I have long believed that at the core of Every starfleet officer there must be truth. Truth to yourself, truth to others and truth even when truth is painful. Without truth, you have no business being an officer. We are fundamentally bound by nothing more than the truth of the oath that we took as officers when we graduated from the academy. Those words that promised that we would uphold the constitution of the federations, defend it, safeguard its citizens and property. That's the most powerful oath that I feel a being can take." He paused. "That said, you have violated that oath. You put federation lives at risk. You put the very Federation itself at risk and then you ask me for mercy?" Another pause. "Answer me truthfully Mister Maddox, why should I trust that the actions you took were a result of anything more than self-preservation?" Andrew admitted, “You have no concrete reason to trust my word at this juncture, and for the most part cannot trust me.” "You're right I cannot. And until you earn my trust and show me that you are worthy of it, I will not give it to you. Still, there is a chance that you are learning a valuable lesson from all of this. And so, I am willing to reduce the punishment that you will be faced with, and providing that you regain my trust and that you show me that you are sincerely learning from this experience something worth learning, I will continue to allow you to serve a light sentence. But you know me, and so I'm only going to say this one time." He paused for affect. "If you do not show that you are learning the right lesson, or that you are incapable of regaining my trust, you will regret the day that you failed to complete the task that the Borg designated for you. Are we clear?" “Crystal, sir.” He replied quickly. "Very good. Then listen up. Starting immediately you are reduced in grade to that of crewman, your commission as a Starfleet officer revoked. You will be held to maintain a 85% efficiency rating in your departmental status reports and performance reviews. You are restricted from recreational holodeck use until further notice. You will spend 24 hours of every week for the next month in the brig to remind you of your transgression, and you will be required to undergo psychological counseling with a ship's counselor at least once per week, unless released from this requirement by the supervising counselor. Failure to comply with any of these requirements will result in an immediate leveraging of all the original punishments I outlined for you under the captain's mast during our meeting yesterday." There was a pause before the Captain continued. "Now is the time to ask any questions that you may have. If you have none, then you are dismissed until your next duty shift crewman." “No questions, aye, sir.” He said and was about to move out smartly, until his father looked at him, it was clear that he wanted to speak with him. “I’ll see you later, Dad. My shift ends tomorrow at 1630 hours.” He said and moved out smartly. (Reply Salid, Maddox Sr.) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 2, 1210) Ahmed knew at that moment that he had not made the wrong mistake. He could see Andrew rise up to the challenge that he had put in front of him, and the captain of the Rosenante was certain that Maddox would come out of the ordeal a stronger and better man for it. Perhaps for the first time in his career, Andrew was going to have to do more than simply get by, or excel. He'd have to fend for himself, grow stronger both emotionally and mentally, and when it was over, Ahmed would see to it that he had his commission back. As the young science officer departed the compartment, Salid looked over at the Elder Maddox. "You should be more proud of your son now than you ever have before." he stated simply, "For the first time in his life he is making his own way, paying for his mistakes and growing into a fine man. I have no doubt that he will become a good and valuable officer. And that he will have gotten there without any doubt that he earned it on his own merit. He's quite a strong man, when he chooses to be." (reply Bruce Maddox) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Ready Room - Dean of Sciences, Daystrom Institute - Dr. Bruce Maddox – 1213) As Andrew left the ready room the Captain looked over at the Elder Maddox. He's quite a strong man, when he chooses to be." “I’d thank you for that but I don’t know if I had anything to do with it.” He responded rather evenly. (Reply Salid) “Seriously, I’ve gone toe to toe intellectually with numerous Flag Officers, and even one of the most formidable men to sit in a chair very similar to yours, Jean Luc Picard was not a timid man, and yet nothing scares me more than thinking I’d make a mistake raising Andrew.” He admitted. (Reply Salid) Bruce took another sip of the coffee that had now grown tepid instead of piping hot, and surprisingly it still had all of its flavor from before. “Quite right, Captain. However, joking aside have you ever thought of raising a child of your own?” (Reply Salid) “Well don’t wait too long. Before you know it time will creep up on you.” He warned the younger man. “Now, on to business.” Bruce announced. (Reply Salid) “Nothing so dastardly, no. I would hope this would be pleasant news. The Daystrom Institute has been working on a prototype sensor relay, and the corresponding search algorithms, all in bad need of proper field testing, and I was wondering your professional opinion on which ship in the 52nd fleet would be best suited to carry them.” Bruce offered. (Reply Salid) (Posted by Todd) ======================================================= (USS Rosenante - Captain's Ready Room - CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 4 - 1535) "I definitely understand that there was no alternative," Parker stated carefully. "But I'll make no presumption to know what it's like to send people to their death, as I haven't done so myself." Ahmed nodded, "Let us all pray that you are never forced to do so Counselor." "I think you probably agree with me that there's a difference between regret and remorse," Parker started. "Remorse is generally viewed as a reaction to having done something wrong. Regret is generally viewed as a reaction to having made a decision. From what you described, you feel remorse for the results of some of your decisions, but no regret for having made them. If I may ask you a question..." when he received no negative response he continued, "Do you believe in fate, Captain?" "That predisposes that there is no free will. I believe that there is a plan for all of us, but that we have a choice as to what path we follow, and that sometimes we choose to steps off the path that has been prepared for us, because although there is a plan, there is nothing that makes us fulfill that plan, and that only we decide the path that we take in this life. That path is in turn made up of the thousands of decisions that we make every day." "You probably would agree that it seems a cruel fate of those who were ordered to an assignment that would end their lives, of all the assignments that could have occurred. And plenty of people would tell you that they signed on for the job, they knew the risks, that there were no alternatives, and that their deaths saved countless other lives because they were instrumental in stopping the Borg." "Some people would, perhaps" Ahmed agreed, "but not I. I do not believe that there was never a choice. I believe that we always have a choice and that when we assume a position of authority that our choices affect those around us even more than if we had no authority. I made choices and I made calculations, and those choices had a very real affect upon the lives of those that served beneath me. I cannot and do not believe that an inexorable thread of fate determined for us who lived and who died out there." He shook his head. Parker sat back slightly and folded his hands. "Those answers don't fix your anger or your worry, though. But I'm going to propose that you shouldn't fix either." Ahmed nodded. "Agreed. otherwise what is there to learn from this experience. It is emotional growth that triggers moral growth and moral growl or lack of growth that makes us human. It is our capacity to take away powerful lessons from emotions that help us to adapt, remember and grow as sentient individuals. I am glad that you recognize that, Parker. It gives me a great deal of faith that you are well equipped to help this crew come to the same realization." (reply Parker) Daniel Greene ======================================================= (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - Lt (sg) Kitty Fisher - Day 5 - 1120) Kitty simply listened to the Commander and when he asked her if she had any questions she shook her head. However she did not stop there and began speaking. "Commander, with regard to the isolation, we have the prefect and secure place aboard this ship. The Rose has an isolation lab within but outside Main Sickbay that would be perfect for our use. As Acting CMO I decide who has access to it and who hasn't. This in itself may why Captain Salid suggested you contact me. It is a self contained lab with its own air supply that can be jettisoned either from inside or outside as is needed. Would this suit your purposes?" Have whatever staff you need there, and be ready to get there within a moment's notice, even if you have to beam in." Kitty simply nodded. "I know our Chief Transporter Technician, Dawson fairly well. I am sure that once I have a quiet word with him he can have a transporter lock put on me and have me beamed there as soon as I give the word." Watching him leave the office Kitty picked up the padd he had left and began to study it. (No reply needed) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Transporter Room 1- CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 5- 1302) Ahmed and a team of his marines waited in the transporter room fully armed and equipped, waiting for the call that should be coming any moment now. After the discussion with the O'Neills, Salid had started a detailed series of deep-penetrating scans on Geneva station. That when he noticed the gap in the floor plan. A small area that simply didn't register on the sensors. in his experience, there was only one reason for that, and it meant that the area was phased. The problem then presented itself, how could you reach a phased area. The answer was you couldn't not without knowing the exact phase variance, which would take a lot of specialized equipment and know-how to accomplish. So The captain had performed some studies, and determined that there was a rough pattern to the appearance and disappearance of the area in question. With a little help from an old friend in the security department on the base, they had managed to make arrangements to be notified when the phased area resurfaced. With the Marines was Eian O'Neill, his father Liam waited in the transporter room of the Kelman with a group of personnel that could be trusted. It may be over kill, but they had no real idea how many of the Section 31 officers were present in the relatively small area, and that meant that they couldn't under man the area. They'd been waiting for nearly twenty minutes, and Ahmed was beginning to think that he had misjudged, when the fateful call came through. =^=Geneva Security to Captain Salid and Captain O'Neill.=^= Ahmed tapped his commbadge as he hurried to the transporter platform. "Salid here" he said as he settled into position. =^=O'Neill here,=^= Liam answered. =^=This is Crewman Studell, Sirs. The subject has been located. The coordinates are being sent via interspace link directly to your PADDs. They will disappear after thirty seconds. What would you like me to do, Sirs?