Perhaps it was given during my injury, as I was rendered unconscious, and Commander Caskie assumed command of the ship. In any event, I will ask her to look into the matter. If anything of interest turns up, I will make certain you are notified.” ~In other words Ael you are dismissed. I have a hundred and one things more pressing to attend to than you so go away and stop bothering me.~ she thought. She also thought that it was time to retire gracefully. ~Well, for this round at least.~ Nodding her head she smiled again. "Thank you Captain. I won't take up any more of your valuable time since I am sure that you have a great deal of work to do. However, if you would be so good as to bring my report to my father up with Captain Salid I would be grateful." (Reply Durand iyw) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Personal Quarters - aFO - Cmdr Jennifer (Josh) Caskie - Day 1 - 1138) "Thank you, Jennifer. That means a great deal to me. There won't be a service though. Mosh's personal religious beliefs prevent it. I have written a letter to his family. That's what he wanted to happen if he didn't make it." Mike replied, his voice a bit sullen. "The Rangers will honor him in their own way. We'll have a proper send off before we go back on duty again, I'll make certain that you are there." Josh simply nodded not speaking and knowing that he was upset just kept her arms wrapped around him in comfort. He finally broke the embrace, almost as much out of guilt as a need to get underway and distract himself. "Maybe we should get going, eh? It might take a while to find the perfect dress." Josh allowed a twinkle to appear in her eyes and a smile to lift one corner of her mouth and in an effort to lighten his mood winked at Mike. "No woman worth her salt, if she knows what she likes and knows the styles and colours that suit her need spend more than five minutes finding the perfect dress Mike. It's the rest that takes up all the time. Once you've found the dress, you have to find the perfect shoes and then the perfect handbag and then the perfect accessories. That's what's going to take a while." (Reply Rosenbauer iyw) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Signos's Temporary Quarters - ATAC/SC Ensign (jg) Jessica Signos - Day 1 - 2110) "I...I need to think about this." Was all Eian said it was all he needed to say. His voice was detached, cold, empty, and it told Jessica all she needed. He was leaving and there was a good possibility that he might not come back. ~It's better this way.~ Jessica told herself, putting up a calm collective front. ~Better for him to find out know from me than later on from someone else, I'm doing this for the greater good for both us. If we are gonna heal...~ She let the thought hang there, has The doors to her room slide open and Eian left with out even saying 'good-bye.' ~Eian, please come back to me.~ was the last thought that followed Eian out the door. The door to Jessica's quarters slid shut and her wall, her world came crashing down. She cried, a pain built in her chest, so grabbed a throw pillow held it close and wrapped her arms around it. Time passed and the tears refused to subside in there flow. Her sadness at her lose of Eian turned into anger. Not at Eian, but to the ones that turned her into two faced monster, Her through her own story of 'Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.' She screamed into the empty void of the room. She screamed into the empty void of the room."How could they do this to me, I was just a girl, barely even a teenager?" But the emptiness offered no solace. "Why me, why was I destined for such a fate?" She turned her face and looked into a full length mirror, one placed that people could make sure their uniforms were in order before leaving their quarters. What looked back at her was a Lily. "Why?" Jessica asked Lily looking into the mirror. ~You know why, your unique.~ Lily replied weakly, the wounds she carried for Jessica still apparent across the mental image of Lily in the mirror. "The Signos Thread?" Jessica asked puzzled. ~ Yes, before the civil war Section 31, put in place a contingency plan in case they were disbanded. In you they found a way to keep there numbers minimized by keeping the most loyal of their operatives alive longer.~ "So is that all I am to them, a tool." Jessica screamed at Lily. ~Yes and no...~ lily cryptically answered, but held a hand before Jessica to hold of a reply. Lily continued. ~In, me they found something greater, than any tool. They found the perfect operative, one that would accomplish any mission, one would be perfectly loyal to Section 31, and never question their orders. We became the daughter of Section 31, and for our Loyalty we were well taken care of. ~ At this Jessica was shocked, she became silent. Lily was telling her not what she wanted to hear but what she need to hear. ~Jessica~ Lily Spoke softly. ~I need you to remember, the day your parents died. You need to know the truth and it's buried with in you just push past the false hoods that have been programmed into your mind.~ Jessica knew Lily was trying to show her something important. As she thought back to that fateful day, at first all she could see were the memories of that awful storm, the raging winds, but then in the back of her mind she heard something that she did not remember hearing before the sound of a teleporter beam thats when everything changed... Jessica remembered her mother putting her to bed. The terrible force of the hurricane blew outside the Signos home. Jessica felt no fear, after all her mother and father were there to protect her, and the storm could not get though the shielding that protected their home. But still young Jessica could still not sleep, She got out of bed to make her way to the bathroom to get herself a glass of water. On her way she saw flashes of light followed by a buzzing noise coming from her bedroom. Jessica panicked and tried to run to her parents but black gloved hands grabbed her and started to carrier her off. Jessica screamed "Mommy." has her mother rounded the corner, followed by her father both armed with phasers. Flashes of light blurred Jessica's vision has phaser fire filled the small hallway. One of the black clad men dropped a hole drilled into his head from her fathers weapon. Her mother screamed "Give me back my daughter." Jessica mother spoke with such hatred, the young girl though her mother possessed. Her mother weapon flared to life dropping one men that stood between her and her daughter. Two more blast going wide of there target, each took the opportunity to fire back, causing her mother to dive for cover. "Now, get her out of here." One of the black clad men yelled. The man holding Jessica nodded and her world was filled with light. When the light faded she was above her house, in a shuttle. The young girl screamed kicked, and fought with every ounce of strength and every piece of training her father had taught her. It wasn't long before three of the kidnappers lied at her feet. "Do it now," The pilot of the shuttle spoke. "But we still have men down there." answered another. "We got what we came for, take the fight out of that little b**ch now." The pilot replied forcefully. The man responded by pulling out a small device, and pushed a small red button. Jessica heard and felt the explosion, she ran to a near by window to see the remains an near by power junction vanish into fire. Jessica watched. has the power lines overloaded and back feed into the Signos home. The young girl yelled in defiance of what she saw. "Mommy, Daddy." Her house everything she knew, all that she loved, in that one instanced was ripped from her in fire and flame, as her house exploded. Young Jessica dropped to the floor numb. She would never remember this day again.... Not until Lily showed it to her. ~Now you understand, Jessica.~ Lily knew Jessica had found the truth, she was laying on the couch crying. It wasn't the cruelness of fate that took her family from her they were murdered. By the same person Lily was programmed to be loyal to. ~When next they come for you Jessica, it will be to kill you and let me take over your body. Please be carefull, because once they have you Eian will be next.~ Lily warned. Jessica laid there her mind a whirlwind of sadness, anger, rage. She hated what she had become, hated what atrocities had been carried out upon her to make her what she was. One day she would make them pay. She would break away from her oppressors and free not only herself but Lily to. But she could do little in her current condition. Time, it would take time, She knew not when she fell asleep but after a time an uneasy sleep fell over Jessica. What I have done in Starfleet I have never done in the private sector and vise versa. As the CSO I would be able to do more of what I enjoy doing professionally. However as an Operations Officer, I can be on the Bridge watching history unfold first hand." Then after a couple of moments Tamblyn said "Captain, if there is no problem with be being at a station on the bridge then I will gladly accept the position in your science department." Ahmed smiled. "It just so happens mister Tamblyn, that there is in fact a since station on the bridge. I would in fact welcome a science officer there full time, but as of late we've been a bit short staffed in that department, especially when you consider that we're an exploration vessel. I'd say that you have yourself a deal, lieutenant. Consider the position yours." "Roger sir. Will there be anything else sir?" Ahmed shook his head, "I don't have anything else. I suspect you'll want to take a look at the wreckage of what's left of the science labs and see that you get all the equipment replaced, or upgraded to your satisfaction. I'll green light any reasonable requisition for equipment, since I'd prefer to be properly stocked for some exploration missions. Since you have a great deal to do, You're free to go mister Tamblyn." (reply none needed) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Promenade - SciO Ensign(jg) Viskhard - 1050) Viskhard loped through the main corridor, trying to shoulder his errant duffle bag while juggling a long stack of PADDs and only succeeding in knocking three to the floor. Upon bending to pick them up, the duffle fell off his shoulder again. He sighed, re-shouldered the pack securly and then piled up the PADDs again before setting out. He'd received a message during the morning seminar and he looked down at the top of his pile again, the message displayed there for anyone who wanted to read it. Not that it made much difference, as all it said was that following his seminar he was to report to Captain Salid of the USS Rosenante. ~What would Captain Salid want from me?