This wasn't surprising. Both Tactical and Security were trained to observe and report on everything that was going on around them. Other specialists like Medical, Science and Engineering were really only trained to observe things in their own field of operations and sometime missed things not related to their speciality. As Mike continued to update her on what he had been able to find out about the missing away team she was glad at least that he looked her straight in the eyes and Josh managed to keep her own face composed and her emotions under control as he told her about Sullivan, Weaver and Nayati. Just after he had finished his report and she had dismissed him, Mike turned back. "Oh Commander, I just remembered one other detail." Josh looked up from her padd and setting it to record again, nodded at him. "Go ahead Mr Rosenbauer." "It was something that one of the Hunters said to me. He said, to remind you of what the Hunter's did for us there. That they seek an alliance with us and that while they need much, they have much to offer in return." Josh nodded. ~Interesting, the second offer today. The alliance doesn't seem as rock steady as Jiyhala seems to think it is.~ "Thank you Ensign, I will indeed include that in my report to the Captain. "He then went to recover his dead. But not before he said that he grieves that we can not retrieve our own fallen. He indicated that we should discuss it with the Kobali. There was nothing else. After that we regrouped and transported back to the Rose. I sent St. jean to Guard the Ambassador in Sickbay." Josh's eyebrows rose at that comment. "The Kobali, not the Hur'q. Interesting." Josh glanced up at him one last time. "Thank you for posting a guard on the Ambassador, I'll see her when I report to Sickbay myself." She sighed, "Just as soon as I've reported all of this to the Captain." Her face softened and she smiled. "Thanks for your help Mike, your dismissed now." Josh then spent the next fifteen minutes putting everything she had been told into order on the padd so that not only would the Captain have her verbal report but a transcript of everything that the people she had interviewed had said. Once that was done she made her way back to the Bridge and sat down beside the Captain in her usual chair. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hur'q Hive Ship- Command Chamber- Grand Imperator- S'Kanon- Day 3- 1810) Nu'chei had returned from the raid and had made his way to report the success or failure of the attack to S'Kanon. The Grand Imperator looked down upon his chief soldier with a sense of pride. The Sub commander was kneeling as was required, his sword still glistened with the sweet smell of blood taken by force from his enemies. He kept his eyes downcast as he should and after S'Kanon had made him wait long enough to satisfy him, he finally acknowledged the Sub commander. "Rise Nu'chei and report." he said "I brought for you Right Hand of the Queen, a taste of the conquest I have wrought in the name of the Queen. Blood from the most hated ones." Nu'chei raised the weapon upwards slowly so as not to be perceived as a threat. Even this slow movement brought the immediate attentions of the Grand Imperator's personal Guard. The Imperator clicked his mandibles together in irritation at their perception of danger to him. He was more than capable of destroying the Sub commander himself if the need arose. S'Kanon unfurled his antennae and carefully sampled the chemical signatures of the blood found on the blade. "And did you accomplish the will of the Queen?" he asked, a flood of inquisitive pheromones filling the chamber. "Of course, I destroyed the Sky Spirit Chief and three of the Star Fleet officers personally." he responded. "And tell me of those here on your blade." S'Kanon demanded. "The red is Human you have tasted that before, the blue is Andorian..." he said. "And this other, here?" S'Kanon demanded indicating the green ichors. "The green I believe is called Vulcan." The Imperator clicked his mandibles together in glee. "You have done well, Sub commander. I am most pleased and the colony shall know of your favor." The Imperator, leaned forward slightly and sprayed a fine mist of Pheromones over the carapace of the Sub commander's body. This scent would indicate that he was much in favor of the Queen at current and would make it difficult for anyone to deny him most requests. He would be well tended and a flock of workers would tend to his needs over the course of the next several days. He would eat well, and would be allowed to partake in activities normally reserved for only the highest ranking members of the colony. The effect would last for a few days. It was an excellent reward and one normally reserved for extraordinary service to the colony. "We will watch now as the factions among the Alliance against us collapse. The Sky Spirit Chief was strong, but there are factions within his species that will make them less able to stand against us." "The Kobali's habit of stealing the dead of other species will prevent them from working with the new arrivals and forming an alliance there. The hunters will fracture from their dependence upon the Nechani now that they have been allowed to taste combat. This will place the Nechani and the new federation at odds. You will see the Nechani lose the control of their alliance, as everyone tries to figure out why we have struck as we have. Our agents will spread the rumors that we attacked because of Ji'yala's insolent behavior, this will make them think twice about standing against us. Soon we will clear this space and then we will spread to other ships. To create a new colony." he explained. (reply Nu'chei iyw) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Sickbay, Combat Nurse E’Mpak, 1813) E’Mpak looked at the young doctor working across from her and smiled to her self. He was one of those young highly motivated doctors who unfortunately thought that they knew everything. ~Just because you have just graduated does not mean that you're god~ She watched as the doctor applied the auto sutures to the patient’s vein. ~No you need more then that or it will leak~ As she watched a tiny stream of blood shot out and narrowly missed the doctor. ~Told you~ He heard the doctor mutter as he re-sutured the vein. E’Mpak looked at the horribly wounded female crewwoman who was on the bio-bed in front of her. Even to E’Mpak’s surprise she was still live thought barely. Having cuts, broken bones which covered most of her body and they had been fighting to keep her alive since the crewwoman had arrived in sickbay. “Laser scalpel?” E’Mpak handed the doctor what he asked for as he finished. When he had finished he handed back the laser scalpel and stepped back. “Right I’ll go and write up the notes. You go and heal the rest of the cuts by the time I get back.” She looked at him and smiled sweetly. “Yes Doctor.” ~You short change a patient again and I’ll rip out your throat you arrogant little human~ She looked back at the long wound running across the crewwoman’s abdomen. “Okay let’s get you all cleaned up.” She muttered to her self as she picked up the dermal regenerator and began healing the wounds. (reply any) (posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Sickbay, CMO, Lt. Aleesa Wyler - Day 3 - 1818) Aleesa stood observing the surgery through the sterilization field as Doctor Reynolds busily worked to repair the extensive damage to Chance's internal organs. The Security Chief had apparently been stabbed several times by one of the Hur'q. with of all things a sword. He had suffered serious trauma to several of his abdominal organs and his left lung and was in critical but stable condition. Aleesa, although the CMO of the Rosenante was not the most skilled surgeon aboard the ship. She could have been in there insisting on performing the Surgery, but since Doctor Reynolds was the most skilled, she stood instead observing as he and his surgical team patched and repaired the Lieutenant's innards. She knew that the surgery was intensive and was going to be a long one. She also knew that she couldn't stand here, torturing herself for the fact that she allowed the Away team to go over to the bastion without a representative member from the medical department. If she had been there, or at least some doctor other than Caskie had been there, maybe they could have saved some of the people who had been killed in the attack. Of course, Caskie was an excellent doctor, but she had most likely have been forced to handle the command aspects of the mission rather than the medical ones. No one, except maybe Caskie, would have expected her to handle both responsibilities. Wyler sighed as she turned away from the surgery and moved back into the main bay. It was a very depressing fact that they didn't have many casualties to deal with. There were some minor injuries, but with the exception of Raschen, almost everyone else had been killed and their bodies claimed by the Hur'q. She made her way across the bay, nodding to a security officer that was having some splinters of stone removed from his face by one of the nurses. That was the general extent of the injuries that she was seeing, although the critical nature of Raschen's injuries seemed to be the exception and not the rule. Her feet brought her to the guarded door of Ambassador Morgan. The woman had been beamed aboard in an unconscious state. A quick battery of tests had shown that it was the result of a series of shockwaves that had overloaded her brain's tolerance of pain. She was mostly unhurt, although she was suffering from a light concussion, probably caused by the close impact of several Hur'q weapons. The woman had regained consciousness quickly, once they had stabilized her neural patterns and given her some drugs to combat the cranial swelling. She was a feisty one, and seemed ill at ease in the confines of the private sickbay room. Alee nodded at the security officer guarding the door, Eva St- Jean, and stepped into the Ambassador's private room. Anna was sitting up, reviewing the ship's library for events that had taken place within the federation since her vessel had been declared missing. It was a sobering experience, and Aleesa realized that the woman had not yet reached the portion of their history where the Civil war had spanned. The Ambassador looked up at her as she entered the room and slid the monitor away from her after pausing the data feed. "Ambassador. How are you feeling?" The CMO asked. "Better, I still have a little bit of a headache though." she complained. "I can help with that." Aleesa replied and produced an air hypo from her pocket. It already contained a mild pain reliever. She often carried it in her lab coat for her own migraines. She adjusted the hypo, slightly and gently pressed it against the Ambassador's neck, releasing the drug into her blood stream via the skin. "There, that should take affect soon." Aleesa commented. "thank you. When will I be free to return to the ship?" she asked. "You mean the Oracle's Tears?" Aleesa asked, then continued as the Ambassador nodded, "Well that's hard to say really. We're still waiting on a series of lab results on some of the tests we're running. We aren't clear on the long term effects of Hur'q weaponry, so I thought it best to be thorough rather than sorry. Once those results