Ready Room - FO LCDR Tom Jackson - 1523) Tom listened as his skipper replied to Tom’s overall responses. "Commander you are exactly who I hoped to have as my First Officer. I am eager to see your best attributes as we serve together. My expectations of you simple. To serve Starfleet, this crew with the up most loyalty and to be the best role model for the crew of this ship. And this may be your hardest job, to ensure that I keep a straight head and continue to serve Starfleet and this vessel with the same vigilance." Captain Capps responded to his First Officer. Tom replied to the skipper’s words after pausing a moment to form his reply. “Captain, that I will gladly do. We shall make a great team Sir” Tom replied "I have no doubt that we will. Is there anything else I can do for you?" the Captain replied. “No Sir, I am all done. Thank you for the talk” Tom added, rising to leave. (posted by Bill West) (USS Boudicca – Sickbay - aOPS- Lt. Deynyk Rinn - Day 3 - 2109) There was a moment of pause that almost worried Dey, but then Elizabeth took a step away from him and he could see her visibly bring herself under control. She reached over and picked up the tricorder that she had been using a few moments earlier to run her tests. She spent a few moments recovering her self-control as she pretended to review the data it had collected. "You're right I'm sorry." "There's nothing to be sorry about." Deynyk replied. "It's just a case of bad timing that's all." She seemed to feel more comfortable focused on something else other than the connection that they had briefly experienced."Like you probably thought," she began, "besides the scars you carry, you seem to be in great physical condition." She spoke with the practiced voice of a highly trained doctor. "Thank you Doctor. It's always a good thing to hear it." he replied, taking the same semi-distant tone as he rose from the biobed and recovered his uniform tunic. He pulled it on over his head and adjusted it, then took a few moments to verify his rank pips and commbadge were in their correct places. She then turned on him again, a bright smile on her face. "You made mention you hated to eat alone, well maybe you would like to get something with me." Elizabeth looked at him hopefully, slightly biting her lower lip. "I promise I'll behave..." she added in her honey-filled voice. Deynyk smiled. :You haven't lost your touch: Rinn chided him. :why is it you don't have anything to say unless you can make me feel uncomfortable?: he asked :Just reminding you that I'm here.: the symbiont replied. :Like I could forget.: "Alright" Dey replied to Caspian. "I could go for some cake and coffee, I've still got a lot of work ahead of me tonight, looking over all those complex and interwoven trade agreements, arbitrations and other such things. I would enjoy your company. Would you be able to go now, or should we schedule an appointment?" (posted by Daneil Greene) (USS Boudicca – Sickbay - Ensign(jg) Elizabeth Caspian, Dr. - Day 3 - 2111) "Alright" Dey replied to Caspian. "I could go for some cake and coffee, I've still got a lot of work ahead of me tonight, looking over all those complex and interwoven trade agreements, arbitrations and other such things. I would enjoy your company. Would you be able to go now, or should we schedule an appointment?" She smiled at Dey. "Why put off till tomarrow what can be accomplished today. Besides I'm hungry, I spent my time waiting on the last few someones to make sure everyone new the Boudicca got their check ups." (reply Rinn) "Besides I might be able to offer a fresh perspective on those trade agreements you have to go though, it might even be fun." (posted by Matthew Locke) (USS Boudicca – Sickbay - aOPS- Lt. Deynyk Rinn - Day 3 - 2113) She smiled at Dey. "Why put off till tomorrow what can be accomplished today. Besides I'm hungry, I spent my time waiting on the last few some ones to make sure everyone new to the Boudicca got their checkups." "Alright. It sounds like a plan. You'll need to grab a spare PADD if you're going to look at those crusty old documents though." He added "Besides I might be able to offer a fresh perspective on those trade agreements you have to go though, it might even be fun." (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca – QV - aOPS- Lt. Deynyk Rinn - Day 3 - 2125) The Doors to QV, or as Deynyk preferred to call it, 10 forward, opened to admit the couple with barely a whisper. The frosted glass doors were standard on most starships, it was only the terribly unpronounceable nature of the name that made QV different in most appearances from any of the other ten forwards on any other starship. The place was pretty quiet despite the fact that a starship never truly slept. Normally about this time he would have expected a few more people hanging out, but he then realized that it was the cusp between the second and night shift transfers and like most ships one of the quietest times for any recreational areas of a starship. "How about over by the windows?" he asked Elizabeth. (reply Caspian) They made their way over to one of the observational portals, selecting a table that was actually meant for a larger party, but which offered them an uninhibited view of the universe outside the ship. Stars streaked by, stretched into the red spectrum by the visual Doppler affect that indicated that the ship was moving at warp speed. Off in the distance, a blue-green smudge which was a distant nebula seemed to shimmer in the distance as if there was a thin sheet of running water flowing over the swirling gas clouds of the distant stellar nursery. It was another visual affect of travelling at warp speed. If the ship dropped to impulse, they would be able to see the sharper edges and colors of the nebula without the spectrum shift caused by movement of the ship. The fact that it was blue was due to the fact that the Boudicca was actually moving away from the nebula rather than towards it. It was an oddity of warp travel that Deynyk had always found interesting. They settled into their seats just as a waiter approached their table. "What can I get for you tonight," she asked them, a smile gracing her lips. "I'd like a cup of mocha Coffee with an extra shot of espresso and a generous piece of tira misu, please." Deynyk replied. (reply Caspian) With the orders given, the wait staff moved off to fill them. "So what is it exactly?" Deynyk asked, "Why are you so interested in me? I mean we've only just met." (posted by Daneil Greene) (USS Boudicca – QV - Ensign(jg) Elizabeth Caspian, Dr. - Day 3 - 2130) Elizabeth entered the QV next to Rinn the walk there was quite, neither of them saying much. That did not mean Elizabeth wasn't working on something. Has they walked she read their vibrations and auroras on the energy level that were the picture of compatibility. These thoughts filled her mind and brought a smile to her face. "How about over by the windows?" Dey asked Elizabeth. "Yes, I would like that a great deal." She answered happily. As they made there way over to a large table, that offered a spectacular view of the stars beyond. Elizabeth could get lost looking into those stars. She remembered when she was young she would count herself to sleep by counting the stars till she lost count. She watched has Rinn took his seat and she settled into the seat next to his chair. A waitress came to them quickly and took Rinn's order has Elizabeth pondered what she would like. When it was her turn to order Elizabeth spoke up. "Oh, I'll have a triple shot mocha grand with... a slice of cheese cake with cherries." The waitress moved off to fill the orders. It was then that Rinn turned to Elizabeth and asked "So what is it exactly? Why are you so interested in me? I mean we've only just met." It was a tougher question that it sounded, after all he asked for what is was exactly that she was interested in. Elizabeth wasn't interested in one thing she was interested in the whole package. She sat for a while seemingly in though before replying. "Exactly nothing," She answered coyly. "You have a sort aura around you, a thirst for life that you don't need to be a telepath to see. You seem to have the personality that everything is an adventure, even us right now. You seem to love not knowing what the future holds and where the wind might take you. You live with a passion for the moment that is infectious. I like that." Elizabeth answered before adding softly. "Of course the fact your quite a looker and a have a nice firm body, helps...." She paused for a moment. "A lot, and like I told you earlier." Again she paused. "I have a thing for spots." She spoke in a voice entirely to innocent "Am I wrong about you?" Elizabeth smiled. she didn't believe she was after she gathered from the emotional link earlier. "And if I'm not can you blame me?" (posted by Matthew Locke) (USS Boudicca – QV - aOPS- Lt. Deynyk Rinn - Day 3 - 2135) They settled into their seats, presented their orders to the waitress and took a moment to admire the view before Deynyk began the conversation, "So what is it exactly? Why are you so interested in me? I mean we've only just met." Elizabeth took a few moments to ponder the questions posed to her, and Deynyk realized that he had actually asked a question that was harder to answer than he had really intended. After all, they had barely had time to actually have a discussion let alone reflect upon any potential feelings that may be present. "Exactly nothing," She finally answered, her voice cooing with a sense of sexuality. "You have a sort aura around you, a thirst for life that you don't need to be a telepath to see. You seem to have the personality that everything is an adventure, even us right now. You seem to love not knowing what the future holds and where the wind might take you. You live with a passion for the moment that is infectious. I like that." Deynyk found himself nodding with her assessment, although if had any sense about him he would have prevented himself from doing so in the first place. She continued, "Of course, the fact your quite a looker and a have a nice firm body, helps...." She paused for a moment. "A lot, and like I told you earlier." Again she paused. "I have a thing for spots." Her voice seemed to suggest innocence, but her eyes and her body language bespoke of a much more uninhibited personality. There was knowledge hidden behind those eyes, that belayed the innocent tone of her honey-steeped voice. "Am I wrong about you?" Elizabeth smiled one of those, I-told-you-so smiles, that tended to get him into way too much trouble. "And if I'm not can you blame me?" Dey shrugged and took a moment to look out the window in an effort to gather his thoughts. He hadn't quite expected that answer, but then again, he wasn't entirely certain what sort of answer he should have expected. All things considered, at least he knew he was getting a straight-from-the-hip response; unrehearsed and blatantly honest. He caught the reflection of the approaching waiteress in the window and said, "Food's here." If nothing else, it gave him a few more moments to regain his footing. ::How's it feel?:: the symbiont asked him. ::How's what feel?:: ::Not being the aggressive forward member of a relationship for a change?:: ::I don't know different somehow.:: Deynyk brought his attention back to the present as the waitress placed the ordered Mocha and Tiramisu on the table before him. "Thank you." he said and a moment later the waitress departed. "No." he finally replied as he sank his fork into the soft expanse of the Italian desert. You're not really wrong about me." He stated, "Although to be honest I really hadn't looked at my behavior in that light before. I always figured it was the thrill that kept me coming back, sort of like a natural high from the adventure that I'm addicted to." He lifted the forkful to his mouth and chewed on it thoughtfully. He washed it down with a sip of the still-too-hot mocha before continuing. "But now that you mention it, I suppose your description is accurate. I really don't give much consideration to the future beyond those things that need immediate attention. And to be honest, I am very much addicted to the adventure of life. I've, well Rinn, has spent way too much time playing things safe and missing out on the wonders of the universe. He selected me because we have a similar life philosophy. We both consider life too short to do things that don't inspire awe, wonder and leave you gasping for breath." He smiled at her, "but that said, I am not a one-woman man. I won't allow myself to be restrained from pursuing whatever I feel like pursuing whether that be climbing a mountain or bedding a woman. So if you expect me to join in some sort of monogamous relationship, you can forget it. I'm not suitable for that sort of structured relationship." He added another forkful of cake to his mouth, swallowed it and once again washed it down with some Mocha. "And I don't blame you for your interest, there's an attraction to danger and enervation that people find sexually stimulating. I for one have fallen victim to it on more than one occasion. I think we all do at some point in our lives." "I guess I'm a little resistant because I don't really understand what you're looking for and I want to avoid any relationship that's going to create complications of a more permanent sort." Last night had been fantastic and she was looking forward to breakfast. Stretching, she got out of bed and dressed in her uniform. Suddenly the comm system activated, "Jacobs to Doctor Saryn" “Saryn here.” "About that surprise I told you about. It's not going to be in the QV make your way to my quarters please." A look of surprise flittered across Mia's face and she smiled. She had a feeling she knew where this was going and she replied, “I'll be there in five minutes.” She turned to the mirror she had in her bedroom and readjusted a stray hair and said to no-one, “Here we go.” (posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca – Jacob's Personal Quarters – aCMO Ensign Mia Saryn - 0637) Mia stood outside Henry's quarters and took a moment. She knew that Saryn was still urging caution but this was something she wanted to do and he was just along for the ride. She told the computer to announce she was there and waited for a moment. Suddenly, the door opened and there stood Henry. She glanced at his muscular arms and felt her eyes grow wide as she said, “Hi.” He beckoned her in and she walked into his quarters and said, “Wow, this looks great.” ~And you don't look to bad yourself.