Sleep. You need to keep your strength up. You have to fight this." Smiling down at him, she leant forward and placed a gentle kiss on his forehead and said, “Sleep, Sir.” The Captain felt the small kiss on his forehead and it made him think of his ex-fiance Elizabeth. Elizabeth now resides back on Earth as an instructor at Starfleet Academy. His last conscious thoughts was of her. Her mid length black hair that would lay on her shoulders, her dark green eyes, and he remembered her most standing in front of him in her Starfleet uniform. Both, Calvin and Elizabeth were equally dedicated to Starfleet, unfortunately their dream role in Starfleet differed. That was when the two split and pursued their individual careers. Deep in sleep now Calvin's mind projected a different reality. He was standing in the middle of a desert made up of dull red dry sand. The sun was beaming it's hot rays directly onto his skin. He took in his situation and realized how dire it was. The Captain had no water, no shelter, and nothing to protect him from the sun. He spun in a circle looking all around him, but it wasn't until he heard his name being called did he notice her. He could now see Elizabeth about 100 yards away from his location. She was clearly holding a tin can full of water. He didn't how he knew it was water, but he was sure of it. He began to walk in her direction, but after a minute of traveling he was no closer to Elizabeth. He stopped, sensing that it was useless. He bent over at the waist and began to breath heavily. Soon blood began to drip from his nose. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - Sickbay - ENS Carter Anderson - 0830) Carter stuck around Sick Bay for decontamination and had time to think. He thought about his sister, how she was doing and the fact that he hated medical clinics. He felt sour towards them due to his sister being in one almost all the time. Carter noticed some other crew members were in sick bay as well, he sighed and just sat down on a medical bed. He had to keep to himself, he didn't want his personal problems getting out and being top news around the ship. Keeping to himself was the best thing, tho right now he'd give anything to talk to someone. (Posted Brett Goodson) (USS Boudicca - Sickbay - Decontamination room - Councilor Ensign(jg) Elizabeth Caspian, Dr. - 0833) It was a gift and a curse being a telepath and empath, for has smart Tian was he was also a ball of emotional energy, Lizzy knew that it would be hard for him to sit idly by and not do anything while others were in need of his aid. ~ The heart of a true doctor.~ Lizzy though and smiled to her self. That also meant that sometimes he needed saving from himself. Lizzy agreed the teleport to the decontamination room was uncalled for, and Elizabeth was angry with Mia that she did go to such extremes. But that was something for a later time. Right now she had to help Noble, has he was going toward the decon. room door. Lizzy calmly placed her hand on the man's shoulder. When he felt her hand touch his shoulder he looked back at Liz his eyes were wide has if he almost forgotten she was there. “Are you okay?” he spoke maybe louder than expected. Shaking her head slowly. "Now's not the time Noble." She spoke softly, hiding her anger behind burning eyes. Noble had already been at the receiving end of one of her tongue lashings before, and like she said now was not the time. "Decon. them we can deal with whats going on with the Captain." (reply Noble iyw) Lizzy took a seat on the bench and started taking off the protective suit. Sterile gowns were provided and they would all have to decontaminate in sonic showers that were also with the walls of the room. None of which offered much privacy and no privacy from the observation windows that lined on of the walls. Shortly after Mia's voice came over the rooms com system =/\= Hey guys. I just wanted to apologize for being stern before. You’ve got to understand how dangerous this virus is and how badly we need to keep it contained.=/\= This was something that they all were well versed in. Especially since the zombie outbreak but for the life of her Lizzy could understand why were they not teleported into a secure area, behind a contamination shield that would allow for some leeway and still be able to report on what they had done. Information the medical staff now needed more than ever. Mia continued to talk but it did little to ease the minds of the people stuck in the decon room. She left shortly after having more pressing matters to attend to. Noble again looked at Lizzy seemingly lost, and a bit scared. "Hey look about before I’m sorry if I got you into any trouble.” She smiled at him " Its ok, sometimes these things can't be helped just focus on what needs to be done." Lizzy notcied that Noble started reviewing his PADD, “Will you two come have a look at this?” Tian spoke to his cell mates “Here is the two strands of DNA that the transporter pick up form the captain as you can see the teravere works rapidly. Now if you look at teravere as you see there a few different agents in there what we need to know is what one causes the change.” "That's a good start," Lizzy replied knowing that allowing Noble to find a way to help from outside his cell would be a good way to get him to work out the extra thoughts in his mind and get down to what he needed to do and that was decontaminate. "See if you can transfer the data to the main medical computer so the rest of the medical staff can get to work on that. If we need the extra help we can always activate the EMH to lend a hand." (reply Noble) It seemed this was hard on all that were being held captive in the decon room, and each had there own way of dealing with the inactivity. Lizzy being the ships councilor was in her element to help ever was needed. Walking into the Sonic shower she noticed Anderson sitting on a medical bed, seemingly lost in thought. Lizzy turned on the shower and felt the dirt, grime, and sweat of the protective suits wash away. She wondered why she was the only one to take the advantage of getting out of the uncomfortable garb that they had to wear planetside, and since Lizzy was from Batazed she had no problem about being undressed around others male or females for that matter. "Whats wrong Anderson isn't it?" she asked calmly, from the shower there was nothing better to do than talk for the time being. (reply Anderson.) "I see, I know your new to the Boudicca, I'm Elizabeth Caspian the ships councilor if ever you need someone to talk to." (posted by Matthew Locke) (USS Boudicca - Sickbay - Decontamination room - Asst CMO Ensign Tian Noble. - 0836) "That's a good start," Lizzy replied. "See if you can transfer the data to the main medical computer so the rest of the medical staff can get to work on that. If we need the extra help we can always activate the EMH to lend a hand." “Right” Tian press a few things on the padd then sit it down. Now what he thought there nothing more for him I can do in here. He look down he was still in that stupid suite. Tian stood and started to take off the suite. When he finished he looked at his uniform he was dirty and not very becoming of a doctor. Tian dusted himself off as best he could it would just have to do for now till he could change. He took a seat with the others and waited. So far his mission hasn't ended the way he had expected and he was becoming extremely irritated by it. The beast was unstoppable and uncontrollable, he was shocked when the damn Starfleeters killed his one and only one beast. Sure, he had attempted to birth more than one, but only one live beast pecked its way out of its shell. Once the Boudicca's crew foiled his first plan Deen had to move to plan B. The Teravere, which created the blood sucking monsters, he would attempt to use it on a global scale, he just needed to figure out how. But then the outdated containment pod he traded with some Ferengi failed, releasing the Teravere into the underground compound and its surroundings. Luckily he and the rest of his crew were already medicated with the one and only known antidote for the nerve agent. Somehow the crew of the Federation starship discovered the Teravere and were now on their way down the very tunnel that could lead to him and his staff. But he didn't plan on being around when they busted down the door. He was prepared for such an occasion. He looked around the large room and saw a mixture of science and security men. Each currently doing what they did best. "OKAY!" he screamed so he could be heard. "We will now be moving to my ship except for the detailed security crew. You will stay behind and defend this compound with your lives. Stay here until all the computer banks have been deleted." A few yes sirs echoed around the room, his crew understood their orders. "M'locha to Aquarii, beam us up." (posted by Calvin Capps) (Color II - Temporary Senator Office - Senator Dook Ptogle - 0850) Taking a breath, Mia nodded and replied, “Senator, forgive me. As you can understand, things are a little bit tense here.” "I can, it has been a little tense here as well," the senator barked back with a low stern voice. Thinking to herself, Mia asked, “Sir, is there anyone who might know if anyone has been testing in the region? Perhaps someone who may not have told you?” For the first time during their conversation Dook paused and really thought about the Lieutenant's question. Even after a few seconds passed he could think of no one who would be wanting to mess around with such a dangerous virus. "No." He said with a stern and absolute voice. He felt that he had now answered the same question three times and was eager to end the transmission. Nodding, Mia replied, “Sir, thankyou. If we may, would we be able to contact you?” "I am here to help in anyway, please feel free to contact me at any time. Senator Ptogle out," he tapped a button in front of him to close the call. He was irritated by the officer's questions, but he thought back to the Boudicca's help and began to relax a bit. (posted by Calvin Capps) (Color II - Underground Tunnel - Ensign Emily Star - 0853) "Ensign Star I need you to run constant scans for other life signs other than our own. If there is anyone else down here we will need to find them and all that they know about the Teravere." Emily nodded, "Yes, sir," She took out her tricorder, happy to see it registered nothing out of the ordinary. For a moment, as they walked she wondered if the XO had noticed her compliant attitude had increased. Well at least slightly. The sarcasm was turned down - fear seeming to remove the edge out of her tone. In her opinion, while on the surface they had at least a small advantage as a team however down here they were at the mercy of whatever or whoever knew the tunnels best. As such, Emily decided that her attitude was best served on those that were a direct threat. Once back on the ship - she could return to normal. "I need to know if there is anyone in there before we breach the door." "Huh?" She looked up from her tricorder. Having been focused on the scans, not really paying attention to where they were, "Oh - right." She moved closer to the door and double checked, "I'm not picking up anything but that's to be expected down here and all these mineral deposits are throwing off my readings..." Emily felt something though. Readings or not she was