Corridor outside Cargo Bay – FO, Commander Andrew Williams – 15:09) "Not that I would even consider forcing you to act in a way you would not want to, my dear. There is such a thing as respect for others, you see? You decide whether you want to follow the good Commander or not." Andrew listened to Marsh’s words as he watched the Marines set up. ~Yep he is really getting on my nerves~ He turned to Kowalski “Major hold for a moment don’t breach yet.” (Reply Kowalski) “The Ensign knows more than he is telling. I am not going to send you in blind if we can get better information.” He looked at Marsh and gave him a withering look. “Ensign you know a lot more then you let on earlier. What is this core that you mentioned and how does it work. To answer your other questions we cannot contact our ship let alone another star base so that idea is out of the question. The only other people on this station are my away team the marines and you two so we can’t go and ask them.” (Reply Marsh) (Reply Marsh, Zia, Smithson, Kowalski, any) (Posted by Robbie) (Station Echo One Zero - Level F, Section 5 - Corridor outside Cargo Bay - TAC/ASC Ensign Alexandria Smithson – 15:15) Finally both had returned to Commander William’s position, in time for Commander Williams to say something to Kowalski. “Major hold for a moment don’t breach yet.” (Reply Kowalski) “The Ensign knows more than he is telling. I am not going to send you in blind if we can get better information.” William’s gave an Ensign a strained look then spoke “Ensign you know a lot more then you let on earlier. What is this core that you mentioned and how does it work. To answer your other questions we cannot contact our ship let alone another star base so that idea is out of the question. The only other people on this station are my away team the marines and you two so we can’t go and ask them.” (Reply Marsh) “Tell the Commander what he wants to know Ensign Marsh” Alex said, truly upset, the station was beginning to annoy her now; it challenged her sense of normality. “Or I am going to get very upset and to coin an old phrase you won’t like me when I’m angry” She said. (Reply Marsh, Zia, Kowalski, any) (Posted by Paul Davies) (Station Echo One Zero - Level F, Section 5 - Corridor outside Cargo Bay – ACMO, Ensign(jg), Zia Kirrin – 15:16) Zia had made up her mind to remain with Oggie, whether he decided to re-enter the cargo bay with the newcomers, or to stay outside. She was not that keen on remaining outside but Oggie had been kind to her and she had no intention of abandoning him. As she listened to Oggie urging caution, and suggesting an attempt to contact someone who would at least have some idea of what lay behind the doors before entering the cargo bay, she observed the others around. One in particular - a tall, rather thin red-haired woman who had gone off with one of the marines but now returned - seemed not to like what she was hearing. "Not that I would even consider forcing you to act in a way you would not want to, my dear," Oggie finished, turning towards Zia. "There is such a thing as respect for others, you see? You decide whether you want to follow the good Commander or not." As Zia was about to assure Oggie that she would stay or go according to what he decided, Commander Williams ordered the marine to wait before opening the door. He turned back to Oggie and stated that it was impossible to contact anyone off the station. Zia frowned. That certainly complicated matters. It would seem, if what the commander said was true (which as by no means a given), that they were to all intents and purposes on their own. She sighed. No confirmation or otherwise would be given at least for the moment. Suddenly the skinny redhead spoke up, her voice emotional. “Tell the Commander what he wants to know Ensign Marsh” she snapped. "Or I am going to get very upset and to coin an old phrase you won’t like me when I’m angry." Zia drew a sharp breath and stepped protectively in front of Oggie, although aware that her slim form by no means concealed his. Nevertheless she was certain that if it came down to it, she would give this aggressive woman more trouble than Oggie could or would. Of course with all the others there as well Zia was not foolish enough to think she could win. ~ But no doubt this female is showing their true colours. Oggie is right not to trust them!~ "I find your attitude unhelpful and unnecessarily aggressive," the ambassador's adopted daughter said, looking the woman up and down. "Perhaps you should reflect for a moment how you would feel if everyone on your Spectre suddenly disappeared, leaving only you and one other person, and then a whole bunch of strangers appear out of nowhere telling a tall tale they have no means of proving about time travel and strange happenings. Then they want to know about something which you know is supposed to be most secret. Would you just believe all they say and tell them everything they wanted to know with no proof of who they are and the truth of what they tell you? And if then they threatened you, would that make you trust them? I suggest you do your buttons up!" (reply Smithson, Oggie, Williams, Kowalski, any) (Posted by Liz Geuken) (Station Echo One Zero - Level F, Section 5 - Corridor outside Cargo Bay – COUNS, Ensign, Oggie Marsh – 15:18) "I suggest you do your buttons up!" Oggie shook his head with a pained expression as he stroked his goatee. "Button it or button up your lips, my dear." he said as he sighed once more. He studied the assembled people for a few seconds, still stroking. There were quite a few signs that screamed at him that the 'newcomers' were mentally a tad unstable. He supposed that this may have been due to the things that they had encountered or it was equally possible that they were becoming frustrated at not being able to perform whatever nefarious tasks they had been planning to perform. In either case, the shown mental instabilities were clear danger signs and Oggie could see things develop the wrong way. It was clear to Oggie that he had to give them something, anything, really. Problem was that he couldn't. Unless he tried reasoning again, even though that hadn't really worked before with the Commander. Instead of the Commander re-assessing the situation at hand as intended he had turned on Oggie, accusing him on not telling everything. Which was true, but that was hardly the point. ~Well, might as well give it a last shot,~ Oggie thought as he cleared his throat. "There is no way that you can know what I know, Commander. You may think you know, but you may be wrong in that assumption too. But humour me for a moment and see the situation from our perspective, as my dear companion asserted a few moments ago. Things do NOT add up, Commander, for whatever reason. And you can not fault us for trying to gain some kind of confirmation of the situation that we have been placed in. Yet that seems to be your intent, whether you meant to or not. An apology for that would be in place, don't you think so, Commander? But regardless of that, as I said, you can not know what I know and you can not know the reasons why I would not share information with you. But to assure you, Commander, if I had any information to give and I could be sure that you are who you say you are then I would only be too glad to give that information, freely. Until then you will gain nothing from me, regardless of any pressure placed upon me or my companion .." Oggie's face turned to look at the female Ensign. ".. or any threats levelled against us. Ensign, if one issues threats then you must be willing to fulfil them, regardless of the consequences. I am not sure that you are indeed willing to accept the consequences. Assaulting a fellow StarFleet officer? Because someone told you that he MAY have information to share but does not do so? Using violence to extract information is called torture, Ensign and that, unless you work from a different set of regulations, is one of the fastest ways of being kicked out of Starfleet. And I do not see you wishing to end your career in this place here and now." Oggie inhaled deeply through the nose then exhaled through the nose again. "I could be wrong, of course, in which case I might have to endure some pain. But regardless of what you think, IF StarFleet saw it fit to trust me with certain information then you may be sure that they trust me to use that information wisely. And I will NOT disappoint them." Oggie turned to face the Commander again. "Now then, Commander, do you have ANYTHING, any scrap or information that may lead me to confirm you? Anything? A name? A new member of your crew that come on board after your timejump? Perhaps I know her or him. Any sports information from last year, like who won the InterPlanetary Soccer Tournament last year? Perhaps one of you is a sportsfan and looked it up? Anything, Commander?" (reply Smithson, Zia, Williams, Kowalski, any) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (USS Spectre - Bridge - ACEO, Ensign Remae Ktell - 15:18) =^= I will send you my results =^= Remae was glad that the Mithrandir had shut down her core and he was looking forward to the results coming in from their Engineer, whatever the name was... they hadn't been introduced. The viewscreen showed the Mithandir's nacelles power down and although it looked strange, it was going to help matters on the station. Sitting at his Engineering panel, the Bajoran had just about enough of waiting but luckily, just at the right time and as if someone had programmed the system to deliver him the good news... depending on how you looked at it, a small blinking light came on. ~ Interesting ~ He stood up and walked over to the Observation Lounge… he was an Engineer after all and anything, even a malfunctioning replicator had to be fixed. (Reply Any, None) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - ACEO, Ensign Remae Ktell - 15:20) He walked in, without knocking and fixed his eyes on the replicator... the sensors had indicated that it was about to come online and start emitting, something, whatever it wanted... could be hot tea, blueberry pie, fish juice... who knew? "Excuse me, I just need to fix that replicator in the corner before you all get covered in something that would ruin your appetite and your day...", he said to the assembled group. He quickly took his own Captain's expression and the CO of the Mithrandir… Remae tried to think but he couldn't place him…he shook his head and walked over to the replicator. Passing one grumpy looking Admiral who paid him scant little attention. (Reply if anyone wants to) "Ah.", he said running his tricorder over the small wall replicator…he opened up the unit and the entire front swung open to reveal the tubes of liquids inside. Replicators weren't all about bringing your beverage or snack into existence from nothing, but some ingredients were stored and easier than wasting power on replication. It all happened a little bit too fast, a bright blue tube, containing a vicious liquid decided it was a good time to separate from the rest of its system, detaching itself at the correct angle to send it's contents high in the air, in a graceful arc directly onto the two assembled Commanding Officers but missing one bemused Admiral. Remae wasted no time in cranking the main valve shut and the liquid aerial display ceased but not before giving both COs a new matching blue colour to go with their red command uniforms. (Reply from Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - Mithrandir FO, Lieutenant Syuvik - 15:21) Syuvik was listening to the conversation when someone interrupted it when he entered the room. "Excuse me, I just need to fix that replicator in the corner before you all get covered in something that would ruin your appetite and your day..." the officer said. Syuvik fixed him for a few seconds and went back to the conversation. He was trying to concentrate but the officer was making too much noise fixing the replicators. "Officer, we are not here to have a good meal, and if I could elaborate any reason why you decided to interrupt our conversation by coming here, I would say you are trying to spy on our talks. I don't know if your captain authorized it, but I know you are bothering me." (Reply Remae, iyw) Syuvik turned at the captain. "Sir, if it's okay with you, I recommend your officer wait until the briefing is done before making those repairs." (Reply T'vhor) (Posted by Nick) (USS Spectre - Science Department, Laboratory 2 – ACSO, Ensign Teverine Tolqu - 15:21) Macbeth answered "Ok" and walked towards the replicator, Teverine looked down and felt embarressed by his appearance,he knew something was wrong with him, yet there seemed to be something inside which fought everystep of the way, it was almost like a part of him wanted to fail.He tried to shake the feeling off, and started to think back to all the hard work and sacrfices he had made to get this far, he was abruptly interupted from his daydream by Macbeth bringing back his tea,and some sort of cake. "Pull up a chair," Teverine took his seat and looked at the cake suspicously never being keen on desserts, he sniffed at it politely and favoured the tea, which brought back stark memorys of the happier times in his past, "There seems to be some to-do up on the Bridge and about three-quarters of an hour ago something seemed to go through the ship kind of 'touching' everyone but aside from Vela, who's telepathic, no one in here felt much more than a sort of a mental knock, then a tingle which lasted maybe a few seconds. Vela's gone off with a migraine though. Mind you, Vela seems to get a headache if you look at her the wrong way so I can't be sure it was the whatever-it-was." Though not entirely sure so much could come so quickly from someones mouth, Teverine noted the slight sarcasm at the end aimed towards Vela. "I'm not sure, I was asleep, though i did wake up with a pounding headache." (reply Macbeth) Teverine watched as Macbeth sipped at her beverage and continued. "Mmm, that's good! Anyway, since Gronk's up on the Bridge and John was fiddling around with something for him, I haven't had a lot to do." Teverine shrugged, never having been to interested in gossip