Windsong-Trommashere - 16:30) "So, to finish up...the Dorsal root ganglion is made up of what parts...Mair're?" "Uh...Dendrite, Soma, and Axon?" A very small and slight smile twitched at the corner of the raven haired Doctors' lips. She nodded as she turned off her lectern console. "Perfect. For tomorrow we will be studying the Cranio-Facial nerves. Please have memorized the names and locations. There will be a quiz on sections of the spinal cord and what they control as well as the sections of the brain and what dies if one of those sections go bad. See you tomorrow." The classroom slowly emptied out as Angeni busied herself at her desk. She sat, her bright grey eyes fliting over the screen of a padd, checking her schedule for the rest of the day. With any luck, she could get to the training center before everyone and catch a quick shower and decompress before she had to start the next part of her day. The screen went black and she studied her reflection in the glossy surface; the crows feet were slowly branching out from the corners of her eyes and the dark circles under her eyes were more obvious than they used to be. Her hair was flat and lifeless and her skin didn't have its usual tawny tone. "Ugh..." With that, she threw down the pad and hurrdily walked from the classroom, her white lab coat billowing behind her. She kept her eyes on the floor as she moved and no one spoke, but they all watched her pass. Whispers abounded about the Cherokee Doctor; it was no secret that she was nearly thrown out of Starfleet, how she plead guilty to insubordination and lost her license for eighteen months. She had gotten a job teaching at the University just because she was the head Trauma Attending at the University's Hospital; all the department heads were Associate Professors in their chosen specialty. Angeni jammed her finger against the elevator button over and over again. She looked at the Chronometer on her wrist and she began to push the button faster. Please...Mother...please let this elevator come before she gets here... "Hey! Doc! Wait up!" A high toned, yet sultry voice called out behind. Angeni cursed under her breath and turned around, not even attempting to put a fake smile on her face. "Dr. Na'vani. What a pleasure." Angeni's voice was smooth as silk. A tall, blonde woman stalked up to Angeni in a slow, measured way. Angeni tried not to stiffen up, but she felt her back press up against the wall. Adrian Na'vani was in love with Angeni, no matter how many times she turned her down. Angeni had unknowingly cultivated a friendship with the other Doctor, but after a night of drinking real Ethanol and skinny dipping in a lake, it was made apparent to Angeni that Adrian's feelings were not as plautonic as hers were. Since then, she tolerated the Cardiologist, but had slowly been separating herself from her. Adrian came and wrapped Angeni up into a hug, brushing her cheek against Angeni's. "So, tell me. Drinks this weekend?" Angeni shook her head, quickly stepping around the woman to put some space between them. "No. I have training all weekend. We're getting in some green dogs and handlers, so the first few days can be rough..." Deep, blue eyes peeked out from under blonde bangs. Red, full lips slowly contorted themselves into a pout and the sulty voice had a bit of a whine to it, "But...I was looking forward to spending time with you." DING! The elevator door slid open and Angeni stepped inside as she grabbed the arm of the other Physician. "Look..." Angeni started as the doors slid shut, "I am all for having a good time and enjoying time with close friends...but you want more from me than I will ever be able to give to you. We are friends, nothing more...you got it?" Adrian nodded slightly, her head down, "I just figured you were...you know...because you are always alone. I think I'm your only friend." The good Doctor was right. Angeni's only friend was Adrian. If it wasn't for the slightly stalkerish heart surgeon, no one would find her body until it started to smell if she died in her sleep. She didn't go out to any functions or parties put on by the University or her fellow Professors. She came, she taught, and she went home. The young Cherokee was in bed by midnight, reading a book, surrounded by her dogs and cat. The more she thought about it, the more she thinks the only person who had ever been in her home was Adrian. "Uh...look. I'll call you Saturday night. Maybe dinner?" Adrian smiled at the sad eyed Doctor. "Sure. My treat. Friends?" For the first time in several months, a very slight smile crossed her lips. "Friends." She turned back and saw the captain leaving the bar followed by some others, he seemed to preoccupy himself with something then spoke out. "Strange", said the Captain, looking at his tricorder. "this was not here before, and it does not seem to conform to a power emanation that we might expect on this Moon" Overhearing the Captain Ilana moved closer hiding her own tricorder she began a scan, the power emissions was clearly not of local origin but also very very faint. “It could be a piece of imported technology sir,” She ventured as she passed a second scan, “This planet has picked up quite a bit of foreign trade in the last few years, we’ve got Ferengi, Yridian’s even a few Selay planet side, one of them could have activated this device.” She said not quite believing her own words, “Or it could be something worse” She said to herself in the privacy of her own head. The Captain nodded but seemed to lost in thought "We will investigate the power reading later. That, is where we are meant to be headed right now.” He said pointing to the distance “Dr Riven and Mr Lotheran are by now, surely awaiting us" Ilana thought about it, the two old men, the both seemed fairly drunk along with the younger companion, they had been sitting in a bar without any prosthetic makeup they were out in the open as humans, or more precisely two humans and one Betazoid, although the differences externally were always hard to tell, heck a half Betazoid could pass as human some didn’t even have Telepathic abilities. She wondered why the Cardy’s didn’t seem to notice them. She noticed the captain walking off up the path so she opted to follow (Reply None) (Posted by Jo) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - ACSciO, Ensign(jg) Ilana Grey - 17:44) Once they had cleared the small wood surrounding the main area of town there were a few small cottages around them, all of the three point popular Cardasian design, Ilana could never understand why Cardassian’s seemed to have a penchant for three point buildings, to her the buildings looked brown and aggressive but she guessed each species would see the world differently. One of the things she noticed and could tell the captain had noticed was the smell of wood fires. In this day and age there was no reason for a wood fire, it was unsustainable, bad for the environment, humans had stopped using wood fires in dwellings hundreds of years ago, occationally, rarely you would find in an old building a fireplace, her father’s house had had one, although it had never been lit, she had used to sit in it and read in her spare time. The captain indicated the house and moved to the door and knocked, Ilana began to tap her foot expectantly she forced herself to stop, she looked nervous she clutched her hands behind her back to stop herself fidgeting. "Come in gentlemen and ladies." Grinned the younger human. Ilana noted the