picking up a new being - someone she wasn't familiar with, "Off the record, I'm pretty sure there is someone in there. At least a fifty fifty chance.." She backed away from the door to allow Security and the XO to take over. (Posted by Lily ) (Color II - Underground Tunnel - COPS Lieutenant Deynyk Rinn - 0855) From the moment that the away team descended into the vertical shaft that connected to their current location, Deynyk had found himself struggling to fight an irrational fear of being underground. It was a feeling that he had never really experienced before. He'd been spelunking in some of the most dark and dangerous caves on six different worlds, but for some reason the man made shaft and tunnel seemed to fill him with an unreasonable dread. it was a growing sense of dread, stone-like in his gut that seemed to slow him down more than the slow pace of cautiousness held by the away team as they edged forward into the underground complex. Small green beads of moisture were visible on the hazmat suits of the away team members ahead of him. It was almost as if they had been caught in a rainstorm of teravere. The green luminescent glow seemed somewhat eerie despite the well lit tunnel that the team moved through. He just couldn't help but remain somewhat fixated on the small droplets clinging dangerously to the hazmat suit of the person before him. ::Maybe it has to do with the encounter in the underground metro station?:: Rinn suggested. ::Nonsense, ::Deynyk replied, ::I've been underground dozens of times.:: ::But not with man-eating zombies and no clear way out…:: A strange tingle swept down his spine and Deynyk realized that Rinn had struck a nerve, perhaps the very reason that he was now combatting the worse fear he had ever faced before. Suddenly the group stopped and Deynk almost walked into the person ahead of him. A quick scan of the area was inconclusive and it became apparent that the team had reached a door. What lurked behind that door was an unknown and suddenly exceptionally terrifying concept to Deynyk. "Off the record, I'm pretty sure there is someone in there. At least a fifty fifty chance.." Emily finished. "I'll lead!" Dey, almost shouted, his voice carrying easily to the front. He wasn't certain why he had just volunteered considering his feelings at the moment. perhaps it was his way of trying to squash the growing fear that threatened to unhinge him. "I mean…" He replied, "I'll open the door and Lieutenant tree can cover me, In case there's trouble." Dey stepped forward moving a little closer to the dread door. "Sir, shall I?" (Posted by Daniel Greene) (Color II - Underground Tunnel - Sciences, Harvey Armstrong - 0857) The Away team had formed an unorganized wedge near the door way leading into an area ahead. Armstrong agreed with the doctor there were some life signs in there, no question. There was also this extremely high concentration of Teravere and it was condensing on the hazmat suits. This fascinated Armstrong as there were no immediate causes in the atmospheric conditions he was monitoring but there they were. He rebuked himself and switched the settings on the Tricorder to compensate for the underground tunnels. The humidity was almost 93% and the temperature had been rising the further from the hatch they got. The conditions here were ripe for the condensation as well as the high heat but the source had to be inorganic. Something in the room was creating the conditions they were experiencing and whatever it was, Armstrong was convinced it was unintentional. “I will back you up from here.” Armstrong stated to the team. He then took up a location just down and behind Lieutenant Trei. He kept his tricorder in his left hand and drew his phaser into his right. He gently nudged up against Lieutenant Trei so that Trei would be aware of his presence, it was a tactical maneuver know as a stack and had been used for centuries as a close quarters combat standard. His tricorder was reading the same results, high heat, high humidity all emanating from the door ahead. (Written by Andy C) (Color II - Underground Compound - TAC/S LT(JG) Detron Trei - 08.58) Armstrong gave him a nudge to tell him of his presence. He really didn't need that because he could see him enough to show where he was. Jacobs made the decision to have him up front when the door is opened. He complied and took the right side of the door. When the door was busted open. The party received heavy fire from the inside compound. He didn't need orders to handle the situation. He returned quick fire with Armstrong matching his fire allowing three security officers to take cover and return fire from cover. When cover fire was established, he moved to a flanked position. He signaled to Jacobs that he was ready to take them out and waited for the order to do so. (Posted by Edward) (Color II - Underground tunnel - First Officer Henry Jacobs - 0859) After Emily spoke those words to him, Henry's anxiety rose even more. It was evident that there was some kind of work being done on Teravere on the other side of the room and with the pressing of time to get a cure for the now infected captain, Henry was ready to push forward. The only surprise was that there was someone else even more eager to go than he was. "We may all be a little on edge at the moment but let's not forget protocol. Ensign Trei and the other security officers will take the lead, you and I will bring up the rear. Everyone else, be ready and provide support." (Reply Rinn, iyw) Henry walked over to Deynyk and in a low tone expressed how much he too was anxious. Nonetheless he was ready for the job before him. It did not take long before Henry's engineering skills breached the locking mechanism on the door. The security detail, lead by Ensign Trei was quite efficient. As soon as the security entered the room they dodged incoming fire from the enemy who were poised as if they were well aware of the arrival of the Starfleet away team. The three security officers immediate took cover and returned fire as the rest of the away team entered the room. (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (Aquarii - Bridge - General Deen M'locha - 0900) Deen beamed directly on to the bridge as instructed in his detailed plan. His bridge held several more officers that were standing by for their orders. "Red alert, power to weapons, bring us within attacking range of the Boudicca." (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca – Bridge – CMO Lt Jg Mia Saryn - 0901) After having spoken with the senator, things had been quiet. Thinking over the conversation, Mia was sure that there was something here that they hadn’t seen. Something about this situation wasn’t right. .:You need to trust your instincts, Mia. That’s the reason i chose you. :. .: Saryn, i need you on this. No hiding, no secrets. I need you. :. Suddenly, a voice rang through, “Maam, there’s an unidentified ship heading towards us. Intercept course.” Looking up at the viewscreen, Mia said, “Where? They squawking?” A look of utter incomprehension hit the young ensign’s face. A smile spread across her face as she continued, “Sorry, old habit. Any contact? Any hails?” The Ensign shook her head. Biting her lip a little, Mia thought for a second and then said, “Hail them.” The Ensign nodded, tapped the console infront her and said, “Channel open.” Taking a breath, Mia said, “This is Lieutenant Mia Saryn of the USS Boudicca. Please identify yourself.” (Posted by Jackie Smith) (Color II - Underground Compound - Sciences Ens jg Harvey Armstrong - 09.02) As Trei swept into the flanking position Armstrong remained in the cover fire position. Tactically it would assist both the suppressive fire of Deynyk and the forward advancing fire of Trei. Armstrong simultaneously ran the tricorder keeping track of life signs in order to see if any flankers were coming up the hall from behind in an ambush or if any of the assailants left the room headed in some other undisclosed location. Phaser fire erupted all around Armstrong as his position had been identified by the enemy assailants. He kept in cover and returned fire. His fire was mostly blind but consistent enough to help the others in their advance. This was it, a fire fight. He had trained for four years for this eventuality, the holosuite simulators had been effective in preparing him but this was his first true firefight. He recognized that he was reacting out of his training, his reflexes heightened by the surge of adrenaline. The very natural way he flowed into the formations with the other security officers a testament to standardized training that had been in place for longer than anyone in the tunnels could remember. All of these factors were what made The Federation the great inspiration that it was. Harvey Armstrong was in the midst of a firefight with a bio-weapon reagent flooding the space and he was actually assisting and making a difference. Had he not been completely terrified he would have smiled. He ducked for cover and noticed that someone was approaching from further down the tunnel to their rear, a flanker of some sort. He swiveled and called in the comms device, “We have one coming up from behind us, covering.” (Written by Andy Collette) (Aquarii - Bridge - General Deen M'locha - 0903) Ever since the Boudicca arrived at Color II the General knew that it was a possibility for his ship to have to go head to head against the Federation ship. The problem with that was the Boudicca was twice its size and had double or more armaments than the Aquarii. So he formulated a plan, a risky and very hazardous plan. He knew that he didn't need to defeat the Boudicca but he simply needed to distract it somehow so his crew could hit high warp and escape. Except for the hums and beeps of the various consoles the bridge was quiet. Everyone already knew the plan and no one thought it would work, but no one would ever question General M'locha. "Divert all power to forward shields and hull plating. Ready weapon counter measures. Bring us to a direct collision course with the Boudicca. Proceed at half impulse." Moving forward at half impulse played several different roles. Most importantly it gave the Boudicca's crew and controller the time to contemplate what exactly the Aquarii was doing. Deen was playing a dangerous game of mental clarity. Would the Boudicca move out of the way and allow the Aquarii to pass or would the Boudicca play out Aquarii's bluff. Some time passed and then the Aquarii began to take phaser fire. The bridge rocked and a few panels sparked with each hit. The Boudicca's weapons were powerful and stronger than General M'locha anticipated, but that was why he asked for all power to forward shields. No reports were being called, the General didn't care, he had a plan and he would stick to it till the end. "Steady!" he said drawing out the word. The two ships had closed their gap by half and it was time, "move up to ramming speed." The ships hum changed and the ship suddenly jolted forward a little faster. Just to ensure that his plan would be seen all the way through he activated his chair's control panel and proceeded to lock out all other controls from any where else on the ship except for his. He then deactivated the view screen. Everyone was in complete darkness, except for the countdown to collision that was being called out over the comms system. The