"A ms'kitic maybe?" Jynea asked, brow furrowed. But really, she didn't see how the ancient race of insectoids could have been yanked from their preferred desert climates. Orion bullies loved them for guards and enforcers on desert worlds, but as they refused to serve anywhere else.. probably wasn't. She was probably having a one track mind, why would one be here anyway? She massaged the back of Nathaniel's neck with practiced knowledge. Loosen the muscles, relax the tendons. "Believe me, your screeching and panicking would have not detered it from it's course of action one iota" "Hmm, I guess plan B would have been to shoot it with a phasor till it keeled over." Hmm, by the feel of things, Doc Williams was waiting for swelling to go down before realigning. Like a security officer was going to sit around and wait. However, *she* wasn't a doctor, for all of her physical therapy training, she'd leave the realignment to the doctor in charge. "Best I can do, I'm afraid." Jynea said, letting go of Nathaniel's neck. She was happy to straighten up as *her* back was starting to complain. (Reply Yates, etc) “Good evening Miss Kreung and to you Mr Donaldson. I need a few moments with my patient if you both don’t mind.” Jynea had her second look of startlement in the span of ten minutes. ~What's up his ass?~ Jynea wondered as he greeted and dismissed them with one sentence. ~Miss Kreung?~ she echoed, eyes narrowing in irritation. She realized she was hardly the model Star Fleet officer, but he'd just treated her like some hick civilian off the street. Then it clicked. "Oh yes, my apologies *Lieutenant Commander* Williams. How silly of me to invade *your* sickbay to see one of *my* friends and patients. I'm sure I'm much to silly to be able to read his stats and see he was perfectly able for visitors. *Sorry* for disturbing *your* sickbay." She turned on her heel and stalked out. Once she was good and clear of the doors she muttered "Jackass." It was probable she was referring to the Doctor, but in reality she was muttering at herself for losing her temper like that. Really, she should know better, sickbay was a doctor's territory and every patient in it a baby. But really, what was she supposed to have done? Run up to him on entering, tug on his lab coat and ask, pretty please, for permission to speak to a patient that was perfectly able to receive them? Letting out a sigh, she noticed there was a Chuck with her. Hopefully he hadn't heard her talking to herself, but probably had. ~Great, another person to tell the world the ship's other counsellor is a nutter.~ (Comments/ observations Donaldson, if you have any ;) "Shall we get back down to the planet and get to work?" They weren't going to accomplish much up here. And maybe she'd get to shoot something. (Reply those attacked, abused and left behind ;) (Posted by Lorna) (USS Spectre - Sickbay – CMO Williams - 19:50) "Oh yes, my apologies *Lieutenant Commander* Williams. How silly of me to invade *your* sickbay to see one of *my* friends and patients. I'm sure I'm much to silly to be able to read his stats and see he was perfectly able for visitors. *Sorry* for disturbing *your* sickbay." ~Where the hell did that come from~ As he watched Jynea turn and walk out of sickbay he quickly ran what had just happened through his mind but could not find anything he had said which would have gotten that reaction. ~In front of me on my own not a problem but not in front of patients I’m going to have to have a talk to her but first I have Mr Yates to help~ He turned to Yates. “So Mr Yates how are you now feeling?” He felt himself cringe mentally as he saw the look on Yates face. "Not bad considering", said Yates, "can I go now?" “No” "Ok Doc, you got me", said Yates, "so WHEN, can I go then?" Andrew looked at the data which showed Yates vital signs. “In about an hour. If and I mean if your scans return back to normal. Now is there anything I can get you for the pain?” (reply Yates) (reply Yates, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - SO, Ensign Nathanial Yates - 19:53) To some, the arrival of another crewman at their bedside might have been seen as a blessing, considering the mild domestic that had been brewing between the Morale Officer and the Security man that is. This arrival however was none other than the CMO himself and that usually spelt orders of some kind that normally revolved around, 'don't do this, don't do that' etc etc. As it was, the Doc had surprised him by simply requesting time with his patient and once Kreung and Donaldson had moved aside to allow him to do that, the stern countenance of the erstwhile medic suddenly melted into one of caring once again. “So Mr Yates how are you now feeling?”, he had asked. To Yates that was a stupid question, even if it WAS meant with sincerity. He felt as though an Elephant had just sat upon his head but somehow, he didn't think Doc Williams would appreciate such a distasteful desciptive as that one. "Not bad considering", said Yates, "can I go now?" (Reply Williams) Now that HAD been a stupid question, even if it had been uttered from Yates himself. By his own admission, he felt bad. The Doc of course would have him on his feet within the hour no doubt, but to think that he could have just got up and gone back to work within minutes after such an Elephantine upheaval, was probably about as stupid as it could get. But then again, there were some that would say that Yates's middle name was 'stupid' at times. Either way, it looked like he was going to be here for a little while yet, which was probably just as well. Yates was not a small man of course and not many would have relished the task of picking him up if her were to fall over someplace. "Ok Doc, you got me", said Yates, "so WHEN, can I go then?" (Reply Williams, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - TAC/ASC Charles "Chuck" Donaldson - 19:53) Chuck hadn't managed to get a word in edgewise. ~sexual harassment, babies, necks, massages, doctors ... it's all spinning.~ he thought. It would have been good to clear up the situation with Jynea but Chuck didn't really know her feelings at all so he did the intelligent man's thing ... he kept his big mouth shut and stayed out of trouble! The clash between Jynea and Dr. Williams had spotted an otherwise uneventful trip and Chuck and Jynea had been basically kicked out of sickbay. Chuck sullenly followed the junior counsellor. "Jackass." Jynea muttered. The word brought Chuck out of his fog and directly to attention. She let out a sigh and visibly noticed Chuck's presence. "Shall we get back down to the planet and get to work?" asked Jynea. ~babies, babies, babies, babies, babies.