at the best of times and copied Macbeth's actions and took a small bite of the cake, the texture was as he feared, sponge he hated sponge, though he smiled weakly at the memory of his granny's appauling cakes. He noticed Macebth was scrutinzing him and he shifted in his seat slightly under the pressure of her stare. Not sure if it was his facial actions at the cake, or his general appearance, Teverine thought probably both wrly. "How's the tea?" Teverine smiled at her politness, and knew her opinion of him was more than likely deserved. "Delicious, it always takes me back to my home." As soon as he said it, Teverine had a vivid flash of Perra's face and leant forward grabbing his temples in pain. (Reply Macbeth) "I am sorry it will pass, i have been having some headaches recently." (reply Macbeth) (posted by Peter Richards) (Station Echo One Zero - Level F, Section 5 - Corridor outside Cargo Bay – FO, Commander, Andrew Williams – 15:23) The situation was fast becoming out of control as Andrew touched Smithson’s shoulder lightly. “Its okay Alexandra.” He said softly her. (Reply IYW) He looked at Marsh as he turned back to him. Anything, Commander?" As he was the first officer he saw every ones transfer orders when they arrived on board. ~Okay new crew~ “I am not much of a sports fan and I don’t follow InterPlanetary football Tournament but I think it was the Vulcans as the Klingons were too violent in the final match. He paused for a moment thinking about all the new staff. “Okay our new people we have the Smith family on board. From medical there is Ensign Caras, L’Risa. From Tactical is Ensign Smithson, Chief Harper, From Engineering there is Lieutenant Adams and Ensign Ktell. From Science we have Lieutenant Riya, Ensigns Tolqu, Gronk, Linkins and Macbeth as well as Taban. They are the new senior staff any of them ring a bell?” NRPG: If I have forgotten some one I'm sorry RPG: (Reply Marsh) (Reply Smithson, Zia, Marsh, Kowalski, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - SciO, Ensign John Linskens - 15:24) John entered the observation lounge and eyed the room and the people in there for a second. "OK, everybody out!" he said with what he hoped would be a firm enough voice. "Phase incursion in progress in here! It's best if you all leave and leave the sorting to someone who knows what he is doing." John produced his tricorder and started to scan the room. "That's weird," he muttered. "It was there a minute ago. Hmmm, perhaps three." He keyed in commands at fast speed. "Ha!" he exclaimed. "There! You see it? Phase incursion of the fourth level! Right there!" He showed the front of his tricorder around as if to give people the chance to see it for themselves but moved it around too quickly so nobody really could. Then he looked at the tricorder himself again and sniffed. "Well, it was there not that long ago. Did you notice anything? Out of the ordinary, I mean? Not that it matters. Laymen often find it hard to describe the specifics of a given situation so that a professional knows what happened. Oh, you look like a proper fellah," he suddenly changed tack addressing an officer in science uniform. He showed his the tricorder. "Like it?" he asked. "Can't have it. It's mine, made it myself, plugged it into the ship's internal sensor system. Allows me to pinpoint any strange occurrence inside the ship within seconds. So I knew something was amiss here. Can't be too careful about phase incursions. They can really bug.... ehhhh, create problems. You into phase harmonics? Love it myself. Mind you I love a lot of things, temporal distortions, multi-dimensional mechanics, the lot! Anyway, now what about this incursion." John fell silent as he reprogrammed his tricorder. "OK, phase incursion gone but it must have left phase decay. Ahh, there it is!" He moved the tricorder around trying to find the source. "Anyone can link up a tricorder to ship's systems," he said to no-one in particular. "But *I* got my tricorder to direct the internal sensor grid systems. So where my tricorder points, the sensors will be looking. Neat, eh?" John, his gaze glued to the tricorder, took a few steps as if to find his bearings then took a few more steps in one direction. "Ahh!" he exclaimed. "There's the source!" he shouted with a Eureka voice when he found himself staring at the replicator. He frowned, re-checked his tricorder and pointed it away from the replicator. He took a few steps in that direction until he bumped into something. Looking away from his screen, he recognised the man he had bumped into and John quickly smiled at the Vulacanoid before him. "My apologies, Captain. You seem to be ...... Oh, there's another trail." John took a few more steps with his gaze attached to his tricorder until he bumped into something else. That something was wearing a red uniform with blue patches but also Captain pips. "Oh, sorry, Captain. I was following a trail....." As John explained himself he looked briefly at the man then frowned. He brought his mouth close to the Captain's ear as he whipered: "Uhh, Sir? Are you aware that you are wearing blue paint. Blue paint with phase decay particles in it? It might not be too good for your health if you keep wearing that stuff." John sniffed the Captain's skull carefully and audibly. "Blue paint with phase decay particles in it that smells like ... sushi?????" As if stung by a wasp John turned around and looked at the replicator when he suddenly saw the ACEO standing next to it. "Oh, hi, Ktell. You here too? Hmm, might have known that you were somehow involved in all this palaver. OK, how did you get blue paint all over this good captain? Blue paint with phase decay particles? Blue paint with phase decay particles that smells like a gutted fish?" NRPG: Gotta love those silly little things that just keep growing bigger and bigger. Or is that just me? GRIN Oh, and NO phase decay particles were harmed or endured distress during this post. Just like to set the record straight on that one. 8-) RPG: (Reply by all in the observation lounge (iyw), any) (Posted by Adrie Geuken (Station Echo One Zero - Level F, Section 5 - Corridor outside Cargo Bay – COUNS, Ensign, Oggie Marsh – 15:26) Oggie's eyes extended a bit further as the Commander rattled off a number of names, most of which were new to him. Most. But then the eyes returned to their normal position which was quite far out anyway. "I knew a Captain Ktell once at a counsellor symposium. Marvellous man. He was a counsellor too, you know? Ohhh, the times we spent discussing the intricacies of ...... but I am digressing. Mind you, I think he was a Commander then, demoted due to the loss of his ship, I believe. Now what was that ship's name again? It's on the tip of my tongue. ........ OOOOHHH, I know! It was the Spectre!" Oggie blinked a few times. "Now that would be quite a coincidence, wouldn't it? Anyway, do you know if this .... Ensign Ktell is in any way related to my dear colleague Remae Ktell?" Oggie sighed as he abruptly turned and started to walk away, not giving anyone a chance to respond. It was not vitally important anyway But then he stopped and turned around again. "I should have known that Mister Linskens wouldn't be able to stay out of trouble for too long. He seems to be able to pop up whenever there are weird things going on. I saw him about half a year ago, checking up on him and his family..." Oggie snapped his mouth shut then continued: "One and a half years ago," he corrected himself. "This time travel really makes a dog's dinner of it all. SOOOOOO, Jonathan is part of your crew? Hmmmm, my commiserations. It take it he still won't behave? Bet not. But he's a genuine character, that he is." Oggie smiled at his protegee. "You may relax, my dear. These people are indeed friendly." He scanned the group and his eyes rested on the tactical officer. "Well, most of them, anyway. But I guess being a security officer certain things are expected of you....Hmmm, I still think you require a few counselling sessions, my dear." Oggie smiled for a moment then faced the Commander. "I think you should follow me, Commander. There is a certain ...... room two floors below which was created for the sole purpose of data collection about the project and it also has a number of control systems if the primary systems became inoperable. It has a separate power system and computer core. OH, but before you get in, you must swear that nothing of what you see there will be disclosed to anyone, and I mean ANYONE, without prior authorisation from Admiral Girm, the current CINCSCI (Commander IN Chief for Science, CINC's have the highest position in Starfleet). At least he was the current CINCSCI when I last looked. That might have changed now but I doubt it. He was still a very healthily one hundred and sixteen when I met him one and a half ........TWO and a half years ago. Gosh, that time travel really ....." Oggie fell silent for a few seconds. "Now then. Commander, shall we go?" (Reply Smithson, Zia, Williams, Kowalski, any) (Posted by Robbie) (Station Echo One Zero - Level F, Section 5 - Corridor outside Cargo Bay – ACMO, Ens(jg), Zia Kirrin – 15:28) Zia listened, slightly bemused, as Oggie verbalised his musings on the list of names given by Command Williams. They meant nothing to her, but clearly to Oggie some, at least, struck a chord. Eventually he evidently reached a conclusion satisfactory to himself, and smiled at Zia. "You may relax, my dear. These people are indeed friendly. Well, most of them, anyway. But I guess being a security officer certain things are expected of you....Hmmm, I still think you require a few counseling sessions, my dear," he addressed the female who had threatened him. Zia raised an eyebrow and stared at the female erein. ~That one is not friendly,~ she thought. ~I shall keep a watch on her. But Oggie seems satisfied with the information he was given, so I shall simply be ready in case that amnei'saehne starts anything.~ Meanwhile Oggie continued speaking, suggesting that the commander follow him to some room or other two floors down, where he thought there were some control systems for the device or core in the cargo bay. ~I wonder if whatever we find will allow us to return to our own time? If not, I must suppose my position on the USS Keen to be lost. It is not likely that they would keep it open for, how long? More than a year. "Don't even begin to say anything, Admiral.", he said heading for the door - he had a Science Officer to track down, the doors whooshed open on his approach but the Bajoran spun around to face Sevant once more. Unfortunately their first stop - the turbolift - proved to be a failure, due to the systems being off-line. Oggie was visibly discomposed as he realised the alternative would be the engineering access tubes. However, Zia was impressed at how quickly the rotund counsellor dismissed the idea of sending everyone else on without him, and boldly decided to soldier on, requesting only that he should go first. He used the excuse that he preferred to be pushed than pulled, but Zia privately considered him to be nobly taking the forward position in case of dangers. Personally if there were danger around she would have chosen Smithson to go first, but no doubt Oggie had his reasons. Finally they reached the first access tube and with a loud exclamation of "Tally HO!" (which puzzled Zia) he began to climb down the opening, which seemed to shrink almost visibly as Oggie entered it. Then he stopped. "Aaah, Commander?" Oggie said. "My left buttock seems to have become stuck against the back wall. Just a little push this time, if you please." Zia regarded the tube and the top of Oggie's shoulders, just below the entrance. She was puzzling over why they had lost contact with the away team so completely, and what might have caused it. Naturally diagnostics had been run on all the comm systems, with no apparent cause metaphorically putting its hands up and admitting to nixing things. Sitting at her desk, she began inputting the basics of what they knew, as well as what had occurred even if she did not yet know the reason. Slowly she began to scroll through the results, noting some which seemed to bear a resemblance in some way to their current circumstances, and rejecting others which clearly had nothing in common. Then she stopped at a report of something which had occurred some years previously on the Enterprise D. She re-read it carefully, and then made some notes on a PADD. She turned towards Linskens' desk to ask his opinion, then remembered he had rushed off somewhere muttering to himself about.. ~What was it? Yes! A phase incursion!~ A few taps sent a message to Linskens asking him to contact her when he could, and then after a moment's thought she sent another message to Algol, asking it to come to the lab if convenient. She rather thought that the Medusan might well have some valuable input by its very nature. She couldn't see Tolqu from where she was sitting so she also sent a message to his workstation requesting his input if he was available. Cat was primarily a linguist, so she needed input from others who could better judge whether or not what she had found might be relevant. She thought it could be, but it never hurt to have a second, third and even fourth opinion! He frowned and wondered what part of: "I'm not on duty yet so don't go around bothering me in my spare time." was so hard to understand. He sighed and slapped down the screen. This though promised to be an interesting diversion. ~What would a linguist need from me?