Stardate:2408.05.29 Mission: Swords to Ploughshares Day: 10 Stardate: 2408.05.29 (Tobias V - Temple, Below the Hatch - TAC/ASC - Ensign JG Niles George - 1024) After Niles had reached his fellow colleague and spoke the best he could, while trying to catch his own lung full of air. He watched as Ensign Renora pulled out his tricorder. Niles couldn't be sure if he was still in a dead zone, but was going to find out. Tau soon was tapping his device, so he guessed that it worked; however, not how well. Since no one spoke in the prolonged silence, he thought he'd speak again. "It's back the way you we just came. Follow me," Niles said gesturing back toward himself. Finding the way through dark vents wasn't the hardest part. Finding his way, without passing the hatch he was looking for, in the dark vents was the problem. Especially since every twist and turn seemed to looked identical to the last. Nonetheless, the hatch quickly revealed itself to them. The hatch looked the same as the last time he had seen it. Surreptitious, shadowy, and completely sealed shut. The metallic feel of the cold surface felt as cold as a ice cube, and smooth as a pebble that has been flattened and leveled by the ocean's currents. In the new 'so silent you can hear a pin drop from across the room' silence, both of them began to hear the faint sound of a phaser being fired. The same echo came like before from around them. Soon the phaser echo quit and Niles looked to Tau. “Niles,” he whispered, “Either our team just won, or there’s temporary chaos out there. I say we couldn’t ask for better timing." The doctor spoke quietly, knelt on a knee, and glanced upwards. Niles could see he was preparing to brace his hands onto the hatch above. Niles thought to himself. ~This Ensign seems to always want to go somewhere. I think there is a word he could learned named... patience.~ Inspite of his thoughts he spoke up, "Hold on Ensign. Let's let things cool off a bit, before rushing in." The two Ensigns were now ready. "Ok, Mister Renora, I think it's clear," he said as weighty as he could sound. They both moved as comfortably into position to push. When they were both got into a proper posture to thrust up, Niles spoke once more. "We will go on three, alright? Ready... One... Two... Three." The two of them together began to shove on the hatch. To all the training Niles had received, he decided to use his back as leverage and legs to push up. As the two of them push on the persistent door, he could see that the sealant was slowly beginning to fragment off on to the ground. After sometime of shoving, it broke open with a 'Boom!' Both Tau and himself remained down cautious to the thought there was a guard in the room. However, after some time, no one came to inspect the hatch. Niles gestured to stand up, but saw that he had strangely pulled out his tricorder. ~Does he not know where he's at?~ Niles thought with some puzzlement. Shaking the thought off, he stood up. Soon the doctor followed his example. The room was massive. Light was beaming down onto the center of the room. As he followed the light, to the center, he spotted the image of a lone object. It seemed to be put on show for it was sitting on a plinth type stand. Niles was in wonder. Could this be the device they were looking for? In such a manner to be placed out in the open? The facts just didn't add up. Once Niles had pulled himself up from the vents, he had already seen there was no guards. Which also added to the uncanny questions. Though, those questions were shorted lived when the sound from the door began to recoil through the room. He couldn't tell who or what it was, but it wasn't a good consideration. He began stepping his feet back as quietly as he could back toward the vents. But soon the sound stopped. This was quickly becoming the strangest away mission he had ever been on. Not even a full minute had pasted before a voice broke the silence. "If only we could just transport this back to the ship," said the fellow Ensign. Niles's eye widened. Not only did Tau speck, which completely scared the wits out of him, but he knew about the device as well as he did. "Ensign Renora, you know we can't do that! It would destabilize the device and cause the core of it to blow us sky high," he said trying to sound as serious as he could. This was turning out to be a very remarkable mission operation, and Niles was smack dab in the middle of the undertaking. Things that day were anything but going as planned and, as the Captain explained, everyone seemed to be in religious jail. Though, strangely enough, it was questionable to why a temple would have a dungeon in the first place. Then it came to the unending questions all day. Why he had asked to come on this away mission, was ending up more of a problem then a benefit. Worst of all was that his once nice silky-smooth tunic, was now become a rough itchy sweater. Niles had let Tau lead down the tunnel. He could see that the doctor was using his tricorder to locate the position of the rest of the away team. What caught Niles off guard though was when Tau abruptly stopped. Trying to peer around the compact area, he could see dim light coming from a vent. ~This must be the place.