BJ behind the OPS-console, a new flight officer behind the conn position, wearing blackened sunglasses, Korn behind the science console. They all received a curt nod from him until his look rested on Olorin. "Commander," Archibald said with a nod. Okita took the hint and said to the CONN-officer: "Mister Schliegler, take us up, but slowly. We don't want to treat the people on this planet to a cloud of our exhaust gases." The officer looked back at the Commander and nodded. "Piece of cake, Sir." he said before he keyed in the required commands and the ship shuddered once before slowly lifting off the ground. Archibald followed the proceedings on the view screen and when they had finally left the outer atmosphere of the planet, he nodded. "Set a course for Starbase 28, Crewman. Maximum cruising speed." "Course laid in, Sir." "Engage," Archibald said as he leaned back in his chair, feeling the padding  shaping itself to support him, a feeling that he had missed for a long time. He cleared his throat. "I thi...." he started but was cut short by a comm signal. =/\= Hikaru to Captain Stakes. Now that we are underway and we have little tasks to perform I would like to suggest that we start a team building exercise.=/\= "A wonderful idea, Miss Hikaru." Archibald commented. =/\= Great, then I can put you down that you will participate? =/\= "Of course!" =/\= Great, thank you, Captain! Party in Two Port at eight this evening, then! All who can to attend. And formally no formal wear! Okita, can you pass the word around?=/\= Hikaru quickly closed the link before Archibald could object and he eyed the Commander to see if he was in on the plot. (Reply by all, any) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (USS Mithrandir - Quarters - ACMO Serranta - 1000) To say the ship was small was an understatement. In fact, Kyah was pretty sure that the ship she had come out to New Eden on had been bigger than the Mithrandir. She surveyed her room once more, grateful that she had made the decision to not bring many personal items with her. ~anymore stuff and I wouldn't have anywhere to sleep~ The tiny room was attached to a similar sized bathroom which was shared with the quarters on the other size. She had no idea who the adjoining quarters belonged to, and wasn't in any hurry to find out. She couldn't make friends with anyone. How could she? They would be becoming friends with her sister, or rather a poor representation of Amara, not Kyah. She could only imagine how they would feel if they ever found out the truth. Kyah could feel her chin begin to wobble at the thought of it and the lump in her throat grew so large she struggled to swallow. For the next 3 months she would have to be...... ~ a recluse? No, it’s not what Amara would do, but I can't let anyone get close to me~ She suddenly felt claustrophobic in the tiny room, and had to get out of it. Hoping she wouldn't run in to Roger anywhere, Kyah decided to head off to investigate Sickbay. As her door slid open, she found herself face to face with the last man she wanted to see. "Hey sweetie! Fancy bumping into you! I've been looking for you for ages!" Kyah stifled a groan. She had been doing a good job of avoiding him, but knew that now they were confined to a small ship that would be next to impossible. There was nothing left to do but to end whatever sort of relationship it was Amara had with him, however difficult that was going to be. Although the corridor appeared empty, this wasn't going to be something she wanted overheard. Kyah stepped further back into her room, allowing him to enter. She stayed just out of his reach, causing him to frown. "Roger, look this isn't easy and probably not the best place, but........" ~I've never had to do this before~ "I think it's......well I think it's probably best if maybe we don't see each other anymore. Or rather, not as a couple type thing. I'm going to be busy, and so will you I'm sure, and um........ it's really for the best."  She found herself holding her breath. Roger stared at her incredulously, before bursting into laughter. "You're joking right? Good one Amara! You almost had me going there." He made a move to put his arms round her, and Kyah took a quick step backwards. "Roger, I'm serious. I really do think it best. " There was a moment where he stared at her, mouth slightly open before a look of rage crossed his face. "After everything I did for you, you treat me like something you'd scrape off the bottom of your boot!" Kyah looked at Roger, trying to hide her confusion but having a feeling of impending doom. "What do you mean after all you did for me?" Roger ran a hand savagely through his hair and snorted. "Oh come on, Miss Primadonna. There was no way you would've passed your exams with the amount of partying you were doing, if I hadn't helped you. And for what? You let me believe we had some sort of future!" Kyah knew the shock she was feeling was showing on her face, but couldn't help herself. "You helped me?" This time Roger laughed derisively. "Cut the innocent act sweetheart, it doesn't suit you. I must've been a total idiot to believe that I meant anything to you. I was just someone to help you cheat in your