~ Chuck thought about what Nate had said. "bab ... uh ... perhaps we should just wait for the jackass and Nate to be finished. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with him that a salt tablet won't cure." said Chuck trying to recover and sound impressively witty but sadly falling just short of his mark. (reply Kreung IYW) "We probably have enough time for that drink." Chuck pointed out smiling. Now is there anything I can get you for the pain?” Yates just about managed a smile at that one. Did the Doctor mean pain as in physical pain, or was it mental pain? If it was the former then a simply analgesic would suffice. If it were the latter however, then did he mean something to make it go away or did he mean something to bring it back? Yates frowned at the thought of it all, both Donaldson and Kreung meant well by visiting him of course but he had to admit, the mental pain of watching them blame one another for their incongruities had been a definate source of the later type of pain, and consequently if the Doctor kept them away, that would be a great help. Considering Williams' original question though, Yates simply shook his head and simply replied with... "Just let me know when I can leave here, I need to get back down to the planet. There's a certain Orion freighter that I have my eye on" (Reply Williams) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Deck 3 - Ensign Jynea Kreung - 19:55) "bab ... uh ... perhaps we should just wait for the jackass and Nate to be finished. "I'm the jackass, not the doctor." She grumbled, "Or maybe we're both jackasses, they don't exactly hand out club pins." "We probably have enough time for that drink." Chuck pointed out smiling. Jynea snorted amusement, "Oh, yes, that's a good one. 'Sorry Captain T'Vhor, couldn't finish our jobs as we had to go fetch a drink from Ten Forward.' He already thinks worse enough of me, let's not drag you down to my level." She linked her arm through Chuck's companionably and in complete disregard to Starfleet protocol, "C'mon, lets go finish our duties and THEN you can buy me that drink." (Reply Donaldson) "Maybe you just wanted Ushari men to be following me around.. I wonder if synthahol has the same effects on my suppressants as regular alcohol." He had wanted to go in guns blaring and demand to know why she had lost her temper with him in sickbay. But as he walked over to her he realised that a calmer approach was always better. ~There is no point loosing your head in a conversation~ He walked to her. “Hallo Jynea I’m sorry if I am intruding but I wanted to ask if you are you okay. "All that said, are you any good with sensor systems?" Amari listened curiously, "I know the basics of them but not very much. I'm willing to learn anything that's needed however, and on the job training has always been a good way to learn." She smiles, her body language showing a little nervousness. "All right then, go settle in and get some decent food and meet me on the bridge at 1300 hours, you're officially off duty until then," Michael said and stood up. Amari hastily pushed her chair back to stand, nearly knocking it over as she stood up. She mentally cursed her clumsiness, her eyes closing and her face coloring in her embarrassment. "Good to have you aboard, Lieutenant," Michael said with a grin. "Uh, yes Sir. Definitely good to be here, Sir." She nearly ran for the exit before she could further embarrass herself. She leaned against the wall outside the door taking a couple of deep breaths to calm herself and her burning face. ~Good going Ri. ~ She turned towards her quarters to see about that food. (reply any, none) (posted by melinda) (USS Spectre - Quarters - Lt (jg) Amari Riya - 11:45) Amari walked into her quarters to see her cat dart under a bed. "Ptasa!" She called, "You come out now you silly creature!" When her cat was of course not obliging after several moments, Amari walked over to the largest of crates to open it. At the top was bedding, including a hand made quilt that several of the women of the station had worked on. The group was really a gossip circle, but each of them got a lovely bed covering out of nearly year long experience. And it was a wonderful way to relax. She quickly stripped off the Federation issue bedding, replacing it with a lovely set of sheets from Betazed, a soft blanket from Andoria, and finally the quilt from her last station. The next layer was her breakables, which weren't many. A small music box that had been her Mothers, a jewelry box made of hand blown glass given to her by her elder sister. Inside a few pieces of jewelry that were given to her by lovers over the years. She placed both ona shelf, then a photo of her and Myriah. She let a melancholy moment pass thinking of how much she missed Myriah and not just for the sex. Amari reached back into the box, taking out some off duty clothing that lay at the bottom. A few dresses, a couple of skirts. Like most people that had spent any time on Betazed, Amari had a hedonistic side. She loved the feel of skirts against her bare legs, silk, and cotton, the wind blowing them, the feel of the sun on her. She sighed happily as she closed the crate and set it in the hallway for ship's stores to collect. The other two were smaller. One was filled with shawls and throws from Betazed that she tossed over chairs to add tome color. The other held a few prints and paintings also from Betazed. Her religious paraphernalia was also in this box. She wasn't the typical Priestess, but she certainly paid homage to the Mother and the Sisters. She sat on the bed and it was then that her siamese cat, Ptasa, decided to come out and see her. As Amari ran her fingers through the cat's soft fur, she thought about what life would be like here. It would certainly be interesting. (reply none) (posted by Melinda) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward Lounge - Captain T'Vhor and Lt Amari Riya - 11:58) And so he ended up in the Ten Forward lounge....Again. Actually, to be perfectly honest, the Captain rarely found himself here and often preferred to eat in his quarters these days. Today however he had a penchant for some of that brew that the Barkeep had gotten him hooked on many moons prior to this particular orbit of Ushar Prime. What had it been called? Was it even important? Probably not, it displayed a multicoloured hue that had intrigued