are back, I'll authorize you fro release. Then if the Captain or FO tell me it's alright, you can return to the Nechani ship then." Anna seemed to stiffen at the mention of needing approval to return to the Nechani ship. The CMO attributed it to conditioning, although she had to wonder if there might be something else that made the Ambassador cringe at the thought. "I'll keep you apprised, I promise, " Aleesa added. "If you get hungry or need anything, just use the button on the monitor to summon a nurse. In the meantime, feel free to continue to catch up on the last two decades of federation history if you'd like. There's also some entertainment vids and some music or books available if you prefer." "Thanks," Anna said. Aleesa nodded. "Anytime. I'll check back in on you shortly." There was a nod from the patient then Aleesa, stepped out of the room and back into the bay. Once the door had closed she turned to St. Jean. "Ensign, I don't trust her. I think she's hiding something, stay sharp." Eva nodded. "Yes ma'am. I can guarantee that I'm watching her like a hawk." "Good. If you need anything, let me or one of the nurses know. That includes food or a restroom break." Eva nodded. "Thanks, Doc. Will do... Oh, Doctor, I do have on question." "What's that?" Aleesa replied. "I'd like to know how Lieutenant Raschen is doing." "That makes two of us, Ensign." Aleesa replied with a sigh. "I promise to let you know as soon as we're certain." "Thank you sir." Aleesa smiled at the woman then with a nod, turned and headed for her office to write a report for the Command staff. (reply Any) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Sickbay, Combat Nurse E’Mpak, 1819*)   E’Mpak looked at the screen showing the crewwoman’s vital signs.  They had finished the surgery and she was waiting for the crewwoman to recover from the anaesthetic.   She hopped that the antibiotics and pain killers that the Doctor had prescribed would do the trick. The last thing she needed was her patient waking up in pain.   She watched as her patient began to wake up. The patient and began to scream. E’Mpak placed her hands gently on her shoulder so that she would not fall off the bio-bed as she glanced over at her PADD.   “Heidi. It is okay. You are in sickbay. You are coming round from the anaesthetic. Open your eyes Heidi.”   Heidi began to speak to her rapidly in a foreign language.    “Heidi speak English, I can not under stand you.”   There was a slight pause as E’Mpak watched Heidi closely.   “Sorry.”   E’Mpak gave her a smile.   “Do not worry Heidi. Are you in any pain?”   Heidi nodded   “and woozy.”   E’Mpak nodded.   “Don’t worry it is just a side effect of the antithetic. I will go and get you some analgesia.”   E’Mpak moved off towards the controlled drugs to find something that would help her.   (reply any) (posted by Robbie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge - FO Lt Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 3- 1820) As Josh sat down in her chair she handed the padd she was carrying to the Captain. "My report of what happened on the Bastion sir. She kept her voice pitched low knowing that over the normal hum of the Bridge only the Captain would be able to hear her. Watching as he scanned through it she carried on. "I still have two people left to speak to Sir. Ensign Fowler, who may, or may not be able to shed some light on what happened to Lt Nayati and Ambassador Morgan. I plan to speak to her when I report to Sickbay." (Reply Salid) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Bridge - AcTAC/TRADOC, Lt. Jono Janeway - 1820.5*) "Good to have you back on the bridge Mister Janeway. Here's a quick situational brief. The ship on the main viewer belongs to a species called the Hur'q, since our arrival here earlier today we've been assaulted by them twice. The first time they caught us just after we arrived here, our shields were down and they boarded us. in conjunction, they attacked this ship with three small raiding craft. Two of which we destroyed the other retreated." Ahmed paused, "The second assault was just a few minutes ago. Mister Smith detected an indication that the Hur'q had launched one or more cloaked raiders from their mothership. They beamed an assault team to the bastion where we were involved with negotiations with new potential allies. They utilized a transport inhibitor to keep us from retrieving our personnel." "At this time, I have Rosenbauer's team on the Bastion looking to locate those missing. At present, Lieutenants Sullivan, Raschen, Nayati and Ensign Weaver are unaccounted for, and I fear the worst. At this point I want you to put a freeze on their command codes until it can be determined what their disposition is. Additionally consider all current tactical information could possible be compromised at this point. See what you can do to coordinate with engineering on modulating our shield frequencies. I also want you to run security force fields at all time until further notice and have someone adjust the field modulation on the SIF so that it can act as a transporter inhibitor for everyone but us." Jono nodded, "I'll get straight onto it Captain." He turned to a console behind him to let the captain speak with Fiacie, at least she had got the answer to her question... Weaver was missing. As were Sullivan and Rashen, explaining the sudden need for Janeway to be the Acting Chief of Tactical. He began by sending out a ship wide notice that the internal forcefields around the ship would be activated for the duration of the mission, once he activated them he keyed in several codes which would stop anyone bar himself the Captain or First Officer disabling them. He moved onto his next task and put a permenent freeze on the afor mentioned officers security and tactical codes. He was positive that if pushed T'Larah or even Rashen would know a backdoor way into the system from remote resouces to re-activate there codes he deleted them entirley from the system and placed them on a non-wireless padd for safe keeping for their return. As for any other tactical information the missing crewmembers may have had on them, Jono was sure he could eliminate that threat by simply resetting any codes on the current system. It wasnt a big job, just one that took a little too much time for Jono's liking. He placed the ships code reset program on standby and send a message to Ahmed's approval, as soon as the Captain gave it the systems codes and frequencies would take one hour to reset completly. It wouldnt have any affect on people working at the time. He nodded to the Captain and moved away from the Tactical station and walked towards the turbolift, "Engineering" he said. He tapped his comm. badge as the lift began moving. "Janeway to Engineering. I'm heading down to you now, to discuss some tactical changes which we will need to make ASAP." (Reply whoever is in Engineering at that point) (Posted by Jono) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Main Engineering - AcTAC/TRADOC, Lt. Jono Janeway - 1821) Jono walked into Main Engineering looking for the ACEO while also heading towards the tactical console which controlled the internal shields also. "Over here, mister Janeway." He said with a wave, "Now what can we do for you?" Jono diverted his attention to the Lieutenant for a moment. But continued moving towards the console and nodded to the man hopeing he would follow. "Sorry to be so abrupt, Lieutenant. But in these circumstances I'm juggling a couple of jobs at the same time" He said as he logged into the console. He quickly checked the status of the internal shielding and activated bio-sign deactivation. This meant that any visitors to the ship would need a starfleet escort from the Rosenante to move freely throughout the ship. Invaders would be trapped almost. He turned to the Lieutenant, "I need someone to adjust the field modulation of the SIF so it can act as a Transport Inhibitor for all others bar personnel from this ship. Myself not being atall from this background, wouldnt know if thats a big job or not. It just needs to happen. What would be an ETA on that happening?" (Reply Morrow) "Excellent, If you could inform me once its complete. That would be great" Jono turned on his heels and sped back towards the turbolift. He tapped his comm. badge once again and said, "Janeway to Security Offices, I want someone shifted in to watch over the tactical console in Engineering 24/7, Understood?" "Yes, Sir. I'll get right on it." "Janeway out." Jono knew that if someone wanted to invade the ship, that had T'Larahs insight into the security systems of the ship, they would know that the only full-prove way of deactivating the internal shielding would be on the Bridge or Main Engineering. (Reply Morrow, any, none) (Posted by Jono) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Bridge, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 3 - 1822) The more Ahmed watched, the more he began to think that the Hur'q were not going to follow through on their attack on the Bastion meeting with an attack upon the ship. This was a mixed blessing, really. If he stood down too early and they attacked, they'd be caught unprepared yet again. But if they didn't and Ahmed kept the crew on high alert needlessly, morale and efficiency cy would start to suffer. ~Damn it. I wish you'd make up your mind. ~ he thought angrily to the Hur'q ship. ~Either attack us or don't. Just decide.~ The door to the observation lounge slid open and Rosenbauer exited. He headed from the bridge and reached the turbolift about the time that Commander Caskie stepped onto the bridge. He watched her cross the room, she looked as if she carried the weight of the entire federation on her shoulders. Her eyes were slightly puffy, as if she had shed a few tears. It was a healthy thing to do in extreme times of stress, and Ahmed envied her the ability to do so. As captain, he couldn't allow himself such a luxury. She took her seat and handed him a PADD. "My report of what happened on the Bastion sir." She said. Ahmed took the offered PADD, flipped through the pages of information as he replied, "Thank you commander." "I still have two people left to speak to Sir. Ensign Fowler, who may, or may not be able to shed some light on what happened to Lt Nayati and Ambassador Morgan. I plan to speak to her when I report to Sickbay." He nodded, as he returned the PADD to her. "Any news, even unwelcome news, is better than no news at all commander. Your report is concise and to the point. I appreciate your swiftness in assembling it." he replied. "It's my opinion that we need to let the crew stand down from red alert. I was thinking we could retain a Yellow alert status, and allow the crew some time to rest and reenergize. What's your opinion of that?" he asked her. (reply Caskie) "Very well, make it happen. Call Lieutenant Xim to the Bridge early to take command. After you've reported to sickbay and had that tended to and talked to The Ambassador and checked on Raschen's status, meet me in the Ready room to discuss our situation. We need to come up with a plan of action, so that we're not stumbling around in the dark." (reply Caskie) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Main Engineering - ACEO Lt. Alimi Morrow - Day 3- 1822) Alimi followed Janeway to the Security Console in Main Engineering and