exams. If it hadn't been me, I'm sure you had others lined up more than happy to take my place." Kyah found her legs were beginning to wobble, and she sank against the wall, while Roger continued. "I have to admit, you had me fooled. There's only one thing stopping me from reporting you for cheating, and that’s the fact that I'd go down with you." He gave her once last scowl before turning on heel. As the door slid open, he looked back at her. "Good luck sweetheart, and keep looking over your shoulder. You'll get caught eventually, liars always do, and I hope like hell I'm there to see it." (reply none) (posted by Wendy - not Ken) (USS Mithrandir, Ready Room, CO, Captain Archibald Stakes, 11:22) "Yes, Mister Takano?" Archibald asked as he looked at his screen that showed a middle-aged Asian man in a Star Fleet Academy Instructor livery. The Asian cleared his throat, evidently not too comfortable. "Thank you for accepting my call, Captain, and I can assure you that I would not have called you if I didn't think it important. You know that every year we take a number of recent graduates and review their Academy progress and results so we can improve our teaching." Archibald nodded. "Well, during the last review we stumbled upon some test-results that ...... uhm, how to say it, might not be up to scratch. You see, this then-cadet gave answers which were text-book quality. Now in itself that is not surprising, we have had many cadets who do that on a regular basis, studying the textbooks by heart and it shows when they respond to questions. But they are consistent in their approach in that when they give textbook quality answers they keep on doing it. There may be an exam or two where they do not provide those quality answers but they are limited in number. The other way around does not happen, or at least very, very occasionally." He shot the CO a short, almost apologetic, smile. "Yet, this cadet, who never gave textbook quality answers before, not even for her stronger subjects, suddenly gave a whole list of them on her final exam. And we consider that very ..... peculiar." "Peculiar?" Archibald asked slowly. "Uhm, yes, quite so. We are of course looking into it to find out if there is any proof of wrong-doing but we thought it best if you received a heads-up." "Why me?" Archibald asked, his eyebrows raised, sure that he probably wouldn't like the answer. "Well, this cadet was assigned to your ship after graduation, Captain. A Miss Amara Serranta, medical class." "I know her," Archibald said slowly. The Asian Lieutenant nodded. "It would be helpful, Captain, if someone could keep an eye on her whilst she is performing her duty. As I said, we can not take definite actions until we have some concrete evidence of the perpetration, but on the other hand we would not want Star fleet officers to come to harm in the time it will take us to get confirmation." Archibald nodded. "That makes sense, Lieutenant. I will arrange it. Keep me updated on the progress of the information." Takano nodded quickly. "Of course, Captain. Our thanks. But it will be for the best. We apparently haven't treated the Serranta family too kindly." "Meaning?" "Her sister, Captain, her twin-sister, in fact. A Miss Kyah Serranta. Her results were reviewed as well. But for her it turned out that some of her answers had been marked too stringent. Just enough to change her fail into a pass. A narrow pass but a pass none the less. We are now trying to locate Miss Kyah, to arrange for her to receive her graduation. But no luck so far." Archibald looked at the instructor and shook his head. "Really, Lieutenant?" he remarked. "Anyway, I hope you will succeed in finding this ... Miss Kyah. I'll arrange for some eyes. If there is nothing else, Lieutenant?" "Uh, no Sir, Again thank you. Goodbye." The screen turned dark, leaving Archibald in a contemplating state. (reply none) (posted by Adrie Geuken) (USS Mithrandir – Hard2Port – a20/OPS BJ Stone – 1443)   BJ and Telleenal had finished eating and were enjoying the company of the new crewmember Jynea, MeiLing, and Tommy. Telleenal was trying to get Tommy to toss a peanut or two in the air so she could try to catch them in her mouth.   As the adults were bantering back and forth BJ noticed another new face coming into Hard2Port. A tall ensign, maybe 6’1” or 2” came strolling in. He paused for a moment to look over the local watering hole and then came up to BJ and while extending his hand with a smile he said “Hello, my name is John Korn.”   BJ grinned back and as he shook John’s hand he said “Hi John, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m BJ Stone and I serve as the chief of OPS and have most recently been shanghaied into wearing a second hat as the acting 2nd Officer aboard the good ship Mithrandir.”   BJ then made introductions for the people gathered near one end of the bar. Pointing to the beautiful Eurasian woman behind the bar BJ said “John, may I introduce to you the Manager of Hard2Port, the lovely and most culinary talented, Miss Mie Ling Hikaru. Next to my daughter,” BJ continued while moving his hand toward the dynamic duo of Tommy and Telleenal, “is Mr. Tommy Tucker, a near and dear friend of my heart. Of course, sitting next to Tommy is my beautiful daughter and the apple of my eye, Telleenal. And, like you,” BJ continued as he moved his hand towards Jynea, “making her first acquaintance to our oasis amongst the stars, the most stunning Miss Jynea Kreung, our good ship’s Moral Officer.”   