"What can I do for you?" Ellie took a seat across from the Captain and crosses her ankles demurely. She takes a deep breath and centers herself. She was a lowly ensign and he was the Captain and she felt more than a tad bit intimidated. "I think that you should take a telepath along with you to the surface. I'd like to come with you, and I think I can be a valuable addition to the away team." She takes another breath, steadying her voice which had quivered a bit. "I know that I am not the most physical person, but I can take care of myself and I won't be a burden to the team. Sir." The nervousness creeped back into her voice and she sat, waiting for her Commander to pass judgement on her. (reply Captain, any) (posted by Mel :-) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 14:07) The Councellors request had been to the point and typically 'Councellor'ish', as one would expect. As far as the Captain was concerned, Councellors were not usually known for beating about the proverbial bush so to speak and Caras had not disappointed. "I think that you should take a telepath along with you to the surface", she had said. "I'd like to come with you, and I think I can be a valuable addition to the away team.", she had added, before then going on to explain her suitability for the job. "I know that I am not the most physical person, but I can take care of myself and I won't be a burden to the team. Sir.", she said, shifting then in her chair in a most most 'un-councellor'ish' way. The Captain nodded accordingly. "I am sure that you would not be, Ensign. However, the away team members have already been chosen and I see no real reason to change my decision, or indeed add to it", he said. "The mission will be a dangerous one. I do not want to risk any more personnel than I have to", he added. (Reply Caras) NRPG: Room for more here... RPG: The Captain pondered the Councellors argument. It was not without some validity but in truth he himself had some telepathic abilities courtesy of his Betazoid half, so in essense, there would be a telepath amongst them after all. "What do you think that you, specifically would bring to the mission, Ensign?", he asked. "I would need more than just, 'We need a telepath', in order to consider your request" (Reply Caras) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - COUNS Elani Caras - 14:12) "I am sure that you would not be, Ensign. However, the away team members have already been chosen and I see no real reason to change my decision, or indeed add to it", he said. "The mission will be a dangerous one. I do not want to risk any more personnel than I have to", he added. She thought a moment. "Well, there is a certain amount of people that you have to take along with you. However, dangerous missions are part of being in the Starfleet. You learn and grow in dangerous missions, by doing them as well. So while it is true that I lack some of the skills necessary, I am convinced that the skills that I acquire will come in need in the future." She was well aware of her issues and short-comings. She was also very aware of her strengths. She looks outside at the stars for a moment. "You might call this Betazoid intuition, or a woman's mutterings but there is something that is just off feeling about the mission. I think that a telepath is badly needed on the party and I think I'm the only one who would have no other purpose than to see to our safety." She sighs and listens. "What do I bring to the mission? I have language skills, credits in xeno-psych, emergency medical credits from the academy and I play a mean hand of poker. I know how to drink and serve cardassian drinks, I am skilled at body language, passive empathy and diplomacy. May the Goddess watch over us, but if we are caught, someone who can talk us out of trouble would be much better than to have our cover exposed." She leaned back and crossed her ankles again looking out the window. "I know that we don't truly know each other yet, and that you seem to prefer older officers, but I am an asset Captain and as we work together I hope that I can show you so through exemplary service. Also," Ellie paused for a moment, "You want your Counselor to be able to communicate telepathically Sir. And I'm reasonably certain that I can with you." She closed her mouth and then showed her cheeky side, ::Can't I?:: A soft smile played at her lips. She was young, she had attitude, but she was also good if unconventional. Amari Riya - 10:18) Amari glared at her superior officer and did her best to not show her true feelings towards him until after his back was turned and he was departing. She wanted to hiss, to climb a tree and sit at the top of it until she felt safe again. However she did neither of those things and once her Superior had departed her hydroponics Bay, she caught the eye of one of her coworkers who was doing his best not to laugh. "I thought you were going to eat him, Ami. Growl, Hiss, Snarl." Jacobs, a human enlisted technician teased her. "You going through that time Betazoid women get so they have to mate? Because you told him off girl." Amari rolled her eyes heavenwards and shook her head. "He's a putz, but he's an Officer putz and part of the command of this ship, may the Goddess watch over us all. He'll learn in time." She shook her head slightly as if trying to clear the mental cobwebs that were slowing her down. "I doubt a counsellor is going to be able to help me, but it is worth a shot." She yawns loudly, then covers her mouth a bit embarrassed. "Maybe what I really need is another coffee." "You need sickbay more than you need a counsellor Ami. I bet if you were sleeping you wouldn't be so grouchy." Jacobs passed his tricorder over and Ami scanned the details. "Yeah, maybe." She caught herself yawning again. Jacobs stared at her as she inputted some changes to the nutrient mix. "Do it Ami. Sooner rather than later. This isn't good for you." Amari took the coffee handed her and then after two sips promptly threw it right back up again. "Ok Ok. I get it. I'll go at lunch. I certainly don't feel like eating..." Just the thought of food made her nauseated beyond belief. Several minutes later she found herself consumed by a puzzle, ignoring the physical symptoms as she tried out different scenarios to allow her 'wheat' to grown in hydroponics and not soil. It wasn't until her desk chimed lunch did she remember that she needed to go visit sickbay. Another mental growl as she slid off of the stool and headed out towards sickbay. (reply any, none) (posted by Mel :-) (USS Spectre - Deck Nine, Corridor - ACMO, Ensign Keswick Vren - 10:24) Vren watched closely as her personell took over from Lt McKenzie and she started to smile at him and tell him how well he had done right up until the decompression warning sounded. After that she simply thanked him and told him to remove himself. She suddenly had no more time for him and hoped that he did what she suggested. Lt McKenzie, had probably saved her patients life, however there were more serious considerations now. "Understood. I'll head up a deck." Kenny said. He felt slightly guilty leaving them but he knew that he was a fifth wheel now that the medical team had arrived so he realised he'd be better use checking rooms on his way. Vren simply nodded and hoped that the Lt would do what he said he would do. "Good luck Sir. If you get to the Bridge please check for lifesigns on this deck. (reply McKenzie iyw) (Posted by Marilyn) (USS Spectre - Bridge - OPS, Ops Officer – Ensign Robert Smith - 10:33) ~Ow thank goodness that he is okay~ "Do you have anything to add to this discussion, Ensign?" Robert paused for a moment before he turned towards the Captain. The Captain was not in a happy mood which fair to say was not surprising but he did not want to add to anything more then he could. “Um Captain. I have been in contact with engineer smith on deck 9. We came to the conclusion that opening the access hatches from an adjacent deck would equalise the pressure and solve the problem. Before we could do this someone else I guess had the same idea but used the phaser instead.” He paused as he looked at the console again. “The environmentals on deck nine are now back to normal and any casualties are being transferred to sickbay. Engineer Smith is going to see what the situation with the phaser blast and will report back with an up date sir.” He paused again hoping that he had said the right thing as the captain not in a happy mood and was definitely not some one that he wanted to unset more. (Reply T’Vhor) (Reply T’Vhor, any) (Posed by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Corridor, Deck 9 – ACMO Ensign (jg) Keswick Vren - 10:34) Ensign Ktell had been speaking to her but to be honest Vren had been only paying minimal attention right up until the pressure stabilised between the decks and Vren realised that the explosion she had heard moments earlier was his way to stabilise the pressure between decks. Smiling to herself she nodded her head at her team. The casualty was stabilised enough now to beam him to Sickbay for further treatment. She opened a comm channel to Sickbay and having had her patient beamed there she slumped against the wall and took a deep breath. Not long after that Ensign K'tell turned up. “The controls were sabotaged on Deck 9 but Deck 8 is now providing environmental support for both decks... how is your patient?" Vren grinned up at him. He is on his way to Sickbay thanks to you." Pausing for a moment she smiled up at him. "Thank you, you not only saved our patient but us as well." Walking towards them, he stated, “I’m going to assume that one of you gentlemen was responsible for that noise a few minutes ago?” Nodding, Harrison said, “So tell me, what can I do to be of assistance here. This deck began to depressurise and I want to make sure that all my team are fine before we head back. He was heading towards the phaser damage as he came around the corner he saw Ensign Walker and Dr Vren in heated discussion over a group of people one who looked like they were injured. And then where the numpty phasered so that I can get a patch on it before someone falls through it.” (Reply Vren, any) (Posed by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Corridor, Deck 9 – ACMO, Ensign (jg) Keswick Vren - 10:46) For a deck that was supposed to be off limits Vren's position seemed be be getting a little crowded. But since she had already sent her casualty off to Sickbay Vren didn't really care. ~Come one come all.~ she thought. Just as soon as one person had left a new one appeared. “Would someone mind pointing out the numpty who phasered the bulkhead? And then where the numpty phasered so that I can get a patch on it before someone falls through it.” Vren smiled for the first time in what was turning out to be a bad day and pointed towards K'Tell. "I believe Ensign Smith that this is the 'numpty' that you are looking for. I think he might be your boss. Good luck with that." Vren didn't bother to tell Smith that she knew exactly what a numpty was. Her godnmother, Commander Caskie had used the saying often enough that Vren knew exactly what it meant. Finally hauling herself off the floor she smiled at everyone. "Well boys and girls, I wish I could say it has been fun, but I won't. K'Tell, thank you for your prompt assistance. It was much appreciated. Ensign Smith, good luck. I think you might need it. This deck is all yours. Have fun." (Reply K'Tell) (Reply K'Tell, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Sickbay – CO, Captain T'Vhor – 11:19) The Captain had felt the need to see for himself the effects of their saboteurs meddling on his ship, and after visiting deck's Nine and Eight, he had immediately headed for sickbay to check out the lives that had been affected most directly. Someone had been stabbed! There had been phasor fire also, and whilst that had been tracked to the CEO himself and had actually resulted in an end to the risk of loss of one entire deck, it still troubled him that things had got this far... The CMO had attended those wounded with the help of his doctors and nurses, and for the moment anyway the ship appeared to be relatively calm again, although still at silent alert of course. Moving towards the sickbay doors, one of the security officers, Ensign Harrison made contact with what might be more promising news. =/\=Ensign Walker to Captain T’vhor.