=^= "We're transporting in now, Crewman, once the area phases out, you'll need to watch for it so that you can notify Mister Dawson so we can transport out with our subject." Ahmed replied, then nodded at Dawson, who was holding the captain's PADD. (reply Studell iyw, Liam) "Energize mister Dawson!" Ahmed said without closing the channel. "Energizing sir!" Dawson replied, and Ahmed felt the familiar tingle of the transporter as it took hold of him. He knew that aboard the Kelman, Liam O'Neill and his team were on their way as well. He just hoped they would all rematerialize before the area phased out. (reply Liam & Eian O'Neill, Studell iyw, Signos, Hayden) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Security Office - Crewman Eric Studell - Day 5 - 1303) The security office was well aware of the standing order. It was an odd one, but everyone manning the base security feed knew exactly what they were to do if they were the ones who noticed the very specific biosigns appear. Eric Studell was eighteen years old, fresh out of basic training, on the second week of his very first assignment. He was supposed to watch the monitors for anything that indicated illegal activity was afoot, and then notify his direct superior officer. It seemed like a simple assignment, but he was constantly worried he'd miss something. And then there was that standing order. Out of all the crewman doing the exact same thing he was doing, he doubted his monitor would be the one that would notice the biosigns. Much to his surprise, it was his lucky day. The biosigns appeared, and he instantly shut down the feed and swallowed hard, his heart pounding as he hit his commbadge. He was not to notify his direct superior. The orders were clear, and everyone knew what they were. "Geneva Security to Captain Salid and Captain O'Neill." (reply Salid) =^=O'Neill here,=^= Liam answered. "This is Crewman Studell, Sirs. The subject has been located. The coordinates are being sent via interspace link directly to your PADDs. They will disappear after thirty seconds. What would you like me to do, Sirs?" (reply Salid) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Phased Out Place - ACEO Lt Eian O'Neill - Day 5 - 1308) Eian held his phaser rifle with a white-knuckled grip. He steeled himself for what he might find when he beamed in. Despite the fact that he and Jessica weren't speaking, that he felt betrayed and lied to, he still loved her and didn't want to see her hurt. Or worse. The blue sprinkles dissolved his world, and he found himself sending up an instantaneous, gut-reaction prayer that they would rematerialize in the phased-out location. When the blue disappeared and the hum of the transporter was gone, he found that his eyes needed to adjust to the dim lighting in the room before he could see anything. But then he saw her. She was on one knee, clutching her arm, but free of the bonds that were now hanging empty in the center of the room. His father's and his Captain's security personnel moved in first, and Liam placed his phaser rifle's butt longitudinally across Eian's shoulder, holding him back and making a silent gesture with his hand that told Eian to stay put. He complied, but the expression on his face was one of concern mixed with hurt and anger. He hated Section 31 for what they had done here, what was obviously going on. Torture...not only was it against the Starfleet code that they were apparently 'protecting', but it was also a deeply personal shot to Eian. He looked at Jessica, bruised and weak but alive, and he clenched his jaw. She may have betrayed him, led him to believe she was someone she wasn't, but she didn't deserve torture. She didn't deserve even a slight amount of the hell he had gone through. "What happens now? She goes back to Sickbay?" he asked either the Captain or his father. (reply Salid) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Phased Out Place - ATAC/SC Ensign (sg) Jessica Signos - 1325) Jessica and Lily saw the flash of light and heard the buzz of the teleporters has a goodly number of heavily armed marines entered the small space that the small wounded woman now found refuge in. ~ This is it.~ Both personalities thought. ~For either better or worse.~ Kneeling on the ground, her body tensed has Jessica tried to place has much distance between her and the troops that were closing around her. ~What to they want with us.~ Her mind cried. Not letting the marines get any closer to her than she could allow in her weakened form. She would strike at them if needed she would protect the sanctity of the lives that were contained in her body with all of her ability of a federation officer and a assassin. "Prove yourself to me friend or foe..." She said weakly, yet with a finality that made a few of the troops take a step back from the small form before them. For at this moment it was easy to see that she was more the wounded, wild animal, trapped in a corner. Than the calm, calculating, tactician that they saw fighting the Borg. With Lily's profile, with what the assassin was capable of when she threw away all disregard for life. It made this form of her even more dangerous, more deadly. (reply Salid, Eian, Liam.) She back her way into a corner before a voice, or was it several voice rose from beyond the ring of marines. It was then that Jessica and lily looked beyond the solders, the phasers, and armor to see the faces of friends. Each with a solidly grim face set into it. Each was not happy to be here in this circumstance Jessica and Lily could tell that easily, call it woman's intuition. But at seeing friends, especially Eian, made Jessica's stance relaxed ever so slightly. "So what happens now, are we to die, to be experimented on, be used for the amusement of medical science? Before I surrender willingly I want your assurance that neither of the personalities that find this body home will be harmed in any way." (reply has noted above.) "You can not abide by your word on this I will show you just how far the assassin in me can go." Even though her voice was weak, she spoke firmly. She had just gone though hell and no longer knew who she could trust. everything in her life was a lie. Surly if Section 31 did not want her dead then the federation intelligence would. It was true this was not how a federation officer would speak to a superior officer, But was Jessica and Lily a federation officer at this moment, or a section 31 operative, or something else entirely. She was hurt confused and no longer knew who or what she could trust. (reply has noted above.) She looked to Eian now a pleading look in her eyes. "If ever their was love between us, if that love can be saved from this calamity then to you and you alone I will summit and stand down." There was so much more she needed to tell him. So much more he needed to hear from her. Jessica loved him deeply and Lily realized that the love she carried for Eian would see her though the darkest of hells. Lily only hoped for Jessica's sake that he reciprocated those same feelings. For when there was no one else you could logically trust Jessica had chosen to trust in her heart. It was a tactic Lily never saw and never had though of, it would also be something she would never forget. (reply Eian, Liam, Salid) (posted by Matthew Locke) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Phased Out Place - CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid Day 5 - 1326) As they materialized, Ahmed raised his weapon to the ready stance. He was no marine or security officer, but he'd seen more than his fair share of conflicts and he realized how dangerous a rogue weapon like Signos could be. When you added the potential issues with section 31 personnel, Ahmed reasoned that there was no reason not to be cautious. The Marines approached her, especially cautious and they began to corral her. but they had their orders and they didn't press her too hard, they didn't want her feeling trapped and unable to control herself. Still even Jessica couldn't handle a dozen marines, even with her training and so, Ahmed was confident that Lily/Jessica would see the logic in refraining from violence, at least for the moment. "Hold your positions!" Ahmed ordered, when he felt that they had her hemmed in well enough to guarantee her capture. The marines stopped, ready to react should Jessica start to struggle. "Prove yourself to me friend or foe..." She said weakly, yet with a finality that made a few of the troops take a step back from the small form before them. "Ensign Signos. It's captain Salid, and Eian. We're here to rescue you." Ahmed answered, wondering whether she would believe him. "So what happens now, are we to die, to be experimented on, be used for the amusement of medical science? Before I surrender willingly I want your assurance that neither of the personalities that find this body home will be harmed in any way." "I will do whatever i can to keep you alive and healthy Jessica. you have my word. BUt I have to know what Section 31 has done to you. I have to be certain that you are not a threat, you understand that don't you?" He answered. "I need to know that Lily isn't going to get you killed." "You can not abide by your word on this I will show you just how far the assassin in me can go." You're coming back to the rosenante with us. No one will be able to get to you. NO one will harm you as long as I can prevent it. You have my word." She looked to Eian now a pleading look in her eyes. "If ever their was love between us, if that love can be saved from this calamity then to you and you alone I will submit and stand down." (reply Eian) Commander O'Neill was the next to act. He glanced at Eian and then at Salid in silent communication, as he put aside his weapon and took a few steps forward before crouching down into a catcher's stance, almost as if he were communicating to a child. "Jessica," he said, and clenched his jaw as he forced himself to also address, "Lily. No one here wants to hurt you. And we know you don't want to hurt us. You would only do that if you felt you had to. You don't have to." He glanced over at the bonds and shook his head. "What was done to you was...of unspeakable sin." (reply Jessica) "The only reason why I'm here--I promise--is because I want to see those responsible for this brought to justice," he said softly and slowly, his tone more that of a father rather than the commanding officer of a starship. "I know that's what both of you want as well. That's why you gave Eian the information on yourself. That's why you were willing to tell Captain Salid. And that's why I know you're going to come peacefully with me now." "We'll take you to the Rosenante's iso-lab. We need to run some tests--I'll be there the entire time." The commander continued. (reply Jessica) "Will you come with me?" Liam held out his hand, his facial expression one of hope. (reply Signos) Ahmed watched as things unfolded. Then one of the marines said something disturbing. "Sir the area has phased out again." And that was when all hell broke loose as some of the Section 31 operatives opened fire from concealed positions. They had been wearing some sort of variable phased suit and it had allowed them to remain undetected until that moment. (reply Eian, Liam, Signos, Anyone wishing to play a marine or S31 operative for short fight.) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Phased Out Place - Marine NCO SSG Joe Rock Day 5 - 1328) The group materialized near the subject. Captain Salid ordered them to halt as he and Cmdr O'Neill spoke. Joe was old school - stun first ask questions later. Despite Salid's orders, Joe's finger tensed ever so slightly. In Rock's opinion things were taking too long. The room seemed to start dissolve and he shouted ""Sir the area has phased out again." And that was when all hell broke loose as some of the Section 31 operatives opened fire from concealed positions. They had been wearing some sort of variable phased suit and it had allowed them to remain undetected until that moment. "Damnation " Rock swore out loudly as he dropped to a knee and fired a blast and dropped a Section 31 operative. He jumped and tackled Salid as a blast screamed past their heads. (Reply: any) (Posted by: Bill W.