He breathed once, straightened his back and turned to Saleke. "Sorry, Sir. I got....detained unexpectedly." In Andreas's mind that was reasonably true. The harness had, after all, put up a bit of a struggle, making him quite late, instead of fashionably late. He quickly made his way to an empty seat at the end of the table but as he sat down he suddenly noticed this ....odour. It took him a few moments to realise that it was the smell of sweat and a quite powerful smell at that. And he suddenly cringed as he realised that he was the source of it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Bridge - AOPS/CONN Ensign Ash Physioc - 1206) As looked around the bridge, as he sat on the chair mulling over the possibilities which would just jump into his mind. He had opened his mind abit, he wasnt prying on anybody. He had just opened his mind to the people around him, if they had any stray emotions he would pick them up. It seemed most people were anxious or happy. These were weird feelings, ones Ash only felt at times of occasion - These people were happy with what they were doing, fighting for Freedom. He returned his thoughts back to the console in front of him, he was at the Ops station as there was another CONN officer at the CONN console. And as his first and foremost duty was to Operations. The computer beeped in with the results of a diagnostic, that he had requested done. ~Everything fine...~ He thought to himself, he felt like he knew the ship like the back of his brain. He had used is telekinetic powers to become one with the ship, last night in his meditaitonal state he had tryed a new form of telekeneticithis to him. He was able to feel things the thrum of the engines, the workings of the n'cells. It was like the ship around him was within him. Since that experience Ash had been unexpedily, connected with the ship - not as he was expected though. The ship seemed not to want to let him go.. This worried Ash, he hoped they didnt get into any battles when he was still connected. He wasnt able to disconnect himself either - or he would have done so by now. He still found it rather pleasant though, a ship was like a clear field of emotional problems. There was nothing. Ash smiled he now had one objective, to keep the Mystique alive and running, he believed that once he was joined to the Mystique and it wouldn't let him go, that his life force was also connected to the ship. He couldnt let it be destroyed or he would be killed in the process. It put some dampeners on Ash's thoughts, he couldnt figure out how to disconnect himself. He was connected with the ship but not in a way he could feel, but he knew he was as the gateway was still there. It seemed impossible... yet... he had done it.. rather unexpectedly. When he closed his mind the gateway was still open within his walls, he couldnt get away from it. It became an obsessive annoyance to him all that day. He was able to do everything he used to, but also he felt like if he tryed he could pull energy directly from the ship and become more powerful, although he dared not try. So he was still Ash Physioc, but now he had an Un-cuttable link to the Ship. He had decided this would be the perfect time to meet the Asst. Counsellor... Regan Alessi was her name. Or so he remembered... he had found this individual rather interesting when they last met, and he had felt hostile feelings from her. He quickly typed up a message for her.... Miss. Alessi. I am sorry to disturb you but i am in need of some advice. When would it be conveniant for me to meet with you? Ash had sent this to Alessi and pondered and answer. He wondered whether she would try and phyphon him off on the full Counsellor of the ship... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - ACONN Ensign (jg) Andreas Schliegler - 12:07) "We will begin the briefing with departmental reports." ~We WHAT???~ Andreas screamed mentally as he saw the First Officer sit down and the Tactical Chief stand up. He looked around the table and saw all of the officers have one or more padds in front of them. That is, all but one because Andreas's section of the table was ominously empty. ~Why didn't they tell me!~ he raged but caught himself as he realised that there was little chance of him being allowed out to get a padd himself. He closed his eyes and tried to regain at least some composure through a breathing technique. As he opened his eyes again, he saw Travis sit down again and with a mental snarl Andreas propelled himself up. "Right," he started, closing one eye to better concentrate. "Ok, Flight section status then. First some good news, or rather not so bad news. We have two men , one female, one male, down with minor injuries. I didn't see the doctor's report but expect them back on duty in 24 hours. The loss of two man-days should not affect us. What will affect us is that the front of main shuttle bay is out of commission due to dislocation of the front launch doors and required resurfacing of the floor. The aft-section is fully operational." Andreas shot the group an encouraging smile. "As for the nitty-gritty, three sphinx work pods have been destroyed due to failing anchors and it was them that damaged the flooring. The others are ok, apart from the fourth one, that is, which is being disentangled from the front hangar door as we speak. It's amazing how we didn't lose containment when the sphinx slammed into them. Good structural building standards will