He would get Carol onto the damage assessment that Salid had asked for , whilst he and this Mr. Raschen went over there findings about the crippled freighter . The meeting came to an end with it beng opened to questions ,. of which there was none . On being dismissed , Paul headed straight for the engine room to get things rolling . --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante Main Engineering SEO, Lt. It had been a while since he was on an armed away mission. His heart rate increased with nervousness and anticipation of what they would find. In a brief moment Matrix found himself in a cold sweat, realizing his mortality. Shaking the emotion off and steadied himself. ~Get it together Matrix, you've trained for this.~ Matrix tapped his Commbadge, "Matrix here, acknowledged FO. Fifteen minutes." Closing the weapons locker, Matrix hoisted a phaser rifle over his shoulder and pressed the status button and smiled at the ready indicator display. Rosenante – Operations Office -Ops- ENS (jg) Chance Raschen-1131) Ever have the nagging feeling in the pit of your stomach of once you finish working on a project, something about it makes it seem like it just wasn’t done completely? That is how Chance felt when he gave his report on his initial findings of the Sky of Tomorrow’s logs. As a consequence, Chance went over the logs again and again until he noticed one entry that just didn’t make any since to him. Unfortunately for Raschen, the only way he could think of to confirm his suspicions was to be on the freighter itself. =^=Salid to Raschen, Bird, Ro'Dal, Caskie, Matrix, Carson, Abernathy, T'nar and Hezan; please report to transporter room one in fifteen minutes. Come equipped with a standard hand phaser and a Type III rifle in addition to tricorders. =^= When Chance heard the orders to report, he thought to him self ~Damn, I need to let Salid know about what I already have on my person now before I wind up in this brig.~ Tapping his comm.-badge Chance replied saying “Roger that sir, Raschen out” Then off he went to get issued the items required by the First Officer. A few minutes later Chance was waiting in the passageway just outside of the Transporter Room, awaiting Salid’s arrival. When Chance saw the FO approaching, Raschen stepped up to him saying “Sir, I need to let you know about a couple of items I have on my person that I haven’t had a chance to remove after I reported to the skipper this morning at zero-nine.” (Reply Salid) Leaning the phase-rifle against his own leg, Raschen then displayed what resembled a scuba-divers watch that was strapped to his wrist by stretching out his arm and pulling up his sleeve and said “I have this for starters; it’s a mini stun phaser with working chronometer.” (Reply Salid) Slowly reaching behind his back and under his jacket, Raschen pulled out a matching pair of razor sharp Bowie Knives. “I also have an item in each of my boot heels that can be used to get out of most any jail/brig cell, and that's it sir.” Chance said as he re-sheathed the knives on his back, and picked up his phase-rifle. (Reply Salid) Smiling, Chance simply said “Some habits die hard sir,” then with a more serious look on his face, Raschen continued “but I do understand what you’re saying sir and, after we get back I will do my best to adjust accordingly.” Then turning around and signaling for the FO to precede him, Raschen entered the transporter room behind Salid. (Reply Salid) (Posted by Charlie Raschen) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Corridor Outside Transporter Room One- FO- Lt. Cmdr. Ahmed Ibn Salid-1138) Ahmed was on his way to the transporter room, when he was stopped by Charlie Raschen just short of the door. “Sir, I need to let you know about a couple of items I have on my person that I haven’t had a chance to remove after I reported to the skipper this morning at zero-nine.” "What sort of things, mister Raschen Ahmed asked warily. Leaning the phase-rifle against his own leg, Raschen then displayed what resembled a scuba-divers watch that was strapped to his wrist by stretching out his arm and pulling up his sleeve and said “I have this for starters; it’s a mini stun phaser with working chronometer.” Ahmed quirked his eyebrow, "A mini stun phaser? Now that's novel." he replied even as Raschen pulled a pair of wicked looking knives from hidden sheathes in the small of his back and held them where they could be clearly seen, before adding, "I also have an item in each of my boot heels that can be used to get out of most any jail/brig cell, and that's it sir." Ahmed nodded. "I see no issues with the stun watch, provided that it won't kill. The devices in your boot heels, likewise, although when we get back, I'd like