His eyes focused on the floor and he saw his jumpsuit and Captain Kelley's suit. He could feel her holding him and it felt nice. It had been too long since he had seen Anna and the kids. ~Christ, Anna.. I feel so bad.~ Captain Amanda Kelley sat up,waled to the replicator and replicated a raktijino for each of them. Then she said back down. She let her hand trace the muscles of his back. “Chris here coffee, I know you are a grumpy guy without it.” He nodded, “Amanda, The galaxy is a mess.” Amanda crossed her arms and looked at him, “This isn't you,La Chance and Schummer wanting to join fleet again is it? Company is willing to promote you to XO here and give all those working drones a raise? Fleet is drafting any reliable space hand and the TMC needs... No Chris I want you to stay, I need you to stay. If this is about Anna?” Chris shook his head, “I have Team Lead experience and a degree in Geology, Nobody is better at rebuilding things like I am..I mean look what we did with this old Antares Class...” She would press a finger to his lips. “Yeah look what we did.” She flopped down on the bed next to him in almost a pout. “TMC is demoting me to Commander and docking my pay.” She admitted. Chris turned his head, “What the hell for?” He sounded shocked. “Kowalski turned our relationship into the Company and they deemed it inappropriate for a Skipper to be bedding her married Chief Engineer.” She said. “Well that is going to affect my rating isn't it?” He only half asked. “Company is recommending to Starfleet you enter in at enlisted and your time as a Company Officer not count.” She said. He took a swig of the coffee. “No chance of you wanting to tag along then?” She laughed, “Trust me I can't do military life Chris, I can barely be a company woman.” “So this is it then?” he asked. “I guess for now? I mean if the Federation means more to you?” She half asked. He felt a lot of guilt, he choose the next few words carefully, “Amanda I have loved the time with you, I love you, I just.. You remember back on Io?” He asked. “You spent all your off duty time chasing down and fixing the stations power problems. Starfleet offered to make you an officer then.” She said. “I am not interested in pay or ratings, I want to go where I can do good, where the work is needed. La Chance and Schummer they will follow me anywhere cause I always buy the first round. I will try to tell them to stay with you if it helps?” He half smiled and began to get dressed. “No they submitted their resignations when you did. Company verified them, all but you are getting bonus pay.” She leaned over and kissed his cheek. “We could have been like fire and gasoline.” She said. He finished his coffee, looked at what else the mail had sent him. Divorce papers. He was loosing everything. He tucked that little printout inside of his jumpsuit. He gave Amanda one last look before leaving the room. He had a lot to atone for. (Enlisted Mess Hall, Starfleet Mars base 0500 Hours) The enlisted single filed at the breakfast service. Unlike the Officers they didn't get the luxury of replicated food. It was all emergency rations until the enviormental systems were fully restored. Chris sighed he had heard there were engineers monkeying around with the systems now. So maybe all he had to do was qpj's and jurry rigging. He sat tehre staring at the breakfast. His heart wasn't in it. To make matters worse he had a three a.m call from Anna about her shower giving her nothing but cold water; half the base was running on cold water because of the tanks in Water reclaimation being set to filter, but the new boiler was still being fabricated. He was sitting there going over morning work orders, when La Chance and Schummer walked over. They gave nods looking as weary as he was. La Chance was the first one to speak, "They are trying to get the computer core online, like somehow the secondary one we got up and running ain't good enough." Schummer looked upset as well, "Somebody also used the Delilah's transports for an unauthorized transport off base, I have filed the appropriate reports to Security." "Gentlemen, thank you for those reports. As for the core, Remmy they want things to look professional so don't take it personally. We got a lot of the basic systems online, We won't be recognized. But thankyou both for your hard work." He took a swig of his coffee. "Today I want our objective to be getting the main boiler back online, So Schummer grab repair team 1103 and start up fabrication of the sub systems for the boiler, La Chance I want you to work on assembling it when it comes down the line. I am going to head to the science labs and see how the scrubber system cleaning took. I expect that boiler to be finished by 1000 hours." Chris felt drained and his shoulders still ached from all the work they had done, there was still so much to do. Both gentlemen nodded and he finished his breakfast. (Water Reclamation/Water Recylcing, Mars base 06:30 hours) Chris had gotten distracted by repair jobs for nearly an hour. He had actually had to use an old ODN cord to link computers together to communicate. Still no Engineering Officer, Acting Chief Engineer or so much as a person above him had given him any direction of duty or detail. He stood in the empty tank, took a moment to stare at where the boiler was going to be when he saw Schummer there doing some welding and assembly work along with La Chance. Chris smiled. "Alright well the computer says the pipe lines are unobstructed so its a matter of kicking on the water replicator system and letting it pass through the boiler. Then we can all get hot showers." Chris said to the group. It only took a few moments for the boiler to be installed. "Okay gentlemen lets step out of the tank and turn on the water." Soon clear water filled the tanks and ran smoothly into the boiler. Causing hot water and cold water to seperate and the reclaimation system to kick on. =^= Castile to base Operations, you now have fresh water and the sewer bill has been paid. =^= (Response Any) (Posted by Robert H) (NX-1672- Bridge- CONN, ENS JG Trip Williams and MO Ens Ailynn Bracken- 06:00) Trip was