~ Algol thought. Algol took enough time to switch from Its four-armed but acephalous configuration to a two-armed mode with a head. Humanoids, Algol had found, did not relate well to headless things and, while the Medusan’s energies were housed and maintained within what others would relate to as the Interface Suit’s ‘chest’, Algol’s crewmates seemed to want to make eye contact with the faux head at the top of the housing. Algol wondered what would happen were anyone to discover ‘him’ levitating in just the chest/torso module with no limbs attached… All of the components of Algol’s suit could hover, by means of anti-gravity. This facilitated assembly and reconfiguration without outside help. The entire suit could, when fully deployed, also hover but it could not actually fly — a limitation Algol had accepted despite one half-Klingon engineer’s insistence that it would constitute a disadvantage. Shortly afterward, the Medusan entered Laboratory 2. “How might I be of assistance?” It asked the Ensign. The voice was simulated, but Algol preferred this to ‘possessing’ another sentient being for purposes of conversation… (Reply Linskens, Catriona Macbeth, Tolqu, any) (Posted by Frank) (USS Spectre - Science Department, Laboratory 2 – SciO Ens(jg) Catriona Macbeth - 15:43) Cat had heard the door open and turned to see the Medusan enter. It was wearing its two-armed enviro-suit ~Or should it be 'inhabiting'?~ Cat mused to herself as Algol approached her. “How might I be of assistance?” Algol asked her. The voice, as always, took her a nano-second to adjust to. Since it was a mechanical simulation it had none of the inflections or emotions inherent in the speech of corporeal beings, and as a linguist Cat felt at a slight disadvantage. NRPG: I'm thinking of something along the lines of Stephen Hawkins' electronic speech here, if I'm wrong let me know and I'll repost. RPG: She smiled although she wasn't sure whether that would mean anything to Algol. It did, however, make Cat herself feel more comfortable. It wasn't that she disliked the Medusan - she didn't know it well enough to like or dislike. It was more that she felt a little odd speaking to a mechanical suit, even though she knew there was a living being inside it. The suit was alien enough in appearance not to give the impression of a humanoid (at least, not in the way she had heard that the android, Data, had) and whilst Cat was used to many forms of life encountered during her Starfleet service so far she had yet to encounter anything quite as, well, unique as the Medusan inside its enviro-suit. "I have been doing a search of recorded instances with similarities to our current situation," she said, wondering whether she should ask the Medusan to sit down or not. ~It probably wouldn't make any difference to it,~ she thought. ~But would it be polite to ask? Then again, it's not like this is a formal occasion and surely if it wants to sit down, wouldn't it do so anyway?~ She didn't know, so she continued. Since the .... it was facing Cat, or so it seemed, John assumed that he must have been summoned by Cat too. The why was a bit more difficult to work out. Her being a linguist, it being a fly boy of sorts and John being ..... well John, knower of all and master of none. After a few split seconds John decided to cheat and ask Cat why the bodyless being was there. "Hey, Kiddo!" he said out loud and then slapped the suit as hard on the back as he could. He had heard somewhere that Medusans did not like personal contact, which was kinda weird, since they didn't have bodies anyway, well, proper bodies anyway. So he thought this was as good a time to test that theory as any other. And he wasn't afraid that the Medusan might be upset about it. That was the nice thing of creatures without feelings. You couldn't hurt them. John grinned. "Tin man, Tin man, where is that heart of yours?" he said to the Medusan as way of introduction, although he doubted Algol would know enough of the Earth's classics to work that one out. Then he seemed to snap out of it, and walked over to the two of them, greeting Cat in his customary manner with a "Hey, Kiddo!" This was followed by a hard slap on the back of Algol's suit. Cat knew it was a hard slap because it made such a loud sound. John being John, he didn't leave it there. "Tin man, Tin man, where is that heart of yours?" he said with a grin. (Reply Algol) Before Cat could explain why she'd asked them both there, the door opened yet again and one of the engineers burst in. Then something in the ongoing conversation between the Bajoran and John (if one could call John in full flight a conversation) caught her attention. "Wait! What? Did you say 'phase...' something or other?" she demanded of the engineer, interrupting John without compunction. Several months of John's company had taught her that if left to his own devices he could talk for the Federation on any subject he happened to be interested in at the time. "Because that is why I asked you all here," she went on ruthlessly over any attempt to answer that. "And I'm glad to see you here too, Ensign Err," she added, unable to recall ever having been told the Bajoran engineer's name. "At least, I'm glad if you're willing to help." She gave the engineer a look, meant to imply that he better had be here to help even if that wasn't his original reason for being in the Science Lab. "Anyway," Cat resumed firmly. "I've been looking through the archives for any instances which bear a resemblance and I found this." She pressed a key and the screen on her desk filled with a long and fairly detailed report. Various words, sentences and even the odd paragraph were highlighted showing matches to her search criteria. "Basically, it happened about um, 30 or 40 years ago, on another Federation starship, and in short two crewmembers were involved in what was thought at first to be a transporter malfunction but actually it was later discovered that they were affected by a Romulan phase inverter device. The event bears a certain similarity to what is happening here, but I don't have enough specific knowledge in this field to judge whether or not it really is relevant. So I asked you all here to give your opinions." She smiled at the engineer. "You too, since you seem to be involved." She looked round at her small audience. "Who's going to give his (or its)," she added with a nod to Algol, "opinion first then?" NRPG: What Cat found was a report on the incident which happened in The Next Phase, TNG. RPG: (Reply Ktell, Linskens, Algol, Tolqu, Any) (Posted by Liz) (USS Spectre - Science Department, Laboratory 2 – SciO, Ens John Linskens - 15:48) Before Cat could explain what she felt was so important, the door opened and the blue boy that John had met in the big-wig room entered the lab and started spraying words and a rather sickening smell. Okay, the engineer was wearing the standard gold but after that session in big-wig territory he would always be: The blue boy to John. "You…what was that blabbering about? Phase Decay and Incursions? What does that mean?". John eyed the blue boy for a second then smiled. "So glad you asked, and I'll try to make this as simple as possible but a certain number of braincells will be required, I'm afraid." NRPG: Let's just say that John does not have a very high opinion of 'axle-greasers', aka engineers. He's a bit naughty like that, TOTALLY unlike me, I must add. RPG: "But just ask for a break if I am going to fast for you, OK? Now then, phased matter. Normal matter with a different phase setting. Makes contact with normal matter impossible. But that doesn't mean that normal matter can't react to a change in phase potential. That's an energy capability form and matter is energy so those two will mix if you're not careful. That is unless you have normal matter that reacts with phase potential. With me so far? Good. Now then, replicators. Devices that break down matter in its components and reassemble the resulting matter blocks in a required matter form. Can be anything, as you know, food, clothing, small items as long as you have the 'recipe' to create that item from the components. Unless that material is restricted, i.e. we don't know how to assemble it, like for instance dilithium or latinum. Unfortunately another thing a replicator can't replicate is potential in any way, shape or form. So if you took a 'reading' of a brick flying at high speed, when you recombine it it would be a brick that is standing still. Speed is a potential to move, so a vector quantity and replicators can't work with vector quantities. But the potential field of that vector quantity may still interfere with the working of the machine. Like looking through a pair of steamed up glasses. You see a picture but it will be distorted. Now to get a replicator to work without these disturbances they have installed a filter substance that will allow the proper signals to pass through but absorb all the rubbish." John took a quick gasp of air before continuing. NRPG: Now we get to the proper technobabble. Gotta love the technobabble. 8-) RPG: "This filtering buffer is an amorphous polycrystalline liquid. I know, amorphous and polycrystalline can't be used in the same sentence because they are opposites but there are one or two materials out there that are amorphous AND polycrystalline. And one of them is complex Z, which is a blue liquid that can change its polycrystalline lattice structure depending on the energy or potential that it absorbs. Perfect buffer therefore. Unfortunately sometimes it does not get the chance to radiate out the energy that it absorbed. In a replicator that was done on purpose by the usage of a monoclinic crystalline lattice compound with a specific Eigen Frequency as material for the container for Complex Z. So Complex Z IN container, not a problem. OUTSIDE of container, plenty problems abound. Suddenly the contained amount of potential of whatever nature would come into contact with normal matter, most likely air particles on ships and planets. The air particles suddenly jump forward or get supercooled or in this case get phased. But because the potential field is very small and the time of interaction normally small, the particles are only partly phased. But enough to change their energy contents, like rotational energy, potential energy and thermal energies. All are going to be off centre a little bit. And since we have a phasecloak generator on board I decided it best to install a little subroutine that continuously checks for the existence of these changed particles, denoting that we would have a phase leak or we are encountering an unknown phase field. Now, if YOU had been a good blue boy and discarded the liquid carefully, nothing would really have happened unless at the liquid-air interface which is going to be a very, very, very minuscule effect. But instead you splashed the liquid over as wide an area that you could manage so there was quite a lot of interacting, which my sensors picked up as they should do. So they scream phase incursion in progress, which is right. They didn't know it was all caused by a blue boy. There WAS a phase incursion in progress and YOU were the cause, not me. Oh, by the way, Complex Z is totally inert in contact with skin, thanks for asking." John sniffed and was getting ready for the 'killing blow' when Cat interfered. "Wait! What? Did you say 'phase...' something or other? Because that is why I asked you all here. And I'm glad to see you here too, Ensign Err," she added, getting a snort from John. She was right about the name too. "Anyway," Cat resumed firmly. "I've been looking through the archives for any instances which bear a resemblance and I found this." "Basically, it happened about um, 30 or 40 years ago, on another Federation starship, and in short two crewmembers were involved in what was thought at first to be a transporter malfunction but actually it was later discovered that they were affected by a Romulan phase inverter device. "It would have to be established that in the case when the abnormal errors take place, the phase difference measurement accuracy decreases drastically, if the method of rectangular waves is in use, while the accuracy remains the same practically, if the maximum a posteriori probability method is applied. We could detect the frequency and possibly contact them." Tolqu suddenly said, making John jump a bit. He hadn't seen the fellow scientist join the group. But what he said made sense to John. Unfortunately John felt he knew better. "I think it would work if the phase field would be of constant strength and potential build up. But the measurements that I have seen suggest that the phase is shifting. Something else is behind the phase field, pulling its strings so to speak. Now I know that there should not be any interaction between phase fields and temporal mechanics so you can shoot me for suggesting it but A we are near a temporal abnormality and B we are near a shifting phase field. BOTH seem to be linked to the station nearby. WE are not phased at least not so phased that we can not receive information and communications from further afield. WE can still teleport from one ship to another. But once some of us get close to the station, it is curtains. No, I think we will find all answers that we seek on the station." John looked over to Cat and Teverine. "I think that we should be able to rig up a number of phase induction coils that could be used to envelop a person and protect the wearer against any impending phase fields by outsignalling that field. And if we include a few control buttons the wearer could move through the phase potential fields to either make contact with the phased crew already on the station or maintain direct communications with this ship by changing the phase field around him." John snorted. "This is, of course, all conjecture and the coils may not work and anyone stupid enough to do it could find all of his atoms smeared out over time and phase, but I am pretty sure that we can make them work. But I doubt, without a six month prior study, any of the big-wigs would ever allow us to test it." John looked around the group and made sure he made eye contact with them all, apart from Algol. But he stared hard at the chest portion of the suit, since that was the most logical place for the entity to be. "Now then, who'll go with me? Looking at her idea, he quickly transferred his data onto a PADD and walked towards her. He may well of felt down, or appeared unkempt, but Teverine knew his job and revelled in it at times. Typing on his PADD Teverine quickly worked on the probability density functions which could derive estimations of phase incursion and frequency shift that could be realized by the method of rectangular waves to contact the away team and see if Macbeth's idea was valid. Transffering his findings back to her station, he walked