Deck Three, Sickbay – Nurse Douwsy - 10:38) “Nurse it appears that there is hemorrhage into the eye, we are going to need to temporarily shunt it to prevent pressure build up.” “Yes Doctor.” “Nurse, I am making my incision into the Duramatter now and am entering the optic nerve.” Douwys watched the screen as she assisted the SAH to assist the EMH with the surgery. She felt a little out of the loop over by the console helping the SAH. She was used to standing by the surgeon and being right in with the operation. “I have entered the optic nerve, now let us see what all this trouble is about.” “Definitely Doctor.” “Yes, as I feared,” the EMH took special note of the situation, “but could be worse.” Douwys looked at the screen and saw that the retinal artery had been ruptured. ~That’s is not good~ “It could have been a lot worse Doctor.” “That’s it, the central retinal artery has ruptured, probably when this man was knocked down by the bulkhead. We can make quick work of closing it.” “That will be good Doctor.” “Well thankfully the optic nerve itself appears undamaged, and” the EMH made a few more microscopic repairs on the infinitesimally small blood vessel, “done.” The EMH pulled its hands out of the support frame. “Good Doctor.” She entered a couple of commands and the SAH began. “Yes, well, we better make a note of this program’s performance and submit it to the doctor.” “Yes Doctor I will transfer all the data to Dr Huval's terminal.” “He must have plenty of bed rest, needs to keep that eye immobilized for about three days until the micro-sutures heal.” “He’s going to be out for about another four hours. Also he will need several follow-up appointments with the medical staff after he leaves. I’ll alert Mr. H’Chir to the situation when we get the rest of Sickbay settled. He will probably want to know that his department will be short an engineer for a few days.” “Yes Doctor. I’ll get on to it.” “Yes, good work nurse” the EMH stopped in the doorway, “oh and please don’t forget to turn the SAH off.” She nodded as the doors shut. When she saw sure the EMH was far enough away she then shook her head and rolled her eyes. “Do you want me to scrub your holo-emitters as well? What did your last servant die of?” She turned back to the room. “Computer deactivate SAH and transfer data to Dr Huval terminal.” She then stepped towards the patient. “Okay my friend. The hard part is over now let’s get you back to bio-bed ah.” (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (Vedea IV - Na'Jea City, SF Emergency Headquarters - TAC/SC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps - 10:46) Calvin had been talking with Director Nortak about the Vedean's rescue mission for the USS Spectre. After the Security Chief understood the plan he went to work with his own analysis of the information of the facts. “Mr. Capps, how long do you think it will take to locate the ship and gain communications?” "Unfortunately, that is unknown Dr. Huval," Lt Cmdr Capps replied as he looked at the board. “Will we be able to assess damage with the Vedean scanners from here?” asked the Dr. "As of now that outcome does not seem possible," answered Calvin. He continued to run his fingers across the board. He was currently looking at an underwater radar in the northern part of the planet. According to Nortak nearly 50 percent of the planet has already been thoroughly scanned for the Spectre with no avail. Calvin knew that he needed to think of something, and he needed to think of it quickly. With the Spectre being attacked he now knew there was an enemy near by. He also realized that he needed to help with the survival of the Spectre and its crew, but the enemy ship that attacked also needed to be found. He quietly continued to work to save the Spectre if he could. (reply Huval, any) (posted by Calvin) (Vedea IV - Covert Seabase - Comms Officer, Saul Brent - 10:50) The communications officer was busy listening in to the comms traffic of the Vedean internal affairs section as they tried, seemingly in vain to locate the Spectre. Normally, it would have been general protocol for the bridge officers of the ship to have deployed a beacon upon the ships loss, the EMP weapon that had disabled it in orbit though had effectively shut down the entire communications array, leaving the ailing vessel with no means at all to summons help as the attacking ship left orbit to initiate the second phase of it's plan. Brent had been monitoring everything of course, up to and including the Vedean communication to Starfleet command by the Spectre's Chief of Security, he knew that it wouldn't take too much longer now for the ship itself to be found, and having just received the go ahead from the ETHOS 1 commander, Brent approached the squad CO as he himself waited patiently for that go ahead. "Sir, ETHOS 1 reports that it has left the system, the Spectre has ceased it's descent and is laying roughly four kilometres due East of our location at a depth of sixty four thousand plus metres.... We have a go for assault sir", said Brent. (Reply Squad CO) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Bridge – FO, Williams – 10:53) "Other then being at the bottom of an ocean? We are golden Sir." Andrew was Storm turn to look at him so he waited for Storm to continue. "Sir, I was just thinking if we force air into the breached sections and seal them back up, increase air pressure in the ship to make us more buoyant we might be able to float ourselves back to the surface?" He nodded. “That is a sound suggestion but it will take time to pressure and seal the flooded section. I want more then force fields in case we lose power again. I would also like to have engines before we get to the surface or we will be going no where.” (Reply Storm) He stepped over to the tactical console and lowered his voice so that only Storm could hear. “How are you holding up? This is not exactly the acclimatisation mission we were expecting.” (Reply Strom) (Reply Storm any) (Posted by Robbie) (Vedea IV - Covert Seabase – Assault Squad CO , Audrey Williams - 10:53) "Sir, ETHOS 1 reports that it has left the system, the Spectre has ceased it's descent and is laying roughly four kilometres due East of our location at a depth of sixty four thousand plus metres.... We have a go for assault sir", Audrey turned to Brent and nodded before looking at the rest of the squad. “Remember fast and quick. Any resistance, flood the area. This needs to look like they lost power and the ship flooded quickly. We take no prisoners.” She fitted her helmet into place and heard and soft hiss of the pressure seal as it sealed her suit. ~Time to say hello little brother~ She activated the comm channel. “Let’s move out.” (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Bridge – ATAC/ASC, Ensign Barac Storm – 10:54) “That is a sound suggestion but it will take time to pressure and seal the flooded section. I want more then force fields in case we lose power again. I would also like to have engines before we get to the surface or we will be going no where.” Barac briefly looked up and nodded. "I have not found anything on that other ship as yet Sir. Sorry, it seems most of our sensors got fried with everything else that happened. It seemed they were projecting a holographic image before they fired and another after. The Spectre we saw might have been as false as the freighter we saw Sir." Barac sounded a bit confused, mostly because he was confused. The technology to fool their Sensors that completely wasn't something he thought possible. Williams stepped over to the tactical console and lowered his voice so that only Storm could hear. “How are you holding up? This is not exactly the acclimatisation mission we were expecting.”, he said. Barac noticed his approach and was sure this was where he got chewed out for not getting the Shields up fast enough. He was almost going to apologize when he heard Andrew's voice. "I am good to go Sir." He looked up and smiled, "although I have to say my diving certificate is only certified to four hundred feet, Sir." He realized this wasn't a good time to joke, "Sorry Sir, my Uncle was a Marine Gunny, He got me in the habit of joking when stuff hit the fan. He said it was good for morale?" Strangely Barac seemed more worried about making a bad impresion then he did his circumstances. (Reply any) (Posted by Raymond) (USS Spectre - Matter/Antimatter Containment - CEO, Lt H'Chir - 10:58) H'Chir had been working diligently and to a high degree of precision, given the nature of the work at hand of course. The intermix chamber had now been isolated from the matter feed beyond the manual EPS relay, and the relay itself had now been closed and removed for electromagnetic release. So far so good... At this point, H'Chir had settled back against the bulkhead, his feet up against the opposite one whilst he worked upon the relay. Briefly, he ran a small tool around it's periphery, the lights on the tool switching from red to green to indicate an operational field until the relay finally unlatched with an audible click. A pain to get the thing out in the first place but, so simple to put right. "Now to get you back to your home", said the CEO as he grabbed at the service rail and hoisted himself up and onto his haunches. He then began offering up the relay to the aperture, cursing mildly as his combadge chirped into life to interrupt things. =/\=Durgil to H'Chir. I've finished the changes. The Computer thinks we've separated, and full control is ready to be routed to the battle bridge=/\= "Assuming we have full power to route there Ensign", said H'Chir, "at the moment we have minimum power being rationed between the most critical areas, the forcefields are a priority of course, as is the sickbay.... I've freed the EPS lock on the flow relays so we should have main power online shortly", he added. (Reply Durgil) "Remain at the battle bridge for the moment Ensign, if the command team needs to occupy it, they'll no doubt need an engineer on station", said H'Chir. (Reply Durgil) "So long as things go to plan you should be seeing those indicators coming up to optimal pretty soon.... Oh, and good work Ensign, H'Chir out", said H'Chir as he returned to the task in hand, namely replacing the EPS flow relay in preparation for a warp core restart. Oh, and good work Ensign, H'Chir out=/\= "Thanks." Aldlar sighed. Once again, it seemed only a matter of waiting. It normally wouldn't have been a problem, but sharp pains in Aldlar's arm made waiting something hard to fathom. As