She was almost sure that it was on the tip of his tongue to say something smart but if he was thinking about it, he certainly managed to reigned it in. “I just wanted to let you know so you don’t get blindsided in case they want to see my supervisor as well..." Josh nodded. "Understood Mr Raschen. Thank you for the heads up." Just as Josh thought the conversation over he began talking again. “When I’m on leave ma’am, I moonlight as a captain for test crews for Impetuous Industries R&D division. The ship that I suspect the Dock Master is going to be asking me about is a small Raven-class vessel. She is a test platform for some new fangled engine design. I’m expected to take the ship from Geneva Station to Vulcan as fast as possible.” Josh regarded him cooly. She would barely only admit it to herself but she actually liked Raschen. She liked his somewhat 'devil may care, take it or leave it' attitude. As FO she knew exactly how annoying it probably was to most people in the Fleet, but he reminded her of a younger version of herself before she had become bogged down in the paperwork and minutiae of StarFleet Medical and then the Fleet itself. That being said, as a Lt and a department head, he had a choice to make and would probably have to make it very soon. She simply looked at him quizzically. "And?" She was taken aback when he simply knelt down beside her and began speaking in a quiet and serious tone, one so quiet that only she and the Captain could hear him and so serious that if she had not been sitting there she would not have believed who she was having the conversation with. “Ma’am, I have already plotted out my course to Vulcan, by way of Earth. If you’ll let me, I can help get your husband home.” Josh was taken aback for a minute. Not because he knew about Donald, dear lord if there was someone on the Rose that had not heard about him Josh was sure that they were hiding deep in the bowels of the ship never to surface for even a minute. Josh knew that various rumours had travelled round the ship at warp speed regarding her and her husband. Thankfully everyone had the courtesy to treat her refusal to discuss it with the respect she required until now. She felt rather than saw the Captain stiffen beside her. He knew how much she guarded her private life and understood that she could be less than diplomatic when someone questioned her regarding it. Looking directly at the Lt she stared at him for a moment, but could find no other motive than a willingness to help her. Finally she simply nodded her head. "That is an extremely kind gesture Lt and I appreciate it and thank you for it. The Captain has already granted me leave so if you would be so kind as to tell me when and where to report I would like to take you up on your offer. Thank you." (Reply Raschen) Turning back to the Captain she smiled. "If you have no further need of me perhaps I should go organise everything Sir." (Reply Salid) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Bridge- CSec- Lieutenant (jg) Chance Raschen- 1626) Finally she simply nodded her head. "That is an extremely kind gesture lieutenant and I appreciate it and thank you for it. The Captain has already granted me leave so if you would be so kind as to tell me when and where to report I would like to take you up on your offer. Thank you." “The Tranquility is in landing bay number 3552. We’ll depart tomorrow afternoon, no earlier than 1300 but not before you are settled in.” Then Chance just simply walked away returning to the security console. After a couple of moments, Raschen turned toward the center of the bridge and asked “Captain; is there gonna be a staff meeting before we scatter?” (Reply Salid) “Roger that sir.” Raschen said before sending out messages to the Tranquility crew. (Reply Salid) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - sickbay- ACMO-Ensign (jg) Sam Lopez - Day 1 - 1627) "Well let's hope so, at least to some sort of degree."Sam just looked at the CMO with acknowledgment and then she made an announcement. "Okay everybody gather around." Alee said. "Looks like the FO and the CO have granted everybody rotating leave." "I just got off the line with Geneva Medical and they've agreed to take on all our calls, so that means minimal staffing while we're here. So as of now, you all have three weeks leave. Go do some shopping or enjoy a short day trip or something fun. But know that while you're all gone, I'll be going through the med kits and ship's stores and there will be hell to pay if anything is not as it should be." You're all dismissed." Sam started walking out when the officer called him. "Doctor Lopez, do you have a minute?" Sam stopped dead~what did i do now~ and walked toward the officer." how may i help you lieutenant?" (reply by chief medical officer) (posted by shawn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Bridge- CO- Capt. Ahmed Ibn Salid- Day 1- 1627.5*) Finally Caskie simply nodded her head. "That is an extremely kind gesture lieutenant and I appreciate it and thank you for it. "The Tranquility is in landing bay number 3552. We'll depart tomorrow afternoon, no earlier than 1300 but not before you are settled in." Then Chance just simply walked away returning to the security console. Ahmed mentally exhaled. It was an incredibly fortunate thing that Jennifer had seen into the fact that Chance was only trying to be helpful and not pry. After a couple of moments, Raschen turned toward the center of the bridge and asked "Captain; is there gonna be a staff meeting before we scatter?" Ahmed shook his head, "I don't think so Mister Raschen. All the senior officers have filed their reports and everything from here forward is pretty standard. I'll leave it to the department heads to forward me their crew rotas and to organize their own Leave time." he replied, "Besides I know that the crew could really use the time off." "Roger that sir." Raschen said (reply none) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - sickbay- CMO- Lt. Aleesa Wyler - Day 1 - 1628*) " how may I help you lieutenant?" Lopez asked. "Doctor Lopez, I know we've been serving now for almost two months, but I realized earlier that I really still don't know you. I like to get to know the officers under my command, and so I'd like to invite you out for a friendly get together. Nothing fancy, just a couple of drinks and a good meal. We can talk and get to know each other. What do you say?" (reply by chief medical officer) (posted by shawn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - sickbay- CMO- Lt. Aleesa Wyler - Day 1 - 1631) Lopez seemed to think about the offer for a few moments before responding. " I think I would like that. So, when and were?" he replied. Aleesa smiled, "How about tonight at 2000 hours? I'll make us reservations at Barnaby's steakhouse. It's on the promenade deck 48C starboard side." (reply Lopez) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Personal Quarters - 2O/CTAC - Lieutenant T'Larah Sullivan - 1632) The large gray feline had not left her side since T'Larah had returned to what everyone tells her is her quarters. He spent the first day rubbing his face, alternating both sides against the nearest part of her body, pant leg, arm, abdomen, what ever was available. Now that period was long gone and he was sitting in front of the replicator meowing his displeasure of what he had been served. "Don't like that huh? I guess no feline supplement #1." she mused out loud. She was just about to order feline supplement #2 then she thought of something. ~I wonder...~ "Computer, access previous replicator logs. Produce the last feline supplement ordered previous to stardate 2408.04.12." [Working. Feline supplement #32.] A small shimmer issued from the replicator and a small dish was produced heaping to the top with an assortment of finely shredded seafood blended with a nutrient mush-like gruel. As soon as she placed the dish down Norman was on it like a barnacle on an ocean going vessel's hull. The PADD on the desk chimed indicating that she had a message. It was a message from the Quartermaster of a vessel called the Tranquility. The message indicated that she was given private quarters and that the vessel was due to leave for Earth and Vulcan very shortly, and that any questions should be directed to C. Raschen. She tapped her com-badge. "T'Larah to Raschen, do you have a moment to speak?" (Reply Lt Raschen) "Good, what is the on-board time, Skipper?" (Reply Lt Raschen) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - sickbay- ACMO-Ensign (jg) Sam Lopez - Day 1 - 1633*) Aleesa smiled, "How about tonight at 2000 hours? Sam said as he walked out the door of sickbay.~ now i got plans~ (reply by chief medical officer) (posted by shawn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Deck 3 Passageway- CSec- Lieutenant (jg) Chance Raschen- 1635) Chance was on his way to his office when his comm-badge beeped and he heard Sullivan’s voice =^= T'Larah to Raschen, do you have a moment to speak? =^= He couldn’t stop himself from feeling like the old Sullivan would magically reappear “This is Raschen; I got a couple of minutes.” "Good, what is the on-board time, Skipper?" Chance smiled and replied “We aren’t getting underway until after 1300, but not before you’re settled. After I get with the Dock Master and my First Mate I’ll be able to provide more information. Anything else?” (Reply T’Larah) “Oh, one thing though. Don’t forget to bring your cat.” (Reply T’Larah iyw) Chance sat down at his desk and started forwarding information to his two Platoon Leaders, Ensign Haverstaad and Ensign (jg) V’Shera, about minimum security personnel was required on-board during repairs and how he wanted everyone to rotate so that everyone has an equal amount of leave. In his message Chance also explained how he wanted them both to work together on making up the duty roster for the department. After typing up the message and proof reading it; he said under his breath “to hell with this” and hit his comm-badge “Raschen to Haverstaad and V’Shera” (Reply Haverstaad, V’Shera) “I want you two to work up a duty roster for the next three months. I will be leaving the Rose for some business on Earth and then Vulcan. All I ask is that you follow the KISS method, your decisions pass the ‘Common Sense’ test, no one gets hurt, and all areas of responsibility are covered. Meet those four requirements and I will back your decisions.” (Reply Haverstaad, V’Shera) “One last thing, if you two rotate leave that’s fine. When I return, you both will be put on leave. Is there any questions?” (Reply Haverstaad, V’Shera) (Posted by Charlie) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Personal Quarters - 2O/CTAC - Lieutenant T'Larah Sullivan - 1637 ) Chance smiled and replied “We aren’t getting underway until after 1300, but not before you’re settled. After I get with the Dock Master and my First Mate I’ll be able to provide more information. Anything