Andersen's initial conclusions came out confirmed when Sanok further explained how the mind probe chair, just as she thought, left distasteful images in his mind of hatred towards all telepaths. Sanok paused while talking and Andersen stood there, caught in the moment, reflecting her earlier thoughts. Before Sanok would say it, she knew they had to stop them. There are some things in life that a person have a feeling of before they even happen, when every fiber of your being tells you that you should really do something. "Kevras, Maddox and Matrix will remain here to work on disabling the portal generator. The rest of us will rescue the Tesla crew and return here. If we are able to disable the portal and still have time to escape, we will do so. If not...." Sanok said. "Does anyone have anything to say?" he added. It would not be the ways of the Federation to capture the base for further study, perhaps - she thought. Even though, from a merely scientifical point of view, this would provide great amount of knowledge of wormholes - and perhaps a thing or two about mind probing and interrogation. Andersen thought what would some of the more illusive members of the Federation, a self proclaimed keepers of the good-for-humanity do in her case. Luckily, they knew nothing of this mission. But she had to admit even though the aliens had barbaric ways of extracting information, they still had technology that she would like having. She shrugged, who knows what might happen anyway. Sanok said if they have time to escape, they will do so, if not - they might stay behind. In which case, the stations secrets may reveal themselves to them. Two sides in her had a conflict now, the curious side really wanted an insight into the unknown technology, while the other valued personal freedom above all, and just wanted to get off the station somewhere safe. Things were, again, out of her control. She wanted to come forth to Sanok saying she would really relish the opportunity to further study the mind device... but she had a feeling after his experience, he might not be so understanding in the reasons, so she just remained silent. (Reply: Any) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (Alien Station, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 2312) Time passed by and Tho'var was still on the console trying to figure out how the wormhole/portal worked. During that last hour, he had made a lot of progress. He still wasn't sure about the scientific part, but he certainly got the engineering part. Helped by the ambassador translation, he was soon able to understand the complexity of the station systems and it was used to power the different technology used to maintain the wormhole/portal. While working, he also listened to what Sanok had to say. Tho.var had understood the other part of the puzzle and was interested to get the other part of the portrait. He had understood what they have been seeking in his mind : knowledge on telepathic species in the beta and alpha quadrants. What he did not understood was what they wanted with them. The explanation Sanok had given answered that precise question : hatred for telepaths, certainly because of what they had done. It was difficult to know what they have lived.....but he could understand hatred. Following the genocide of his species, hatred had been all that he had left toward half the Federation. It took him time to understand some people, and not any specific specie or organisation were at fault...still, he hated...Perhaps, this specie were attacked in a similar way. They had no right to kidnap them. Nevertheless, Tho'var wanted to forgive them.....He wanted to hear their story to understand them and their action. Tho'var heard the other teams arriving, but he wanted to make sure to have the complete portray before explaining the situation. WHen he was comfortable enough, he rose and went to see Ensign Maddox and Lieutenant Commander Matrix. "Sir, and ensign. I have been examining the controls for the last two hours. Here is what I know. This console serve as a remote control for the wormhole. It control a very sophisticated technology that is able to keep stable enough a wormhole that should have normally have collapsed long ago. I'm barely making sense of all the data and technologies they are using such it is complicated and involves mathematics and subspace theories that I don't even understand. I mean, they are using law of physics that are considered impossible according to our best scientific, and that is only what I make sense.." (Reply Maddox or Matrix) Tho'var paused. He invited them towards the console. After pressing a few buttons, he showed some equations to Maddox and Matrix. .Tho'var resumed: "There are certainly things even greater that I simply have the knowledge to recognize. Even if a lot of system are automated, I'm not sure exactly what are the extend of the manipulation or changes we can bring to the wormhole. Nevertheless, I have figured out how to read the information on radiation, gravity, tetryon, so all we need to know as well as to how to change them. To power such technology, I would not be surprise if they have antimatter reactor 10 times more efficient than a Galaxy-Class Warpcore. More optimistically, as I realized Ensign Maddox would be better at figure out the maths and laws of physics used by the aliens who build that station, I rather concentrated my effort on the engineering part, and I know sufficiently enough how the power system work and it could be used to power the technology." (Reply Maddox or Matrix) The summary done, Tho'var started to explain quickly how the interface and system worked. Hopefully, they would have better results than he did....otherwise, triggering the closing of the wormhole might be the biggest challenge they have ever faced. (Posted by Nick) ----- (Alien Station, Ensign Heath Gomez , Day 1, 2313) Heath had remained close to the door after his team had rendezvoused with the others, he kept watch on the corridor while the others talked. So far he was impressed with the station but couldn't say the same about the aliens who were in control of it. They seemed to be lacking military training, their tactics didn't seem right and neither did their clumsy movements. He was wondering if these people actually owned the station then Commander Sanok filled them in on the Hakani, a race that bitterly hated all telepaths and wanted to destroy them all. He remained