(JG) Chenoll - 08:00) Chenoll was standing, sipping a cup of tea and reading over last night's Engineering report. She opened her mouth and raised the cup to her mouth when she was interrupted by a soft female voice. "Lieutenant Chenoll?" the voice asked, Chenoll turned. "Yes?" she replied with a smile, "And you are?" she asked. (reply Bristed) "Ah, yes. I've been advised of your arrival, Ensign. Do you know much about cloaking devices?" Chenoll asked. (reply Bristed) "Our cloaking device is fairly reliable, according to my assessment of Ensign H'Chir's reports, but still, its nearing 12 years old, so we'll need to keep an eye on it," Chenoll said. (reply Bristed) "I'd like you to run a simple diagnostic on the cloaking device and turn in the report to me and the captain, we can discuss your regular assistant CEO duties when thats completed," Chenoll explained. (reply Bristed) "How are you settling into the ship otherwise, Ensign?" Chenoll asked with a friendly smile. (reply Bristed, any) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - ACEO - Ensign Jacqueline Bristed - 08:02) "And you are?" Chenoll asked. "I'm the new Ensign, Jacqueline Bristed," she introduced herself. "Ah, yes. I've been advised of your arrival, Ensign. Do you know much about cloaking devices?" Chenoll asked. Jacqueline thought about it for a moment. "I know enough not to break one when I touch it but not enough to MacGyver one from found objects. I hope that works." For a moment, she forgot that the obscure reference was probably lost on Chenoll, but she decided it was best to move on. "Our cloaking device is fairly reliable, according to my assessment of Ensign H'Chir's reports, but still, its nearing 12 years old, so we'll need to keep an eye on it," Chenoll said. "Twelve-year-olds can be ornery," Bristed agreed. "Has anyone looked over it recently?" "I'd like you to run a simple diagnostic on the cloaking device and turn in the report to me and the captain, we can discuss your regular assistant CEO duties when thats completed," Chenoll explained. ~Ah, shouldn't have opened my big mouth.~ "It's a deal then," she said, suppressing a rueful grin at her own thought. "How are you settling into the ship otherwise, Ensign?" Chenoll asked with a friendly smile. "It's...it's an adventure. But everyone's been friendly, so that's a good thing," Jacqueline replied. "And I'm going to have to remember the computer isn't like the one on the Minitel," she added with a grin. "No more slang unless I can't help it." (reply Chenoll, any) (Posted by Siobhan) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - ACEO - Lt. (JG) Chenoll - 08.04) "It's...it's an adventure. But everyone's been friendly, so that's a good thing. And I'm going to have to remember the computer isn't like the one on the Minitel. No more slang unless I can't help it," the ensign said. Chenoll smiled and nodded politely, even though she had no idea what the ensign was talking about. She was sure, in time, that she would find out. At any rate.. "Ok, continue with your diagnostic, Ensign," (reply Bristed) Chenoll walked back to the small station dedicated to the chief engineer and began running a quick computer-automated diagnostic of her own, on the overall warp drive system, and while it ran, she thought about how busy her day had been, so far. (reply none, Bristed, any) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - ACEO - Ensign Jacqueline Bristed - 08.07) "Ok, continue with your diagnostic, Ensign," "Yes'm," Jacqueline replied, turning to the cloaking device and instigating a diagnostic. It didn't look too bad, but looks could be deceiving. Then again, something about it felt right, and that feeling was usually accurate when it came to most kinds of technology. Everything showed up fine, and the young ensign was soon able to return to the Lieutenant with the results. "Everything looks good, sir." (reply Chenoll, any) (Posted by Siobhan) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - Ensign Robin Bourne - 09:52) Being curious by nature, Robin poked his head around the corner to see what the commotion was about. It didn't take long for him to realise that a Ferengi staring at a Warp Core was the first sign of trouble. The second was him the gazing at his boss. ~Man, this ain't going to be easy for her~ he thought to himself as he watched Chenoll blush towards the Ferengi. ~fraternising would always make a better deal for them, in any situation~ It didn't take long before he had enough, and carried on taking down readings of power consumptions test results to his PADD, and making sure that the systems were working in the correct fashion as displayed on the schematics. A thought had occurred to go rescue her, but it was soon overrun with him looking for the next station for the next set of tests to complete. ~If she needs help, she can call any of us over. She is a leader after all~ (reply any) (Posted by Robin) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering – Daimon Brak – 09:52) "So, I understand you’re involved in the mission?" The blue lady looked at him inquisitively, and for the first time since being in the cave Brak felt a tinge of doubt about whether he could pull this caper off. “Involved…” he cooed, “Yes, I am involved in the mission. Your captain himself has said I am most important in your top priority mission.” The blue lady showed him an uneasy smile, but relented and took him to a subsidiary console where they could work. The Ferengi Daimon punctuated his twirls with seemingly random configurations for