Aquarii was fully committed to ram the Boudicca and it was now up to the Boudicca as to what would happen next. (posted by Calvin Capps) (Color II - Underground Compound - TAC/S LT(JG) Detron Trei - 09.05) Armstrong made his way to a flanked position across from him. Armstrong held his own in the fire fight providing extra defensive cover. He heard over his COMM that an unidentified intruder was coming through the tunnel behind them. He tapped his COMM and relayed his plan of action. "Look alive team. I have some pellets that will produce a sleep gas and two different effects. The blue pellet will produce a temporary frozen animation effect. The yellow pellet will act as a mid stun hit from a phaser. Using both together will render the attackers disoriented and frozen for a minute or so. Our suits will protect us from the effects." He pulled out three blue and three yellow pellets. He threw them down on the tunnel floor. A cloud of sleep gas spread through the chamber and out through the tunnel. Then the effects kicked in sending cracks of blue and yellow energy striking every exposed object. Some of the team were struck as well but the suit protected from the effect. He waited for the gas to dissipate. (Posted by Edward) (USS Boudicca – Bridge – Lt Jg Mia Saryn - 0906) Watching the ship head towards them, a calm crept over her that she knew had come from Saryn. He believed in her. Taking a breath, Mia said, “What are they up to?” No reply came as she drummed her hands on the side of the Captain’s chair. Suddenly, the ensign at Conn said, “Maam, they’ve raised their shields and are changing course.” “What? Where are they going?” “They’re heading for us. Maam, their speed has increased.” Gripping the edge of the armrest, Mia almost growled, “They’re playing chicken. Well, lets see how they like this...” Tapping her combadge, she said, “Saryn to Caspian.” (Reply Caspian) “I need an answer and quickly... Any signs of infection in you or the others?” (Reply Caspian) “Then consider yourselves released. You and Noble stay in Sickbay. Keep an eye on the Captain. Keep him with us, Counselor. Warn Noble you may have incoming casualties and send Mr Anderson to the bridge.” Cutting off the comm, Mia turned her attention back to the ship heading for them and said, “Lock on phasers. Target their warp core. Shut it down.” “Maam, should we not...” Turning to the officer at tactical, Mia snapped back, “Listen to me. They’ve raised their forward shields. they’re coming to ram us, not knock on our door for tea and biscuits. Taking out their engines makes sense. Stop them before they hit us.” Turning back, she opened the comm to the ship one last time and said, “Once again, this is Lieutenant Saryn of the USS Boudicca. Stop your course right now or we will consider this an aggressive act and respond in kind.” (Posted by Jackie Smith) (Aquarii - Bridge - General Deen M'locha - 0910) Time passed slowly as the audible countdown to impact rung throughout the bridge. Every few seconds the ship would shake as it was hit by phaser fire from the Boudicca. Before the countdown finished another hail came through the communications system. As everyone else's stations were locked, General M'locha pushed a button on his chair's panel to listen. =/\=Once again, this is Lieutenant Saryn of the USS Boudicca. Stop your course right now or we will consider this an aggressive act and respond in kind.=/\= "Hmm...," Deen said more to himself. He closed the channel as he didn't care to respond. He'd now expected for the Starfleet ship to step up its attack and that was exactly what happened. An alert beeped on his console as the Boudicca's phasers were now targeting the ship's engines. Deen was surprised by this move and knew that his counterpart was equally as good commanding their ship. He tapped a few buttons to allow his crew access to their panels once again. "Protect the engines, transfer shields in that area." After his command was given the countdown was at 10. The General paused to allow silence over the bridge. [10] the computer announced. [9] The ship shook. [8] [7] The bridge rumbled violently knocking a crewmen to the floor. [6] [5] A panel sparked and then exploded. [4] [3] The crew held their breaths. [2] [1] Nothing happened. "Power everything back up," immediately the view screen came back to life. Deen could see the underbelly of the Boudicca as the Aquarii passed underneath it. "Alright start venting the impulse engines, and prepare to jump to warp." The plan to vent the impulse engines would help mask their warp signature and make the Boudicca crew work harder to find it, giving him enough time to escape. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca – Bridge – Lt Jg Mia Saryn - 0913) Something wasn’t right. It wasn’t anything quantifiable but there was something not right. The ship kept coming. Mia sat still in the command chair watching it come. A voice rang out, “They’ve shifted their shields. They’re now bumping up the shields around the engines.” Hitting the armrest, Mia sighed, “Damn them. Keep firing but start hitting the front shields as well.” Watching the ship come closer and closer, Mia bit her lip and said, “They’re not moving, Brace for impact!” But no impact came. Her brow furrowed as she realised where they had gone. Standing, she walked forward and said, “They’ve gone underneath us. Keep a lock on them.” “They’re venting their impulse engines.” "KEEP A LOCK!” she yelled in frustration. She knew what they were doing. They were preparing to run. “Keep firing but target their front shields. Stop them any damn way you can but don’t annihilate them. We need them. Disable them.” (Posted by Jackie Smith) (Aquarii - Bridge - General Deen M'locha - 0914) One of the crew members behind the General's chair spoke out. "It seems to be working General. Our warp trail will be masked. We are ready to go to warp." "By all means, hit it!" A few more phaser burst hit the Aquarii and maybe one or two photons met their mark, but it was too late. The Aquarii disappeared suddenly from the Boudicca's view as the Aquarii jumped to warp. "Ha-ha-haaaaaa!" the General chuckled heartily. He wasn't for sure if he was laughing because he was so shocked that his tactic work or if he just stared death in the eye and once again survived. "Lets start laying fake tracks at irregular intervals...," his thoughts changed gears, "I'm hungry so I'll be in the mess hall." He left the bridge thinking about a nice big juicy hamburger. (posted by Calvin Capps) (Color II - Research Facility - First Officer Lieutenant Henry Jacobs - 0915) As soon as Jacobs made it into the room he took higher cover to get a better view of the surrounding area. The action that was going on in the back too the entirety of his attention. While streams of brilliant light stretched from the Federation personnel random colored bolts were returned from the enemy weapons. What was interesting was that not everyone that was in the room was firing. Henry notice a man decorated in uniform to somewhat signify a high rank ordering others around him to join the fight. As Henry took aim at the decorated soldier he noticed that someone to notice to his position and began to fire on his location. Henry ducked behind his cover and then jumped up again to return fire. After the third firing exchange the phaser stream from his rifle landed on the upper torso of his target. The man dropped to the floor allowing Jacobs to turn and return his attention to the man in the back of the room. His timing was off however, as the man and three others immediately next to him beamed away to some other location. He needed to know who that mysterious man was and what his involvement was with the Teravere. Taking another look at the room around him Henry was absolutely sure that there was some illegal activity being conducted in this facility and he was sure it involved the Teravere. The fire fight continued as one after another of the enemy soldiers dropped to the floor after being hit by the Starfleet superioir weapons. Henry made his was from his cover back over to the rest of the away team. "We need to end this now." It was apparent that Ensign Trei was in the same mind set. Trei had implemented a plan that rendered several attackers unconscious and dazed. The effects were enough to stop their advance and allow the away team to subdue them. With the enemy numbers dwindling down Jacobs wanted every available person to push the fight and incapacitate the remaining interlopers so that they could find the cure and get it back to the captain. (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Boudicca – Bridge – CMO Lt Jg Mia Saryn - 0917) Watching as the ship that had attacked them jumped to warp, Mia hit the armrest of the chair and swore loudly. The pain in her hand began to glow hot as she flexed her fingers. Tapping her combadge, she said, “Saryn to Noble.” (Reply Noble) “How’s the Captain doing?” (Reply Noble) Closing her eyes, Mia sighed heavily. She wasn’t a command officer, never wanted to be. Her role in life was a doctor and here she was, stuck decks away from the most important patient she had been charged with. Looking around her, a thought struck her. No sooner had it done so, then Saryn began pleading with her, .:Mia. No. You can’t do this. You don’t know if it will even work! :. But she did not reply. A strange calmness had taken over her as she rose and said, “Mr Noble, I’m on my way down to you. I need to speak with you privately in my office. Wait for me there. Saryn out.” Turning to the bridge crew, she said, “Lieutenant Tomson, you have the bridge. Tell Mr Jacobs when he gets back where I am.” And without a backwards glance, she headed for the turbo lift. (Posted by Richard Tomlin) (Color II - Research Facility - Sciences Ens jg Harvey Armstrong - 0920) Harvey sped down the corridor to the teams rear to insure that the lifeform he had detected there was actually down. He was. Then Harvey headed back for the lab. The firefight looked menacing in the fog of the Teravere that was floating in the air. As Harvey had assumed, the lab had experienced some form of accident or intentional catastrophe. Two large containers which held the final product were broken and pouring the raw Teravere from within. The lines and other chemical equipment were in such disarray that Harvey figured it would take hours just to resolve the connections and processes involved in the lab. But none of that was going to be possible while the enemy scientists or combatants or whatever they were continued to shoot at the Away Team. Jacobs had ordered everyone to assist in the completion of the firefight and that was exactly what Armstrong commenced to do. He was a fair shot on the range, in combat was proving to be a little more trying. His aim while precise lacked a certain finesse. He had trouble leading targets and dodging shots fired at him whilst simultaneously landing accurate shots with his phaser. He did not completely fail however, his training had been through and as the firefight raged on all around him he settled into a rhythm, not a good one but it was functional. He found himself hidden behind a desk with a computer console on it. The computer was showing a diagram of the chemical makeup of the Teravere. It was being remotely accessed as well. Someone was trying to remove the files from the computer as the