcome, Ensign! I hope you're up for a challenge, there are many systems on this ship that you may have worked with whilst helping with the refit but it's a whole different matter once Luma is reintegrated. Do you have space free on your personal padd or would you prefer a new one?" "I already have the main specs here, and it's keyed to my retinal scan." Alantar said as he passed Vex the padd. She took it and began transferring the information the Ensign was going to need, the First Officers usage of the word "classified" tickled her a little to be honest and she could feel Luma's slight amusement by the idea behind it also. "Classified information it is," she muttered and then spoke a little louder, "What's your experience level Ensign? Did you ask for the transfer to Illuminar?" Tycho scratched his neck briefly, "To be honest, the transfer was a surprise to me. I came to the base from the Academy, and hadn't put in for a transfer, but someone liked what I do, I guess?" "Indeed I did." Vex said, when she'd been asked to become acting Chief, she asked Command to keep an eye out for a few candidates that would be useful to transfer over. It was not in the plan for her to stay Chief indefinetely, there were other tasks that she needed to focus on so the quicker she could get this current batch up to standard, the quicker she could find a command candidate. She handed the padd back, "Look, I'll be honest with you Ensign. Yourself and Ensign Transitor, I'll be looking for some real leadership from the both of you. Trust your gut and use you experience, even though Illuminar has been out already it's going to take some real..." she searched for the word and after a few seconds decided she couldn't find anything better than, "...ooomf to get ahead of the work that needs doing to keep this ship and her inhabitants safe. Is there anything else the First Officer mentioned to you?" Tycho took the PADD back, "I've also been charged with some of the intern cadets, I'm sure the commander already flagged them, so I suppose my shifts will need to coordinate with theirs. That's the last thing I know of currently." "Good. The Cadets are also coming aboard this afternoon, so that leaves you the morning to work alongside myself and Ensign Transitor once the Captain is done with him." As the words left Vex's mouth she felt a presence enter Main Engineering she hadn't before. Before turning around she said, "and it looks like he just arrived." she spun on her heels so she could see the main trotting towards her. She had to surpress a slight smile, Transitor was the complete opposite to Alantar. Where Alantar was short, Transitor was tall.. almost lanky. Where Alantar was stocky, buff or well built.. Transitor was skinny. Sharing her thoughts with Luma and having a small conversation with her about it gave the Ensign time to close the ground with her. (Reply Transitor) "Another one of my saviours." she said, "Ensign Transitor, welcome aboard. I hope you're up to diving in straight away?" Vex asked as she took his padd from him and began declassifying the information he was going to need to help prepare the transition. Transitor was younger than Tycho, a fresher face. (Reply Transitor) "Good. This is Ensign Alantar." she said motioning towards Tycho. "He's also joining our team on the Illuminar. What we're going to be doing this morning Gentlement is nothing short of absolute bonkers. So I'll ask you to bare that in mind as you read through the specifications of the device we're working with." she paused before cupping her hands around the large crystal dangling from her neck. "This crystal is a peice of the crystal that Captain Sekal has used to increase the effeciency of the power consumption within the ship. It also currently holds the consciousness of a being known as Luma'Lenai. I am linked with Luma in a way you may struggle to understand if you have no history with psyionic relationships. She has taken me on as a partner, teacher and friend." (Reply Transitor, Alantar IYW) "It is difficult for Luma to speak with either of you now, other than through me. Suffice to say, she's excited there new people aboard and you'll get a full barrage of questions once we've returned her to the ships mainframe." (Reply Transitor, Alantar) "That's right, Luma's normal housing is the ship you're standing in. Illuminar, as well as being an incredible step forward in technology for Starfleet is also Luma's skin. and you're job this morning is to aide me with the preparations of the device that was designed and built to transfer her consciousness in and out of the mainframe." (Reply Transitor, Alantar) "The transition itself is precarious, so obviously the preparation is actually very... tedious." she said with a smile, "Welcome to Illuminar. All of the main conduits in Engineering need putting into low-power mode as well as the systems around PCC need shutting down. Whilst you're at it, take a few Engineers and make sure the Deck 5 conduit entry points are ready for a full flow of power. 100% nothing less." and laughed a little. "Work together and be at the Primary Computer Core for 1120, with those tasks completed. I'll be here if you need any help." (Reply either, any) (Posted by Jono Bradley) (USS Illuminar, Main Engineering – Engineering Officer, Ensign (jg) Tycho Alantar - 0944) His eyes followed the lieutenant's spin, and he silently took in the long frame of the new arrival. Lt. Jordaan had an upbeat personality, he'd quickly noted, but this one, by his reactions, was another character entirely. They were well within earshot, and their conversation hadn't technically ended, so his ears were perked and ready when introductions were made, and nodded at the appropriate time. "Good. This is Ensign Alantar." she said motioning towards Tycho. "He's also joining our team on the Illuminar. What we're going to be doing this morning Gentlemen is nothing short of absolute bonkers. She has taken me on as a partner, teacher and friend." Tycho listened intently, he'd always felt something of a relationship with the mechanisms he worked on. Every piece of equipment had quirks, even brand new ones, and if you took the time to 'listen' and understand, it made your work that much better. He leaned in with interest, crossing his arms to put them at rest, and interjected quite briefly with that ubiquitous Starfleet exclamatory, "Fascinating," as a smile crept across his features. (Reply Transitor) "It is difficult for Luma to speak with either of you now, other than through me. Suffice to say, she's excited there are new people aboard and you'll get a full barrage of questions once we've returned her to the ships mainframe." Tycho straightened a little at that, his excitement bubbling, "I'm sure she will, I would love to have a conversation. I'm sure residing within the ship?" Tycho phrased it as a question more than a statement, since he'd just made a fairly logical, but not entirely formed assumption, "is a unique experience." Tycho knew what it felt like to be human, but he was always curious about others, knowing your opponent was a big part of martial arts, but knowing the soldier at your side was equally important. (Reply Transitor) "That's right, Luma's normal housing is the ship you're standing in. Illuminar, as well as being an incredible step forward in technology for Starfleet is also Luma's skin. and you're job this morning is to aide me with the preparations of the device that was designed and built to transfer her consciousness in and out of the mainframe." (Reply Transitor) At the word 'job', Tycho clipped his bubbling fascination to its minimum so they could get to the meat of the work. His years of karate, mok'bara and Romulan saber training had given him the ability to focus and control his emotional state. Sparring with a Klingon tended to force you to be THERE and not swayed by emotions. His gaze was level and calm, and he took in the tasks at hand quickly and quietly. "The transition itself is precarious, so obviously the preparation is actually very... tedious." she said with a smile, "Welcome to Illuminar. "Work together and be at the Primary Computer Core for 1120, with those tasks completed. I'll be here if you need any help." Tycho nodded and while he stayed fairly business-like, he relaxed, tedium didn't need him to be extra vigilant, just standard vigilant. To him it was the difference between Yellow and Red alert. Red alert required all your focus; Yellow alert, it depended on the task. He turned his head up and addressed the other ensign, "Sounds like mostly a logistics thing for the moment. We should divy up the work and crew. (Reply Transitor) The short amount of time they'd shared gave Tycho a smidge of a sense that his new counterpart was, well, awkward, to say the least. The back of his mind