Gr'iann's family was killed by a homicidal Caitian, which is a rarity in itself. Caitians are generally peaceful, loathing any violence, and taking an oath of pacifism at the age of maturity, 12. So when his parents were killed he had a hard time dealing with that, and his own anger.

Gr'iann was born on Caitia Prime. His parents died while he was young at the hands of a criminal. Gr'iann was then raised by his clan. His anger over the untimely death of his parents made it difficult to maintain his pacifism. But through the help of the clans doctor he was able to overcome
