It had been a much longer stay in dock that he had expected and it was quite unusual, however, he was getting more excited as the time drew closer that he decided to remain in his office. The terminal beeped as a new message arrived and admittedly, it was a struggle... he had his feet on the desk, the lights were turned down and not a lot noise came from around him as the night shift of Engineers completed their duties. The struggle was won when the left foot successfully moved the terminal to face him followed by a heel pressing the button to activate the screen. "Aha! Foot One, Computer Nil.", he said with success at his accomplishment. He looked at the message, sure, it was a long way from his eyes and it was dark so he resigned himself to sitting up and putting himself closer to the message. It was regarding one of the Engineers from the Mithrandir. The CEO pulled out a PADD and examined the records of Ensign Stevens and Remae began to form a reply. (Reply from Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre - Engineering - CEO's Office - Ensign Remae Ktell - 21:30) He read the message back to himself before he sent it to the First Officer... 'Ensign Hank Stevens, completes work assigned... competent Engineer with a fine record on the Mithrandir and the Spectre during their extended stay...' Remae also added that Stevens had not spoken to him recently about any concerns. He sent the message and began to work on the duty schedule a little, just in case they were going to be short an Engineer during their new mission. Working in the dark with nothing but the pulse of the warp core to keep him company, meant a lot to Remae. He intended to enjoy all of the peace and quiet while he could. (Reply from Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) ========================================================================= Mission: Inimicus Invisa Day: 1 Stardate 2414.10.01 (USS Spectre - Engineering - Ensign Remae Ktell - 07:32) Remae was having a quick chat with one ex-Engineering Officer. "Chief I've come to apologise to you for not coning to you first concerning changing departments.", said Stevens. He had already changed uniforms to match his new position in Security... "Mr Stevens, I am not going to throw the book at you or anything like that, you wanted a change and I think its all worked out of the best.", he said smiling "Chief, that's all I wanted to say. Thanks.", he said beginning to walk away. "No problem at all, I am sure I will see you around, I suspect this mission will more interesting than ever. Take care of yourself.", said Remae, looking back to his control panel. (Reply from Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre – Captain's Ready Room – CO, Captain T'Vhor – 11:00) The First Officers input was measured, although guarded, albeit fully aware of the ramifications of the defined variables mentioned. Madon was known to be associated with the parasitic life-form that had attempted to infest Geneva, and although it had only been intoned at the time of that incursion, the very mention of her name was not to be taken lightly now! “Trouble, Captain. With a capital ‘T’. Is she known to be involved in the events we’re investigating? If so – well, things will get interesting very quickly indeed.” The Captain quirked his head. The FO's statement was an understatement, Madon's involvement anywhere right now was a definitive no no, the woman was a pariah, a fly in the ointment, a veritable pain in the butt and an infinite amount of other idioms to boot. Wherever this woman turned up, trouble, with a capital T as the FO had suggested, was indeed sure to follow. "There is strong suspicion to suggest that she is Commander, another incursion into Federation space perhaps but one far more thought out than that of the Geneva incursion I fear", said the Captain, pondering the FO's words and then adding to them... "Interesting, is not the word", he said, "I would say, dangerous in the extreme" (Reply Tsukawa, IYW) The FO continued on. “Even if it is just a suspicion, or even a rumour, I still think it behoves us to take it seriously. I don’t think we can risk discounting her involvement without definite proof.” The Captain nodded his ascent. "Indeed. Our mission is thus. Investigate the supposition, ascertain the exact whereabouts and involvement of the Garralon in these proceedings, and then primarily prevent any possible incursion into Federation territory at all costs.", he began, pausing then briefly. "If the Garralon is involved in the manner that Starfleet suspects, then we have orders to destroy her without question before she makes Sol", he added, knowing the effect that his words might carry at that moment in their discussion. (Reply Tsukawa) (Reply Tsukawa) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Science Lab 2 – ACSciO, Ensign (Jg) Ilana Grey – 11:00) Ilana started at her console and had been staring at it for about an hour now. The psi shield she had been working on for the last few weeks was making no progress. She was about ready to abandon the whole project and start with something new. She had through that once placed on a starship she would be given more direction and work under some of the leading scientists in the federation, however it appeared most of her time was spent filling out requisition forms and clearing new equipment. She was glad she had managed to get that spectrum scanner for Linskin hopefully even repaired some of the damage she had done on her first day. She sighed to herself as she started blankly at the computer again. “Computer List all projects currently in progress in the science department” [[Computing]] The computer displayed over a hundred different projects and tasks that were currently listed as in progress, she saw and recognized a few of them as abandoned projects that would probably never see the light of day again. A fair number of the projects were listed under Ensign Linskin she smiled and muttered under her breath ‘guess he wasn’t’ lying when he said that he worked on a lot at night. She scanned through the project titles, nothing struck her interest. She thought about her own project would it be destined to lay dormant amongst these files, unless she could get her hands on a Romulan mind scanner and reverse engineer the projection signals she would have no hope in completing her project. “Computer list all project that have either been abandoned or have not been worked on in the last six months” [[Listing]] Ilana tapped her fingers against the