~ Visk puzzled over the summons, having forgotten the transfer he'd put in for months ago. His face puffed slightly with nervousness before returning to normal as he ran through the possibilities - none of them good. He was currently on Geneva to finish off the needed seminars for his microbiology degree. An intensive week of seminars followed by a dissertation to be handed in at the earliest convenience of the distance education scholar. Viskhard skirted around the crush of people, swallowing his distaste of being touched as he wended his way towards the location indicated on the message PADD. (reply Salid iyw, any, none) (posted by Lori) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 2 - 1055) Ahmed looked up as the door to his ready room slid open to admit the newest member of his crew to date to his Ready Room. Lieutenant Junior Grade Viskhard was by incidence the very first Denobulan that Ahmed had the pleasure to meet. They were serving in the fleet and they were all over the diplomatic corps, but Ahmed had never actually met a member of the species face-to-face. So when he had been notified by security that the Denobulan was on his way to report in, Ahmed did a very quick search of the interspecies database to familiarize himself with the subtleties associated with interpersonal interactions between humans and Denobulans. As the junior officer entered, Ahmed rose to his feet. "Welcome aboard the Rosenante, Mister Viskhard." he greeted the scientist. "It's a pleasure to have you aboard. Please won't you take a seat?" (reply Viskhard) "I was about to make myself a cup of coffee, would you care for some, or perhaps something else?" He offered. (reply Viskhard) Ahmed finished making the drinks and placed them on the desktop before resuming his seat. "How was your trip from the conference?" Ahmed asked, making some small talk before getting right down to business. It was one of the suggestions that he had picked up in his quick skim of the diplomatic brief. Sometimes it was a very good thing to have a photographic memory. (reply Viskhard) "And the conference itself? I assume it was worthwhile?" he inquired. (reply Viskhard) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, SciO Ens (jg) Viskhard, Day 2 - 1056) Viskhard's eyes were the deep midnight blue that usually came with his moments of uncertainty, he was nervous, but his near preoccupation with his studies and already forming his dissertation on the way up to the Bridge had soothed him enough so that he could maintain a demeanour. The uncertainty was mostly because, while he was adept at many forms of science, his mind could be taken away by it and he'd forget the social niceties. ~Or in this case, forget why the Commanding Officer of the Rosenante might want to see me.~ The door slid open as Viskhard approached it, Visk assuming that he was expected, and indeed the CO stood and greeted him "Welcome aboard the Rosenante, Mister Viskhard. It's a pleasure to have you aboard. Please won't you take a seat?" Visk smiled softly at the Captain, grateful that he hadn't proferred a hand and thankful that there would be no awkward silence about touching and not touching; his eyes fading back towards the calmer and brighter tone of royal blue that usually presided. "Thank you Captain Salid." Visk nodded politely and slid his duffle to the side of the chair as he folded himself into it. "I was about to make myself a cup of coffee, would you care for some, or perhaps something else?" Captain Salid was certainly different from Captain Straton, Visk noted. The latter would have expected military precision and it was only his ability in the lab that had kept him from bearing the brunt of her displeasure in the past. ~That and the fact that I can work any shift, any time, day or night.~ "Certainly, sir. I would enjoy a jestral tea." Viskhard wondered if Captain Salid would pick up the significance of the drink, or if the man was familiar with the calming properties of the betazoid drink. While he waited he tried not to fidget and focussed on keeping his face un-puffed, a nervous habit he had yet to have full control over. Ahmed finished making the drinks and placed them on the desktop before resuming his seat. Viskhard nodded again, taking the drink from the table and wrapping his long fingers around the outside. "How was your trip from the conference?" Captain Salid opened into a bit of conversation, Viskhard was happy to oblige him. He enjoyed a good conversation, most Denobulans do. "The trip? It was pleasurable, I spent much of it reading and organizing my notes. I hope to be finished my microbiology dissertation within the month now." "And the conference itself? I assume it was worthwhile?" the Captain inquired. "Yes, most informative. I'm more well versed in Seismology and other Planetary Sciences, but the Microbiology seminars are very interesting and they are of course necessary for me to complete my current degree program. (reply Salid) Viskhard nodded, "Yes, sir. I have completed several degrees using the Fleet's distance learning programs. Microbiology was simply next on my list." He took a sip of his tea, savouring the flavour and allowing the calming favours to waft up his nose. (reply Salid) (posted by Lori) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Personal Quarters - Lt (sg) Katherine (Kitty) Fisher - Day 2 - 1100) Kitty had watched from one of the Observation windows yesterday as both the Rose and the Boudicca had docked and she had been appalled at the damage to both ships. ~That's one party I'm glad I missed.~ she thought to herself. Deciding that everyone she knew on both ships would be busy, probably for a long time to come she had decided not to chase any of them down but to leave them for a day or so since she would have plenty time to catch up with them later. However when she woke this morning she knew that she had better report for duty at least and find out if there was anything she could do to help. "Computer. Where is Captain Salid of the USS Rosenante at present?" It took less that a minute for the computer to reply. [Captain Salid is at present in his Ready Room aboard his ship.] That made up Kitty's mind. Checking that her uniform was straight and picking up the padd with her orders she left her quarters and headed for the docking bay. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Ready Room, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 2 - 1114) Ahmed had just dismissed Viskhard a minute earlier and was about to get back to work, when his door chime sounded again, just a moment before the door to the ready room slid open. It was a blast from the past, to see Kitty Fisher step into his ready room again. The woman had once served as the head nurse in the Rosenante's Medical Department under Commander Caskie. She had also served under him aboard the Champlain during his time as First officer there. "Good morning Captain. Doctor Katherine Fisher reporting for duty Sir." She stated, obviously tickled with the turn of events. Ahmed rose from his chair and allowed himself to break into a broad. "Doctor Fisher, and a Lieutenant at that." he said as he rounded the end of his desk. He reached out and gave her a friendly hug, the kind that is shared between friends. "It's good to see you again Kitty." he said as he gestured her towards a chair. (reply Kitty) He took the PADD that she offered him and still smiling returned to his chair tucked away behind his desk. "How have you been?" he asked, "It looks like you decided to pursue your medical License after all. Last I heard you were on your way to Skorria." (reply Kitty) "And how was it?" he inquired. (reply Kitty) "Well I have no doubt that Lieutenant Dralar will be thrilled to see you again." Ahmed reached down and picked up the display device and quickly scanned through the contents. "I don't think that there could have been better timing. Doctor Ichijo has been requested to be temporarily assigned to Starbase Geneva to aid in the recovery of several of the assimilated starfleet personnel from our last mission. That leaves me short a Medical Department head. I'd love for you to take the job as an Acting CMO if you can see yourself doing me a small favor." (reply Kitty) "Good. Then consider it done. Have you had a chance to see Jennifer yet, or any of the others?" (reply Kitty) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Captain's Ready Room - MO - Lt (sg) Katherine Fisher - Day 2 - 1115) She didn't know the person at the docking bay, probably someone seconded from Geneva, but her orders were all that he needed to allow her onboard and she quickly made her way to the Ready Room and activated the chime. Once the doors slid open she stepped smartly into the room and stopping at the desk she smiled at Captain Salid. "Good morning Captain. Doctor Katherine Fisher reporting for duty Sir." Trying hard, and failing to keep a grin off her face she handed him her padd. (Reply Salid) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Ready Room - MO - Lt (jg) Kitty Fisher - Day 2 - 1117) Kitty watched as the Captain broke into a broad smile and came round from behind his desk and hugged her. "Doctor Fisher, and a Lieutenant at that." Hugging him back she took the seat he offered and grinned. "What can I say, Josh convinced me to stop following her around and go do something with my life so I did. Although I'm still finding it hard not to be seen as one of the 'Terrible Twins'" "How have you been? It looks like you decided to pursue your medical License after all. Last I heard you were on your way to Skorria." Nodding Kitty updated him somewhat. "You know Josh. She badgered me to finally go for my medical license and a year at Starfleet Medical was all it took given the qualifications I already had. "And how was it?" Kitty shook her head. "As for Skorria, it was something that Lt Dralar suggested to me a while ago and he made it easy for me. A very interesting place. When you get some free time look me up and I'll tell you all about it." "I don't think that there could have been better timing. Doctor Ichijo has been requested to be temporarily assigned to Starbase Geneva to aid in the recovery of several of the assimilated starfleet personnel from our last mission. That leaves me short a Medical Department head. I'd love for you to take the job as an Acting CMO if you can see yourself doing me a small favor." Kitty's jaw dropped. "A small favour. I was posted back to the Rose because Lt Dralar is the only Skorrian in the Fleet and I am the only Fleet doctor that knows anything about Skorrian medicine and now you want me to be ACMO. Dear lord I'm only just barely a doctor. Is it that bad?" (Reply Salid) "Well when you put it that way, how can I refuse." "Good. Then consider it done. Have you had a chance to see Jennifer yet, or any of the others?" Kitty shook her head. "No, I saw both of your ships dock yesterday and saw the damage. I thought that everyone could do with a day or to two unwind and relax before I pounced on them but I do plan to catch up with Josh today sometime today. But in the meantime, back to business. Is Sickbay safe to enter. If so I would like to get down there and start making an inventory of what is needed in the way of equipment and supplies." (Reply Salid) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Outside Ready Room - Dean of Sciences, Daystrom Institute - Dr. Bruce Maddox - 1145) Bruce straighted his long jacket, pulling on the lapels. Starfleet standard atmosphere was always a little cold for him. "Who set the thermostat an Andorian?" he had intended to say only to himself but his 'old man grumbling' as the students called it was loud enough for some of the bridge crew to hear. He got some strange looks from the group who heard him, but he didn't notice as he pushed the door's chime. (Reply Captain Salid) The door opened and showed a young man a full half Bruce's age with full Captain's pips on his collar. ~By Richard Daystrom, they're making them younger and younger!