unsure if there was an afterlife. Many different planets, cultures, and belief systems had one, including many of the old Earth religions, and he himself wanted desperately to believe that there was. But whether or not there was one, he was sure of one thing, if there was, there would be daily parades for whoever it was that discovered the positive effects of caffeine. He hadn't really slept, he had a lot on his mind, and was on probably his second energy drink, which probably meant that the was going to be chewed out by the medical staff. Still as his duty schedule seemed to be a bit more fluid at the moment, he was going to find ample nap time during the day. For right now he didn't want to be alone and he had already taken enough of his sister's time. So he somehow managed, thanks to a 5:00 message, to get his childhood friend to join him for an excursion onto what should have been his father's legacy. He had been there for about an hour just sitting on the bridge thinking about life. Of course he also wanted Lynn there because he didn't want to be alone. Right now being alone meant thinking about Rae, and he did not want to do that. It only made him hurt. He stood next to the OPS station. He was wearing civilian clothing, black pants, black boots, a black t-shirt and a gray bomber jacket that had a giant Spade on the back surrounded by the words Ace of Spades. "Morning sunshine," he said as Ailynn beamed onto the bridge, "Welcome to the graveyard that is what the federation could be." Trip was perkier than his mind or body had any right to be. One of the benefits of caffeine. Ailynn wouldn’t have given him the satisfaction of it, but she’d been long awake, and needed a distraction from the renovations to the hospital that her and the other Ensigns were devoting nearly all their energies to. She’d known him their entire lives, so she wasn’t sure why she suddenly needed to look the part. He was still the kid next door, the fence still had the hole in it. Generally, she wasn’t a clothes horse. She had a few things that she wore for comfort, to protect her modesty, but beyond that, Ailynn had never seen the point. A fact that her Med School colleagues had been grossly offended by, as in their words she ‘looked good in old drapes’, not that she understood that either. ~people were weird. Facts aren’t weird. I like facts~ So at 0550, she was surprised to be still stood, practically nude, in front of her wardrobe. Eventually, she picked a sleeveless t-shirt, for a band that she remembered seeing how long ago; this topped with a mid-thigh length skirt. Admittedly on her mid-thigh was generous given her legs, but this was mitigated by thigh length boots, that she’d eventually settled on, a copy of a vintage 1980s fitted waist biker jacket, and somewhat ridiculously, given the much lower levels of daylight here on Mars, a vintage pair of 80’s sheek sunglasses. Ailynn looked around her, History yelled at her from all around. It was like her Standard Ed History teacher was suddenly 12 years old. Lifting the glasses to her head, framing her luxuriant dark brown hair, she felt her heart skip, her eyes liven. “Trip, this is amazing. How did you?” "My dad, this was his project, his legacy, you know before they shut her down." Trip said as he moved over to the captain's seat and sat down. Beside him were the first officer's chair to the right and the diplomat/counselor/second officer/whomever chair to the left. "This was what was supposed to be his legacy, but it only got 75% completed before they shut the project down. Never got a commissioning, never got a test flight. Just sitting here. I made my way up last night, checked the registry and found her." “Trip, she’s beautiful.” Ailynn slowly walked around the surprisingly large bridge, the Command Chairs centre of all. She knew that she could sit in one of those, maybe even the FO position right here, and nothing would be said, but not like this. She’d only sit in that when she’d earned it. "Honestly, I feel at home here. I never felt more connected to my dad, then right here, right now." He said gripping the arm rests of the command chair. She continued to walk the positions, “I can see why. What happened?” She asked, secure in the moment and their friendship. "I was maybe 9 or 10 when they took this beauty from him. I spent all my teenage years and the academy, just pissed off, how was I going to live up to his legacy, be my own man when everyone expected me to be him. But, I didn't see what was right in front of my face." Ailynn laughed, ironically, “You and me both babes.” She recalled all those times she’d fought Aimee, rebelling at the constraints at Fleet life. She wanted mommy back, not understanding then what she only did right now, this second properly. "That while I was trying not to be him, he was living with the fact that his dream, his legacy was sitting here, collecting dust. Which is why he always told me that his legacy wasn't his career or his accomplishments, it was his kids. I was too busy trying not to be him, never realized, how much of his greatness was just sitting here, and he never got a chance to finish it." Ailynn finished her mini tour around the Bridge, running her hand over the back of the chair, and onto Trip’s shoulder, where she let it rest. There had never been any trace of romance between them, ~that would be weird~ but they shared feelings so closely that she understood how those in similar positions mistook it for sexual attraction. “That’s why it’s us here…isn’t it.” "Yeah, a second chance." “Dammit Trip, I know you’ve grown up as I have, seeing the same looks on your Family’s faces as I’ve seen on Mum’s, Dale’s and Gran’s. You knew, even as I did, that things were going wrong, you knew. We fought back. Ashamed of our legacies. Hiding…our names…” She motioned around herself. “75 percent done? You know that 25 percent is mostly our realization that we can’t be those kids anymore? It’s our realization that we have to stop avoiding, and embrace who we actually damn well are?” Trip smiled as he got up and walked over to the center of the bridge looking out at the silent, dark