the Vulcan hybrid from the start, the molecular configuration of it's dancing sparkles matching the zing that it created upon touching the tastebuds. It was quite something, even for a Vulcan. But where was the Barkeep in question? It seemed that today she was not attending the bar, and being one of the Civilian crew, the Captain could not simply request that she be on duty any more than he could do Ensign Kreungs Rabbit. The Barkeep tending bar today would have to do, but it seemed that the drink in question would have to wait. The Captain ordered a typical Vulcan meal of Kreila alongside a bowl of his usual Shur t'Plomik, which he took over to one of the tables nearest the observation windows that looked out upon the planet below. He took one spoonful of the savoury soup and then broke the Kreila into four parts, then he looked out briefly towards the noted constellations of stars just as he always did, his mind drifting inevitably as it always did to his departed Krysta. She of the dancing blue eyes, the other side of his spirit. Lost as he momentarilly was, the Captain hardly heard the female voice beside him and he turned with a start to see her standing there, plate in hand and looking slightly uneased. "The Captain stood up, a gesture of appropriateness of course. "Can I help you Lieutenant?", he asked, noting already the pips denoting her rank and the uniform that showed her to be attached to science. Amari had wandered towards Ten Forward, vaguely knowing where it would be, but no particular goal. As usual the place was filled with people in couples or threes. She wandered to the bar and ordered a simple lunch of soup, sandwich and salad, then saw the one man sitting alone. A vulcan he looked like, and in command red. She hadn't really been briefed on the ship yet, and maybe he would be able to help her fit in a little bit better than she currently did. She made her way over and asked if she could join him. It was when he turned to face her that she realized who he was. And it was all she could do to hold onto her tray and not dump it on her feet. Her face went from tan to slightly green, then to red all in a matter of moments. "C-c-captain." She managed to stammer out in her quite embarrassed voice. She quickly sat the tray down with shaking hands so she didn't spill anything, then picked it back up because it would be highly inapropriate to just invite herself to sit with him, which she'd already done and .... The half Betazoid's mind ran in circles, "I'm sorry to interrupt. " She was vaguely aware that the buzz of conversation had grown fainter and everyone's eyes were on her. Well it felt that way anyhow. "I.. You were alone and I thought...." Her voice trailed off in a squeak and she shut her eyes in mortification. She took a deep breath and stammered on, "If I'd seen your uhmm.. I wouldn't.. I'm so sorry." Amari glanced up with her sea blue matte eyes and prayed that this Captain had a sense of humor and would rescue her from the faux pas she had just landed herself in. If not, her social life on the ship would be nil. She didn't even notice as her tray began to slip out of her trembling hands.... In an instance though, and not without undue recourse to lightning quick Vulcan reflex's, the Captain's hand had deftly stabilized the tray before anything had managed to slide irrevocably floorwards, he then bade the young Lieutenant to take a seat before her bout of the jitters caused any more near accidents. It certainly didn't take a Betazoid stance on things to see that the Science officer was now unduly ill at ease at feeling that she had, how did the Humans say it?... Butted her nose in where it wasn't wanted, which was precisely the opposite of what the Captain would want her to feel. "Please Lieutenant, feel free to enjoy your meal with me if you wish", said the Captain with a less than often seen half smile, courtesy of that Betazoid half of course. She slid next to him and quickly picked up her cup of tea to hide her nerves, watching him from over the rim as she calmed herself. The Captain dabbed a piece of the Kreila into his soup and then took a small bite as the Lieutenant composed herself opposite him and began surveying the contents of her tray, still obviously a little uneasy at the fact that she was now dining with the Captain, who in turn attempted to break the unease by attempting to address her assignment to the Spectre, hoping that this might make her feel a little more relaxed whilst in his company. "A new face", he stated, "I must assume then that you are our newly arrived Science officer arriving from.....", said the Captain pausing now to verify the previously noted facts in his mind before continuing. "....Deep Space 12 I believe", he added. She nods quickly, "Yes, Sir. I'm surprised you would remember honestly." She blushed again, feeling as if she had stuck her foot in it. "Your assignment came as a surprise Lieutenant, fifty second fleet command informed me only today that your arrival was imminent. I am sorry that I didn't welcome you aboard personally", said the Captain. "They told me I was needed and that I'd proven myself. I hated being stuck on a Station. It's so..boring!" She grinned unabashed as she dug into her soup with gusto. She realized how hungry she really was about the time that she realized the man across from her was a half betazoid. The Captain paused and then placed his spoon into the bowl, preferring now to lend an ear to the newly arrived Science officer, his hands clasping together upon the table in front of him as he did so. "So, in your short time aboard, how do you like the Spectre so far Lieutenant?", he asked. "I assure you she has a tale to tell and our missions are far from the ordinary" She continued to eat, glancing up at his questions. She tried something, a twinkling in her eyes. ::Can you hear my thoughts?:: She asked curiously. The moment that the Lieutenant had reached out with her mind, the Captain heard the inner voice of course. It came as a surprise though, the newly arrived officer had seemed so ill at ease, now she was connecting to him at a telepathic level. ::I can hear you Lieutenant, but I find myself now wondering why you might feel telepathic contact is necessary:: said the Captain, pausing only briefly as he continued to eat from his bowl. Her mind held a mental grin for a moment. :: Nothing Sinister. I was raised on betazed and it is easier to communicate this way.:: She paused in the consumption of her salad, :: If it's uncomfortable we can talk