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Phased Out Location - CMDR Liam O'Neill - Day 5 - 1332) "Prove yourself to me friend or foe..." "No one wants to hurt you, Jessica," Liam said calmly. She backed herself into a corner and looked very much like a frightened, injured animal. "So what happens now, are we to die, to be experimented on, be used for the amusement of medical science? Before I surrender willingly I want your assurance that neither of the personalities that find this body home will be harmed in any way." As Liam watched the situation progress, he realized it was rapidly deteriorating. Jessica didn't have the strength to fight, having been kidnapped while recovering from her wounds and then subsequently mentally and physically tortured for what had to be almost twelve hours now. She was trained as a Starfleet Officer, though, and a Section 31 assassin, and neither one of those easily surrendered when threatened. If she resisted, she'd be stunned into submission, and no one wanted that. But no one could provide assurance that she wouldn't be harmed, and time was running out to respond to her demand of asylum. "If you can not abide by your word on this I will show you just how far the assassin in me can go," she threatened. Liam pursed his lips. If she continued down this path, it was going to go south very quickly. He realized Eian had come to this conclusion as well, and could read his son's body language. He knew exactly what Eian was about to do when he turned his phaser rifle upside down and took a step forward. And then Jessica said the worst possible thing she could have. "If ever their was love between us, if that love can be saved from this calamity then to you and you alone I will summit and stand down." Eian already had forward momentum. Liam decided that instead of allowing his son to continue, he had no choice but to beat him to the punch. Plus, he thought he was uniquely qualified to diffuse this situation. He glanced at Eian and then at Salid in silent communication of what he was going to do. Then he laid down his weapon on the ground and took a few steps forward before crouching down in a catcher's position, as if he were communicating to a child. "Jessica," he said, and clenched his jaw as he forced himself to also address, "Lily. No one here wants to hurt you. And we know you don't want to hurt us. You would only do that if you felt you had to. You don't have to." He glanced over at the bonds and shook his head. "What was done to you was...of unspeakable sin." (reply Jessica) "The only reason why I'm here--I promise--is because I want to see those responsible for this brought to justice," he said softly and slowly, his tone still that of a father and not of the commanding officer of a starship. He went out on a limb, making a judgment that he hoped his son the profiler agreed with. "I know that's what both of you want as well. That's why you gave Eian the information on yourself. That's why you were willing to tell Captain Salid. And that's why I know you're going to come peacefully with me now." (reply Jessica) "We'll take you to the Rosenante's iso-lab. We need to run some tests--I'll be there the entire time." (reply Jessica) "Will you come with me?" Liam held out his hand, his facial expression one of hope. He honestly believed that Jessica would take his hand. He hoped he hadn't made an error in judgment, and wish that he had Eian's professional opinion on what her psyche was doing. Of course, in his biased state, he probably couldn't trust his professional opinion on Jessica. (reply Jessica) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Phased Out Place - ATAC/SC Ensign (sg) Jessica Signos - 1334) It was Liam that stepped forward from the ring of marines. "Jessica," he said, and clenched his jaw as he forced himself to also address, "Lily. No one here wants to hurt you. And we know you don't want to hurt us. You would only do that if you felt you had to. You don't have to." He glanced over at the bonds and shook his head. "What was done to you was...of unspeakable sin." "What's even a greater sin is to kill with out the full understanding of there situation and call it justified... You speak of unspeakable sin." Jessica spoke her voice rising in tone, has anger flooded though her of memories that have long since been suppressed. "That..." She motioned to the sling. "And what has occurred here is nothing compared to the horrors that I have come to know, now has the facts of my life." Jessica then turned to Salid, "You want to know that Lily will not get me killed..." She was silent for a moment, before she continued. "If it wasn't for Lily I would already be dead, on Dovek ll, on the Borg sphere, and now in that sling. Maybe it's hard for you to understand but Lily has been a force that has saved my life more than once. I can not turn my back on her. Even with the evils she has done, I can see, feel the good in her and now Section 31 no longer has the hold they once had over her." "The only reason why I'm here--I promise--is because I want to see those responsible for this brought to justice," Liam said softly and slowly, his tone more that of a father rather than the commanding officer of a starship. "I'm sure you will, but would that be seeing to my well being or to see the wonders of the Signos thread, or trying to unravel the intricacies of implanting a secondary personality into another mind?" She shook her head. "Has much has I want to believe you Liam, I can't to much has happened here and to me. I can barley believe my own memories. Much less place my trust into anyone else. Logically you all have a reason to see me to the grave, for no other reason than federation intelligence has ordered you to do so." She glanced around the circle, has she tentatively reached for Liam's offered hand. Jessica continued softly to speak her demeanor changed, she spoke almost has if speaking to a long lost loved one. "But what do you do when Logic betrays you. You must trust your heart and take a...." She was about to say chance. When the room exploded into rage and violence has the ghost team appeared their phase armor bringing them into reality once more. Phaser fire hissed and split the air between Liam's and Jessica's outstretched hands. Liam pushed himself forward bringing himself a top Jessica. The sound of battle raged all around her, her hands went to her ears trying to block the sound. It was happening all over again Section 31 was trying to kill everyone Jessica loved and held dear to her heart... She snapped. Jessica, and Lily screamed. "NO." Has she trashed about under the weight of Liam O'neil. Both of her hand pounded on him trying to find release. The pain in her left arm seem to fade as she was consumed by one vision. The firefight and explosion that lead to her parents death, replayed itself in all it's graphic detail, forcing Jessica to live the moment again, and again, and again. Jessica didn't register that Eian had come to kneel beside them, or Liam's response has he struggled to keep Jessica under control. But this rage went far deeper than anything Lily or Jessica could describe. The small woman soon found purchase has she wrapped her hand around Eian's arm and bought herself to her full height. She was silent, but in her eyes was an otherworldly fire, that lived behind the swirling colors of crystal blue and violet. She glanced around the small room taking in all the chaos in an instant, and she made her way to her first target. He was placed in a corner of the room his weapon was levied at Salid. Lily knew the deadly device he held in his hand, and that was what made him Jessica's target. Section 31 wasn't taking any chances, if they were so bold has to bring W.A.R ( Warp Accelerated Railgun ) assult rifles into this fight. Lily knew full and well the extent of the damage that particular rifle could cause because she was the one; like the with the ghost phase suit, that had brought that tecknology into Section 31's fold. The operative fired but Jessica was already upon him has she knocked the WAR toward to roof the round impacted the ceiling and cratered it. Thankfully they were located in the bowels of the station and surrounded by storage area's. Jessica's hands wrapped around the man's head and with a vicious twist and a pop she snapped his neck and liberated the weapon that would of ended Salid's life. Jessica turned eyed her next targets and fired. The round accelerated into warp 2 before impact has was it's design. The first operative it hit just exploded into nothingness, has the round continued passing though a heavily loaded crate has if it was just mere paper and into the operative behind it. The force of the round blew the operative into the wall where all that would survive the impact was the stain that the operative had become. It was then the WAR showed it's one weakness, it's massive ability to over heat. Larger versions of the weapon could fire longer with the proper cooling measures but the assault rifle could only fire one or two warp velocity rounds before it had to change fire modes to a more conventional rail gun. Which in Jessica's rage laden hands was still just has effective. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Phased In Area - ACEO Lt Eian O'Neill - Day 5 - 1336) He could hardly believe what he was seeing unfold. Jessica, the woman he loved, who had betrayed him, who had dinner with him and soft conversations with him and contemplated the universe with him, who listened to him talk about his religion and who fought like a veteran soldier instead of an ensign jg, who was a Starfleet Officer and a trained assassin, was now crouched in a corner like a wounded bear cub, spitting empty threats at people she should have known were not there to harm her. His mind went through the possibilities of what she could be thinking, and he came up with a solid profile in a few seconds as she spoke. Lily and Jessica were not the same person...even though they occupied the same body. However, they shared enough characteristics that what separated them might have merely been experience, not nature. He noticed she switched from 'we' to 'I', and her eyes had changed colors from the blue that signified Jessica's presence, from the purple that indicated Lily was in control, to a strange combination of both. He didn't hear two voices speaking at once. Whatever they had done to her here, she was now one person. Jessica Lily Signos was integrated, at least for the time being. The psychological implications of this were enormous. Firstly, she must have had better resistance to torture if the personality Lily was influencing Jessica's abilities to cope. She also was going to act more viciously, less controlled...and if the merging had caused any brain damage, it was possible that she recognized their faces and names but not their intentions, and truly believed she was threatened. On top of all this, she was also injured, so it was not a surprise that she was behaving wildly like a paranoid person in a mental institution. He was ready to go to her, to talk her out of what she was contemplating, when she spoke to him. "If ever their was love between us, if that love can be saved from this calamity then to you and you alone I will submit and stand down." That did it for him. He had that directly from her, not from Section 31 mind control, and he was certain that he could walk over there, hold her hand, and everything would be okay if they just beamed her into Sickbay and got this sorted out. But his father saw what he was about to do and held him back. He was the one to step forward. Eian could do nothing but watch and hope his father was successful as the commander squatted down and began to talk to her like he was coaxing a scared child out of the back of a closet. He was saying all the right things, his tone was non-threatening, his body language open and relaxed. Eian knew she was about to take his hand, but then all hell broke loose. "Sir the area has phased out again," someone said, and Eian instantly crouched down, his tactical training telling him that the room could be boobie trapped. And boobie trapped it was--only instead of automated weapons fire, they were surrounded by Section 31 operatives. Eian saw his father dive on top of Jessica in a split second, holding her to the ground under his body. The engineering officer rolled from his crouching position over to where they were and covered them, hitting one of the operatives before he could injure Liam or