tickled a memory about his own father talking about one of his students. Tycho made a mental note to call pops and discuss. Having a teacher for a father had given Tycho a front line view of some interesting characters over the years. All this ran through his head while he listened to Transitor. "I'll take Deck 5 to start, why don't you start with the port side here?" Tycho didn't really care where he went, the task was straightforward, but it often made things run smoother if he simply offered to jump in somewhere. I rarely complain about anything.” Then she took a deep breath, as the doctor would discover for herself eventually. “That being said, I should inform you that I have been diagnosed with Pa’nar Syndrome, and I do have some underlying conditions that have stemmed from that. I have had some neurological degradation, and I require some minor treatment for this condition. In fact, lack of treatment could lead to some … unusual emotional outbursts.” “We will continue those treatments. But let me ask… As a Med student, I had to learn about Pa’Nar Syndrome… I know, in 2154, a cure was found. What happened as I have not read a case where the cure did not help. “ (Reply T’Mur) “Of course I will keep this confidential and I will approve your medical and psychological evaluations, but please be aware the counseling team is composed with betazoids.” (Reply T’Mur) “For full disclosure, I thought you should know, in case you have one of those outburst.” Quinna added since she knew how private Vulcans can be. (Reply T’Mur TYL) (Played by Kris) (USS Illuminar, Sickbay - SO, Ensign T'Mur – 1021) T’Mur nodded at the acknowledgment of the treatment plan. Then the doctor went on. "I know, in 2154, a cure was found,” she said. " What happened as I have not read a case where the cure did not help.“ T’Mur noddded, “Indeed, there is a cure. However, in that era Vulcans had just began to tap into their telepathic abilities, and the lack of training had required more cause for treatment. Over the past 295 years our abilities have been honed, and the need for such treatments have been far less. In fact, there has not been a case of Pa’nar Syndrome in the region I lived for nearly 159 years. Supposed I could liken it to the Earth’s disease known as measles. By the time I had been diagnosed I had already suffered degradation. But part of the treatment is another mind meld with a trained healer. That was more difficult to come by. By the time they had treated mr Pa’nar it was already too late for a full recovery, or at least that is what I had been told. I believe that there is more to this treatment than I received.” She paused for a moment, then opted to look at the doctor with some release of her vulnerability. “If you know about the syndrome you know that it was caused by an untrained or improper mind meld technique. It is difficult to speak of but this mind meld occurred during an… assault upon my body. I was literally raped physically and telepathically. I have not told this to many people, as you may imagine. It is… embarrassing. And I still have a trepidation with telepathic contact.” “Of course I will keep this confidential,” the doctor replied," and I will approve your medical and psychological evaluations, but please be aware the counseling team is composed with betazoids.” T’Muir nodded, “I am aware of the crew compliment doctor.” “For full disclosure, I thought you should know,” the doctor added, "in case you have one of those outburst.” T’Mur nodded, “I appreciate your candor doctor, and your confidentiality. This is not something I want known to the general crew,” She was certain that she would not be able to go through another bought of ostracizing. “We are done her, you are cleared for duty,” the doctor announced. “Thank you doctor,” T’Mur said and produced another, private PADD. “Here is the treatment plan I have been undergoing. It would be beneficial if you became familiar with it. I will check in for my first treatment within the week.” With that T’Mur left, thinking that it was odd that she was cleared for duty and the doctor never actually examined her. ~This is a very odd ship.~ (reply none) (posted by Al Muir) (USS Illuminar – Crew Quarters, ODN Panel -- Deck 6/13 -- Matrix -- 1101) Scott had already put in an eight-hour shift and returned to his quarters to shower and a new uniform. He’d been in environmental control, the Jefferies tubes, crawling around fixing and testing various systems. His job PADD was full of requests, adjustments, and repair orders he was working through as fast as possible. ~Seems like this ship had one broken thing after another.~ He thought. Hunger was foremost on his mind, so he ordered the replicator to generate food item number 1101…one of his favorite lunch items. It was quick, easy and would carry him through the next shift. He adjusted his newly washed and pressed uniform, snarfed down his lunch and headed to the deck 13. There is an issue with the EPS trunk that needed his immediate attention. Scott walked to the nearest turbo lift and entered. “Deck 13.” He ordered. Several minutes later he was deposited on deck 13 where he tapped the PADD of his location and acknowledged the work order. Arriving at panel A13-D he opened the ODN panel and started a diagnostic routine. ~This isn’t too bad~ he thought. The computer updated his PADD with the results of the diagnostic and provided several suggestions to remedy the issue. ~Looks like I need to replace the interface control…easy fix.~ He replaced the interface panel after a few moments and watched it boot up and come online. Clearing the job order on his PADD he looked at the next task on his list. ~Main Engineering~ (Reply none) (Posted by Steve) (USS Illuminar, Main Engineering - acting Chief Engineering Officer, Lieutenant(jg) Vex'ahlia Jordaan - 1117) ::Are you ready?:: Vex asked Luma as she picked herself up from the chair she was sitting at. I've decided I'm going to have to work out more if I'm to carry this crystal around on an actual Away Mission.:: Vex joked as she walked towards the door that led out into Main Engineering. (Reply Luma) "Ah, Ensign Matrix. Just in time." Vex shouted across the room. "Ready to go? Ensigns Transitor & Alantar, our new recruits will be assisting and I've asked Lieutenant Gregory to come along to participate if required." (Reply Matrix) "Once we're done, it'll probably be worth your while getting to know the newbies. It'll be nice to have some people that can take some of the weight off these shoulders." As always she had to show her credentials to get into the room too the two security officers stood guard on the outside. Once they were in the room, the faint hum of the core radiated around them. The room was kept as cool as it could be, but it wasn't too cold to cause an issue for Vex or the others. "Lieutenant Gregory." Vex nodded to the Assistant Ops Chief who was standing waiting. "Thanks for joining us. It's always helpful to have someone from Ops to keep an eye on things as we go through this. I'm always fearful that we're going to destroy something elsewhere on the ship when we do this. OH. and what's this?" she said motioning down to what looked like a mechanical dog. (Reply Dieter) "SPOTS? That's fantastic." Vex said as she crouched down to get a closer look. "What level of sensor strength does it have?" (Reply Dieter) "Well. I have the perfect test for it, if you're up for it. During the transference if you can use SPOTs to gather as much information as you can from the crystal that'd be worth it. We've never managed to get particularly accurate sensor information as the ship's Primary Computer shuts down for part of the process and the tri-corders aren't strong enough to get any useful info." (Reply Dieter, SPOTS any) Vex turned to the three Ensigns in front of her, "Ensign Matrix if you'll take the primary console. (Reply Matrix, Transitor & Alantar) "Good. We're about to use the transfer device," she moved towards the large triangular metallic object which was attached to the Primary Computer Core. "This is the second version of a device I designed to provide Luma with a way of transferring too and from the PCC. The first time we did this it was a seperate device plugged in to the USS Mystiques core. (Reply all mentioned) (Posted by Jono Bradley) (USS Illuminar, Deck 5 – Primary Computer Core – ACOps Lieutenant (jg) Dieter Gregory – 1120) Gregory had been summoned to the Primary Computer Core by the Chief of Engineering, Lieutenant Jordaan. He’d not had much time to interact with her during the last mission, so he felt good that he was called. Operations and Engineering have to work closely together, so starting to learn each others style was important. SPOTS, of course, tagged along. After passing by the security guards, the pair entered