the sensors and deflector array, and despite the seeming impossibility of it as he whirled around, he remained conscious enough of her commands and the computer’s responses to correct the Lieutenant as they went along. "No, no... Fifty-one. Ahhh... Fifty-three says he; forty-five says I... Tis merry match indeed!" (Reply Chenoll if desired, any, none) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre - Strategic Operations Centre – STRATOPS, Ensign Korak – 10:26) Korak called up the chronometer display and made a mental note that it had taken just over an hour to rid himself of the intrusion of the Intelligence Officer. Whilst not entirely at odds with each other, the Strategic Operations and Intelligence services did overlap in a number of areas, although Korak found it distastefully illogical that an operative with a specific agenda should take such a wide-ranging interest in ship-board affairs. All the same, it had been useful to speak his thoughts to another individual, and to hear the logical counter-arguments voiced back at him. It pained him to admit that there were a number of areas where additional counter-measures had been identified; a result of his isolation undercover no doubt. ~There is no logic in shame in ignorance,~ he thought and immediately disliked the clumsiness of the sentence structure. Diverting a small portion of his mind to providing a better idiom, Korak returned to the task at hand. (Reply none) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - ACSO Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie - 11:17) Kenny and James entered Main Engineering. The blue light of the warp core illuminated the room like a pillar of ice which showed like an aurora borealis. Standing in the centre of the room was that Ferengi that they had taken aboard. Kenny nodded at James and they both walked up to the warp core. They both made suspicious glances at the Ferengi as they passed him. A Bolian female stood at the main control panel next to the bar around the warp core. Kenny knew that she was Chenoll, Acting CEO. Kenny and James walked over to her. "Lieutenant." Kenny said and nooded. "I have here, my report to the Captain on how I think we can defend ourselves agents the Zulu Alpha's. I have brought it to you first before I bring it to the Captain, as I wanted to see if you agreed with these ideas, as I have not come up with much and could use help." (reply Lietenant Chenoll) (posted by Gavin Work) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - ACEO - Lt. (JG) Chenoll - 11.19) Chenoll watched has Ensign McKenzie and another officer arrived in Engineering started talking with her. "I have here, my report to the Captain on how I think we can defend ourselves agents the Zulu Alpha's. I have brought it to you first before I bring it to the Captain, as I wanted to see if you agreed with these ideas, as I have not come up with much and could use help," he asked. Chenoll gave a friendly smile, "Sure. I think I've got some time here. What kind of ideas do you have in mind?" Chenoll asked. (reply McKenzie, any) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering, ACSO - Ensign (JG) Kenneth McKenzie - 11:23) Kenny handed the PADD to Chenoll. "Well, you know how cronaton particles are lodged in the hall when go into cloak? Well, I was wondering if there was any way to gather these particles and expel them from our main deflector? If it is possible, we could fire them like a weapon and damage the Zulu Alpha's hull with them. Like sand to skin." (Reply Lt Chenoll.) (Posted by Gavin Work) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - Acting CEO - Lt. (JG) Chenoll - 11.25) Chenoll listened to the ensign's idea and nodded. "Its an interesting concept, Ensign, however, there is a few engineering flaws." (reply McKenzie, iyw) "Chroniton particles don't occur with enough density in natural space, so we'd have to generate them on board, which would draw a lot of power," Chenoll explained. (reply McKenzie, iyw) "We could draw some power from the shield generator, but, that would weaken our defenses, but still, it is an interesting idea," Chenoll explained, and she picked up a blank PADD. "You two should make an official proposal, and run some simulations in the holodeck, then, I'll call the Captain and Lt. Vasilyovna to a meeting, and you two can present your idea," Chenoll said. (reply McKenzie) "My team and I will be here to assist, if you need any help. Good luck, Ensign," Chenoll said with a smile. (reply McKenzie, Clark, any) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre - MXO`s Quarters - MXO Bruce Kowalski - 11:30) The light in the room was now at one fifth that of normal illumination, the MXO was seated at his personal console, an elbow resting upon the desk & one hand propped against the side of his face whilst looking at the heading now being displayed upon the screen. The words were as clear as they were ominous & they were now flashing steadily causing the subdued light in the room to change imperceptibly in responce to it`s regular pulse. ..CONDITIONS FOR EVOCATION OF SPECIAL ORDER 53-ALPHA.. Pausing briefly Kowalski accessed the file in question, it`s activation causing the computer to imediately respond with a request for classified clearance. [Command level Authorisation for special order five three Alpha is required....please supply the required level one access codes] Kowalski paused again, knowing as he did so that once this particular ball was rolling, he might actually have to see it through to it`s conclusion. He