Jessica. The room erupted in an explosion of noise. Weapons fire assaulted his ears, and the screams of the injured took him right back to that nacelle maintenance corridor where he was first captured by the Borg. He found that instead of the usual battle readiness, high-alert state he entered when in battle, he additionally had an intense anger welling up in his body. He was hot, his cheeks bright red and sweat beading on his forehead as he fought the attackers. He was filled with almost uncontrollable rage, and it needed to be released. One of the operatives was close enough to him that he was attempting to snag Jessica from under Liam. His fellow operative was covering his position, and Eian quickly shot that one and slammed the butt of his rifle into the jaw of the other one. He didn't know who was covering him, and at the moment he didn't care. He swung the rifle into the man's head and let out a primal scream as the man attempted to get up once more. He kicked the heel of his boot into the man's throat and jumped on top of him, slamming the rifle down one more time with so much force that he felt the rifle might go through his victim's head and into the floor below. The operative's nose was broken and shoved into his brain. He died instantly. Eian stumbled back, nearly tripping over Liam and Jessica. He looked around vigilantly for any more challengers, and found that all were engaged with their party. He looked down for a moment and saw that his father had been grazed in the arm. "Dad..." he said, crouching down next to him. "Keep a lookout, Eian," his father barked, and that's when Eian seemed to snap out of it. This was a situation he couldn't afford to foul up with his intense emotions. He felt the anger draining from his body, the heat dissipating, and he entered the cool, calculating state that was familiar to him in a battle situation. He stood over his girlfriend and father in a ready position, squinting into the smoke and bright lights that filled the room as he was ordered, watching for threats. He had a duty to perform. The person they were after struggled free and grabbed the operative forcing the weapon to fire into the ceiling. The woman snapped the man’s neck like he was a rag doll and dropped the lifeless form at her feet. Rock had seen a lot of killing styles over his thirty years as a Marine. This woman was cold-blooded and without remorse in his eyes. He was glad she was nominally on their side. Joe shouted ‘Thanks’ and drug the Captain to a corner and turned - placing himself in front of the officer shielding him. (Reply: Any Present) (Posted by: Bill W.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Phasing Room - Section 31 Operative - Lucia Del Marco - Day 5 - 1340) Lucia has simply allowed the fire fight to continue around her until such time as she decided who was winning. She had her orders from Hayden and she followed them to the letter. Finally once she realised that she was their only operative left alive in the room she held her weapon up in the air and getting to her feet carefully, very, very carefully she placed her weapon on the floor in surrender. She was not happy doing this, she had already figured out who the major players in the room were and who were simply the grunts and she knew that given time she could have neutralised most of the major players and possibly the main target before they found her and eventually took her out. Unfortunately her orders were different from those given to her squad. They were expendable, she wasn't. It was her job to surrender, allow herself to be taken captive and hopefully be taken to the same place as their prisoner so that she could influence events. So, getting up on to her feet, she simply regarded her adversaries and made no hostile moves, knowing that as Starfleet Personnel they would not shoot her. Well at least not immediately since they would be far more interested in her as a source of information. (Reply any) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Phased Out Place - CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid Day 5 - 1342) To say that the situation degenerated rapidly would have been the understatement of the century. The air was so thick with strange ordinance and the angry red beams of phaser fire that it took Ahmed a moment to process the information so that he could react. Liam had used his body to shield Signos as the weapons play started up in earnest. A group of three marines were cut down before they could react and even as the captain was raising his weapon to return fire, he realized that he was fighting a new type of conflict. Eian moved to cover his father, the Captain of the USS Kelman, and Signos and Ahmed just barely managed to squeeze off a shot at one of the newly revealed Section 31 operatives before he was stuck bodily by one of the Rosenante marines, Sergeant Rock. As a result of the impact, his beam went wide and he had the wind knocked from his lungs as the Marine tried to shield him from the incoming fire. "Get off me Sergeant!" Ahmed ordered as he struggled to disentangle himself from the over zealous marine NCO. All around them the strange sound of high speed projectiles were whizzing through the compartment, shattering crates, and leaving pits in the bulkheads where they impacted. Marines were under fire, and their training was superior to the Section 31 operatives, who although highly trained assassins were not properly trained as units, and so the team work of the marines quickly started to turn the attackers into the attack. Salid managed to wiggle out from under Rock, just in time to bring his rifle to bear on a Section 31 operative who was on their flank and threatening to hit the marines from that direction. His shot struck the Andorian dead center, and the gunman collapse without having seen his plan to fruition. "To your right Sergeant!" Ahmed called as a high speed round slammed into a crate just beyond him. Had the gunman pulled the trigger a half-second sooner, Ahmed Ibn Salid would have been on his way to paradise. As it was, the force of the impact shattered the crate and debris spun through the air cutting into the left side of his face and shoulder. Ahmed allowed himself to be carried by the shockwave of the impact, and landed on his right side. He twisted hard and raised his weapon just in time to block a downward stroke from a section 31 operative who was using his weapon as a bludgeon. Ahmed's left foot jutted out and slammed into the man's right knee, hyperextending it before the patella separated from the force of the blow. Unable to remain standing, he collapsed in a heap on the floor, screaming in pain. but the fight was not gone from him and the man produced a nasty looking blade, and tried to drive it's point into Salid's guts. BUt the captain had seen his fair share of action during the civil war, and this position was nothing new to him. More than once, he'd found himself assaulted in hand-to-hand combat by a dangerous and armed foe. Then, he'd been greener, less experienced- but now, he had the experience and skill to better defend himself. He raised his arms in a cross-block maneuver, reversed his hands and gripped the man's knife wrist. Salid twisted hard, forcing the wrist to bend naturally and causing the grip on the knife's handle to loosen. A quick release with one hand followed with a quick elbow blow to the side of the man's head dazed him. Ahmed twisted his body and wrapped the man's arm in an extended arm-leg lock. Sufficient pressure caused the man's elbow to separate and his grip completely failed him as he screamed in agony. The Knife was no longer an issue and the captain of the Rosenante, released his grip just enough to allow him to kick the man hard in the throat. As he gasped for air, Salid landed a hard right hook into the corner of the man's jaw, and he was out like-a-light. By that time the majority of the struggle was finished, marines were checking the S31 personnel that had been subdued or killed and two marines were covering an S31 operative that had apparently surrendered. "Hold your fire!" Ahmed called out as he pulled himself to his feet, "Sergeant secure this man!" he added as he pointed down at his would-be assassin. He looked to the Operative, and then thought to scan the room. That's when he saw Signos. She was standing nearby, armed with one of the weapons that Section 31 had used against the Marines. There was a look of raw anger on her face, as if she were just barely in control of her actions. His eyes narrowed. "Ensign Signos!" he called, using the voice that he had built through his career that signified that he was in command. "Ensign Signos, you will stand down now! Am I understood?" (reply Eian, Rock, Del Marco, Signos, Liam) Daniel Greene Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Phased Out Place - ATAC/SC Ensign (sg) Jessica Signos - 1347) The firefight was over nearly has quickly has it began, once the tide of battle turned those that were able to phased out to live to fight another day. Jessica scanned the room looking at the damage caused the fire's of war still burned in her eyes but she was in control. Three marines were lost, has were six of the operatives. They gave more than they took but that did little to make anyone feel better. Has Captain Salid's voice cut though the din of the room. "Hold your fire!" Ahmed called out as he pulled himself to his feet, "Sergeant secure this man!" he added as he pointed down at his would-be assassin. Jessica was glad to see the Captain still alive she lost track of him after she went laid low the operative that had his WAR's sights set on Salid. It was then that Jessica saw the female operative who in all appearances had surrendered on her own accord. Jessica shook her head, as Lily spoke to her. ~That's not right, she wanted to be captured Section 31 operative are trained to die, most if not all are privy to some kind of illegal or unknown in formation. If she surrendered it's because she wanted too.~ Again the voice of Captain Saild cut though the din this time he spoke with the authority of practiced in the art of command. "Ensign Signos!" he called, She shook her head slightly has the fire and rage began to fade from her body has she tried with a supreme effort to calm down. "Ensign Signos, you will stand down now! Am I understood?" It was the combined voice of Jessica and Lily that cut though her mind next that snapped her out of her rage. ~You are no longer of them.