~ Niles moved to the reverse side of the fellow officer to see down the hole. Trying not to make a sound he help Renora search for guards. First, he tried his tricorder, but this idea lead to little accomplishment. The signals were scrambled and it was reading 1992.5 persons in a one square foot area. Secondly, he tried following the example of the Ensign and look down, but this also lead to problems. From where he sat, he could see a wall and a big scratch mark on that wall. Finally, Niles gave up and just sat back to let the medical officer do the "dirty" work. This option did work. He would be there to help if needed, otherwise, he was just a obstacle in the way. After a few minutes of sitting (more like meditating,) Niles had thought of a few opinions. There was just one problem. As he had opened his eyes he was seeing the Ensign do the first part of his plan. Which was, unscrew the screws. Niles leaned forward to help hold the grate from falling flat, straight down on the hallway floor below. When Tau had reached the third, Niles watched as the screw burst into the air. Out of the officer's sweaty Starfleet hands. Quickly, he tried to swipe at it, but missed. Luckily, the Mister Renora, snatched the screw in mid-air. Just before falling to the danger zone of the lower level. Niles's heart, little by little, began to pump again. Suddenly, it snapped into his head. Like a twig being sat on by a rhino. His jumped to look at Tau, but he could tell he had gotten the same idea as he. Niles nodded in agreement even if the doctor didn't see him nod. Just as he had hope. Niles watched as Renora chucked the screw down through the, now, half opened grate. As if nothing had even happened, it fell silent. Once again, Tau through a screw. While both of them held there sound of breathing. There was still two chances... if needed. (Reply None yet) (Posted by Niles George Stardate:2408.05.29 Mission: Swords to Ploughshares Day 10 Stardate: 2408.05.29 (Tobias V - The Temple of the Divine Three, Dungeon - ACMO Tau Renora Ens.(Jg) - 1107) Dr. Tau Renora began to breathe again. He had been holding his breath since dropping that second air duct screw, anxiously waiting to hear “Hey what was that? Over by the vent!” When this call did not echo throughout the temple, Renora allowed air to enter his lungs once more. Now he would wait 30 seconds or so, to see if the away team noticed his signal. He was banking on Lt. Yallix looking at the corner; Renora knew Efrosians could see the heat spectrum, but didn’t know to what extent. If he could see two humanoids in the air vents… Dr. Tau reached into his tunic and withdrew a small medical kit he had brought with him. Quickly he opened it, and withdrew the hypospray inside, along with a vial of Tetrovaline. In doing his pre-mission research of the Tobian physiology, he was surprised to discover they had a rather high immune system. It seems, as their bodies metabolize the molecular alloys in the air, it then converts them into synthetic antibodies. The appearance effect is obvious, with the metallic skin tones, a side effect of the metal in their blood. This new revelation withstanding, Tetrovaline was the obvious choice for this planet. He quickly dosed a standard adult dose into the Spray. This would be a tricky estimation, this was the first actual contact they would have with Federation medicine. They would have no tolerances built up from a lifetime of medical treatments, this shot would be strong for a human. But with a heightened immune system, under dosing would be disastrous. In any case, all he was looking for was thirty minutes, a far cry from the 10 hours normally caused. The metal antibodies would revive them much sooner than any human. With the sedative in one hand and his med kit back inside his tunic, he twisted off the final screw. Diversion or no, he couldn’t wait any longer. Holding the grating in place, he removed the final screw and took a deep breath. Then suddenly, from the cell, came an angry yell. "You selfish, servant of the messenger whore! How dare you detain me for the likes of her!" "Shut up you, heretic!" came the reply from a guard in the hallway. "I may be a heretic, but at least I don't follow a whore who spreads her legs for every so called saint in exchange for power!" came back the first voice, Lt. Yallix’s. "You will not profane the name and office of the Messenger in such a manner!" the guard retorted, furious. Renora stifled a laugh, and smiled, as the Asst. Ops Chief stepped forward into the reach of the guard, who