~ "Captain Salid, I believe an appointment was made for me." he said after clearing his throat, "I hope I'm not taking up too much of your time." (reply Captain Salid) "Well thank you Captain. These old bones could use a place to sit." the Senior Maddox on board the vessel sat in the offered chair. (reply Captain Salid) "It's a fine ship you have. I suppose it would look a lot better if it were in a more pristine condition." he said sipping the coffee he was offered. (Reply Captain Salid) "I knew they wouldn't appoint you as Captain unless you were quite intelligent, you are correct, enough of the small talk. I am here on behalf of my son." he replied. (reply Captain Salid) "No Ahmed, he did not call for me, and no political strong arm tactics, no threats to your career. That sort of manipulation of the Admiralty is behind me now. I want to know what happened. What did the Borg do to my son to make him do what you accuse him of?" Lisa entered the ring first. She stood a few feet from the dummy and secured her battlaff for the first move. She cracked the dummy in the head then followed up with a upper cut. The dummy staggered near the edge of the ring. The dummy then counterattacked with a body move and a slash to the side of her head. She was too quick for that move and blocked the move to her head. She lunged with her battlaff to the head of the dummy. He told her to finish the dummy off so she slammed the dummy on top of the head the thrust her battlaff to the body. The dummy slumped to the floor. She pounded the dummy once more to be certain. He told her she did well as she left the ring. He handed her a black belt on completion of the course. She held the belt with great appreciation. He invited her to come back tomorrow at 19.00 to watch him compete in a series of battles like an old video game called Mortal Combat. She left the Holodeck exited to show her mom and dad the belt also about the Mortal Combat event tomorrow. Detron told the computer save program and clear. He left the Holodeck. The two vigorously ran through the starbase burning off much of the frustration that had been growing within their bodies. It was obvious the two were interested in each other but besides the occasional flirt or dirty joke no one was taking the upper hand. Jacobs paced had now slowed as he notice Eva pull ahead of him. He was upset that she was getting the better of him but at the same time he was seeing the better of her from behind. He smiled as he called out, "You know you can give up at any time. I wouldn't dare think you less of a woman." He chuckled because this was his way of saying that he needed a break but definitely was not going to let her beat him. (reply eva) He could barely catch what she said as the continued to run in between people out on the promenade. The sight was quite like watching children running and playing and it was obvious the two were enjoying the work out. It seemed after responding to him Eva picked up her pace as the distance between them was growing. Henry was about to kick it into high gear when he caught the mammoth sight out of one of the large view ports. The amount seemed to escape him at the time but Henry could not count the number of repair vessels ferrying in between the two repair slips of the Boudicca and Rosenante. Both ships looked like hell, the Rosenante looking a tad bit more crippled missing one of its nacelles. In only a days time the majority of the superficial damage had been either repaired or was currently being repaired. It wouldn't be long before the ships looked like they were one their maiden voyages. There seemed to be even more of a commotion over the Rosenante. It was clear that the extra materials and workers were there as apart of refitting the Rosenante. It made Jacobs stop and think how Lt. Matrix was doing not being able to see what was going on his own ship. After that thought had passed he wondered why he himself was not so worried. He had just been made acting Chief and there were plenty of things he wanted to address, but the time would come once the Boudicca left for her next mission. While Jacobs was lost in his thoughts Eva stood waiting for him to say something to her. "The ships are beautiful aren't they?" (reply Eva) The thought that crossed his mind next scared him but he was a man so he decided to repeat it out loud. "Yet they are not as BEAUTIFUL as you are Eva" (reply Eva) "Seeing how tomorrow is Valentine's Day would you like to go out with me. I am sure I can entertain you to a degree that you have yet to experience!" (reply Eva) (posted by Darryl McDaniel) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva, Admiral's Office, CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 2 - 1600) Ahmed had been waiting in the waiting area outside the Fleet Admiralty's offices on Geneva for the better part of five minutes. He had resisted the desire to wear his formal uniform, leaden with his various medals and commendations. Instead he had settled on his normal duty uniform and a single PADD, carrying a series of reports concerning the recent Borg activity in the Dovek System. It was an interesting piece of work, one that had been challenging to summarize for the initial introduction to the report, without going into exceptional detail that was bound to be found through out the particularly complex operation. His wait finally came to an end as the admiral's aide, a commander, stepped forward to fetch him. "Captain Salid?" he inquired as a matter of formality. "Yes, that is correct." Ahmed replied, "Admiral Richardson sends his regrets, but he was called way suddenly to handle a delicate situation. He has instead made arrangements for you to meet with Admiral Jopek." Ahmed's face must have lost it's color because the aide raised a single eyebrow before asking, "Is everything alright captain?" "Yes, of course." Ahmed replied despite the fact that he had hoped to speak with Richardson who had assigned them the mission in the first place. He suddenly saw a much longer meeting and a very real chance of formal inquiry looming into his immediate future. "Very well, then captain. The Admiral will see you now." the aide stated as he turned and gestured that Salid follow him. Ahmed rose from his seat, performed the somewhat infamous Picard maneuver on the hem of his uniform tunic, and followed the aide to the admiral's office. The aide actuated the door and gestured for Ahmed to enter without him, which the captain did. The Office was exactly as he had remembered it, all those years ago when he had graduated from the academy and had spoken to Jopek for his very first Starfleet assignment aboard the USS Nimitz. Perhaps it was the memory of that distant time that set Ahmed on edge, some memory of anxiety that he had thought mastered so long ago. Or perhaps it was because he realized the true gravity of his presence here today. "Admiral Jopek, sir. It's a pleasure to see you again. I have the final reports from the Dovek Mission available for your perusal. Considering the severity of the condition that both the Rosenante and the Boudicca suffered at the time of their arrival at Geneva, I thought it prudent to deliver these to you directly so that I would be available to answer any questions or so that I could provide you with a verbal account should you prefer it." (reply Jopek) Daniel Greene ======================================================= (USS Rosenante - OPS Suite - Docked SB Geneva- Lieutenant Tom Jackson 2nd Officer / COPS Day 3 0930) Tom went a board at the request of the Yard master's repair team. He saw the team had made a lot of progress. Most of the last mission’s scars were disappearing. As he walked to the OPS Office suite he occasionally rubbed his hand along the Rose’s walls and murmured silently ~relax old girl - we’ll get you ready to dance once again~. Jackson was a man with several things on his Mind. He was a new dad to be, he was worried about his ship and crew. He sat down at his desk - Emily Graatz was the NCOIC on duty and welcomed her boss. “Hi Sir - how are you?” she asked. Tom smiled at his subordinate. “Doing well Emily. I just found out I am going to be daddy” Tom added proudly. “That’s great Sir - congrats” Emily replied. “What’s the ship’s status?” Tom asked. She scrolled through several pads of data before replying. “Well we were hurt badly. Lt Matrix is ‘advising’ the Engineering team” she added chuckling. Tom laughed and added “If I know our trustworthy Chief - its more like badgering”. “Most of the hull repairs are being worked on as we speak” Emily added. Jackson sighed and nodded indicating she was to continue. She took a deep breath and plunged ahead. “Sir, personnel drafts are being to appear in ones and two’s “Emily stated “Hmm anyone interesting?” Tom asked his subordinate. “Nothing out of the ordinary - I’ve made tentative quarters assignments pending the CO/FO’s review.” Emily added. “Thanks Emily - that helps more than you know” Tom said in thanks. “No problem Chief” she said turning back to the piles of pads. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Bill W.) ======================================================= (Starbase Geneva, Assembly Area, CO Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 4- 0900) Ahmed watched as the hour of 0900 finally arrived on the chronometer. Before him was assembled the crews of the USS Boudicca and the USS Rosenante. The personnel were assembled in good order over a thousand of them, mostly recovered or recently assigned personnel. Beyond them, through the massive panoramic transparent aluminum bulkheads, the two starships could be seen in their repair slips surrounded by the busy work of a hundred workbees and inspection tugs. Some of the mighty starships were stripped in places to her substructure, their tritanium skeletons being replaced or straightened as the work crews went about the task of revitalizing the vessels. On a sort mobile podium were the command staff of the two ships. Consisting of captain Durand, Commanders Sullivan and Caskie, Lieutenant Jackson and himself, the small officiating party was nowhere as large as the nearly 1400 personnel assembled before them. Finally with a nod to his fellow Captain, Salid stepped forward and took his place at the podium. It didn't take long for the murmur of conversation to fall into a near deafening silence. "Today we are assembled here to pay homage to those that have served the Federation without fear, or hesitation. Those individuals that paid the ultimate sacrifice to insure the billions of lives within these borders would remain free of harm and suffering. We owe them a debt of gratitude that can not be repaid. Their loyal service and sacrifice has guaranteed us our right to carry on. To those that were lost, I offer our deepest condolences and gratitude, that we might learn from their example and hold ourselves to the same level of honor and strength of character that they have given to us through their example. Please join me in a moment of silence." Ahmed and those assembled stood for a short while in complete silence, considering the depth of the sacrifice that laid upon the table for them. Once a suitable length of time had passed, the captain of the Rosenante continued. "During our mission to the Dovek system, our combined crews faced some of the most extreme odds against our survival that I have ever heard of. It was this struggle that helped to define us as professionals, as individuals and as officers and crew of the United Federation of Planets. Some among us paid the ultimate sacrifice and did not return to their friends, colleagues and families. While some, were blessed or were fortunate enough to make it through this ordeal. " "We may be here, but none among us are untouched by this tragedy. We were forced to lower ourselves to a primal level to guarantee our survival and those around us. When forces rallied against us bending us towards the breaking point, we held fast pour resolve and overcame all adversity." "It has been my honor and privilege to be given the glory of commanding such a fine pair of ships. My faith in success for this mission never wavered, because I always had within you the utmost confidence to get the job done, despite the cost." "I have been granted the further privilege of announcing some of the commendations and promotions today. So if you will bear with me, I shall do so now. I have jealously evoked my rights as Task Force commander to do so, and thank Captain Durand for allowing me this honor." "By order of the office of the admiralty, All personnel assigned to the USS Boudicca and the USS Rosenante, seeing action during the Dovek incident are hereby awarded under the recommendation of Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Task Force Commander, the Squadron Commander's Commendation." "I will detail those commendations passed down from the admiralty through my station as task force commander and as Commanding officer of the USS Rosenante. In addition, Captain Durand will further expound upon any commendations and or promotions that have been conveyed through his officer as commanding officer of the USS Boudicca." "Captain Alan Durand, please step to the podium." (reply Durand) "Captain Durand, it is my honor to present you with this Ribbon of sacrifice, in acknowledgment of the injuries that you sustained on the behalf of the United Federation of Planets during conflict with the Borg Collective. Thank you Captain." (reply Durand) "Commander T'Larah Sullivan, please step to the podium." (reply Sullivan) "It is my honor to present you with this Combat Action Ribbon for actions undertaken against the forces of the Borg Collective during the Dovek incident. Your selfless acts during the operation brought us critical information that was vital to the success of our mission. Congratulations, Commander." (reply Sullivan) "Commander Jennifer Caskie, please step to the Podium." (reply Caskie) "It is my honor as task Force Commander, under whose command you served, to be able to present you with this Legion of Honor. Please accept this token of appreciation for all your hard work and exceptional service to the United Federation of Planets. Your leadership and good judgment will continue to inspire junior officers for years to come. Congratulations Commander." (reply Caskie) "Lieutenant Thomas Jackson, please step to the podium." (reply Jackson) "It is my honor as task force commander and your Commanding officer to present you with this Legion of Honor. Your dedication and initiative aboard ship aided our mission by restoring a vital line of communications during our most desperate hour of need. In addition, I have the additional honor of hereby promoting you to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. You shall enjoy all the privileges and responsibilities of such a position. Congratulations Lieutenant Commander Jackson." (reply Jackson) "Lieutenants Chance Raschen, Sanok, Ben Soma, and Ensigns Jessica Signos and Mike Rosenbauer, please step to the podium." (reply Raschen, Sanok, Soma, Signos, Rosenbauer) "On the behalf of the United Federation of Planets it is my honor as your Commanding officer to present each of you with the Cross of Fire. It is because of your dedication, skill and determination in the defense and offense against the Borg Collective that we are here today to hold these proceedings. Your strength and dedication is well known and you are an example to us all. In addition, I am doubly honored to hereby promote Sanok and Soma to the rank of Lieutenant Senior grade, to promote Rosenbauer to the Rank of Lieutenant junior grade, and Signos to the rank of Ensign Senior grade. Congratulations to you all." (reply Raschen, Sanok, Soma, Signos, Rosenbauer) "Ensign Henry Jacobs and Lieutenant Steve Matrix, please step to the podium" (reply Jacobs, Matrix) "It is my honor as task force commander to present to you both the Starfleet Achievement Medal. This medal is in response to the continuing excellence in Engineering and innovation that was critical to our ability to return home at the end of our current mission. In addition as task force commander, I have the additional privilege of presenting to Ensign Jacobs the Cochrane medal of Achievement for his innovation during the battle for the Commsuit aboard the Rosenante, whereby he aided in the development of a means to stop the Borg." "Additionally, under the auspices of commanding officer of the USS Rosenante, I am afforded the honor of hereby promoting Lieutenant Steven Wade matrix to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, complete with all the privileges and responsibilities that the rank does entail. Congratulations to you both." (reply Jacobs, Matrix) "Lieutenant Eian O'Neill and Commander Matthew McLaren, please step to the podium" (reply O'Neill, McLaren) "In recognition of your sacrifice and of the assimilation and loss of your individuality while undertaking a mission for the safety and security of the United Federation of Planets, I am honored to present you with this Ribbon of Sacrifice. In addition, as commanding officer of the Rosenante, I am hereby promoting Eian O'Neill to the rank of Lieutenant Senior Grade. Congratulations, gentlemen." (reply O'Neill, McLaren) "Senior Chief Petty Officer, Nate Fuller, please step to the podium." (reply Fuller) "It is my honor to promote you to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer in recognition of your continuing excellence in your profession. You are a rock upon which many officers and enlisted personnel depend. You have proven yourself to be steadfast and trustworthy in the face of adversity. Congratulations, Master Chief." (reply Fuller) "Before I turn over the podium to Captain Durand for any other business, I would like to discuss some other information that concerns the Rosenante. Effective Immediately Lieutenant David Tamblyn has been placed in charge of the Rosenante's science department. Additionally, Lieutenant Junior Grade Viskhard will be acting in the capacity of Assistant department head for that department. Congratulations to you both." "Additionally, Lieutenant Chance Raschen has been tapped to fill the position of Beta Shift Leader aboard the Rosenante. His prior position as Security chief will be administered by Lieutenant Sanok. Stepping into the position of Assistant Tactical Chief, reporting to Lieutenant Soma will be Ensign Senior Grade Jessica Signos, who has just concluded a transfer from the USS Boudicca. Lieutenant Junior Grade, Rosenbauer and his team have requested and been granted permission to transfer to the USS Boudicca which will take affect immediately after the conclusion of this briefing." "With Doctor Ichijo needed here on Geneva Station for an indefinite period of time, Lieutenant Kitty Fisher will be assuming the role of Acting Chief Medical Officer for the Rosenante. I am very excited about these changes and would like everyone to take the time after the briefing to congratulate those individuals upon their accomplishments." Ahmed gave himself a moment to savor the good, however miniscule that had come from this last mission. Promotions and Commendations were always something worthwhile, especially after a particularly difficult operation. "Captain Durand, I hereby stand relieved at the podium. The assembly is yours, sir." (Reply Durand) Ahmed stepped away from the speaking platform as Durand took his place there. He assumed the position of parade rest and listened as the briefing continued. (reply All mentioned) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Assembly Area - aFO - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 4 - 0904) Josh stood on the platform along with the rest of the joint Command Crews and as the clock ticked over to 0900 watched as Captain Salid began to address everyone. Josh listened as he mention the sacrifice that those who were no longer with them had made and stood with her head bowed remembering each and every one of them, some of whom she knew and some of whom she didn't. But what she did know was that without all of them and the sacrifice they had made hardly anyone in this room would have made it back home. So she stood at attention and thanked every one of them from the bottom of her heart. As Captain Salid continued Josh paid attention knowing that he was finally building up to something that would indeed lift the spirits of both crews. Josh smiled as he mentioned the Squadron