It had taken months for his recovery to begin; his legs had been blown off and lost forever. His artificial limbs didn’t want to cooperate with his body and he had come to understand, he didn’t want them to, he was angry, bitter and upset. That was two months ago. Since then, he’d managed to fight his way back, to get his legs to work and to come to terms with the anger he felt, guilt had also played a big part in his difficult recovery, but the fact the Spectre would be in good hands, T’Vhor would make sure the ship would continue the fight. In this reality, the Alpha Quadrant hadn’t gone to war with itself, they were still recovering with the war with the Dominion and the yards were working at full strength, repairing and creating new ships and systems for the exploration of the galaxy. It was all a little different for Remae, he knew the civil war was continuing, he had to get back… Admiral Jopek, CO of Utopia Planitia had done his best, but the technology didn’t exist as far as they knew and when the Bajoran had heard that, it began his realisation that he’d better get off his butt and make a life for himself in this universe, he’d done that the best he could. He’d taken command of the USS Firebrande, the research and development ship of the fleet yards, Galaxy class but modified and remodified to test new deigns, new ideas and in the case of tomorrow’s test flight, a new type of warp drive. “Another ale, Captain?”, asked Marnie, the owner of the bar he’d been frequenting lately. All the civilians around never really fit in with Remae’s idea of Starfleet but they were the best in their fields. “Not tonight Ms Ferenc, we have the warp trials tomorrow; not that it’s a secret, the entire place was taking about it.”, he said before adding, “Weren’t you going to be providing lunch for all those Admirals before departure? I’ll most likely see you in the morning then.”,he said draining his class before calling it a night. (USS Firebrande, Bridge, Captain Remae Ktell – 07.00) “The Spiral Geometry Drive will be the next stage in exploration for the Federation.”, said Doctor Dervin, Tanya was used to giving these kinds of speeches, but Remae hadn’t remembered her being so nervous. She was the top in her field in Warp Theory, UP’s very own Warp Technologies Officer and inventor of the SGD or the ‘Twister’ as the crew had come to call it. “This drive actually creates a controlled wormhole, thanks to the extension of the warp plasma conduits along the side of the hull, leading to the deflector array, we can open a wormhole, the only limitations in the distance travelled will be if the ship enters uncharted space, you could in theory travel to the edge of long range sensor scans, stop, take another scan and create a new wormhole to continue your journey.”, she explained carefully showing a presentation of the drive performing in tests. The image of the Firebrande was on display, blue warp plasma ran down the entire length of the hull on both sides, converging on the deflector dish. “The dish sends out a subspace beam that cuts and opens a small hole leading to a deep layer of subspace, deeper than warp, transwarp or other tunnelling forms of travel.”, she said as the demonstration continued to show the ship jumping to warp, a beam coming out of the dish and a wormhole opening in front of the ship before it was engulfed and it disappeared. “We don’t know the speed or range of the wormhole but we do know the costs of this drive, the entire warp engine, the warp matrix and the plasma conduits had to be redesigned totally. This will limit normal warp speeds and the power drain would be extreme, so far, the warp core on the Firebrande is running at 125% just to initiate the subspace spiral.”, she finished up, although tempted to go into real details, she stopped. This was a briefing for a bunch of Admirals who didn’t know a warp core from a warp initiating submatrix… Remae was listening carefully for good reason, the SGD was his ticket back to the dimension of the galaxy he had left, not that anyone knew about it, or his plans but as soon as he had heard about this idea, he had made sure he was going to get command of the ship and do all he could to make the ship change his dimensional outlook and get him back. (USS Firebrande, Bridge, Captain Remae Ktell – 09.00) =^= You are clear for the warp test, Captain =^= Jopek was as Vulcan as ever but Remae felt a little sorry, he was going to let him down but that was going to have to be the price, he had to return. “Understood Admiral, Remae out.”, he said and CONN reported they had departed the docking