aloud, but really it is much easier to be telepathic while eating!:: ::Perhaps, perhaps not. Is there something that you wished to discuss that cannot be said verbally?:: asked the CO. She shakes her head slightly and blushes again, pausing in her eating, "No, Sir. My apologies." "None needed Lieutenant, I was merely wondering why you had resorted to telepathic contact. I am easy with whichever way you wish to talk" "You didn't grow up on Betazed then?" She asks curiously. The Captain shook his head. "No, I spent the majority of my youth an Bajor with my Mother. I joined the resistance in my teens and fought against the Carddassians before finally joining Starfleet" She listens curiously, "All the fighting did not make you ill? Empaths as a general rule do not make very good warriors" The Captain quirked his head slightly to the left at the remark. "I consider my strong grounding in the Vulcan arts an assistance to this", he said, "without this, then I fear that your assessment would indeed be correct" "Oh your half vulcan? That must make things easier. I'm part human." She chewed the salad for a brief moment. "On Betazed you can walk about and rarely hear people speaking." The Captain raised an eyebrow at the remark, normally, the ears gave it away. Perhaps in her moment of extreme unease earlier, she had not noticed the difinitive Vulcan attributes. But then T'Vhor was not your typical Vulcan. She applied herself to her food, letting her pleasure at the well prepared meal drift over to him as she would when with any other Betazoid. The Captain momentarilly closed his eyes in response to the miasma of taste and smell that had just invaded his senses. Now that was an unusual experience and one that he had rarely experienced. This new Lieutenant was going to be an interesting addition to the ship, that much was for sure. She grinned across the table at him, :: It is different being around your own culture.:: She spoke carefully and telepathically so that others might not misunderstand that her words had nothing to do with prejudice or shame, but a feeling of belonging. :: I did not mean to be so frightened. It's been my experience that commanding officers are fearsome creatures. But that was as an Ensign and I believe that he was playing a trick on me for being late to report in.:: She giggled aloud. The Captain smiled that half smile once again and then finished off his meal. "That is not an issue that you will find on this ship Lieutenant, I make it a point of getting to know my crew and treating them as I would wish to be treated myself. Even I was an Ensign once Lieutenant", he said. She grinned, "You are very different than the others I've met then." She glances around and her mind gives off an impression of largeness and being a bit lost, "It will take me some time to find my way about. I hope I can stay. This has been my dream for a while..." Captain T'Vhor then put aside his plate and reached across the table towards the new arrival, his hand extended in a gesture of welcome. "May I take this oportunity to formally welcome you aboard Lieutenant, I am sure you will fit in and I trust that you will enjoy your tour of duty with us" She grins and brushes his fingertips with her own in the handshake of a telepathic society. The impression she gives off is grounded, of the earth, calm, brown and green. She grins a little bit, "It sounds like you need to get back to work?" She asks the question with a quirk of her brow and the impression she wished he could stay to chat. The Captain nodded and then stood. "I think that you are probably right. I have a meeting on the surface shortly but I have enjoyed this chance to talk. Perhaps we will do it again some time. Until then, I bid you farewell" The Captain then headed off towards the door. She hastily stands to bow to him, then sits back down. One of the waiters brings over a hot chocolate sundae, saying it was compliments of the Captain. She laughed a teeny bit as she plucked the cherry from atop the whipped cream and sprinkles. The Captain certainly did understand that betazoid women loved chocolate. Her mind wandered to a study done once, and before she realized it the sundae was gone. "What a shame." She whispered before rising and heading towards the bridge. She had a few minutes before reporting in, and would most likely get lost along the way. ((Reply any, none)) (( Posted by Alan and Melinda <3 )) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward Lounge - SO, Ensign Nathanial Yates - 12:05) Well this was a tad unusual, the CO arriving in Ten Forward and then endulging in chit chat with a newly arrived crewman. Yates had been being his usual jocular self of course, telling jokes to those that were seated with him around the table, whilst the small groups around them continued on in their own private preamble, the Captain and his guest included of course. ".....so, where was I?", said Yates as he briefly brought his glass of Synth to his lips for a quick gulp of the refreshing liquid before continuing on. "I'm in the Docs with this terrible bout of gas, I ask him.... please Doc, have you got anything for persistent wind?" The others look on in pregnant expectation as to what the punchline will be, whilst Yates holds out for a few seconds before delivering it. "He gives me a kite!!!", he exclaims. "Oh man that's terrible", says one of the crewmen with him whilst a few of the others break out into simultaneous laughter at the completion of the already interrupted joke whilst Yates then goes off on another. "I wasn't happy with that at all of course, I'm thinking that a kite won't help me so I asks him about this pain I keep having. I tell him it hurts when I push here on my knee, and it hurts when I push here on my shoulder, and also here on my stomach, in fact it hurts every bloody where. So the Doc examines me......", said Yates before again picking up his glass so as to drink some more of his synthahol. "And?", asks one of the crewman. "Well, he thinks on this for a while, and then he says... I know what's wrong with you, you have a broken finger", said Yates as more laughter ensues, a Vulcan crewman seated at the next table remaining completely unemotional of course. "I still do not understand the relevance of this", said the Vulcan Ensign, "would it not have been beneficial for the Doctor to have given aid for the broken digit, and also to have fully investigated the other sites of pain?", he added quizically. "It's a joke, the guys in pain because it's his finger that's registering