he glanced around, he saw many areas where damage had been caused to a shallow extent. A couple panels had come off during the impact, and certain minor parts had been shaken out of the system. Although backup systems had that all taken care of, Aldlar thought it might be best to spare the backups should they be needed later. He sat down on the floor next to one and began to work on restoring it's parts to their proper places, pausing occasionally as his arm demanded. (Reply: Any) (Posted by: John) (Vedea IV - Na'Jea City, SF Emergency Headquarters - TAC/SC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps - 11:01) Lt Cmdr Capps had been following some leads he personally discovered and a few that the Vedean rescue team had found. The most promising one was the unusual tidal waves that had started to appear on a small island in the southern hemisphere of the planet. Calvin had strongly recommended to Director Nortak to begin moving all of the rescue team resources to the small area of the tidal waves. "Lt Cmdr, I want... what you want and that is to find your ship. But I fail to see how it will be beneficial to disorient our organized rescue team by suddenly breaking their plan just because you THINK you have found your ship," the director argued. What the director was saying was true. Calvin was only going by a few simple clues but most of all his hunch. He found it odd though that the Vedean rescue team had now successfully searched over 60 percent of the planet and was still not able to triangulate to the Spectre. Plus with the sudden outrage of changing the plan the security chief became concerned about his new friend. Calvin raised his body away from the console he was staring at and now stared at the director with silence and cold eyes. It must have looked unprofessional, but Calvin was making a decision on the spot. "Re-route the rescue team to these coordinates director," he said with a stern voice. He then added "if you please!" The director was clearly not used to be given orders, "I strongly suggest we stay the route..." "Director!" exclaimed Calvin. The room fell silent and a few seconds went by. The director finally moved and walked toward the console next to Calvin. Lt Cmdr Capps watched as the director placed in the commands to move the rescue team to the southern hemisphere near the small island that he now knew to be Karil. "There you are Lt Cmdr..." was all the director said before he begin walking out of the room but before he could leave Calvin spoke up one more time. "Thank you director, if you could do me one more favor. I would like to have a Pod ready for me and my team." The director gave a quick nod of the head and left the room. The security chief wondered again about the director and where exactly was the director going at this crucial moment. There were a lot questions, but he knew that the Spectre was his priority. Calvin tapped his combadge, "Capps to Captain T'Vhor." (reply T'Vhor) As Calvin spoke to the Captain he continue to monitor the water on the console. There was no movement, no physical sign of the Spectre yet. "Sir, we are moving the Vedean rescue team to a more specific location where I believe the Spectre will be located. The team will arrive in the area in 15 minutes," informed Calvin. (reply T'Vhor) "I have also set up a Pod for any of our team who wishes to go to the location," continued the security chief. (reply T'Vhor) As the Captain talked a beep began to roar from one of the console's in the room. Calvin listened as he ran his fingers across the board. "Captain, a ship just appeared on our sensors. Its not the Spectre but its moving fast and towards the area where the Spectre is located. It will arrive 10 minutes before we can." (reply T'Vhor) (reply T'Vhor, Huval, any in room, any) (posted by Calvin) (Vedea IV - First Ministers Chamber - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 11:02) The Captain was in a pensive mood, after all it wasn't often that a Starship dropped out of orbit and disappeared without a trace. The only reports the away team had received about this had been from the Vedean security staff, and that seemed woefully lacking. It wasn't that the Vedeans were inept, far from it in fact, it was just that whatever it was that had attacked the Spectre in orbit, it had done so with such effectiveness that it had apparently knocked out communication 'and' the ability to deploy a subspace beacon. Either that, or the ship had been completely destroyed... and the Captain was not about to entertain that possibility for one second. With the First minister deep in conversation with a member of his security staff, the Captain stood, hands clasped behind his back and looking out upon a landscape tinged entirely green, compliments of the fact that they were currently deep beneath Vedea IV's vast sprawling ocean. Lieutenant Commander Capps was in the process of working through security protocol with his Vedean counterpart, whilst Dr Huval and Lieutenant Adams were busy investigating both medical and engineering idiosyncrasies with their respective counterparts. In short, everyone was doing all they could under the circumstances, and that was restricted in the extreme. There was little to do until more information came in so with that in mind, the Captain made a log entry. "Captain's supplemental log, stardate 2414.01.04. 11:04... After beaming down to Vedea IV to begin negotiations, we have been informed of an 'incident', in orbit of the planet. It would seem that at approximately ten twenty hundred hours, the Spectre was attacked by an unknown vessel, this resulting in an uncontrolled entry into the Vedean atmosphere. Consequently, the ship is currently missing, the most likely outcome being that it made contact with the ocean and has become submerged" The Captain paused briefly in his log entry, his eyes settling upon a large, lumbering creature as it meandered through the water way off in the distance. For a moment it had almost looked the same shape as a Spectre class vessel, but this of course was merely wishful thinking and the creature in question was only a native of Vedea IV's ocean. The Captain continued on. "Lieutenant Commander Capps has managed to utilize the Vedean communications array to send a message to Starfleet command detailing our situation at this moment in time, their communications however are limited to below subspace capability which means that the message may take longer than we would normally expect for it to arrive. In the interim, the Vedean First minister is doing all that he can to find the ship and has mobilized all options available to him.... I can only hope that the ship is still in one piece, or that if indeed the worse case scenario turns out to be the case and the Spectre has been lost, then all of my crew escaped with their lives", said the Captain, pausing once again to ponder the ramifications of that particular outcome as the first minister approached having finished his dealings with his subordinate. "End log entry, append to existing", he added, thus finalizing the supplemental report for future logging and then turning his attention to the Vedean leader. Lights activated inside the panel, showing the changes being made active. Aldlar grinned momentarily, before being stopped by a sudden pain. He gritted his teeth as he stood up, leaning against the wall with his left arm. ~I guess I better pull out the good ol' medkit.~ He replaced the cover to the panel as full illumination came on, it's controls now re-established in their proper relay. With a sigh, he began to approach one of the medical supply modules, retrieving a medkit from it. After opening it, he stared at it's contents, trying to remember which was what. ~Let's see... Medical tricorder, duh... Hypo spray... Cylindrical object... Why can't they put labels on these things!~ Aldlar took the tricorder out and began to scan his right arm. It revealed the obvious fact that his arm was broken. ~Alright... Sterilite...~ The basic course in medicine given to all engineers was one of the classes that Aldlar had payed the least attention to, but he had remembered parts. He activated the sterilite in the medkit, leaving it over the wound for a while. ~As long as nobody is here....~ "Computer, Play music on the battle bridge intercom, Ambient." The computer chirped in response and began to play the music. As he waited for someone to issue orders, Aldlar tried to relax, coping with the pain as it came. He moved over to a console and checked where the alert went off. It had been a while since the last medical alert had gone off. It was the Battle Bridge, someone had opened a medkit in one of the storage containers located in the corridor paneling. “Battle Bridge, this is the Emergency Medical Hologram. Is everyone all right?” (Reply Durgil) “A sensor in the bulkhead storage compartment sent an alert to Sickbay that someone activated a medkit. (Reply:EMH) "No use insisting Doc. I don't mean to be a pain to you, but until I'm relived by someone here, I'm not going all the way across the ship." The computer beeped. ::Power to primary conn station relays interrupted. (Reply: EMH, Any) (Posted by: John) (Vedea IV - First Ministers Chamber - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 11:05) The First minister looked a little worried at their current inability to locate the stricken Spectre, if the truth be known it would appear that 'something' was actually hampering their efforts, although what that something could be was anyone's guess. Either way, Vedean technology was at a level whereby they should have found it by now, what then might be hampering them? Briefly, the Vedean ran his hand to his gilled neck in an attempt to alleviate the tension that was now building up within the muscles there. He knew of course that this was probably the worst thing that could possibly happen between his people and their new found freindship with the Federation, he had indeed hoped that they might discuss Vedea IV's inclusion sometime in the near future.... now though it seemed a pointless desire. A chirrup of the Captain's combadge broke the inevitable silence. =/\=Capp's to Captain T'Vhor=/\= "Go ahead Mr Capps", said the Captain, hoping now that some progress may have in fact been made. =/\=Sir, we are moving the Vedean rescue team to a more specific location where I believe the Spectre will be located. Its not the Spectre but its moving fast and towards the area where the Spectre is located. It will arrive 10 minutes