desk rapping her nails in a pattern similar to the charge of the light brigade. She noticed some of the other science officers looking around at her so she stopped. There were a few projects abandoned a while back she went through the list looking for something to spark her interest. Why couldn’t serving on a starship be like the logs she had read of Kirk or Picard where it seemed that almost every week they were presented with a new challenge. Instead she was forced to sit here and clean up old science files that were dormant. She looked over at the empty chief science officers office and wondered if she would ever take the position of Chief Science officer. Apparently all the senior officers had been called up to some briefing or something. Ilana secretly hoped it was some sort of mission some adventure! She paused and got to her feet. “Anyone want a tea or coffee?” she asked the rest of the science office. (Reply Any in science office) (Posted By Jo) (USS Spectre – Ten Forward – CMO Noah – 11:14) =/\= Commander Tsukawa to all senior officers. It will be interesting where we will beging.” She sighed happily. “This will be the beginning of a very great adventure, I am sure!” Noah grinned and nodded again “I am sure that it will be. It will be good to get started.” He took another bite of his meal. [[1148 hours]] "Damnit." he mumbled under his breath. [[Please re-state command]] "Nothing. Nevermind." Commander Tsukawa's message was now running through his mind. ~…mission briefing in the Observation Lounge at 1200 hours precisely. Attendance is mandatory.~ At this moment, he needed to make his way to the observation lounge, and there was still no sign of McKenzie. ~ I guess he'll have to figure this out when he gets here.~ He crawled out from under the console, stood, and dusted himself off. (Reply Any) (Posted by Cody) (USS Spectre – Observation Lounge – CMO Noah – 11:49) Noah entered the room just before the start time. He saw that there were some officers present including the commander and nodded to them. He then saw that Kirrin was had arrived and moved over to her. He gave her a friendly smile as he sat down beside her and waited for the briefing to start. (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - OL - CEO, Ensign Remae Ktell - 11:55) Remae was cleaning his hands on some rag that he had brought up from Engineering, he was rubbing them vigorously as he walked in. He noted a few arrivals as well as the First Officer. "Commander.", he said nodding at Hoshimi as he looked around the table and took a seat near the corner of the room. He hands, now clean, were working a PADD in case any Engineering questions came up or any questions about their refit to Special Operations were asked. (Reply from Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre – Observation Lounge - TAC/SC, Kerge – 11:58) Kerge had spent the last five minutes or so tugging at his tunic in an attempt to make it feel more... normal. Federation material had never sat well with him, it always took him a while to get used to the relative comfort that it afforded in comparison to Klingon armour. With a heavy sigh though, he resigned to the fact that it just wasn't going to be the same, and with that, he entered through the doors of the Obs lounge, PADD in hand. Glancing around, he espied First Officer Tsukawa who had by then taken a seat nearby where the Captain normally sat, as was her prerogative of course. He nodded briefly in her direction and then took the next seat in the line, exhaling once again and then tugging at his tunic for the umpteenth time. Tsukawa regarded him briefly... (Reply Tsukawa, IYW) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Observation Lounge – CSO, Ensign Kurt Palmer - 11:58) Kurt stopped in front of the door and glanced at the chronometer on his PADD… ~Just made it.~ He thought as his face drifted back into its normal, collected, expression. (reply, any) (Post by Cody) (USS Spectre – Observation Lounge - TAC/ASC Ens. Stevens - 11:59) Hank slid unto the meeting area at the last possible moment. He sat quietly in the back trying to be invisible and plainly failing. He was still remembering the visit with the FO and huwchr felt when left her. ~Maybe I should have turned down the field commission and stayed enlisted ~ Hank thought for the umpteenth time. Do to preparations for the mission, Hank had not yet met with Kerge who was now his boss. Hank did not know what to expect. Stevens sat silently awaiting start of the briefing. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Bill W.) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 12:01) The Captain arrived through the doors of the Obs lounge a little later than normally expected from one of Vulcan heritage. Accompanying him through those doors though was Rear Admiral Caladryll Sevant, who immediately elicited the usual response of everyone suddenly standing. His own response was to dismiss the gesture with a wave before taking an available seat at the table, apparently preferring to take a less than formal stance on the proceedings right now. The Spectre carried the Admirals flag of course, the crew knew that anyway but irrespective, not many saw him make an appearance unless it was in regards something very important in regards the ships running or it's ultimate goal. Sevant himself preferred to remain somewhat a recluse of late, spending long hours in his study, or going over Strat Ops and various fleet coordinations. Either way he was here now though, and with the Captain taking his usual seat in the lounge and giving a brief nod to the Admiral himself, he brought the meeting to order. "Gentlemen, ladies", he began, with a respective nod to those assembled and placing the PADD he had arrived with onto the table before him. "Let me begin by saying that I am well aware of the rumours that have been circulating regarding our current mission objectives", he said, "I should point out here and now that we are not heading for a rendezvous with the Borg to discuss a peace treaty, neither are we being sent to Risa to enforce a blanket ban on sexual promiscuity in lieu of a second coming", he added wryly. A few chuckles resonated around the room at that, but then fell silent as the Captain continued on. "No, our mission has far more important ramifications than either of those two scenarios", said the Captain, pausing briefly now to collect his thoughts. "Some of you are no doubt aware that there was an incident involving an academy training vessel, the