the room. “Thanks for joining us. It’s always helpful to have someone from Ops to keep an eye on things as we go through this. I’m always fearful that we’re going to destroy something elsewhere on the ship when we do this. Oh? And what’s this?” Jordaan asked, pointing to SPOTS Gregory smiled, “This is SPOTS, Specialized Portable Operations Troubleshooting System. It’s a design I’ve been tinkering with since my time on DS9. I finally got to construct version 0.9 here. Not all the features I’ve envisioned have been implemented yet, but its designed to help identify and troubleshoot issues with its operator. I’ve enhanced sensors and spectrum detection over our tricorders. Using the ears as receivers has given an approximate 30% improvement over the tricorder.” “That is correct Lieutenant Jordaan. SPOTS is designed to help you in your tasks. SPOTS is a good boy.” The robot replied. "Well. I have the perfect test for it, if you're up for it. Jordaan said. “Affirmative, Lieutenant Jordaan. I will monitor the crystal for you.” Gregory moved over to a spare terminal and interfaced with Operations on the bridge, giving the crewman there a heads-up about the impending operation. “It still amazes me about this Luma. I’ve met her briefly, but should learn more about the entity that is occupying the ship, see how she can help operations and more,” Gregory said to no one in particular. Jordaan was busy briefing the engineers, when she mentioned the interface and the plans for same. Gregory would have to make a note of that for later investigation. The information required could be displayed differently, some crew members even needed to adjust the colouring of the displays to match what their visual spectrum equated to. (Reply all mentioned) (Posted by Lorenz) (USS Illuminar -- Deck 5 -- Holodeck 1- COUNS Alaya Hammons- 1228) Alaya had reported in for work today, but only because Steven had. Quinna and Ariel were handling any emergencies so that Alaya could lay back on the couch in her office and lazily dream about Steven. If things were going to be settled for a few days, she would formally ask the Captain for leave. It could be seen as favoritism if her chief witness gave her leave. Her eyes closed she lay in the intensity of the sheer joy and love that resonated between the two of them. Sure, it could be explained, but being properly bonded in the telepathic races was two made one. It was better than any high, it was wonder and starlight. And the night when they truly joined knew no comparison. Alaya had always used her empathy to amplify their emotions and share them with Steven but it was nothing like the true bonding. Luma's unhappy voice sounded over the speakers. Luma knew how sensitive Alaya would be to any telepathic contact except Steven for several days. /^\ "Your Hammons is misbehaving! He has gone into the cold white stuff without proper personal protective gear! Luma offered him a nice bearskin coat and he said noooooooo!!!!" /^\ What the heck had Steven done to upset Luma? Luma was already using the replicator to spit out boots, a fur lined cloak and a muff for her hands. Atop it all was a matching fur lined hat. Alaya knew better than to eschew Luma's offerings and began to get dressed, quickly. ::Alaya get a load of this. "You must be Saint Nick since you seem to know all about me. Yes I just got married and the wife is on her way as a matter of fact. What am I getting for Christmas this year Santa?" His devilish grin was in full force. “You mean I was right. I know a newlywed when I see one. You know I think my Maggie just put out fresh eggnog and some warm Christmas cookies. She's quite a wonder in the kitchen.” His grin went from devilish to indulgent. "Excellent! I'm a big fan of eggnog and absolutely love cookies. You've just guaranteed a return customer." "WOW." He heard his bride come up behind him and turned in time to catch the bearskin coat Luma had threatened him with before he entered the holodeck. Now Hammons wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, he wasn't a brainiac or scientist like most of the people aboard the ship but he didn't live anywhere near the area code of stupid either. He was smart and cunning and could immediately see the possibilities of getting 'into character'. He threw the heavy coat about himself, ~Damn this is warm. I should have taken Luma up on it earlier.~ "Where is it that you have taken me on our honeymoon, my Imzadi?" "The Cariboo Lodge my dearest. Only the best for you. I was just talking with the owner here and they've got eggnog and cookies inside. Hopefully peanut butter." “Oh, no, no. We do not own the place. We work here seasonally. My wife is the town mayor. My nephew is the owner. My Maggie and I were not fortunate to have our own kids so we come up here during the holiday season and make the best holiday possible for the kids here.” Hammons shrugged. "Close enough. I'm liking your nephews place already and hope you don't mind if we make ourselves at home." “Here I am rambling on. The refreshments are just beyond the grand fireplace. Enjoy your stay.” Hammons got a big smile on his face. "Since you insist I'll attempt to make a big dent in the refreshments. We just got married yesterday and vigorous exercise requires a follow-up of lots of food. I'm hungry." He took Alaya's elbow in hand. They were seated before the fireplace in such a way that he could watch the room and the coat was draped over the back of the couch so that he could hold his darling close. His stomach was contentedly full of holiday cheer and he had just relaxed. And then he saw something interesting. The Assistant Chief of Operations walked down the staircase, through the lobby with a glamorous redhead on his arm and disappeared out the front door. "Wow! Lieutenant Gregory has certainly gotten into character." He laughed as he nudged his bride. (Reply: Alaya) And then things took a curious turn, there was shouting from upstairs. I WILL NOT LET YOU HAVE MY CASSIE." The screams were getting closer until their originator came into view. "BRING ME DEE-TAR. HE WILL HURT ME AND CASSIE NO MORE." Hammons had ceased listening once his eyes focused on the knife and that happened fast. As security your eyes always went to the hands first. He jumped to his feet dislodging Alaya and sped across the lobby. "Stop right where you are sir I'm a..." Now what fit best with this scenario? Oh yes! "... policeman. (Reply: Jerry, Jessie, whatever :) Hammons turned and grabbed his arm as he thrust at him with the knife and jerked the guy toward him hard as he spun. The jealous lover went cartwheeling over and down due to the hip throw and ended up with his back on the floor and his wrist locked in Hammons grip. He placed his left foot on the guys chest and twisted his wrist till he dropped the knife. "That was a bad move sir, you don't attack a policeman. I'm going to have to throw the book at you for this." He looked up. "Has anyone got a hefty law tome laying around anywhere?" He then looked down at the guy with that patented grin. His mouth opened before he could stop it. “I’m sorry. Who are you?” “Who am I? We have been meeting like this for 5 years. Are you know? Did you bump your head?” Gregory nodded, “I did, in fact. Installing a conduit.” “Surely you did not forget this,” she said, planting a kiss on his face. Her perfume was intoxicating. He started to return the woman’s kiss when the door swung open. “AHA.” “Oh,” said the intruder. Gregory and the woman pivoted to see a man standing there, mouth open. The woman turned. “What are you doing here? We are done!” Gregory mulled the fact that the woman was married. The woman turned to face Dieter, “Please do not leave me alone with Jesse. Apparently, he is not taking our breakup well.” Gregory stepped between Jesse and the woman. “Sir, please leave, your upsetting,” he paused, “Cassandra.” (Reply Jesse, Cassandra) “Dieter is the only one that treated me like a real woman. Entering the FCO’s office, he put the PADD on his desk. “There you go, all the shuttles are checked out. The UP boys didn’t do too much damage to them. However, I’ve noted where attention is needed by the deck team.” The FCO picked up the PADD and started looking over the data. “Thanks Raid, this helps. The teams are reporting back now so we’ll have everything topped off and ready to go.” “Any idea what’s next for the Illuminar? Any idea about when we are leaving this place and getting some space under out hull?” The FCO laughed, “I’m sure we’ll learn in good time. Right now, we’re just making sure everything is ready to go. Would hate to have something break on the retrofit. It’s funny to call it a retrofit since the ship has only been on one official mission, other than the Engineering trials.” Vic shrugged, “Guess till then I’ll drink