view screen. "Lynn," he said as he smiled and turned to his friend, "Other than my sister, you're the oldest friend I got, and without Rae, may she rest in peace, you are the best friend I have." Smiling gently as she took in the surroundings, she carried on listening. "And you're right, we have to embrace who we are, grow up and be the people we are supposed to be. But the incident, man, the Starfleet that we have been commissioned into, it is a loss of innocence for us. We'll never be able to go through life anymore believing in the perfection of what the Federation used to stand for. Because it doesn't exist." She was only partly gratified, there was an edge to his voice. “It can, it can again. It takes work…and new ideas, us.” "The Federation is broken, but you are right, a bunch of us fresh faced babies running around here... I believe the bull the admiral is selling. What we do here matters, and we can't pretend anymore everything is fine." Ailynn shrugged, agreeing, but there was something about him. “But…” "But I can't keep lying to myself anymore." Trip returned to the command chair and sat down. "I'm broken, I tried to keep a brave face for a year, but I am broken. When Rae died, when she died, I felt everything she was feeling. I was in telepathic contact with her when she died, and I felt every single damn emotion, the pain, the fear, the rage, all of it, as if it was my own. I felt my best friend, the person who I spent three years pretending wasn't my soul mate, pining for someone else. Years I'll never get back. And now I have to move on. I have to fix myself." Ailynn sighed. There were few, none even that she could admit to what she was about to say to him. “Least you have it in you to love. I don’t believe for a second that ‘only one for you’ nonsense, that’s not how relationships work.” She sighed bitterly, “At least you have it in you to love, or be loved damn it – what the hell did I do? why can’t some guy or girl love me for who I am.. quit wallowing, at least you’ve felt that level of emotion. She slipped off the counsellors chair, unaware that she had even sat on it, slipping onto the floor. “Why am I so lonely. The hell did I do to be left alone?” Tears ran down her face. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that…” Her temper had snapped, and it had opened her deepest insecurities. Trip got up and walked over to Ailynn and wrapped her into a warm embrace. He then gave her a brotherly kiss on the top of her head. "Oh Lynnie the pooh stop, just stop. You are loved and you are capable of being loved. I know this because I love you. Trip then backtracked when he realized that it might have been taken the wrong way, "You know, in a non romantic kind of way. You are family to me Lynn, and everything about you is lovely and wonderful to me. Which is why I nicknamed you after my favorite character from 20th century pop culture. You know, the yellow bear." She smiled “I remember.” She laughed, finding herself melting into his arms. “I hated that bear. Love you though you oaf.” "You are loved, and I'm sure someone out there will find you, and see everything in you that I see in you. I mean hell you were my first crush, until you shot it down. So there is at least one person in your life who found you worthy of love and beauty." Despite herself – despite the moment, she laughed. “You were such a pain that year. I couldn’t go out in the garden.” "And I know you are capable of love and caring about someone who isn't you, because you sat with me, for 12 hours after Rae died, just there, with me, keeping me company, so I wouldn't be alone. And I will never stop thanking you for that." Ailynn couldn’t say anything, she leant back in his arms, feeling their strength encompass her. A moment, that for others could be misconstrued, and go badly wrong. Trip squeezed her real hard one last time and gave her another kiss on the top of her head before letting her go. "And it was hard for you growing up, I'm sure, because you never knew your dad, and whenever you came over, you were exposed to the cheeziness that is my dad and mom. I know, because I could feel it, empath, duh." She felt a sense of jealously and shame fall on her. “I was so jealous of you. I kinda hated you and Sy, you had what I wanted so much, and what no one can give me, my Dad’s hugs.” "Lynn, we're both broken, but the best part about being broken, is we're broken together." “We could have had this talk anywhere…what’s on your mind? I’m such a selfish cow.” She released the hug, and wished for a coffee, but turned to him again, “know you too well.” "Brokeness, incompleteness, not being finished. That's what is on my mind." He said with a laugh. He walked up the ramp, behind the command chairs and towards the tactical console. "I want desperately to be whole again. But I don't think I'm ever gonna get that. Not the way I want it to be, not the way it was when I had Rae in my life." Ailynn knew she had to tread carefully, “Trip, as much as we love, and I miss Rae too, not as much as you obviously, but I liked her, but you can’t dwell, go on – where’s this going?” "I had an epiphany last night, or was it early this morning. I can't remember, it is all a blur. Anyways, so here I was, in my quarters, after discovering this beauty, waiting for a pretty attractive security officer to come by my room for a casual fling. You know, little something, something. And that isn't really my thing. Only girl I've ever been with was Rae, even Celia and I never got that intimate. But I thought, who knows maybe a little romp will help me put together the pieces again." She sensed it before he said it. “Buuuut….?” "Anyways, I should have spent my evening with you instead." Trip paused, "Not in the way I just described, just hanging out. But I wouldn't have figured out my epiphany. See, what I thought was gonna be a casual thing, you know because I'm pretty damn hot, she wanted to be like a relationship, but open, and not truly committed. You know, no labels, but emotionally involved etc. And it's like, I've been there. You know. So I kind of sent her home, and nothing happened. Which, is