Garralon, and that she was listed as missing for a duration", he began, "some of you may even be aware that reports were made of her apparent arrival within Cardassian space", he added. The room remained silent, at least for now anyway. "Our mission now is to travel to the Amleth Nebula, which as most of you will know is beyond Cardassian borders", said the Captain, "we are to proceed under cloak the moment we approach Cardassian sensor arrays, and then travel on to the nebula where we will send a convert away team to the surface of Amleth itself.... our target is an individual known as Targin Lau, although this may in fact be a pseudonym" (Reply Any, IYW) "Either way, this person must be retrieved and brought aboard the ship. This is our first, of what I suspect will be many goals in this mission", said the Captain. (Reply Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - CSO Ensign Palmer - 12:02) The Captain had taken his seat and the Admiral Sevant brought the meeting to order. "Gentlemen, ladies" he started settling himself at the table. The admiral continued to debunk a few rumors about this next mission. Kurt's mind was still in sensor control and he wasn't completely focused on the briefing until "... training vessel, the Garralon, and that she was listed as missing for a duration, some of you may even be aware that reports were made of her apparent arrival within Cardassian space" Kurt's mind raced. But he listened intently to their first objectives. After the captain finished a woman sporting science teal was the first to speak up. Her and the captain discussed logistics with the cloaking device and the away team, Commander Tsukawa and a man Kurt assumed the Doctor soon joined in the discussion. It was at this moment that Kurt realized he really hadn't met much of the senior staff yet. Kurt tuned back onto the conversation as the Captian interjected.... "The away team will be comprised of... yourself, Ensign Pendragon, Lieutenant Commander Noah and Ensign Kirrin, and Ensign's Palmer and Grey" Kurt's stomach dropped. ~what do I know about tactical situations~ With in a few moments the meeting was adjourned but Kurt hadn't picked up on it until a few officers were already on their feet. Kurt placed his hands on the table and lifted himself to his feet. As he turned to exit, The man he recognized as the ship's medical chief walked past. He took a couple quick steps to catch up for a quick introduction... "Doctor." he called to grab his attention. (reply, Noah) "I don't believe we've been introduced..." He held out his hand "Kurt Palmer, transfer from the Mithrandir. Pleasure to meet you sir." (reply, Noah, any) ((post by Cody)) (USS Spectre – Observation Lounge – ACscio, Ensign (Jg) Ilana Grey – 12:02) Ilana rushed through the halls of the Spectre trying not to break into a run, she looked at a passing time piece, 11:55 hours, five minutes to make it almost the whole way across the ship. She wished she had checked her messages earlier then she would have known she had been called to the senior officers meeting. She hardly would call herself a senior officer but that wasn’t her call apparently. One of her greatest laments had been being placed in the position of assistant chief science officer, In her mind she was a Junior Ensign, emphasis on the Junior aspect of that. She reached the turbo lift, it was closed, why was it whenever you are not in a rush the turbo lifts are always opening apparently already on your floor, and when you need them urgently everyone on the blasted ship has already called them. She cursed and muttered to herself wishing that she could slow time, or have a personal transporter at her beck and call. She cursed herself again for not bringing a PADD, once she had read the message she had left the science offices in such a rush she had forgotten everything, she could stop by a replicator and get one but that would waste precious seconds. She would just have to use her memory once she hit the Observation lounge. She realise why the meeting wasn’t in the Ready Room, if every semi-senior officer was being invited there wouldn’t have been enough space. She tapped her foot impatiently waiting for the turbo lift. “Computer Call turbo lift, priority.” She said through gritted teeth. Finally after what felt like another minuet the doors swooshed open. There was a midshipman already in the lift. She gave him a nod and stepped in. “Observation Lounge” She said “Computer time?” =/\= The time is eleven fifty-seven =/\= Three minutes, She thought, no time to stop by a replicator. She tried to hold her breath hoping it would speed up the turbolift, it had sometimes helped as a child and was an impatient habit she had carried from childhood. Holding her breath and tapping her foot she caught the eye of the midshipman in the lift. She let out her held breath. “I’m running late” she explained realising she must look ridiculous. “Finally the turbo lift opened and she almost jumped out rushing towards the observation lounge. Almost stumbling in the room she looked around, the captain wasn’t there yet, she was tempted to ask the time but prayed she had made it. She found a and sat down. Almost as soon as her bum had touched the seat the Captain walked in. Struggling to stand up with everyone else she managed it, hoping and praying the captain didn’t see. When he took his seat and everyone else followed suit she let out a sigh of relief. She wished she had managed to bring her PADD. She listened to the captains humor, and genuinely laughed at the one about Risa, she had never been herself but had heard stories, enforcing fidelity on that planet would be like going to ferenginar and stopping the rain. It probably could be done but not without a lot of technology and a few miracles. She listened to the captains tail about the missing Academy ship, having only just passed through the Academy herself she felt a stab of sympathy for those poor cadets and even more so their families. She, like many had assumed the ship had been destroyed initially, She thought about the whole situation and looked around at the other faces mostly solemn, no one was laughing now. "Our mission now is to travel to the Amleth Nebula, which as most of you will know is beyond Cardassian borders", said the Captain, "we are to proceed under cloak the moment we approach Cardassian sensor arrays, and then travel on to the nebula where we will send a convert away team to the surface of Amleth itself.... our target is an individual known as Targin Lau, although