waited for the man to tell him what was happening. "Sorry to be so abrupt, Lieutenant. But in these circumstances I'm juggling a couple of jobs at the same time" He said as he logged into the console. "Understandable," Alimi replied, "considering everything." Janeway turned to face him, "I need someone to adjust the field modulation of the SIF so it can act as a Transport Inhibitor for all others bar personnel from this ship. Myself not being at all from this background, wouldn't know if that's a big job or not. It just needs to happen. What would be an ETA on that happening?" "That's a sizable task, I assure you Lieutenant. I'm under orders from the Captain to put my engineering crew on rest rotation, most have been up two or three days solid since the incident in the Nebula. With the staff I have available right now, and assigning engineers as they come back on staff, I should have that done in maybe 16 hours. I could cut the time by a third but there's a much higher risk of error or accident. I'd prefer not to do that." Alimi replied. "Excellent, If you could inform me once its complete. That would be great" janeway replied. "I certainly will, sir." the ACEO said with a nod. He was relieved that he wasn't going to have to rouse all the engineers that he just allowed to stand down. She did however spot Janeway sitting at Tactical and smiled at him. "Nice to see you up and about again Lieutenant. Stand down to Yellow Alert." Turning back to face the screen she wondered if he knew yet how long he might have to fill that job. (Reply Janeway iyw) =^= Lieutenant Xim to the Bridge =^= Once he arrived she briefed him and handed the conn over to him. "I'll be in Sickbay if you need me." The new Pediatrics Bay being the most obvious. ~Wonder how she managed that! All I got was the brush off every time I requested it.~ Taking a deep, calming breath she crossed to the CMO's office and tapped on the door. "Lt Wyler, can you spare a moment? I need an update on Lt Raschen, to speak to Ambassador Morgan if that's possible and get my wounds taken care of." (Reply Wyler) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Main Engineering - ACEO Lt. Alimi Morrow - Day 3- 1828) Alimi had just passed off the job to an Engineer's mate when he spotted janeway entering the Bay. He had never met the man, but he'd seen the basics of his Dossier. "Over here, mister Janeway." He said with a wave, "Now what can we do for you?" (reply Jono) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, CMO's office, Lt. Aleesa Wyler - Day 3 - 1835) Alee was looking at the status reports. Nurse E'Mpak and Doctor Conner were treating Crewman Heidi Brigholdt for serious injuries. Connor had the correct certifications, but Alee wondered if the young doctor had the right attitude. She had figured that E'Mpak would let her know if he were incompetent. And although the Klingon Combat Nurse was not trained by Starfleet medical, Aleesa had come to realize that her skills were by far superior to some of those possess by some of her other nurses. There was a chime at her door, and Alee didn't even look up from the charts as she called out "enter." The door slid open and someone entered. Aleesa glanced up to see that it was the First Officer and former CMO. She put the PADD down on the desk and stood up. "Lt Wyler, can you spare a moment? I need an update on Lt Raschen, to speak to Ambassador Morgan if that's possible and get my wounds taken care of." "Certainly commander." she replied, "Let's step out into the bay and I'll give you the latest on Raschen while we get those fragments removed." (reply Caskie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Sickbay, Lt. Aleesa Wyler - Day 3 - 1838) Alee had grabbed a blank PADD, downloaded Raschen's telemetry and condition. He was still in surgery, so the data was ever-changing. She directed Commander Caskie to a Biobed and indicated that she should be seated. "Here's the latest and dynamic data on Lieutenant Raschen. He suffered significant damage to several of his major organs. His Liver, Left lung and intestinal tract were all seriously damaged. He was suffering from septic shock when we got him aboard. I assigned Doctor Reynolds to him right away. They're in surgical Bay 3." While Caskie looked over the data, Alee used her medical tricorder to scan the side of the First Officer's face. There were a few scrapes, but only two pieces of embedded debris. They were deep though, and at least one of them had stopped at the cheek bone. Alee pulled on a pair of surgical gloves and grabbed a hand-held sterilizer field. She activated the device and ran it over the injured area. Once it had been sterilized, she gently applied a topical cream that would act as a local anesthetic. A laser scalpel and set of retractors worked wonders in removing the two shards of stone. It didn't even take very long. "Okay, that part is done, you can talk now if you want." she said as she began the dermal regeneration cycle. (reply Caskie Room for more) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - FO - Lt Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 3 - 1839) "Certainly commander." she replied, "Let's step out into the bay and I'll give you the latest on Raschen while we get those fragments removed." "Here's the latest and dynamic data on Lieutenant Raschen. He suffered significant damage to several of his major organs. His Liver, Left lung and intestinal tract were all seriously damaged. He was suffering from septic shock when we got him aboard. I assigned Doctor Reynolds to him right away. They're in surgical Bay 3." Josh looked over the latest data regarding Lt Raschen whilst the CMO was working her over. "Okay, that part is done, you can talk now if you want." the CMO said as she began the dermal regeneration cycle. Nodding Josh turned to the CMO. "Thank you. I'll take this padd with me when I report back to the Captain and it hopefully will give him a running update on Lt Raschen." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - FO - Lt Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 3 - 1840*) The CMO then handed Josh a mirror. "All done. I hope you approve." Josh glanced quickly in the mirror noting the neat job that had been done to the cuts on her face and grinning nodded. "Well, I don't think I'll be scaring any horses in the near future. Nice job. I couldn't possibly book in to get the bags under my eyes done anytime soon?" Dr Wyler's eyes may well have crinkled at that comment but all she did was report on Ambassador Morgan. "As for the Ambassador, she suffered a minor concussion, nothing worse than that. I've told her that we're running a series of tests on her. That way she's not inclined to try to leave. Mike sent a guard to make sure she stays put; Ensign St-Jean. I've got her in Long-Term Care room # 6" Josh nodded. "Yes he mentioned that when I debriefed him. I guess I'll go talk to her now. And you were right. She does not leave Sickbay until either the Captain or I tell you otherwise and certainly not before the Captain has spoken to her. She may see herself as Nechani now, but until the Captain says otherwise she is still a serving member of Starfleet and as such is subject to our rules and regulations. If she complains tell her that and have all her complaints routed through me." Josh took a deep breath and stepped of the biobed. "Oh well, might as well get it over with. LT6 you said?" Watching the CMO nod Josh made her way towards the room that the Ambassador had been given. Smiling and nodding to St Jean as she arrived there she opened the door and walked into the room. Crossing to the bed she smiled at Anna. "Good evening. I'm glad to see that you are not too seriously hurt. Are you comfortable? Is there anything else you need? (Reply Anna) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Sickbay, Lt. She had been hoping that it was the CMO, coming to tell her that she could return to the tears. Instead she was disappointed to find that it was Commander Caskie. Crossing to the bed she smiled at Anna. "Good evening. I'm glad to see that you are not too seriously hurt. Are you comfortable? Is there anything else you need?" "Comfortable enough I suppose," Ann replied. "It's kinda strange being back aboard a Federation Starship again. I'm a little uncomfortable I guess." (reply Caskie) "It's hard to explain really. You put all the bad memories behind you. Grow comfortable in a place and then have all those bad memories come back to you." Anna regarded the woman in front of her. "I guess you know what I mean. I suspect that you've had your share of bad memories resurface when you saw the Epiphany again after all these years." (reply Caskie) Anna nodded. "Eight years." She replied simply. (reply Caskie) "Donald survived Eight years after we were trapped here. He never gave up hope. He always thought he'd see you again. I'm sorry that he was wrong." (reply Caskie) "There's something else too." she continued. The motioned towards the small locker at the far side of the room. It contained the harmless personal effects and clothing that she had when she had arrived. "If you'll get the small black velvet bag from my robe pocket." (reply Caskie) Once Jennifer had retrieved the bag, Anna continued. "Open it. What's inside belongs to you." She watched as the first officer opened the bag and dropped the gold wedding band into the palm of her hand. "He made me promise that if I ever got out, to give it to you." She said. "I promised him I would. He was never unfaithful to you. Not like some of the others on the ship. I should know..." her voice trailed off. There was a long pause before she continued, "he was a friend, Jennifer. He only loved you though. Right up to the end." (reply Caskie) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- Sky Spirit Ship Ina'hayeh - Counselor Chaska's Quarters - 30/CCOUNS Lt. (jg) Jon Nayati - 2024) "You are not a prisoner, so long as Namid's people will listen to my commands," said Chaska. "You may return to your ship when you are ready. I would meet with your chief, but I must be careful. Ji'yala may take offense at such a meeting and Namid may use the opportunity of my absence to consolidate his power. Already I am standing on a precipice." Jon was relieved to hear that he was not a prisoner. He also sympathized with the beautiful woman's plight. "I will do what is in my power to protect you from harm. But I should check in with my ship and see what I can arrange." Chaska turned away from the window and moved to a handcrafted table. She opened a drawer there, and removed his commbadge. She took it to him and held it out. Jon accepted the commbadge gratefully and smiled. "Let this be the start of trust between your people and mine. I shall check in with our Captain directly." "I brought you here because I was confused and thought that somehow you could have been allies of the Hur'q," explained Chaska. "I have caused you pain and held you against your will. For that I apologize and ask for your understanding if not your forgiveness. But you're being here has served a double purpose. You have now seen for yourself how my position as tribal Chief is weak. You know of Namid's intentions. You may well have to kill him before these days of mistrust come to an end." She continued, "Let us see what we can arrange to meet with your chief. You