coffee and do some simulation runs.” The FCO laughed again, “We’re in a software upgrade at the moment, going to make it more interesting for you pilots wanting to play war games. The AI is getting updated to a new version. Seems Commander Metcalf had it specially requested for the Illuminar. Now why would the commander of the Pilot Academy be requesting the Illuminar get pilot upgrades?” “Probably ‘cause he knows where I am, and he wants to test my skills more. Or take what I do and use it to teach the students. I met him on shore leave, and he’s got an opening for me when I am qualified again to take it.” “Would you go?” “To train pilots? Maybe. Her partner was not listening, his sense of humor having been activated. Alaya sighed and scooted away just a tad. This was a holo drama, so something bad was going to happen and Steven would be saving the day. "That doesn't sound good. I think someone just had their girl stolen. Funny, I've never thought of Lieutenant Gregory as the Cassanova type." "I really should get to know him. She was well aware of the human, almost need, for spontaneity. They did seem to thrive in the unknown. Andrea had once tried to explain the draw of video performances that were purposed to elicit a fearful response. She had called them “Horror Flicks” and “Slasher Movies”. The sudden appearance of an entity whose sole purpose was to create havoc and kill without any notice. T’mir did not really see the draw. Andrea had given up in trying to explain it, and would finally simply state, “Just watch and enjoy T.” T”Mur would watch but could not find the enjoyment, so she just watched in silence to analyze the techniques of the producers. “Perhaps,” she began, “the Ensign will relax his edicts after he has been in command for a while. He is quite new in his position and I have found the new commanders like to make their leadership … felt.” “The training could be ok,” he admitted. "I’m less impressed with the physical training instructors, but that’s ‘cause I spend a lot of time training. The zero gee will be interesting. Not that I get motion sick or anything.., but I am a big fan of terra firma underfoot.” From their afternoon session T’Mur could attest to his level of training. For a human he performed quite well. He needed to brush up on some physiology as some of the moves he attempted would have had more success on other species than Vulcans. But he did, clearly, enjoy the competition and did not have much ego when he ultimately succumbed to her. He had… earned her respect as a fighter. “I actually look forward to the Zero G training.” she admitted. I believe, from what I have observed and experienced, that you would perform well, especially against K’ehleyr.” (reply Devers) “If I may, Ma’am,” Devers changed the subject, "what made you choose Security as a profession? I mean for me, my grandfather was diplomatic security so encouraged me.” The question caught T’Mur by surprise. She stood still for a moment as she allowed her brain to formulate a response that might make sense to the man. Her mind drifted back to her pilgrimage through The Forge. NRPG: Warning- Flashback ahead RPG: It had been the 8th day of T’Mur’s trek through the wasteland of The Forge. Her parents had been against her making the pilgrimage on her own. However, they also knew that due to her condition she would have a hard time finding companions to make the trip with her, she had no alternative. Besides, the last she needed was the accusatory looks from others while trying to find her path. She still suffered from the neural degeneration patterns from the Pa’nar Syndrome. Her muscles would periodically weaken. She would lose control of her emotions when irritated. It all just increased here sense of being an outcast, unclean. She hadn’t asked to be raped. Had not given permission from the mental rape that only increased the trauma. Hadn’t asked for the untrained mind meld that caused her Pa’nar Syndrome. One side of her knew that it wasn’t her fault. But her society shunned her for it. Her parents were disgraced by her weaknesses. It was difficult to separate the actual assault from the results of the assault. She carried a disease that had no cure in their territory, and she was unable to interact with her society any longer. Even her parents had all but turned their backs on her. She had been wandering for the last three days without water. The dehydration was starting to take its toll. Stumbling up a sand dune she saw something shimmering towards the horizon. Blinking the sand from her eyes she tried to refocus. The dryness of her eyes was matched by the dryness in her throat. She moved towards the image that looked like someone running towards her. As the person reached her T’Mur’s mind began to spin, her body followed and she fell into the arms or a heavily insulated priest. Suddenly she was in an oasis. She was laying on a chaise lounge and an attractive Vulcan male offered her a liquid refreshment. “What are you doing here young one?” “I do not know,” she replied as the liquid replenished the dehydrated throat. “I think you do, child,” the male insisted. “No,” T’Mur began to get irritated already. “I have no idea what I’m doing here.” “Then perhaps you should be some place else, so something where your skills and talents are valued. Do you feel valued where you are.” Tears welled in the corners of her eyes but she fought them back. Fist of all she did not believe she could spare the liquid. “No, I do not.” "Then perhaps there is another place to be. Are you aware of the news from Starfleet? I think you could find your security there.” That was when the world spun again, and the oasis replaced by the sands and heat of the Forge, and the shimmering item was a desert transport. In the moments that it took for that memory to play in her mind T’Mur turned to Devers. “Let us just say I had a calling, and leave it at that.” She looked and saw an opening to introduce herself to the “Chief”. “Please excuse me Petty Officer, I must introduce myself to Ensign Lee." They were unnecessary, for her, but she understood the human desire to use them. This Ensign Lee was a bit of a conundrum. He, apparently, wanted to be everyone’s friend and have an “open door policy” (she had learned that that did not mean that his door would actually be programed to remain open at all times, as one of her instructors had used the exact same phraseology and she had almost walked into that door) and also create policies that were clearly not popular, and did not required the typical platitudes of an initial meeting. She raised an eyebrow at the announcement being posted to the Beta Shift. It was not that unusual for ships to run a four shift roster but a six hour shift meant more down time for her, and that might prove to be a challenge. Then she nodded. “I understand,” she said keeping her disappointment to herself. “I will report for duty at 1000 hours tomorrow. Is there anything that you might prefer I do today? I would prefer to get a start on some duties.” She paused for a moment searching for a phrase that he might understand but not reveal to much. “I tend to get bored easily.” (reply Lee) (posted by Al Muir) (Nimbus III – Catcall Lounge – Ops NCO- CPO Charles Tamblyn - 2042) It had been so long since Charles had done anything with the Starfleet Reserves that he had let the hair on top of his head and on his face grow. But then again, one really did not need to be neatly groomed when tracking down the scum and dirtbags of the galaxy. While he was not squeamish about killing, he had a deep dark hatred of the amount of paperwork it created with the Federation Department of Criminal Justice Services or FDCJS. Within the last month, Tamblyn has averaged 2 kills a week. He is almost half tempted to split the reward with his bounty just to avoid the paperwork caused by the shootout and death of an accused criminal. Deep down, Charles would not be surprised if with all of the “preferred dead” warrants, that he was actually cleaving the way for someone else to climb the criminal corporate ladder. If he ever made it back to Earth, he would have to talk to T’Lela about it. While the Romulan woman from a mirror dimension was his mentor, he had at one time been the ward of her and her late husband, Chance Raschen. Starting at the age of 15, Chance and T’Lela had taught him how to be what he had become. Tamblyn’s time in Starfleet simply smoothed out some of the rough edges and taught him how to figure out the details to mission and operational plans. Walking up to the front entrance of the Catcall Lounge was a sign that read “This establishment adheres to the laws of the planet Orion and the rules of the Orion Syndicate.” After entering, he could not help but smirk to himself when the thought ‘what a cathouse’, once he