Mithrandir - CO's Quarters - CO - Captain Archibald Stakes - 2025) Archibald was reasonably pleased to see the Prime Director smile at his offer and his wife offering him an extremely warm smile as well as thanking him extensively. ~Eat that, BuPers,~ he thought satisfied. ~Inadequate projection of diplomatic activities, indeed.~ "Indeed, that is most accommodating of you, Captain, and I am truly grateful for your hospitality and the use of your pilot and craft. I will happily make use of him or her as soon as I receive an updated roster of where my top officials are, so I can contact them concerning the people assigned to the same vessels." Archibald watched Dak look sideways at his wife, displaying some diplomatic skills himself. "But not until tomorrow. I plan to spend the rest of this evening with my family, settling in to our fine quarters." Archibald nodded and looked over to Esme, long enough for his visitors to register it. "Family is important," he said to the Osiris's. "Perhaps more so than we care to admit it, or allowed to admit it. It's lonely at the top but only those that are there know how lonely it really can be." Archibald permitted himself a small sigh before turning his attention to the guests again. "But enough if that, I understand that Miss Hikaru has prepared a small buffet for you and your family in our Two-Port. A rather interesting Terran delicacy called chicken nuggets and barbecued wings, or so I am told. It will be interesting, I have no doubt of that. Miss Hikaru has a certain .... finesse for the quaint and unknown old recipes." Archibald smiled and signaled Esme to come closer so she could take the guests to the place when they were ready. (reply by Dak, Reyna, Esme, any, iyw) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (U.S.S. Mithrandir - CO's Quarters - Prime Director, Dak Osiris - 2026) "Family is important," The Captain said to the Osiris's, after gazing at his daughter for several seconds. "Perhaps more so than we care to admit it, or allowed to admit it. It's lonely at the top but only those that are there know how lonely it really can be." "How true, Captain." Dak responded in agreement. Captain Stakes sighed softly, Dak barely heard it, but in his heart he also sighed with empathy. Indeed it was a heavy burden at times to be the leader in charge of a planet or even as in Stakes' case, a starship. Dak was thinking about taking their leave of the CO when Stakes told them that a Miss Hikaru had prepared a small buffet for their family in a place called Two-Port. ~ I must familiarize myself with the layout of this ship if I am going to spend a few months aboard.~ He told himself, adding it to his long list of 'to-do's'. ....A rather interesting Terran delicacy called chicken nuggets and barbecued wings, or so I am told. It will be interesting, I have no doubt of that. Miss Hikaru has a certain .... finesse for the quaint and unknown old recipes." The Captain told them, and smiling, he signaled his Yeoman to come closer, to escort them to the Two-Port, Dak guessed. “You will not be joining us, Captain?" Dak asked as he rose and held his hand out to his wife to politely help her up from the low couch, even though it wasn't really necessary. (reply Stakes) "Perhaps we should stop by our quarters to collect our children on the way." The Prime Director suggested. (reply Esme) (U.S.S. Mithrandir - Two-Port - Prime Director, Dak Osiris & Family - 2033) Their three children had been quite excited at the prospect of an outing to the lounge for a meal. After being cooped up in a couple of rooms for so many months, to actually have bedrooms of their own (even though the boys had to share one), and to be able to leave their rooms to explore the ship at will, and now the prospect of trying something new to eat without rationing, had all three of them in a very excitable mood. It had taken a few reprimands from their Father as they'd proceeded to the lounge, for them to calm down a little. As they entered Two-Port with Esme Stakes, Dak touched her hand gently to get her attention. "Would you kindly point out Ms. Hikaru to me, so I can thank her personally for her thoughtfulness?" He asked as his two boys and girl headed straight for the food, with their Mother following close behind to keep a motherly eye on them. (reply by Stakes, Esme, any, iyw) (Posted by Sal) (USS Mithrandir - Deck 2, "Hard2Port" - ACEO Ensign (j.g.) Elith Rejal - 2101) The ACMO maneuvered her way towards her fellow ensign, "Good evening Ensign." Ava smiled, doing a far impression of the last time their paths crossed. "How did your meeting with the FO go?" ~So, she remembers.~ "It went well. Commander Okita is very polite, more so than many other Starfleet officers I've encountered, no offense, of course." "Better than mine then," Ava smiled up at the imposing man, "Why don't you come over and join us, Lani and I are just catching up...." Elith looked back to Hawke, who didn't seem to notice his absence. He was more focused on consuming his "Evasive Manuvers", whatever that was. ~It would be rather rude of me to abandon him, even though he's very drunk.