Cmdr. Stolev - Day -6 - 1955) ==================================== Sasha stood looking at his reflection in the mirror. He straightened the bowtie on his tuxedo for the tenth time, and again wondered why anyone ever bothered with these things. He hadn't been this nervous in some time. He'd felt similar just before his first dinner with Eva, but that had been more of a chance to get to know each other better. That time, his uncertainty had centered around whether or not it constituted a date, or simply two comrades getting more acquainted. Now, he was quite certain that it was not only a date, but there were definite romantic overtones to the whole situation. He didn't have to be a telepath to pick up on them. His first off-duty encounter with Eva had been an eye-opener, mostly into his own feelings and sense of guilt and loss. Now, faced with his growing and undeniable attraction to her, his sense of guilt had changed disguises, but still pervaded his subconscious. While before he had felt guilt for what he perceived as his own failure to prevent Mara's death, now he faced the guilt of betraying her memory through his feelings for Eva. Eva had been right, of course. Mara would have wanted him to move on. His conscious mind knew that. However, he had worked so hard and so desperately to overcome his own inner demons with Mara, to condition himself to adhere to the tenets of fidelity and sobriety that he knew were so critical to his own survival and sense of self-worth, that his subconscious now warred against itself. "Here goes nothing," he muttered to himself as he walked away from the mirror and over to the replicator. "One dozen roses. Red." He took the flowers from the bay, took a deep breath, then turned and walked out of his quarters. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Outside Holodeck 2 - MCO Lt. Colonel Eva Straton & TAC/SC Lt. Cmdr. Aleksander Stolev - Day -6 - 1957) ==================================== Eva stood outside the holodeck wearing an elegant Russian dress of the time period of the holo-simulation. Her long red hair was pulled up in a popular hair style of the time period. Eva stood waiting for Sasha to show, trying again to get comfortable in the shoes she was wearing. ~How did the women of the time get along with these torturous things?~ she thought as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other. Sasha came around the corner and stopped short at the sight of Eva in her dinner gown. Eva turned as she felt him approach. She smiled when she saw the flowers he was carrying, then she felt the high level of nervousness he was feeling. Sasha smiled broadly as he walked up to her and offered her the flowers. "These are for you. You look quite lovely this evening, if I may say so," he said as casually as he could manage, while trying to ignore the feeling that all of his internal organs were suddenly weightless. "They're beautiful," Eva said as she took the flowers with one hand while taking Sasha's arm with the other. She wrapped her arm around his and turned to face the doors to the holo-deck, interlocking her fingers with his. "Now relax," she said as they moved up to the doors, "I promise I won't bite." Sasha quirked an eyebrow as a mischevious smile crossed his face. Sensing their approach the holo-deck doors slid open and they stepped inside and onto a sidewalk in old downtown Moscow. It was just after sundown, but there was still much activity in the city as people moved around the two as they started off down the road. Behind them the holo-deck doors slid shut and disappeared. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Holodeck 2, Old Moscow - MCO Lt. Colonel Eva Straton & TAC/SC Lt. Cmdr. Aleksander Stolev - Day -6 - 2000) ==================================== Sasha looked around in wonderment at the authenticity of this holosimulation. The onion domes of the cathedrals and the towers of the Kremlin glistened in the light of the setting sun, providing a remarkable contrast to the darkness and shadow that enveloped the rest of the city. The streetside oil lamps cast a warm glow over the crowded streets. Glancing around for a few moments to get his bearings, Sasha realized that they were not far from Red Square. He and Eva walked along the city streets, passing familiar landmarks, things that still existed in Moscow today, over 500 years later. Sasha had been trying to think of a restaurant that he knew of that would have been in existence so long ago, but he eventually gave up on the effort and was content to have Eva lead on to whatever she had in mind. As they moved down the road, Eva pointed out a few of the restaurants along the way. "There are several fine places to eat," she said. "What are you in the mood for? Classic Russian cuisine or something else?" "Oh, it has been so long since I have had anything close to authentic Russian," Sasha replied, his mouth already watering at the prospect. If the rest of the simulation was anything to go by, it was likely to be quite good. Maybe he could even get some caviar that tasted somewhat like the real thing. He'd made the mistake of trying replicated caviar once, but that was out of the standard fleet replicators, where the bulk nature of programming thousands of dishes frequently resulted in many subtlties of the dish being missed, and there were a great many subtlties to good caviar. "Let's try there," he said, indicating a small, elegant restaurant just a few doors down. "After dinner we will head to the theater a couple blocks over," Eva said as they moved in the direction Sasha had indicated. The only theater Sasha could think of nearby was the Bolshoi. His parents had taken him to many performances there as a youth, particularly to the ones where her mother was performing as part of the orchestral accompanyment. He could still clearly remember his first concert: a performance of The Nutcracker on a cold December night. His mother had been playing her cello in the orchestra, and to this day one of his favorite all time musical themes remained the hauntingly beautiful cello melody from the Waltz of the Flowers that he first heard her play that evening. Sasha stepped ahead and pulled the door open. "After you," he said as he held it open for her to pass. Once inside they were approached by a well-dressed maitre-d'. "Dva, pajalsta," said Sasha. "Tikhayah tablitsa ve oogleh, esti po voemozhnosti." NRPG: Sasha said "Two, please. A quiet table in the corner, if possible." Courtesy of a semester of Russian in college combined with a little help from babelfish. ;) RPG: The maitre-d' nodded politely. "Harashoh," he said as he led them to a table for two in the corner of the restaurant, next to a window where they could watch the passers-by on the street outside. The maitre-d' held out Eva's chair for her, then bowed politely and left once they were seated. The sole primary source of light was a gently flickering candle at the center of the table, though similar candles on the other tables, as well as the soft glow of the street lamps outside, provided ample ambient lighting. A waiter approached, filled their water glasses, and asked if they would like anything to drink. Sasha said he was fine with just water. Eva thought for a minute thinking at first to order a glass of wine, then remembered what Sasha had told her about his battle with alcoholism. ~Don't want him to think I'm trying to rub his nose in it or something.~ "I'll take a glass of ice tea please," she said finally. The waiter nodded, left two small menus on the table, and left. Eva then opened the small menu and began looking for something that sounded appetizing. "I admit I'm a little unfamiliar with Russian cuisine," she said. "What would you recommend?" "Well, let's see what they have," replied Sasha, looking over his own hand-written menu. It was small, but the dishes described therein represented an impressive cross-section of Russian fine cuisine as it existed in the late 19th century. "The grilled lamb with couscous looks good, as does the pelmeni of pheasant. Ah, and of course the beef Stroganoff is likely to be good as well. But we absolutely must start with the Beluga caviar." Sasha then looked up at Eva. "But, if you really want the full experience, you should order a vodka, preferrably the Moscovanaya. Don't worry, I won't be offended or insulted. Believe me, I know which is the good stuff, I've tried enough of it," he added with a sly grin. Eva smiled. "Beef Stroganoff sounds wonderful," she said. "Are you sure you're alright with me having something a little stronger to drink? I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable." Sasha nodded. "Of course. I know my own weakness, and part of controlling it is not allowing it to affect others and limit what they might choose to do. I can't control what they do, I can only control what I do, so I would not presume to even try. There's a prayer I say every morning: 'God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.' This morning I resolved not take a drink today. Once I have made it through today, I will deal with tomorrow. So please, by all means, indulge yourself and enjoy it, and don't worry about me. I'll be fine." He looked up to see the waiter return with Eva's tea. "Have you decided what you would like?" the waiter asked. "Perhaps an appetizer to start?" "We will start with the Beluga caviar, please," replied Sasha. He noticed that the waiter was turned towards him and was practically ignoring Eva. ~This simulation is authentic, alright,~ he thought wryly to himself, knowing that it was well into the twentieth century before women in Russia were considered as anything more than an extension of their husbands. He hoped it wouldn't offend Eva too greatly. "Then I will have the grilled lamb, and my lovely companion will have the beef Stroganoff. And perhaps something else to drink?" he added, with an inquiring glance towards Eva. "I would also like to try some of the Moscovanaya vodka," Eva said, looking at Sasha and then the waiter. "Very good, sir," replied the waiter with a short bow. "I will return shortly with your caviar." Eva chuckled slightly. "Got to appreciate the realism put into this program," she said with a smile and a nod toward the retreating waiter. Sasha felt his cheeks coloring as he nodded with a smile. "It's certainly authentic," he replied. The waiter returned and placed a plate at the center of the table. A small dish in the middle of the plate was piled high with light blue eggs, and the plate was ringed with small, thin pieces of toasted bread. The waiter then placed a small mother-of-pearl spoon on the table in front of each of them. "Enjoy," he said, placing Eva's vodka down beside her plate as he left. Sasha eagerly spooned out some of the caviar onto one of the pieces of bread. "This looks like Caspian sea caviar, and from a very old fish at that. The older the fish, the better the taste," he added with a smile. He took a bite and was pleasantly surprised at how close the simulation had gotten to the authentic mix of flavors that characterized good caviar. The hint of acidity, the subtle sweetness, and the buttery finish were all there. "Have you ever tried it?" "No, but I'll try anything at least once," she said, as she was spooning some of the caviar onto one of the pieces of bread. She took a bite and chewed slowly at first, fully experiencing the taste. She nodded as she swallowed. "A very unique flavor," she said, scooping some more onto the remainder of her bread. "Not bad, I can see how it can grow on people." She then washed it down with a sip of her vodka. "Also, very good," she said, holding up the glass of vodka before taking another sip. The two talked for several minutes about caviar, Russia past and present, and several other minor subjects, passing the time enjoying each other's company until the waiter returned with their orders. The waiter approached their table and set their orders down, starting with Sasha's. Eva smirked at the waiter as he set her plate of beef Stroganoff down in front of her then turned back to Sasha ignoring her once again. Once the waiter had left, the two talked quietly, refraining from talking about anything remotely pertaining to work, as they ate their respective meals. They discussed subjects ranging from Earth history and Betazed history to classical music and its development on both worlds and several of the masters from both worlds. The waiter returned on occasion to refill their drinks and ask if there was anything else they needed. Once finished with their meals they each had a small desert as they continued to talk. After about an hour, Eva looked out the window at the passers-by on the street. "We had better get going," she said, "or we will be late." Finishing off their drinks, the two rose and made for the door. Eva waited by the door while Sasha dealt with the maitre-d'. As they stepped out of the restaurant back onto the still busy street, Eva put her arm around Sasha's and leaned in close to him. "Now you're in for a real surprise," she whispered softly in his ear as they started moving down the street toward the theater arm in arm. "Oh, really?" he asked with a smile. "I can't wait to find out what it is," he added as they came out of the relatively narrow side street they had been walking down and entered the vast expanse of Red Square. "I do have a question I'd like to ask," Eva said as they started across the square under the moonlit facade of St. Basil's Cathedral. "When did you realize you were a telepath?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mission: To Live and Die in Starlight, Day 1 Stardate: 2407.02.01 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Science Lab 2 - Research Scientist - Doctor Engtamn-Jensi  - 0804) ==================================== Engtamn was at a critical juncture in his current work. He had managed to isolate some of the energy and tap into it, however the slightest error could result in the same sort of 'accident' that had claimed the life of that poor woman on Starbase Geneva.   =^=Rogers to Engtamn-Jensi=^= Engtamn resisted the urge to shut off his comm badge. "Yes Mr. Rogers, I'm here," he said quietly. =^=How are you doing this morning, Doctor?=^= "Very busy honestly. This is a rather inopportune moment," replied Engtamn. Since the... incident... he had a good deal less time telling people exactly what he felt and why. Afterall, he was already to be cast out by his people for breaking the non-violence directive, why not go for broke? =^=Doctor, I've got sort of a semi-interest in science. Would you like to get together for lunch and discuss wormhole physics with me today?=^= Engtamn looked at the growing energy signature in front of him. He quickly  manoeuvered to head off a critical intermix. "Mr. Rogers, I appreciate your interest and wouldn't mind speaking to you about such things, but right now is not a good time to discuss anything. I am in the middle of my work. I would imagine that you wouldn't bother Ensign Chandler or Commander Casely in the middle of battle. Well, honestly this is on par. Now, we can discuss this later. This is not a good time," stated Engtamn, not sounding at all like the Engtamn of old. He then cut off the communication and then put a restriction on who could contact him within the laboratory to command level individuals.   ==================================== (USS Boudicca – Conference room –CEO/2O LT John Fredericks – 09:25) ==================================== John listen to the briefing, He wasn’t happy about everything he was hearing. He had friends on Vulcan and family on Betazed. While thinking about this he noticed some one he hadn’t seen in a long time step forward. As he reached the front of the group Grailik began to speak, going straight to the point as always.     "Hello everyone.  Many of you know me from my time on board as First Officer. Many of you I've never met before, I will it to those that do know me to reassure those that don't, that I do not exaggerate when it comes to what I am about to share with you.  However, protocol demands that I remind everyone in this room that this information is classified.  