this may in fact be a pseudonym" The captain stated Ilana burst out, “Sir, how will our cloak function inside the nebula! It will be a engineering nightmare, any particles impacting on the cloak will give away our position to the Cardassian scanners, they are extremely acute at detecting all forms of energy, and are quite probably putting out tachyon fields to scan for cloaked ships.” She realised she had just spoken first blushing with embarrassment, she looked around, despite being primarily a botanist, a xenoantamologist and having had advanced studying in psionic’s she knew enough about the interaction of so many fields. “Sir the only way we could do it is if we hit the nebula under cloak dropped it immediately and ionized the ship’s hull to mask ourselves as part of the nebula sticking to the dense clouds, we would need advanced information on the nebular to be able to effectively fake those readings, even then how long would be needed to find this person if all we have to go on is a pseudonym, it would be more prudent to leave the covert team on the planet and return for them at a pre-established time, because we couldn’t hide a ship this big for longer than a few hours.” (Reply, CO, Any) "Either way, this person must be retrieved and brought aboard the ship. This is our first, of what I suspect will be many goals in this mission", said the Captain. (Reply) (Posted by Joanna) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 12:04) "Sir, how will our cloak function inside the nebula!", began the assistant CSO in response to the Captains mention of the Amleth nebula. She then went on to explain the problem of dust particles hitting their cloak, and potentially giving their position away to Cardassian sensors. Her argument was valid of course, although only partially. "It must be remembered that ours is not a standard cloak Ensign", said the Captain, "a phase cloak is not inhibited by the same constraints as that of a normal cloak in that any material within the nebula, to a degree anyway, will be out of phase with the Spectre, thus we will pass through it" (Reply Grey, Any, IYW) The Captain then made it clear that although they were indeed traveling to the Amleth nebula, they were not going to actually enter it anyway. "Our target is the first Moon of Amleth itself. We will hide, cloaked and within it's magnetosphere for the duration of the missions first objective goal. An away team will then take a small, specially adapted shuttle to the surface in an attempt to locate and retrieve Lau", he added. (Reply Any, IYW) The Captain appeared to be pondering now. "If need be, the nebula could indeed provide cover for us if something should go wrong", said the Captain, deferring now to Grey's earlier assumption regarding it. "Ensign Grey", he added, directing his query to the young Deltan hybrid now. "What would you suggest in order to minimize our chances of discovery within the nebula, if we were to need to hide within it?" The ACSO pondered just briefly, and then answered. "Sir, the only way we could do it is if we hit the nebula under cloak, dropped it immediately and then ionized the hull to mask ourselves as part of the nebula sticking to the dense clouds, we would need advanced information on the nebula to be able to effectively fake those readings, even then, how long would be needed to find this person if all we have to go on is a pseudonym. It would be more prudent to leave the covert team on the planet and return for them at a pre-established time, because we couldn't hide a ship this big for longer than a few hours. "I understand sir," She said with a nod "I'm not an engineer and don't know the physical properties of a phased cloak, or what would be the effect on subspace would be especially if we try to travel faster than warp four, but I'm guessing that the Phased cloak isn't as susceptible to tachyon scans either?" Ilana couldn't help but smile trying to hide it with her hand she turned it into a cough. She looked across at another ensign who raised his hand to speak, she cursed herself why hadn't she done that it was the polite thing to do. She shouldn't have just blurted out her answer. Hank raised a hand and asked" what is the expected composition of the AWAY team(s) Sirs?" . (Reply, Co) Ilana listened as they talked about the away team someone mentioned sub-dermal implants, it was a smart idea, even if they weren't in the nebular and as far as she knew the Amleth was a fairly inert nebula, although she would have to study up a bit on it, nebula often gave out interference of all types. Even as the rest of the group was talking she was already formulating in her mind a way to use the bussard collector to gather the nebula and vent it through the warp nacelles, in essence anyone trying to track them would see just a huge dense patch of nebular moving through a lesser dense patch of nebular. She smiled to herself wondering what she would do if she saw that on scanner, probably go to investigate she told herself because it would be an intriguing phenomena, then she through about the Cardassians, they had minds that were focused on detail and subtly. Hence their scanners and detection grids were so fine tuned. She looked around at the rest of the meeting. She wished again that she had brought her padd, she then saw a spare one laying on the table in front of her, smiling to herself she picked it up and began composing the bussard idea, along with compiling the data regarding the Amleth nebular. She quickly sent the idea to the CO of engineering and her own science chief. She raised her hand this time, waiting for the captain to notice her, "Sir, could we used cosmetics to disguise the away team as Cardassians or any native species on the moon? It would make it a lot easier to evade detection by any security forces." She suggested, her mind racing as she was now encountering a new problem. She had been stuck on the anti-psionic devise for so long it seemed her own mind was bored and looking for new problems. She briefly wondered if there were any known cases of psionic Cardassians, or indeed what type of plant life would have developed on a moon so close to a nebula but she forced her tongue still, these were questions better saved for private musings. (Reply, Co, Any) (Posted By Jo) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - FO, Commander Hoshimi Tsukawa - 12:05) The appearance of Admiral Sevant together with the Captain hadn’t surprised Hoshimi too much, given how important this mission would be, but