in position as the others discussed the next course of action, Commander Sanok stated they were going to disable the portal device and rescue the Tesla's crew. Matrix, Maddox and Kevras would remain to disable the device while the rest would go after the Tesla's crew. They had the location were they were being held which was a bonus. The Commander then asked if there were any questions, he twisted his head slightly so he could see them. "I'm ready to move on your word Commander." He said. He then turned his attention back to the corridor and awaited the word to move out, the sooner they got out of this the better. (reply any) (posted by Milo Young) ----- (Alien Station, LCDR Steven Matrix - CEO, Day 1, 2314) While the others gave reports on the recent events and information gained from exploring this part of the alien station Matrix continued to take readings and analyze some of the telemetry data he collected. "Mister Matrix, please assist Mister Maddox." Matrix looked up and acknowledged the order and continued to listen to Commander Sanok. "They have great resources and a very large number of soldiers. They are not ready yet to attack the Federation, but they are preparing. It is our duty to stop them. I also know where the Tesla crew is being held. "Kevras, Maddox, and Matrix will remain here to work on disabling the portal generator. The rest of us will rescue the Tesla crew and return here. If we are able to disable the portal and still have time to escape, we will do so. If not...." His voice trailed off. "Does anyone have anything to say?" "Understood Commander. We'll get this thing figured out if I have to pull it out with my bare hands." Replied Matrix. (Reply any, none) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Alien Station, CEO LCDR Steven Matrix - 2317) Matrix leaned over the console nearest to Kevras and listened to the talented engineer's report. Replied Matrix squinting to read the displays. His eyes tired and sore from the smoke and dry air. He took a moment to scan the systems before him ,his engineering and explorer side wished they had time to take everything in and study it properly. From what Kevras was uncovering, there might be technologies here that would benefit the Federation. (Reply any, none) Tho'var resumed: "There are certainly things even greater that I simply have the knowledge to recognize. "Well you're in luck Lieutenant. I minored in energy systems and advanced propulsion theory at the Academy. Hopefully I can help piece this together." Matrix sat down at the station next to Kevras and tried to bring up a display terminal. "Lieutenant.can you augment this display to show what you're seeing there? I'd like to see if I can decipher some of these systems and uncover any obvious algorithms." Asked Matrix. (Reply Kevras, Maddox) "Good.good..this is helpful. I recognize.." Replied Matrix as his attention focused on the information before him. Alien yes, but it seemed strangely familiar. (Reply Kevras, Maddox, any) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Alien Station, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 2318) As soon as he has briefed Ensign Maddox and Lieutenant Commander Matrix on the control room, they were all back to work. Giving the place to the two officers, Tho'var stood beside them to watch him work as well as to help him with the interface. He pointed at the console button a few times to indicate where he needed to press. In general, both made sense of the interface rather quickly. “Lieutenant…can you augment this display to show what you’re seeing there? I’d like to see if I can decipher some of these systems and uncover any obvious algorithms.” Asked Matrix. "Yeah, sure." he replied. Tho'var pressed on a few control and the display size increased. The algorithms were not more visible. "So, if I understand correctly, that is the Oklund-T'oral quantum coefficient, and that the Phreiux momentum law. But I can't figure out what those numbers are for." he said, looking at one of many equation he did not understand. (Reply Maddox or Matrix) "Yeah but those numbers seems to change the equation quite radically...." Tho'var paused....considering what they have said. "But it is true those two parts of the equation seems to bring the results back to numbers closer to our theories. So, our scientists forgot to take account of all that part of the equation? That's about a fourth of the whole equation." Tho'var could start to understand why Starfleet had never been able to stabilize any wormhole. "Yet, do you have any idea what they represent? A subspace factor we are not aware of?" Tho'var tried to think of every particle, matter, antimatter, oscillation that had been theorized to exist but never proven....There were a lot, but in a few seconds, none seemed to be what they were dealing with. They were so much unknown in science....and the worst was not the fact they couldn't find all the known unknowns....but rather the fact they were still so many unknown unknowns. (Reply Maddox or Matrix) While Maddox and Matrix analyzed the equation, Tho'var examined the console closely. There was a problem he was foreseeing. Isolinear chips weren't compatible with the console interface. They couldn't simply plug it in and copy the equations and data. They would have to enter the equation manually which would be a very laborious work. Considering the amount of variables (radiation, space-warp calculation, etc., they would have to manually enter every variables so that they had enough information to know what each number of the equation represented. That would take hours of their time. ~ That is one great contribution to science that won't happen today ~ Tho'var thought. (Reply any) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Alien Station, CEO LCDR Steven Matrix – Day 1 - 2319) The three officers concentrated on the intricate equations on the displays before them. But I can't figure out what those numbers are for." he said, looking at one of many equation he did not understand. Continued Kevras. Matrix pondered the display. "Those look very similar to Maxwell's equations in three-space. Good question...perhaps constants of the quantum derivatives over a quad-permeability...oh Green's theorem perhaps. We might be able to reduce these to a simple double integral?" (Reply Kevras, Maddox) "Yeah but those numbers seems to change the equation quite radically...." Tho'var paused....considering what they