Roann commented. "I just need to know when I should start my duty shift." "Alpha shift starts tomorrow at 0800, if you'll be ready. While we're still in orbit, work with Ops." Michael said. "I am ready." Roann stated. "Good, then, is there anything else?" Michael asked. "Sir, for the record, I do not have the wrong motivation. I weighted my options very carefully before I choose to join. Starfleet was my choice." Roann tried to choose her words wisely. "Find me in twenty years and tell me that again. I'll buy you a drink and tell you if I made the right choice myself," Michael said with a chuckle, he wasn't sure he'd ever have the certainty of the Ensign in front of him. "Have you found your quarters yet?" "Though I am familiar with the ship, Schematics leave much to the imagination. I would like a tour of the Spectre?" Roann asked. ~~Well, she's got guts, not sure I would have asked Captain Straton for a tour my first day...or ever.~~ Michael thought "Why not, Ensign," Michael said standing up. "Where would you like to see first?" (Reply Morgan) (Posted by Patrick D.) (USS Spectre - Holodeck - Ensign Douglas Bovitzky, ACE - 20:02) Bovitzky was flipping through medical data He got from medical department. He saw that there is a lot of debris in bodies of victims but not much metal, it was obvious proof that most of explosives were put as a smoke screen around something that happened near or inside 15 meter diameter area about 3/4 of length of east wing. There were placed two of the explosives, other 5 was randomly scattered around building, greater damage could be done in when placing explosives near or in gathering chamber, or placed at structural nodes of construction. Next was explosive material, not energy based but chemical based, for it's volume not much damage, but a lot of mess, hard to find if You don't know what You're looking for, also hard to operate without training. Very good for making injuries but if You want to kill somebody he must be almost standing on it, and it wasn't classical "pipe bombs", but only explosives. Fragments found in bodies are from building itself, nothing indicates additional "equipment" . All evidence indicates that explosion was intended to look as work of semi-amateur, but two explosions placed in so close area shows that main target of attack was located in marked area. ~ That would be enough ~ Doug thought Bovitzky prepared report for FO, including presentation of evidence, His theories about triggering mechanism, probable target basing on information he got. (reply O'Connor ) (posted by Maciej S) (USS Spectre - Security Chiefs Office - STI Agent - Lt. Commander Brian Rogers - 20:09) Rogers sat down in the seat opposite from the TAC/SEC and cocked his head as she continued. "Classified mission? From the Captain himself?" she asked. "Yes, quite," Rogers said. He stood up from the chair and headed to the replicator. He quickly replicated himself a cup of coffee and sipped while Vasilyovna continued. "I'm not in the habit of being kept in the dark Mr Rogers. Why wasn't I informed of this?" Rogers shrugged and returned to his seat. He craddled his cup. "Ask the captain," he retorted. "So....explosive type? Any idea at all, or is that classified too? "I don't know what kind of explosive it was. I was too close to the blast to properly observe it and I didn't have my tricorder out at the time." "So, there were a lot of casualties down there....in fact Brian, it was a relative bloodbath, wouldn't you agree?", she asked. "Yeah, there were some serious amount injured or killed" said Rogers. There was a slight pause in the conversation as Rogers drank his coffee and Vasilyovna took several long breaths. "Brian, you and I are on the same side Da?", she asked. "We're wearing the same Starfleet shield, aren't we?" Rogers said with a grin, tapping his comm badge with one hand while the other cupped his coffee. "And it's feasable to say that we both have the same outcome in mind, namely that we nail the SOB's responsible for this quite unacceptable carnage in as short a time as we are able, given ALL of the available data?", she asked. "Sure," Rogers gave her that much. "Then Mr Rogers, I implore you, give me something new", said Vasilyovna. "You know, Lt. Vasilyovna, I've just been looking at dead and dismembered bodies for the past few hours, I really don't have the energy to argue this with you, I don't know that much about what just happened," he replied. (reply Vasilyovna) "But, I'll give you this much. The Captain had a hint about some undesirables possibly working in the Ushari Government. He asked me to look for hidden communications going in and out of the Ushari government building," he replied. "And thats all I'll give you," the STI agent offered. (reply Vasilyovna, any) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre - Security Chief's Office - TAC/SC Lt Yelena Vasilyovna - 20:11) The SFI agent had been being his usual, stick in the mud self in his dealings with Security, it was the damndest thing, ever since the man had returned from his stint with the spooks he'd been both obstructive and even more arrogant than he had been beforehand when he'd been a part of the Spectre's command team. Even now he was giving little away..... "Then Mr Rogers, I implore you, give me something new", Vasilyovna had asked, knowing already of course that it would probably draw a blank regardless. "You know, Lt. Vasilyovna, I've just been looking at dead and dismembered bodies for the past few hours, I really don't have the energy to argue this with you, I don't know that much about what just happened" Rogers had replied. Yelena sighed, there it was.... the blank, this was going nowhere fast. She had actually been about to give him something along the lines of an 'Oh really', when the man suddenly went off again with one of his little snippets of info. "But, I'll give you this much", he had started, instantly piqueing the Security chiefs attention in the hope that it might just be something usable for once after all. "The Captain had a hint about some undesirables possibly working in the Ushari Government. He asked me to look for hidden communications going in and out of the Ushari government building" he added. "And thats all I'll give you".... "So you think I'm a donkey now uh, wave the stick and carrot and keep it just out of my grasp", said Vasilyovna with a huff. "You SFI types are all the same, anybody would think you were still living in the old cold war years of the late twentieth century" (Reply Rogers) "Never mind Mr Rogers, it would seem that you have very little usable information to impart anyway.... if what you have been saying is true that is", said the Chief. (Reply Rogers, IYW) The Security chief stood and then headed for the door whilst Rogers followed suit. "Well I'll be sure to keep you up to date on all things security wise Lieutenant Commander", said Yelena, "after all as I said previously, we ARE working for the same team here", she added with just a hint of sarcasm in her voice. Rogers stood up and followed her to the door. "That's what I've been trying to tell you, Lieutenant. I'm afraid I'm just as much out of the loop on this one as you are," Rogers offered. "Well I'll be sure to keep you up to date on all things security wise Lieutenant Commander. After all as I said previously, we ARE working for the same team here," the TAC/SEC said scarcasically. "Very good, Lieutenant, I look forward to reading the daily security reports about how many drunken Marines were towed away to the brig," Rogers mocked before softly patting the Russian on the back. "To use a Human expression..... A penny for them Lieutenant?", said the Captain