~ Elith turned back to Ava. "I apologize, I'm afraid I won't be able to-" "Tosh! I won't take no for an answer, come on." Ava then linked arms with Elith, much to his surprise, and led him back to the table. ~What is going on now?! First it's drunken Hawke, now this?~ He looked down at his glass of kanar. ~At least I've still got this.~ They reached the table, and Elith said to Lanista, "Er, hello." (Reply Lanista, Ava, Hawke, any) (Posted by Matt Kirk) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mission Wagon Train Amongst the Stars Stardate 2408.06.21 Day 15 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< (USS Mithrandir Ready Room CO - Captain Archibald Stakes - 15:32) Archibald narrowed his eyes as the ensign's speech degraded almost to the point that it became hard to follow. Yet, at the same time the sounds seemed to resonate within him, as if he had heard the sounds before. He looked sideways at his computer where her file was still showing. He scanned it to see if any mention was made of her speech problems. Yet he still listened carefully whilst she managed to explain her reasonings, or what he considered where her reasonings. The rolling r's made it especially tricky to keep following the thread of the conversation. "Simple changes I 'av mastered, height, size, all minor and of not much consequence. So you see it isn't like I can shust pick a random shape or species and shift, sair. Also, you may know dhis of course, we also have involuntary morphs when sensing danjair or ... attraction." Archibald nodded thoughtfully when he thought he noticed the beginning of a blush on her. He wondered if it was a Chameloid reaction to the thought of partnering or some other taboo that he may have inadvertently mentioned. "I vould also like pairmission to shift when running my holodeck relaxation program. You should have a registered copy and its approval in my file if not I can supply one. I shift easily to the species I use within dhat, othervise the only other time I typically 'av only shifted width friends during our free time." Archibald noticed a slight improvement in speech and he nodded. "You are welcome to contact our operations department for booking of the holodecks. You may appreciate that with only two holodecks there may be a waiting list. I am afraid that without an arboretum, the holodecks are the only way to leave the confines of this ship. Even if it is into a fantasy world. However I would recommend discussing this with the ship's counsellor as he can deem visits to the holodeck to be more important if required to maintain one's personal development or cultural heritage." Archibald looked at the Ensign and mused for a second. "Ensign, I must inform you that I place great value on correct and appropriate usage of Federation standard. I could not help but notice your usage of a local dialect and I will expect you as an officer to do your utmost to ensure that that will not affect the dealings with your fellow crew. You may appreciate that the Federation is a mixture of many races and without a common ground this can only result in friction and resentment. Both of which I will *not* tolerate on my ship. I hope I have made my position clear, Ensign." (Reply Martzia, rfm) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (USS Mithrandir - Ready Room - CO - ACSO Martzia - 15:33) Martzia listened to the Captain and took in his every gesture and move. Most people did not have an issue with her accent in fact very few federation members ever mastered federation standard. She remembered her Hamalki friends and their consternation with the vowels all together. "Sair, never has my accent been an issue in communicating with anyone, however, I understand your concern." She knew it only flared at times of excitement, angst, or ... well other highly emotionally charged times. She had intentionally slowed her speech but couldn't get rid of the accent entirely. ~Is he not use to using odher languages?~ She questioned to herself. She herself had a horrid time of not picking up and mimicking others accents on top of her own. "I vill, will, endevair to improve. " She stated finally. "I will also visit the areas you av suggested, including dhe counselor." She continued to sit, anxiously waiting to be dismissed. ~The Captain's office might be nice someday in the future, but not now.