have said. "But it is true those two parts of the equation seems to bring the results back to numbers closer to our theories. Perhaps trying something simple? "asked Matrix (Reply Maddox) (Posted by Steve) ----- (USS Rosenante - Bridge- CO- Captain Ben Soma - Day 1 - 2320) Ben stood up from the center seat and took a couple minutes to walk around the bridge, occasionally asking for updates as he passed the stations. Sitting on his hands wasn't something he enjoyed or did well, but it was something he was going to have to get used to. His senior officers were over on the station searching for the Tesla's missing crew and their own missing officers. Why had the occupants of the station chosen to abduct so many people and for what purpose? Tel had told him something sinister about the aliens and what they wanted to do. He couldn't understand the blind hatred they seemed to have towards telepaths. Now there was a fleet of ships approaching their position, it was likely they were of the same species on the station. There was an off chance that they were not allies with the station's inhabitants but he couldn't wait to find out. From previous scans they had determined that the station was heavily armed, currently it's shields were dropped and there was no sign that the Rose had been detected. If the approaching fleet was allied with the stations occupants the Rose would be at a disadvantage to say the least. They had to accomplish their objectives and the sooner the better, the time had come for a distraction. Ben moved back towards the center seat. "Drop cloak and raise shields." He said. "Time for a distraction." "Cloak is dropped and shields are up." Came the response. "Hail the station, let's see if anyone is interested in talking." Ben waited for any sign of aggression of a reply from the station, he wanted to get to the bottom of the issue and recover his officers safely. He also wanted to get the crew of the Tesla back, without a fight if possible but if they wanted a fight he'd give them one. Replied Matrix as he moved back to the independent display in front of him. "Mister Maddox...suggestions on where to start? Perhaps trying something simple? "asked Matrix. "I have some facts that may help." Andrew started. "I have managed to interface with the main computer. I've gotten as close to a true translation as we are going to get within the time constraints. I have conversed with the computer and believe that the individuals in control of this station were not the ones who built it. We may be able to use that to our advantage. Additionally with my numerous interactions with the computer has led me to believe that it is at least pseudo-sentient. At the very least it has the capability of learning at a fast pace." Andrew explained. (Reply any) " This computer, this mind, is as strong in processing power as our main computer. Where our main computer is not sentient, this one I think is early in it's development, say what we would call the mind of a child. I haven't been able to review the logs of this station so I don't know why or how this station came to be in this state with a culture that didn't build it in charge of it. I can only fathom a guess at this point." Andrew said. (Reply Matrix) "Sir, I believe, that each station can be used independent of the whole, so the race whoever they are, are running the station without the help of the main computer, that much is certain." Maddox answered. (Reply Matrix) "I can't answer that question at this time. I've never asked and frankly, I wouldn't know how to ask if the computer has any opinion on the matter. If I were to hazard a guess, I would say that something is probably prohibiting the main computer from re-establishing control." Andrew answered. (reply Matrix) (Posted by Todd) ----- (Alien Station – Portal Control Room - LCDR Steven Matrix - Day 1 – 2324) Matrix dabbled in the equation algorithm briefly trying to familiarize himself with distant memories of his formal education and, at the time, a keen grasp of the complexity and elegance of three dimensional space theory and propulsion. He had become so dependent upon modern day computer interaction that his manual mathematical and 'on the envelope' equation solving skills had become far from rusty. “ This computer, this mind, is as strong in processing power as our main computer. Where our main computer is not sentient, this one I think is early in it’s development, say what we would call the mind of a child. I haven’t been able to review the logs of this station so I don’t know why or how this station came to be in this state with a culture that didn’t build it in charge of it. I can only fathom a guess at this point.” Andrew said. "I agree with your assessment Mister Maddox. From what I'm seeing here this station seems extremely capable. Too capable for those we've encountered so far. While accessing the main core logic I've noticed a fast amount of what appears to be engineering, medical and scientific data. From the looks of it more than we could fit on the Rose's computer banks. Too much data in fact, almost a repository of knowledge and capability." Replied Matrix. (Reply Maddox, any) “Sir, I believe, that each station can be used independent of the whole, so the race whoever they are, are running the station without the help of the main computer, that much is certain.” Maddox answered. I’ve never asked and frankly, I wouldn’t know how to ask if the computer has any opinion on the matter. If I were to hazard a guess, I would say that something is probably prohibiting the main computer from re-establishing control.” Andrew answered. "Let's see if we can't isolate the communication frequency or at least the method used. Perhaps we can trace the source down." Replied Matrix as he access the alien computer system and began again. (Reply Maddox, any) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Alien Station, 2O/COPS Lieutenant Tom Jackson -Day 1 - 2325) Tom waited to start the search for the Tesla crew. He also was anxious to get back to the Rose and his family. As he waited the images of his kids Hope and Jacob appeared in his mind. Tom was saddened as he was missing watching them grow up. Dahlia often chided her husband about this mood of his. "Darling, we owe StarFleet everything we have together. It brought us together and as a result we gave the twins. Never feel like you've let them or me down" she'd tell Tom. Still Tom, a man who sometimes