took a deep breath & then let it go again before continuing. "Authorisation Kowalski...omega five Alpha Alpha....decript", said the MCO in a clear monotone voice to which the computer responded in it`s usual unemotional manner. [Level one access is confirmed....please standby] The screen then scrolled to display the relevant information, this being the criteria required for the covert assasination of the president should the mission to bring him home fail. To some this might have seemed an uneccessary step to be taking but the truth of the matter now was that Nell was privy to certain information that quite simply could not fall into the wrong hands, & special order five three alpha was now in place to ensure that that did not happen under any circumstances. With the commands now opened it was up to Kowalski himself, as the second in command of the marine detail onboard the Spectre to ensure that the actions required, if indeed they became neccesary, were duly satisfied to the letter. And it was not sitting well with him at all...... (Reply None) (Posted by Alan Reading) (USS Spectre - MXO`s Quarter`s - MXO Major Bruce Kowalski & Lieutenant Major Savage - 11:40) Kowalski had been grabbing a little rest on his bunk whilst allowing the reality of the previous task to settle into his psyche. His eyes were closed, one of the Strauss waltz`s was playing at a reduced level through the personal sound system as the MXO allowed himself to drift to the sweet, dulcet tones of the composer. Strauss had always calmed his nerves before but today the music just wasn`t hitting the mark at all as he contemplated the events to follow. An incoming subspace message flashing up on his console & heralded also by the ever present computer announcement however broke his attention from the composition & he turned, slightly annoyed at the sudden intrusion. [Secure subspace transmission coming in from Starbase thirty nine Sierra] Kowalski swung himself upright on his bunk & then he leaned forwards, his head in his hands. "Kowalski here, go ahead......this better be good because you ruined Strauss", said the MXO in a slightly agrieved tone of voice. "Strauss sir?", came the inquisitive reply. The voice of course needed no introduction, it was the ever likeable Lieutanant Major reporting in from the captured Zulu Alpha... "Never mind", said Kowalski, "I`m assuming you made it without getting your ass torn out by a Targ", he added wryly. "Er...Yes sir, we have docked at Starbase thirty Nine Sierra as ordered, the science guys are busy on the computer core & relative subsystems & my.....umm, ass sir is intact", said Savage. Kowalski sighed at the realisation that he had just lost a substantial bet he had arranged with some of the others about Savage making it all the way without a scratch, then he allowed himself to fall back onto his bunk whilst prompting the officer for further details of their transit back to federation space. "We encountered no hostiles sir, however, reports have been coming in regarding Romulan movements within their side of the neutral zone", said Savage continuing on, "we also picked up communications snippets of what we believe to be the second Zulu Alpha, it looks like it might be en route to the Carraya system with a warbird for company sir", he added. Kowalski sat up once again, his interest suddenly piqued at the mention of the Carraya system, nobody was even supposed to know where they were headed so it`s very mention rang alarm bells right away. "A warbird?", said Kowalski, "are you sure they mentioned the Carraya system?" "Yes sir, we intercepted coded transmissions between two vessels, we believe it was the warbird DihVhael & the other Alpha, personel logs on the captured vessel show her Captain to be one Marco Ryan, he`s a renegade sir & a regular fox in the chicken coup", said Savage. "The 52nd are now aware of the transmissions & the Hood has been dispatched to patrol the federation border under pretence of scientific study in preperation for a possible rendezvouz with the Spectre", he added. "Understood", said Kowalski, "I`ll get this to the Spectre`s CO imediately, until then continue working with Starbase personel on the first Zulu Alpha, I want to know where to hit them to make the most damage Savage, keep me advised, Kowalski out", said the MXO as he stood up & stretched his muscles before heading out the door. (Reply None) (Posted by Alan Reading) (USS Spectre - MXO`s Quarter`s - MXO Major Bruce Kowalski - 11:42) "Kowalski to Bowie, meeting now...my quarters", said the MXO with just a hint of aprehension in his normally steadfast tone of voice at the discussion he knew would now follow. (Reply Bowie) "Something has come up, I need to speak with you URGENTLY Master Sergeant, I don`t care what it is your doing right now, haul ass marine", said Kowalski. (Reply Bowie) The MXO then moved towards the replicator, he needed a drink. "Bourbon....on the rocks", said the MXO whilst slowly unbuttoning the top of his tunic before then stretching his neck to ease the slight tension building within his upper vertebra. ~Where the hell is Krige when I need him.....jeez it sucks to be me~ Kowalski paused briefly, a hundred & one different matters running around in his brain, then he reached into the reception tray of the replicator to take the much needed drink. Taking one sip, he moved off again towards the window in his quarters & gazed outwards at the warp stars now streaking past whilst he waited for Bowie to arrive. (Reply Bowie) (Posted by Alan Reading) (USS Spectre - Marine