firefight progressed. Harvey knew he had to capture this data it was vital to the continuation and eventual understanding of the bio-weapon. Phaser fire continually surrounded the table he was hiding behind. He determined that he had to risk life and limb to retrieve this data. He stood up firing in the direction of the enemy combatant who had him pinned down. He fired as quickly as he could watching as beakers, piping and other scientific apparatus burst and spilled as a result of hits from his phaser. The person engaging him popped into view at the precise moment Armstrong fired in his general direction. No more fire came from that location. Harvey decided he must have struck his target and ended the danger to himself or the man simply quit fighting. Immediately as the others continued their respective portions of the assignment Harvey went to work on the computer in front of him. He had access to the controls and began to save data to a sub-drive. That action brought an immediate change in the remote accessor’s primary objectives. The two programmers were working the computer as fast as they could. Harvey was at the disadvantage as he did not know the system. He worked feverishly against his opponent grabbing sections of raw data in mass coupled with bits and pieces along the way. It would be fractal but there might be enough to piece together what these scientists, terrorists, evil doers...who knew what they were called were attempting to complete. As he battled this technical foe, Harvey began whispering aloud, oblivious to the others around him..”Come on, faster, NO!! Yes right there that’s it...damn. Quicker, fingers and brain work together you can do it...” Crap!...come on. Oh no you don’t you bastard that is mine.” He pushed back away from the computer with more force than was necessary. He immediately saw a wire dangling from the computer console headed towards a wall outlet. That outlet was replicated throughout the lab, the people he was fighting were not accessing these terminals with wireless connections, these terminals were all hard wired to one central one. One he could physically intercept and put a serious damper on the enemy’s activities. Harvey leapt over a corpse headed towards the central machine. It was completely frozen and inaccessible due to lockout protocols that had been initiated long before Harvey’s arrival. It was however, as Harvey had deduced, the source for the intrusions by whomever was accessing the data he was losing a weakness in the system from remote users. He took his phaser out, set the setting higher than it had been and used it as a cutting torch to severe all of the cables protruding from the main terminal. Sparks flew and the machine went blank immediately. By shutting the system down hard, Harvey had eliminated any further data transfer out of the lab. It would be some time before he knew if had had been successful in retaining enough data to be of use but at least he had something to work with. “I have ceased their data transfer from this location it will take some efforting to repower and break into this terminal but it is acting as a central core to the others and is the only connection to the outside. This needs to come with us sir, if you will authorize it when we depart.” He said to the First Officer. (Written by Andy C) (Color II - Underground Tunnel - COPS Lieutenant Deynyk Rinn - 0925) After volunteering to be the first through the door, Henry had stepped back and kindly reminded Deynyk that it would be security that entered the chamber first. Dey was mixed on the reply, because in some way it almost confirmed the way that he was feeling where the fear of being underground was concerned. he was certain that Henry couldn't see it on his face, but perhaps some tome or hesitation in his voice had given him away. Of course, he could simply be overreacting to the slight reminder, after all, it made perfectly good sense that the security team would be the first into any potentially hostile situation. As soon as the door was breached, it became very apparent that the potential for hostility had become transformed into a reality. Angry weapon's fire attempted to cut down the Starfleet away team as they rushed into the room. The intense emotional strain caused by being under fire took over and Deynyk forgot all about the fact that he was underground. As he had been ordered, he followed the others into the compartment. The incoming fire was withering and professionally organized. The opposition within the room were most assuredly not amateurs, and each time that Deynyk attempted to rise from behind the unknown bulk of equipment he had sheltered behind, well-placed weapons fire drove him back down for cover. He wasn't very effective at performing covering fire for the first few moments after he had managed to get through the door and into the room, but then there was a lull in the fighting as the away team managed to stun some of the defenders. Deynyk rose from behind the equipment and was struck nearly dead on by a powerful weapon's blast. The majority of the thermal energy was absorbed by the protective sheathing of the Hazmat suit that he wore, however, the physical force of billions of phased nadions lifted Deynyk from his feet and slammed him into the wall with bone numbing force. Deynyk felt as if a giant sumo wrestler had perched himself squarely on his chest. His arms refused to work, and with equal tenacity so did his legs. After a few moments, Dey realized he must have lost consciousness, because he sharply noticed the angry buzzing of the suit integrity alarm. Deynyk lowered his head to look at the chest of his suit. It was burned, but seemed intact. He started to rise to his feet, but when he did, his legs went numb and there was a sharp pain in his lower back. In agony, the trill officer reached back and tried to apply pressure to the injury, more out of reaction than medical desire. His hands however were stopped by a hard rigid object protruding from his lower back, just above his left kidney. It appeared that he had landed on a protuberance of pipe. It had been drive through his suit and into his body, making a nice clean hole in both. He brought his gloved hand forward. It was covered in blood. Besides the severity of the wound, the area was saturated with Teravere gas. Deynyk didn't know how long it would take before he went insane and tried to kill the other members of the away team, but he couldn't risk it. He activated his suit communicator. "I'm hit and my suit is punctured. I need a medic." he managed to squeeze out from between clenched teeth, before passing out from the pain. (posted by Daniel Greene) (USS Boudicca – Sickbay – CMO Lt Jg Mia Saryn – 0927) Striding into Sickbay, Mia spotted Lizzy instantly. What she was planning to do would hit her the hardest and, after her earlier behaviour, Mia was beginning to doubt herself on what would happen after. Glancing at her, she nodded a greeting and walked straight to her office, smiling at Ensign Noble. “Thankyou for waiting here. Firstly, what I am about to say to you is in the strictest confidence.” (Reply Noble) Taking a breath, she replied, “There are three things I need to say to you and I need to get this out so please don’t interrupt. Firstly, I apologise for my earlier behaviour. It was out of order and, for what it’s worth, I am sorry. Secondly, I am about to do something that is probably not going to go down very well with our first officer. On my way here I entered into the log that what I am doing, I do of my own accord and no comeback should be on anyone other than myself. I know this may sound strange but it is important that you understand that. Finally, I need you to do something for me. No matter what happens next, I need you to stop Doctor Caspian from trying to prevent it. She will more than likely do so. I need her to stay away. She’s important to me but so is the Captain.” (Reply Noble) “That I don’t want to tell you. All I will say is that I might just be able to get you live antibodies for the virus. I need you to stand by to receive these and work as fast as you can to turn them into a cure. Now, please send Doctor Caspian to me.” (Reply Noble) As he walked out of her office, looking more confused than ever, Mia reached into a drawer of her desk and pulled out the small black box that had lived in there for the last few months. Removing her tunic, she folded it neatly on the desk and placed the box on top of it. Fixing her combadge onto her vest top, she sighed as Lizzy walked through the door, (Reply Caspian) Walking to her side, Mia took one hand in hers and said, “Lizzy, I need to say something to you and I need to say it all in one go. No interruptions because this is not going to be easy.” (Reply Caspian) Gripping her hand tightly, Mia looked into her eyes and said, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for my earlier behaviour from the bottom of my heart. It was uncalled for and out of order. But more so, I’m sorry for what I’m about to do. Lizzy, I love you. More so than I ever thought possible. I love everything about you. The ring. I want you to wear it. Wear it proudly because, god knows girl, I want to marry you.” Placing her hands on Lizzy’s face, she pulled her close and kissed her deeply. A tear ran down her face as she pulled away and she whispered in her ear, “I’m so sorry.” Walking past her, ignoring the looks from Noble and the questions coming from Caspian, she walked straight to the decontamination room that held the Captain. Tapping on the console outside the door, she locked the controls out so that no-one would be able to enter or leave other than her. Looking back at the pair watching her, she smiled, nodded and walked through the door and into the room that held the Captain. Closing the door behind her and locking it, she tapped her combadge and said, “Computer, take all medical transporters off line. Lock them out. Authorisation code Saryn Delta 9872 Bravo.” Now it was done and one of two things was about to happen. Her plan was either going to work or this was it. He had to act for the safety of the party. "Sir. I suggest that I use the rest of my freeze pellets. They are in the cargo at the beam site. There are 200 or so to use. A concentrated dose of that magnitude will theoretically place anyone in the greater underground area in suspended animation for an hour and a half. It will also slow the progress of the gas to 1000 times its current pace. That will give us the time to neutralize the gas and save the planet from danger. It would be advised to witness this from the surface preferably camp perimeter." (Posted by Richard Tomlin) (USS Boudicca - Sickbay - Councilor Ensign(jg) Elizabeth Caspian, Dr. - 0933) Noble was called into the CMO's office, first. There was something in Mia's eyes that just did not feel right to Lizzy. This was only confirmed later when Dr. Noble emerged and looked toward Elizabeth a lost look on his face. Elizabeth was now worried, when Noble told Lizzy that Mia wanted to talk to her. Elizabeth entered the CMO's office and waited for Mia to address her. “Lizzy, I need to say something to you and I need to say it all in one go. No interruptions because this is not going to be easy.” Mia spoke coming to Lizzy's side and holding her hand gently. "Whats wrong Mia, you have not been yourself." Lizzy asked the