Everybody wants the third pip and the red uniform, they don't tell you about managing the duty rosters, running the second shift, and all the other hassles," Rogers said. Andrew nodded. “That it so true. My grey hair expectancy has increased ten fold since getting the job.” He ran his hand through his hair trying to hide any that may have sneaked in. "Still, Commander, I was only first officer for one mission, I recon at this rate you'll be a much more epic first officer than I was," Rogers said. “Epic ha. If you believe that you’ll believe anything. I’m just muddling through taking one day at a time and trying not to kill us all.” He shrugged to him self. “Thank goodness for the Captain. Any way I was wondering if you are able to pull your self away from your little empire down here to go for a drink, either to day or tomorrow?” (Reply Rogers) (Reply Rogers, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Strategic Ops Center – StratOps - Lt. For a moment the Ensign just stopped in her tracks. ~Lyndstrom?~ Tethy's exhaled deeply and then answered the call. "Tethys here, how can I help you" =/\=Doctor Tethys if you can spare some time we could use a medical eye here in the Astrophysics Lab=/\= "Is someone sick?", asked Tethys, unsure now as to why they would want her right now. (Reply Lyndstrom) "I will be right with you, I just have to secure an experiment I am running", said Tethys. The comm then closed, Tethys returned to her culture experiment and quickly secured it for later, then after picking up a medical kit, she headed out the door. (Reply Lyndstrom) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Deck 3, Astrophysics Lab - Mariana Allison Lyndstrom - 09:47) During a very brief conversation over the com system Mariana assured Dr. Tethys that no one was sick or wounded in the Astrophysics Lab but her presence was required. Of course the good Doctor agreed to come and indicated she would be there shortly. While waiting for Doctor Tethys Mariana readied the samples for the RNA protocol tests for Dr. Gunnell. A few minutes later the doors of lab opened. Dr. Tethys had arrived. Mariana looked up from her work as Tethys spoke. "Ensign Tethys reporting as requested", said Tethys. "Thanks for coming Doctor. Dr. Gunnell and I have come across some interesting results from the subspace river samples. I thought a medical opinion might shed a bit more light," remarked Mariana. Turning her attention toward Gunnell Mariana said, "Sam, why don't you show Dr. Tethys here what we've found so far." (reply Gunnell, Tethys) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Deck 3, Astrophysics Lab - Ensign Tethys - 09:52) Upon entering the Astrophysics lab, Tethys noted the Borg specialist Dr Gunnell deep in discussion regarding RNA semantics and such, Lyndstrom was her usual efficient self going from one console to the next and reading off data which seemed to be somewhat exciting to the two of them. Gunnell shook her head on a number of occasions as though what they were seeing was not making sense, then she turned towards the newcomer. "Ensign Tethys reporting as requested", said Tethys calmly. (Reply Lyndstrom) Tethys placed her medkit upon a nearby table and opened it up, then she awaited further instruction as the scientists continued on. (Reply Lyndstrom, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Deck 3, Astrophysics Lab - Ensign Tethys and Dr Samantha Gunnell - 09:53) "Sam, why don't you show Dr. Tethys here what we've found so far." said Lyndstrom. Tethys moved towards the terminal Dr Gunnell was currently working with and observed the clear symbolic helix displayed upon it, it had seemed a little strange that a medical opinion had been requested but this kinda explained a few things. "This came from the river?", exclaimed Tethys, a little surprised now. Gunnell nodded and brushed an errant hair from her forehead before continuing on. "Fascinating isn't it", she exclaimed. Tethys took a deep breath and exhaled. "It certainly is, what you have here is clearly organic", said Tethys, "and.... it belies belief" "The sample is showing a clear RNA signature, the base nucleotides are present, as are the four bases Guanine, Adenine, Cytosine and Thymine. Ester bonds are forming exponentially but what is really surprising is that the chromosome pairs are a hybrid of almost all hominid species we currently know of", said Gunnell. "That can't be", said Tethys incredulously, "that means it's.....", she added trailing off now. Gunnell nodded again. "Yes Doctor, alive!" "But why hasn't this been seen before? Why now?", said Tethys. Samantha pursed her lips and settled back into her chair, toying with a pen against her bottom lip. "It would seem that our 'friends' have activated dormant code that has begun to grow", said Gunnell. "Of course, we need a larger sample to exclude that the 'lifeform' is not isolated or incongruous, but it's looking like we've been riding the spaceborne equivilent of the hump back whale all this time" Tethys took a seat, unsure now as to what this all meant, why were the Borg here? ~Oh no~ She thought. "The Borg are trying to use the river against us!", she said, "or.... no, it's too inplausable", added Tethys, realizing of course that it wasn't! "So what next?", she asked turning to both Gunnell and Lyndstrom. (Reply Lyndstrom" (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Deck 3, Astrophysics Lab - Mariana Allison Lyndstrom - 09:54) "The Borg are trying to use the river against us!", she said, "or.... no, it's too implausible. So what next?", she asked turning to both Gunnell and Lyndstrom. Mariana vocalized what she believed all three of the women were fearing. "The Borg are trying to assimilate the life form we call the subspace river," she shuddered as she spoke then she continued. "We've got to tell the Captain!" (reply Gunnell, Tethys) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Deck 3, Astrophysics Lab - Dr Samantha Gunnell - 09:56) "....We've got to tell the Captain!", said Lyndstrom with a degree of urgency in her voice. "The Captain is already aware of the hypothesis, technically, it still is a hypothesis but it's getting pretty damned close to certainty now", said Gunnell. (Reply Any) "We'll know more once we have a more substantial sample, I'm going to request that the Captain send another probe into the river, this time one with a full spectral pallette and some", said Samantha. (Reply Any) The Doctor then returned her attention to the helix spinning slowly upon her screen. What secrets did it hold, what would it tell them? (Reply Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Deck 13 - Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 10:32) The Captain's message was almost yelled over the com system, =/\=All hands, this is the Captain.... brace for impact!=/\= Peter grabbed onto the central console and went into a semi crouched posture to brace himself. He continued to watch the small view screen as the blue wave of energy smacked into the Spectre. Many of the crewmen around engineering had been jostled severely upon impact. One man was lying on the deck plate next to the warp core. He had been thrown form the upper level. There was a small pool of blood gathering around his head. Peter raced over to the man. He could see now that it was crewman Nantz. Peter placed his fingers on the side of his throat to check for a pulse... nothing the man was dead. Peter touched his com badge. "Medical Team to Main Engineering." he said with a somber tone in his voice. =/\=Sickbay here, we're on our way=/\= replied a nurse or technician. Almost simultaneously the Captain was heard again over the com system, =/\=Damage and casualty reports, all stations.