Darm had mentioned a third associate and implied Lanista would meet them later. She felt a bit like Scrooge in that Old-Earth classic merchant minding his own business only to be interfered with by three HoSDo'. ~It is a shame I cannot slay them,~ she thought while thinking of how the Klingons of old slew their own deities, and of how much gods were like ghosts. (Starbase Geneva Deck 127 - ACEO Lanista 1100) The ACEO of the Dennison for less than a week had dropped the Esme-knife off at her short-term accommodations. There was little point in returning to her work on repairing less-than-acceptable parts from storage between now and the party, which was roughly a day and a half away. Of course, the 'repair' project was just Lani's way of keeping herself busy, and quite frankly it was something she expected to have to stop if told to cease. The maQmIgh spacecraft on Deck 82 would have to wait. So it was with great enthusiasm that Lanista accepted an invitation to a "pick-up" game of an ice-rink sport with a group of SF Marines. The competition was called Ha'QI' from what Lanista was able to make out. This was a Human activity evidently invented as a excuse to brawl using bladed footwear and blunted halberds. Lani' thoroughly enjoyed the game even without having learned any of the actual rules. (Starbase Geneva Deck 82, DryDockks/Docking Ports Ensign Lanista 1215-1320) While there was still no real time to work on her experimental 'missioncraft' this day, Lanista was convinced the basic design of the Ha'QI' halberd could be (vastly) improved. She set about doing so. Human Ha'QI' sticks were made of wood or similarly unsuitable material. The weapon of the goalkeeper was the largest, so Lanista chose it as the model. The goalie's weapon could have a knob on the non-blade end, which to Lanista's mindset meant the spiked sphere (the moQ) like that on a Daqtagh could be placed there. Of course, on a polearm such as this, the ball should be larger and have more heft to it. Standard implements of Ha'QI' had 63-inch (160-cm) shafts. Lanista manufactured the shaft of her custom halberd to be scaled more to her own height. The blade, though beveled, is not sharp on the normal stick (even thought those on the footwear are). This seemed to make little sense. The finished blade's dimensions (after scaling adjustments) were 45 cm long by 13 cm across. Lanista had completed the new weapon when she was summoned, at 1320, to assist Ops personnel in reconstructing two shops after a fire on the Promenade. There was a transporter one deck above! Not wasting time to stow the Ha'QI' stick, Lanista moved with long strides to the turbolift and thence to the transporter on Deck 81… And from 1321 hrs to 1400, Lanista participated in clearing debris from and repairing damage to areas of the Promenade. The finished specialty item Lanista had just constructed was similar to the 'aqleH, the time-honored weapon of the Clerics of Boreth. And it proved to be a useful tool in Lanista's work. (Starbase Geneva Promenade - Ensign Lanista 1500) By 3 o'clock in the afternoon, Lanista had heard about the missing Sanok, and she offered her assistance in the search. There were, of course, already 150 officers searching. However, Lanista had several advantages of those other officers, and she enumerated them to those involved in the 'hunt': To begin with, Lanista was possessed of greater stamina than most humanoids. She could search for days without food or sleep if need be. Secondly, she was armed with her 'aqleH, which had already proven to be of value. Lastly, Lanista had the PADD-corder she had invented on the Dennison. With this enhanced scanning and data processing device, augmented with regular inputs from the station's own considerable information-gathering capabilities, Lanista was sure she would find Sanok first. (Reply any in search) (Posted by FT) (Starbase Geneva, Unknown Location, Ensign jg Sanok, 1500) The man with the welding torch approached Sanok.  Even with his face covered, Sanok could tell he was looking forward to what he was about to do.  It was now or never. Though Sanok's hands were securely tied behind him, his captors had foolishly neglected to bind his legs.  When the torch man got close enough, Sanok struck, hitting him squarely in the stomach with a snap kick. The man cried out in pain, collapsed and lay motionless, the torch tumbling through the air and clattering to the floor, its blue flame scorching the floor. Sanok tried to free his hands before any of the other captors reacted.  Unfortunately, he could not.  With shouts of anger, two men were upon him, pummeling him with their fists. Lashing out with kicks, Sanok struck one of them, sending him reeling.  The other kept pounding him, and everything around him began to blur. Another man, Sanok wasn't sure if it was one he had kicked or someone new, joined in hitting him.  