wore his feelings visibly, felt like he was missing something. He hadn't realized that he'd enjoy being a dad so much. Jackson watched the others get to the tasks Sanok assigned them. (Reply : None) (Posted by: Bill West ----- (Chikola Station, First Pregus Men Olarid, Day 1, 2326) Olarid was seething. Hostile aliens that aligned themselves with mind-rippers, were on the station. Security patrols had been sent out, but they had lost contact with all of them. Sending out a call to each post, the only ones that replied, were the ones guarding the crew from the first ship. Even those manning the portal control room, had failed to respond. He had been given the honor of leading the Holy Crusade for Freedom. Things were so close to being ready, their fleet was on its way, but they were being hindered by a small band of intruders. He had always felt the decision to lightly-crew the station was not a good idea. Unfortunately, those that had given that order, certainly weren't going to allow themselves to take the blame if their great mission failed. It was all on his shoulders, so he would need to do something and do it quickly. "Pregus, a ship is appearing." On the main view screen, a large vessel appeared, as though it had been invisible. They had detected something, and they were certain it was a ship, but they had not been able to find its exact location. Now, its leader was choosing to make his presence known. "They are trying to contact us, Pregus." Olarid considered what to do. Clearly, the enemy leader was not interested in combat, at least as long as his clan mates were on the station. It was likely that he knew their fleet was coming, but they were still hours away. The station was armored, and had many powerful energy weapons at their disposal, so it was possible Olarid could destroy the ship. He wasn't interested in talking with those that were friends of mind-rippers, so he had only two choices. "Ignore them." (reply none) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Alien Station, FO/CSec Lt. Cmdr. We can use either a turbolift, or try to find a set of stairs. I do not know how many Hikani are on this station, but based on everything we have seen, there are not many. The plan for now, is to reach the detention area. Once there, we will try to scan and scout the area, then devise a plan of attack. There is not much more we can do right now. "Mister Gomez, you will take the point, followed by Mister Allen, then Lt. Jackson. Doctor, you will go next, with Mister James and myself taking the rear." "What about me, Commander?" "You will remain here, Ambassador." Sanok could tell by the expression on her face, that she wasn't happy with his decision. "Commander, I have skills that can help," said Turner. "That's why I came on this mission." "I realize that, Ambassador, but this is not a diplomatic mission now. You will remain here." Turner tried to protest, but Sanok held up his hand. He had teams on the station searching for the missing crew from both ships and they were running out of time. "No response from the station sir." Someone stated. Either they weren't receiving the hail or they were ignoring it. The only thing Ben hated more than sitting on his hands was being ignored. The time had come to take action, one way or another he was going to get a response of some kind. "Open a channel, broadcast on all frequencies and known languages." He said. "Channel open." Came the reply. "Alien station this is Captain Ben Soma of the USS Rosenante representing the United Federation of Planets." He said. "Your holding the crew of the USS Tesla and several of my officers against their will, such an abduction can be perceived as an act of war." He had hoped to avoid a fight if possible but that may no longer be an option. "Respond to this communication or you'll leave me with no other option but the use of force." He didn't want to attack the station but he didn't see any other options, the Rose may not be a match for the station but he would give it one hell of a fight. He turned and drew his finger across his throat giving the signal to end transmission. Let them consider that for a couple minutes. "Hail the away teams." He said. "Channel open." "Rosenante to away teams." He began. "There's a fleet of hostile ships approaching the station, it's about to get crowded here. The station had been build by another specie...and it was now know that the specie that kidnapped them hated telepaths. It was possible the specie who build the station were highly telepathic. Perhaps that was the missing piece. If the builder were indeed telepaths, perhaps telepathy was their security. "Is it possible that the specie who build the station are in fact the telepathic specie we know the alien on this station hated?" asked Tho'var to the two officers. (Reply any) "If the computer is sentient and the builders were telepaths, then it is possible the computer can be interacted with telepathically. At best, I could perhaps have access to more control commands or more database. Also, if the computer has reacted to the alien on board, then perhaps it is capable of judging our intention. The small shuttle had just docked on the surface of the station when the Rosenante dropped out of cloak. Jessica made her way back to the front of the shuttle "EVA suits prepped and ready." She took in the sights before the proximity of the other shuttles and the hatch that would lead them into the station, it was clear this was how their comrades had entered the station. She returned back to the rear of the shuttle and begun to don the EVA suit. Jessica hated these suits more than nearly any other. She was small, so the suit never fit right. She knew her appearance made her seem out of place the EVA suit made her look even more so. But with a deft hand and a few grumbles she managed to get into the suit. Then, once everyone else was ready it was out into space. Jessica was thankful the walk to the hatch was short and it wasn't long before they were in the station getting out of EVA suits and placing them next to the collection that was already there. "Well glad that was over." Jessica spoke her tone spoke volumes about her dislike for those suits. They had learned enough about these people from interrogating the crew from the first ship. "Pregus, the ship is now trying to contact their people on the station. The energy interference from the portal beam is effectively blocking his hails." Olarid