inquisitively. Michaella lounged on the grass eating a cranberry muffin, "Oh, just thinking that with a few more flowers, that I could see this as Betazed. I don't go on planets very often. I'm clinically an albino, so the sun and I don't usually get along very well. A life in space, in a controlled environment was almost a requirement with my particular disorder." She fingered one of her long black curls with a slight smirk, remembering when she had silver hair instead. "You seem pensive, your recent transfer is certainly an oddity, as is the fact that I was not made aware that you had done anything 'wrong' to warrant your needing to hide. Would you care to elaborate upon that?", said the Captain. She frowns, "SFI likes to keep such things under wraps I think. What would you like to know?" She lays back in the grass, the remnants of her muffin forgotten on a napkin beside her. The Captain quirked his head slightly and then answered. "I think everything", he said, "beginning from when you 'upset' whomsoever it was that you feel you may have upset" Michaella remained quiet for several moments in thought as the Captain continued to talk. "The mention of SFI in all of this does not instil me with confidence", said the Captain, "if they felt it necessary to re-site you for your own safety, then the consequences of their acts are indeed pertinent", he added, wondering as he spoke, whether or not Rogers might know of any of this. Michaella sighed quietly and tucked her hands under her head. "We were stationed on on Starbase 212. As you know there are a lot of transients on that station and one of the stations chief industries is diagnosing and treating medical conditions. I couldn't count the number of babies that I delivered." She took a very deep breath before continuing. "This man kept coming through and he would always stop in to say hello, and bring me a souvenir or something nice. He was into some less than legal things. I didn't find that out until I'd been out with him twice on his ventures. He was always careful to hide it from me. By then I was an accessory." She waited for the obvious question of 'but you are a telepath how did you know' and when it didn't come she decided to answer it anyway, "He was a half betazoid. Enough empathy to join minds when lovemaking, but not enough to be useful, and it's impolite to snoop. Outside of that moment of abandon he had better shields than some of the full blooded betazoids that work with the too talenteds." She didn't elaborate on that. Most betazoids knew of the unfortunants, those who had no control or where born with their powers on. Many were insane, and they were cared for and treated as precious. It could happen to anyone. "I stumbled across some papers as I was cleaning up his quarters. He threatened me, said he would kill my children if I said anything. I went to SFI where I was told that he was already under investigation. My options were arrest and time in a penal colony for aiding a criminal or to help them." She looked up at the artificial sky then so that the Captain wouldn't see the hurt in her eyes. "What choice did I have? I did as they wanted. His ring was busted, and it wasn't just drugs. It was smuggling technogy and slavery and .. other things." The fact that she wouldn't elaborate told the entire story. "SFI said we were safe on 212, then a bomb went off in my office. I was with a patient but they relocated us to Geneva. Then there was a rumor we were found, so I was handed a commission and sent out on a starship to... tend the ill. It was a war, we needed the best doctors there were. And the rumor was my...friend..was on Donuts..ergh Doenitz's side..." She laughed a little as her daughter's name for the bad man snuck in, "And then I was ordered away from the Hades. I"m not sure why. I was hoping you knew. And why I was demoted. I'm guessing the demotion came because the war ended...you don't need as many doctors and you can afford to treat them worse." Her you implied the fleet in general. "And it isn't as if I have a choice. I made a mistake once by falling in love. It's not something that I intend to repeat" The Captain had listened intently throughout, all of this certainly showed another side to the newly arrived medic whatever reasons had brought her here but....so much pain inside. The Vulcan hybrid had felt it within her regardless of her obvious attempts to hide it, the mention of love being a mistake however had resonated somewhat within him. Could love ever be a mistake? Perhaps, perhaps not. The Captain's mind wondered briefly to Krysta of course, accompanied as it was by a quiet pause as he considered the matter. "Perhaps... a logical decision", said T'Vhor in regards Kirien's choice never to repeat such a course again, not all love led such a blind path though, perhaps she had just followed where she should not have, or that it was just meant to be so. "On Vulcan...", said the Captain, after pondering both his own and Kiriens words, "....we value the concept of the IDIC, a representation of a belief that beauty, growth, and progress all result from the union of the unlike. Concord, as much as discord, requires the presence of at least two differing notes. Like and unlike are of equal importance and perhaps necessary for a required outcome", he added. "It would be illogical to dismiss the possibility of love again purely on one bad experience", said the Captain. Michaella kept her mouth shut on that subject, but then decided that he might as well know, "It was two. The first was the father of my girls, John Wilson. The former FO of Geneva before he stupidly managed to get himself killed." Michaella grimaced. It was all in her file, someplace. She still blamed John. His death had affected her daughter Elizabeth quite hard. The Captain nodded in agreeance and then pondered the matter of Kiriens aforementioned rank reduction. "It is possible that the reduction of your rank may have simply been a ruse to deter, a misnomer designed to cast doubt as to your identity", said the Captain, "I am sure that if you required it, I could....speak to fleet command on this matter, perhaps reinstate your previous rank at a later date", he added. Michaella laughed and shook her head slightly, "Rank doesn't have any bearing on my work, does it? I'm more concerned about my children and the amenities they will have access to than what degree of Sir someone decides to call me. And honestly, I never really liked the idea I might have to you know, command. The only things I'm fond of commanding are my daughters and my patients and some test tubes. Tell me, Captain-Sir..." And the mental inflection she put on the words indicated that she meant them as a joke, "What's the medical staff like here?" The Captain raised an eyebrow at that, was she serious? "How long have you been on board Lieutenant? I would have assumed that one of the first things you would have done upon your arrival would have been to fully check out the medical department", said the Captain. "Was that not the case?", he added as he reached to the basket to select another of the rather delicious muffins from within it. Michaella shook her head, "About 9 hours?" She made this a question. "I tried to report in to you yestereve, but you had already retired and then there was settling my children in and all of us are time lagged - it's almost evening now where we came from. It always takes a few days to adjust." She laughed. "I can't wait to meet them. Everyone's different, no matter what ship you are on." "The Doctor will be able to help you more fully in that I would imagine, he will introduce you to the key staff if you have yet to meet them, plus, I'm sure that you and he as