~ The voices called though her mind. Jessica glanced to Salid, lowered her weapon. "Understood." She answered in an even calm tone. She looked over to one of the marines checking the bodies of the other operatives. "Sgt." She called once she saw his rank insignia. "Check her weapon, tell me if it's hot or cold." Jessica had a hunch that it would come back cold. That would mean she was there and this mission was all a ruse to get put her in the position to surrender, for what reason Jessica and Lily could only guess. "Captain the WAR the operatives were using is prone to overheat, if her weapon is cold it goes to show that she was staying out of the fight, and wanting to be captured for a reason. Please Sirs, I advise caution with her, please trust my experience in this matter. Take into account who I was, and who she is." Jessica went to say calmly has she looked the woman over. Lily had survived ten years in the cloak and dagger life she knew it's dangers. It was always the ones that came from a slender hand in the middle of the night that you had to watch out for, rather that the ones from the point of the gun. She continued to look about the room she has the adrenaline from the battle started to fad from woman encased in a youth's body. She saw Eian and smiled when she saw that he was alright, but has the fight fled the pain returned. Jessica gasped has her hand went to her midsection and wrapped around her, the effects of Jessica's torture were still in effect on her body. She nearly doubled over in pain has feeling came back into her left arm, that was still pulled from it's placed. She saw Liam rising from the ground blood oozed from a wound in his arm. As Eian came to Jessica's side, which earned him another pain laden smile. Before she scolded "Your father bleeds, go help him..." Then added softly in a voice that was his alone. "I'll be alright I'm not going anywhere." Jessica then found a place to sit her back braced against what remained of a crate the WAR she liberated laying across her lap, She smiled for that moment in time she was free from the lies and illusions that plagued her life. She knew then the bond she and Eian shared was genuine and not something fabricated by section 31 to help them achieve their greater ambitions. It was in those thoughts Jessica and Lily found solace, so even though her body was racked in pain, even though she was tired and exhausted, She was happy. He looked around the smoky room, smelled the odor of burning flesh that was unfortunately fresh in his mind, and squeezed his fists, feeling the sticky, partially-dried blood ooze into the cracks of his skin. He closed his eyes for a moment, took a deep breath, and let it out slowly. The last thing he wanted to do right now was to get caught in that place in his mind that he went while he slept, that took him right back to the battles with the Borg, or the assimilation chamber. His father was rising from his position on the ground, Jessica having squirmed out from under him and grabbed some kind of massive weapon that Eian had never seen before. The moment he spotted it, though, his mind narrowed in on its definition. ~[Warp Accelerated Railgun: * The reactor - supplies the necessary power need to energize the subspace field generator shield and to cycle the warp coils that fire the round. * The warp coil - allows for the acceleration needed for faster than light acceleration of the round. * The subspace shield generator - Shields the round to protect the round from disintegrating during travel * The micro replicator - fabricates the round in the firing chamber to allow for continual use of the weapon. The WAR uses an external weapons mount rail system that allows for the attachment of many instruments that could be of use, such as: * Tactical flashlights * Laser sights or tactical sights, such as Infrared Targeting and night optics]~ ~It happened again,~ he thought, rubbing his temples. He shook his head, trying to clear his mind of the thought that he could still be connected to the Collective. ~I need to go talk to the Doctor,~ he resolved, but first found Jessica. She was doubled over in pain, having just surrendered to Salid. He walked over to her and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, not sure whether she would accept the gesture. He read from her body language and facial expression that she wouldn't attack him. But he had no idea if she still loved him. If he was right, and she was integrated with her other personality, she was not the same person. There were no guarantees. She smiled, though, and said, "Your father bleeds...go help him. I'll be alright, I'm not going anywhere." He nodded, a troubled look on his face. He would never admit it, but part of him wanted her to lash out at him and push him away. That she seemed to forgive him unconditionally...it made drawing a line and vowing not to cross it that much harder. But she was right, his father did need help. He was grazed in the arm and was now staunching the blood flow with nothing else but his other hand. Eian approached him. "Eian, are you okay?" was his first question. Eian actually chuckled. "Yes, Dad. I'm not the one who's bleeding on the floor. Let's get that taken care of. Sit down..." he pulled his knife and cut off his uniform pant leg just below the knee. They would beam to Sickbay soon but the graze was at the right place to have hit the artery of the upper arm, and Eian didn't want his father to get lightheaded. It was bleeding too much to let it go. He twisted the fabric and created a tourniquet, silently tying it near his dad's shoulder. He winced. "Sorry," Eian said in response. "Jessica doesn't look like she's doing so well," Liam commented, and stood when Eian was done. Eian took his father's hand and pushed it up to his heart. "Keep it elevated," he said, and looked behind him. "We'll get her to Sickbay soon. After you're healed you'll have to start the procedure." They would need the nucleopeptides as soon as possible if they were to track Hayden and discover who he met after he abandoned this place. "And you'll need to finish your profile soon," Liam said, but there was something else in his eyes. Some disapointment that Eian detected was not there before. He didn't like his son's answer regarding Jessica. Eian couldn't imagine why--didn't his father realize that Jessica was an assassin, a Section 31 agent, an unsanctioned operative of a rogue organization that destroyed people's lives? What more evidence did he need than the very room that they stood in? But he didn't call him on it. Instead, he patted the elder O'Neill on his good shoulder and moved over to his Captain. "Sir, what are your orders?" (reply Salid, any there) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva Phasing Room SSG Joe Rock Marine NCO Day 5 1350) Rock moved off the CO as he was ordered. The room phased yet again and the remaining agents not slain disappeared. Joe sensed they had taken to the hills - like cockroaches running from a bright light. Salid had knocked down an agent. Joe heard the man’s order to secure the operative. Joe motioned to a private and said “Cover me Jones”. Joe moved to the agent and said “Shove your weapon towards me”. (Reply: Operative IYW) Rock moved forward slightly and kicked the weapon away from in front of him. He knelt down and did a quick pat down to check for ‘surprises’. (Reply: Any present) (Posted by: Bill W.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Ready Room - COUNS Parker Davis - Day 5 - 1541) "That predisposes that there is no free will," the Captain answered his question. "I believe that there is a plan for all of us, but that we have a choice as to what path we follow, and that sometimes we choose to steps off the path that has been prepared for us, because although there is a plan, there is nothing that makes us fulfill that plan, and that only we decide the path that we take in this life. That path is in turn made up of the thousands of decisions that we make every day." ~Interesting. That's my belief as well,~ he thought. Perhaps Salid did have a faith of similar origin to his own. He was not a scholar of religion galaxy-wide, but he did know that many religions and philosophies had similar beliefs. It only confirmed for him what he knew in his soul, but it was good data nonetheless. "You probably would agree that it seems a cruel fate of those who were ordered to an assignment that would end their lives, of all the assignments that could have occurred. The counselor couldn't help but notice the similarities between the Captain's answer and the answers of many of the prisoners he had seen at the end of their rehabilitation. Because they were all former Federation personnel, many of them were deep thinkers who prided themselves on understanding philosophy (although sometimes they chose the wrong philosophy to follow). They didn't have trouble reaching the conclusion that choice was real, and that fate by itself, while it seemed a convenient excuse, was not compatible with most respected philosophies. It gives me a great deal of faith that you are well equipped to help this crew come to the same realization." Parker smiled. ~Be that as it may, it doesn't have anything to do with you,~ he thought, slightly humorously. "Thank you, Captain. What you just said is going to help a lot of the crew, especially those who were assimilated and feel like even though they've gained back their humanity, they've lost their identity. What makes us different from the Borg is that they adapt based on quantitative data. We adapt based on qualitative knowledge. Data and knowledge are very different things." (reply Ahmed iyw) "I think the minute any of us stop being angry at not being able to fix atrocities we see, or when any of us stop worrying that we might have to make a Kobiashi Maru decision in the future, that we should hang up our uniform and go home. My personal opinion is that not only do these things help us grow and adapt to new knowledge, but they also keep us in check." He remembered briefly reading that the Captain used to be an engineer. "The minute those resistors are removed from the circuit," he explained, "you get a free flood of free will, and humanoids tend to go out of control without those built-in checks and balances." He believed they were built-in by an entity. Others believed they were built-in by a simple natural selection process without any design. It didn't matter which one believed; the thought was the same. (reply Ahmed, room for more) "The question remains, though," he continued, "what does one do with that anger and worry? One wouldn't want to accept it as the new norm, and simply be angry and worried all the time, and at the same time, we value it too much to purge it from our minds and hearts." The way this session was going, he thought Ahmed might answer the question on his own, so he raised it in such a way that would allow the captain to make an attempt at the answer. Of course, the answer was different for everyone. For some, they found that the way to cope was pounding anger and worry out of their minds through some holodeck exercise in violence, or if they chose unwisely, taking it out on others. But for many, they found that this only seemed to quell it for a time and the root cause would create a new weed to take its place in the sidewalk crack that was their injured life. Parker had an answer in mind, one he thought the Captain would like. But he would wait to see what the introspective man thought. Jasmin said with a knowing nod, "And knowing Ahmed, he just had to go and get you transferred, because he insists on only serving with the best officers." Salid gave her a look, "Actually, I had nothing to do with the transfer or the promotion. Lieutenant Viskhard was assigned, and I am glad to have him, his areas of study are very diverse and he will make a valuable member of my crew." Jasmin gave him a glance and said. "Uh-huh..." She then turned her attention to Viskhard. "Have the managed to get you settled in yet? All you personal affects make it to you yet?" "I am missing a few personal items, but I'm sure that when the Hades can they will forward anything to me that I request. For the moment I have what I need. Have there been any interesting medical studies during your stay aboard the Pangaea?" Jasmin smiled, she loved to talk shop. " Actually there was an outbreak on Gavin IX, where a sort of protozoaic life form was infecting people and causing them to exhibit symptoms similar to cephalic fever, but all the studies were coming up negative. The microbes had a natural biomimetic field that made normal means of detection nearly impossible. We had to come up with an entirely new means to detect them, and then we had to work out the pathology as well. We managed to treat the outbreak, but there's still a great deal we don't know about the life form we're still conducting tests on the samples that they have aboard ship." Viskhard sipped his drink while he listened and smiled politely. He held his opposite hand behind his back, steadfastly avoiding skin contact. Dralar asked before remembering that Humans Gestated their offspring live and did not clutch them in the crèches of the hatchery. "Forgive, me, we Skorr take only 3 months for our offspring to hatch from the egg. I forget that Humans are so very different from my own people sometimes." “Ambassador, would you mind helping us out by being a godfather to our baby?” Dahlia asked him then. A half dozen translation possibilities passed through his brain as the Universal translator struggled with the concept. Finally Dralar, still clueless responded. "I am a descendant of Alar, this is true, but he was not a God and I am not a member of the priesthood. So I cannot offer your child as an ancient sacrifice before the ancient Skorr Gods. Is this customary for humans, to do this thing?" he