~ She stood. (Reply, Stakes) (Posted by Ber) (USS Mithrandir - Corridor in Jr.O Qtrs - ACSO Martzia - 1600) Standing outside her quarters Martzia pressed in and acknowledged her private security code. She was pleased with the placement of her quarters. She was the first berth on the outer starboard hall, mid ship. It would make easy access to the recreation room but a hall away for quiet. She finished her coding process and entered. There didn't seem to be anyone present her things had been placed in the center of the room a signal for the absence of a roommate. She sank into the comfortable chair at the next to the table. She removed her private com device and keyed in the request to play the latest postings for her. Professor Weiner's voice came on requesting her thoughts on his latest equation, she downloaded it into her PADD for further study. Dr. Ainsel confirmed the acceptance of her Thesis at the University, and her forthcoming degree. It would of course be acknowledged by subspace. Fine with Martzia, she ignored such things anyway. Bubbe was sending good luck signs. She scrolled through several more. She noted that her father had sent a message, she opened it excitedly, passing up the other four or five other ahead posts of it in the queue. Music started slowly and then eventually blasted the air, there was no text or video just music. Everything was understood. Music had often been a way for them to communicate. It is how he had convinced her to trust him when he found her hiding on Starbase 12. She laid her head back and smiled then laughed softly and rocked her head. "Ani Ohei v'ata Avi, you alvays know what will make me and feel goodt and know dhe exact type of sounds to send." She said out loud as if he could hear her and no response was needed. She lowered the volume, only slightly, and listened but couldn't sit still; it just didn't lend itself to inaction. (nrpg: music below) She stood, looked around, and pulled a long jeweled cigarette holder from a hidden pocket and rolled it between her fingers. That meant business. She popped it into her mouth, bit down, and started unpacking. The jewels sparkled as she moved to the music, placing small things in various places and adjusting others. Suddenly in the middle of her work, the desk computer panel beeped, it announced a physical had been scheduled for her with a McGregor at 1620 hours. Giving her just enough time, she grabbed her gear and headed for a sonic shower; next would be bite to eat. She exited the shower, dressed and checked the chronometer. It was getting to close to the time for her appointment. She walked to the replicator in her room, "Black Calamata Olives, stuffed width feta cheese." Looking around she called to her PADD, "Music off." She grabbed up her snack and ran out of the doors headed for Sickbay. (posted by Ber) (USS Mithrandir - Corridors 4 & 3 - ACSO Martzia - 1615) As the door shut to her quarters Martzia walked to the wall map, "Show sickbay." On the screen appeared a diagram of Deck two with sickbay at the bow. She turned and headed for the turbo lift, entering she called, "Deck three" and felt the gentle movement. She exited and began her stroll through what would become her new home. She spent the next 10 minutes ticking off and memorizing every lab and station as she strolled the corridors. There were not many people out in them this time of day, but soon it would be shift change. So she headed back to the lift and started on her way to Sickbay. She cringed and bit her piece a bit harder then put it away. ~Mus'nt make a bad ferst impression now should vhe.~ (USS Mithrandir - Sickbay - ACSO Martzia - 1618) Sickbay was actually quite busy, a bustle was going about. She stepped through the entry and caught the first nurse she could. "I am here to see a Dr. McGregor please." The nurse wordlessly pointed in the general direction of a doctor in the far corner of the sickbay area. Martzia didn't have anything against doctors like some she had known, some of her best friends were Doctors, although not the medical types. She grinned. She used to have loads of fun with Dr. Bekele on the Dartmouth she would just hang out after classes. That is where she learned to develop human internal organs and structure by studying his files; that was now her most comfortable structure and a part of her efforts to be fully human. Otherwise, she just really didn't need the medical types for the most part. "Hello, I am Ensign Kosman. I was scheduled for a 1620 hours physical." Martzia glances at the chronometer and saw she was still five minutes early. "Is dher somevhair I should vait?" (Reply, McGregor) (Posted by Ber) (USS Mithrandir - Sickbay - Acmo Ensign(jg) Ava McGregor - 1620) "Hello, I am Ensign Kosman. I was scheduled for a 1620 hours physical." Martzia glances at the chronometer and saw she was still five minutes early. "Is dher somevhair I should vait?" "Good to meet you Kosman, I’m McGregor." Ava looked around her, there was not a free bio bed. She knew the sickbay was full, plus they were right in the middle of the vaccination programme. The way things were going Kosman was going to have to wait a good sight longer than five minutes. "Tell you what, my office, it’s through there," Ava pointed in the direction with an almost smile, "I'll be there in a minute." As it was a minute turned into ten before Ava managed to get away. She breezed into the CMO's office which was hers until they got a cure for Dr Nymes. The acting CMO made right for the replicator, " Right, first things first, coffee or do you prefer something else?" (Reply Martzia) Once the pleasantries were out the way