medical officers, will have much to discuss over the next few days", said the Captain as he savoured the delicacy he had chosen and tried his level best not to drop the seemingly ever present crumbs all over himself. Michaella snuck a glance over at the Captain as he enjoyed another muffin and stifled a giggle, "They are good aren't they? Not as good as if I had baked them myself but still very good." She looked up at the canopy of leaves, "I wonder who is after me, if anyone." The Captain quirked his head and looked skywards at the point she was staring at. "A bird perhaps Lieutenant?", he quizzed, a statement that had almost constituted a joke, hardly something a Vulcan would have come out with, but then, the Captain did have a Betazoid half too. Kirien nodded and then picked another of the delicious muffins and bit slowly into it, making an equal amount of crumbs in the process as she did so. It was getting late and neither the Captain, nor the Lieutenant had slept much, perhaps it was time now to finish this little picnic and finally attempt to at least try and get some rest. (Reply None, Any) (Posted by Alan and Melinda) (USS Spectre - FO's office - FO Commander Michael Ian O'Connor - 7:02) Michael's door chime rang at 0700 hours precisely, punctual was not something Michael associated with Charles Donaldson, for better or worse, but apparently, Chuck was taking his added responsibility more seriously of late. Michael let the man in, and waved him to a seat. "Thank you for seeing me, Commander." Chuck said taking a seat. "It's what I'm here for, not that I'm sure there isn't a good reason, but why are you coming to me instead of your department head with whatever you're about to come to me with?" Michael asked, picking up a mug of some extremely strong coffee that bore more resemblance to caffeinated oil that an actual beverage. "Lieutenant Vasilyovna is my direct superior but I didn't want to interrupt her sleep time when I could just go directly to you. You get all the security reports anyway." said Chuck. "I do, but generally not in person. Still, as you say, best not to wake a sleeping Russian. What's the report?" Michael asked. The fact that Chuck had scheduled a meeting instead of waking people up meant it wasn't all that important. "A Cadet who was on standard patrol when he lost his tricorder. He contacted me and I helped him find it. It's really a pretty small thing but if I didn't report it someone might think the discrepancy looked suspicious." "You were right not to wake Vasilyovna, she would have shot you. That report barely qualifies for a disciplinary note, and most people wouldn't even bother to write it up. Why did you come to me in person for this?" Michael asked, knowing full well that it wasn't the only reason the man was sitting in front of him. "I could have made my report by commbadge but I wanted to keep it private ... and there's something else ..." began Chuck. "I'm all ears, Lieutenant." Michael said sipping his coffee and leaning back in his chair. "Since I lost my wife I've held on to the hope of finding her." Chuck explained, "I'm wanting to get to know a certain Junior Counselor. Do you see my multi-dimensional dilemma? I don't want to discuss the matter with another counselor and I'm pondering the triangle difficulty if my wife ever returns." Michael knew about Donaldson's wife, it was in his file. Michael sipped his coffee, thinking, then spoke. "Chuck, how long has your wife been missing?" (Reply Donaldson) "No one questions that you love her, but ask yourself one question, what would she want for you." Michael asked. Feel free to fix it in the compile if needed <3 RPG: It had been a long morning already. Michaella had finally gotten her daughters enrolled in the small shipboard school. Somehow their records hadn't arrived. Not that this was unusual when one moved about a lot in the Fleet but it was still annoying as the stuffy Matron who oversaw the small school ~insisted~ that the girls go through the testing that they had already been through once. Ella had taken it in stride, but Beth's eyes had flared dangerously at what she considered a waste of time. Michaella agreed with her fiery daughter, but now wasn't the time for her temper to flare so dramatically. Beth's temper was one of the things that the girl needed to work on in order to be a good fleet officer. Michaella had to grin as Ella subconsciousy soothed her sister as she had many times in the past. The girls wouldn't be together their entire life and probability was they definately wouldn't be if they both were accepted into Fleet and stationed. Fleet had a tendency to split up siblings. It was with a headache forming in the back of her head from the lack of sleep and two teenaged daughters that she went to meet her immediate superior. Michaella was dressed in the typical uniform, adding the optional labcoat with many useful pockets that many medical professionals wore. Her concession to her heritage was a bright cloth sash she wore around her waist. The sash had many purposes, but one of it's biggest when she was on the Nimitz had been to distract a child. The silk seemed to shimmer when it was moved under the light, and it was great to dry the inevitable tears from the imagined fears. In her pocket, Michaella had a small chip that contained her 'goodies' - small sweets, and a large collection of stuffed animals that could be easily replicated for the most scared children. There weren't many children on the Spectre she knew, but she was prepared. As she waited to be invited into his office, Michaella smiled genuinely. It was good to be back to work and useful again. Here she was in her element. It was mainly that he tried to have open door policy and rather liked people coming to him with their problems whenever they needed. As the door opened he saw Kirien standing in the door way. He put the PADD down on the table and stood up with a smile. “Ah Dr Kirien. The Rupert’s are having a get together, Think we can crash it, bring a few beers and look at the local talent.” (reply Rameriz O'Hara) (reply Rameriz O'Hara, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Marine quarters - Cpl, Lewis O'Hara - 12:08) Lewis had been busy, far busier in fact than he'd been in a long time it would seem. The MXO had come by only two hours beforehand and had begun an impromptu inspection of all of their kit and predictably, most of it had been below regulation standard, in consequence, the entire billet had been ordered to rectify the problem forthwith or be brought up on charges. The later seemed a more preferable outcome to the former. O'Hara had only just spat a small amount of saliva onto his right boot to begin a hasty polishing when Houseman, seemingly busy himself with his monitoring of the Spectre internal coms system, suddenly announced a party. "Hey look at this. The Rupert’s are having a get together, Think we can crash it, bring a few beers and look at the local talent", he had hollered. Well, it had to be better than polishing boots, checking each item of kit and stripping down his III-C for the unpteenth time. "I'm up for it", said Lewis, finally releasing the spitload onto the toecap of his boot and beginning the polishing. "Take heed of what the MXO said though, seems that we really need to keep our heads and high jinx low for the time being and I for one don't relish either Kowalski, Krige or Khran breathing down my neck right now", he added as he began buffing the boot to perfection. (Reply Houseman) O'Hara nodded, the 'local talent' as House had put it would be a most welcome diversion, he had actually had his eye on a particularly cute Ensign for quite some time now but had lacked