Barracks #5 - Forward Assault Squad CO - Master Sergeant Scott Bowie - 11.46) Bowie let out a quick grunt and saw the bright beams of light from the ceiling beating down in his sweat-filled eyes. He completed another sit up, and suddenly, he took in everything. Bowie, was laying on his back, not wearing a shirt in a typical macho marine fashion, doing situps in a rapid pace, and next to him, was a Tellarite Marine. Standing above their heads, was a large bulky Bolian, who was counting how many each man was doing. Surrounding them, was a circle of sweaty, shouting Marines, shouting and cheering for one of the two men. Most of the humans were cheering for Bowie, the non-humans, where mostly cheering for the Tellarite. However, they all fell silence and still at the sound of Major Kowalski's voice. =/\= Kowalski to Bowie, meeting now...my quarters.=/\= Bowie was holding position in a half-crunch. "Sir, is it important? I'm currently in my workout routine. Muffled laugher broke out somewhere from the crowd of Marines. =/\= Something has come up, I need to speak with you URGENTLY Master Sergeant, I don`t care what it is your doing right now, haul ass marine,=/\= the Major said. Bowie jumped to his feet and grabbed a towel and cleared the sweat from his eyes. "Sir, yes, sir!" he shouted. He pushed his way through the crowd, and grabbed his exercise tunic from his bunk on his way out, and slipped it on his way to his turbolift. (Reply None) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre - MXO's Quarters - Forward Assault Squad CO - Master Sergeant Scott Bowie - 11.52) Bowie walked in with his towel wrapped around his shoulders, then stood up and saluted. "Major, Master Sergeant Scott Bowie reporting has requested, sir!" (reply Kowalski, any) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre – MXO’s Quarters – MXO Major Bruce Kowalski – 11:53) At the arrival of the Master Sergeant, Kowalski lowered his glass from his lips & turned about to face him. The man seemed pensive to say the very least, he had gone to attention imediately however & had saluted the MXO with the usual gusto normaly likened to members of the marine corp, the sweat still dripping from his forehead after having abruptly cut short his exercise routine elsewhere. "At ease Bowie, have a seat", said Kowalski as he moved away from the viewing port & towards the seating area. Bowie relaxed his stance accordingly & then moved likewise to the chair nearest him, clearly wondering what it was that the MXO had called him up there for. Kowalski allowed himself to fall heavily back onto the sofa & then he picked up a small metallic object & began rolling it end over end in his hand repeatedly, it was as though it gave him focus, like a worry bead of some kind used to ease tension. Bowie said nothing, it was just one of those things the MXO did whenever he was troubled, it was the norm but he knew that something out of the norm was most certainly about to be revealed. "How`s Houseman these day`s Scott?", said the MXO going off on an apparent tangent & switching to first name protocol. (Reply Bowie) "Is he still our number one sharpshot or has there been a contender for his throne that I`m not aware of?" said Kowalski. (Reply Bowie) "I see", said Kowalski, "do you trust him?" (Reply Bowie) The question had clearly caught the Master Sergeant off guard, every one of the marines on board could be trusted implicitely of course & both he & the MXO knew that already. Each of them had already risked life & limb to ensure the safety of one another countless times already & even though the question seemed loaded, Bowie clearly knew that something untoward was going to be asked now of the man in question. Kowalski paused for a moment & took another sip of his Bourbon, then he turned to Bowie once again. "Ok Scott, I`ll not beat about the bush on this one, the order has come down from HQ that we are go to evoke Special order five three Alpha should the conditions to do so become satisfied", said the MXO settling back into his seat to observe the Master Sergeant’s reaction. Bowie probably didn`t know the specifics of the order but he more than likely knew that by it`s very nature, it was something extreme. It sounded ominous anyway...... (Reply Bowie) "Then I`ll spell it out for you, if the primary goal of this mission fails to be achieved, we have just been given a go to take out the President ourselves in order to ensure that he does not fall back into Doenitz`s hands again", said Kowalski, "and let me tell you Scott, this does not sit well with me at all" "Basicly I have to find a man to take the shot if neccesary & from past dealings, Housman looks to be the man to do that", he added. (Reply Bowie) "What I need to know is do you think he is up to that, you know him better than most so is he the kind of man to fold if required to carry out such an order", said Kowalski" (Reply Bowie) "I`ll not order the man to do this of course, he must volunteer, if he doesn`t want the mission I`ll need to know who the next candidate might be", he added downing the last of the Bourbon & grimacing at the acid burn in his throat as the spirit was swiftly upended. (Reply Bowie) "It might not come to it anyway, if Castigan succeeds & brings the man aboard we stand down, I need this in place just in case", said the MXO. "Whoever does this will take up a position away from the main group, a second away mission running in tandem with the Spectre`s, it will be explained as a routine precautionary measure to back up & provide cover for the first