~ she thought to herself. She walked towards the table and said, “You cook as well? There's sides to you Mr. Jacobs that I have yet to see.” Mia flashed him a little wicked grin and then said, “Where shall I sit?” (posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca - Personal Quarters - aCEO Ensign Henry Jacobs - 0643) Jacobs turned around as Mia followed him into the quarters. "Where shall I sit?" she asked. "Oh, there will be no sitting on your part. You will be making your own breakfast." The sentence was followed by a chuckle as he took his position in front of one of the flames. "We have all the fresh ingredients you could need to make a hearty breakfast. Anything you don't see we could always replicate." He gestured with his right arm for her to come stand next to him and participate. "What do you like in your omelet? (reply Mia) "Is that so. Well i wanna see what you can do." (reply Mia) Henry turned back to his project and began throwing ingredients into his pan. He added some olive oil to make sure the pan was coated. Next came the ham, turkey and jalapenos. He wanted the meats and the pepper to took a few seconds before he added the eggs into the mix. He cracked three eggs into the pan and quickly scrambled them in with the meat that was already in the pan. He looked over to his side to see Mia hard at work with whatever she wanted. He nodded in acceptance of her skill and continued on with his masterpiece. The cooking continued for the next 15 minutes and between the two of them quite a bit of delectable food had been created. They sat at another table and had enjoyed a conversation while eating what they had created. They exchanged stories about previous missions until all of the food on their plates were gone. "I have a surprise for you" Henry said getting up and walking over to the replicator. He gestured with his right arm for her to come stand next to him and participate. "What do you like in your omelet? She smiled and said, “Oh it's been a while since i've done this. One of Saryn's previous hosts was a great chef, so I have good taste.” She glanced at him and smiled. ~Hmm, he looks good.~ she thought to herself. "Is that so. Well i wanna see what you can do." “Yes it is. Watch out Mister.” Mia replied and began cooking. Glancing at the table, she spotted what she needed. She coated her pan in oil and began lightly frying some small pieces of bacon and then walked to the replicator to get one ingredient she didn't have. A small portion of grated truffle. Smiling back at Henry, she said, “See told you I had good taste.” She walked back and continued to make her omlette. After they had both prepared their food, they sat and ate. Talking about previous missions and other things, Mia felt herself relax. True, she had tricked him last night but she was happy she did. She enjoyed his company and the sights she was seeing. He seemed like a nice guy and she knew she wanted to get to know him more. Suddenly Henry stood and said, "I have a surprise for you" He walked over to the replicator. Mia leant back in her chair and said, “Oh, and what's that?” She had tried to hide the sensualness in her voice but she knew that she had failed miserabley. (Reply Jacobs) Mia stood and walked over to him. She placed a hand lightly on his arm and said, “Oh I doubt there's a lot you could do to surprise me. I mean I have lived many lifetimes.” There was no doubt in his mind that what she said was true. The surprise he had for her wasn't one to knock her socks off but to more so put a smile on her face. "Dessert selection CPI 2" he stated in the direction of the replicator. It beeped in submission and a plate materialized with the requested dessert. On the plate were two chocolate candy cups filled with peanut butter. What made the dessert especially delicious was the scoop of ice cream that sat directly on top of each cup. "Try this," he demanded as he took a spoon and scooped some of the dessert up in her direction. (reply Mia) "I am glad you enjoy it, I had to program it in. For those bearish days in engineering" He walked her over to the couch and the two sat and continued to talk as they finished the treat. (reply Mia) "So I have been wondering how Saryn has been feeling towards me lately?" (reply Mia, Saryn) The question he asked was just to get her and Saryn talking again in her head. He figured the more they talked in his presence the more Saryn would ge used to him. "What do you have planned for the day?" (reply Mia) "I just wanted to know when you would be free again" He smiled through her answer. (posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Boudicca - Personal Quarters – aCMO Ensign Mia Saryn - 0659) "Dessert selection CPI 2" he stated in the direction of the replicator. Mia watched as a delicious looking desert materialised. This guy certainly knew something about women as she instantly recognised chocolate. She smiled widely as he brought the desert to the table and said "Try this," Mia took a spoon and took a small selection of each of the ingrediants. She regarded the desert and its ingrediants for a second and then placed the desert, delicately, in her mouth. The melting pot of flavours instantly hit her and she sighed happily and said, “Oh my god, Henry. This is delicious.” "I am glad you enjoy it, I had to program it in. For those bearish days in engineering" He walked her over to the couch and she followed him. They talked for a few moments whilst finishing the desert. Mia placed her empty bowl onto the table infront of her and said, “That was simply heaven.” She watched him smile. He had a nice smile and she wanted to see more of it. "So I have been wondering how Saryn has been feeling towards me lately?" Mia regarded him a second and said, “You really want to know? Okay...” Mia closed her eyes a second and relayed his question, .:Well, he seems ok. I mean, for a guy you hardly know, Mia, what do you want me to say?:. .:The truth, Saryn. That's all I have ever asked from you.:. .: Mia, now is not the time for this. :. .: Then when... when will it be time?:. Mia opened her eyes and sighed. She had been trying to cajole him into tell him what had happened between him and Caspian but he wasn't telling. She looked at Henry and said, “He likes you. Well, as much as he likes anyone.” She laughed a little. "What do you have planned for the day?" Mia smiled at him and said, “Any particular reason for that question, Mr Jacobs?” "I just wanted to know when you would be free again" Mia smiled widely and replied, “Well, being the boss, I can pretty much make my own time.” (reply Jacobs) Mia laughed a little and said, “I have a shift in sickbay tomorrow morning but i'm free for most of the next few days.” (Reply Jacobs) Mia smiled and said, “I'd like that.” She leant forward nearer to him and said, quietly, “Listen, i'm sorry for... well.... that little trick with the car.” (Reply Jacobs) She smiled and said, “I should get going. I need to get to sickbay. I have some tests running that I need to check on.” (reply Jacobs) Mia leaned in a little closer and whispered, “There was one thing I wanted to do first.” She leant forward and kissed him lightly on the lips. (posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca – Sickbay - Ensign(jg) Elizabeth Caspian, Dr. - Day 4 - 0713) I was turning into the kind of day you would just want to crawl right back into bed and forget all about happening. However it seemed that no matter how calm the sickbay was something else was bound to happen and break the calm. The reading Mia took of Mr Jackson's pregnant wife seemed to prove that. Elizabeth continued to run various test of the readings Mia had given her. They were long sense confirmed but that was no longer the case. What they needed now were treating options. She watched has Dahlia entered Sickbay and talk to Mia has they crossed to a near by bio-bed. Mia had the soon to be wife lying on the bed and had started a series of test they would take a few minutes Elizabeth knew. It did allow Mia a chance to call Elizabeth over to the office. Once behind the safety of the office doors. "This is the part of the job I hate. Giving this kind of news.” Mia stated. "I don't think anyone really enjoys it." Elizabeth replied trying to console her friend. "But I'll be there with you to help in anyway I can." Mia nodded and replied,“Oh I know. We take the rough with the smooth.” She sighed and then continued,“I suppose i'd better bite the bullet and get the Commander down here as well.” "I think that might be a wise ideal." Mia commented back in light hearten tone. Mia pressed her Commbadge and spoke briefly to the Commander after all ones private business is not something one speaks about over an open channel. Soon Mia turned to Lizzy “God, I hope this isn't too hard on them.” "Hard or not they need to hear it now while there is something we can do about it." It was the kind of response Elizabeth knew Mia needed to hear. They would get though this. There would be more hard times in this sickbay to come it would be foolish no top think that there wouldn't be. even though one always hope that would not be the case. He typed in further commands to the terminal which caused the 3-dimensional display to zoom in to an adjacent astroid field less then three light years away from last reports of bandit activity. He logged the findings in the computer and brought it to the attention of Ensign Vanik. "Sir, I may have found where they are hiding." He stood looking in the direction of the Chief Science officer. (reply Vanik) "From initial scans there seem to be multiple signals coming from the astroid field. There also seems to be signs of rudimentary cloaking technology. Tetryon particles are in high concentration." (reply Vanik) "If this in fact the hiding location of the ships there is another issue that has to be addressed. She eventually turned to Elizabeth. "Lizzy, you're the lead surgeon on this. I'm going to the cargo bay. I want you to get sickbay ready for the wounded. Prep the operating theater and make sure you have what you need for any eventuality.” "It'll be done boss" Elizabeth smiled at Mia. “Look, whatever is going on between you and Saryn, put it aside for now. We need to focus on this and make sure we show the Commander what two blonds can do when they put their heads together.”Mia spoke to Elizabeth has soon has they were out of ear shot of the rest of the medical personnel. Elizabeth turned on Mia a serious look in her eye. "Mia what happened between me and Saryn happened in the past and we take all the time we need to come to terms with that. Lets show the commander just how dangerous two blonds can be." Mia nodded and turned back to the nurses as they came back with the med kits. She took one of them and, turning back to Lizzy said, “Use the emergency medical transporters and set us outside the cargo bay.” "Already on it." Elizabeth spoke to Mia plotting the information for a spot to spot transport. It was something she trained in for emergency situations. If successful it would cut the travel times of the medical teams dramatically and allow more advanced medical care quicker. Elizabeth activated the teleporter and watched as the medical teams beamed out. Lizzy turned to the rest of the medical bay. "OK, listen up they got the easy part," Elizabeth spoke with a command authority that