asked somewhat confused, "I have heard that your ancient god once required such sacrifices as with his holy man Abraham, but I was led to believe that this was only a test of dedication, not an actual practice." But not wishing to hurt their feelings, for he believed that They would be genuinely hurt by his refusal, he offered them an alternative. "I would, however do my best to persuade the high priests at the Temple of the Sky to undertake this deed for you should you wish it done. Perhaps it can bring our people closer together, Earth and Skoria." (reply Tom and Dahlia) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Deck 21 Formal Ballroom A - StratOps Cultural Liason Lt. Lo'ren T'Vof, Day 5 - 2120) She wandered the room letting her delicately pointed ears gloss over the conversations between the many delegates and invitees to the evening. Many Starfleet uniforms mixed with much more colourful costumes from a variety of corners. She noted the bright plumage of the Skorran Ambassador's crown, aswell as plenty of sweeping robes and a few garish outifts aswell. Her own outfit was almost understated considering the standard. She had managed to combine Vulcan and Bajoran designs in such a way that the blending was almost seamless. The pale purple matched the colouring of the old Bajoran Militia dress uniform and echoed the design of the jacket near the top, but as it came down the traditional leggings were replaced with a robe that looked much like that of a Vedek. Over this she wore the traditional overrobe of a Vulcan Ambassador in a luminescent silver-grey, flecked with purple and deep blue. A bright purple length of rope, denoting her Music Conservatory pedigree, was fixed to her right shoulder and meshed well into the outfit. All the remaining accenting that wasn't a specific award was silver and primarily understated, the most elaborate piece being her personal d'jarra earring. It told of her family background in the Iv'halla caste but superimposed over it was a reminder that a caste system was not preferrable. It showed the Vulcan IDIC - Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations - and truely put the screws to the idea that your caste was the end of the line. Lo'ren had the skills to have made a good life as a musician in the old caste system - but she also knew that her skills as a linguist and tactician would have never been developed if it were still in place. ~Thank the prophets I live in a different time.~ Hidden in the ear opposite her earring was a translation device; she had long ago deactivated the implated Universal Translator, preferring to listen to the natural languages of all she spoke with. It helped her gain a grip on the idiosyncracies of an individual language. Besides which, she knew that most of them had the UT active and her words to them would be translated no matter what language she chose to speak. As she walked, half her mind was on Jack, in their quarters with the triplets. He'd bravely volunteered to take care of them so that she could attend this evening. They were a handful and she fully expected at least one of the toddlers to be awake when she got back. She sipped at her kava juice, spiked with a twist of Vulcan gespar as she smiled at the next person to catch her attention. But given that she had played some small part in the proceeding she simply surmised that someone somewhere had asked for a crew list and her name had appeared on it. Hence her invitation. Given that Captain Salid had refused her permission to return to earth until everything had been picked over like a dead h'vaffe, Ael decided that she might as well make the best of it and attend. Scorning her formal dress uniform since Ael still considered herself on leave she decided to wear formal Romulan for once and went all out. Braiding her hair into smaller and smaller pleats she piled it up on the crown of her head until it resembled something of a Medusan snake like appearance. Happy with that she stepped into a silver brocade underdress and then covered it in a gold embroidered overdress. Having smiled to herself in the mirror she made her way to the ballroom to see what would happen. That is where she found herself face to face with one of the two other people in the room who's dress could indeed be considered to outshine even Ael's. As the woman stopped for a moment and smiled at her Ael smiled back and introduced herself. "Good evening. I an Lt Aelieu Harkonnen T'Rillian." (Reply T'Vof) (posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB Geneva - Deck 21 Formal Ballroom A - Lt Lo'ren T'Vof, Day 5 - 2124) The dress was, to use an old Earth term she had picked up from a diplomat recently, pure bling and had the distinct cut and fashion sense of Romulan wear. Her hair was impressive also, piled atop her head, and looking to the untrained eye as if it would fall any moment. Lo'ren's hair wasn't nearly as elaborate. When one has small children about, simple is often better. Her hair was long, but hung behind her in a loose ponytail - clipped back by a simple silver clip shaped into an infinity symbol. By the ears and the dress, Lo'ren surmissed a Romulan heritage, but wasn't one to jump to conclusions - after all, her own heritage was a rather unique mix and she hated when people made assumptions about her own personal practices. "Good evening. I an Lt Aelieu Harkonnen T'Rillian." Lo'ren gave a serene semi-formal nod, "Good Evening Lieutenant. I am Lieutenant Lo'ren T'Vof, how are you finding the evening so far?" (reply Ael) Lo'ren sipped the flavourful drink in her hands, "Are you attached to a particular ship, Miss T'Rillian?" He had his grey duffel over his right shoulder, his gate was easy as he took in the sights of home. He zipped up the second layer in his cold weather jacket, and adjusted the fleece cap to cover his ears. It was February here in Iowa and winter still gripped the countryside. He picked up his pace as the wind picked up its speed. The added exertion did well in warming him up. ~ Colder then I remember.~ He would have never admitted to having timed his shore leave to get out of the ball on the station, but he really hated socializing formal functions, just didn’t have a taste for them. He rounded the last bend in the road before cresting the hill overlooking his parents’ old farm. Due to his absence during his parents’ death his eldest brother inherited the property. ~I have to remember it’s Mike’s house now.~ he reminded himself. He always approached on foot due to two reasons. The first was out of tradition, it was the way he had always done it before, rain, sleet, snow or shine. Secondly it was out of respect. His brother was a traditionalist, set in the old ways passed down by their Grandfather. The man didn’t even own a replicator, and an anti-grav ground car would have been out of the question. Mike’s vehicles including all the farm equipment ran off of a hydrogen combustion engine. Nowhere near as efficient as a fusion cell engine, but he made enough latinum off of the traders that bought his produce that he could afford the expensive and less-efficient fuel. He walked up the driveway, his brother’s ancient blue pick-up truck covered in snow at least half a meter thick. ~I’ll have to ask Mike how many times the Smithsonian has called about him donating Gramp’s old truck.~ he mused to himself with a chuckle. Nate got to the sidewalk, quickly climbed the steps on to the sidewalk and up to the front door. He knocked on the door and waited for an answer. The woman who appeared came up to about Nate’s shoulder, had what used to be strawberry blonde hair that had faded slightly and was graying at the temples. She was wearing casual clothes and a cream colored apron splashed with fine white powder. Her eyes lit up when she saw who was at the door. “Nate! It’s good to see you.” She said as they both hugged. “Julie, it is good to see you. Are you taking good care of my big brother?” he asked a jesting tone in his voice. “Well, I am the best sister-in-law in the Alpha quadrant, aren’t I?” she smiled back. “Is Mike in?” he inquired. “No, he left early this morning. Mike is taking care of the animals, he’s probably in the barn, or he might be out in the field with the cows.” She said, taking his bag and putting it off to the side. “Do you want something while you wait?” “No that’s alright, it’s a little early for a beer.” Nate said. “A beer!? I meant something to eat.” She responded. “Nah, I think I’ll go find Mike and give him a hand.” Nate announced. “I’ll have biscuits and gravy waiting for you both when you get back.” She said. “That’d be great.” He said and headed toward the barn. A few minutes of walking in the cold air, and Nate had arrived at the still standing ancient wooded structure. He could hear the mewing of sheep and the snorting of the swine. He slid the barn door open enough to pass and closed it behind him. The smell changed from the crisp winter snow to sheep and hog manure. The animals didn’t take notice of his presence, and his brother was not in the barn. “He must be out with the cows.” He said to no one. Nate proceeded outside to find his brother out in the fields. I'm Katherine, or Kitty to all my friends." “Things aren’t any better over in the Science Department. I got a hunch that until we get underway again, we will both be eating a lot of take-out.” Kitty simultaneously shook her head and nodded. "Oh I know. Once you are on a mission the 'paperwork' suddenly doesn't seem half as important, but as soon as you dock at a station people are either demanding reports from you or sending them to you. It's like they suddenly feel they need to justify their existence by sending you stacks and stacks of padds." Taking a bite out of the burger he had brought for himself he asked Kitty what she was working on and offered to help. Grinning Kitty picked up the first padd. "That is my medical crew roster. I need it the same way you do to organise the shift rotation. I need to know who works best at night, who needs a break every so often for more than a normal sleep cycle or a hibernation. Who can be trusted to oversee a shift and who works best when supervised. That padd is just the doctors. This padd tells me about the nurses and this padd tells me about the medical technicians. This padd is from Master Chief Fuller giving me his report and this padd is from the most senior nurse giving me his.." Picking up the next padd she smiled. This is the crew medical reports. Sorry you don't get to see that one. This one details the major repairs and upgrades to Sickbay that have been completed, what is still to be done and when it is scheduled to be done. This one is regarding the repairs to our movable equipment, what has been completed etc. This one has to do with our supplies. What we have, what we are supposed to be given and when." She picked up another padd and placed it on the every growing pile. This one is from Geneva Base medical regarding the crew they have treated so far. This one is from our new councilor and whilst he is an independent department in some respects he does have to report to medical if he thinks we might need to be made aware of a problem." Picking up three padds she piled them even higher on the pile. There are updates from the planet Skorria since my speciality is in Skorrian medicine. There last five are updates from Starfleet Medical regarding new medical updates, procedures and just the general stuff that they produce. One lone padd sat on her desk and picking it up she smiled. "This padd David is the most important of all. It's from my mother asking if I am eating and sleeping properly. It was apparent that he was in a very upbeat mood and Eva found herself smiling as she watched him cross the floor to the table where she was sitting. "I'm glad you have some free time on you. How's your day going?" He asked her as he settled in. "It's been a fairly lazy day really. Ran Twelve clicks this morning and then went shopping. Then you called and I realized how hungry I was and, well... here we are." she finished with a smile and a shrug. "At least you made it out for some fresh air. I am just coming from my first counseling session