After that we lose the sensor readings.” Sorenson said looking to the science chief. The pressure on the whole team was ever present- and especially as the tactical officer ran down the list of potential complications. "I'll enhance our sensor recording systems as soon as we finish here." He replied “The guidance system had to be removed as well as the warhead, which means this thing is only going to fire in a straight line.” "Well it's a good thing we aren't relying on my targeting skills." Kurt grinned. “Yeah, exactly. They better not miss.” They continued a few more meters. “Right, one more feat of strength to get this thing into the launcher and we should be good to go.” "Count of three." The group soon had the makeshift probe set in the tube. "Well, the silver lining here is that I don't get to see these systems up close that often." Kurt said rubbing at a glob of some sort of torpedo reside. (Reply, any) "I just have to stop by the science lab and meet you up on the bridge." He nodded as he left back down the corridor. (Reply, any) ((Post by Cody)) (USS Rome - Deck 4, Fore Torpedo Bay - TAC/ASC, Ensign Michael Sorenson - 16:53) Michael sighed as the torpedo probe was loaded. This particular piece of the problem was solved. "Well, the silver lining here is that I don't get to see these systems up close that often." Kurt said rubbing at a glob of some sort of torpedo reside. Michael smiled. "I've seen more than my fair share of torpedo tubes. Even had to clean a few in punishment." "I just have to stop by the science lab and meet you up on the bridge." He nodded as he left back down the corridor. Michael watched him leave then walked over to the console nearby. He wanted to check that the calibrations for launch were perfect. ~If not launched correctly this thing could go too slow, too fast or go spiralling off.~ He tapped a few commands into the console, compensating from the change in weight of the torpedo. He tapped his combadge. "Ensign Sorenson to the Bridge." (Reply T'Vhor) "Sir the torpedo is loaded and the calculations are done. As soon as Lieutenant Palmer finishes up the probe is good for launch." (Reply T'Vhor) "The probe doesn't have any guidance control, Sir. It'll be a straight shot, and the only one we've got." (Reply T'Vhor) As Michael was walking he had begun walking back towards the cargo bay. There was a warhead waiting for him in storage, and there was a bit of time before the ship was ready for launch. (Reply T'Vhor) (Posted by Brandon) (USS Rome - Bridge - CSO LT.jg Kurt Palmer – 17:23) The science chef strolled across the modest bridge to the small science station. Unfortunately these ships had limited sensor equipment onboard so they would have to make due. He clicked a few controls on the console before turning to his science counterpart. "Right, ensign lets divide and conquer." He pointed across the bride to the secondary tactical station. "You reroute the torpedo targeting readouts over here, and I'll connect the torpedo's sensor relay so we can collect all possible information." (Reply, O'Hara) "Then after that we need to change the settings so that we receive and record all possible sensor readings while the probe is active." (Reply O'Hara) "And we have to work quickly, we only have a few moments before we launch." (Reply O'Hara, any) ((Post by Cody)) (USS Rome - Cargo Bay 2 - TAC/ASC, Ensign Michael Sorenson - 17:24) Michael fiddled with the insides of the warhead he had stored in the cargo bay. ~The doctor may be good at surgery, but this is my operating table.~ The away team had grabbed minimal equipment before they had made their way to the station. Now with the ship stolen, Michael wanted a backup plan. He had a few ideas for the weapon, but for now he just wanted it disarmed. Things might not go to plan once the Spectre was discovered, and having an active warhead rolling around the cargo bay was not an attractive thought. After fiddling around for some time, Michael felt the familiar sounds of engaging warp. They must finally be underway. Crossing a few last wires, Michael stood and headed out the cargo bay. With all the torpedo probe's functions routed through the bridge, Michael wanted to be up their to monitor the real time connection. While walking Michael got thinking. He wasn't quite sure what would happen if the probe didn't work. ~Got a lot riding on this torpedo. Better get up to the bridge and prepare the final calculations.~ (Reply none) (Posted by Brandon) (USS Rome – Main Engineering – ACEO, Ens Walker Markell - 17:27) ~You'd think after crawling around this ship for who knows how long, getting interrogated, medically violated, scanned, injected with vaccines and no rest they'd leave me alone for 24 hours, but no...