the oportunity or the inclination to approach her. Perhaps she would be at this party? Lewis smiled and allowed his thoughts to drift, then he continued on with the polishing of his boots. If nothing else, the Ensign might appreciate the shine on them, even if his face didn't fit her idea of 'interesting'... (Reply Houseman, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Marine quarters - Corporal Houseman - 12:10) "I'm up for it", "Take heed of what the MXO said though, seems that we really need to keep our heads and high jinx low for the time being and I for one don't relish either Kowalski, Krige or Khran breathing down my neck right now", Houseman nodded. "Yeah me neither." Houseman dropped the PADD back onto his bed and turned to his TR116 rifle which lay in pieces beside him. "Well mate we better get ourselves sorted so we can get away unnoticed." He picked up the barrel and stared down its length to make sure that there was nothing stuck down it. (reply O'Hara, IYW) O'Hara had been right Kowalski, Krige or Khran were ready to jump on them big time if they got the chance. Especially about what had been said when the inspection had been made. He put down the rifle and began hand loading the rifle rounds giving each one a good polish as he did so. I would be a shame to miss the party coz the Rupert's got upperty and confined them to quarters. (Reply O'Hara, Any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Marine quarters - Cpl, Lewis O'Hara - 12:12) Lewis shook his head in the negative, despite the MXO's warning Houseman still seemed intent on crashing the party, as opposed to arriving in a fitting and gentlemanly manner. His very mention of them turning up 'unnoticed' as he had put it rang alarm bells in O'Hara's head, that and the fact that Kowalski had already had a number of their squad up on charges for various misdemeanors convinced him that this was not the way that O'Hara wanted to be going at all. "No way man, if we go we go as though we ARE invited", he said, "I'm sure that we can come up with some way of making it look as though we're actually welcome..... without resorting to anything untoward I mean", he added as an after thought. (Reply Houseman, Any) "Where did the communique come from anyway?", asked Lewis leaning across his bunk now towards House as he proceeded to rebuild his rifle for the third time in less than half an hour. (Reply Houseman) That did'nt surprise him in the least, it seemed that whoever it had been had covered their tracks well, but who on the Spectre had the kind of knowledge to circumvent Marine tactical surveillence equipment? And more importantly, why under such circumstances as these? It was a puzzle, but one that was irrelevant now anyway. "We'll just turn up, be on our best behaviour and hope for the best, no subterfuge, we'll say that we heard about it all through the grapevine. On a ship this small it would'nt be that difficult to keep something quiet for long anyway", said Lewis with a grin. "Especially not a party" (Reply Houseman, Any) O'Hara paused mid thought, his mind wandering briefly to the time they had precision raided Councellor Taxia's office and stolen his coveted wine collection many moons beforehand. "Shall we take a card and a box of chocolates?", he asked.... The last thing we need is to upset the Rupert’s.” "Where did the communique come from anyway?" ”Kowalski. I was able to piggy back the message from his inbox but I have no idea about who sent it.” Houseman put down his completed rifle and picked up the scope. "We'll just turn up, be on our best behaviour and hope for the best, no subterfuge, we'll say that we heard about it all through the grapevine. On a ship this small it would'nt be that difficult to keep something quiet for long anyway", "Especially not a party" Houseman nodded as he looked through the scope checking its clarity. ”That sounds reasonable and definatly less dangerous then crashing the party.” "Shall we take a card and a box of chocolates?" “Not sure about the card but definatly the chocolates.” He gave a big grin thinking of the women that would be at the party. “Everyone likes chocolates.” (Reply O’Hara, Any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Holodeck 2 - CEO, Lieutenant H'Chir - 12:25) === TO: Senior Staff From: **** SUBJ: Get Together I would just like to remind everyone that this evening, at 2000 in holodeck 2, there will be an informal get together. With one thing and another the Spectre didn't have the best track record when it came to surprise guests and mystery gifts. Somewhere at the back of his mind a story about a woman who exploded a lot, a genie and a red box - or was it a bag? - grew restless as he tried to move on. In any case there was still far too much to be done around Engineering for him to begin hypothesising about the evening's entertainments just yet. Thruster five was still off-line whilst its innards were completely replaced from ship's stores. Initial diagnostics hadn't yielded the cause of the problem, so H'Chir had resorted to the tried and tested method of replacing the entire unit and then testing each individual component. It wasn't a critical system and they were in no immediate danger, it ought to keep a couple of his staff out his way for a while. He secured the doors behind him and looked about the gridded room. "Computer, activate program O'Connor Alpha 2," Michael said, his arms crossed across his chest. The room shimmered, and then resolved around him. Suddenly he found himself standing in the middle of an open forest. Ancient trees towered above him, casting shadows across the forest floor in ever changing patterns. The forest floor was generally clear of undergrowth, and the trees were set far apart, allowing fairly free movement. Michael stood still for a moment, a slight breeze tugging at him, listening to the sounds of wildlife moving unseen amongst the trees. Set back from the path on which Michael stood was an old cottage, well kept, but insulated from the advance of technology. Small tables and chairs were scattered in front, just far enough apart that conversations would not carry to neighbors. A long slab of ancient oak, it's top polished and finished smooth, sat on huge legs off to one side. Food and pitchers of various drinks littered it's surface. On the porch sat a group musicians, set to play more traditional Irish music, they looked the part, however a small hand lettered sign was tacked to the wall next to them that read, "Will take all reasonable requests." Currently they sat talking and laughing, glasses of beer in their hands. They smiled and nodded to Michael as he walked past them and into the cottage. The inside of the cottage looked bigger than the outside could hold, but that was the benefit of the smoke and mirrors that was the holodeck. Immediately to Michael's left was a living room, with comfortable looking chairs and couches, allowing for quiet discussions, or loud debates. Through a door at the back of that room was a small eating area followed by the Kitchen with was currently stocked with all manner of food to suit all manner of pallets. To Michael's right was a game room, containing all manner of games, including pool, darts, chess, and Michael quickly added Kal-toh, and a couple other games he had learned of since he'd last run the program. On the second floor were more sitting rooms, and quiet corners for other discussions. Michael added a few touches here and there, but didn't change much, leaving the program open to additions from others within reason. Michael walked back out of the house, and turned and looked to the South. He could see the edge of the forest there, and just beyond, a rather