before we can=/\= said Capps. The Captain raised an eyebrow quizzically. "We have not ascertained that the Spectre is located there yet Lieutenant Commander, however, the fact that an unidentified vessel is en route to the very location you suspect it to be... is perhaps good reason to suspect that it may be", said the Captain. (Reply Capps) The Captain turned to the First minister. "Are you aware of any mining actions in the location of Karil Island?", he asked. The Vedean simply shook his head in the negative. "It's a volcanic outlet Captain, there are no useful mining opportunities there", he said, "and we have no vessels matching the description given by your Security chief", he added with a worried expression. "Tell me first minister, what are your defensive capabilities?", asked the Captain. The Vedean quirked his head slightly to one side and contemplated the query. "Nothing like your Federation Captain, we have no real need to defend ourselves, we are a peaceful people intent only on offering our services to those that may require them", said the First minister. "But you do have an armed security force here?", queried the Captain. "Yes Captain, I will order it mobilized to the area in question of course", said the first minister with a slight bow of his head. The Captain then resumed his discussion with Capps. "I want you to make your way to the location that you speak of Lieutenant Commander, the first minister has agreed to deploy his security also so liase with Director Nortak on that matter", said the Captain. (Reply Capps) "Understood, Captain out", said the Captain. He had worked frantically for what seemed like hours on a way to detect the ship that had crashed into the ocean and raise it from where ever it was. This also had incredible factors concerning the state of what the ship would be in when found. Earlier on having been given permission to leave he had toured the science laboratories on the Vedean complex. He was initially thrilled to see the processing plants that refined the algae and the laboratories where they extracted the algae on a micro biotic scale. His interest peeked at the algae itself after so much planning and he had intended to beam a sample aboard after being given permission to take a sample. He played with it in his hands feeling the slimy substance that had caused Starfleet to send an envoy for it. This clump of blue slime had so many applications for both good and bad and Teverine felt its weight almost increase at the amount of woe and joy this simple single celled plant had caused. Then disaster struck and his world seemed to have been thrown into turmoil and anxiety for an initial moment before he calmed himself and set to the task of finding the ship and then solving a way to get it out of the ocean. Having asked permission from his Captain to stay with the science delegates and find a way to find and raise the ship. Then it struck him the algae, he looked around for his escort Jinxc a Haughty looking Vedean who was focused on his work in the corner of the room. “Jinxc how do you find and track the algae in the ocean?” Hoping his idea was on the right tracks Teverine mentally prayed his theory was correct. “We use state of the art scanners to record the flow of the main areas where the algae grows, we also track the water born algae as it transports through the ocean. Why?” Looking perplexed as to why Teverine would ask such a question especially considering the current circumstances Jinxc looked slightly unconvinced why he should be asking a question about algae at a time like this. Not wanting to smile just yet Teverine pressed on further. “How detailed is your tracking of the Algae do you record its density and movement accurately? Jinxc moved to the console next to him quickly tapping in a few commands a image flashed on the screen in front of him showing a mass of algae moving slowly with the currents of the sea, numbers appeared on the edge of the screen reeling off composites of the smallest details about the moving mass of algae down to the quality and maturity of the water born floating algae. “Is this enough information for you?” Smiling outwardly now Teverine plundered on. “Can you show me the entire oceans flow charts for the time of the crash?” Comprehending Teverine’s idea Jinxc followed his lead and excitedly tapped further commands into the screen showing his analysis to Teverine. Tapping his comm badge Teverine felt a rush of delight. "Captain T’Vhor I have located the ship using the Vedean’s systems which scan the flow of Algae in the ocean, I can clearly see where the ship impacted by the effect it had on the algae surrounding it. I am uploading it to you now Sir" (Reply T’Vhor) (Posted by Peter Richards) (USS Spectre - Deck Three, Sickbay - The Emergency Medical Hologram - 11:06) =^="I'll get there ASAP, but I probably shouldn't right now. The co-ordinates for the USS Spectre revealed nothing but space, and a sensor sweep of the area confirmed that the ship hadn't shifted to a new orbit. He rubbed his face with his hand, thinking. Nico had only graduated from Starfleet Academy three months earlier and a part of him was hoping for a quiet assignment on some warm, friendly planet with decent waves and only a handful of surprises to keep things interesting. Instead he was suddenly alone, high above an unfamiliar planet, with the growing sense that something was terribly, terribly wrong. Ten minutes earlier Nico's shuttle had intercepted a garbled message from Vedea IV conerning some kind of attack, but even with a series of filters and recalibrations of the sensor array, Nico got nothing more than a vague warning and then static. He had wished there was an engineer on board, but even then, the message was so short that it would only leave more answers in its wake even if it was properly received. ~The Spectre's not in orbit~, he thought to himself and then looked down to the ocean planet, his mind going through the possibilities. He knew the Spectre was capable of entering a planet's atmosphere so he shifted the sensor scan downward to focus on the planet itself instead of its upper atmosphere and space. His sensors picked up a number of what he assumed were settlements before finally locking on to the Federation ship. Nico checked the display twice, and couldn't help but think that the captain must either be in serious trouble, or be some kind of lunatic. The USS Spectre was 64,000 feet below the surface of the Vedean ocean. "Found you," he whispered before opening a communication channel. "USS Spectre, this is Ensign Nico Tchaikovsky on board the Barwon. I've arrived for a rendezvous but you're not in orbit. What is your status?" There was a pause. ~What if the ship's destroyed?~ he wondered, running through his training but realising that coming across the destruction of a star ship hadn't really been in the manual - at least not in the parts he had read. And then another part of his mind started to think about the reasons why a star ship would crash into a planet. ~Don't go there...~ he cautioned himself, although he ran another sensor sweep of the surrounding space looking for any kind of danger. He'd hate to be suddenly engulfed by a solar flare or a hail of meteors or something. It was fascinating. With a few commands, he could transform one piece of equipment into another. "This is quite amazing," said Adams to Dorell, the Vedean engineer who was showing him how the technology works. "You've developed a whole organic programming language on this single cell organism. How did you ever develop this technology?" "The organism is fairly common in the deepest part of our oceans," explained Dorell. "Early explorers saw their transmorphic capabilities and started to study them. It was later discovered that their abilities could be controlled through a series of sonic transmissions." While Dorell explained, Adams started scanning the portable computer screens. Within a few seconds he was accessing the computer's memory and was copying the transmorphic programming language to the tricorder. "I'm speechless," replied Adams. "Excuse me?" asked Dorell. "It's a Human expression," explained Adams. "It means 'I'm amazed'. I think it's about time that I met up with my captain and the rest of my party. Can you escort me back?" "Are you sure?" asked the Vedean engineer. "There's so much for me to show you here." "I'm worried about my ship and anxious to find out any news." "But surely they would contact you if something was known," said Dorell. "I insist." Adams raised an eyebrow as the Vedean engineer turned his back and started inputting some information into one of the portable computers. "I'm sorry, Dorell, but I have to go," stated the Starfleet officer and then exited the room despite Dorell's protests. The fact that the Security chief had had the foresight to acknowledge the meaning of the tidal disruptions had been a welcome surprise, the Captain though was hardly expecting the next surprise to arrive, which had done so by way of a sudden and very unexpected communication, heralded by the familiar chirrup of his combadge. =/\=USS Spectre, this is Ensign Nico Tchaikovsky on board the Barwon. (Reply Tchaikovsky) More good news it would seem.... "Ensign Tchaikovsky, please stand by for further orders", said the Captain as he quickly tapped at his combadge to open another channel to the Sec chief, who by now would be en route to Karil island. Good news, though. I ran a scan of the planet and I have located the Spectre. I'll send you the co-ordinates if you like, although it currently lays at the bottom of the ocean." Nico was told to stand by for further orders as the Captain most likely began to organise a rescue attempt from his position on the ground. While he waited, Nico ran another sensor sweep of the area around his shuttle, hoping he wouldn't find any sign of whatever had engaged the Spectre in battle. He felt a little claustrophobic in the cockpit. "Take it easy, Seaweed," he chided himself. "Take it easy." Specifically, they had placed demo charges on the shuttle bay one and two doors, as well as the marine dropship bay. The plan now was whilst the crew were dealing with the flooding, Audrey and her team could enter by Cargo bay 2 and get to the main computer core. An evil smile crossed her face. They had a powerful computer virus that would open all hatches and doors on the ship when inserted into the terminal of the main computer core. She turned to her demo officer and nodded, then she looked back at the cargo