should leave while you can. I will make certain that you can transport off this ship without worry. Give me five minutes to ensure that before you go." "I accept your apology. I know you acted in haste, not knowing what else to do. But I don't know how much I will be permitted to interfere with any power struggle that goes on here," cautioned Jon. "Until I explain the situation to our Chief, I can make few promises. However, I do not believe our Captain will allow you to be hurt or killed if we can prevent it. Perhaps Namid can also be persuaded to meet with our Captain along with you. Your tribe does not need to be fractured by internal conflict. That only serves to weaken you all and help the Hur'q." Chaska drew her eyes away from him, then taking a deep breath, she turned and exited her quarters. (Reply None) (Posted by Jim McCrary) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Sky Spirit Ship Ina'hayeh - Counselor Chaska's Quarters -30/CCOUNS lt. (jg) J 3on Nayati – 2027) Once Counselor Chaska had departed, Jon returned the commbadge to his stinking ichor soaked shirt. Once the badge was pined on, Jon touched the concealed sensor to place the device on scramble mode. Another touch switched the badge notification signal from audio to vibrate. With those adjustment accomplished, Jon felt sure that his sudden departure from the Ina'hayeh would not arouse the potentially hostile attention of the two braves had been guarding him. In scramble mode, his commbadge signal could not be deciphered by either the Hur'q or the Ina'hayeh, for that matter. Having accomplished all this, Jon taped his commbadge to activate its personal locator function. Keyed in to his individual life signs, the commbadge would notify the Rose that Jon was still alive and give his location for transporter purposes. (Reply Rose, Any) There was an uncomfortably long lag time between when Jon had first tapped out and the Rose finally responded. In that seemingly long eternity of time, Jon feared that he was either outside of the Rose's transporter range, or that the Ina'hayeh's defensive screens had also blocked his com-signal. (Reply Rose, Any) However, at long last, his commbadge vibrated in a silent pattern that Jon easily recognized as the Rose's. Jon's wrist chronometer read 2030. Hopefully, Chaska had lived up to her last promise. If she hadn't, his was going to be a really short beam out. "Rose," Jon whispered quietly, "30 Nayati here. I need immediate transport from this location. (Reply Rose, Any) Seconds later, Jon was happy to discover that Sky Spirit Counselor still had some clot within her tribe. Jon's body was enveloped in the familiar swirl of the Rose's transporter lights. Then there was the not unpleasant tingling in every molecule of Jon's body. Suddenly he blinked out of existence – only to rematerialized a second later on the transporter pad of the Rose. (Reply any in Transporter Room 1) (Posted by Jim McCrary) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge- Lt. Xim - Day 3- 2028) Xim sat in the center chair. He had come on shift early to cover for Sullivan since she was missing and presumed dead, and though he had not had much interaction with her before, he acutely missed the clear and logical Vulcan woman. He had always thought her an extraordinarily efficient officer, the sort that made certain that the paperwork was done correctly, and would investigate the slightest discrepancy in the duty log. now that she was gone, Xim wondered who would replace her, and how much more difficult his duties would become when he was forced to do the extra work that Sullivan had always taken upon herself to do. The Beutelgeusian had been called to duty early by the First Officer. The majority of the Alpha shift personnel had been stretched to their limits and the CO and FO had agreed that it was time to allow them to stand down to yellow alert. Xim had been briefed on the situation and he did not like it one little bit. So when things were quiet and uneventful he was thankful, but when the alarm on the mission operations console sounded, it made his jagged teeth grind in concern. "What is it?" he asked the Second Shift operations officer, Ensign Roma. "I'm picking up a commbadge for Lieutenant Nayati. The personal locator function has been activated." Roma replied. "Interesting, there was nothing on the sensors before that?" Xim asked. "No sir." "Contact the transporter room and have them perform a transporter lock. Then have them run a detailed biometric scan of the wearer and compare that to Lieutenant Nayati's transporter log files. I want to be certain we are not getting an imposter or seeing a clever attempt to get something past our shields." "Yes sir." While Roma went to work, Xim turned to look out at the main view screen. "Is there any way that we can figure out where the signal is originating?" he asked. "I can plot it on the main viewer." "Please do." Xim responded. A moment later a wire frame outline of the ships in the bone yard appeared on the main viewer and a pulsing red dot appeared a moment later aboard on of the ships. "Do we know which ship that is?" Xim asked. "No sir." "The wearer matches Lieutenant Nayati's profile." Roma reported. "Ping his commbadge, but do not send any data. If it is he, then he will know that we are receiving him. One ping, then cut the signal, I don't want to endanger him if his commbadge is not silenced for some reason." "Yes, sir." A few moments passed, then suddenly, Roma announced. we're receiving a signal. It's encrypted. "Decrypt it and patch it through." Xim replied. =^=Rose,=^= Jon whispered quietly, =^=3O Nayati here. I need immediate transport from this location.=^= Xim spoke to Roma. "Do not respond. have him transported aboard immediately. Hold him in the pattern buffer until security arrives to escort him to Sickbay. Send a team there to meet him." Roma nodded and replied, "Yes sir." The operations officer sent the data to the transporter room, before replying. "They have him in the buffer, security has been dispatched." "Very good, Mister Roma. Note it in the log." "Aye Sir" (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - transporter Room 1 -SO Bailey Simpson- Day 3- 2035) Bailey stepped into the transporter room with his partner Ensign Mozat. They two security officers took up a position flanking the transporter platform and drew their Phasers. They were under strict orders to be very cautious. It could not be ascertained without a complete Bioscan in Medical exactly what may have happened to the Third Officer, and so they were to treat him as a potential enemy until they knew otherwise. Bailey tapped his commbadge. "Simpson to Janeway, Mozat and Myself are in transporter room one, awaiting the arrival of Lieutenant Nayati. We're to escort him to sickbay. Thought you should know sir." (reply Janeway) "understood, sir, Simpson out" Bailey nodded to Mozat, who turned to the Transporter operator. "Okay, we're ready now." A moment later, Lieutenant Nayati materialized. Simpson took a step forward. "Welcome aboard sir. Because of our security condition, I'm required to escort you under arms to Sickbay pending a complete medical evaluation. If you'd kindly accompany me sir." (reply Nayati) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Transporter Room 1 – 30/CCOUNS Lt. (jg) Jon Nayati - 2036) When he materialized back on the Rose, Jon was not surprised to find that he was greeted with armed security forces. He had been MIA for several hours and had urgently requested immediate transport. That and the state of heightened readiness the Rose had been under since it had been transported into the Harvester would have necessitated such response on Captain Salid's part. Jon smiled and raised both of his arms over his head. "Everybody, relax, it's really me." Jon said politely . Jon recognized both the security people waiting for him. One man was named Bailey Simpson and the other's last name was Mozart. For the life of him, Jon didn't know the first name of security officer Mozart. Security officer Simpson approached Jon first. "Welcome aboard sir. Because of our security condition, I'm required to escort you under arms to Sickbay pending a complete medical evaluation. If you'd kindly accompany me, Sir." "I'll be glad to Yeoman Simpson, "Jon replied jovially. "I would have reported tact ops for delectation of duty if someone from security hadn't been here when I beamed back." Mozar responded. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay -SO Bailey Simpson- Day 3- 2045) They had taken their time getting to sickbay. The internal security force fields were all activated, which meant a slight delay as people moved throughout the ship. Nayati's commbadge had been deactivated, so it fell to Simpson and Mozat to deactivate the fields as they traveled. When they finally arrived, the doors slid back to reveal a relatively sedate sickbay. Being the type that liked to know what was happening in the bay, the CMO, Lieutenant Wyler exited her office and approached them. "Thank you gentlemen, I'll take custody from here." She said. "Sorry ma'am but we have orders. We're to maintain a vigilance until you've cleared the lieutenant." Wyler frowned. "Fine, " She said, "But try to stay out from under foot, alright?" "Yes Ma'am" Wyler turned to Nayati. "welcome back aboard Lieutenant. (reply Nayati, Jono) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Sickbay, CMO- Lt. Aleesa Wyler - Day 3 - 2046) Nayati had complied with her request and Aleesa wasted no time in beginning her battery of tests. She started with the basics, attaching a neural mapper to Nayati's temple so that she could take a scan of his brain waves. She hadn't gotten very far in her tests when Lieutenant Janeway arrived and dismissed the two security officers. He had the presence of mind to not interfere with her work, and for that Alee was grateful. She picked up her Medical tricorder and activated the biobed. She was scanning the Counselor for every possible problem. No viral bomb, genetic defect or hidden neural commands were going to get past her. The complete examination took a half-hour. But is was the most thorough battery of scans that she could have possible performed short of actually taking invasive tissue samples and running through a genetic sterilizer. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Sickbay - AcTAC/TRADOC, Lt. Jono Janeway - 2047) "Welcome back aboard Lieutenant. If you'd please take a seat on Biobed nine, we can get this over with quickly and get you back to duty or rest as the case may be." Jono heard this as he stepped into the sickbay, he held his hand over his phaser and made sure the rifle on his back was easy to reach for encase anything went downhill. He walked forward to the group and said "Simpson, Mozat. If you could wait outside, I'll call for you if you're needed." (Reply either) "I know your orders, now you have new ones. Outside, now." Jono said a little frustrated about being back in Sickbay this soon after leaving. The two security officers nodded and walked around the Lieutenant and took positions guarding the sickbay doors. Jono nodded to the CMO and Nayati to continue and just stepped back to stand agaisnt the wall. He stayed there not wanting to get out of the way until the CMO was finished. (Reply all mentioned) (Posted by Jono) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Sickbay – 30/CCOUNS Lt. (jg) Jon Nayati – 2047) Jon was glad to finally reach sickbay. Jon was waiting with SO's Simpson and Mozat when CMO Aleesa Wyler stepped out her office. Approaching Jon and his escorts, CMO Wyler spoke directly his 'guards'. "Thank you gentlemen, I'll take custody from here." "Sorry ma'am ", SO Simpson replied, "but we have orders. We're to maintain vigilance until you've cleared the lieutenant." Jon read the sudden annoyance in CMO Wyler's aura as she frowned. "Fine," the displeased CMO said. "But try to stay out from under foot, all right?" " Yes Ma'am," SO Simpson responded politely. After that Jon had a little more room. Lt. Wyler turned to Nayati. "Welcome back aboard Lieutenant. If you'd please take a seat on Biobed nine, we can get this over with quickly and get you back to duty or rest as the case may be." " Glad to be back, Sir. I'd prefer to sleep, but I will need to speak Captain Salid first." (Reply CMO Wyler, Jono Janeway, IYW) "The only biological contaminates that you'll find, Sir, is the Hur'q goop still on my current uniform." "Also check my medical history before you get too excited about my part of my liver and lower half of my left lung. Both half of these organs were replaced with benign symbiots on Necron Red II to sustain my life due to some grievous injures I had suffered there in the past. They are not genetic bombs or the like. These symbiots are part of my past Starfleet medical record." Jon said. (Reply CMO Wyler, IYW) (Posted by Jim McCrary) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - transporter Room 1 -SO Bailey Simpson- Day 3- 2048) They had stepped well aside so as not to interfere with the CMO's job. Everything seemed as it should but Bailey had seen too many Alien-esque horror stories to feel comfortable. When Lieutenant Janeway entered he took a look around and approached the two security men. "Simpson, Mozat. If you could wait outside, I'll call for you if you're needed." "But sir, we have our orders from the watch officer," Mozar replied. "I know your orders, now you have new ones. Outside, now." Janeway replied with a tone that told them that the discussion was over. The two security officers looked at each other but turned and headed out of the room to guard the main entry to sickbay. (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Sickbay, CMO- Lt. "he is who he says he is" she said loud enough for Janeway to hear her. "I've checked everything. Cell Structure, Brain Patterns, Bio-Energy Patterns, Viral and Bacteriological filters and I even checked his DNA and RNA. He's not only Jon Nayati, but he's as healthy as a horse." She concluded. She turned to face janeway. "I've made my determination, so I'm releasing him to you. In my assessment, there is no reason that he shouldn't return to duty." The CMO turned back to Jon then. "Welcome home Lieutenant Nayati. I'm glad to see you back aboard safe and sound." She smiled at them, then collected up her equipment. "I'll leave you two gentlemen to talk." (reply Nayati, janeway) Daniel Greene ===================================================================== (USS Epiphany – Deck 5 Corridor – Security Yeoman Elvis Fowler – 0645) Fowler was on edge - the Eppy reminded him of a crypt he had seen in some old horror movies. Elvis Fowler's attention was diverted when Crewmen Kowalchek asked a question. "Lt. Morrow, how about we have Ensign V'Shera and maybe another security officer to come with us just in case we get into trouble? This is a derelict ship and it probably has a lot of pitfalls. I don't want to get this far just to fall through a weak spot in the floor." "We are at your command, Sir," V'Shera piped up instantly and then looked at Lt. Morrow for permission. "Fowler, you can be with us." "Aye, Aye Ensign" Elvis replied. Ensign V'Shera's call had caused him to jump - he grinned sheepishly inside his EVA suit. "Ensign, I'll take point" Elvis said, moving out in the process. (reply: Ensign V'Shera, any) (Posted by: Bill W.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Epiphany – Deck 8, Corridor - ATAC Ensign (jg) V'Shera – 0700) V'Shera had taken the point since her Vulcan senses, greater strength and superior reflexes would have given the away team an edge should something dangerous and unforeseen have unexpectedly happened. She was like the canery that ancient earth miners had used to detect the odorless presence methane gas where they worked. So V'Shera had been quite surprised when Yeoman Fuller had taken the point just she asked for a status up dates from everyone. Fowler's taking point had been no big deal, as the party's immediate environment was danger free. Now at the head of the engineering away team, Yeoman Fowler answered first. =^=I'm ok Ensign. A bit nervous.=^= Elvis replied, chuckling over his suit mike. The tone Fowler's voice and nervous laughter seemed to indicate some feelings of deeper apprehension on the human's part. V'Shera remembered that humans, among other species, often used humor to counter feelings of dread. Graveyard humor, it was often called. Though a Vulcan, V'Shera could identify with Fowler's unease. Parts of the Epiphany's interior seemed to have been physically removed. On the deck, bulkheads and overhead there were the noticeable scorings associated with both phaser and Hur'q weapon fire. A real fire fight must have taken here nearly two decades ago, yet there were no bodies here at all. Throughout the whole the sojourn to the impulse reactors V'Shera had seen no dead bodies; human, Hur'q or otherwise. The absence of crew corpses lent an eerie, surreal feel to the Epiphany's cold, dark and airless interior. The words ghost ship again returned to haunt V'Shera's rather uneasy mind again. "Your point is well taken, yeoman". V'Shera replied, shuddering involuntarily as she spoke. After a minute or so the rest of the engineering away team had checked in. As everyone, and everything, seemed to be 'all well', V'Shera ordered the away team forward. "Everybody, keep your eyes open and your minds alert," V'Shera cautioned. "Fowler, you're the point now. We don't want any surprises back here, understood?" (Reply Fowler, any, IYW) Her last instructions acknowledge, the Rose away team continued toward inert impulse reactors. (Reply none, any) (Posted by Jim McCrary) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Epiphany- Impulse Reactor Control- The Prime- Day 4- 0800) The Prime pulsed in a slow series of flashes as he assimilated data that was returning to him from his senses. The reactor complex was very intricate and showed a high degree of engineering knowledge on the part of the group that had built the particular device. Their work was simplistic, but effective and The Prime wondered if that was a result of trial and error, or limited technological advancement. He had to constantly remind himself that the species that created this ship and the reactor were still bound to their corporeal shells, unlike his own people the B'zz'tz. They had real limitations, physiological ones, that had to be solved through technological means. The B'zz'tz however had no such limitations. They also had no understanding of what it had been like to have them. They had evolved into the pure energy beings so very long ago that their own origins has been forgotten well before the Prime had been. That was why he and his Subprimes had taken on the tasks of studying corporeal entities in an attempt to better understand the past of his own people. It had been a goldmine of scientific discovery, when they had discovered The Harvester so many centuries ago. They had learned so much in the time that they had been studying it and those trapped aboard it. Their observations had revolutionized the understanding of the corporeal nature of existence and had vaulted The Prime and the Subprimes into a level of respect and academic accolades that others would never achieve within their long existences. But after a few decades, The Prime had realized that they were only seeing some aspects of the Corporeal Life within the Harvester. He slowly came to understand that the cycles that he was witnessing were not natural ones, dictated by natural environmental pressures. They were instead forced actions caused by desperation as the resources that sustained the corporeal nature of the entities he observed became more dire. He realized then that his study results and observations had been skewed. He and his assistants had determined then to try to make contact with the Corporeals. They had shown themselves, they had attempted communication. And while the Corporeals seemed interested at first, they soon lost interest and refused to continue to attempt communication. For centuries they had tried to communicate with hundreds of different Corporeal subtypes. They had not been successful so far. They had returned to the Harvester on their regular study cycle. It was just a normal day, until the new vessel had arrived. They had never witnessed the arrival of a new vessel during their time here, they had always arrived after a new ship had appeared. So this opportunity was unique. They had detected and began studying new data, that could somehow aid them in their efforts. When they detected the energy signatures of a matter-energy conversion. The Prime had been excited by the prospect of studying these newly arrived Corporeals even more closely. No other Corporeals had undertaken the act of exploration so quickly after they had arrived, at least not as much as they knew. So B'zz'tz scientists, three of them, had moved to the wreckage of one of the ships to observe and attempt to make contact with the newest arrivals. While his two companions headed to the other locations for the separated teams, The Prime waited here, invisible observing the Corporeals as they undertook some sort of task. When their task of energy transfer was complete, and several of the vessels systems sprang to life, The Prime decided it was time to reveal himself and see how these newer beings would react to him. He drifted forward through the radiation shielding and into the main Control chamber. As he did so, he shifted his physical energy fields to allow himself to become visible. "Greetings Corporeal ones." he flashed in a series of controlled flashes of light. "I am the prime." Jono Janeway - 0800.5*) Jono was overseeing what was happening throughout the Epiphany from the point that the away team had set up on the ship when first beamed over. Transport inhibitors were set up and there were several portable consoles around to communicate and analyse data as well as two sets of weaponary to protect the crew. There were two security officers to the entrance of the room, which looked like he could have been used for storage at one point. Jono walked over to them and stoof with them for a few moments, overlooking the corridor. The ship was silent. He didnt like silent, it created an unease about the entire mission. He hoped there wouldnt be an attack, he didnt think the Rose crew could take many more losses purley for the morale of the crew. His thoughts moved onto Caskie, he wondered how she was coping with the loss of several senior officers on her first command mission. He knew that in her profession she would have lost people before, but he was almost sure that she would be feeling allot different now to those times. He remembered the first time he lost crew while in command, luckily for him he had a strong crew around him which build up and kept him busy, his mind kept of off what happened. T'Kron - 0805) Once the impulse reactors were up and running and various systems began lighting up, T'Kron picked up his tools and packed them in his toolkit. The lights flickered unsteadily but stayed on. Still in their EVA suits, he and the other Engineers looked over the readings on the consoles. T'Kron nodded thoughtfully to himself while assessing the systems, but still felt unsatisfied. The derelict needed far too much work to ever make it spaceworthy. More than half the hull and a good portion of its systems were simply missing, scavenged no doubt for survival by the other species here. The engineer in him disliked leaving the ship only half built or half wrecked, however one wished to look at it. His fingers irrationally itched and he found himself starting to reach for the auto destruct files in an effort to allow the ship to die. ~Illogical. The ship is not alive. It is nonsentient, only metal and some systems that have yet to be scavenged by someone.