saw that it was in fact a strip club/saloon/brothel all in one. He was a surprised to notice that most of the “working girls” were Romulans and Caitians. The Catcall had many aspects like the establishments that he saw in movies and read about in book of the Western Genre. He felt like he should have tied a horse up at the entrance and strolled in wearing cowboy boots and hat. Charles found and positively identified his target. A fat, slimy, sweaty Orion man that Tamblyn watched punch one of the working girls in the stomach hard enough that she doubled over on the floor. He then yelled at her, “You stupid wench; why didn’t you get the shot at the medi-station like I told you to!” and then he kicked her as hard as he could in the mid-section. The scumbag turned around, grabbed a bottle, and started talking to an Eunepian wearing a Marshal’s badge. After what he had just witnessed, any notion that Charles had of being merciful had been shutdown immediately. Unsheathing one of his Bowie-knives and removing a PADD out of a pocket that had the warrant for capture of the “fat-bastard” dead or alive. The bounty hunter also set the PADD to record scans and audio of what was to happen in addition to copying the Marshal’s thumb print to all documents concerning the Orion and to automatically submit them once the documents were locked. He calmly walked up to the marshal and his bounty, “Excuse me, Marshal; please forgive my interruption.” “What do you want; can’t you see I’m busy?” he asked condescendingly. “Sir, I just need you to sign off on this warrant validating that I checked in with you prior to pursuing the fulfilment of this warrant within your jurisdiction.” Tamblyn explained. “Another sleazebag bounty hunter, the last thing we need on Nimbus III. Just validate the warrant so he will go away, and we can finish discussing our business.” Charles was no fool; the moment the marshal lifted his thumb from the PADD, the document saved and locked. Once he had been handed back the PADD, Tamblyn’s blade went up into the fat man’s skull entering through the soft tissue behind his jaw. With a twist of the knife, along with the crunch of bone, the proprietor dropped like a sack of potatoes. The bounty hunter did not make any other aggressive movements after that. The marshal on the other hand drew out a phaser, “you are under arrest for murder, Stranger.” “I don’t think so, Marshal. According to the FDCJS investigators, you are a known associate of this worthless sack…” Charles started as he pointed to the dead man, “…and you sir, have already acknowledged his posthumous capture by, AND authorized the payment of the reward.” As he reached down and withdrew the knife from the Deadman, “You really should read things before signing them.” He finished as he straightened up. The marshal simply turned with a huff and departed. “Marshal, before you go, I wish to make you a deal.” Stopping in his tracks, the Eunepian turned to face the bounty hunter, “What deal would I make with you?” Pointing to the corpse on the floor, “with him dead, you are the sole owner of the Catcall. I’ll buy it from you for the price of the bounty on his head. Is it a deal?” “Fine, Deal. At least I will be able to afford getting off this God-forsaken rock.” And then the town marshal departed the Catcall Lounge. Tamblyn turned to the Caitian female that was hit and kicked. “I am putting you in charge of the Catcall; at least for the time being. No new employees are to be hired until I say so. I leave Nimbus in two days; any current employee is welcome to depart with me. If you decide to remain here and run the Catcall, you will treat all the employees the way you want to be treated.” Two days later, all the employees of the Catcall Lounge departed Nimbus III with Charles and went to Earth with him and he loaded up any spare cargo space with contraband alcohol. He hired them to work on his ranch in Texas on Earth. As for the Lounge itself…he gave it to a homeless dreg to help him get back on his feet. Keung was going to observe the first session conducted by the instructors. There were twenty participants altogether. Apart from the Alpha shift Security crew, he threw in ‘a melting pot of crew" selecting various folk from different departments who were not entirely familiar with each other and seeing how they work together. Keung looked at the gathered participants who were either milling around chatting with each other or doing warm-up exercises. They were too much casual about the whole exercise. He arranged the training to start at 0600 in the morning. Better now than later in the day. (rely anyone) The four instructors were gathered around Keung “Okay. They all yours. Ensign McCaskey. You lead off.” “Ensign McCaskey moved into the body of the participants "Alright, stand to!" he roared, "We're not in the playground now. You been chosen because your records show you have what it takes... you have a good mix of skillsets. In the next couple of hours, you will have to work together, look out for each other, encourage each other. Am I being heard?" "Sir!" the reply came as one voice. "What, I can't hear you!" shouted Lee as he walked among the rows and columns of the assembled group. "YES SIR! WE HEAR YOU!!" came back the replies which echoed throughout the room. (reply anyone) "Excellent. Before we get started, there are some ground rules which must be followed." His voice started to get even louder as he continued. "First of all, there are no quitters allowed here. If I find someone that quits, then they will be penalized and make the rest of the squad's training longer." His voice got even louder still. "Second of all, there are no whiners allowed either. If I catch anyone here whining, then it will be harder for that person. You got it?" (reply anyone) "Now, you are to get down on your backs!!" ordered ensign McCaskey (reply anyone). "We are going to begin with a cantering exercise. Not that Devers didn’t hit the gym every day and spar for at least an hour afterwards. Clearly he needed to establish his department. ~let’s see how this goes~ One the new Ensigns, McCaskey he recalled started into the tired old litany he’d heard before. As a boot it was CPO Goakrul Sen, a Betazoid who could tell when someone wasn’t giving there all. He had a cruel streak, and the made the daily dozen an extreme exercise. “Sir!” called out the fellows around him. Devers shook his head to clear the memory. ‘What, I can’t hear you,” Lee shouted. “Yes Sir! I hear you.” He called with as much enthusiasm as he could muster. This was merde, it was for recruits, not senior crew who knew better. Lee set some more ground rules. Devers had to chuckle to himself. Even though he was only a PO3, he’d seen Ensigns like this. Trying to show off how hard they could drive the troops. It was going to be a long day. After a crazy shouting exercise, it was time for jogging and pushups. Dever’s ran the circuit with the others, and when it came to the pushups, he cranked out 40 without breaking a sweat. Not that he was showing off, but he finished his last ten doing power and clap pushups. Another Ensign took over, this one blew a whistle, yelling commands, pointing to a wall. Devers trotted over there with the others. When he got there, he stood by the wall and interlocked his hands for the others to use as a step to get over the wall. Another one of the team did the same, and the team got over the wall in short order, with Devers the last one. He had to jump up and grab the outstretched hands of two of the team on the top of the wall. The next two hours were more of the same, as if everyone was a new recruit. Eventually, Keung stopped the exercises, “That's it everyone. You've done very well for the first session. Your performances will be evaluated by myself and the instructors. then we will send out your feedback. Now hit the showers. Dismissed.” Devers watched as the others headed for the showers, while he headed for the weight rack. Since he was here, might as well get his weight training done for the day. There was one particularly unique situation which he hadn’t been aware of until late last night when the email came through to find out when Ensign McTaggard was going to start her Science rotation onboard. He’d had to double check and make sure they meant Penny and there hadn’t been another McTaggard added to the roster. Well... his welcome aboard to the new officer had been a bit off the wall but how was he supposed to know the Ensign on the shuttle that met the Mystique in Trill space had been a transfer? Heck even Saarsgard didn't even know the sealed orders he was carrying were his transfer orders. "Nah I'm just pulling your leg,” Hammons assured her, "metaphorically and figuratively speaking. I wouldn't actually pull your leg, the new missus might