had by now dropped his spear. Lt. cha’ Nooras had also joined in the fun, screaming at the guard to leave Yallix alone. The second guard came over to deal with her. Dr. Tau looked up at Ens. George and then dropped the grating, instantly following suit, dropping into the hallway, just as the Second Officer’s hand shot through the bars towards the guard’s neck gripping his nerve. The guard slumped, and his partner spun on his heel, taken aback by this sudden and unexplained prisoner revolt (or maybe he was just shocked that they seemed to be somewhat successful so far). The doctor stood there, smiling happily, silver eyes glinting, holding a hypospray in one raised arm. The guard spun around to find himself looking this new comer eye-to-eye. His mind blanked. Thirty seconds ago, these had been docile prisoners! Now he was alone, and apparently, surrounded. He looked back at Renora in pleading confusion. His confusion didn’t last long, as Ens. Tau calmly placed the spray on the side of the guard’s neck, pressing the injector. And as quickly and efficiently as the Vulcan’s nerve pinch dropped the first guard, the doctor’s chemicals dropped the second. Renora reached down and grabbed the keys from the second guard’s belt. “Didja miss me?” he asked, smiling at the six of them (including the Tobian whom Dr. Tau hadn’t seen before), as he slid the associated key into the lock. Detron noticed Dorga's face was showing discomfort of some kind and holding her abdomen area. He only had a guess, but it was most likely need for food or a need to use the Ladies Room. With her being the sole female in the room and the waste bucket out in the open , this would not be a suitable situation for her. He heard an argument at the door. He moved closer to the door to see Yalix argue with the guards. Yalix shot out insults left and right. Detron enjoyed the show when Dorga reached through the door grate and used the Vulcan Nerve Pinch on the more aggressive guard. Detron stepped next to her and whispered in her ear. "Good job taking one of them out. You can use me as a shield if you need to relieve yourself." Detron waited for her response. The remaining guard spun around but it was to late to get the spear he'd left up the hallway, and he was just beyond the 2O's reach but Tau was prepared. The doctor stood there, smiling happily, holding a hypospray in one raised arm, and as the turned around, he found himself eye-to-eye with the doctor who efficiently administered his sleeping potion with one foul swoop of his hand to the guard's neck. When the man collapsed, Tau reached down and grabbed the keys from his belt. “Didja miss me?” Dr. Tau asked, smiling at them all as he started to unlock the door. "Yes, what kept you so long?" Dorga quipped, returning his smile. She was about to ask him if he had a magic potion to relieve distended bladders when Detron stepped next to her and whispered in her ear. "Good job taking one of them out. You can use me as a shield if you need to relieve yourself." "Great Kahless, is it that obvious?" Dorga whispered back and gave him a hug of gratitude. "Thanks, you're very sweet and I appreciate it." She told him, hurrying over to the crude bucket and short plank of wood, where she quickly and gratefully availed herself of it's facilities, while Detron with his back turned to her, shielded her from the others. With one basic need filled and the other kept at bay by force of will, Dorga was all set to get the mission finished. Orion went along with the small talk four about the first week of the trip. Up to the point when he realised he was starting to get behind in what he was studying. " Why are you so intent on doing the back up research on everyone on the Boudicca before we get there. Don't you think that will take away some of the surprise of meeting new people." She said in one of her long rants, as she was checking the medical stores also on bored the ship. " No " was Orion's short answer, the only thing worse than her endless banter was the mental traffic she bombarded him with on a constant basis. Has he continued his work studying the PADD in his hand, everyone in a while looking over the course that was set in the flight console with any luck he would be at the Boudicca by weeks end, has soon as they circumvented an asteroid field that blocked their path " Okay, why don't you tell me about you fam...." She started but a sharp glance from Orion told her that to proceed on that course of conversation was far from wise. " alright sensitive subject." "Let me ask you a question?." Orion said kindly " Why did they send you with me to the Boudicca?" " To pick up a wounded officer and bring that person back to Geneva." She answered. "So I take it, your mission is pretty urgent then." Orion answered back a sly smile gracing his face an ideal brewing with in his mind. "I would say so." Mcbaie answered, as