fine, because I'm not the type to sleep around you know. I'm kind of a prude like that." “Trip.” She spoke, picking her words carefully, “As much as we pretend to be something other, we’re animals. And those…deepset primal urges are what make us alive. I’ll not lie, sometimes, when the right person gives me the right kind of hug… ” She tilted her head and raised an eyebrow. “They are denying what makes us beasts of emotion; anger, hatred, friendship, love…passion.” She raised an eyebrow once more, “Especially passion” Trip shrugged off her comment. He was normally pretty extroverted and not what would be called shy, but sometimes when it came to physical intimacy he had a tendency to chicken out. "Anyways," Trip added changing the subject back to his original point, "it got me thinking, you know, because I couldn't sleep. Why did I want that, why did I act out of character, did I really just need it, or was I filling a hole. And you know what, yeah, I am. I need something Lynn, I need something to make me feel complete again, and I wasn't sure who or what that is. I haven't been whole since I lost Rae, I miss her support, her voice, her presence in my head." He said as he pointed to his temple. "So how can I fix my brokenness, if I don't even know how to plug that hole. And I realized the answer was right under my nose, and had been with me the whole time." Trip walked back over to Lynn and put his arm around her shoulders to were the two were parallel. "I need to finish what my father started, I need to complete this project, complete the Exeter prototype. I need to bring my father's vision to completion. That is what will make me whole. Something not about me, something greater than me, something I can pour my life into. Where I can give time, energy, and life too, but am not trying to fill the emotional void of who isn't here. It's a project, a labor of love, and it is my way of slowly fixing myself, bringing hope to a broken world. That the past and what has been left undone, what has been left behind can be whole again." She stood, comforted in the embrace, listening as he continued. "Dum Spiro, Spero. It's my new motto, and a new tattoo idea. You should totally get one with my by the way. Dum Spiro, Spero, while I breathe I hope." Ailynn smiled, “I like it – always wanted a tattoo actually. I’d kind of like a hypocritic snake all around my left arm? But stylised to reflect Bajoran mythology? "Lynn," he said as he turned to her, "I want you in on this with me, I mean obviously Sy will be involved for sure, but you are my oldest, dearest, and closest friend, and I want you with me on this every step of the way. The value you bring to the 75% completeness that is my life is more than gold pressed latinum. So what do you say?" She shrugged, “I’m sure I can fit you in. “I mean, we’re rebuilding an entire base, reforging connections with local hospitals and the nearby town, I have an hour or two here and there.” She nudged him with her shoulder. “I’m in, idiot, you don’t have to ask.” "Good, because I know absolutely nothing about what it takes to get a shipboard medical facilities up and running." (reply none) (posted by Will Banowsky and Mark Howard) (Mars base- Launch Platform 2 -Science Officer- Ensign Sienna Williams-Verin -0651) Sienna had been up way too late, talking to her brother, holding him, commiserating and chatting. She loved him deeply, and without him, she would be lost. She was going to find the woman who was responsible for this mess with her twin and deal with it. After hours of course. Sienna hurried aboard, aware that they were on a tight window to launch. She had her eva suit with her, and her own bag of personal tools. There was much she was curious about. She looked around the shuttle at the security that were accompanying them. While Sekal was piloting, Sienna frowned lightly, "I can't wait till we have the transporters up and running. I'm assuming you are security, although I'm not entirely sure WHY we have to have security with us? Can you guys fill me in?" Sienna looked more Betazoid than her twin, but she and Trip did have many similarities, "I'm Sienna Williams-Verin, life sciences and botany. I'm Trip Williams' twin, if you have met him, he tends to be the more personable of the two of us." (reply security if you want) Sienna turned towards the window, marveling at the size of the starbase and shipyards that was utopia planetia, "There is so much history here. I hope..." Her voice trailed off as Sekal turned the shuttle slightly, and the Republic came into view, "Ensign Sekal could you please go around the shipyards slowly so we can get a more detailed look at the exterior of the ships? Concentrate on the Hades, the Republic and the Mystique please." She spoke softly, not ordering. She was being illogical, but she wanted to see the history before they began to scrap the various ships for parts. (reply Sekal) Sienna's face was glued to the window, watching avidly. Her body language proclaimed excitement. And for this moment, the mess with her twin was forgotten. She had things to do, and if her Mother was right, and Sophie usually was, there was going to be a very interesting surprise aboard that beauty, the Mystique. (reply flagg, peters, sekal) (posted by Mel) (Mars base- Launch Platform 2 -Science Officer- Sec, Ens JP Rebecca Flagg -0652) While Sekal was piloting, Sienna frowned lightly, "I can't wait till we have the transporters up and running. Rebecca knew that the idea of having security was to ensure safety but she did not want sounds so dry. She flashed a big smile “Well we hear to prove some entertainment. I am Rebecca Flagg, Security but I am ex-marine, combat engineer and EOD specialist. So I should be some help.” (Reply any iyw) After talking Rebecca was a little furtive but was concentrating on rechecking her gear and focus her mind. She was not expecting anything in the way of problems but she was always ready for it. "The Mystique is coming into your view and I am sensing something... coming from it." Rebecca was a believer in gut feeling and was always concerned when someone else voiced