=/\ The Captain acknowledged immediately... "Go ahead Ensign" =/\=Sir, I might be onto something here. I’ve managed to locate the console used to crash the environmental systems on Deck 9. I might be able to pull up something to help identify the person responsible=/\= T'Vhor wasted no time with an answer, as clipped as ever it was despite the intonation borne of his Vulcan heritage. "Then please do so, Ensign", he said, already heading out and into the corridor before speaking again. "Our saboteur is shrewed Ensign Harrison, he will have made all effort to cover his tracks through our ODN network. Be sure to access any historical logs that may have been scrubbed or attempted to be scrubbed. It's a long shot but we may get lucky", he added, entering then into turbolift two and giving the command for the bridge. =/\=Yes, Sir. I’ll take a look and will update you as soon as I can.=/\=, came the reply, and the comms closed. (Reply None, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Security centre – TAC/ASC Ensign JG Harrison Walker – 11:21) After assisting the Doctor with his patient, Harrison had headed back to the security centre. Something was tweaking at his brain. He knew that the decompression of the two decks had something to do with the saboteur but now he had to prove it. Sitting at the console, he began to look through all the computer systems linked with the environmental controls to see if there was any trail to follow. Any way for them to trace back the console that had been used to access the environmental systems and cause their current problem. Suddenly, the computer beeped to announce the scan he had run was finished. Looking at the results, he smiled and thought ~Now we’re getting somewhere.~ Standing, he tapped his combadge and said, “Ensign Walker to Captain T’vor.” (Reply T’vhor) “Sir, I might be onto something here. I’ve managed to locate the console used to crash the environmental systems on Deck 9. I’ll take a look and will update you as soon as I can.” (Reply T’vhor) (Posted by Jaclyn) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 11:23) Exiting the turbolift and stepping onto the bridge, the Captain immediately gave orders to the Tactical officer to liase with Ensign Harrison as required, and to set locks on all primary accesses to the ODN network that might involve further file deletion or tampering. He then acceeded to the FO as she stood and moved across to her own chair, the Captain re-occupying the centre one as she did so. "It would seem that we may have found a breadcrumb trail Commander", he said turning to Hoshimi. (Reply Hoshimi) The Captain nodded, and then began running calculations via his armrest console as the bridge crew continued on with their respective tasks. "I have placed alerts to all low level ODN queries sir", said the Tactical officer, "if anyone tries to scrutinize and alter our files. We'll be notified" The Captain acknowledged that accordingly and then he continued with his calculations up until he received another communication from Harrision. =/\=Ensign Walker to Captain T’vhor.=/\= "Go ahead", said the Captain, hoping now that the promptness of Harrisons contact might have meant that the breadcrumb trail had perhaps grown stronger. =/\=Sir, I think I’m definitely onto something here...=/\= "Please continue", said the Captain as he settled back into his seat and then waited for the response. And waited. And waited... "Ensign?", said the Captain, "is everything..." His own words though faltered to the sound of scuffling. Then suddenly, Harrison responded, albeit in a manner that suggested something was most definitely amiss! =/\=Sir, help...=/\= "Security to deck Nine, environmental control!", he ordered. "Transporter room, lock onto Ensign Harrisons combadge signal and beam him, and anyone in contact with him or within a few metres to a secure holding cell", he added, standing now and then heading back to the turbolift. "You have the bridge Commander", he stated, without actually looking back as he stepped through the opened doors and then turned about. "Security", he stated, and the doors closed, the lift descending... (Reply Hoshimi, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Deck 9, Environmental Control – TAC/ASC Ensign JG Harrison Walker – 11:30) After reaching the console that had malfunctioned, Harrison began his second scan of the day. Then, a thought entered his head, ~If this were me and I was trying to sabotage this system, I wouldn’t use this console. That would be too obvious.~ Turning to the console next to Environmental control, he began tapping away and, soon enough, smiled widely. ~This person is not as bright as they thought.~ he thought to himself as he tapped his combadge and said, “Ensign Walker to Captain T’vor.” (Reply T’vhor) “Sir, I think I’m definitely onto something here..” he paused as he saw a reflection on the console he was using. Something in the back of his mind told him that this was too much of a coincidence and that he was staring at the saboteur. Closing his eyes a brief second, he began to turn and then felt a a tremendous pain creep through his back. (Reply T’vhor) Opening his mouth to try and speak, Harrison found no words would come out. He stretched his arm and felt the wetness on his back. Bringing his hand to his field of vision, he saw red. Then he became aware that the person was still there. Collapsing onto the floor, he groaned heavily and said, “Sir, help…” but no more words would escape his mouth as the figure stood over him, swung their arm down and his vision went black. (Reply T’vhor, Any) (Posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Spectre – Security – CO, Captain T'Vhor and TAC/SC Kerge – 11:31) The Captain had wasted no time in getting to security, a detail of security officers already milling about in the holding section upon his arrival, a somewhat disgruntled Klingon standing over them and looking none too pleased that they had apparently failed to snag their prey. "How did he get away, how can that be?", he growled to no one in particular as he glanced into the holding cell at a dazed and confused, Harrison, who was already being attended to by one of the medics that had by then been called to assist. "Sir, I don't know. The transporter chief reported a lock on two, and then one just.... dissolved. Sir", said one of the security officers. Kerge took a deep breath and then exhaled heavily. "Dissolved?", he inquired. "Sir, I...", began the security officer, just as the Captain appeared at their sides. "A pattern scrambler", offered the Captain. "It's the only possibility" The security officer's brow furrowed, his thoughts clearly on the suggestion now. "It could have been, Sir", he offered. "We may yet still find a trace via the ships transport logs" The Captaain nodded. The explanation though had not appeased the Klingon who's very honour here, it would seem, was being put to the test now. This was not the first time that this, 'fly in their ointment' had evaded them, and the fact that he had been able to do so on a Starfleet vessel under his watch seemed beyond him. Kerge looked to be almost on the point of bursting at the very notion of that, he had the scent of his prey in his nostrils and the fact that 'that' prey was not here right now in the holding cell with the unfortunate Harrison, did little more that antagonise him even further. "I will find this man, Captain", he said turning to T'Vhor. "If it is the last thing that I do, I WILL find him" The Captain pondered briefly. He was sure that the Klingon was right, his own experiences with him told him that little escaped the Security chief when he set his mind to getting something done. Glancing into the holding cell at Harrison he then walked in to stand beside the bunk and crouching down at the mans side, the medic making space now but still maintaining a close watch on his patients vitals. "Ensign", said the Captain, his voice calm now. "Is there anything you can tell us about who this person might be? Did you see him? Perhaps you noted the department that they came from via the colour of a uniform? A rank maybe?", he added, logically deducing now that the only way this 'saboteur' of theirs could realistically move around the ship with ease, would be if they were apparently a crewmember. (Reply Harrison) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Security – TAC/ASC, Ensign JG Harrison Walker – 11:32) The medic that was attending to him had stopped the bleeding from the wound on his back and had tried to tell him what he needed to do once in sickbay but the news wasn’t sticking in his brain. All he could hear was the noise of the person walking towards him and the sound of whatever it was that had hit his head, slicing through the air. Closing his eyes for a brief moment, Harrison took a deep breath to try and clear his mind. He tried to focus on what had happened but the memory was hazy. Suddenly, a voice entered his ear. A voice he recognised, "Ensign, Is there anything you can tell us about who this person might be? Did you see him? Perhaps you noted the department that they came from via the colour of a uniform? A rank maybe?" Harrison, gingerly, opened his eyes and slowly turned his head to see the Captain by his side. A small smile crept across his face as he said, “Wow, it must be serious if you’re here, Sir.” (Reply T’Vhor) Coughing, Harrison took a breath and replied, “I’m not sure, Sir, how much I can tell you. It all happened so fast.” He paused a moment as an image flashed into his mind. The shadowy figure that had shown up as a reflection on the console infront of him slowly became more and more focused. (Reply T’Vhor) “He was tall, 6 foot maybe. Dark hair. I didn’t…. I couldn’t see his face, Sir. I’m sorry….” He paused as the image became more focused. (Reply T’Vhor) ~There it is, the colour, the colour and rank of the uniform. Now, remember this, Harrison. Remember it.