frowned. These people had advanced technology, and were most certainly resourceful. It was only a matter of time before they found a way past the interference. "Have we still no contact with the portal control room?" said Olarid. "No one has responded to my calls, Pregus." "Send a security team." "But Pregus, it is the last team that we have." "Send them anyway. I want to know if the attackers have possession of it. If they do, it could hinder our great crusade." (Reply Maddox, any) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Alien Station, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 2339) With the approval of his superior, Tho'var decided to test his theory. However, he realized quickly it would be harder than he expected. There were no way to interface with the console. If telepaths were the builder, you would have expected their would be a way to interface with it. But all Tho'var could find was touch console. With no way to interface directly, Tho'var was left with no choice but to try a remote telepathic access. Breathing deeply, he tried to have contact with the sentient computer. However, he felt nothing. No presence... the sentient computer was not sentient enough for telepathic communication. ~For what it is worth~ Tho'var thought. ~Computer, we are no threat to you. We are the one who took control of the station, nor do we have any interest in holding it. I was abducted along with the crew of another ship and those around me have come to rescue me and the other crew. Now, we just want to return home. We need to have access to the wormholes control. We need to pass then shut it down so that no one can ever come in our territory.~ Tho'var didn't really expect an answer, and none he got. That done, he returned to more realistic ways. "If we have no control over the wormhole functions, perhaps we can use another way to shut it down. We can just let enough fuel to power to wormhole the time we get through. When their will be no more fuel, the station should deactivate itself." (Reply any) "Do we know where the fuel tanks are located?" She was staring at the five Hikani that had been working there, though they were tied up and still unconscious from phaser fire. After a while, she realized she was pouting. Sighing, Jo sat up in her chair. She was still angry with Sanok for making her stay in the control room, but deep down inside, she understood his reasoning. Still, it didn't make her happy, but at least she knew the man was doing what he thought was right. When Jackson's team had arrived, they had brought a Hikani with them. He was sitting on the hard, metal floor, his arms tied behind him around a metal support beam. He hadn't spoken. All he had done, was stare at them, a violent expression on his face, and hatred in his eyes. Perhaps this was her opportunity to exercise her diplomatic skills. Sanok had taken Jo's comm badge, so she didn't have the universal translator available. Working with Kevras, they had found a basic understanding of a language on the computer. Hoping it was the language the Hikani spoke, Jo accessed it and offered a greeting. "I am Ambassador Joanne Turner, representing the United Federation of Planets. May I ask you what your name is?" She made sure she had an upbeat tone in her voice and a pleasant expression on her face, though after years of experience, both came naturally. The Hikani stared at Jo, but did not say anything. "We are here only to retrieve our crew mates and friends. We are not your enemy. If you allow us to have our people, we will leave peacefully." More staring. Jo was a very patient person, but in this situation, she was not feeling any patience. Inwardly, she was getting upset. "Are you hungry or thirsty? If there's any food or drink here, tell me where it's stored and I'll bring it to you." The Hikani's face twitched almost imperceptibly, but it was enough for Jo, with her experience and training, to see. "Tell me where the food is and I'll get it for you." The Hikani's face returned to its violent and hateful expressions. Inwardly, Jo sighed. Any time you wish to talk, I'll..." Jo never finished her sentence. There was the hum of focused energy, and the computer console next to her exploded. She was struck by debris and knocked off her chair. Looking upwards through dazed eyes, she saw several Hikani on the catwalk. They were firing energy weapons at Jo and the others. (reply Matrix, Kevras, Maddox) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Alien Station, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 2342) Tho'var just had the time to submit his idea that he was shaken by a violent explosion not far from where he stood. He wasn't hurt, but a lot of dust had been carried in the air by the blow. If he could see anything, the sound was quite evident someone was trying to assault the control room. He took refuge and shot in the direction were the attackers were coming. "How many are they?" asked Tho'var to Turner (Reply Turner) "We are no security officers. I'm not sure the odd are in our favor, even if we are taking a defensive stance." Aside, Tho'var wasn't sure exactly what kind of formation a Federation Ambassador would have. Nor if, in this situation, a Starfleet officer had hierarchical priority over an ambassador. "We also have those to watch, and we can't watch them and attack at the same time. I recommend to stun them." (Reply Turner) Tho'var didn't liked the position he was caught in. He really didn't liked shooting at people. As he had expected however, he was already too deep to go back. Furthermore, considering the odds, his life and the life of his comrades were also at stake so he wasn't allowed to doubt. In any case, he wasn't the superior officer so, while he was shooting completely blind, he waited for his superior instructions. (Reply Turner or Matrix). She could see the others diving for cover, and Kevras was shouting something to her, but she was still too dazed from her fall to comprehend what the Andorian was saying. She knew enough that she couldn't stay in open ground, so she rolled behind the metal support beam where the Hikani was tied. Blinking her eyes to help clear her head, Jo tried to assess the situation. She wasn't trained in combat. She didn't know tactics. So far they had been pretty lucky, they hadn't encountered any resistance yet. Either that meant the holding area was highly guarded or the aliens didn't expect anyone to be able