theirs, unusually for her Rebecca’s voice in was serious. “What do you feel?” "An entity." He paused for an instant. " A very ancient, powerful and ... troubled one." And he then remembered a story his father had told him. "I recommend extreme caution." Rebecca smiles and was her loud self, wanting to make sure that everyone kept upbeat but with the not forget the danger that they could be facing. Flashing a big wink. She had not looked any one personal files but she had a feeling that she had seen more combat that anyone else in the runabout. “Looks like I will be earning my dinner tonight. When we go in follow my lead, it probably nothing but I will be happier to know you’re all on my six.” (Reply: Any) She started to work off her version of the marine hand book to get everyone ready for the what might be coming. She would rather look a bit silly than put anyone in danger. Rebecca had to feeling that it would be more likely they would be fighting a ghost, she just hoped it would not be her own. She had not seen real combat since she had lost her arm and she was not sure how that would affect her when things kicked off. “Remember you training and we are going to do this by the numbers. Watch your corners and we will get through this.” (Reply: Any) (Posted by Giles PJ) (Runabout 2 - Pilot Cabin- Science Officer- Ensign Sekal -0658) The runabout was approaching Utopia Planitia at a satisfactory velocity and he was making an adjustment to starboard to clear the Republic. He had been hearing conversation from aft when suddenly Ensign Verin called up to the cockpit. "Ensign Sekal could you please go around the shipyards slowly so we can get a more detailed look at the exterior of the ships? Concentrate on the Hades, the Republic and the Mystique please." The request was reasonable and easily accommodated and time was not pressing as of yet so he corrected back to port and the runabout made a graceful sweep around the titanic vessel with it coming around to the starboard side windows. From the pilot's seat it appeared it had suffered micro-meteorite damage low on the main hull, after it was returned to functional status a full integrity check would have to be made. From what the Vulcan could see some hull plating might be in need of replacement. (Reply: Flagg, Peters, Verin iyw) The most notable aspect however was what was missing being the ships name and registry number as though the Federation, ashamed of its existence had attempted to wipe it from memory. The Vulcan shook his head at the inconceivable sight of one of StarFleet's crowning achievements having been so abused. It took a moment to pass the massive ship and two fragments of ships beyond it which had been completely stripped. The sight of the next that lay beyond them he found interesting, a Miranda Class vessel that was mostly intact and seemingly missing only its deflector dish. As they cleared the saucer section however a feeling gripped him that he couldn't shake and he wondered if it was only noticeable to telepaths or whether all those in the passenger compartment felt it as well. If they could reach engineering, they would be able to raise the power levels to a more operational status. When the airlock cycled, Sienna stepped aboard the ship. And was absolutely bombarded with noise/sound/words/images and emotions. She fell to her knees, tears streaming down her face. Sekal would have an inkling and if the security officers had any psi senses they would also react to the bombardment. "Please stop." Sienna whispered, hands covering her ears in a futile attempt to block out the telepathic noise. A few long moments that had Sienna moaning in pain before it just...cut off. She began to think that under the right light, the used hypo spray vials would make lovely ordainment on a Christmas Tree. Quinna moved to a seated position on the floor and continued to go through boxes. She thought about her parents. She wondered if they would approve. They themselves met their tragic end. When she was old enough to ask questions, no answers would follow. She could not think about that now. She wiped a tear away and started though another box of sorting when her mind drifted again. Remae knew enough about Vulcans to not offer a seat. The Vulcan was going to stand there, hands behind back regardless of what he said. The Admiral simply nodded while he listened to the request of the Ensign. Sanok placed a PADD on Remae's desk. Remae blinked for a moment. The PADD contained several names, Remae was going to pick up the PADD but didn't. "... we must ensure you are safe.", said the Ensign... Remae almost burst out laughing but, he held it together, though a smirk vanished across his face when he realised the pragmatism of the suggestion and the fact the Ensign was right. He hadn't even considered the fact that he could be a target. "Thanks Ensign, I appreciate your bringing this to me and the concern for my welfare.", he said while looking at the PADD for the first time. He consisted what to say next, he could excuse the Ensign, toss the PADD in the recycler or make up some nonsense about there was a no-need for such measures. "Have a seat, Ensign.", he said and he made it clear it was an order. He thought some more... "Ensign, you are right. I would be very foolish indeed to ignore your sage advice however, I am going to. I cannot do my job if I am escorted around by security and it also sends a dangerous message to the rest of the team on Mars.", he said considering his next thoughts. "We're better off securing Mars, I still want us to setup proper screening of all incoming and outgoing personnel. Anyone heading off Mars needs to have permission to do so and no-one can leave the area of Mars unless there is an emergency. Can I ask you to work on that aspect?", he said before relenting a little. "You can also post security around vital areas of the base, Mars, and other facilities, even outside my quarters, if you wish but you'll need to liaise with the other security officers too.", he said ending his conversation with the Ensign. "Anything further, Ensign?", asked the Admiral before he dismissed him back to