take exception to it." He winked. Everything that Hammons said made complete sense, but made absolutely no sense at all to the Vulcan. The thought of performing their duties as if they were on some museum tour somewhat amused T’Mur. She could imagine Hammons making comments about the sights that they were seeing. However, she wondered how anyone would manage to fit hull plating into their pockets. It simply would not fit. Unless of course their pocket contained some kind of 4th dimensional spacial portal. But that was highly unlikely as that kind of technology was still in the experimental stage. “How wold they fit hull plating in their pockets?” she asked. He walked away toward the turbolift laughing. "I can't help myself, I'm in rare form today. All aboard for deck fifteen.” T.Mur shrugged realizing that he was, once again, being metaphorical. I did quite well grade wise.” Penny said, again not quite meeting Carsons gaze. "I'm confused... you missed the meeting because you were on an unassigned guard duty or you missed it because you deemed something within the Science department to be more important? Out with it." Carson barely lost his temper, years in Security alongside years of Counselling had taught him to stay calm in most situations. (reply anyone) (written by Keung) (USS Illuminar, 2O’s Office - 2O, Commander Carson Peters - 10:16) Carson sat there as he watched the Ensign calculate a response in her head, he could almost see the gears moving as she worked through her anger of being accused of not following orders. This meeting had gone somewhat down the rabbit hole. “Why are ye treating me this way? It was not my fault they did not put up the change in personnel. Ensign Patterson fell ill at the last moment and I was called and told to stand in for her. I would never behave in a manner unbecoming of a Starfleet Officer." He sighed a little before standing up and moving to his desk to receive the appropriate information and then walked back to the seating and sat down. Activating the padd with his identification he said, "You're sure about this?" in a low but firm voice. “That is the truth sir. As I was at the back. Of the meeting. They were able to pull me out. Without anyone disturbing anyone. I was told to go on duty immediately and a padd. With all the details of the meeting. "I'll stop you there before you go saying anything else to deepen the hole you're digging." Carson said matter-of-factly and handed her the padd. "Read it." He sat back as he watched the Security Ensign quickly flip through the signed off confidential orders he himself had signed the day before. "As you'll see there, Mars Security was coming aboard to oversee the critical areas during the meeting. There was no need for an Ensign Patterson, nor anyone from Illuminar Security to be involved? Nor was there an Ensign Patterson coming across from Mars?" He posed it as a question. “Well that is the truth. If you don’t believe me. Get a telepath to read my mind.” Penny said in response. ~Standing firm,~ Carson thought to himself as he looked the young woman up and down. The investigator instinct told him she was telling the truth, she believed what she was telling him, whether it was the truth or not. "Ok." he said before pausing and taking the padd back from Ensign McTaggard "and upon receiving these orders you went and stood guard at the PCC alone?" (Reply McTaggard) "and you know the person that pulled you out of the meeting?" (Reply McTaggard) "I ask, because this is incredibly serious and I'm sure you can see why. Do you have any questions?" As Carson said it. Penny began to think. Yes it was odd that no one else had come along. But she had assumed it was because of the meeting. Plus the voice on the other end had sounded muffled. Suddenly something else popped into her head. She had been told to stand guard in a different section of the PCC. Someone else could of been standing there. In the correct area. If that was so then. Why? Why?......,suddenly it all became clear. Anger began to pull at her and her ears felt hot. “ No sir. I know what has to be done.” Penny replied ( Reply , Carson ) “ Oh don’t worry sir. (reply Hammons) (Posted by Al Muir) (USS Illuminar- Deck 1- Ready Room- CO, Captain Sekal – 1100) The Vulcan was immersed in considering the ongoing upgrade to the phasers as well as updated departmental readiness reports. By far the most prolific of the latter was from the security department. Vulcans have always been noted connoisseurs of efficiency and the work of Ensign Keung Lee in 'whipping the department into shape' to use a Terran colloquialism was impressive and had raised a literal eyebrow. There was a complete duty roster for that department filed along with the minutes of an earlier departmental meeting. Physical training exercises had been scheduled as well. There was an additional request to be allowed to unpack the special security armored suits he had arranged to be brought aboard in order to begin training in their use. Sekal confirmed acceptance of the request using his command code which sent out an order to ready them for testing. These suits were not Maine BDU armor but lighter and optimized for light reconnaissance in airless and harsh environments. They wouldn't stand up to any kind of prolonged combat situation due to the short life of the power supply but could be used for short durations in that capacity due to the operational energy shielding. He then turned his attention back to the upgrade. It was due to be completed in two days time after which the engineering team would do a final check for functionality. The briefing on the upcoming mission had been completed as well. He opened the ships intercom. "This is the Captain. The briefing for the upcoming mission will be held at 0900 tomorrow in Conference Room 1, Deck 1. The attendance of all officers is required." Assistant Chief of Security Ensign Keung Lee 1400) The Security Office on deck 14 deals with routine administrative activities associated with security and the armoury. It was also the location of the security monitoring centre which was in the next room. The communication point for ship’s company to contact if they needed information or help. Calls would come through and they would assign the duty security detail to answer that call. Starfleet security and intelligence routine bulletins were often re-routed to the Security Office. Keung felt that he didn’t have the time to read everything most of it was either trivial or involved news that didn’t relate to the Illuminar. In any case only items that were flagged for ‘Security Chief’s eyes’ only drew Keung’s attention. Keung was holding a briefing session with his three duty shift officers who had updated him with the progress reports. It was the turn of Crewman Jefferson, who was a weapons specialist in the armoury. Jefferson began with “As you know, there are lockable cabinets on every deck containing weapons especially hand phasers.” Said Jefferson. It was ship policy to have accessibility to weapons in case the ship is boarded. “However, since the refit, we can’t locate where some of the hand weapons are stored particularly as I found out they were not tagged. Also some of the lockers are empty. I’ve Luma about them and she said there are no record of them on the computer database either. The computer warning system would only be aware of the location of a phaser if it malfunctioned and blew up! Keung suddenly felt distinctly uncomfortable “So where are the missing weapons likely to be?” “Well I did hear that some phasers were kept in the most unlikely placed. The rec deck, the gym..” replied Jefferson. Keung looked at the shift leaders. “This is a serious matter. We need to find them before we depart Mars. Put together a search party from each of your shifts and co-ordinate with Mr Jefferson please.” The voice of Captain Sekal came over the ship’s intercom "This is the Captain. The briefing for the upcoming mission will be held at 0900 tomorrow in Conference Room 1, Deck 1. The attendance of all officers is required." Keung pressed his commbadge “Ensign Keung to the Captain. Acknowledged.” “Well, if there is nothing else, I bring this session to a close. Bring me some positive results Mr Jefferson..ASAP” (Reply none) (posted by John) (USS Illuminar -- Gym -- Deck 5 – Assistant Chief of Security Ensign Keung Lee – 2300) Keung pressed the entry panel to the Gym and discovered that the only occupant in the gym was PO3 Carol Linnis who was doing some stretching exercises. He approached her to thank her for completing the armour suits. As he stepped in behind her and tapped her shoulder. Immediately an elbow strike caught him in the solar plexus, her barefoot came down hard on his instep, she caught his arm and flipped him. It wasn't until he was airborne