Commander's Commendation for all of them. Lord knew they certainly deserved it. Finally he got down to the promotions and awards that Josh knew both crews so richly deserved and for once she was glad to be standing where she was since it afforded her a birds eye view of those honoured. It started with Captain Durand and Josh smiled as he was given his medal. Moving on to T'Larah Josh smiled again as she received hers. Suddenly Ahmed was calling her forward and Josh stood almost rooted to the spot wondering why. Finally getting her feet to move she walked over to the Captain. "It is my honor as task Force Commander, under whose command you served, to be able to present you with this Legion of Honor. Please accept this token of appreciation for all your hard work and exceptional service to the United Federation of Planets. Your leadership and good judgment will continue to inspire junior officers for years to come. Congratulations Commander." "Thank you Sir." That was all she managed by way of reply and taking the box he held out she retreated back to where she had been standing, not entirely sure why she had been singled out since all she had done was her job. Opening the box she was surprised to see that it not only contained her medal but a small star shaped pip and knew immediately what that meant. Lifting the pip out of the box she pinned it to her collar opposite her rank pips and closing the box suddenly found herself wishing for her old CMO's lab coat since that at least had pockets where she could stash stuff. Lt Jackson was next to be called forward. The Legion of Honor for Tom too and a promotion to Lieutenant Commander. As Jackson stepped back to join her she leant towards him and whispered. "Congratulations Commander. You deserve it and you might want to open your box." Pointing at the star on her collar she nodded towards the box he held in his hand. (Reply Jackson iyw) She carried on smiling as the crew promotions and medals were awarded but her smile changed to a wide grin as Mike was called forward and promoted to Lieutenant and given the Cross of Fire and although all of the promotions and medals for the crew pleased her the only other one that made her grin again was when Nate was promoted to Master Chief. She had been his CMO and knew him well and was extremely happy for him. Captain Salid continued on with various different placements on the Rose, but only two of them really concerned Josh. The first was that Mike and his team was transferring to the Boudicca and the second that Kitty was assuming the role of ACMO on the Rose. Josh wanted nothing more than to jump off the podium and go congratulate both of them but knew that she would have to stay here a while longer since Captain Durand still had announcements to make. But as soon as he was finished and they had all been dismissed she would be right down there in amongst everyone congratulating them. (Reply Durand) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Star base Geneva, Assembly Area, Lieutenant Tom Jackson 2nd Officer / COPS, Day 4- 0905) Tom had joined others on the mobile dais. The sight of a 1,000 starship personnel assembled in one place was inspiring. He let his eyes wander over the crowd. It was one of those times he swore he saw his dead shipmates smiling back at him with nods of approval. He remembered the ones that he had to kill as these had become drones. His eyes welled up as he remembered Maria Holly's last words 'thanks' as she died in his arms. ~Will we ever get past these things and do good~ Tom wandered. He shrugged and forced his attention back to the here and now. Captain Salid began speaking. He looked at his old friend closely. The sadness and tiredness clearly evident in his skipper's face. Ahmed Salid ordered a moment of silence to honor those lost. Tom had another moment where his dead shipmates somehow signaled their forgiveness and understanding. The TF commander began the happier part of the assembly I awards and decorations. Tom enjoyed seeing his friends being rewarded. Personally he needed no reward as Dahlia was carrying their child. "Lieutenant Thomas Jackson, please step to the podium." "Aye Captain" Tom responded. He stepped to the CO. The captain went on. "It is my honor as task force commander and your Commanding officer to present you with this Legion of Honor. Your dedication and initiative aboard ship aided our mission by restoring a vital line of communications during our most desperate hour of need. In addition, I have the additional honor of hereby promoting you to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. You shall enjoy all the privileges and responsibilities of such a position. Congratulations Lieutenant Commander Jackson." Dahlia had moved to the podium next to Tom and she placed his new rank insignia on his collar and kissed him to the resounding cheers of his assembled friends. Tom Jackson turned beet red causing a few chuckles. Tom shook the CO's hand and saluted him. He returned to his seat (Reply: any present) (Posted by; Bill W.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva – Assembly Area – CO Captain Durand – 0908) He hated the concept, hated the gathering, but it was at best a necessary evil. He’d been mulling precisely what he would say as he listened intently to Captain Salid. Durand was no diplomat. He was a simple man, a warrior at heart. The wonderful eloquence that Salid showed obviated the need for Durand to say much of anything. He should, he supposed, give an inspirational and stirring speech about the noble sacrifice made by so many of the crews… but his heart was empty of emotion, save a bitter distaste for the whole affair. He couldn’t help but recall the conversation he and Salid had engaged in regarding the outcome of events. Somehow, Alan knew that what must happen, will happen. He had no words to follow the nobility of the task force commander. By the time he was called to the podium, he had settled any question, and none remained in his mind or heart. "Captain Alan Durand, please step to the podium." ~A bit early for my bit…~ He rose and drew himself to attention in front of Salid. “Sir.” He stated simply. "Captain Durand, it is my honor to present you with this Ribbon of sacrifice, in acknowledgment of the injuries that you sustained on the behalf of the United Federation of Planets during conflict with the Borg Collective. Thank you Captain." ~An award for getting myself knocked out of the fight at the critical moment? That’s one to wear with pride…~ He had nothing to say, but he let slip a slight frown which he was sure only Salid might see. He saluted the senior man, then turned sharply on his heel and returned to his seat as Commander Sullivan was called. (Reply Any) He sat and applauded politely as each of the officers were called singly or in groups to be duly recognized. They richly deserved it, every one of them. His discomfort faded as he was no longer the center of attention. Plenty of time would be available later for self-recrimination. Soon enough, he was recalled by the eloquent Salid. "Captain Durand, I hereby stand relieved at the podium. The assembly is yours, sir." “Thank you sir,” he began as he took his place at the podium just vacated by Captain Salid. He had mentally composed the little he had to say as he bided his time awaiting his turn to address the assembled crews. He spoke with little preamble. “Good morning. I wish to begin by thanking Captain Salid for the opportunity to address you all, though I feel he said nearly all that was worth saying. All I can add is my heartfelt thank you to those of you assembled here today, and those who are no longer able to join us. I have only two items on my agenda, so I will be brief. As many of you know, Commander Caskie has been acting – extremely ably, I might add – in the capacity of First Officer of the Boudicca for some time. I am most pleased to announce that with my recommendation, her agreement, and the approval of command, she will now assume that position on a permanent basis.” He turned toward Josh and smiled warmly at her. “Thank you Commander, and congratulations.” (Reply Caskie, Any) He paused a beat, then pressed on. “The second item is another personnel matter. As many of you know, Ensign (jg) Jacobs has been tapped as our acting Chief Engineer. Ensign, step forward please.” (Reply Jacobs) He waited until the aCEO of the Boudicca was in position at center stage, then stepped out from behind the podium and reached into his pocket. “By the authority vested in me by Starfleet Command, it is my pleasure and duty to promote you to the rank of Ensign, with all the responsibilities and privileges thereof. Congratulations, Ensign Jacobs.” He then deftly removed Jacob’s hollow pip, and affixed the replacement one on his collar. (Reply Jacobs, Any) After concluding that, he addressed the assembly once again. “Thank you all for your attention. Captain Salid, I have no further business to conduct, sir.” (Reply Salid iyw, Any) (Posted by Russ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva, Assembly Area, ATAC/SC Ensign (sg) Jessica Signos, Day 4- 0910) For Jessica time had passed slowly on the station, since Eian had left. She would wonder the station not knowing were to go or what to do. On the 14'th Valentines Day she found herself standing in front of Eian's holodeck. She wanted nothing else but to hold him in her arms, She wanted nothing else but to take back what she had said. She reached out and placed a hand on the door. "Fates, spirits, forces that guide all things please protect Eian for the pain I could not, help him to heal and to once again find his way." She spoke the prayer softly, It wasn't much of a Valentines Day gift but it was the best she could think of. She left then not wanting to haunt his door to long. She made her way to medical, It was time for another medical appointment. She was healed enough now that she could walk. It was difficult and she walk noticeably slower than before but do to the attention of the medical staff they told her that she would be duty fit in another day or two. Which was fine by Jessica. Now it was the 15th and Jessica sat amongst the crowd of officers from the Rose and Bouddica, listening to Captain Salid asking for a moment of Silence for the price that was paid with their lives to grant them the victory the crews of both Ships achieved. She clapped has awards were handed out to the deserving. It was in this part f the ceremony she her the Captain address. "Lieutenants Chance Raschen, Sanok, Ben Soma, and Ensigns Jessica Signos and Mike Rosenbauer, please step to the podium." Jessica rose with her comrades and made her way slowly to the podium and stood with those she had fought and bled with. The Captain continued, "On the behalf of the United Federation