his duties. (Reply from Sanok, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (Mars Base, Admiral Remae's Office, Sec/Tac Ensign jg Sanok, 1018) Sanok studied Remae's face. It had been many years since he had interacted with Humans, but it was easy to discern that the admiral wasn't happy about the idea of a security escort. "Have a seat, Ensign." The tone in Remae's voice and his body language, made it clear that this was an order and not a gesture of good manners. Sanok sat. Remae stated that he couldn't do his job if he was continually escorted by a security team. He also said it would send a dangerous message to the rest of the Mars personnel. Sanok disagreed, but remained silent, a passive expression on his face. Heads of state routinely had a security presence and were still able to do their jobs. Sanok also felt that security around the admiral, would cause everyone to fully grasp the importance of their mission on Mars. This assignment was very serious and each person there needed to know that. Remae said, "Anyone heading off Mars needs to have permission to do so and no one can leave the area of Mars unless there is an emergency. Can I ask you to work on that aspect?" "The security department has already begun implementing this," said Sanok. "Anyone leaving the premises is required to inform security. They must also have a security escort with them until they return." Sanok wondered if Remae saw the irony in that. "You can also post security around vital areas of the base," said Remae. " Mars, and other facilities, even outside my quarters, if you wish, but you'll need to liaise with the other security officers too." "We have also begun this as well," said Sanok. "Anything further, Ensign?" "No, sir. Thank you again for hearing what I had to say." After Sanok was dismissed, he thought about Remae's decision about an escort. The magnetic boots were holding firmly to the deck in the absence of gravity and the lights from the helmet were providing sufficient illumination in order to see his surroundings clearly. Currently they were in the saucer section. The three sections of the ship had been named after rivers that were said to flow in the mythological Greek realm of Hades. The saucer section had been given the name of Acheron: The bringer of woe, the upper engineering section Phlegathon: The bringer of fire and the lower engineering section Lethe: The bringer of forgetfulness. These designations were used during Tri-Vector mode and had simplified communications and avoided confusion during battle. Saleke had confided to his son that these designations had been agreed upon by the senior officers and he believed that the Lethe was favored by the engineers due to the common designation of those who worked in lower engineering on StarFleet vessels as "The forgotten ones" and was therefore humorous in nature. Their purpose here though did not lie in the engineering sections but two decks below among the science labs. The possibility of the Vulcan race as having the emotion of pride was denied emphatically by his people but the fact remained that Vulcans did take pride if it could be called that in their scientific endeavors. The reason for this was simple, science in its perfect form was seen as the purest expression of logic. Through science the universe itself could be weighed, measured and quantified. Cause and effect could be studied and the result of every action otherwise known as effect could be an anticipated and every step along the way verified as it moved toward its intended purpose. This is why even during the height of StarFleet activity Vulcan had maintained a small fleet of independent science vessels. Vulcan also had continued to develop, utilize and maintain its own scientific equipment outside the scope of that based upon Andorian technologies. Scientific equipment from Vulcan had its own 'foibles' in the eyes of others such as its interface and diagnostic programs so other races opted to go with that optimized and based upon Andorian schematics.Captain Saleke his father however was Vulcan and had one lab set aside for his own use. It was logically enough the geology lab. It was no coincidence then that his father's major interest had been vulcanology (the study volcanoes and subsurface liquefied magma and geology. Saleke had therefore had that lab stocked with equipment from his home world. Such equipment would undoubtedly have survived the 'Andorian Technological Purge' but would it have withstood the test of time? Some may have failed or been damaged and then replaced or perhaps would have been moved out in favor of newer pieces. The only way to know for sure was to investigate. And if any were still there they would be invaluable in his own research. He led the way toward the turbolift tube. The turbolift itself was obviously inoperable but in a weightless environment it would be a simple matter to propel themselves down its sides. Once they made it to the empty tube however he looked first down and then up, pausing for a period as he wrestled with something within his own mind. Finally he moved, not down but up, grabbing handholds and pulling himself quickly toward the bridge. Everything was normal until the point he touched the button to play the message. She did not exactly trust anyone on this base except her twin and their childhood friend, the medical officer Aileen. However, she also knew that her twin had taken Aileen to their father's ship without her. After being with one girl last night, now he was off trying to make out with one of their best friends. She would have face palmed, but she was too confused by what they had faced on the Mystique that morning and whatever was going on now here on the Hades to deal with the extreme hurt her twin was putting her through currently. It would bubble out at some point, and if Trip had cared about her feelings, he would have reached out. It was not exactly like Sienna was capable of hiding anything from him. Security was pulling Sekal back up to his feet. "My apologies, I appeared to be elsewhere and in another time. I am quite myself now." Sienna doubted that was