bay 2 doors as a bright flash and a release of bubbles signified the doors buckling and then letting the sea rush in, within seconds the cargo bay was flooded. She knew that the other charges had gone off also and wondered how the bridge would be dealing with all the flooding reports. Hadn't the first officer promised that that was the last of it? Obviously it wasn't.... H'Chir was now laying on his back looking up at the ceiling of the room. For a brief moment, his head span and dizziness set in, due no doubt to the gash he'd sustained whilst working in the Jeferries tubes with Ensign Durgil earlier. Instinctively, he reached up to touch the makeshift bandage, then he glanced at his fingers to note a definate increase in the blue wetness upon them. "Damn you Andrew!", he cried, shaking his head and then pulling himself up into a sitting position to immediately tap at his combadge. "H'Chir to bridge!", he exclaimed, somewhat infuriatedly. (Reply Williams) (Posted by Alan) (SS Barwon Shuttle - Cockpit - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 11:12) Arriving in the shuttle as a re-integrating matter stream, the Captain made note of the newly arrived Ensign Tchaikovsky, who had risen from his seat with a salute and then made good is formal arrival as an officer of the USS Spectre with a standard 'reporting in' announcement. The fact that the ship was actually missing at this moment in time was neither here nor there of course and the Ensign was simply following protocol, given their current situation though, there was probably no need for formalities right now but the Captain respected the gesture nonetheless and wasted no time in availing himself of the shuttles scanners. "Thank you Ensign", he said with a nod as he quickly moved towards the console and began inputting commands to re-target the Spectre and assess it's overall condition as a matter of urgency. Scanners were reporting hull breaches on a number of decks and minimal power to most systems, apparently though she was laying upright on the bottom and the landing struts had deployed, communications however were still out. The Captain pondered for a brief moment what could have caused such a catastrophic loss of orbital placement and a failure on such a large scale, the options though were many but the most likely, given the fact that all of their key systems had been affected and the individual crew combadges were still non responding.... it had to be an EMP weapon of some sort, for it seemed that the ship had been turned into one giant faraday cage. The Captain resumed scanning with haste, the results of which were equally worrying in that sensors were indeed confirming the earlier report of another vessel close at hand, and a number of lifeform readings external to it's location! The Captain stood and then turned about to face Ensign Tchaikovsky, his cold Vulcan detachment in evidence now as ever it was. "Ensign Tchaikovsky, I'm afraid I will have to ask you to remain on board the shuttle for a little while longer", said the Captain. "As the only platform capable of active beamout of personnel, I will need someone up here when the need arises", he added. (Reply Tchaikovsky) "The bridge is apparently still dry and occupied, it is there that I will require you to beam me", he answered whilst already moving to the equipment locker to obtain a standard issue phasor, which he duly clipped to his side. He tried to get a fix on the number of boarders but the sensors were being affected by the salt water and nothing was coming through the feeds to the cargo bay. "Sorry Sir, we can't scan the affected area, the Internal sensors are not designed to be water proof." “Red alert. Barac secured all the doors leading from the newly flooded areas. "Sir, if they can breach the outer hull, then the airlock doors are not going to keep them out for long." Barac had been trying to determine how many boarders had entered the ship and looked up as spoke, Andrew was speaking to someone else so he quit speaking “We are being boarded Lieutenant. get yourself to a secure location.” He looked at Storm. “Take a detachment of marines and security down to cargo bay 2 and get those intruders off my ship Mr Storm.” Barac was leaving the tac station as answered, "On my way there Sir." As he left the bridge he commed the Marines. "I need three teams in Heavy BDU to repel boarders at the shuttle bay, Marine dropship hangar, and cargo bay 2. Have them expect to be underwater and prepared for close quarters. I would advise setting up blocking points for containment, No one from our crew is in any of the areas, so proceed with aggression." (Reply any Marines?) Barac had reached the security locker near the bridge by the time he finished his requests. He donned the Heavy BDU gear and a Pallas helmet and sealed up his suit. He was wearing a type IID phaser pistol already so grabbed a bandolier of five Photon IIB grenades and a Type IIIC phaser rifle then took off at a dead run for the Cargo Bay. He had to cover three decks before the boarders got through the inner door. The Marines were coming from the opposite direction so hopefully they could catch the intruders in a crossfire. If they could reach the doors in time. "Marine squad leader, this is Ensign Storm I will be approaching opposite your team, hold position in sight of the cargo bay doors but do not close in. When those doors are breached water is going to enter the area with force. So make sure you have secure magnetic lock to the deck and are not in a direct line to the flow. Good luck Major." (reply marine squad leader?) Barac reached the corridor before the cargo bay doors were breached. He found an alcove for a computer access station that should break the floods impact and secured his feet and back to the deck and wall respectively. He saw the sergeant and waved, the Sergeant pumped his weapon once then moved out of sight. Already, the marines had been on standby and split into three groups of six per team awaiting the final order to deploy, they had also just spent the last few minutes pulling up charts on the jefferies tubes in the vicinity of the most likely points of entry. The call had just come in from the ATAC/ASC, who had reported himself as in transit whilst recommending suitable tactics to deal with their boarders, geared as they had been to the alerts that had already come in. Kowalski hauled his own IIIC rifle onto his shoulder and then lowered the faceplate of his Pallas helmet in readiness, then he began hollering in true time honoured marine fashion! "OK people, get your sorry lazy asses into gear, we have hostiles reported in a flooded Cargo bay Two, the enemy is suitably equipped for water and will no doubt be immune to gas attack", said Kowalski. "Houseman, you are second squad leader, take your team to subsection four.... Tierny, you lead squad three to the aft support position and report when in place", he shouted. Kowalski frowned momentarily in response to the fleeters recommendations, but said nothing. After all, they were hardly used to people explaining to them how to deal with boarders on a starship... god only knew they'd done it enough times already. "We are en route to deck 14 now, will be in position in three minutes", said the MXO as he and his men ran through the corridors in neat formation, their rifles at the ready and little else but repelling the boarders now fixed firmly within their minds. ~Don't teach your granny to suck eggs Ensign~ thought Kowalski, then he verbalised the thought to Houseman over the secure marine channel. He knew that it was the best course of action. He had no knowledge of the Spectre: its crew or its schematics. Going down there in what could easily be the midst of an ongoing assault could endanger the crew and himself. Not that he was a coward, of course, but he knew he was better suited to monitor the situation and provide beam outs when required. "The bridge is apparently still dry and occupied, it is there that I will require you to beam me", T'Vhor answered whilst already moving to the equipment locker to obtain a standard issue phasor, which he duly clipped to his side. "Captain to Lieutenant Commander Capps" (Reply Capps) "I will be beaming onto the bridge of the Spectre shortly, sensors have confirmed a hostile presence in the vicinity, possibly an assault squad of some sort... please have Director Nortak deploy his security teams the moment you are close enough to do so", said the Captain. (Reply Capps) "I would imagine that the Marines have already been mobilized... assuming that they are fit to mobilize of course", said the Captain as he moved to stand on the transport pad in readiness. (Reply Capps) "Understood, Captain out. Mr Tchaikovsky.... energize please", said the Captain. Nico looked into the Captain's eyes and made sure what he was doing was being done with a level head. Nico realised T'Vhor was fully prepared for what may come at him down there. Here was a man who was a born leader. He could see it in his poise. "Good luck, sir," Nico said. "Energising." And then the Captain was gone. As soon as the beams had dissipated, Nico turned his attention back to the sensors. He scanned the space around the shuttle, but there was no sign of any enemy craft. He turned the sensors down towards the Spectre, and noted the breaches in the hull again. (Reply: None) (Posted by Ben) (Vedea IV - Figard Pod - TAC/SC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps - 11:16) The pods had made it to the Spectre and it was a horrific sight. "Look sir," said Adams point towards a small boarding party near shuttle bay two. "What can we do from here to help out?" Calvin watched in horror as he saw the outer bay doors open allowing water to flood the inside of the Spectre. He could also clearly see what Adams was pointing to, and it seemed that the boarding party was un-aware of their presence for now. Shooting any type of weapons from the pods at the Spectre was no good, so there was only one thing they could do. "Suit up, we're going swimming," Calvin said. He turned to one of the Vedean officers. "We need under water weapons." "Sorry Lt Cmdr," Sooma began. "We were ordered not to hand Vedean weapons over to you." The Vedean officer was obviously nervous and was just following orders. "Who gave you that order?" "Director Nortak," the Vedean officer said. Calvin couldn't be upset with an officer doing his duty however the situation called for a little discretion. "I understand your orders, I may have placed the same