station and were heading out, the Bajoran had waited long enough and he pressed a button on his command console, a button he’d been programming for days, a button that was going to execute a number of commands. He pressed the button and without warning every transporter on the ship, on the starbase, on the shuttles and on the surrounding ships energised, transporting over 1,000 people off the Firebrande at the same time. Ten seconds later, he was totally alone. “Computer, command Remae Alpha One.”, he said and the computer complied, shields went up, the warp drive came online and they jumped to warp one. (Reply from NONE) (Posted by Anthony Keen) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Firebrande, Bridge, Captain Remae Ktell – 10.30) The ship was running at low warp, Doctor Dervin wasn’t joking around when she said the traditional warp drive would be less effective in the new configuration. Remae was running the risk of being caught by the ships in pursuit of the Firebrande but he wasn’t far from his goal, a red giant star that was reasonably local to Utopia Planitia and Earth. His plan was to create a wormhole that passed near to the star, and he was going to play havoc with the wormhole geometry, if his calculations were correct, it would push him through the subspace barriers of the universe. In fact, he had no idea at all if this would work, most of his calculations were based on accidents and other natural events in the history of Starfleet’s records. One thing he had to do was being in Engineering to initiate the wormhole. (USS Firebrande, Engineering, Remae Ktell – 11.00) Remae had left his commbadge on the bridge, he knew that Starfleet wasn’t going to be happy with him, as per usual, he doubted a new command would be waiting for him when he got back… more than likely, another court marshal. The doors opened into the empty Engineering section, the core pulsed away as per normal… perhaps a little faster than normal but the sheer fact that this core was different than any other that he had seen always took him by surprise. In order to power the deflector dish and initial the spiral needed, the core actually rotated slightly and attached to a different set of plasma transfer conduits, these route the power to the deflector dish. “Computer, prepare to activate the Geometry Drive.”, he said as he entered the entry and exit points close to the red giant, everything has been calculated long before he had stepping onto the ship, all he needed to do was engage the drive. The core shutdown and began to turn… it was like watching the hands of a clock move, it was slow. With the core offline, the ship was decelerating but it wasn’t too long before it connected to its second set of injectors, the core came back to life, it was at a strange angle but it was powered up again. Remae turned on a monitor, it showed the forward view of the ship, a beam of energy was shooting out the front, from the dish, it was digging into subspace and before Remae knew what had happened, the beam had opened a hole in space, the Firebrande was inside the wormhole, inside the blue vortex travelling at quite a speed. Something shook the ship, it slammed Remae into the wall… whatever was happening, it was taking over his existence, white was engulfing him and he passed out. (Reply from NONE) (Posted by Anthony Keen) ======================================================================================================================== (Starbase Geneva, Café, Commander Remae Ktell – 15.30) Remae had chosen a quiet corner of the café to await the arrival of his new assignment, the USS Paladin. He’d been onboard Geneva for the better part of a week. The past few months since his return had been hard. He’d told the truth to his superiors once the Firebrande had arrived; he’d surrendered himself and the ship and was immediately taken into custody. The 52nd fleet commanders had taken quite an interest in the ship and its new drive, but they were also interested in removing Remae’s commission and in a quickly arranged a hearing, it was decided that he was a good, experienced officer that could be used in the fleet and in the civil war, a demotion was ordered and if it wasn’t for testimony from Admiral Jopek, Admiral LoDona and other flag officers, the Bajoran’s days would have been over in the 52nd Fleet. He’d been kept close at hand on Geneva but he’d taken a fancy as to watching the ships dock and he’d taken a table close a window where he could watch the arrival of the USS Paladin, one of the most massive creations he’d ever seen, watching it dock