contents of the house, it was mostly human, but there were aspects of all races in orniments, on a small dresser was a picture of what looked like a younger Lotheran, the old man she had seen playing sax, in the picture he looked in his mid twenties, he was smiling next to him was a younger woman he was hugging. "Dr. Mias nap time is over." She heard the officer say waking up the old betazoid "What? Oh gad! All right, all right I'm awake." She suppressed a giggle as the old mind healer jumped awake with a start "Go let Loth know his visitors have arrived would you?" The younger man left, she was wondering who these people were and why the captain would trust them so. "Have a seat Captain, I'm sure Loth has something in the larder he'll want to offer, as for me I need a glass of water, if you'll excuse me." Spoke the Betazoid, Ilana knew not to be offended that he had offered the captain a seat but no one else, it was protocol, but ah for the days when a woman was the first to be offered a seat. She grinned to herself. “Who are these people do you know?” She whispered across to Lt. Palmer (Reply Palmer) (Posted By Jo) (Amleth – Amparus, Corvus District – CMO, Noah – 17:45) He was happy to be out of the bar with all those people that could be watching them. He kept a sharp look out as they moved along through the village passed the houses. ~This is a nice place if it was not in Cardassian territory~ "This way.” Said T’Vhor as Noah followed his. They finally came to a stop in front of a house "I believe that we have found our destination", stated the Captain, Noah looked at it and the houses around it. “This is a nice place.” T'Vhor then moved to the door of the house, knocked and it was opened by Lt. Gerald. ~Hope he is feeling a bit better now~ "Come in gentlemen and ladies." Grinned Gerald. Noah followed the other into the house. As he entered he saw Gerald speaking to Riven who looked like he had just woken up. "Go let Loth know his visitors have arrived would you?" As Gerald left the room Riven turned to them. "Well welcome, you made good time." Noah nodded in reply (Reply: Any) Riven then turned to T’Vhoe. "Have a seat Captain, I'm sure Loth has something in the larder he'll want to offer, as for me I need a glass of water, if you'll excuse me." (Reply: T'Vor) By the time Riven, Loth and Gerald had returned Noah had was leaning against the wall as there was not a lot of space due to every one being in the same room. He then waited to see how this was going to unfold. (Reply any) (Reply: T'Vor, any) (Posted by Robbie) (Amleth – Amparus, Corvus District – Civilian, Lotheran Pesoj – 17:50) Loth came out from the back room he had wrapped his long grey hair back into a pony tail, He picked up his tinted glasses and looked over at all the cardassians now occupying his living room. “Either I’m having a house party for Halloween or there are a lot of Starfleet in this town. “In the words of a famous host, Welcome to my house, come freely and Go safely and leave something of the happiness you bring.” He smiled around the room noticing an man and woman talking behind the captain, “I heard brain doc mentioning food, well I do have food, but unless it’s a BBQ or a Curry I’m one of the worst cooks in the world, I can make a good herbal cake and tea but that’s about it.” He smiled to himself “I’ve got some standard rations in the pantry or if any of you fine Starfleet survivalists know how to cook have a look,” He looked at the captain with a smile, “So what will it be T’vor?” (Reply T’vor, Any away team member) His house had been built for one, maybe having three or four guests over for dinner once in a while certainly was ill equipped for this many visitors he opted to let the others take a seat he was the host after all, although he knew he was going to be regretting this for a few days, not just the drink but with his illness any exertion always took it’s toll the next day, for all he knew he might be unconscious for a few days, he hated that. He rummaged around in a cabnet and brought out two bottles of Synthale, “About as Alcoholic as a glass of milk but the taste is right” He said pulling the plastic cork out with his teeth and spitting it across the room into a small basin, he poured a few glasses of the Synthale, and took one for himself “Tastes like watered down beer but it’s mildly refreshing, especially for anyone who’s had a few too many glasses of Romulan ale.” He said looking across the room pointedly at Gerald. He noticed Riven heading back in to the room. “I would have suggested we sit outside but that kind defeats the point of you coming here doesn’t, speaking of which why are you here?” He asked sipping one of the glasses of Synthale it was slightly tarter than usual, possibly it had spoiled a bit but probably wasn’t that harmful. (Reply: T’vor, Riven, Awayteam?) (Posted by Jo) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CSO, lt. jg. Kurt Palmer - 17:55) Palmer enjoyed having some fresh air finally as he followed the group. He didn't really catch the conversation or where they were going, but he figured the captain had the situation under control. "Come in gentlemen and ladies." Said the SFI officer from earlier after inspecting the group. As they entered a small dwelling of sorts he heard a voice behind him "Dr. Mias nap time is over." "Go let Loth know his visitors have arrived would you?" Came Dr. Mias' voice There was a small amount of banter. Kurt watched from the sidelines, his thoughts finally clearing again.... “Who are these people do you know?” Kurt's science colleague whispered to him. Kurt turned and responded softly, "the older man is a Betazoid, high up on the food chain from what I gather. His counterpart is some SFI guy, and I believe the Human is the owner of that bar and clearly knows something useful." His explanation was as clear as he could make from, the now blurry, information he had... And yet not the most helpful... (Reply, Grey) ((Post by Cody)) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CO Captain T'Vhor - 17:56) The Captain and his away team members had accepted the invite to enter graciously, and then availed themselves of the seating within the small room whilst Dr Mias asked his friend to let Lotharan know that he now had company. Away to one side, Palmer spoke to Ensign Grey, the two of them seemingly curious as to just where all of this was heading now and the reports of the earlier developments in orbit obviously playing heavily on their minds. The Captain looked around, noting as he did so the somewhat sparse, but symetrical decorations of the mans home. This either represented an ordered mind or perhaps just someone that preferred to make the best use of such little space. In the centre of the longest wall though, a welcoming fire burned and crackled, the source of the carbonised aromas that the Captain had sampled earlier no doubt. Allowing his thoughts to drift, the Captain found them focussing upon his ship in orbit of Amleth and to what might be transpiring to his crew as the away team sat in relative comfort in Lotherans home. Having no real communications with the ship other than the phase shifted remote beacon they carried with them, nobody could tell if the Spectre had actually been discovered at all, and with the saboteur trying his or her level best to make that a reality, time was proving to be of the essence now. Lotharan then appeared in the room, the evidence of tiredness still visible in his