more details. As for the knives…" he paused. " Blades are very final as weapons, as such they are a absolute last resort, as tools, I find them very useful. If that's acceptable to you then we can carry on, otherwise stow your knives in your quarters and return here immediately. And realize that the permission that I am giving you is only for this away mission, when we return you are to follow the Captain's orders in their entirety. Am I clear on that?" Smiling, Chance simply said “Some habits die hard sir,” then with a more serious look on his face, Raschen continued “but I do understand what you’re saying sir and, after we get back I will do my best to adjust accordingly.” Then turning around and signaling for the FO to precede him, Raschen entered the transporter room behind Salid. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante Main Engineering SEO, Lt. Please report to transporter room one in fifteen minutes . come equipped with a standard hand phaser and a type III rifle in addition to tricorders . ( Reply Any ) ( Posted By Paul ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (U.S.S. Rosenante – Transporter Room 1 -Ops- ENS (jg) Chance Raschen-1202) When Lt. Bird entered the room, Raschen was glad to discover that he wasn’t the last one to arrive. Once everyone took their place on the transporter pad, Chance listened to Salid give his little brief. Chance listened to the FO speaking “I have a few standing orders. First of which is that no one is to beam any survivors to this ship until that has been cleared by the CMO and only then directly to quarantine. Secondly, we do not have a clear understanding of what is happening here, but judging by the signs of the struggle I do not anticipate things to go well. With that said, if there is no other choice, and I do mean no other choice, use of deadly force is authorized to protect yourselves and your team mates, as well as survivors. You are not to resort to such force unless you can not retreat or you are left with no other choice. Does everyone understand that order? You will be held accountable to prove that your actions were necessary should it happen?" After seeing the video logs of the away team’s mission to the freighter that morning and then being ordered not to kill ~That’s frigging insane~ he thought, but responded saying “Aye, aye sir” while nodding his head. After it was put out how the Chain of Command was to be on the planet, they were beamed down to the surface. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Transporter Room One- CMO Lt (jg) Josh Caskie -1202.5) Once everyone had assembled Salid spoke to them all giving them orders about what could and could not happen during their time on the planet. Josh tapped her comm badge and spoke quietly. "Josh to Medical. On no account should any survivors be beamed up to the ship unless you have my direct authorisation. Failing my authorisation then accept Commander Salid's or Lt Bird's. Any and all authorised survivor beam ups must be beamed straight into quarantine facilities and must be kept there until both the Senior Medical Officer present on the ship and the Senior Command Officer present on the ship agree they may be released. (Please note that any Command Staff who have been beamed into quarantine facilities with them are subject to the same rules.) Any emergency beam up calls of any nature must also be beamed straight to a quarantined facility, with no exceptions and are subject to the same release rules as everyone else." Josh finished her conversation with Sickbay in time to hear the FO speak once again. "Does everyone understand that order? Because you will be held accountable to prove that your actions were necessary should it happen." Josh simply nodded. Something from her past came back to her and she smiled. Her great, great, and several more greats after that, great grandfather had been a soldier during World War 1. Something that he had said had always come down through the family. He had served on the front line in France and had finally admitted, once home, that he could never shoot to kill, and every time he had shot at the enemy he had shot low, knowing that although his shot might take someone out, it was unlikely to be fatal. His shot had been enough to take someone away from the front, but simply not enough to kill them. Josh had always understood and approved of that thinking right up until she had gone back to Earth immediately after the Civil War. The carnage, the camps, the chaos and the death she had seen had, to be honest, hardened her a great deal more than she was happy with. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III mining Colony– Town Square- FO- Lt. Cmdr. Ahmed Ibn Salid-1210) The first thing that Ahmed noticed was that there were only a few hours remaining before nightfall, and as such, the shadows thrown by the buildings were already stretching across the town square towards them. The area was completely silent, except for an occasional gust of wind that caused something metallic to squeak. There was no sounds of life at all otherwise, and that was more disheartening than what he had thought that they might find. The windows of the buildings looked intact there was no sign of a struggle as there had been on the freighter and that caused Ahmed to wonder whether the inhabitants of the colony had tried to fight off whatever had happened here at all. It was apparent that there had been a struggle on the ship, and perhaps that very struggle is what had caused the level of carnage on the freighter. ~Such things were hard to gauge.~ "Okay, let get some readings, everyone stay close. Doctor Caskie, do we know where Doctor Lawson's residence is from here?" (reply All on Away team) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III mining Colony–Town Square- Ops- ENS (jg) Chance Raschen-1211) One of the first things that Chance noticed was that it had to have been late afternoon in the town square where the away team materialized at; because of the shadows thrown by the buildings were already stretching across the town square towards them. Chance looked at the signs on some of the buildings; Sheriff’s office, cantina, Doctor’s office, stores. The area was completely silent, except for an occasional squeak of something metallic swinging in the breeze. It was almost as if the settlement had become a ghost town because the windows of the buildings looked intact there was no sign of a struggle as there had been on the Sky. Raschen’s thoughts were forgotten when he heard "Okay, lets get some readings, everyone stay close. Doctor Caskie, do we know where Doctor Lawson's residence is from here?" Shaking his head from side to side, Chance thought ~Is there a doctor in the house~ and quietly chuckled. "Mister Raschen, any sign of Nanites nearby?" Looking at his tricorder, Chance wasn’t sure what to think about the readings. “Sir, there are no apparent nanites for nearly 20 klicks, but there is something…something strange.” (Replay Salid, any) “If I didn’t think that I knew better I would say that they were migrating and…” (Reply any) “I don’t know how to explain it. Indications show that they are nocturnal travelers.” (Reply Salid) “Here sir, take a look” Raschen said holding out the tricorder for the FO to see “Right now at 20 klicks there are nanites not doing anything, but if you look just 10 klicks from our position there is another ‘footprint’, if you will. It’s as if they shut down by day to recharge and then travel by night.” Looking at the commander Chance added “Sir, there is no immediate threat; I’d like to continue monitoring just to see what they do. Plus the local Sheriff’s office is right over there. It might be a good idea to check the logs and see if any light can be shed on what happened here.” (Reply Salid) "Everyone else, we follow Ro'Dal and the detail to the target house, keep your eyes open." (Reply Salid, any or all on team) (Posted by Charlie Raschen) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III mining Colony–Town Square- Sec.O Ensign Ro'Dal-1211.5) The FO had given them their pep talk just before they beamed down to the planet. They were not to use deadly force unless it was absolutely necessary or they'd be in big ka ka and Ro' was (as she'd thought), in charge of the security detail with Lt. Bird being second in command of the away team. When they arrived, they found themselves in a town square of sorts with buildings all around them. It was late afternoon, the sun was low and the shadows were long; there was a slight nip to the air. With a flick of her hand, Ro' sent her team fanning out to cover the others from all sides, all of them were wary and watchful, scanning the area constantly for any sign of danger. Ro' took up point and waited for the FO's orders as her eyes flicked around. The only sound she could hear was something squeaking whenever the wind blew fitfully. Apart from the place being devoid of life besides the away team, there were no clues to be seen as to what could have happened to the inhabitants. "Okay, let get some readings, everyone stay close. Doctor Caskie, do we know where Doctor Lawson's residence is from here?" Salid said. The Doctor shook her head. "There are no life readings in this settlement Sir. Dr Lawson's house should be the last house on that road to our right. Sir, I'm getting strange readings coming from that area, but I can't tie them down. However Sir, since it is not long until