was simply amazing. However, over the weeks he’d been waiting, he’d been keeping a close eye out for the Spectre or another Spectre class, news wasn’t easy to come by and so far, he'd not heard anything or see anything. (Starbase Geneva, Café, Commander Remae Ktell – 15.45) Time had passed and it was time for him to return to return to his duties… he was looking at the PADD that still showed his new orders for him, to report to the Paladin’s Captain as First Officer one hour after the ship arrived. Presumably to give the crew a chance to settle in and for any important briefings to take place. The status board showed that the ship had indeed just docked at one of the external docking ports, he decided to take a pod out to get a good view of the ship, a lazy ride in the one man pod would give him a real idea of this ship actual size and what he was in for. On the main view screen Starbase Geneva could be seen in the distance as the Paladin approached at impulse. One month into their journey back to Federation space they had stumbled upon a previously undiscovered branch of the subspace river. It had cut months off of their return trip, but it had still taken weeks in the river to make it back to Geneva. The month leading up to their discovery of the river had been an extremely interesting one. Commander Capps had been severally injured, Lt. O'Connor had later come down with a serious illness and both had to take medical leave to recuperate, but with the support of the rest of the senior staff they had managed to make it back in one piece. ~Feels good to be back.~ Eva thought as she stood. "Open hailing frequencies," She said, taking a step toward the view screen. "Geneva Control, this is Captain Straton of the USS Paladin requesting permission to dock." There was a slight pause before the speakers came to life with a reply. =/\=Paladin this is Geneva Control. You are clear to dock at external dock six. Fleet Command has requested your presence here on Geneva as soon as you dock Captain Straton, and welcome home.=/\= "Acknowledged," Eva replied then nodding to terminate the channel. "You heard the man external dock six. Take us in." (Reply ALL) (posted by Wes) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin, Bridge, CO Captain Eva Straton, 1540) The Paladin finished docking, Eva tapped a command on her arm opening a comm channel to Engineering. "Captain Straton to Lt. Matrix," She said, "Lt. I'd like you to coordinate and oversee any repairs we might need while at Geneva. Have list of needed supplies ready for Lt. Adams as soon as possible." (Reply Matrix) Eva closed the connection then looked up at Lt. Adams at OPS. "Lt, I want you to compile a list of needed supplies for all departments and send it along to Geneva OPS. We might as well re-supply our stores while we are here, as well as implement repairs. Update the ships roster and have any new senior officers report directly to me. Establish a rotation for shore leave as well. I don't plan on being here long before heading back to the front, but might as well allow the crew some down time while we are here. Also inform medical to transport Commander Capps and Lt. O'Connor as well as all other long term wounded to Geneva medical." (reply Adams) "Lt. Menelian," She said turning toward her TAC\SC. "I want you and Ensign Trei to maintain strict security measures. Coordinate your efforts with Geneva Security. We need to be on guard for possible saboteurs." (Reply Menelian) "Lt. Brownlee, I would like you to work with Lt. Matrix on any possible upgrades we can make to the ships sensors. They just might give us an edge in the middle of a fire fight." (Reply Brownlee) She turned back toward the main view screen and a small half smile crossed her face at what she was about to say next. "And one last thing. I expect EVERYONE to take a little RnR themselves. A little down time will do all of us some good. No telling when we will get this opportunity again, so take advantage of it while you can, and that IS and order." She stood then and tugged on her uniform top. "Lt. Adams, you have the CONN. I will be in my Ready Room." She then turned and walked across the Bridge and into her Ready Room. ~Have to decide what I am going to do for my RnR. "Docking successful," stated Adams to the rest of the bridge after getting a nod from their navigation officer. It had been two weeks since Adams had taken over the Chief of Operations from Lieutenant O'Connor, who was currently recovering from a serious illness in the Paladin's sick bay. It had been a whirlwind two months since requesting the