question that would likly not be answered. Gripping Lizzy's hand tightly, Mia looked into her eyes and said, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for my earlier behavior from the bottom of my heart. It was uncalled for and out of order. But more so, I’m sorry for what I’m about to do. Lizzy looked at her oddly, has Elizabeth's mind was instantly put on edge as her hand slide from Mia. Lizzy, I love you. More so than I ever thought possible. I love everything about you. The ring. I want you to wear it. Wear it proudly because, god knows girl, I want to marry you.” Placing her hands on Lizzy’s face, she pulled her close and kissed her deeply. A tear ran down her face as she pulled away and she whispered in her ear, "I’m so sorry." It was the kiss that bought Mia the time and distance to get away from Elizabeth. Mia knew how to take Lizzy's breath away and by the time Lizzy understood what Mia was trying to cryptically tell Elizabeth it was to late the door to the decontamination room that held the Captain was rapidly closing. Lizzy burst though the CMO's office door "MIA don't" Lizzy screamed with every fiber of her body. She tried to break though the door to get to her beloved. Her mental energy slammed into the decontamination room door. The shielding on that protected the decontamination room continued to hold firm keeping the door intact and from flying apart. Lizzy continued to pound into the decontamination room tears flowing from her face. Some time later Henry entered the sickbay, by that time Lizzy was exhausted not knowing what else what to do she waited for the time that the nightmare that played before her would end. Lizzy heard the argument between Mia and Henry, something that Lizzy was thankful for. Later Elizabeth would have her words with Mia and Sayrn. Lizzy watched as the FO pass her. "I'll watch the captain, and I promise no more dramatics. If you don't mind I would like to use my telepathy to help preserve a the Captains mental state, to battle his inner rage. Don't worry this is something I can do from outside the decontamination room." Lizzy spoke drying her eyes. (reply Jacobs) "One more thing Sir.... Thank you for stopping Mia." Over the past several minutes his body would suddenly jerk and twitch for just a second and then his body would go still again. Inside his mind nightmares played over and over again of him running through a dark forest with bright and lethal lightning flashes. And then the scene would change and he could see himself hovering over a body devouring its flesh. It was as if his self was having to fight against the virus and the Teravere was beginning to win. His eyes shot opened and it was clear that his eye color had gone from its dark green to just pure black. The scream started at the bottom of his stomach and inched its way up through his chest. It hit his vocal chords and allowed the scream to start out as a growl, but as Calvin's mouth opened wide the scream came to its zenith and was extremely loud and terrifying. By all means try what you feel will help. But above all else make sure you keep yourself safe." He had thought that she was finished but she thanked him for dealing with Mia. All he could do at that point was grin at her. He turned around and proceeded out the door and to the bridge. (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (Color II - Research Facility - First Officer Lieutenant Henry Jacobs - 0944) The firing had ceased and the away team was still standing. Henry was glad there were no casualties until he turned back to see Denyk sprawled out on the ground with a piece of debris pierced through his body. The team medic was already moving over to his location to begin assessing his wound and possible infection of the Teravere. Something that Henry had feared was now unfolding in front of him, there was a casualty under his watch and to make it even worse there was the possibility that a second person from the away team was now infected. The away team had spent more than enough time down underground and now they could get what they needed and return to the ship. Jacobs saw Armstrong diligently working on the computer console in front of him. With the occasional swear it appeared he was accessing the information that was needed and the idea of leaving soon ran through Henry's head. Several minutes continued to pass as Henry watched Armstrong work. He watched until he himself became curious in the information the facility computers held. His curiosity got him and he walked over next to the ensign and logged into the terminal next to him. To Henry's surprise there was quite a bit of Federation data stored in files on the computer. Further investigation led Henry to find out that the data had a unique file history and the data in entirety was downloaded from the Boudicca's main computer. "What the hell is this," he announced out load probably grabbing the attention of those immediately in range of his voice. His brain started accessing memories. ~Nickolas said they were in the computer core room, unattended.~ With his eyes locked on the screen Henry continued to read. The original information stolen from the Boudicca seemed to be annotated and cross-referenced with other files. There was a heavy concentration of personal logs, most notably of Jessica Signos. Henry remembered Jessica. She was already on board the Boudicca when Henry joined and she seemed to be well situated on the ship. While he had not had much contact with her his memories did resurface as he envisioned a very attractive young ensign in her yellow tunic. What was most memorable was what transpired the last time he saw her. She ended up transferring to the Rosenante but only after a long ordeal of being kidnapped and interrogated by a Section 31 covert operative. While the details eluded him as to what S31wanted with her, they were no more mysterious than the idea itself of a covert organization with hidden agendas and unlimited resources. Henry did not have direct contact with S31 and from what he heard he did not want to either. The console seemed to load a continuous stream of clerical data and observational notes. The more Henry read the more he saw on Jessica, a fact that forced his concern to grow. ~why are they so interested in her? And what does she have to do with the Teravere here in the facility?~ He asked the questions to himself taking on the responsibility of finding the answers. "Armstrong, do we have what we need," (Reply Armstrong) "Things have changed, I want everything you can get from these computers. We will beam them up to the ship if we have to." (Reply Armstrong) Too much time had passed since the mysterious man beamed out of the facility and Jacobs wholeheartedly believed he had more information on what was in the computers. "Miss Star, is it safe for the lieutenant to be transferred to the ship?" (Reply Star) "We need to get him to Sickbay. We have spent more than enough time here on the planet." (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (Color II - Research Facility - Ens jg Harvey Armstrong - Sciences - 02.0945) "Armstrong, do we have what we need," Jacobs commanded to the assembled team. “Sir, whoever was trying to keep us from the data has been removing it as fast as I can get it. We are going to have incomplete file data on the Teravere sir if I cannot get this information secured.” Harvey was curious, the First Officer had attacked a second terminal and was scanning other types of files than Teravere. “There is simply not enough time sir. The Teravere files are being snatched too quickly.” Harvey hadn’t even considered other files he had been focused solely on the Teravere. "Things have changed, I want everything you can get from these computers. We will beam them up to the ship if we have to." The first officer said. Harvey made that simple, He used his phaser to cut every wire on the terminal that served as the mainframe for the room,” Sir this is the only unit we need, it is the memory core for all the others. If we bring this unit we will have access to everything that is left. Unfortunately they were able to retrieve a large number of giga-quads before I could physically lock them out. Perhaps we can extract some temporary memory data off the remainder of the terminals. I would also like permission to take some samples of this raw Teravere and any of these crates and bulk raw materials you will allow us to transport up, under quarantine of course. Perhaps we could utilize a cargo bay or shuttle bay, something we can blow out to space quickly if necessary , sir.” Harvey began stacking the computer core, samples of each of the crates that were present and a large container of the Teravere which he extracted from the leaking storage unit properly to avoid cross contamination, this was the purest Teravere sample collected to date. He recorded the entire set-up with his tricorder including the parts that had been broken in order to recreate the lab on board Boudicca. He had reading of air quality, size of the room everything he could think of in order to recreate this space, he might utilize a Holo-deck but he would cross that bridge later. Science could be a means of helping people, that much was certain. All of the supplies and items would come to form an experiment that he and the medical staff could use to reverse engineer the compound and perhaps a cure or antidote whichever might apply. The engineers and Operations people could reconnect the computers and glean whatever might be left on those. The whole pile would have to remain in quarantine, probably the officers as well. Had Harvey been in charge of the detail he would certainly initiate similar protocols but the First officer was the lead man and Harvey simply would follow instructions as given. (Written by Andy C) (Color II - Research Facility - Ensign Emily Star - 0946) "Miss Star, is it safe for the lieutenant to be transferred to the ship?" Emily looked up from her place beside the other medic, "I.." she stood and moved away from the patient. "We need to get him to Sickbay. We have spent more than enough time here on the planet." "I agree, Sir. I'm sure they'll get it sorted in a prompt and efficient manner." It is very important that the two of us get along. We must be allies if we are to maintain our position for the talks with the Romulans." "Yes." Jeyva replied, "You must be realistic in your expectations mister Ambassador. This is an arbitration. I am a mediator, not your ally. I have agreed to hear both sides of the conflict between your people and the Romulan Star Empire. I am not here to help you gain an unfair advantage in your discussions." Jeyva placed the glass of bubbling liquid on the table between them. "But I thought you were here to bolster our claims to the disputed territories." Glift replied, his agitation obvious as he ground his teeth tother with an audible series of small pops. "Then you would be incorrect." Jeyva replied. ::Easy Jeyva, be gentle.:: Rinn said softly. "But-" "But nothing, Mister Ambassador. An arbiter by definition is supposed to be neutral. They don't take sides and they don't allow themselves to be bribed into a favorable ruling. They listen and they decide. They ARBITRATE." Jeyva replied, "I didn't come here to put myself into a compromising position, I came here because I thought you wanted to discuss your