eyes as he nodded to those assembled accordingly. The Captain then turned to Riven and immediately layed his cards on the table. "I think that the time has come for you to know exactly who it is that we are seeking, Doctor", he began, still aware of course that Riven himself was a relatively unknown quantity, but deferring now to the need for expediency in this matter and the reassurance of his councillor that the man could be trusted. "The individual that we seek is a Cardassian Scientist named Targin Lau. He may be incognito in Amparus but, this is the only likeness that we have of him", said the Captain, offering the Doctor a small device which now displayed the last known picture of Lau himself" (Reply Riven, Any) The Captain quirked his head and then continued on. "It is imperative that we locate him sooner, rather than later as his life is in danger, as is our own and those of my crew still in orbit for every hour that we remain here", said the Captain. (Reply Riven, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - ACSciO Ens. Ilana Grey - 17:57) After asking Palmer the question he turned and replied to Ilana "The older man is a Betazoid, high up on the food chain from what I gather. His counterpart is some SFI guy, and I believe the Human is an owner of that bar and clearly knows something useful." His explanation was as clear as he could make from, the now blurry, information he had... And yet not the most helpful... Ilana thought about it, “I think the human just play’s his instruments at the bar, that large Cardassian looked like the owner.” She replied, “I wonder what a human was doing on this planet.” She said partially to herself. The old human handed her a glass of sythale, it smelt bad but she didn’t want to appear to be an ungracious guest so she sipped at it, it wasn’t so much bad as extremely bitter. She looked at the glass that had been offered to Palmer and had to suppress a giggle, it would probably be a while before the LT. would want to try and match her drink for drink again… although she had cheated. She looked the old man up and down as he, the Betazoid and the captain talked, She wondered what was going on, was this their contact? She moved to a window and kept a watchful eye out. (No Reply Needed) ((Posted By Jo)) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - Dr. Riven Mias and SFI Lieutenant David Gerald - 17:58) As Riven sipped his water he tried to wake himself up, the abbreviated nap after two nearly sleepless days had hurt more than helped it seemed and his brain was still a bit foggy from the alcohol. He had expected the LP to arrive a little later but it was what it was and he would have to make the best of it. Captain T'Vor;'s face had an introspective look for a bit as he looked around and waited for Loth's arrival, you didn't need to be a mind reader to see that he was worried about something and what else would a Captain worry about than his ship? Riven kept his mind to himself, determined to be a gentlemen despite his curiosity. Despite his half Betazoid heritage the Spectre CO seemed to be a very private individual and not someone who used his mental abilities often, a situation the mind healer would honor. Loth didn't appeared to be in worse shape than Riven himself but the other man's fatigue was due to a physical ailment so he looked at the human a bit sadly, determined to see that he got some relief soon. The Betazoid's keen hearing picked up a whisper from two of the officers, Palmer and Grey but he couldn't make out the words and refused to eavesdrop on them as well so turned a smile on them before grinning at the crusty human's welcome to the group into his abode. Greetings ended the CO turned his gaze upon Riven with intensity. "I think that the time has come for you to know exactly who it is that we are seeking, Doctor" Riven gave a visible start. Sure it was true he wanted desperately to help but owing to his detached status and the Captain's suspicions which were well placed he had given up on expecting to take a tangible part in the operation. This instance of T'Vor reaching out to him could show more desperation than tactical planning. "The individual that we seek is a Cardassian Scientist named Targin Lau. He may be incognito in Amparus but, this is the only likeness that we have of him." Riven took the small PADD from T'Vor's hand and studied the picture intently, even though he desperately wanted to be of assistance the fact was he had not seen the man while he was here, nor did he know of him. He heard a chuckle from behind and turned an irritated glance back over his shoulder at Lt. Gerald.. "I suppose you find this amusing that I've seen nothing of this world except the inside of a house for three days until today." "Actually I'm not laughing at you." The tall, dark headed officer said as he held out his hand for the picture. Riven's eyes narrowed and he passed it to him. "I was amused because I know just who they're looking for." He held up his hand before the outburst that was coming. (Reply: Any iyw) "I've never met him but I'm aware of him, he was doing some very important research before his disappearance. Rumor has it that he made his way here. The SFI has a safe house here, if he ended up there..." "You mean you deliberately held back information that could have helped us!" Riven's voice was rising. (Reply: Any iyw) Gerald cut in quickly. "There are some things more important than the little mission we were on and I didn't say he IS there, only he might have found his way there. It's only a possibility but we do have a few contacts among the Cardassians." T'Vor quirked his head a bit which often meant curiosity for a Vulcan though they wouldn't admit it. "It is imperative that we locate him sooner, rather than later as his life is in danger, as is our own and those of my crew still in orbit for every hour that we remain here". "I understand that Captain." Gerald nodded his head. "Which is why I brought up the matter of the safe house. If he found his way to it he could be there now, or he could have been there and left but dropped a clue to his current location." (Reply: T'Vhor, any) "You keep saying if." Riven interjected. "IF he found out, if he went there. I get the feeling you're either hiding something or sending us on a wild goose chase." "The Intelligence officer turned a penetrating gaze on the Betazoid. "All right let me fill in the blanks for you doctor. Lau DID make contact with one of our sources, he WAS told about the safe house but I have no facts to support that he is there. Does that satisfy you?" Riven nodded curtly. "Then you had better tell us here this safe house is so we can check." "I was getting to that." Gerald let the corners of his lips curl up in amusement. "But you forced yourself into the conversation." He then chuckled as the mind healer went red faced in embarrassment and lifted the glass of water back to his lips as he looked away. The Lieutenant then handed the picture back to the Captain and pulled another small unit from a pocket of the Cardassian civilian clothing he was wearing and activated it. He scrolled through the overlay of the local map that came up until he came to the area he was looking for, marked it then passed it to the Captain. (Reply: T'Vhor) He then looked at Riven. "My apologies doctor but we all have secrets." He then answered the CO. "That is the place I would start my search, stumbling about the city will get you nowhere quickly." (Reply: T'Vhor, any) (Posted by Charles) (Earth - Hangar 64 - Dr. Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere - 18:00) Angeni looked dramatically different in the hangar. Tight black pants fitted with thigh holsters that were filled with high powered photon pistols and medical packs adorned her legs. A tight, black tank top revealed a tattoo across her lower back; Res nos operor ut alius algo. She fidgeted with the strap of the Phaser-Rifle that crossed across her chest. Her demeanour was different. Gone was the soft toned professor. Here she was, strong, authorataive, and looking as if she wasn't going to take crap from anyone. A bunch of humanoid males stood around a table on the other side of the room talking Photon Pistols, Phaser Rifles, and how many women they got after that weekend. It was a new batch of Tactical Medics that had gone through their Tactical Training and they all looked at Angeni as if she were a piece of meat. A sandy haired man elbowed the guy standing next to him, "So...you think she's the prize for graduating first?" They all snickered amongst themselves as they did a personal inventory. A Klingon walked up behind Angeni, tapping her on her shoulder. The young woman nearly jumped out of her skin. "Drak!" "Sorry, hon..." came the low rumbling apology. "Think you can handle them on your own?" Angeni nodded. "Don't see why not. Once you get past the machismo, it's easy." "Yeah, but these are fresh, just out of rotation Starfleet Marines. They aren't the civies you are used to." Angeni shrugged, "Not worried." The Klingon looked down at her, his arms crossed over his chest. Standing a full foot and nearly a half over her, he felt more like the older brother than a colleague. "I worry." He looked at her, then put a hand on her shoulder. "Call your class." Angeni nodded and took a step forward. Her body snapped to attention and her voice rang out, loud and proud through the hanger. "LINE UP! FRONT AND CENTER!" "There are some things more important than the little mission we were on and I didn't say he IS there, only he might have found his way there. "Then you had better tell us here this safe house is so we can check." “I was getting to that." ~Well if you could hurry up it would be nice. Its not like we have a pressing prior engagement or something~ "But you forced yourself into the conversation." Gerald gave T’Vhor a small device which he looked at. (Reply: T'Vhor) "My apologies doctor but we all have secrets." Gerald spoke to Raven and then to T’Vhor. Starfleet Intelligence invariably lived up to their true colours in the end, and regardless of how long it actually took for them to show, his was now glowing brightly. Riven had seemed somewhat annoyed that the SFI man had not imparted the just released knowledge sooner, although in all honesty, perhaps it was better that than later still. "You mean you deliberately held back information that could have helped us!", he had asked, a query that made the Captain wonder. Why had Riven not felt an inkling of such knowledge during the times he must have glimpsed into his mind? The Captain knew of course that the telepathic moral laws prevented such acts as covert excursions through the mind of an unwilling participant, but these people were friends! "There are some things more important than the little mission we were on and I didn't say he IS there, only he might have found his way there. It's only a possibility but we do have a few contacts among the Cardassians.", answered Gerald, defensively. The Captain's interest though was certainly piqueing. "It is imperative that we locate him sooner, rather than later as his life is in danger, as is our own and those of my crew still in orbit for every hour that we remain here", he said. "I understand that Captain... Which is why I brought up the matter of the safe house. If he found his way to it he could be there now, or he could have been there and left but dropped a clue to his current location.", said Gerald. The raised an eyebrow quizzically, as both Riven and Gerald traded verbal blows regarding the efficacy of the entire situation that had now unfolded. Gerald then apologised to Riven for witholding information and handed the Captain another device, this time displaying a map showing the location of the safehouse, and hopefully of Lau himself. "That is the place I would start my search, stumbling about the city will get you nowhere quickly.", he offered. The Captain wasn't going to argue with that logic, that much was for sure. "How long will it take us to reach this area?", he asked, hoping now that the SFI man would not be holding anything else back. (Reply Gerald, Any) "You do not have to accompany us of course. You seem in need of rest so we can continue alone if need be", said the Captain. (Reply Riven, Gerald, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Earth - Hanger 64 - Dr. Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere - 18:05) All of the men turned and just stared at Angeni as if a Klingon Targ had just appeared before them. They slowly put their gear in their holsters, each one of them taking their sweet time. Angeni stalked up to the group, her thick soled tactical boots thumping on the concrete floor. Moving quickly, she walked right up to the 'Alpha' of the group, standing no more than a foot from him. "What's your name..." her eyes darted quickly to his right arm, "Cheif?" The man slowly turned to her, barely acknowledging her presence. "Maxon Richards..." His eyes darted up and down her frame, lingering just below her collar bone before meeting her eyes, "Ma'am..." The hangar was deathly quiet. Maxon took a slight step towards her, shoving his Photon Pistol in a holster on his hip. He never broke eye contact with her. "This is my team, the 42nd Fighting Sehlats." The men moved up, just behind Maxon, standing proudly behind him. "Richards..." She nodded, moving forward. She quickly claimed the space between them, leaving him little room between them. Some of the men backed off quickly, while others slowly backed off. "When I tell you to do something, I expect it to be done immediately, not when you feel like it." He didn't move, but he didn't back down either. "With all due respect, we will only show you the respect you have earned. So far, you are lucky we're still here." He raised an eyebrow, an expert at this particular game. He took a half step forward, leaning down, whispering softly in her ear. "You aren't the only Alpha Dog here, Ms. Trommashere." He leaned back, staring into her eyes. Her eyes blazed with the fire of a thousand fledgling stars. Her hands balled into fists at her side. Before she could let a strong, right hook fly, Drak stepped up behind her, a lone finger in the small of her back. "Why don't we all take ten..." He rumbled quietly. Angeni stared at Maxon and he finally turned around, walking away. "Before you make an ass out of yourself..." he shot a quick look at her, before winking lightly. He turned the Cherokee woman around, walking with her to the front of the room, his voice low. "Ang...you've got to be more approachable, friendly, sweet...you know, nice." She curled her lip at him, brushing him off to examine her rifle. "No, you do. Why can't you just give a little bit? Be the person Riven fell in love with." Angeni whirled around on her heels, glaring daggers at Drak. Her voice was low and held the tone of pure, unbridled anger and hatred "I told you. Do. NOT. Speak. Of. Him. EVER!" Her