restrictions on Starfleet weapons. However, in this case I strongly urge you to see that my ship, my crew is being attacked and we need to help." Sooma looked confused, conflicted in what his decision should be. Calvin didn't have time and it went against everything he would want to do. "I need those weapons, and I will take them if I have to." He felt horrible even as he said it. There would be consequences for this. "That will not be necessary," Sooma said. "We will help." Sooma then radioed to the rest of the pods to suit up. Calvin turned to his crew. "Dr. Huval, I realize this is a little bit out of our safety box but you will give support to any medical situation that may occur. You will also carry extra air tanks. Lt Adams, I need you to best plan how we should enter the cargo bay and make sure it is safe to do. Once we are in you will need to continue to monitor if it is safe to proceed before we make any sudden movements. For the rest of us we will be getting rid of the vermin on my ship." (reply Huval, Adams, any) Calvin began to suit up as he tapped his badge. "Capps to T'Vhor." Silence was all Calvin heard from his commbadge. He tapped it again and received the same silence as before. His commbadge was unable to connect to the Spectre so his team would just be a nice surprise. He scanned the suits indicators to see that all the seals were water tight. "The use of deady force has been sanctioned, we shoot to kill people.... Move out!", As Houseman moved his squad out, he heard Ensign Storm come over the tactcal comm system. =/\="Marine squad leader, this is Ensign Storm I will be approaching opposite your team, hold position in sight of the cargo bay doors but do not close in=/\= "We are en route to deck 14 now, will be in position in three minute.” "Anybody think we'd never had to throw anyone off a starship before" Houseman grinned. “Nice to have something so do Sir.” "Hell, I needed a good bath anyway.... did anyone bring a rubber ducky?" “I may have some water wings somewhere Sir?” He moved quickly weapon up and ready to help persuade the intruders that this was not a good place to be. (Reply Any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 11:16) The Captain materialized somewhat unexpectedly on the Specte's bridge to the accompaniment of yet another alert, this time signalling his own unnanounced beam in. After a sudden verbal call from an as yet unidentified Ensign from behind him reporting 'Captain on the bridge', he quickly ordered the alert closed down, whilst glancing about at the various damaged consoles at Science two and auxiliary engineering. Then he got to work. "Report", he said, and the remaining bridge officers quickly began appraising him of their full and unabridged situational status. (Reply Williams, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Vedea IV - Figard Pod - ACEO, Lieutenant JG Christopher Adams - 11:17) "Suit up, we're going swimming," stated Lieutenant Commander Calvin Capps to the occupants of the Figard Pod. Lieutenant Christopher Adams silently gulped. ~It can't be more different than zero-g training. Right?~ he thought. While Commander Capps talked with one of the Vedean officers about procuring some weaponry, Adams started looking at the diving equipment, of which there was very little. Evolving on a planet which was mostly water, gave the Vedeans an advantage over the Starfleet officers. In addition to breathing an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere, they were equipped with gills on the sides of their necks which allowed them to breath underwater. But even growing up on a planet with all water, there were limitations. The Spectre was resting sixty-four thousand feet under water. If they stepped out in standard diving equipment, they were be crushed by the weight of the water. Adams explained the issues he foresaw to one of the other Vedeans on board. "This is not a problem," stated the Vedean pilot. He pulled out a large piece of what looked like plastic from a nearby hatch and pushed a few buttons on the surface. In a few seconds the piece of plastic had reconfigured itself into a giant environmental suit. "What about air?" asked Adams quietly. "These suits are rated to withstand the pressure at this depth. They have limited mobility, but should allow you to maneuver to your ship. There is no need for oxygen tanks. It pulls the oxygen right out of the water and converts it to breathable air. The carbon dioxide that you breath out will be expelled through these ports." Commander Capps then spoke up. "Dr. Huval, I realize this is a little bit out of our safety box but you will give support to any medical situation that may occur. You will also carry extra air tanks. Lt Adams, I need you to best plan how we should enter the cargo bay and make sure it is safe to do. "It doesn't look like we are going to need air tanks," replied Adams. Pointing out the environmental suit which he was now standing next to. "I suggest we come down from above and enter through the hole they just blasted through. They shouldn't be expecting us at all. Once we are inside, I will have to assess the condition of the ship. The Vedean shuttle pilot had just transformed a sheet of what looked like plastic into a deep sea diving suit. What had looked like plastic was actually tiny little organisms which the Vedeans had learned to program and change them into almost anything. We have no idea if she even has power." “I will board with you then make my way via the Jefferies Tubes to Sickbay," stated Doctor Huval. "That is, if Adams thinks it is safe to do so.” "That's going to be hard to tell," explained Adams. "Right now the ship looks dark and they might not even have main power. If that's the case, no force fields. Once the intruders blew the cargo bay hatch, the ship is probably slowly filling up with water from deck 14 all the way up. The bad thing is that the warp core is on deck 13. If engineering and the anti-matter pods aren't isolated from the flood, we could be in serious trouble." Commander Calvin Capps decided to try and contact the captain, but was only greeted with silence. It was an ominous sign. With a renewed sense of urgency, Adams began to climb into his newly formed underwater diving suit. Ordinarilly, one might have expected the Captain to ask what the hell had happened in orbit that had caused the ship to fall into the sea!, as it was though, that explanation would have to wait until later. Once the requested reports were in from the First officer, the Captain quickly swang into action. Cargo bay two and the assault thereof was the primary concern right now, all other considerations had to wait as nobody was sure what the invaders were actually seeking to do. "We cannot allow the ship to flood any further", said the Captain, "do we have enough power to fortify the forcefields in that area?", he asked. (Reply Williams, Any) "Once the doors are opened, which inevitably they will be, we will need to contain any ingress....... transfer auxiliary power to the forcefields", ordered the Captain. (Reply Any) It seemed that the order could not have been made a moment too soon, for immediately it was actioned the bridge monitors registered the bay doors being blown and a resultant surge, albeit brief, of water running in and then levelling approximately knee deep throughout the corridor beyond it. After that, the alerts began again as phasor fire began in earnest, the marines now opening up on whoever it was that had just gatecrashed their party. The Captain furrowed his brow, then he hailed Lieutenant H'Chir in earnest. "Captain to H'Chir" The response was slow in coming, but eventually, the slurred voice of the Andorian made itself known through the comms system. =/\=H'Chir here sir..... Another delay in response, then the Andorian answered. =/\=One... moment sir, main p-power will be.....=/\= Then the comms fell silent, but the bridge was now monitoring a manual warp core startup signalling that the CEO had managed to deliver. Teverine was getting frustrated with what equipment was on offer in the Vedean Laboratory he really needed to get his hands on his own laboratory. Knowing if he had access he would not need it as he and his crew mates would not be in this present pickle. Sighing to himself he looked up. He had been briefed earlier on about the shuttle and this would be an ideal situation to use Starfleet technology and not the biological laboratory where he was. (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Outside Cargo Bay 2 - MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski - 11:21) The moment the doors had breached was not a moment too soon, indeed, if they had gone a second or two beforehand then they would all be attempting to gain purchase now amidst a corridor swirling with the cold water of the Vedean sea as it quickly ensconsed and overwhelmed them. As it was, the forcefield had gone up almost immediately outside the doors, thus allowing only a small amount of water to flood the corridor before it became held behind the impenetrable wall of the level ten forcefield. Unfortunately, the same could not be said about the hostile assailants that had boarded the ship though, for most of the attacking team had surged through and had quickly ducked into the niches of the coriddor itself for cover. Only two had not made it through before the field went up, those in turn remaining trapped behind in cargo bay two's now completely flooded interior. The Marines then began concentrating on those that were in.... With a raise of his III-C to his shoulder, Kowalski gave the order to fire at will, his own rifle picking out targets in the TACOM and locking onto the nearest ones as repeated three shot pulses streamed down the coriddor and at the enemy. One fell instantly, the phased pulse ripping through his body armour and knocking him off his feet with a splash as his body hit the pooled water. The enemy though were quick to respond, a woman immediately returning fire and then hiding once again as the rest of the hostiles joined in the mellee of ricocheting shots that were now bouncing up and down the coriddor. In seconds, it became apparent though that a kind of stalemate had been reached as each side realized that they were now matched, TACOM to TACOM with neither gaining purchase over the other.... A silence then prevailed, briefly. "Ah, radiological alarm, the ship is hot... I’m detecting moderate levels of radioactivity on the hull." "Is there anything we can do to guard ourselves against