but it`s objective will of course differ markedly", said Kowalski. (Reply Bowie) "Then I`ll leave this in your capable hands, do what is neccesary to choose the trigger but remain discrete", said the MXO, "I don`t have to remind you that this is a confidential meeting Scott, it remains between the two of us & those directly involved, nobody else can know about this" (Reply Bowie) "Krige is aware of course, as the Understar commander, he has authorised ascendance", said Kowalski as he stood up & moved again towards the replicator for another Bourbon. "This is a nasty business make no bones.....Can I get you one?", said the MXO enquiringly as he motioned to the replicator. (Reply Bowie) Kowalski shrugged at the Master Sergeants turning down of the offer of a drink, then he took his newly arrived glass from the reception tray & returned to the window. "Let me know when everything is in place Scott", said Kowalski, to which Bowie simply nodded & scratched at his neck just once as though just bitten by a bug or something. "Dismissed Bowie", said Kowalski resuming once again the previous manner of address as he did so. (Reply Bowie) (Posted by Alan Reading) (USS Spectre – Armoury – Corporal Houseman – 12:45) Houseman sat in the armoury with the peaces of a TR-116 Projectile Rifle around him. He had taken it appart and had cleaned all the intricate parts. He carefully put each part together taking care that they fitted neatly. ~Its good to have one of these again~ He slipped the wire frame helmet and slid the monocle over his eye. He stood and held the rifle to his shoulder. He activated the rifles tracker by sliding his finger over the tracker ball on the rifle. He scanned through the bulkhead and into the corridor behind. The monocle showing then image with a slight yellowish tinge. ~This is why I like this~ He quickly resisted the urge to go snooping around peoples quarters. He panned along the corridor and was the turbolift open. He saw Agent Smith exit and head towards the armoury. ~Wounder what she wants~ The as the doors opened he called out. "Nice to see you Agent Smith." (reply Smith) (reply Smith, any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Out side the Armoury – Agent Smith – 12:55) Jo has spent allot of the morning with Korak going over his plans. She dearly wanted to go with the team to get the President. She wanted to something more then just baby sitting the Doctor. She realised that the probably would not be going but it was worth a try. ~Won't be gong anywhere if you not ready~ She stepped towards the Armoury door. (Reply Houseman) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Armoury – Agent Smith – 12:56) The doors opened. "Nice to see you Agent Smith." She stopped for a moment and looked at Corporal Houseman who was pointing a TR-116 at her. "Never took you for a peeping tom Corporal." (Reply Houseman) Jo smiled. "Nice to see you have a big mouth as ever corporal but can you do it when it counts." (Reply Houseman) "Okay then coup real name you weapon." (reply Houseman) (reply Houseman, any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Out side the Armoury – Corporal Houseman – 12:58) "Never took you for a peeping tom Corporal." Houseman smiled. "Only you Agent Smith, only for you." Jo smiled. "Nice to see you have a big mouth as ever corporal but can you do it when it counts." Houseman's smile widened. "Are you casting aspersions about the Corps Agent Smith. Coz I can take you any time Sir." "Okay then corporeal name you weapon." He thought for a moment. "Okay then II-D on the firing range." He saw Jo nod as the headed over and signed out two Phaser Mark II-D. They walked over to the firing range and set up. (reply any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Strategic Operations Centre – STRATOPS, Ensign Korak – 13:06) Having reviewed the structure of the Carraya system, it’s various planetary bodies, comets, asteroids, moons and other celestial debris, Korak was now fully conversant in the navigational obstacles that could be put to use in disguising the Spectre’s presence. Logically, he knew there would be at least one enemy ship either already in orbit, or closing on the Carraya system at high warp (possibly more than one given the various factions at work and the prominence of their target). Thus it was equally logical that they should avoid lowering the cloak at all at such a conflux of routes. Unfortunately the importance of the mission outweighed the risk to ship and crew in lowering the cloak at Carraya or pretty much anywhere else, and given that they were moving ahead as quickly as possible, Korak flashed the message up to the bridge that, on the available information, the safest orbit would be as they’d originally thought: a stationary orbit above the planet’s southern pole. Knowing that they would begin a final approach to Carraya IV at any moment, Korak did not stop, preferring instead to continue absorbing as much information as possible. (Reply any, none) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - CMO - Williams - 13.09) Andrew looked around sickbay. Every thing was calm. ~Nice to see that it's not always mental~ He looked at the chronometer. All he knew was that they were out of warp. ~Must be closing on Carraya IV. Hope the president is in one piece~ He had spent the last couple of hours going over the presidents medical file with Patrick. He felt certain that whatever condition that they found him they were prepared. He walked back into his office trying not to get under his staffs feet. ~Nice