would make any Captain proud. "Front two biobeds are for easy, come, and go cases. Medical alcoves 1,2, and three are gonna be used for triage now designated yellow for moderate cases, red for sever, black for any that will be dead with in the next few hours with out the proper medical attention needed. Elizabeth went over to the encased or and prepped for any possible cases that would require operations. She didn't have to wait long till for the medical teams to start to return caring injured with the help of some more than able bodied security members. Has the Comm system came to life again =/\=Lizzy, be prepared. Get him up onto a biobed. I'll inform the Commander that we've got everyone.” Mia spoke to her has they manages to get the wounded upon the biobed. "Computer begin scans and vital monitoring, " Elizabeth turned to Mia and smiled "Welcome back." She stood by the patients side and waited for the drill to be over. Unexpected drills we a need yet stressful part of the job of being in starfleet. Elizabeth wondered if the FO knew just how much more work this would make for Lizzy and Mia. Elizabeth already knew it would take the rest of the day to compile all the recorded medical information from the drill, analyze that data, figure out area's of improvement, then how to improve those area, then implement a plan to change current operations to implement the new improvements. JG Robert Sykes – 10.00) It was strange for Robert to no longer be in the Starfleet Marines. He had started his service there, and enjoyed his service there, but he was beginning to feel a bit like the marines weren’t for him. Not that he didn’t enjoy it and was glad he was there, but feeling a bit like a change of pace, and perhaps he was having his midlife crisis 27 years to early, he had set in for a transfer to the fleet side of things. Then upon undergoing some brief retraining he was given his new assignment as CONN officer. Which was interesting because he assumed the fleet would just send him to some starbase as a security officer. Instead his skills as a pilot where rewarded and he was assigned to the USS Boudicca at the CONN. It was interesting too, because Captain Capps his CO was someone who he had previously served with on the USS Spectre. Back before the time jump, in fact he seemed to remember running around a Borg Cube with Captain, then lieutenant commander, Capps. That was an interesting day for Robert, it was the day he realized that fleeters weren’t as bad as some of the marines made them out to be. They ran that mission with another officer too, Lt. Commander Alexander, who had moved on to be First Officer of the USS Mithrandir. Both those guys were fleeters, both those guys were two tough son of a guns, and both those guys’ careers would go far. He was certain it was just a matter of time before Commander Alexander became a commanding officer on his own right. But that didn’t matter for the time being, cause Robert had his own career to enjoy. He buzzed the door to the ready room and entered. “Skipper, hows it going?” Robert said as he entered the office. As he finished reading the chime of his office sounded in his ear. "Come in," Calvin replied. He was curious as to who would be at his office. He thought again and realized that now he was Captain it would probably be common for people to be at his office unannounced for various reasons. “Skipper, hows it going?” Robert said as he entered the office. The man in front of Calvin was someone the Captain had memories of being in a marine uniform. Robert now wore, to use a marine term, a fleeter's uniform. The ranks on his collar were equal to Calvin's memory though. "Robert," he said with a smile on his face. He was obviously happy to see such an old friend and past colleague. "Have a seat." He paused and waited for the CONN officer to have a seat. "What brings you to my office?" “Just wanted to stop by and thank you for giving me this chance on the Boudicca. I know there are a bunch of more qualified CONN officers in the fleet, so to take a chance on a jar head like me, well just wanted to say thank you.” "Lieutenant, I picked you because I personally know of your background. I know with you at the CONN and if any situation surfaces; I can count on you to follow orders and get us the hell out of there. She was also pretty sure that everyone else was being affected by her excitement; or it was paranoia. ~I'm on a starship. I'm on a starship in space. I'm on a starship as an Assistant Chief Medical Officer.~ Of course, Ashiel has been on a few other starships, mainly pleasure ones. She had to ride on on her rare trips from Earth to Betazed. Never an actual Starfleet-ship of course, and the sight of this one from the shuttle caused her heart to beat rapidly. How she longed to study the blueprints, learn every thing that made this beauty work. The shuttle landed on the dock, the pilot quickly stated the obvious. She nodded, showed that she heard, and then unbuckled the restraints. She noticed her hands were shaking lightly, and she forced them to be still. ~Remember, you're here for Medical, not Engineering.~ In her mind, she replayed her last visit by her father. He had told her that she needed to find meaning in life, and then argued when she announced her joining of Starfleet. He had been livid, bringing her mother to tears. "We've already lost one child, we don't need to loose another" he yelled, standing from the table. "What were you thinking?" Ashiel knew what she had been thinking. She longed for something more than Botany, plants can only take you so far. The only alien races she's actually met were Betazed and Terran. She can still remember the pain she absorbed from her father, calming him down within seconds. The look on his face was enough, and her mother wasn't doing anybetter. They said their goodbyes that day. She now found herself standing at the entrance to the Ready Room, completely lost in thought that she didn't notice. The nerves had dulled down to a slight fluttering of the stomach. With a shake of her head to clear her thoughts, she stepped forward. She almost ran into someone when she walked through the door, muttering a quick apology before looking around. She spotted the CO by the dots on his collar. Reminding herself that she can do this, she walked over slowly, hoping nobody would notice her taking her time. "Sir," she said, saluting. The CO turned, awaiting her to finish her statement. "My name is Ashiel Sorien, I was told to report to you by Admiral Jopek. I am ready to take my post as Assistant Chief Medical Officer." She finished with a smile, knowing she rambled a bit. He took the situation seriously and wanted to cut this out of his ship as soon as possible. The report he would be sending to Command needed to be accurate and the consequences needed to mirror the perfect response. As he paced toward his door it opened suddenly and an officer ran directly into him. Calvin took a step back to consider his surroundings. "Ensign Vanik, is there anything unusual in this area that our charts don't show?" (reply Vanik) The Captain continued with his questions but moving on to the ops chair. "Lieutenant Rinn, what are your scans showing?" (reply Rinn) Sitting next to the Captain was his First Officer. He turned his head toward him now. "How are we doing Commander?" (reply Jackson) "Very well, lets continue through the Sull Path," he spoke to his conn man. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca – Bridge - aOPS- Lt. Deynyk Rinn - Day 13 - 1052) "Lieutenant Rinn, what are your scans showing?" The captain asked as they approached the Sull Path. "Long range scans are showing that there have been three starships that have traversed the path within the last 48 hours sir, judging by ionic decay and warp residue. It looks like a federation freighter, which corresponds with the filed flight path for the USS Namaste. I believe the other two ships to be a pair of Targanian freighters, probably travelling as a convoy to better their defensive capabilities. I cannot tell which direction they are currently travelling, although the Namaste's flight plan indicates she is headed for Quaros III, which is 14 LYs away from here on bearing 383.14." "Beyond those vessels it is very difficult to tell what other traffic has been through here, the warp and ionic decays are very interwoven due to the high density of traffic. I am also not detecting any distress signals or chatter at this time that is indicative of any sort of attack." (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - TAC/S ENS(SG) Detron Trei - 10.55) He manned the Tactical station when the CPT Capps entered the Bridge. He ordered him to run a full sensor scan. He would have run the scan anyway but did as ordered. He was asked if he saw anything out of the ordinary. "Running the scan sir. I don't see anything unusual at this point sir." He waited for further orders. (posted by Edward Engel) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 1100) All reports were in and it seemed the entrance of the Sull Path was clean of any traps. "Continue through the Sull Path at full impulse. Run all scans to search for any possible concerns." After he gave his orders he was certain they would be followed. He moved from his command chair and over to an auxiliary console which had their current flight path through the Sull Path. He took a look over it and began to run through some of the possible coordinates that were sat aside for him to look at that might be good places for an attack to happen. His science and security team were doing an excellent job, but he had an odd feeling that no matter how hard they worked; the traps that had been reported were undetectable and was enacted suddenly and without a single clue. The Captain always attempted to have an optimistic view so he convinced himself to play it cautiously and to take the Sull Path one step at a time. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - FO - LCDR Tom Jackson - 2200) The Boudicca was on station at the edge of the Sull Path expanse. The mission had been uneventful to date. The Medical and Security drills went well. The only one left was Engineering. Tom had thought a lot about this particular drill. Engineering had been a big help with Sick Bay's drill. Tom wanted to test Engineering thoroughly. Their lives depended on its peak operation. That area feed all the others. Tom knew its leader and his strengths. Jackson didn't know Henry's subordinates as well. This Jackson had to remedy.. Tom keyed the 1MC and ordered " All Hands this LCDR Tom Jackson. This a drill. Engineering - we have indications of a system wide power failure. Life support is approaching dangerously low levels. Respond". (posted by Bill West) (USS Boudicca - Main Engineering - aCEO Ensign Henry Jacobs - 2204) Henry had just finished his double shift. There wasn't that much that needed to be done. At the request of the captain the shielding system had been tested several times. It was an added bonus that the Boudicca had a secondary shield system that was also online and ready for use. He thanked everyone that had been on shift with him as he grabbed his report padds and headed out of engineering on to his quarters. No sooner than he had walked out the door he heard over a shipwide announcement, "All Hands this LCDR Tom Jackson. This a drill. Engineering - we have indications of a system wide power failure. Life support is approaching dangerously low levels. Respond". Henry pivoted and made his way back through the engineering entrance. It had been so many days since the last drill that this one had caught him off guard. When the doors to engineering opened the night shift didn't even look his way. They also had heard the announcement and didn't think twice before jumping into action. Engineering had become live again as all the engineers began rerouting power from various locations. Henry wanted this drill to be run properly so he spoke up. "I want all non-essential systems cut and power rerouted from them asap." "It's already being done chief," someone called out from the second level of engineering. "Good. Good, " he replied as he began to climb the ladder to the second level. " Now cut power to all secondary transporters, replicators, lights, anything else we don't need at the moment. Cut the environmental controls to all cargo bays and non-essential areas. All collected power needs to be routed immediately to the life support systems." The engineering crew did not skip a step in following his orders. It even appeared that they anticipated his orders. They were well versed in his commands and worked so that he didn't even have to speak them. Once he got to the top level he had seen that his orders were already executed. Before Jacobs could get to the life support terminal one of the engineers began to cut in. "Sir, life support has been returned to operating efficiency." Jacobs looked at all of the engineers on