Ava took a gulp of her coffee, and set it down with a sigh. Sitting on the edge of her deck she fished out the medical tricorder from her pocket and activated it, "This is going to be a quick once over I’m afraid," She scanned the Chameloid where she sat. Obviously pleased that nothing showed up she stored the results and pocketed the tricorder again. Next the blond doctor produced a hypospray from another pocket in her over jacket, explaining as she did so, "We're doing a ship wide vaccination programme, anti viral, nothing to worry about. Do you mind?" Ava asked as she slipped off the edge of the desk. (Reply Martiza) The hypospray hissed as it injected into the side of the Chameloid’s neck. Satisfied, Ava changed tacted and asked with obviously sympathy lurking just beneath the surface "How did your interview with the captain go?" (Reply Martiza) "About as well as mine then," The smile turned into a sympathetic nod, ~I beat he did not accuse her of cheating or threatened to finish her career!~ From the seemingly bottomless pockets over her medical over jacket Ava produced a swab, "Last thing, I need to take a fresh DNA sample for your record and then you’re done." Snapping it open, Ava brandished the swab, "Just open wide..." (Reply Martiza) "There, all done!" Ava resealed the swab and it disappeared back into her pocket as she settled herself back ont he edge of the desk and took up her mug of coffee in both hands, "That's you unless you need anything else?" (Reply Martiza) (Posted by Jodie) (USS Mithrandir - CO Ready Room - AOPS/CONN Barnie Jonathon "BJ" Stone - 1700) BJ piled out of the courier shuttle with a duffel bag strapped to his back and towing behind him a small grav-cart with two footlockers riding on the cart. He found a place to store his gear temporarily and then used his PADD to trace a path to the CO's ready-room, which was on deck 1. Everything in the last three weeks had been a whirl-wind of gathering and prepping for his first assignment aboard the USS Mithrandir, a Nova class starship. BJ spent two days shopping for gifts and poggy-bait, sending letters to family and friends, spending a last night out with friends from the academy, gathering up and packing his effects, and then pumping friends and acquaintances for any information on the Mithrandir and her crew. Another two and a half weeks were spent jumping from courier shuttle to courier shuttle as he made his way to the Mithrandir. BJ caught the lift to deck 1 and found Captain Stakes' quarters without any problems. He ran his fingers through his red hair one last time. ~relax man - I want to start out on the right foot here,~ BJ thought to himself. BJ tapped the chime and spoke into the microphone/speaker. "Sir, Ensign Stone reporting for duty, sir." (Reply Captain Archibald Stakes) (Posted by Mike Barrett) (USS Mithrandir - Ready Room - CO - Captain Archibald Stakes - 17:04) "A brave man once requested me" "to answer questions that are key" "is it to be or not to be" "and I replied 'oh why ask me?" Archibald sighed as the voice from his computer continued singing. He could somehow, very, very remotely, understand that he was to brush up on otherworldly culture to assist him with his so-called lack in diplomacy but he could not fathom the reason why he had to be bombarded with silly sounding sounds from an era a long time ago when Earth was not so peaceful. "...and you can do the same thing if you please." ~Not very likely,~ Archibald thought with a mental sigh. The song had been melancholic but somehow it didn't fit. In fact, the outspoken advertisement to kill oneself when things became too much for you was defeatist. You just didn't do that, at least not in Archibald's mind set. And he hoped in no-one else's on board either. That would be ... problematic. "Computer stop!" he barked when the song started anew. He sat in his chair, staring straight ahead, contemplating the mad lyrics. "The sword of time will pierce our skins It doesn't hurt when it begins." he mumbled then stopped and considered the words. He felt there was actually a decent saying in there somewhere but he was at a loss what it exactly was. Archibald sighed again and inspected his computer. ~Doctor Hunnicut? Was he the composer?~ he mused when he noticed a set of names next to the song title. Hawkeye? Pierce? Hmm... Pierce sounds a bit more like the proper name of a composer.~ Suddenly Archibald's thoughts were disturbed when his annunciator chimed. =/\= Sir, Ensign Stone reporting for duty, sir.