It is not to be discussed with anyone outside this room with out express permission from either myself or Captain Sevant, and only discuss amongst yourselves with the utmost discretion." As Grailik began to describe the “super telepaths” John became even more unhappy. He had always been a strong empath but his skills in the other areas had just started opening up and he had little control over them. Sometimes when trying to “talk” with someone he could barely seem to make anything out, other times it was like everyone around him was tied into the ships intercom and screaming at him. While this was at times annoying if not out right painful he didn’t relish having his senses turned off. Just then he noticed something going on, felt a tension in the air and a oppressive feeling in his mind. Searching the group in the room he saw Eva and someone he didn’t know very well but had heard of, Isengard buy name. Both were sitting very still and had a look of extreme concentration that John had by now learned was a look of psychic combat. He began to start creating his own mental shield, knowing as he did that they were not nearly strong enough to block anything either of these two might send directly but might be enough to divert a an accidental attack. Blood began to pour from the noses of the two combatants as both Captains reached for their side arms and stunned the other’s officers. Both of the psychics flew backwards unconscious and slowly the two respective Captains lowered and put away their Phasers. Sevant while glaring at Grailik ordered his people out of the room but ordered Casley and Grailik to stay behind. (09:27-Turbo Lift) As he was entering the lift to return to engineering he heard a voice behind him. “HALT” and the doors reopened revealing his assistant. Mathew entered the lift with a somewhat wild look to his face, "What the hell was that all about. I haven't met those 2 before?" He exclaimed excitedly “Well”, John began. “ The Captain was named Grailik and as he said he used to be First Officer here. I served with him for a while after I joined the crew. He is a good officer, A good man. The other one is named Isengard and I don’t know a whole lot about him. ~Yet~ he thought to himself. I don’t know what went on in there other than I felt something between spring up between Eva and the other guy. Pretty intense huh? Although I prefer to do my fighting with either my hands or my phaser or as a last resort this John said as he slowly drew a Klingon dagger from a scabbard behind his back, the light glinting from the dual sided razor edge and the hook like protrusions that dotted the sides of the blade for the third of it’s length closest to the hilt . I don’t generally wear something like this since it is a little off the formal dress code but I feel a little more comfortable with it due to the upcoming entertainment with Doenitz . Looking interestedly at the dagger in John’s hand Mathew asked "Is that your regular day on board the Boudicca?" John laughed for a bit and checked his chrono. “Lets see, it’s a little after 09:30, I haven’t had breakfast yet. We just had a meeting and have been told we are going to war, have lost several planets to a bloodthirsty dictator and been front row center to a psychic arm wrestling match. Yea, that’s pretty common, you should wait till after lunch when things really pick up” ==================================== (USS Boudicca – Engineering Chief’s office – CEO/2O LT John Fredericks - 0926) ==================================== John sat in his office going over the previous shifts work. Nothing special, some re-alignments he would have to give the one over to. Nothing major enough to be considered a problem. He had good people on his team. He thought about the newest member Mathew McLaren. He didn’t know much about Mat…Mat, Mathew……. He would have to spend a little off duty time with his new assistant and get to know him a little better. ~Maybe after the meeting~ he thought to him self. With that thought he glanced up at the chronometer and winced. “Enough woolgathering , time to get to the meeting now” he muttered as he climbed out of the desk chair. Clipping the Phaser back to his belt he walked through the door and entered the main engineering deck. The deck itself was a hive of activity as everyone went about their jobs. He turned to head for the door to the corridor and was intercepted by a young ensign. Ensign Charro looked like she usually did, slight build, dark hair pulled into a tail behind her and a serious look to her impish face. She always looked like she needed watching out for, in a way she did. But it was usually to pull her off someone that became a bit too friendly. John received her report noticing his assistant as he glanced at the wall chrono and headed out the door. “Thanks Charro”, John replied to the young woman as he accepted the PADD. I’v got to get to a meeting but I’ll check it out on the way. Hurrying to the large doors he saw McLaren just as the turbo lift doors closed. ~Oh well, Guess I will have time to glance at this~ he thought as he walked to the lift, entered and called out the destination. Glancing at the PADD he saw a report that showed some minor power fluctuations on some secondary plasma conduits that were creating resonance problems in some of the minor backup systems. Again, nothing major. Unless that is, you needed those systems. He would initiate a test of the systems after the meeting. Arriving at his destination he stepped out and followed a few other department heads and their assistants to the meeting room and sat down in a vacant chair, nodding to McLaren as he did. ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Conference Room, MCO Lt. Colonel Eva Straton, Day 1, 0926) ==================================== Eva was talking shop with Spider when she felt more than saw Stolev enter the room. "Good morning, Sam," he said cordially to his TAC/ASC. A second latter Eva felt a slight 'tickle' on her mental shields very faint and weak. She turned following it to it's source and smiled. Stolev's eyes were closed and his face scrunched up in concentration. He opened his eyes to see her looking at him "I guess I need more practice, huh?" he asked sheepishly. ::Practice and patience,:: She sent to him, encouragingly. ::It will take time. The more you practice the easier it will become.:: ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room - TAC/SC Lt. Cmdr. Sasha asked Eva sheepishly. ::Practice and patience,:: she sent to him, encouragingly. ::It will take time. The more you practice the easier it will become.:: Sasha smiled and nodded to at least acknowledge that he had received and understood her message. He looked up as Dr. Munroe cleared her throat a little, went to the replicator to get a glass of water then sat down at the table. "Morning gentlemen, Ms. Chandler," she said. "Good morning, doctor," replied Stolev. (reply Munroe iyw) Stolev looked up as Sevant came in with the freighter captain, who was now dressed not in civilian attire, but in the uniform of a Starfleet captain. They took their seats and waited for the rest of the staff to arrive. Once they had, Sevant stood up. "Attention," he said simply, and the room quickly became quiet. "I had hoped for more time to prepare the Task Force, but that isn't going to happen. The attacks on Federation worlds are getting worse. Andoria has nearly been leveled, same with Tellar. The Vulcans have surrendered, as have the Betazoids and a dozen other core planets." He paused for a moment, "Millions are dead." He touched a control and turned on the main screen behind him. The screen showed a tactical map of the area which Freedom Squadron had used to patrol more then a year ago. There were three primary symbols there, all task forces. The Boudicca was second in line. "We're going in behind the Paladin; they have already cleared the outer defenses for us. But our mission is more immediate. We will be traveling further into the Federation, to this point." He turned and touched the screen, showing a planet a quarter days travel down the river from the outer line of defenses the Paladin had smashed. "As for why." he looked at Eva and the visiting tactical officer, Walker Isengard, for a moment, then turned to his companion. "Captain Grailik, if you would?" Grailik rose to his feet, putting down his cup of coffee. He gave everyone a warm smile, and a friendly nod. "Hello everyone. Many of you know me from my time on board as First Officer. Many of you I've never met before, I will it to those that do know me to reassure those that don't, that I do not exaggerate when it comes to what I am about to share with you. Grailik typed in a set of commands and the holographic display zoomed in to show a single sphere of cobalt blue. "This," Grailik continued, "is Tau Seti VIId. Third largest natural satellite of Tau Seti VII. It is, in simple terms, a giant ball of ice with a extremely thick and toxic atmosphere. Prone to extreme storms and energy discharge. All in all a very nasty place to live. It is also far away from established trade routes in a nice out of the way corner of the Federation. Which makes it a perfect spot for one of Admiral Doenitz's pet projects." Grailik paused, taking a moment to look around the room before continuing. "Though various intelligence gathering methods, we have learned that Doenitz has established a secret research facility somewhere in the southern mountain range. It's purpose, to breed an army of fanatically loyal 'super' telepaths. Much like the Jem'Hadar of the Dominion. Only these telepaths would be loyal to, you guessed it, Admiral Doenitz himself." Sasha noticed out of the corner of his eye that Eva's fists were clenched tight. He turned slightly to look at her and watched her eyes narrow and her face become totally unreadable. He knew this news was sure to anger her greatly, but if anyone had the ability use that anger and channel it for her own controlled purposes, it was her. "Currently we believe only a handful of these telepaths have been created, using genomes of several Federation races. Then for no apparent reason, Doenitz closed the project. He didn't destroy it. Simply put it on hold. He could start up again in a relatively little time. It is our mission to go in and destroy the facility along with these 'super' telepaths and all data and technology used in their breeding. Bad news, Doenitz did not leave the base undefended. There is still a fairly large security detachment stationed at the site, along with the first few super telepaths. Also, not far away is a 'loyal' detachment of star ships. No more than 20 minuets away. I think Captain Sevant could best fill you in on them." Grailik looked over at Sevant and nodded before sitting down. Sevant leaned forward, "Resistance is expected to be strong, even beyond the stationed ships. The Paladin's thrust has strip some, but not much, this place is too important to leave unguarded. We expect approximately twelve ships; all of them crewed by the fanatically loyal. Doenitz wouldn't protect one of his black projects with anything less." He turned his head to Casely, "We will work out fleet strategy later today," He turned back briefly. "All crew who are not extensively trained in telepathy or esper-blind will be receiving a shot to dull their telepath centers. Any that demur will be made unconscious until such time as the mission is over, and I will deal with them as I must according to the Articles of War at that time." He steepled his fingers "We have no choice. Any of you have dealt with a fanatically strong telepath in the past will know that." He glanced again at Eva and Walker. "Questions?" "Sir, how are we sure that these chemicals will work to block out 'super telepaths'?" asked Casely. "It's hard enough to do so and to stay focused at the same time with regular telepaths, and I know that some can breach the chemical haze that you're suggesting. Is there any real sure fire method to block their ability to read our minds, especially when dealing with sensitive information? Do we know the range that these 'super telepaths' can reach?" asked Paul. Grailik put down his coffee before answering. "Anitriopoline, the drug that Captain Sevant was referring to, is a fairly new drug," Grailik said, "It combined with mental conditioning has proved very effective in blocking unwanted telepathic intrusions. I have brought a sufficient supply of the drug with me and will be working with the Medical department concerning it's administration. The side effects are generally mild. Dizziness, fatigue, and constipation being the most common. We will not begin dispensing the drug until we are much closer to our target as prolonged use of the drug eventually leads to synaptic degradation. Again, I will be working closely with the CMO and the rest of the medical department in that regard. As for the mental conditioning, that is something each of you will need to work on individually. You will find a set of concentration and mental exercises already uploaded for each of you. If anyone finds themselves having difficulty with them bring it to the attention of either Lt. Rodgers or Lt. Alizara. I will be meeting with them as well to help in that regard as well. As for the range of a 'super telepath' I would suggest you ask one." Grailik nodded toward Eva and Isengard. "You didn't think we chose the Boudicca for this mission randomly did you?" Grailik smiled warmly. "Even better that you're Esper-blind," growled Isengard at Grailik. "So you at least can be safe while we fly into...a nest of telepaths." He frowned deeper, then paused and closed his eyes for a several seconds. "Captain Jergins on the Thermopylae is thinking about going to the doctor for stomach pains, he's thinking it's an ulcer... not surprising. He has something of a love for spicey foods and women in leather during his off-time" He opened his eyes again, and the creases which had formed on his forehead smoothed out again. "Check the Thermopylae's range, that would be the furthest I can personally reach with near perfect accuracy. Of course, I also know where the task force is, both our ranges are limited to line-of-sight otherwise, at least in terms of great range." He tossed a glance at Straton. He then looked over at the Captain. "And yes, that was quite illegal, Sir. And no, I won't be reading peoples minds on a whim. Further, I'm sure your Marine watchdog would be sure to slap me if I tried reaching anything more then broadcast thoughts in your head, tighten your shields." "In a heart beat," Eva said, quietly but with determination. Isengard then looked back at Captain Grailik. "And what's your place in this, black hole?" Sasha looked over at Eva and noticed that she had closed her eyes. He nearly jumped out of his chair at the sound of Isengard's palms slapping the table. He backed away from the table, staring at both Isengard and Eva as blood began to dribble from their noses. He heard Sevant bellow "No!", then a pair of phaser blasts from the head of the table hit both telepaths at almost the same time, sending Isengard flying out of his chair as Eva slumped face-first on the table. "Eva!" cried Sasha as he jumped out of his chair and instinctively checked her for a pulse. He was quickly joined by Dr. Mackenzie, who was already examining both of them. Eva was still breathing and had a strong pulse, but no one would know until she woke up what, if any, telepathic damage she might have suffered from whatever it was she and Isengard had been involved in. Sasha wheeled towards the head of the table, his hand reaching for the butt of his phaser. He saw Grailik and Sevant both with their phasers drawn, Grailik with a very disturbed look on his face. Sasha took a deep breath as he struggled to control his anger, and he slowly moved his hand away from his phaser. "Sedate them both and put them in secured lockup." Sevant ordered. "I'll ask questions when they wake up." He jerked his hand to Stolev and MacKenzie, adding, "and make sure they didn't fry each other." Stolev nodded silently, then squatted down next to Straton and MacKenzie. "Let's get them to sickbay to examine them first. Then we can put them either in secured isolation units there or in the brig if they don't require further medical attention." (reply MacKenzie) Sevant, still leaning on the table with his phaser in his hand and his face stern, looked over the rest of the crew. In a voice just half a step from a growl he said, "We will reconvene at a later time. Disss-missed." He pointed to Grailik and Casely, "You two stay behind." The doors opened and a medical team came in for Straton and Isengard. Stolev turned to Chandler. "Sam, you stay on the bridge. I'll be in sickbay with these two." (reply Chandler) Stolev then followed MacKenzie and the medical team out the door as they carried the unconcious bodies of the two telepaths to sickbay. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Corridor - COUNS - Lt. (JG) Brian Rogers - 0928) ==================================== Brian hurried his way down the corridor, trying to reach the conference room in time. He was quite annoyed, since Dr. Engtamn-Jensi seemed to be avoiding him about anything, and Brian hadn't even asked him questions about his experiances on the planet Velorum IV. Brian was thinking about trying to 'work over' Dr. Munroe. Brian was ordered to observe both of them, and if he earned her trust, perhaps she would tell Engtamn-Jensi, who would in turn confine in Brian. Brian rolled his eyes, it was a long reach that things would work out that well. He was studying everything he could find about the Grazerite race, hoping to find a way to segue into meeting with Engtamn-Jensi. He had thought about asking one of the officers in the Command division to order Engtamn-Jensi to a meeting, but that would only alienate Engtamn-Jensi, has most people didn't respond well to being forced to seeing a counselor. Brian put his mind to rest (regarding the "Engtamn-Jensi situation") has he entered the Conference Room, just has the meeting had started, has Captain Sevant had called attention. ==================================== (USS Boudicca-Conference Room-CMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-09:28) ====================================       Sitting down, she looked around and noticed the faces of new crew she was going to be serving with.  She didn't much care to have been transfered to the ship, but she really had no choice, as it affected everyone in the circle that came from Geneva.        Quietly waiting for the meeting to start, she noticed the Captain coming into the room and power walking directly to his chair, as if he had no time to waste.       "Attention."       Everyone who had once been talking now stopped, awaiting to hear what the Captain had to say next.       "I had hoped for more time to prepare the Task Force, but that isn't going to happen. The attacks on Federation worlds are getting worse. Andoria has nearly been leveled, same with Tellar. The Vulcans have surrendered, as have the Betazoids and a dozen other core planets."       "We're going in behind the Paladin; they have already cleared the outer defenses for us. But our mission is more immediate. We will be traveling further into the Federation, to this point."       Kaitlyn watched the screen as he touched it, showing the crew the exact locations and points upon which they would be traveling.       "As for why."       