clear pond that was maintained as a unseasonably warm temperature. One of his old Comrades had added a tire swing, and Michael had kept it, figuring it was a good addition. Looking around he took a deep breath, relishing the scent of the forest. He knew it wasn't real, but it was a great feeling to be there none the less. He wandered back to the front of the cottage, grabbing a beer and taking a seat, putting his feet up on a table, leaning his head back and closing his eyes. "I'm not too early am I?" Michael heard, as a door opened and closed. Michael opened one eye, and looked over at the voice to spot Emma standing barefoot, sandles held in one hand, next to him. Her long curly hair hung loose around her shoulders, and she wore a long colorful skirt and white top. She looked completely at ease, and as beautiful as ever. "Right on time," Michael said, motioning to a chair next to him, he could hear the fiddle player on the porch tuning up, knowing it wouldn't be long before the music started. Thin white shirt, blackvest, tan pants, and leather boots. Not exactly a pimp suit (crushed velvet and silk cuffs) but Chuck didn't want to attract Ferengi dabo players. As Chuck walked through the holodeck door he could see several officers he knew but he also noticed some folks he didn't know. With the ship now on course for Starbase Six Two One and everything running seemingly without a hitch in regards Engines, sensor pallets and otherwise, perhaps now it was time for everyone to finally let their hair down. The door to the holodeck had opened with the usual mechanical pneumatic actuation it always had done, an almost reassuring sound in fact for it invariable pre-empted enjoyment of some sort or another, the Captain could only hope that the party would meet with everyones expectations and succeed in providing the required and necessary break for all involved. The first thing that had greeted his eyes upon entry, was a rather lovely glade that led up towards a small cottage nearby a river that emptied slowly into a larger lake just off to the East. It was quite idyllic and reminded him somewhat of one of his own programs where he frequently relived an afternoon swim with his beloved Krysta whenever the mood took him and his duties dictated such a diversion. The sound of people talking and laughing around the front of the cottage was a joy to behold, and it was good to see the crew relaxing again and simply 'letting their hair down' after so many tense and challenging situations during their previous missions. The Captain duly made his way up the well worn dirt path, the familiar sound of the doors closing behind him as he did so until he had finally reached the cottage itself, a holographic character dressed in traditional Irish dress greeting him almost imediately and then offering him a glass of refreshing fruit juice upon his arrival there. "Thank you", he said and then took a slow sip of the cool refreshing fluid before glancing around at those assembled therein. Towards the river he spied the Doctor who seemed to be exchanging pleasantries with one of the Marines, the newly arrived Andorian Lieutenant Major if he was not mistaken, then, glancing into the cottage itself he saw the Conn Officer Jennifer Smith looking rather fetching in a cream coloured dress and carrying two glasses, obviously the second of which was destined for an unseen recipient elsewhere. Their eyes met briefly and the Captain nodded in acknowledgement before she moved off towards whoever that might be. The Vulcan hybrid CO then availed himself of a seat nearby, a small wooden bench designed to seat perhaps six people on opposing sides to one another. He took another sip of the drink and then allowed his mind to wander just briefly as the slightest of breezes made the leaves of the trees dance high above him. His thoughts were entirely predictable of course, the whole scene reminded him of her. If only she could be here now, for then the lovely scene that had been created from all of this light and holomatter would be truly complete. But alas, it could not be. The Captain took another sip of his drink and listened to the music that had by now begun to permeate the air from within the small cottage itself. He allowed his mind to wander once again. (reply T'Vhor, any) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Spectre - Holodeck 2 - Captain T'Vhor - 20:21) The Andorian Marine had simply appeared before the CO, his arm coming out into a salute as he planted both feet hard onto the dirt and stood rigid in classic, Marine formal greeting to a superior officer. "At ease Lieutenant Major, formalities, though time honoured and in keeping with regimental logic, are not required right now. This is a party after all, feel free to relax", said the CO as he took a sip of his drink and then awaited the Andorians response. "Sir, I'd like to speak with you for a few moments, if I can," Khran said. The Captain placed his glass upon the table and then turned to the blue skinned Marine. He had almost uttered the phrase 'I'm all ears' again but thought better of it. Vulcans, whether hybrid or full blooded invariably failed to see the humour in double entendre's. "Of course", said the Captain. "Sir, it seems that there is a culture of misbehaving in the enlisted ranks of our Marine units. Public drunkeness and general rowdyness - so on," Khran offered. "It seems that the Lt. Colonel and Major Kowalski seem to have done little to stop it" said Khran. "This is not a matter for command Mr Khran, I am certain that either the MCO or the MXO themselves would arguably be your first point of contact on this matter", said the Captain. "I understand that Colonel Krige is in charge of the Marines, sir, but I doubt he would do anything" said Khran, appearing somewhat in disagreeance with the Spectre's Captain. "I am not sure I would agree with that sentiment Lieutenant Major.... in my dealings with both Colonel Krige and Major Kowalski, I have found them to be diligent and forthright in their diciplinary dealings with the Marine crews serving under them.... have you raised this matter with the Colonel at all?", asked the Captain. "No, sir, I haven't discussed this with Colonel Krige, however, I imagine he would just tell me to worry about my own Marine company and let the others worry about theirs", said Khran. The Captain nodded and glanced about briefly to those enjoying the various levels of merriment that were beginning to get under way now. "Arguably", said the Captain as he took another sip of his drink and pondered the matter for a moment or two. "Are you worried that the Marines may cause problems here Lieutenant Major?", said the Captain quizzically. (Reply Khran) "I can assure you that if they acted out of context with the reasons for this party, then they would of course face the consequences of such actions", said the Captain. (Reply Khran) "Rowdiness will not be tolerated Mr Khran, you have my personal word on that. Now please, enjoy yourself", said the Captain, just as the First Officer, together with one of the Science Officers headed off into the cottage itself so as to ingratiate themselves with the small gathering of musicians therein. ~Fascinating, I had no idea the Commander could even play the flute~ thought the Captain as he swung about and then listened intently to what was about to transpire. He realised that he was feeling a lot better after talking at Khran and felt ready to get back to the party. He walked back to the cottage and listened to the music as he got closer. He saw people milling around out side talking. He saw Jennifer smith talking to an Ensign from the science department. ~From what she is wearing