to find where they were located. He hoped for the later was was prepare for the former. Something about this whole situation bothered him, it was apparent these aliens weren't exactly sure what they were doing. They had next to no security and those they had encountered seemed clumsy and lacking proper training. How were these aliens able to abduct the crew of a starship? He doubted they actually owned the station but had a rudimentary understanding of how it operated, maybe they could do the same at a later date. Heath spotted a set of doors up ahead, he moved to stand beside them just out of range of any automatic opening sensor and waited for the others to catch up. This was the so called moment of truth, would they simply find the Tesla crew on the other side or a barrage of weapons fire? He'd get his answer soon enough. Glancing at Sanok he said. Even through the upper part of his uniform seems to absorb the warmth and radiation from the shower of fire from above. In an instant Matrix was showered with the debris exploding equipment, heat and light. What seemed like minutes was actually a mere moment before he took cover in the form of the floor and had rolled away from the direct fire the best he could. Instinctively he had grabbed his phaser even before hitting the ground, only slowed by the progress of safety by the chair he desperately pushed out of the way. Ears ringing from the impact and rising decibel levels Matrix struggled to make sense of the situation. He took two blind shots at the figures above him while continuing to flee to safety. Out of the corner of his vision Matrix could see the Ambassador looking dazed. He moved toward her and pushed her even further to the side of the room, putting as much distance as possible from the alien shooters and the Ambassador. She was somewhat eager to see what awaits them. She was sure it's not going to be easy. Corridor after corridor, Ailyn spotted no guards. The others were in front so she expedited her walking. Something didn't smell right here. It was either the station was manned by a pretty small skeleton crew... or they were just handing themselves into ambush. Ambush, Ailyn never liked that word. Eventually Ailyn caught the doors up ahead of the group. It would seemed Ensign Gomez stood beside them before the others, Ailyn included, would walk towards. "Ready on your command sir." the Ensign said, looking at Sanok. This was it, no coming back. Everything led to this point. Only a finger pressing the console was between the away team, and possible ambush. This time, however, the away team was ready. Whatever they would find beyond these doors, thought Andersen, they could tackle. She was not afraid of returning fire. But what if the Tesla crew waited on the other side, being used as a shield from the away team weapons fire? Andersen could barely shoot anyone in self defense, let alone another Starfleet crew member. Today was the first time she discharged her phaser onto another live being. It did not feel good... she could not feel anything at all. She knew she had to do it, but at the same time as a doctor, she did not wanted to. The SO at tactical stated. Ben didn't like being ignored, it was rude. He wanted to speak with these people and negotiate a peaceful conclusion to the situation, if one was possible. Unfortunately the stations inhabitants were making that task very difficult. The fact that he couldn't contact the away teams was troubling but expected, there was a lot of interference coming from the station. "Boost the signal and try to break through the interference." He instructed. "Keep sending the warning to the away teams." Ben had no idea if the leader of the aliens was simply ignoring him or if he thought that he wouldn't fire on the station. "Still no response to our hails sir." The SO stated. "I'm adjusting the frequency and bandwidths to cut through." "Keep on it." Ben replied. He stood and took several step towards the main view screen, he stared at it as if trying to see through the hull and get a glimpse of those holding the crew of the Tesla and two of his own officers. Why take hostages if weren't going to contact anyone to make demands, it didn't make sense. So far he was batting zero. Turning back to face the SO he saw him shaking his head, still no luck. "Prepare a photon torpedo." Ben said. "Sir?" The SO inqired. "Set yield at thirty percent maximum and detonate five hundred meters from the stations hull, that should get their attention without causing any damage to the station. Hopefully it'll show our resolve and they will respond to us." The SO nodded in understanding and his fingers ran over the board, moments later he looked up. "Torpedo ready." Ben turned back to the view screen. "Fire." Ben watched as the torpedo shot out towards the station, then when it reached it's programed limit it exploded. He supposed it was why its original builders had made it so highly-armored. If only they had learned more about how to control the portals. They would not have needed to keep this one open for so long. Olarid watched the missile move closer. Subconsciously, he grabbed the sides of his chair. He would never have thought these people would fire on them and risk their clan mates. On the view screen, there was a flash of light that caused Olarid to close his eyes for a second. What had happened? "Pregus. The missile detonated 435 miltars from the station." "Damage?" "Scanning now." While waiting for the report, Olarid wondered about the enemy commander. Was this a demonstration of power? Was this supposed to intimidate them? He still had the captives. What was to be accomplished by this? It was like a youngling terok cat, as it tried to mimic hunting a prey animal. It's claws had not fully developed yet, but it wanted to show the rest of the pack that it was just as powerful as they were. "Outer hull scarring in section 371. One sensor array slightly damaged. Repair bots have already responded." "An impressive weapon, that missile," said Olarid. "They are well-armed, as expected, but they do not have the will to use their power to its fullest. Let us see if we impress them. Fire a missile of our own." "Target?" "Their ship. Hit it directly." "Yes, Pregus." He tapped his console. "Missile ready." "Fire." Ben hit the com open. "All hands brace for impact." He declared. Closing the com he added. "Evasive maneuvers." The image on the view screen began to tilt and move, the