He’d spent the past two days onboard, familiarising himself with the layout of the Akira Class ship, it had been many years since he had been in command of a starship and it had taken time for him to find his space legs. He had taken many a tour around inside a pod as he became more and more focused on the ship and their mission as the week progressed. For his own quarters, some personal belongings had been placed for the trip, some basics that would keep him company for the times when nothing would be happening. NRPG: We have multiple people in multiple departments, who is at what station, I can’t say, it's up to you all to work out with your department heads. Until I know, I will simply call you via your department. Who answers, well, is up to you. BTW, this isn’t your Star Trek 2009 departure! We don’t wack into warp speed just like that… we do it the old fashioned way!! RPG: The Mystique herself was powered up but, from the outside, you couldn’t tell much was different but inside, the ship's systems were functioning and members of the crew were at their station, preparing the ship for its 0700 departure. “All hands, this is your Admiral speaking. We’re now preparing for departure. All departments, report your readiness to OPS.”, he said, looking over the officer sat at the Operations Seat. Next to him sat Luma’s Bondmate and Remae wanted the connection to Luma close by while they departed. He had to know if there were any problems, “How is Luma doing?”, he asked to her bondmate and he simply nodded as he prepared the ship for launch. (Reply from all stations (Luma is a duty station of her own) to OPS) All around the outside of the ship, the moorings were retracting, lights were switching off and the structure of the docking station began to clear the way for the Mystique’s departure. “Operations has cleared our departure… Docking Master has cleared our departure.”, reported someone behind the Admiral and he thanked them. A slight and noticeable move of the ship indicated they were now free. “Helm, thrusters to hold station.”, he ordered and the slight movement of the ship stopped as the ship held its position. There was no movement. The lights came on around the ship, bringing it life from anyone watching from the outside… the deflector dish also came to life, its bright light shining its way ahead. “Thrusters ahead.”, said Remae and the ship began to leave its dock, slowly, carefully and with precision. It took time, it took more than a few moments as the ship began to depart, the viewscreen showed the opening ahead The Mystique cleared its dock and carefully worked its way around Utopia Planitia. The place wasn’t the tidiest and it took careful work by the crew to ease the ship into a high orbit around Mars to clear the station’s facilities. “Open a channel to Mars Operations.”, he said and the viewscreen switched, “Time to go. Keep the place running for us while we are gone!”, he said to the people left behind. (Reply from Anyone in OPS) “Helm, lay in a departure from Mars. Engineering, how are we looking for impulse?”, he asked and when the reply came in, “Bring us up to full impulse, slowly.”, he ordered. The Mystique began to accelerate and someone thoughtfully turned the viewscreen to face aft, Mars began to disappear and it wasn’t long before the ship was travelling at one-quarter of the speed of light. (USS Mystique – Bridge – CO Admiral Remae Ktell – 0730) At full impulse, the Mystique had cleared the inner solar system and it was time to get underway. “Attention all stations, report - ready for warp?”, he said and as each station reported in, in turn, positive reports from all and the last one to communicate, which was Luma, gave the green light. “Lay in a course for Trill. Warp 7.”, he ordered and the ship made some different sounds, the impulse drive was switching over as the warp systems were coming online. “Engage.”, said the Admiral and the ship jumped to warp. (Reply from ALL) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Mystique – Deck 15-Sec/Tac center –Tactical Ensign jg Ravok- 0648) =/\=All hands, this is your Admiral speaking. We’re now preparing for departure. All departments, report your readiness to OPS.=/\= the admiral said over the comm Ravok sent the tactical readiness report to the Ops Officer up on the bridge (USS Mystique – Bridge – aASEC, Ens(jg) Carson Peters - 0649) The trepidation throughout the ship had been slowly building throughout the last 24 hours as the crew had been building towards launching their first ship from the MARS base in years. The fact that most of the senior officers from the base were also then using the ship for a mission to bring the Trill people back into the Federation was somewhat exciting. He began starting up the Security Terminal on the Bridge, it was stationed handily next to the Tactical station so once Taya reported in they'd be within communications distance of each other. He saw the Admiral sat in the Captain's chair on the Bridge, next to him was the the Ensign which was Luma's bondmate- Vex'ahlia. She'd joined the team on Mars little under a week ago and Carson had spent a good few hours with her and Luma as they seemed to be inseparable now, going through Security procedures and plans for their protection. Both Vex and Luma had been assigned a personal security detail, he knew some had sniggered at the idea and thought it was