=/\= Archibald touched the button on his desk in response. "Enter, Mister Stone," he spoke into his desk microphone and quickly brought up the personnel file that he had received three weeks ago from BuPers. A quick glance just to remind him of the main points in it and he rose from his chair, his hand extended for a shake as the new Ensign entered. "Mister Stone, welcome on board. Take a seat." Archibald returned to his chair and set down, gesturing the officer to take a seat on the sofa as he started studying the file again, but only to show that he was otherwise engaged and that it would be foolish to disturb him now. "I trust you had a pleasant enough journey, Mister Stone." he started as his gaze shifted to the Ensign. "I see that you have had extensive contacts with the Free Trader Society and spent much time with them. Let me advise you, Ensign, that you will find service and duty on board this vessel utterly different. We adhere here strictly to the rules and regulations that you have sworn to uphold. An oath that I will endeavour you to fulfill. I pride myself on running a tight ship and you will do best to remember that." Archibald nodded. "Your position on this vessel is in my opinion of crucial importance. Operations is the main department on any Star fleet vessel and this ship will not be different from that. You will be in constant limelight, Ensign, which you may consider a blessing but most officers consider a curse. there will be nowhere to hide. I hope you will be ready to take up the heavy burden." (Reply BJ, room for more) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (SS Wanderlust - Civilian Secttor 44 - ACEO Ens/SG Lanista - 1926) Lanista was walking alongside Ens Soma. She had a hunch she didn't like being restricted in their movements any more than Soma seemed to. Soma's concern was obviously Security. Lanista just didn't like rules she had not had a hand in making. A shocked little civilian approached then, saying, "Please, Sirs," he said quickly. "You must help=2 0me. My sister..." but they were quickly ordered back away from the 'Fleeters' by someone shouting "Hey! You! Get back here, NOW!" Ensign Soma handled it with, "Is there something you would like to say to me young man? I am Ensign Ben Soma of the USS Mithrandir, this is my colleague Lanista." The blueshirt was unsettled by Soma's involving himself. From Lani's perspective, the blueshirt appeared to look on the Starfleet uniform with disdain. Lanista, for her part, decided to further unsettle the blueshirt by leaning downward over him, emphasizing her height. She could assist Soma in taking charge here by implying she was his Enforcer. (SS Wanderlust - Civilian Secttor 44 - ACEO Ens/SG Lanista - 1928) "I'm sorry, but I am breaking this up. This man has no reason to be here, in fact his presence here could easily lead to dangerous situations as he has never been aboard a ship before. That is why the civilians are required to remain within the sectioned off sectors. And that is exactly where he is going back to. We've kept our eyes out for this one. Nothing but trouble, this one. He has been trying to get out before. And since he is a danger to himself and other it is my task to return him back to safety and I will do that. Right now." His hand grasped the man's shoulder and he started pulling and pushing him back towards the main entrance as he nodded towards the Starfleet officers. "Sirs," he said, barely acknowledging the Starfleet personnel. "Tell me again, WHY are we helping these people?" Lanista said to Soma. (Reply Soma) (SS Wanderlust - Civilian Sector 44 - ACEO Ens/SG Lanista - 1931) "Whether you like it or not I will find out what this young man wanted to tell me. As for you labelling him a trouble maker, I will make that distinction for myself." Ben said as he caught up. Lani' followed along with long strides making the effort an easy one. She intended to position herself between the blueshirt and the direction he was trying to move in with the civilian - but that quickly proved not to be an option. It was difficult to see if there was any real wrongdoing on the part of the blueshirt or if the man was simply doing his job. "Perhaps if you would allow Mr. Soma here to speak with the civilian, we could help you resolve the matter," Lani said, trying to sound more Vulcan than Klingon. (Reply Malak, Soma) (SS Wanderlust - Civilian sector 44 - ATac Ensign Ben Soma-1940) "....................................Too bad that neither the Chief or the ship's Master will allow for restraints to be used................." Ben wasn't sure if he had heard the security officer correctly or not. Restraints? What kind of barbarians were these people, and how much trouble could the young man have gotten into to warrant such a punishment. Surely even the Klingon's had given up that method by now, except for the treatment of prisoners perhaps. Ben could recall his mother reading him stories about knights and kings where prisoners were restrained in dungeons in Earth’s ancient history, surely they were beyond that now. When they entered the doors the blue shirt gave the young man a shove, the little fellow almost fell as a result. Again Ben had to restrain himself from grabbing the officer and breaking his arm for his treatment of the civilian. Clearly these people needed a few lessons in how to differentiate between common criminals and civilians and how to treat them accordingly. Ben merely gave him a look of disapproval and watched him take up position next to the door after he yelled at the young man to stay put. Ben