this level and the ones on the main level and smiled. "Once again you have kept us from blowing up and dying. Great job everyone. You make my job so easy." He received nothing but smiles from the hard working engineers as the drill was over and they went back to their normal duties. As Jacobs walked over to the lift to return to the main level he tapped his commbadge. "Ensign Jacobs to the Bridge. Crisis averted. Life support is now holding. We can all breath easy now" (posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Boudicca Deck FO Quarters LCDR Tom & Dahlia Jackson 2345) Tom entered and plopped down on their couch. He as tired, bone tired. He was learning that as a Command officer that he was always on call. Dahlia entered and smiled her special smile. It was one full of love, support and faith. Tom reached up and pulled her next to him. The two sat quietly each in their own thoughts but still connected some how. Tom was winding down when he felt the twins kick hard enough so that he felt it. He placed his hand gently on her tummy and talked to the babies. " Jacob, Hope you behave and help mommy rest" he said softly. It was silly but Tom knew in his heart they'd understand. The twins stopped their movements momentarily as if they heard their daddy's words. Dahlia lightly kissed him saying "Thomas Jackson you never cease to amaze me". Tom Jackson grinned sheepishly replying " all part of my charm ". She laughed as she smacked him with a small pillow. Tom held his hands up in surrender. Looking at her beloved she tried to say something she had long thought about. They hadn't spoken much about the future. "Thomas, I want you to promise me something dear" she told her husband. Tom said "what?" He tried to continue to speak but she placed her delicate finger tips on his lips to shut him up. "We were brought together by Starfleet. If you are ever forced to decide between the kids and I and your ship - I hope you will choose your ship. I had a dream last night where we where on you own command too" she added. Tom's eyes filled with tears and he hugged Dahlia. So far there had not been any sign of the bandits. The overnight bridge crew had been put on alert, and a team had been put together to scan for any sign of traps in the Sull Path. As the night crew took over the watch the senior crew and its Captain turned in for the night. Calvin laid in is bed sleeping soundlessly. Light music was playing in his room keeping his sleep smooth and lull. The room was completely dark. So when the red lights began to blink it immediately awoke the Captain. It was followed by the red alert klaxon, which was then followed by a violent shake of the ship. It was one of many nightmares that Captain's never hoped to happen. Captain Capps shot out of the bed, and was already putting his uniform on when a communication came through. =/\=Bridge to Captain. Please report to the Bridge immediately.=/\= "Already on my way!" His detailed work with the trade documents, diplomatic treaties and legal conflicts of the eight worlds most commonly using the Sull Path had revealed no real indication that a government was behind the pirate attack in the region, a situation that seemed to confound the trill diplomat turned operations officer. in his experience there were rarely instances of genuine piracy hereby a ship and its crew willfully undertook piracy on its own without the support of a government or at least a powerful entity protecting them or providing a safe port. in this case, it seemed. that may be exactly what was happening. Still, he somehow believed that someone was desiring to destabilize the region through such acts, but the documents, treaties and legal agreements didn't support that, at least not for any of the species that were actively using the Sull Path for trade. It was a revealing although frustrating bit of information. ~Well, I guess I'm going to have to tell the captain that I've wasted my time with this study.~ Deynyk thought. He released the bridge of his nose, let out another sigh and stood to stretch. Suddenly the ship jerked and a red alert klaxon sounded. Deynyk almost lost his footing but managed to grab a hold of the edge of his desk at the last moment. His 'USS Boudicca' coffee mug wasn't as lucky. It toppled from the desktop and shattered into a thousand pieces. without any concern for cleaning up the mess, Dey quickly made his way towards the bridge, just as Captain Capps orders to report sounded from his commbadge. The injury hadn't been severe, and he'd only just broken the skin, although with most head wounds, there was now a ma of blood stuck in his otherwise blonde hair. The doors to the turbolift slid open after what seemed a near eternity and Deynyk managed to grab hold of one of the empty seats at the auxiliary station just as the ship lurched again. He moved quickly across to his operations console and relieved the junior nightwatch officer, much to his relief. he had just caught the captain's request to Trei about the attacker and Deynyk was already working hard to help the tactical officer determine who or what was attacking them. "If its not someone then what is it?" Captain Capps needed to know. "Some sort of mines, captain." The trill Operations officer interjected. "Mines, explain?" The Captain replied. "We seem to have entered a minefield. The scans are intermittent and unreliable at the present, but we seem to be within an indeterminately sized field of mines. They are obviously phased and cloaked. They could be graviton mines, perhaps like those used by the Romulans or by Doenitz forces during the civil war. The hair on the back of Tom’s neck rose - which usually meant things were about to take a turn for the worse. "Nothing major, " someone replied. " Apparently we flew into some mines. Thats the report from the bridge." Henry nodded as he shuffled over to his office to review the overnight reports. "Any damage?" he asked. "Nothing noticeable, I think we just all got shaken up a bit." (posted by Edward Engel) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - Science Officer Ensign Nickolas Romanoff - 0427) "No tachyon detected. Standing by for quick get away sir. Might I suggest tachyon puleses to reveal the cloaked ship?" suggested the tactical officer. "Sir, I can confirm those reading," started Nickolas in the direction of the captain. "While enroute to the Sull Path myself and Ensign Vanik came across readings of tachyons in the nearby astroid field." He stood to make sure the captain was understanding where this new information was coming from. His science station was behind the line of sight of the captain so he walked up to be seen. "The initial scans from Astrometrics localized rudimentary tachyon particles, indicating that if the ships are cloaked they are using a very outdated device to hide their ships. I composed all this information and handed it over Ensign Vanik prior to our arrival." The captains suspicions confirmed his findings but that was not what was currently worrying him. If they could cloak their ships than that meant that the mine they collided with may have been cloaked as well. If the mines were cloaked there was no telling how many were out there. "Sir, I suggest we proceed with extreme caution. Currently there is no way to tell how many more cloaked mines are out there." he expressed to the captain as he walked back to his science station. (posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 0428) The Captain sat in the command chair and listened to all the reports. He and his senior crew were now processing the information and formulating responses to the external stimuli that were now dangerously affecting their lives. As Calvin understood it the ship was now being pulled by some force, that hasn't been uncovered, that apparently keeps the Boudicca on a safe path away from the mines; which are cloaked and undetectable at the moment, and if Calvin decided to attempt to get away from the pulling force by using the stronger engines there is no assurance where and how many mines there may be ready to destroy his ship along with all of its crew members. It seemed Captain Capps had a Kobayashi Maru on his hands. To the Captain it was clear that what he needed was more information and he needed it fast. He wasn't certain if it would work, but he put stock into his crew so he turned to his aCEO. "Lets see if we can't see whats out there. If we followed Ensign Trei's advice can we set up the nacelles to emit tachyon particles to render the out dated mines visible?" (reply Jacobs) "Work on that, and we shall need it within in minutes Ensign Jacobs." The Captain continued on, but this time his faced forward to the two men sitting at consoles at the front of the bridge. "Lt. Rinn and Sykes is there any update as to what is pulling the Boudicca; why and where?" (reply Rinn, Sykes) "Continue to work on that theory." No concrete answers. That was what the Captain was hearing. It was certain now that the Boudicca has fallen into a trap. If the crew of a Starfleet vessel could fall into this and not get out it was unlikely that any vessel could. These traps were set by a person or a group of people that were experts at this sort of game. Never the less the Captain would not give up. "Ensign Trei, set up large security teams at all viable positions. Especially the cargo bays." (reply Trei) He turned to his First Officer. "Commander Jackson work with Ensign Trei in analyzing the damage by the mines. If we have to get out of here attempt to figure out how many times we can get hit before we are rendered useless." (reply Jackson) "I understand the seriousness of the mines Commander, we will use it as a last resort," the Captain snapped back with an even voice. Captain Capps was delighted to finally hear the voice of Ensign Jacobs again. "What do you have." (reply Jacobs) "By all means lets try it." Calvin faced toward the view screen with an intense anticipation. He heard the aCEO giving various orders to call his plan into action. (reply Jacobs) The Captain saw a a green blue mist exhale outward from the nacelles. At first nothing appeared and it seemed that the attempt was a failure. But he heard Ensign Jacobs making minor adjustments behind him. The hope rose back in his body. (reply Jacobs) Suddenly and to the relief of many it seemed the plan had worked. Mines were beginning to be visibly seen. "Scans, how many are out there?" (reply any) Calvin was shocked. He would not have guessed such a high number. "Lt. Sykes see if you can plot a course through the mines some..." That was when it happened. Calvin could feel the ship stop moving or at least it was the non movement present on the view screen. Followed by the lights, the boards and sounds that were normally present on the bridge were gone. Complete darkness. Power, except for critical power, it seemed was out. Before the Captain could even call for a report a strangers voice could be heard over the comm. =/\=Whom ever is in charge of this vessel, my name is Captain Toulin. I wish you no harm. Your ship is under my control and all I wish is the necessary cargo I need aboard your ship. Once we have what we want we will allow you and your ship to leave.