sunset I would suggest that we perhaps find somewhere to spend the night in safety. Ro'Dal couldn't help but wonder why they didn't just return to the ship and come back in the morning, it made more sense to her but it wasn't her job to question her superiors over something that trivial, still this place was beginning to give her the creeps already, which wasn't a bad thing. The creeps made her even more wary and careful. However she could make a suggestion about where they could spend the night, if indeed the must do so. "If we must stay here overnight, Sir. I recommend we use a building that is in this square." She looked around and saw an official looking stone building with steps leading up to it. It overlooked the complete square from a higher vantage point. They would see if anything approached well in advance of it arriving at their door, so to speak. Pointing at it she said, "that one over there, Sir." Doctor Caskie, do we know where Doctor Lawson's residence is from here?" As soon as Josh materialised she started taking readings. Checking her tricorder she shook her head. However Sir, since it is not long until sunset I would suggest that we perhaps find somewhere to spend the night in safety." "I'd prefer not to spend the night here if possible Doctor." Ahmed replied. "It's possible that the colonists may have taken shelter inside the mine complex from whatever happened here. We'll head there after we've searched Doctor Lawson's domicile for any clues." "Mister Ro'Dal. Our immediate objective is the Residence of Doctor Abigail Lawson. According to Doctor Caskie it is the last home on this road to our right, put together a detail and take the vanguard, Doctor Caskie is getting some odd readings from that area so be wary." Ahmed said pointing in the direction that Josh had indicated. (reply Ro'Dal) "Mister Raschen, any sign of Nanites nearby?" (reply Raschen room for more) "Everyone else, we follow Ro'Dal and the detail to the target house, keep your eyes open." Looking at his tricorder, Chance wasn’t sure what to think about the readings. “Sir, there are no apparent nanites for nearly 20 klicks, but there is something…something strange.” "Could you define something strange?" Ahmed asked the operations officer. “If I didn’t think that I knew better I would say that they were migrating and…” "And?" Ahmed queried. “I don’t know how to explain it. Indications show that they are nocturnal travelers.” "I see," Ahmed replied a little hesitantly, "and what makes you think that exactly?" “Here sir, take a look” Raschen said holding out the tricorder to the First Officer “Right now at 20 klicks there are nanites not doing anything, but if you look just 10 klicks from our position there is another ‘footprint’, if you will. It’s as if they shut down by day to recharge and then travel by night.” Looking at the commander Chance added “Sir, there is no immediate threat; I’d like to continue monitoring just to see what they do. "Mister Raschen, you and Mister Hezan see what you can recover from the sheriff's logs, if anything. I want you two back at the Lawson residence with plenty of time to spare before nightfall. Am I understood? (Reply Raschen) Ahmed turned his attention to the other members of the away team, "Everyone else, we follow Ro'Dal and the detail to the target house, keep your eyes open." xx (Davros III Mining Colony– Town Square- Sec.O Ensign Ro'Dal -1218) With a smile and a nod, a relieved Ro'Dal acknowledged the FO's wish to /not /spend the night planet side. ~Good thinking.~ She thought and when she overheard what the new officer, Mr. Raschen had to say about the nanites being nocturnal in nature, she was almost praying that they wouldn't have to stay there overnight. As far as she was concerned it was inadvisable to do so. Looking at the commander Raschen added “Sir, there is no immediate threat; I’d like to continue monitoring just to see what they do. Plus the local Sheriff’s office is right over there. It might be a good idea to check the logs and see if any light can be shed on what happened here.” Ahmed looked at Ro'Dal who exchanged eye contact with him, her face impassive. "Mister Raschen, you and Mister Hezan see what you can recover from the sheriff's logs, if anything. I want you two back at the Lawson residence with plenty of time to spare before nightfall. Am I understood? ~Yes, I don't want to risk my people because you're to dumb to come in out of the dark!