walked over to where the young man was and quietly said, "Are you injured, did he hurt you in anyway?" (reply civilian) Ben sat next to the young man and began to ask him about what he had said in the corridor."You mentioned something about your sister out in the corridor, has she been mistreated or injured by anyone on this ship? What was so important that you sneaked out of your designated area to search for help instead of asking the officer present here for help?" (reply civilian) (posted by Milo) (SS Wanderlust - Civilian sector 44 - Civilian Lang Durean -1943) "Are you injured, did he hurt you in anyway?" Lang looked up in confusion at the Star Fleet officer and massaged his shoulder. His gaze met the gaze of the security officer and read the warning in it. He shook his head before staring at the ground. " 'S nothing," he said softly. "They ...... 's nothing." "You mentioned something about your sister out in the corridor, has she been mistreated or injured by anyone on this ship? What was so important that you sneaked out of your designated area to search for help instead of asking the officer present here for help?" Lang suddenly looked up at the security guard and pushed himself off the ground. "Not here," he said as he grunted and rubbed the spot where he had landed on when thrown to the ground. Looking at the ground he started shuffling away from the doors, returning to his designated sleeping berth, as if he had finally admitted defeat. Of course, it was all a show for the guard as he was now convinced that all they wanted was to keep things quiet. Of course, with the mistake that they had made, that was really not surprising. He slowed near a corner in the corridor and looked around for any more blue shirts. He made a point of not looking at the officer but halted and said under his breath: "Margena Durean. We all lived in our parent's apartment in Shellagan, but I had to go to the city to register for a new job. Whilst i was gone, an earthquake erupted which tore Shellagan apart. It was only a small village and when I was finally allowed to go there, there was nothing standing anymore. All houses where obliterated and they scanned all the rubble and found my father and mother's bodies as well as a third young female body which they couldn't identify. They concluded it was my sister and I was sent back as the lone survivor of the village. They shipped me off to some camp and put me on the list for transport and assigned me a space on this freighter." Lang fought back the tears. "Then, on the day that I was to board the ship, someone knocked on my door. It was Margena! She explained that she had left the village to get some supplies in town and was knocked out by a tree branch when the earthquake came. When she came round, she tried to get back to the village but was taken away by some idiot, who thought she had to be rescued and took her to Kalo, the port in the south. She had been told that there were no survivors so she didn't resist. But then she met someone in the port town who told her that I had been seen and she came back to find me." Lang fell silent for a second. "As I was just about to get on board we went together and I explained to the guards that she was my sister and that she had survived but they said that she wasn't on the list and that there wasn't a place reserved for her and that they didn't have a space for her on the ship. So she was told to wait until she could board another freighter. I said that I wanted her with me and that she was the only living relative and that she could come and share my space but they said no, that it wasn't allowed and that it was all regulated, with food and stuff. So I said that I would wait with her for the new ship but then Margena said that I should go and she would be ok. She hugged me and pushed me and I ....." Lang fell silent. "And I went. But then a day later I heard that this freighter was the last one that took people on board and I checked this ship and she isn't on it! They left her behind! All because she isn't on a stupid list!" Finally Lang broke down, sobbing. (reply Ben, any) (posted by Adrie Geuken) (SS Wanderlust - Civilian sector 44 - ATac Ensign Ben Soma-1950) Ben followed the young man as he headed away from the guard at the door. Whatever he was about to say he didn't want anyone to hear. It seemed that he was putting on a show for the guard, making it obvious that he was retreating to some other part of the sector. As they approached the corner the young man slowed and looked around, Ben assumed he was looking for other security officers who would try and interfere with what he had to say. Ben would do whatever was in his power to hear what it was, obviously it was very important to the young man. When he felt comfortable that they would not be interrupted the young man mentioned a name, Margena Durean. As it turned out she was his sister who he was told was dead, having been killed in the earthquake that also claimed the lives of his parents as well as the other villagers. This