always show, I guess. Two runabouts and the two type 6 shuttles are undergoing early preventative maintenance but the rest is operational." Andreas closed his eyes, trying to remember if he had forgotten anything. "Oh yeah," he followed on, "The estimated time of repairs is apparently 9 hours but I can't see us being back to normal in less that 12. I think the estimates were a little optimistic." he explained shrugging. "On a final note, the simulation work is progressing well and preliminary results show enough benefits to warrant an immediate retraining session for all flight personnel. It has also already highlighted some issues that should be addressed. One of them is the introduction of safety harnesses. The simulations have shown that we can reduce the number of fatalities by 35% by attaching safety harnesses to every seat on the ship. The number of seriously injured crew will drop even further by 42%. I'll put everything in a report once the simulation trials have been concluded." Andreas sat down, then shot up again. "Oh, that's it from us fly-boys." he said as he sat himself down again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - 2O Lt.(sg) CT/S Jason Dema - 1208) Jason stood up as the first for his report, and slided over his PADD with the details on the prisoners. "I've filed a list about the crew of the Zephyr. When I was questioning Moto, I had some other pulled out as a decoy, and found it the best moment for some interrogations. Like you can see, not many with much in-depth knowledge. Also, we have sustained some injuries, but nothing serious to report, though a few extra might come in handy. To end this, our offensive and defensive systems are working within acceptable parameters, though some tweaks might be needed on out targeting systems. That is all" Jason sat back down. He took a peek at everyone, but once again, not at Taya, not yet did he want to face her. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - COPS Lt. Travis Keswick - 1209) Travis turned his focus to Saleke as he started the meeting. "Before we begin the briefing we will recognize the efforts of those among us who proved themselves capable in the recently passed engagement," He reached for a small box as he made the announcements. Saleke was starting the promotion ceremony by promoting Norm Harper. The young engineer was making his way back to the his seat when the observation doors opined up and his new friend Andreas slipped in, "Sorry, Sir. I got....detained unexpectedly." then hot-footed it to a seat and tried to blend into the group. Saleke gave ensign Andreas a stern look, a look that Travis has seen first hand and he did not wont to be in his friends shoes when Saleke gets ahold of him. The commander continued with the meeting. " Doctor Vren Marto please come forward." Travis looked on with pride as Marto stood up and walked up to saleke. Saleke took a black pip from the box and waited for Marto to approach, as she did so he said. "Dr. Vren has proven to be a highly capable medical officer and is being promoted to Lieutenant Junior grade." Travis nodded his head in congratulations to Marto as she took her seat next to him and Saleke continued with the next topic of the meeting. "We will begin the briefing with departmental reports." He sat down as he said. "Begin..." Jason stood to give his report. Travis took notes as Jason gave his report on the crew of the Zepher and an updated status of the defensive systems. After giving his report Jason sat down. Travis stood up to give the next report. He picked up the padd from the table. "Ships power systems have been fully restored. Between the shook wave and the Zepher I replace just about all of the power distribution nodes. I also established power transfer beam to the Zepher to help bust power levels to help Lt Garrett expedite repairs. I have also completed a full download of the zepher computer files onto the ships memory banks." Finishing his report Travis sat down placing the padd back on the table. looked around the room as the other officer gave there reports. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Sickbay, convalescent ward - Dr. Riven Mias - 1210) Riven normally would never have missed a staff meeting but good intentions always had their limits and sometimes something of greater importance came up.... such as this evaluation he had decided on yesterday, when it came to the well being of the Captain of this ship and a very close friend to him everything else could take a back seat. Since the episode with the Hiren TQO where he and Regan had to pull her back literally from the point of massive telepathic burnout not to mention possible death he had watched Vanyssa as closely as he could and left Regan to run the department which she had been doing nicely, she was sitting in on the meeting in his place at this very moment as a matter of fact and would take care of departmental affairs there. He looked back down at the woman who's flaming red tresses were gathered around her head and sighed, what he had told Saleke had been a bit misleading but sooner or later he was going to have to come clean. "Why did you do it Vanyssa? I could have helped and taken part of the brunt but you had to be heroic didn't you?" He frowned and shook his head as though to shake off a burden. "You had to be the fearless Captain leading the charge while the infantry kept the enemies attention and threw yourself in harms way.... all because of orders." That word was beginning to leave a bad taste in his mouth, when he had found out about the sealed communique from LoDona that had precipated her actions he had had to hold himself from exploding till he had returned to his quarters and turned up the sound dampeners so that he could scream out the anger that he had bottled up. ~Robert you are running up a bill that your a** can't pay and sooner or later I am going to have to demand you pay up, I am going to have my say and you won't like what you hear.