Unable to fight any more, Sanok heard the Voice yelling to his men to make sure they didn't kill him.  After that, everything went black. (Reply Any) (Posted by Bob) (Starbase Geneva -Deck 25-Promenade-ATac Ensign (jg) Ben Soma- 1505) Ben had just listened to a crewman recount what he had learned about Sanok entering the lift, it seems an Andorian had seen Sanok enter that lift as he had left a nearby shop. He was about to access the stations logs when his commbadge alerted him to an incomming message, =/\=Ensign Soma, status report?=/\= Came Lieutenant Shrekt's voice. "I am currently tracking Sanok’s movements from Deck 25, he was seen entering a lift before 1400. I found cellular residue that matches his profile. I was just about to access the logs to find out what deck the lift stopped at. So far the other teams have not found him, they are checking each bio signature as indicated from the briefing." Ben replied. (reply Shrekt iyw) Ben brought up the logs for the time Sanok entered the lift and browsed through the findings. The lift had dropped Sanok off on deck 50. Ben entered the lift with his team and sent the lift to deck 50 with hopes of finding more clues to Sanok’s whereabouts. (Starbase Geneva - Deck 50-ATac Ensign (jg) Ben Soma- 1510) Ben stepped out of the lift and began scanning the area for Sanok, there were no Vulcan biosigns in the immediate area.  Ben indicated for his team to spread out and canvas the deck for information. After a few moments some of the team had checked in and reported that no one had seen his colleague. Ben knew by now that Sanok was in trouble and had to be found quickly. He didn't want anything to happen to his friend, he thought if only I had insisted on staying at the scene I could have prevented his disappearance. It was also probable that he would also have been taken along with Sanok. Time was now the enemy and they had to work faster. Crewman Michaels approached Ben and reported that someone remembered seeing a Vulcan leaving the lift with a couple more people, it appeared that the Vulcan was ill and the others were helping him along. The individual was unable to provide a direction or a description as it didn't seem like an illegal activity at the time. Ben thanked Michaels and told him to keep looking. (reply as above/any) (posted by Milo Young) (Starbase Geneva - Deck 62, Security Center - Crewman Morgan Randell - 1510) Morgan had heard of Sanok’s disappearance and the resulting search. He wanted to help so he headed off to the security office to see what he could do. He never met Sanok personally but he had been an officer aboard the Dennison and for that Morgan felt a slight connection to him. His stay on the Dennison had been brief and he had spent most of his time in engineering and very little time socializing with the crew, but if any of them were in trouble he was going to do whatever he could to help out.  When he entered the office he saw Lieutenant Shrekt manning the station so he walked over towards her and said, "Lieutenant, I would like to help search for Ensign Sanok. What can I do to help?" He noted the name of the ship, the USS Mithrandir.  The name rang a bell with him, but he couldn't for the life of him recall why, so when he accessed the Starbase Library systems to pull up the records, he was not very surprised to find that the ship was currently docked at the main births leading from Deck 76.  So he had decided to leave the Engineering Mess and take a walk down to have a look at her. When he arrived at the viewing platform for non-authorised personnel, he was uncertain what to think of what he saw.  ~A Nova~ he had thought, recognising the shape of the craft from pictures he had seen.  It was massively different from anything he had ever thought he might serve on, and although it was closer to the size of ships his own people built and piloted, he wondered what wonders were held within its bulkheads. Despite his initial reservations, Markra decided that it might be a good challenge to serve onboard a ship like this, so he turned on his heel and made his way back to his quarters with the full intention learning more about the vessel. (USS Mithrandir - Ready Room - CO, Captain Archibald Stakes - 16.51) Archibald closed his computer screen when the door slid open and Okita came in. Archibald narrowed his eyes for a second, remembering what he had just read. he wondered what the significance was of the long coat that the Commander was wearing. "If you'll still have me, sir." Okita said, as he stood at attention. Archibald looked at the man and gestured to one of the seats opposite his desk. "Have a seat, Commander," he said as he flipped his screen back up. The CO waited for Olorin to comply, before continuing. "I believe I should tell you, Commander, that I have received a communique from Starfleet Personnel. They have voiced strong reservations