~ T'Kron pushed away such ludicrous thoughts of the Epiphany as a dying creature and pulled his hand instead to one of the consoles to bring up the reactor controls. Through his communit in his suit, T'Kron heard someone mutter, "What the h***?" He recognized Fowler's voice and glanced over toward him. He asked, "What is the matter, Yeoman?" Although T'Kron could not see his face, Yeoman Fowler's body had the attitude of looking up, his arms hanging limply, though he still held onto a tricorder. The light in the room took on an odd quality and T'Kron looked up as well and froze in utter astonishment. "Fascinating," he whispered in abject surprise. The swirling cloudy ball of energy flashed in short bursts. He grabbed at his nearby tricorder blindly, keeping watchful eyes on the green energy ball. His fingers fumbling in his EVA gloves, T'Kron pointed his own tricorder at the glowing ball of light and began scanning. He then recovered himself enough to say, "T'Kron to Lt. Morrow." (Reply Alimi Morrow) "We have company in the Impulse Reactor Control room," said T'Kron. "It is a colorful green ball of swirling energy that emits flashes of light. I do not know if it is sentient." There was very little to report, although he was pleased that Xim had taken the initiative to order a complete stores assessment. that data would help Ahmed in planning their course of action throughout their stay in the Harvester. Commander Caskie had also been busy, it seemed. She had spoken with the Ambassador, Checked on Lieutenant Raschen and written a few reports of her own for his review. Ahmed was smiling as he thought about the way that she was taking to the position. he only hoped that her medical sensibilities fro compassion could be tempered with the necessity to make hard decisions that would cost people's lives. He knew from experience that it was a difficult thing, he knew from experience, ordering people that he knew and worked with to their possible death. He remembered every one of them, clearly without fail. It was the sharper edge of his photographic memory. he could relate to Jennifer's feelings at losing someone under her command, let alone her first command. Ahmed still remembered the engineer's aboard the Nimitz that he lost while he was acting CEO. He was cursed to never forget them. He took a sip of his Turkish coffee as he read his reports. There was a lot of information to be absorbed and now with several of his senior crew either incapacitated, dead or missing. Sullivan was gone, Weaver was gone, the first missing and presumed dead, the latter confirmed dead. Raschen was in critical, although now stable condition in Sickbay. Nayati had been missing but had returned to the ship late last night, so there was a beacon of hope in the darkness. ~Thank goodness for Janeway and Caskie~ He thought, at least he had two very strong qualified officers to help him take up the slack. With Jackson and Smith working hard to maintain Energy rationing as Ahmed had ordered, the Captain figured that they'd have three years of energy at their current rate of consumption. Less once they started the repair project for the Navigational Deflector and Control Room. Fiacie was working on the Hur'q technology and Ahmed had high hopes that she could decipher it's mysteries well enough to give them an edge against the aggressive insectoids. Martinovich was working on the Impulse Reactors, albeit laboriously slow. Before it was over, he'd probably have to replace his Chief Engineer, simply because she was too focused on specific problems and not the overall situation that the ship was in. There'd be time to consider that decision at a later time. He heard the sound of the chime at the Tactical Station. With Janeway aboard the Epiphany, Ensign Wong was manning the station. "Captain we are being hailed." he reported. "It's the Hunter ship" "Do we have visual?" Salid asked. "Yes sir." "Put them on screen." The view screen shifted from the view of the bone Yard to the bridge of the alien vessel. Standing clearly where he could be seen, the Hunter's Captain spoke. =^=This is Detron Dash of the Hunter Ship Ne'q. I wish to speak to who ever is in charge of your ship.=^= "Greeting, First Hunter Dash." Ahmed replied. ~Thank Allah for Caskie's thorough report.~ "I am Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid. I am in command aboard the Rosenante. What can I do for you this morning?" (reply Dash) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Epiphany - Impulse Reactor Control – ATAC Ensign V'Shera – 0807) Fowler had done an adequate job of leading the away team to the Epiphany's impulse reactors without incidence. Once inside the reactor room, Kowalchek and ACEO T'kron began working on restoring impulse power. Security yeoman Fowler had stayed at the outer perimeter of the control room and V'Shera had opted to stay closer to T'Kron and Kowalchek. There was no point in getting the away team here only to have everyone injured or killed once they arrived and had accomplished their mission. As the engineers worked on the reactors, V'Shera constantly shifted her attention between them, Fowler and her tricorder. Between one of her changes of attention, several surprising things happened at once. Suddenly, the impulse reactors powered up, and the room was filled with faint illumination. V"Shera also felt the return of gravity. Her tricorder registered the unexpected presence of radiation that did not originate from the Epiphany's reactors. At the same time she heard Fowler say, =^=What the H***?=^= Looking up from her tricorder, V'Shera saw a series of bright lights flashing above them all. Suspended in midair was a swirling ball of green colored energy. The ball was approximately 3 feet in diameter. It was emitting a series of bursts of flashing light. It was about ten feet from the deck. ~Is this another undocumented incorporeal life form or the ghost of someone who died here?~ V'Shera set her tricorder to record any radiation, swirling colors and the bursts of light. She hoped to find out if it was a life form or some strange type of electrical energy such as ball lightning. Over her suit communit, V'Shera heard T'Kron report to Lt. Morrow. =^=T'Kron to Lt. Alimi had been both surprised and pleased that all the equipment remained. As far as he could tell, the systems were intact and they should function as they were designed to do. He and Zorn were making good time, the ship seemed to be aiding them. In some nearly imperceptible way. Or at least that's how it seemed, he hoped that the other members of the team were having such an easy time of it as well. The answer quickly made itself known, as the lights in deflector control came on and monitors sprang to life. A moment later, gravity was restored as well. Detron understood that on a level that probably no other species here had ever done before and that alone had cause his sleepless night. Ahmed ordered, " Move to Tactical II, Mister Torres." He tapped his commbadge. "Salid to Caskie, report to the bridge, bring a security detail and an engineer" (reply Caskie) "Do you think it's dangerous sir?" Torres asked. "The Captain shook his head. It was apparent from their actions that they were intent on restoring this space vessel to some semblance of functionality. What made this particular group work in such a manner, when all the others had simply torn out the parts that they had desired. He could detect the energy patterns that they were emitting, and while they were artificially generated, unlike those emitted by the B'zz'tz themselves, there was a strange familiarity to them that The Prime found reassuring. He adjusted his own frequency of emissions into the subspace realm and signaled to shi Subprimes. "I have revealed myself to the Corporeals at my locations. They seem to be intrigued and are undertaking some actions that may indicate that they wish to repair this vessel. As this is unlikely, I require the Subprime to attend me while we attempt to communication. Perhaps there is some difference among this particular classification of Corporeals that indicates a higher quality of problem solving cognitive abilities." He knew that of the two Subprimes one was a expert on the Physiological and Psychological aspects of the various Corporeals that they had encountered here in the harvester. That Subprime would understand that it's presence was required and would make their way to the proximity where the Prime waited, observing the Corporeals. Perhaps there is some difference among this particular classification of Corporeals that indicates a higher quality of problem solving cognitive abilities." The particular Sub Prime that knew that it was wanted simply realigned it's molecular structure and appeared beside the Prime, He took a nanosecond or two to review what the newcomers were doing and flashed his humour to the Prime. 