it did underline for her how serious things were. Admiral Sevant rarely put in an appearance and still rarer sought out the company of the officers on board (Hoshimi supposed the Captain would be an exception) and she wondered what contribution he would make to the briefing. As everyone seated themselves once more after rising to their feet as the Admiral entered, Hoshimi glanced around and noticed one or two apprehensive expressions. Many of those in the room would not have seen the Admiral before and some of their newer officers must be wondering at his presence. For Hoshimi, it merely underlined the seriousness of the situation. Captain T’Vhor, with the ability he seemed to have to sense the mood of those around him (no doubt due to his Betazoid inheritance), had begun the meeting with a wry comment about some of the rumours that had been making the rounds, drawing a few appreciative chuckles from around the table. But once he touched on the disappearance of the Garralon, the mood became more somber. The announcement of their destination and their initial objective, finding Targin Lau, had the attention of the entire room, Hoshimi was pleased to note. The ACSO, Ensign Grey, was the first to ask a question, which the Captain answered, adding some more details to the mission information he had already given out. He pointed out that they would be using the phasecloak initially at least, but after a moment’s thought he also asked Ensign Grey for suggestions as to how they might hid in the nebula itself, if that became necessary. The young ACSO acquitted herself well in her reply, Hoshimi noted with approval, and also suggested that it might be prudent to leave the covert away team on the planet and return later to pick them up – a suggestion that the Captain agreed he would take into consideration. Hoshimi had a question for the medical department. “Commander Noah, how long would you and your department need to prepare the away team members? It would be prudent for them not only to have the appearance of Cardassians but if possible also to be able to fool at least a cursory scan.” (reply Noah) “May I suggest also subdermal transponders in case of… unforeseen events?” (Reply Noah, Any, All) (posted by Liz) (USS Spectre – Ten Forward – SciO, Lieutenant Jezebel Trelawney - 12:06) Jezebel put her tray on the table and sat down, preparing to eat her lunch. A large glass of St Clements (a mixture of orange and lemon juice) would serve as both starter and refreshment, and she drank thirstily from it before starting on the tuna nicoise salad she had selected for lunch. The options here in Ten Forward were sometimes not as exciting as those on offer from Jerry’s replicator but Jerry was in the briefing which had been called for 12 noon and besides, Jezebel was a sociable creature and enjoyed company. And fresh salad was enough of a treat still after so long at the Starbase that Jezebel wasn’t in a hurry to exchange it for replicated food. She had also selected a few pieces of fresh fruit for dessert, again in preference to the replicated delights available all the time. She was more than half way through the plate of salad when she became aware she was no longer sitting on her own at the table. Opposite her she could see a furry head bearing a wistful expression as two eyes on stalks looked longingly at the orange and banana on the small plate at Jezebel’s side of the table. “Hello!” Jezebel said, wondering if this was a crewmember of some species she hadn’t yet come across, or someone’s pet. She glanced around but couldn’t see anyone who looked as though they had lost someone or something, and returned her gaze to the small creature opposite her. The creature transferred its gaze from the fruit to Jezebel with an expression that would have melted the ice caps of Andoria. “I’m Tommy,” it said. “I like oranges,” Tommy added hopefully. Jezebel smiled. “So do I, Tommy. That’s why I chose one for my desert. They’ve got quite a lot of them in a bowl on the counter, why don’t you go and get yourself one?” Tommy sighed. “Mei Ling doesn’t like me eating the fruit from the counter,” he said, sounding as if his heart would break. By now, Jezebel had finished her salad and was peeling the orange. She held half out to Tommy. “Who’s Mei Ling?” she asked. With amazing rapidity Tommy snatched the proffered fruit and stuffed it into his mouth in one go with an expression of bliss. “Ee urks eer” he said indistinctly. “Ee oz on uh i’an’eer en ee ame eer.” With some difficulty Jezebel translated this to mean that Mei Ling was formerly of the Mithrandir and now worked on the Spectre. “Ah, and you came with her?” Tommy nodded. “I ive ith ur. Ee ooks ah’er ee.” “Tommy! Are you disturbing the customers?” demanded a stern-looking Asian woman. Tommy shook his head. “You must be Jezebel Trelawney,” the woman continued, holding out her hand. “My name is Mei Ling Hikaru and Tommy here is my… well, I’m not quite sure what you’d call him,” she added with a grin. “He was sort of left to me by an uncle… I suppose you could call him a companion.” Jezebel shook the proffered hand. “How did you know who I am?” she asked curiously. Mei Ling’s smile broadened. “Oh, I have my methods,” she said gaily. “Seriously though, how many red-headed lieutenants are there in the Science Department who transferred from the Mithrandir en masse with most of her officers after serving on her only a short time? As for me, I suppose we haven’t met because since we were transferred off the Mith, I’ve been back to Earth to visit my parents, and haven’t long been on board here myself.” She paused, looked at the half orange remaining on Jezebel’s plate, and then gave Tommy a long look. “Tommy Tucker, have you been begging for orange again?” she demanded sternly. Tommy, cheeks still bulging, shook his head. “O,” he said. Mei Ling’s lips twitched and her eyes twinkled as she looked at Jezebel, eyebrows raised. Jezebel grinned. “I wouldn’t exactly say he begged,” she said. “But he has a very nice line in pathetic.” The bartender laughed. “Yes, he does, but there’s a very good reason why I don’t let him have citrus fruit, much as he loves it. It has an unusual side-effect on psammeads – it makes them drunk!” Tommy, who had by now managed to swallow his mouthful, belched loudly. “’S’not true,” he said. “S’a cala… calu…. S’not true.” “And when he’s drunk,” Mei Ling continued, ignoring the interruption, “He sings rude songs. The kind that would make marines blush,” she added. At that Jezebel laughed