she’s looking like she’s here for a good time~ He went into the cottage looking for something to drink. He nodded and smiled to people as he passed towards the bar. “What do you want?” Andrew looked at the barman. “What do you have that is non-alcoholic.” The barman handed him a PADD and Andrew took a look at it. “Hmm what’s a virgin mojito?” “Its just like a normal mojito but with out the alcohol.” “Okay I’ll try it.” Andrew watched the barman putting the mint, lime and apple juice along with lots of ice into a glass. He took the glass when the barman had offered it to him and walked back outside to listen to the music. Lets have some fun," She said as they reached the open space in front of the porch. Emma dragged Michael over to the set players and looked at the fiddler, "Mind if I try my hand?" He smiled graciously, and handed her the fiddle and bow, moving off towards the drink table. "Grab a flute," Emma said looking and Michael. "I'm not sure about this...," Michael started to say, but Emma was already seated and raising her bow, and the flute player was offering Michael his flute with a 'Don't argue, just do what the lady says' grin on his face. Michael took the flute and the offered seat, and waited for Emma to start things off. He'd learned how to play as a kid, as did a lot of kids. Emma started playing, and picked a classic, albeit a fast one. Michael cast her a glare, which just earn him a wink as the rest of the player joined in. ~~Just like riding a bike they say,~~ Michael thought as he brought the flute to his lips and took off after Emma. Someone had certainly outdid themselves on the creation of this lovely place. She'd been aboard two or three days so far, and was settling in comfortably. She accepted the drink handed to her and sipped it, her eyebrows going up as she tasted the real alcohol in it. She sipped it carefully as she moved about the room. She didn't really know anyone here yet, so she found herself off to a side. There were these odd nuts on the table, and a human food called a pretzal. That said there were one or two people he didn't know himself. In keeping with the 'invitation', H'Chir was wearing a loose-fitting pale waistcoat and knee-length shorts. A creature from cooler climes, H'Chir was relieved their host hadn't selected a warmer setting for the get-together, and the freshness of the breeze was in pleasant contrast to the earthiness he had felt all around him on Ushar Prime. At the outset of any journey at warp speeds the marked change in the speed of the warp core's pulsing presence is enough to give the feel of the great bulk of the ship straining herself into extra-light speeds. Over the course of the journey the pulsing becomes second nature, a background effect over the thrum of daily life, no longer a strain and instead inspiring the feel of a fine athlete comfortably within her stride. Naturally the sudden absence of this background causes an involuntary moment of terror as each individual's sub-conscious tries to work out what's changed, what's missing. Within seconds the conscious mind reasserts itself with the knowledge that they must have reached their destination system. As was his standard practice at the end of such journeys, H'Chir had touched two controls on his personal workstation; the first confirming the time (and thus confirming that they had indeed reached their destination as planned), the second a graphical representation of the power flow to both the impulse engines and the thrusters. Aware of a change he glanced at the second screen again. A definite swing from the impulse engines to thrusters. ~It would appear that we've arrived home.~ On the assumption that shore leave would be granted to all personnel, H'Chir returned to the roster he was working on to finalise those arrangements, whilst also preparing a readiness report for the Captain and a final requisitions order for the starbase's Operations Chief. ~Their runabouts are supposed to have received sensor upgrades recently. It had been a welcome break after the Ushari mission, and although the colour scheme of a starbase was not that much different in blandness to working beneath the surface of a planet, it made a welcome change anyway, and certainly one which bore more familiarity to a Federation crew than where they had just been. As for the Captain and his senior officers, most of them had simply frequented the more 'layed back' areas of the base, some, including the CO taking advantage of the relaxation areas set aside for the recharging of ones batteries after stressful command dealings and such. T'Vhor had been his usual self, having just completed a two hour Vulcan ritual designed to process and catagorise recent events into something at least approaching a logical, orderly outcome of sorts, now he was seated in the mess drinking a fruit juice and simply observing the stars as they moved slowly from one side of a viewing port to the other. If nothing else, it passed time, and it was relaxing. It was whilst lost in this casual observation of stellar events outside the station however that the Lieutenant had actually arrived, greeting the Captain with a simple clearing of her throat so as to announce her arrival, before then going on to verbally introduce herself and deliver the message she had come here specifically to deliver. "Sir, Captain T'Vhor...... Lieutenant Suran, adjutant to fleet command here on the station. I have a message from Admiral Durant that is marked as, 'of the utmost importance' sir. He would like to meet with you as a matter of urgency within the hour", said the petite, and 'otherwise' rather pleasant young officer. The Captain quirked his head and then raised an eyebrow in quizical Vulcan fashion. "Of the utmost importance Lieutenant?", he enquired. "Yes sir, utmost", said Suran, stating the sentiment now with purpose. "I see", said the Captain, "and this is to do with?", he enquired again. The Lieutenant shifted slightly in her gait, her hands though remaining behind her back throughout their rather sparse conversation. "I'm sorry sir, I cannot discuss the details here and now. The Admiral will explain further when you meet with him", said Suran, "can I tell him that you will do so within the hour?", she added. The Captain pursed his lips slightly, wondering just what it was that was so urgent, then he responded with a nod. "Please do so, where does he wish the meeting to take place?", said T'Vhor, wondering as he spoke now whether that would be something that the Lieutenant would be unauthorised to speak of also. "The Admiral has arranged to meet you in the diplomatic conference room on deck five of the station sir, he has stressed a preference for around thirteen hundred hours", said Suran, intonating by that that although the alloted time was variable, the Admiral expected nothing less than promptness in this matter. T'Vhor nodded again and then confirmed that he would be there at the requested time before turning his attention back to the viewing port and the stars that had now tracked across his particular window, and into an adjacent one imediately to his right. He took a slow sip of his fruit juice, thankful now that there was at least time to enjoy the remainder of it, then once the glass had been drained, he stood and left the mess hall. (Reply None) (Posted by Alan) (Starbase 621 - Diplomatic Conference Centre - Captain T'Vhor - 12:59) Entering into the Conference room the Captain was surprised to see that apart from himself and the Admiral that had actually requested his presence, there were only two others in the room, one being a Starfleet Officer carrying the rank of Commander, the other apparently a civilian female attached