The ship they had briefly 'seen' via sensors had become a ghost, and whilst the Captain was still optimistic now that the ship could be the Spectre, it was puzzling why it was hiding. Surely it too had detected them, and if it had, and it was indeed their ship, wouldn't someone have broke communications silence by now? Unless... The Captain surveyed his armrest console briefly, noting that the shield strength had just returned to nominal once again. It had been shifting about for some time now and whilst the Engineers were doing their level best to rectify the Rome's shortcomings, they couldn't deny that the ship wasn't 'really' ready for launch when they had commandeered it. Moving through the asteroid field though, T'Vhor watched as the grey, fragments of what had once been a planet or two, moved towards them and then were swept aside by the deflection circuitry. Which thankfully 'Was' working properly. Glancing rearwards towards the Tactical console, the Captain asked for an update and then made some further suggestions. "There are a number of planetoids in this area", he offered. "If I were trying to avoid detection, I might use one of those planetoids and hide in its dark side", he added. "Concentrate our scans in those areas and look for anything out of the ordinary" (Reply Tactical, Any) The Captain then resumed watching the asteroids sweeping past them... (Reply Tactical, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Rome - Engineering - ACEO, Ensign Walker Markell - 18:56) Gavin had long finished his hurried rations, but he was still hungry and hankering for something substantial, but there was work to be done. New to the ship, not to mention the Rome or wherever he was, he felt lost, confused and hadn't really fit in yet. Tossed into a new situation right out of the Academy was nerve racking. It wasn't the easement into Star Fleet he was expecting. Leaning on his training he kept a level head...as level as he could. This was all new, but exciting to be sure. ~Yellow Alert?! Why are we at yellow alert?~ ~Ah yes the asteroid field.~ He tapped the console to view shield status noting a slight, but potential problem. "Damn...I'll need to fix that." Walker said aloud. His training and natural technical talent isolated the phase difference in the forward shield emitters. He quickly reset the three lazy emitters. A few moments later they were back online and a quick diagnostic showed the glitch was resolved. "Sir forward shields back to maximum output." not knowing if anyone was listening or even cared. All were busy with their own tasks. ~Okay...let's see what I can do about the impulse issues..." Walker continued and worked silently. (Reply none, any) (Posted by Gavin) (USS Rome - Bridge - Tactical Officer – Lieutenant (J.G) Jo Smith – 19:00) "There are a number of planetoids in this area", he offered. "If I were trying to avoid detection, I might use one of those planetoids and hide in its dark side", he added. "Concentrate our scans in those areas and look for anything out of the ordinary" Jo looked up from her tactical console. “Yes sir.” She entered a few commands into the console as she turned the ships powerful tactical scanners on the closest planetoid that was big enough to totally hide the Spector. ~Come on where have you sneaked off too~ She scrutinised the first planetoid until she had satisfied herself that there was not Spectre Class starship in its shadow. She systematically worked her way through numerous amount of planetoids until she found something. It was a ghost image fading from her screen as fast as she saw it. She quickly re-ran the scan data and looked intensely at it. ~Yes it could be~ She rechecked that data before nodding to herself as she looked up at T’Vhor. “Sir I have a fleeting sensor return behind a planetoid on our bearing. I have nothing solid but I believe something is behind it.” (Reply T’Vhor) (Reply T’Vhor, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Dreamer - Cockpit - Strategic Officer, Lieutenant Commander Jonathan Warwick - 19:00) Jonathan efficiently ran his fingers over the refit Maquis Raider's cockpit pilot board. The raider, and the many others that were rebuilt, was something Jonathan took great pride in. It was his idea to find the old scrapped raiders, which they found more than a dozen of, and turn them into viable federation ships again. After presenting the idea to Admiral Alexander, and the Admiral really liking the idea, Jonathan was put in charge of the special project. The raiders had been very useful since the completion of the first raider refit, and it seemed they were especially useful since the parasitic infiltration. Of course Admiral Alexander knew he had taken the raider, and knew the real reason why he took the raider. But that information was barred from everyone else. Shortly after taking off, Jonathan took all precautions known and available to him to prevent from being noticed by others. When it was safe to do so, Jonathan flew, quite easily, the raider through the asteroid field where he knew he would find the USS Rome. In reverse, Lt. Cmdr. Warwick released all the precautions that once hid him from view so that the USS Rome could freely see him and scan him if they so wished. Jonathan also flew toward the USS Rome slightly to its side as not to present himself as a threat or making an attack run. And just to ensure, if all of that failed, he sent a hail directly to the USS Rome identifying himself and the ship with a friendly greeting attached. Of course, Jonathan was certain that he had taken every correct step to obviously let the USS Rome know he was a friendly. But Jonathan hoped that the Commanding Officer that was aboard the USS Rome had as much sense. Jonathan was sure he would be able to achieve finding the Spectre, and then he would yet again receive another commendable honor. He waited for a response from the USS Rome. (reply Rome) (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Rome - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 19:04) "Sir, I have a contact bearing One Ninety Mark Two Four. Federation transponder riding on an old Raider" The Captain swung about at the announcement. "A Raider?", he enquired, unsure then as to why such a craft would be out here meandering through the asteroid fields, let alone still used much. The ships had once been prized by the old Maquis and for that they were clearly no slouches, but weren't they all but obsolete? "Hail it", ordered the Captain, and the Tactical Officer responded with a curt 'Aye Sir'. "Federation Raider, this is the USS Rome. Please state the nature of your