towards her, nodding to Macbeth as she read his update. Seeing that Algol was already there he quickly updated Algol's PADD with his findings. "It would have to be established that in the case when the anormal errors take place, the phase difference measurement accuracy decreases drastically, if the method of rectangular waves is in use, while the accuracy remains the same practically, if the maximum a posteriori probability method is applied. But I doubt, without a six month prior study, any of the big-wigs would ever allow us to test it." Teverine held the stare of his superior, here he was in his element, his headache had been comletley forgotten in the moment, and now his brain whirled with ideas. He had no doubt that they could have the coils up and working is was only a modification on existing data. What concerned him was the detecting how the phase incursion if it was so, was so localised. Linskens was correct, how could they still beam safely, it didn't add up. ~We need something to detect them~ "Now then, who'll go with me? Just so I know how many phase coil sets we have to prepare?" "I could set up a Faraday Mirror." (Reply any) "A Faraday rotator is a magneto-optic device, which is exposed to a magnetic field. The magnetic field lines have approximately the same direction as the beam direction, or the opposite direction. If the light is linearly polarized in some direction, this polarization direction is continuously rotated during the passage through the medium. If the crew are stuck in a phase incursion, I can set our Tri-corders to at least detect where they have been and gone, it will like be like looking for flurecsent paint with a uv light in effect." (Repy Any) (posted by Peter Richards) (USS Spectre - Science Department, Laboratory 2 – SciO, Ensign John Linskens - 15:55) "I could set up a Faraday Mirror." John cocked an eyebrow and nodded pensively as Teverine explained the workings of the device. When the ACSO had finished, John smiled. "But can you make sure it will track the right people?" he asked. "Remember that as far as we know and can assume, the crew of that station are going to be out of phase as well. And there will be many more signals from station-crew then from our own team. You would probably run the batteries dry before we can make contact with our crew. Unless we are very, very, very lucky and so far I can't really say that any team that I have been on was that particularly lucky." John grinned for a second before continuing: "That reminds me, we're going to need powerpacks, and plenty of them. Phase-fields use an extraordinary amount of power. Then of course backpacks to carry the coils and powerpacks in, oxygen supply because when we are phased we won't be able to use that much of the available air. Well, that is worst case, of course, depending on the extent of the station phase field. But we have to make sure we pack everything that we are going to need. We won't be able to jump back that easily." John looked at the others, hoping they understood his meaning. Once they would have set off, they would have to stay on the station until they had sorted out the mess. Ensign Linskens practically began to list their requirements while they were on the station and while they would be out of phase. "Very well.", he said as he began to head out of the door, when questioning eyes were upon him, he simply said, "You have a lot of work to do and some of these items are available in Engineering, I will go and procure them for us.", as the doors opened in front of him…"Was there anything else needed?", he said as he waited for any other requirements and requests to come forward. (Reply from any in the Lab) "Here's a question for you all, who is going to ask the CO about this?", he said and then added, "Unless you were thinking of wandering off the ship without permission?." The question hung in the air, the group had a plan but no authority to move forward and let alone leave the ship and head down to the station. (Reply from Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre - Science Department, Laboratory 2 - Scio, Ensign John Linskens - 15:59) "Was there anything else needed?", Remae asked. John thought for a second. "Well, the usual stuff, I suppose. Torches, repair kits and so forth. It would be nice if we could actually do something on the station rather than twiddling our thumbs. Oh, and could you get me a rod of tripotasodium? About a metre long and an inch thick, I would think. OH, and a hot cappuccino, please, with ginger biscuit on the side. No, wait. You're going to replicate that, won't you? In that case no coffee for me. Not until I have every replicator on this ship checked and cleaned." John showed the engineer a cheesy and broad grin and let the others come up with their wishes. (Reply from any, all in the Lab (apart from John, of course)) "Here's a question for you all, who is going to ask the CO about this?", Remae asked and added, "Unless you were thinking of wandering off the ship without permission?." There was quite a long silence before John cleared his throat. "Well," he started slowly, " It would be relatively simple to get a shuttle for a spatial survey. Say to examine the extent of the temporal fields? Those measurements are always best done up close and personal. That is, if the right person with the right position were to request that flight, of course." John eyed Teverine for a second. Teverine was of course a designated Assistant Science Chief who could authorise a survey mission whereas John was only a 'lowly' science officer. Notwithstanding the fact that when John had been made an assistant chief, he had hated it with a passion, taking his mind off all that interesting scientific research just so he could do a bit more paperwork. "I can then always reprogram the shuttle for a simple on board failure that will drift us to the station and capture us in its field. So the how is simple. The whether or not is tricky and everyone should make that decision for their own. I personally know that if anyone can help our people on the station it is going to be us, with our experiences and out of the box thinking. However, I am afraid that if we let the brass make the decision for us, the response will very likely be negative. They'll make all the right points, of course, like unknown dangers and losing two teams instead of one and so forth. But at the end of the day, if we *really* want to help the poor buggers on the station then it is imperative that we go. And we can be a lot more certain that we go by not asking the big wigs." ~And have a LOT more fun,~ he concluded the sentence in his head. John grinned. "So my vote says let's do some experiments in space and we will see where we end up." (Reply from All, any) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (USS Spectre - Science Department - Laboratory 2 - SciO, Ensign(jg) Catriona Macbeth - 16:02) John had given the engineer a 'shopping list' but declined any replicated food pending a check and clean on the replicators. Cat frowned. She couldn't imagine going on any kind of trip without food supplies. ~I'd be starving in half an hour!~ "I'll see what I can scrounge from Ten Forward in the way of food," she said. "And perhaps there's a supply of emergency rations somewhere that no one will miss for a while." She also planned to bring along her own stash of chocolate. Nothing like a bar of chocolate as comfort food. And Cat suspected that comfort food might be a necessity sooner or later. (It usually was for her.) (Reply any/all in the Lab) The Bajoran was about to leave, then turned back, asking the one question no one had yet addressed. Whether or not they were going to actively seek permission to go. There was quite a long silence before John (of course) spoke out, suggesting that they might take a shuttle for the purposes of a spatial survey to examine the extent of the temporal fields, with a significant look at Tolqu, who (Cat knew) as ACSO could authorise such an expedition. John continued with a justification and ended by saying with a grin: "So my vote says let's do some experiments in space and we will see where we end up." Cat nodded. It made sense. "That works for me," she said calmly, trying to ignore the voice that told her she might be whistling her career down the plughole. "I think if there is a chance we can help our fellow crew on the station, we have a duty to go. We can face the music afterwards. I vote with John." Her eyes fixed on the ACSO, she added, "Anyone else?" She rather thought John would go with or without authorisation from anyone at all and she fully intended to accompany him, but she hoped that Tolqu and the others would come along as well. (Reply from Tolqu, Algol, Ktell, any) (Posted by Liz Geuken) (USS Spectre - Science Department - Laboratory 2 - ACSO, Ensign Teverine Tolqu - 16:02) Teverine listened as Linskens start to prepare a list, wondering how things had moved on so fast. "Here's a question for you all, who is going to ask the CO about this?", Remae asked and added, "Unless you were thinking of wandering off the ship without permission?." ~A sensible question~ Teverine shuddered at his last great idea that had gotten him into trouble, even though himself and one of the councillors onboard a shuttle had helped rescue the Spectre from the depths of a forbidding sea, he still recalled his dressing down for leaving his post where his Captain had ordered him to stay. "Well it would be relatively simple to get a shuttle for a spatial survey. Say to examine the extent of the temporal fields? Those measurements are always best done up close and personal. That is, if the right person with the right position were to request that flight, of course." Linsken’s eyes trailed towards Teverine, who snapped out of his previous exploits on board the Spectre and almost started to nod his head in disapproval as Linsken continued. But at the end of the day, if we *really* want to help the poor buggers on the station then it is imperative that we go. And we can be a lot more certain that we go by not asking the big wigs." Teverine was shocked at this Ensign’s regard toward leaving the ship, yet in the heat of the moment he had forgotten his own personal feelings, but he felt the gnawing at the back of his mind begin, but now was not the time for his own problems, this is why he felt clearer, he had to keep himself busy more, he quickly concluded. But before he could voice his disapproval Macbeth began. "I'll see what I can scrounge from Ten Forward in the way of food and perhaps there's a supply of emergency rations somewhere that no one will miss for a while." ~How long do they think we are going for ?~ Teverine was baffled and slightly irrated at their speed, he liked to think things through, look at ever angle. As Macbeth stopped, Teverine could not be silent any longer. “Certainly not, the Captain is still on board and we will ask his permission, we are Starfleet officers not cowboys of on a merry mission of fun Ensigns. Peoples lives are at stake, and we are science officers, let’s get our facts right first and see what impact we can contribute too before we go leaping into any situation.” Teverine’s biting words, where not meant to be cruel, but a sharp reminder of where they were and what was at stake. Hoping to salvage something Teverine continued. “But there is no point going to him with a half cocked plan. Let’s get everything in order first before we even think of leaving the ship. Lenkens continue with your afore mentioned plans, Macbeth can you assist me in recalibrating the tri corders, if it can be done, then least we can offer the Captain is some help in finding the others on the station. Once we have a valid plan all of us will report our findings to the Captain, agreed ?” (Reply Any) (Posted by Peter Richards) (The Phoenix - Dalvos Rime, Space Station Dalvos II – Perra Tolqu - 16:03) Perra wiped her knife clean on the back of his shirt, the Captain slumped forward without ever knowing what had happened, she grinned in the dark room as the lamp rolled on the floor, casting eerie shadows around his cramped quarters. As her silloutte bounced off the room, she looked around quickly for the small compartment her contractor had told her about. Reaching into her back pocket she brought out a small scanner and efficiently swept the room, detecting the increase in density behind the small bookcase above his desk which clearly showed a hidden section built within the bulkhead, Perra threw the books aside, feeling with her hands she felt the latch and pressed it gently. As the false panel opened she nodded her head, such old school tricks where not even worth this, no dampening field, no alarms, she sighed, people where just getting to sloppy nowadays.Again reaching behind into another one her many pockets Perra attached two small devices on the hinges of the safe, stepping back so as not in inhale the fumes, Perra watched the smoke rise as the acidic compound ate away the metal. Slowly she eased out the door, and gingerly picked up the data crystals, placing these sensitive documents away, this was the final completion of her mission, this wayward captain would no longer be able to bribe any officals, well certainly not the ones who where in contact with Perra's employees, his actions had brought some unwanted attention, to plans laid out by far more concerned parties. She glanced at the prone form of the now dead Captain and smirked again. ~ The fool, did he really think he could get away with anything being so puny ~ Her smirk turned to a sneer, savagely kicking his body she whiped a small amount of spittle from the corner of her mouth before she let her temper cool. Opening a bag nearby she grabbed the rest of the contents of the safe and without looking shoved the lot into the bag. Closing her eyes she focused, using the small implant on her eyelid, and by directing her eyes in certain movements she quickly replayed to her own ships computer nearby to prepare for immiediate departure. Quickly checking her appearance in a nearby mirror before walking out of the Captain's office and headed towards the crew quarters, there she would plant the bag of stolen