~ he thought to himself as the Captain spoke. Once finished, Harrison said, “Sir, there is one thing.” (Reply T’Vhor) “I remember the colour of the uniform. The rank. I can remember it.” He could feel an almost panic like feeling, rising in his mind. A feeling he hadn’t had since his parents had passed away. (Reply T’Vhor) Closing his eyes, he fought to keep the image to the forefront of his mind as he replied, “Sir, the uniform was like mine. But the rank, the rank was…. It was….” A fresh harsh cough flew through him and then he continued, “…. Lieutenant. I’m certain of it.” (Reply T’Vhor, any) (Posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Spectre – Security – CO, Captain T'Vhor – 11:34) Harrison, had still been dazed by the attack he had just suffered and his response had not been immediate when the Captain had quizzed him, he had simply opened his eyes and then turned to look into the face of the CO, a look of familiarity spreading across his lips to the accompaniment of a smile. “Wow, it must be serious if you’re here, Sir.”,he said The Captain quirked his head to one side, the characteristic Vulcan eyebrow twitch in evidence as the security officer spoke. "You sustained a serious injury, Ensign. I would say that that was serious in itself", said the Captain, as Harrison closed his eyes, apparently deep in thought. Then he opened them again and answered the Captains query as best he was able. “I’m not sure, Sir, how much I can tell you. It all happened so fast.” The Captain nodded appropriately. "Take your time Ensign, anything that you might remember might possibly help us to apprehend this person before they can do anymore damage", he said. Harrison began again, a few skant details clearly surfacing within his mind now. “He was tall, 6 foot maybe. Dark hair. I didn’t…. I couldn’t see his face, Sir. I’m sorry….”, said Harrison, confused now but obviously trying to recall more and more of the event that had just occurred. "At least we know that the assailant was tall and dark haired", answered the Captain. "That surely narrows our search parameters somewhat". Harrison then spoke again, something else apparently coming to the fore. “Sir, there is one thing.” "Yes", said the Captain, hopefully. “I remember the colour of the uniform. The rank. I can remember it.”, said Harrison, clearly on edge now as whatever it was in his mind began to take shape. The Captain placed a hand on the mans shoulder as though to bolster the clarity of the image that he was now seeing. Briefly, he pondered the efficacy of a mind meld, but for now anyway he felt it best to let Harrison proceed without his CO walking through the innermost reaches of his mind. "See the uniform", said the Captain, "See the colour, the rank pins" Harrisons response then was almost immediate, the image obviously clarifying now in his memory and taking shape. “Sir, the uniform was like mine. But the rank, the rank was…. It was…. Lieutenant. I’m certain of it.”, he spurted. "You're absolutely sure that it was a Lieutenant?", asked the Captain, his own mind racing at the possibilities now. A security officer would indeed be best placed to circumvent any attempts that the crew made to apprehend him, to give him the edge so to speak and to keep him one step ahead. (Reply Harrison) "Very good, Ensign. Good work. We will have you transferred to sickbay where you can recouperate", said T'Vhor as he then turned to Kerge, who had been standing nearby and taking in everything that had been said. Moving off away from the others, the Captain ushered the big Klingon to follow, then once they were out of earshot, he began speaking. "Does this description match anyone in your department, Lieutenant?", he asked. (Reply Kerge, Harrison, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Security – TAC/ASC, Ensign JG Harrison Walker – 11:36) "You're absolutely sure that it was a Lieutenant?", asked the Captain. Harrison nodded and said, “As much as I can remember, yes. Sir, I am positive.” "Very good, Ensign. Good work. We will have you transferred to sickbay where you can recuperate", the Captain replied and Harrison nodded slowly as the Captain turned to talk to Lieutenant Kerge. Sighing, Harrison allowed his eyes to close as the bright blue of a transport took him. (Reply, Any, None) (Posted by Jaclyn Smith) (USS Spectre – Security – TAC/SC, Lt Kerge and CO, Captain T'Vhor – 11:37) Kerge took a deep breath in, contemplating the individual members of his staff as he did so. Most he knew reasonably well, indeed he had served with a good many of them even before this tour of duty. Men he trusted, men that he could see no possible reason for even remotely contemplating bringing harm to any member of the crew, let alone damaging the ship. It seemed preposterous, and yet... it was possible. "How do we know that this person was not simply wearing a security uniform bearing a Lieutenants rank?", he asked. "He could still be anyone and this gives us nothing more than the intruders height and hair colour, Sir", he offered. The Captain could only agree on that point, but nevertheless, it was still all that they had to go on. "However", added Kerge, seemingly reluctant now to even stoop to accuse or even point the finger at any of his own men. "Lieutenant De'Marge is tall, and with dark hair. As are Lieutenants Farrow and Pretorius" The Captain pondered those three names, running them around in his mind and visualising each of them in turn. He knew of all of them, they were men of good character, or so it would seem. One of them though might be their sabotuer and they certainly did not have the luxury of time right now to play softly softly catchy monkey! "Interview all three Lieutenant", said the Captain, "find out where they were at the times of the attack, and if possible corrolate those statements with the reported locations of their combadges in order to verify what they may say.", he added. "Yes, Sir", said Kerge, "but that still does not rule out the possibility that...", he added, the Captain cutting him off mid-sentence. "I am fully aware that this person may indeed be leading us on a wild goose chase, Lieutenant, and that our target may not even be a security officer. But for now anyway, it's all that we have", he added. "Aye, Sir", said Kerge, his manner belying a certain unease at the task ahead of him now. The Captain was right though, irrespective of the fact that the uniform and rank pins may just be a ruse, it was indeed all that they had to go on. "Keep me updated", said the Captain, turning then and heading out into the corridor en route back to the bridge. "This man must be found... before he does any more damage to this ship or crew", he added, and then disappeared around the corner in haste. Kerge looked back into his domain with a heavy heart, the thought of Pretorius, Farrow and De'Marge's reactions to a possible accusation not being something that he looked forwards to with any kind of relish. But it had to be done... (Reply None, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Sickbay – TAC/ASC, Ensign JG Harrison Walker – 12:04) Lights. (Reply Walker, McKenzie) (Posted by Marilyn) (USS Spectre - Deck 12, Matter/Antimatter storage - Engineer, Lt Norman Bates and TAC/SC, Lt Kerge - 13:21) Norman worked in a manner that belied his underlying awkwardness and shielded his apparent ineptitude when working around others. In truth, he worked best alone, as it was though the Klingon TAC/SC was at his side, his own gaze fixed upon the flashing lights that had by then begun to illuminate on the engineers readout as he held the modified scanner in his right hand, calibrated as it was in a non standard fashion that most engineers would probably not make head nor tail of. "What does that mean?", asked Kerge. Bates raised his eyebrows and then took a deep breath inwards before turning towards the imposing security chief. It was strange really but Norman felt far more comfortable in the company of other races than he did his own. Perhaps that was because their cultures, in particular their ideas of entertainment, were so different. Either way, Bates felt more at ease in the Klingons presense, irrespective of the fact that most did not! "It means that I am detecting a variation in the atomic differential at the molecular level between two phased offsets of the matter/antimatter flow vessels", said Norman. "Something is not right here", he added, a frown appearing on his face as he dialed in another set of variables onto his scanner in order to scrutinize this 'anomoly' further. Kerge stood up straight in response and then scratched at his thick, tousled mane. "Give me that in Klingon", he snapped, "or at least in terms that I might understand" Bates sighed, something that few officers felt comfortable doing in the presense of Lt Kerge. Then he moved off down the corridor with the curious security chief in tow. "Lieutenant?", said Kerge, somewhat impatiently. "Does this mean that we are any closer to finding our saboteur?", he asked expectantly. With the Captain having urged a result sooner rather than later, Kerge was somewhat eager to make some headway now, if only to save his own apparent failing in regards the earlier attacks to two of their crew. Bates remained quiet, his fingers dancing across the panel of the handheld scanner as he took more readings from the nearby containment vessels. Kerge grew impatient and then changed tact, feeling that he wasn't quite getting through to the engineers better side. "Why do your fellow crewmates belittle you so, Lieutenant?", he asked, and all at once Normans demeanor changed, his stance shifting as his attention faltered in response to the somewhat unexpected change in the Klingons approach. "It's, it's not something that I like to talk about, sir", said Norman, "I would much rather try and find a solution to our, our problem. The Captain has ordered... umm, a prompt solution, would it not be better if we... followed those orders?", he said, stammering his words a little now as he became less focused on the task at hand. "This is true", said Kerge, "but I have noted many times since I came back on board that you suffer the brunt of others jokes and sideswipes. You should stand up and challenge these people. Confront them head on, break their skulls if need be. This is the way that a Klingon deals with such stupidity. It is our way" Bates quirked his head and then lowered his scanner before turning towards Kerge, head bowed, the awkward manner that he normally showed once again in evidence as his professional aire fell. "But, but I am not Klingon", he said, "and it is not my way" Kerge grunted and then shrugged his shoulders with a sigh. "That much is obvious", he stated, emphatically, "but there is no reason why you cannot learn to be more.... forthright in your approach to those PetaQ. If you continue in your present manner then they will NEVER relent" Bates turned away, the scanner rising towards his gaze once again as he began reading off the subsequent anomolous readings. "There is an approximately .03 degree error in the expected reading of the containment field", said Bates, changing the subject now, "but the error is not in this vicinity. What I am reading now is secondary to a primary anomoly nearby" Kerge's ears pricked up. An anomoly? Or was it something more contrived? "Could it be the result of some form of deliberate tampering?", he asked. Bates nodded... "Could be, I would need to take further readings at the intermix chamber", he said. "Indications are that it is upstream of our present location, something interfering with the atomic makeup of the matter stream at an infinitesimally small juncture, but if it is trigered into anything bigger then it might just shut down power to all of our systems", he added. "But... but that would mean we would lose the phased cloak!", exclaimed Kerge, the sheer mention of that causing him no end of concern. Norman nodded accordingly. "Yes, it could. But then we cannot allow that to happen. It would mean certain discovery whilst we are still in Cardassian space", he said. Kerge shook his head and then glanced at the ever changing readout on the engineers scanner once again. "Then I suggest we do not allow that to happen", he answered. "Shall we proceed to the intermix chamber?" Bates nodded, cautiously and then moved away from the bulkhead he had been taking readouts from, then he extended a hand down the corridor. "After you sir", he said... (Reply None, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CSO, lt jg. The reptilian woman looked less than interested. "Right. One Kanar." He said straightening his posture. The woman turned in a huff and walked off. Kurt found himself in quite the predicament. When the woman was out of listening range he inconspicuously tapped his concealed commbadge and whispered for the captain. He is so drunk that he would not remember anything any way.” He tried to turn to get a better look at the woman but was rewarded by a hard jab in the back. “That’s very nice of you.” Noah heard the drunkard speak but this time there was no slur in his voice. He suddenly shifted his weight and dropped Noah on to the ground. ~Ow crap. He was a plant. Dam it~ Noah rolled over to get a good look at his would be attackers. They both wore civilian clothing which he had seen since