of Planets it is my honor as your Commanding officer to present each of you with the Cross of Fire. Congratulations to you all." Jessica nodded has the awards and her new rank was handed out. "Thank you, Sir. " She replied when it was appropriate. After which she turned and made her way back to her seat. She was glad and honored that she was awarded for her services. But no award could fill the hollow place that was left in her heart, the fact she could share this moment with someone she still cared deeply for hurt, and made the moment feel somewhat empty. She watched has Shortly after Eian was called to the front. Tears came to Jessica's eyes when he was awarded for his sacrifice and promoted. She felt proud of him, even if he did not feel the same about himself. She saw his pain, saw how he was likewise suffering. The time apart only seem to wear on the poker face that Eian was so good at mustering to hide his true feelings. Jessica decided then that enough was enough in the morning she was going to go to him. Ask him to forgive what she was. She still loved him, and from what she saw he still loved her. As long has there was a chance she was gonna fight for that love. Jessica refused to lose Eian to the Borg, to Volus. She refused to lose him now. She watched the rest of the proceedings with a sly smile on her face, has in her mind she plotted how to get her man back. It had been a difficult mission and it was nothing short of a miracle that they were here now. Many hadn't returned, those who did would never forget the sacrifice of their fallen comrades. The command staff of both ships were assembled on a podium, they had lead the crews through the ordeal. Ben took a quick look around, he didn't know how the others felt but he was proud to have served with them. He was honored to have served with them and with those that had given all. They had been pushed to the limits of their endurance both physically and mentally but they held together, they pushed on when they wanted to quit. Captain Salid began the briefing and everyone fell silent, he began by addressing those who paid the ultimate price for their survival. They did indeed owe them all a debt of gratitude that could never be repaid, then the Captain asked all to join him in a moment of silence. Ben lowered his head and remembered those who had served with and under him, those who were not here with them now. When the time had passed the Captain continued, commendations and promotions followed. All were given the the Squadron Commander's Commendation. Captain Durand received the ribbon of sacrifice, Sullivan received the combat action ribbon, Caskie was presented with the legion of honor as was Jackson along with a promotion to lieutenant commander. The Ben heard his name called out with his colleagues in tactical and security. "Lieutenants Chance Raschen, Sanok, Ben Soma, and Ensigns Jessica Signos and Mike Rosenbauer, please step to the podium." Ben moved to stand with the others before the podium. "On the behalf of the United Federation of Planets it is my honor as your Commanding officer to present each of you with the Cross of Fire. It is because of your dedication, skill and determination in the defense and offense against the Borg Collective that we are here today to hold these proceedings. Congratulations to you all." Ben waited for his turn to step forward and receive his cross and new rank pip. He felt both honored and sad at the same time, it would have been a happier occasion if all involved were present. He accepted both on behalf of those who had fallen, if not for them he wouldn't be here to receive either. "Thank you." Ben said to the joined command staffs. He fell back into his position until the everyone had received their awards and promotions and then returned to the crowd. The awards and promotions continued and then the Captain announced some positional changes. Chance was moved to Beta shift leader, Sanok was to assume the role of security chief in his place, Jessica was transferred to the Rose as Atac. Rosenbauer and his team were transferred to the Boud, Captain Durand was receiving some highly skilled officers, their presence aboard the Rose would be missed. Ichijo was being moved to Geneva and Fisher was taking her place as ACMO. Change was inevitable, that was one constant in the universe. Ben looked forward to serving with the new crew and continuing to serve with her present crew. Once Captain Salid was finished with his list of awards and commendations he turned the podium over to Captain Durand and he began his own promotions, awards and internal restructuring. When all the business was taken care of Ben moved about congratulating those who were promoted and decorated, which turned out to be almost as exhausting as fighting the Borg. He knew the compliment of both ships but seeing everyone in one place really but those numbers into perspective. He went to join his friend, he had saved him for last. "Congratulations on the promotion." He stated. "Security chief, eh. Looks like I won't be bossing you around anymore." He added with a grin. (reply Sanok, any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Assembly Area - ACEO Lt JG Eian O'Neill - Day 4 - 0915) Eian hated moments of silence. He always had, even when he could pray. Now he couldn't even do that. It was awkward, with one stimuli taken completely from him, and his mind wandered to so many different places in that brief moment that he had to remind himself where he was and what he was supposed to be thinking about. Those who were lost. A voice in the back of his head asked him, ~Was your soul among them?~ Thankfully, the Captain continued and interrupted that line of thought. He began to give various individuals commendations and promotions. He saw Jessica's promotion, and beat back a lump in his throat and anger in his chest. He was allowing her to be promoted despite her status as a Section 31 operative. He hadn't told the Captain. He hadn't seen her in days and had avoided everyone, especially his father. He had buried himself in his physical therapy holodeck program, first playing football with famous quarterbacks and runningbacks. They reacted slowly to his slow and deliberate movements, and the football even flew through the air at a slower rate to allow him time to get to it to catch. He had graduated to ice hockey yesterday, and had started getting his balance back on skates. He was now walking without a limp and was able to catch a ball with his prosthetic arm, making excellent progress. He was sore as hell from all that physical activity, but it was a good kind of sore. Not the kind of sore one has after being de-assimilated and having one's body reconstructed from scratch. He was looking forward to getting back to that as soon as this ceremony was over. He was growing antsy, tired of watching others be promoted and commended. Suddenly, the Captain said, "Lieutenant Eian O'Neill and Commander Matthew McLaren please step to the podium." ~Oh, no. No, no, no...I don't want this. I don't deserve this. I did nothing but get assimilated. I don't belong up there with heroes.~ He was intensely uncomfortable as he made his way forward. Historically, he had done very well in front of crowds, always approaching them with confidence and wowing the crowd with his ability to speak in public. He did better in front of thousands than he did in front of two or three. But right now, he felt butterflies in his stomach and gritted his teeth, forcing a neutral expression onto his face. "In recognition of your sacrifice and of the assimilation and loss of your individuality," the Captain said, and Eian looked straight ahead, trying not to flinch at that statement, "while undertaking a mission for the safety and security of the United Federation of Planets, I am honored to present you with this Ribbon of Sacrifice. In addition, as commanding officer of the Rosenante, I am hereby promoting Eian O'Neill to the rank of Lieutenant Senior Grade. Congratulations, gentlemen." Eian wanted to run off the podium and get away from the faces staring at him, but he continued to look straight ahead as he saluted, accepted his commendation and extra rank pip, and finished with, "Thank you, Sir." As he shook the Captain's hand, he recognized that he had never felt shame like this. He was an imposter. He was not the same Eian O'Neill the Captain thought he had as an officer. He was a man without a purpose in life, an officer who succeeded only in getting himself assimilated during a critical mission, and a coward who couldn't even tell his Captain that he had an assassin on his ship, after all the *true* sacrifice that man had given in losing half his crew to keep them alive and save humanity. Finally, he got off stage. To his horror, he saw his father in the back. He had to get out of there...but he couldn't. He had to sit through the rest of the briefing. So he forced himself back into his seat, and attempted to zone out. He remained polite as the commendations and promotions were handed out to deserving officers, he noted some were more reluctant to be seen than others. ~I'd be just as nervous,~ he mused as he watched some obviously torn officer take his commendation and rank pip. When the milling began, Viskhard landed himself against a wall and observed the crowd, wondering which ones were to be his new crewmates aboard the Rosenante. He kept his hands firmly clamped behind his back, almost daring anyone to try and profer their own to shake. Visk was very typically Denobulan in that he hated being touched, though he did enjoy crowds when he knew people. Today, however, he felt out of sorts and his eyes reflected that by taking on a pale-ish electric blue, the normal, calm deep blue lost in favour of the nerves. The captain asked for a moment of silence to commemorate the dead and as everyone followed suit Jacobs thought about his own personal sacrifice in saving another crew member and consequently losing his eye. He raised his right hand over his wound and began to relive the attack. As the moment of silence ended Captain Salid moved onto a more pleasant topic of commendations and promotions. The atmosphere of the room drastically changed as everyone saw their comrades being praised for their hard work and determination. Everyone on both ships received medals for their valor and dedication during the mission. It was a further surprise when Captain Salid called Henry up to the podium. The captain bestowed additional medals for Jacobs' expertise and innovation in stopping the Borg. Jacobs replied to the captain with a generic thanking and remained standing on the podium as Captain Salid continued. As the captain's voice faded into the background Jacobs looked out to where he was sitting and how the spot next to him was occupied by