overkill but he didn't mind that. The Admiral asked for a readiness report and within seconds Carson noted that Ravok has sent a Tac report across from the TIC, Carson flagged it, attached the Security readiness and forwarded it to the Ops desk. The Bridge began filling up, he nodded to Taya as she took her place amongst the Bridge officers, "Morning- ready for this?" he asked brightly. (Reply Taya) Once the Admiral got done speaking with Vex, or Luma, or potentially both of them he turned back around and ordered the ship to take itself clear of the dock. (Reply Taya/None) (Posted by Jono Bradley) (USS Mystique – Bridge – Aft Engineering Station - aACEO – Ensign JG Keira Merek – 0650) All the excitement over the past week has lead to this moment. Everyone assuming their ship stations, some of which were different. Keira looked over at the person manning the OPS station, realizing that could have been her. This made the most sense, however her keeping the acting Chief position for now at least. They had lost so many Engineers, now is where they needed everyone where they had been for the past two weeks. The engineering crew was used to her and changing up at the last moment could have drastic repercussions on crew performance. She triple checked the readouts she had checked previously. All systems showed ready. “All hands, this is your Admiral speaking. We’re now preparing for departure. All departments, report your readiness to OPS.”, the Admiral ordered. “Engineering is nominal.” Keira reported when it was her turn. There was some brief succinct communications between the Mystique and Mars Operations. “Helm, lay in a departure from Mars. Engineering, how are we looking for impulse?” The Admiral requested status. “Impulse speed is showing ready status.” Keira reported. “Bring us up to full impulse, slowly.”, the Admiral ordered. ~Either this works, or I’m fired.~ She joked with herself. “Aye.” She brought up impulse power in increments waiting a few seconds between adjustments. Once they had accelerated all the way to full impulse. She announced. “Now at full impulse power.” (USS Mystique – Bridge – aACSO(R) - Ensign Sekal- 0652) The ship had been readied which took a great amount of preparation and Luma agreeable with some amount of trepidation. Sekal noted with interest that removing himself from mental communication with the Lenai was not as simple as predicted. He was currently manning the science station and had manually calibrated the instrumentation. Luma had then fine tuned the settings. The two working in concert had the scanners as well prepared as could ever have been hoped for. “All hands, this is your Admiral speaking. We’re now preparing for departure. All departments, report your readiness to OPS.” There were a number speaking up already and he waited for a convenient opening the turned his head to be better heard. "Short range sensors are active and long range on standby. Passive scans show the cosmic microwave background only. Nothing abnormal has been noted. The bridge science station is ready and standing by." (USS Mystique – Bridge – Ops, Ens(jg) Vex'ahlia - 0653) Vex sat somewhat nervously in the chair next to the Admiral as a lot of the pre-flight checks were being worked through on all the departments. To calm herself she focused on all the work she'd done with both Luma and other Engineers over the past week to help get the ship ready for this moment. She could tell Luma was also nervous, but far more excited than she had anticipated, ::Everything set?:: she asked of Luma, ::Anything you're not happy with?:: (Reply Luma) ::Once the Admiral gives the order to clear the dock, use my as a mouth-piece. If anything isn't going as you expect, speak out but allow the crew on the Bridge to correct any issues if you can.:: (Reply Luma) “All hands, this is your Admiral speaking. We’re now preparing for departure. All departments, report your readiness to OPS.”, The Admiral said, before he turned to Vex and asked her how Luma was doing, "We're ready Admiral, it's been a long time coming, but we're excited to be heading back out into the star-song." Vex said, slipping into using some of Luma's terminology as she did. The Admiral nodded in response and went back to readying the ship. Vex couldn't help put peak around the Bridge as she heard several of the officers calling in readiness of their stations. (USS Mystique – Bridge – Ensign JG Erin Cortes - 0659) After finding her quarters and unpacking her meagre things, Erin had made her way to the bridge. It had been a long time since she had even been on anything larger than a shuttle and she wanted to see it at least once. Finding a spot out of the way, she watched as the bridge crew went about their business readying the ship for departure. ~This crew, despite its newness is already working well~ she thought to herself as she watched the reports coming in from all over the ship. Looking around at everyone, she made mental notes of each person and their skill set. Something she had always done. Thinking back to what the admiral had asked her to do, she knew that she needed time to co-ordinate with the other counsellors but then, the order was given to take the ship to warp and all that thought went out of her mind. ~Holy crap..... that is ....... just wow.