~ Placing his hands on the side of the bed he closed his eyes and let his mind flow after calming himself down, there was no way he could do his job while anger ruled him. Her mind when he touched it was like a hard kernel, small and tightly knotted as before with no sign of any imminent change, when he contacted it he felt her withdraw in haste. ::Vanyssa you need to open up to me, you can't go on like this.:: There was no answer, nothing. Even his contact with her mind was broken as a weak shield managed to sever the communication. ::Vanyssa you have to open up...:: He pushed harder but realized in order to break through her resistance he would have to break the telepathic moral laws and as much as he wanted for her to open up ... He wasn't prepared to do that, not yet. "All right," His shoulders slumped as he sat back in the chair. "Won't you at least open your eyes and talk to me? Say something, please." But her eyes remained closed, there was not even any sign that she had heard him. The Betazoid bit his lip as he contemplated her still form. ~How am I going to tell the Commander I lied?~ That question stayed with him as he closed his eyes and pondered the future. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - ACMO Lt (jg) Vren - 1213) The Commander finally stood up and drew everyone's attention towards himself and waited briefly as they all settled down. "Before we begin the briefing we will recognise the efforts of those among us who proved themselves capable in the recently passed engagement," He reached for a small box as he made the announcements. "Ensign Norman Harper please come forward." Marto watched Norm as he finally realised that, yes, he was the one to 'step up to the plate' and, having been there herself a month or so ago, understood exactly how he felt. She clapped along with everyone else as he sat down. As Norm made his way back to his seat the door to the Lounge hissed open and the tardy member of the group arrived, he scooted into the lounge and stopped quickly... looking quickly at Saleke before stating, "Sorry, Sir. I got....detained unexpectedly." then hot-footed it to a seat and tried to blend into the group. " Doctor Vren Marto please come forward." This did indeed surprise Marto, but, to be honest, nothing today would phase her after this morning, so getting to her feet she stepped around the chairs and walked steadily over to the XO. Saleke took a black pip from the box and waited for Marto to approach, as she did so he said. "Dr. Vren has proven to be a highly capable medical officer and is being promoted to Lieutenant Junior grade." Marto smiled up at him. "Thank you Sir." and walked gracefully back to her seat. As soon as she was seated the Commander immediately began the briefing by asking for the reports and one by one they came in. Tactical and Ops had both given their report when the CONN Officer decided to weigh in with his. To be honest Marto was allowing her padd to record most of it so she could look over it later, but when he mentioned safety harnesses she started to pay attention. "It has also already highlighted some issues that should be addressed. One of them is the introduction of safety harnesses. The simulations have shown that we can reduce the number of fatalities by 35% by attaching safety harnesses to every seat on the ship. The number of seriously injured crew will drop even further by 42%. I'll put everything in a report once the simulation trial have been concluded." That indeed piqued her interest and she chimed in before anyone else could. "Actually Sir, I don't see that as such a bad idea. You will see during the report from Sickbay that several serious injuries were indeed caused by people, especially on the bridge, colliding with stationary objects. Whilst the inertial dampeners are supposed to stop this from happening, in a battle situation, this is not always the case. Seat belts might at least help the situation. At least let me look over Ensign Schliegler's notes and figures and let us give you a report on the matter." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - 2O Lt.(sg) CT/S Jason Dema - 1215) Jason heard something about safety harnasses and turned an ear. Also, Marto agreeing with this wasn't abnormal, but Jason view saw it as danger in case of boarding. ~This must be a joke~ "To be honest if I may." Jason quickly added. "I don't think that's such a good idea. For a fight that migt be good, but consoles can explode, leaving the person with no where to run, also, when the bridge gets boarded, me and other security-officers will need more time to react. I'll gladly trade some bruises instead of a captures ship." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - ACONN Ensign (jg) Andreas Schliegler - 12:16) Andreas was slightly surprised when he heard Vren react to his ad-lib 'report' "Actually Sir, I don't see that as such a bad idea. You will see during the report from Sickbay that several serious injuries were indeed caused by people, especially on the bridge, colliding with stationary objects." Andreas pulled a face as he was well aware that she probably meant Travis and himself. His tongue inadvertently pushed against the two new teeth that had been implanted as the ACMO continued. "Whilst the inertial dampeners are supposed to stop this from happening, in a battle situation, this is not always the case. Seat belts might at least help the situation. At least let me look over Ensign Schliegler's notes and figures and let us give you a report on the matter." "To be honest if I may." The security chief suddenly entered the 'debate'. "I don't think that's such a good idea. For a fight that might be good, but consoles can explode, leaving the person with nowhere to run, also, when the bridge gets boarded, me and other security-officers will need more time to react. I'll gladly trade some bruises instead of a captured ship." Andreas sighed silently, or so he thought. ~There was always one gung-ho idiot, wasn't there?~ "With all due respect, Sir," he started with a smile." it has been well established in previous studies that for some functions, wearing seat belts is impractical and indeed can even aggravate dangerous situations. But they are exceptions rather than the rule. In most cases the Mark 17 B, with its snap release mechanism, is regarded as the best compromise between fast exit capability and safety requirements. Upon activation it will take the belt 3.17 nanoseconds to release and allow the wearer to move away from the seat. As it takes a person on average nought point one or nought point two seconds to react to the situation anyway, the delay caused by the belt is insignificant. Of course one has to be trained on how to properly use the belt, but that is a small price to pay for the additional safety. But of course, we could go for the Mark 17 E, which release mechanism can be programmed to open in certain circumstances without an action from the wearer being required. And the programming could be done per seat, per function, per department, per whatever." Andreas eyed the people surrounding him until his gaze fell on the FO. "A staggering 85% of Mako pilots have stated that they would not as easily step into their fighter if they weren't sure that the fighter was equipped with a Mark 17 seat belt. It allows them to fly closer to the limits of their body without unduly restricting their movements." He looked back over to Dema. "Seeing that it will take me some time to finish the simulations, I would like to offer you a demonstration of the capabilities of seat belts nowadays in the meantime. They have improved quite considerably the last ten years, you see?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - Commander Saleke - 12:17) The report from Ensign Schliegler was exhaustive and detailed, just the type of report that a Vulcan would love and Saleke was impressed, his call for restraints to be added to the seating was a bit of a surprise and to be honest the FO had never considered the possibility though on the surface it was certainly logical in theory. Dr. Vren's voice broke in seconding the CONN officers idea. "Actually Sir, I don't see that as such a bad idea. You will see during the report from Sickbay that several serious injuries were indeed caused by people, especially on the bridge, colliding with stationary objects." Saleke noted out of the corner of his eye Andreas' moui in reaction to her words and he recalled the injury the officer had suffered during the encounter with the shock wave. "Whilst the inertial dampeners are supposed to stop this from happening, in a battle situation, this is not always the case. Seat belts might at least help the situation. At least let me look over Ensign Schliegler's notes and figures and let us give you a report on the matter." "To be honest if I may." Jason Dema piped up. "I don't think that's such a good idea. For a fight that might be good, but consoles can explode, leaving the person with nowhere to run, also, when the bridge gets boarded, me and other security-officers will need more time to react. I'll gladly trade some bruises instead of a captured ship." That was a logical consideration as well. A near inaudible sigh from Ensign Schliegler signaled his disapproval of the Tactical Officers point of view, Saleke's keen hearing picked it up clearly however. "With all due respect, Sir," He smiled." it has been well established in previous studies that for some functions, wearing seat belts is impractical and indeed can even aggravate dangerous situations. But they are exceptions rather than the rule. In most cases the Mark 17 B, with its snap release mechanism, is regarded as the best compromise between fast exit capability and safety requirements. But of course, we could go for the Mark 17 E, which release mechanism can be programmed to open in certain circumstances without an action from the wearer being required. And the programming could be done per seat, per function, per department, per whatever." Andreas looked around at the others then turned his gaze back to Saleke."A staggering 85% of Mako pilots have stated that they would not as easily step into their fighter if they weren't sure that the fighter was equipped with a Mark 17 seat belt. It allows them to fly closer to the limits of their body without unduly restricting their movements." His