to Sciences. They were introduced as Commander Forbes and Doctor Samantha Gunnell by the Admiral, who in turn had formally introduced himself as Xavier Durant. He then requested the Captain take a seat before quickly coming to the crux of the matter at hand. "I'll waste no time in coming to the point Captain T'Vhor.... something has come up, something not good", said Durant stressing the 'not good' as he began perusing a nearby PADD for specifics on the matter. "Something not good Sir?", enquired the Captain. The Admiral took a deep breath and layed his hands upon the table before him, then he began to elaborate. "We need the Spectre immediately Captain", he began, "she is being ordered to the Zeta Gellis Cluster. As of now, all leave is cancelled, all crew are to be recalled to duty for disembark at 22:00 hrs tonight", said Durant. The Captain's brow furrowed slightly at the news, his crew had only just stood down, what had happened that was requiring their urgent redeployment? "May I enquire as to why the urgency sir?", said the Vulcan hybrid, wondering now whether he would be getting all of the facts judging by the emotional shifts he now senced in the mind of the nearby Gunnell. Admiral Durant took another deept breath, then he turned his attention to the aforementioned Civilian seated to his left. "Doctor Gunnell here will be accompanying you as mission specialist, she will fill you in on all of the details as you go but I must stress, this mission is confidential, details are on a need to know basis only and will be restricted to command personnel until further notice", said Durant. ~Another 'need to know' based mission~ thought T'Vhor. This was not something he particularly relished at all, in the past he had always believed that his crew deserved nothing less than all of the facts when they were called into a mission, the recent retrieval mission in regards the Federation president himself had been one such mission and secrecy had indeed abounded in triplicate throughout it. Now he was being asked again to withold details from those that served under him. "May I enquire then as to what your speciality is Doctor?", said the Captain turning his attention thenceforth to the Civilian female, his enquiry though was met with an immediate interrupt from Durant, thus saving the woman from having to explain herself directly. "Doctor Gunnell is a Borg specialist Captain, at this point there is no need for you to know any more than this other than the fact that it would appear that something is going on in the vicinity of the Zeta Gellis cluster, and that it may involve the Borg", said Durant. "Your sealed orders are already available on file, specifics are mentioned but your main point of access will be Doctor Gunnell", added Durant. The Captain simply nodded. What else could he do? "The Zeta Gellis Cluster is the outermost marker of the Subspace River Sir", said the Captain, offering the fact more as an acknowledgement of him being aware of this, than a question that might require an answer. "It is Captain", said Durant, "and the Borg are seemingly showing an interest in it, which is why we are treating this matter with all the urgency it deserves", he added. The Captain nodded again. The Borg gaining access to the River was certainly not something that anyone might relish, that much was for certain. "I see, then I will endeavour to make sure that I approach it thus", said the Captain. "Very good Captain, you will of course be updated as and when things might change", said Durant, "I stress again though, the specifics of this mission are to be discussed with your First Officer and immediately relevant department heads only", he added, "the last thing we need are people running scared and expecting a repeat of the Wolf 359 incident.... do I make myself clear Captain?" "Perfectly Sir", said T'Vhor. "Then our meeting is concluded Captain", said Durant as he stood from his chair and then gathered his PADD and briefcase. "I look forwards to your reports on this matter, until then I bid you a safe journey" He then vacated the room with Commander Forbes, leaving the Captain in the presence of their new mission specialist whom the Admiral gave a cursory nod to before leaving. Doctor Gunnell had simply smiled and then turned her gaze to the Vulcan hybrid now charged with settling her in on board Spectre. (Reply None) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Captains Ready Room - Captain T'Vhor - 13:16) Upon the Captain's return to the Spectre the corridors of the ship were as familiar as they had been upon his departure, with the exception of course of the fact that various bulkhead panels now lay removed upon the decking throughout, the accessways they had previously covered now exposed for the routine maintenance being carried out upon any starships docking of a starbase. Doctor Gunnell had been predictably quiet throughout the brief walk back to the ship and despite the clear emanations coming from within her mind, it had been clear that she had felt somewhat ill at ease about this mission and where it might possibly lead them. Perhaps given the nature of the threat itself it had simply been the obvious need for secrecy, or perhaps it was just that she was not the talkative type, whatever the reason though it was understandable of course, whenever the Borg began moving pieces upon the chessboard of the uiniverse it invariably spelt impending disaster of some kind or another and no doubt this time, it might possibly foretell the same outcome. Entering onto the bridge, the Captain had made his way directly to his ready room and, as he had done before upon reaching every other door throughout the ship, he respectfully gestured the Doctor to enter through it first. The Doctor graciously accepted of course, then once they had both entered, availed themselves of the services of the replicator and made themselves comfortable, the Captain proceeded to open up the sealed orders via his desktop console whilst Gunnell sipped at a glass of iced tea opposite him. The orders made interesting reading that much was for sure but for now anyway there were things that must be attended to before they could be under way again. To a Human Captain the subsequent act that followed might have involved a certain degree of displeasure, after all cancelling leave for the entire crew was hardly going to go down well, on the plus side though, they now faced approximately one hundred and nineteen days of travel at Warp Eight before they arrived at their designated destination, plenty of time for the crew to relax one would think. T'Vhor however was not a Human Captain, he was a Captain driven by logic and as such it was without emotion that he tapped at his combadge and opened a channel to the First Officer. [Line open] "Attention all Spectre Crew, this is Commander O'Connor, all crew is to report back to the Spectre immediately, and begin preparations to leave dock by 2130 hours." Michael said, if the mission was as important as Command was making out, better to be ready early. "Department heads and their immediate subordinates are to report to the Observation lounge for a briefing at 1800 hours. O'Connor Out." Michael took a long sip of tea before he tapped his comm badge again. "O'Connor to Lieutenant Commander Rogers." (Reply Rogers) "Report to the Captain's Ready room at 1630 hours." Michael said. (Reply Rogers) "You'll find out then, Mr. Rogers. O'Connor Out." Michael quickly changed into his uniform and left the holodeck, heading for the Captain's ready room. Tapping the door chime when he got there. (Reply T'Vhor) (Reply T'Vhor, Rogers, ALL) (Posted by Patrick D.) Department heads and their immedate subordinates are to report to the Observation lounge for a briefing at 1800 hours. O'Connor Out.