Orion turned to his flight console. "Why do you ask?" "This is why." as his hands move over the flight control, and the shuttle banks hard toward the asteroid field. ~ He can't be serious ~ Ensign Mcbaie thought as the shuttle broke into the the asteroid field, and Orion smiled at her passing thought as the shuttle shifted and rocked from side to side dodging some of the smaller rocks and debris. When a large asteroid appeared before the small shuttle. Mcbaie jumped into her seat, concern all over her face now showing a pallor. As Orion punched his next manoeuvre into the flight control console. Then the shuttle came alive as it rolled and pitted itself into a extreme angle dive, passing only a few meters from the face of the asteroid. Flowing under the large rock then rolling up right pulling out of the hammerhead move. Then pitching the shuttle up over the top of the next asteroid. The shuttle levelled out then as Ensign Mcbaie tried to find her stomach. This section of the asteroid field had several large asteroids, but it was also the narrowest and there for the shortest to cross. Orion had the computer recalculated the new course to the Boudicca and was well pleased to learn they cut a good three days off their trip. As a few more decent size rocks came into view. Orion piloted the shuttle pass them easily. Orion was glad for the chance to stretch his piloting skills, but a look over to his companion this trip showed clearly that she has never been in a craft flown like this. Orion felt a small pang of regret at his action, but the means were worth it. Especially if there was a life on the line. " Our course should ease out a bit once we exit the asteroid field, which should be any moment I hope your glad to know we sheared about three days off our course." She was angry or she was until she heard the amount of time saved she wanted to get back to Geneva, Mcbaie was not one built for the rigours of deep space and the cramped condition on the shuttle craft were getting a bit tiring. The shuttle then went into warp and accelerated to it maximum cruising speed. She did however decide to give Orion a bit more space and let him study his PADD, without interruption. She also let him enter a day long deep meditation, from which Orion came out of feeling refreshed and at peace, with the Boudicca now on their scanners and Orion knew it would only be a matter of time before she would be coming into view. By the next day, they were with in range of the Boudicca. Orion hit communication controls and hailed the bridge of the Boudicca "Boudicca this is the shuttle Ironloft, Ensign Micheal Jay Orion reporting, request permission to land." He piloted the shuttle to the shuttle bay waiting for permission to land the craft with in the bay. Once given he brought the ship in and landed the craft. ( reply Capt. There was no windows to be found and the solitary deserted door remained resting undisturbed. The only living, warmed objects left in the room was the air filled bodies of two Ensigns that seemed to wonder as if to find something. At the same time, investigating the mysterious and enigmatic device of the misplaced Federation. Mister Renora and Mister George had been lingering in a chamber of some kind for the past few minutes. Without much success of any new leads of knowledge. Oddly enough, the more Niles examined the device, the more questions came to mind. Either his mind did not have the capacity to comprehend the wonder of the device, or he was focused so much that he wasn't thinking straight. Whichever, it was the same to him. As Niles centered his thoughts to the device, he didn't notice the other Ensign embark to leave. The first time he had seen him leaving was when he turned to look around the room again for some kind of hints. Although, he wasn't sure what. After spotting the doctor, he could see he was heading back for the vents. For the first time today, Niles would happily agree. He couldn't move it, let alone touch it, so his only opinion was to join Tau. It was also he on him to stop thinking so hard. Ensign Renora was out of specking range, so he sped up to catch up the unpredictable Ensign once more. Jumping into the vent, he crouched down. He knew they couldn't leave the hatch open or it would be quickly reported and guarded. This left himself to close it the best he could, by himself. ~I'm truly getting my exercise today. Sure, hope that the Lieutenant gives me some R&R after this.