regarding one of my requests. In short they commented that the person in question was past it and that while he or she may have been an asset once, they believe that he or she has missed his or her chance. They were especially critical of his or her attachment to his or her previous commanding officer. While it is considered good to have strong bonds between the command team, they also expect a clear distinction between the two top officers. They felt that with him or her and the CO, this distinction was disintegrating." Archibald licked his lips before continuing. "The assessment of BuPers is normally spot on. If they have concerns regarding the placement of a member of crew then any CO would do best to heed the warning." The CO changed his seating slightly and looked at the Commander. "Never the less in this case I told them to 'stuff it'. Any captain won't be much of a Captain if he let others do all the thinking for him. And there are cases where BuPers have been wrong. But I have read that CO's report on her First Officer and I take her word over anyone else's. She did the time, she has all the required experience. And her record shows her to have been an extremely capable Captain. And that is good enough for me. The job is yours, Commander." (Reply Olorin) Archibald shrugged, then got up and smiled. "That will do, Mister Okita. That will do nicely. But now I believe we have a meeting to attend. (reply by Olorin, any) (Posted by Adrie Geuken) (USS Mithrandir - Deck One, Briefing Room - ACEO Lanista - 1721) Once he had finished with the Operations officers, Olorin said in a whisper, "Ensign tlha'nISta', I believe you are out of uniform." Olorin had noticed the irregular uniform and he saw this as a test that Captain Stakes wanted to see how he handled such a brazen act of disregard for the standards of the ship. "Only parts of me sir!" Lanista yelped out with enthusiasm arising from too much bloodwine from the night before coupled with true joy at being aboard such a fine vessel. Novas were small - just like B'rels. "This uniform was prepared from actual war trophies taken by my family in the 2nd Klingon-Federation war." Lanista was proud of her family's history, even where that required accepting her father's habit of exaggeration, but the accoutrements she was most glad of in this case were the earrings she wore - actually adapted from vintage ensign's insignia, the triangular ones used before Starfleet introduced collar pips. "The yoke of the garment is red, sir, for command, as I expect to be Head of the Department. The rest is standard Engineering ochre, sir. The sash completes the cultural embellishments, which are permissible under the uniform code." Though Klingons despised whispers, Lanista had learned to deal with the soft-spoken long before this. Vulcans were not known for raising their voices. (Reply Olorin, any) (Posted by FT) (USS Mithrandir - Deck One, Briefing Room - FO Commander Olorin Okita - 1724) Olorin's left eyebrow raised in concern, as the assistant engineer chief spoke.  He was a bit dismayed by her forwardness and her seeming lack of propriety. When she had finished speaking, he spoke in soft, but intense tone.  "Ensign, you are to remove yourself from these premises and return to your quarters.  Once there I expect you to dress yourself in a manner befitting a Star Fleet Officer.  This is a small ship and you WILL set an example, a good example, Ensign.  I would hate to use an officer as an example of what not to do for our enlisted crew.  Pride in your family's past harms no one, but such disrespect for the uniform reflects poorly on us all.  Understood?" Olorin said, pausing a mere formality.  "I will not have you distracting this crew from doing its job.  Dismissed!" Olorin watched the ensign leave and made a mental note that the ship might not be the only thing that needed a shakedown. ~I'm gonna need a cup.~ he thought, hoping that his face didn't grimace after the ensign had left. With the ensign's departure, Olorin turned his attention to the remaining officers. Space is a little tighter here than on a typical Star Fleet vessel, so make sure they are aware of those limitations. Any other questions, ensign?" Olorin said. "Aye sir, I'll start right away" Alex replied, he then stood up and left the briefing room heading for the bridge. Shrekt said after the briefing. "Let's see what the Mithrandir made of." Ben said in response." She's not as big as the Dennison so I guess our forces are going to be cut back a bit." The Mithrandir was a Nova class ship, a scientific vessel with light armaments. She was not a ship of the line but Ben was glad to be back on a ship exploring the galaxy. He never understood how people could stay on a starbase, stuck in one place. Ben enjoyed exploring the unknown and seeing what was out there. He followed Shrekt and Sanok out into the corridor as they began touring the ship. A lot of the ship was dedicated to scientific research. She was an explorer and not a heavy cruiser such as the Dennison was. Ben wondered how she would fair when push came to shove. At least she was equipped with a phase cloaking device. Taking a look at the current crew listing for the USS Mithrandir, he could see that there had been a recent change in Command.  ~Interesting~ Markra had thought, looking to see who his new department chief would be.  ~No Chief has been assigned~ he read the information from the screen, uncertain of how that might work - but when he saw there was an assistance Chief of Ops, he figured that he would be the best person to report in to. "Right then, Ensign Alex Jefferies..." he said aloud, standing from his personal computer station.  "I will see you in the morning."  He deactivated the console and decided to get an early night.  He had a day off from standard duty shift tomorrow, and he planned to use that time by visiting Ensign Jefferies and if possible, would take some time to visit the USS Mithrandir.  It would be very beneficial to familiarise himself with the new ship before he was officially transferred to her for duty. In truth, she’d worked with him only a few times, and found him an irascible man, but this was a new level for him. She raised an eyebrow as he began his rant. "Sir, I would like to know why I was not selected for this ship's crew?" Ray said, his tone showing no sign of regard to the Lieutenant's rank or position.  "I demand to be put on this ship's crew.  My research has suffered a serious setback by the loss of the Dennison's saucer section.  I have been stymied time and time again.  Why is this happening?" Ray stared at her, his gaze unwavering. If it were intended to force her into a position where she would just change her mind to satisfy his whim, then he had another thing coming. Dale was incredulous. “You demand?...Your research?...Your research Crewman, is whatever your supervising Officer or I tell you it is, and I’ll advise that you bear that in mind. If it’s your own research targets that you seek, then perhaps being a Starfleet Crewman is not for you. Your job is to assist in the research on board ship, not conduct your own. And all that not mentioning your total lack of respect for both me and my position.” Dale’s tone was firm, and unremitting, she had stood up and leant forward, leaning on her desk. (Reply Ray)  Dale sighed slightly, and sat back in chair, motioning to the seat opposite her. “Sit down Ray. Tea?” she passed a cup over from the service that sat at one side of the desk, then drank from her own cup. (Reply Ray) “Ray, you’re a very able Scientist, and your research has shown a whole lot of promise, but, there are ways of conducting yourself, make suggestions, pass them up to me, and i will treat them all with a fair eye.” Dale paused, picking her words carefully, deciding to change tack. “The Dennison, I’m sure you’re aware, had a crew of how many hundred, we had the luxury of a lot of lab and crew space. With the Mithrandir, we do not have either of those luxuries. We have crewspace for 80, and that’s including Officers. Therefore, we have to select those that are going to work as a team like at no other time. You seem to think that I’m the only one who had a say in staffing the Mithrandir.” (Reply Ray) (Reply R. Masterson, Any) (posted by Mark Howard) (USS Mithrandir - Deck 5, Operations - OO Petty Officer Markra - 1002) The previous evening, Markra had gone to sleep as an Engineer.  This morning, he had awoken as an Operations Officer - a fresh start for him to put his talents to good use.  With an eagerness he had gotten dressed, and after a very light breakfast he had made his way down to the docking ports. Making sure that he was carrying his transfer papers, Markra had left his quarters with the view to exploring the new ship he hoped to call home in the very near future.  It was only a week or so until his transfer would be complete and he would have his things relocated to the Mithrandir for good, but before any of that he would need to make a marked impression on those in charge of his department.  ~Acceptance is of great importance~ he thought to himself as he had boarded the ship via the umbilical.  He wanted his department head to see how dedicated he was to his job, so that he would think well of Markra for the future. Using the small map he had downloaded to a visual device, he stepped out of the turbolift and began to walk down the corridor to his left.  The corridors were quite narrow, compared to those of the Starbase.  Markra decided that they felt cosy rather than cramped, and that he could easy come to enjoy his time here.  He was not one that was used to enjoying many luxuries - never really feeling it was true to his people's traditions.  