true, but she had a great deal of EMT training, so she switched the sensors on her tricorder and ran it over Sekal, recording this data alongside the data that it had taken during his 'fit'. While Sekal was dealing with his toolkit and pulling the crystal in it out, she was comparing the humanoid's data. "It is currently radiating a harmless energy form. The more we learn of the crystal the more mysteries we encounter and the deeper the enigma becomes." "Ensign Sekal," Sienna spoke, being more formal than she would normally be, but he was a Vulcan and they could be kinda prissy at times, and she needed him to listen, "The security officers here know nothing about the crystal. You did not want it to be general knowledge, remember?" She spoke, calmly, rationally when what she wanted to do was yell at him. Sienna turned towards the security officers, "The crystal was a gift from the Ensign's father, who apparently commanded this ship and had the crystal here once. As a result, it appears that the crystal caused a phase displacement in time, where Sekal was in another time as well as this one." Sienna turned the tricorder so that Sekal could see the data, "You were in both times it seems. It would be very interesting if you could contact your Father and inquire about the incident you just experienced, see if he felt anything, ah unusual at the time. I know that Vulcans are telepathic with each other, but it requires touch, even among family members?" She made it a question, looking at Sekal for the answer. If I can get them all too fly, I should be able to control them through my data port. Which can give us another flight for patrol or ship deployment.” Ire added to the conversation as trip nodded approvingly. "Those will be a good addition to the team." He said with a smile. “Do you both have an idea about rotations for mars defence? I was thinking of at least having one squadron probably more in orbit at it should reduce reaction time.” Before Trip could respond to Ire's question Ravok spoke. " The peregrine attack fighters are highly maneuverable and take off is no problem, I however do recommend we do combat simulations . We should program the unmanned crafts and run as many drills as possible. " "You both bring up good points, but we are getting ahead of ourselves. We need to go through the boring part first. And that is handle all the admin stuff." (Reply Ire, Ravok) "First off, including the new arrivals with Ravok we are up to forty Pilots. That is including ourselves. I was thinking about this this morning. We have forty pilots, forty-four on ship support personnel, and about 160 support personnel for maintenance and the like. In the interest of making things easier lets use old Naval terminology to distinguish between the two. Pilots will be referred to as aviators and the on fighter support personnel we'll call flight officers as they use to do in the old 21st century navies, and for our support personnel, we'll call them support personnel." (Reply Ire, Ravok) "Anyways, I've been looking over the numbers. We have 36 fighters, so that means nine fighters per squadron, into three groupings of three fighters per squadron. That accounts for thirty-six aviators and thirty-six flight officers. So what about the other four aviators and other eight flight officers? Well I have located in one of the hangars four Type-11 Shuttles that aren't being used at the moment for other things. They need a little TLC, but we could easily outfit them into an electronic surveillance and warfare mission. Essentially Airborne Warning and Control Sytems craft, or AWACS for short. They wouldn't be completely combat worthy but could provide valuable assistance in patrols. So each squadron would get one, they would be manned by an aviator, two flight officers, and a support personnel for a crew of 4. Essentially as each squadron is on patrol, one of these birds would be up coordinating patrol efforts." (reply Ire, Ravok) "We then divide the squadrons with 10 Aviators, 11, Flight officers, and 40 support personnel to keep things smooth and then I think we run on four shifts. Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma. 24 hours in the day, six hour shifts of air time, cycling though M01, M02, M03, and R01. When you're not up in the air, your squadron is on Standbay, leading to a total of two 6 hour shifts, which may seem a lot, but the Standby or on call shift, should have built in at least a few hours of in hangar down time. So that is what I worked on this morning. What do y'all think?" It means stealing all the ready response craft, but it will give you at least six hours to get you Red Dragons up to speed and twelve hours for you Ravok.” (Reply Ravok, Tripp) “We were told to get the perimeter defence up as soon as and I it will be an interesting was to see how my aviators, flight officers and ground staff interact with each other.” (Reply Ravok, Tripp) (Reply Ravok, Tripp, any) (Posted by Robbie) (Starfleet Martian Ground Facilities - Williams-Verin Family Quarters – pilot - Ensign (JG) – Ravok - 11:15) Ravok looked at Ire. (Martian Ground Facilities – Main Computer Core – Engineer – Ensign JG Keira Merek – 1153) “All teams, status report.” She ordered. “Alpha complete.” Came a response. “Gamma complete.” Came a second. Silence. “ Delta?” she asked, her tone was even. “Stand by. Coding the last few chips.” The third Petty Officer team leader spoke up. Keira had expected Delta team to finish last, as their job was slower and couldn’t start until Alpha had finished a section. All things being equal the teams all did phenomenal work and accomplished great things in a short while. The circular room they had spent the last few hours in was dug into the bedrock of Mars with shielding on all sides. The entrance was north of the computer banks that dominated the room. The central core which went from floor to nearly the ceiling was the newest section tied the rest together quite literally with ODN cables, while each bank was capable of independent action and had it’s own processing capabilities the central core was the boss. Gone were the haphazardly strewn tangle