was a situation Ben understood very well, he too had lost his family to an unfortunate event. The young man continued his tale, clearly shaken by it. Ben felt slightly outraged that no one had paid any attention to the young man before. It was possible that was only a front, but Ben didn't think so. Continuing his tale the young man told Ben that his sister had found him, also saying she was told her entire family was dead. Then he explained how they were again separated when it came time to board the freighter. She had not been on a list for the freighter and had to wait for another, he said he too would wait but his sister insisted that he board. He tried to find her again but had no success, when he mentioned that he finally broke down and began to sob. Ben placed his hand on the young man’s shoulder as a gesture of comfort and support. His sister could not have been left behind, she was on one of the freighters in the convoy. He would find her and do what he could to reunite them. Softly he said to the young man, "Mr.Durean, I will enquire as to the whereabouts of your sister Margena. I can make you no promises, but I will try and have you reunited with her on this freighter or another." (reply Lang, iyw) Ben tapped his communicator and said, "Soma to Mithrandir. Check the manifests for the convoy and see if there is a Margena Durean onboard any of the freighters. She was separated from her brother who is worried about her. He believes that she may have been left behind." (reply Mithrandir) Ben sat next to the young man and awaited a response from the Mithrandir, with a little luck he would soon have some good news to share with him, and maybe arrange to have her transferred here. Olorin Okita - 1000) Olorin sat at his station reviewing the latest sensor data. It was mildly disturbing to see how sporadic the sensors had become once they had entered the expanse. While they had expected it and the science department had been working on the issue, Olorin could not imagine a normal starship entering this area of its own free will. As it was, the Mithrandir was feeding its own sensor readings to the ships for the fleet to bolster their own navigation systems. Olorin watched as the ships in the fleet blinked in and out on the screen he was observing. The disturbances made the ships seem like twinkling stars. The three runabouts were being used to ensure the fleet continued in formation and assisted whenever a ship wandered too far afield. He took out his flask and took a drink. The blinking screen was starting to give him a slight headache and he rubbed his temples. He replaced the flask in a pocket in his coat and he then retrieved a rice ball. He munched as he considered the problem. Olorin was deep in thought, when a shrill voice shouted, "Lieutenant!!! Lieutenant!!! Lieutenant!!!" He closed his eyes and gathered his thoughts, as he thanked the fates that his was not the body that was being sought. He opened his eyes to find the Logren tugging at the security chief's sleeve eager to show her something. The security chief looked in his direction and he simply nodded, as she was dragged off the bridge. (Reply Any) (posted by Kaweo Kanoho) (SS Bernard - Emergency Medical Ward - Civ. Cyril Connelly - 1200) Cyril hated ships. These tin cans were so cold and the transfer had not gone smoothly. You couldn't tell what time of day it was. This freighter kept dim lights all the time. The gloom seemed to grip Cyril like python and its prey. His head was in his hands as he wondered how they were going to last two more days let alone two whole months. He looked up and to the bed beside him. The sleeping form seemed to be resting, for which he was thankful. They had left New Eden for good just two days ago and already he missed its warm sun and the soft grass. But it had been months since he had been able to enjoy those comforts. His youngest had fallen ill soon after the announcement was made that they were abandoning the planet. The evacuation then took precedence, as his girl's symptoms had seemed minor initially. For Cyril though the symptoms hadn't seemed minor. And he worried. It was his nature to worry. Something his wife had argued with him endlessly. She accused him of ignoring the rest of his family, but he couldn't see it. And so when the first evacuations were announced, she left with the other children. But he would not abandon his little one. His wife was afraid that the planet would collapse faster than was being publicly said, but their daughter could not be transported at the time. And now here he was with her on their way to a new home. And new hope. Travelling in a dark tin can, Cyril tried his best not to appear despairing while she was awake. But these days those hours were growing fewer. Ava and her small but illustrious medical team had been working flat out since the convoy had jumped to warp, leaving the doomed New Eden to the destructive powers of its natural satellite. With Dr Nymes life frozen and saved in stasis the pressure had been increased on the