Many Federation and Starfleet people alike loved to use their replicators and their holodecks, taking advantage of the many amenities that would be available. Here however, there was very little in the way of amenities.  He may find a number of like-minded officers onboard with whom he might be able to strike up a rapport.  It wasn't something he had found very easy in the past, but this was the start of a new life.  ~Might things be about to change?~  Could this be the chance he had been working toward, a chance for acceptance? Markra was very hopeful indeed. Arriving at what he thought to be his destination, he entered a door to his right and was standing in one of the areas designated for Operations use.  Noting one officer present, Markra cleared his voice and said, "Excuse me. My name is Markra.  Might you be Ensign Jefferies?" (reply: Jefferies) Pleased that he had found precisely the man he was looking for, Markra stood loosely to attention and said, "Petty Officer Markra, reporting aboard."  He smiled, hoping that this was the start of a good impression.  ~Acceptance is of great importance~ he thought to himself, wondering what the Ensign might be thinking about him.  He hoped it was something good. Ray clenched his fist as he was berated by his superior.  "I beg to differ.  Our own individual research drives Star Fleet, Lieutenant." said Ray.  "I understand that there are times when we must assist each other's research.  But it is the individual search for the unknown that inevitably leads to new frontiers.  Star Fleet offers scientists some of the best facilities in the galaxy, giving us the opportunity to provide those new breakthroughs that benefit everyone." The Lieutenant sighed and sat back in her chair.  She motioned to the seat opposite her. Ray glanced at the seat she mentioned and returned his gaze upon her. "Sit down Ray. Tea?" the Lieutenant said, passing a cup over to Ray's side of her desk. He simply shook his head declining the tea and grudgingly sat down. Ray listened as the Lieutenant spoke, but the answer he sought was not found in her words. "If you do not make the decision, Lieutenant, whom should I be speaking to?  While the Dennison had a large crew, it was hardly overflowing with scientific facilities nor personnel.  This vessel is designed specifically for scientific research, it has systems we could hardly dream of possessing.  Why should I not be allowed to continue my research?" he queried. Ray fell silent, eager to hear the Lieutenant's response. Archibald pried open the left most package and withdrew a small rectangular box that he placed in front of him. He sighed and nearly went for his communication station switch when his eye suddenly caught side of the bottle of malt whiskey that stood on the little coffee table at the other side of his ready room. He got up and went over to retrieve it to return to his desk with the bottle in his hand. He had for a while forgotten about the bottle that Dale had given him. He remembered what he originally had planned to do with it, but as the ship had already been christened and apparently bad luck would follow if you did it twice, he was not sure what to do with it now. He contemplated using it for a toast at the first proper meeting but deep down he knew he would not condone the usage of alcoholic beverages on duty. Finally Archibald shook his head and placed the bottle to one side. He would find another use for it to benefit the whole crew later. The CO tapped the switch on his desk. "Captain Stakes to Ensign Lanista. Report to my Ready Room immediately.  Stakes out." Archibald then leant back in his chair, waiting for the half Klingon to appear. (Reply by Lanista, any) (USS Mithrandir - Ready Room - CO, Captain Archibald Stakes - 14:10) The CO nodded at the new arrival. "Thank you for being so prompt, Mister Lanista. Have a seat." As she sat down, Archibald regarded her for a second, half wondering what it was that Bill saw in her. But he soon caught himself and he nodded. "I have received a communique from BuPers, Ensign, regarding a review of your service record. There were some actions that I felt should be brought forward to their attention regarding your service on the erstwhile USS Dennison and your actions whilst on board." Archibald nodded once. "They have confirmed that they share my views and have allowed me to take all the required actions that I deem appropriate in response to your actions. Your rank pip please, Ensign." The CO held out his hand to receive the single open pip. Once he held it in his hand, he regarded it for a second then tossed it into the small waste basket next to his desk. "I deem it appropriate, Mister Lanista, to promote you to Ensign senior grade effective immediately." Archibald picked up the small box in front of him, flipped it open and showed the Ensign the single, filled pip it contained. "Congratulations, Ensign senior grade Lanista." he said as he handed her the box then took the pack that he had retrieved the box from and handed it to her as well. "In this package you will find a white dress uniform in your size, according to your records. It is my wish that you retire to your quarters, change into the dress uniform and attach the rank insignia to it. Then for a period of not less than 24 hours but no more than 25 hours you will wear the dress uniform instead of your normal uniform.  