aloud. “Tommy, you are very naughty,” she said. “Mei Ling, I promise, no more citrus fruit from me!” Tommy heaved a sigh and got down off the chair. Keeping one eye on Mei Ling, he sidled off towards the other side of the lounge, hoping to find someone else willing to share their lunch. (reply any) (posted by Liz) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge – CMO Noah - 12:07) He had been thinking about all that had been said so far in the meeting. There was a lot to digest and mull over. ~Well its not some quick run around the back yard that’s for sure~ “Commander Noah, how long would you and your department need to prepare the away team members? It would be prudent for them not only to have the appearance of Cardassians but if possible also to be able to fool at least a cursory scan.” Noah thought for a moment before answering. “Well the physical surgery would take about two hours and another two for some RNA and DNA re-sequencing for the curiosity scans so about four hours per person. It will depend on how many people are on the away mission but I have my self, Dr Kirrin,…” He nodded to Kirrin who was sitting next to him. “…. Dr Kirien if she is available and the EMH which had just had an enhancement upgrade while we were docked.” “May I suggest also subdermal transponders in case of… unforeseen events?” Noah nodded. “That will not be a problem we could just add that in as we go along.” There was further discussion until the Captain spoke up again, "The away team will be comprised of... yourself, Ensign Pendragon, Lieutenant Commander Noah and Ensign Kirrin, and Ensign's Palmer and Grey ~Me! Well Okay ~ "I myself will also be in attendance, as Lau will only respond to me directly once contact has been confirmed and authenticated” He noticed the slight look that the Captain gave the First Officer and gave a mental smile as he new the regulations just as well as any one else here about Captain’s leading away missions. This type of move was fraught with places where things could go wrong. Hank raised a hand and asked" what is the expected composition of the AWAY team(s) Sirs?" . (Reply Co and/or Fo) (Posted by: Bill W.) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - ACSciO Ilana Grey - 12:11) "The First officer is correct of course, this mission will indeed require a more 'convincing' charade if we are to have any hope of pulling it off. Lau is expecting nothing short of a Starfleet Captain before he agrees to leave Amleth, hence my own insistence to be amongst the away team members", said the Captain. "Once positively located though, he will be able to confirm my identity via DNA sample", he added. As the captain mentioned her name, Ilana froze, this wasn’t what she had been expecting, she would have quite happily remained on the ship, she had no training with covert operations, and even less about Cardassians, save their plants, those she knew like the back of her hand. She nervously glanced down at them and could see them shaking while clutching the PADD she had picked up. She looked up at the captain and then across at six others who were coming, she wondered briefly if they felt the same amount of anticipation and worry that she did. She looked around the room hoping almost praying for an abjection to her being on the away team. (Repl, Any) "Any more questions at this point?", said the Captain, glancing about the room. (Reply Any) (Posted by Jo) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - CEO, Ensign Remae Ktell – 12:12) Remae was listening to the mission information from the Captain and the questions being asked, the mention of Cardassian Space and the Amleth Nebula caught the Bajoran a little by surprise... that alone was unusual but for Starfleet to take a bold move and enter Cardassian Space, something very big must be up. He found himself starting at Admiral Sevant and then back at the CO as he began to calculate the mission variables of entering Cardassian space, and getting themselves through the Sensor Network that would litter the border. Ensign Grey had already raised the issue and Remae was content to sit back and listen at this point. His knowledge of the phase cloaking system on the Spectre told him that they would be impervious to any detection, until they had to uncloak. Following some penetrating questions by the formidable Security Chief, Ensign Palmer was promoted to Second Officer and Lieutenant. Remae smiled at the appointment and nodded towards the direction of the CSO. As the rest of the meeting wrapped up, Remae found himself beginning to organise a list that he would have to attend to before they arrived in Cardassian Space. (Reply None) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - CO, Captain T'Vhor and TAC/SC Kerge - 12:13) Kerge grunted heavily from his chair at the near conclusion of the meeting. Thus far, he had remained silent throughout, he being one of the only crew members on board that actually knew the full ramifications of this mission, and what it might entail. True, the presence of Sevant himself may have raised suspicion, but so far, not one person had queried any deeper than that of the mysterious Targin Lau and the away team tasked with retrieving him! "Sir", began Kerge, sitting upright now in the chair and tugging at his tunic for the umpteenth time. "What of the Garralon, what is it's current status?", he added. The Captain paused briefly. Was that a loaded question designed to make him disclose more than what he wished? He wasn't quite sure... "The Garralon is reported as holding station just within the Cardassian border. It has requested safe passage to Federation space, but as yet, it remains on station", said the Captain. Kerge quirked his head and nodded. "And what are our orders in regards this ship?", inquired the Security Chief. The Captain paused again, there was no doubt now that Kerge was not happy about the crew being kept in the dark here, indeed neither was the Captain, but orders were orders, and Sevant sitting in the corner meant that they could not be bent, not even by a little! "Our standing orders are to bring Targin Lau aboard the ship, the specifics of the Garralon right now are in a state of flux and likely to change. Lau's information will dictate what we are to do next in regards the academy training vessel", said the Captain. Kerge looked briefly to Sevant, who somewhat predictably said nothing. Then he drummed his fingers momentarily upon the table as he contemplated the Captain's answer. "I see", he said. "And the