items, on some unwitting patsy. She had selected her victim previously, looking through the crew manifest she had found a crew member with warrants from a previous system for violent thieft. It should take the authorities no time to search his quarters, with a smile she headed down the corridor towards the turbolift. Perra had picked today as she knew the ship was having a complete overhaul, probably thanks to the Captain's new found wealth from his nefarious cargo, ignored no longer by officals already under pressure from the Orion Syndicate. Perra casually nodded to any passing crew or workmen as she made her way through the ship. Her mind turned to her husband as she appeared to amble with ease about the ship. Unbeknown to any one they walked amongst a killer. ~ It should be about now that Teverine should start doubting his convictions ~ Perra had previously used the Spectre's own system to transmit subliminal messages to him, softening him up, she had used all her resources and continued this without his knowledge whilst he was on leave on Earth. As far as he knew he spent his time in his quarters, he had made it almost too easy, he had no friends to speak of, so no one missed him whilst on leave, now she would wait as he slowly started to destroy his own career, then she would destroy every part of his life before ending it. Snapping out of her reverie, she looked around before entering the crew quarters, soon she would be on her way back, maybe it was time to pay a quick visit home, everything would soon be over, and she wished to see her son, the only thing that came from Teverine she did not detest. (reply none) (Posted by Peter Richards) (Station Echo One Zero - Deck 15, Section 6 - COUNS, Ens Oggie Marsh – 16:04) "Oh dear," Oggie said for the umptieth time as he placed a foot on the metal floor of deck 15. He grunted as he tried to stretch and wondered if you would get a medal for all the bruises he had acquired during the decent. He stepped away from the ladder to allow the others to descend and waited until all had safely made it. "Come on, come on," he hurried them when he thought they had taken too long. "OK, we now need to go to sector 8, which is ....." Oggie turned around to get his bearings. He studied the corridors which all looked to be the same to him. "That way!" he exclaimed as he took a few steps into one direction, only to return. "Hmm, no, that way!" Again he set off for a short while before turning back. "Nope, that wasn't it, either. Uhhhhhhh ......." Oggie stared at the walls in silent contemplation until he suddenly beamed. "That way!" he said loudly as he pointed into another corridor. "And this time I am sure. See that sign over there? The one that says Food Recycling Unit this way? That's where we going. The food recycling unit. It should be ok now. Not stinking, I mean. Seeing that this station is powered down for a considerable time, apparently. So the unit wouldn't have been in use for quite some time. So the smell should be gone, right?" (Reply by all, any) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (USS Spectre - Science Department - Laboratory 2 - SciO, Ensign John Linskens - 16:06) "Agreed ?” John snorted. "No," he simply said, looked at the ACSO and shrugged. "*We* don't have time to do it all by the book. No, let me rephrase that. The away-team may not have the time to have it all done by the book. We don't know what's going on there and they have been gone for quite a while. They may be fine, they may be in trouble. Truth is, we don't know. And we won't know until we get down there and find the poor blighters. But how is the plan half-cocked? We have everything covered. Going down, stop the phase field from affecting us, find the others in their phase, make contact and or rescue them and we return. How much more of palaver do we need to do a simple task. OK, the phase coils may not work. Unlikely, but possible. But we will find that out even before we land on the station. As soon as we enter the phase field, we will lose communication. One of us will use the coils to counteract that on him- or herself, report to the ship with his or her communicator, turns the phase coil off, report to us and we can then proceed or turn back, depending on the message having gotten through. As I said, simple. The provisions and the other stuff is there if something happens that we didn't expect or something else went pear-shape. We *know* there is going to be a difficulty of some sort, there always is if you haven't noticed, so we take that into consideration. But we DO have all our bases covered and if the plan isn't planned with military precision, tough. Military precision planning only keeps two people busy anyway, the military planner at the start and the PR-guy at the end to iron it all out and pretend it was all supposed to happen that way. We can use our time better than that." John took a deep breath. "OK, how's this for a deal. You contact the CO straight away or as soon as as he may still be in that silly meeting and give him the short mission brief. Then we will see if he thinks we should be stopped or not. In the meantime we will continue with our preparations as you suggested and we will get ready to leave by 6 o'clock at the latest. Time may be of the essence here. Ok?" John shot him a brief smile. "Sir?" NRPG: It should be well documented by now that John has one or two niggling little issues, one is about marines and another one about people in authority. He means well. Teverine only saw red, he barely held his anger in check, and Teverine felt the palms’ of his hands crackle with excessive energy. He thought one quick grasp and he could end this Ensign’s life, explode his heart in a second, he held the power of life or death in his grasp, and this Ensign didn’t even know how close he was to loosing his life. Linskens’s last comment was lost on Teverine; he was mentally picturing tearing out this man’s heart. Never had Teverine felt anger like this, it shocked and scared him, never had he shown any such lack of respect to his superior officers, he then suddenly felt a sudden jolt of realization, and guilt. This Ensign was only showing what he had been feeling welling up on Teverine in his alone time. Teverine knew the group was looking at him for his response, but still could not stop himself shaking from anger, he knew also small flashes of blue energy where crackling from his palms, from the look on some of the crew, he thought they fully expected Teverine to leap over the desk at any moment. If anyone here knew Ornaran’s when they are ready to fight they keep there hands open wide, unlike most races that clenched their fists. Teverine stood rigid, in his unkempt uniform barely keeping himself in check, and yet at the same time, he almost felt he was looking at himself from a distance, surrounded by crew members, displaying a total lack of composure that put him in the same position as Linkens’s show of obvious disrespect for a superior who was only trying to follow protocol and procedures, even though Teverine himself was starting to doubt them. Macbeth quickly moved over to intercede and attempt to cool the situation, (Reply Macbeth) Teverine’s thought’s still whirled at this Starfleet member’s obvious disregard for protocol, if every crew member did as they felt, the place would be in a shambles, Teverine struggled to listen over the beat of his heart in his ears. Before he tried to answer with some kind of composure. “Linkens upload all relevant data to my tri-corder and I’ll submit the idea to our Captain before we make any rash decisions, secondly I will ASK.” Highlighting the word in the middle to try and drum some sense into this Ensign about Starfleet rules he continued. “If we can proceed with our away mission at 18:00,” Changing the subject slightly, Teverine looked to Ensign Ktell. “Ensign Ktell if you would like to accompany me. I would appreciate your input and assistance talking to the CO.” Already Teverine was planning on using Ktell to speak to the Captain about Linskens’s behaviour. He would ask him on the way to see the Captain. But from his previous statement Teverine felt Ktell was a believer in starfleet rules and protocol. NRPG: Ummmm Adrie telling dad on you for picking on me J hahaha. Love to see a dressing down from our Vulcan captain while you argue back will be fun J (though I know I am about to get it for my unkemptness hahaha) lose lose for me win win for Alan ! She had expected that John would not be too happy about it, and had not been surprised to find herself correct. Whilst not a model of tactfulness, however, John's reply had been quite polite by John's standards, although Cat had to admit to herself that John's standards were not always your average Starfleet officer's standards. So it surprised her that Tolqu, instead of responding to John, merely stood there, staring at Linskens, apparently almost literally shaking with what she could only suppose to be anger, given the small flashes of energy crackling over his palms. ~Sjeesh, between him and John it's like being a kindergarten teacher in here sometimes!~ Before the situation could descend into either tragedy or farce, Cat spoke sharply. "That seems reasonable, John. Tolqu, I think you should go and see if the CO will grant us permission, whilst the rest of us get things read for the off if he gives it." ~And if he doesn't I bet John will go anyway, not sure about the others but we'll see...~ "After all, as John said, time may well be of the essence. And when you come back, we will get the rest of the tricorders recalibrated." There was a pause before Tolqu spoke again, but when he did it was to suggest that John uploaded their plan to Tolqu's tricorder for him to present to the CO together with a request for the mission to depart at 1800. He then asked Ktell to accompany him. Cat turned away with a small sigh. Sometimes she missed the boredom and sameness of the academic life, but not usually for more than a second or two. She shook her head, picked up a tricorder, brought up the schematics of a farraday mirror on her computer-screen, and began to work out how best to recalibrate the tricorder. (Reply any present, any) (Posted by Liz) (Station Echo One Zero - Deck 15, Sector 8, Food Recycling Unit – COUNS, Ens Oggie Marsh – 16:14) Unfortunately Oggie was wrong. As soon as they had forced the door to the unit open, a foul stench wafted along them, making Oggie gasp for air. Luckily the feeling of nausea lifted after the stale and smelling air had been refreshed with air from the outside and Oggie stretched his body again with a grunt. But even if someone had offered him a seat there and then, he would have refused it, even if his feet were painful. His buttocks were by far more painful that his feet ever could be. So he soldiered on with a grim expression on his normally blissful face, his only salvation being a state of unconsciousness. "Right then. There should be a panel here somewhere, hidden behind the control panel of the unit. Ahh, I think I have found it. Now press, wait a second and saying the secret password." Oggie bent down, grunted, pressed the hidden button and stood up. "The doors in Spain are mainly made of ..... timberwood!" For half a second nothing happened but then the panel slid down into the floor, revealing an unlit and narrow corridor. "Quickly" Oggie coaxed his followers as he entered the corridor with hastened steps. Just as the least person entered the corridor the panel shot up, removing all light from the corridor until e few small red lights flickered along the corridor. "This way, this way," Oggie exclaimed, as if there was more than one way to go in the dark corridor. He followed the corridor for about half a minute then stopped in front of another panel. Oggie pushed a button on the side of the panel. "The doors in Spain are mainly made of ..... grain!" With a hiss the panel slid down, revealing a circular room of about six meters diameter, with the centre of it filled with computer systems and a few chairs, and the walls filled with panels all bristling with flickering lights of different colours. (Reply by all, any) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (Station Echo One Zero - Deck 15, Sector 8, Food Recycling Unit – ACMO, Ens(jg) Zia Kirrin – 16:15) It had taken almost 45 minutes of climbing down the access tubes (enlivened with the frequent need to give Oggie a helping shove, mostly with feet) and walking up and down various corridors, to end up in a stench which made Zia wrinkle her nose and wish for nose-plugs. Sighing, she pulled out a handkerchief and used it to breathe through. It didn't help much but luckily the stench dissipated as the door to the unit stayed open. Oggie searched the unit, muttering to himself about something hidden behind the control panel, then with a grunting effort he suddenly bent down, pressed something then stood up again. "The doors in Spain are mainly made of ..... timberwood!" he declaimed. After a moment there was a slight swishing noise and the whole panel slid downwards into the floor. Peering around Oggie's not inconsiderable bulk, Zia saw yet another corridor, this one very narrow and completely unlit. They all followed him in as he urged them to hasten, and as the last one entered, the panel shot up again, leaving them in darkness. But as the panel shut, a few small red lights flickered into life along the corridor. They could not be said to lighten the way exactly but they did make the darkness less complete. Oggie suddenly halted in front of another panel, and Zia, following close behind, almost bumped into him. Someone *did* bump into her, and there were a few mutterings behind her. "The doors in Spain are mainly made of ..... grain!" Oggie declaimed, and again the panel in front of him slid down with a faint hiss to reveal a round room, lit by flickering lights in the wall-panels and some more of the red low-level lights which revealed a bank of computer systems in the middle, and a few chairs dotted here and there around. Oggie stumbled into the room plopped into one of the chairs. "Oh, my goodness!" he exclaimed. "Oh, that hurts! Oh! Ohhhhhhh. Ohhhhhhh, that is nice! There