This is to signify to all you have been found worthy of a promotion." Archibald nodded but then held up his hand. "However, Ensign, before you say anything, could you perhaps explain to me why Consul Rog of the Tazarian Conglomerate found it necessary to hand me this package with strict instructions to hand it to you only?" Archibald picked up the cloth-covered package and handed it to the Engineer, his face clearly showing his displeasure. (Reply by Lanista, room for more) (USS Mithrandir - Ready Room - CO, Captain Archibald Stakes - 14:25) "Captain Stakes to Ensign Sanok. Report to my Ready Room immediately.  Stakes out." (USS Mithrandir - Ready Room - CO, Captain Archibald Stakes - 14:35) The CO nodded at the new arrival. "Thank you for being so prompt, Mister Sanok. Have a seat." As the Vulcan sat down, Archibald regarded him for a second. The medical reports that he had seen had him made fear for the worst, but the Ensign seemed reasonably fit after his ordeal. "I have received a communique from BuPers, Ensign, regarding a review of your service record. There were some actions that I felt should be brought forward to their attention regarding your service on the erstwhile USS Dennison and your actions whilst on board and on the planet." Archibald nodded once. "I deem it appropriate, Mister Sanok, to promote you to Ensign senior grade effective immediately." Archibald picked up the small box in front of him, flipped it open and showed the Ensign the single, filled pip it contained. "Congratulations, Ensign senior grade Sanok." he said as he handed him the box then took the pack that he had retrieved the box from and handed it to him as well. This is to signify to all you have been found worthy of a promotion." (Reply by Sanok, room for more) (USS Mithrandir - Ready Room - CO, Captain Archibald Stakes - 14:50) "Captain Stakes to Ensign Soma. Report to my Ready Room immediately.  Stakes out." (USS Mithrandir - Assigned Quarters- ATac Ensign (jg) Ben Soma-1451) Ben had been organizing his quarters now that it was OK for him to come and go from the ship as he pleased. He was just setting his father’s Katana in place and activating the security measures that would keep it from anyone’s reach when his commbadge chimed, =/\=Captain Stakes to Ensign Soma. Report to my Ready Room immediately. Stakes out.=/\= Ben tapped his commbadge and said, "On my way, Sir." He wondered what the meeting was going to be about, new duties to attend to, maybe a speech about how his duties were to be more important now that they were aboard the Mithrandir and the security forces were cut back due to space restraints. He made his way out the door to a lift. (USS Mithrandir - Ready Room - CO, Captain Archibald Stakes - 15:00) The CO nodded at the new arrival. "Thank you for being so prompt, Mister Soma. Have a seat." As the young man sat down, Archibald regarded him for a second. He remembered the man from previous times but lately there seemed a few more lines that were etched in his face. "I have received a communique from BuPers, Ensign, regarding a review of your service record. There were some actions that I felt should be brought forward to their attention regarding your service on the erstwhile USS Dennison and your actions whilst on board and on the planet." "Congratulations, Ensign senior grade Soma." he said as he handed him the box then took the pack that he had retrieved the box from and handed it to him as well. "In this package you will find a white dress uniform in your size, according to your records. (Reply by Soma, room for more) (USS Mithrandir - Ready Room - ATac Ensign (jg) Ben Soma- 15:01) The CO nodded at the new arrival. "Thank you for being so prompt, Mister Soma. Have a seat." Ben sat in the seat opposite Captain Stakes and noticed he was being sized up. He had been through quite a bit after joining Stakes' crew, from the mission on Maltoria, to the fire in the Hyperion and the recent rescue of his fellow security officer and friend Sanok. Ben assumed the Captain was noting the subtle changes that must be apparent in his appearance. "I have received a communique from BuPers, Ensign, regarding a review of your service record. There were some actions that I felt should be brought forward to their attention regarding your service on the erstwhile USS Dennison and your actions whilst on board and on the planet." Archibald nodded once. "They have confirmed that they share