~ "Perfect, I'll get him something to eat once we are in transit." Will said with a sense of urgency in his tone. "Ensign Merkell, follow me please." Walker hopped off the biobed and followed Will. "Coming." he said tucking his soiled shirt. "We think there is some sort of limiter imposed on our warp drive, preventing a proper flow of plasma from the EPS conduit, preventing maximum warp. I am trying to narrow down what the issue is. Care to lend a hand?" "Sure, but about that something to eat...I'm starving." replied Markell. "Alright, take a look at this schematic and tell me what you think. Do you see anything that could be the issue?" Walker studied the schematic as best he could on an empty stomach. "Nothing obvious, but we'll have to take a closer look at the unit. My guess...the main EPS conduits has been damaged preventing proper flow. While I was hiding in here I found many areas that were damaged by phaser fire." He continued, "We need an engineering kit." looking around for the proper kit locker. "Ah...here's one. Okay lets take a look." (Reply Alexander) (Posted by Gavin) (USS Rome – Main Engineering – CO, Captain T'Vhor - 17:28) The Doctor had cleared the new Engineer, Ensign Markell for duty, and Ensign Alexander had just commandeered him to help with their warp engine problem. It made sense of course, given Markell's specialities, but the CO still had some misgivings about him. He had said during his short debrief that he had been ordered to SB 39-Sierra to meet up with the Spectre, the ship which he had claimed to have been assigned to prior to their last departure. The Captain though had been completely unable to check up on the latest orders due to their current 'renegade' status with Starfleet itself, which meant he was now running on trust alone, and with Madon around, trust was in short supply at the moment. Why had the man spent so long hiding out on the station, AND the Rose? The Ensign was a newly assigned officer of course, and perhaps a tad green behind the ears which could explain his demeanour when faced with a hostile invasion force boarding the station, but hadn't he been at least partially aware of the Spectre away team fighting with and interrogating those hostiles? As Alexander and Markell moved off, the Captain turned to Williams. "You are quite sure that Ensign Markell is uninfected?", he asked. (Reply Williams) The Captain nodded... "And the test that you are using could not give a false positive, given that it is now many years since we used it during the Geneva incident?" (Reply Williams) The Captain nodded again. "We need a new sample of the parasite in order to be absolutely certain that its evolutionary process has not changed", said the Captain. "For now, it will have to do, but I need you to check this out" (Reply Williams) T'Vhor moved towards the door of engineering with Williams in tow, his destination now being the bridge. There was no time to lose now so they really needed to be under way if they were to have any hope of catching up with the Ferengi and the stolen Spectre. As they walked though, the CO continued on... "I want you to liaise with Lieutenant Palmer on this, Andrew", referring to the Doctor in an informal manner now, "perhaps Ensign O'Hara also. We need to be sure that the test for this parasite is still viable. In the mean time I'm going to get the ship under way on what power we have for now. Time is of the essence if we are to retrieve our ship again" (Reply Williams) The two men then parted at the end of the corridor, the Captain taking a turbolift to the bridge, the Doctor now heading for the Science labs... (Reply Williams) (Posted by Alan) (USS Rome – Main Engineering – CMO, Cmdr Andrew Williams - 17:31) "You are quite sure that Ensign Markell is uninfected?" Andrew paused as he regarded his Captian’s question. “Well Sir he is as sure are I can be at the moment.” T’Vhor nodded before carrying on. "And the test that you are using could not give a false positive, given that it is now many years since we used it during the Geneva incident?" “No test is 100% foul proof. At the moment the risk of false positives are low but they can’t be ruled out.” T’Vhor nodded again. "We need a new sample of the parasite in order to be absolutely certain that its evolutionary process has not changed", said T’Vhor. "For now, it will have to do, but I need you to check this out" “Yes sir I will get on to it.” He moved with T’Vhor as they headed out of engineering and into the corridor. "I want you to liaise with Lieutenant Palmer on this, Andrew, perhaps Ensign O'Hara also. We need to be sure that the test for this parasite is still viable. In the mean time I'm going to get the ship under way on what power we have for now. Time is of the essence if we are to retrieve our ship again" “Yes sir. I will keep you updated if we find anything.” With that he turned and headed for the science labs to find Palmer and O’Hara and see if they had any ideas about where to start. (Reply T’Vhor, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Rome – Corridor – CMO, Cmdr Andrew Williams - 17:39) Andrew headed out of engineering and headed along the corridor towards the science lab. ~Okay let’s get this started then~ He tapped his commbadge. “Williams to Lieutenant Palmer and Ensign O'Hara” (Reply Palmer, O’Hara) “I have been asked by the Captain to check the parasite test to check its reliability. If you are free I would appreciate your insight into the matter.” (Reply Palmer, O’Hara) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Rome – Main Engineering – CO, Captain T'Vhor - 17:40) Taking the centre seat of the Rome, the Captain activated the armrest controls and then called for operational readiness reports of the bridge crew, which came in one by one. Engineering, of course, reported that the ship was ready for warp but that power was reduced, and whilst T'Vhor knew this was to be expected, he found himself hoping that Alexander and Markell would be able to rectify that situation sooner rather than later. "Bridge