to know what was happening~ He stopped himself from walking out of sickbay. ~You can't just wander off you need to stay here until you needed~ he reluctantly sat down in his chair and waited. (reply any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO T'Vhor - 13:10) The mood on the bridge of the federation vessel was pensive to say the least, it`s arrival in the system had brought with it yet another question that now required an answer sooner, rather than later. The Spectre had now come to a full stop four thousand kilometres from the apogee of Carraya IV. Having dropped out of warp only fifteen minutes beforehand, passive sensors had detected a distortion field sitting above the planets atmosphere that may, or may not be a cloaked vessel. The risks of simply going in now without thoroughly investigating this were of course foolhardy at best, suicidal at worse. The good news though was that the phased cloak was operating at full efficiency with no spurious emmisions that might be detected by another vessel, so that much in itself was enough to negate the possibility that the possible contact had spotted them also. The Zulu Alpha`s however had proved that the Spectre's cloak was not completely foolproof, if they had been seen then the other contact was not acting upon it. Yet! Turning towards the Science station, the Captain prompted for an update in respect of his prior order of investigating the distortion field further. "Are there any indications to suggest that this might be one of the modified Prometheus vessels?", said the Captain. "Your recommendations lieutenant?", he asked. (Reply Rogers) "I agree, if we approach from the southern pole of the planet it would minimise the risks", said the Captain. "If there is a cloaked vessel however & it does match the Zulu Alpha configuration, we cannot be certain that we won`t be detected", he added. He could smell it. =/\= T’Vhor to Daimon Brak, please report to the bridge immediately; I believe that we will require your knowledge very soon. =/\= With a snarl, the Ferengi picked up his drink and walked straight for the nearest exit. “Coming, captain! "Glad he's left. he was driving me potty up and down like that." she whispered to Marshal "I know what you mean. Why don't you ask Dr O'Harper if there is anything we can give him to make him stop." Marshal whispered back. "Like what? Ambazine. You know he's on that much caffeine it won't work." Marshal give her a sly look. "I was thinking about Paralaxone." Douwsy looked at her for a moment. "Paralaxone?" "Just enough to paralyse his legs that's all." Douwsy broke into a grin. "Your evil Nurse marshal." "I learn from the best Sister Douwsy." She shook her head and picked up the PADD. Looking over his last few sentences Patrick shook his head. ~Ahh feels like I haven’t done this in ages and it has all just built up,~ Patrick thought to himself. Looking over the nurses and other doctors reports Patrick attempted to locate an interesting case to sink his teeth into. However as a whole it was day to day injuries and no real challenge to him. Tapping his fingers on the side of the consol Patrick focused on the voice that caught his attention. "Here are the most resent Obs chart Doctor." Patrick looked at the nurse and smiled broadly. “Ahh lets have a look,” Patrick looked up and down the chart and then grinned. “Come on Douwsy where are the fun cases the life and death moments,” Patrick stated grinning, hoping she would know he was joking about the mundane nature of the job in 7 out of 10 cases. "Nothing tangible sir", said Vasilyovna, "the distortion field is registering exactly as before, sensors can`t disseminate anything definate", she added whilst continuing to run her fingers across the tactical console in an attempt to maximise the efficiency of their passive sensor array, restricted as they were from using active sensors. It was a tense moment for sure, if the distortion field turned out to be anything other than simply a freak atmospheric anomoly, then the situation could turn in an instance. The Spectre however, continued on it`s course until such time as it had reached Carraya IV`s optimal apogee. T'Vhor then gave the command to enter orbit & standby all stations. He had decided that he needed to do some thing for a little bit. ~Lets relax a little~ "Computer load program Williams beta 4." The holodeck changed into a 21st century operating theatre. Andrew smiled to himself. He had gotten this program from a surgeon who ran the course he had gone to. "Computer I need a patient, an adolescent male. A anaesthetist, anaesthetic nurse, scrub nurse, circulating nurse and an assistant." He waited as the computer carried out his requests. ~I need this to be fun. i don't want to get too carried away~ "Computer condition of the patient appendicitis." The computer beeped. "Run program." The operating theatre came to life. Andrew walked over to the assistant. "So have you reviewed the notes." Andrew applied the surgical mask to his face. "Yes Doctor." Andrew nodded he walked over to the sink and began to wash his hands. "Good what do you think our cause of action should be?" "An appendectomy." Andrew nodded again as he put on the gown and gloves. "Good get scrubbed up and we'll begin." He walked over to the patient. "Prep please." He took the prep and the sponge holder from the scrub nurse and began to prep the patient. (reply O'Harper) (reply O'Harper, any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO T'Vhor - 13:20) The Spectre had now established orbit above the