academy cadets? What is their status?" The Captain answered immediately of course. "Alive and well, Mr Kerge", he said curtly. "Any further questions?" Kerge shook his head in the negative, he had questions of course, but this was obviously not the time. Needless to say, he was sure that others would now be querying the why's and wherefores of the mission per se. "Then we will move on", began the Captain, this time turning his attention to Ensign Palmer, the newly appointed Science Chief of the Spectre. "Ensign Palmer", he began, the Science Officer himself turning towards him now as he spoke. "It is with pleasure that I hereby promote you to the rank of Lieutenant in recognition of your advancement to department head, and, if you would be amenable to it, I would like to offer you the position of 2nd officer also", said the Captain, removing a small box from his pocket and then placing it upon the table before him whilst awaiting the CSO's answer. (Reply Palmer) (Reply Palmer, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - CSO, Ensign Palmer - 12:14) "Then we will move on" T'Vhor's attention now turned to Kurt. "It would be an honour sir." He said confidently. (Reply, T'Vhor) "Thank you sir" Kurt replied as he seated himself again. (Reply, T'Vhor, any) ((Post by Cody)) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 12:15) "It would be an honour sir." came the response from the new CSO, and now 2nd officer of the ship. The Captain nodded and then opened the box containing the Lieutenants rank pins and stood to attach them to his collar as he approached, after removing the previous one of course. "The honour is mine Lieutenant", he began, using his new rank for the first time, "you come highly recommended from the Mithrandir, I am sure that you will continue to excel aboard the Spectre also" (Reply Palmer, IYW) The two officers then resumed their seats, the Captain giving a cursory glance to the Klingon security chief as he did so. He understood his feelings of course, but broaching them in a meeting where diplomacy and tact was to be the essence was hardly the way of expressing them. He would be having words with the TAC/SC later that much was certain. For now though, the meeting continued on with a few questions here and there regarding risk factors and such, whilst the quieter ones simply contented themselves with entering pertinent mission data into their respective PADDS as and when it became available. Eventually of course, the meeting came to an end and the Captain dismissed the crew with orders not to mention any of their mission parameters to any of the crew as yet, or send anything untoward via their personal communications to family or otherwise. The request had been met with nods, and a few requisite verbal acknowledgments. By the time they had stood though everyone was aware that this was no ordinary mission, and that discretion now was now an imperative. Not one person though had really raised any issue as to why the Admiral had been in attendance, not that they would have of course, far be it for any of them to quiz a man of such rank, but it did seem... odd. One by one, the officers then left the OBS room, the Captain raising a hand as the TAC/SC made to leave also. "A few moments of your time if you please Lieutenant", he said, clearly not the most pleased of countenances being worn upon his face as he spoke. The Klingon narrowed his eyes and then exhaled heavily, then he sat back down again and awaited the grilling that was sure to follow... IIIc wasn’t the highest position obviously but the CSciO Defiantly deserved it. She glanced back to Kerge who was seated just behind her, obviously uncomfortable in his federation uniform. She had caught on to a few facts about the missing craft, but not the whole information it was clear that Kerge was in the know and trying to force the captains hand to spill the information without actually disobeying any orders he had been given. It was a slightly sublet attempt from Kerge, or at least the Kerge that Ilana had encountered in the shuttle. She wondered what the ‘big secret’ was. Although she was more nervous about the upcoming away mission. She made a note to herself to speak to one of the security personnel after the briefing to get some pointers, her hand to hand was abysmal and her phaser instructor had said quite blatantly, ‘You couldn’t hit a barn wall from the inside” To be honest she hadn’t been that bad… although she had managed to destroy more holo-emiters in the holosuit than she had targets. She watched as the captain pinned the promotion pips to the Science Officer and smiled. She tapped into her pad, Send congratulatory bottle of wine to CSciO. (Reply: Any present) (Posted by: Bill W.) (USS Spectre – Main Engineering - CEO, Ensign Remae Ktell – 12:30) With the meeting concluded, Remae had made a quick but not too noticeable departure from the Observation Lounge to return to his duty station; he did a quick computer library scan of a medical device he had seen and then he contacted the CMO and the FO with a message regarding them. “Computer, send this message to the CMO: 'As part of the Cardassian disguises, you may want to incorporate this sub dermal device. It will emit false readings back to any device scanning it, in this case, you can program the device to return Cardassian Lifesigns. The device is easy to replicate, and is located under file #5566 Gamma 9.'” The message was sent and then Remae pulled up the information the computer had on the Nebula. “Ensign Remae to Ensign Grey, Ensign, would it possible to see you in Main Engineering when you have a moment, I would love a quick conversation regarding the Amleth Nebula.”, he said, he was not taking any chances, even though they weren't planning on heading into the Nebula itself, it was the best place around Amleth for cover. (Reply from Grey) After quick chat with the ACSO, Remae opened yet another channel, this time to the First Officer. “Commander, the Captain mentioned adapting a shuttle for the away team to use, do you have further information regarding those requirements? I would like to get the Engineering teams to work on the shuttle if major alterations are required.”, he said and he awaited the reply. (Reply from Tsukawa, Grey, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre - Science - ACSciO Ilana Grey - 12:32) Ilana got up her hands still shaking, if they really intended her to go on the away mission she would need to be prepared, as she left the observation lounge she