transfer to operations from engineering. The discovery of the subspace river cut several months off their trip and it was good to be back. Captain Straton's voice broke the lieutenant's thoughts and he whirled around in his seat. "Lt, I want you to compile a list of needed supplies for all departments and send it along to Geneva OPS. We might as well re-supply our stores while we are here, as well as implement repairs. Update the ships roster and have any new senior officers report directly to me. Just drop the information in there once you have it. The Captain said we will only be here a few days before we head back out to the front." =^=Thank you Lieutenant. I would also like any updates from all departments on any last minute upgrades or repair requests by 2200 tomorrow. Could you alert all departments on behalf of engineering?=^= "I'll include that in my message to department heads." =^=Very well,=^= replied Matrix. "Adams out." The lieutenant closed the comm channel with another touch of his badge and returned to his workstation. A few taps and he had set up a database to collect all the inventory that needed re-supply. "Computer, relay the following message to all department heads: 'Chief of Operations to all department heads. I've created an inventory database called RESUPLY-24070402. Please put all inventory needs in there by 1200 hours tomorrow and I will get Geneva to re-supply in the next twenty-four hours. Engineering needs to know about any upgrades and repair requests by 2200 tomorrow. Please coordinate with one of the engineering officers. Adams out.' Computer, end recording and send." (reply Weir, Menelian, Matrix, Brownlee iyw) After completing the task, Adams set about creating a schedule for shore leave. Which, was no small task for 8,600 members of the crew. But, a simple random bin sort algorithm where at least a fourth of the crew was still on board at all times and he had it. He sent this out to everyone's computer terminal, so that they knew the schedule for their shore leave. "Adams to Doctor Weir," stated Adams with a touch of his comm badge. No telling when we will get this opportunity again, so take advantage of it while you can, and that IS and order." ~Rest and Recreation. I wouldn't need it if I were still in my fighter.~ Menelian thought with resignation. He stepped back from the Tactical console and gestured to his relief, "Watch it." He said. "Make sure this console is still here when I get back." There wouldn't be that much to do at the base anyway. He tapped his badge, "Menelian to Trei, be in my office in fifteen minutes. "I'll order you a cake and organize our units to sing joyous hymns for you. I, on the other hand, don't trust anybody that I haven't known for at least ten years... and not even many of them." Menelian sat in his chair and folded his hands together. His brow furled as he looked at his young Assistant Chief. "Therefore, we'll have multiple teams covering ALL of the debarkation points. We'll have rotating teams in ALL of the transporter rooms. Further, we'll have two squads on duty on Geneva to supplement their security force and to watch our own crew-" he poked a pale green finger at Trei "You will be in charge of liaising with Geneva's Security Department and arranging it. We don't take no for an answer, remember that as well." He refolded his hands together. "We'll also use this time to train those units that ARE still on duty. And I want extra roving patrols through the ship, just in case somebody manages to slip through our cordon at the gates and gets onto eh ship to sabotage her. Dying because a bomb was stuck to our warp core and we were too lazy to find it... wouldn't make me happy. In fact, if anyone gets on this ship that shouldn't be, I'll get down-right cranky." (reply: if desired) The Romulan watched the ensign leave, then shook his head and walked over to his safe. They just didn't make Ensigns like they used to. He pulled out a few PADDS from his secure drawer in the safe and sat back down behind his desk, he had some work to do. (USS Paladin - Security, TAC/SC's Office - Lt Menelian - 1906) =^=Lt. Rath to Maj- Lt. Menelian,=^= Menelian, sitting straight-backed as always, quirked his eyebrow slightly and replied with a dry, "Go ahead, Lieutenant." =^=Lieutenant, I was curious if you would be free for a little fighter practice on the fighter holodeck latter this evening. That's assuming of course you haven't lost your edge sitting behind a tactical console these past few months. Think you still got what it takes to take on your old XO in a little one on one? Imogene