chest heaved with every breath while her face was crimson with rage. She slung the rifle strap over her body and turned her head to the left, issuing a sharp, crisp whistle from her lips. From the dark corners of the hangar appeared two, large leggy dogs. Neither dog looked like a normal, domestic breed, but they both wore collars and vests denoting their offical K9 status. The dogs stalked out behind her and she left the hangar without another word. (Reply None) (Posted by Kari) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - SFI Lieutenant Gerald and Dr. Riven Mias - 18:06) "How long will it take us to reach this area?", The Captain asked Gerald directly, his curiosity evident. The Star Fleet Intelligence operative allowed his gaze to travel about the room as he considered the time frame. The building was also on the outskirts of the city as would be expected though not so far from Loth's house as his had been from the tavern. Though he and the doctor could have made for it rather than accompany the elderly human it was more expedient to go somewhere, anywhere else as the less attention drawn to the place the better. Dr. Mias' perspective on the matter notwithstanding Gerald's reasoning had been sound. Although the Dr.'s mission here was strictly humanitarian Gerald's was not, it was his job to insure not only that the mission had been accomplished but that 'Other' things be set in order. One of those things was at this moment being discussed. His eyes traveled back to the Captain's face and he held his eyes firmly, his earlier facade dropped. "Approximately forty five minutes Captain T'Vor, assuming a stealthy rate of travel to the North East side of the city. You will need me to accompany you as I am the only one here who can gain access to it without raising an alarm." Whatever the Captain thought of his forcing his way into the search he held in check, his face inscrutable, instead of answering Gerald directly he shifted his attention to the Betazoid. "You do not have to accompany us of course. You seem in need of rest so we can continue alone if need be." Riven immediately shook his head. "I am quite awake and able Captain, I assure you I would not miss the opportunity. Besides," His eyes narrowed as he looked back to Gerald. "You will need all the eyes you can get to watch this one." Riven felt like a fool, he had let his guard down with the agent, even come to respect him a bit after the talk he had with him earlier but that trust had dissipated somewhat to be replaced with caution. Volumes were left open to interpretation owing to what Gerald had not said, like why he knew what he did and what his true motives were in regards to the fleeing Cardassian. (Reply: T'Vor, any) Gerald shrugged at the Betazoid's hot look, even though the agency worked for StarFleet they were rarely trusted by them because of behaviors he had noted to Dr. Mias earlier. As for Lau, well he would use the Landing Party to gain access to him then assess the situation as per the back up plan initiated by his superiors. Lau's fate was as yet to be determined. He shrugged and crossed his arms over his chest. "It looks like we're ready when you are Captain." (Reply: T'Vor, any) (Posted by Charles) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CSO lt. jg. T'Vhor continued his discussion with Dr. Mias and the SFI officer he had inferred was lieutenant Gerald. It was sounding more and more like the captain wanted to get a move on. Kurt swallowed dryly and glanced over at Ilana to gauge her feelings about the present situation. (Reply, Gray iyw) Kurt's gaze fell back on the conversation before them. He never much liked star fleet intelligence, since his work at UFP, and this Lt. Gerald wasn't falling into Kurt's good graces on principal. (Reply, Gray iyw) ((Post by Cody)) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - ACSciO Ensign(jg) Ilana Grey - 18:11) Ilana saw Palmer looking over at her, she suddenly felt slightly out of her depth. Starfleet intelligence, was oddly enough a small part of the academy training that they didn’t really cover. Especially not for Science officers, she had learned about masking probes and taking samples and the methods of studying photonic waveforms but nothing about being undercover in a potentially hostile planet with what seemed like a crazy old human, a Betazoid brain doctor and a Starfleet intelligence operative, her father had once told her of a secretive branch of SFI department forty-two or something she had opted not to believe in it since it sounded more like the old Obsidian Order or the Tal-shiar of the Romulans. Even the Klingon’s were known to have a MI called the Black Fleet or something she thought it odd at the time that a species as honorable as the Klingons would have an undercover agency, yet she knew not all Klingon’s were entirely honorable. She glanced back to Palmer, and whispered across to him, “Is that pill taking effect yet?” She asked with a smile. (Reply Palmer) She felt slightly guilty for tricking him but served him right for being so boisterous in the bar. She could still feel the alcohol in her system, she suppressed a burp of the sickly Kanar, covering her mouth, it was possibly one of the few drinks she would never have again even though she hadn’t got drunk from it the cloying sweetness was still clinging to her throat. (Reply Palmer) (Posted by Jo) (Amleth - Amparus, Corvus District - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 18:12) Gerald was not winning any prizes right now for eliciting confidence in any of the away team, but then again, did SFI ever elicit confidence in anyone? By their very nature they were sneaky, devious, prone to deception and invariably untrustworthy when it came to anyone outside of intelligence itself. Indeed, had they never worn a uniform or spoken in terms beneficial to the Federation itself, then one might be forgiven for imagining that they might be Tal Shiar and not Starfleet at all! The Captain was not alone in his thoughts either it would seem, for his keen hearing had already detected the dissent being verbalised by Grey and Palmer, albeit under their breath, and even Noah had directly referred to the man as a 'Spook'. Could they now trust him to safely lead them? Right now though it was a moot point, for in short they had little choice but to do so anyway, but they could at least keep an eye on him. "It looks like we're ready when you are Captain." said Gerald, breaking the Captain's thoughts now. "Indeed", said T'Vhor, glancing then towards Riven, who still looked somewhat surprised and perturbed by his friends apparent holding back on the necessary facts until so late. "I suggest that we proceed forthwith then", said the Captain, already moving towards the door as the others of the group alighted and then followed suit. As they moved out through the door though, T'Vhor queried Riven once again once Gerald had moved out of earshot. Lt. Gerald fell into step until after they had cleared the portal then looked around at the path between the houses which was dusty with an orange/red clay and for the moment not otherwise occupied. The houses looked strangely forbidding amidst the sparse vegetation which grew glumly around them. The agent got his bearings, remembering the path directions from the small padd which he had handed to the captain with an almost photographic recall then turned left to follow what was little more than a gravel and clay path