to Ensign Alexander", called the Captain, opening up a channel. (Reply Alexander) "Mr Alexander, I'm afraid that you are going to have to work on the problem of the flow restriction on the fly. We cannot waste any more time if we are to find our ship and recover it" (Reply Alexander) "Understood. Be sure to watch the output for transient spikes that may indicate any signs of sabotage. Captain out" (Reply Alexander, IYW) The Captain then gave the order to clear the docking clamps and proceed at One Quarter impulse to the space doors, which were already open due to the fact the station was lacking an active operation centre and on automatic entry and exit assistance. T'Vhor settled back into the command chair as he watched the readouts flicker on and off in sequence on the armrest console, the view skewing in the viewscreen as the ship came about. He'd flown a Defiant Class before of course, and whilst it was every bit as capable as his beloved Spectre, it had to be said that it lacked a certain something that he could not quite put his finger on. "Let's find our ship", he said, to no one in particular and everyone on the bridge, as the ship cleared the doors and then swung to the already prearranged course heading, leaping to the maximum available warp in a photonic blur of light... (Reply Alexander, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Rome - Bridge - CSO LT.jg Kurt Palmer – 17:41) Lieutenant Palmer was just keying in the final commands into the science console as the comm chimed. =/\=Williams to Lieutenant Palmer and Ensign O'Hara=/\= Kurt tapped his commbadge "Go ahead Doctor." =/\= have been asked by the Captain to check the parasite test to check its reliability. If you are free I would appreciate your insight into the matter.=/\= ~no rest for the weary...~ "Understood, we are just finishing up on the bridge, and I'll come down to meet you." He turned to look at his counterpart across the compact bridge. "Palmer out." The comm clicked off. "Right." The science chief paused to collect his thoughts. "Can you finish up here while I go down to check this out?" (Reply, O'Hara) ((Post by Cody)) (USS Rome – Main Engineering – Ops, Ens Alexander - 17:41) Will had been working with Ensign Merkell to try and find what was causing the problem with the warp drive from going faster than warp 7. They would need all the speed they could get if they were going to find the Spectre. They had looked at where the phaser scarring had been, and they still had no luck. They had just regrouped when Will received a hail. =/\=Bridge to Ensign Alexander=/\= "Alexander here, go ahead sir." Will said. He was disappointed that he didn't have good news to report. =/\=Mr Alexander, I'm afraid that you are going to have to work on the problem of the flow restriction on the fly. We cannot waste any more time if we are to find our ship and recover it=/\= "Aye sir, we will monitor things down here, and try and see if we can get some more juice. We can give you warp 7 for two hours. After that, if we don't fix the issue we won't be able to go faster than Warp 5, and even then we risk doing serious damage to the warp core. But I don't think it will come to that." =/\=Understood. Be sure to watch the output for transient spikes that may indicate any signs of sabotage. Captain out=/\= "Damn!" he yelled as he clenched his fist. Will had been hoping he could fix the problem before they left dock. He walked over to one of the consoles and started to pound on it. "Ensign Merkell." He said, "We need to get this issue fixed asap. The EPS relay isn't sending enough plasma to the warp core. The flow is off and we can't get more than warp 7. If we don't fix this, we wont find the Spectre. Hell we may not even be able to keep the warp core going period. (reply Markell) "How long have you been out of the academy ensign?" (reply Markell) "I see, well welcome to the big leagues kid." Will started punching his hand against palm. "Ensign, you said you were hungry, there should be some emergency rations in the supply closet at the entry way to main engineering. Get yourself something to eat, I need to think." (reply Markell) ~What if, what if the problem isn't in the EPS relay. What if we were to, no that wouldn't work. What if we were to reroute the...no...~ WIll stood silently in the center of main engineering. He felt defeated. (Reply Markell) (Posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Rome – Science Lab – CMO, Cmdr Andrew Williams - 17:43) He entered the Lab and crossed over to one of the consoles. As he waited for the others he brought up the data that they had available onto the big screen. ~Okay. Let’s see the basics~ He began to go through the basic information that was available as well as the tests that they were able to use to track the parasitic infection. ~It all seems reasonable but if it has evolved then the tests might not pick it up as easily~ He began to add the data that he had recorded from the away mission to see how it would compare to the information that was already available. (Reply Palmer, O’Hara, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Rome – Main Engineering – ACEO, Ens Walker Markell - 17:46) "Ensign Merkell. We need to get this issue fixed asap. The EPS relay isn't sending enough plasma to the warp core. The flow is off and we can't get more than warp 7. If we don't fix this, we wont find the Spectre. Hell we may not even be able to keep the warp core going period." ~Who in the hell is Merkell?