else?” "No that was it, just didn't want to miss my boat." she said joking with him. "I'd hate to walk to Vulcan." (Reply Lt Raschen if appropriate) “Oh, one thing though. Don’t forget to bring your cat.” Chance reminded her. "Thanks for the reminder, see you at Hanger Bay 3552 at 1300 tomorrow." she said. (Reply Lt Raschen) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Personal Quarters - FO- Lt Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 1 - 1640) As soon as the Captain had granted her leave to depart the Bridge Josh had returned to her quarters. She had a number of uncomfortable calls to make and she wanted the privacy of her own quarters to make them. As soon as she sat down at her terminal she contacted Ops and informed them that she had three personal calls to make to Earth. Asking them to route them through Geneva Station she mentioned that they were of a personal and private nature, but were all extremely urgent and she would be in her quarters when they needed her. Expecting a huge delay Josh began packing and was surprised when her computer station chimed. Sitting down at her desk she saw a young Ensign appear on the screen in front of her. "Commander Caskie, I'm Ensign Forest from Ops Geneva. I have all three of your calls waiting for you. What order would you like them in. Josh thought about it for a moment knowing that she should call her son first. However she thought he might probably be at the croft on his own and she wanted someone there with him whilst she gave him the news. "Put me through to Margaret Sinclair first, then Mr and Mrs Caskie and then finally Iain Caskie." The Ops officer nodded and after a moment or two Meg appeared on screen. =/\= Well my, =/\= Meg began. =/\= It's not often you grace us with your presence or even bother to contact us. To what do we owe the honour this time.=/\= Josh didn't even bother to reply and simply waited until Meg looked up at her. Meg froze for a moment looking at Josh. =/\= Oh dear lord, what is the matter? =/\= Josh took a beat before answering. "Meg I need a favour. I've found Donald's body and I am bringing him home soon. I'm going to speak to his parents next to organise the funeral, but I need to speak to Iain soon and I don't want him to be alone when I do. Meg nodded. =/\= Not a problem Jenny. He's at the croft. Give me fifteen minutes and David and I will be there. =/\= Josh smiled. "Thank you Meg, I appreciate it." Cutting Meg off before she could ask any questions Josh told the Ensign to put Mr and Mrs Caskie on. Elise answered the call and immediately greeted Josh warmly. Josh cut her off politely asking if Sam was there too. As soon as he came on screen Josh told them that during her ships last mission they had found Donald's body. Apologising for being abrupt and glossing over almost every single detail she simply told them that she would be bringing his body home shortly. Sam immediately took over asking if she wanted to arrange a funeral in Edinburgh or Orkney. Josh spoke with him about it and they agreed that it should be held in Edinburgh and that Josh would contact him about her expected arrival date when she knew more. As she signed off from speaking to Sam she could not help but hear Elise crying in the background and that more than anything almost broke Josh's heart. Knowing that the next call would be the hardest Josh sat at her desk not wanting to place it, but eventually the ensign came back on the screen. "Commander Caskie, I have Margaret Sinclair for you for your third call. Josh simply nodded and as Meg came back on the screen she simply looked at her waiting. Meg began talking almost immediately. =/\= David and I are here with Iain. He knows to expect a call from you and, let's face it he isn't exactly the stupidest guy on the block. He knew something was going on as soon as David and I turned up and told him you would be calling him. Do it quickly Josh and get it over with. =/\= Josh wasn't about to argue with Meg now, not now. "Ok Meg, put him on and you and David leave the room please." Watching Meg's mouth harden into a straight line was honestly like looking into a mirror, but Josh was firm and refused to accept any argument about it. "No Meg, I will speak to my son alone and you and David will wait outside. I appreciate your help but this is between Iain and myself." As soon as Iain appeared he grinned at her. =/\= Hiya Mum. Aunt Meg want's to protect me from something that I guess you need to talk to me about. I guess it's not good news so I suggest you just give it to me straight.=/\= Josh looked at her son, all grown up and ready to take whatever she threw at him. The civil war had a huge impact on him, but probably not the one that Doenitz had foreseen. Josh knew there and then that she could probably tell Iain the truth about his father and that he would accept it, however she decided that now was not the right time, so smiling back at him she nodded. "No Iain, it's not good news, but nothing that we did not already know." Josh took a deep breath. "The Rose came across the Epiphany during our last tour of duty and I have managed to find your father's body. I'm bringing him home for his funeral. The only reason I told Meg before you was that I did not want you to be alone when I spoke to you." Josh watched as Iain's face fell. She could see so much of herself in him. The refusal to cry, the tightening around they eyes and the mouth, and his all out refusal to be fazed by anything except on his own terms. Eventually he looked up at her again and tried to smile. =/\= I guess that I'll see you soon then.