the pain, not the sites in question", said Yates. The Vulcan simply shakes his head and then raises an eyebrow unable to sway himself from the logic preventing the joke from working for him. "Perhaps I need to research Human comedy", said the Vulcan, the laughter continuing now at his latest remark. "That you do my friend, that you do", said Yates placing a hand upon the Vulcans shoulder as he did so. "Word has it that Lieutenant Commander Rogers has a good understanding of this, perhaps you should go see him", he added. "I may do that", replied the Vulcan as he stood from the table. "Now however, it is time for me to return to duty" The Vulcan then headed off towards the door leaving Yates to begin yet another of his stupid jokes. (USS Spectre - Coridoor - Ensign Leah Dallas - 12:48) "Damn, damn, damn.... if I don't find this thing before the CO realises it's loose again, Krueng'll kill me for sure", said the by then, manic Ensign Leah Dallas as she scurried about the corridors looking for that seemingly elusive needle in the haystack that was the Spectre. Ordinarilly, it probably wasn't the most important thing in the universe to be doing right now of course, nor was it normally something that would make a Vulcan CO blow his cool, irrespective of the fact that her Friend had ensured her it would do on THIS particular occasion. The needle in question of course stood about a foot high, furry, with a bobbed tail, floppy ears and four impossibly troublesome feet that invariably carried it everywhere it was not meant to ever be. And Dallas had been currently tasked with finding out where that was. "Where are you little.....", she muttered to herself just as she turned a corner to come face to face with a Lieutenant in Science uniform looking about the place as though she to, were looking for something. ~Everybody's looking for something these days~ For a brief moment, Dallas eyed the Lieutenant curiously. Did Kreung have a posse out looking for the Rabbit perhaps? "Your not, err, um.... Looking for a Rabbit are you sir?", asked Dallas. The Lieutenant looked about confused and shrugged, then she responded in the negative. (Reply Riya, IYW) "Oh, I see", said Dallas. "I'm really lost and very new to being on a starship, could you help me find the bridge?", said the Lieutenant. Leah stood up straight from her stooping stance and stretched her back, it seemed she had been stooping for ages looking for that damned Rabbit and stretching back up quickly bought it's own well earned relief. "Any of the turbolifts will take you to the bridge sir, but if you need to find a specific location on a given deck, the computer access pads can help", said Dallas, activating a nearby wall mounted panel to provide a visual accompaniment of this to the Lieutenant. (Reply Riya, IYW) "Computer, display route and location of the arboretum", she enquired. [The Arboretum is located on Deck Six, please follow the blue pulsing indicator] Leah motioned with her hand towards the display with a smile and a quirk of her head. I think the cage would be best." Amari turned back to observe the comm panel with interest. "This was left out of my briefing though I shouldn't seem so surprised. They love to put the new arrivals in interesting positions." She grinned a friendly smile checking out the Ensign. Quite cute. "A pleasure", said Dallas as the two then parted company, each following their requisite paths towards what they sought. "Hey, look me up sometime if you need some company", said Dallas glancing back over her shoulder. Amari grinned back and winked as the turbolift doors closed. That had possibilities, oh yes it did. She hummed happily and compared the Ensign to the good doctor in her head and decided that the young thing she had just left was definitely not oversexed or jaded and it would be fun. George's uniform was drenched with the blood of countless tragic tales ... he wasn't religious but he thanked God anyway it wasn't his own blood. "Approximately three hundred and forty two so far sir, we are assisting as needed and have the full cooperation of the Ushari government in regards the investigation that is already under way as we speak" The Admiral then fell silent, the obvious question lingering upon his lips as to whether the Spectre's mission was now in jeapordy in regards securing Dilithium shipments again. It was clear to him now that it would have seemed harsh to have asked right out but the Admiral could see no other way of broaching the subject. So he asked it anyway. =/\=Do we have a resumation of Dilithium shipment yet?=/\=, he asked. The Captain raised an eyebrow and quirked his head slightly at the seemingly abrupt sidestep of the matter in hand, namely the death of hundreds of Ushari citizens. "Not as yet sir, we ARE close to a solution. The Cardassian involvement is undisputed, Prime Minister Ung'Hst is aware that his own ranks are infiltrated and now trusts no one", said the Captain. "I now firmly believe that the puppeteers are no less than the Obsidian Order itself", he added. Admiral Sorahan nodded, then he began accessing another console out of sight of the monitors field of view. "This can be used in our favour then, after the decimation of the fifty second fleet, we have skant resources of usable ore. Our ships are ready to fly Captain but we lack the fuel to power them", said the Admiral with a sigh. "Make it a priority to regain those supplies, you are cleared to offer the Ushari whatever they require to make this happen.... Sorahan out", said the Admiral. The screen then returned to it's standby state of the Federation logo. Captain T'Vhor settled back into his seat and pondered that last remark. Offer them whatever they want. It was both a bold statement and an illogical one for nobody knew what they would require if given such an obviously very sweet cookie. And what was to stop the Obsidian Order/Cardassians offering them ridiculously more? The Captain tapped at his combadge and called for his FO. "My ready room please Mr O''Connor if you will", he had asked and within seconds, the doors had slid aside to allow entry of the First Officer, whereby the Captain relayed the situation to him, exactly as it had been relayed by the Admiral, warts and all. (Reply O'Conner) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - FO Commander Michael Ian O'Connor - 15:41) Michael walked into the ready room and the Captain quickly relayed the situation to him, exactly as it had been relayed by the Admiral, warts and all. "They're that desperate?" Michael asked, more rhetorically than anything, he'd seen the reports of the fleets status and it wasn't pretty. "With the explosion, I'm not sure it's exactly a good time to talk trade deal, but if the Prime minister is convinced that the Cardassians are pulling one over on them, we may only need to match the current deal with the Ferengi to get them back to our side of the issue," Michael said sitting back in the chair across from the Captain. (Reply T'Vhor) (Posted by Patrick D.) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - Captain T'Vhor - 15:42) "They're that desperate?" The FO's remark was hardly surprising actually, the truth of the matter was that they were indeed. Admiral Sorahan had been quite insistent in his communique, 'Give them what they want' he had said and although the Captain assumed of course that this meant, within reason, he was hardly in a position now to be able to give them anything more than what they actually had. The First Officer had seemed rightly concerned as to the timing right now, there had just been a serious explosion with a considerable casualty count after all and to go down there now and press for negotiations just because an Admiral had ordered it, did seem a tad tactless. Not that the Captain would have ordered such a path of course. "No, we will wait until tomorrow, let the Ushari recompose themselves and then we shall see if they are more, shall we say, forthcoming in regards their mysterious benefactor and the deal they have made with them", said the Captain. (Reply O'Conner, IYW) "Either way, I do not think that Prime Minister Ung'Hst will be viewing either the Ferengi or the Cardassians in a particularly good light after today", said the Captain. (Reply O'Conner, IYW) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Bridge - Captain T'Vhor and TAC/SC Lt Yelena Vasilyovna - 16:10) By the time the First Officer and the Captain had returned to the bridge from their previous discussions, the reports from the surface were still coming in fast and furious, both from the Spectre teams and the Ushari official news broadcasts. The explosion itself had of course been contained, but the fallout from it still meandered from site to site in a steady flow of either living or dead Ushari citizens, being stretchered upon makeshift boards where dedicated medical conveyances were unavailable. The death toll was now at three hundred and sixty two with over a hundred critical or walking wounded, a fact that no doubt had the Spectre's CMO doing his usual miracle work to keep those that could be saved, alive. On the bridge of the Spectre, it seemed that they had their own share of problems also and judging from the TAC/SC's somewhat urgent remark, it was about to get a little more problematic. "Sir, I have an airborne atmospheric contact bearing one nine four mark two", said Vasilyovna as she suddenly turned towards the CO with a somewhat suspicious look in her eye. "I believe that this may be our sensor ghost from earlier sir, it's showing intermittent visibility to our active scans..... I think someone is trying, and failing to initiate a cloak", she added. "It is however, coming straight up at us" The moment the words had been uttered, the Captain was on it, lest they lost the damn thing yet again. "Plot it's course and heading Lieutenant, anticipate it's tragectory as well as your able and prepare to lock phasors", said the Captain as he quickly began firing commands around the bridge and ordered them to red alert. Immediately, the bridge annuniciators began pulsing red to the accompaniment of the alert klaxons whilst all about, the bridge crew responded like a well oiled machine. "Ops, I want all available back up power to the sensors and weapons arrays, I suspect that we WILL be targetted so make sure we keep our strongest aspect to them at all times. (Reply Ops) "Lieutenant Vasilyovna, an update please", said the Captain as the helm began orientating the ship towards the last known positional update of the unknown. "It's entering the upper atmosphere sir, small.... roughly thirty metres in length, possibly a scout of some kind but with a signature I've never seen before", said Vasilyovna as she ran her fingers deftly across her board to verify the data as it arrived, in predictable spurts. "She's just gone hot sir, shields are up, weapons are charging", said Vasilovna. The first resonation of that remark arrived some four seconds later when the ship shook, as four high yield plasma bolts took the port shielding down by incrementing levels, until they sat at seventy eight percent efficiency. For a moment, the Vulcan hybrid CO almost lost his normal calm at the sheer strength of the vessels weapons, his Betazed half had come close to showing that with a "What the hell was that!!"... Needless to say though, the Vulcan half of the Captain remained in control as always as he called for damage reports from all decks. "Our port shielding is down to seventy eight percent sir, all decks report minimal damage, minor casualties", said Vasilyovna. "Do we still have a reliable trajectory?", asked the Captain. Vasilyovna shook her head. "The data is completely unreliable sir, the unknown signature is still faltering and non-descript", said Yelena as she attempted to lock phasors once again. This time she managed to get a good lock and opened fire upon the vessel with pinpoint accuracy. Damage indication however, was unfortunately minimal. Whatever this ship was, it was obviously constructed to survive a lot of punishment. "Ion trail?", said the Captain turning towards the Tactical console. "I'm already on it sir, if we can stop it going to warp we still have a chance", said Vasilyovna as she began retargetting the Spectre's weapons batteries on the now receeding vessel as it left orbit of Ushar Prime and headed out into surrounding space. "Helm, come to an intercept and take your heading from Lieutenant Vasilyovna's console data", said the Captain. (Reply Helm) The Spectre then began it's pursuit of the small ship as it sped away, it's cloak still wildly intermittent in it's operation. "I've got him sir, bearing one seven four mark nine. Bringing the forward quantum launchers online and preparing to fire", said Vasilyovna as the Spectre began closing on the unknown target. "Hold your course Helm, Lieutenant, a full spread of quantum torpedoes on my mark, allow for trajectory change and plot a likely evasive pattern given the parameters already observed", said the Captain as he waited for the optimal distance