Born in 2383 the last born of Joanna and William Grey she had four older siblings all brothers.

They were a star fleet family they have all served mostly in command or tactical positions across the fleet. Her father Rear Admiral William Grey Snr was the in command of the star ship USS Reliant NCC 1685-C a new Sector Class starship based upon the Federation - Romulan Boarder. Under him his two oldest sons served until the Reliant was destroyed in an accident during the 2397 when the cloaking device failed and ruptured the main antimatter containment Valve. Also claimed in that accident was Scott Grey who was visiting his family at the time.

Five years later both Nathan Grey and their mother were fatally injured when the Uss Nimitiz was attacked by Romulans.

Kieth and Ilana were both torn about continuing their tenure in starfleet, in the course of a few years they had lost all of their family due to accidents and attacks. Kieth resigned his commission two days before graduation while Ilana continued through to complete her's 3 years later. Kieth now works as security for archeological explorations.

Ilana was born in the south west of England the youngest of five brothers, she always looked up to and admired her brothers, and her mother and father who all worked in starfleet. Because of the temperamental nature of their lives at the age of 12 Ilana was place in a full term boarding school. She was able to see her parents when ever they managed to get planet leave. Slowly but surely all of her brothers joined starfleet and she was sure she would follow in their foot steps.

She was only fourteen when her father and two eldest brothers died. While she was distraught this didn't effect her determination to join Starfleet. She had already made her life plans out. While she knew she didn't have the physical prowess of her older brothers she knew, like her mother, her avenue into starfleet was through her scientific back ground. Even at the age of fourteen she showed an aptitude with biology.

At the age of nineteen when her mother and next oldest brother died both her and Keith her youngest brother talked endlessly about their role in joining starfleet whether they should or not. However two years later when Ilana graduated Salotorian from Exeter university she knew she couldn't deny her passion and enrolled at the academy seeking a Science or Medical posting.

Ilana has Deltan ancestry, while this is now five generations back there is still 6.5% of her biological make up that isn't quite human. This has rarely had any effect with the exception of the rare occasions she has felt both the Deltan Rage and some of the Psychic abilities but these rarely happen only twice in her life has she encountered these both times were during high stress situations.

Ilana has an excellent mind. While she is not as knowledgeable as some of her older colleges she has excellent deductive reasoning skills. She graduated second in her year at university, top of her class from high school. Physically, because of her diminutive stature she knows she isn't strong or even especially quick when compared to some of the others in her Starfleet class however she works upon the basis that her education and her mind is her strongest weapon.

Ilana's life is science, she has studied as hard as she possibly can to become the top person in her class, she worked with total dedication. The only small relaxation she used to allow herself was horse riding however with her studies becoming all consuming even that fell by the wayside.

She also has a secret passion for trashy holo-novels the sort of 'mills and boon' of the day. Since she has rarely had time to socialise with men let alone have any relationships these have always been her way of living vicariously through others.

At school she used to do ballet and the clarinet and was a fair performer.