my views and have allowed me to take all the required actions that I deem appropriate in response to your actions. Your rank pip please, Ensign." Ben reached up to his uniform collar and pulled the pip off and handed it to Captain Stakes. He looked at the pip for a moment and tossed it into a waste basket beside his desk, Ben wasn't sure just what was going to happen next. Maybe he would be busted back to a crewman for his actions or maybe it would be suggested that he resign his commission as a Starfleet officer. "I deem it appropriate, Mister Soma, to promote you to Ensign senior grade effective immediately." Ben was overwhelmed, he hadn't expected a promotion this early in his career. At the Academy he had heard that it could take years for a promotion and then it would only come if one really stood out from the rest and did something above and beyond. He felt as though he had just done his duty as any other officer would have done in his place. He still felt responsible for the loss of Commander West and Lt. Bracken, the later had returned but the Commander was still MIA. Archibald picked up the small box in front of him, flipped it open and showed the Ensign the single, filled pip it contained. "Congratulations, Ensign senior grade Soma." he said as he handed him the box then took the pack that he had retrieved the box from and handed it to him as well. Ben took the box as Captain Stakes handed it to him and regarded the full golden pip inside, he felt honoured even though he was unsure as to why he deserved the promotion. But he would not let his CO down, he would rise to the occasion and continue to do what he did best- serve. This is to signify to all you have been found worthy of a promotion." "Thank you, Sir." Ben said and looked at his commanding officer. "I am honoured to receive this promotion and will to my best not to disappoint you. But if I may ask a question, Captain. What actions warranted this promotion, Sir." Ben was sure that the Captain was quite puzzled by his question, it was not proper etiquette for an officer to question a promotion, but Ben had to clear the air as it were. He felt responsible for the loss of the Dennison's first officer and wondered if others also held him responsible for the loss. "Sir, I was unable to prevent the abduction of Commander West on Maltoria as well as Lieutenant Bracken. The lieutenant has since returned but West is still out there somewhere. It was my duty to protect the away team, a duty that I feel I have failed." Ben sat back in his chair and awaited Captain Stakes reply whatever it may be. (reply Stakes) (posted by Milo Young) (USS Mithrandir - Ready Room - CO, Captain Archibald Stakes - 15:15) "Captain Stakes to Ensign Nymes. Report to my Ready Room immediately.  Stakes out." (USS Mithrandir - Ready Room - CO, Captain Archibald Stakes - 15:25) The CO nodded at the new arrival. "Thank you for being so prompt, Mister ... Doctor. Have a seat." As the medic sat down, Archibald remembered his first run in with the Doctor. "I have been informed by Starfleet Medical that they have made some modifications to the LMH program for it to be better capable to assist with case diagnostics and have given the LMH an increased medical database. They felt it appropriate for a vessel as small as ours since the limited crew will mean a limitation in our diagnostic capabilities, especially considering the types of missions we would be performing. The modifications will be downloaded straight from Earth and should be completed by no later than tomorrow 10 o'clock. Until then, please do not activate the program as that may interfere with the downloading." (reply by Nymes, iyw) Archibald nodded and continued. "Furthermore I have received a communique from BuPers, Ensign, regarding a review of  your service record. There were some actions that I felt should be brought forward to their attention regarding your service on the erstwhile USS Dennison and your actions whilst on board." Archibald nodded once. "They have confirmed that they share my views and have allowed me to take all the required actions that I deem appropriate in response to your actions. Your rank pip please, Ensign." The CO held out his hand to receive the single filled pip. Once he held it in his hand, he regarded it for a second then tossed it into the small waste basket next to his desk. "I deem it appropriate, Mister Nymes, to promote you to Lieutenant junior grade effective immediately." Archibald picked up the small box in front of him, flipped it open and showed the Ensign the bar, holding a single, filled pip and a single open pip, it contained. "Congratulations, Lieutenant junior grade Nymes." he said as he handed him the box then took the pack that he had retrieved the box from and handed it to him as well. "In this package you will find a white dress uniform in your size, according to your records.