government's position." "I…- ::Good going Jeyva.:: ::Thank you.:: ::That was sarcasm.:: ::Oh…:: ---- The ledge under his fingers was rough and textured almost like rough graveled concrete, but Deynyk's fingers didn't protest as he hung 12,000 feet above the world by his finger tips. The wind was bitter and cold, but the view that stretched out before him was breathtaking. His arms were above his head, in a position shaped much like a Terran 'Y', the muscles in his arms burned with the strain of holding his weight at such an impossible angle. The rarity of the oxygen in the air wasn't helping matters any either. Deynyk closed his eyes. He took a deep breathe and let go. ::Here we go!:: ::Aaahhhhhhh:: Rinn screamed mentally as the pair shot downwards towards the surface of the planet below them. The rush of the wind distorted his face as they plummeted downwards. The inexorable tug of gravity reached up and drew them closer into the embrace of eternity. ::You're going to kill us!:: Rinn extorted. ::We're going to die!:: Deynyk said nothing, smiling, his eyes still closed as he allowed the currents to whip past him, gaining a near sense of microgravity, of flight across the entirety of the cosmos. He could feel the adrenaline rushing through his body, triggered by Rinn's fervent belief in their impending doom. But Deynyk allowed himself to float, "I am a leaf on the wind" he muttered as he continued to plunge downward. ---- The world was a dank, dark, horrible place. The thin beam of his wrist torch reached out into the engulfing darkness, which seemed like a despicable clawing thing, trying to break past the meager security that the light provided. The steps were there, beneath his feet, one-after-the-other leading downward into the decaying confines of the abandoned underground transport station. There was blood smeared on the steps. The railing was sticky with blood, and Deynyk avoided touching it, and despite his better judgement he continued down, deeper into the darkness. He had pushed forward, reminding himself that there was some purpose to his presence here, although the exact details seemed to elude him. :This is very weird:: Rinn commented. ::Tell me about it.:: ::I just did.:: Deynyk shook his head as his eyes stayed focused on the revealed portion of the area that his light fell upon. He found a shoe here, a child's doll there, and other smaller bits that showed that there had been people through here. But it wasn't until he reached the platform, at the bottom of the stairs that things took a turn for the gruesome. The landing was broad, he must be at least twenty feet beneath the street. He tried to flash the light around the massive chamber, but the beam seemed somehow consumed by the darkness. It's dim light seemed to pulse with the rhythm of his heartbeat, a storage somewhat surreal dance that seemed somehow inexplicably linked to his very existence. At first he hadn't been sure what the light had revealed. Perhaps a pool of liquid that seemed somehow more reminiscent of a lubricant of some sort rather than blood. But a closer inspection of the mysterious pool proved to be congealing blood, still wet, although tacky in texture. The smoothed edges of the pool were broken by texturing that indicated someone wearing clothing had been laying in it until very recently. Perhaps someone injured or wounded. The pool showed signs that the individual there had managed to make it to a standing position and had staggered and dragged themselves deeper into the darkness. They were dragging one leg, leaving painful looking marks behind as blood seeped from whatever injuries they had there. The other foot left a trail of partial foot prints behind, apparently they lost one of their shoes and Deynyk wondered if it had been the shoe he had spotted on the stairwell earlier. Signs of activity indicated the possibility of a survivor, or rather an injured person, so Deynyk did what any Starfleet officer would do in his position; He followed the blood trail. It led him deeper into the darkness until not even the light coming in from the opening to the street above could be seen. Before long his entire world consisted of the snatches of items and bloody marks that were revealed by the torch at his wrist. Bloody footprint after bloody footprint led him deeper and deeper. ::Okay I don't like this anymore.:: Rinn stated, ::We need to go back now:: ::Maybe you're right.:: Deynyk replied. He turned to reorient himself towards the entry. Although he couldn't see it, he could follow the blood trail in reverse to reach it. He started off on the return when he heard something. He stopped stock still. Something in his gut told him not to make any noise. For some reason he felt the pressing need to flip off his torch and so, carefully to minimize movement of the light, he reached out and pressed the switch which plunged him into complete darkness. For a short while everything was dreadfully quiet. nothing made a single peep. There was no rustling of paper, no hum of power coursing through the subway's system. but then, faintly, between him and the exit, Deynyk heard something. It sounded like someone dragging something leathery over the floor. He could make out the small sounds as whatever was being dragged slipped from one tile to the next, making a regular thud- thud- thud noise as it went. It took him a few seconds to realize something about the same time Rinn did. ::It's getting closer.:: he warned. Deynyk nodded and then did something that his instincts told him that he should not do. He called out. "Hello? I'm with Starfleet is there anyone here?" The sound stopped. It didn't fade, or grow quieter- it simply and completely stopped. An indeterminate period of time passed as Deynyk strained to listen for the sound to recur. He held his breath, letting it out slowly as quietly as possible, trying hard not to give away his position further. Something was obviously in the station with him and whatever it was, Deynyk somehow doubted that it was friendly. He thought about tapping his commbadge, but realized that the chirp would just draw unwanted attention to him. Besides, he doubted that the signal could get through all the magnetic interference without some modification. ::You're going to have to turn on the light and run for it.:: Rinn told him. ::Yeah.:: ::It could be getting closer and closer, we shouldn't wait much longer Dey.:: Deynyk only nodded in response. Then taking a deep breath, he reached forward and snapped on his torch. There was a sudden feral screech, which seemed to be answered by a dozen voices. Something primal, primitive took a hold of Deynyk, and contrary to every act in his life he started running. A wild shuffling could be heard behind him, and Deynyk moved as quickly as he could towards the exit, his torch dropping periodically towards the floor to try to pinpoint the blood trail he had followed into the darkness, back towards his salvation. Otherwise the light rose back up, trying to illuminate the area immediately in front of him as he moved. Then suddenly there was light. It was everywhere and nowhere all at the same time. It blinded him, causing him to throw his arms up to shield his too-sensative eyes. He paused, stumbled to a stop, half afraid of what he might run into in his terrified flight. Then the hands. They were grabbing him, pulling him downward, tearing at flesh, ripping fabric, tearing away the last herds of bravery that he had remaining within him. His eyes snapped open to see the crew of the Boudicca, bloodied, beaten and decaying scrambling over each other as they competed to rip the flesh from his bones. With Lieutenant Rinn currently injured and at risk of infection the pressure of command was heavily weighing down on him. There was no time for further mistakes. The crew had already made contact with the Boudicca in preparation of another possible infected crew member. Henry wanted nothing but to get off the planet and back to the safety of the ship but first he had to ensure he wasn't making matters worse. "Ensign," he said, looking over in Armstrong's direction, "there has been too many incidents with having the Teravere on board, request denied. Any studying to be done will have to be with samples extracted from the captain, from our bio - suits, and quite possibly Lieutenant Rinn is he is infected." (Reply Armstrong) "However, your idea is sound. A new quarantine will be established in Cargo Bay two." The tone was quite clear in Henry's voice. It was one that said you will be in charge of implementing since you volunteered the idea. Knowing what this could cost her, her position, she had fought with Saryn. But the Doctor in her was winning. (Written by Brett Goodson) (USS Boudicca - Decontamination Room - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 1011) After his loud and shrieking scream Calvin became aware of his location. He was now laying in the Decontamination Room and Doctor Saryn was looking over him. He could remember the nightmares, but he felt like he was in control of his body now. He couldn't believe that the thoughts of him eating his crew members even could plague his unconscious thoughts. “Captain, Can you hear me?” Mia asked. "Yes," the Captain said. Curious has to how long he has been asleep and what exactly what was going on. Placing a hand gently on his shoulder, she said, “I need you to listen to me. What do you know of Trill biology?” He didn't register the question at first. The touch by Mia sparked a desire for meat. His mouth began to water. After he shrugged the thought off he responded. "Only a little, Lieutenant." “Sir, if you know what I am referring to then you also know it’s the only way. Having viable antibodies could save you. So….” The Captain was confused. He wasn't following. He didn't know if it was due to the Teravere or not. The bind holding him was then released by the doctor. “Sir, with all due respect, bite me.” Calvin fluttered his eyes multiple times in shock. Certainly he didn't hear what he thought he heard. "NO!" The Captain shouted pushing away Mia's arm. “Sir Please...” "No, I will not." The Captain was saying the words but his internal thoughts were telling a different story. He was losing control of his actions. "Please, put me back under the restraints. I can't control this," the Captain pleaded. (reply Saryn) Her response didn't register at all in the Captain's mind. He couldn't hear anything. Calvin only had one thought now, the delicious succulent taste of meat. Somehow he knew that the arm being presented to him was full of it. He grabbed out to catch the arm that was freely being dangled in front of him. He gripped her hand hard now and moved forward in taking a big bite of the doctor's arm. But then he paused and the Captain just sat there squeezing the arm. Something was stopping him from taking the bite. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - Decontamination Room – CMO Lt Jg Mia Saryn - 1016) "No, I will not. Please, put me back under the restraints. I can't control this," the Captain pleaded. “No, Sir. Please do what i ask. You are more important to the crew than i am. Bite me!” Suddenly, she saw the change and knew. He reached forward and grabbed her arm, illiciting a gasp at his touch. Wincing as his grip tightened, Mia fought to keep herself upright. Pain was flying through her wrist where the Captain had grabbed her. He leant forward to take the bite and then a voice rang through the room, "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING. STEP AWAY FROM CAPTAIN CAPPS" Looking in the direction of the voice, Mia saw the one person she had hoped would not get there in time. The anger on his face was evident and his feelings at that moment were almost palpable. Wincing again, she shook her head. She knew what was coming, almost as if she were telepathic, and she knew it wasn’t going to be easy. "You were entrusted to watch the ship and you abandoned your post to do what? This? Were you even thinking?" Fixing a calmness to her voice, she said, “Yes, Sir, i was thinking. I’m not doing this for a silly reason. This could save him.” "There are two in you in there, Saryn why didn't you stop her? You were the reason I trusted her with the bridge" This mention and direct question to Saryn irked her. It was something that she had encountered more than once. Glaring at him, her voice stayed low and even but she knew it had taken on a slight anger, “Saryn does not control me. I did this. Me. Mia. And don’t worry, he voiced his own opinion and still is.” "What could you have possibly gained by going through with this? You jeopardized yourself and the safety of the ship and its crew. As a doctor you made a promise to preserve life and here you are risking it as if it were your choice." That had tore it for her. She could take the lashing she was getting but to question her ability as a doctor was enough. Knowing this wouldn’t help matters and, with Saryn yelling at her not to do what she was about to, she yelled, “How dare you, henry? I am doing this because i AM a doctor and because i know that it could save the most important person to this crew. Don’t you realise that? I made sure that no-one else on this crew would be infected. Why in the hell do you think i’m in here? Because i want to be? NO! Because i have a duty to save my patient!” "I do not know what would have happened with the three of you infected." That stopped her. Still angry at him, she looked at him, quizically and asked, “Three? no. There’s the captain and that’s it.” "Oh I guess I hadn't told you yet. Rinn was injured and infected with the Teravere. A quarantine is being set up in Cargo bay 1." That news hit her hard. Shaking, in pain from the captain’s grip, Mia sank to her knees and said, “Oh god. Oh.... Henry.... I....” "Please go to the cargo bay to ensure that everything is done correctly." Her mind was spinning with the realisiation that what she had done had been rash and in vain. She couldn’t move, couldn’t reply. The pain in her wrist was burning and brought a tear to her eyes as she looked up at Henry and said, “What... what now?” "This is not over. When the captain is back to himself we will revisit this moment." She nodded. Tapping her combadge, she told the computer to allow access to the medical transporters again. Slowly, she stood and placed one hand on the captain’s shoulder and whispered, “Sir... I’m sorry.” (Reply Capps) Nodding to Henry, she prised the captain’s fingers from her wrist and hissed as the blood began to flow through to the part that he had grabbed. Standing tall, she raised her hand to her combadge and stopped. “Sir, before i go... We were attacked.” (Reply Jacobs) “Before i came.... A ship attacked us. It’s not one either myself or Saryn recognise. Nothing the computer could identify either. They tried to ram us and then took off. They masked their warp trail but i ordered the officers on the bridge to try and track the warp trail.” (Reply Jacobs) Tapping her combadge, she said, “Computer, transport me to the decontamination area in cargo bay 1. Set me down in the treatment area.” the computer beeped to acknowledge her request and as the blue began to enfold her, she looked at Henry and sought out his eyes and said, “I’m sorry.” (Posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca - Sickbay - First Officer Lieutenant Henry Jacobs - 1018) At this point Henry was running through the corridors until he made it to Sickbay. He looked around the room only to find the regular medical staff, but no signs of Mia or the captain. Henry sprinted over to a window cut out which connected Sickbay to the Decontamination Room. He had found who he was looking for and was about to witness to his disbelief exactly what Ensign Noble had described. Henry balled both fists and slammed them against the window. The attempt was ignored and Henry needed to intervene. He ran around to the decon entrance and watched as the captain grabbed Mia by the arm. At that point he panicked and drew his phaser as he had no other recourse. The captain stopped in his tracks looking both confused and hungry. With the phaser pointed at the captain Henry started in on the Dr. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING. STEP AWAY FROM CAPTAIN CAPPS" The fear had subsided but anger reared its nasty head. The look in Henry's eyes burned with an intensity that looked down deeply into Mia's soul. Coupled with the sweat from his forehead Mia had no choice but to take a tongue lashing. "You were entrusted to watch the ship and you abandoned your post to do what? This? Were you even thinking?" (Reply Mia) "There are two if you in there, Saryn why didn't you stop her? As a doctor you made a promise to preserve life and here you are risking it as if it were your choice." (Reply Mia) Henry realized that he was ranting. He knew he had more than enough reason to do so but nothing was being gained by him talking to Mia in that tone. After getting what he wanted off his chest he was in a calmer state and more open to conversation. "I do not know what would have happened with the three of you infected." (Reply Mia) "Oh I guess I hadn't told you yet. Rinn was injured and infected with the Teravere. A quarantine is being set up in Cargo bay 1." His anger diminished and he had returned to a calmer state where he was once again in control of the situations around him. "Please go to the cargo bay to ensure that everything is done correctly." (Reply Mia) "This is not over. When the captain is back to himself we will revisit this moment." (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Boudicca - Sickbay - First Officer Henry Jacobs - 1020) By the time things had slowed down to a calmer pace Jacobs saw an opportunity to reflect. He stood there staring at Captain Capps, wondering how advanced his mutation had gone and if there was anything left of the real Calvin Capps. The vessel that laid in front of him remained motionless, it was almost in unison with Henry as he had not moved an inch. The only action his body performed were normal automatic functions. The room was silent and only the hum of the medical devices in use could be heard. The silence was deafening and reached down into Henry's core. He snapped back when he realized Mia had said something before she beamed out. ~The ship was attacked. They tried to ram us and then jumped to warp. Ship construction unknown.~ There were too many factors that were not adding up, but the one assumption Henry made was that the ship must have contained the man that was in such a hurry down in the facility. "We need to find them," He said it out loud as if the captain could hear and comprehend him. Regardless of what transpired between them, Henry knew Mia was going to be instrumental in find the cure and saving the captain. Henry cleared his mind and reached for the communicator on his chest but someone on the bridge beat him to the punch. =^= Lieutenant Jacobs, the USS Daughtry is hailing us.=^= ~The Daughtry?~ The only thing that came to mine was the medical relief ship and the Federation engineering corps. They couldn't have come at a better time. The Daughtry and her crew can take over on the planet while the Boudicca pursued the unidentified ship. "Understood, I am on the way." Jacobs cupped the captains hand and turned about and left the decontamination room. (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Boudicca – Cargo Bay 1 – Decontamination Area – CMO Lt Jg Mia Saryn – 1023) As she materialised in the decontamination area, Mia looked around her. The place was a hive of activity with people treating Rinn in full biohazard suits. They all turned to look at her as she sank to her knees and cradled her wrist. Shaking, she couldn’t stand and ask for the help that she needed. Her eyes found the prone body of Rinn and she shook knowing what had happened and what was still to happen to her. (Posted by Jackie Smith) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - First Officer Henry Jacobs - 1030) As the doors to the turbolift swooshed open, Henry hurriedly exited , walked down an insignificant decline and made his way to the commanding officer's chair. He griped both arm rests before raising his right arm to signal someone's attention. He had noticed that Ensign Trei was at the tactical console ready and anxious to receive orders. "Open a channel to the Daughtry" (Reply Trei) "Captain Durhand, it is a pleasure to see you again. You could have not come at a more opportune time. We have encountered the illegal use of Teravere. We attempted to investigate, were attacked, and in the process Captain Capps was injured and infected." Henry watched the the captains actions and mannerisms. He was conspicuously sending commands to his crew members and documenting all the information that was being given to him. "Captain would you like to come aboard? There is much to discuss" Jacobs posed the question and awaited a response. (POsted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Boudicca - Cargo Bay One - Ens jg Harvey Armstrong Sciences - 1031) Lieutenant Rinn began to move a bit. The computers had been interpreted and Harvey found himself amazed at what he had seen in such a short time. He began to pay more attention to the Lieutenant, a security officer. Rinn swallowed, an act that turned out to be harder than advertised and then finally managed to croak out a few weak words. "…how…" Rinn paused for breath, the effort to communicate was more demanding than he had anticipated, "…long?" Harvey looked at the man. “Sir it has not been too long, you seem to have handled your ordeal quite well actually. Do you feel okay?” Harvey asked, genuinely concerned. Hearing of the Teravere Bridgett moved into swift action. She stood and looked over to her chief medical officer. "Began protocols for Teravere." Being the Captain of a medical ship and a doctor herself Bridgett knew exactly what Teravere was and how dangerous it could be. She then turned her attention back to the viewscreen. "It is nice to see you again lieutenant. It is unfortunate it is under these circumstances." "Captain would you like to come aboard? There is much to discuss," Jacobs asked. "Yes, I am available at 1100 hours. I will see you there." The view screen shut off and Captain Durhand readied herself to beam over to the Boudicca. (POsted by Calvin and Darryl) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - TAC/S LT(JG) Detron Trei - 10.35) Jacobs entered the Bridge and went directly to the command chair. He raised his hand to get the attention of the Bridge. He ordered him to open a channel to the USS Daugherty. He did so and Jacobs talked to CPT Durband asking him to come over to discuss issues. He made some notes on his PADD then