Rose was attempting to avoid the incoming torpedo. It would be close if they managed to avoid it, he began counting and didn't make it very far before the Rose shook violently. He had to grab his arm rests to avoid being tossed from his seat. Somewhere behind him a console blew sending sparks into the air, several of which found the back of his neck and he caught the scent of singed hair and flesh as well as a burning sensation. "Shields holding, minimal damage." Came a voice from behind him. "Sickbay is reporting mostly minor injuries, sprains, and a couple fractured limbs." ~At least we got someones attention~ The force of that torpedo was impressive, his own torpedo had it's explosive yield reduced and hadn't impacted the station. This was meant to do damage, it wasn't a warning such as his was. "Bring us about." Ben ordered. "Target the source of that torpedo and return fire, one photon full yield." Maybe with this the Aliens would decide to reply, feeling the full brunt of a photon torpedo just might loosen their lips. If not he still had a full compliment of quantum torpedoes at his disposal. The fact no one took any decision and the situation become more tense started to cause Tho'var to wonder if there was any time left to take one. He couldn't wait anymore for a deliberation. He had to act on the assumption his superior where as undecided as he was. Examining the situation, it was unlikely two engineers, a science officer and an ambassador could hold on against several armed and well trained people. Not without mentioning, they also had three of their enemies unconscious in the room. They also all knew that the control room was crucial for the USS Rosenante to go back to its space. They could not lose it. With the lack of experience and military expertise, it was safer taking no risk. "Commander, ensign. Cover me." (Reply Matrix, Maddox). Tho'var examined what was left from the exploded computer console. He also checked the room and his equipment and gathered everything that could trigger an explosion. Shooting a few times in direction of the enemies, he took place back to where he was hiding a few seconds earlier. Then, he examined the door of the control room were the explosion happened. Luckily, it damaged the wall. Examining the wall intregrity, he found a weakness in it. "Cover me again." (reply Matrix, Maddox, Turner) Tho'var moved to where the computer exploded. He installed the different pieces he found and took some distance. "Take cover." he said. He shot in direction of the enemy to cover their movement and once they were far enough, he shot at maximum power towards the improvised explosive. The device exploded, damaging even more the wall. As he hoped, pieces of the wall fall to pieces and fall down on the floor. The higher part of the entrance was still open, but the debris was covering enough space to prevent anyone from entering the control room. "This should buy us some times." He always found an issue talking with beautiful women, and Trill women were not exceptions. So he was supposed to crawl the jefferies tubes, even with his stature, repair the local problem that was causing bleed of power in some systems before it starts being a problem in the current situation and work with a woman? Coupled with the fact that sooner or later bridge crew would find out about the bleed if he wouldn't do it properly and the fact they could all be blown into smithereens any second by the alien station, the day just couldn't get any better, he thought. He dropped his bag, picked couple of tools. Slowly putting them down, he opened the lid on the wall, and typed something fast onto the panel console nearby, then dropped down, putting his head inside the circuitry in the wall. He didn't know why she's here, but considering she never saw herm he though she must be new around, learned the trade, so to speak, so decided to let her watch while he repairs. He was sure she would just get in the way anyway. "So, umm, who are you?" the young woman innocently asked "I am gorn." he fired like a rifle. Straight and simple. The sound came out muffled because his head was still in the wall. "No, duh, I mean, like, what's your name?" the young woman insisted. She was standing beside him, peeking inside to see just what was he doing. Szlacht had quite a bit of experience in weapon systems, and although power supply subsystems weren't his speciality, he was the closest nearby to repair it. Understanding that if he doesn't satisfy her curiousity, she would just continue boring him, he finally stopped, slowly pull himself out and looked back at the woman. "Sczar Szlacht Sizaris" not very amused gorn explained. "Oh, Im uhh, Deyu." she said making a face. For a second it seemed she didn't like her name, or perhaps was just consciouss for the fact that Gorn found other species' names non-sensical to them. She was indeed a very beautiful Trill woman, and Szlacht felt uneasy. He just looked at her face, crossing her eyes - something that was considered as a sign of acknowledgment between Gorns, and continued with his work. "Do you have like, you know, nickname? Something a little easier to pronounce?" she said, giving herself into his face. "The wrench." he said opening his right hand and signaling her to pass the wrench which was on the floor. "Umm..." she started, looking frantically left and right trying to figure out what's what. "The wrench, left of me, the big thing." he crudelly explained. She picked it up and came closer to the opening in the wall, passing the tool to Szlacht's opened right hand. She continued standing here, closer to him, so that she had an eye contact with him - he couldn't ignore her anymore. "Szlacht." he said trying to not pay attention to her, and once again satisfy her curiosity. He thought this would make her give him some space again. "I see. Zzlak. Did I pronounced it right?" she said Szlacht just let out a long sigh. Whatever, even Zzlak was better then constantly asking him how to properly pronounce it. Besides, there weren't many trills capable of properly pronouncing Gorn names anyway. "They call me the queen." she explained with a puffy face. "You.. know why?" she asked. "Uhuh." he said. He lied. He wasn't really paying much attention. "Oh, so you know. Cool. I guess." she quickly explained, blushing, trying to get out of uncomfortable situation. Everyone would call her the Queen because of her awful and quite loud singing in the