that she realized that it was Keung.. Keung literally flew through the air and stretching his hands ahead of him, he landed on the mat using the arms to support him. He rolled over and looked up in amazement at Carol. Keung looked up to find some of the exercisers were looking at him She sucked in a breath, bent over at the waist with her hands on her waist, and said, "Sorry." She ran a jacketed arm across her face to clear her eyes of sweat, and added, "I was so focused," breath, "...that...I just reacted. Are you okay?" She winced as he rolled again and climbed back to his feet. "er..I'm fine" said Keung who thought about some moves that would be useful. “So what are you doing here at this time of night?” “Well, I’ve been rather busy in the Armoury with checking the armour suits so I thought I do something different. After it’s the graveyard shift so I didn’t think people were in here. “Well…how about a one-on-one," challenged Keung. "Right now!" Carol looked at Keung with some surprise and replied, "It would be an honour, if it wasn't so ridiculous... I mean with your experience." She smiled and knew she could learn a lot from this man. Keung waved his hands towards the mat indicating Carol go first. Carol walked ahead of Keung, He suddenly clasped his arm around her neck and brought her onto the mat on her back. As Carol lay breathless on the mat, Keung started his next move, sat on her stomach and held her arms against her chest! "Lesson number one... never take your eyes off your opponent. No such thing as common rituals." "Ouch!" she said when she could get her breath back, and then added, "you barbarian." His legs were pinning her and his arms had hers over her head. Keung released her arms and jumped up just as Carol swung one of her legs but missed Keung s own leg. Keung grabbed her leg with his hand and spread her other leg. He let go of both legs and waited for Carol to stand up She was sweaty and tried for a low kick but didn't impact and she maintained her balance. They circled, looking for opportunities and Carol grabbed Keung with her hands, and to her surprise brought Keung onto his back. Keung felt winded as a result. He then felt pain in the side as Carol Linda struck him with her bare feet. Garry rolled over to get into a better stance but hadn't anticipated Linda diving on him and pinned him on his stomach by sitting on him. Keung started breathing slowly. With a shout, he pushed hard on his hands and lifted his body and Carol off a foot before turning rapidly on his side. With two movements, they reversed positions with him on top of her and threw her whole body over his head. She landed on her left shoulder and back."Oomph," she grunted. At that moment Keung went into a killing stance with his fist aiming at her jugular. "Lesson number two. Anticipate the unexpected. I win," smiled Garry he lifted Carol to her feet. She reached up, was rubbing her left shoulder and went and sat on the stack of folded up mats. “Another bout?” asked Keung. He saw the shocked expression on her face. “I think we deserve some late night drinks. Let’s go to the Rec Deck. See what they got.” (reply none) (posted by John) (USS Illuminar- Deck 3- Personal Quarters- ACSO- Lt (jg) Jaton Alyl- 1920) Since Jaton had heard of the nearly miraculous work that Dr. Riven Mias had done with other members of the crew, Jaton had been thinking over going to visit him himself. He thought to himself that he was well on the mend on his own and working with Counsellor Trei, but at the same time, what harm could it do? And now that he had come aboard the Illuminar, the issue had come to a head. As he often did, he tried to convince himself that his own problems weren’t as bad and surely there were people more in need of Mias’ help than he himself did. But on the other hand, if he hadn’t asked for help in the first place, where would he be now? Probably locked up in some Federation psych ward for life. He pondered the fate of his alternate self for a bit longer than was comfortable, and that sealed the deal for him. He got off his bed and straightened his uniform. “Computer, where is Dr. Riven Mias?” [Riven Mias is in his quarters.] Jaton nodded and walked out the door. Within a few minutes, he had found where Mias’ quarters were and steeled himself for the task ahead. He extended a shaking hand and rang the door chime. (USS Illuminar- Deck 3- VIP Quarters- ACSO- Lt (jg) Jaton Alyl- Federation Ambassador at Large, Dr. Riven Mias and Michaella Kirien-Mias- 1925) Riven was lounging on a sofa in the main living area of the VIP quarters. He had been on ships before many times as an officer and had attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander so was well used to the typical Officer's quarters. This was not one of them. He had been on ships since then in similar situations as an ambassador and found that he had trouble getting used to them. Whether it was a Galaxy class or Sovereign or a smaller ship such as the Illuminar it made no difference. It was as though he was in an apartment planetside and not on a ship. This robbed the experience of space travel of some of its quirks. Not romance, heavens no! The work of an officer aboard a ship could hardly be called romantic. The work was long and often tedious when not terrifying or tense. It was these extremes of being that opened the people aboard ships up to horrifying emotional disabilities. He had experienced shipboard life and knew it well. He still carried his rank though it was mostly honorary and seldom used however there were every now and then cultures that placed great value on rank and status. When dealing with such that rank gave him more credibility and made his job simpler. There was an expansive screen on the wall which he was watching a movie on. Officers and crew often forgot how simple things such as this could lessen the pressure of their assignment. The video was taken from a selection of entertainment he had brought with him. Many would have been obsessing over the details of the coming task at this point but not Riven, he was well aware of what was required and more than up for the job. When the chime rang he looked toward the door, his initial thought was it was one of the command crew but his searching thought verified it was most certainly not. "Come in, come in." He called as the door opened to reveal one of the officers he had met at the briefing. "Come in and take a seat, I was just watching a movie. Screen off." The monitor blanked as Jaton Alyl entered. Jaton hesitated in the entryway. “Oh, I’m terribly sorry, doctor. I didn’t mean to interrupt. I can come back later if you prefer.” "By the goddess no! Come in, take a seat and relax. I don't get many visitors and I'm most certainly not going to turn one away." Riven motioned to an easy chair. "Besides I love talking and would rather do that than watch a video I've seen before. Come in." Riven was sensing some emotional turmoil from the officer and wasn't about to let him get away. "I could pull rank on you if necessary." Then he gave a welcoming smile. “As long as you don’t consider me to be intruding.” Jaton went and sat in the char that Mias had indicated, but didn’t let himself relax. He sat up perfectly straight and properly, like his parents had always taught him to do. He was quiet for a good deal longer than he should’ve been, and was struggling to find the best way to ask for what he wanted. Riven. chuckled. "If I had thought you were intruding I would have said so. Once someone is around me long enough they figure that out pretty quickly. I say what I think and can be blunt when it's called for." He leaned back into the sofa. "Case in point. I don't have to read your mind to know you came here for something extremely important to you. I have the empathic gift that's quite as strong as my telepathic. You are conflicted about coming here so you are sitting quietly in my living room rather than talking about it. How am I doing so far?" Michaella slipped out of the bedroom and quietly moved around, getting refreshments and placing a tray of hot and cold teas and finger-foods between her bondmate and his guest before going to withdraw, "I will stay in the office unless you need me." She was lovely for an almost sixty year old Betazoid. Riven smiled adoringly at his wife. "Thank you my love. I don't know what I'd do without you." "You would starve." Her eyes smiled as she looked over at the Trill. "Dr. Michaella Kirien-Mias. I am a medical doctor if it helps." She nodded and took herself off to give them privacy. She had told the Trill about her medical skills to reassure him that she would not intrude. Jaton swallowed, trying to build up the courage to say what he had come to say. “You’re spot on, so far, doctor. It’s something that I’ve been struggling