=/\= "Captain Toulin, I am Captain Capps of the USS Boudicca of the United Federation of Planets. Your action here and now could constitute as an act of war." Calvin said with as much calm in his voice as he could. No response came from Toulin. The Captain was now happy that he had sat up security teams as soon as he realized that they were caught in a trap. He was certain that the stationed security crew at the cargo bay were more than able to handle the situation. Calvin took out his light beacon and looked around. "Report!" (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - aCOP Lieutenant Deynyk Rinn - Day 14- 0430) Deynyk was furiously trying to determine exactly what was happening to the ship. There weren't any sources for the unexplained tug upon the boudicca, and without better knowledge of what they were dealing with, the ship couldn't pull itself free from the grasp of whatever it was caught in. It just so happened that both the power drain and the unexplained tug were somewhat if not exactly related. "Lt. Rinn and Sykes is there any update as to what is pulling the Boudicca; why and where?" The captain asked. "Well Captain," Rinn began, "I know the how, I think." There was a moment of silence, a very short one, before he continued," Sensors are showing a series of subspace ripples, for lack of a better word, coalescing into a sort of subspace current." "The easiest way to describe it would be to consider normal space as an ocean, filled with subspace. Sometimes the topography, either through natural or unnatural means channels the flow of water into a concentrated stream known as a current. When the concentration reaches a certain level, it takes on a course that can be determined by those same topographical features." "In effect, what we have here is some sort of subspace current, or wave that is pulling us along, using subspace as a medium. It's likely artificial, as no form of subspace flow has ever been recorded in this area. In fact there is only one naturally occurring subspace flow known to us, and it's the subspace river. Which we now know is not a natural occurrence at all." "So three hypothesis could be posited. First, that we have discovered some sort of extension of the subspace river. Second, that some sort of entity or technology is creating this 'flow' through artificial means along a very distinct path. Or third, that this is, in fact, some sort of natural phenomenon that we have never seen before." As for the where of it, without a significant re-calibration of the sensors, we're not able to detect the density of the 'flow' beyond a few thousand kilometers, so predicting it's path is not possible at this time." "Continue to work on that theory." Capps ordered. "Aye captain." Rinn responded and continued to adjust his scans in an attempt to get more information without re-calibrating the Boudicca's entire sensor array. Deynyk was only half aware of the use of the bussards by Jacobs, until suddenly the mines began to appear on his module. Deynyk's eyes grew large as the number of mines grew exponentially. "Scans, how many are out there?" The captain asked. Deynyk turned from his console and looked out through the main viewer, only to confirm the field density visually. "Captain, Sensors are showing roughly half-a-million mines in our immediate vicinity, covering nearly a quarter of a light year." Suddenly the systems on the ship just stopped working. Deynyk quickly activated the emergency main power reserves, otherwise it wouldn't take long for life support to run out. He furiously tapped out a series of commands, shutting down all non-critical systems. He reduced the ship's lighting by 75%, there was no telling how much time they'd need to remain on energy rationing. =^=Whomever is in charge of this vessel, my name is Captain Toulin. I wish you no harm. Your ship is under my control and all I wish is the necessary cargo I need aboard your ship. Once we have what we want we will allow you and your ship to leave.=^= The voice came in through the ship's communications, but the system appeared to be off-line, which meant that there had to be some other sort of means that they were communicating. "Captain Toulin, I am Captain Capps of the USS Boudicca of the United Federation of Planets. Your action here and now could constitute an act of war." Capps replied, but there was no answer. A moment later he added, "Report!" "Captain," Deynyk quickly chimed in, "I'm reading a massive power drain on all ship's systems. Main power and systems are off-line. Secondary systems are also off-line. We are running on emergency battery power at present, we have at critical systems consumption... 24 hours at most. Tactical systems are offline." Dey reported. "I've never seen a power drain like this before, sir. It also seems that Toulin can somehow utilize our communications system despite the fact that they are off-line. I suggest that we proceed with extreme caution." (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca – Sickbay – aCMO Ensign Mia Saryn – 0431) Mia walked back into sickbay and saw that the few people that were there when she left had themselves left. Glancing around she found Lizzy in the office and she walked in and said, “Anything happen whilst I was gone?” (Reply Caspian) Mia sat in the seat opposite her and sighed. She glanced at the tricorder that held her readings and thought back to the small stretching of the truth that she had just told. It made her sad that she had to do that. She closed her eyes and felt herself feel sleepy. She heard Lizzy say something but couldn't reply. The door opened and there he stood before her. He looked surprised to see her and then his face turned to something else. His voice betrayed him most. Dragging her into the hotel room, he said, angrily, “Mia, what the hell are you doing here?” She glared back at him and said, “I could ask you the same question, Saryn.” He sighed and replied, “Mia, you know I can't talk about my work.” She shook her head and walked towards the curtained window. Looking through the small gap to the street outside, she caught sight of a few people arriving at the building across the street. She turned back to him and said, “But this isn't about your work, is it?” She looked at what he was wearing and sighed. Continuing, she could feel her anger rise, “I mean, why did you hide this from me, Saryn? Something this important to you. What is it? Do you not trust me?” She watched his eyes close and open again with a realisation behind them that he had done something wrong. He walked towards her and said, “Mia, it's hard to explain. I just couldn't take the risk.” She opened her eyes and saw Lizzy looking at her, a little concerned. Mia sighed and said, “I'm okay. Honestly, Lizzy. I'm fine.” (Reply Caspian) Mia shook her head. She didn't want to discuss this with anyone other than Saryn but now was not the time. She glanced at the tricorder again and said, “Not right now. We have more pressing concerns.” (Reply Caspian) Mia placed the tricorder infront of her and said, “Run these scans through the computer for me. I want to make sure of the readings before I go to Commander Jackson.” (Reply caspian) Mia nodded and said, “Just run the scans, would you? One team went to the Shuttle Bay and the other went to secure the port. The ship continued to be pulled with no explanation. A theory was posed that we were being directed by a subspace river. He felt that was the best theory at the moment. Just then his tactical system went offline as other systems. A CPT Toulin spoke over the COMM stating that he meant no harm to us but needed something from our cargo hold. The increasing number of mines appearing long and wide was very troubling indeed. CPT Capps said to proceed with caution. He agreed with this action. "I sense that he is telling the truth sir but I can't read any further than that. "Commander Jackson work with Ensign Trei in analyzing the damage by the mines. If we have to get out of here attempt to figure out how many times we can get hit before we are rendered useless." "Aye Aye Captain" Tom replied and went to Denton Trei's console and sat next to him. "Denton, any initial thoughts?" Jackson asked. (Reply: Trei) "Do see anything we can use as a means to map the mine field." Jackson asked? (Reply:Trei) Tom listen as Trei relayed his interpretations of the readings he had. They sat and thought for a few moments. Tom asked the question he had hesitated to ask that being how many hits could the Boudicca take before it suffered damage, "Ok, how many mine collisions can the Boudicca sustain before damage at a level that would disable the ship?" Tom asked. (posted by Bill West) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 0435) "Captain," Deynyk quickly chimed in, "I'm reading a massive power drain on all ship's systems. "I sense that he is telling the truth sir but I can't read any further than that. I can't pick up what he after as if he is blocking me. Caution is the best option sir," Ensign Trei stated. Calvin listened to the reports from his senior officers. Toulin was no longer sending any messages, the Boudicca was stuck in what Deynyk had discovered as a subspace current, and the ship was being powered by emergency reserves. The situation was dire, but action needed to be underway and immediately. The Captain moved over to his aCEO, "Ensign Jacobs began working on getting the main power back on. Team up with Lieutenant Rinn if you need a extra hand." (reply Jacobs, rfm) Captain Capps then stepped away from Henry and walked to where his First Officer and Ensign Trei stood. "What are we looking at?" (reply Jackson, Trei) "Understood. With the power out, moving through the mine field really isn't a choice anyway. I am more concerned with our supplies in the cargo bays. Commander take Ensign Trei and meet up with the team down there to fend off any boarding party the best you can." (reply Jackson, Trei) "The turbolifts are offline, so you will have to take back way through the jefferies tubes and ladders. Hope you two have been working out." (reply Jackson, Trei) As the two walked away Calvin moved over to his chair but couldn't sit down. He felt like there was something else he could be doing to help. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - aCEO Ensign Henry Jacobs - 0436) The captain was putting Jacobs on the spot. He wanted to detect all the mines that were present. There was no doubt in Jacobs' mind that he could do it he was just caught off guard and expected to perform. "Sir, I can do it. However, this is more of a task of our new deflector dish. I have been reading up on it. The focused beam will be much more affective from there." "Work on that, and we shall need it within minutes Ensign Jacobs," the captain responded. Jacobs was prepared to do it and he had the perfect person on the bridge with him to assist. He looked over to Ensign Romanoff who had become quite familiar with the new deflector. Nickolas was already looking in his direction, typing commands into the computer while he expected to hear the chief engineer issue the order. Romanoff didn't give him the pleasure. "Already coming online chief," he stated as he issued more commands into the console. "Power output is nominal. Just aligning the deflector relays for concentrated burst." Once everything was online Nickolas gave a nod to Jacobs. Jacobs swiveled in his chair and cleared his throat to get the captain's attention. "What do you have," the captain asked. "Captain, deflector dish is aligned and ready to emit. I suggest multiple sustained bursts. Each burst would be more concentrated than a continuous beam." "By all means lets try it," the captain replied. He planned to vent the nacelles plasma as a conductor for the tachyon bursts from the deflector dish. "Engineering begin venting the stored plasma from the warp nacelles," commanded to his engineering team over the comm system. The readout from the computer stated 30,000 kilomoles had been expunged from the nacelles. The view screen confirmed this as it displayed a blue mist permeating through the space just ahead of the nacelles. "Nick, now," he spoke and pointed at the same time to Romanoff to begin the particle bursts. It worked. The mines began to decloak all over the view screen. It was a personal victory for himself seeing as how he did not screw in front of everyone. The victory, however, was short lived as the ship came to a stop. It was followed by a shipwide power failure and the announcement of who was responsible for what was happening of late. Jacobs witnessed as his captain assserted his power and debated with the villan Toulin. What was coming next was no surprise to him. The Captain moved over to his aCEO, "Ensign Jacobs began working on getting the main power back on. Team up with Lieutenant Rinn if you need a extra hand." The only surprise was that he had been offered some help. The point of the matter was that he needed to get to work on repairs and restoring power. The work that needed to be done was not going to be on the bridge. He grabbed his padds and headed out to make his way to main engineering. CPT Capps ordered Jackson and him to to go the Cargo Bay and help fend off the attack or prevent any cargo from being taken. That suited him fine foe he was always up for a fight. (posted by Edward Engel) (USS Boudicca Bridge Lt Commander Tom Jackson 0441) Tom was trying to help the bridge crew come up with some answers. Sadly, not much data was uncovered that might lead to a resolution of the current crisis. Captain Capps issued a flurry of orders. "Commander what are we looking at?" the CO asked. Tom looked at the readouts and thought for a second. "Sir, we are currently unable to positively mapthe mine field. Mr. Trei estimates that we can sustain 18 more collisions before we are disabled" Tom paused to allow any questions. The captain replied mirroring Tom's thoughts replying "Understood. With the power out, moving through the mine field really isn't a choice anyway. I am more concerned with our supplies in the cargo bays. Commander take Ensign Trei and meet up with the team down there to fend off any boarding party the best you can." "Aye, aye Captain. Mr Trei, have a fully armed team meet us at corridor crossing closest to the cargo bay" The First Officer ordered" Tom ordered. (Reply: Trei) Captain Capps reminded them that the turbo lifts were off kine and they'd have to get there the old fashioned way - climbing thru the Jeffries tubes and down turboshaft ladders. Tom was sure Trei would make it fine and he personally would try his best. Turning to his friend Tom ordered "After you Mr. Trei". Each grabbed a phaser from the bridge supply and headed off. "The subspace current is still blocking the transporters. We have to wait for it to hit the 3rd trough before we can beam you and your team over." "I know how it works, just get it done." It was a difficult situation that she had discovered but also one that she knew they could cope with. Walking into the cargo bay, she gazed around for a second. Spotting what she had come for, she walked towards the stack of cargo containers and knelt behind them, trying to fish out what she had come for. Suddenly, she heard a transporter beam and she froze. Voices that she didn't recognise and then the unmistakable sound of a phaser being fired and a body falling. Poking her head out from around the cargo containers, she spotted the invading forces and crept back to her hiding place. This was something serious. ~Oh great, How do I always seem to get myself into these situations.