seems to think your getting rusty sitting behind that tactical console." [Like an old Targ.] Menelian put his PADD down, now both his eyebrows were pencil thin and straight, as his old FSXO continued with: "Lieutenant, you know as well as I do that you need to log a specific number of flight hours, both simulation and real, in order to keep your wings. I've check and you have not logged enough simulation flight hours or actual flight hours. Here is your chance to log some simulation flight hours. We could do it one on one or I could assemble the Dragon Slayers and the Fighting Whatever's and we can do it squadron against squadron. Either way it gets you out from behind that tactical console for a bit. What do you say?" The Romulan chewed on that for a couple as he brought up his monitor and his logged flight hours. He still had thirty days, but logging fifteen hours of flight time in thirty days wasn't as easy as it sounded... not when one had to keep track of a veritable empire of Security personnel on a ship the size of a medium sized Starbase. "Very well." He said a couple of moments later. "I'll meet you in the Fighter Holodecks in twenty-five minutes. Unlike others, I have real duties I must be sure are covered before I play." He cut the channel with the closest thing to a joke he'd ever make in public. Rath was a good fighter pilot, she just tended to be a little to familiar for Menelian's taste. But then, she wasn't Romulan, so he didn't expect perfection. He wouldn't need a flight suit for the simulation; he could have one replicated directly to fit his size. He put his PADDS back in secure lockup and tapped his badge as he was leaving the office, "Lieutenant Menelian to Ensign Trei and the Security Situation Desk. I will be in Training for the next two hours; I only want to be bothered for an emergency." It had taken over an hour to complete his visual inspection of the Meredith Class Vessel. He hadn't seen one before but he had heard about these mobile starbases and what they could do and he wasn't going to waste a chance to look one over. His time was now up, however, it was time to dock and report in to the Captain. He'd figured enough time had gone by to let the CO and Bridge crew get their post docking chores out of the way, so he opened a hail to the Paladin. "USS Paladin Operations, this is Commander Remae Ktell requesting permission to dock.", he said clearly. The queue of vessels coming and going was impressive but his little pod wasn't going to take up a lot of room and he was sure someone would make good use of it. (Reply from Paladin) "Understood", was all he said as he moved the pod towards one of the single small docking bays, it wasn't long before he was docked and asking permission to come aboard. (USS Paladin, Secondary Shuttle Bay, Commander Remae Ktell - 17.15) Remae was aboard at the bottom of the ship, he had a small bag and he walked down the docking bay, crewmembers were buzzing around, occasionally looking his way but noone seemed to pay him a lot of attention. (USS Paladin, Ready Room, Commander Remae Ktell - 17.23) After being called into the room, he came to a slight attention and announced to his new CO, "Captain Straton, Commander Remae Ktell reporting onboard.", he said waiting for a reply from his new CO. Being stuck for three months on the same ship without a change in surroundings can leave one feeling depressed. Sure holodecks help, but there's nothing better than getting out and walking around. It definitely wasn't home, but that feeling of being safe and away from the war came over the lieutenant. The starbase's promenade was fairly crowded with the influx of people from the Paladin and a handful of other transport vessels. Adams had to side step a few people just to get across to a replimat for a quick drink before continuing his wandering around the starbase. He looked down at one of the tables and saw a familiar face looking up at him: a Bajoran in his mid-twenties wearing a black Starfleet uniform with blue stripes. "Taban!" exclaimed Adams with a smile on his face. Ensign Fala Taban returned the lieutenant's smile and stood up and shook both hands with him. "How are you doing, Chris?" he asked sitting back down. Adams sat down with him at the table. "Good. Good. What are you doing here?" "I've been transferred to the Paladin. I'm going to be working in Stellar Cartography. Looks like you have moved up in the ranks quickly," stated Fala pointing up at the neck area alluding to Adams's second pip. "Yea. I'm the chief of operations on the Paladin now. Our former chief came down with