southern pole of Carraya IV, the atmospheric anomoly they had observed earlier had remained reassuringly where it was & the robed Castigan had now arrived on the bridge to attempt to establish communication with the President, if indeed he was even down there. The Captain had of course given the Presidential aide access to the comms terminal, in order that he could work alongside the communications officer in inputting the required frequencies & algorythms needed to trigger the Presidents personal transponder. So far however, they had drawn a blank & all attempts at initiating contact had failed. "I trust that the communications array is functioning correctly?", said the CO turning to the comms officer. "Aye sir, but whilst cloaked & out of phase, I do not believe that our signal is being intercepted", said the Vulcan Lieutenant. "Has Daimon Brak completed the alterations to the phased cloak", asked the Captain addressing Ensign Bristed now as she manned the engineering console. (Reply Bristed) The news wasn`t good to say the least, the fact that there seemed to be no discernable change in their signature could only mean one of two things, either the array had failed or Brak had lied. It went without saying of course that this transmission relied upon the Ferengi`s claimed ability to enable their comms whilst still phase cloaked, if he had indeed duped them then their only course of action now was to decloak. Not a good option whilst a possible enemy vessel hung in orbit of Carraya IV also!. "Lieutenant Nolly`s, are we detecting any human or Bajoran lifesigns on the surface via passive sensors?", said T'Vhor, knowing already that their inability to use active sensors was completely negated by their phased cloak. (Reply Nolly`s, Any) The Captain paused briefly whilst running the latest information through his head, then he turned to Rogers who had remained unusually silent throughout. "Ready your away team Lieutenant", said the Captain, "Major Kowalski has arranged a small detail of marines to accompany you as backup so ensure he is made aware of these latest developments", said T'Vhor. "Inform me the moment you are ready to leave" (Reply Rogers) The Captain then opened a channel to Doctor Williams. "Bridge to sickbay, Doctor Williams, please meet Lieutenant Rogers in transporter room one for imediate beam down to the surface", said the Captain as Rogers entered the turbolift with an increasingly worried looking Castigan now in tow. (Reply Williams) "Just yourself Doctor & one nurse, Doctor O'Harper will be remaining on board in case we run into anything up here, you have all the information required to attend the President if need be", said T'Vhor. (Reply Williams, IYW) "Lieutenant Nolly`s, if we decloak, what is your estimate on how long we can remain undetected in a diametrical orbit to the anomoly noted earlier?", said T'Vhor turning once again to the Acting CSO. (Reply Nolly`s) "Understood", said the Captain turning to Bristed as she continued to monitor her board dutifully. "Ensign Bristed, prepare the Spectre for minimal power signature whilst decloaked, all non essential systems will be powered down for five minutes but be ready to bring all systems online if we need them", said the CO turning quickly then to the tactical officer. "Lieutenant Vasilyovna, we may need to go to red alert the moment all systems are restored, please be prepared to initiate the targeting scanners & enable all weapons on my order" "Aye sir", said the Tactical officer as she stood ready at her console, the Captain now turning to face the viewscreen as he settled back into the command chair in readiness of what was soon to come. He had his TR-116 over one shoulder and pistol as his personal weapon. Although the TR-116 was an old type of weapon being a projectile rifle, it was his favourite rifle. He definately needed this one for the mission he had been assigned. He shifted his weight as he waited for the beamdown. He had taken this mission on without hesitation. Better for him to do this than the president fall into Admiral Doenitz hands where he would undoubtedly have a fate worse then death. "Marines." Rogers engaged in conversation with the Doctor for a short time over the SFI agent & then he had ordered everyone not suitably equipped to make sure they were so. Castigan of course had maintained his usual, diplomatic like silence the entire time, his thoughts now focused as they were on their mission & their need now to locate president Nell at all costs. His transponder codes had failed to get any responce on the bridge earlier but he hoped that once they were on the surface, a suitable responce would be forthcoming & they could finally return to federation space with their precious cargo. Looking to the Marines nearby however, he senced a certain unease in their manner. It was true of course that Marines were invariably highly strung anyway, but this time it seemed there was something more to it than simple adrenalisation. Brushing the thoughts aside however, Castigan gathered his long robes about him & then stepped up onto the transport pads in readiness for their beamout. (Reply, Any, None) (Posted by Alan Reading) (USS Spectre - Transporter Room #1 - FO - Lt. Brian Rogers - 13.36) Rogers walked in and saw the squad of Marines standing at ready. Rogers went to the weapons locker and opened it and pulled out an equipment belt and wrapped it around his waist and grabbed a hand phaser and a tricorder and slipped them in their usual positions, then spotted Dr. Williams, his nurse, and the