=/\= Talbot touched his com badge again, this time to open a channel to the Bridge. "Talbot here, we have lost a man down here in engineering sir..." he said. (reply T'Vhor) Peter went to the console to check on the ship systems. With a few taps on the console Peter continued his report. "Captain, All propulsion systems Online, minor damage to structural integrity field. Generators are compensating", Talbot said. (reply T'Vhor) Peter continued to monitor the structural integrity field. The generators had almost completely stabilized the field. A moment later Captain T'Vhor's voice was heard again. =/\=Bridge to Ensign Talbot=/\= said the Captain. "Talbot here Go Ahead Sir," he said. =/\=Lock and load the probe Ensign=/\= "Aye sir," Talbot replied. Talbot called down to the probe launcher control station and ordered Crewman Diaz to launch the probe. Talbot watched his console to verify probe deployment. When the probe was away he notified the Captain. "Captain, the probe is away," said Talbot over the com system. (reply T'Vhor) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre – Strategic Ops Center – StratOps - Lt. Commander Brian Rogers - 10:32) As Rogers carefully followed the discussion in the bridge and the situation with the river from StratOps, T'Vhors message suddenly warned him. =/\= All hands, this is the Captain.... brace for impact! =/\= Rogers clenched for the solid corners of his master console, but was thrown to the floor as the Spectre was rocked by another energy impact. Rogers quickly returned to his feet and headed back to his console. Rogers watched from his console as he was given updates as to orders being given on the bridge, and watched the probe being launched. Rogers tapped his comm badge. "Rogers to T'Vhor" he said, opening a channel to the captain. (reply T'Vhor) "Captain, as your Strategtic Operations officer, I need to offer my tactical assesment of the situation," Rogers suddenly had feelings his opinion would not be well-recevied, like the time he suggested that the crew spy on the Federation world of Ushar Prime. "I think we should start looking into ways to destroy, kill, whatever, the River, sir." (reply T'Vhor) "I understand what the River is to Starfleet, the 52nd in particular, but if it starts causing damage to ships, we can't in good faith allow it to contiune to exist," Rogers explained. (reply T'Vhor, any) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - TAC/SC Charles "Chuck" Donaldson - 10:32) "Let's start from the beginning ... what's the first thing you remember?" Chuck asked slowly trying not to upset her. "Collective." came the cold response from Judith. She was very much like her old self in appearance albeit slightly scarred and a network of connections still protruded from the right side of her jaw. "And Now?" Chuck asked shifting in his chair. She remembered a few things about him but only as facts not as something coherent or with value added. "No longer part of the collective." She answered. Her eyes wandered around as she sat with her legs dangling over the side of a biobed. Her red hair cropped behind in a bun-like appearance ... not a style she would have worn in the past ... so long ago. "Why not self-terminate?" Chuck asked trying to sound bold in suggesting the last thing he wanted her to do. Judith tilted her head slightly. "Former programming was corrupted. Replaced with biological rudimentary survival." She responded emphasizing the word 'rudimentary' with an obvious machine-like bias. Chuck still wasn't used to her oddly formulated sentences or lack of the word "I" ... but her language skills had greatly improved from the time she had awakened. ~progress!~ he thought. At that moment the klaxon sounded and a red flashing light pulsed all across sickbay. Chuck waited a few moments as the Spectre shook and then after collecting himself and calming down the deeply startled Judith Chuck tapped his commbadge. "Security Chief to Commander Capps." He ordered. (reply Capps) "Report, Commander." Chuck said with authority but not aggression. He had confidence in the former Operations officer. (reply Capps) NRPG: I'm assuming a brief but acceptable answer, Calvin. RPG: (reply Capps) (posted by Anton) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - CEO, Lt H'Chir - 10:32) H'Chir had been back in Engineering only fifteen or so minutes after his 'talk' with Kirien concerning his 'episode'... She had seemed somewhat dismissive of what he'd been through on Betazed and had attributed his problems to a simple case of exhaustion and lack of good sleep. This was poppycock of course, didn't she realize that the air on Andor was more dense than that of Earth, and that as a result of that, his physical endurance was much greater than most of the Spectre's crew? Apparently not. Kirien had logged the case anyway and had made mention that she would be passing it all on to Kreung and Doctor Williams for further evaluation, indeed Williams had actually made mention of the CEO acting a little strange already, but then.... H'Chir could be strange at the best of times! The Andorian sighed heavily at the thought of it all as he lay upon his back, immersed in the guts of one of the primary intermix apertures. So far everything had gone to plan in regards the core startup, even Adams and Talbot seemed to be getting along swimmingly. Normally though, when things went well something would foul it all up, and that something came rather abruptly after the ship went suddenly to red alert to the accompaniment of the Captain issuing a 'Brace for impact' alert over the shipwide coms. H'Chir rolled quickly out of the aperture and shot to his feet, the pulsing red of the alert annunciators now making his skin appear intermittently purple as a result. "What's our shield grid and containment like?", cried H'Chir to a nearby Ensign as he braced himself for a fall as advised. The Ensign did likewise and quickly ran his fingers across his board before reporting on their status. "Everything is One hundred percent sir, the shield grid is at optimal and all aspects have engaged", said the Ensign, just as the ship lurched violently to one side. H'Chir steadied himself against the nearby bulkhead, a frown appearing as he did so. "Just as well!", he cried, inwardly thanking the gods of Andor that the shields had actually deployed considering their previous power outtage. They hadn't got off that lightly though for from somewhere behind, a cry was heard and a crewman, Ensign Nantz tumbled to the floor from one of the upper gantry's to hit the floor with a horrible thud. Talbot was at his side almost immediately, he called for a medical team but the expression upon his face said it all. Nantz was dead! The Andorian wasted no time at all as he spun about and headed over to the master console just as Talbot moved to occupy the secondary terminal. The Captain then called for damage reports and Talbot duly gave the report, including the sad news of Nantz' demise. The impact they had just sustained had been great enough to fool both the SIF and inertial dampers sufficiently to have resulted in a cascade failure of the primary relays, immediately though the backup generators had switched in and were compensating adequately, as reported by Ensign Talbot. The Captain had ordered that the SIF be brought back to full functionality as a matter of course but the ever efficient Talbot had already pre-empted it and had reported accordingly. H'Chir grabbed a nearby service kit and then headed out, handing Engineering over to Adams as he did so, him being the senior officer in the department. "I'll be at the primary relay bank, if the levels begin fluctuating again we'll need to re-route the feeds through the ODN network to compensate", said H'Chir abruptly. (Reply Adams, Talbot, Any) And with that, the blue one was gone... (Reply Adams, Talbot, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Bridge – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 10:33) Working the console the best he knew how, and coordinating all information between Conn , Ops, Engineering, Command, StratOps, and most important in this scenario Dr. Gunnel. The problem was there wasn’t much anyone could do at this point. The Spectre’s crew was dealing with the River in a whole new way. They didn’t know what was going on. Reading the levels of the river Calvin was able to tell its levels peaked again at the same level it had before it attacked the Borg ship. Calvin’s theory that it would attack again and soon came true when Dr. Gunnel spoke up with a cry. "I'm reading another one Captain", said Gunnell. Like everyone else on the bridge Calvin heard the report to the Captain. Calvin took his eyes off of his console to look at the view screen which gave everyone looking exactly what Dr. Gunnel was referring to. The same type of tendril that hit the Borg ship was now heading toward the Spectre. Lt Cmdr Capps’ fingers worked as fast as they could. There tendril was moving at an exceptional speed, and Calvin couldn’t work fast enough. Luckily the Captain had called for the red alert earlier so the shields were already at full capacity. "All hands, this is the Captain.... brace for impact!" T’Vhor informed the whole crew. Calvin did as most people did. He tensed his body and grabbed on to the tactical console as hard as his could. The tendril from the River hit, and the entire ship felt it. Lt Cmdr Capps watched as members of the bridge were tossed around. Some how Calvin was only knocked to the ground, but he was able to stand up immediately. Once he stood he checked his board for the updated data. "Damage and casualty reports, all stations", he requested. =/\=Talbot here, we have lost a man down here in engineering sir...