She noticed he looked towards Captain Grailik who got to his feet and joined by Sevant's side. It is not to be discussed with anyone outside this room with out express permission from either myself or Captain Sevant, and only discuss amongst yourselves with the utmost discretion."       ~Well that much was already obvious,~ she thought, hoping he would get straight to the point already. He turned his head to Casely, "We will work out fleet strategy later today."       Kaitlyn looked towards Casely, who nodded to Sevant in return.  Her gaze then focused back on Sevant. Any of you have dealt with a fanatically strong telepath in the past will know that."       ~Wonderful,~  She thought sarcastically.  ~How many people will need this shot exactly?~       "Questions?" ==================================== (USS Boudicca - turbolift - ACEO LTJG Matthew McLaren - 0928) ==================================== Looking interestedly at the dagger in John’s hand Mathew asked "Is that your regular day on board the Boudicca?" John laughed for a bit and checked his chrono. “Lets see, it’s a little after 09:30, I haven’t had breakfast yet. We just had a meeting and have been told we are going to war, have lost several planets to a bloodthirsty dictator and been front row center to a psychic arm wrestling match. Yea, that’s pretty common, you should wait till after lunch when things really pick up” Matthew leant against the wall of the lift as it descended and laughed at the chief's last remark. "Sounds like i'm in for a wild ride, i'm sure this wasn't on the contract when i signed up. New i should have read the fine print." He said only half joking. (Reply iiw) "I haven't had breakfast either yet, you wanna grab something now?" ==================================== (USS Boudicca-Conference Room- ACEO LTJG Matthew McLaren - 0929) ==================================== Matthew sat back and listened as the captain briefed the crew.     "I had hoped for more time to prepare the Task Force, but that isn't going to happen. But our mission is more immediate. We will be traveling further into the Federation, to this point." He gestured to the screen behind him. Matthew leant forward in his chair focused on the screen. He watched as another man, someone McLaren didn't recognize, stepped up to the screen. It is not to be discussed with anyone outside this room with out express permission from either myself or Captain Sevant, and only discuss amongst yourselves with the utmost discretion." Matthew silently groaned. ~Can work that much out for myself I think.~ The mood in the room had turned slightly sour, and he could feel tension building in the people around him. Matthew looked away from the screen at the faces around him. They all held the same stern expressions. Any of you have dealt with a fanatically strong telepath in the past will know that." Matthew thought back to his pre-star fleet days. He had had a run in with some telepaths before and they weren't his favorite people. They had killed the captain of the cargo ship he had been working on at the time and several of the crew. Matthew had been one of the lucky ones. His thoughts were interrupted by the Captain's voice again.     "Questions?" Discussion followed about finer details of the mission and Matthew noted what he needed to know. He didn't have any questions at the time and was content to listen. As the voices trailed away Matthew found himself looking at 2 of the crew he hadn't met yet. There eyes were closed and there faces were tight with concentration. Matthew went tense and his hand flew to the but of his phaser in its holster as he realized what was going on. ~Telepathy!~ Blood began to seep from the noses of both crew members, dripping onto the front of their uniforms. Both captains leapt  to their feet yelling. Matthew had his phaser out in a flash but wasn't fast enough. Two precise phaser blasts dropped the combatants onto the floor where they lie, unmoving.     "Sedate them both and put them in secured lockup." Sevant ordered. "I'll ask questions when they wake up." he jerked his hand to Stolev and MacKenzie. "And make sure they didn't fry each other." Most of the crew were already standing up. The doctor moved to the unmoving crewmen on the floor. Matthew looked to Casely who seemed to be restraining his anger. Sevant, still leaning on the table with his phaser in his hand and his face stern, looked over the rest of the crew. In a voice just half a step from a growl he said, "We will reconvene at a later time. Disssmissed." He pointed to Grailik and Casely, "You two stay behind." Matthew headed for the exit glad to be getting out of there. He headed for a turbo lift and punched the call button. He couldn't believe what had just happened. ~This isn't what star fleet is supposed to be like~ He stepped in and the doors began to close. He saw the CEO walking towards the lift. "Halt." He said to the computer and the doors reopened. The chief entered and the doors closed again. "Engineering." He said. "What the hell was that all about. I haven't met those 2 before." (reply) "Is that your regular day on board the Boudicca?" ==================================== (USS Boudicca - turbolift – CEO/2o LT John Fredricks - 0929) ==================================== Handing the weapon back to John, Matthew made the comment that he hadn’t eaten either and invited John to have breakfast with him. “sounds good” John replied and ordered the lift to deck 9. After a few seconds the lift slowed to a stop and the doors opened into the mess hall. Glancing toward the replicates John spotted one that currently didn’t have a live and motioning to Matthew, headed to the line and ordered a double helping of scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, toast orange juice and milk. Glancing back at his assistant’s odd look he sheepishly replied “You can take the boy out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the boy”. John picked up the tray and headed over to the nearest table and started on his breakfast. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room - Capt Sevant & Captain Grailik - 0930) ==================================== Sevant slid into his seat and looked around. There were so many new faces, people who had only been around for the last two weeks while the Battle-group formed. So many old faces gone, killed or transferred. ~Such is the fate of war.~ Sevant thought grimly. Sitting next to him was the freighter captain, now finally dressed in a Starfleet uniform befitting his position in the fleet, no longer the roguish freighter captain. Several people in the room were throwing glances his way, but nobody said anything directly to him. That was all well and good, it would change soon enough. Besides, he was now recognized but several of the older crew from his time as First Officer. Once he was sure everyone was there he stood, "Attention." He said simply, and waited for them to quiet down. It didn't take much, talk had been subdued anyway. "I had hoped for more time to prepare the Task Force, but that isn't going to happen. The attacks on Federation worlds are getting worse. Andoria has nearly been leveled, same with Tellar. The Vulcans have surrendered, as have the Betazoids and a dozen other core planets." He paused for a moment, "Millions are dead." He touched a control and turned on the main screen behind him, not giving any time for curses or grumbling at the news. The screen showed a tactical map of the area which Freedom Squadron had used to patrol more then a year ago. There were three primary symbols there, all task forces. His, the Boudicca, was second in line. ~How many times lately have I stood here, in front of a map much like this, and explained we would be walking into a situation that could so easily kill us?~ he wondered briefly with more then a touch of darkness, before clearing his head. "As for why." he looked at Eva and the visiting tactical officer, Walker Isengard, for a moment. He considered the mission plan, but kept his face under tight wraps as he gestured to his guest, "Captain Grailik, if you would?" Grailik rose to his feet, putting down his cup of coffee. He gave everyone a warm smile, and a friendly nod. "Hello everyone. Many of you know me from my time on board as First Officer. Many of you I've never met before, I will it to those that do know me to reassure those that don't, that I do not exaggerate when it comes to what I am about to share with you. He glanced again at Eva and Walker, the Security guards face had darkened. "Questions?" ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room - COUNS - Lt. (JG) Brian Rogers - 0931) ==================================== Brian walked in and took his seat and turned his full attention to Sevant has he started speaking to the crew assembled at the meeting. "I had hoped for more time to prepare the Task Force, but that isn't going to happen. The attacks on Federation worlds are getting worse. Andoria has nearly been leveled, same with Tellar. The Vulcans have surrendered, as have the Betazoids and a dozen other core planets. Millions are dead." Brian looked down at his standard-issue boots and absorbed the news. He felt sorry for those who had died. Most probably had not any relation to the military. He wondered if those planets would ever recover. He pondered the future, if this 'conflict' would go down in history has a great event in history, a turning point. However, he returned to the present and looked on as a tactical map was brought up. He listened has Sevant reported the Paladin's mission, then introduced a "Captain Grailik" who started briefing them on the planet. "It is, in simple terms, a giant ball of ice with a extremely thick and toxic atmosphere. Prone to extreme storms and energy discharge. All in all a very nasty place to live," Grailik said. Brian concurred in his head. ~Why is this important to us?~ Brian asked, but Grailik answered his questions. "It is also far away from established trade routes in a nice out of the way corner of the Federation. Which makes it a perfect spot for one of Admiral Doenitz's pet projects. Brian listened to his description of the enemy telepaths with half scientific interest and half fear of what they could do if the intel on them was correct. Sevant continued with talking about the expected resistance. "We expect approximately twelve ships; all of them crewed by the fanatically loyal. Doenitz wouldn't protect one of his black projects with anything less." Brian wondered if this was going to be good, hopefully Commander Casely knew what he was doing. "All crew who are not extensively trained in telepathy or esper-blind will be receiving a shot to dull their telepath centers. Any that demur will be made unconscious until such time as the mission is over, and I will deal with them as I must according to the Articles of War at that time," Sevant explained. Brian looked at the floor again and realized for the first time that he was in the 'big time' now. They were serving on a warship, not just sitting on some starbase where his biggest problem was that some new officer was having problems fitting in. He was on a real warship. Sevant called for questions, and Brian had none. He was a counselor (and a non-telepathic one at that) and his role would most likely be largely non-vital in this mission. Brian then sat and waited for more questions to be asked. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Mess Hall - ACEO LTJG McLaren - 0931) ==================================== Motioning to Matthew, John headed to the line and ordered a double helping of scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, toast orange juice and milk. Glancing back at his assistant’s odd look he sheepishly replied “You can take the boy out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the boy”. Matthew moved up to the replicator and ordered just simple scrambled eggs, toast and a coffee. Carrying his considerably smaller tray to the table John had chosen, he sat down and dug in. In between mouthfulls of eggs and toast he asked, "So which country cant we take out of you, where you from?" ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Conference Room, TAC/ASC Ensign Samantha Chandler - 0932) ====================================   Sam sat next to Comdr.. Stolev waiting for the captain to begin the meeting. She looked around the room at the people she already know and the others she hadn't gotten a chance to meet yet.   "Attention," the captain said as he stood to begin.   Sam turned her attention towards the captain, wondering what the information was that he was about to give them.   "I had hoped for more time to prepare the Task Force, but that isn't going to happen. The attacks on Federation worlds are getting worse. Andoria has nearly been leveled, same with Tellar. The Vulcans have surrendered, as have the Betazoids and a dozen other core planets." He paused for a moment, "Millions are dead."   Sam was a bit shocked at hearing the amount of destruction that had already been done. She had to wonder how bad Earth had been damaged. She turned her attention back to the captain as he turned the main screen on behind him. It showed a map. "As for why." he said, "Captain Grailik, if you would?"   Another man that Sam didn't know stood up and addressed the group. It is not to be discussed with anyone outside this room with out express permission from either myself or Captain Sevant, and only discuss amongst yourselves with the utmost discretion."   He typed in a few commands and the display changed. "This is Tau Seti VIId. Only these telepaths would be loyal to, you guessed it, Admiral Doenitz himself.  Currently we believe only a handful of these telepaths have been created, using genomes of several Federation races. No more than 20 minutes away.  I think Captain Sevant could best fill you in on them."    Sevant leaned forward, "Resistance is expected to be strong, even beyond the stationed ships. Any of you have dealt with a fanatically strong telepath in the past will know that."   "Questions?"   Since she didn't have any, Sam sat back and listened as the others asked their questions.   "Sir, how are we sure that these chemicals will work to block out 'super telepaths'?" asked Casely.  "It's hard enough to do so and to stay focused at the same time with regular telepaths, and I know that some can breach the chemical haze that you're suggesting. Is there any real sure fire method to block their ability to read our minds, especially when dealing with sensitive information? Do we know the range that these 'super telepaths' can reach?"   Grailik put down his coffee before answering. Further, I'm sure your Marine watchdog would be sure to slap me if I tried reaching anything more then broadcast thoughts in your head, tighten your shields."   "In a heart beat," Straton said, quietly but with determination.   Isengard then looked back at Captain Grailik. "And what's your place in this, black hole?"   Sam who was trying to pay attention to everything that was going on. She looked over at Straton amd Isengard. She jumped, startled, as Isengard's hands slammed onto the table. Before Sam, or pretty much anyone else for that matter, could react, two phaser blasts fired. Both of the of the officers were hit. Her own hand instinctively moved towards her phaser.   Sam looked towards the head of the table where the phaser fire had come from. Sevant and Grailik both had their phasers drawn. She was somewhat confused at what was going on. She looked on while others tended to the two unconscious officers.   "Sedate them both and put them in secured lockup." Sevant ordered. "I'll ask questions when they wake up."  He jerked his hand to Stolev and MacKenzie, adding, "and make sure they didn't fry each other." Sevant, still leaning on the table with his phaser in his hand and his face stern, looked over the rest of the crew. In a voice just half a step from a growl he said, "We will reconvene at a later time. Disss-missed."   He pointed to Grailik and Casely, "You two stay behind." As a medical team arrived to deal with Straton and Isengard, Stolev, who had squatted down next to Mackenzie and Straton, turned to her, "Sam, you stay on the bridge.  I'll be in sickbay with these two."   "Aye sir," Sam replied as she stood up and headed out of the conference room.   ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room- StratOps/3O - Lieutenant Commander Paul Casely - 0937) ==================================== Paul listened carefully to the briefing. This was... concerning to say the least. Paul hated dealing with telepaths. It was never easy, and it always caused more problems than it solved. When asked for questions, Paul spoke up.   "Sir, how are we sure that these chemicals will work to block out 'super telepaths'? Its hard enough to do so and to stay focussed at the same time with regular telepaths, and I know that some can breach the chemical haze that you're suggesting. Is there any real sure fire method to block their ability to read our minds, especially when dealing with sensitive information? Do we know the range that these 'super telepaths' can reach?" asked Paul. This would be a specific problem for those dealing with strategy or tactics.   ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Conference Room, Captain Grailik, 0938) ==================================== Grailik was calming sipping his coffee while watching the crews reactions to what they were being told. Grailik had taken the time to read up on all the newest members of the Boudicca crew. He was not surprised when Commander Casely spoke up first. "Sir, how are we sure that these chemicals will work to block out 'super telepaths'? Its hard enough to do so and to stay focused at the same time with regular telepaths, and I know that some can breach the chemical haze that you're suggesting. Grailik smiled warmly. ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Conference Room, Walker Isengard, 0940) ==================================== "You didn't think we chose the Boudicca for this mission randomly did you?" Walker shifted forward and waved a hand, "Even better that you're Esper-blind." He growled. "So you at least can be safe while we fly into..." He paused and looked at Casely, "... a nest of telepaths. Walker frowned deeper, then paused and closed his eyes for a several seconds. "Captain Jergins on the Thermopylae is thinking about going to the doctor for stomach pains, he's thinking it's an ulcer... not surprising. Further, I'm sure your Marine watchdog would be sure to slap me if I tried reaching anything more then broadcast thoughts in your head, tighten your shields." He said in response to Sevant's darkening gaze and the series of thoughts that were leaking from his shield. Not that Sevant was untrained, far from, but he didn't have either Straton's or Isengards raw strength either. He looked back at this Captain Grailik, "And what's your place in this, black hole?" ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Conference Room MCO Lt. Colonel Eva Straton, Day 1, 0941) ==================================== Eva's mood darkened considerably as she listened to Sevant and Grailik. Thoughts of Betezed in flames, her citizens dead or dying filled Eva's mind. Then when she heard about their mission and the Doenitz's 'super' telepaths her fist tightened till her knuckles shone white such was her anger at the atrocity upon atrocity being committed in the Federation. She forced the anger down, channeled it. Harnessed it for the battle to come. Her eyes narrowed and her face became a mask. She had heard Casely's question and Grailik's response. She turned to look at Casely when Isengard spoke up. "Even better that you're Esper-blind." He growled. "So you at least can be safe while we fly into...a nest of telepaths." Eva shifted slightly in her chair as Isengard closed his eyes. She knew what he was doing and stood ready to stop him if he went too far. "...both our ranges are limited to line-of-sight otherwise, at least in terms of great range." He then looked at her and she only scowled. Then he turned toward Sevant "And yes, that was quite illegal, Sir. And no, I won't be reading peoples minds on a whim. Further, I'm sure your Marine watchdog would be sure to slap me if I tried reaching anything more then broadcast thoughts in your head, tighten your shields." "In a heart beat," Eva said, quietly but with determination. Then Isengard turned on Grailik. Eva looked over at Sevant. ::Your thoughts are leaking, Sir. Say the word and I will put Mr. Isengard back in his place.:: ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Conference Room, Captain Grailik, 0942) ==================================== Grailik watched the scene unfold before him. He had read Isengard's bio before he had ever reached the Boudicca. The man had issues to be sure, and he was making it blatantly apparent now. "And what's your place in this, black hole?" Isengard said at last turning to Grailik. Grailik noted the change in Straton's body language but before he could say a word she closed her eyes. Isengard reaction was all Grailik needed to know what was going on. A second later blood began to fall form Isengard's nose, a second latter blood began to ooze from Eva's nose. "No!" Grailik shouted, at the exact same time Sevant did. Grailik pulled his phaser and set it to high stun in one fluid movement and fired at Eva a heartbeat ahead of Sevant who fired at Isengard. Grailik watched as Isengard flew backward and Eva slumped down on the table. He slowly put his phaser away as Sevant issued orders to his crew. Grailik took a deep breath to calm himself. "You two stay behind," Sevant said. ~Damn right I will.~ Grailik thought as he watched everyone file out of the room. When it was just the three men left Grailik looked at Casely. "Lt. Commander," Grailik said firmly, using his command voice, his eyes on Sevant. "Step outside a moment." Grailik waited till Casely had left the room and the doors had closed before he said anything. "You gave her permission to attack didn't you," Grailik said, it more a statement than a question. "What were you thinking? We need them. Both of them. Alive and on their feet. Not as vegetables. He hadn't done anything *yet* to cause Eva to attack him unprovoked. You had to of given her permission. Your the only one who could have." ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room - Capt Sevant & Capt Grailik - 0942) ==================================== "Step outside a moment." Sevant eyed Grailik, and then gave Casely a small nod of permission. He stood up, phaser in hand, as the door closed behind Casely. "You gave her permission to attack didn't you," Grailik said. "What were you thinking? We need them. Both of them. Alive and on their feet. Not as vegetables. He hadn't done anything *yet* to cause Eva to attack him unprovoked. You had to of given her permission. You're the only one who could have." "I told her to heel him; she's guarded against him before." Sevant said as he shoved the phaser into his under-arm phaser. "Not to wage a war. You once told me her job, and she's as aware of Isengard and his skills as both of us are. I didn't think she would just go..." his face darkened. "I will see to it that neither one of them as much as looks at each other, much less goes to battle." He straightened his back and put his hands behind his back. "And I will remember this for the future, apparently she couldn't control him." "You don't control someone of Walkers strength and mental profile," Grailik replied, "The man is just this side of suicidal. He, like Eva, is either win or lose. The second you gave her the go ahead it became a kill or be killed battle. Neither of them is of the mental character to admit defeat at any cost. Why do you think we chose them for this mission? That is what this is. We either win or lose. We needed a pair of super telepaths with the mental make up to make this mission work. Willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING, even their lives if need be to make this mission a success. That's Eva Straton and Walker Isengard." "Noted," Sevant said briskly. "It is a mistake that will not be repeated." He closed his eyes for a moment. "Is there anything else?" "Yes," Grailik said, "We need them to work TOGETHER. As a team. What happened here is a serious set back to that and this mission. I will expect you to take steps to see it corrected." "It will be straightened out." He said, matter-of-factly. He would have time to figure out how later, they were both going to be out for a few after a phaser strike and sedation. "Lieutenant Commander Casely." Sevant barked. "Enter." ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room - Capt Sevant - 0943) ==================================== ::Your thoughts are leaking, Sir. Say the word and I will put Mr. Isengard back in his place.:: Sevant's eyes tightened at Isengard's naked use of his abilities. They were at war, absolutely, but there was no threat on the board at this second. He had heard enough of Eva and her abilities to know this was her specialty, if anyone could control him... ::Bring him to heel:: he quickly sent. ~Before he looses control.~ he continued to himself. What happened, however, was not what he had expected in his wildest dreams. Eva did nothing but close her eyes, and Walker's reaction was instantaneous. His head snapped to the side and both his palms slapped the table hard. And then for another couple seconds, nothing happened. Sevant's eyes went wide as blood started to dribble out of Walker's nose, and out of Eva's half a second later. "No!" he bellowed as he yanked at his phaser from its under-arm holster and jumped to his feet. Someone else's phaser blast hit Eva a half-moment before Sevant's hit Walker. The Assistant Security Chief went sprawling back, knocked flying over the back of his chair and landing on his back several feet. The chair tipped onto him moments later. Sevant looked to the side and watched Eva slump face-first onto the table. The Captain continued turning his head to the side and noticed a... disturbed... Grailik holding a phaser at Eva. Sevant shook his head and put the phaser on the table, then leaned on it and his other hand, which was curled into a fist. ~What in the bloody HELL was she thinking?~ he raged, full of Vulcan passion, as officers moved around the room around him. He looked up at both of them after a few more moments, "Sedate them both and put them in secured lockup." Sevant ordered. "I'll ask questions when they wake up." he jerked his hand to Stolev and MacKenzie. "And make sure they didn't fry each other." (reply: Security, medical, any) Sevant, still leaning on the table with his phaser in his hand and his face stern, looked over the rest of the crew. In a voice just half a step from a growl he said, "We will reconvene at a later time. Disss-missed." He pointed to Grailik and Casely, "You two stay behind." ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Conference Room, MCO Lt. Colonel Eva Straton, TAC\ASC Lt. Walker Isengard, 0944) ==================================== ::Bring him to heel:: Sevant replied and Eva didn't waste a breath. She closed her eyes and assaulted Isengard with a full barrage of telepathic attacks. Walker's head -snapped- to Eva, and within a second the veins in his neck went taught and his eyes closed. Unconsciously he slapped both his hands flat-palm against the table with an audible 'THUMP' as he retreated into a mental plane to deal with the sudden, apparently hostile, onslaught against his mind. He broke the threads that were coming at him and struck back immediately at the speed of thought. He'd tasted the flavor of her attacks before, and his mental self growled as he recognized a self-proclaimed betazoid telepathic warrior. He didn't have the time to articulate his thoughts of fatalistic determination as he buckled down for what could easily be the fight of his life. (Mental Plane, Time is irrelevant) On the mental plane both were donned in glowing armor and wielded a glowing sword. The glow an indication of their respective will and power. Eva worked to block Walkers retaliation, using an ancient technique to turn a portion of Walkers strength back upon him. The two were now locked fully in combat. Their swords weaving blindingly fast. Thrust. Parry. Riposte. Parry. Thrust. Each scoring hits and each taking wounds, but neither slowing or giving ground. Walker's mental protection, his inner-image of himself, was nicked several times in the infinite time that was mind-space... and his face was pulled back in a horrible deaths-head scowl. But neither had he let Eva get away unscathed, she too sported hypothetical blood on her armor as their weapons moved in hypnotic grace. They weren't fighting with swords, but their weapons and armor were symbolic of the forces they were bringing to bare in their struggle. It quickly became apparent this was a fight he could not win; the skills she yielded were specifically to take down other strong telepaths, such as himself. But he had many years and many fights under his belt, he quietly resolved to rip her up as much as he could for her unprovoked attack. And then, without warning, his mind screamed and all his defenses dropped. He put his hands to his head and howled to the sky as he was ripped away from the battlefield... the 'sounds' of his screams, and those of his opponent, echoing in his non-existent ears... ==================================== (USS Boudicca-Conference Room-CMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-09:44) ====================================       Still in the conference room, she had only been there for about fifteen minutes in total.  Captain Sevant had asked the crew if they had any questions, going through normalities of it all before they were to be dismissed.  However, it did not yet come to that.       Kaitlyn sat in the quiet room, watching as something had triggered a reaction in Walker.  Noticing everyone else's confusion at the matter, including herself, she could do nothing but watch as she also noticed Sevant and Straton acting oddly.       The first few seconds Kaitlyn didn't think anything of it.  She knew the three were telepathic, and figured that's what was going on.  She had no idea it wasn't 'simple' telepathic communication until she saw blood start to dribble out of Walker's nose, and then Straton's.  Her concerns went way up and she was now more alert to the situation.  Of coarse she still wasn't sure exactly what was going on, but enough to know they should bring it to a halt.       As if her thoughts were read....presumably she hoped so....the 'war' between the two was stopped by phaser blasts.  One straight to Walker and one to Straton.       Hopping out of her chair before even given any orders, she went straight to the both of them, doing what she could not being in sickbay to examine them in detail.       "Sedate them both and put them in secured lockup." Sevant ordered. "I'll ask questions when they wake up." he jerked his hand to Stolev and MacKenzie. "And make sure they didn't fry each other."       Her gaze fluttered from the two, to Sevant, and back.  Sighing, she wondered why telepathy had even come into existence.  ~All it does is invite trouble,~ she thought.       "We will reconvene at a later time. Disss-missed."       With that, Kaitlyn awaited the medical team she had contacted so they could get to sickbay.   ==================================== (USS Boudicca - StratOps - Lieutenant Commander Paul Casely - 0944) ==================================== The little display before he was "asked" to step outside had been nearly enough for Paul. He'd been questioning how well he would fit into the crew of the Boudicca almost as soon as he'd stepped onboard. Now, it seemed they were answering his question. Paul had felt the same discomfort the others had felt, that he had warned Sevant about, almost from the instant he'd stepped on board, now that had been heightened to a fever pitch. He'd worn it better, but that was partially experience. He would be shocked if himself and Mackenzie weren't able to suppress certain gut reactions as well as they both had. This, however, was way beyond his regular experience. Paul did not feel comfortable and felt very much less than happy about the situation and he was sure that others were having difficulty dealing with it as well. Paul did, for example, catch the look on Kaitlyn's face as she left to minister towards the two infantile, psychopathic telepaths. If this what having telepathy did, he was glad he was 'esper blind' as it had been put.  ~They don't seem to even be able to behave like 'Starfleet Officers', is this what I'm supposed to be saving?~ he had to ask himself in silence.   Finally, several minutes later, Paul found himself being barked at again, this time to enter. Paul walked into the room and looked at both men, shaking his head the entire time. He really felt very little like giving any outward shows of respect to anyone involved in that fiasco, but knew that he had little choice but to do so.   "Reporting as ordered, Sirs," Paul stated limply and stood there. He would do his job, and do it as well as he could, but this was not what he had signed up for.   ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Conference Room, Counselor Domini Alizara, 0945) ==================================== Domini had sat stone shocked at the idea of Betazed in flames. ~My home... My family~ She knew that Eva would feel the same way, then she heard phaser fire, and looked up shocked at the idea of the senior staff shooting each other. Eva fell to the floor and Domini was out of her seat, at Eva's side. ::Eva ?:: She sent softly, feeling the bruised mind, but not burnt. She sighed, sitting back on her heels, glancing over at Isengard. She knew that she would have to touch him at some point to ascertain the damage. It wasn't something that she was looking forward to. ~All telepathy does is invite trouble~ Domini turned with that stray thought to stare at the CMO, someone who Domini was not sure that she liked, although she respected her... her record certainly showed that she was competant. Domini glared up at Sevant, who was as usual unreadable. This was his fault somehow, Eva would never have reacted t he way she had without orders. The Captain had dismissed them, but Domini had no intention of following that order just yet. She stayed by Eva's side and frowned up at the Captain. "Sevant, I might have been wool-gathering while this was going on, but Eva would not have done this without your explicit order, or a lot of provocation. I don't know which it was, Sir, but I don't see that it is fair to punish Eva for Isengard's theatrical display." She felt shocked as her courage drained out of her and she stood before the Captain and Grailik shaking like a leaf. ~OH MY GOD I CAN"T BELIEVE I DID THAT OHMYGOD OHMYGOD.~ She was just thankful that there were only a couple of people in the room to witness her unusual display. She began to sweat under the Captain's stare. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room - Counselor Domini Alizara - 0945) ==================================== "Sevant, I might have been wool-gathering while this was going on, but Eva would not have done this without your explicit order, or a lot of provocation. I don't know which it was, Sir, but I don't see that it is fair to punish Eva for Isengard's theatrical display." Sevant stared at her hard for several long moments. "That will be quite enough Counselor, you are dismissed." He said, leaving no room for argument. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room - Capt Sevant - 0948) ==================================== "Reporting as ordered, Sirs," Sevant looked at the officer for a moment, and then gestured to a chair. "Both of you have a seat. Computer, secure this room." The computer beeped as the doors slid shut and interference cut into any monitoring devices. Sevant pulled his chair out and sat with long practiced grace. (reply: Grailik, Casely) "We'll reorganize the meeting later, but for now, you'll have to brief the fleet soon." He handed his PADD over to Casely, "Both of us will join you in Stratops for a fleet conference at 1100 hours, this is the prelim orders." He sat back in his chair. "I will be dealing with our two telepaths, we need both for this mission, the level of danger we face increased geometrically without both in working shape.' ==================================== (USS Boudicca-Conference Room-CMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-09:48) =====================================      As Kaitlyn checked over Straton's vital signs, she was suddenly aware of another presence floating into her view.        "Let's get them to sickbay to examine them first.  Then we can put them either in secured isolation units there or in the brig if they don't require further medical attention."        Nodding in agreement, Kaitlyn then watched as right on que, the medical team came in to transport both Straton and Isengard.  Helping them place the 'victims' onto the cot, she was ready to follow in close step behind them.        Hearing Stolev's voice once more, he stated, "Sam, you stay on the bridge.  I'll be in sickbay with these two."        "Alright people, let's move it!"  With that, both Stolev and Mackenzie were out the door.   ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Corridor near Conference Room - COUNS - Lt. (JG) Brian Rogers - 0951) ==================================== Brian was quite unsure of what he had witnessed in the conference room. He felt has if this was almost another holodeck simulation, since it seemed so... odd. Brian filed out with the rest of the senior staff, aside from those who had stayed behind. Brian suddenly spotted Engtamn-Jensi heading out and walking towards the turbolift. Brian scurried over next to him and started speaking. "Ah! Dr. Engtamn-Jensi... how was your work this morning? Don't you remember that you were engaged in such an important manner that you could not speak to me?" Brian said, with feigned delight and some what of a tone of annoyance in his voice. He was determined to get a report on Engtamn-Jensi's mental health to Commander Casely. (reply Engtamn-Jensi) "Ah, I see. Well, would you like to plan on a lunch meeting to discuss wormhole physics? Surely us two ex-Genevaites can get together to discuss some science? What do you say to around 12.30? I'll let you choose the venue, Doctor." Brian said, wondering how another counselor would get this done. Perhaps if this didn't work he should look back at some of the old Therapy Texts they gave him at the Academy. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Corridor near Conference Room - Research Scientist - Doctor Engtamn-Jensi  - 0953) ==================================== Engtamn was approached by the Counsellor immediately after the travesty of a meeting. Engtamn resisted rolling his eyes.   "Ah! Dr. Engtamn-Jensi... how was your work this morning? Don't you remember that you were engaged in such an important manner that you could not speak to me?" Brian said.   Engtamn's face turned into one of extreme annoyance, something that few people had ever seen from the Grazerite. Certainly, the last mission had created a marked change in him. "Listen, Lieutenant, your interruption during my duty hours is firstly, inappropriate. Do I bother you with personal matters when you're seeing a patient? Secondly, had your momentary distraction caused me to miss a change in the energy source I was dealing with..."Engtamn paused for a second to compose himself, "Do you remember what happened to the science officer who was fooling with my experiment on Geneva? You were hoping that would happen to me? To this ship? What I deal with is dangerous. I don't know why some of you can't get that through your heads!" Engtamn had raised his voice louder than he really ever had before. The last few weeks had caused a monumental shift in his outlook on his culture and on the people around him. He didn't need some 'counsellor' second guessing him and bothering him.   "Ah, I see. Well, would you like to plan on a lunch meeting to discuss wormhole physics? Surely us two ex-Genevaites can get together to discuss some science? What do you say to around 12.30? I'll let you choose the venue, Doctor," replied Rogers.   Engtamn felt some of the annoyance fade away momentarily, "We'll see. If I have time... and mind you that's if I have time... the common lounge is fine. I believe they call it 10 Forward despite the fact its not on the 10th deck."   ==================================== (USS Boudicca -Conference Room - CSO- Dr Maddison Munroe - 1000) ==================================== Maddie sat in her chair, shocked at what had happened in front of her very eyes. Never, in her entire life had she felt so powerless to stop a strggle of wills. She'd felt powerless before, especially during the last mission, but not like this. She'd been humiliated, but this was just fear for the sake of fear. What could she possibly do against such forces of will as that. At least, now, she knew why she'd been asked to do all of that research on telepathy and telepathic races. She had an understanding of how most of them behaved and the rules and the reasons for the rules and laws that had been put in place to govern them. Whle doing her research she became constantly amazed at how the Betazoids, and Vulcans managed to conduct themselves as rationally as they did. Most telepathic cultures wound up in some form of anarchy, or dictatorship. As the room emptied out, as if nobody had even seen her, she realized that she hadn't even had time to speak. There was the shock of what they were going to have to do, and then the uncertainty of how they were supposed to do it. In the end, after everything fell apart, everyone probably figured that she wasn't a problem, so she didn't need to be addressed. The door to the conference room closed, leaving her on her own. Even Domini left, after being ordered, pretty much, to mind her own damn business. She ran herfingers through her long and pulled it at the end. Then she stood up. "Damn," she said, "I need a drink." As she left the room she noticed Engtamn-Jensi talking with the counselor. EJ looked a tad vexed. As the two parted she stepped past Rogers with a nod and siddled up to the Grazerite as he walked away. "Now there's a look I'm not sure I like," she said, trying to lighten the mood. "Everything okay?" ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Aft Quantum Torpedo Launcher - Warrant Officer Jerral Revan - 1000) ==================================== Jerral liked working the aft torpedo launcher, it was quiet there at the bottom deck of the ship, both mentally and physically. He walked into the room and stretched, the launching room was dimly lit, the only light from the dim overheads and the multicolored console. He stood there for a moment and listened to the hum of the engines then went to work. "Computer, list aft quantum torpedo launcher, tube one, as down for preventative maintenance on all required and necessary screens, access code Revan-Omega-6-2-0-Epsilon-Sigma," he said walking over to the loading mechanism at the breech of the launching tube. Before he took out a single tool, he looked over every moving part by eye looking for any visible wear or damage. After that he scanned for non visible damage and wear. Unlike most of the rest of the ship, the torpedo launchers were mostly mechanical, requiring the most moving parts of any system short of the doors themselves. This meant that they wore down faster and needed regular checking, which meant that Jerral spent more of his time crawling in and out of torpedo tubes than he did doing anything else. All this suited him just fine though, he liked his job, and he was good at his job, keeping the weapons systems in tip top shape. Jerral tapped a few buttons on the loader when he was done with it. The loader disengaged from the launcher and slid back, giving Jerral access to the launching tube. Jerral tapped out a sequence on the wall pad that would seal the tube from the open space, and give him access through the loading hatch. Pulling out his tricorder he scanned the seal and repaired a few micro fractures in the seal before they grew to anything anyone would need to worry about. After he was done with that Jerral slid into the launching tube. It was a tight fit, but Jerral was used to it, it also helped that he was smaller and less bulky than a lot of other engineers. This was the part of the maintenance that Jerral needed to be quick, but thorough, with. If the Captain called for the weapons, Jerral needed to be out of the confining tube and have the system back to ready as fast as possible, but that was something he had drilled for for years, and with four years working specifically with Keltoi class ships. He moved at a quick pace, one developed through years of experience with crawling around torpedo tubes. The inspection was uneventful, and Jerral crawled back out of the tube after 10 minutes minutes or so. Torpedo tubes were usually rather warm, and this tube didn't disappoint, so Jerral came out sweating, which he was so used to, he barely minded. After he put the first tube back online he moved on to the second tube, working through the seven tubes of the aft quantum torpedo turret. About an hour later Jerral climbed out of the last tube and re-engaged the launching system, and took the turret off of repair and put it back into service. Jerral stretched, then packed up his gear and pulled out his PADD. Writing a quick report he headed for Main Engineering, to file his report with the Chief Engineer. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Corridor near Conference Room - Research Scientist - Doctor Engtamn-Jensi  - 1002) ====================================   After his 'confrontation' with Rogers, Maddie quickly sidled up to him. Engtamn still felt the heat in his blood, but it was subsiding quickly. The sight of Maddie helped it to assauge it even more.   "Now there's a look I'm not sure I like," she said brightly,  "Everything okay?" "I am just tired of people not understanding that we have work schedules for a reason. That some of our experiments are dangerous and interrupting in the middle of one is hazardous," replied Engtamn.   (Reply Maddie)   "Rogers was just describing his... annoyance... over me not being able to meet with him socially when I was on duty in the middle of an experiment. To be honest with you, I don't care much for counsellors at the best of times and these are not the best of times. Besides which, what do you think would happen if you 'popped in' unannounced to talk about Paresi Squares or some fool thing with the Captain when he was in the middle of a meeting? I found Rogers annoying when he had to constantly describe his family line on Geneva and I still find Rogers annoying now. I just never had the foresight to say it before... or the guts," stated Engtamn with a wink.   ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Corridor near Conference Room - Research Scientist - Doctor Engtamn-Jensi  - 1002) ====================================   Maddie listened to Engtamn's woes. She seemed to take it well, but then she hadn't known him before their shared incident.  "Well, things change," she said. "I think speaking your mind is a good thing, so good on ya.  Besides, I tend to have the same feelings about those medical types.  They always want to get into your business, even if you don't want them too.  kaitlyn keeps trying to talk to me about our experience, saying it's good to talk.  I mean, she's pretty and all, but that's the last thing I want to keep reliving.  I'm ready to move on." "Yes, I do agree. I have things to deal with, some I do not understand myself. Before I can 'talk' to someone else who has not lived through the experience, I have to come to terms myself with things. You help me, they do not," he stated patly. The pair started moving towards the turbolift, almost subconsciously, almost as if they were reading each other's thoughts. Then, Maddie spoke again. "Do you have any interest in telepathy?" she asked.  "I mean, it's kind of intriguing.  The number of times I wished I could know what's going on in someones head.  It sure could alleviate certain problems." Engtamn looked at Maddie and chuckled. "That would be the biologist in you. I'm afraid that the only concern with telepaths I have is trying to keep them out of my head. I do believe, however, that it might be able to construct some sort of portable technology that could do so... if I had a competent biologist helping me with that end of things," he smiled, "Do you know one?"   (Reply Maddie)   "I do not see why, due to the fact that the brain runs on electrical current, that an outside telepathic assault could not be blocked. I, unfortunately lack the biological knowledge to make something like this work. However, we might be able to find something that could help... if you're interested. It would at least cut down the number of drugs that would need to be pumped into our systems," stated Engtamn thoughtfully. He didn't know if it would work, but certainly it could be worth a try. It wasn't as if the two of them were tasked with anything specific anyway.   ==================================== (USS Boudicca -Conference Room - CSO- Dr Maddison Munroe - 1003) ==================================== Maddie smiled at Engtamn's dilema. "Sometimes I wonder if people think that the science department actually does anything. Why, what was going on with the counselor?" Then EJ went into a small tirade about Rogers and his dislike for counselors in general and annoyance at Rogers in particular. The Grazerite finsihed off by saying, "I found Rogers annoying when he had to constantly describe his family line on Geneva and I still find Rogers annoying now. I just never had the foresight to say it before... or the guts," stated Engtamn with a wink. Maddie choked back a laugh. "Well, things change," she said philophically. "I think speaking your mind is a good thing, so good on ya. Besides, I tend to have the same feelings about those medical types. They always want to get into your business, even if you don't want them too. kaitlyn keeps trying to talk to me about our experience, saying it's good to talk. I mean, she's pretty and all, but that's the last thing I want to kepp reliving. I'm ready to move on." (reply EJ) They walked towards the turbolift and waited a few moments for it to arrive. Once they stepped inside and ordered it to take them to the science deck she spoke again. "Do you have any interest in telepathy?" she asked. "I mean, it's kind of intriguing. The number of times I wished I could know what's going on in someones head. It sure could aleviate certain problems." ==================================== (USS Boudicca -Conference Room - CSO- Dr. Maddison Munroe - 1005) ==================================== Engtamn looked at Maddie and chuckled. "That would be the biologist in you. I'm afraid that the only concern with telepaths I have is trying to keep them out of my head. I do believe, however, that it might be able to construct some sort of portable technology that could do so... if I had a competent biologist helping me with that end of things," he smiled, "Do you know one?" "Hmmm, let me think," Maddie. "I hear that Johnson is pretty good. Not as good as me, but I'm not sure you can afford me. Are you sure you could make something like that work?" "I do not see why, due to the fact that the brain runs on electrical current, that an outside telepathic assault could not be blocked. I, unfortunately lack the biological knowledge to make something like this work. However, we might be able to find something that could help... if you're interested. It would at least cut down the number of drugs that would need to be pumped into our systems," stated Engtamn. Maddie smiled. "You know what I like about you," she said, "we both think along the same lines. It's definitely worth the effort, and we certainly have a few telepaths to try it on. Why don't we get started after lunch." ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Corridor near Conference Room - Research Scientist - Doctor Engtamn-Jensi  - 1008) ====================================   Engtamn listened to Maddie's suggestion that they begin work after lunch. She seemed interested in the prospect and he was fairly sure that together they could at least partially solve the problem without resorting to a gigantic cybernetic helmet of some similar silly thing.   "Yes, that would be acceptable. I do believe that it would be possible. Even if we could ensure a way that they don't have to use as much of the proposed drug it would be... more pleasant. For now, where should we lunch?" asked Engtamn taking her mention as a suggestion. He did not believe in any romantic attempts, as it became clear early on that Maddie was more interested in the same gender of her species. However, he did consider her a good friend and believed they could work well together. Engtamn also found that the business helped get his mind off other things.   "By the way... I've received word from Grazer about my crimes," stated Engtamn very quietly.   ==================================== (USS Boudicca-Turbolift-CONN/OPS Lt. Victoria Sevant-1008) ====================================       Standing in the turbolift, Victoria paced back and forth.  She was the only person preoccupying the lift at the time, and she was deep in thought about the current mission they were embarking on.  