medical department. Yet over the past couple of days they had managed to vaccinate every crew member and had locked down a virus that had the potential to be devastating. On top of that they had under their management and care the New Eden ICU patients. Three of which as of 0700 hrs this morning had been downgraded from critical to serious, they were in fact, getting better. As acting CMO Ava had liaised heavily with the chief of medicine from New Eden. The professor and his staff were split between the four freighters the colonists were crammed into and were doing sterling work themselves under conditions that could hardly be described as ideal. Now that they were settling down into some resemblance of routine Ava had thought it prudent to invite the Professor over to the Mithrandir for Dinner. He had accepted with his normal enthusiasm and charm. Ava had rapidly developed a soft spot for the white haired man. He reminded her in a weird way of home, and that could only be a good thing. However the dear Professor had seized the opportunity to visit the federation ship with both hands and had invited his entire senior staff to accompany him. Not a problem, Ava could handle that, she was her mother’s daughter after all. Lillian had a knack for entertaining unexpected guests her father had more often or not forgot to tell her were coming for dinner, or worse, staying at the family home. But now staring at the screen of a rather disgruntled Captain of the SS Anemoi Ava was starting to wonder what exactly she had gotten herself into. "Look it’s not as if I actually want an invite to your shindig. But I have rank, I'm the captain of the ship. If there is socialising to done I'm damn well going to be on the invite list." "Captain I..." "The Professor was shocked I had not heard from you. I've asked about, I’m not the only Captain you've ...overlooked. “The Captain of the Anemoi interrupted pointedly, glaring at the young doctor with righteous indignation. Ava's shoulders slumped she knew instinctively this was not a battle she was going to win. "Captain I can only apologise, this dinner seems to have grown arms and legs of its own and I've been a little slow in making sure everyone who is everyone gets a proper invitation." "Damn straight." "I'll rectify that immediately of course." "I'll look forward to your invitation then Doctor," The captain smile was thin but still mollified as he cut the connection. "Yes, where exactly is my invitation?" The LMH was standing in the doorway to her office, leaning nonchalantly on the door frame, arms and ankles crossed. Ava ignored that."What are you doing here? You’re off duty." "But its sooo much fun here since you took the reins, i can't find the strength of will to drag myself away." He was mocking her again, the LMH seemed to take perverse enjoyment in that. "Fine," Ava stood and smoothed down her uniform."Since your happy here I'm heading out for a while, you have sickbay." The LMH stepped out her way flourishing a bow as the young doctor swept passed, (USS Mithrandir - Deck 02, "Hard2Port" -Acmo Ensign jg Ava McGregor - 10:10hrs) Entering the lounge the doctor headed straight for the bar and ordered her regular coffee and mid morning apple danish. There were only two people on this ship that could help Ava with the problem she found herself lumbered with. One was Mei Ling "Is Mei Ling around, could I have a word with her?" Ava asked the bartender as she slipped up onto the bar stool and thankfully reached for the beverage she was highly addicted to. After the first hot sip she sighed and tapped her Comm badge, "Ensign McGregor to Petty Officer Stakes. Yeoman if you have moment could you join me in hard2port please." (Reply Esmeralda/Mei any) (Posted by Jodie) (USS Mithrandir Two-Port Bar Manager Mei Ling Hikaru and Yeoman Esmerelda Stakes - 1020) Esme looked around as she entered Two-Port (she couldn't even allow herself to think of it as 'Hard2Port' in case she called it that in front of her father. He would, she felt, disapprove) and spotted Ava sitting at the bar with a mug of coffee in front of her. As she approached the ACMO, Mei Ling came out of the kitchen and headed towards Ava too, taking off an apron as she did so. The two of them arrived beside McGregor at almost the same instant. "Hi Ava, you wanted to see me?" Mei Ling said with a smile just as Esme said, "Here I am, Ava, what's all the mystery?" (reply Ava) "Before we start, let's find a table. Beltan, please bring a pot of real coffee, and a plate of pastries over will you?" Mei Ling grinned at Ava and Esme. "It seems to me that we could do with something nice to eat and drink if we're going to be planning something. That *is* why you called us both here, isn't it, Ava?" she asked, her eyes twinkling. (reply Ava ) The three women sat down together at a table next to a large mural. Esme waited until Beltan had brought the coffee and pastries, and Mei Ling had poured the coffee, before she turned to Ava. "So, how can we help?" she asked. (Reply Ava, any) (Posted by Liz)