the away team beamed down. His eyes fixed onto the Cardassian phaser the woman had in her hand. “What do you want?” He looked at the man as he spoke. “What do you have?” ~You just made it so much easier~ Noah forced a hint of fear into his voice as he spoke. “Nothing I have my personal things and a healing kit but that is all.” The woman growled. “You are lying. Noah moved at the same time. His hands grabbed the man’s kick as it hit his stomach deflecting most of the power and his foot connected with the woman’s leg which was when he retaliated. In the past when Noah was hunting down the pirate and smuggler Captain Black, he had spent many hours practicing his natural ability to generate and discharge powerful currents of electricity. As he touched the two would be muggers he discharged the electricity that he had been slowly generating since he had first surprised. They both froze as all their muscles tensed due to the current and then they both crumpled onto a heap on the floor with out making a sound. Noah quickly looked around him to make sure no one has seen what had happened. The two muggers had chosen well as their would be attaching spot was quite and out of the way. He quickly checked their pulses and that they were both breathing before he quickly and quietly moved them behind a large rubbish dispenser. It would have been easy for him to have stopped both their hearts but that would go against every thing he now stood for. She had heard several rumors, firstly that there were still Jem’hadar in the Alpha quadrant, a sect called the True Way, a combination of Cardassian’s who had become embittered after the war and banded together with a few Jem’hadar, Vortas and even a founder or two and were committing pirate acts in the Alpha quadrant, Ilana however had seen no proof positive of this and speculated that it might be propaganda. The more startling rumor she had heard was that people were now using the white as a drug, refined the chemicals were supposed to be quite stimulating. She had once seen the work of a doctor based on one of the deep space stations on Ketracel White, she noted that if he had started his work only a few years later he could quite possibly have resolved the unique replication properties of the white. Finally sighing she walked over to a small bar, it was a little of the main street but what had attracted her to the place was the sound of earth Jazz coming from within. She stood at the doorway shocked as she saw a small group of human civilians up on stage playing music. She glanced around looking at the other patrons, all Cardassian but they seemed not too bothered by the presence of non-cardassian’s. She paused perhaps her view of the Xenophobic tendency’s of Cardassian’s had been wrong. She moved to the bar cautiously, “Er… Hello.” She paused and nodded towards the stage. The large stocky Cardassian barman snorted and responded, “That’s just Loth and his friends he’s lived here for a few years, he’s harmless, what can I get you.” “What is he playing?” ilana asked feigning ignorance, “Something called Earth Jazz, It takes a bit to get used to.” At this moment another human looking person got up on stage, and started to play, while a first older human sat down looking exhausted a third human poured him what looked suspiciously like romulan ale. Ilana paused, “Could you point me to the public convenience?” She asked the barman, he nodded towards the back room. Ilana made her way to the back room, and pulled out her communicator, she wondered if it would be ok to make a public call, probably not it might alert anyone that the captain might be with. So she chose to send a worded message through the communicator that he might be able to pick up, -Located, 3 humans in a bar named K’trall’s just outside the city centre, they appear to be accepted in the city could be contact? - She forwarded the message to the rest of the away team. The music had started up again, he looked around to find its source, and found himself making eye contact with one of the musicians. He felt an odd sense of familiarity, the man winked back. Startled, Kurt immediately broke eye contact, forced a sip of kanar and glanced the other direction. ~who is that...~ (Reply, any) ((Post by Cody)) (USS Spectre - Deck 2 Corridor - ACMO, Dr. Michaella Kirien - 16:12) Her headache had finally worn off, as had the telepathic suppressors she had needed during the last bout of it. She rubbed her aching temples, then ducked into a conference room to star gaze. She wasn't entirely sure what the mission had been about, she didn't seem to pay a lot of attention to her work during these bouts, and at the best of times she was a little out of the loop of the ship. Starships were rumormills worse than old women back on Earth, or so she had heard. The last time Michaella had been on Earth she hadn't had a lot of time to be a tourist as she was taking the intensive course to actually 'earn' her rank. She rubbed her forehead again, something was bothering her. Something very familiar. She looked out the window then froze as a familiar mind brushed hers. Michaella turned and ran for the Bridge, praying she was wrong but knowing she was right. She almost tripped over her own feet as she tumbled out of the turbolift. "Who is in command?" She asked looking around the bridge nervously. She didn't like being on the Bridge at the best of times. She didn't belong here. Her thoughts narrowed in focus and she sent one thought directly at Riven. ::Who are you seducing on the planet, Priest?:: A touch of levity to her voice, followed by a memory of the two of the in the Temple. ::Last time I heard from you, you were giving Straton grey hairs. Move on to bigger conquests?:: Michaella couldn't help the smile that came to her features. Riven was home to her. He was the temple she was raised in. She could have been a Priestess like her mom but had chosen not to do so (Reply Riven, Any on bridge) (posted by Mel :-) (Amleth - Amparus,Corvus District - Acouns Dr. Riven Mias - 16:15) The tune was winding down towards its finale thankfully, there was so much to do yet. Riven had been lost in it with eyes closed, relishing the haunting music. His eyes suddenly popped open in surprise as the touch of a familiar mind broke his reverie and forced a sour note of shock from him. He tried and failed to pick up the thread due to his distraction and abruptly stopped playing, the link he had with Loth had been completely lost. He lowered the oboe and turned back toward the bar and had just enough time to register the fact Lt. Gerald had his head lowered to his arms upon the bar when telepathic contact was established, he almost froze in shock but forced his body to drop into the chair and his hand to pick up the cup of Romulan ale as it solidified. ::Who are you seducing on the planet, Priest?:: He almost laughed with the sheer joy of the familiar contact, so an old friend of his from Betazed was on the Spectre! ::Michaella! I can't express the pleasure I'm feeling at hearing from you!:: So instead he allowed it to travel down the thread of the telepathic contact as his smile was buried in the cup. ::No time for seduction unfortunately, I've been a bit busy.:: The memories she projected were imminently pleasurable in counterpoint to the last time he had seen her on the Nimitz. At that time he had been hard pressed to comfort her due to her infatuation with Sash which had not been reciprocated. His vision kept trying to turn inward but he forced himself to remain aware of his surroundings just in case, like the bartender K'trall moving back toward him. Riven nodded and lowered his cup. "Give me another." he felt like celebrating. K'trall nodded and was drawing another as she replied. ::Last time I heard from you, you were giving Straton grey hairs. Move on to bigger conquests?:: He chuckled at that one, K'trall gave him a look of disinterest and slapped the cup down in front of him then turned to another patron which allowed his smile free rein. He picked up the cup as he replied. ::Eva and I got along as well as can be expected, I was only there for a short while then returned to the temple.:: His mood took a downturn for an instant. The Hades had essentially lost two captains in a short span. He purposely skipped mentioning Devan's demise although she had no doubt heard of it long ago. ::She's a bit of the aggressive type but nothing I couldn't handle.:: He also had suspicions about her which he wouldn't share as he had no evidence. ::How did you come to be on the Spectre?:: (reply: Michaella) ::I'm glad you're there, I've found the officer I contacted after the away team beamed down but haven't had a chance to speak with him yet. I've got two others here who would like to see your ship.:: The smile hid in his cup once again evident to her through the emotional component of the link. (Reply: Michaella) ::Just what IS the Spectre doing here if you don't mind my asking?:: He sent a mental laugh of relief at the ship's nearness in his time of need. (Reply: Michaella) (Posted by Charles) (USS Spectre - Bridge - ACMO, Dr. Michaella Kirien - 16:17) The connection between the two telepaths strengthened and grew firmer. Michaella found herself grinning in sheer joy. She couldn't say she was surprised that he and Straton weren't the closest of friends. Michaella had met Straton on a few occasions, none of which were social. ::How did you come to be on the Spectre?:: A sadness tinged her thoughts, ::Devan. He had me transferred away from the 'bad memories'. I think he was upset with me after I told him that I loved him.:: The memories were still intense even several years later. ::So there was a research position open here and I took it. The girls wanted away from the Nimitz as well. Gabriella is on Earth at Starfleet Academy and Elizabeth is doing a two year apprenticeship with a friend on a freighter. Last I heard both were happy.:: A pause. :: Hard to believe that I'm old enough to have both of them as an adult...:: Another pause as she listens. ::I'm glad you're there, I've found the officer I contacted after the away team beamed down but haven't had a chance to speak with him yet. I've got two others here who would like to see your ship.:: "Two others?" She spoke out loud. ::Riven two other Starfleet Officers?:: (reply Riven, people on bridge if you like :-) ::Just what IS the Spectre doing here if you don't mind my asking?:: He sent a mental laugh of relief at the ship's nearness in his time of need. ::Honestly, I'm not sure. I'm in Medical Research here, Riven. They don't actually tell the peons starfleet secrets.:: Another pause, ::I think one of our counsellors is on the planet. Her name is Eleni and T'Vhor is half Betazoid. You should be able to reach either of them easily. I'm honesty not sure what good I can do you up here. Is there anything I should know?:: Michaella found herself pacing back and forth, so she sat down heavily in the Counsellor's chair and waited. She found herself anxious, it would be good to see Riven again. (reply those on bridge, Riven) (posted by Mel :-) (Amleth - Amparus,Corvus District - Acouns Dr. Riven Mias - 16:19) ::Riven two other Starfleet Officers?:: ::One SFI officer and a human civilian.:: Riven replied. ::I have some suspicions about his health. He's helping us and fears for his safety should his assistance be found out and I agree with that asssessment.:: ::Just what IS the Spectre doing here if you don't mind my asking?:: He sent a mental laugh of relief at the ship's nearness in his time of need. ::Honestly, I'm not sure. Is there anything I should know?:: ::Only that I'm likely stuck here if the Spectre can't get me off. The scenery is a bit drab and the locals not much for conversation so I'd certainly go insane if I had to stay.:: Riven sent a mental laugh. ::Not to mention the local military won't be pleased if they find me