She hated seeing her husband so distressed in times like these, however she knew he had no other choice, and she supported him for that.  Like him, however, she too was required to embark on this mission.  After all, she was in the line of duty as well.       Feeling the sudden jolt of the turbolift stopping, she stopped her pacing and awaited the doors to open, reavealing the open area of the bridge. ==================================== (USS Boudicca -Conference Room - CSO- Dr. Maddison Munroe - 1009) ==================================== The wrods came out of EJ's mouth and hit Maddie like a bucket of cold water. They'd had plenty of time to discuss the matter. Killing someone, for any reason, was a near unthinkable act on the Grazerites homeworld. He had submitted himself to them for their ruling on the matter, and neither of them had been looking forward to the results. On top of that, they'd become close, friends even. They shared a common bond, other than science, even if the bond was pain and torture. She'd heard snickerings that she'd finally been brought back to the light and had a male interest. She simply just enjoyed his company, and knowing that there was nothing else between them made her at ease with EJ. Holding her breath she looked at them. "Oh EJ," she said as softly as he was speaking. His voice told her a lot but she had to hear the words. "And what did they say?" ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Corridor near Conference Room - Research Scientist - Doctor Engtamn-Jensi  - 1010) ====================================   Engtamn regarded Maddie for a moment. It was doubtful he'd tell anyone else, it would be in the personal area of his service record, but would not be something he'd volunteer. The result of the previous mission had cost Engtamn more than he ever wanted to acknowledge and still, he was happy that he had saved the life of the being standing beside him as well as his own.   "It would seem, that the ruling was... predictable. I'm glad I am a Federation citizen, otherwise I'm afraid I would be at a loss as to where to go during shoreleave," came Engtamn's reply with the surest smile he could muster. Engtamn had been expecting it and despite the fact that he'd downplayed the development, he knew that no Grazerite would ever have voluntary contact with him again... and if they did come across him, he would be considered an offworlder. In one sure stroke, the Grazer Council had rendered him without existence on his home planet. He no longer was. Engtamn felt a bitterness rise in him at this thought, but suppressed it, had it happened to anyone else, he would have supported the ruling. He was now a man without a home and without a family. No siblings would speak to him, not even his parents. His messages home would go unanswered.   (Reply Maddie)   Engtamn looked upon her for a second, his eyes glazing, furiously trying to keep 'cheerful' and not fall into the dispondency that he surely felt. "Well, now I can try a few more Federation games, I've always wondered about Paresi Squares, it was deemed by the council to be too violent, now their edicts don't much matter. I wonder if this is how President Jaresh-Inyo felt after his term came to an end."   (Reply Maddie)   "Most Federation citizens don't know how his term ended... at least when he came home to Grazer. The council met, someone had complained that the reaction of Inyo of declaring Martial Law when they believed that an invasion might take place was violent and caused violence in word, action and deed. Further, they said that because it involved the entire Federation his crime was very grave. The council decided that his infraction was in a different category due to his responsibility to the entire Federation, but he still lived the rest of his life in desgrace, shunned. He died, 152 years old, with no one acknowledging his accomplishments on the part of the Grazerite people. And some wonder why so few Grazerites join Starfleet and leave the homeworld," Engtamn sighed. He remembered his family's reaction when Engtamn had declared he thought that Jaresh-Inyo was the greatest Grazerite hero ever, he was sure they felt that Engtamn's current predicament was not a surprise when linked to that declaration. ==================================== (USS Boudicca-Bridge-CONN/OPS Lt. Victoria Sevant-1010) ====================================       Stepping out onto the bridge, she noticed the same crew as usual at their stations, hard at work on preparing for the mission.  Passing a few of them, she gave them a curt nod of her head as she then stepped down off the step and headed straight towards the junior officer in her place.  In with her line of direction, she passed her husband, Caladryll, and gave him a sideways glance.        ::Good morning love::  She sent out to him.   <>       Suppressing a grin, she put a hand on the back of her chair, letting the junior officer know she had arrived and could take over the position.  As the officer got up and gave her a small report on the systems, she then left, leaving Victoria to man the powerful ship once more.       Taking a seat, she pushed a couple of buttons, getting the feel of driving the ship back under her belt.  Everytime she sat down, something was always different, if even by a micron.  Feeling the deck plates vibrate softly under her feet, she once again felt like she was in control, and went about her morning systems analysis.   ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Bridge - Capt Sevant - 10:10) ==================================== Sevant stepped onto the bridge and moved his way down the ramp way to the center seat, where Commander West already sat after having been dismissed from the meeting. He waved his hand as the Commander began to stand, he had no intention of staying on the bridge-proper for long. "Report." (reply: West, any) Sevant took the duty-log from the bridge yeoman as West spoke and activated it. He took a breath once the commander was done and tapped his badge, "Bridge to all Department Heads, there will be another meeting at 12:30 in Conference Room 2." (reply: Dept Heads) NRPG: This is just the senior heads now, something quick and easy. I'll find a way with Casely to get Sevant in touch with all of you directly during the Stratops meeting later. RPG: "Is there anything else, Commander?" (reply: West) Sevant closed his eyes when the turbolift door opened and a very familiar being stepped onto the bridge. He opened them again and continued scrolling the log when he felt a light touch on his mind. ::Good morning love:: Sevant stiffened briefly and lifted his head. He still hadn't gotten used to her re-arrival, their would-be status, or anything of the sort. The few times they had gotten together had proven that he was at war with himself in regards to her. He nodded briefly to her and then went back to reading the duty log. "Very well Commander, you have the bridge." ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Bridge - Commander Trevan West- 10:11) ====================================   Sevant stepped onto the bridge and moved his way down the ramp way to the center seat, where Commander West already sat after having been dismissed from the meeting. He waved his hand as the Commander began to stand, he had no intention of staying on the bridge-proper for long. "Report."     "All systems up and running, sensors are clear sir, no hostiles. The Yeoman has the duty log for you." Sevant took the duty-log from the bridge yeoman as West spoke and activated it. He took a breath once the commander was done and tapped his badge, "Bridge to all Department Heads, there will be another meeting at 12:30 in Conference Room 2." "Is there anything else, Commander?"       "Yes sir, Engineering reports the cloak is now better then ever and will not be easily damaged as before. As for myself," Trevan leaned in a little closer to Sevant and lowered his voice, "I would like a moment to speak with you in private when you have a moment sir." He nodded briefly to her and then went back to reading the duty log. "Very well Commander, you have the bridge." ==================================== (USS Boudicca -Conference Room - CSO- Dr. Maddison Munroe - 1012) ==================================== Maddie couldn't beleive what she was hearing. Actually, she could believe it, she just wished that it weren't so. She covered her mouth, as she felt incappable of closing it out of shock. After all, the person that Engtamn-Jensi killed was in defense of herself. She felt more than a bit of guilt over the verdict. Suddenly she threw her arms around the Grazerite. "Oh, EJ, I'm so sorry," she cried, tears beginning to fill her eyes. "I mean, I know it was what we expected but it's still the wrong decision." She released him and a look of determination came over her face. "Don't you worry, I'm on this. We're going to get this verdict overturned. You wait and see. Your voice Will be heard on Grazer again." "Well, now I can try a few more Federation games, I've always wondered about Paresi Squares, it was deemed by the council to be too violent, now their edicts don't much matter. I wonder if this is how President Jaresh-Inyo felt after his term came to an end." She could tell he was trying hard to keep his spirits light and positive, but she was looking in his ees and could see that his heart was breaking. s However, his reference was lost on her. "I don't understand." Engtamn retold the history of one of his worlds most notorious presidents and how he came to the end of his term. But the look on his face when he finished said it all for Maddie. "He died, 152 years old, with no one acknowledging his accomplishments on the part of the Grazerite people. And some wonder why so few Grazerites join Starfleet and leave the homeworld." Maddie nodded, shot him a hopeful smile and threw an arm around him. "We'll figure this out. And you will always have someone who cares for you, and acknowledge all of your accomplishments, including one of your most important." She looked at the blank face of not understanding in front of her. "Me silly, I'll always be there for you, and so far your most important accomplishment was saving my life." ==================================== (USS Boudicca-Sickbay-CMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-10:12) ====================================       "Bridge to all Department Heads, there will be another meeting at 12:30 in Conference Room 2."       Glancing up at the chronometer, she saw that she still had around two hours until then.  Sighing, she leaned back to stretch in her chair, finally beginning to take to the new sickbay.  Then, just as she came back to head level from stretching, she saw a limping crewman coming through the doors.  ~What now?~       Getting up from her chair and helping the crewman onto the nearest biobed, she took one look at him and figured she knew.       "Let me guess, " she said, "you and the other boys were playing with bat'leths again?"       Watching the crewman roll his eyes at her, he then responded, "We're all just trying to get ready and prepare for the main event.  You know, against all these wackos out here in the universe."       Kaitlyn replied with a not to belivingly, "Uh huh."  Assessing the damage to his torso, she went for the prescribed treatment.       "As usual...no broken bones, just bruising and a few lacerations."        The crewman nodded his head and knew what Kaitlyn was going to ask of him next, so he did so without her having to say a word.        Coming back with a hypospray, Kaitlyn noticed this was starting to become a routine.       "You know, you keep this up and pretty soon you will be able to take over my job..."   ==================================== (USS Boudicca -CSO office - CSO- Dr. Maddison Munroe - 1012) ==================================== Maddie had been sitting in her office, going over some research into the development of a telepathic society. She didn't realize how unique cultures like the Betazoids were. To be telepathic, and remain in a state of order, was a marvel. She was interrupted by a call on her comm. Badge. =^=Bridge to all Department Heads, there will be another meeting at 12:30 in Conference Room 2.=^= She looked at her chronometer and sighed deeply. "Just swell." She tapped her comm. Badge. "Acknowledge." Then she sat back and tapped her badge again. "Munroe to Engtamn-Jensi, I'm afraid I'll have to cancel, or postpone our lunch date. I have to meet with the captain and other department heads at 1230." (reply EJ) "Thanks for understanding EJ," she said. "I'll see you after." She looked back at her computer screen, and the image of the earlier meeting shot through her mind. ~Great, I wonder who's gonna get knocked out this time? Maybe they can knock me out and I can get some sleep.~ Shaking her head she turned back to her research. ==================================== (USS Boudicca-Sickbay-CMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-10:25) ====================================        With Stolev hanging over her shoulder, she was getting increasingly nervous, almost as if she were trying to pass her exams to be a doctor all over again.  She hated having people look over her shoulder, but she knew why he was doing it.        As she ran a tricorder once more over Isengard, she determined the same things as she'd determined during Straton's scan.  Sighing, she put the tricorder down and turned to Stolev.        "Both of them seem to be fine.  I've done extensive scans of their telepathic centers and they've just been overworked and taken a beating.  Other than that, the main thing they can do now is just to rest.  This hasn't effected any other part of their brain functions, although if it would've continued any farther it might have."  Scowling at the both of them like she were their mother, she continued.  "If you want to take them into custody now you can, or you can wait until they wake up.  It's your call."   <>        At his reply, she watched as security came to retreive the sleeping bodies of Straton and Isengard.  ~They won't be happy when they wake up.~         "I'll let the Captain know of my findings.  Until then..."  She watched as Stolev nodded in her direction and went out the door with her medically released patients.  Sighing, she then tapped her commbadge.        "Mackenzie to Captain Sevant.  I wanted to let you know both Straton and Isengard are going to be fine, and that they have been taken to the brig under Stolev's watch."   <>        "Yes sir, Mackenzie out."  Closing communications, she looked around at what was going to be..or was...her sickbay.  She stopped for a moment as she cleaned the beds they were on and thought about just how many cases of this she would have to treat in the future since they were going into a part of Doenitz's forces with telepathic capabilities.         Frowning, she thought for the first time about how lucky she was not to have those abilities.   ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Sickbay - TAC/SC Lt. Cmdr. Stolev - Day 1 - 1026) ==================================== Stolev watched anxiously as Mackenzie conducted her scans of the two injured telepaths. He still didn't understand exactly what had happened in the conference room, but right now he was worried about both Eva's condition and the overall impact this incident might have on the ship's ability to fulfill her mission. Eventually, Mackenzie put her tricorder down with a sigh and turned to Stolev. It's your call." Stolev hoped his relief wasn't overly visible, although he regretted what he had to do next. "Captain's orders were pretty clear, they're to be in secure lockup until he can question them. I'm afraid I'll have to take them." He then nodded to the two security officers who had joined them in sickbay; they moved forward to pick up the still-unconscious bodies of Straton and Isengard. "I'll let the Captain know of my findings. Until then..." Stolev nodded to the CMO, then jerked his head towards the door, indicating to the two officers that it was time to leave. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Ready Room - Capt Sevant - 10:28) ==================================== =^=Mackenzie to Captain Sevant. "Keep a watch on them until they wake up." ==================================== (USS Boudicca – mess hall – LT john Fredericks CEO/2O - 10:11) ==================================== John was just chasing the last of his eggs around the plate when he heard Sevants’s voice over his comm. Badge. Bridge to all Department Heads, there will be another meeting at 12:30 in Conference Room 2. Rolling his eyes upwards for a second John taped the badge and replied. “Fredericks, acknowledged”. “Well”, he said while turning to look at his assistant. I was going to start this but if you wouldn’t mind, I want a level three diagnostics ran on the ships secondary back up systems. Later I want to check the primary’s as well but I want to be sure the secondary systems are in good shape first. (Reply Mathew) NRPG: Mathew, disregard this if you are in the middle of something already but let me know if you do mctrog007@hotmail.com RPG: “I guess I need to get back to the office and start the reports I will need for this meeting”. John stood and interlocked his fingers palms out and stretched setting off the rapid popping of knuckles. John then turned toward the door and headed back to main engineering. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Main engineering - ACEO LTJG Matthew McLaren - 1106) ==================================== Matthew slid back into his chair behind an engineering console. He had just returned from recalibrating a sensor pallet and had spent the last half an hour in a cramped crawlway. So it felt good to stretch out again now that he was back in the main engineering centre. Running a level 4 diagnostic on the sensors he found everything to be in working order once again. Picking up a padd off the console, he ticked off the sensor recalibrations. He scrolled down to the next item and groaned. There were some minor power fluctuations down on deck 21 which meant he would have to spend the next hour or so crawling through more maintenance tubes. ~What inspired me to become an engineer again?~ ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Main Engineering - Weapon Systems Specialist, Warrant Officer Jerral Revan - 1115) ==================================== Jerral walked into Main Engineering, and headed towards the Chiefs office. It wasn't his first day on the ship, although he hadn't been there for that long, but it was one of his first on Alpha shift. When he had been transferred to the Boudicca, he had been assigned to Gamma shift, and his job tended to keep him stuck in the bowels of the ship, crawling through tubes and such, so he hadn't really ever met the Chief Engineer. Jerral walked up to the Chief's officer door, and tapped the chime, waiting to find out if the chief was even in. ==================================== (USS Boudicca,CEO office Main Engineering –John Fredericks LT CEO/2O – 11:16) ==================================== John was seated at his desk working through the never ending pile of paperwork, PADD’s and other reports that always seemed to overwhelm his desk. It wasn’t that he disliked paperwork, forms, PADD’s and such. He just wished it didn’t always seem like for every one he took care of there were two more to take their place. It was like dealing with Tribbles. Just as he was thinking about shredding the whole mess the door chime sounded. “Come” he called out glad to find a reason to think about something else for a while. A fair skinned man walked in. Although he was dressed in engineering colors Fredericks had not seem him around before. Running through the list of people in the dept that he hadn’t had a chance to meet he came up with a name. “Ensign….Revan I believe”? John motioned to a chair across from his desk. Have a seat, I don’t stand on formality down here unless circumstances demand it. What can I do for you”? ==================================== (USS Boudicca, CEO's Office - Warrant Officer Weapon System Specialist Jerral Revan - 1117) ==================================== "Ensign….Revan I believe"? John motioned to a chair across from his desk. "Have a seat, I don't stand on formality down here unless circumstances demand it. What can I do for you?" "Actually sir, technically I'm a Warrant Officer, Fleet Personnel keeps listing me as ensign by accident, I've already submitted the paperwork, but apparently demoting me is the least of their worries," Jerral said with a friendly smile and a chuckle as he took the seat that was offered. (Reply Fredericks) "One, I wanted to introduce myself. I was on Gamma shift previous to this, so I haven't had the chance to introduce myself," Jerral said. "Secondly, I just finished the hands on inspection of the aft quantum torpedo turret," Jerral said, offering the report to the CEO, inwardly wincing after seeing the desk already full of PADDS. "Everything was fine, I fixed some regular wear and tear on the tube seals and the loader, but everything else was as expected, sir." ==================================== (USS Boudicca - COUNS Office - COUNS - Lt. (JG) Brian Rogers - 1217) ==================================== "...so, then my father slapped me and told me I'd help him run the farm but I ran away and joined Starfleet!" the Human woman said, crying loudly. Brian sat across from her, sitting in a chair, his legs crossed, typing away on a PADD as fast as he could has he wrote down everything she said. "At the exam, the... the... the admiral who welcomed us called me up to the table and... and said that... my father sent him a subspace message and.... oh BAHHH!" she moaned has once again her supply of tears began flowing out of her eyes. Brian started typing, but an silent alert appeared on his PADD, informing him it was now 1220. He stood up and cleared his throat. "Lindsey, I'm very sorry, but I've got a very important appointment," he tried to say in a diplomatic tone. "Waahhh? Somebody is more important than me. Typical! Everybody thinks that they are..." she said, has she started crying with more intensity. Brian sighed and said, "Lindsey, no body on this ship is more important than another, but this appointment was planned some time ago, and besides, you went on duty a half an hour ago," Brian said. "Well... thats true... when can I see you again, Brian?" she said, wiping her eyes clear. "How about tomorrow at 1100?" Brian suggested, glanced at the chronometer. "Fine... I'll see you then, Lt. Rogers," she said has she stood up and scurried out. Brian put his PADD on the desk and walked out. ==================================== (USS Boudicca -Conference Room 2- CSO- Dr. Maddison Munroe - 1225) ==================================== Maddie walked into the room and looked around. She knew she was early, which was a aminor miracle for her, but she didn't expect to be the first there. She guessed that everyone else was as apprehensive of this meeting as she was. She found a seat and dropped her load of padds on the table. Then she went over to the replicator. "Iced tea," she said. It materialized on the dispensor and she brought it back to her seat. She sat down and waited for the others to arrive. Slowly her eyes started to close. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Ten Forward - COUNS - Lt. (JG) Brian Rogers - 1227) ==================================== Brian entered and looked around. He spotted a table that was distanced from the other tables where people were sitting. Ten Forward was now filling up quickly due to it being the "lunch hour". He went to the table he had targeted and said. A waiter came up to him, "What can I get you, sir?" "Just a glass of water, please," and the waiter set off. Brian rubbed his hands together under the table has he waited for Dr. Engtamn-Jensi to arrive. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - 10 Forward - Research Scientist - Doctor Engtamn-Jensi  - 1229) ====================================   A couple hours earlier, Engtamn and Maddie were midway through discussing their lunchtime arrangements when he remembered that Rogers had wanted to lunch with him. Rather than simply waste time with Rogers, Engtamn had invited Maddie along so they could discuss their current project if the counsellor was as boring as he was expecting. Engtamn didn't expect much from Rogers, it was rare that a counsellor could understand the depth of work that Engtamn was involved in. He knew that Rogers had some knowledge of medicine, which was closer to Maddie's department... although he was sure that Maddie would leave him in her dust.   The pair walked into 10 Forward and Engtamn saw the counsellor sitting there expectantly. He leaned over to Maddie and said quietly, "There he is, Mr. Famous Family Rogers."   (reply Maddie)   Engtamn shrugged and walked over to the counsellor. "Lieutenant Rogers, this is Doctor Munroe. As my time is very valuable given our current mission and we had been working together all morning and will continue to do so after our lunch it seemed practical to invite her along."   (Reply Rogers and/or Maddie)   Engtamn's eyes narrowed as he regarded the counsellor. "Now, what seems to be troubling you about wormhole physics?" asked Engtamn, attempting to suppress the condesension from his voice. He had his doubts that this little twirp was truly interested in physics and smelled an ulterior motive almost from the getgo. Engtamn affixed his resolve to its sticking point, deciding that he would not discuss personal matters with this man. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room 2 - COUNS - Lt. (JG) Rogers - 1229) ==================================== Brian entered at the last minute and took his seat, but much his relief, he wasn't the only one, has Commander Stolev was right behind him through the door. The Captain started the meeting, "This will be short, and without any of the theatrics of this morning. Status?" Brian smiled to himself. After his 'lunch' with Doctors Jensei and Munroe, he had almost forgot the theatrics (as Captain Sash put it) of the earlier meeting. Brian turned his attention to Commander Stolev has he gave his report about the security and tactical divisions of the ship. NRPG: Leaving room in case anybody wants to reply to Aaron's report. RPG: When he was done, Brian spoke up next. "I've been doing a few sessions with various members of the crew. I would say moral is average to above average, sir. Of course, a few are worried, but then again, we are at war, and on a dangerous mission. " Brian explained. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room 2 - Captain Sevant - 1230) ==================================== The Captain put his PADD on the table as he sat down, "Ladies and gentlemen." He said without preamble, "This will be short, and without any of the theatrics of this morning. Status?" ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room 2 - TAC/SC Lt. Cmdr. Stolev - Day 1 - 1230) ==================================== Stolev hurried into the conference room, as usual, just as the meeting was starting. He slid into a seat next to Drizzt and hoped that this meeting would be a little bit less exciting than the one this morning. The Captain put his PADD on the table as he sat down, "Ladies and gentlemen," he said without preamble. "This will be short, and without any of the theatrics of this morning. Status?" "Security is on schedule with preparations, sir," reported Stolev. "We have implemented extra training sessions with the holographic tactical interface, and Lt. Isengard has been coordinating exercises focused on repelling boarding parties." He glanced at Drizzt briefly, then back at the Captain. "Colonel Straton and Lt. Isengard have been cleared medically, and are currently in the brig, still unconscious." ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Ten Forward - COUNS - Lt. (JG) Brian Rogers - 1231) ==================================== Rogers waited when he noticed Engtamn-Jensi walk in with Dr. Munroe. Brian moaned quietly, he had hoped to get all he could from Engtamn before trying 'work on' Munroe. Also, he doubted that Engtamn-Jensi would make a deep emotional revelation in front of Munroe, who was his department head. They approached the table and Brian stood up has they came over. Engtamn-Jensi started by introducing Dr. Munroe, who so far he had seen only by her service record photograph and across the conference room table during the mission briefing. "Lieutenant Rogers, this is Doctor Munroe. As my time is very valuable given our current mission and we had been working together all morning and will continue to do so after our lunch it seemed practical to invite her along." "I understand, Doctor. Thank you for meeting with me. Nice to finally meet you, Dr. Munroe," Brian said has he nodded and smiled at them both. (reply Engtamn-Jensi, Munroe) Then all three took seats at the table and Brian leaned back in his seat has Engtamn-Jensi started the conversation. "Now, what seems to be troubling you about wormhole physics?" Brian coughed slightly and started, "Well, if you'll remember, when we were on Geneva, we had that mission involving that planet, anyway, on the return back to Geneva, we were stuck in a wormhole. The ship went into some sort of bizarre warp field... and everything was slow... if it wasn't for the quick thinking of Commander Casely and the quick phaser skills of the late Ensign Klars, we might all of died... I was wondering we could discuss wormholes and such..." Brian said. He now realized that his plan of using the guise of wormholes might not work according to plan... ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room 2 - Capt Sevant - 1231) ==================================== "Security is on schedule with preparations, sir," reported Stolev. "We have implemented extra training sessions with the holographic tactical interface, and Lt. Isengard has been coordinating exercises focused on repelling boarding parties." He glanced at Drizzt briefly, then back at the Captain. "Colonel Straton and Lt. Isengard have been cleared medically, and are currently in the brig, still unconscious." Sevant nodded, and then looked around the table. The MXO was next, who was filling in for Straton. "The Marines are on standing alert, we're ready." He said in an impassive voice, his eyes locked on the Captain. The Counselor was next, "I've been doing a few sessions with various members of the crew. I would say moral is average to above average, sir. Of course, a few are worried, but then again, we are at war, and on a dangerous mission. " "Excellent." Sevant said. He then looked to the rest of the department heads. (reply: The rest of you :-P) Once everyone had reported, Sevant leaned forward in his chair. "All right then." He folded his hands together, "We will need to start inoculating the crew for combat starting in the next ten hours, we will be within theoretical range of combat by then, we can't leave any of the crew open for attack. Those telepaths on the ship who believe they have the strength to withstand repeated psychic attacks without use of the drugs will report to Colonel Straton or Lieutenant Isengard for testing... once they wake up." A small shadow passed across his face as he said that, and he once again chided himself for giving Straton her head. He tapped his thumbs together for a moment in thought, "Starting 24 hours from now, all senior officers will be considered on-duty, so be prepared for that, I recommend getting a solid nights sleep tonight, who knows when any of us will get another." He pointed a finger at his CMO and Couns, "Be on the watch for anyone in critical areas, we don't need nervous breakdowns now, but it's all too likely." (reply: CMO, Couns) "Are there any questions, or concerns, with what you have heard so far?" ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room 2 - Captain Sevant - 1302) ==================================== Sevant sat back in his chair and half closed his eyes as he considered everything going on. "Mr West to conference room 2." He said. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room 2 - Commander Trevan West- 1310) ====================================     The doors to the conference room slid open to reveal the Captain sitting at the end of the table, waiting patiently as only Vulcan's can do with his hands touching each other as if deep in thought.     "Captain, reporting as ordered sir."   (reply Sevant)       "Yes sir." Trevan cleared his throat as he walked over to the adjoining chair from the Captain, "Permission to speak freely sir?"       "Captain, I am deeply concerned about you. You don't seem yourself these days," Trevan paused, "well, I agree no-one is themselves these days, you seem," he grasped for a word, "troubled.... or distracted, as if something other then the usual is occupying your thoughts. I am sure it is just my imagination, but then again, your well being is my responsibility when it comes to the operations and safety of this ship and her crew."       "I understand, but Caladryll, but I have known you for many years and I have never seen you like this. Perhaps the Doctor can look at you."   (reply Sevant)       Trevan bowed his head slightly, " Sorry sir, I apologize if I have over stepped my bounds, I thought as your friend and First Officer I would ask." The stars slipped by the windows silently, the Captain seemed to consider this last statement, however being a Vulcan, it was tough to tell.     "Sir, I would also like say that if there is something you are not telling me, Starfleet order 114 section 18 states that I must know everything you know about our current mission or anything related to the ship and crew, because if I didn't;'t know you better, I would say you were hiding something from me." Trevan leaned towards the table, supporting himself with his arms, almost appearing ready to pounce on prey. "And, if I do find out you are hiding something critical, so help you."     Trevan didn't have to finish that statement, he knew the Captain would know what he meant by it. It wasn't a threat, it was just a fact. The Captain knew how loyal he was to his duties and never questioned it.   The Captain asked if there was anything else he wished to discuss. Sevant gazed at him with eyes he had never seen in his Captain and this frightened Trevan. Sensing a possible danger, Trevan withdrew his next question. "No sir, I don't believe so. "   ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Conference Room 2 - Capt Sevant - 1310) ==================================== "Captain, reporting as ordered sir." Sevant leaned forward in his chair and gestured to one of the seats recently vacated. "Have a seat Commander." He paused, "You wished to speak to me privately?" "Yes sir." Trevan cleared his throat as he walked over to the adjoining chair from the Captain, "Permission to speak freely sir?" Sevant steepled his fingers again and nodded. "Captain, I am deeply concerned about you. You don't seem yourself these days," Trevan paused, "well, I agree no-one is themselves these days, you seem, troubled.... or distracted, as if something other then the usual is occupying your thoughts. I am sure it is just my imagination, but then again, your well being is my responsibility when it comes to the operations and safety of this ship and her crew." The Captain narrowed his eyes slightly, but that was the only physical reaction he gave to the First Officer's words. "We are preparing for combat commander." "I understand, but Caladryll, but I have known you for many years and I have never seen you like this. Perhaps the Doctor can look at you." Sevant's eyebrow quirked slightly in response to the free use of his given name. Almost nobody dared, the only one who had recently had been... but those were thoughts he didn't need right now. He pushed them aside and grunted, "I am surrounded by doctors and counselors, Mr. West." He said coldly. "A problem with my psyche or health would already be noted." West nodded his head slightly, "Sorry sir, I apologize if I have over stepped my bounds, I thought as your friend and First Officer I would ask." Sevant didn't so much as twitch a muscle as his First Officer went silent for long moments, though his mind didn't sit silent. He had a very good idea where these... concerns... were coming from. He would have to deal with it later. "Sir, I would also like say that if there is something you are not telling me, Starfleet order 114 section 18 states that I must know everything you know about our current mission or anything related to the ship and crew, because if I didn't know you better, I would say you were hiding something from me." Trevan leaned towards the table, supporting himself with his arms, almost appearing ready to pounce on prey. "And, if I do find out you are hiding something critical, so help you." The Captain didn't move for long moments as he considered Mr. West. ~Everyone is going mad.