=/\= Josh nodded. "Yes, you will. I'll contact you when I know exactly when I will be back. I'm sorry Iain, but you needed to know." Josh sat there are her son terminated the call wanting nothing more that to put her head down on her arms and cry. Knowing that she couldn't wasn't a help. She had to finish her packing and then go clear the room that Donald had used. That was something that she was not looking forward to. (No reply needed (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Holodeck 4 – ATAC Ensign V’Shera – 1641) V’Shera had been vigorously working out in Holodeck 4 for the past two hours. First, V’Shera had reduced the holodeck’s safety protocols to moderate injury level before disengaging. She turned the holodeck’s interior into an artificial replica of hot and heavy Vulcan. Dressed in traditional dessert garb, and armed with only the simplest of Vulcan weapons, V’Shera had been practicing her fighting prowess against a variety of blade wielding Klingons, Hur’q, Cardassians, Orions and the like. V’Shera’s training aim was to constantly improve her Vulcan martial arts and melee weapons skills against the constantly improving threat levels posed by the computer generated holograms she regularly fought. What she was doing was the physical equivalent of a living being playing 3D-chess with the ship’s computer. It was equivalent to challenging the player’s mind and body. ~And being physically challenged is a lot more gratifying,~ Looking back on the progress she had gained since having mustered onto the Rose, V’Shera was quite satisfied, if not proud, of her growing acumen. As her training progressed, V’Shera’s individual foes had gotten progressively larger, skilled, and more aggressive and determined. Now V’Shera dealt with more multiple and mixed species in her latest martial arts simulations. Academically, V’Shera saw these new foes as both the holodeck’s tribute to her increased martial arts skills and the computer’s way of reminding her that no organic being was undefeatable, whether it was 3D chess or martial arts combat. In the back of her mind, she realized the aim ultimate of all the of the ship’s holodeck self-defensive programs was both to force its participants to continue improve their various combat skills while teaching them to know when retreat was better than death. With her last set of Orion, Klingon and Hur’q warriors dispatched, V’Shera was wondering what her individualized and inventive self-defense program was going to pit her against next? ~A Gorn or a Jem’Hardar? A warrior fighter from the historical past? Perhaps an early Vulcan warrior or an “augmented’ human from the Eugenics War?~ Before V’Shera got her answer the surrounding holo-environment froze in frame. Over the internal speakers, V’Shera heard Lt. Raschen’s voice addressing her. =^= Ensign Haverstaad and Ensign V’Shera, I want you two to work up a duty roster for the next three months. I will be leaving the Rose for some business on Earth and then Vulcan. All I ask is that you follow the KISS method, your decisions pass the ‘Common Sense’ test. No one gets hurt, and all areas of responsibility are covered. Meet those four requirements and I will back your decisions.=^= “Computer,” V’Shera commanded softly. “End self-defense program Omega One.” The computer obeyed instantly. V’Shera was standing in the standard large empty room. The bulkheads, overhead and deck were jet black and covered with the wide yellow colored grid. Though holodeck’s last program was now off-line, its computer interface was not. “Lt. Raschen, Ensign V’Shera here. I understand your orders. I’m contacting Ensign Haverstaad now. Together we will have a duty roster that meets with your specifications. May you live long and prosper, both on Earth and Vulcan.” (Reply Lt. Raschen, IYW) =^=One last thing, if you two rotate leave that’s fine. When I return, you both will be put on leave. Are there any questions?=^= “None on my part, Sir,” V’Shera replied. “V’Shera out, Lt. Raschen.” (Reply Lt. Raschen, IYW) “Ensign Haverstaad, Ensign V’Shera, here. Could we get together ASAP to coordinate a rotating Tac-Sec duty schedule as ordered by Lt. Raschen. Hearing this, Jon breathed a deep sigh of relief. After his long confinement in the neutronium bowels of the Harvester, Jon was annoyed to find himself becoming mildly claustrophobic on the long voyage back to Geneva. ~It certainly will be good to get off the Rose, Great Spirit, even it was inside of another great metallic hulk like Geneva Starbase.~ Unlike the accursed Harvester, Starbase Geneva was a life friendly ecosystem designed to nurture life and not end it. ~But duty and honor comes before phobia.~ Punching the intercom inside his quarters, Jon contacted the Bridge immediately. “Captain Salid and Commander Caskie. Counselor Nayati here.” (Reply Ahmed ibn Salid, Josh Caskie) “As you are my superior officers, allow me to take your watches for the first day or so. There were some questions that the admiral wanted answered and he had requested that Ahmed brief him personally. ~Goodness knows he's going to ask me about the deflector array.~ The captain thought as he stepped into the turbo lift. He tapped his commbadge. "Salid to Xim." =^= Go ahead captain, =^= The gamma shift leader replied almost immediately. "Lieutenant, I'd appreciate it if you assumed the CONN for a while.