for reliable target lock. At that point in time, the eyes of the entire bridge crew were now upon the viewscreen as they watched the small vessel come into view, disappear and then come into view again repeatedly as it's pilot attempted to bring his cloak into play again. Vasilyovna had already plotted a solution of course and was ready to fire but the lock was still unreliable. It was now or never and both she, and indeed the Captain knew it. Vasilyovna turned to the CO, a look of urgency in her face now as the chase continued. "Sir, the lock is still unreliable. I suggest we fire now and hope for the best", said the Tactical Chief. T'Vhor frowned just a little, he knew the Lieutenant was right of course but this vessel held clues that they needed, he wanted to bring it down or badly damage it, not destroy it. "Range to target?", he enquired. "Forty thousand k and closing sir", came the reply. The Captain then waited just a few more moments, then he gave the order. "Fire weapons" Vasilyovna's finger had been poised a long time ago and the milimetre or so it took to send the Quantums flying was barely noticable to any around her. The resultant explosions ahead of them brought the small craft to an abrupt decelerative turn as it sped off at a tangent to it's original course heading and then disappeared from the Spectre's sensors once and for all. For a moment, the entire bridge felt that they must have destroyed the ship for it was no longer anywhere to be seen, either by eyes or sensors. "Did we get it?", said a voice from behind. The Captain raised an eyebrow quizically and turned towards Vasilyovna. "I'm not detecting any debris sir", said Vasilyovna, "no wreckage means no destruction" The Captain returned his gaze to the viewscreen and pursed his lips tightly. "I would think not Ensign", he said to the voice that had asked the question beforehand. "I would assume that we may have damaged her but it would seem that she has been able to fully cloak despite our best efforts", he added. "Continue to search for any signs Lieutenant, Helm, take us close to the nearby moons and planetoids for surface scans. If it's been damaged, it may have gone down onto any of them for repairs", said the Captain. (Reply Helm, Any) (Posted by Alan) (UShar Prime - Security Monitoring - TAC/ASC Charles "Chuck" Donaldson - 16:10) Chuck and Goldsteen had been running tricorder scans for a few minutes before Goldsteen had suggested bouncing the tricorder signal off of the weather control station. Despite bringing all of their considerable sensors to bear upon the area in question, the small but devastating vessel had continued to elude them. There had been a definate and marked deviation in the ships course after the Quantums had detonated, signalling that she had indeed been damaged, and yet it seemed that the damage was not so bad as to have rendered the unusual cloak inoperable. There was now no trace of the ship anywhere, no wreckage, nothing... Sitting down in the command chair, the Captain began assessing the data they had collected from the encounter and then after considering all eventualities, he resolved to return the Spectre to orbit of Ushar Prime. It was, after all, all that they could now do other than log the event. "Helm, take us back to Ushar Prime, full impulse", ordered the Captain as he began a log entry via his armrest console. (Reply Helm, IYW, Any) "Captain's supplemental log, Stardate 2408.02.04. 16.32 hundred hours.", said the Captain, begining the log entry as the computer registered the command with it's usual succinct response. "Whilst dealing with the casualties on Ushar Prime after the explosion that recently occurred, we encountered a small vessel climbing to high orbit in an aggressive posture. Her shields were raised but it appeared that she was having some difficulty engaging her cloaking device. It appeared that this vessel might be our 'Sensor Ghost', from earlier" "The Spectre was taken to red alert and the unknown duly targetted. The vessel fired it's weapons, impacting our shielding with an inordinate and devastating force whilst Lieutenant Vasilyovna returned fire gaining direct hits, all registering minimal damage. We pursued the vessel out of the system, but after subsequently registering four direct hits with a noted deviation in the vessels course, we were unable to locate any wreckage or indeed, any sign of the ship in question" "I have thus ordered the ship back to Ushar Prime to continue coordinating medivac operations from orbit. End log, append to existing" [Confirmed log entry, appending to existing] The Captain then returned his gaze to the viewscreen and to the now familiar view of Ushar Prime itself as it slowly begin to fill it's lower portion. She then looked at the woman hoping to hell she had a clue what to do with these sensors. Amari was a botanist not an engineer. "We-ell. Cloaking Fields give off those particle things don't they? And those particles react to something? And why would the cloaking field be flickering on and off anyways? That implies that it's not calibrated properly or that it's of a poor design." (reply Morrissey, O'Connor) (posted by Melinda :-) (USS Spectre - Bridge - Captain T'Vhor - 16:52) By now, they had re-established direct liason with the Ushar government in regards the medivac that was still under way on the surface. Reports had come in that patients were needing to beam aboard for urgent medical attention that could not be administered quickly enough planetside, the authorisation had duly been given of course and the First officer was now busy with a Lieutenant and an Ensign in regards the ship they had just chased, and subsequently lost. "We-ell. Cloaking Fields give off those particle things don't they? And those particles react to something? And why would the cloaking field be flickering on and off anyways? That implies that it's not calibrated properly or that it's of a poor design.", the Lieutenant had said. The Captain's head quirked to the right as they spoke whilst he himself continued to engage in command chair specifics. He was quite aware of course that the newly arrived Science officer seemed somewhat, ill at ease upon her arrival and recalled her awkward manner in Ten forward earlier. Perhaps it was simply the change of pace from being based on a station to being based on an operational starship in the field. Perhaps it was just her manner. It mattered little of course, she was like many a new arrival and would soon find her bearings, they invariably did. What was it the Humans often said? 