was a lot more light last time I was here," he commented, looking round. "Anybody seen a light switch by any chance?" "Oh, and anyone object to me taking off my shoes?" "You must not take off your shoes!" Zia exclaimed hastily. "Your feet will swell up and you will not be able to get your shoes back on. Besides," she added practically, "your feet will smell. Now if I had more light I could examine you." She looked around in the dim light, but could see no control panel for the lighting. Yet clearly the computer system here was working. "Computer, lights!" she essayed. Rather to her surprise, the ambient lighting increased until it was at normal levels. Zia took a good look at Oggie. His colour was a little on the high side, and he was sweating rather more than the rest of them. Spotting a first aid unit on the wall, Zia went over to it and took it down, returning to Oggie's side. "Are you very much in pain?" she enquired, rooting through the box to see what it contained. "If so I can give you a hypo. But if you are not too much in pain it would be better to let your bruises and muscles heal themselves." (Reply Oggie, room for more) Zia looked around dubiously. "It was very brave of you to bring us all the way down here, Oggie," she said in a low tone, "but me, I am wondering if any of us should touch anything without knowing what we are doing." Unfortunately I have no idea how to access those ways. Need to know and all that. However, I would suggest you investigate the logs first, perhaps they will indicate what has happened here." Andrew nodded. “Okay Ensign let’s give this a try.” As Marsh turned and started to talk to Smithson he moved towards a console. He cautiously tapped in a few commands to see what happened. The security protocols were less as they were in a secure area. He managed to get into the systems main frame. He partially listened to the other conversation as he started to access the logs. ~Okay let’s see what’s going on~ (reply Zia, Marsh, Fala, Smithson, any) (posted by Robbie) (Station Echo One Zero - Deck 15, Sector 8, Surveillance hub – COUNS, Ens Oggie Marsh – 16:18) "You must not take off your shoes!" Besides," she added, "your feet will smell. Now if I had more light I could examine you." Oggie nearly snorted. He had never considered walking around without shoes to be a disadvantage. The smell however might be a valid point. Oggie sighed just as he heard the Medical officer order the computer to turn up the lights. ~Now why didn't I think of that,~ Oggie pondered, and made a mental note to examine his thinking patterns in stressful situations. A glitch like that was not a good sign. "Are you very much in pain?" Zia asked, breaking Oggie's contemplations. "If so I can give you a hypo. But if you are not too much in pain it would be better to let your bruises and muscles heal themselves." Oggie smiled bravely. "I will be fine, my dear." he said with confidence in his voice. " I must admit that all this running around and ladder climbing is not really my cup a tea but it didn't kill me. Perhaps some rest is all that is required. We have after all more pressing matters at hand." Oggie smiled as bravely as he could then looked around the room. He knew from experience that the pain from exercising was never as bad as it would be the day after when all his muscles would launch a painful protest. "It was very brave of you to bring us all the way down here, Oggie," Zia suddenly whispered, "but me, I am wondering if any of us should touch anything without knowing what we are doing." "Oh, my dear, but that is the fun part of exploring, isn't it? The dangers lurking behind that one normal looking button on the control panel in front of you?" Oggie grinned. "On the other hand, my dear, you would do well to place trust in your superiors. Commander Williams did not find his rank-badge at the bottom of a cereal box. You may be sure that Star Fleet must have had good reasons to entrust him and his crew with life and death decisions." Oggie looked around himself until he saw the Commander and studied him for a second. "I am sure that we met him when he was under a lot of pressure so his earlier actions should not be used to determine his worth. If anything, my dear, do not trust him, trust Star Fleet. Talking of trust ......." Oggie swivelled the chair around to face a computer panel and keyed in a few commands. He hmm-ed as he read the information on the screen then turned to Zia. "I am afraid that the time-stamp is confirmed, my dear. We *are* one year in the future." (Reply Zia, any) He gave her a look then turned back to face the Commander. (Reply Williams, any) Oggie nodded at the Commander from his chair then looked further around the room until he saw the female security officer. "Ensign," he called out for her. "I assume that you're name is Smithson, even though we haven't been properly introduced. You wished me to 'spill the beans' previously. Have I satisfied your wish for information? If so, then I would like a return favour. You can be certain that this is a safe place so your activities as Security Officer are not in great need. My need for information, however, is huge. Looking at the new Arrival “Sorry, where am I, this place has me disorientated, I cannot help myself at the moment, let alone you” She said distractedly. (Reply Marsh) (Posted by Paul Davies) (Station Echo One Zero - Deck 15, Sector 8, Surveillance hub – ACMO, Ens(jg) Zia Kirrin – 16:19) Despite Oggie's confident assertion that he would be 'fine', Zia was pretty certain that whatever discomfort he might be in now would be greatly increased the next day and the day after, but there was not much she could do about that at the moment. ~More exercise regularly taken, perhaps, but that is a long-term project I think!~ She smiled to herself as Oggie, having just told her to trust Commander Williams, or more exactly, Starfleet - and then promptly turned round to face one of the computer panels to verify the stardate. "I am afraid that the time-stamp is confirmed, my dear. We *are* one year in the future." Zia nodded unhappily. Given the situation she thought it would probably not be taken well if she announced that her priority was not the malfunctioning device (always supposing it was malfunctioning and not performing exactly as it was supposed to), but getting in contact with her family. ~For it is sure that if they have not heard from me or of me for over a year, they must consider me dead! But how selfish I am - Oggie must also have family who will be missing him too, yet see how brave he is!~ she scolded herself. She gave Oggie a confident smile she was far from feeling. "Then at least we know that some of what we were told by the Commander is true. So we will just have to make the best of the situation," she added stoutly. "I am going to ask that man in the blue shirt," she nodded towards Fala, "who must be Medical or Science, whether he has a medical tricorder, and if not, if we can perhaps modify his to use as one if we need to." As she stepped away towards Fala, she heard Oggie address Williams, but out of politeness did not listen. "Ensign Fala?" Zia said politely. "May I enquire whether you are a Medical or a Science Officer?" (reply Fala) Zia was a little disappointed, but not one to give up easily, she continued: "I am Dr Kirrin, Medical Officer. I was supposed to be assigned to the USS Keen before Oggie and I..." she paused, not sure exactly how they had got here. "Before Oggie and I were thrown here by that strange object in the cargo bay," she continued. "However, I suppose I am just a Starfleet medical officer now, but in the circumstances my exact position is probably not too important. Unfortunately that medical kit over there contains only the very basic equipment; I do not think they envisaged an emergency where the medical officer would be unable to come down here with his tricorder, which was not very far-seeing of them, I think. So I was wondering, would it be possible to reconfigure your tricorder so that I could do a scan on everyone? I would like to make sure that after all our adventures, there is nothing untoward." (reply Fala, any present, any) (posted by Liz Geuken) (Station Echo One Zero - Deck 15, Sector 8, Surveillance hub – COUNS, Ensign Oggie Marsh – 16:21) Oggie examined the TAC/ASC as she was called away to assist someone else and pondered her words. ~Sorry, where am I, this place has me disorientated, I cannot help myself at the moment, let alone you.~ Oggie shook his head. What was going on here? He was certain that the Ensign showed abnormal behaviour as indeed Oggie had done himself when asking for the light switch. ~Something is just not right in this state of Denmark,~ Oggie mused. ~This place, these surroundings. They affect us. Be vigilant, Augustus. Be extremely vigilant.~ Oggie sighed. It would have helped if he knew what he was looking for. Then he snorted. ~Wasn't that always the case? You don't know what you are truly looking for until you have found it.~ Oggie permitted himself a short grin then turned to the console once more. ~If the information doesn't come to Oggie, Oggie will have to come to the information.~ He accessed the computer and studied the general information database. Although these systems were not linked with the station systems, there were a number of spy lines installed so the spy-room system could examine the station systems and their data-streams, which luckily included also the general information network. He read through the items without really reading, just looking, hoping for something to catch his eye, which after a short while it actually did. Oggie frowned and paged backwards and forwards. ~Now that is interesting,~ he remarked to himself then cleared his throat. "Commander, I am accessing the general information network. As it turns out, the last non-station entry was from about one week ago. It looks like the news-feed stopped updating the systems then. I would think because the system was cut off from the universe. May be because the experiment started?" (Reply Williams, room for more) Oggie nodded then turned back to the console as he started searching the general new feeds. It was all standard rubbish, as far as Oggie was concerned. The value of the Latinum bar had temporarily decreased after rumours had spread that a Klingon scientist had found a way to possibly replicate Latinum by using a crystal resonance rectifier, whatever that was. Unfortunately there was no such thing as a crystal resonance rectifier as of yet but the Klingon scientist was confident he could create one in about twenty years that was if he received sufficient funding to continue his research. Oggie shook his head as he paged through the reams of information until he had a bright idea. Using the search function he hunted for specific information. A message popped up, signifying that he found three records that were linked with his search-term. He accessed the first one, then selected the second then the third. Oggie sighed as he read the news-feed about Kirrin. The first message simple stated that she had received a commission as medical officer on the USS Keen, the second message from two weeks later had stated that she had been classed missing in action following her unexplained disappearance from station Echo One Zero and that despite several searches she could not be located. The authorities treated it as possible abduction by persons unknown for reasons unknown. Her relatives had been informed of this. The third one was only sideways related as three months later the USS Keen had been classed as lost with all hands following a crash into an ice planet after a warpjump that had gone horribly wrong. NRPG: I wonder where I got that idea from. 8-) RPG: Oggie looked over top Zia and nearly called her before he shook his head and entered a new search. He frowned as there were no hits and he revised his search several times. Oggie leaned back, closed his eyes and muttered something as he again shook his head. After a final sigh he reversed the search so that Zia's information was showing again then waited for her to come round. The time in between he would be using for some serious thinking. ~I wonder,~ he thought, ~I wonder which git came up with this no news is good news malarky!~ (Reply by Williams, Zia, any) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (Station Station Echo One Zero - Deck 15, Sector 8, Surveillance hub – ACMO, Ensign(jg), Zia Kirrin – 16:33) Having got as much out of Fala as she could, Zia glanced over to where Oggie was apparently engaged in accessing information from one of the terminals. As he appeared to be busy, she wandered around the room, looking at the various panels but being careful not to touch anything she didn't understand, which was pretty much all of it. Various readings streamed across some of the panels, but not knowing what they referred to she just glanced at them and moved on. Finally she came across something she did understand: something that looked very much like a reading of the lifeforms on the station. As expected, she found their own life-signs on Deck 15, and what she guessed must be the marines back up on Level F near the Cargo Bay. As she was about to turn away, however, more readings suddenly appeared on various decks, then vanished again almost as suddenly. Zia frowned and looked at the panel again, but saw only their own readings and those of the marines. ~I must have imagined it,~ she thought. Her stomach rumbled. ~I am seeing things because I'm hungry,~ she thought. ~I wonder if anyone has anything to eat... oh wait, there were some emergency rations in the first aid unit...