an illness a couple weeks back and I had to fill in. We were sling shot hundreds of light years from here and just got back. Come and I will give you a tour of the ship." "Maybe later," said the Bajoran taking another sip of his tea. "Chris. I have some news and I must give it to you in private." "What is it?" asked Adams excitedly. "Not now. In private." "Okay. Let's start our tour and we can start with my quarters." The both stood up and started walking back to the airlock where the Paladin was docked. (USS Paladin - Deck 9, Personal Quarters Lieutenant JG Adams - Lieutenant JG Christopher Adams - 1727) Lieutenant Adams and Ensign Fala walked into the chief operation officer's personal quarters. Adams was getting really anxious wanting to hear what Taban had to tell him. "Okay," said Adams impatiently as the door slid shut. "What's all the secrecy?" "It's about you mom, Chris," said the Bajoran looking into Adam's eyes a serious look on his face. "What about her?" "President Doenitz has ordered the families of conspirators rounded up and detained in facilities away from the rest of the population. The conditions at these places are deplorable. They remind me of the places my grandmother told me about during the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. She's has been picked up and moved to one of these camps." The room became quiet as Adams took in the news. A single tear rolled on the outside of his round face. "I…I…don't believe you," said Adams in a quiet raspy voice. "She's tried to get word to you, but ever since you graduated from the Academy, you've been impossible to get a hold of. For all intensive purposes, you just disappeared. I found out about your mom's situation and I've been trying to find you for the past four months. When I heard you were on the side of LoDona and posted to the Paladin, I tried my best to get transferred to this post as soon..." "I have to do something," interrupted Chris. "I have to go back to Earth and rescue her." "There's nothing you can do about it. If you go back Doenitz's forces will capture you and what help would that be?" "What about dad?" asked Adams desperate for solutions. "Chris," Fala paused looking at Adams right in the face. "Your dad is back working for Starfleet Tactical which is under Admiral Doenitz's control. He was probably the one that tipped them off to her." Adams picked the football off his bed and forcefully threw it across the room. There was a crash as a few things fell of his desk after being hit. He was now breathing heavy trying not to let all the emotions he was now feeling to bubble to the surface. "Look. Chris. I know your mad, but…" "Mad is only half of it," responded Adams through clinched teeth. "Ever since my parents divorced, he's been trying to punish her. Well, he finally got his wish, but at what price Taban? What price?" "I'm going to leave and let you sort things out," explained the Bajoran. "I hate to be the one that had to bring this to you, but I've been trying to get in touch ever since I found out. If you need anything, let me know. We are now serving on the same ship, so I'm here for you, buddy." With that, Fala walked out the door leaving Adams looking down at the floor trying to figure out what his next move was. (USS Paladin - Deck 1, Outside Captain's Ready Room - Lieutenant JG Christopher Adams - 1752) Still reeling from the news his long time friend Fala Taban had given him, Lieutenant Adams was now determined to leave the ship and go back to Earth to rescue his mother. Now the toughest part of his journey: asking for a leave of absence from Captain Straton. He stood outside her ready room for almost two whole minutes contemplating what he was going to say. Several people on the bridge stared at him wondering why he wasn't moving. Finally, he reached up and touched the door chime. (reply Straton) The doors swooshed open and Adams entered the captain's ready room. He walked up to the desk along the wall and looked down at the captain with a serious look on his face. The only news we get from the front is one planet falling after another. And where are we? Patrolling the Neutral Zone. Helping out aliens. Getting pushed over two months away by who knows what. What are we doing? Are we in a war or aren't we? The Paladin is one of the most sophisticated ships in the fleet and she's sitting on the sidelines. I understand my duties, but how can I feel like I'm contributing to the libration of the United Federation of Planets, when the ship I'm on is sitting on the sidelines?" "Computer, take a message and send it to all senior