Eva. They had spent the night before celebrating Valentine's day and every memory of the event ran through Jacobs mind simultaneously causing Jacobs to smile. Henry was lost in his thoughts as something the captain was saying brought him back to reality. "Lieutenant Junior Grade, Rosenbauer and his team have requested and been granted permission to transfer to the USS Boudicca which will take affect immediately after the conclusion of this briefing." ~ Oh, crap~ he thought to himself as the words started to make sence. ~she is coming to the Boudicca, this changes everything~ The commendations continued until the podium was turned over to Captain Durand. The captain had loose ends to tie up with his staff and he addressed them at the same time. “By the authority vested in me by Starfleet Command, it is my pleasure and duty to promote you to the rank of Ensign, with all the responsibilities and privileges thereof. Congratulations, Ensign Jacobs.” "Thank you, captain" Jacobs responded as he shook his commanding officers hand. He moved out of the way and back to where he was standing until the assembly was over. The grin indicated that Ben was picking on him, but it was true that Ben was no longer his department chief with Sanok being moved to Chief of Security. Not sure what to say, he gave a simple response. "Indeed." A few moments of silence passed and Sanok changed the subject. "I was able to secure passage to Axtis III aboard a freighter. Ben replied. "It'll feel like home." Ben looked around the assembly area as everyone moved about congratulating each other on promotions and awards and new positions, it was a time to celebrate but Ben didn't feel up to it. Not yet, he had one more thing to accomplish before he could celebrate. The crew had sacrificed a lot to be here now, they deserved it. He wished he could stay and join in what ever parties that would spring up, but he had to find Marah before he could allow himself to rest. If after all these years he's gotten his parents back he had to hold on to the hope that he would find Marah as well. "Let's stick around for a while." Ben said after a while. This was one of those times when crews were given an opportunity to reflect, grieve, and honor those who gave their lives, friendships, served in the line of duty. Matrix bowed his head and joined both crews in a moment of silence. As the Captain spoke of fallen comrades and honored those who served he couldn't help but reflect on the mission, the lost friends and crew mates under his direct command. Duty or not, the loss of life wasn't an easy thing to swallow. Matrix smiled as awards and promotions were conferred. He took great pride in the award and promotion of Eian O'Neill and applauded loudly of his sacrifice and honor. Matrix was happy to see Eian doing well and eager to get back into a normal routine. As the Captain ran through the other awards familiar faces and names appeared that he hadn't seen assembled since before the mission. Commander Caskie, Lieutenant Jackson, Sanok, Rosendbauer and others. Matrix smiled that they were recognized and awarded. His smile turned serious when his name was announced. "Ensign Henry Jacobs and Lieutenant Steve Matrix, please step to the podium" said the Captain. "Aye sir." replied Matrix as he straightened his uniform and approached the podium. "It is my honor as task force commander to present to you both the Starfleet Achievement Medal. Congratulations to you both." Matrix smiled with gratitude, "Thank you Captain." said Matrix. He shook the Captain's hand and resumed his place among his fellow crew mates and listened intently to the other awards and promotions. This was now a time of celebration. Their mood turned positive, almost of jubilation as they recognized each others achievements, promotions, etc. Much of the Boudicca crew Matrix only recognized by their voices...he'd never met many of them in person. Matrix approached a group he did know and overheard Ben suggest they relish this moment a bit longer. "Let's stick around for a while." Ben said after a while. "Shake some more hands and exchange battle stories, reminisce about the good times with our honored dead." Matrix smiled, "Good idea Ben. "Lets put in a order and have some drinks brought up." They moved off and made the request, a while later several servers arrived and began handing out the drinks to the assembled officers. When everyone had their drinks Ben removed his commbadge and began tapping it on his glass. "Everyone if I could have your attention for a moment." He said as he continued to tap. The back ground conversations began to die as everyone turned their attention to Ben, when everyone was facing him he raised his glass. "To fallen comrades and absent friends." He said. "May their sacrifice never be forgotten and may they live forever in our hearts." The room echoed with here here's as everyone raised their glasses to join him in his toast. Commander Tom Jackson --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva, USS Rosenante Repair Station Observation Slip, CEO Lieutenant Commander Steven Matrix, Day 4 - 1321) Even in her current condition the Rose was a beautiful sight. In only a few days the refit crews had stripped much of the damaged areas down to bare tritanium and some areas were stripped to the skeletal infrastructure. The plasma burns and chard areas around the ship were already cleaned and crews were applying her new outer skin. The nacelles were completely disassembled down to their anchor points in many areas. The power conduits and support pylons and even some field coils were visible from where Matrix stood. From the repair slip, Matrix was positioned on the port side, nearly center mass of the Rosenante's engineering hull, but nearly level with mid-deck section of the saucer area. The refit slip had large monitors that provided nearly 100% visibility of every section of the ship. Three engineering schedulers could be seen over the primary hull in completely transparent booths. Their job was to direct the flow of materials and people to all sections of the ship during the refit process. Autonomous material shuttles could be seen moving replacement equipment and materials around her hull. Within plain view Matrix observed a crew of seven in extravehicular suits moving replication pods into exposed areas. These industrial replicators were used to literally replicate entire hull sections into place. There were massive umbilical power feeds that resembled octopus legs running back up to the Geneva power feeds just out of sight of the Geneva's external power feed junctions. In the di stance the USS Boudicca was visible in her repair slip and Matrix pondered the repairs she was undergoing. It was indeed a sight to behold, especially for an engineer. "Matrix?" said a familiar voice. Matrix turned to greet the inquirer. "Yes?" he replied. Then his brain processed the face of someone he had not seen in a very long time. "Brad! Holly cow what are you doing out here on the Geneva?" said Matrix as he hugged his old friend. "Well I'm trying to get back to Sol Center, Star Fleet Command really. I've been appointed to the academy as an instructor." replied Brad Mathewson. "Wow...really? Not that you wouldn't make a great instructor, but I'd never pictured you with such a structured life. How's Ann doing?" asked Matrix. Brad frowned, "You didn't hear?" he asked. Matrix looked serious, "No, I haven't heard much lately. I've been out with the fleet for the past year....what happened?" Matrix asked. "I'm sorry Steve, I thought you'd heard. Ann passed away about six months ago. Cardaian fever. The doctors think she was exposed on a trip to Rigel Seven. She was complaining about not feeling well on the way back, but the docs though it was simply space sickness. When we arrived back on Earth four days later they admitted her, and passed away a few days later." replied Brad. Matrix paused, "I'm so sorry my friend." said Matrix as he placed his hand on the shoulder of his old friend. "Thank you, but these things happen. After her funeral I decided to do something different...and I came up with teaching." replied Brad. "That's a leap considering you're such a rebel. How did you get hooked up at Star Fleet Academy...of all places?" asked Matrix. "Fate I guess. I'm apparently one of a few people who know anything about quantum warp theory." said Brad. "Well I guess all those years in the lab are paying off now eh?" said Matrix. "Yea apparently. So have you made Chief Engineer on the Geneva yet?" asked Brad. Matrix smirked, "Ah no...we have a lot to catch up on. " replied Matrix. Brad's mood changed, "I'm sorry I assumed since you're aboard..." replied Brad. Matrix smiled, "It was for the best I think...can I buy you lunch? We can catch up over a good meal, I'm hungry." asked Matrix. Brad smiled, "I've got six hours before the next transport leaves...you bet...but this time I'm buying." replied Mathewson. The name stuck among the Geneva crew because of all the restaurants on this particular deck. This deck also provided a great view of the refit slips. Many vendors coveted this location because of the ship activity the Geneva provided. Matrix smiled at the hostess. The Agrarian Woman was striking and smiled back at both of the officers. "Would this be acceptable to you?" she asked as she sat the two men near a view port of the Rosenante in her refit slip. "Perfect...this is perfect." said Matrix as he took a seat. "Ah let me recall...its late enough...and I assume you're not on duty...a dry Cardassian Martini for my friend...and...I'll have the same" The hostess nodded and left the men to talk. "So...Steve....what's happened to you since we last met? You're stationed on the Geneva?" asked Brad. "No...I'm here on leave. My ship...my new ship is undergoing a refit." said Matrix. "Brad looked to his right...that ship? The Rosenante?" he asked. "Yes we just ended a mission..." said Matrix. "She looks like hell...I heard...you engaged the Borg...news travels fast. I heard about the Rose and the Boudicca. In fact that was the buzz on the USS Orion on the way to the Geneva. One of the passengers has a brother aboard the Boudicca and had some first hand correspondence about the engagement. So you're assigned to the Rose now? " asked Brad. "I am..." replied Matrix. Brad finally recognized the rank insignia on Matrix's collar and smiled, "I guess I should pay attention to rank these days...congratulations. I just noticed the Lieutenant Commander pips on your collar! Excellent...when did that happen?" asked Brad with a big smile. "Recently. In fact when we got back here early today. The two ships had an assembly and the promotions were announced." said Matrix. "Engineer? CEO!? asked Brad. "Yes, been the CEO for sometime now. The promotion was a surprise...I