this far into the outskirts of the settlement. The sky was beginning to lower with dark clouds on the horizon but they still had plenty of daylight left to find the house, almost two hours to be precise. If necessary they could hole up there for the night if the search took them beyond the safe house. He set a stiff pace while they were undetected, it would have been preferential to move outside the city and hurry to their destination which would have cut their journey by fifteen minutes but Cardassian sensors would assuredly have detected such a fast pace and raised an alarm. T'Vhor slowed his pace to match Riven's as the agent took point for the group and spoke to him in a low but clear tone. "Do you trust him?" The Betazoid frowned at the question. "Not very far Captain. I really didn't get to know him on the flight here and was extremely busy when we arrived. We had a chat that put my mind at ease for a while but now... I don't know. I can understand keeping the safe house secret unless there was absolutely no other alternative... it's not like I'm privy to their secrets after all but something doesn't feel right. He knows too much and is telling too little it seems to me and that always makes me nervous. Fortunately I've not had a lot of exposure to the 'agency' in the past but that only leaves me more clueless as to his motives." As the CO digested this Loth moved closer. "Captain if I may, I would recommend you follow Gerald, I wouldn't trust any Starfleet as far as they can be thrown but his goals and yours are clearly along the same lines, also if he's right you accomplish your mission, if he's tricking you weeellll.... whats the worst that could happen? I'm sure I'll be found out." Riven smiled at the human's no-nonsense approach and synopsis. In the end that's what it all boiled down to. "I'll keep my mind open in case there are any surprises. I get the feeling he's not going to allow a lot of stray surface thoughts but it won't hurt for me to keep track of the surroundings as well. Maybe I can head off any surprises we might run into." So instead of leaving the bridge he stepped lively to the science station. His hands danced over the compact controls, since on the Battle Bridge space was at a premium. He was not a science officer under the best of circumstances, however he knew enough to read the displays, which he did in a soft, but commanding voice. He knew that as a Commander that those that happened to be junior officers did indeed look up to him for guidance and he was an example to them. Therefore it behooved him to present the best example that he could. "The Galor and the Keldons are probably investigating the gas that was vented. We need to mask our emissions or they may just realize that it was not something as simple as a meteorite shower breaking up as it struck the Moons atmosphere", said Hoshimi. Liam nodded to his Commander and surveyed the best ways to do so. He felt a moment of relief when another suggested a better way to do so. There was talk with engineering, and Liam had to grin at the way that junior engineer had of anticipating. If Liam were in command of that department he would be promoting that junior engineer. Some Officers seemed to shine in the intensity of a crises situation, others tarnished and faded in their time in the sun, and were relegated to places that their particular shine could be polished and used effectively. He was lost in thought when he heard that the cardassians were moving towards him. "Are we venting anything that might give our position away?", she asked. "Anything at all?" The First Officer was looking directly at him and Liam directed his blue eyes down and away from the fiery Commander. "No Ma'am, not that we are able to detect, the phase cloak is intact and there doesn't appear to be," There was a note of suspicion in his voice as he looked up from the Science station and leaned forward slightly, "Might I suggest Ma'am that we use a shuttlecraft powered up but unlaunched to verify this? It's entirely possible that we are leaking something small that the Cardassians can track. Our Saboteur has been very intelligent in how they are going about their actions, I wouldn't put it pass the Saboteur having modified our sensors to be unable to perceive this. The shuttle has external, and closed sensors from the ship." He waited comfortably as others spoke, letting the First Officer think about his suggestion. One day Liam would be an excellent first officer. He just needed some seasoning first. (Reply Hoshimi, and any on the Bridge - Robbie? (posted by Mel.) (USS Spectre - Battle Bridge - FO, Commander Hoshimi Tsukawa - 18:28) So far, it seemed as though the suggestions that the Cardassians were simply tracking 'nothing' seemed to be gathering creedence, and that it was probable that they were merely following a standard search pattern. The possibility though that something might be giving their position away was still a viable alternative theory that deserved to be taken seriously. Holth had stated that nothing was being vented, and indeed the FO had no reason to suspect that thier sensors might be misleading them, then again, the identity of the saboteur had not yet been ascertained either. For all Tsukawa knew, it might even be Holth himself! "Might I suggest Ma'am that we use a shuttlecraft powered up but unlaunched to verify this? It's entirely possible that we are leaking something small that the Cardassians can track. Our Saboteur has been very intelligent in how they are going about their actions, I wouldn't put it pass the Saboteur having modified our sensors to be unable to perceive this. The shuttle has external, and closed sensors from the ship.", offered the Commander. Hoshimi pondered that for a moment or two. Holth had a point. What if their sensors HAD been messed with? Perhaps a scan from a shuttle craft might provide clarification? Then she shook her head in the negative. "No, we can't", she answered. "If we begin banging away with active sensor scans then we run the risk of giving our position away anyway.", she added, turning then to the TAC officer beyond to request further tactical updates on their 'friends'. This saboteur was really running rings around them and, after being assaulted by the person, Harrison was beginning to make this his personal mission to make sure they got caught. "Yes Ensign?", she inquired, noting the urgency upon the Ensigns face now as well as in his voice. “We have a problem.” "Elaborate", said Tsukawa, returning then to her own console and then running commands from it as Harrison gave his report. “The Cardassian ships are moving…. Towards us.”, said Harrison. "It could be a random course change just happening to correspond to our own. Is there any indication apart from their course and heading that might indicate that they have seen us?", asked the FO, hoping for the best now. “I can’t be sure but they are getting close.”, said Harrison. The FO wasted no time at all of course and immediately addressed Commandner Holth who had already taken up the Science console as previously ordered. "Are we venting anything that might give our position away?", she asked. "Anything at all?" (Reply Helm) "Mr Harrison, keep a close eye on those ships and report to me the moment any of them responds to our course change", said Tsukawa. Since the chief was manning the bridge station Jake was still in engineering coordinating repairs Only a few more minutes according to the tech