~ (Reply Any) (Posted by Jackie) (USS Mystique - Main Engineering - EO Ensign Boone Foster - 0715) Being planet side definitely has its own appeal, but Boone was excited to be on a ship once again. Working on Mars felt much like home, but once he was on a ship, it represented everything that wasn't home. If his friends from Echo Earth could see him now the comments would break the rattle right off the snake. Boone, of all people, in a Starfleet uniform working behind a large black panel that controlled a massive starship. The Mystique, unfamiliar to him, but he gathered from others that this ship did have some history to it, and apparently direct history with some of the crew on the ship now. For roughly 20 minutes now The Mystique had been flying at full impulse, and mostly all was good. Minor adjustments occurred, some routine, some not so routine, but the ship checked out overall. It wasn't long before the Admiral called for warp. Boone along with many other officers checked their consoles, and relayed their reports to the officer in charge. After running his fingers for 3 seconds he spoke up, "Warp ready, sir!" The hum of the warp reactor could clearly be heard now, and the pace of the sounds quickened. The ship shook ever so slightly, but most probably didn't notice, but Boone did. The ship was now in warp, and their mission, he felt, officially began. (reply any in engineering) (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Mystique – Bridge – CONN Ensign JG Trip Williams - 0731 They had cleared the Solar System and Trip was getting excited. He was actually at the helm of a Starship. Not on a holodeck, not a fighter, not a shuttle craft. He was doing what he was trained to do. He was excited, he was emotional. In a different era, in a different Starfleet, this would not have been the first time he left the Solar System. He would have had training cruises, prior experience. He would have gotten the opportunity to pilot a Starship much sooner. Regardless of the era, he was finally getting his shot. He had flipped a coin with Ire and won, giving him the privilege to man the helm on this momentous occasion. Trip was committed to the bullshit that the Admiral was selling. This day, this voyage, this mission could mean a rebirth for the Federation and Starfleet. The moment wasn't lost on him. The privilege wasn't lost on him. He was grinning like a possum. “Lay in a course for Trill. Warp 7.” "Course plotted and laid in sir. Ready to go on your orders." Trip responded plotting the course and readying the controls. “Engage.”, said the Admiral and the ship jumped to warp. Trip got chills throughout his body as he activated the Warp drive and the Mystique began her journey to Trill in earnest. ~Hell yeah!~ (reply Any) (posted by Will) (USS Mystique – Bridge – aACMO Ailynn Bracken – 0732) Ailynn stood by as the Bridge crew made ready, her mind in awe of both the excitement of her first proper mission, and being on board a starship with so much history as this. She watched, impasse, as every cog did it’s job, the bridge was a machine, all of it driven by Remae in the main chair. As they hit warp she felt the purest rush of adrenaline. She’d had the moment described to her by both Aimee, her mother, and Dale, technically her gran, but she didn’t like that word. Both women had been former Commanding Officers of the Hades, and they’d tried to explain how they’d felt the first time. Nothing however, prepared her for the exhilaration, the rush to the senses, her entire being felt like it shifted, perhaps a millimetre, perhaps miles, but shifted it had. She discovered something in her soul that was meant to be, a yearning to travel, an aching desire to not only be the best at what she did, but on top of that, she discovered; as her Great Grandmother, her Grandmother, and her Mother had all known about her all along, she deeply desired to learn what lay on the other side of that proverbial hill. “Prophets.” She knew she had spoken out loud, but hoped it was quieter than she felt it may have been. “So Luma is all around us? I’ll confess that I read the reports, but have a hard time…understanding.” Her brain was three thoughts ahead, and it was for that reason alone, that her filter failed and a stray thought was spoken out loud. “So are we stood in Luma’s brain…or somewhere else?” (Reply any, none needed) (Posted by Mark) (USS Mystique – Flight Bay – Pilot - Ensign (J.G.) Ire Williams – 0733) Ire glanced at the controls of the Runabout siting on the Alert One launch spot on a 30 second stand by to launch. ~Okay everything is green across the board~ He knew that the ship was not at Red Alert which meant that he was not needed to be there, but it felt like he was supporting in his own little way. ~At least I am not breathing down Trips neck as I would if I was on the bridge~ It was not that he did not have faith in the Mystique or the crew, but this was her first warp flight in a long time and as he was not flying her this was the next best thing. He and Trip had flipped a coin which Trip had won fair and square. He had been a little bit envious that Trip was flying the Mystique to warp on their first ever trip out of the solar system he still would have let Trip fly even if he had not won because out of the two of them Trip was a star ship pilot compared to Ire’s love of small craft . ~There was no ways I was going to that opportunity away from him~ He leaned back into the seat as he plugged his jack into the