=/\= he said. (reply T'Vhor) =/\=Captain, All propulsion systems Online, minor damage to structural integrity field. Generators are compensating,=/\= Talbot said. (reply T'Vhor) “All decks reporting in. 3 casualties, 9 injured. Medical teams have been sent. Shields down to 75%. Phaser 1 and 2 is inoperable,” Calvin submitted to the Captain. (reply T’Vhor, iyw) Lt Cmdr Capps worked his console once again. He arranged for immediate work on the inoperable phasers. And worked on getting the shields back up to full as fast a possible. It wasn’t going to be easy since the entire crew was using all its power at the same time. (reply T’Vhor, any, all) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre – Bridge – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 10:33) The probe that Dr. Gunnel had requested was now on its way. She had a theory that the River was attempting to talk to them. Calvin has seen some weird incidents in his Starfleet career, but this theory was a little beyond those. Never the less Lt Cmdr Capps went with it. It was the only working theory they had, and it didn’t matter to Calvin if it sounded crazy or not because it very well could be true. He wasn’t the most qualified person to say if it was or not. What mattered to him the most was keeping the Spectre in one piece and keeping its crew alive. So whatever it took to do that is what Calvin would do. =/\= Rogers to T'Vhor=/\= (reply T’Vhor) /\=Captain, as your Strategtic Operations officer, I need to offer my tactical assesment of the situation. I think we should start looking into ways to destroy, kill, whatever, the River, sir.=/\= (reply T’Vhor) =/\=I understand what the River is to Starfleet, the 52nd in particular, but if it starts causing damage to ships, we can't in good faith allow it to contiune to exist,=/\= Rogers explained. Calvin listened in on the conversation, and in most regards Calvin had the same feelings. The ship was being pummeled by the River. The Spectre could not stay where it currently was. If it did then the ship would be destroyed shortly. “Captain, I suggest we attempt to move to a safe distance away from the river. We should then set buoys warning other ships of the River while our probe sends data back to us.” (reply T’Vhor) “What we need is time.” He turned to Dr. Gunnell. (reply Gunnel) “If we are unable to get a safe distance away and not able to speak with it sir, I would agree that we need to start looking for a way to disable the River. I would much rather look for another course sir.” (reply T’Vhor, any, all) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre - Bridge – FO, Williams - 10:33) Andrew watched in alarm as the energy wave raced towards them despite Smith flying. ~Ow hell~ "All hands, this is the Captain.... brace for impact!", Andrew gripped his armrest and tried to ride out the writhing deck but he was catapulted from his chair and landed hard as he skidded across the floor. As the ship stopped shaking he pulled himself up and got back to his chair by which time the Captain was giving out orders. "Damage and casualty reports, all stations", he requested. (Reply Any, All) Andrew partially listened to the reports and the conversation that was going on between the Captain and Doctor Gunnell as he worked on prioritising the damage control teams and sending them to the worst effective areas. "Doctor, do you mind telling me what just hit us?", he inquired. "One moment", "I believe it was pure subspace energy Captain. In essence, I think the river is trying to tell us something". Andrew paused for a moment and looked at Gunnell "Then perhaps we should....listen?", he asked. "I think your right, Ensign Talbot did say that my probe was ready did he not?", asked Gunnell. "if that's the case then I suggest that we launch it immediately and see if we cant create a dialogue of some sorts", she added. "So you are still working on the theory that the river has sentience Doctor?", ~So like the worm hole near Bajor~ "More so than ever before Captain", "i think it's.... annoyed" ~Yeh I would be to~ "And you feel that firing a probe into it will cause it to cease it's annoyance?", said the Captain. "We can have the probe remain passive as opposed to active, telemetry linkup will provide is with an initial conduit.... then we'll go from there", said Gunnell. "Bridge to Ensign Talbot" =^=Talbot here Go Ahead Sir,=^= "Lock and load the probe Ensign"... =^=Aye sir=^=. There was a pause until Talbot came over the conn again. =^=Captain, the probe is away=^= Andrew looked at the view screen and saw the probe streak toward the river. ~I really hope this calms it down or we are going to be in a lot of trouble~ He glanced at the chronometer and realised what the time was. He quickly accessed his arm console and tapped out a quick message. Hi Brian Do you mind If we have a rain check on the drink as I am sure you are a little busy at the moment. Andrew He sent the message to Rogers and then looked back at the view screen. The probe was just entering the river. ~Please let this work~ (Reply Any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Bridge – CO, Captain T'Vhor – 10:34) =/\=I understand what the River is to Starfleet, the 52nd in particular, but if it starts causing damage to ships, we can't in good faith allow it to continue to exist=/\= Rogers had offered in defence of his recommendation to destroy the river itself now. Well, he had a point there but.... All of a sudden the bridge had seemed somewhat chaotic, reports were flying in from all departments whilst differences of opinions were being aired then by individual bridge crew officers over whether Rogers was correct or not or that they should allow the Doctor to continue with her experiments. Rogers, in his new capacity of StratOps had seemed overly keen to just blow it out of the sky and be done with it, whilst Ensign Talbot down in Engineering, after reporting the loss of a crewman, went on to give a brief status report on their current situation. =/\=Captain, All propulsion systems Online, minor damage to structural integrity field. Generators are compensating=/\= he had said. "Put a team onto the SIF and bring it back to full functionality", said the Captain, "I don't want to be operating at anything less than peak efficiency if we need to make a hasty retreat" (Reply Talbot) The Captain then addressed the Lieutenant Commander in StratOps once again. "Your views are duly noted Lieutenant Commander, assuming that we were to decide to attack the river though..... how would we do that? The river is pure subspace energy following unconventional physical laws", said the Captain. (Reply Rogers) It was at about that time that the TAC officer Capps, offered some insight himself. “Captain, I suggest we attempt to move to a safe distance away from the river. We should then set buoys warning other ships of the River while our probe sends data back to us.”, he offered. The Captain nodded and then turned to Gunnell who was still monitoring the telemetry now coming back from the probe whilst the officers debated. "Is the rivers energy levels still receeding Doctor", he asked. "It would appear so Captain, although I can't say they won't begin rising again", said Gunnell. The Captain put his fingers to his chin in contemplation of the facts, the Spectre HAD retreated to a safer distance once already but considering the destructive capabilities they had seen of the glowing tendril, perhaps it would be prudent to move again. As for the bouys though, their distance away from any civilization negated that somewhat, plus there was only one other ship in the vicinity and that was the Humboldt. "Helm, pull us back to twenty thousand kilometres, Doctor Gunnell, continue with your experiments and see if you can make any sense of this matter..... Lieutenant Commander Rogers, I want you to see if you can find a weakness in the rivers constructs, something that we can use if the need arises", said the Captain. (Reply Rogers) "That does not mean that I am authorizing the rivers destruction Mr Rogers, it is a contingency only", said the Captain. (Reply Rogers, Talbot, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Bridge - TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 10:35) =/\=Security Chief to Commander Capps.