BJ paused dramatically and then with a smile to Tommy and the ladies he said “It is my pleasure to introduce to you Ensign John Korn, a new serving officer of our good Ship Mithrandir who, if I’m not mistaken, is our new Assistant Chief Science Officer, right?” BJ asked questioningly at the last part of his introduction while looking back at John Korn. He had remembered reading the changes in crew and was pretty sure Mr. Korn was with the Science Department.   (Reply any in Hard2Port iyw) (Posted by Mike Barrett) (USS Mithrandir – Hard2Port – Ensign (sg) Jynea Kreung – 1445)   Jynea had *not* been sneaking Tommy cookies. She wasn’t quite sure why he was so eager for fruit, but she’d decided that any mischief maker as eager for something as him probably shouldn’t get it. She’d have to try and find someone she could trust to figure out the truth about the bar monkey. She’d also managed to not eat a bite of her sandwich which incorporated freshly (ew) washed (ew) greens. She was worried that the turkey had actually come from a creature that was hidden in the back of the prep area. It was probably clucking and eating worms or something back there wonder why it was missing a chunk of itself while some chef with a doctor’s license patched it up for the next customer silly enough to order a turkey sandwich.   She was very amused by BJ’s dramatic introductions, “It is my pleasure to introduce to you Ensign John Korn, a new serving officer of our good Ship Mithrandir who, if I’m not mistaken, is our new Assistant Chief Science Officer, right?” BJ asked questioningly at the last part of his introduction while looking back at John Korn.  He had remembered reading the changes in crew and was pretty sure Mr. Korn was with the Science Department.   (Reply Korn)   Jynea shook her head as she continued the ‘snatch the cookie back’ from Tommy, managed to miss my millimetres as the cookie ended up in his possession. “Keep that up Mr BJ and I shall be out of a job. Hired and fired on the same day would look terrible on my record.”   (Reply any) (Posted by Lorna) (USS Mithrandir, Sickbay, Lieutenant jg Sanok, 1651) It was common knowledge that doctors believed a person in a coma could, at some level, hear someone close by, speaking to them.  For this reason, Sanok had been spending time in sickbay at his friend's bedside, his friend, Ben Soma. Ben enjoyed studying martial arts, especially the Samurai history of ancient Japan.  Sanok had searched through the computer database and downloaded into a PADD, a novel written by Stephen Hunter, The 47th Samurai.  He had been reading it to Ben. "Asano had written: I wish I had seen the end of spring, but I do not miss the falling of the cherry blossoms. "Asano knew what was important: the end of spring, his duty; the falling of the cherry blossoms, the emptiness of ceremony.  Then Asano had plunged his blade into his stomach and drawn it cleanly across the midline of his body...." Sanok was interrupted by a call on his comm badge from Lieutenant Stone." =^=Greetings, Mister Sanok.  I've just repaired the door to the armory, but for the initial password, it always seems best if you punch it in from the keypad.  Do you have time to come to the armory and enter a password and set up the initial security parameters, or would you like me to set up a temporary password and hook up with you later?=^= Sanok paused before responding.  It was his responsibility to meet with Stone to set up the password and parameters, so he should go.  However, he had spent little time today reading to Ben, so he felt he shouldn't leave his friend yet, especially at this part in the novel.  Ben was probably waiting to here the rest of the chapter! He glanced at the time, then tapped his comm badge. "Mister Stone, I will meet you at 1715 hours."  He closed the channel and looked at the PADD to find his place. "Asano had plunged his blade into his stomach and drawn it cleanly across the midline of his body, cutting entrails...." Sometimes he thought Lani knew what was going on aboard the Mith before stuff even happened. ~I’d kill to know how she does that~ he thought to himself.   “Hey Lani! Everything seems to check out fine with the new door and keypad. I’ve just comm’d Mr. Sanok to see if he has time to set the initial security parameters up. Captain Stakes was informed and the bridge crew was in the process of gathering data and checking out the rest of nearby space around the tiny ship. "On screen."   BJ prepped a message informing Starbase 28 of the Mithrandir’s current plans to investigate the small yacht and that there would be a slight delay in their schedule. He took the liberty to append the ship’s log and information on the new contact to the report and then sent off the message per Captain Stake’s order.   As soon as he’d finished sending off the message BJ tapped his combadge to prep an Away Team for boarding the yacht.   “The following department personnel are to report in ten minutes to the Transporter room as part of an Away Team to investigate a derelict Gorde’an pleasure yacht: Lt. The last couple of Away Teams BJ had been on had been lead by Sanok. Having Sanok with him should help insure he didn’t do anything brain-damaged.   ~It’ll be a good idea to have Sanok’s experience on my first time as lead.~ BJ thought to himself. BJ paused for a moment, trying to think if he’d missed anything and then he smiled to himself. ~Oh yeah – maybe if I share the layout of the yacht with everyone – that might help.~   BJ called up the schematics of the small yacht from the ship’s database and then, after taking a moment to familiarize himself with them, he dumped the layout of the yacht to the PADDs of the Away Team members. It was a small yacht with three levels. Level one was small and had only the ship’s bridge and a small observation lounge. On the second level was a large commons room, four large luxury rooms (two to the front and two to the rear) and another large room used for dining. Attached to the dining room was a fairly normal sized kitchen area. The third floor was set aside for engineering, had a small medical room, and access to the small yacht’s computer, sensor suit, and navigation array.   Before BJ left the bridge he paged Lt. Johnson to take over the OPS Console and then, with a nod to the Captain, he left the OPS station to make his way to the Armory on deck one prior to heading for the Transporter room.   (Reply Lt. Due to this, Elith was in the ACEO's office - as Lanista was on temporary leave, Elith saw no need to move to the CEO's office - watching over the ship's condition while eating dinner. Life for the engineers had resumed its usual slowness and they were all thankful for that, including Elith. ~So far so good. A few words here, a smile there, an offer of technologically incompetent help, carrying, carting, and generally just being cute and harmless.  It had been two days before she'd discovered she was the only counsellor aboard. Again. She had decided she better get her ass up to the bridge a few hours of the day and was surprised to see the Captain in the hot seat and only one chair available other than his. Maybe counsellors weren't usually assigned bridge duty on the Nova? Or they were just kicked off on the shifts were both FO and Captain were serving. Or maybe they carried a fold out chair with them, how should she know, she wasn't trained to ever see the bridge. She gave the Captain a smile before taking the empty chair, she was deliberating what she was supposed to say to him when the he decided to go investigate a stranded ship. She was amused that it was hardly the 'by the book' procedure. Maybe the Captain wasn't as starch and linen as he liked to portray himself, which would certainly make her happier to serve here. Which wasn't to say she wasn't still working on her transfer request. She was reading her way through crew files when the Yeoman appeared. She had to wonder how the girl remained working for her father when it was a clear conflict of interest. Jynea gave it a mental shrug, if they were both working well with it, she wasn't going to interfere. "Hope those security personnel weren't based on the holo-marine matrix," Jynea observed wryly. (Reply Captain, any on bridge) (Posted by Lorna) (USS Mithrandir, Bridge, Lieutenant jg Sanok, 1826) Stakes said, "Starfleet Research won't be pleased if they found out we changed the programming of the trial models. On the other hand, it should show the versatility of the general concept.  Okay, you have my permission, but Mister Rejal is to give the final approval, unless, you have an issue with this, Mister Sanok?" "I have no objections," said Sanok.  The truth was, that he and Ben had never liked the whole concept of holo security.  For all he cared, they could be reprogrammed permanently into waiters. Not wanting to interrupt them, she stood just inside the door and hoped it wouldn't be too long before the rest of the Away Team joined them. ~and hopefully someone with more knowledge about the Gorde'an than I have~ (reply any) (posted by Wendy Gibson) (USS Mithrandir-Transporter room.-ACSO Ensign (j.g.) John Korn-1827) As he entered the transporter room there were already two figures the aCEO and a medical ensign. ~I didn't know she was on this mission.~ (reply any) (Posted by Edgar Alik) (USS Mithrandir, Transporter Room, Lieutenant jg Sanok, 1828) Sanok stepped into the transporter room and saw that everyone except Stone had arrived. "Doctor," said Sanok with a nod to the new medical officer, who was waiting quietly just inside the door. "Mister Korn," he said to their other new arrival.  Rejal was in a discussion with the transporter chief. Before coming to the transporter room, Sanok had stopped at the armory and equipped himself with two hand phasers and a tricorder.  Placing them at the end of the transporter console, he went to the storage locker and grabbed an EVAC suit and helmet.  He turned to face the others. "Please get an EVAC suit and get ready to board the yacht." (Reply any in transporter room) (Posted by Bob)