~ He thought knowing Ensign Alexander hadn't likely gotten use to his new crew mate and engineer. He decided not to correct him, at least not now. "Pretty sure I can figure this out. No need to batter the equipment...just something else I have to fix if you break it." he replied. "How long have you been out of the academy ensign?" "Not long...but I know my way around..." he said before being cut off. "I see, well welcome to the big leagues kid. Ensign, you said you were hungry, there should be some emergency rations in the supply closet at the entry way to main engineering. Get yourself something to eat, I need to think." "Good I'm starving." He said bolting to the supply closet. Sure enough a plethora of MREs for the taking. He grabbed a couple and ripped one open and devoured it like a kid at a carnival. Walker moved over to the display console, tapped a few commands, then moved over the the second station and watched the diagnostics bubble up. "...well its a start..." he said aloud. "No sweat Ensign. I think I can clear this up pretty quickly...perhaps 30 minutes tops. I need to get to the aft EPS relay junction...run a few tests. If that's not it I have another idea." replied Walker. (Reply Alexander - IWY) "Back in bit Ensign. I'll give you an update as soon as I can." he said slinging an engineering pack over his shoulder. (Reply Alexander) (Posted by Gavin) (USS Rome - Turbolift - CSO LT.jg Kurt Palmer – 17:50) Kurt stepped off the bridge on his way to the science lab. Around every turn he was surprised at how efficiently constructed the small ship was; The turbolift, for instance, would maybe fit 3 people at the most. "Deck four." The lieutenant called to the lift computer. The usual chime sounded as he descended from the bridge. "Palmer to Captian T'Vhor" He tapped his commbadge. (Reply, T'Vhor) "I've left Ensign O'Hara on the bridge -All arrangements for the probe will be finished in the next few minutes. I'm headed to assist Doctor Williams with the internal sensors now, as per your orders." (Reply, T'Vhor) As the captain replied, he couldn't help but think how little interaction there was between his Vulcan superior and him since his arrival on the Spectre. (Reply, T'Vhor, any) ((Post by Cody)) (USS Rome - Science Lab - CSO, LT.jg Kurt Palmer – 17:52) The efficient arrangement of the Rome was something Kurt could get used to; He arrived at the science lab in no time at all. The doors to the quaint science facility slid open. He grinned and greeted Commander Williams "Hello again doctor. I hear we have more diagnostics to run?" (Reply Williams) He crossed the small lab to take a seat. (Reply, Williams, any) ((Post by Cody)) (USS Rome - Science Lab - CMO, Cmdr Andrew Williams – 17:54) "Hello again doctor. I hear we have more diagnostics to run?" Andrew turned and looked at Palmer as he entered the lab. “Hi Kurt. The Captain wants us to get a better test for the parasite. He is not happy with the level of percentage that we can achieve with the tests that we have.” He saw Palmer take a seat beside him. “I am going over the information that we have at the moment trying to see how we can improve the test and reduce the chances of false positive or negatives.” (Reply Palmer) (Reply, Palmer, any) (Post by Robbie) (USS Rome - Science Lab - CSO, LT.jg Kurt Palmer – 17:58) The science chief took a seat as the doctor replied. “I am going over the information that we have at the moment trying to see how we can improve the test and reduce the chances of false positive or negatives.” "Can I ask what prompted this?" Kurt responded with a hint on concern in his voice. (Reply, Williams, any) ((Post by Cody)) (USS Rome - Science Lab - CMO, Cmdr Andrew Williams – 18:00) "Can I ask what prompted this?" Kurt responded with a hint on concern in his voice. Andrew paused for a moment before he started to explain to Palmer what the Captain wanted. “Our new ACEO,Ensign(JG) Walker Markell was hiding on the station and the Rome. I scanned him and he is clean but the Captain is worried that the parasites maybe adapting to our scans.” (Reply Palmer) “Although in saying that maybe Ensign Walker was just lucky.” (Reply Palmer) (Reply, Palmer, any) (Post by Robbie) (USS Rome - Science Lab - CSO, LT.jg Kurt Palmer – 18:03) “Our new ACEO, Ensign(JG) Walker Markell was hiding on the station and the Rome. I scanned him and he is clean but the Captain is worried that the parasites maybe adapting to our scans.” The doctor replied after he collected his thoughts. "Just a precautionary measure?" Asked Kurt. “Although in saying that maybe Ensign Walker was just lucky.” The doctor added. "It would be much easier to create an efficient sensor protocol I we could test it in a scenario where someone was actually infected." Kurt paused. "Though I wouldn't wish that on this crew." (Reply, Williams) "Ok then, why don't you finish going through that data, and I'll bring up our current scanning algorithm." The science chief said tapping his console. "We can compare and see what we can do to tighten things up." (Reply, Williams) "I'll have to multitask, and also go through the bridge sensor readings when this probe launches. Luckily I can access those from here though." He grinned "I'd much rather have this than run around with a phaser rifle though."