=/\= He ordered. It appears to have some hostility with any external stimuli. It has hit the borg ship and ours with its own energy. We are retreating to a safe distance, and we have sent a probe to collect data sir. (reply any) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre - Deck 13 - Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 10:35) After the Captain had ordered the launch of the probe he called down to ensure the proper repairs were being made to the Structural Integrity Field. =/\=Put a team onto the SIF and bring it back to full functionality, I don't want to be operating at anything less than peak efficiency if we need to make a hasty retreat=/\= the Captain said over the com system. "Already done sir, Field strength returning to normal levels, Engineering out," replied Talbot after tapping his combadge. As Peter closed the com channel the medical team arrived and examined crewmen Nantz who had fallen from the upper level. Peter was correct of course, the man was dead. Peter felt almost no emotion at the loss. His Vulcan training served him well at that moment. The medics placed Nantz's body on a stretcher and carried him out of the engineering section. Peter looked across the Main Console in Engineering at Lt. Adams who appeared to be running diagnostic checks of the ship systems. "Had you met him?" Peter asked of Lt. Adams as the medics carried Nantz's body down the corridor and out of view. (reply Adams) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Deck 13, Main Engineering - Lieutenant JG Christopher Adams - 10:36) Lieutenant Christopher Adams continued watching over the center command console in Engineering while the reports of damage across the ship continued to pour in. The engineering crew was still reeling from the loss of crewman Nantz. Adams figured by concentrating on his duties, the fact that the medical team was carrying away one of his fallen comrades, would fade to the back of his mind. "Had you met him?" asked Ensign Peter Talbot. "No," responded Adams shortly. "I really haven't had a chance to meet anyone yet." After a pause and a deep breath. "I guess our lunch is on hold for now, isn't it?" He asked jokingly. (reply Talbot) "I think we need to break the engineering crew into two strike teams to handle all these repairs coming in," said Adams refocusing the conversation back to the issue at hand. "We need to make sure the ship can take anything that Subspace River has. We can coordinate efforts from here. I'll take Alpha group. You take Beta group." Adams's fingers broke the crew manifest into two and sent the display to Talbot's computer panel. "What do you think?" ask Adams. (reply Talbot, any) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - TAC/SC Charles "Chuck" Donaldson - 10:36) "Very good, Commander ... it's in your hands. Chief out." Chuck said closing the channel. "Care to take a walk?" Chuck asked laying a hand on Judith's shoulder. "I don't think that's a good idea, Lieutenant." Came a voice from behind Chuck. He turned to face the speaker but he knew who it was by the familiar voice. "T'Pia, I'll take responsibility for Judith ... it's really the only option to help her get better. A ship environment is almost like home for her." Chuck said trying not to look insensitive talking about Judith as if she wasn't right there in front of him. "As a Starfleet nurse I feel I should inform you that it's better at this time to take it slower. However, if this is really what you want I'll sign off on it." T'Pia shrugged her shoulders and made the nearest thing to a smile her Vulcan side would allow her. "I'll have to remember to return the favor." Chuck said smiling. He was already helping Judith up and thinking about what kind of civilian clothes she should wear for the 'trip'. Rogers had given his suggestion, one that Andrew was hoping that they did not have to take. He saw that sickbay was getting the wounded from engineering and other departments. He paused as he heard about the loss of an engineer but brought himself back. ~This is not the time or the place. You will have time later~ Andrew listened to the exchange crisscrossing the bridge as he tried to get his head around the shifting decisions. "Helm, pull us back to twenty thousand kilometres, Doctor Gunnell, continue with your experiments and see if you can make any sense of this matter..... Lieutenant Commander Rogers, I want you to see if you can find a weakness in the rivers constructs, something that we can use if the need arises", He looked over at Jennifer as she acknowledged the order and began to move the Spectre away. "That does not mean that I am authorizing the rivers destruction Mr Rogers, it is a contingency only", said the Captain. ~Well at least he’s covering every option~ As things began to settle down again on the bridge, Andrew looked over to Gunnell. “Doctor Gunnell I am wondering, is the River paying any attention to the probe?” (Reply Gunnell) “So do you think it is the Spectres size that might be the getting it twitched?” (Reply Gunnell) “From your readings are you getting any kind of sentience from the river? We can coordinate efforts from here. I'll take Alpha group. You take Beta group. What do you think?" asked Adams. "That plan sounds logical Lieutenant," Talbot responded in a very Vulcan manner, still trying to suppress any feelings from the death of crewman Nantz. Peter began tapping keys on his console prioritizing repairs for the Beta team. (reply none, any) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Deck 13, Main Engineering - Lieutenant JG Christopher Adams - 10:38) Lieutenant Christopher Adams started to put together the plans for his repair team. They were in charge of decks 8 and above and microfractures had been detected the starboard section of deck 3 near the impact from the Subspace River. "Okay," announced Adams to the engineering deck. "I need the following crewmen to assemble: Ensign T'Aung, Lieutenant Withers, Ensign Welch, and Lieutenant Korthor." Suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, the chief engineer, Lieutenant H'Chir, appeared, engineering tool kit in hand. "I'll be at the primary relay bank, if the levels begin fluctuating again we'll need to re-route the feeds through the ODN network to compensate." "Aye, sir," replied Adams. As fast as he appeared, the Andorian was gone through the main double doors. The four engineering crew finally assembled in front of Adams. "We have structural damage on deck three. I need the four of you to access the outer hull through Jefferies Tube 3B and take this corridor down to where the microfractures have been detected. Use poliduranium in order to seal the fractures. Don't forget to use the ultraviolet hand beacons to make sure the polirisen hardens. I'll monitor the situation from here. Report once they are sealed. Understood?" There was a chorus of agreement. "Okay. What are you waiting for?" The four engineering technicians headed out, picking up their equipment on their way. (reply any) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre – Bridge – CO, Captain T'Vhor and Mission Specialist, Dr Samantha Gunnell - 10:38) It seemed that for the moment anyway, the subspace river had recovered from it's initial 'tantrum', if Dr Gunnell's hypothesis was indeed correct then 'tantrum' might not be as far fetched and bizarre an explanation as first thought. But this was some baby that was for certain, and one could only hope that it didn't throw another tantrum. Samantha herself was now receiving good telemetry from the probe, initial findings however were inconclusive with their biological component still seemingly absent from the first sensor readings coming back. That wasn't to say that it wasn't there of course, it was just.... elusive. The Doctor scratched her head and then bit at her lower lip in contemplation of it all. ~Come on... come on~ she thought as the ships FO and CMO then offered his own input on the matter. “Doctor Gunnell, I am wondering is the River paying any attention to the probe?”, he asked. Gunnell shook her head in the negative. "It would seem not", she said obviously as confused as everyone else was at this moment in time. "It hasn't reacted actively at all since our probe entered the subspace field but......", she added, pausing now as another batch of data arrived and was duly analyzed by the science equipment. "One moment Doctor", said Gunnell, wondering now if the FO had felt in any way awkward at the address. "It doesn't like large objects nearby that's for sure", offerred Gunnell as she continued to read over the latest scan results. “So do you think it is the Spectre's size that might be getting it twitched?”, enquired Williams. "A particular large object rather than any large object Doctor Williams, I think that the Spectre may have just been caught up in the reaction the river felt was necessary to the Borg vessel", said Gunnell. “From you readings are you getting any kind of sentience from the river? Is this reacting from instinct or is there a higher consciousness at work?” Gunnell shook her head once again, "no sentience right now, but the earlier data suggests that this is so, higher consciousness though? I think not, it appears to be a natural reaction to an external stimulus it did not like.... why now though is a puzzle", she added. (Reply Williams, Any) "So the Borg interference may have triggered a set of responses we have never before encountered in regards the river?", enquired the Captain. "I think so Captain", said Gunnell, "I would say that they have medled with the very essence of it and activated a once dormant aspect of the river itself. Captain T'Vhor quirked his head and contemplated the information being offered. "Intriguing", he said, "if this is so then our answer lies with the remaining Borg drones", he added as he quickly opened a channel to the Security Chief in response. "Bridge to Lieutenant Donaldson" (Reply Donaldson) "Do you feel that your... Judith is able to reliably answer questions specific to the Borg mission parameters yet?", asked the Captain, correcting himself part way through the sentence. (Reply Donaldson) "Very well, I would like to speak with her the moment she is available and able to", said the Captain. (Reply Donaldson) "Understood, bridge out", said the Captain as he