business and intent" (Reply Warwick) The Captain's interest piqued. Someone else looking for the Spectre besides them, and he personally had been mentioned? Why, nobody even knew that the ship had even been commandeered by the Ferengi yet, and yet here was a Federation Officer, in a small Raider no less claiming that he was on a special mission from Admiral Alexander to find her and her CO. Which was most strange considering the special relationship the Captain currently held with the aforementioned Admiral. There was something in the officers tone though that had bothered the Vulcan hybrid CO, and although everything had seemed to check out on the identification front, he wasn't forgetting Starfleet's earlier order that the Spectre was to be considered renegade, and therefore possibly hostile. And neither, it would seem were the rest of his officers... "Shall I tell the Lieutenant Commander that you're in command sir?", enquired the TAC Officer, sensing the awkwardness of the situation. T'Vhor pondered that briefly, then he shook his head. "Not at this time", he answered, wondering now what the hell this was all about. "Have the Raider dock in hanger Two and have the officer brought to the bridge. "Aye sir", said the Tactical Officer, before relaying that order to Lt Kerge himself. "Have Lieutenant Kerge attend also", said the Captain on the mention of the Klingon. "His presence might be required..." (Reply Warwick, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Dreamer - Cockpit - Strategic Officer, Lieutenant Commander Jonathan Warwick - 19:06) =/\=Federation Raider, this is the USS Rome. Please state the nature of your business and intent.=/\= ~Well, good. They have no intentions of blowing me up~ Jonathan thought to himself in a cavalier way. Suspiciously however, Jonathan noticed that the USS Rome was short in their hail. They did not make who they were known, nor did they announce the officer in charge. Lt. Cmdr. Warwick responded, "The nature of my business is Federation safety, and my intent is to do just that by locating the USS Spectre and its Commanding Officer Captain T'Vhor as ordered by Admiral Alexander." After he said it, Jonathan felt a little uneasy giving so much information upfront and freely. It seemed Jonathan's answer was good enough, as he was given clearance to dock in bay two. Using muscle memory Jonathan's hands ran over the pilot's board once again. The Raider's engines burst to life and the ship moved with ease toward the USS Rome. (reply none, any if needed) (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Rome - Bridge – Tactical Officer, Lieutenant (J.G.) Jo Smith - 19:09) "Aye sir" Jo looked back at the console as she watched the Raider begin its fine run in to the hanger bay two. "Have Lieutenant Kerge attend also” "His presence might be required..." Jo nodded and tapped her comm badge. “Lieutenant Kerge. This is Lieutenant Smith.” She spoke quietly into the comm mic. (Reply Kerge IYW) “Sir we have a Lieutenant Commander arriving in hanger bay two. The skipper wants you to be there in case of any unforeseen happens and to escort him to the bridge.” (Reply Kerge) (Reply Kerge, Any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Rome - Bay 2 - Strategic Officer, Lieutenant Commander Jonathan Warwick - 19:12) Jonathan stepped out of the Raider, and was immediately received by a security officer. The officer was clearly Klingon. A half smile quickly appeared on Jonathan's face, and just as quickly disappeared. Something about a Klingon being in security seemed so cliche. He'd never seen a Klingon as a science officer, he chuckled to himself, or a botanist. Though, if he did see such a view he would probably think such a thing odd and out of place. "Greetings. I am Lieutenant Commander Warwick. Permission to board?" (reply Kerge) "Thank you. I request to speak with your commanding officer right away please." (reply Kerge, any) (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Rome - Bay 2 - TAC/SC, Lt Kerge - 19:15) The man stepping off the newly arrived Raider looked smug, and whilst smugness might be considered a trait that might be admired in a Klingon warrior, Kerge had always thought that it looked out of place in Humans, who simply looked egotistical. A Lieutenant Commander though still deserved the respect his rank afforded him, and as the man moved towards the Security Chief, Kerge braced himself and held his mind. "Greetings. I am Lieutenant Commander Warwick. Permission to board?" "Granted", said Kerge, "welcome aboard Sir" "Thank you", said Warwick. "I request to speak with your commanding officer right away please." And there it was. The request that belied the ego that usually came with the smugness that he'd observed earlier. Kerge had seen it so many times already of course, most notably in those that 'kow-towed' to those above them in order to garner favour, or to win praise. The big Klingon though held his tongue once again, for it just wouldn't do to be throwing newly arrived officers into walls right now, even if they had arrived with a definite attitude that implied hostility towards the Captain himself. Indeed, when the call had come down from the bridge, complete with it's thinly veiled warning to 'Keep an Eye' on the newcomer, Kerge was immediately on his guard. "Actually Sir, the Captain has 'Requested' to speak with you immediately", offered Kerge. "I'm to escort you to the bridge right away" (Reply Warwick) (Posted by Alan) (USS Rome – Bridge – CMO, Cmdr Andrew Williams - 19:17) Andrew watched as the Lieutenant Commander was escorted on to the bridge by Kerge. He was still against the far bulk heed keeping out of the way but still being able to watch what was happening on the bridge. ~This is crazy. How did this guy find us. We are on a stolen ship heading into an asteroid field while we are hunting the Spectre one of the sneakiest ships in the 52nd fleet let alone the federation and this guy just pops by in the raider of all vessels and demands to come aboard~ He paused for a moment as worry began to creep in he had been keeping it at bay for a while by it had been days since they had heard from the Serenity and he was getting worried. He had thought that when the Rome had picked up a ship on scanners it was the Serenity but it had been the Raider which had caused him to worry more. ~Where are you Jay~ He pulled himself away from his thoughts as the Lieutenant Commander began to speak to T’Vhor. He hoped some answer were about to be explained. (Reply Warwick, T’Vhor any) (Posted by Robbie) =================================================================