prompted Jacobs's attention . "Sir I have two modified photon torpedoes ready with the same stun and freeze pellets as on Color II. I have packed them with 200 stun and 200 freeze. The theory states that it will create waves of stun and freeze rendering the enemy ship stunned even through warp and slower with the freeze. (Posted by Edward) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - TAC/S LT(JG) Detron Trei - 10.55) He heard the response from Jacobs that they had to wait for the Daughery to take over on Color II before they could leave orbit and they couldn't pursue the enemy ship until then. He said to keep the torpedoes ready until they are needed. "Understood sir. Shall I start to calculate the probable location of the enemy ship when we are ready to pursue?" He really didn't need a response for that because he started to process. He figured the enemy ship would not be too far from Color II that they couldn't get back quickly if trouble erupted on the planet. With the prospect of Traverse gas, the possibility was likely. He projected a probable course. When he found the most probable area of location, he relayed that to Jacobs. "Sir I believe the probable area of location of the enemy ship is an asteroid field on the western perimeter of the star system. Do You comply with the findings sir.?" (Posted by Edward) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - First Officer Lieutenant Henry Jacobs - 1057) Ensign Trei brought up a strong point. "Sir I believe the probable area of location of the enemy ship is an asteroid field on the western perimeter of the star system. Do you comply with the findings sir?" He gripped the arm rest of the chair and opened his mouth to speak again. "I am reading the information on my screen continue to monitor. (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Boudicca - Transporter Room 1 - CO Captain Bridgett Durhand & FO Lt. Henry Jacobs - 1100) Her particles reassembled just as they did every time. When she felt that she had movement back she began to step off of the pad. Welcoming her was Lt. Jacobs himself. Seeing him she smiled and extended her hand. "Hello Henry," was all she said. “Welcome aboard the Boudicca, shall we get started?” Henry asked, knowing that every minute that passed was of great importance. "Yes, lets get started as soon as possible. After you." Bridgett then followed alongside of Henry as he led the way to their conference room. As the two of them walked Henry filled the captain in on the events that transpired when the Boudicca first arrived at Color II. The excitement of the beast and the zombies was one thing but to now be coupled with criminals conducting illegal experiments with an outlawed substance seemed to be a lot for just one crew to handle. The conversation the two held was enough to keep them busy while they traveled to the conference room. Henry approached the door and gestured with his hand for the captain to enter first. The doors swooshed open and Henry followed her inside. After the two of them sat down Henry jumped right into the information he had to show the captain. Tapping on a command pad Henry activated the holographic interface that appeared in the center of the conference room table. The chemical composition of the substance Teravere came to life in front of them in a three dimensional representation. “So this is why we are still here. Early this morning the computers detected trace amounts of the substance in the southern region of the planet. Captain Capps ordered the senior crew members down to the planet to investigate and if possible to stop and secure the use of the Teravere. In the process the captain was injured by a local wild animal and in result became infected. “ He pressed another command on the padd and a live feed of the decontamination room showed up on the wall in front of them. The two of them could see the captain laying in his restraints seeming lifeless. Seeing the captain in that state only made Jacobs even more determined to get things underway. “I continued the away mission into an underground facility where we eventually found where the experiments were being conducted. After encountering some resistance we were able to secure some of the computer terminals and bring them aboard. The crew is currently working on a cure for the captain and to unveil any information that can be retrieved from the computers.” He finally showed a replay of the unidentified ship that attacked the Boudicca and then attempted to ram her. The replay showed the ship make a run for the Boudicca’s underbelly and then jump to warp, a tactic that most likely was a last attempt to get away knowing that it was no match for the larger and more powerful ship. Bridgett studied the ship on the screen to see if she recognized it. Of course she didn't and she turned her attention back to the First Officer. “Ma’am. I need to pursue the ship. I am 200% positive that Captain Capps would be doing the same thing if he were able to. The people on that ship must have more information on who and why the Teravere was being used by, and if they have a cure than it is my duty to go and find it.” "My ship isn't the most powerful ship, but it is capable to give you a hand in finding that ship," the medical CO offered. Henry thought carefully before answering. “I appreciate your offer but the Boudicca is equipped well enough to take on this challenge. Your ship was sent with the relief personnel to help repair the planet side population. We cannot afford to wait that long for you to finish here. Any further delay and the ship may get away and this opportunity may be lost forever.” "Understood. As ordered I hereby take command of the relief effort of Color II. My ship waits for all information that your ship and crew have assembled while being here. You are free to go catch your attacker Lieutenant." The two command officers said their farewells to each other and then made their way back to the transporter pad where Captain Durhand returned to her ship. (posted by Calvin and Darryl) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - CO Captain Calvin Capps - 1630) The Captain was back on the bridge where he felt at home. The doctor had cleared him from sickbay, but he had to go back to receive a quick checkup every hour. As expected absolutely no amount of Teravere was founded. Through out the day the Boudicca's crew was more busy than it ever had been from the start of the mission, if that was even possible. With the Captain on lite duty it was up Lt. Jacobs to go meet with the Colorian government to introduce Captain Durhand of the medical starship. The quarantine on the Boudicca was eventually lifted altogether as there was no longer a risk of the Teravere spreading on the ship. The doctors also took great care of Lieutenant Rinn and any other injured crew. With the help of Lieutenant Trei and Ensign Romanoff, there was a reliable clue of where their escaped attacker was headed. With everything else now taken care of it was now time for the Boudicca to chase. Captain Capps sat in his command chair. The bridge held most of his senior staff, and he could feel the edge and eagerness in the room to capture the brutal man behind the attack of Color II. Looking to his First Officer, "prepare to break orbit and go to warp Lieutenant." (reply Jacobs) Everyone followed Lieutenant Jacobs orders and before he gave the go head the Captain straightened his jacket. "Engage," he commanded and the hunt began. (posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Boudicca - Bridge - TAC/S LT(JG) Detron Trei - 16.35) He heard the order to engage and the ship was speeding in pursuit of the enemy ship. With the help of he and Romanoff they had a probable location of the ship. He had the modified torpedoes ready on the order. He turned to Capps to tell him of the option. "Sir I have two modified torpedoes ready for your order. If Jacobs has not informed you, they will send waves of stun and freeze that theoretically will seriously stun the enemy and freeze them in place. " (Posted by Edward) (USS Boudicca – Bridge – First Officer Lieutenant Henry Jacobs – 1640) Henry finally found a break in the action to take a seat in his chair right next to Captain Capps. The events of the day brought mixed feelings and the only relief Henry seemed to get was that he was not working alone. The Daughtry made it to orbit and took over the relief of the planet while the Boudicca prepared to chase after the unidentified ship that had attacked it previously. Even better news was the fact that Captain Capps had been cleared for duty and now sat next to him on the bridge. He did not let his guard down as the captain still had to check in with Sickbay every hour but he was even more confident that things were returning to normal. Mia and her actions were sitting heavily on his mind. She did an extremely great job at taking care and curing the captain. To follow suite Lieutenant Rinn was recovering as best as could be expected of a person being impaled and facing the possibility of exposure to Terravere. When he thought of her hard work he could not neglect the equally diligent work put forth by the rest of the crew. The cure would not have been found and administered if the crew had not risked life and limb to get it, and for this he was appreciative. All the good that ran through his mind only brought him back to an issue that had only been scratched and not fully addressed. Mia had literally abandoned the post on the bridge that Henry had entrusted her with. To add insult to injury she acted on a half-thought, impulse, that had the prospect of endangering herself and everyone else on board the Boudicca. This was something he just could not overlook. He was now the ship’s first officer and it was his duty to deal with the performance of the crew. While he did not know if he would bring the issue to the captain’s attention he knew that he would himself have to discuss her actions with her again to ensure she would not make such a careless mistake again. Henry was well lost in his thought when he noticed that the captain was looking in his direction as if he had said something to him. It was obvious that he had said something and now Henry was forced to think back to what he had said. “prepare to break orbit and go to warp Lieutenant” It was clear enough as it came back to Jacobs. He stood to address everyone on the bridge, “All departments prepare for departure.” The bridge came to life as all departments reported ready to break orbit. “Hail the Daughtry, inform them we are leaving.” Someone acknowledged his order and once complete reported that they had received the communiqué. Henry walked up to the helm officer and spoke loud enough for everyone to hear. “Helm, let’s get out of here, three quarters impulse. Set heading to match the coordinates of the asteroid field Ensign Trei calculated.” The helm acknowledged and the Boudicca quickly moved out of its standard orbit from the planet. The coordinates were locked in and the ship was ready to go warp. Henry walked back to his chair and nodded in the direction of the captain. The nod signified that the ship was all his. He heard the words, “engage” and the ship began its chase. (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) ================================================================================ Enjoy!