here.:: (Reply: Michaella) ::I'd better get to Lt. If you need any more information you can contact me later or I will see you when I get to the ship and we can discuss old times.:: (Reply: Michaella) Riven broke contact and caught K'Trall's attention as he set down his cup. "Want something else?" K'Trall eyed his cup as he walked up and noticed it was still mostly full. "Yes, another glass. I just noticed an old friend sitting in the audience and want to surprise him." Riven gave him a grin that didn't phase the Cardassian. He counted out the coins that would pay his tab as K'Trall was pouring the Romulan ale and noted his cache was nearly gone which was fine, his last glass was more than enough to last him. It was fortunate he had eaten that sandwich earlier as the food diluted the effects of the alcohol somewhat, not completely though as he was feeling more than a bit tipsy. He pushed the money at K'Trall as he clapped the glass on the bar, picked both up and turned away. Lt. Gerald was struggling to remain awake so Riven gave him a light kick in the shins to help which elicited a yelp from the man and a sudden glare. Riven winked at him. "You're welcome." Then began whistling as he walked toward the table the officer was sitting at, his sense of equilibrium wasn't at it's best so he used it to his advantage, exaggerating it as he sauntered over. As he neared the table he raised both cups. "Why hello Shard, my old friend." Purposely slurring the words just a bit. "It's been so long since I saw you last I almost didn't recognize you. I brought you a Romulan ale to try. I know you prefer Kanar but you really should try it, it's very good." (Reply: Palmer) Riven dropped into the opposite chair after slapping the cup down before the officer and leaned forward as he rolled his cup in his hands while he mentally initiated contact with the man. ::It's me, it was quite a good stroke of fortune to find you in the same bar I happened into.:: (Reply: Palmer) As he chatted about the fictional Shard's family and mutual friends he kept up the mental conversation. Doing both at the same time was a learned skill which required a lot of practice otherwise it was easy for someone unfamiliar with the skill to speak haltingly, stutter or get the physical and mental components inverted which could be quite bothersome when you were trying to be secretive so he rattled continuously, not giving "Shard" a chance to break in. ::Were you able to contact your Captain? I have an SFI officer with me as I told you earlier and our flute player has been helping us and needs to be picked up as well, he's afraid the Cardys will go ballistic on him if they find out he was helping us and I believe he's correct in his assumption.:: (Reply: Palmer) (Posted by Charles) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CSO lt. jg. Kurt Palmer - 16:21) Kurt surveyed the now quite crowded bar, looking for someone to mingle with, and perhaps gain a little information from. Thus far his efforts had not yielded any useful information. He looked down and slid his kanar between his hands a few times propelling a few drops of over the edge of the cup. ~I don't think I can stand another sip of this~ "Why hello Shard, my old friend." Within the few moments Kurt's eyes had left his surroundings the man whom he had exchanged glances with earlier was now making his way to the table. "It's been so long since I saw you last I almost didn't recognize you. I brought you a Romulan ale to try. I know you prefer Kanar but you really should try it, it's very good." Judging from a few mixed syllables the man had been there for a little while. "Thank you...." Kurt shot him a suspicious glance as the man commandeered the seat across from him. "Do I...." Kurt started ::It's me, it was quite a good stroke of fortune to find you in the same bar I happened into.:: came the voice Kurt had 'heard' earlier. Kurt blinked a few times before resuming character. "Ah, yes. I thought I recognized you. It was since we were last in Lakat?" The disguised chief graciously accepted the drink and shifted to throw his arm over the back of his chair. The strange man rattled on for a while, putting together a perfect storyline. Suddenly Kurt found the stranger in his head once more. ::Were you able to contact your Captain? I have an SFI officer with me as I told you earlier and our flute player has been helping us and needs to be picked up as well, he's afraid the Cardys will go ballistic on him if they find out he was helping us and I believe he's correct in his assumption.:: Kurt took a sip of the blue liquid, and leaned in. "You know the service in these damn bars is terrible. No welcome RECEPTION on the way in, can't get a drink without attitude from your waitress." He paused to take another sip "And I'm only saying this since we're OUT OF RANGE of the bar, but I wont be hasty to return here again. " He was being as clever as he could after a couple kanars. (reply, Riven) Kurt let his mind drift back to his failed attempt to boost his comm signal, he glanced around the room once more, this time realizing ensign Grey had made her way in. He wouldn't say anything yet, to avoid the attention. (reply, Riven, any) ((post by Cody)) (USS Spectre - Bridge - ACMO, Dr. Michaella Kirien - 16:22) ::Only that I'm likely stuck here if the Spectre can't get me off. I'm disappointed in the Temple however. They should safeguard you. :: She was quite adamant about this and was very displeased that the Betazoids had let one of their most treasured gifts put himself into very mortal danger. She was going to write something very scathing to the head of their order when she had the opportunity to do so. ::I'd better get to Lt. Palmer is..:: She knew him vaguely, more of him than him. ::Well, the Betazoids here are representative of our race, so insidious gossips, and he's known to be a self-important. Uhmm.:: She didn't feel safe about that. ::As the second officer he needs work. So be careful please. T'Vhor is the one that you need to count on.:: Michaella turns towards the Officer on duty on the Bridge and makes sure that they know what is going on while on the planet. "I vouch for Dr. Mias. If he is to be believed, he bounced me on his knee and fed me a bottle." She flushes lightly. "On the Nimitz he held a rank similar to mine. He is who he says he is, I assure you." (reply Riven if you chose, any on the bridge) (posted by Mel :-) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - Acouns Dr. Riven Mias - 16:23) The officer took an appreciative sip of the ale and leaned toward Riven. "You know the service in these damn bars is terrible. No welcome RECEPTION on the way in, can't get a drink without attitude from your waitress." He paused to take another sip "And I'm only saying this since we're OUT OF RANGE of the bar, but I wont be hasty to return here again." Riven nodded in comprehension of the accented words, apparently the man wasn't comfortable using mind speech so he slowed down his ramblings in order for him to use coded phrasings is he so chose. Since he was in mind-to-mind contact with him though he caught the mental picture of the officer's failed attempts. He also caught the name Grey and a mental picture of her so he leaned back casually and looked about the tavern, finding her after a moment leaning against the bar then let his gaze casually travel back to his cup. Riven then smiled in satisfaction, if they were going to use this bar as a meeting place it helped his situation immensely. ::No problem, I spoke with one of the officers on the ship whom I know and she will have already reported us to the officer of the watch. I can also contact Elani or your CO since I understand they are telepaths as well. If you would do me the favor of picturing them in your mind it will help. Obviously I won't be able to SEE them with my mind, it's the familiarity you feel with them that will make my searching easier.:: As he waited for the officer to comply he took a small sip from the contents of the cup. (Reply: Palmer) ::Thank you.:: He smacked his lips and reached out with his mind, searching for the mental thread which was T'Vor. A telepath in an unaccustomed situation would be taking one of two actions, either having mental shielding already raised or prepared to snap one into place at an instant's notice so making contact was not guaranteed. Since Riven was at the moment relatively safe in the presence of two of Star Fleet's finest (He didn't count the Intelligence agent in that assessment since he was fighting to keep from passing out) he allowed his eyes to close as he caressed the cup of ale. He passed over many minds as he reached out into the city, finally closing in on the CO of the Spectre. His mind appeared to be heavily disciplined as expected but did not have any mental shielding raised so Riven moved in slowly so as not to startle him. Just jumping into contact would likely cause a counter reaction so the Betazoid moved in closely enough to be acknowledged without pressing. (Reply: T'Vor) So far so good. ::Captain T'Vor I am Dr. Riven Mias, a mind healer from the temple of Alura on Betazed currently attached to an SFI mission which has been accomplished.:: He sent to the CO the memory of the little girl's awakening. ::I am currently in the presence of two of your officers, Palmer and Grey and am in a bit of a pickle, the ship which brought I and my SFI compatriot here is out of contact and possibly destroyed so we need a way off planet. There is also a human civilian who has been helping up who needs to be evacuated.:: (Reply: T'Vor) (Posted by Charles) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CSO lt. jg. Kurt Palmer - 16:24) Kurt pieced together some innuendo to convey the current situation and paired this with an inadvertent flashback. The telepath nodded in acknowledgment, and also seemed to somehow pick up the presence of his colleague in the room. After a momentary silence a reply echoed through Kurt's head. ::No problem:: Dr. Mias explained that he had already contacted the Spectre. ::If you would do me the favor of picturing them in your mind it will help. Obviously I won't be able to SEE them with my mind, it's the familiarity you feel with them that will make my searching easier.:: Kurt concentrated and visualized the moment they all beamed to the surface, as this was the most recent visual he had. Gratitude was projected at Kurt as his new acquaintance closed his eyes, no doubt in an effort to contact the Captian. As a moment lapsed Kurt let his eyes drift around the bar. Finally finding Ensign Grey again, he exchanged an intentionally blank eye contact. (Reply, Grey iyw) His now hindered focus shifted back to the blue ale in front of him. ~Alright, after this you are cut off.~ (Reply, Grey?, any applicable) ((Post by Cody)) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District – Civilian Lotheran Pessoj – 16:24) Having no idea he was being talked about he saw a Cardassian looking person approaching his ‘old friends’ he was glad he was just about to finish his set, he knew his cover story that they had been given was flimsy at best but he had lived here long enough to allay any suspicion, glancing around the bar he noticed another Cardassian glancing in their direction. ‘Damn, must be intelligence services.’ He thought to himself, ‘Going to be difficult to talk my way out of this one.’ He mused. Putting down his flute he took a bow and walked over to the Cardassian standing over Riven, “Excuse me.” He interrupted, “I don’t believe we’ve met, Loth your resident human guest.” He said with a broad smile, “And these are my friends from off world.” He looked the Cardassian up and down, he didn’t look like an intelligence operative, mind you they rarely did, there was something not quite right about his eyes but Loth couldn’t place it, they seemed to lack the clear determination that you often found in cardassian eyes, Loth had always suspected it came from that ‘damn’ conditional education of theirs that gave almost every cardassian an eidetic memory. (reply Palmer, Riven) Loth glanced across at K’tral to curry support. The large Cardassian rumbled over holding a tray, “Hey, leave this human and his friends alone, he’s just a harmless old man and a few of his friends who’ve made the trip to visit him.” K’tral purposefully turned to Loth, “Before he… what’s that human phrase, kicks the bucket?” Loth managed a ragged laugh, “Ha K’tral I’ll be speaking at your funeral before you speak at mine.” “Just do me a favor and leave that flute at home.” The bartender laughed, K’tral moved beside Palmer, “I don’t know you stranger you’re not a regular here, this human is, while he may not be my kin he’s more of a friend to me than you are. I’ll vouch for him, and his friends so don’t bother them as baring people tends to offend.” (Reply Palmer, Riven) (Posted by Jo) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - ACSciO Ensign(jg) Ilana Grey - 16:25) Grey looked around the bar Seeing Kurt Palmer brought relief to her heart, although she had to make two or three surreptitious glances to make sure it was him. Either that or some random cardassian was checking her out. She thought back to her brief study of Cardassian social norms. The usual way for a mate to internate he was interested with you was unreasonable irritability frustration and verbal aggression. She wondered briefly how many social faux-pas’s this had caused. Kurt looked away back to his glass, Ilana walked around the bar slowly, She had an idea, they could pose as Cardassian security agents taking away the three ‘humans’ for questioning, only problem would be if there were actually Cardassian internal security agents present. While the obsidian order no longer existed a lot of the new agency’s were just as efficient. She paused briefly, and sat down to watch the music, she wished she had had some local money to buy a drink otherwise it would appear suspicious her just sitting there. *Either that or I’ll look like some kind of bar room hussy.* She turned and gave Kurt hoping he might walk over and introduce himself, or at least buy her a drink. (reply Kurt?) Ilana listened to the old man on stage playing the flute, when he finally stopped and stepped off stage Ilana could see his hands visibly shaking, clearly exhausted, while he wasn’t a young man he was no where near old enough to be looking that feeble. Her intial guess was he had MS, a illness easily treatable on any federation planet, she glanced around the room, this wasn’t any federation planet, the level of living on Amleth was well below even the most remote of boarder colonies, sometimes it was easy to forget how privileged you were. (Reply Kurt, any?) (Posted by Jo Holt) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CSO lt. jg. Kurt Palmer - 16:25) After exchanging mutually understood eye contact with Ensign Grey's Cardassian visage, Kurt brought his attention back to his ale and pondered how much he had drank since arriving. He looked back to Dr. Mias. The man was currently off in the land of the telepaths, or wherever it is they all went to chat. Even after countless courses on the subject at Star FleetMedical, Kurt couldn't wrap his mind around the concept. The science chief's train of thought was interrupted as his once quiet table was now surrounded by several new faces. “I don’t believe we’ve met, Loth your resident human guest.” One of the men said giving Kurt a once over “And these are my friends from off world." "Shard." The disguised science chief responded "friend of the doctor's" (Reply, Riven?) “Hey, leave this human and his friends alone..." Came a voice from across the bar. Before Kurt could digest the serpent-like speech the stocky bar man from earlier was standing behind Kurt “I don’t know you stranger you’re not a regular here, this human is, while he may not be my kin he’s more of a friend to me than you are. I’ll vouch for him, and his friends so don’t bother them as baring people tends to offend.” Kurt couldn't tell where this exchange was going, so he took the opportunity to greet his colleague at the bar. He raised his hand to wave "Magal" he called, piecing together a Cardassian sounding name. "If you'll excuse me gentlemen..." Kurt raised his scaly eyebrows and bowed out of the conversation. (Reply, any at table) He approached the ensign "Well well, what are you doing in a place like this." Kurt maintained a certain amount of hostility in his words for authenticity. (Reply, Grey) Kurt broke into laughter and gave Grey a hefty pat on the back. "What are you drinking?" He flagged down the closest bartender. (Reply, Riven?, Grey, Any) ((Post by Cody)) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 16:26) All at once, the Captain had become aware of another mind nearby. Probing, seeking, knocking upon the door of his own. It was not an unfamiliar sensation of course, but nonetheless, it had startled him somewhat. He stopped what he had been doing in an instance, the amulet he had been studying suddenly losing it's etheric charm as he placed it carefully back upon the table. "You're not interested then?", asked the woman, curiously. The Captain eyed her briefly as the 'presense' in his mind exerted itself just a little more. "Perhaps later", said T'Vhor, in response to the womans query regarding her wares. "It may be gone by then", she answered, an obvious sales tactic designed to get the customer to buy now rather than risk losing the aquisition entirely. The presence though was now precoccupying the Captain's mind and the charm would wait. With a nod, he moved off into a nearby clearing, his head bowed as he answered the strangely incessent call within his mind. ::Who are you?:: ::Captain T'Vhor. I am Dr. Riven Mias, a mind healer from the temple of Alura on Betazed currently attached to an SFI mission which has been accomplished:: ~A mind healer? Here?~ Thought the Captain, just as a stream of images entered into his consciousness. A small child, a girl. Was she lost? It seemed to make little sense at first but then the images coalesced and solidified and began to take on form. The communication continued on. ::I am currently in the presense of two of your officers, Palmer and Grey and am in a bit of a pickle, the ship which myself and my SFI compatriot arrived here is out of contact and possiibly destroyed so we need a way off planet. There is also a Human civilian who has been helping us who needs to be evacuated:: The Captain paused just for a moment. Was this some form of a trap? Contact with some of the away team members had been unexpectedly interrupted beforehand. Who was this 'Dr Mias'? And more importantly, who was the other civilian he was speaking of demanding passage off of Amleth? Could it possibly be Lau? ::Where are you?:: Enquired the Captain. (Reply Mias) The Captain moved away from the spot that he had been standing, his gaze taking in the small throng of shops nearby, the hustle and bustle of the customers continuing on oblivious to anything that was occuring but the need to procure a bargain at all cost. ::And, who is this other Civilian? What is his name?:: Answered the Vulcan hybrid CO. (Reply Mias) No name at present. That was to be expected... ::I understand. Then we need to meet. Perhaps we may be able to help one another and find a mutually beneficial common ground for all parties:: (Reply Mias) The Captain moved again, this time returning to the store that had held his attention earlier, the amulet still upon the table where he had placed it, unsold. ::I will meet you in Ten minutes at your location:: said the Captain, his own mind now scanning the immediate location for anything that might represent a threat that could feasibly be connected to this 'Dr Mias'. After all, the stakes were high now. The Captain picked up the amulet yet again, the eager seller seemingly keen to make the sale. "I'll tell you what", she said, "you give me Three Leks and the amulet is yours" "Two Leks", said the Captain, "and not One more" The trader sighed and then pushed for Two and a half Leks, but the Captain remained steadfast. "Two", he repeated. The trader scratched her head, her fingernails encrusted with dirt. Then she scrutinised the Captain briefly before finally capitulating. "You have a pleasant face. Market is nearly done for today and I want to get back home to my hut. The amulet is yours", she said, "I hope you enjoy", she said, wrapping the trinket in a small piece of paper and then handing it to the pleasant faced bargain hunter as he in turn, passed her the payment... What is his name?:: A bit of hopeful tinge to this thought perhaps? ::His name is Lotheran I think.:: Riven replied. ::Loth for short, I don't remember his last name.:: ::I understand. Then we need to meet. Perhaps we may be able to help one another and find a mutually beneficial common ground for all parties:: ::That would be an excellent idea.:: Riven smiled as he continued. ::I'll leave my mind open to you so you can follow the thread of my thought. It will be a pleasure to meet you Captain.:: ::I will meet you in Ten minutes at your location:: T'Vor replied, that nagging suspicion still coming through the link. ::Excellent! (Reply: None) (Posted by Charles) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - ACouns Dr. Riven Mias - 16:30) Riven had been aware of some interchange taking place around him while he had been "speaking" with the Captain as a refreshed Loth arrived at the table and was introducing himself. "Shard. Friend of the doctor's" He opened his eyes to find the officer looking at him with a questioning look, unsure whether he would be roused no doubt. Riven looked up at Loth and grinned. "Yes indeed, Shard is the friend I was telling you about earlier Loth, we were just discussing old times." He gave the human a sly wink to remind him of his earlier stated purpose just in case he had forgotten. Loth's presence here brought out a protective friendly streak from K'Trall who began berating what he must have thought were internal security officers, at which point "Shard" decided to bow out of the group and rejoin his comrade Grey. "If you'll excuse me gentlemen..." he looked askance around the table. "Of course, of course Shard." the Betazoid said with a wave of his hand. "By all means. It was good seeing you again." When the officer walked off Riven motioned Loth to sit down with him then spoke softly. "Watch for me, I need to contact someone else." (Reply: Loth iyw) With the center of attention having moved from them and the other patrons returning to their drinks he closed his eyes again and relaxed once more then reached out with his mind to the one Michaella had called Elani and using the thread given him by Lt. Palmer. It didn't take long for him to find her since he had already searched among a number of minds already, as he closed in he noted she was in an agitated state so moved in very carefully while attempting not to frighten her and waited for her to acknowledge him as he had done with T'Vor. (Reply: Elani) ::Elani this is Dr. Riven Mias of Betazed.:: He sent with a comforting touch. ::I've just contacted your Captain and am with two other of your officers. (Reply: Elani) (Posted by Charles) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - Civilian Lotheran Pessoj - 16:32) "Of course, of course Shard." the Betazoid said with a wave of his hand to the Cardassian. "By all means. It was good seeing you again." When the Cardasian walked away Riven gestured at Loth to sit down with him then spoke softly. "Watch for me, I need to contact someone else." Loth looked around slightly worried, this was a safe place but since one Cardassian had already come across and started talk to their group it would probably encourage others. K’trall would deter some inquisitive persons but not all. Loth Glanced across at Riven, ‘contact?’ probably through telepathic means, Loth had never trusted telepaths, he remember the Ullians and their vow never to read someone’s mind without their express permission, valuing themselves as historians, however Loth had since discovered that they had been used to gather evidence of war crimes from the memories, not just of victims but also of the perpetrators, these had then been submitted as evidence despite strong rules that Psi scans couldn’t be used. “K’trall!” Loth called, “Thanks for that.” He said with a smile, “You know for a Cardassian you’ve always been a good friend to me.” Loth said with a weary smile, “Loth, of all the human’s I’ve met you have the most devious mind, and for that I’ve always thought you might be a cardassian under that skin.” “Oh you mean a Cardassian pretending to be a human pretending to be a Cardassian?” Loth laughed, “It wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility” Loth poured himself the remained of the bottle of Romulan Ale, the strong liquor was starting to effect the old human but he managed to keep it together, in his younger days he had been a fair drinker, he had someone tempered his consumption in the last few years but it was like riding a bicycle. Riven seemed to be in a different world probably speaking to someone in his mind, “My friend here can’t hold his drink.” Loth laughed looking at both Riven and the Lieutenant. “K’trall can you take a load off and join me for one?” Loth asked The cardassian seemed to think about it for a moment, “Would be we seem to be busy tonight, maybe tomorrow if your hangover it’s too bad.” K’trall chuckled removing the empty bottle and returning to the bar. Palmer she tried an weak smile, her face still felt uncomfortable around the Cardassian cosmetics. "Well well, what are you doing in a place like this." Palmer asked Ilana looked up at him, “Well I’m listening to the Terran music.” She shrugged with feigned hostility, “It’s no bad if you’ve heard some of it before, nowhere near as good as our music of course.” She shrugged Kurt broke into laughter and gave Grey a hefty pat on the back. "What are you drinking?" He flagged down the closest bartender. Ilana staggered from the impact on her back and looked at the Lt. wondering if it was the same person or if he was just a very good actor, “I’ll have a glass of water.” She said simply, “It wouldn’t do to have my judgment impaired in front of a strange man.” She gave him a look of thinly veiled scorn, while she had been used to her brothers rough housing she hadn’t expected it from a fellow officer. Giving a wicked grin she slapped palmer on the arm, “Aw what the hell get me a glass of Kanar, and one for yourself lets see what your made of.” She gave an inward chuckle, As the barman brought over the glasses she almost knocked hers back in one. Having lived with four brothers sometimes had it’s advantages. She glanced across at possibly Kurt. (Reply Palmer) “Don’t choke on it.” She said with a sly grin. “ (Reply Palmer) (Posted by Jo) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CSO lt. jg. Kurt Palmer - 16:34) Recovering from the impact the disguised ensign replied “I’ll have a glass of water. It wouldn’t do to have my judgment impaired in front of a strange man.” She shot the chief a look before reconsidering “Aw what the hell get me a glass of Kanar, and one for yourself lets see what your made of.” Kurt's stomach turned but he managed to maintain a smile. He drained the remains of his Romulan ale and exchanged his emptied galas for the kanar they had just been served. The ensign seemed to quite like the drink Kurt thought noticing she had just thrown back most of it in one go. ~there's no getting out of this one~ He lifted the glass to his lips and Ilana hastily added “Don’t choke on it." He downed a hefty gulp and managed to get it down without event. ~dear god. I've got to get her on something else.~ "Well if that's a challenge." He scoffed and took another drink. "You're on." It was at this point Kurt noticed his bottom lip had gone numb (Reply, Grey, any) ((Post by Cody)) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District – ACSO, Ensign (Jg) Ilana Grey - 16:37) "Well if that's a challenge. You're on." Kurt said with what Ilana detected as a slight rasp in his voice. She passed her hand over her drink dropping in an antioxidant, she was tempted to slip one into Palmers drink just to help out a senior officer, but then decided to have a small amount of fun and picked up the second shot of Kanar, while not the strongest of drinks it had an extremely sickly sweet flavor and because of the viscosity tended to cling to the throat. Two more shots later Ilana could feel the Antioxidant taking effect and the alcohol was wearing off leaving only a faint glow of warmth but with a clear mind, with one of these pills you could easily almost a barrel of blood wine, a few glasses of Kanar wouldn’t make a dent. She had packed a small supply of them just in case anyone on the team accidently ingested any toxic substances, but it worked nicely against alcohol as well. Finally after seeing Palmer struggle for a bit she reached into her pouch and pulled out one pill. “Would you like one?” She asked with a sly grin. (Reply Palmer) Ilana smirked, “Won’t sober you up but will inhibit the oxidation of other molecules by eliminating any free radicals” She paused and looked around, “Here.” She slipped the pill to his hand. (Reply Palmer,) She sipped her fourth glass of Kanar, the sport out of the situation now she could try to enjoy the drink, although enjoyment wasn’t quite the right word Kanar was too thick and sweet to enjoy fully however without threat of becoming intoxicated. It would take a bit of getting used to. “Fancy something else?” She asked looking at Palmer (Reply Palmer, Any) (Post by Jo) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 16:41) Entering in through the opened doors of the bar, the Captain scanned the room for members of his party. Palmer and Grey were quickly visible over to one side and busy chatting to a robed man with long, grey hair. Instinctively, T'Vhor knew this to be the man whom he had been conversing with earlier via a telepathic link, indeed, the man himself had now turned to glance in the Captains direction, that same connection being clearly felt by both men. The Captain advanced towards them, nodding to his compatriots as he approached before turning his attention to the robed figure. "Dr Mias, I presume?", he said. (Reply Mias, Any) The Captain took a seat and then awaited the Councellors further input on the specifics he had discussed via their earlier contact whilst inwardlt hoping that something might be revealed regarding Lau in the process. (Reply Mias, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - ACouns Dr, Riven Mias - 16:42) Palmer and Grey had been chatting it up since "Shard had left the table and Riven had finished 'speaking ' with Elani some while ago so Riven had been chatting with Loth as he nursed the viscuous blue fluid in his cup, nursing it to keep from getting drunk obviously. Every so often he looked over to check on the condition of Lt. Gerald who it seemed had come out of the worst of his nodding off and had moved to a table nearby as he fiddled with the instrument case Loth had given him, most likely out of nervousness. Riven had gotten up at one point and let him know he was expecting important company to be arriving. As he killed time he could feel T'Vhor getting closer so it was no shock when the door to the tavern opened and the object of his wait moved fluidly into the bar, Riven turned at the sound and smiled at the disguised officer as he caught sight of him as well after scanning the room and then moved toward them. The Mind healer stood respectfully as the CO of the Spectre came near and nodded a greeting. "Dr Mias, I presume?", he said. "Yes I am Riven Mias." he said, avoiding mentioning the officer's rank since they were here covertly. As T'Vhor sat he took his seat also and leaned toward him while lowering his voice. "Thank you for your prompt arrival captain, while I am interested in leaving as you know I would not be averse to helping you in whatever endeavor you and your crew are involved in here which everyone has thoughfully neglected to mention." He then gave T'Vor a warm smile. "There are two others here though who i think would be better off all told on the ship as soon as possible." (Reply: T'Vhor) He gestured to his companion. "This is Loth, the man I told you about, if it weren't for him we would still be holed up in the Cardassian compound." (Reply: T'Vhor, Loth) "Captain." Lt. Gerald had walked over and leaned with his hands on the table and was also speaking in a low voice. "Lt. Gerald of Star Fleet Intelligence, I am glad you were able to make the rendezvous, we have some serious problems at the moment." he put a hand to his head as he tried to stave off a headache from too freely imbibing of the alcohol. Riven rolled his eyes at the man's discomfort. "If you would tell me why you are here I would be happy to aid in any way I can." (Reply: T'Vhor, any) (Posted by Charles) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 16:43) "Yes I am Riven Mias", said the man with the long grey hair, as the Captain, or rather the Cardassian peasant that had now presented himself to the good Doctor, took a seat and then listened intently to what Mias had to say. "Thank you for your prompt arrival captain, while I am interested in leaving as you know I would not be averse to helping you in whatever endeavor you and your crew are involved in here which everyone has thoughfully neglected to mention", he said. The Captain looked to Palmer and Grey respectively. Under the circumstances, it was reassuring that they had not imparted too much information regarding their reasons for being here right now. After all, the Doctor and his friends could still be anyone, and as they did not have the luxury of a Federation database to hand, his actual credentials could not be checked or cross referenced for authenticity. The Captain answered thoughtfully, his own intuition telling him now that despite his initial reservations, Mias seemed to be precisely what he claimed to be and T'Vhor felt no hint of subterfuge lurking within the recesses of the mans mind. The notion that he was a mind healer though meant that his mind was trained to a very high degree, and in that, the possibility of subterfuge still existed nonetheless. "How long have you actually been here, Doctor?", asked the Captain. (Reply Mias) The Captain nodded, and then acknowledged the other person with them, a civilian that looked to be in his sixties but blessed with a full head of blonde hair that belied his age. "This is Loth, the man I told you about, if it weren't for him we would still be holed up in the Cardassian compound", said Mias. The Captain nodded to the man, and then greeted him accordingly, his own thoughts now lingering upon what these two men might possibly be running from that they were so eager to leave Amleth. His thoughts were quickly pushed aside though by the arrival of yet another. A man claiming to be an SFI officer, but strangely displaying the behaviour of anything but. It seemed to the Captain that this man had imbibed more than just a social amount of alcohol, his hand already attempting to sooth the growing pain that had evidently manifested within his cranium as he began to speak. "Captain. Lt. Gerald of Star Fleet Intelligence, I am glad you were able to make the rendezvous, we have some serious problems at the moment.", said the SFI man, just as Dr Mias suddenly interjected with another query regarding their reasons for being here. "If you would tell me why you are here I would be happy to aid in any way I can", he