it?" asked the lieutenant. The doctor scanned the suits with his tricorder. "Well, these suits should block most of the ruff stuff, but I would advise caution, hang on." He pulled out a hyprospray from his med it and pushed in a clear plastic nodule onto the end. He moved over and injected Adams and then Lieutenant Commander Capps. "There, let's suit up!" (reply Capps) "Mr. Capps, you must be dreaming that I would stay here," stated Huval. "My place is on that ship. Let’s go." (reply Capps) Adams continued to put the suit on with a little help from the Vedeans. When the helmet was placed on and sealed on his head, the inside lit up illuminating his face. There were readouts reflecting on the inside of the helmet as a heads-up display, but all of the information was in a different symbolic language he couldn't read. He slowly reached down and picked up his tricorder. He held it up to his face to make sure he would still be able to read it once they got out. Adams then folded it up and held on to it. "I'm ready," stated Adams. It appeared that the suits had an inner-suit communication system so that the three of them could communicate. Communications were still knocked out within the downed ship, probably the result of some kind of EMP weapon. There was some radio traffic from the planet itself and Nico half-listened to some of the communications. He wondered whether this was some kind of initiation, some kind of April Fool's joke. The date was like a blazing reminder that such things were possible, although the rational part of his mind ruled it out. The Captain had been quite serious about the unfolding disaster. =/\= This is Ensign Teverine Tolqu to Ensign Nico Tchaikovsky please beam me up =/\= The chirping of his commbadge surprised Nico and he straightened, focussing back on the sensor runs. He had given the Spectre's crew manifest a once over en route to the ship, but he didn't remember the names just yet. He tapped his own badge. "Yes sir," he said, reflexively, scrambling back to the transporter array. He identified the Ensign's signature using the transporter's sensors and then beamed him aboard, as per the standing orders of the Captain. It was, Nico was happy to note, a good feeling to be useful. Teverine materialised on board and reached out to shake Nico's hand, a smile on his face. “Thank you Ensign. Now let’s see what we can do to help our sunken comrades.” Nico smiled back at him and shook his hand. "I've been running scans to try and identify all the parties involved, but seriously it's difficult without having communications with the bridge." “Does this shuttle have the capability to submerge?” Nico wasn't sure. He cast a glance at the controls and then at the viewscreen. "Ahh... honestly I don't know. I'm more of a people person," he smiled. "You want to take a look?" Nico waved to the controls. "I've got orders from the captain to remain in orbit, though, to act as an emergency retrieval system. There's no point dropping us down there and getting into the same trouble, at least while we have no real idea about what's going on inside the Spectre." Teverine mused for a moment before looking up. Moving quickly over to the screen he tapped in various commands and waited as the scanners probed the murky waters of the ocean below. “Quite high levels of radiation are emitting from around the ship. Harmless to the crew, as long as they do not have long term exposure.” "And let's hope this won't be a long term situation," Nico added. "There's been some kind of secondary attack, so I'm thinking whatever happens next will happen rather quickly." Teverine paused and then suddenly looked at Nico, which was kind of surprising - in a good way. Nico always liked it when people had sudden ideas - it usually meant a stalemate would be passed. Sometimes, of course, the change wasn't always good. Still, Nico was optimistic that Teverine might be about to offer something good. “Have you heard of The Starfish Prime test?” Nico shook his head, waiting for the punch line. "No, sorry, but it sounds like a line from a joke. I'm thinking that the punch line involves some brilliant tactical plan, right?" He was smiling too, now, although he had no idea what the plan was. “On the night of July 9, 1962 in Honolulu on Earth the eminent physicist Dr. Lowell Wood tested the first ever EMP bomb. Not knowing anything about the technology he slightly over did the explosion…” Teverine smirked and Nico thought he looked like a little boy about to find out a way to break into the local candy store. The man's nose ridges seemed to accentuate his laugh lines. ~I like this guy~ he thought. “Not only did it expand knocking out radio stations miles away it also caused a huge radiation cloud from the detonating device. This caused a dome of radiation to settle over the area it exploded. Almost like a shield blocking any communication in or out of the testing site.” "Ohh-kay," Nico said slowly, still not seeing the connection. "So the radiation is the key to the problem, not the ... ah... first attck?" “Exactly! So if we can realign our scanners to detect what type of Radiation is blocking our transmissions to the Spectre we can be of better use and more prepared. It’s not the EMP that is always the problem it’s what other things it causes, if we can detect what type of radiation wave length it is sending out we can nullify it, allowing the Spectre to at least be able to communicate again if nothing else.” "okay, so you're a genius, Ensign Tolqu," Nico said, actually quite impressed. "As long as this works," he added with a grin, but giving the other man lots of room to work the console. "Of course, if you're wrong, you could be a mad genius. Win-win situation, really, right?" There were many sub systems around, but the best place to take control of for a diversion would probably be... Main engineering. ~Nah, it's to important. Somewhere else withing 3 decks and important, but a sub system...~ The sound of more shots ahead emerged. ~Damn, they got us on two angles...~ He activated his intercom link to the commander. "Hey, watch your back. There are more marines coming from behind, ETA to you about 5 minutes after they get trough us. Around 6 of them." Saest almost turned the corner of the corridor, but the sound of a comrade hitting the floor made him change his mind. He remembered an entrance to the jeffries tubes system a little back. ~Wait for them to pass and then get them from behind...~ Saest quickly backtracked to the entrance of the tube, closing it behind him and waiting, listening for news of the second contact from the others on the intercom. Adams started slowly plodding his way down the ramp which led to the dark Vedean ocean. He couldn't help but hold his breath as his helmet started to go down below the surface of the water. The vastness of the ocean opened up before him once his eyes were below the water. This deep down, the water was a very dark blue, but the Spectre could now be more clearly seen. The ship's running lights were now on and various windows in the ships were now illuminated. "They must have restored main power," said Adams over the inner-suit communication system. "That's a good sign." (reply Huval, Capps) Adams reached the edge of the platform and stepped off. He started to slowly descend into the depths of the ocean. He noticed a blue flashing light from a panel on his left arm. Adams held it up to his face and pressed the blue button. A series of tiny jets shot out from the sides of each leg and his back. It slowed his descent and brought him back up level with the others. "Appears that the suits have maneuvering jets," Adams informed the others pointing at his left arm. "There's controls on this arm panel." (reply Huval, Capps) "Shall we go?" Adams asked. "Looks like the boarding party has completely entered the ship. If the power's been restored, then there's probably emergency force fields in place in the bay in order to prevent the onrush of the water. I may have to do some work in order to get us through and not allow any of the water to get in the ship." (reply Huval, Capps, any) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 11:23) The mood on the bridge right now could have been cut with a proverbial knife but with main power now back online, the Captain at least had the luxury of being able to order the supplementary forcefields outside cargo bay two to assist in the shielding of the Marines as they battled the intruders. The Spectre class, like most ships of the line was fitted with emmiter points at the junctions of all of it's corridors, and these could normally be used to move a forcefield up and down a corridor, thus herding unwanted intrudors in whatever direction a Captain might choose. Unfortunately though, the control circuitry associated with the timing required for such practices had been fried in the attack, and now all they could do was maintain the wall and simply contain the battle in one place.... for now anyway. Surveillance though was still working and with the luxury of a functioning warp core providing power throughout, the Captain could now see the battle zone clearly enough to observe the individual features of the squad that had gained entry via the cargobay, despite the partial concealments of their HUD faceplates! The CO eyed them all curiously, wondering what motive they could possibly have for attacking a Federation starship, and why they seemed intent on finishing the ship off after their companions had left the scene. All queries drew a blank for the moment, but as the CO scrutinized the proceedings, his eye fell upon one combatant in particular. At first the Captain wasn't quite sure, one face though clearly stood out now above all the rest as he continued to observe it. A woman, a seemingly familiar woman, one he had assumed was entirely 'off the radar' as far as Starfleet were concerned, was now apparently there in their midst and evidently eager to achieve a means of a sort. The Captain settled back into his seat as the proverbial penny suddenly dropped and he realized who he was looking at, then he hailed the First officer. "Bridge to Commander Williams" (Reply Williams) "What is Lieutenant H'Chir's condition Commander?", queried the Captain, his first thoughts now for the welfare of the CEO. (Reply Williams) "Understood, the forcefields are holding in the area outside cargobay two and the hostiles are currently pinned down. One of them however bears a familiar face", said the Captain, finally broaching the subject of