staff." [Standing by.] "You are hereby invited to a masquerade to take place on Stardate 2407.04.03 at 18:00 in Holodeck 2 to celebrate our return to the Federation. Dress code is formal black tie. She had got caught up with things on the Paladin. She cursed her self as she saw Kenneth sitting at a table by a large window. “Nice to see you timing has improved. Its good to see you, pilots are good at reading chronometers. I‘ve ordered for both us both as you were late.” She saw that irritating grinned spread across his face. Her scowled at him as she sat dawn. ~You are such a smug git aren’t you~ “You just watch it. If you want air support when you stuck on some unforgiving planet. You’ll want us pilots to save your worthless hide.” She paused as the food arrived and began eating. “Have your heard anything from the Mafia lately?” It was their family nickname as there was a Smith in nearly every position in Starfleet. “Did you hear the Scott’s got a ship.” ~That’s good. At least it will stop him from moping at home~ “Really so the passed the Academy. They must be slacking.” She grinned with him “He’s a position as a junior engineer on the Steel Talon.” ~Really that’s amazing~ “No. Good for him. Ow have you heard from Spooky Jo lately?” Kenneth shook his head. “No to recently, why have you?” “She sent me a letter. She’s on the Spectre doing her SIF stuff?” “Do you think she will stay at in the SIF?” ~Just coz your feeling lonely being the only marine~ “What and go back to being a Marine again. Why would she want to do that.” She met Kenneth’s hard stair with a slight grin. “Are you saying that there is anything wrong with being a marine.” She could see he was about to start to protest so she grinned even more just to irritate him. “There has been Marines in our family since time immemorial. It was you lot who went to the fleet and joined the dark side.” Jennifer smiled sweetly at him and continued eating. “You heard about Roberts digression with the law?” “No, tell me what happened?” ~He’s not going to like this~ “He got accused of being a traitor.” Kenneth slammed his hand down on the table and snarled. “That’s preposterous. He would not do that. He might like computer more then people but not a traitor.” ~You can’t protect him all the time~ Jennifer put her hand up. “Calm down Kenneth, No but a spy hacked into his PADD and used his authorisation codes to send messages to the enemy.” Kenneth groaned and she showed that she felt the same way. “Not his PADD.” ~Yep his wonderful PADD~ “You know that he trusts that thing to much don’t you.” Jennifer nodded and sighed. ~He spends to much time with computer he really should get out more~ “Heard any thing from the others.” Jennifer shook her head. “Any way. How did you get with the ‘Troubled Brains‘.” ~Go one push some buttons~ “It’s ‘Troubled Minds’. I joined them about a month before they were transferred here. They are good people. Would trust my life with any one of them and the Colonel is descent.” She suppressed a grin. ~Ow yes Troubled Minds, how stupid of me to have gotten it wrong~ “How about you. What are you doing on the Paladin?” ~Flying my back side off, that’s what~ “I’m in charge of a Mako fighter squadron called ‘Shark bait’.” Kenneth grinned. ~Don’t no what your grinning at~ “Good for you. Now you can fly around and still be late.” Jennifer shook her head. ~Ow he is so funny NOT~ “Well its good to know that the marines have not taken your brilliant sense of humour.” Kenneth chuckled. “Good isn’t it.” Jennifer shook her head. ~In your dreams~ (reply any) (posted by Robbie) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin - CSO's Office - CSO Lieutenant (jg) Joran Matthew Brownlee - 18:12) After staring at his computer screen looking over sensor schematics for hours, Joran finally sat back in his chair and rubbed his eyes. The heavy workload and one less engineering officer posed some serious issues with staffing. Many things would need to be automated at the expense of accurate supervision by a proper engineering team. Matrix thought he could tap some help from the Geneva. Their engineering crews were busy too, but they had a vast pool of specialists that could help and they were trained to assist starships. That was their job. The comm alert started Matrix. "Brownlee to Matrix." ~Damn it.~ said Matrix to himself as he dropped his PADD. "Matrix here. What's on your mind Mr. Brownlee?" replied Matrix "I apologize for being so short with you earlier, but I was in a bit of a hurry. His neck and back were starting to nag him. Matrix sat back, glanced at the time clock and rubbed his neck. ~Holly cow! I've been at this too long today. I need to stretch my legs a bit.