History, Education and Skills

Family and Background

:

The Ikanthe Family settled on the colony world of Terra Nova, the first Extra-solar settlement of Human-Kind, and brought with them the memories of a lineage of inner-Japan and a cunning eye for trade. Over the generations, they grew to power, slowly gaining a majority of influence over the world, a proud beacon of the Terran Empire at its height. Then Emperor Spock's reforms tore the empire to shreds. The boundaries of Terran space retreated closer and closer to earth, as alien menaces raided, pillaged, and took revenge on the Terran worlds. In the year 2399, forces from the Klingon Cardassian Alliance narrowed in on Terra Nova, and the reigning Dragon-Lord of the Ikanthe Family, Karo, secretly sold the world out to its alien invaders for the protection of his family and wealth. His son, Choalith Ikanthe, discovered his subterfuge, and in a duel atop their tower, in the capitol of Logan City, Choalith struck down his father and lead a desperate defense against the Alliance forces. The cost was high, with untold collateral damage done to the human colony, but the Alliance was repelled, and in the years to follow, the Terran Empire rose again under a new and terrifying Emperor. In recognition for his heroic battle, Emperor Crusher elevated Choalith to be the new Dragon-Lord of Terra Nova, and invited him into the Terran Empire's 1st Fleet. Choalith would soon run afoul of another fearsome Terran Lord, though. During a number of invasions and skirmished in 2409, Admiral Leeta would sabotage the I.S.S. Truth, forcing Choalith and his surviving bridge crew to seek refuge in the Prime Universe. As Leeta wormed her way to the throne of Empress, he worked hard to capture a Dreadnought of immense size and power, and slowly built a resistance force of other Terrans to stand against the Bajoran Usurper.

Education

:

Katsuro is well educated, having been taught extensively in Maths, Science as well as History and Culture for both the Prime and Mirror universe. He also is trained heavily in the martial arts of his heritage, Primarily in Kendo where he holds the Second Dan, with some minor practice in Judo and Kyudo.

Pre-Starfleet History

:

In 2418, Katsuro, son of Choalith, was born aboard the Broken Sword Fleet's flagship, the Dreadnought, I.S.S. Eschaton. His father used the resources of his small, private army to ensure his son was well taught and trained, but Katsuro found life aboard a military floatilla intensely stifling, and soon became confrontational with his father over the restrictions placed over him. Fearing that his own son would break away from him, the way he'd cast down his own father, Choalith Ikanthe sent a coded message to Starfleet Intelligence. The details of what the Terran Lord offered up to Starfleet are unknown, and the Federation still considers Lord Choalith and his allies to be outlaws of the most dangerous variety... but Katsuro was granted provisional citizenship to the Federation, and after a two year probational period, was able to enter Starfleet Academy. Katsuro's Terran Heritage is not widely known, but neither terribly secret. Those who stood beside him in the academy, while wary at first, found him to be a loyal and highly tenacious friend. He has been reported to be somewhat proud and competitive, and after being planetside for six years, he's expressed a longing to return to the stars. Some speculate he may some-day seek a command of his own, though there are still concerns what a Terran might do with a Federation Starship. Many eyes are on Katsuro... more than he realizes.

Medical History

:

Katsuro Ikanthe shares the Terran sensitivity to intense light, and has been known to wear sunglasses, when allowed to by his superiors. He's been forced to endure high-light situations in Starfleet Academy, and can function, but his reaction time and focus suffer tremendously. Starfleet Medical has also raised concerns about potential psychological dangers due to his Terran Heritage and differences in family structure. While so far given a clean bill of health, any Captain that Katsuro would be assigned to would be given a warning to watch out for signs of Terran behavior; including deception, aggressiveness, and/or risk-taking habits.

Skills

:

Katsuro has the benefits of Terran physical training and skill, proficient in martial arts, as well as modern weapons training. He knows Phaser technology inside and out, and has even handled more advanced forms of Phaser systems, including Quantum Phase Technology, Agony Phaser Technology, and Isolytic weaponry. Katsuro has shown an ability for piloting small crafts, stealing one of the Valkyrie-class Attack Fighters from his father's command ship for joy rides, but as yet has made no formal efforts to become a Pilot in Starfleet. He also has demonstrated an ability to keep cool and thoughtful under pressure, and has a high tolerance for pain.

Hobbies

:

Katsuro has not explored a great deal of recreational activities, earning him the nickname "Stick" from his fellows at the academy, who liken him to the proverbial stick-in-the-mud. Despite that, he has found that he enjoys physical holodeck activities such as rock climbing, and has not been known to back down from games with his class-mates. This has resulted in him once losing a wager and being disciplined for coming to class with the incorrect uniform on. It did not become a permanent reprimand, though a few members of faculty still recall the day "Admiral Cadet" tried to get past them.

"Mars?" Keira said... "Starfleet wouldn't have accomplished anything without the Engineers, Technicians and Operations that put it all together. Rebuilding Utopia Planitia, a base on Mars itself, refitting an old Akira Class, the Mystique, an Oddyssy Class, the Republic and building two top of the line ships, the Illuminar and the Exeter, all thanks to the Engineers."- Excerpt from an Interview with Lt. Cmdr. Keira Merek 2O/CEO, USS Exeter. Stardate: 2446.01.29