~ She had left the unit next to where Oggie was been sitting, so she went back over to the seat and began counting the bars. They looked disappointingly small but there were ten of them, and she knew from her academy training that one bar could last you up to six hours. ~I hope the Commander and his team have brought their own,~ she thought, reluctantly closing the box. She supposed that she would be a lot hungrier later on and it was silly to waste what might be their only food supply for a while. Besides, honour dictated that what rations they had should be equally shared. "Did you find anything interesting?" she asked Oggie, who seemed to be deep in thought. (reply Oggie, any) (Posted by Liz Geuken) (Station Station Echo One Zero - Deck 15, Sector 8, Surveillance hub – COUNS, Ensign Oggie Marsh – 16:38) "Did you find anything interesting?" Oggie 'woke up' from his 'deliberations' and looked to his side to see Zia standing next to him holding what looked like .... food? The sight made him remember his grumbling stomach. "Oh, thank you, my dear," he said as he grasped two bars out of her hand, laid one in front of him and unwrapped the other one. He carefully sniffed it after a look at the unappetising looking 'construct'. "Oh, dear," he went again. "Is there no end to the horrors we are to endure here?" he asked more to himself but started eating the contraption anyway. When he finished with the bar, he nodded, peered at the unopened bar in front of him and shuddered. "Sorry," he said in attempt to take his mind off the bar. "You were saying? Interesting? Uhhhh, hmmmm, well, I guess you could say that. But enough about me. I have found three items in general news that concerns you, my dear. I have brought them up on yonder screen." Oggie pointed at the screen in question, then winced as he shifted in his chair to allow her access to it. "You may wish to read them," he said superfluously then fell silent, waiting for the young ensign's reaction. (reply Zia, any) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (Station Station Echo One Zero - Deck 15, Sector 8, Surveillance hub – ACMO, Ensign(jg) Zia Kirrin – 16:40) "Did you find anything interesting?" Zia asked Oggie, politely not looking at the screen he had been perusing. "Oh, thank you, my dear," Oggie said, apparently thinking she was offering food as he grabbed two of the emergency ration bars out of Zia's hand. Zia watched, fascinated, as he unwrapped one of the bars and examined it closely, even going so far as to sniff at it, before muttering something to himself. Reluctantly (or so it seemed to Zia), he ate the bar. He was, however, apparently unable to bring himself to eat the second one. "Sorry," he said to Zia. "You were saying? Interesting? Uhhhh, hmmmm, well, I guess you could say that. But enough about me. I have found three items in general news that concerns you, my dear. I have brought them up on yonder screen," he added, pointing to it. "You may wish to read them," he added, making space for her to do so with a little difficulty. Zia was suddenly not at all sure that she wished to read those three items, but she gave herself a mental shake. ~You are Athansia e-Kirrin Cha'Mirok, v'paenhe of Llairhi Perdan e-Khellian Cha'Mirok and Arahtih Arghylla i'Mhiessan Cha'Mirok. No Rihanna should be afraid to read words written about themselves.~ So she read the three items Oggie had found. The first, a simple statement of her commission as medical officer on the USS Keen, she skimmed. The second, dated two weeks later, contained a report of her unexplained disappearance from the station Echo One Zero and classified her as missing in action. Her disappearance had been treated as a possible abduction 'by persons unknown for reasons unknown', and her family had been informed. Zia could imagine only too well her family's reaction; her father would be pestering every Federation official he could metaphorically (or possibly, she thought wryly, even literally) lay hands on, her mother would be spending half her time calming her father down and the other half contacting all the people *she* knew who might be able to help. Wondering suddenly if she had been declared missing presumed dead eventually, Zia clicked on the third link. She was only slightly relieved that it was a report of the USS Keen having been lost with all hands. "That might have been me..." she whispered to herself. "If I hadn't been taken away like that, I would be dead..." A shaky little laugh escaped her, born of a relief to be alive that she hadn't even known until now she should feel. She supposed she should be sorry for the crew of the USS Keen but it was hard to be sorry for a whole lot of people she had never met, and whose fate she was very, very glad not to have shared. Then something occurred to her and she went back to the second report and read it more carefully. Finishing it, she looked round at Oggie, a slight frown creasing her forehead. "Oggie," she said slowly, "Why are you not mentioned here? They cannot have failed to notice you had vanished too." He was going to be of no help assembling their mish-mash of toys so he may as well get busy doing something worthwhile. He had also volunteered himself to take care of and pilot the shuttle they were going to acquire. Nothing special, but a quick word in the ear of whomever was in duty in the shuttlebay would be required. (Reply Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - ACEO, Ensign Remae Ktell - 17:00) He had the access codes for the shuttle and it was being prepped and also, he had 'borrowed' access to the transporter, in order to move their supplies that were gathering inside the Lab…he had been collecting parts from multiple cargo-bays and now a few of the more delicate parts that were located in Engineering. Noone was bothering him, despite the sack he was carrying on his back that was growing ever larger and despite its red nature. The rod of tripotasodium was proving tricky for the Engineer, it wasn't exactly an item that was kept on each shelf of the storage lockers but he managed to access the specifications of the rod and transfer the pattern to the Engineering Transporter. "What is this?", he said as he keyed in his access codes into the transporter controls… "Wikipedia?", he sighed as he brought the specs of the rod and energised the system. He placed the tube shaped container with the rod inside into his pack and departed without attracting attention or comment. He leant over to Ensign Macbeth, leaving a small packet of Bajoran Chocolate on her workstation, "Call it a hunch.", he said. Dropping the bag containing the last of the supplies ordered into the area where most of the items had been deposited, he began to speak, "The shuttle is ready when we are, I've already completed pre-flight and I have the coordinates of its hold, we can beam whatever we need directly to it.", he said eyeing the group, "When do we leave?", he said now adopting his now familiar lean against something solid as a way of taking the pressure off his legs which were continuing to cause him pain. (Reply from Any in the Lab) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Mithrandir - FO's office - FO, Lieutenant Syuvik - 17:30) The meeting done, Syuvik had a lot of other tasks to take care of. One of them was to get more information about what was going on right now. Despite captain T'vhor has been helpful, providing them with a lot of informations, the change of timeline meant they were not exactly the same person than in their own timeline, and they could ignore how important the change was. It was possible their mission or intention were not friendly and it was therefore logical to double-check those information. For that reason, Lieutenant McKenzie and Lieutenant Briggs have had four hours to gather more information, and that was probably enough to have a better idea what was going on. They had been both asked to come at 1845 at Syuvik office. As he had two minutes, Syuvik contacted Ensign M'elissa. =/\= Ensign M'elissa, You have done well insuring our warp core was not causing any problem, and I approve your decision. Now, in the upcoming hours, it is critical we have a better idea what is going on. I have already put Lieutenant McKenzie and Lieutenant Briggs in charge of that aspect. What I expect of you, as Chief Engineering, is to have a complete evaluation on what kind of energy and propulsion systems we can use. For example, according to your own report, the USS Spectre engineering asked you not to shut down the warp drive but the warp core. It is surprising but not unsound it is the latter that cause problems. I would like you to investigate that and determine if we can use warp, and what speed of warp.....Also, I require a more complete report on the power consumption considering we will not be able to use our warp core. =/\= (Reply M'elissa) Syuvik resumed. =/\= Needless to say, some of this task will also involve the science and operation departments. You, Lieutenant McKenzie and Lieutenant Briggs would need to work together and keep yourselves updated on the founding of your respective departments. (Reply M'elissa) =/\= That is all. =/\= (Reply M'elissa) As the communication ended, Syuvik received the two chief of department. "Hello Lieutenants. Sorry to have kept you waiting, Please, take a seat." Syuvik waited for them to sit before resuming. "I know four hours is very little and have probably rose more questions than answers it, but I've already explained a few times that the situation ask for constant update. So, misters, if you have any new findings, hypothesis or facts you, I will be glad to listen to them." (Reply McKenzie and/or Briggs) (NRPG: the next sentence happen later in the discussion.....just to gain some time) "According to captain T'vhor, it could be related to a station. Some of his crew members has disappeared there, but the station is for the moment only a logical location to investigate, and we are too far away to get any information from here. However, it was clear from T'vhor choice of words than this temporal anomaly wasn't an isolated incident. There seem to be a general problem here, and until we solve it, assuming it could be solved, more problems or anomalies could come. I think one of our priority is to establish the extension of the anomaly. We could then travel to a vector out of this aphysical phenomena." The away mission preparation would have to be quick. They couldn't wait too long as the more they waited, the higher the risk of timeline contamination. Furthermore, the USS Spectre was already ready to send its away mission, and the USS Mithrandir had no choice but to catch up. There will have to be a lot of work done in a very short time, but both Syuvik and Will knew the crew had the skill to keep such a high pace. Syuvik contacted everyone part of the away team. =/\= Ensign M'elissa [...] (NRPG: Don't want to name you all), this is Lieutenant Syuvik. Following the senior staff meeting with the USS Spectre, both command have decided to send an away mission on the station. There will be a meeting at 1900. Captain Alexander will first address us, and then I will resume the meeting. It will be a brainstorming meeting. Another meeting will be held later tonight, probably at 2100. I want you all to make the necessary research on our mission and on the temporal phenomena to have useful advice during the first meeting. This will be all. =/\= Syuvik ended the communication. With the temporal anomaly and temporal phenomena happening in the area, time was even more problematic. There was a high risk that going on the station would make them face other temporal problems. If it was already clear they could not beam there, but would have to use a shuttle that would travel an impulse speed, there was no guaranty it would be enough to prevent another time travel. If indeed the shuttle was pull backward or forward in time, they would have to find a way to warn the USS Mithrandir. He felt lucky - the civil war had caused officer shortages in all areas. His was a limited commission - like those used in the old U.S. Navy. He would never rise above a CEO but he didn't care. Hank was amazed that even in the 24th century the gulf between enlisted and officers still existed. He had to keep some distance between himself and his enlisted personnel. This was especially hard for the former NCO. His thoughts were interrupted by the summons from the FO. =^= Lieutenant McKenzie, Ensign Stevens. (Reply Any) (Posted by Bill West) (USS Mithrandir - FO's Office - Mithrandir FO, Lieutenant Syuvik - 17:43) As the two officers arrived, Syuvik lost no time to explain the reason he called them. "Lieutenant McKenzie, Ensign Stevens. As my away team is getting ready, I need you to take care of one task related to the away team. Considering the potential temporal instably of the area, there is a high enough risk that the shuttle we will use to go there might be affected by another temporal anomaly and travel backward or forward in time. The probability of such an event is probably inferior to 50%, but the risk are there and we can't underestimate them. What I want from both of you is to find a way for the shuttle to be able to warn the USS Mithrandir if it happened. I think there is an Earth expression that illustrate it well : 'message in a bottle'. I want you to find a way to create a bottle that could contain a message and that the shuttle could drop and that could be recovered several hours, months or years later by the USS Mithrandir in the case the shuttle had traveled backward in time. The same bottle will be dropped by the USS Mithrandir in case the shuttle was sent not backward, but forward in time just in case the shuttle sensor were unable to detect the time change. Also, be prepared to have to find a way to bring our shuttles back into our timeline if the temporal change happened. I know we doesn't have the technology to timetravel, but in the bottle, the message will contain all the information you will need on the temporal anomaly so that you can use it to bring them back using the temporal anomaly itself to achieve it, if it is in our means. I am aware most of this task will mostly be completed only when we will receive the bottle, if there is indeed a time change. But there is certainly a few things you could already prepare ahead of time. For example, I'm sure the shuttle is not equipped with all the necessary equipement that could be required to achieve the travel back. It could be necessary to install it so that the shuttle have the means." Syuvik examined the reaction on their face. He wanted to know if what he asked seemed impossible or simply challenging. Truth was he wasn't an engineer and he wasn't exactly sure if