quickly returned his attention to Doctor Gunnell once more in the hope that something, anything might have come to light. Gunnell however was not forthcoming. "Sorry Captain, nothing as yet", she said apologetically. T'Vhor then turned his attention to the viewscreen once again. "Where is the Borg vessel now?", he enquired. (Reply Tactical, Ops, Any) "Prepare to lock a tractor beam and return it to our current location. Just as Lt. Adams called his team the Chief, Lt. H'Chir, showed up rather mysteriously. "I'll be at the primary relay bank, if the levels begin fluctuating again we'll need to re-route the feeds through the ODN network to compensate." commented the Chief, and was off again without any orders or questions to anyone. Adams assembled his team and gave them work orders. Talbot was also now prepared to dole out work instructions to his subordinates. "Diaz, Weeks, By'Lar, and Lynch report to Deck 14. They have reported intermittent power failures. Start by checking the Bio-gel packs at power junction 47 alpha. A blowout there could shut down the entire deck. Make sure the Phased cloak remains powered and operational." Talbot said, he was very precise with his orders. The quartet of crewmen all acknowledged Ensign Talbot and headed out. Lieutenant Commander Rogers, I want you to see if you can find a weakness in the rivers constructs, something that we can use if the need arises", said the Captain. Lt Cmdr Capps felt better that the Captain took his advice on moving even further back than the Spectre already had. The fact was no one knew how far the River was able to extend its energy, and the further Calvin could get the ship, back the safer it was. He did notice that the Captain did not mention the buoys. Now that Calvin’s heart rate went down, and his mind cleared up he was able to think why T’Vhor didn’t. There simply was no need for them. No nearby civilization would be coming near here to be warned. Calvin’s face blushed with embarrassment, but T’Vhor was an excellent friend as well as a Captain. Instead of bringing attention to the fact that Calvin was mistaken, he simply derailed from the subject. He had no other choice but to soak up his mistake to his short hiatus away from starships. There would be plenty of time for him to prove himself in TAC/SEC. No matter how much it got infuriating or exhausting, caring for patients was what she did best. She was doing it a lot at the moment ever since the ship had been hit by this energy wave. They had been getting injured crewmen from all over the ship. She looked over at where Dr’s Kirien and Tethys were treating patients. She turned as the sickbay doors slid open and one of the medical techs charged in with a patient on a gurney. “What do we have?” The medical tech looked up at her as they transferred the patient onto a bio-bed and attached the patient to the monitoring. “Fell down a jefferies tube hatch. Initial scans show fractured ribs and lots of internal bleeding. Unresponsive to stimuli, systolic below 80, pulse rocketed past 300….” The bio-bed monitor began to beep madly. It took Douwsy a split second to take in what it was saying and turned back to the tech. “He’s in VF, Quick get the crash cart. Need defib now. I need a hand over here.” As the tech rushed away. Douwsy watched as the patients heart rate suddenly plummeted. ~Asystole, Damn too late~ As the patients heart rate reached zero she quickly stepped to the patient’s side and began CPR. Slowly ... very slowly ... painfully slowly - Judith cracked open the door to the head and stepped out holding her surgical gown and wearing a red pantsuit designed to be similar to a Starfleet uniform but with a light red where the standard uniform would be black. "Wow, it looks great. Come on let's get going." Chuck offered her an arm. Reluctantly Judith fidgeted in the new threads and slipped her hand through Chuck's looped arm. Houseman pulled his phaser pistol out of his holster he checked the energy level before he placed in back. He saw Rameriz nearby with his phaser rife. He suppressed a grin. ~Ow look here is the grate Spanish hunter~ He walked over to Rameriz but stoop out of arms length as Rameriz had a strange habbit of attacking him when he got to close. “So Rameriz think you can hit a barn door with that thing?” Houseman pointed to the phaser rifle. His orders had been 'Stay there and don't blow anything up.' He was pretty sure that was officer talk for 'Don't have any fun.' Boy, being a marine was more fun when you were in the middle of a war. Well, excluding all the death of comrades stuff, that kinda sucked. He was starting to consider retirement again, if only to get out of the world of boredom. He wondered if his hot redheaded Lolita would be willing to run away to Risa with him. Nice planet, lots of crime and fun. His musing was interrupted by his comrade, friend and foe in one package's arrival. “So Rameriz think you can hit a barn door with that thing?” Houseman pointed to the phaser rifle. "Hell no! That's why they be given me grenades!" Rameriz replied happily. He bounced up and down on the balls of his feet. As if he could approach Houseman's lofty height to look him in the eye. *Have to kick him in the crotch first.* and that would probably come under the heading of having fun and against orders. (Reply Houseman) "Uh, what's a barn anyways?" The city boy knew they were big buildings, found on farms, and had something to do with animals but he wasn't quite sure why he'd be shooting one. He still kept his distance as he did not know what was going on in that mental head of his. “They let you loose with explosive. Man we are in trouble. With those you would probably take the barn out as well as the doors.”” "Uh, what's a barn anyways?" Houseman paused for a second as he took in what Rameriz had to say. He was surprised as his friends answer. He knew that the marine’s corps prided them selves on not having stupid troopers but how on earth he had got through the screening was passed him. “Something that you put animal’s in. They are in the country side, on farms.” May be it was the fact that he could carry a weapon and was a good shot. Not as good as Houseman but good. He turned his hand and looked over at O’Hara who was on the other side of the room and rolled his eyes. It took a split second to realise that he had done something wrong. He asked the squirming Houseman. "He assumes you're about to pounce on him." Holo-Rameriz announced. It seemed the program was never far from his creator these days. His English was also getting frighteningly better as he seemed to be trying to distance himself from his flesh and blood self. "Huh, whys?" He asked the hologram, looking between Houseman and the slightly taller than he remembered holo-marine. "Because you are forever causing fights with your fellow corporal." The holo-marine told him with an air of superiority. "Geez, nots on duty!" Rameriz replied with a disgusted look. Was his computer generated double's hairline receding? "Airlock 27.." Holo Rameriz started, "Training mans!" The Spaniard protested. "Jefferies Tube 39.." "PT! That's not serious stuff." "Holodeck.." He didn't even let his double finish, "Dat was a dumb ass training program. I means, what are we supposed to learn from dumbass Borg trained by dumbass feeling, non-hive, humans? Really!" He threw up his hands and gave Houseman a look like Houseman should agree with him. "I haves never, ever, caused troubles amongst the ranks when there is suspected enemy action." Lewis glanced across to Rameriz who seemed to be having some kind of a joke with Houseman, his holographic counterpart had just offered an answer to his query over jumpiness, then the banter continued on with one Rameriz attacking the morals of the other. Lewis shook his head once again. "You two's are like a godamned double act", he snapped, then realizing what he'd just said, he screwed his face up and clenched his fist in anger. Nevers", cried Rameriz, whilst his photonic twin just shrugged, rolled his eyes and then took himself offline. ~Damn, I wish I could do that~ Thought Lewis, he was going to actually articulate the sentiment but changed his mind, just as the smell returned. She'd even been eating here. Borg did so bring out the best in everyone. "I have it on excellent authority there's only one being on this entire ship that the Captain wants to kill," Jynea said with her best wry smile. She pointed to the hallway. Petty Officer Smithers turned, brow furrowed to follow the pointed finger. "Your rabbit?" he asked, thoroughly confused. "Mark likes the Captain's command chair. Captain T'Vhor keeps insisting the only reason the rabbit is still alive is he is a vegetarian. So, if the Captain isn't going to kill one small chair shedding bunny, I think it's fairly unlikely he's about to destroy the ship to punish one P.O who spilt coffee on him three years ago," "I know that up here!" The young man pointed to his head, "But not in *here*," he pointed to his gut. Jynea wasn't quite sure