of cables, replaced now with pathways parallel with each other going out to the six different banks of older model processors, like spokes on an ancient wheel on both ceiling and floor. Ceiling mounts were held in with a series of “C” clamps gripping cables and holding them in place to prevent shearing. The floor mounted ones were covered with parsteel grating elevated six centimeters to avoid workers stepping on any cables and interrupting data flow. A small nook in the south wall housed a sitting bench and stand up terminal with touch screen interface behind a clear viewing pane that doubled as a protective screen if the core were to explode. With the scorch marks and scratches on it, it’s possible that has happened before. “Delta all set.” Came the third response as the last remaining isolinear chips were installed with a click. “Program installed.” She announced to no one, speaking of the program she had spent the past three hours writing and proofing. She took a deep breath and exhaled before pressing the “Run” command. The read out before her sprang to life performing a self diagnostic. She thought about each section as the read out came in. [Core: GOOD] ~Fastest processor we have, ground side. I might be able to find a faster one, but the Admiral wanted the Republic to be the priority.~ [Alpha Bank: GOOD.] ~The largest and oldest. General storage and archive, FOUO and Non-classified data.~ Beta Bank: GOOD] ~ Robust. Perfect for engineering and maintenance functions. It can handle being tertiary, but not for long. ~ [Delta Bank: GOOD] ~Excels at dynamic processing functions. This could handle all the tactical and security functions.~ [Gamma Bank: GOOD] ~Good for R&D, with enough room for science and engineering functions.~ [Mu Bank: GOOD] ~For medical. It can run medical simulations, store medical archives, protected health information and patient medical records.~ [Psi Bank: GOOD] ~ The only one that fits bio-neural gel packs. Not the fastest and it’s storage is a little small, but it’s the most secure encryption-wise. Perfect for our intel officers, and any top secret storage the Admiral wants to hand down.~ The units all sprung to life and began to light up as the core switched on. A light shined from the core interior that emanated through each chip casting their own unique hue of green, gold or blue. The ODN conduits began lighting up too, pulses moving too quickly to track with the naked eye. Each pulse a “packet” of data. The gathered group displayed a mixed series of personal elations and miniature celebrations at a task completed. Keira smiling rapped on the clear barrier intended to get everyone’s attention. She waited a moment for everything to quiet down. “You all should be commended for a job well done. Back in his office, he began reading early reports of the day. Sanok's thoughts returned to his meeting with Remae. He disagreed with the decision to not have an escort for him, but there were still things he could do. Checking the inventory list for the security department, he had an idea. Going to the main storage area, Sanok rummaged through the shelves and boxes. More than once, he sneezed from the dust. One time, he had to shoo away a large, hairy arachnid. Sanok hated arachnids. Finding what he wanted, he cleaned the dust off the box and returned to his office. On his computer, he looked at the people in charge of repair crews, he saw someone that could help him. "Repair team 1308 has been working around the clock to get things done, if I had known my boys and I would have lent a hand with this. It just says Officer authorization required. You are the first engineering officer I have been made aware of since being here." He explained the contents of the PADD, it’s nice to have context. She saw the document that he was referring to, and also saw the slew of completed “tickets” indicated by the margin of his PADD screen. She looked up from the PADD and saw the man standing before her. Really looked at him. There was a tiredness in his eyes, a fatigue she had not seen since finals at the Academy. Many of her purely human classmates had stayed up studying multiple nights in a row to cram as much information as they could. “Mister Castile, I always appreciate the experience a Non-Commissioned Officer like yourself can bring to the table.” She started. “ It looks like you and your team were quite busy looking at your completed tickets. I grabbed the three teams I did because they were sitting around the crew’s mess, to use an ancient Terran Naval term, skylarking.” (Reply Castile) “As for the work order….I will happily sign it.” She paused. “However, I have noticed that you seem quite….fatigued. How long have you gone with out sleep?” she inquired. (Reply Castile) “I see. The work is important but so are our crewmembers,” She said. “but I know how important accomplishment is. You and your team pick one of the three tasks you’ve shown me to complete now. Nothing that could be a hazard, so nothing that goes “boom”.” She signed the work orders as she spoke. “After that, get some shut-eye. Report to your bunks, I don’t want to hear or see you or your team until the start of the next eight hour shift.” (Reply Castile) “Your dedication to duty is exemplary, however not sustainable.” She said handing the PADD back. ”If your team is working multiple shifts, then others probably are too. The fix is mandatory work-rest cycles and allowing crewmen to sign up for two shifts in a day, making the third a mandatory down time.” (Reply Castile) “Good work tracking me down.” She complimented him again, “Though work orders don’t necessarily require an Engineering Officer. For instance with these work orders for the Armory, you could have gotten a signature from a Security or Tactical Officer as the regulations don’t specify a department. If they want it done so bad, they can sign the authorization ticket.” (Reply Castile) “Dismissed.” (Reply Castile, any) (Posted by Todd) (Mars Base – Secondary Storage – Medical – Medical/Counselor Officer – Ensign Quinna solace – 13:00) Quinna was brought out of thought when a communication came over about lunch.