~ Matrix got out of this chair and walked out of main engineering to the nearest turbo lift. There was a short wait while the turbo lift arrived. The doors opened. Matrix smiled at the cute crewman and entered. "Deck 68." said Matrix. A few moments later the cute crewman departed on deck 55 and glanced back at the Lieutenant as the turbo lift doors closed. ~Humm...deck 55...I'll have to remember that.~ said Matrix to himself. The turbo lift stopped at deck 68 and Matrix exited on the promenade deck. From this vantage point you could see the majority of the shops and restaurants and the mass of people enjoying the bars and market shops, but it was noticeably fewer people around. Most of those aboard were working on refit projects, restocking supplies or other projects. Many had left the Paladin for the comfort and bustle of the Geneva. That reminded Matrix that he too needed to get aboard the Geneva and relax when he could. After all he was home. The Geneva was his first post after graduating the Academy. He missed the Geneva's massive infrastructure, her capabilities and many of her crew. ~Perhaps tomorrow.~ he thought. Over the next twenty minutes Matrix walked deck 68 to get some 'fresh air' and stretch his legs. It was good to get out and away from work even for a little while. He enjoyed the work, especially the people. Matrix wasn't sure how to cope with the loss of another engineering officer, but hoped he would gain some help from the Geneva crew during their stay. Matrix found his favorite coffee house still open. Starbucks. He ordered a grande Verona and sat back and watched those walking by and working. Fifteen minutes had passed, ~Break over. Need to get back to engineering.~ thought Matrix. ~One thing to do yet while I'm thinking of it.~ said Matrix. =^= Matrix to Ensign Cohen and Ensign Rathyn. The one thing she really wanted to do at that moment was to go back to her quarters for a quick sonic shower then onto Geneva for a little R&R. A moment later, it was settled in her mind. She would check the readouts on the warp core first then head straight for that sonic. She picked up a PADD and stylus and began inputting readings. =^= Matrix to Ensign Cohen and Ensign Rathyn. She smiled slightly at that little irony since the temps inside the force field protected shell were almost that of the corona of a small sun. She raised a hand to her mouth against an unstifled yawn. Rest was becoming more needful. Stephiea Rath, 1905) Steph sighed as she looked over the stack of PADD's on her desk. She was swamped with re-supply and repair requisitions now that they had docked with Geneva, there was even a request for a number of replacement fighters to bring them back to full strength. They lost more than a few fighters in the last several fire fights the Paladin had been involved in and there was good money that she would see a lot more combat before things settled down. She rubbed her eyes and took a sip of her now cold coffee. She made a yuck face, while sticking her tongue out frowning at the offending cup of coffee. ~I've been at this for hours. I need a break.~ She thought setting down the cup of mud that use to be coffee. A sudden smile crossing her face as a thought came to mind. She entered some commands on her terminal screen checking a few things and nodded, her smile growing even more. ~Old pointy ears hasn't logged enough flight hours recently to keep his wings. Lets see if he is up for a little practice.~ "Computer transfer fighter AI's Imogene and Isis to the fighter holodeck matrix," She said, her smile growing. The computer beeped, confirming the AI transfer. "Lt. Rath to Maj- Lt. Menelian," She said, tapping her comm-badge, the smile clearly evident in her voice. "Think you still got what it takes to take on your old XO in a little one on one? Imogene seems to think your getting rusty sitting behind that tactical console. [Like an old Targ.] Imogene interjected into the conversation suddenly, drawing a good natured laugh from Steph. Steph coughed back her laugh and her voice took on a serious tone. "Lieutenant, you know as well as I do that you need to log a specific number of flight hours, both simulation and real, in order to keep your wings. I've check and you have not logged enough simulation flight hours or actual flight hours. Here is your chance to log some simulation flight hours. We could do it one on one or I could assemble the Dragon Slayers and the Fighting Whatever's and we can do it squadron against squadron.