where to go from here, the whole thing seemed rather silly to her. Oh, yes, ship being tossed like a salad wasn't particularly present and she was surprised she didn't have more people knocking on her door, but the reasoning behind this one.. Smithers suddenly snickered. Jynea raised an eyebrow, "Mm?" "Sorry Ensign, I just had the mental picture of the Captain trying to stare down an errant rabbit." The snicker grew into a guffaw and suddenly all the tenseness in one human's body erupted in humour. Jynea was more than a little mystified as the man stumbled to his feet and left counseling, wiping tears from his eyes. Jynea stare at the door for several long minutes. "If I live to five hundred, I will never understand humans." Mark's reply was to thump suddenly and turn tail and disappear back into her office. She'd been holding court in the waiting area because she was sick of the claustrophobic space. She supposed she could just throw in the towel and take over the Chief's office, but she knew as soon as she did THAT someone would be transferred in and she'd just have to move right back out again. The doors opened as she was debating getting off her butt and seeing what had freaked her furry friend out. The last time he'd reacted like that it had been the borg going past Sickbay where he'd been caging treats from the nursing staff. *Ho boy.* Jynea thought as she saw Chuck and his wife in the doorway. She'd been going out of her way to avoid both. *And welcome to learning what jealousy feels like. Maybe I was wrong about this whole not-in-love thing. He attempted to tell himself that this was not within his expertise, but he couldn’t bear not being part of the solution since he was a senior officer. Listening to what Captain T’Vhor and Dr. Gunnell were saying to each other on the bridge perked Calvin’s ears. "So let's go", Dr. Gunnell suggested to the Captain to leave the ship and enter a possible hostile environment. The Lt Cmdr looked toward the First Officer and it seemed the two of them were thinking the same thing. Commander Williams did not protest so Calvin followed his superior's lead and didn’t either. It was clear that the Captain had made his mind up and wanted to get to the bottom of this. Calvin was also confident in his friend's hybrid Vulcan mindset. The man that had escorted her, Donaldson, had seemed to know her from the start, he was different from the rest of the Spectre's crew and clearly had a lot more time for her despite her often cold and aloof impartiality towards him. Why was he even bothering? Donaldson of course had been advised to impart information about their background on a little and often basis, this being preferable to flooding the woman's re-awakening mind with too much information all at once, it made sense perhaps but to Judith, nothing made much sense at all. The appearance of an Orion entering into the corridor from beyond a room only served to compound her thoughts even further. The Security chief had tried to appear relaxed in his candor, acting as though the meeting had been by chance, Judith however suspected otherwise and longed for the many voices in her mind to back that feeling up and add substance, as it was though, her mind was now horribly quiet. "I have twenty-seven, and then I have a tea emergency to take care of", said the Orion woman in response to Donaldson's query over how many minutes she actually had. Judith tightened her grip on the Sec chiefs arm as the Orion gestured for them to enter. ~An odd query and an even odder gesture~ "Who is this.... Orion?", said Judith, directing her question now towards Donaldson. (Reply Donaldson, Kreung, Any) "We have no need to see her, we will go elsewhere", stated Judith, her cold aloof mode of operation returning once again, after all, that was all she had known for so long now and she saw no reason now to react in any other way. (Reply Donaldson, Kreung, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Councilling Department - Ensign Jynea Kreung - 10:56) "Who is this.... Orion?", said Judith, directing her question now towards Donaldson. *Typical Borg politeness, poor Chuck.* Jynea debated several less that diplomatic replies before she managed to retract the metaphorical claws, "I am Jynea Kreung, ship's morale officer and friend of your husband's." "We have no need to see her, we will go elsewhere", stated Judith doing her best drone impression. "Whom DO you need to see?" Jynea asked. It was an interesting phrasing and certainly defensive on her part. Where would an ex-drone want to be? She was obviously more human than she wanted to be if she was having the typical 'ack, ack, not a counsellor!' reaction. (Reply Donaldson or Donaldson, Any) (Posted by Lorna) (USS Spectre - Deck 14 - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 10:56) Talbot exited the Turbo lift onto Deck 14. The main lights and power were offline, emergency lighting dimly lit the corridor. Peter ran down the hall toward power junction 47 alpha. Before he got very far he could smell the fire suppression chemicals used by fire control teams. Peter began to slow down as saw a crewmen ahead of him wearing a fire suit and breathing mask. The man held up his hands and shook his head "You're not going in there Ensign," the fire control tech said sounding very garbled through his mask. "I had 4 crewmen working on that power junction," Talbot yelled at the tech. "We found them sir, they're dead they never had a chance," the tech said still garbled due to his mask. Completely shocked and stunned emotion flooded Talbot's mind. He grabbed a hold of the tech's fire suit pulling him close to his own face and said, "I am going to see them." The Tech responded quietly still being held by Talbot, "Sir if you go in there you'll die too. The chemicals will suffocate you." "Give me a preliminary damage report," Talbot ordered trying to hold his emotions at bay. "Main power is gone, and the phase cloak burned up." the Tech replied. Dejected, and emotionally drained Talbot turned and slowly walked back to the turbo lift. He tapped his combadge to report in. "Talbot to Adams," he said. (reply Adams) "They are all dead sir. Diaz, Lynch, By'Lar and Weeks. Also Main power to deck 14 is offline and the Phase Cloak is gone, Plasma fire destroyed it completely." reported Talbot. (reply Adams) (Posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre – Deck 14 – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 10:57) The turbolift doors opened in time for Calvin to see an Ensign grabbing a hold of a Fire Tech. It didn’t look like a fight, but instead it seemed the Ensign was upset about something. Calvin began forward toward the two, but by the time he was able to reach them the Engineering officer was already moving back to the turbolift. As the two approached each other Calvin stopped him. “What is going on Ensign,” Calvin asked needing to know. (reply Talbot) Calvin understood what the new officer was going through. He had lost men under his command in more than one mission. It was something hard that an officer must deal with. “I’m sorry Ensign, but we will have the time to honor them later. Now we need to fix our problems.” (reply Talbot) “Is there anything else to report,” the ASC asked. (reply Talbot) Calvin had to swallow his pride on this one. He hadn’t been on the ship long enough to know the inner workings of the phase cloak yet. The only material he had on it was the brief technical schematics of it on his way to the ship. “Can that be repaired as soon as the fire is out,” Calvin feared the answer. (reply Talbot) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre - Councilling Department - Judith Donaldson - 10:57) The empirical data did not compute! Judith was having problems right now with the Orions response to her question, and the lack of processing that normally went on within her organic extension of the Borg collective was no help at all. Ordinarilly, the collective would have provided a response along the lines of, assess the species, catagorize usefulness of assimilation, terminate subject if a threat. As it was though, she now had only her 'Human' neurons to rely upon. "Whom DO you need to see?", the Councillor had asked. Judith quirked her head, a memory engram firing as she did so. "Orions have a susceptable occipital arch, their autonomic nervous capacity can be rendered... offline... in response to a four kilogram impact to the base of the skull", she said coldly. (Reply Kreung, Donaldson, Any) Judith turned to the Security chief with a questioning look upon her face. "What is.... husband?", she enquired, her query going back to an earlier address the Councillor had given her, whilst completely ignoring anything else. (Reply Donaldson) Judith listened for the voices once more, though they were not forthcoming. "We would like to see the primary adjunct of this vessel, you will take us to that unit", requested Judith. "And a human, even with borg implants can be rendered offline with a sharp thrust to the base of the nose at an inward and upwards angle," Jynea agreed. (Reply Chuck/Judith) Judith turned to the Security chief with a questioning look upon her face. "What is.... husband?", she enquired, her query going back to an earlier address the Councillor had given her, whilst completely ignoring anything else. *ooops..