tapped into her comm. (Reply, Ens. (Reply, Stevens) (Reply, Any, All) (Posted by Jo) (USS Spectre - Security - TAC/SC Kerge - 12:43) Kerge entered security like a behemoth on heat. His earlier dressing down from the CO still ringing in his ears and tugging at his Klingon angst. On a Klingon vessel like the B'Quaj'ah, Kerge may have allowed himself less restraint on such an occasion, but Starfleet did things very differently, much to his consternation. The security people here right now though could see that the Klingon was...perturbed, and as he went into his office, they could here him banging about heavy handed as he sat, and then pulled up the schematics on the known Cardassian listening posts. If the Captain was going to play 'creepy mousy', then at least they needed to know where they were most likely to hit a mousetrap! Looking briefly through the window of his office at those outside, he spied Pendragon and the newly assigned Stevens chatting to one another, probably about the meeting no doubt. In a brief silence though, Kerge contemplated Stevens. ~Why would an Engineer suddenly want to change departments?~ The thought niggled him somewhat, but then 'everything' niggled Kerge right now and so he threw it aside and then began perusing the tactical intelligence on the Cardassian sensor arrays and grids. He exhaled heavily as he settled in for the long haul, he had a feeling though that this was not going to be a simple in and out kinda mission... (Reply Any, IYW) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 12:45) The Captain came onto the bridge with his usual composed manner in evidence now. The matter of the TAC/SC had been duly addressed, Sevant himself having put his credits in during the ensuing, somewhat heated discussion also. "Klingon's have always worried me", he had snapped, AFTER the departure of Kerge of course, "they've never forgiven us for bailing their butts out when Praxis went up. Great warriors yes, and they'll watch your back, but don't ever trust them to be diplomatic Captain", he had added. Those words still resonated in the Captain's mind when he retook the centre chair and ordered an operational update. Everything came back fine of course, the ship was hardly out of port, what could possibly go wrong with a ship that had just undergone a complete shakedown and overall? Kerge likewise, had returned to his department now, he had work to do and had been ordered to liaise with Science so as to ensure that all proximal sensor alerts were tied in to his department. If they were discovered beyond Cardassian lines, then their respective butts would be in the slingshot for sure, and Kerge did not like to be left out of any loops. The FO then took her seat beside the Captain, distracting him from his thoughts of Kerge after having just attended to a few matters elsewhere. She looked calm and collected despite the nature of what they were doing, and it wasn't just a show either. The Captain could 'feel' that now as he glanced briefly towards her. It was at that point though that one of the readouts varied on his armrest console just slightly, he had seen it from the corner of his eye. Accessing it immediately, he verified that it was more than likely just a spurious power fluctuation, ran a short test of the relevant circuitry, and then turned to face the viewscreen once again, the warp stars now streaking towards them as the sped on towards the Cardassian border... (Reply Any, IYW) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Main Engineering - Ensign Remae Ktell – 12:49) “We should engage the phase cloak, now!”, said someone from behind. Remae was working at one of the aft consoles when he overheard the comment. Turning, he noticed a small group of Engineers, mostly non-commissioned officers talking to an Ensign. The CEO noted that he had no idea who that Ensign was, but he made his way over to the corner where they were speaking anyway. “Problem?”, he asked, louder than he needed but loud enough so that everyone could hear. “No Chief.”, came the collective reply from all. “I see.”, he said walking around and placing his backside on one of the stations, arms folded. The station beeped in annoyance. “Why I am not convinced with that reply? Did I hear someone say, lets engage the phase cloak now?”, he said and then added, “Why would we do that?” Nervously, the collective opinion of the group seemed to be fear of being caught crossing into Cardassian Space and a general worry of being out-gunned should anyone nearby noticed the Spectre heading towards the Cardassian border, and wanting to do something about it. “Who knows what could be around?”, they agreed amongst themselves. “Let's assume for the moment, the CO upstairs knows what he is doing and then lets consider what happens when the phase cloak is engage. I take it you all took the courses prior to coming on-board a Spectre Class Starship?”, he said sighing, like a parent, disappointed but tolerant. “Okay, this panel here...”, he said pressing a few buttons once he has stopped using it for a seat, showed a simplistic view of power operations on the Spectre. There were bars showing power consumption for Warp Drive, Environmental, Science, Tactical, OPS, Other and so on. “These bars show that at the moment, a lot of power is being eaten by the warp drive, next up is Environmental. We expect to see this, power goes to heating, replicators, holodecks... but when I flip this switch...”, he pressed a button and the bars changed radically. “Now you get to see the ship running at warp and with the phase cloak in operation.”, he pointed at 2 large bars, one indicated warp drive, one indicated phase cloak and one tiny little bar that said, other. “That other bar is everything else, sensors, weapons, heating, cooling, gravity, lights, turbolifts, medical, waste management...”, he paused again. “When the CO orders that the phase cloak engaged, everything else either goes off or goes into minimal power usage mode, we call this a Blue Alert. That term can be used for landing a starship or whenever a special operation is in effect and doesn't fit into Yellow or Red alert.”, he said turning off the display. “I don't know about you all, but I would like the ship to be as operational as it can be for as long as it can be, trust me, when the call is made and everyone gets cranky about eating rations because the replicators are down to minimal power, you'll wish the cloak was off too.”, he said smiling to them all and he walked back to his terminal once again.