working the main station and the subroutine routing would be completed. Teams were also at other points of the ship repairing bulkheads and the deck plating chief K'Tell had blown out to prevent asphyxiation of an affected area. That left him in a quandry, what to do about whomever was playing havoc with the ships systems? And it had to be a somebody as too many 'accidents' had been happening and it was too systematic. Of course the fact that someone had tried to send a message through their cloak was the big tip off. Security was trying to track the guy or gal down but was there anything he could do? Engineers were there to make things work so other people could use them, it wasn't their job to lock out certain systems though he had literally done that with the engine coolant subsystem. That was OPS and Security's job, Ops to monitor and control and Security to interdict. He couldn't monitor everything from down here like OPS could and shut systems down before they were compromised, no if he could do anything it would have to be to guess the enemies next move. So far all the hits had been potentially fatal but not a threat to the whole ship such as blowing the core, no explosives and the engines had never been a danger as they could be ejected if necessary. No someone was trying to scuttle them obviously, whether Cardassian mole or something else they were trying to get the ship noticed and/or captured. As long as the phase cloak was operable they were in little danger. He gave a start, the enemy had already made one attempt, who said they wouldn't try again! He went to the main terminal as the tech straightened up with a grin. "All done sir." "Excellent job!" Jake said but he wasn't smiling, "Let me have the console for a bit." "All yours sir." The man nodded and moved back then watched as Jake brought up the schematics for the cloaking system. A few seconds of inputting commands and the 3-D rendering of the ship began giving off blinking points of red which were main command/control nodes for the cloaking system. Every junction to which someone with a will could gain access that were a 'back door' to the system. "I don't understand sir." The man said. "But I think I'm beginning to." Jake slapped his combadge. "Ops this is ACEO Haltom in engineering, I'm routing coordinates for the junction access points to the phase cloak system to you. I suggest you isolate them with force fields." (Reply Ops) "Call it a hunch." He grunted. "I think they're going to make a play for the phase cloak again and these are the access points they can use for a back door. He stood to his feet and shouted for his aide as the monitor shut down. The man stepped through the open doorway and saluted. "Yes Gul, what do you require?" "Call out the garrison quietly. We may have intruders on the planet and I don't want them warned of a heightened alert if they are. At the moment this is a silent drill, do you understand? A silent drill." The man's face registered a mixture of emotions, shock at first then pleasure. At last, something to break the monotony! "Send the men out in teams of three as per standard search and interdict operations looking for anything out of the ordinary. They are to report in immediately if they note anything suspicious. You have ten minutes to get the teams ready." "Yes Gul, it will be done as ordered." "Then go!" The officer didn't need the prodding as he was already halfway out the door and pulling a communicator out to contact the team leaders designated for emergency operations throughout the city. Normally a siren from the main compound and general alert would go out to all stations but that was during a battle alert, they had all been trained for silent alert though in case of an infiltration by enemy units. This happened routinely and in his memory had not actually found anyone. Usually the alert would stand for at most a few hours then everyone would be told to stand down after anomalies were identified and cleared. Would this day be any different? probably not but this was their job and helped keep the men more alert for a few days at least. Tapping on his monitor, he asked the computer to access all previous computer access and cross reference it with known locations of the officers accessing the system. (Reply No-one) (Posted by Jackie Smith) (ATV Garallon - Ten Forward Lounge – Cadets Porsa and Kurrik - 18:45) The academy training vessel 'Garallon' was once again at warp, cruising towards a little known outpost known as Tarren IV, just One light year distant of Delta Aquilae. Those in command had not been acting in any way 'by the book' during this mission, and that had raised some concerns amongst the cadets onboard, not least of those being the Deltan hybrid Porsa, and the Vulcan Kurrik. Kurrik himself had tried to ratify the actions of the bridge crew on more than one occasion, actually fifty five times so far, and on each occasion, it still defied logic. "So, what do we do?", said Porsa, leaning towards the upright Kurrik with her hands clasped before her, and thinking long and hard about what they had been told. Then brushing aside a lock of hair that had fallen into her eyes, she spoke again before Kurrik could even answer. "This 'communication breakdown' doesn't seem right to me at all", she added. "I mean, have you ever heard of such a thing?" Kurrik raised an eyebrow in contemplation. "It does seem strange", he offered. "Although there have been a few incidents regarding loss of communication at various Starfleet outposts. The Tantallus array for example, and the Geneva incident" Both cadets then fell silent, as though contemplating both of those well referenced situations and applying it to their own, seemingly unique set of circumstances. A command team apparently out of communication with the rest of Starfleet, and having foregone normal protocol on a number of procedures already. Porsa glanced around the ten forward lounge at the others assembled there. Most seemed content to sip at their respective beverages and eat from their plates without too much visible concern, others sat quietly, perhaps wondering themselves why the training mission had not followed normal protocol. "Geneva was infected by a parasitic organism", offered Porsa, "it began with her command structure" Kurrik nodded, his hands clasped in front of him, his index fingers raised to touch his chin. "Apparently so", he answered. "Well", said Porsa, "don't you think that our own command structure is acting a little ... weird?" "There are defined discrepencies, yes. But those discrepancies may actually be a part of the puzzle that we, as academy cadets are posed to solve", said Kurrik. "Perhaps, this is a test in order to guage our resolve. A ruse to see if we react in a mutinous manner" Porsa sat back into her chair and sighed heavily, the worried look upon her face speaking realms whilst Kurrik's own expression remained one of calm, irrespective of the connundrum that was now facing them both. As a Vulcan of course, Kurrik preferred to take the approach dictated by logic, and just because things seemed odd aboard the Garallon right now, it did not necessarily mean that the command team had succumbed to a parasitic take over. But then again... Posra interrupted once again. "And what about that black ship?", she asked, "have you seen or heard of anything like that? I know I haven't" Kurrik quirked his head and exhaled. "It did seem somewhat strange", he answered. "I was manning the