* Jynea gave Chuck a quick panicked expression, glad for the moment Judith was ignoring her. "SORRY!" she mouthed. She'd thought Chuck would have told her. Damnit. Judith listened for the voices once more, though they were not forthcoming. "We would like to see the primary adjunct of this vessel, you will take us to that unit", requested Judith. *Poor Chuck* was all Jynea could think. She wished she could help, but short of conking the woman on the head and telling her to grab life and freedom back with both hands, she really didn't know what she could do. Chuck had been through this, maybe he could tell her what he needed or wanted from her.. (Reply Chuck/Judith) (POsted by Lorna) (USS Spectre – Marine Staging – CO, Captain T'Vhor – 10:58) Marine staging was pretty much as expected, a collection of BDU suited marines engaged predictably in various states of high jinx. T'Vhor wondered why that always seemed to be the case with Marines, either under his command or otherwise. It seemed that it might be a kind of 'release valve' for pent up emotions and as a job description, the tasks of a Marine were indeed more stressful than most. The high jinx though had ceased the moment he had entered staging, whether it was out of respect for himself or the fact that a lady had just entered with him was negotiable, probably the former as opposed to the later but the result was the same nonetheless. Everyone stood to attention, including the oft times unpredictable Spaniard, Rameriz. The Captain nodded to the accompaniment of one word. “Gentlemen” (Reply Any, IYW) “Both myself and Doctor Gunnell here will be accompanying you over to the Borg ship”, said the Captain in as unemotional a voice as ever, irrespective of his following statement. “Sensors have shown unpredictable conditions on some decks so as a precautionary measure, it must be assumed that the integrity of all decks is.... questionable”, he added. (Reply Any) “Environment suits must be worn until the oxygen nitrogen status of each deck is either confirmed, or re-established”, said the Captain, just as the MXO arrived also to acknowledge both the CO and the Doctor. “Major, I will meet you in the Marine transporter room in fifteen minutes”, said the Captain returning acknowledgment of the MXO to him before leaving the room to begin suiting up. “Well”, said the MXO turning towards the assembled Marines, “you heard the man, get your asses in gear and suit up!” (Reply Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Deck 14 - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 11:00) Still stunned from the events of the morning Peter walked back toward the turbo lift. On his way an officer, he had never met before, with Lt. Commander pips on his collar stopped and questioned him. “What is going on Ensign,” the officer asked. "Sir, I just lost 4 men in that plasma fire," Talbot said somberly offering very little information. “I’m sorry Ensign, but we will have to time to honor them later. Now we need to fix our problems.” the officer remarked. "Sir, there are plenty of them to be sure, Problems I mean sir." Talbot agreed. “Is there anything else to report,” the officer continued to question Talbot for information. "Well sir, the phase cloak was badly damaged," Talbot said. “Can that be repaired as soon as the fire is out,” the officer asked? Talbot replied, "At this time a repair schedule is unknown, sir." Finally the inquisition was over, the unknown officer seemed satisfied with Talbot's answers and he moved on to interrogate the fire tech down the corridor. Talbot continued on toward the turbo lift and main engineering. (reply none, any) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre – Deck 14 – TAC/ASC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 11:03) After Calvin finished talking with the Ensign he moved onto the Fire Tech. “Are you in charge,” he asked bluntly. “Yes sir, we have a fire we are still working on in the junction. I gave a full engineering report to the Engineer you just spoke too.” “Do you have it contained or do you need any area here blocked off?” “This area isn’t safe for anyone without the proper gear including you sir. But these sets of hallways need to be cleared until the chemicals suppression is filtered through the air system.” The fire tech pointed at the ends of the hallway they were currently on. “I will have two teams posted with the sufficient gear. They will report immediately. Let me know if you need anything else.” “Aye sir,” the fire tech said right before he entered the room again to finish the job he started. (reply none, any) (posted by Calvin) (USS Spectre - Deck 13, Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 11:15) Talbot exited the turbo lift back on to Deck 13 after leaving the badly fire damaged deck 14. He walked into Main Engineering to give Lt. Adams a more thorough report on the situation on deck 14. Adams was still at the main control console in the center of engineering. Talbot began to give his assessment. "Lt. we're going to need multiple damage control teams down there. However it will be at least another hour before the fire control teams can clean up and clear the area of chemicals. We may need space dock to repair the Phase Cloak, at this point it is unclear..." Talbot paused a moment thinking of his fallen shipmates. "We are definitely going to be under staffed after losing 5 people today," Talbot said somberly. (reply Adams, any) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (Borg Vessel – Unimatrix One - CO, Captain T'Vhor, Dr Samantha Gunnell and MXO Bruce Kowalski – 11:17) The first thing that the Captain noted upon beam in was the sensor display upon his HUD faceplate changing to register the fetid humidity of the place, the Marines of course had fanned out in groups in a predictable manner, each voicing off commands to the MXO in regards status and such whilst the MXO himself led the Captain and Doctor Gunnell to an area to the rear of the Borg bridge which had been sealed off for some unknown purpose. Kowalski had suspected that the Borg had secured the area upon realization that resistance in regards the Starfleet personnel was not as futile as they thought it was! Either way it was obvious that whatever the door hid, it was of great importance to the collective and as such, even more important to Starfleet. "It's just up here and around the bend Captain", said Kowalski, gesturing with his hand towards the bridge itself. "Lead on Major", said the Captain and kowalski ordered two of his men to move ahead and secure the area. After all, there were still two unaccounted for drones that might still be on the loose there! Within seconds though, the area was deemed secure and the bridge was entered by the Captain, the MXO and Doctor Gunnell. Kowalski immediately took them to the sealed off room. "We've tried everything short of explosives to get through this door Captain, I have no idea what type of metal it is but it's pretty hard to crack", said Kowalski. The Captain glanced around, noting as he did so the dead drones that still remained there, then he touched the door itself with the fingers of one hand. "It feels like a plastic of some sort rather than a metal", he said, an eyebrow rising quizzically at the sheer improbability of it. "But harder than any metal we know of", said Kowalski, "it's a puzzle as to why they didn't build the entire ship of the stuff, we'd never have even dented the hull upon our arrival", he added. The Captain nodded. "A puzzle indeed", he said before turning to the Doctor. "Any ideas Doctor gunnell?", he enquired. Gunnell shook her head. "None at all Captain, all I can suggest is that they have recently assimilated a species with such capabilities", she said. The Captain turned his attention back to the door and exhaled heavily. "Nevertheless, what we require lies beyond it", he said moving then towards the various consoles and terminals on the Borg bridge and hoping that they might find an answer to their problem there. NRPG: More to come... (Reply Any) (Posted by Alan) (Borg Vessel – Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor and Corporal Lewis O'Hara – 11:28) All of a sudden it had seemed deathly quiet. The Captain had been seated upon a makeshift support fashioned from a large equipment case, the Borg bridge being predictably bereft of chairs as it was! The Collective didn't deem it necessary to give it's automatons the comfort of seating it would seem, but then again, worn out knees and hips would simply be replaced with robotic attachments.... wouldn't they? It didn't bear thinking about, the sudden silence however did. T'Vhor had been reading through lines of mnemonic code on a terminal