~ Reaching down to move into a inching crawl, he could hear the fate sound of voices. He quickly staggered to follow the sound of speech. The chatter of voices gradually got louder and louder. Maneuvering around the corner, Niles incidentally bump into Tau. He had caught the doctor in a middle of a sentence. "...George and I have found the device in a secure, but empty room, but we have a back door in. From the sounds earlier, though, I believe some of the team may be in danger," Tau had said. Niles was inquiry. Had he missed a communication message? However, he just listened in to the conversation. =^=I'm afraid we have a problem, gentlemen. Commander Stolev as well as Lieutenants cha' Nooras, Trei, Yallix and Lorimar have been intercepted by temple guards and are currently being held in some kind of detainment cell within the temple itself. We will transmit their co-ordinates to you - you will have to stage some kind of rescue or breakout as you will need Commander Stolev or the codes he has to deactivate the device. They have company in their cell, a Tobian. So you will have to be circumspect, as well as quick. We can monitor the position of the guards from here, but with a degree of inaccuracy so you'll have to keep a look out yourselves too. Try to avoid being seen but if you can't avoid it then use the minimum force necessary to render anyone you encounter unconscious.=^= “Yes sir.” Renora replied quickly. At the end of the words said by Mr. Renora, Tau's tricorder began to beep. Which was odd because he should have been receiving information to. Suddenly the thought of the dead zone popped into his head. He had an idea. Niles once again moved to go farther down the venting system. Once he had moved passed the position of Tau, he stopped. In less than three seconds was it before his own tricorder began to beep. He had been in the edge of the dead zone. Once Niles had got a glance of the information from his tricorder, he looked up. Tau had already been looking at him. ~What next?~ (Reply None) (Posted by Niles George) Stardate:2408.05.29 Mission: Sword to Ploughshares Day: 10 Stardate: 2408.05.09 (USS Boudicca - Ten Forward - ASCO - En. With his meal finished, Christian figured he couldn't put off the inevitable any longer. His next destination was Sickbay for his boarding medical, which he had hoped to avoid as long as possible. He grabbed his PADD, waved to Ariana on his way out and headed for the turbolift. "Deck 7, Sickbay, please." His request entered, the doors closed and the lift began to ascend. Christian had gone over the things Arania had shared about her people and culture, and he was intrigued. To be the only person of your kind in a whole universe had to be exciting and daunting at the same time. (USS Boudicca - Deck Seven Sickbay - ASCO - En. Christian Talmot-Day-10-1205) The doors opened and he strode out into the hallway and headed for Sickbay. Once there, he waited outside the door and observed. There was a lot of commotion and he wasn't sure if now was a good time. He was about to turn around when a corpsman asked Christian if he needed help. He told the young Vulcan that he was here for his Physical, but that he would come back later. The corpsman reassured him that it wouldn't be any trouble and he guided the ensign to the nearest available biobed. "Wait here, and one of the medical officers will be with you shortly." A few moments later, a nurse appeared with a gown and told Christian to change and wait for the doctor on the biobed. She asked for his med ical records and he pulled them up on his PADD. The nurse synced her Medical PADD with Christian's and his medical file was downloaded. Christian slipped into the gown and securely attached the velcro on the back. He folded his uniform and set it on a shelf beside the bed. He then hopped onto the bed and awaited the arrival of the medical officer. The nurse came back and took his vitals and the required blood work and offered him some juice or water while he waited. Christian had been going over his correspondence on his PADD when he started to doze off. A physician assistant, a young female trill, approached his biobed. She had the most amazing freckles that started at her forehead and down the side of her neck. He realized he was staring and quickly looked away as he started to blush. The medical officer gave a small smile and said, "I'm Medical Officer Flax and I'm here to give you your physical. I've gone over your medical records briefly and everything seems in20order - nothing seems to stick out. Do you have any questions?" "No, none. Let's get the show on the road." She tilted her head and gave a quirky smile as she tried to decipher the terran colloquialism. She started with the preliminary examination and then later finished up with the stress test. "Get dressed and I'll be back in a minute to wrap this up." The female trill went to bank the results of the test into the computer and came back a few minutes later with a hypospray. She pressed the hypospray against his neck and injected the ampule's contents into his system. "This should update you with your inoculations. You may feel a little under par for the rest of the day, but otherwise you are okay. If you have any other difficulties, please return." She dismissed herself and blended