sonic showers - that could be heard through the walls. "The.. the.. pass me that thing for plasma. It's in my bag, the blue." he clumsily explained. He wasn't good with names. "Oh, you mean this?" she asked, having the Plasma Regulator in her hands, but not passing the tool to him, meaning he had to move out of the wall to see what's that, beating the purpose of passing in the first place. "Yes, that." he explained sighing. At least he didn't have to explain every little detail to her. He passed back the wrench to her, and she neatly packed it in his bag. Several moments passed in silence but the woman wouldn't let it be for long. "So, would you like to meet our crew? After the shift we all go crazy with a poker!" she fired like a cannon. She didn't feel comfortable in the long silence moments. "You'd love it, trust me. Everyone does." she started again. "No." "Ouch... why so grumpy?" the woman said, visibly offended. "Here to do my work. Not make friends." he simply explained. "That's cool, because we're totally not friends." she said. "Anyway, where was I..." she started out again "...we have this big table..." she started and Szlacht started rolling his eyes as best as a Gorn could. "and we like betting on the stuff the major officers are gonna do funny and stuff like that. It's so amusing." she said. However, there was nothing amusing in the way she said it. Not one bit. It didn't seem Szlacht was paying any real attention to her, however. Deyu started in a whisper "We have even... you know, some real booze there and not that junk synthehol. I'm sure you're more then acquainted with the real stuff." she said all full of herself. ~What is that supposed to mean, anyway.~ he asked himself. "Can you stop talking so much and concentrate on the work?" he half-yelled "Alright, Alright! Shesh, stop hissing at me so much." she counter-attacked "I'm not hissing, I am talking." He explained in a cold manner. He wasn't about to be dragged into a debate. "Wow, the difference. Okay, sorry, that didn't come out as I wanted it. Most likely it isn't even funny to you. Um not trying to say you have a bad sense of humor or anything..." the woman just couldn't stop talking. Szlacht let out a long drawn out sigh from the depth of his lungs. Suddenly smashing his head with the first tool didn't sound as bad as it usually would. "Work!" he yelled, pointing his claws towards the malfunction in the circuitry. He was visibly annoyed. And indeed, it seemed to work. He was half-unsure what he did, but it definitely worked. "Computer, what is the efficiency of this node?" Deyu asked, while the Gorn was having some difficulties pulling his hands and head out of the wall. When he stood back up, Deyu was smiling. It would seem the node was working close to a hundred percent. Not perfect, but more then enough for the time being. After all, most of the crew were on battlestations. "Okay, I'm so glad we done this. Um, are you free after the shift on wednesday?" she asked as if they have all the time in the world for a chat. "No." "Oh okay, what about friday?" she insisted. "No." "Ehm, and what about Sunday?" she wouldn't let it pass. "No. No, and no!" he finally yelled "Ohkay, alright, you don't have to yell at me. Mr Grumpy." she said making a sad face. Szlacht started crawling back through the small tubes. He didn't appreciate Federation starship layouts and internal sizes. While they were more then enough for most species, he felt almost claustrophobic. Szlacht couldn't wait enough to be done with this work and get back to whatever he was supposed to do next. Despite Deyu's best trying, it didn't come that good to Szlacht. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (Alien Station -ATAC Ensign (sg) Jessica Signos - Day 1 - 2400) She had just tried to get communication with the away team when the voice of the newcomer to the Rose came from behind her. "I bet you are shortie" C'Nell forced the Joke though and it didn't come naturally. "I know its a curse." Jessica replied keeping the light hearted moment. She went back to trying to get communication with the away team. "Their no response from the away team." Jessica replied angrily. (reply Rashen, iyw) "Ensign, I would suggest that there is a jamming field in place, we should immediately proceed with firespeed caution" C'Nell spoke. Fire speed... the word rang though Jessica's mind and stuck Lily to the core. They knew only one organization that used that term. Who was this newcomer, was he an agent, was he here to observe her, was he here to bring her back to Section 31. After all once one was Section 31 agent you were an agent for life, the only way out was death and C'Nell was very much alive. Then she remembered what happened last time Section 31 came for her. The horrific torture she had to endure, the realization on how her parents were murdered, and the truth behind the living weapon she was trained to be. A knife slid slowly into her hand, if C'Nell was a S31 agent she would not give him the opportunity to destroy the new life she and Lily were building for themselves. It would be quick painless, she readied herself. ~Noooo~ The thought pierced Jessica's mind and held her hand, as she felt a hand on her shoulder. It may of been Rashen or it could of been Lily's hand she felt. She then felt Lily's arms around her. ~No, Jessica we are no longer this way, don't destroy what we have built. For the first time in our life we are doing what we please. This is what Section 31 would want... Don't do it.~ Lily spoke in Jessica's mind. Lily knew Jessica's pain, knew that Section 31 wanted and had tried to kill Jessica's personality so Lily could inherit her body, knew the pain Jessica felt seeing her parents die but having the memory suppressed. Knew the rage that flowed though her. She also knew that there was far more that Section 31 had done to her that was still locked away from her. If Jessica knew all that Section 31 had done to make her the weapon she was it would destroy her. With a great amount of personal effort Jessica stowed her knife and looked around, before speaking, "Then we have no time to waste, I'll take point." and with that Jessica moved out down the corridor watching for any hostile or friendlies. has she passed C'Nell her eyes, like daggers scanned over him trying to read his intent behind the outer exterior he showed. She know had a reason to not trust him. (reply C'Nell, Rashen) (Posted by Matthew Locke)