screen, hoping semingly against hope that he might find a means to bypass the door closure mechanism for their mysterious room. Gunnell had returned to the computer core with Kowalski, whilst O'Hara had been tasked to remain with the Captain and come up with a way to blow the door 'without' sending the contents of the bridge, and themselves out into space! He wasn't having much luck, which was just as well... From the corner of his eye, the Marine had espied movement and in consequence, he had raised his III-C assault rifle to discriminate the possible target. It took mere seconds for the intelligent scope to earmark the target as Borg, the trademark low thermal image denoting the lack of warm blood upon it's exposed skin as it moved. O'Hara remained silent and took aim, then in an instance, a green pulse shot across the room and into the Borg's chest as it entered through the door and reached to almost touch the Captain. The Captain shot to his feet of course, then he turned to see a smiling O'Hara, his rifle still at the ready just in case his shot had not been as good as he had first thought. "Thank you", said the Captain, "although you could have shot sooner", he added. O'Hara shook his head. "If I had then I may have missed sir", said O'Hara, "if I'd allowed the Borg to infect and assimilate the Captain of the Spectre, Kowalski would have spaced me for sure", he added. The Captain pursed his lips and then quirked his head to one side. "Indeed", he said, before returning to the makeshift seat and the lines of code once again. "Any luck sir?", enquired O'Hara. "No, the Borg encryption is too deep, what we need here is a......", said the Captain, trailing off in his sentence now as the realisation hit home. "Sir?", enquired O'Hara. "What we need here is another Borg", said the Captain, this time finishing the sentence he had begun earlier. O'Hara glanced to the newly offline drone upon the decking and shook his head. "Well, that one ain't gonna do", he quipped, just as the Captain opened a channel to the Spectre. "T'Vhor to Spectre", he called. (Reply Williams, Any on Bridge) "Have Lieutenant Donaldson beam over to the Borg vessel please Commander.... and have him bring his wife also", said the Captain. (Reply Williams) "Beam in coordinates are my current location... Captain out", said the Captain as he stood and returned to the 'troublesome' door and O'Hara. "Lieutenant Chenoll. you have the bridge." (Reply Chenoll IYW) He turned and walked towards the Captain’s ready room. He didn't care if other people cared, he was cranky. "So's the Captain goes off with the nutty Doctor to the freakin' borg ship, an' why's? Why should we knows? We're just marines. Its just our job to do this stuff for him, why's let us do it? Why nots bring a few engineers with him, or evens a marine who has hacked borg code in the past? Nooo.. instead he gets the Chief-Seck's nuttier ex-wife. SOME would claims the Captains didn't have me alongs 'cause I'm crazy, I thinks I'm not crazy enough!" He dared any of the other marines to contradict him as he glared around the room. They were studiously ignoring him. "Alls I know is I'm puttin' in for a transfers. I dunno ifs I'm goin' back to being a civvy, or maybes a brewer of really goods wine, or what, but I'm done with this stuffs, man. I'm tired of being overlooked when there's stuff to blow up, I'm tired of CO's who don't know whens to keep their heads down, and I'm tireds of .. well, everything!" He sighed, "War sucks. Why couldn't I have been good at peace?" It was a rhetorical question, many marines had asked it and few probably had ever come up with a good answer. Rameriz just had to figure out a safe place to be where Orions couldn't get to him; Luna city hadn't been safe, would Madrid be any safer? (Reply None) (Posted by Lorna) (USS Spectre – Bridge – Chief Ops, Lt. After a brief greeting, Commander Williams left, leaving Chenoll in charge. "Lieutenant Chenoll. you have the bridge." "Aye, sir!" The blue Bolian replied promptly. "Not at this time sir, the Borg sphere has yet to resurface, either now or.... in the past. Logic dictates that as we are still conversing and Starfleet is still very much in existence, a timeline incursion into our own past is not possible", said the Captain. The Admiral pursed his lips and furrowed his brow, clearly Starfleet was worried about these latest developments but what could they do but act as proactively, though carefully as possible? "Lieutenant Commander Rogers is of the opinion that we should destroy the river now sir, the possibility does exist that the Borg may have directly programmed it to be acting in an aggressive manner towards us.... however, as it has already attacked one of their own ships, this is highly unlikely", said T'Vhor. =/\=Agreed=/\= said Jefferson, pausing now in thought. =/\=Continue with your current course of action until further notice, do not attempt to incapacitate, destroy, or otherwise render the river useless unless it is absolutely necessary=/\= "Understood sir", said the Captain. =/\=Ensure Doctor Gunnell has everything she needs to get to the bottom of this.... and keep me updated of any further developments... Stardate 2408.06.08 - 12:23 hundred hours", he began. "The ship is now sitting twenty thousand kilometres from the subspace river after suffering what appears to be an attack either from something within it's construct, or by the river itself. We have suffered minimal damage but have unfortunately lost one crewman, Ensign Nantz from a plasma leak occuring in one of our engineering maintainence crawlways", said the Captain, reaching for the glass of fruit juice beside him in order to take a small sip before continuing on. "Doctor Gunnell has now interfaced with the river via a modified class IV probe, her current evaluation is that the river has an organic component with similarities to a DNA helix, and that the Borg have somehow initiated execution of it's primary program, thus initiating it's current behaviour", said the Captain. "I am loathe to accept the somewhat illogical notion that the river is alive, however I cannot deny that it is acting in a manner indicative of a lifeform due to it's reaction to external stimuli" "Of the four Borg drones brought aboard the Spectre for analysis and de-assimilation, two have self terminated, the other two, Lieutenant Donaldsons wife amongst them have survived de-assimilation, but are at present uncooperative and obstructive to all attempts to initiate constructive furtherment of our situation.... I have asked Lieutenant Donaldson to work with the drone known as 'Judith', in the hope that he may encourage dormant memory engrams within her mind, thus increasing the likelihood of a return to some sort of normality for her" The Captain paused again to take another sip of his drink, then he returned to the log entry. "Captain Talasario of the science vessel USS Humboldt is now in attendance as requested by Starfleet, his presence here however continues to fuel misgivings amongst certain crew members, due to his earlier conduct whilst serving against us during the civil war as CO of the USS Alacrity. It would seem that Lieutenant Adams has particular grievance towards him, although given his familial connections, this is entirely understandable... I had gotten the prime minister and I was looking for away out. The holographic Marines that come with you aren't very smart, they often get themselves killed or, get me laid out in the holodeck, as you can see," Khran said. “I see, have you thought about keeping the safeties on but increasing the difficulty instead?” "I haven't felt the need to turn on holodeck safeties yet, including this incident. I am still alive, aren't I?" Khran asked. Calvin could tell that the Andorian wasn’t going to give up easy, and it wasn’t necessarily his job to convince him otherwise. However Lt Cmdr Capps cared for his crew and wished there was another way for the Marine to train. “Yes you are alive, but it would have been just as easy for you not to be,” Calvin said hoping the words were heard. "What if I had injured myself working out in the gymnasium? I see little difference." Khran said. “Lt Khran. I understand your feelings on the matter. I know the importance of every crew member being ready for anything. Who would have thought that earlier today the River would come to life, but it did. We need to be prepared, but……we also need to be alive for when those times come. You are a very important member of this crew. You are in a command position. A position we can not afford to lose good people to in training.” Calvin thought he summed up what he had to say decently. He would of course give the Lt a chance to rebuttal, but Calvin was not going to argue with him. Whatever the Marine had to say after this he was just going to let it roll away. He had to, because this was not his fight. This was Calvin’s opinion over another. (reply Khran) “Very well sir. I will write my report and send it to the Chief of Security.