~ Ro' thought, eying the man speculatively. (Reply Raschen) Ahmed turned his attention to the other members of the away team, "Everyone else, we follow Ro'Dal and the detail to the target house, keep your eyes open." "Form up. Arrow!" Ro' growled and her team formed a short arrow head pattern several paces in front of the away team with Ro' slightly ahead of the other three. With a curt nod she gestured for them to move out, rifles at the ready as they peered around them, their heads moving side to side, constantly scanning the area with a look behind every now and then to make sure nothing was approaching from there. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony– Town Square- FO- Lt. Cmdr. Ahmed Ibn Salid-1223) The trip to the Lawson residence was uneventful, although eerie. A town of this size should be bustling with activity even at this hour of the day, and Ahmed found it disquieting to not see a single living soul anywhere around. The building was square in shape, with a manicured lawn and flower beds displaying exotic planets, probably something local. The structure was reinforced, a reminder that there were no weather control satellites to keep the worst of mother nature at bay as there was on Earth. On the roof were high yield solar collectors, designed to power the house and heat water for day-to-day use. As with the rest of the town, there was no sign of a struggle here, and despite the growing feeling of dread, Ahmed still held out hope that the colonists had perhaps taken shelter in the mines and been spared any semblance of the horror that had overtaken the Sky of Tomorrow. He looked at his people, pressed against the buildings on either side of the street, with his security officers ahead of them. Ro'Dal glanced back at him as if asking for permission to enter the building and Ahmed replied with a single nod. The Takaran security officer made hand signals to her remaining three security personnel and the four of them moved swiftly and efficiently into the building. There was a crash and a sound of shattering glass as one of the security officers kicked in a door to gain access to the building and Ahmed and the others waited to see if there would be trouble. (reply Ro'Dal, Raschen, Any) (posted by Daniel Greene) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Davros III Mining Colony– Town Square- Sec.O Ensign Ro'Dal -1224) It was still as creepy as ever and Ro' thought the sooner they completed their business there and left, the happier she'd be. The building and grounds were immaculate, if it hadn't been for the eerie silence, Ro' would have expected someone to walk out of the house to do ask them what they wanted. The Away team members were pressed against the buildings on either side of the street, while Ro'Dal's team scouted the vicinity. When they were sure it was all clear, the Takaran officer looked back at the First Officer, silently asking his permission to enter the building and was rewarded with a single nod. The Takaran security officer made hand signals to her remaining three security personnel and the four of them moved swiftly and efficiently into the building. Ro'Dal found that the door was locked, so without any qualms she smashed her foot against the door with all her strength and sent it slamming inwards to smash against the wall inside with an almighty crash and the sound of shattering glass. Swiftly she moved like a panther, crouching to make herself a smaller target without thinking, every move she made was instinctive from the training she'd received over the years since she'd left the cult when she was thirteen. Pressing against the walls the security detail quickly secured the area and once they knew it was safe, Ro' returned to the main entrance to signal to the Away team that they could come in. Once they were all inside, Ro'Dal had one of her people stand guard at the entrance while the others accompanied the team on their inspection and investigation inside the house. (reply Away team) (posted by Sal) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Vulcan - Shuttle Facility - Lieutenant T'Larah Sullivan - 1235) It only took T'Larah less then an hour to finish up all her affairs on Vulcan. She was able to make it to the Shuttle Facility ten minutes before the shuttle was due to depart. ~I wonder why they just can't beam me up, it would be more efficient.~ Arriving at the appointed shuttle, in her uniform with it's mustard colored collar, she slung a small case with her personal belongings over her left shoulder, and in her right hand balancing her she carried an animal crate with Norman wistfully napping She found the pilot just before the scheduled take off. "Excuse me, pilot." T'Larah said announcing her presence and trying to call his attention. A fresh faced, young Bolian Ensign turned around in his burgundy collared uniform, and even though he towered over T'Larah by a good five inches, his demeanor showed he was intimidated being spoken to by a superior. ~He must be straight out of the academy, he's still a little jittery.