the woman he had espied. (Reply Williams) "It would appear to be your Sister Andrew", said the Captain, his eyebrow rising now as the seemingly illogical sentence gained purchase within his own logical mind. The only main conversation he had ever had with his Captain was to be dressed down for his behaviour that ended up with him being incarcerated in a Starbase Brig. "As long as this works," Not noticing Teverine’s discomfort he grinned at him "Of course, if you're wrong, you could be a mad genius. Win-win situation, really, right?" Teverine lost his smile as he looked at Ensign Tchaikovsky. “Not for those trapped on board the Spectre it isn’t Ensign.” (Reply Tchaikovsky) He did not mean to be so abrupt but the weight of his guilt at not being able to help enough was becoming almost over baring. Teverine only wanted to get his crew mates out of this trouble and get back on board the Spectre and to his now beloved Laboratory. He knew now why his instructors guided him towards Science, but if he had been quicker maybe the Captain and the others would not have gone on ahead, but simply communicated with everyone with much greater ease. “Ok let’s get working Nico I need you to check the Lateral scanners to see the exact frequency of the gamma radiation that is surrounding the Spectre” (Reply Tchaikovsky) Teverine purposely used Tchaikovsky first name trying to let him know that his abruptness was not directly his fault. Teverine mentally went over what he might have to do and how this could be undone. Speaking out loud as much for his benefit than any for the Ensign next to him. “A gamma-ray can do a few basic things with matter. It can collide with an electron and bounce off it like a pool ball, so basically the Ships hull is acting like a huge pool table keeping the gamma radiation attached to the Ship’s hull but deflecting any kind of electronic penetration, what we need to do is push an electron to a higher energy level causing photoelectric ionization.” (Reply Tchaikovsky) “If we can recalibrate the deflector to an energized beam that sends hydrogen atoms irradiated by microwaves this should cause a large ionization peak which would effectively punch a hole through the radiation and start dissipating it allowing us communications.” (Reply Tchaikovsky) Teverine nodded and started reconfiguring the deflector as Tchaikovsky took the helm and the main control of the shuttle, after a few minutes of work Teverine looked up at the expectant Ensign. “Ok Ensign. Aim the deflector beam directly at the ship and let’s hope I have done this right.” (Reply Tchaikovsky) (Posted by Peter Richards) (USS Spectre – Main Engineering – FO, Williams - 11:25) Andrew had reached H’Chir as fast as he could. He seemed desperate to make this work, and the quick rebuke about taking the situation seriously made Nico feel as if there was more to this than he could see. He knew Teverine was Ornaran and Nico wondered what was going on under the surface and whether it had anything to do with his culture. "Okay," Teverine said. "Let's get working, Nico. I need you to check the lateral scanners to see the exact frequency of the gamma radiation that is surrounding the Spectre." "Right," Nico said, happy to see Teverine's brighter side surface again. "That's 'our' lateral scanners, right?" When he caught Teverine's eyes he shrugged. "Sorry, Tev," he said. "I'm good at psychology but I'm not a natural when it comes to shuttle operations or physics and..." He smiled. "Our lateral scanners? Right?" He moved to another console and ran a basic diagnostic, checking the gamma radiation levels. "Do people call you Tev?" he asked. "I'm not all that familiar with Ornaran culture and naming conventions." (Reply: Teverine) Nico nodded and checked the results. "Come and have a look," he said. "We've got some gamma radiation here alright. What do you make of it?" (Reply: Teverine iyw) “A gamma-ray can do a few basic things with matter. She was so caught up in the discussion that she did not right away see that the sensors were coming back on line with the main power. Turning to face the panel she gasped. Then with a flurry of finger taps she regained control of the board. “Tactical, we have sensors. Palettes nine through twenty and thirty through thirty four are back online. It’s not much but we’re not quite so blind anymore.” (Reply Tactical, iyw) After the affirmative from Tactical, she began tracking through the situation. She detected some unusual radiation levels on the hull of the Spectre. ~Probably what knocked us out~ “Captain,” (Reply T’Vhor) “Sir, I am detecting elevated levels of radioactivity on the hull, most likely from an electro-magnetic pulse of some type. It would be sequence to the shock that knocked us out.” (Reply T’Vhor) “Aye sir, we could nullify the radiation if we used the main deflector...” she stopped, a energy pulse of some kind originating from orbit began pelting the ship. It carried the signature of small shuttle craft’s deflector dish. She tracked the origin. Just on the edge of their currently limited sensor horizon was the Barwon. “Sir, I must correct my last,” she said feeling relieved, “It seems someone up there likes us. The Barwon is using a modification on their deflector dish to ‘clean’ us as it were, radiation levels are dropping rapidly.” (Reply T’Vhor) “Aye sir I will keep you informed.” (Reply T’Vhor) (Reply T’Vhor, Tactical, Any) (Posted by Bobby Pirie) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 11:28) The news that there was now some form of salvation by way of the Federation shuttle now sitting in orbit monitoring them, came as a great relief to the bridge crew of the Spectre itself. The Captain had of course taken the time to brief them of how he had beamed aboard it and had then managed to beam down utilizing it's transporter, that fact alone had proved a morale booster to all but the sudden announcement from the science officer at science one though broke the modicum of calm that had just ensued on the bridge. It went without saying that they were not out of the woods yet and even though the ship now had a running warp core, some of the Spectre's key systems were not yet fully operational.... until now that is. Ensign Hightower, had just alerted tactical to the fact that a large swathe of their sensor palettes had just gone online, it was a welcome surprise and the Captain immediately ordered them put to use so that they could get a better understanding of exactly where they now were. As for the science officer, it seemed that she was not resting upon her laurels either, but had immediately begun scanning also, noting as she did so something very peculiar... peculiar enough even to immediately alert the Captain. "Ensign?", enquired the CO as he turned his attention towards her query. “Sir, I am detecting elevated levels of radioactivity on the hull, most likely from an electro-magnetic pulse of some type. It would be sequence to the shock that knocked us out.”, said the science officer, clearly pondering the possibilities. The Captain paused also before answering, radiation was never something to be taken lightly and it needed to be dealt with quickly if it were to be rpevented from bringing the crew to harm. Was it coming from them... or from outside he wondered. The first priority though was to deal with the radiation at source, then they would find out where it came from. "Are we able to neutralize this radiation Ensign?", asked the CO. “Aye sir, we could nullify the radiation if we used the main deflector...", began the Science officer, before suddenly trailing off as she returned to her console, something clearly important enough to have caught her attention. "Is there another problem Ensign?", enquired the Captain, and the Science officer quickly responded with another snippet of welcome news. “Sir, I must correct my last.......It seems someone up there likes us. The Barwon is using a modification on their deflector dish to ‘clean’ us as it were, radiation levels are dropping rapidly”, said Hightower. "Excellent, with the surface radiation dissipating, communication with the outside world should be resumed soon", said the Captain as he quickly began accessing his armrest console. "Keep me updated on the Barwon's progress Ensign", he added. “Aye sir I will keep you informed”, said Hightower as she returned to her console once again. It seemed though that the Captain did not need to wait very long before evidence of the Barwon's successful 'cleaning' made itself known. A garbled broadcast, the static hiss and crackle evident as it fought against the remaining electromagnetic variance of the residual surface radiation on the hull of the ship, words though could clearly be heard! =/\=This is...... Tolqu... tain T'Vhor........ you read me?=/\= The Captain wasted no time of course, but was mildly surprised that it had been Tolqu's voice coming through and not Ensign Tchaikovsky, indeed as far as he was aware, Ensign Tolqu was still at Na'Jea city. Logic however clearly dictated that he was not.... "Ensign Tolqu, this is Captain T'Vhor. Do you have full transport capability without the need for pattern enhancement?", asked the Captain. At that time, the turbolift door opened, and Aldlar turned quickly, startling the fellow ensign that walked in. 'Woah, watch that thing!' "Sorry. I saw the intruder alert and thought to be ready..." A slight pause emerged between the two engineers. 