~ Thinking to herself of ways to get out of the cargo bay without being seen, she couldn't think of one. And now, she realised she was without a weapon as well. But, some of the cargo she knew had been a new consignment of phaser rifles heading for the security department. ~If I could reach them then i'd have a fighting chance to help.~ Sighing, her mind threatening to leave her in fright of what was happening infront of her, she turned and realised that she was trapped. It was about this time that Mia entered Sickbay. “Anything happen whilst I was gone?” Mia asked as she crossed into sickbay "Nothing we couldn't handle." replied Elizabeth, has Mia took a seat next to her, and glanced at her tricorder she seemed lost in thought for a moment. "Is everything OK, Mia." Elizabeth asked concerned, but her words seemed lost on her friend It took a few moments till Mia again opened her eyes. Elizabeth had a good ideal of what was going on. Memories from long ago especially strong ones were had to suppress. But Elizabeth also knew it was better to get this done and over with in the relative calm instead of having this series of events happen at a more critical juncture. “I'm okay. Honestly, Lizzy. In time the old difficult symbiont would tell all. Mia handed Elizabeth a tricorder saying that at that time there were more pressing concerns. "Oh" was all Lizzy could say. “Run these scans through the computer for me. (Reply: Any security team members) The team medic quickly began working on the fallen man. Tom popped up and fired. As Jackson dropped down he saw one of the boarding party fall. The boarders were gaining ground slowly. It was time to act quickly. Motioning Trei over Tom had an idea. "Ensign, take half of the team re-enter the Jeffries tube. "Understood sir. follow me team" He took the team up through the tube and dropped behind the intruders as expected. He ordered the men to secure the exits. He then went into action. He ran up behind two of the intruders. He applied the Vulcan Nerve Pinch to one thanks to Dorga Cha'Noras for teaching him that trick and clamped a strong commando "sleeper hold" on another. He pushed the other intruders to his team at the exits and they collectively bludgeoned the intruders into submission. Before the Klingon could get his hands on Toulin he ordered who ever was left to fall back. He would have to rethink this through. "Let's fall back," Toulin said regrettably. Four of bandits didn't make it to the fall back point; they had been captured by the native people of the ship. Now safe behind another wall he evaluated the situation. Four included himself and his first lieutenant Becks were still standing. If there were no more surprises Toulin believed he could still turn this around in his favor. Ral had wish that Captain Capps would have just laid down and taken the clue like most the previous ships had. It made it much more difficult for him to do his job when they had to fight their way through a captured ship. He checked his weapon once again ensuring himself that it was only set on stun. If Toulin had everything his way he would have had his weapon set on something a lot more strong. Even though he was captain of his own starship, he was only 1 of 7 captains in the colony. Mia told Lizzy she wanted to check on a few things but Lizzy knew better she wanted to go clear her head. Especially since she found out the news about the First officers unborn twins. Elizabeth let Mia have her space hoping the rest of the morning would be uneventful. It did not take long for her hopes to be shattered, when all of a sudden all the lights went out and power was lost throughout the ship. Soon the lights kicked in and brought back to the illuminated din of emergency power. Elizabeth acted un-phased by the sudden development, even though internally she was shaken beyond belief. Has she started issuing orders. "You," she pointed to a medical engineer. "Cut medical from the main power feed and bring the back up power generators online, use whatever help you need." "Medical response teams one and two get ready to deploy." Elizabeth continued. "Everyone else get ready for injured, Cut all unnecessary power feeds, if the beds aren't needed power them down. She looked around. "You four grab phasers and place yourself around the around medical's entry, no one not part of this ship gets though you hear me, make sure all phasers are set to a heavy stun." Elizabeth then hit her comm-badge to open a comm-line to bring Mia back to medical. "Caspian to Saryn..." no response. "Caspian to the Bridge." She tried but still to no avail. Elizabeth still had one method of communication that could bridge the gap. Elizabeth opened her mind, has she conscientiousness flowed about the ship it took a few minutes to get the whole picture. In her minds eye she could see the fire fight outside Cargo Bay 1 and see that Mia was stuck with that particular bay, but not in harms way has a federation force had flanked her way and would soon be on her position. It seemed the Klingon had already recovered and his team was now moving back toward them. The enemy had caught up with Toulins men that were being used as a buffer in between where he stood and the Cargobay. The Captain knew he didn't have much time before he and his first lieutenant would be caught. He focused his attention back to Becks. “Sir, was there ever any doubt that I wouldn’t have a back up plan?” She patted the small bag that hung around her shoulders and said, “Little insurance policy…. Completely non-lethal. I promise.” "What do'ya have there," his words blurred together. “It’s an old earth military technique I’ve been working on. This is a flash bang grenade. I followed the same principle from the history books but added a little something extra.” "Oh," Ral was intrigued. He knew only Becks would have thought about this idea. It was, in Toulins eyes, a last resort which is exactly where they both stood in the situation. “These babies, whilst still giving out the standard Flash of light and loud bang, will also pump out a huge amount of smoke for cover. I’ve brought quite a few with me but in this area, two should be plenty. I also took the liberty of bringing these….” She held out small breathing apparatus’, four of them for the remaining of their party and continued, “There’s gonna be a hell of a lot of smoke. What do you think?” "Why haven't you thrown those babies yet," he semi shouted in a hurry as he looked back down the corridor at the Klingon and on coming forces. “Hold onto your hats, gentlemen.” She fixed the breather to her mouth and threw the grenades into the main cargo bay area. As Ral watched Becks place the breather on so did he. He raised his weapon and readied himself to throw himself into danger. He knew that the plan had somehow deviated for his first lieutenant which meant that the plan to take over this ship was now lost. He and his crew will have to go to plan B. Toulin reached in his front jacket pocket near his chest and unzipped a hidden compartment. He clicked the small device inside and he and he alone vanished from the Boudicca. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - Outside Cargobay - Lieutenant Sarah Becks - 0512) A smile grew over Becks’ face as she looked at Toulin. This was why he’d chosen her for this role and this mission. She always, always came prepared. Winking, she replied, “Sir, was there ever any doubt that I wouldn’t have a back up plan?” She patted the small bag that hung around her shoulders and said, “Little insurance policy…. Completely non-lethal. I promise.” She placed the bag infront of her and reached in, (Reply Toulin) Becks, removing her hand in which she held a small and rather innocuous metal sphere. Showing it to Toulin, she said, “It’s an old earth military technique I’ve been working on. This is a flash bang grenade. I followed the same principle from the history books but added a little something extra.” (Reply Toulin) “These babies, whilst still giving out the standard Flash of light and loud bang, will also pump out a huge amount of smoke for cover. I’ve brought quite a few with me but in this area, two should be plenty. I also took the liberty of bringing these….” She held out small breathing apparatus’, four of them for the remaining of their party and continued, “There’s gonna be a hell of a lot of smoke. What do you think?” (Reply Toulin) Becks smiled widely and, creeping forward to a position where she could comfortabley throw the grenades, said, “Hold onto your hats, gentlemen.” She fixed the breather to her mouth and threw the grenades into the main cargo bay area. A tremendous bang and flash filled the cargo bay as the grenades exploded, spewing smoke heavily through the area. Becks waited for Toulin to give the order to move out and followed cautiously, weapon raised. They seemed to encounter little resistance and could hear the coughing and spluttering of the various crew through the fog. Suddenly, Becks heard some movement from a walkway above them and swirled. She could see someone moving about up there but couldn’t quite see them clearly. Firing a phaser shot at them, the light illuminated a face that she hadn’t seen in years. A feeling of rage entered her mind closely followed by flashes of memories of some steamy nights. She glanced at Toulin, who was occupied pushing the team forward and thought to herself, ~I’m sorry, but this is personal. This is revenge and I’m taking the opportunity whilst I can.~ She moved up the nearest ladder, silently and crept along the walkway until she was so close to her prey she could smell him. Taking in a deep breath, she said, “Alright Tom.” And threw a punch directly at Jackson’s head. Feeling the satisfying pain in her knuckles as the punch hit home, she watched as he crumpled onto the floor and rolled to face her. Smiling, wickedly, she walked to him and said, “Long time, no see, Mr Jackson. You still owe me latinum, you ferengi wannabe.” She aimed a well placed kick to his ribs and smiled as he groaned in pain. “Come on, Tom…. No kind words for your ex-lover?” (posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca Deck 20 FO Lcdr Tom Jackson 0513) The fight was about even to this point. Each side has suffered casulaties none too serious. A loud band along with a huge cloud of smoke enveloped the bay m. This caught Tom and his forces off guard. The smoke slowed time to a crawl. Jackson started coughing and dropped his guard. He didn't see the stealthy figure approaching. His heart froze when he heard the one voice he'd hoped to never hear again called out "Alright Tom" and his mind exploded into stars and he staggered back. Becks continued her assault on her ex-lover with hard swift kick to his ribs. Jackson groaned. Becks was merciless. Tom swept bis arm out causing his tormenter tio stumble towards Tom. (post by Bill West) (USS Boudicca - Outside Cargobay - Nikoli Jeswa - 0514) It had only been the third raid Nikoli had been a part of and the first two had gone extremely smooth. He did not expect nor did he even think raids could go terribly wrong such as this one. His roommate and friend had been captured from the first wave of security officers. He did everything he could, short of killing anyone, to get him back. In the end the only thing he accomplished was to get himself caught. The large Klingon now towered over him. He had already asked his question once but Nikoli stood strong and didn't speak. He didn't believe that he was in any mortal danger at the moment. When the loud bang rang in his ears and the corridor and cargobay began to fill with with smoke he thought this was his moment, his chance, his rescue. But relief never came. A woman held on to him tightly as she covered her mouth to cough. The smoke filled his lungs as well and there was nothing he could do except to fall to his knees attempting to get his breath back. The over grown being in front clearly fought through the smoke and bang well. When Nikoli was able to see again he was again asked the same question. "Who are you and what do you want?" Detron