~ he thought with something approaching gloominess, there was a time that former ACEO/CEO West would never have dreamed of saying something even coming close to a threat, much less the gem he had just dropped. Even so, this was something he needed to nip at the bud. "Our plans are restricted for two reasons, both relating to security. Consider what we're about to face, Commander, trained telepaths." He tapped his fingers together once, "You will be privy to them at a later time. His jaw tightened slightly as he tapped his fingers again. "Will there be anything else Commander?" "No sir, I don't believe so." was the reply. Sevant watched him for long moments, wondering just what else West wanted to say. In the end, though, they were thoughts probably best left unspoken. "Very well then," he said evenly. "Report back to the bridge, and prepare a surprise weapons readiness test for 1445 hours. Dismissed" (reply: West) Sevant watched one of his oldest crewmates leave the room with an aire of sorrow, there was no room left for friendships, not when they were likely walking into a situation they wouldn't walk away from. But the Commander had brought something up that Sevant was apparently not dealing with well, that was troubling. And the people he would normally talk to... He tapped his badge, "Doctor Alizara to Conference Room 2." He said. ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Brig, Cell 5, MCO Lt. Colonel Eva Straton, Day 1, 1706) ==================================== Eva's eyes snapped open but made no other move. She scanned the room with her eyes, still a little groggy from the phaser blast and what ever they had injected her with. ~Brig.~ She thought, closing her eyes again. She now knew where she was. Now to determine how she was. She focused inward fighting the ache in her head and forcing herself to concentrate. To move past the pain and discomfort. To focus and asses what, if any, damage she had sustained in the short confrontation with Isengard. After a few seconds, she opened her eyes again. Her subconscious triggers had fired putting her into a type of healing trance similar to that of the Vulcan's. It was a technique used by her Order for centuries to heal themselves after telepathic combat. A majority of her injuries were well on their way to mending. The rest would heal quickly. She would be 100% in less than a day. The confrontation had been short after all. Throwing her legs over the side of the cot, Eva brought herself to a sitting position and looked out of the force field to see who, if anyone was there. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Brig - TAC/SC Lt. Cmdr. Stolev - Day 1 - 1707) ==================================== Sasha tapped his comm badge as he entered the brig, having been informed that Eva had woken up. "Stolev to Sevant. Colonel Straton has regained consciousness." (reply Sevant) "Very well, sir. Stolev out." He tapped the badge again to close the channel, then came to a halt in front of cell 5. He glanced in the adjacent cell and saw that Isengard was still unconscious. NRPG: I would think that Isengard would take a little longer to come to, since he had been assaulted unawares to start the whole thing. RPG: He watched Eva throw her legs over the side of the cot and sit up as she looked out of the force field. Sasha smiled sadly as she caught his eye. "How are you feeling?" he asked. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Ready Room - Caot Sevant - 1707) ==================================== =^=Stolev to Sevant. Colonel Straton has regained consciousness.=^= "Very well, I'll be down shortly. Sevant out." He sat back in his chair and closed his eyes for a moment. This was not going to be a pleasure. He stood up and tapped his badge, "Sevant to Captain Grailik, report to the Brig." (reply: Grailik, Stolev) He stepped onto the bridge and into the turbolift, quietly wondering just how he was going to bring the two telepaths back together. Or, even better, how he was going to deal with Stolev for nominally following his orders but going seriously over-board. It was a mess, that was for sure. Sevant stepped off the turbolift and made his way through the security procedures of the Brig without much of a thought. It wasn't until he stepped up next to Stolev and saw Straton that he so much as quirked an eyebrow. "Colonel." He said. He turned his head to Stolev, "Drop the forcefield." ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Brig, Cell 5, MCO Lt. Colonel Eva Straton, Day 1, 1708) ==================================== "How are you feeling?" Sasha asked, smiling sadly. Eva looked around the small cell before answering. "Curious," she said, looking back at Sasha, "as to why I am in here when I was only following the Captains orders. Isengard was on the brink of losing it. Sevant authorized me to 'bring him to heal'. Now, tell me, why am I locked in a cell for doing what the Captain asked of me?" ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Brig, outside Cell 5 - TAC/SC Lt. Cmdr. Stolev - Day 1 - 1708) ==================================== "How are you feeling?" Sasha asked, smiling sadly. Eva looked around the small cell before answering. "Curious," she said, looking back at Sasha, "as to why I am in here when I was only following the Captains orders. Isengard was on the brink of losing it. Sevant authorized me to 'bring him to heel'. Now, tell me, why am I locked in a cell for doing what the Captain asked of me?" "I'm afraid you'll have to ask him that; you are both here on his orders," replied Sasha. "Fortunately, he is on his way." As if on cue, Sevant entered the brig. He walked up next to Stolev, looked in at Straton, and quirked an eyebrow. "Colonel," he said. He turned his head to Stolev. "Drop the forcefield." "Aye, sir," replied Stolev, quickly tapping in the necessary commands on the panel. The doorway emitted the telltale shimmer of light as the deactivation of the forcefield caused some of the polarized particles that had been trapped within to suddenly release the excess energy they had been storing. ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Brig, Cell 5, MCO Lt. Colonel Eva Straton, Day 1, 1710) ==================================== Eva, still sitting on the cell cot, regarded Sevant coldly as we walked up beside Stolev. "Colonel." He said. He turned his head to Stolev, "Drop the force field." Eva made no other move than to narrow her eyes. She noticed Grailik arriving behind Sevant, but her eyes remained fixed on Sevant. "Care to explain why I am sitting in a cell for attempting to carry out your orders Captain," She said coldly after several minuets of silence. ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Brig, Captain Grailik, 1710) ==================================== Grailik entered the Brig not far behind Sevant. He had a good idea why he had been called here now. The two telepaths where waking up. The security guard handed Grailik back the PADD he had been carrying once he was confident it was a threat. Grailik stood back and watched the exchange between Sevant and Straton. His presence wouldn't help Sevant any with her but he stood ready to advise Sevant if he needed it. He looked into the cell where Isengard was laying still unconscious and looked back at his PADD which contained Lt. Isengard's complete Star Fleet record including medical and physiological profile. It had been very interesting reading to say the least. Putting his hands behind him, Grailik waited. ==================================== (USS Boudicca - Brig, Cell 5 - Captain Sevant - 1713) ==================================== "Care to explain why I am sitting in a cell for attempting to carry out your orders Captain," Sevant, his arms crossed behind his back, quirked an eyebrow. "When you decide to tell me how 'bringing someone to heel' requires a full blown telepathic assault that would have resulted in the death of one of you, had we not stunned you both to unconsciousness. If I'd wanted the man dead for his insolence and flagrant disregard for the telepathic laws, I would have shot him myself." His eyebrow fell flat again. "I, perhaps, did not fully consider the implications of two mammoth-strength telepaths brawling. But neither did I expect you to get into a life-or-death struggle when the mission requires both of you." ==================================== (USS Boudicca, Brig, Cell 3, Captain Grailik & Lt. Walker Isengard, 1719) ==================================== When Grailik noticed Isengard begin to stir he had the guard deactivate the forcefield to Lt. Isengard's cell and stepped inside. He pushed down one the two chairs built into the wall and sat down and waited for Isengard to finish waking. Walker pulled himself up from unconsciousness with tooth and nail, and was on his feet still half blind. He tried lashing out with a probe, but found himself blocked. He tried again with a growl, before he realized he was drugged, probably a sedative with suppressive qualities. It was then that he focused and recognized this new Captain, and it was then the pains in his body and head struck him full force. He closed his eyes again and sunk to the bunk on shaky legs. "I take it psychic attacks is standard procedure on this vessel?" he asked in a voice devoid of tone. "Not to my knowledge," Grailik said in a casual tone, "Your little show however put more than a few people on edge. The dizziness and headache will pass. You took quite a nasty fall when Captain Sevant shot you. Ended up with a concussion along with a few more bruises to add to your collection. You'll recover as will your sparing partner. Care to explain why you felt it necessary to put on that little show of yours in the Conference Room?" "Less questions get asked after a practical demonstration." Walker replied as he put a hand to his head. "Assuming that Stratops officer has half a brain in his head, he'll figure out how far that Captain is and use it as a practical range of operations." He looked up. "And I suppose you're going to tell me that putting some people on edge is cause for a full blown psychic attack followed by a stunning?" Grailik smiled. "Like I said, you put more than a few people on edge. One of those people happen to be the Captain of the Boudicca. He, I assume telepathically, commanded the Colonel to 'Bring you to heel.' I think is how it was put. Neither of them were familiar with your particular psychological profile and Colonel Straton, like you, deals in absolutes and it quickly escalated into a full blown battle of wills. Both intent on victory or death and neither willing to accept anything else. I'm sure you can see how that could be a problem I'm sure." Walker opened his eyes and stared at the man balefully. "And this is supposed to make things peachy?" He snorted and slowly swung around to lay down again. "Not at all," Grailik said, "I wouldn't dream of trying to make things 'peachy' for you Mr. Isengard. You seem to take such pleasure in torturing yourself I wouldn't dream of denying you that right. It is simply, the truth." "I will ignore the sarcasm." Walker said, still in his toneless voice. "Captain Grailik, let me be straight. Get the hell out of my cell, or let me get the hell out, I don't care which. Charge me for breaking the telepathic rules if you like, charge her for assault, or me for that matter since I retaliated. But spare me the useless drivel; I am not in the mood." "Of course your not," Grailik said, his voice unchanged. "And I frankly don't care. I've read your file, your complete file. I know all about you Mr. Isengard. From your pre-Star Fleet interest in art. The death of your fiancée to your Star Fleet career. Your long battle with depression, over the death of said fiancée, and the number of counselors you've seen because of it. I could sit here and try to counsel you, but I won't waste my time. You can't help those who don't want to be helped. Obviously, you don't want to be helped. Fine. You are still a Star Fleet Officer and right now we need you. You and Colonel Straton. To work together to eliminate this threat to the Federation. I need to know if you can do that Lt. Isengard. Can you move past what has happened and still perform your duty as a Star Fleet Officer?" Walker chuckled deep within his chest, a dry sarcastic sound, as he cracked one eye open and turned to look at Grailik. "'Move past' this and work with the same Colonel that just attacked me for no provocation and tried making my mind mince-meat?" He closed his eye again and returned his pained head to level. "A plea for help after that, I find that highly amusing." his chuckle continued for a few more moments before dying off to nothing. "You and your mission can count it lucky that I don't take kindly to innocents being attacked, which is very likely to happen if these telepaths continue unchecked. Yes, I will take part." His voice turned chilly a moment later. "But if that Colonel so much as tries to scan me, I will take her apart. There are more ways then telepathic combat to finish someone, and I will never again suffer an attack by her. And I will either succeed or die, if you learned nothing else about me from your reading, you will have learned THAT. This must be perfectly clear, or you might as well leave me in the brig and drug me." He turned his head and gave a dryly amused half-grin. "And yes, that was a threat. I feel I deserve at least one after today." Grailik didn't so much as bat an eye. One develops a very thick skin in over 6 centuries of living. "To my knowledge, Colonel Straton doesn't particularly make a habit of scanning people without due cause, so that shouldn't be a problem. The rest of the details of the truce the two of you can work out amongst yourselves. The two of you *WILL* have to work together, and that could very well include telepathically. Being esper-blind myself, I'm not exactly qualified to speak in those regards. But I do advise against another show like you put on in the Conference Room. Captain Sevant will only be pushed so much." "Noted." Walker said simply. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to bring the headache under control. Grailik stood. "You are free to return to your quarters, Lt. Isengard. I would recommend taking the rest of the night off and get some sleep. It will do wonders for your head." Walker slowly spun around, "Very well." he said before stepping out. He paused at the door and half turned, "You realize Captain, that if we're already in this shape, odds are both of us are going to die in the next few days... yes?" he turned back and snorted, "Fun." and walked on out. ==================================== (USS Boudicca -Gymnasium - CSO- Dr. Madison Munroe - 1812) ==================================== Maddie had spent the afternoon with EJ in research and contemplation, and discussion. Some of it had been heated, but mostly it had been constructive. They may have solved many of the problems that the device they'd been thinking of offered. But now the shift was over and her thoughts turned back to the captain's promise to teach her some self defense. She didn't want to feel like a complete idiot when he came to her, so she had replicated a bat'leth and took it down to the gym to "try it out." She had changed into her workout clothes and done some stretching and warming up, until she began to feel her body glow a little. Then she went over to where she had laid the bat'leth and picked it up. It was lighter than she had imagined it would be. I guess when you picture rough and gruff Klingons, you just imagine that their weapons would not only be strong but hefty. The alloy was very strong, but the weight, not so great. Holding the weapon in two hands she looked at it carefully. The four tips looked rather ominous, but since it was a beginner weapon she had made sure that they were dulled. Still, someone could do themselves a harmful injury if they weren't careful. She played around with the bat'leth, rolling back and forth in her hands. She'd watched it in use a couple of times, but never really paid that much attention to it. Then she swung it back and forth, like a sword. It moved quite easily. Then as she tried to get fancy she smacked herself in the head with the blunt side of the bat'leth. "Ow!!" she cried out and dropped the weapon, rubbing the back of her head. "Stupid thing," she said and kicked the weapon. Then she realized that she was barefoot and smacked her toe on the metal. "Owie!!!" she hollered and began to hop around the gym. "Damn it!"