eyes swiveled back to Jason. "Seeing that it will take me some time to finish the simulations, I would like to offer you a demonstration of the capabilities of seat belts nowadays in the meantime. They have improved quite considerably the last ten years, you see?" The subject was aprapo but appeared to have run its course, Saleke steepled his fingers before him as Andreas' attention was focused on Jason. "The subject is intriguing and its consideration logical." He turned to Marto first. "Your request is granted doctor..." he turned back to Andreas. "Forward your data to Dr. Vren for analysis." Turning back to Marto he said. "You have two days to consider the matter and return to me with a report, if you have need of more time let me know." Turning to the 2/0 he continued. "Lt. Dema as you are charged with securing the ship during a battle I will expect you to go over seating restraints with Ensign Schliegler and determine if there are any varieties that may be useful under the conditions which you described and forward your recommendations to me for consideration." He looked from one officer to another after completing his orders. "I will expect the three of you to work closely together on this line of inquiry." He then looked about the table signaling the end of the subject. "Medical, Counseling and Engineering will make their reports followed by Lieutenant Ketal and the Science department." He leaned back once again. "Proceed." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - ACOUNS Ens(sg) Regan Alessi - 1218) Regan had positively beamed with pleasure as Norm was called up and promoted. At first he had seemed to stunned to move, but after a few seconds, he stood up and went forward, not quite managing to hide a small smile under a sterner expression. As he returned to his seat Norm almost glowed with pleasure, and Regan grinned at him to show how happy she was for him. "Congratulations," she whispered under cover of Marto's promotion and the applause which followed. "Dinner tonight to celebrate?" (reply Norm) The late arrival of the ACONN disrupted the proceedings for a moment. As he took his seat not too far from her and Norm, Regan's nose wrinkled. ~what is that smell?~ She looked at Andreas, who seemed to cringe a little. ~ack, it's him! what *has* he been doing?~ She glanced around the room, wondering if anyone else had noticed. She supposed the ones nearest him would have no choice but to notice unless they had no sense of smell! She looked a little closer at the TAC/SC and the ACSO. The ACSO looked a little unhappy to Regan, and as for the TAC/SC... even with her shields up Regan could see the tension radiating from him, and it had started when the ACSO came in. She wondered what was the cause as she listened to the reports and the discussion that followed Andreas's report. For her part, Regan thought that some kind of quick-release harness sounded like a good idea, especially if it prevented injuries. She knew that if she were on the Bridge next time Andreas took evasive action, she would be happier with some kind of safety harness than not. She jumped slightly as Saleke continued, "Medical, Counselling and Engineering will make their reports followed by Lieutenant Ketal and the Science department." He leaned back. "Proceed." Regan looked down at her PADD, reviewing her report as she waited for Medical to finish. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - 2O Lt. (sg) CT/S Jason Dema - 1219) Andreas tried strenghtening his reasons for the harnesses, but all in all the same as he said before. ~Probably another one that ran crying to his mother cause a small scratch.... momma's-kid.~ "Lt. Dema as you are charged with securing the ship during a battle I will expect you to go over seating restraints with Ensign Schliegler and determine if there are any varieties that may be useful under the conditions which you described and forward your recommendations to me for consideration." Jason simply nod, as he felt this discussion coming to a close. "I will expect the three of you to work closely together on this line of inquiry." ~Sure~ Jason thought, and took a PADD where he wrote his arguments against safety-belt. He surely added that the Mystique was no Mako-fighter. Frankly, he found that an insult for the Mystique. ~I'm so gonna sabotage this idea.~ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - ACMO Lt (jg) Vren - 1221) Marto watched the Commander as he considered the idea. "The subject is intriguing and its consideration logical." He turned to Marto first. "Your request is granted doctor..." he turned back to Andreas. "Forward your data to Dr. Vren for analysis." Turning back to Marto he said. "You have two days to consider the matter and return to me with a report, if you have need of more time let me know." Marto nodded her head. "I would think that we should indeed have a preliminary report ready for you by then Sir. You can then decide whether we need to look at the subject further or not." Saleke looked at all three of them in turn. "I will expect the three of you to work closely together on this line of inquiry." He then looked about the table signalling the end of the subject and Marto simply nodded, made notes on her padd regarding what information she would need from each person and sat waiting for the rest of the reports. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - ACMO Lt (jg) Vren - 1223) Nobody else seemed willing to be the next person to give a departmental report and Marto, glancing across at Angeni saw her deep in thought. Unable to catch her eye at all, Marto sighed quietly and looking across at the Commander began the medical report. "Sir. During our encounter with the shock wave the crew suffered a serious amount of casualties." She paused briefly and then carried on. "Thankfully most of these were minor injuries, sprains, broken bones, wrenched muscles etc and were treated at the various triage stations we had set up throughout the ship, as per the Medical Emergency Instruction Manual." "The more serious injuries were all treated in Sickbay and I am happy to inform you that with one exception everyone has now either returned to duty, or back to their quarters to recuperate." "That one exception is unfortunately Captain Winters who remains in Sickbay in a convalescence suite since her injuries, whilst not medically severe, are, I have been informed by Doctor Mias, incapacitating at present. Perhaps Councillor Alessi will be able to fill you in on her condition further during her report." One thing I would like to touch on is the fact that it did take both the triage teams and the other medical teams sent out during the emergency longer than optimum to reach some of the casualties. The bridge indeed being the obvious area in question. Part of that was indeed due to the structural damage the ship suffered but part of it was also the sheer number of injuries they encountered." "What I would like you to consider is this. During an emergency would it not be possible to have at least one nurse or even a medical technician stationed in the critical areas of the ship such as the bridge and main engineering etc so that medical aid, if needed, would be immediately available." (Reply any IYW) Marto continued with the report, her face slightly more sombre than before. "It is my sad duty to inform you that during our encounter with the shockwave we did indeed suffer 21 fatalities. Twenty of them were crew members and most were caused by either collisions with walls or other various pieces of equipment, causing either broken necks or serious head trauma that we were unable to remedy. However one crewmember did indeed suffer a heart attack brought on by extreme stress during the emergency. The other fatality, I am sad to report was one of Patia's children. Unfortunately she suffered 75% plasma burns and died in Sickbay before we could treat her." "Finally I would like to mention that the medical staff performed over and above their duty Sir. In an extremely difficult situation they performed excellently and should be commended." Marto finally laid her padd back down on the table with a sharp click and waited for any comments. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - ACOUNS Ens(sg) Regan Alessi - 1230) Regan had watched surprised as Marto gave the Medical report. She shot a glance over to the CMO, who seemed to be so deep in thought as not to have noticed that she was supposed to be doing so herself. She listened to the account of the injuries suffered during the encounter with the shockwave, and realised fully how lucky she and Menno and Norm had been. The suggestion to have a nurse or medical technician stationed in critical areas of the ship during emergencies made sense to her, but being new to the ship and not used yet to the way things were run, she waited to see if anyone had any other thoughts to put forward about it. As Marto finally laid her PADD back down on the table with a sharp click, Regan prepared herself to give her own report and when she received a nod from the FO, she began. "First, I'd like to give a little more information on the Captain. Dr Mias has spent most of his time at her side and is right now making an evaluation of her condition; once he has the results he will inform Commander Saleke. Unfortunately she has shown no signs of consciousness yet, and Dr Mias has been unable to establish even a telepathic contact. The situation therefore must be regarded as very grave." An image of the Captain as she had seen her, so vital and alive on the holodeck with Ketal, rose unbidden to her mind as she spoke. Her eyes briefly met those of the CSO, a mute sympathy in them, as she looked around the room at everyone there, knowing that all those who knew her would be anxious about the Captain's condition. She was careful not to let her eyes rest on Ketal any longer than on the other officers, and she doubted that anyone not in the know would have seen it. "I wish I could have given you a more hopeful report but until Dr Mias has finished his evaluation we cannot be sure how badly affected Captain Winters was by her contact with the Hiren on the Zephyr. "The counselling department has of course been working with those affected by the shockwave, especially the bereaved. This has meant that some other cases have had to take a back seat for the last few days, but we are now picking up the backlog and appointments which had to be postponed have now been re-scheduled." Here she glanced downward at her PADD as if to check on her next point, thus neatly avoiding looking at anyone, although she was sure that Lt Keswick would remember their breakfast meeting in Ten Forward, and the appointment she had coaxed out of him. However she would not communicate that to anyone else in the meeting. "I recommend that we assign a permanent counsellor to deal with the Pattia