=/\= "Well... that was quick!" H'Chir remarked to his empty office. He'd opted to spend his time since their arrival at Starbase 621 overseeing the repair-and-resupply operation by the Starbase's crew. Their Chief of Operations had made a great show of being grateful for the assistance ("we're a little short of bodies around here lately") but H'Chir knew that inside she had been cursing his as yet another over-protective Chief Engineer who didn't trust her team to do their jobs. "Best get this show on the road: H'Chir to Bovitsky, I assume you've received the same announcement I just got. I want you to begin to collate a general systems readiness report as soon as you get back. Co-ordinate with whoever you need, but make sure we have all the answers ready for the briefing at 1800. I'm going to focus on the shield emitters, I'm still not happy with how they stood up to that last attack." (NRPG: Room for more here if you like) "H'Chir out." (Reply Bovitsky) (Posted by Michael Drake) (Starbase 621 - Promenade - Engineer's Mate, CPO M'Rurrh - 13:24) Unlike her department head, M'Rurrh had jumped at the chance to get out from the Spectre's engine-room and stretch her legs. She'd already bounded round the promenade in search of somewhere to have dinner the previous evening, and now she was indulging in a little R'n'R with some of her colleagues. Their trip had taken them through the botanical gardens, into several shops and they were now in the course of deciding where to eat lunch. "I don't know... There's something about Klingon food that just doesn't feel very lunch-ish... I mean, who wants to drink that much blood-wine when there's still a whole afternoon's exploring to be done?" At that moment each of their comm-badegs bleeps simultaneously. =/\=Attention all Spectre Crew, this is Commander O'Connor, all crew is to report back to the Spectre immediately, and begin preparations to leave dock by 2130 hours. On foot, or should we call for a transport?" "Wait ... just a moment, Sir." said a pasty faced Security officer running to catch up to Chuck before he boarded the Spectre. "Can I help you, cadet?" asked Chuck turned to face the man. "I just wanted to tell you that I enjoyed your martial arts lecture. I've never heard it explained quite the way you did. It's changed my whole outlook on the Martial Arts." said the man. "Believe it or not ... that comment made my whole experience onboard this Starbase worth the effort." Said Chuck turning away. It had all prompted a barrage of questions of course, why the urgency being the most obvious of course. Krige had been completely in the dark also and when quiried, had confessed to being none the wiser as to why's and wherefores. Seemed even he had been denied specifics on this mission. It was all irrelevant anyway, as Marines they went where they were told and they did what was asked of them, no doubt the fact that they had been requested to remain onboard spoke volumes about what they might expect, the men though would not be liking this at all, not one little bit. Kowalski reluctantly opened a channel. "Kowalski to all squad leaders, report to the briefing room at 14:30 hrs, anyone currently on leave at the station, recall them no questions asked... get to it people", said the MXO. Or something like that. Pieter smiled and then placed his hand upon the Security chief's shoulder to grip it firmly in a gesture of cameraderie. "Yellie, you were always Pavels favourite niece", he uttered, "you know that don't you?", he added as though unsure as to whether she actually did or not. Yelena nodded. "Of course, but then that was purely because I was more like a boy than his own two boys", said Yelena as she toyed with her shot glass upon the bar. "I could take his fire water better than any of them, Uncle always respected that in anyone, let alone kin", she added. "Da...da", said Pieter with a nod, pausing then to ponder upon old times before continuing on. "So, your ship is heading out again then uh?", said the big bear-like Russian as he called for a refill from the somewhat bored looking bartender nearby. "It would seem so, the orders just came through", said Yelena, "although this time she will be heading out without me" "Without you?", enquired Pieter. "I'm headed to Earth, then Geneva, I need to take advantage of some leave that's owed me", said Yelena, "and besides, I have Donaldson to look after things for me until I get back", she added, upending the glass so as to drain the last of the contents down her slender throat in one. "Na sdarovie", she cried, and Pieter did likewise with his own glass in accompaniment of her toast. "Are you sure your 'Donaldson' is up to replacing the void you will leave behind Koshka?", asked Pieter. Yelena Nodded again. "Donaldson is a little unsure of himself, perhaps a little wet behind the ears but he's a capable officer..... Da, I trust him Pieter", said Yelena, perhaps trying to convince herself of that fact more than anything else as she thought back to his uncertainty when she'd actually offered him the top slot in the first place. Pieter raised his eyebrows and quirked his head slightly to one side, then he turned suddenly to the Irish congregation nearby. "Excuse me, I couldn't help but overhear your discussion regarding the type four propulsion coil in the impulse drive of a type nine runabout", said Pieter leaning towards the officer nearest to him, "if you reverse the phase variance of the generator and reallign the resultant output, you will find that you get a nineteen percent increase in the field itself", he added. The Engineer looked on somewhat surprised at the mans interruption but nonetheless nodded as he contemplated the suggestion. "But if you do that, you run the risk of destabalising the entire field and collapsing the drive altogether", said the Irish Engineer. "Da...", said Pieter raising a finger in the air, "but not if you employ modulation of the interface circuitry whilst the field is in variance", he offered. The Engineer fell silent, clearly running the possibility through his head. Then he nodded. "I hadn't thought of that, that could work", he said with another appreciative nod, "I'll run a simulation when I'm back onboard... thanks" "Your welcome", said Pieter before turning his attention back to Yelena who just smiled and then shook her head. "You never could resist interfering Pieter, someday you'll cause a big problem in someones engines, then you'll know all about it", she said dryly. Pieter shook his head. "Me, never.... you forget, forty two years of service, I've picked up a trick or two Koshka", he added as he motioned to the bartender for another refill and then enquired of Yelena as to whether she wanted a refill also. "Not for me Pieter, I must be going... things to do, I've already booked transit to Earth and can't miss the connect", said Yelena. Pieter shrugged his giant shoulders and then quirked his head. "So be it, but next time Yelena, we will drink until morning and beyond and sing songs of old times in mother Russia....da?" "Yelena smiled and gave the big man a hug. "Da.. for sure", she said, "it's been good to catch up again you big lummox. Hopefully the next time we meet, we will have more time", she added. "Always running away, but hey.... have fun Koshka. I'll have two for you now eh", said Pieter with a laugh that a Klingon would have been proud of. "You do that old man, I'll be seeing you", said Yelena as she stood and then headed towards the door to another cry of 'Na sdarovie!' as Pieter began toasting the Irishmen seated nearby, much to their obvious confusion...