asked. The Captain paused before answering, the Doctors insistence now seeming a little odd to him. Intelligence by way of Admiral Alexander had stated that Lau would not show himself to just anyone, indeed it seemed that the man was positively fearing for his life. If T'Vhor imparted all that he knew about him, then it was possible that he might put him at risk even more. Obviously though something had to give, nothing would be achieved unless someone actually showed their hand so to speak, and with that in mind, the Captain took a deep breath and began, chosing his next words carefully now... "We are looking for a person", he began. "This person may be in great danger, his life is possibly at risk so I trust that you understand why I would feel that we must have some form of trust for one another before we begin revealing too many details regarding our mission here", he added. (Reply Mias, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District – Civilian Lothernan Pessoj - 16:44) Riven Gestured across to Loth "This is Loth, the man I told you about, if it weren't for him we would still be holed up in the Cardassian compound." T’vor looked at him like he was drunk, Loth knew it wasn’t the drink it was age and illness “It was nothing really, after all I’ve lived here for many years, and know how this village works, you try and hide something they track you down, you stand in the open people ignore you.” "Lt. Gerald of Star Fleet Intelligence, I am glad you were able to make the rendezvous, we have some serious problems at the moment." he put a hand to his head as he tried to stave off a headache from too freely imbibing of the alcohol. As Lt. Gerald mentioned not only his rank but position Loth slapped the table to hopefully drown it out. He then made the show of wiping a bug off his hand. Hopefully any listening devices wouldn’t have picked up when he had been saying. He noticed Riven rolling his eyes before saying anything "If you would tell me why you are here I would be happy to aid in any way I can." Loth looked across at T’vor, and then back to the bar, “I think I’ll leave you three to discuss this alone I need to visit the old man’s room.” He laughed pushing himself up from the table, he stumbled away from the table steadying himself getting the feeling back into his legs before he walked off. Once up right he could feel the ache of his limbs, “Not getting any younger Loth.” He grumbled to himself. (Reply any, none required) (Posted by Jo) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - ACouns, Dr. Riven Mias 16:45) "How long have you actually been here, Doctor?", asked the Captain. "Three days now." Riven said as he leaned back a bit. "The case I was on was very difficult." The introduction of Loth and arrival of the SFI officer followed as Riven observed Captain T'Vor closely, he was doing his best obviously to extend them trust while taking a healthy dose of caution; something that was very advisable under the circumstances. Upon Riven's following query of why the Spectre was here the CO gave a pregnant pause then a deeply indrawn breath before speaking. "We are looking for a person", There was another short pause of he chose his words like footsteps through a minefield. "This person may be in great danger, his life is possibly at risk so I trust that you understand why I would feel that we must have some form of trust for one another before we begin revealing too many details regarding our mission here" Riven nodded and raised a hand in understanding. "Of course, forgive me for prying. I have served with Star Fleet on numerous occasions and though I've been detached for several years I know the score." He sighed and his shoulders slumped a bit. "I am also very tired as I have had very little sleep the last two days.but I have missed being a part of a working crew. My work on Betazed or rather lack of it drives me to take up such missions as I was just involved in and I must say the thought of helping is very exciting." (Reply: T'Vor) "At any rate if you have the mind for a drink K'Trall keeps Romulan ale on hand though I would advise moderation." He took a sip of his own drink the looked up at the agent. "Unlike some of us who have been a bit too deep in our cups." His eyes twinkled with mischief again as Lt. Gerald's face reddened. (Reply: T'Vor, any) (Posted by Charles) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - Civilian, Lotheran Pessoj - 16:47) Loth laughed to himself as he watched Riven playing another song, he felt his chest tight his hand was shaking he would need to rest soon, usually he managed to get a small lie down in the afternoons but he had become distracted today. *Curse this disease* she said to himself in his head, he looked up at Riven wondering if the telepath had picked it up, if he had Riven didn’t show it. He leaned back in the chair and took another sip of the Romulan Ale, it’s strong flavor washed over his mouth and burned on it’s way down, the liquor seemed to ease his breathing a little. He turned back to watch Riven and enjoy the show for a moment, he guessed that he would be called up to do another one. Truth be told he was having the best time in many years. Living alone on a Cardassian planet while not unpleasant offered very little in the way of good entertainment. He couldn’t stand Cardassian literature and while he had come to appreciate their music it didn’t inspire him at all. Riven finished and Loth nodded “Well done guess it’s my turn.” He said with a slight grin. (Reply Riven) Loth got to his feet and moved towards the makeshift stage, he stumbled a bit, he knew his legs were feeling week from his disease. He steadied himself against the back of a chair. Turning to the audience he smiled “Guess I’ve had a bit much of that Romulan Poison.” He laughed to the crowd. He pulled the chair up on to the stage and sat down. Lifting his flute to his lips he began to play softly. He couldn’t expel the energy he would require to play his fast jazz. He scanned the room over his instrument as he let the notes speak for themselves. He wondered what the plan was to get off this rock. He had his instruments, to be honest that was all he needed. It was hell to replicate a good instrument but with that he could live happy where ever he was. Perhaps he could even get a dog. On Amleth they had been very firm about him bringing in pets, he couldn’t figure out why. He remembered when he had first arrived, a particularly boisterous Gul named Morain had insisted he had some amateur dentistry, and a rather thorough interview. That was years ago, Morain had been transferred and Loth was still on Amleth, well for the next few hours anyway. He sighed as he finished his song. He got up and smiled at Riven, “Fancy another set?” He asked. (reply Riven) (Posted by Jo) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - ACouns, Dr. Riven Mias - 16:48) It is well known that extroverts recharge when in a crowd and while he was still a bit tired Riven was busy recharging his emotional batteries as he played an ancient tune. "The Wind Through The Mountains". The song traced its lineage from the time before the split in the faithful of Alura over 2,000 years ago, the time when the Breakers emerged and became a force on Betazed. They were a martial sect and had served their purpose during a time of turmoil but had been banned from the temple afterward due to their formidable abilities and the threat they posed should they choose to release them once more. Since there had been ample time to practice with the instrument the notes flowed freely and after all it was one of his favorites, he could hardly have messed it up if he had tried. While Loth chose more up-beat tunes this one had a haunting melody that the natives seemed to enjoy. The tune rose in volume and the notes became more harsh as the end neared, signifying the effect of the wind upon the observer as it flowed by. And then it was over, a smattering of applause broke out as he lowered the oboe and bowed lithely from the waist to the tavern's patrons. “Well done guess it’s my turn.” Riven turned his smile to the human who nodded and grinned. "Be my guest." The Betazoid gestured with his hand toward the audience and returned to his Romulan ale as Loth prepared to start another set. The human's stumble did not go unnoticed and his apology struck a sour note even though out of restraint Riven was not using his empathic abilities, causing him to frown. The human sat down and began to play something more akin to the mind healer's preferred repertoire, Riven picked up some of the bread and sausage and made a sandwich between sips as he watched the man closely. "Hey doc that wash pretty good.' Riven glanced over at Lt. Gerald, the slurred words indicating an increased intake of the potent liquor. The man's face was reddening and his eyes looked a bit blurry. "How many of those have you had?" He asked, indicating the cup. "Three or four." The SFI agent shrugged. "I guess..." "You are cut off." The amusement in the Betazoid's voice not reaching his face. He took a bite of the sandwich and gestured the bartender over. "Yeah, want another?" K'Trall asked. "Not at the moment, that one..." he gestured toward Gerald. "has had enough. He's never been able to hold his liquor and I don't want to have to carry him out of here at my age." K'trall grunted in affirmation. "Time to pay his tab then." Thankfully they had been given enough Cardassian money to cover expenses, Riven counted out the coinage specified and turned back to his meal and another sip of ale as he listened. The tune was well done but he opened himself to the man as he ate and could feel his distraction, he didn't pry into his mind though. Empathy was enough, no telepathic exchange was taking place. There was a lot more to the man than met the eye, what was a human doing here on a Cardassian world anyway? What role did he play besides counselor? How did he manage to contact a Star Fleet representative? Questions and more questions, no doubt he had a colorful and interesting past that Riven would love to pry into when opportunity presented itself. He suddenly remembered something he was supposed to be doing and opened his mind to the one he had contacted earlier, a Lieutenant Palmer and found to his amazement that he was close by. He started and looked about the room, seeing only Cardassians. He suddenly smiled, Star Fleet was always so good about disguising its infiltrators. His eyes homed in on one who was sitting by himself, the man was listening to the music outwardly but tended to look about the bar from time to time uncomfortably. Riven caught his gaze and nodded, placing his left index finger to his temple then wiggling it at his eyes for an instant. (Reply: Palmer iyw) Riven winked and turned his attentions back to his meal, Gerald and Loth in that order. he was just finishing his sandwich as the set ended. Soon he was going to walk over to the table where the fauxe Cardassian sat and start up a conversation, perhaps one more set with Loth then he would saunter over if the man could keep the room's attention focused on him with another tune. The tune finished Loth heaved himself to his feet and looked over at Riven. “Fancy another set?” "Of course!" The Betazoid said brightly then leaned toward him and lowered his voice. "Do you think you have the strength for another one after our duo? I have someone to meet." He kept his eyes fixed on Loth, not letting them travel to the officer's table so as not to arouse suspicion among the patrons. It would look as though they were discussing what tune to play next. (Reply: Loth) Riven took up the oboe again and they launched into another tune, losing himself in it for a time in the link he had with Loth but in the other part of his mind he was planning on what he would say to the Star Fleet officer when he presented himself to him.