with Counselor Davis. " "Ah I heard there was a new counselor on board. Is he a regular stick in the mud?" She asked. "The conversation was pretty harmless which was not what I expected. I thought he was gonna hound me about how it was mandatory for me to express my feelings and tell him how I wasn't loved as a child and how it is somehow coming back to me in the form of pain with my new eye." "And I take it you didn't?" she inquired. "We just talked about the new eye and how I was adjusting to it. There were some other harmless questions like how were my dreams and how my significant other reacts to the implant." "I'd bet that was an interesting conversation, eh?" she said, a smile gracing her face at the thought of the awkwardness of that conversation. She noticed that his face had taken on a look of intense scrutiny, and that's when she realized he was concentrating on something to do with his eye. "Henry?" she said and then waved her hand in front of his face. "I know that thing can't see through clothes well enough to have you stare at me like that. (reply Eva) As she responded he looked over her shoulder to the viewing port in the wall. The large rectangular area allowed a view into space and into one of the repair bays which happened to be housing the the Boudicca. In the distance he could see specs of moving debris which he could only guess to be the repair pods inspecting every inch of the ships outer hull. After just having a sudden surprise with his implant the same tingling sensation overwhelmed him as his magnification out of the eye increase dramatically. The two contrasting views instantly caused a headache causing Henry to grab his head with both hands. He looked back up as Eva looked over in his direction with concern. "I am alright, the strangest thing just happened. I was looking out to the Boudicca wondering how the outer repairs were going and instantly my implant magnified to a degree where everything on the outside of the ship was visible." (reply Eva) "It's just weird because i didn't activate it verbally. It was like because I thought about a magnified view the ocular implant just activated on it's own." This was one of the mornings that Dr. Caskie was to visit and check up on Henry's eye. Her previous visits were pleasant and fairly quick, but Henry had an issue he wanted to bring up with her when she arrived so he wanted to make sure the place was inviting and habitable. "Flux, come get your toy." Henry called out to the cat that he early that morning had named. Out from behind one of the living room chairs the kitten scurried answering to the command. Ever since the night that the cat realized he could no longer get away with things in the dark he had been cooperative and had not given Henry any grief. The cat entered the room where Henry was standing, looked up at him and then proceeded to swat his toy out of the room in obedience. While finishing up with the cleaning the door charm went off. He walked over to the door and pressed a button to open the door. Dr. Caskie stood there and he welcomed her in. "Again I would like to thank you for the personal care you have ren extending to me. It was almost immediately answered by Jacobs and he welcomed her in. "Again I would like to thank you for the personal care you have been extending to me. I believe this recovery and acclimation has been moving so fast thanks to all your efforts." Josh smiled at him. "I was only too happy to help Henry. At heart I am still a doctor and since at present I don't get too many chances to practice my skills I welcomed the opportunity to use them. Plus I will be honest and admit that you did me a favour too, although you might not realise it. To keep my medical licence current I need to practice medicine for a certain length of time every year. Your operation allowed me to do so for this year so as I see it, I am just as much in your debt as you think you are in mine and I thank you." (Reply Jacobs) Looking around his quarters she spotted the cat peeking out from behind one of the chairs. Walking towards her she stretched out her hand and allowed the cat to sniff at her. "I didn't know you were a cat person Henry, what's her name?" (Reply Jacobs) "She's a dainty little thing isn't she. I have a cat myself although he is at least four times her size and goes by the name of Bruizer for all the obvious reasons. However..." Standing up Josh regarded Henry. "Time to get on with why I am here. You have been doing well, better I must admit that I though you would so today, if everything goes well, I should be able to finally certify you as 100% fit and able to go back to full duty. So if you would not mind sitting down, we will get on with it. Computer dim lighting to 10% of normal" Once Jacobs had sat down in a chair Josh removed the final covering from his eye and asking him how it seemed to him ran her tricorder over his eye. Having the computer start to increase the lighting incrementally Josh kept scanning his eye and asking him how he felt. Eventually when the lighting was a 95% of normal Josh stopped and smiled at him. "To be honest Henry everything seems fine. From now on I am going to allow you full use of your eye but I want you to be careful and not expose it to any extremely bright light sources. In fact you might want to consider using sun glasses for the next few days simply to cut out the glare. Eventually your implant will automatically do that on its own but there is nothing wrong with giving it a helping hand at present." (Reply Jacobs) I don't think that to be honest I will need to see you again about this so if you have any questions or concerns, now is probably the time to ask them." (Reply: Matrix) (Posted by: Bill W.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Axtis III, Axtis City, CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma, 0702) Ben was in the staging area meditating, trying to prepare himself for the upcoming task. He had to make a past from the dagger beast's liver, cook then eat it. He had tried the beasts meat on the trip back to the city and found it a little rich and strong for his taste. He couldn't help but wonder what the liver would taste like. Klagth had said that who ever could eat the most without throwing up was the winner, he assumed the liver tasted pretty bad if it was inevitable that the contestants throw up during the challenge. The night before he had been locked into a secured cabin by himself, he had rested well enough and had woken up feeling refreshed. He heard someone approaching so he stood up to meet whomever it was, he wasn't surprised to find his friend standing before him. "Good morning, Ben. How was your night?" "I slept pretty good actually." Ben replied. "There's quite a crowd outside. Klagth was there saying people are placing bets on the outcome of the second phase of the ch'mok." He flashed a smile. "You didn't place a bet by any chance." During their last visit to Axtis Sanok had placed a bet on Ben with long odds, he won and claimed a substantial sum which he later turned over to Ben. He had to admit that if his friend had indeed placed another bet he put it on his competition rather then him, he wasn't certain he would hold out very long this time around. (reply Sanok) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Axtis III, Axtis City, Lieutenant sg Sanok, 0705) "You didn't place a bet, by any chance," said Ben. Sanok tilted his head to one side and paused before responding. "I did not. The last time we were here, it was for a martial arts tournament. You were not respected by anyone, but I knew that was an error in judgment. Making a large wager on you was a logical thing to do. We are not here now for a tournament, though it seems you managed to get yourself into one, of sorts." There was another pause before Sanok continued. "I spoke with Klagth last night and learned more about the liver-eating aspect of the ch'mok. There is an enzyme in the organ that is toxic in large doses, but tolerable in smaller ones. When eaten, it is sour, and begins working almost immediately in the digestive system, causing gas and a feeling of nausea, and eventually a fever. The longer one keeps from vomiting, the worse the affect. Eventually, the person either empties their stomach quite violently, or they pass out. Neither is a desirable outcome." Sanok wanted to ask Ben to skip the challenge and to leave Axtis with him. They would find another way to learn where Marah was. He did not know how, but there had to be a way. What good would it do if Ben suffered permanent damage from the dagger beast's liver? Unfortunately, he knew his friend would stay, and he would be disappointed in Sanok for even asking. Love was truly a very strong force. Someone began striking a large gong, the sound echoing and reverberating throughout the complex. Another person began shouting, sounding like a warrior's cry to battle. "It is time," said Sanok. (reply Soma) (posted by Bob B.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Axtis III, Axtis City, CTAC Lt. sg Ben Soma, 0707) "It is time," said Sanok. Ben heard the gong ringing and someone shouting. He wasn't looking forward to eating the dagger beasts liver now that he knew it was toxic, but he stood none the less and headed towards the main hall. "Wish me luck." He said to his friend. When he entered the main arena he saw that the council members were seated in the stands front row at the far end, Shren was also there so Sanok would also have a front row seat. One of the honor guards was standing beside the gong which he struck again when Ben entered the fighting area which now had been converted to a strange sort of kitchen. There was a couple large pots placed above two fires, this is where the paste would be cooked. There were also an assortment of utensils at each fire to be used for preparing the liver and turning it into a paste. Turok entered the arena and the guard struck the gong again. Ben looked towards his adversary who simply stared at him for a moment before heading towards one of the fires. Ben headed towards the other, once both contestants were in place two more honor guards appeared carrying the livers. They brought them to Ben and Turok and placed at their feet. The gong was struck again and Matan stood up. "Phase two of the ch'mok has begun. good luck to you both." He said. Turok got done and unwrapped his liver, Ben did the same. Both proceeded to cut the liver up and using the tools provided smashed and squashed the pieces up in a bowl. When the task was completed the contents of the bowl, which didn't look or smell appetizing in any way, was dumped into the pot along with some water and allowed to cook. When the paste was sufficiently heated they were signaled to remove the pot from the fire and dump the contents back into the bowls. Ben didn't know if it was his imagination or not but he thought the liver smelled worse while it cooked and even more so now that it was finished cooking. After several minutes had passed to allow the paste to cool to the point that it wouldn't burn either contestant Matan told them to eat. Turok dug in without hesitation Ben had wished he had taken an antinauseant. Reluctantly he began eating the paste, it was incredibly bitter and tasted worse then it smelled. After several mouth fulls he felt and heard his stomach begin to protest, he could feel the bile rising in his throat. Two more mouthfuls and he had to fight to keep it down. Three more mouthfuls after that he could take no more, he began to urge and gag. His eyes were watering and he could feel the perspiration on his brow. Glancing towards Turok he saw the Nausicaan was still shoveling the revolting paste into his mouth, he turned to look at Ben and liked his fingers. Ben turned away and leaned ahead as he felt the contents of his stomach fight it's way up his throat. He opened his mouth and everything in his stomach flew out. His throat felt as if it were on fire as he vomited a second and third time, water was now streaming down his face and his vision was blurry. Somewhere of in the distance he could hear someone laughing, actually there were two people laughing when his stomach