~ "Yes, Sir." said the Bolian, stiffening visibly. "My orders, bring me to this shuttle, for transportation to a USS Brisbane, which I assume is to take me to my assignment the USS Rosenante. Why am I not being taken aboard via transporter? Transporters are standard equipment on board all Starfleet vessels, and would be much more of an efficient use of our time." she said blandly. The Bolian nearly grinned. ~ What an ice queen, these Vulcan dames are all the same.~ "Sir, that would be because the Brisbane's transporters, to include cargo transporters, but not emergency transporters, were severely damaged in the battle for sector 001. On the Chief Engineer's recommendation the Captain has ordered that they not be used unless there is and emergency, or until it has been verified that it is perfectly safe for sentient use." he said, like he had rehearsed it. "I was unaware, thank you Ensign, when can we get underway?" she asked. "Estimated time of departure is in ten minutes." he said already turning his attention to his pre flights. T'Larah began to move her things to the passenger compartment. She placed her personal belongings in an empty cargo bin and took in her surroundings. There were a few other passengers. Perhaps they were on shore leave, a few of them looked athletic, perhaps they were climbing some of Vulcan's many cliff faces for sport. T'Larah wasn't sure, but payed it no further attention. She chose a seat away from the rest of the passengers and placed Norman's crate in the seat next to her, and secured it to the seat with the safety harness. T'Larah put her index finger in one of the holes between the wire grid in the front and made a soothing noise. Norman rubbed the side of his face against her finger and began to purr. This brought quizzical looks from the other passengers. They had never seen a Vulcan with a cat, and surely had never seen a Vulcan showing affection for an animal in public before. T'Larah ignored their looks and readied for the short trip to the waiting vessel. "OK, everyone fasten your safety harnesses and we will take off shortly." he said in a calm and even tone. A few moments of beeps and bleeps could be heard from the shuttle's cockpit, then the announcement came. "Clearance given, take off in five, four three, two, one, lift off!" he called over his shoulder as the tiny vessel shuddered and overcame Vulcan's considerable gravitational pull. (Reply none) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Brisbane - Deck 6 - Corridor - Lt T'Larah Sullivan - 1303) T'Larah and the rest of the passengers disembarked the shuttle. "Would you like me to get your luggage, sir?" the young Bolian asked. ~Is this some sort of attempt to impress me or be 'macho'?~ the Vulcan woman asked herself. Deciding to assume he wasn't and that he was trying to clamor on to some illogical bit of protocol that was unnecessary for a Lieutenant, she answered his question. "No Ensign, I can manage adequately." she said a little too sternly, and re slung all her gear. The group was given quarters for the trip to the USS Rosenante, their new assignment. T'Larah, being the only officer was given directions to deck 5, the junior officer's quarters. A short trip on the lift and a walk down the corridor and she was there. The door was already surprisingly keyed to her com badge, and it opened for her immediately. The door slid to one side revealing a smallish room, but larger and more modern then what T'Larah had gotten used to living in the past several months. Norman immediately recognized Starfleet standard interior design and started to whine and protest to be let out. He knew that the familiar decor meant replicators and that meant what ever food he could convince her to produce could be his. No more hunting for food, the days of sitting around and waiting for his food have finally returned. She let him out and he made a cat line to the replicator and placed his order. "MEROW!" He sounded looking back and forth between T'Larah and the replicator. T'Larah quickly scanned the selections of foods suitable for pets, and made a choice for him. "Computer, feline supplement number thirty-two. Tuna and liver." she ordered. A affirmation beep was heard followed by the tinkling shimmer of the replication process. This sound seemed to have an effect on Norman. In an effort to be closer to the food the gray cat stood on his hind legs and pawed at the panel that housed the machine's inner guts. The small dish was brought down to the floor and Norman didn't even wait for T'Larah to remove her hand before he started devouring the contents of the dish. T'Larah secured the rest of her gear and went to report to the bridge.