'Interesting but hardly conclusive, they could be simply being following biolological imperatives like the Hur'q. (reply First Subprime) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Epiphany - Impulse Reactor Control - ACEO Lt. Alimi Morrow - Day 4- 0820) Alimi made the best time that he could. The EV Suits were anything but light under gravity conditions, and the ship was partially stripped by whatever scavengers that had picked over the Epiphany's carcass over the decades. When he arrived there was not one but two of these shimmering globes. The first, the Green one seemed to have been joined by a blue version of itself. Both were flashing lights and Alimi got the distinct impression that the two globes of swirling colors may well be communicating with each other. He keyed his communicator for connection to the local suits. "Fowler, V'Shera, T'Kron. Report." he called. (reply V'Shera, T'Kron, Fowler) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Epiphany - Impulse Reactor Control - ACEO Lt. Alimi Morrow - Day 4- 0825) After the officers in the Impulse Control Room had reported, Alimi decided that it was more likely that the globes were some sort of alien life from rather than some sort of bizarre phenomenon. He decided that he should let Janeway know right away. He activated the Communications system in his EV Suit and spoke, "Morrow to Janeway." (reply Janeway) "Lieutenant, we may have encountered some life forms in the portside Impulse reactor control Room. There are two balls of glowing energy here, We haven't tried to make contact, but it seems that they are likely a sentient life form rather than a natural phenomenon." (reply Janeway) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Epiphany - Impulse Reactor Control – ATAC Ensign (jg) V'Shera – 0826) V'Shera reported her findings about the mysterious green sphere to Lt. Morrow right away. "Sir, I've taken extensive tricorder readings on our unexpected visitor," V'Shera said. "Though it is green, it's energy and not an organic plant." Pointing at the still flashing sphere, V'Shera continued to elaborate further. "Though my tricorder can't determine any kind of language in these light bursts, I have reason to believe that these bursts might be some form of communication on this being's part. This incorporeal entity began emitting lights on its arrival; it has behaved in neither a hostile on tropic matter. The fact that this entity appeared here, has remained here and is still continued to emitting light bursts, seems to indicate curiosity and a deliberate intent to communicate on it 's part. One doesn't have to be an exopsychologist to see these behavioral markers of sentient, intelligence on our curious green visitor's part." (Reply Lt. Morrow, T'Kron, Fowler, any) "I've been trying to cross-reference the sphere's pattern bursts with any other form of light based communication. I've had no luck so far, in that endeavor. We've been cross talking about the entity since its arrival, but its response to us has been visual rather than electronic or auditory. Perhaps it can't 'hear' our EVA suits' com-channel communication? Likewise, the green sphere may lack the ability to communicate with us either with sound or electronics, even if it could understand our language? Which, I'm reasonably sure it can't." (Reply Lt. Morrow, T'Kron, Any) "Conversely," V'Shera continued, "we may not be able understand the sphere's language of lights either?" V'Shera let her voice trail off at the end that sentence. An idea of another way of communicating with the green energy sphere was forming in V'Shera's very busy mind. ~There was always telepathic communication. This particular situation seemed to fall within the guidelines concerning the use of telepathy to promote trans-species cross communication. But I will need command authorization to use telepathy to try communicating with it.~ (Reply Lt. Morrow, T'Kron. Fowler, any) Since the use telepathy was such a highly charged issue, V'Shera decided to abstain from mentioning it for the moment. (Reply None, any) (Posted by Jim McCrary) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Science Labs; Fiacie Personal Lab - AcCSO, Ens. Sam Fiacie - 0831) Sam yawned, she'd been up most of the night. Ensign Smith had given her the Hur'Q data on the transport inhibitor and then to receive the actual instrument and a Hur'Q resonator had kept her up all of the night. From the data she had been able to gather that the small gap in the transporter field that the team had used to get out of there was caused my a malfunctioning device, either because it was damaged in the fight or it was configured badly. She had decided as soon as she got her hands on one of the devices that it was more likely to be the latter, the device was covered in a chrome metal protecting the device as an 'outer' shell. Below the shell was a different type of metal which Sam figured was an inner shell, once she managed to open the device up she found some circuitry which was completly alien to her. This was what she had spent a good couple of hours dissecting, she had the inhibitor built down and completly in pieces, keeping an electronical log of how to put it back together and where everything goes as she had gone along. It was absaloutley intriguing to her, she had isolated the power source. A small black box which extremly advanced circuitry around it and an ice cold, black liquid inside. She sent a bio sample down to another science lab so she could continue working. She turned too the Hur'Q resonator weapon and pulled her hair back into a tight bun as it was beginning to become loose after the hours work. She picked the weapon up and unlocked what she thought was the safety device, she aimed the weapon at the wall to her left and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. Confused Sam placed the weapon back on the table. The weapon was heavy, almost seemed like it was too heavy to be just a weapon. It had a small screen at the top of the weapon which seemed to act like an aiming system, where the trigger was there was an extra two buttons, red and blue. Sam tapped the red one and the screen on top changed to that she would expect to see on a tri-corder or scanner. Tapping through the options on the screen she set became increasingly more interested in the weapons functionality. Next she tapped the red one and the felt the weapon power up, ~Hmm maybe that was the safety~ she lifted the weapon to fire it at the wall, she pulled the trigger. Nothing. Again confused she put the weapon down and looked at the screen, the screen was blank, as she moved around the table to get a better look she passed the nose of the weapon. As she did the screen lighted up with a target indicator. The weapon scanned her extremly quickly. She called in a science officer and asked him to stand next to the wall. She picked the weapon up and aimed it at the man, he looked at her with fear in his eyes. "Dont worry" She said. As soon as the weapon picked up a bio-sign the aiming indicator found the ideal place to fire at the science officer. She smiled, and put the weapon down powering it down. It looked like she had figured out how the Hur'Q weapons worked. "You can go" She said to the man, he exited the room quickly, but allowing another science officer in. Sam looked up and saw Ens. Hillar walk in with the results of the substance she had sent down for analysis. The Ensign was smiling slightly, "I take it you know what it is?" Sam said. He nodded, "You're gonna enjoy this," He said looking at the the tube of liquid. "H20" "H20? Water?" She said looking at the tube. "No, Seriously?" "Aye, Water kept at just above freezing point. The blackness seems to come from some metallic..." The ensign stopped as he noticed the black box. ".. Is this what it came in?" "Yes. I think I know what you're thinking, I concur. The blackness probably comes from being inside the box for an extended amount of time. Thank-you, Ensign. You've been allot of help." Sam said dismissin him. She was happy that had been clarified but even more confused now than she had been before knowing what the liquid was. She had hypothisised that the liquid was used as a form of energy for the inhibitor, but she was unsure how such a small amount of water could power a powerful device such as this. She put the tube down and put her hand on the table next to the pieces of the inhibitor. ~Erh~ She lifted her hand, it was wet. She had put her hand in a small pool of water, ~How'd that get there~ She had put a frozen small square bolt there earlier, it had dissapeared. ~No...~ She thought to herself. She began piecing the device back together getting more excited with every piece. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Deck 3 - Corridor - Science Officer - Ensign Andrew Maddox - 0903) Andrew had been up for over thirty-six hours by now. Fatigue had started taking over for himself, and Crewman Stevenson looked as if the waking hours were lagging her down as well. ~How can a simple feline elude capture for over 24 hours?~ he thought to himself. He kept his tricorder up despite the arm cramp that seemed to be developing. It's soft rhythmic hum was one of the sweetest lullabies that Andrew had ever heard. It began chirping, waking him from his standing slumber. "You got something?" Ashley asked. "It's just inside the range, wait, there seems to me a tracking signal near it and moving with it perfectly. The signal identifies it as a comm-badge?" he said not quite believing what the instrument was telling him. "Who's comm-badge is it?" Stevenson asked. "It says it is a house cat by name of Norman. That's got to be a mistake." Andrew said frustration creeping into his voice. "Well, what do we have to loose? If it is just a lost little kitty we can help..." she offered, "..what is the closest way to get to where it's at?" Andrew studied the readout as he cross referenced the ship's schematics, then he sighed, "Jefferies tubes." "Well lets get going Andrew, the sooner we are done the sooner we can go to bed." she said. The thought of sharing a bed with her had crossed his mind a few times, as he did so now he had to push the thought aside to continue the mission. A 100 meter walk brought them to the appropriate Jefferies tube hatch. A few key strokes and the door opened upwards with a soft hiss. "Here kitty, kitty." Ashley said sweetly calling to the animal. "meow" came a faint response. "It's coming right for us." Andrew said looking at the monitor. Soon a large gray fur-ball jumped up into Ashley's arms. She grunted as the large weight settled in. "The tricorder says that the Hur'q genetic material is under his claws." Andrew said. "Well lets get him to the lab so we can get a sample and get this guy fed." Ashley said with a smile. "Good work Ashley." he said smiling back. "You too, sir." she said. Once she had activated it, she deactivated it just as quick and then began to take a look at the shielding, putting each part through different rigorous tests. Figuring out the secret of the shielding, she felt would lead to how to deactivate the device without having the Hur'Q codes needed to actually deactivate it. The entire time, Hasiyl watched her for signs of discomfort or difficulty moving. This was a critical stage of the process. The observational time was used to determine if there were any joint or structural defects that had been generated as the reclamation process had moved forward. The priest was pleased to see that she seemed perfectly formed. Her joints seemed to be working properly. Her balance seemed normal, her hearing, hand-eye coordination and vision all seemed to be normal. This was a good sign that her body had not rejected the genetic resequencing and accelerated cellular recombination that had transformed her Body from that held in her previous life to that of a Kobali. Since the Kobali had no sexual pressure caused by the need to reproduce, there was no sense of shame or worry of nudity, as was present in so many other cultures. It was therefore also a test of the imprinting to see if the newly reclaimed showed undue signs of modesty. Saviya showed none, another indication that the process had gone well. "I am prepared." she said. "very good. Then follow me." Hasiyl replied, then turned and led her from the Reanimation chamber to the chamber of Elder Priests. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Cial - Grand Audience Chamber - Kobali Reclaimant - Saviya (T'Larah) - 0930) "Provost Qamda and Honored priests of Medicine. I, Hasiyl, present to you Saviya, A new Kobali for your inspection and acceptance." Hasiyl intoned as he stepped aside and indicated to her with a gesture. Saviya watched with marked curiosity as the assembled few reacted to her presence. They seemed remarkably pleased. Which to Saviya made little sense. For the needs of the many should out weigh the needs of the one. One new person to their species as a whole should make little difference, she failed to realize why she was so special. They regarded her for a moment, then one of the assembled smiled and spoke only asking a question. "Saviya, welcome, to your new family. We welcome you with open harms and loving hearts. Tell us if you will.. How do you feel?" asked the priest. Saviya regarded for a moment, "What does one judge such a response by when one doesn't have a past to judge it on?" she said answering their question with another. (Reply any Priest) "I sense no injury, and I seem to be in control of my facilities." she finally answered, but cryptically. (Reply Any) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Cial, Reclamation Chamber - Priest of Medicine Hasiyl, Priests & Provost Qamda- Day 4- 0935) When the doors to the chamber opened, all conversation within the hallowed walls stopped immediately. Qamda turned to regard Hasiyl as he walked into the room followed by Saviya. He walked with a sense of pride, and he very well should. This reclamation was the first that he had performed without being under the direct supervision of another of the priests. It was a moment when he would now be accepted as a full fledged Priest of medicine in his own right. The woman, Saviya, followed him into the chamber. She moved gracefully, with a sort of physical strength that was uncommon to the Kobali as a whole. Qamda attributed it to the abnormally dense musculature of the Vulcan species from which the basis of her Kobali body originated. "She should still possess the muscular memories of her prior life", one of the Priests commented to him, as if contemplating his thoughts. "She will be as fast and strong as she was before." he continued, "We have seen this before." Qamda nodded. He understood that muscle memory would be retained. That meant that if she had been a trained fighter before, that she would retain those instinctual muscular skills. That was one of the aspects that made her so potentially valuable to the Kobali. "provost Qamda and Honored priests of Medicine. I, Hasiyl, present to you Saviya, A new Kobali for your inspection and acceptance." Hasiyl intoned. He stepped aside and indicated the woman with a gesture. Qamda smiled. It seemed that the priests were duly impressed. "Saviya, welcome, to your new family. The priest smiled at her answer. ~It seems her superior intellect was salvaged by the process~ he thought, ~how fortunate.~ "The question" he replied, "Was not about your emotional state, Saviya. I was referring to your physical state of being." "I sense no injury, and I seem to be in control of my facilities." she finally answered, but cryptically. Qamda marveled at her grasp of the Kobali language. It was near perfect, and the provost realized that language was one of the more difficult engrams to work with. "I am pleased that you are well, Saviya. I am provost Qamda. I command this vessel and all on it. We have saved you from oblivion, do you understand what that means?" he asked her. We have found from centuries of experience that it is disruptive and dangerous to think of our prior lives, or to consider too strongly what we once were. There are mental reasons that this is not done." He paused for a moment. "We welcome you. And you will probably realize very quickly, that there are some aspects of your prior life that have carried over. These are usually higher order skills, come physical attributes, such as the color of your eyes, which is unusual for a Kobali. We ask only that you live this second life well and without regret, that you participate fully in Kobali life and society, as much as we can offer you here. You will find that you will make fast friends and relationships that you will cherish for all of your second life." "Oblivion is the state or quality of being forgotten, also synonymous with death, I understand that with out your interference that my life surely would have ended." she stated her understanding of the situation. Saviya did not completely agree with his statement, for some reason she was sure that there was something after death. She did not know how or why she had this belief, but she knew it was deep seated. She chose to remain silent in this. "We have but one rule that is immutable, we leave behind who we once were and embrace wholly our future and our life as Kobali. Like you all Kobali were once alive in a prior life. "There were attempts, before. But there were complications. The species to which you belonged prior, had some physiological difficulties that our science had never before encountered. You are the first successful reclamation." High Priest Norves replied. "If it is known what was my previous function in the society I left? Will it impact what job I am to perform for the Kobali." Qamda replied, " you will perform whatever function you wish within the confines of our society. If you wish to be an artist or a composer you may. You may also choose to be an engineer or a Soldier. This choice is up to you. We do not require that you continue to perform any function that you held in a prior life. We have seen however that new Kobali tend to migrate back to a field that they selected in a prior life. So it would not be unheard of or a surprise to find that you had selected to perform a similar function as you had prior." "I understand. I have no further questions. We all do. But rest assured that your past is not nearly as important as what you choose to do with your future. We have found that most species relish the opportunity to start anew. We only offer you that opportunity." High priest Norves spoke then. "Hasiyl, it is apparent that you have mastered the arts that we have been teaching you these many years. We welcome you to the ranks of the priests. Be welcomed." Qamda smiled and Hasiyl was a glow with pride. He had done very well and his expertise and skill had given them all hope. The provost addressed them both again. "Priest Hasiyl, please show Saviya to her domicile. She will like some rest and a chance to think I am certain. She is your responsibility Hasiyl. See to it that she received whatever she needs to help her acclimate to our way of life." "It shall be done Provost" Hasiyl replied, then turned to Saviya, "Please come with me." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Cial, Domiciles - Priest of Medicine Hasiyl- Day 4- 1000) Hasiyl led the way through the ship to the Domicile level. There were plenty of Kobali around and they all greeted Saviya with genuine enthusiasm. The reclamant's robes always gathered people's attention. He slid his palm over the door panel and the door to her assigned domicile slid upwards into the ceiling. He motioned for her to follow him inside. The room was pleasantly furnished. He hoped that it was to her liking. He turned and closed the door. "Your biometrics are already programmed into the computer, so you will be able to move about the ship freely. There are only a few places that are restricted to you, critical parts of the ship and private domiciles." he said. He walked across the room. "there is a library monitor, so that you can read up on Kobali culture, art and such. And there is also a food replicator and a clothing replicator as well." he said motioning to the various devices. "You need only use the communicator that you have around your right wrist to contact me, should you require anything. Just speak my name and the channel will route to me. It is best if you never remove them. They run off your bioenergy field. They run down quickly if they are removed from your wrist." (reply Saviya) He turned to leave. He stopped at the door. He turned back to face her. "You were a warrior I am told. And you died bravely. I am also told that there will be people that will miss you in your prior life." he said. (reply Sullivan) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Cial, Domiciles - Kobali Reclainant - Saviya (T'Larah) -1002) Leaving the Reclamation chambers allowed Saviya to see more of the ship she was now to call home. The passageways were constructed of a crimson hued metal that was brushed to a dull sheen. The entryways were round open and inviting. Very few of the portals were closed and a few that were opened if Saviya strayed to close to their sensors. The remaining few buzzed softly and muttered "access denied". The Priest of Medicine named Hasiyl lead Saviya through the level of the vessel she was on that contained the living arrangements. The garb that Saviya was wearing or a new face seemed to cause a reaction in those that they encountered to their final destination. "Welcome to the Kobali, sister." "Greetings good to have you with us." These and other similar greetings were said by everyone that they passed by. It seems here as in other cultures a new arrival was a blessed event. Hasiyl activated a door which opened, the door sliding into the ceiling. As the door opened it revealed a personal quarters filled with warm colors and soft inviting furniture. "Your biometrics are already programmed into the computer, so you will be able to move about the ship freely. There are only a few places that are restricted to you, critical parts of the ship and private domiciles." Hasiyl said as he closed the door behind them. He walked across the room, and motioned to the various objects, "There is a library monitor, so that you can read up on Kobali culture, art and such. And there is also a food replicator and a clothing replicator as well." ~Everything I will need to learn of my new life.~ "You need only use the communicator that you have around your right wrist to contact me, should you require anything. Just speak my name and the channel will route to me. It is best if you never remove them. They run off your bio-energy field. They run down quickly if they are removed from your wrist." he explained. "I understand, I seem to have a lot to do before next we meet. I have to choose a career path, where I am going to contribute to Kobali society." Saviya said. He turned to leave. He stopped at the door. He turned back to face her. "You were a warrior I am told. And you died bravely. I am also told that there will be people that will miss you in your prior life." he said. "Thank you, for... everything." she said before the priest left the room. Saviya was now alone with her thoughts. Her thoughts strayed to her former life, she wondered who would be missing her. She knew that some cultures and species had mates to procreate. Did she leave a mate and family behind? The curiosity of the situation burned her, but she pushed her burning desire for knowledge asside for a time. She felt a pang of hunger, it seems being reclaimed gives one an appetite. She walked over to the food dispenser and as there was only one thing on the menu, the replicator produced a nearly colorless paste a small bowl as a container, and a small utensil that looked like a broad rounded shovel. She took the gruel and sat down next to the library computer and got to work learning about her new culture.