runabout systems. He linked into the Mystiques sensors via the runabout and saw the image of the ship at warp in his mind’s eye. ~That looks beautiful~ The star shooting past were mesmerising and a grin spread across his face. (reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Mystique- Bridge- aACSO(R)-Ensign Sekal-0735) "Science station ready." He initiated long range scans which would be needed during traversal of space at high speeds. He turned his head to see the view as the Mystique made the jump into warp then turned back to reviewing the incoming data. If any anomalies were noted after the initial jump he would be instantly aware. He wouldn't keep monitoring it constantly however as there were automated warnings but he planned to be diligent for at least the first half hour. “So Luma is all around us? I’ll confess that I read the reports, but have a hard time…understanding. So are we stood in Luma’s brain…or somewhere else?” He turned his chair around at the question to answer the Doctor. "Luma is a disembodied entity, a non-corporeal life force if you will that has taken up residence in the primary computer. As the bridge is the center of ships control it could be likened to the brain of the ship just as the computer network could be said to be its nervous system." He shrugged. "As Luma is then connected to the ship and considers it her body you are in essence correct." (Reply: Any) (Posted by Charles Gatling) (USS Mystique – Bridge – Aft Engineering Station - aACEO – Ensign JG Keira Merek – 0737) In the resulting half an hour roughly of flight time, Keira had filled her time with monitoring the engine and power read outs, and a fair amount of people watching, the comings and goings of the bridge. She would describe it as a quiet bustling. The chirp of various key strokes from different panels through out the bridge ensured that it was never truly quiet. She looked up to the viewscreen. ~Was that Pluto we just passed?~ “Attention all stations, report - ready for warp?” the Admiral asked for a report seemingly confirming Keira’s suspicions and snapping her out of her daze. She requested ready status from Main Engineering which soon came back from Foster’s station as fully ready. “Engineering ready.” She reported, the rest of the stations chiming in turn. “Lay in a course for Trill. Warp 7.” Came the preparatory command. She shunted power away from the impulse drive and channeled it into the warp nacelles creating their warp bubble, execution control was now at the helm. “Engage.” The command of execution was given. Keira looked up to the main viewer as the stars before them erupted into an explosion of color, then settled down to what cadets in her class had called “rainbow streaks”. Her mother described it another way, like traveling a rainbow bridge. (Reply Any) (Posted by Todd) (USS Mystique – Bridge – Ops, Ens(jg) Vex'ahlia - 0737) As the ship and crew began preparing the ship for warp,Vex heard from the side of the Bridge- “So Luma is all around us? I’ll confess that I read the reports, but have a hard time…understanding. So are we stood in Luma’s brain…or somewhere else?” it was the Doctor. Before Vex or Luma could respond, Sekal who had been a temporary bond mate to Luma responded. "Luma is a disembodied entity, a non-corporeal life force if you will that has taken up residence in the primary computer. As the bridge is the center of ships control it could be likened to the brain of the ship just as the computer network could be said to be its nervous system." He shrugged. "As Luma is then connected to the ship and considers it her body you are in essence correct." Vex smiled slightly, she wasn't sure Luma would appreciate being called a 'disembodied entity' but was sure Sekal had meant no offensse by it. She coughed slightly and said, "She could tell you herself through me, if you'd like to speak with her Doctor?" (Reply Bracken/Sekal/Luma, Any) (Posted by Jono Bradley) (San Francisco - Federation Headquarters - President's Office - President Staiave – 0749) President Stiave Atremi was staring at her screen with more focus and intent that others had seen from her recently; she had asked for no interruptions as she monitored the overlay on the screen. Sector 001 was shown and a small blip indicating the USS Mystique was heading out and away from the inner planets and outwards, towards Neptune and beyond. The blip vanished but at the same time, the view expanded showing the Mystique now travelling at warp, as leaving the system and outwards. Admiral Donovan Cayne appeared as a hologram in the middle of her office. =^= Are they away? =^=, he asked and then looked back at the President who simply nodded back at the CINC. Cayne began to walk around the office, passing through the occasional chair or desk as he did so. =^= We’ve gone to some effort to make this happen but, having them go out is the best course… if we went into a full negotiation with Trill, everyone in the quadrant would take notice, and you know what happens then… =^= “We put a big X on Earth, again.”, she said slumping a little in her chair. =^= Correct, we’re not ready to become the Starfleet we once were. The fleet is in shambles, our technology is out of date but if we quietly… =^= He stopped and then disappeared… it looks like he had stepped away from his transmitter. He came back. “Problem? Admiral?”, asked the Bajoran