'To find their sea legs?' Following on from her previous remark to the FO though, the Captain offered another angle on their problem of the punchy little vessels disappearance. "Or that it is malfunctioning Lieutenant Riya", stated the Captain interrupting their conversation. "The particles you refer to are, as you are no doubt aware, Tachyon's and you are correct in your assumption that they are normally traceable utilising a suitable grided network. However, this vessel utilises a cloak unlike any we have seen before, the fact that it may indeed be damaged though could quite logically put it in the vicinity of the surface explosion", he added as he stood and then moved purposefully to Science one. (Reply Any, IYW) "I suspect that this ship will continue to evade us for the time, we should concentrate, as Commander O'Conner suggests on attempting to correlate the data we have already so that we may be ready for it the next time it might appear", said the Captain, leaning forwards now to operate the console before him. "I would suggest that we begin here", he said motioning to the display, "the one constant variable that we can always detect. It's Ion trail", he added. Amari leaned in, her arm brushing the Captains. She only knew the bare basics about ion trails and how they were formed. And she knew even less about cloaking devices. She studied the reading, chewing on her lip as her insecurity leaked out empathically. She did however know scientific procedures. "What if the supposition is wrong that the drive is damaged? Didn't primitive cloaking devices have a length of time they could operate without burning out components." Amari pulled up a schematic of an early prototype cloaking device to see if it might provide any clues. "And you're right Lieutenant, one of his components is burning out, it's aging at a super rapid rate due to the chroniton build up. I bet you they never planned on being cloaked for so long." The Captain quirked his head and thought for a brief moment. Her logic was correct of course, but as yet unsubstantiated. There was still also the possibility that the vessel had been damaged in some way by it's vicinity to the blast itself, something the occupant had perhaps not foreseen. If the cloaks components themselves were burning out from use, then it would logically follow that this would not be the first time it had malfuntioned. And besides, the Captain had a feeling about this ship. It was almost too perfected, almost as though designed as a covert special forces vessel acting on the wrong side of the law. ~Could this be one of the Venom project's throwbacks~ The Captain nodded accordingly and gave order to proceed. " Amari was still studying the screen. If the ship were a plant, and part of the plant were dying what would she do? She was trying to put this into a frame of reference that she understood. "Is there any way for the deflector dish to accelerate the deterioration? " Amari vaguely remembered something like that from her academy class. Bringing the small ship safely down however, was more of a wrestle than anything else, the controls fighting against the turbulence of the lower atmosphere as it effectively 'rode' the wave in until the struts lowered and it's pilot brought the ship to a hovering standstill before finally touching down on a somewhat uneven, waterlogged surface. It was already dark here, the Usharian moon having a disproportionate rotational orbit against the prime star of the Ushar system itself. In consequence to that fact, darkness along with the predictably rapid shifts in climate had fallen rapidly and soon, probably in less that six hours even, the light of day would be shining once again upon the small craft that surprisingly still continued to hide behind it's partially functioning cloak. It had been with some degree of difficulty that the black clad being had emerged and passed through the field intact and unphased, before then limping slowly away from the vessel to perch himself upon a nearby rock. He then began to assess his own damage more fully, via the built in diagnostics that he possessed as part of his much altered anatomy. It was quite obvious by now though that despite the bogus telemetry that had been fed to the pursueing Federation vessel, the ship itself had been badly damaged and it's occupant was clearly in some state of malfunction also if the limp and subsequent diagnostics had been anything to go by. At first, the audible receptors in Venom's neural matrix had been confused by the fact that the organic feedback system had gone suddenly offline. It WAS inordinately quiet though, and apart from the intermittent register of a mechanical whirring coming from a damaged servo in his upper right thigh, not a bird nor creature could be heard by him in this most desolate of places. The place could indeed be likened to hell itself and Venom, being the cold blooded automaton that he seemingly was, fitted in just perfectly albeit his present state of incapacity. With the matter of the prior pursuit foremost in his mind, if he did indeed have a mind that is, he briefly turned his gaze skywards to peer through the methane clouds that had only just dissipated far above him. No moving star now at all, for the Spectre had by that time broken off it's search pattern and had returned to Ushar Prime, decidedly empty handed. It was just as well, Nine was an elite member of the Venom project and he wasn't at all used to being shot at with precision, let alone forced to land in order to effect repairs to his ship. On this particular occasion though, the Spectre crew would not be claiming their laurels for that particular outcome, some of the blame layed with the idiot that had detonated before Venom's ship was out of the actual blast zone, whilst it had hovered cloaked above the government buildings themselves! All of it was irrelavent now anyway, damage repairs would take a few hours at most. As for the damaged limb, well, that might take a little longer to fully repair but it could be cobbled for now nonetheless and by then, the cold, cyber-organic Nine would be on his way once again. It was the strangest thing though, whilst he worked diligently upon both his limb and then the damaged parts of his vessel, if anything had been nearby and able to listen, Venom could actually be heard to hum a tune of sorts. It somewhat betrayed the fact that somewhere amidst all that he now was, there might be a remnant of humanity buried deep. But then again.... Perhaps not.