'Yes well... I'm here to hold the battle bridge should it be needed later. The EMH ordered me down here so you could have your arm looked over. Teverine felt a surge of pride and elation, it was working, and he knew it was, he had hoped all along this would work, but here it was on the screen. Looking up he knew his smile mirrored Nico’s smile. “Ok Ensign. Aim the deflector beam directly at the ship and let’s hope I have done this right.” “Here goes everything. Teverine continuously compensated his variations on the console to ensure the beam was concentrated on the Spectre’s hull without any fluxuations. He nodded at Nico. “How are the readings?” (Reply Tchaikovsky) Teverine nodded and tapped his Comm Badge. =/\= This is Ensign Tolqu to Captain T’Vhor can you read me?” (Reply T’Vhor) As the radiation depleted Teverine could see the scanners show the full details of the troubles on board the ship. Teverine barely suppressed a smile, as he glanced up and met Nico’s eye. ~ Yes!! ~ As he focused his attention back onto the screen, attempting to clean up the transmission, if he could focus his transmission through the central part of the beam he should be able to get a clear communication between the shuttle and the ship set up. Teverine tapped in a few commands diverting the transmission into a narrower beam width and piggybacking it onto the deflector pulsing onto the ship’s hull, he hoped they should be able to read him loud and clear. “Ok Tchaikovsky let’s try again.” (Reply Tchaikovsky) Though Teverine got the general idea of the conversation, the radiation depletion was working but too slowly for Teverine’s liking. ~ If only Tabitha could work out what I am doing she could realign the ships deflector to the right wave length. ~ “Sir this is Ensign Tolqu, can you read me clearer now Sir?” ~ I should have told him I transported on board. ~ “I thought I could be of better use with Federation technology Sir” Teverine quickly followed. They had swam for minutes before they were able to reach the cargo bay hatch. They now stood directly outside of it peering inside and Calvin needed to give the order to enter. The hole compared to the chief’s body was 3 times his size. The new underwater suit that was given to him thanks to Vedean technology was nothing short of amazing. As soon as he had it the water if felt like a vacuum has sucked any type of air out of it. The suit fit around his body well and took the shape of it. However the suit did hinder movement just like a zero-g one did. With the Vedean weapon in hand he gave the order. “You two,” he said to the Vedeans, “take the right. The rest of us will go left.” Calvin knew what the cargo bay looked like and he had thought of how they should enter already. Nico's interest in science lay in anthropology and, to a lesser extent, oceanography and geography. The hard sciences were more alien to him. As Tev worked, Nico noticed conflicting emotions cross his face. When he spoke with the Captain he seemed to become uncertain, as if there were tensions already there. There was a formal chain of command in Starfleet, and many believed that to be its founding strength; but Nico knew that there were always exeptions to the rule, no matter what the rule was. He wondered how the Captain would see the rule-bending Tev once the crisis was over. Turning to Nico, Teverine finally smiled with genuine happiness. Nico managed to relax a little too, mirroring Tev's posture. “Won’t be long now until we get you onboard.” "I'm seriously not that concerned about getting on board," Nico said, laughing a little. He looked at the viewscreen to where the ocean planet seemed to hang in space. "I love the ocean, you know, and would prefer to be surfing it up along some jagged coastline, but right now I think I'd prefer to be here in space rather than thousands of feet below the ocean's surface with raiders boarding." On the far side of the cargo bay a force field held back the Vedean sea from rushing into the rest of the ship. About two thirds of the room was completely filled with water while the other side of the force field was fairly dry. Cargo containers floated at the top of the room. ~Looks like they got the force fields working just in time,~ thought Adams. ~The boarding party must have slipped through before the force fields came up.~ (reply Huval) =^=Where are they?=^= came Lieutenant Commander Capps's voice over the suit's communication system. Adams nodded and slowly floated in the direction that the commander indicated. He came around the corner of one of the cargo shelving units and could now clearly see the intruders. They were facing the other direction and didn't see the Federation officers yet. Adams pulled up the Vedean weapon to his faceplate and the heads-up-display on the visor synced up with the weapon and indicated the trajectory of his shot. "Sir," stated Adams. "I have a clear shot. Should I take it?" (reply Capps, Huval, anyone who wants to play the Vedean officers) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Deck 14, Cargo Bay 2 - Lieutenant JG Christopher Adams - 11:37) Outlines of the two intruders were highlighted on Lieutenant Christopher Adams's heads-up display in his helmet. "Sir," stated Adams. "I have a clear shot. Should I take it?" (reply Capps) The lieutenant held his breath and squeezed out a shot from the Vedean weapon he was carrying. It hit just over the intruder's head. He missed. Now alerted to their away team's presence, they started to return fire. (reply Huval, Capps) Adams nodded and started floating up towards the ceiling of the cargo bay. He aimed back down and hit one of the intruders in the shoulder making him stumble backwards and drop his weapon, which started to float away. The Vedean officers started firing as well catching the two intruders in a cross fire. After a few minutes of weapon exchange, the final intruder knew he was out matched. His partner was floating nearby stunned and he was getting fire from two sides and from above. He let go of his weapon and raised his hands in the air. We need to move forward or we are dead~ “Push forward. Use grenades.” She fired a couple of shots at the closing marines. Her motion detector suddenly blinked to life as the she saw two groups heading from behind. ~Time to make this interesting~ She pulled out grenades and threw them towards the marines and the flanking teams. As they exploded she fired her phaser rifle as she dashed to catch up with the rest of her squad. The few medical assistants tried to move him along to sooner treatment, But Aldlar held back, waiting for any others in sickbay that were in more serious condition to be treated first. He waited a few minutes, waiting to be addressed once he was sure that there weren't any others that needed treatment more, wondering exactly what was going on. ~I know we were knocked out by some kind of EMP. And we've got intruders... We've got power back, but still have system failures that might end up helping them...~ (Reply, EMH, Any) "Yeah. I'll say it's broken. Pretty much, I just need it set so I can be returned to duty ASAP." (Reply, any) (Posted by: John) (USS Spectre - Outside Cargo Bay 2 - MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski - 11:38) The very mention of the word 'Grenades', made the MXO's ears prick up, whilst his own squads were reluctant to use them at close quarters, this squad was clearly not afraid to risk their own lives in getting to whatever it was they were trying to get to... and there was very little that was more terrifying than an enemy that was not afraid to die. Shades of Klingon entered into Kowalski's otherwise 'monotone' colour scheme, and in an instance he let out the cry... "Fire in the hold!", just as two II-B photon grenades were lobbed in their general directions. Nobody knew exactly what the timers had been set to of course, but it was probably safe to say that given the nature of the attack, and the vehemence of the actual attackers, it was more than likely the two second option. Either way Kowalski knew that the only thing between him and an E-Pulse now was a forcefield that might collapse at any time, and if that hadn't been in place.... a five metre distance would be all that might protect him! The Marines took cover wherever they could, just in case. Then they waited for the inevitable.... (Reply Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - Medic, Ensign Talor Del'ann - 11:39) Sickbay was now at capacity, crewmen having appeared almost steadily since the ship fell from orbit and then sank beneath the water. Del'ann had been busy the entire time whilst the EMH assisted as best it could and negotiated teams to wherever they might be needed. Right now though, she had finalised a particularly awkward field type repair of a Science officer's femoral artery, the blood from which had sprayed all across the front of her own uniform. With the blood now stemmed and the crewmen off the critical list, Del'ann had turned about to note an Engineering Ensign arriving through the doors, his arm clearly broken as he held it in the grip of his other 'good' arm. In an instance another medic had attempted to give him the attention he needed, but in a resolute display of self sacrifice, the Ensign turned the help away, directing them instead to more needy cases that he felt were more worthy. For a moment or two, Del'ann stood by, then with a shake of her head she approached the Ensign forthrightly. "You need that looked at now crewmen, it's clearly broken", she exclaimed. "Yeah. I'll say it's broken. Pretty much, I just need it set so I can be returned to duty ASAP", came the response from the Engineer. Del'Ann took a deep breath and let out a sigh. She had seen the type before of course, all muscle and gung ho attitude... 'Just stitch me up and let me get back to the front line' sort of mannerism, and it didn't wash! Immediately, the young medic ran her medical scanner over the Ensign's exposed arm, then after remarking as to what had happened to the missing sleeve of his tunic, she proceeded to inform him that it was not quite that simple. "Up on the biobed with you", she said sharply, "you have a compound fracture of the humorus.... and I would say that you haven't only just done this either", she added. (Reply Durgil, EMH IYW) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - ACEO, Ensign Durgil - 11:40) 'You need that looked at now crewmen, it's clearly broken.' Aldlar turned to face the speaker, seeing the medical uniform that had been coated in places with blood. He felt his stomach turn slightly, although not enough to fear a toss of the cookies. "Yeah. I'll say it's broken. Pretty much, I just need it set so I can be returned to duty ASAP." Aldlar removed his makeshift splint as he spoke, allowing the arm to become exposed. The medical ensign ran her tricorder over the forearm, figuring out exactly what shape it was in. 'Up on the biobed with you. You have a number of fractures and a compound break of the humorus.... and I would say that you haven't only just done this either.' The voice was somewhat sharp and possibly slightly aggravated at the fact that he didn't come immediately. "Judging from the blood stains, I'll say y'all have had your hands full." Aldlar sat on the bed, waiting for his treatment to begin. "So, how bad has the crew suffered? I mean, this is the first time I've ever been on a ship that's crashed to the bottom of a planetary ocean." (Reply, Del'ann) Aldlar sighed. It seemed amazing at first that such effects would be had from the landing, but after working it out mentally a little, it all seemed about right.