bellowed. Nikoli once again didn't speak. He had been caught. The only thing he hoped for now was pity from his enemies and bravery from his comrades over on his ship. Pushing her whole weight against him, she growled, “Remember that night on the Boradin? You know I still have the scars…. Wanna see?” She kissed him, hungrily and then pulled back. (Reply Jackson) A laugh escaped her lips as he spoke and pushed her back against the wall opposite. She could tell he wasn’t happy to see her and this only made it all the sweeter. Gasping as her head hit the wall, she yelled, “And here was me thinking that you’d gone soft putting on this uniform.” (Reply Jackson) Her palm flew across his face and she said, “You….. You wanna play it this way, do you? Perhaps Capps would like to know that his esteemed First Officer gets his kicks from hitting defenceless women?” She glanced at his hand as a sparkle of gold caught her eyes. “So some poor fool was crazy enough to actually marry you? Maybe I should have a talk with your wife and tell her what sort of a man you really are?” (Reply Jackson) She winced as his punch hit home and she felt a small trickle of blood run down her cheek. Smiling, she glared at him, “See, I knew you were in there somewhere. What are you waiting for or do you need an incentive?” She slapped him, hard across the face again. (Reply Jackson) She gasped as pain exploded across her ribs. Grimacing, she said, in a low whisper, “Come on, Tommy boy. You know you still want me.” (Reply Jackson) Fury flew through her mind and she slung her fist at him. Laughing as he staggered backwards, blood now on his cheek, she smiled widely and said, “Oh come on, Tommy boy, you can do…….” A pain hit her. She felt her brow furrow as blackness crept over her. Mia moved with them as they moved further into the cargo bay. She kept her phaser out infront of her and walked slowly but purposefully. Soon enough, they came upon some of the intruders. Trei signalled to her to keep her phaser on the intruders as he moved forward, "Who are you and what do you want?" he bellowed at the intruders. Suddenly, a loud bang and a flash filled the cargo bay followed by thick plumes of smoke. She began to cough and splutter almost immediately. Saryn was not happy at this turn of events and constantly moaned in her mind that she was impetuous and always got herself into these situations. Keeping her phaser on the intruder, she rubbed her eyes as they streamed. It is not up to me so lets see what CDR Jackson has to say about you. Bind his feet and hands tight. Lets go see the CDR." Two security officers bound the intruder as ordered. They flanked him for the drag trip down the hall. He and Saryn followed behind until they came upon CDR Jackson fighting a woman intruder. Spotting him, she gasped in shock as they saw him fighting with a woman intruder. It was eviden, well at least to Saryn, that this was not your normal scrap with an intruder. This was something different. It seemed more personal somehow. She watched as Trei took out the intruder and then spoke, "I captured him down the hall. What are your orders sir?" Mia looked at the Commander and shook her head. His injuries were evident and before he could reply to his chief of security, she stepped forward and said, "Uh uh. No orders. At least not from you. Now, gentlemen, it's pretty evident that the Commander needs to go to sickbay." She paused as she saw Jackson open his mouth to retort and held a hand up to silence him, saying, "No Commander. Doctor's orders. Go to sickbay. Now! Or do i have to tell the Captain that you refused to get treated and violated Doctor's orders?" (Reply Jackson) Mia nodded and said, "These pirates will still be here. Go. See Doctor Caspian. I will be back shortly." She watched as Jackson left and then turned to Trei and said, "I'm sorry about that, but i also know he wouldn't have gone if i hadn't. Can you take these guys to the brig, separate cells and i'll come down later to sort out their injuries." She glanced down at the now unconscious woman at her feet and said, "I suspect the Captain will have some questions for them." ~Especially this one.~ she thought. The trip was hard but not that taxing. The weight of the intruders made the trip a bit more taxing than he thought. He ordered the female intruder to be secured first in the right cell. He took care of the male intruder and secured him in the left cell. "Unbind the intruder. You will have the Captain to deal with now." He initiated the force fields and waited for CPT Capps to come. But well deal with her later." She smiled has she put a calming and on his shoulder "But I'll keep that between us." She smiled. (reply Jackson.) "For now lets get you fixed up." Lizzy continued has a tricorder appeared in her hand and she began to run a few scans "Hmmmm," Elizabeth commented has she placed the tricorder down and went to a table and picked up a hypospray, a demal regenerator, and a osteogenic stimulator. "It seems that besides a few bumps and bruises you also have a couple of cracked ribs. Whoever your friend is I don't think they held back." (reply Jackson) "Were gonna start with this." She held the hypospray and dialed up the desired dosage. "5cc Terakine that should ease the pain she pressed the device to Tom's neck and injected the drug into his system. (reply Jackson, iyw) Lizzy was a surgeon though and though has she worked on Tom more serious wounds first. She held the osteogentic stimulator and pressed it lightly to his rib cage to where the cracked ribs were located the area was surrounded with a large black and blue bruise and swelling. The small device went to it's work. "You may feel a slight tingling sensation has the bones mend. Luckly they are only cracked and don't need to be set." Elizabeth commented making small talk she knew it was a good way to help lower the anxiety one normally feels when undergoing a medical procedure and this was probably the most time consuming of all the work that needed to be done. (reply Jackson, iyw) Once the bones were mended she went to working on the rest of the slight injuries, nothing that a dermal regenerator couldn't fix. She smiled has she hummed a slight tune, it didn't take long after that to get the FO back to top form. "There you go, now I want to take it easy for the next day or two those ribs are still a bit tender and I want them to strengthen a bit before you try to save the federation.... He could hear shouting coming from the other side of the hatch so he proceeded with caution. He opened the hatch slowly and crawled out to find that there was no one on the top level with him. The shouting continued. Henry walked over to the railing to see where the shouting was coming from. Down below he saw seven engineers wrangled in a circle by intruders with rifles. They weren't outnumbered by the intruders so he didn't know why they had all been captured. Apparently they must have been caught off-guard which didn't sit well with Jacobs. ~It doesn't look good for an engineer to be caught off guard. Looks like I have to schedule some more drills.~ Putting the joke aside Henry had to return power to the ship and he was going to need the help of his team. He looked around to see if there was anything he could use to his advantage. Against the far wall was the weapons locker, but he alone would not be able to shoot down all of the intruders. He grabbed four of the standard issue phasers and pinned them to his uniform then returned to the railing. Looking to his right he saw a padd and could use it to get the other crew members attention. The lights for engineering were in reaching distance from Henry and he figured he could reflect some light with the padd and get the others attention. He raised his arm and the light refraction hit one of the ensigns dead in the eye. he looked up to see Jacobs waving at him with one hand and holding the other over his mouth to tell him to be quiet. The others saw Jacobs soon after and were quickly filled with hope. Through a few hand signals of communication everyone on the lower level was prepared to overtake their captures. Henry raised a phaser to the lighting right above the trapped crew. He shot at it to expose the phosphorus within and force it to coat the people below. This grabbed the attention of the intruders and they began shooting in his direction. Henry continued firing at all the other lighting in the room until darkness fell. The intruders ceased firing since they could no longer see around them and this was exactly what Henry wanted. Knowing that the coast was clear he peered over the railing to see down below. The phosphorus from the lighting illuminated anything with a copper-alloy base; most particularly the commbadges of the crew and the weapons that the intruders were wielding. From that point it was a simple matter of picking off the intruders with his phaser. The crew members had already been instructed to stay together as to avoid being shot at in the cross fire. Two minutes later back up lighting came online and engineering had been secured. "All right people, we will talk about how they got the drop on you later. Right now we need power back on line immediately." The words escaped his mouth as he climbed down a ladder to reach the others. There was minimal damage to the systems in engineering so everyone there got right to work, not wasting any further time. He was certain he wasn't ready to hear more upsetting news about how his crew had responded to the situation. “Whilst Trei and I were dealing with some of the pirates, Commander Jackson was engaged in, what I can only describe as a battle with a female intruder that, somehow, seemed more personal than anything else. In fact, i'm pretty sure she called him by his first name.” This certainly peaked Captain Capps' interest. He leaned in. "Please go on." She nodded and said, “If I may speak freely?” Calvin nodded his head in approval and waited for Mia to continue. Mia leant forward in the chair a little and said, “I know I have no place to say this but, tread carefully. If this is someone from his past, it maybe something that he may not want to revisit.” The words 'tread carefully' repeated in his mind. He admitted to himself that these words coming from his aCMO did anger him a little. But he also realized that she was only being a professional officer on his ship revealing her concerns. He could completely understand the reasoning behind someone not wanting to have their past coming back to haunt them, but if there was anyway this new information could be helpful; Calvin would use it. "Ensign Saryn, thank you for this information. And I shall always appreciate your professional opinions. Unfortunately I believe this information maybe helpful in getting us out of this situation. I will however, tread lightly, as you put it." (reply Saryn, room for more if necessary) "Good. If you will return to sickbay and check on Commander Jackson. Finally, there was a beep from his console that told him everything he needed to know. He glanced up just in time to see the Captain and Doctor Saryn step into the ready room. As soon as the man spotted him, the Trill operations officer was ready. "Captain!" he called across the bridge. "I have some data that is going to help us get back underway, and that will also possibly help us track our mysterious pirate ship." (reply Capps) "I conducted a multispectral analysis of the complete power distribution system and I discovered why we suddenly lost power. Just before complete power loss the Boudicca was struck by a grade six subphasic burst of energy, that originated when the mines stuck us and detonated. That explains the lack of physical damage. The bursts interact with our navigational screens by converting the high energy particles into a transitional balyric charge. This charge adheres to the EPS conduit casings and the additional energy field causes the magnetic waveguides to narrow until almost no power can pass through the constriction." "It's a very ingenious weapon, really. but it's easy to overcome. You re-polarize the EPS conduits with a Saltoric radiation burst. It breaks down the Balyric charge and once the charge is gone the magnetic waveguides return to normal and power is restored. This has to be done by hand and is hazardous requiring a type four hazmat suit to be worn, to protect against the upper elements decay as they are decontaminated. We'd also have to move crew out of the areas as we treat them to avoid radiation injuries." (reply Capps) "As to how it helps us. That ship had to have been within range of the bursts. they reacted too fast to the event. A database search revealed that Tricobalt-carbon ceramic alloy sheathing can be used to shield against that sort of radiation. Which means that the pirate vessel has to have it. The catch is that exposure builds up a subspace charge, which affects the ship's warp field and coils. We can attune the sensors to possible pick up on that charge." (reply Capps) Deynyk shrugged. "I don't know it depends on how many handheld decontamination units engineering can put together to emit Saltoric radiation and how many Haz-4 suits they have. I'd say four men can probably decontaminate the majority of the primary systems within 4 to 6 hours." Take a seat on the biobed and i'll get the scans running.” (Reply Dahlia) Mia looked at her, reassuringly and said, “Right, the scan is running. It takes a couple of minutes so try and lie still. I'm just going to nip back into my office for a moment and then i'll be right back.” (Reply Dahlia) Mia walked back towards her office and, on spotting Lizzy, beckoned her to come with. Once in the seclusion of the office, she said, “This is the part of the job I hate. Giving this kind of news.” (Reply Caspian) Mia nodded and replied, “Oh I know. We take the rough with the smooth.” She sighed and then continued, “I suppose i'd better bite the bullet and get the Commander down here as well.” (Reply Caspian) Mia tapped her combadge and said, =/\= Saryn to Jackson. =/\= (Reply Jackson) =/\= Sir, could you come down to sickbay? I need to talk to you.