Science console on the bridge as you know. Our sensors could not detect a power source. It seemed as though it were following the criteria of a sentient lifeform and yet... It was not alive" "And that... thing at it's controls", said Porsa. "Correct me if I'm wrong Kurrik, but that did not seem too friendly to me" Kurrik nodded again. "The appearance of unfriendliness does not necessarily denote unfriendliness", he answered. "I am concerned though as to the nature of our new arrival", he added, referring now to the 'passenger' they had been re-routed in order to pick up from Amleth three days beforehand. Porsa nodded. "She's a strange one", she answered. "I don't think I've ever seen eyes so cold or a demeanour so disrespectful" "Indeed!, said Kurrick, his hands clasping once again before him, his two fingers touching at his chin once again as Porsa reached for her glass and then took a sip of her fruit juice. "So", she said, "what do we do?", the initial query raising it's head once again. Kurrik pondered that question, and then he offered an answer based, as always, on logic. "We continue to observe and respond according to Starfleet protocol", he said dryly, "we factor in all possibilities that arise from our situation and trust logic to provide the answers" Porsa tutted audibly and sighed once again at Kurriks insistence to logic. "In my experience, life is not logical", she said, "and anyway, sometimes the answers may arise from the most illogical route. If this ship has been compromised, then it's up to us to...un-compromise it", she added. "It may be a test, yes. But do they expect us to react accordingly to the situations or do they expect us to simply follow orders?", she asked. The Vulcan pondered that again, his own thoughts on the matter somewhat skewed right now. It was true that they were in unusual corcumstances, but that in itself did not warrant a challenge to the command structure of the ship. Then again, if something had happened to the command team, then it was their duty to respond. "As I have said. The only path open to us now is to continue to observe until we are certain of the situation that may, or may not be evolving. In essence, prudence and tactful inaction is required at this time", said Kurrik. Porsa shook her head, the uncertainty obviously growing exponentially within her now. "I guess", she answered, although in actual fact, she did not... Norman had of course tried his level best to deliver his findings in a manner that someone not 'au fais' with technical terminology might better understand, but even so, the big Klingon was having trouble. The upshot of it all was that although Kerge understood the logistics of Bates underlying plan, he lacked any understanding beyond the mention of an engineering hypospanner. It was no surprise then that Norman's mention of... 'It means that I am detecting a variation in the atomic differential at the molecular level between two phased offsets of the matter/antimatter flow vessels' ...compounded his lack of understanding even further, and it was that very fact, along with a little research of his own that had illicited the aforementioned grunt. He brought with him, the usual engineering kit and his makeshift probe, just in case the Klingon would be requiring any further tests. He sighed, heavily and then apologised for being late, regardless of the fact that he wasn't. Kerge made a mental note of that and shook his head, this was an area of Normans psyche that he wished to work on one day in regards his assertiveness training, along with the weapons training that he had discussed with him earlier that afternoon of course. "Never mind", said Kerge as Bates approached and then slowed to a stop beside him. "Your earlier calculation spoke of a possible anomoly upstream of the intermix chamber", began Kerge, showing Norman a PADD with the relevant section displayed upon it. Bates looked at the Klingon curiously, and then back down at the PADD as he scratched his head. "Sir?", he asked, clearly wondering where all of this was leading. "This assembly here", said Kerge, tracing a line with his finger on the PADD to indicate an ODN supply conduit to the flux cannons pre-charge assembly. "What happens when there is an atomic variation at the molecular level at this point?", he added, gesturing then with his fingertip at a position upon the screen. Bates took the PADD and then began scrolling around the display accordingly, mummbling to himself as he did so. Kerge simply stood there as the engineer continued on, babbling to himself and tracing out routes before then reaching into his kit and running further calculations by way of his makeshift analyser. "Ah, I see where you are headed now", said Bates suddenly, "if this juncture of the ODN pathway is hit with a fluctuating resonance, however small, then the logic couplings will receive conflicting data resulting in a purge of photonic flux from the pre-charge bypass valve", he exclaimed. "Would it be enough to alert someone of our presense here?", asked Kerge succinctly. Norman quirked his head and then appeared to ponder the suggestion for a few brief moments. "It's possible", he answered, "but we really are talking very small and intermittent amounts that would only be detectable utilising a discretely tuned device that... Oh wait, yes. I see now", said Bates, raising a hand into the airalmost triumphantly. "You think that perhaps our saboteur is using the earlier device we found to transmit phase corrected photonic pulses into space that someone can receive?" "It crossed my mind", said Kerge. Bates looked back to the PADD and began tracing routes once again, then he shook his head. But he was not denying the possibility. "I need a Science officer on this", he snapped, seemingly driven now by the possibility that the flux cannon pre-charge assembly was in some way being used as a means to give their position away! Why had it not dawned on him earlier though? The anomalous readings earlier from matter/anti-matter storage even supported it.. but Norman did not have the equipment available to him to confirm the hypothesis. "Gentlemen. What do you need help with?", came a surprisingly upbeat query from behind as McKenzie, their SO, arrived as requested. Kerge stood up from his crouched position immediately, he was about to offer a reply, but Norman, despite his usual reservation, jumped right in excitedly. "Detection possibilities regarding an off-phase, photonically orientated coded transmission device", he answered. (Reply McKenzie) "Specifically, we think that someone, in this case our saboteur, might be resorting to the modern equivalent of a Morse signal light", said Bates. (Reply McKenzie) Bates handed the Science Officer his data and then explained how there were indications that someone had possibly meddled with the pre-charge assembly of the flux cannon to make it 'flash' like a beacon, whilst at the same time feeling relatively safe in the knowledge that the Spectre crew would be unable to detect it during any routine scans. It went without saying of course that whilst out of phase with normal space, nobody would see the pulses unless they were in some way 'corrected' beforehand so, what they now needed from McKenzie then was the means to detect and analyse any coded transmissions that might still be contained within the flux cannons containment buffer. It was a long shot but, they needed a break... "So", said Bates, "do you have any suggestions?"