looking back at the image of the returned hologram. =^= We’ve been quietly looking at Trill, in preparation for the mission, a few ships… one just reported in. =^= The image changed… next to the CINC was Jana Bell. =^= I had to decloak to send this message. =^= She was angry and whatever she was doing, it was secretive. The USS Wraith’s bridge was behind her and being one of the last ships with an operational phase cloaking device, the Wraith was quite a prize for anyone lucky enough to find her. =^= Admiral Bell, tell the President what you just told me. =^= =^= We’re conducting long-range scans of Trill, as ordered. When the Mystique arrives, they won’t be alone. =^= She seemed to flicker once again as the image change and on the transmission, the image of Trill appeared along with an image of a ship in orbit. “Magnify.”, said the President, now looking at the hologram at close range, the view changed and the image of the ship got larger. “Andoirans…”, she said, “Looks like they beat us to it…. What do we do now?”, she asked and Admiral Bell was quick to answer, =^= The Wraith is no match for an Andorian ship, with 20 years’ worth of advanced weapons. We’re getting clear. =^= The Wraith ended her transmission. =^= We’ve been receiving intelligence that anti-Federation movements are at work and propaganda is being spread throughout the Alpha Quadrant, I guess we now know who is trying to take advantage of that situation. =^= “Do we tell Remae?”, she said and for the first time, she showed concern for her friend. The Admiral paced around a bit. He had no love for the Bajoran Pipsqueak but, Trill was reaching out to them for help, one way or another. =^= No. He has the permission of the Trill government to attend Trill. We can’t interfere with that process. =^= The CINC disappeared from the hologram transmission leaving the President alone again, with her thoughts, feelings and the possible outcome of what would happen with the Mystique arrived. Her finger hovered over the communication system; she could send a message to the ship, carefully, quietly, before it got too far out of range. The power needed to send such a signal was increasing all the time. Would it be hard to send a small file of information directly to the Mystique wrapped up in the standard communication patterns that ships used to communicate with their headquarters? Such communications dealt with everything, from making sure the time was set correctly through to updated fleet movement information. This was going to take time. (Reply from None) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (Kir Kumari - Bridge - CO, Kera Sheia– 0800) This was not what she had envisioned back in her youth, looking through the view screen at the Trill home world and seeing not another ally and confidante but a non-aligned world in a chaotic and turbulent quadrant. A quadrant that was growing increasingly dangerous since the Federation of her youth had ceased to exist. And it had not been Andoria to blame, that Federation had been rent asunder by unimaginable violence on a number of occasions, from the Borg to the civil war which had set member worlds at each others' throats. Andoria itself had been one of the prime targets in the struggle to reclaim the unity of peace from the hands of a power hungry madman. It's Capitol City and environs wiped from the face of their world after the horrific land battles which showed the fifty second fleet that Andoria was not a prize to be easily won. In the end that fleet, her fleet by extension had ousted the madman and reclaimed the unity of peace only to have it riven from them by a fearful and increasingly paranoid legislature. Too many Andorians had spilled blood on their homeworld to have their sacrifice so disdainfully mocked. Too many had fought to advance the cause of the Federation to have it undercut by cowardice, too many warriors had claimed the rite of Ku Muran in all its bloody glory to be turned back by the thought of enemies unmet, battles unclaimed. Hers was a warrior culture that had been cowed for a time, tamed a bit so that even now its ancient tenets were only a distant memory. But that culture retained enough pride that when their sacrifices were despised they retaliated by removing themselves from the corrupted carcass of filth and taking what was theirs with them. "Kar' Sheia." "Yes..." She looked toward her communications officer, her antenna twitching at the interruption of her thoughts. "Our ambassador aboard wishes to know why we are being delayed." His own twitched in an embarrassed fashion, he clearly was uncomfortable bringing this to her attention. She frowned. "The Trill have not set a day or time for a meeting yet." "He wishes to go down to the planet nonetheless." He flinched at the lightning that flashed in her eyes. Her voice when she spoke however was controlled. "He will only be allowed off the ship when I have a guarantee of security for him." She immediately turned her head back to the view screen, the matter dismissed. Once she had been a young navigation officer... she knew that he did not like bringing the Ambassador's demands to her. So here they were, Andoria with its military and technological expertise bringing offers of companionship and trust to the Trill. With offers of treaties, mutual cooperation and protection. It was an offer the Trill would be foolish to turn down.