=/\= (Reply Jackson) =/\= I'd prefer to discuss that when you get here. But I would advise sooner rather than later. =/\= (Reply Jackson) Mia turned to Lizzy and said, “God, I hope this isn't too hard on them.” (posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca Sick Bay Dahlia Jackson 0705) Dahlia entered sick bay with some fear. She was ok but was worried for the babies. She spotted Mia Saryn and waved heading in her direction. Mia saw the FO's wife and walked to meet her. Dahlia appeared very worried and asked the doctor "What is the problem Mia?". Mia looked at the FO's wife and said "I want check the earlier readings. Would you lie on this bio bed? this should not take long". Dahlia laid down on the bed and scanning process began. Mia excused herself and went into her office. The readings caused her to worry. (posted by Bill West) (USS Boudicca Bridge LCDR Tom Jackson FO 0709) Tom was deeply engrossed in the puzzling situation before Boudicca. His concentration was broken when Mia's call came through. =^= Dr. Saryn to Cmdr. Jackson =^= Tapping his comm badge Tom said "go ahead Doctor" Mia relayed her desire to have Tom come to Sick Bay and speak to him there. Jackson turned to the CO and asked "Permission to head to sick bay Sir?". (Reply: CO) Having gotten permission to leave Tom headed to sick bay with all sorts of things running thru his mind. (posted by Bill West) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 0710) Calvin was sitting in the center chair working with the Engineering department to return the Boudicca back up to normal operation when his First Officer turned to him. "Permission to head to sick bay Sir?" "Yes. Return as soon as you can Commander." Tom left the bridge as the Captain returned back to his work. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca – Sickbay - Ensign(jg) Elizabeth Caspian, Dr. - Day 14 - 0713) I was turning into the kind of day you would just want to crawl right back into bed and forget all about happening. (posted by Matthew Locke) (USS Boudicca – Sickbay – ACMO Ensign Mia Saryn – 0715) Mia walked back to Dahlia and glanced at the scans that she had set running. She sighed inwardly as they only confirmed her fears. She smiled at the lady lying before her and said, “Okay, the tests are nearly done. Won't be a couple of moments.” (Reply Dahlia) Mia nodded and gently squeezed her shoulder and said, “Dahlia, you're in good hands. I'll be right back.” Mia turned to walk back to her office and to talk with Lizzy when she spotted Commander Jackson walk through the doors and into Sickbay. She nodded an hello to him and walked up to his side and said, “Sir, Why don't you go and wait with Dahlia for a moment? I just want to talk to Doctor Caspian and we'll be right with you.” (Reply Jackson) Mia glanced at the Commander's wife a moment and then, turning back to him, said, “Sir, everything will be fine. Go hug your wife. I think she needs a little comfort.” (Reply Jackson) She walked into the office and sighed, “Okay, Lizzy, the scans are done.” (Reply Caspian) Mia sighed and replied, “It's as we thought. Commander Jackson's here so let's go tell them.” (Reply Caspian) Mia nodded. Saryn had been where the Jacksons were now more than once and she was greatful for that as she could understand what must be going through the couples mind right now. She knew how worried they were and what thoughts were running through their heads. Mia glanced out and watched them for a moment. ~Lord, why do bad things always happen to good people~ She thought to herself as she picked up her Padd and walked towards the couple. She pulled a chair next to the bed that Dahlia was now sitting up on and looked at them both and said, “Okay. As you know I ran some scans earlier this morning of you Dahlia.” (Reply Jacksons) Mia bit her bottom lips a moment and then replied, “We checked them against the scans I have just run and it confirmed our initial diagnosis.” She glanced at the Padd in her hands and continued, “Before I continue, I just want to say one thing, and I know that this is easy to say but please, try not to worry.” (Reply Jacksons) Mia nodded, glanced at Lizzy and then spoke, “There's no easy way to say this. I found something in the scans. It seems that your twins are suffering from a condition called twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.” (Reply Jacksons) Mia sighed and replied, “Basically, in a normal twin pregnancy there is only one placenta and both babies use a portion. With this, blood can be transferred disproportionately from one twin to the other. The transfusion causes the donor twin to have decreased blood volume, slowing the donor's development and growth. The other twin, the recipient, has increased blood volume, which can strain their heart.” She paused a moment and continued, “The good news is that we caught this early and we have a number of options open to us.” (Reply Jacksons) “Well, the best option would be to try and regulate the babies blood supply. Now, the way we would do this would be to try and cauterise the vessels that are taking the blood from one twin to the other. It would mean a small surgical procedure that Dr Caspian would be able to perform.” (Reply Caspian) Mia turned back to the Jacksons and continued, “The other option we have is to try and relieve some of the pressure in the amniotic sac of the larger twin by removing some of the amniotic fluid. Studies have shown that this can stabilise the foetus. However, it does not always work.” (Reply Jacksons) Mia watched them as their happy world came crashing down around them and the enormity of this problem began to hit home. She could see it in their faces. Mia leant forward and placed a reassuring hand on Dahlia's knee and, squeezing it gently, said, “Dahlia, we caught this early. We will get it sorted and we certainly will look after you. I promise you both that.” (Reply Jacksons) Mia rose from her chair and said, “Take some time. Please do. Dahlia, you are free to go but we would like to see you back tomorrow.” (Reply Jacksons) Mia nodded and watched them walk out of sickbay. Leaning against the biobed, she placed her head in her hands and said, “I knew this was going to be a bad day.” (Reply Caspian) Mia rubbed her forehead and, turning to her, said, “I know. It's a blessing we caught this now.... otherwise...” (Reply Caspian) Mia nodded and replied, “Right, I need to get out of here for a few minutes. Mind holding the fort whilst I go get some breakfast?” (Reply Caspian) Mia smiled at her and said, “You're a good friend, Lizzy. What would I do without you? Oh, whilst I remember, could you look after Ensign Sorien for me please? I won't be long but she's due to start her shift shortly and I will be back. Just incase she comes in early?” (Reply Caspian) Mia smiled and walked out of sickbay, feeling like the weight of the world was on her shoulders. (posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca Sick Bay Lt. commander Tom and Dahlia Jackson 0720) Tom and Dahlia listened as Doctor Saryn asked that Tom hug his wife. She said she'd return momentarily. For once Tom did as he was asked. Mia explained that the twins were in some peril but not to wiry. Tom nodded his understanding and hugged Dahlia again. The twins were suffering from something called twin to twin transfusion. As Tom understood this was where one placenta feed both embryo's. Tom looked at his wife for a long moment before replying "what are the options?" Mia responded with suggested a management of the blood flow situation. She aslo outlined a few other options each with an increasing risk factor. Tom looked at his wife pDahlia was close to tears and hugged her tightly. Tom told the doctors "thanks". No one was in a good mood. Mia told Dahlis that she needed to be seen to tomorrow morning. "She'll be here you can count on that" Tom answered for his wife. (Reply: Mia and or Lizzy) The Jacksons left arm in arm to a fate not yet determined. (posted by Bill West) (USS Boudicca – QV – Ensign Mia Saryn – 0801) Mia sat by the window and sighed. Watching the stars always calmed her and Saryn alike. It was as if they took away the stress and worry that came with being a doctor and right now, she needed that more than ever. She suddenly noticed a shadow fall nearby and a voice spoke, (Reply Jacobs) Mia turned and saw Henry. She sighed and said, “Oh the one person I needed to see right now and here you are.” (Reply Jacobs) She waited until he sat next to her and rested her head on his shoulders and said, “Just sit here with me.” (posted by Jackie Smith) ================================================================ Mission: Bandits on the Surface Day 15 Stardate: 2414.03.12 ================================================================ (USS Boudicca - Deck 4 - Shuttle Bay - aCEO Ensign Henry Jacobs - 0900) Henry made his way to the shuttle bay ahead of the others scheduled to make an appearance. Everyone who showed up would take part in building a Lorimar class shuttle that needed to be replaced. Henry had the liberty to fly the Blackwater, the previous shuttle, that the Boudicca housed but unfortunately it was lost during the last encounter with the Borg. Henry was excited to participate in the construction of another vessel. Even more exciting was the fact that all of the department heads would be participating to ensure the shuttle was equipped to the T and an available craft for any type of mission. He knew that everyone scheduled to show would bring valuable insight into the construction process. It was already going over in his head and once his day dream stopped he grinned at the prospect of the only issue being what to name the shuttle. The shuttle bay fortunately for this project was quite vast in space. There was a class nine shuttlecraft over to the stage left of the room but this left more than enough room for everyone to get to work. He walked over to a wall console and started inputting calculations. With enough successful key strokes inputted he turned to face the open space and called out to the computer. "Computer. Upload design specifications for Lorimar class shuttle into holographic imaging," he requested. The computer beeped in compliance although there was no image displayed. ~I wanna make sure we don't corrupt the original file~ he thought to himself before he proceeded on. "Computer copy file. Rename copy BoudiccaShuttleStandard and open for modifications." The computer took a few more seconds than normal but none the less complied and replied by beeping. At the conclusion of the beeps a holo-image of the Lorimar class shuttle appeared. Henry took it all in. He walked around the representation in awe and could only muster up the words. "Nice" He walked back over to a table with several padds and began meticulously reviewing the specs on the little ship. Three of the engineers from the night shift decided to lend a hand. There was nothing worse than a group of engineers sitting around talking about what they could build. They entertained each other with ideas until the department heads arrived. (posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Boudicca - Shuttle Bay - TAC/S ENS(SG) Detron Trei - 09.05) He entered the Shuttle Bay and noticed everyone was hard at work building the new Lorimar class shuttle. Several department heads were there giving their input on what to include in the shuttle. When it came time for his input, he gave it without hesitation although he was not the department head until he gained his rank back. "The shuttle should have ample phaser power and accuracy along with good photon capability. It should also be able to deploy explosive charged projectiles for a surprise attack." He waited for any other questions getting the feel of command once again. (posted by Edward Engel)