into the fold of medical officers at work in Sickbay. Christian fastened his jacket and tugged on the waist to straighten out the wrinkles. He grabbed his PADD and decided to take the Captain up on the offer to have Lieutenant Macbeth "show him the ropes." Once outside of Sickbay, he accessed the nearest wall console and prompted the computer for Lt. Macbeth's current location. "Lt. Macbeth is on the bridge." His destination revealed, he strolled down the hall and caught the first available turbolift. "Bridge, please." (USS Boudicca - Bridge - ASCO - En. Christian Talmot - 10-1316) The lift was motionless as it climbed the seven decks to the bridge. The doors opened and he winced at the brightness of the light on the bridge. He stepped out and looked around for Lt. Macbeth. He caught a glimpse of the young lieutenant at the science station and made his approach. " Lieu....aagh." Still squinting while his eyes adjusted to the light, he missed the stool in front of him and tripped and fell. He landed face first as he skidded across the carpet. His feet still entangled in the chair, he had let go of his PADD as he tried to get his balance, and clanked against a console and fell on the floor. Several of the bridge crew ran to his side and offered assistance, but Christian kindly turned them away. He finally got to his feet and was adjusting his uniform when someone handed him his PADD. The screen was chipped and a little worse for wear, but he was glad to have it back in his possession. He looked up to thank his fellow officer and it was none other than Lt. Macbeth. "Are you okay, sir? It looks like you took quite a fall. Maybe you should get checked out in Sickbay." =0 A Christian nervously chuckled and blushed. His face started to match the red carpet burns on his left cheek and chin. "Oddly enough, I just finished with my physical and had come to see if you would show me around." His PADD started to chirp repeatedly and Christian tried to stop it, but the PADD did not respond. The intensity and rapidity of the chirps increased and nothing he did worked to stop it. Finally, in a moment of frustration, he smacked the PADD against the corner of a console that resulted in a loud "thwack" and snapped the PADD in half. The sound and force of his action was more than he intended and as he looked up, he realized that the crowd that had dispersed a few seconds earlier, after seeing he was okay was now looking at him again. ~Great, all eyes are back on Christian again!~ "Uhh...that sounds great. I have to finish these scans and then I would be able to show you around. Give20me about an hour and I can come get you at your room." Her body posture changed and she seemed a little more uncomfortable than a few moments before. "Good idea, I should probably lay low for a little bit, since I made such a grand entrance. I'll see you then. Bye." He nodded to the lieutenant and she smiled as she turned back to her station. Christian carefully laid in a course to the lift and made his exit. His left hand covered his eyes as he shook his head in disbelief as the lift sank towards his deck. (USS Boudicca -Deck Three - Living Quarters-ASCO-En.Christian Talmot-10-1336) Once there, he quickly stepped into his room, leaving his embarrassment in the hallway. He probably wouldn't see Lt. Macbeth, but who could blame her? He guessed that as ASCO, he could order her to show him around, but what would20be the point? He needed to build relationships with his fellow shipmates, not alienate himself. He placed his shattered PADD on his desk and went into the bedroom. He pulled a dermal regenerator he had "borrowed" from his medic training, and went into the bathroom. He turned the device on low and as he looked in the mirror, he ran the device over his face and the rug burn and scars started to disappear. He turned the instrument off and slid it into one of his drawers in the bathroom counter. He thumbed the lock on the drawer so only he had access to his contraband. He splashed some cold water on his face and toweled off, leaving the towel on the sink. He examined his face as ran his finger over the soft new skin that replaced the ugly red marks that had graced his face just moments ago. H e went to the replicator and ordered a sweet iced tea. He grabbed the glass and headed for his couch. He sat back on the couch, propped one foot on the coffee table and reclined his head. He closed his eyes and slowly swirled the cool glass in his hand as he listened to the ice cubes clink against the inside rim of the glass. Christian decided he wanted to listen to some music while he relaxed and waited for the lieutenant, so he had the computer access his music database. "Vulcan Dirge Music, pre-Surak era, please." The room began to fill with the mystical chants and gongs of the ancient vulcan monks as he fell asleep. (reply, any) (posted by Shawn Hager)