children. Not only do they have a lot of adjusting to do, but as Dr Vren reported, sadly one of them died following her injuries. Counsellor Relli, who has extensive experience of working with child survivors, has volunteered for this post, and I believe she would be the best person for the job. "I would like to add my thanks to the Medical department for their assistance in identifying those most at need of counselling in the last few days," she smiled at Vren, who had made time to make a list for the counsellor who had contacted her, despite being so busy herself. "And to commend the members of the counselling department who have worked so hard during the last few days," she finished. ::I'm sorry, Ketal:: she sent on a tight link to him, for his mind only. ::I wish I had had better news to give:: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - Commander Saleke - 1235) After Saleke had sat back and said, "Proceed," there was a collected time of pause as though everyone were drawing a breath and waiting for someone else to speak up, it was Dr. Vren who broke the awkward silence. "Sir. During our encounter with the shock wave the crew suffered a serious amount of casualties." Saleke turned his head toward her wondering why the CMO had chosen her to speak, the woman paused to gather a breath before continuing. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Angeni look away. "Thankfully most of these were minor injuries, sprains, broken bones, wrenched muscles etc and were treated at the various triage stations we had set up throughout the ship, as per the Medical Emergency Instruction Manual." "The more serious injuries were all treated in Sickbay and I am happy to inform you that with one exception everyone has now either returned to duty, or back to their quarters to recuperate." "That one exception is unfortunately Captain Winters who remains in Sickbay in a convalescence suite since her injuries, whilst not medical severe, are, I have been informed by Doctor Mias, incapacitating at present. Perhaps Councillor Alessi will be able to fill you in on her condition further during her report." "One thing I would like to touch on is the fact that it did take both the triage teams and the other medical teams sent out during the emergency longer than optimum to reach some of the casualties. The bridge indeed being the obvious area in question. Part of that was indeed due to the structural damage the ship suffered but part of it was also the sheer number of injuries they encountered." "What I would like you to consider is this. During an emergency would it not be possible to have at least one nurse or even a medical technician stationed in the critical areas of the ship such as the bridge and main engineering etc so that medical aid, if needed, would be immediately available." Saleke nodded, though situations such as the ones they had just encountered seldom arose it was logical to plan for such contingencies. "I will leave the logistical details to the medical department, forward your schedule to me when finished." Having said that he crossed his legs and waited for the rest of her report. The other fatality, I am sad to report was one of Pattia's children. Unfortunately she suffered 75% plasma burns and died in Sickbay before we could treat her." This was troubling, the CMO's earlier report had mentioned only six casualties, he would ask them both after the meeting why there was such a disparity in their figures. "Finally I would like to mention that the medical staff performed over and above their duty Sir. In an extremely difficult situation they performed excellently and should be commended." After speaking she set her PADD on the desk. Saleke noticed the ACOUNS appeared ready to give her report and he nodded to her as he steepled his fingers and settled deeper into his chair. "Thank you Doctor, the situation was indeed dire and the medical department is deserving of our gratitude, I will forward my commendations in person." After speaking he turned his attention to Regan. The situation therefore must be regarded as very grave." Saleke's eyes narrowed at that point, Dr. Riven Mias in his early analysis had painted a far less grim picture and these reports also did not add up, something was wrong.... both logic and common sense told him so and he was going to find out just where the contrast lie... by questioning the Doctor at his earliest opportunity. This has meant that some other cases have had to take a back seat for the last few days but we are now picking up the backlog and appointments which had to be postponed have now been re-scheduled." She looked down at the PADD then to refresh her memory as he waited, when she looked back up again it was with a stronger voice and inflection. "I would like to add my thanks to the Medical department for their assistance in identifying those most at need of counselling in the last few days," she smiled across at Dr. Vren. "And to commend the members of the counselling department who have worked so hard during the last few days," After speaking her eyes turned toward Ketal and the gesture was noted by Saleke who was well aware of the Captain's affair with the CSO, logic inferred she might have then been communicating with him but that was none of his affair at the moment, not till he found out what secret lay behind the current problem with the Captains health. "Your recommendation is noted Counselor, I will leave the decision to Dr. Mias and yourself regarding Ms. Relli as you are her immediate superiors." Turning his attention to the CEO he said. "Lieutenant Garrett you are the last to report before Lt. Ketal." Inclining his head slightly he waited for the young man to speak. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Observation Lounge - CSO, Lt. (jg) Ketal- 1240) Ketal couldn't miss the looks that Regan gave him during her report nor did he miss the sidelong look the FO gave him when her mind contacted his for an instant at the end of it. ::I'm sorry, Ketal, I wish I had had better news to give:: His eyes locked on hers for an instant as Saleke spoke in that deadpan Vulcan monotone. "Your recommendation is noted Counselor, I will leave the decision to Dr. Mias and yourself regarding Ms. Relli as you are her immediate superiors. Lieutenant Garrett you are the last to report before Lt. Ketal." ::Thank you Counselor.:: His mind turned inward to find Vanyssa's presence still there though unresponsive, she wasn't dead nor were her telepathic abilities burned out, she was just... there. That was the sum and total of it, she had locked herself within her own mind and would not come out, how long she would remain there was beyond anyones ability to foresee. ::She will find her way back eventually though I do not know how long.:: His own abilities had returned over the last few days to their full level of before and it did not strain him either to hear her or send his reply. ::If there is any change I will of course notify you and Dr. Mias.:: (Reply: Mason, Regan) After the CEO had finished Saleke turned his eyes toward Ketal and seemed to take his measure for an instant before he spoke. "Mr. Ketal you have the floor." Ketal nodded and tapped a series of buttons set on the table before him. "Ensign Darson has been studying the planet since its discovery and has prepared the report which I am about to give..." Out of the corner of his eye he could see the young woman's eyes as wide as though she had discovered a snake in her underwear drawer. "The planet has been given the designation Beta Seranis 4 at sector coordinates 023346358." "The sun is a Blue star Class B with a temperature of 18,350 degrees Kelvin at the surface and with an age of approximately 8.3 million years." The air over the table sparkled then seemed to implode, turning into the model of a solar system. "The inner two planets lie within the stars hot zone and are Class B meaning their surface temperatures are in the extreme range of 1,800 to 2,000 degrees farenheit with little atmosphere outside of molecular hydrogen and helium and marking them as less than two million years old." The third planet lit up, showing a green tint through the sensor filters. "Planet three is Class E with a dense atmosphere and high surface temperature within a range of 300 to 450 degrees farenheit and lies within the range of Mars of the Sol system, owing to the greater temperature of the sun however and its dense atmosphere it has a much greater likeness to the Sol planet Venus than Mars." The 5th and 6th planets then lit up in turn. "The outer planet is Class J, a gas Giant but the 5th planet lies far enough within the systems habitable zone to warrant a classification of Adabtable, with temperatures of -118 to 160 degrees it may be colonized in the future." He snapped another button and the 4th planet was illuminated, growing as the others faded out till the slowly spinning green, blue and white orb had drawn all attention to it. "Beta Seranis 4 itself has .8 Earth masses and three quarters Earth normal gravity, its surface is 78% water or ice with large polar regions of densely packed ice tundra. Sensors show a temperature of -23 to 112 degrees surface temperature. Atmospheric readings show a dense ozone layer with favorable magnetosphere giving adequate protection from the solar gradiant also known as the stellar wind which as everyone knows are highly ionized, charged particles of solar radiation. 22% of the surface then is marginally to optimally habitable with an atmosphere composed of nitrogen at 75.6 percent, oxygen at 23.3 percent and trace gases at 1.1 percent. Sensors also showed the presence of water vapor in the atmosphere which make this planet habitable for life forms. At present however while there is an abundance of plant life and lower animal forms there is no sign of any higher, sentient life forms." He was not through however. "Atmospheric pressure is also 18% higher than Earth normal which coupled with a slightly higher oxygen content make this planet a near Garden of Eden, it is difficult to accept that such a verdant planet should be uninhabited." Having spoken he stopped but did not sit down, "The floor is open for questions or comments." (Reply: Cynthia, any) Ketal sat down as he spoke. "There are any number of habitable zones which appear optimal for study, I would suggest sending teams down to each temperate region to take samples and conduct close-proximity scans. It is not unreasonable to take precautions during the studies as the local life forms might have developed previously unencountered toxins and be dangerous for our bio-chemistry." As he finsihed he thought of the Black Hills of North Dakota near where he had been raised, perhaps there was something like that also here, if so he would like to see them. "Are there any further questions?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