unsettling Agent Smith enter the transporter room. "I don't recall asking for any agents to come on my away mission," Rogers said in a curt tone of voice. (reply Smith) Rogers glanced at Williams, then frowned. "Very well, you can come along, but don't try to arrest the Doc during the mission or anything like that," he said, seriously. He gestured to the weapons locker. "Get geared up." "Disengage the Phased Cloak Ensign", said the Captain. (Reply Bristed) The Spectre shimmered into view as the cloak disengaged, the bridge crew visible holding a breath now in anticipation of something suddenly coming to bear upon them. Vasilyovna payed particular attention to her threat indicators of course & then suggested a short active scan of the area to be absolutely sure. "Negative Lieutenant, if there is anything in high orbit of Carraya IV, it will imediately detect us the moment we initiate active scanning", said the Captain wasting no time now to contact the FO once again. "Bridge to transporter room one", said T'Vhor. (Reply Rogers) "Your beamdown point is one kilometre from the reported lifeform readings, you may transport at will", said the Captain, "the Spectre will be returning to it`s cloaked status the moment you are safely down on the surface & decloak again for the routine communications update in thirty minutes, communication silence is of course advised beforehand unless absolutely neccesary", he added. (Reply Rogers) The Captain then turned his attention to Vasilyovna & Bristed. "Maintain passive scans for anything entering the system, prepare to re-engage the cloak", said T'Vhor. (Reply Bristed) Vasilyovna simply nodded in responce, it was taken as read that the security chief would be doing this anyway but the Captain was nothing but typical of his Vulcan heritage & a logical need to pass out the order anyway. Now all they had to do was await the confirmation that the away team were safely down. (reply any) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Personal quarter`s - ACEO - Ensign Bristed - 19:03) Jacqueline dug out the holodeck program she had been working on lately, figuring now was as good a time as any to work some of it out. Particularly on a one-word command to keep from getting killed in certain situations, because even a simulated death was something she did not want to experience. "All right, let's see..." she thought out loud, scanning through the programming. "It has to be a word I wouldn't be likely to say unless it was an emergency...." The perfect word came to her, something that wouldn't be heard in the context of her programmed world and that was reserved for when someone was upset: an expletive referring to fecal matter would fit nicely. She added the command, then ran a debug on her program before saving it. With everything in order, she decided perhaps she should test it soon, just to be sure there wasn't something she hadn't noticed when the program wasn't running. ~After everything's been put away. Then it's like a reward.~ she promised herself. ~A reward visit to Pern.~ (reply none) (posted by Siobhan) (USS Spectre - Holodeck - ACEO - Ensign Bristed - 19:42) Everything was in its place now, no longer piled in a heap on the bed or the floor, so Jacqueline fulfilled her promise to herself to test her program. She had cast herself as a Candidate, one of the many hopeful young men and women hoping for a dragon, skipping some of the elements she knew worked. After all, this was a test run, so she was still debugging it. Suddenly the grid of the holodeck was no more, replaced by young men and women frantically throwing on white robes. "They're hatching! Hurry up or you'll miss it!" A voice from nowhere said. ~Great, the wrong characters are doing that. Have to rework the dragon speech parameters.~ At least it hadn't been mind-speech from the human voice, but that was irritating. "Computer, freeze program. Let's skip ahead to Threadfall, dragon profile Gazaleth." Just as suddenly as she had found herself amid a flurry of excited Candidates, she now sat on the back of a young green dragon, flying against the silver menace of Thread. She noticed a hissing silvery strand escape the notice of the other beasts and their riders. ~Gaz, there! ~Jacqueline thought, then realized the computer couldn't hear her mind. She repeated herself outloud, making a mental note to figure out how to replicate mindspeech in the program as she did so. The dragon dived after the clump of Thread, flaming to destroy the stuff, but neither one noticed a different clump, one falling from above them. As the first clump burned into harmless char, the second hissing, writhing Thread slammed into the pair, eating away at human and dragon flesh alike. And then there was utter blackness, and cold beyond anything Jacqueline had ever imagined. Now would be a good time to test that emergency stop... "Shi--" but no sound came out, because Gazaleth was still in the non-dimension of Between. Almost immediately after they returned to the Threadfall. Gazaleth's left wing, foreleg, and some of her side were badly scored and oozing green ichor. Jacqueline saw she had fared little better. She swore in sympathy and horror at what had happened, wondering if perhaps this was too realistic. As she did so, the familiar grid of the holodeck came back into view, leaving Gazaleth and the rest of Pern behind, and the horrific injuries the ensign had sustained disappeared. "I need to error trap this thing," she said to herself. "That...really needs work." (reply any) (posted by Siobhan Armstrong)