his request was possible. "There are a couple of possibilities. The shuttle could try to slung shit around a star. The urger option is to generate chronoton particles ans open a door so to speak. The calculations are complex" Hank added. Syuvik analysed Hank proposition for a second. "The situation is such that we will have to remain simple. We don't know if the shuttle will not face any problem. If the USS Spectre away team has disappeared, it might be for a reason, and has they have not warned us, it might be for the worst. Therefore, in this case, I prefer a cautious measure. I want something that could be done within a few minutes so even if the shuttle meet some serious problem, they would nevertheless give us, the away mission, the time to warn the Mithrandir. So, in fact, I was thinking more of the like of an object that could remain at it's actual position for several years or hundred of years and that the USS Mithrandir could find if there was a spacetime anomaly. However, to be sure no one find it before them, it would have to be hidden in such a way that only a ship looking for it could find it. As for the message, I was thinking more in term of isolinear chip. Something we can place in the bottle and that would give the most data possible on what the shuttle has found out. But the bottle is only an idea, and if you have better idea that would meet my request, I would be more than open to listen to them" (Reply Hanks) Syuvik apprehended that the next request could create some reaction. "Esnign, according to our actual schedule, the away mission will be send at 2100. So you have mostly three hours to meet my request. However, I am conscious I am asking a lot for so little time so if despite your best efforts you were not able to meet my demand, I would understand and would not hold it against you. Extraordinary circumstances ask for extraordinary measure or, in this case, extraordinary request." (Reply all) Syuvik nodded. "You are dismissed." (Reply: any present) (Posted by: Bill W.) (USS Mithrandir - FO Office - Lieutenant Ayehla Zyahn - 18:25) For a rare time, Ayehla was faced with very unclear orders. The situation was such that caution was on everybody's lips, including the one of Syuvik. The USS Spectre was normally a friendly ship, as any Federation ship would be, but being in another reality without having enough to clue what was exactly going on make a tense situation worst. The official order was to go to yellow alert, and be prepared for the worst case scenario, but without being conspicuous. The situation was such that the USS Spectre was to be trusted, but without disregarding the risk they may be wrong. Aside of that, Ayehla had been given another task by Syuvik. As she was previously an intelligence officer on the marine, she was given the order to investigate through the public Federation spacelink what happened in this reality during the last months. Strangely enough, the Mithrandir access had been blocked. Was it due to a temporal change that affected the connection? Was it due to the fact there was two Mithrandir crew with the same identification access which prevented them to connect to the spacelink, or was it simply they have been blocked? She went to Syuvik office to give our her findings....or lack thereof. "Come in" said Syuvik Ayehla entered. For a reason unbeknownst to her, she felt a bit stressed. "Sir, I have the report you have asked me." Syuvik rose an eyebrown as he looked at her. "Already? I expected it would take several hours." "I know sir." replied Ayehla. "It's because we have no access to the Federation spacelink. I've tried to investigate why, but it's like if our identification system doesn't work here in this reality. I don't know why sir." "Intriguing." said Syuvik before assessing the situation. "There are several possible explanations. Were you able to exclude some of them?" Ayehla took a few seconds to think about what she had done. "No sir. I have never been involved in such a temporal anomaly, and the marine training have no temporal mechanic class. As for the other explanations...sir, it is possible they have blocked us, but except for the USS Spectre, I don't think anyone else knows about her temporal trip." "I wouldn't be so sure" said Syuvik. "One thing I found particularly strange was the fact an Admiral was already there. According to starfleet protocol, no Admiral would have been on a ship except for very essential mission. It is clear this incident has started at least several hours before we were taken in by the anomaly. Captain T'vhor reported that one of his away team is missing. That could explain why the Admiral is there, but an admiral wouldn't have moved just to investigate on the away mission. There is something more involve that they haven't told us. That's why I've asked you to investigate their starfleet history. But we must not come to conclusion too quickly. They could have blocked us, but it is also likely they haven't. We can't ignore the possibilities. It is also possible that starfleet are making some experience or research of great importance on a nearby station, possibily both in this and our reality, which would explain the presence of the admiral. Their refusal to tell us more about it could be explain by the fact they doesn't entirely trust us for the same reason we don't entirely trust them: we are from different realities, which may be different." That reminded Ayehla on some of her reconnaissance mission. Sometimes, there was no way to know if someone was a potential ally or enemy, and they had to work with both possibilities. Those situations were thought one, and she still remembered one of the mistake she made during the civil war.... when she mistakenly informed her superior that someone was working for Admiral Doenitz, while in fact he wasn`t. She didn't wanted to commit the same mistake here, even if the situation was far less stressful. "So, what do you recommend sir?" "As you surely known, information is always the key. We need to know more. I know Ensign M'elissa is a specialist in cybernetics and computer. M'elissa might be able to give you an hand in finding a way to have access to this spacelink. I know you won't be able to access it by the book, so you have autorization to use some unconventionnal ways to get access. However, we are not spy, and are still part of Starfleet so use only unorthodox, but not prohibited methods to gain access." Ayehla wasn`t sure what corresponded to this description, but didn't asked to clarify. "Yes sir." "I have 2 sisters in Starfleet, one is in theoretical cybernetic construction, the other...... well i cant say, i know she is in Starfleet and that's it, but both have given me some.... advice." Ayehla didn't said a word. Rather, she watched M'elissa has she worked her way through Starfleet communication. "AH there she is. All M'elissa said was making sense. As a ex marine specialized in reconnaissance, Ayehla had some knowledge with those kind of transceiver and what to do to circumvent them. However, Starfleet had some very sophisticated security protocol to prevent any unauthorized person to gain access to their network. Therefore, despite not really understanding what M'elissa has exactly done, Ayehla was amazed how easily M'elissa worked it out like if it was a children game. That was astonishing. Somehow, she started to think that for people with good knowledge on piracy and that kind of stuff, it wasn't probably that hard to gain access to Starfleet network. Well....of course, the fact the Mithrandir was a copy of an already existing ship which has already all it took to gain access certainly helped, but you still needed to know your way around to correct the problem of being the second Mithrandir." M'elissa turned to Ayehla. "I like to explore things, i also like to test everything, this is my results from today, for a signal degradation i was getting in a transmission to my sisters." loading the information onto a padd she smiled, "Lets go to Cargo bay 6, there is a relay satellite with out name on" Ayehla had no idea what she was talking about. But as she helped her, it was the least she return the favor. Ayehla followed M'elissa to Cargo bay 6. Ayehla looked at the padd. On their way, Ayehla started to ask some question "The transmission with your sister, it happened before we got caught in the spacetime anomaly right?" They were 3 months into their past, and everyone had a different opinion on how they should proceed. In fact Will had spent the last few hours debriefing individual crew members. He had hoped to send an away team over to the Station earlier, but he had to do some oversight and take precautionary measures, plus he desperately wanted to get back to his time, hoping there was no damage to the time line. Because of that, he was just no ready to send an away team over to Station Echo One Zero to get somethings back in order. "Alright team." He said looking at the members of the staff assembled, it was the regular crew with some additions, instead of Dr. Turner present, the ACMO Dr. Shepard was in the room, as well as the presence of two addtional security officers Ensigns Pendragon and Boone. Also present with Ensign M'Elissa was ACEO Stevens. Other than those addtions, the rest of the senior staff was present. "All of you have been debriefed, so here is the game plan. I'm going to send Lt. Syuvik over to the Station with an away team, to help investigate and restore power and order. That team will consist of Mr. Syuvik, Ensigns Pendragon and Boone for security, Dr. Shepard will go as our medical personnel, Ens M'Elissa will go as our engineering officer to help restore power." Will looked at them and nodded. "While they are on the station, I want Lts. McKenzie and Briggs, along with ensign Stevens to work on studying a way to get us back to our own time. If that is possible. In the meanwhile, I'll work at making sure we don't 'screw' anything up so to speak. Are there any questions?" (reply Mith crew) (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Mithrandir - Observation Lounge - Mithrandir ACEO, Ensign Hank Stevens - 19:01) As the CO and FO ledgers the briefing, Hank's mind wandered a tad bit. This was his first mission as a commissioned officer. Hank was awed that his new rank had cone about at all. While a engineering PO2 on the Rosenante the CEO there had put him in for a field commission. He had to leave his love Emily Graatz on the Rose. This had been hard. Emily was proud of his success and urged him to accept it. CAPT Alexander split the assembled officers I to two groups. Hank had been selected to remain on board the Mith. That sas dune with Hank - he want the hung ho type anyway. He was intrigued about the possibility of tine travel. Hank began a search of the ship's computer to pull up all data on the attempts at time travel. The one way he was aware of was sling shotting around a sun. CAPT Spock an Admiral Kirk had used this method to travel back to the 20th century and get somr hump backed shakes. They then the did the same thing to return to their tine and saved the universe yet again. The problem was in their situation there was no sun within reasonable distance. This meant another means needexto be found. This was a mystery and Hank liked a good challenge. What could possibly go wrong. “Mr. Syuvik, Ensigns Pendragon and Boone for security, Dr. Shepard will go as our medical personnel, Ensign M'Elissa will go as our engineering officer to help restore power." He listened as the captain listed the personnel for the mission. He was still matching names to faces on the ship. “Are there any questions?” the captain asked. Pendragon raised his hand. “Sir, given the time continuum issues here. What are the rules of engagement if we are attacked? Do we fight back or retreat for fear of contaminating the time line if we injure of kill someone?” (reply Captain) He hated time travel conundrums as they were just headbendingly complex to figure out, and usually he just ended up confused with a headache. Theoretically, our mission is to assist the USS Spectre in investigating the station, as well as to try to find their first away mission who has disappeared since they have been send. However, considering the circumstances, as Captain Will Alexander made it clear, our priority is the time directive. It is in our interest to find out what is happening on the station to be able to conclude about the potential risk of others spacetime anomaly. But once we have accessed the situation, our main task will be to find a way to return to our timeline. I am conscious the USS Spectre crew expect us to help them find their away mission, but the temporal directive outweigh any moral consideration here, and we will help them only to the point where our goal to return to our own time overlap their goal of finding their away team. If it does not overlap, you are authorized to help them only if it will have no impact on our actual mission." As Syuvik was saying that, he was conscious it was, in his opinion, already doing too much. It was its duty to respect his captain order, but truth was helping the Spectre, even as little as he was instructed by the captain, was enough to have huge impact on the timeline. Syuvik was still not sure if it's duty was not to do whatever necessary to avoid such affectation of the timeline even if it meant going against it's CO. However, he counted on the fact he was leading the away mission to reduce considerably the risk, and if that meant splitting with the USS Spectre away team, Syuvik was ready to give the order. It should give us all the information needed to understand what is going on, and to assess the possible risk of other spacetime anomaly. According to the station decks plan provided by the USS Spectre, the main sensor system is located in this section." A zoom in an area of the station was done. "Lieutenant Briggs, Ensign M'elissa, this is where your task will start. It is possible the sensor system will be inoperative and that we will have to repair it, if it could be repaired. Change of plan is a high probability. Now, I would like to hear what you think" (Reply any) Following some interventions, Syuvik resumed.