with for a while and I’m still trying to find the right words and to find whatever courage I might have to try and ask for your help. I’ve been told you have a talent for healing minds. Is that true?” Riven's smile got a bit brighter. "Young man there are some who say I was born to it. They gave me the title of son of the goddess because of it. I've used the talent both within the fleet and without and when I'm not a Federation Ambassador it's what I spend my time doing. I've traveled to far off worlds at request to bring healing to crippled minds and if you require a reference there is one aboard I could put you in touch with if that person is willing." Riven wasn't about to say who that person was as it was confidential information but he would ask them if they were willing to volunteer to do so. It would be given by her with no prodding from him. "So then I assume a mind healer is what you are looking for and you have found one." “Well maybe you would be willing to hear what I’ve been struggling with first? That way you might know better who to pass me onto, if at all.” "Absolutely. I've done time in the fleet as a Counselor as well. You have no need to worry about confidentiality. I'm bound to It just like any other medical professional. So tell me what's been bothering you." “Well, here’s the thing. I may look young, but I’m not. I was born in 2391. I know I don’t look it. But that’s because I was killed on an away mission in 2419. I don’t know exactly what happened to me, but somehow I was revived last year, after having spent the last 25 years as a corpse. But there’s evidence that I’m not the same man as the one who died on that station all those years ago. So I’ve been struggling with what my place is in the world and who I even am ever since.” Riven crossed his legs. "You say there is evidence you are not the same man but what evidence is that? It could just as easily be a dissociative disorder caused by the effects of waking up after being presumed dead. And when I say presumed I'm not questioning what you believe, just searching for a way to validate that." Riven then reached to the table and picked up a cup of delicious hot tea and a quarter of a sandwich. ::Thank you again my love.:: Jaton was starting to slowly feel more at ease with Mias, but he was still somewhat on edge. “I was joined with the Alyl symbiont in 2415. In looking at the logs of the event and accessing the records of the Symbiosis Commission, I know that Alyl survived the incident, and was transferred to a new host. I have the name of the current host and some details about her. I haven’t met her but the information was corroborated by official sources. And yet, despite that, I am still joined to Alyl myself. Scans have confirmed it, and I still feel him within my own consciousness and body.” That got Riven's immediate attention! "Your symbiont has or is a doppelganger? Oh… now that IS interesting. And records of that time would seem to be conclusive?" Riven's eyes began to sparkle at the mystery. "Pardon me while I enunciate the possibilities but this is all going to lead to the same place which I will get to momentarily. First possibility is that the records were faked and the symbiont joined with the new host is another. Before you ask the obvious question of why let me answer it." Riven took a long sip of the tea but set his sandwich down, this wasn't a time for eating. "I've met a lot of people in my time both in the Fleet and out, many of them very good people and I've also met some very unsavory types. Not just Starfleet Intelligence, security, politicians, would be dictators…. Yes I was around when the 52nd battle fleet broke through the defenses around the Mars Defense Perimeter and Earth and took down Doenitz. And I will tell you that sometimes their motivations are hard to decipher. Had something been revealed to the Alyl symbiont they wanted to cover up? Might they have wanted him to vanish as well? The death of a symbiont would have entailed a massive investigation, I know something of Trill politics you see. It would be simpler for someone in the Symbiosis Commission to have been used to bring in a doppelganger for Alyl, simpler and with far less noise than allowing an investigation to proceed. And don't think someone in the Symbiosis Commission couldn't be bought or coerced, far more noble aims than this have been corrupted. Official sources and paper trails are all too easy to manufacture." Jaton frowned. “I suppose that might be true, but then again, I was able to access the old Paladin logs thanks to Admiral Remae, and their logs corroborate the idea that the other Alyl is the true Alyl symbiont. And I trust my old crewmates.” "The next possibility is an interdimensional anomaly, a Jaton Alyl from an alternate dimension substituted for the Jaton in this prime Universe. Here is why this possibility won't work." He leaned forward meaningfully. "Q. Yes Q. I've read the report on the mission Illuminar just came from. I know what happened and how it was initiated. The Prophets disposed of an alter-universe orb that was destabilizing our reality and since the rifts have healed what has happened? Commodore Remae restored, lost ships appearing, hosts of people either here that weren't or gone who were. And once the Universe stabilized to the new normal you, Jaton Alyl are still here." Jaton shrugged. “That’s definitely possible. I just wonder then why I have memories of this universe’s Jaton, and none from this parallel universe.” "And there are still others but in the end you are forbidden to meet with the new host of what is said to be the Alyl symbiont because of Symbiosis Commission laws. Convenient isn't it? So you may never know if it is truly Alyl or not. That is now beyond your control but living is not. You are the Jaton Alyl of this prime universe, you are here now and you are alive. You are serving Starfleet as I assume you were doing when you lost your life and are once again in your preferred place." He set the empty cup down and his eyes bored into Jaton's. "So now the question. What will settle your mind? As a mind healer that is always my first question. What can I do that will give you peace?" Jaton sighed. “Honestly, I don’t know. I’ve been working with Counsellor Trei for a while now, trying to work through this trauma of losing 25 years of my life as well as the visceral memories of my death, but that has only gotten me so far. I know that nothing will ever be the same again. I have two sons who are just about my age now. I suppose I just feel like a fish on dry land. And I don’t want to be.” "Completely understandable. You have gone through a horrendous transition. You weren't around for one of the most joyous events of a person's lifetime, have a blank spot twenty five years long and by your admission apparently remember the manner of your death. Using standard psychiatric counseling treatment for such trauma could span years." The mind-healer uncrossed his legs and leaned forward. "Mind healing is not standard counseling treatment. During a mind healing session I can follow the memories of a person back to the root of their issue and relieve the trauma. If successful it would free you up to live a normal life." He peered intently at Jaton for a moment. "I say if successful because success is never guaranteed. I am perhaps the most successful mind healer of my generation yet even I have had my failures." His thoughts went back to Dr. Trommashere. Had he allowed himself to become too close to her? Is that why he had failed? In the end she had been as troubled as when he had begun her counseling. This had been his only failure and no other mind healer could claim half his accomplishments. And failure to Riven was unconscionable. His eyes returned to the Trill's face. "There are other things to consider as well, I could probe the blank spots in your memory to see if there are any clues that would lead you to an answer. Now I'm not going to pressure you into accepting my ministrations but I'd like you to consider having the procedure. There are few drawbacks to it and they are all mitigated by having a second to monitor the procedure. Counselor Hammons has already been my assistant for one of my patients and would fill the role admirably. Those possible drawbacks need to be noted however, sleeplessness, irritability or flashbacks brought to the surface by going through your memories. Think about it and if you decide to go that direction you have but to let me know." Jaton thought for a minute. “I don’t want to lose the memories of my death and resurrection, but if there’s a way to remove the pain and trauma associated with them, I’d like to try it,” he said contemplatively. To be continued. (Posted by Charles G (Riven) Spencer O'Dowd (Jaton Alyl) Melinda G (Michaella)