settled enough to let him focus for a moment. He tried to stand but could not, he was too dizy. "Phase two goes to Turok." Matan stated. "Phase three will be held tomorrow evening here at the arena." The council members rose and left as did Turok and Shren but not before both got a poke in about weak stomachs and being in over his head. Ben just sat there and waited for the air to clear and his stomach to settle. His head was now pounding and he felt like throwing up again, he urged several times but there was nothing left to come out. Most of them had to do with the repairs that were complete, or nearly so. Some were about upgrades that had been installed on the ship and some had to do with crew transfers. Conscientiously Josh read through them all one after the other and made notes on her own personal padd so that she had a concise report ready for the Captain when he requested it. To be honest she so wanted to be somewhere else today. Reading reports was the last thing she wanted to do but maybe if she got through them quickly she could take some personal time, grab Mike if he was free, and go sailing even if it was only holographically. However Josh simply hid her surprise and tapping her comm button in response answered him. "Understood Sir, I'm on my way now. Caskie out." Closing the channel she asked the computer to locate Lt Trei. Having found out where he was she contacted the next senior security personnel and gave him the order to pick up Lt Trei from his present location and have him taken to the Conference Room aboard the Rose within the next 20 minutes. That done she headed of to meet with Captain Salid. Ahmed knew that she had not yet been informed of the changes taking place on the Boudicca, and that more than anything else was the main reason for their pre-mast meeting. "Sir, Lt Trei is in the processing of being picked up by Boudicca security and escorted to your Conference Room as I speak. How can I help you sir?" she asked, all business. "Commander..." Ahmed began, but then he realized he was being to formal and he paused. "Jennifer," he resumed, "I have something important to convey to you, so give me a moment of your time. He sighed, "And for the moment I have been placed in overall command of the Boudicca until such time as the Boudicca's fate can be determined by the admiralty. That said, there are rumors that the boudicca could be decommissioned rather than repaired and re-crewed. But there are the same number of rumors that say it will be business as usual." He paused and looked her in the eyes. He was not smiling, "That means that you are going to have to continue to play FO aboard the Boudicca for a while longer, but that you will be reporting directly to me. I'm concerned that the Admiralty hasn't already informed you of the change in the command structure, and that they haven't already offered you the center chair, and I think that speaks volumes about the debate taking place right now about the Boudicca. And I don't know how this is going to shake out." (reply Caskie) "I don't know when we will hear anything, but I also don't know if there will be a staff change or what the situation is at present. It wasn't the words or even the tone of his voice that warned Josh that something was badly wrong. It was simply the fact that Captain Salid had called her by her given name that sent shivers up and down her spine. He most certainly knew her given name and had even used it from time to time in social situations, but Josh had come to learn having served under Captain Salid that when he used your given name in a formal situation in his Ready Room that it mean one thing and one thing only. Bad news. Bracing herself for what was to come she simply nodded. "By all mean Sir." "I was informed a very short while ago, by a very angry admiral that Captain Durand had not yet levered the Admiral's mast against Lieutenant Trei, even though I had provided him with the findings of that august office almost nine days ago. Captain Durand did inform me that he would be unavailable for a few days since he had personal matters to attend to. However this is indeed the first I have heard regarding his resignation. The Captain continued. "I don't know when we will hear anything, but I also don't know if there will be a staff change or what the situation is at present. He was bought to the table and took a seat. (Reply Caskie, Salid, His JAG) (Posted by Edward) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Conference Room, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 15, 1626) Ahmed stepped through the doors into the conference room, which seemed to open more slowly than he remembered. If he hadn't paused slightly there was a chance that he might have actually walked into the still opening doors. ~Going to have to add that to the list of repairs~ he thought dryly. Behind him Commander Caskie, entered the room and Ahmed considered her train of thought after the hard news that he had just given her. And to make matters worse, she had been asked to now sit in on a disciplinary review for one of her own crewmates. A pair of security officers were stationed near the entry way as the two command officers entered the compartment, and they were quick to stand tall as the captain moved past them and to his seat. On the other side of the table Trei sat looking somewhat irritated at the fact that he was here. "Good afternoon lieutenant." Ahmed said as he settled into his chair. "You know Commander Caskie, and you know me, so there are no need for introductions." He placed a PADD on the table top in front of him. "I suspect that you know why we are here, so I'm going to get straight to the point." He paused. "The admiralty wanted to put you on trial and see you placed in a maximum security penitentiary for the rest of your natural life. After reviewing the data, Captan Durand and I determined that you would have been convicted and that a good, although impulsive officer would be lost to the fleet. We then set out to convince the admiral of that fact." He sighed. "The admiral was not exactly sympathetic, but he was willing to give you another chance, and so, since you had already been under a captain's mast, he ordered an Admiral's mast for you. He made his determination and then passed that ruling down to myself and to Captain Durand." Ahmed glanced at Commander Caskie for a moment before continuing in his explanation. "Captain Durand resigned from the fleet two days ago. And I have now been ordered by the admiralty to convey to you the admiral's rulings. Commander Caskie is the witness to these proceedings." After I have conveyed them to you, you will have an opportunity to comment or ask questions. Please stand lieutenant." (reply Trei) "Lieutenant Detron Trei, In accordance with Starfleet regulations Article 13 sections 2153 subsections A-Q, having found you eligible for an Admiral's Mast rather than a General court-Martial, and determining that you could still become and remain a valuable officer in the service of starfleet, I have been ordered by Starfleet Command, to hereby read you the rulings of said Admiral's mast and thereby enforce such orders as are contained therein." Ahmed did not need the PADD, but regulations were there none the less, and so he lifted the PADD and read directly from the screen. "Having jeopardized the lives of starfleet Officers and Federation citizens through an impetuous act, not authorized by your commanding officer, by initiating telepathic contact with the Borg at Dovek II and thus, alerting them to the presence of two federation starships, and thereby placing the crews of those ships in harms way, The admiralty has determined that you are to be sentenced in accordance to an Admiral's Mast, so that you may remain in service with starfleet in the hopes that you will regain your honor and rank, which has been sullied by these actions." Ahmed paused and looked over at the half-Klingon officer standing across from him. He continued, "You are hereby demoted to the rank of Ensign Senior Grade, and are not eligible for promotion until such time as you prove your value and worth to the fleet, through thoughtful and decisive actions, not fraught with impulsiveness as you have been shown to exhibit in the past. In addition, you shall not be eligible to hold the position of department head, until such time as a senior officer within your direct chain of command should determine you rehabilitated. You are to spend twenty four hours each week for the span of one month in the brig, and have all shore leave revoked without express special permission by your immediate commanding officer. You are also to maintain a professional readiness and efficiency rating of 85%. Should you fail to adhere to any of these requirements, You will be tried and if convicted sentenced to incarceration in a maximum security facility in accordance with the laws of the United Federation of planets." He looked to Commander Caskie, "Commander do you have anything to add at this time?" (reply Caskie) Once the commander had answered, Ahmed continued. "Lieutenant, you may now speak freely, and ask any questions or make any comments that you'd like, however, I do warn you that an insubordinate tone will result in disciplinary action, should you choose to be disrespectful." (reply Trei, Caskie)) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Conference Room - TAC/SC Lieutenant(SG) Detron Trei - 16.30) Detron listened to the ruling given by the Admiral's Mast. He understood that he would be demoted to Ensign Senior Grade and not regain his rank until he showed control over his impulsiveness. The concept of a Klingon Warrior to control impulsive action is like asking a baby not to cry. It is instinct that causes the warrior to act. Without that he might as well be an Android. "Understood sir. I offer to serve as the ship counselor during the time until my rank and honor is restored since I am half Betazoid." (Reply Caskie, Salid) (Posted by Edward) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Conference Room - FO - Josh Caskie - Day 15, 1632) Josh had followed Captain Salid into the Conference Room and had simply settled into the chair next to the Captain and listened as he began speaking. After he had finished he turned to her and asked if she had anything to add. Josh simply shook her head. "Not quite at this moment Sir. I would prefer to hear what Ensign Trei has to say first before I make any comment." Listening as Trei spoke his piece she caught the Captain eye once Trei had finished and getting tacit permission she began to speak. "Ensign. This is by no means the first time I have had to sit before you to have you facing a Mast judgement and I am saddened to see that you seemed to have learned nothing from the last one. It is only because of Captain Salid and Captain Durand's direct intervention on your behalf that you do not find yourself stripped of your commission, dishonourably discharged and shipped of to the nearest penal colony. Believe me, had I been consulted I would not have been so generous with you. That said, your sentence has been handed down and you have indeed accepted it in full. I suggest that you learn from it and quickly if you hope to continue in this Fleet. As to your request to act as a Counselor on the Boudicca, I am in two minds over this. I am not entirely sure given your past behavior that you are someone who would have the skills to counsel other crew members." Josh paused for a moment and simply stared at Trei. "However you willingness to do so also tells me that you do indeed still show some empathy toward other people and that is something that will be taken into consideration when a final decision is made. Now as per the sentence handed down to you, you will be escorted by these security officers to the Boudicca brig where you will spend your first of many 24 hours there. At 1700 hours tomorrow you will be released and you will report to whom ever is in charge of Boudicca security for your assignment. You will not leave the Boudicca without either my direct permission or direct permission from whomever is in charge of security on the ship. Do you understand Ensign?"