wasn't expecting that since I lost the CEO slot on the Geneva about a year ago. Wasn't going well here, some personal issues...finally got my act together and worked hard." said Matrix. An Andorran waitress stopped by the table and dropped off their drinks. "What else can I get you two handsome humans?" she asked. Brad spoke up, "I'll take the Quarks special...extra hot sauce please." said Brad. Matrix smiled at the order, "I'll take the Sol Burger, regular fries please." he said. "Thank you gentlemen...I'll bring that right out when its ready." said the waitress. "So...tell me Brad...are you doing okay? I mean since Ann..." said Matrix. Brad smiled, "Yes I'm doing fine...I've been traveling a lot...helps keep my mind off of things. Being busy and with all the sites I've seen recently...I hadn't had much time to think about it. Still I do miss Ann..." said Brad. Matrix took a sip of his drink. The USS Horatio is scheduled to leave docking station 14 for Sol Center. I still need to get my gear packed and stowed aboard." replied Mathewson. "Well if the Rose was in inspection shape I'd love to show her off to you. Perhaps if we get to Earth anytime soon we'll have an opportunity to do just that. She's a fine ship." said Matrix. "If you say so Steve...she certainly doesn't look like much at the moment." said Brad with a smile and a wink. "I'm just glad you got out alive. Thanks for sharing your mission with me. That must have been hell." said Brad. "It helps to talk about it, thanks for listening." said Matrix as he motioned over the waitress. "What's your plan once you get back to Earth?" said Matrix as he gave the waitress his credit ID to pay for lunch. "Well I have to check in with Admiral Chesterfield, figure out what I'll be teaching, but first I need to find a place to live. I don't really want to live on campus." replied Mathewson. "Well you can probably live anywhere on the planet and beam to the Academy, but I suspect they'll want you pretty close. Besides, San Francisco is a fantastic city." said Matrix. Brad replied, "I haven't been in San Fran since Ann died. She loved it...wanted to rise a family there." "The best thing you can do is honor her by starting a new life for yourself." replied Matrix. Sanok remained standing, his hands clasped behind his back. "As you already know, Ben and I will be leaving to search for Marah, tomorrow morning, in fact. Before we go, I wanted to make sure you were both all right. Is there anything you need?" "That's mighty nice of you, Sanok," said Ned. Beside him, Freya smiled broadly. Sanok could see Ben's smile in his mother. "So, is there anything you need?" said Sanok. Ned and Freya laughed, but Sanok didn't know why. "Well, Sanok, there is actually something we need," said Ned. He paused before continuing. "We need to know that going after this Marah woman, really is the right thing to do for Ben." Sanok tilted his head to one side. "We want Ben to be happy," said Freya, "but from what we understand, it's been more than five years since you've seen her. She was abducted from Earth, for goodness sake! How can you possibly find her now? The galaxy is so big, and there is so much that has happened since the last time you saw her...." There was a worried tone in her voice. She reached out and clasped her husband's hand. "It is something we must do," said Sanok. "Just like the mission to stop the Borg, and our willingness to sacrifice ourselves on the Tkon sphere. "I cannot emphasize to you what it has meant to Ben to have you back, to learn that you were still alive and could be returned to him. A part of him that was buried deeply, a part that was no longer alive, is alive again. With both of you back, and with the opportunity to find Marah, Ben will again have all the people he loves." Freya's face began to turn red and her eyes moistened. No one spoke for a few moments until Ned broke the silence. He spoke in a soft voice. "You need to do everything you can to find this young woman. Ben is lucky to have you by his side, Sanok. We're lucky to have you as our son, too." A huge smile appeared on Freya's face. Normally, when things had become emotional like this, Sanok would begin to feel uncomfortable inside. However, this time, he did not. He wasn't sure why, but it was agreeable to him that Ben's parents felt that way about him. "While you and Ben are out there, Sanok," said Freya, "you both need to be very careful. You'll watch out for each other, right?" "Now, dear," said Ned. "Of course they'll watch each other's backs." He squeezed his wife's hand. "We will be careful," said Sanok. "I will make sure Ben comes back to you." "And you come back, too, Sanok!" said Freya. Sanok noticed Ned rolling his eyes. "I will." Sanok saw a nurse eying him. "I believe the medical personnel feel I should leave now," said Sanok. "Come closer, Sanok," said Freya. Sanok gave her a questioning look. "Come closer." The large smile had returned to Freya's face. Sanok moved next to Freya. She reached up towards him and encircled him with her arms in a big hug. Phased out of normal vision and scanning, it went unnoticed amongst the cargo rooms, storage closets, and other nooks and crannies found in most massive starbases. A starbase wasn't just a city floating in space. It was more like a country, or even a small continent. Hell, it could be considered a minor planet. Hayden loved operating out of a starbase. He had successfully done so for the last twenty-five years, and went completely unnoticed by everyone around him. When it was time to go out into the 'real world,' he did so as George Hayden, the kind middle-aged man who ran the shoe shop on the Starbase. He picked his own hours. He polished shoes, handcrafted shoes, repaired shoes, and sold shoes for any customer who wished to have a genuine fit instead of a replicator's attempt at authenticity. A man with roots, George Hayden, Jr. was born to Lisa and George Hayden, Sr in a small town called Allentown in a place called Pennsylvania on Earth. He had grown up with a fair amount of money, always having enough to eat and enough entertainment to keep him occupied. He went to school in Allentown along with fourteen other children in his class, all of which graduated with him. He ran his father's shoe store for a few years before he mysteriously vanished. George Hayden was the epitome of average. He didn't look strange, have a tortured past, have any skeletons in his closet that weren't a direct result of Section 31...but he did have something that most average humans didn't have. Sociopathy. An intelligent sociopath could operate in society for his entire life and never be found out. The definition of a sociopath was one who couldn't sympathize with others and would do whatever was necessary to obtain an end goal. If one was intelligent enough, he could rise to power, become a President, gain millions of bars of latinum, and never kill a soul. But George was attracted to something else. He wanted to be an operative. His goal in life was to simply subvert everyone around him, and live a double life so close to the edge that one would almost suspect something upon examination, but then shrug it off as one shrugs off the feeling of being watched in an empty room. Hayden entered the tiny room on the Starbase as it was currently phased out of 'reality', and looked at the small figure suspended in the sling about three feet off the ground. She was child-like, he mused. He had always wanted to experiment with a child, but the right circumstances never presented themselves. He might settle for this as a sort of preview to what it might be like in the future. Jessica Signos was suspended in a sling that looked much like a child carrier, with five holes for her head, arms, and legs. Her arms were crossed on the outside of the sling and bound tightly to her chest, completely restricting their movement. Her legs were extended downward and encased in industrial-strength tubing to prevent her from moving them. They were chained to the floor for good measure. Finally, her head was allowed to sag, not supported by anything as she was unconscious. It leaned against the rope hooked to each shoulder of the sling, suspending Jessica from the ceiling. She would not escape from this. She could not resist them. Hayden's job was to break her. It was what he did best. He would start with a Romulan mind probe, and then escalate to real torture. He placed the probes on her temples and stood back, sticking his hands in his pockets and looking rather like a man waiting for a transport. He even began to whistle a cheery little tune. (reply Jessica) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Unknown Location - ATAC/SC Ensign (sg) Jessica Signos - Day 5 - 0537) Jessica started to come to she, knew not how or when she fell unconscious, but upon waking she found herself in a precarious situation. I man walked in front of her, as Jessica tried to will the fog to lift from her mind. ~Don't move...~ Lily warned, and Jessica closed her eyes and let her head go limp. ~ Act has though you still asleep.~ Her second personality continued. ~You are in a Section 31 safe haven and right now quite securely bound. The man you saw is an Operative known has Hayden is a specialist in multiple types of torture and if He's here it's only for one purpose...~ Lily went Silent for a bit. ~and that is to break you.~ Lily was quite for a bit letting Jessica absorb all she said. ~What's going on?~ Jessica asked Lily. ~Section 31 has decided that only one personality is needed for this body. Jessica they are gonna try to kill you. To break your mind, spirit, personality, and leave this body an empty shell.~ Lily responded slowly. ~How in the hell do you know this.~ Jessica demanded. ~I helped build this contingency, has I was ordered by Section 31 has a test of my loyalty to them, in case it ever became apparent that you could interfere with the goals and plans of Section 31.~ ~What?~ was all Jessica could respond with. ~Unlike me you aren't programmed to give them your loyalty you still have your free will.~ Lily expounded has Jessica understood what they were attempting to do to her. ~I'm sorry Jessica this you must do on your own and you must survive this under no reasons are you to let me take over for you.~ Lily spoke quickly as they felt a device being placed on her temples. Lily knowing the device from her past fell silent and became distant in Jessica's mind. Knowing that the further she was now the more time she could buy Jessica. It would be a painful time but hopefully someone would come looking for her. (reply Hayden) (posted by Matthew Locke) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Unknown Location - Operative Hayden - Day 5 - 0540) He watched as she pretended to be asleep. She was so peaceful. So much like a child. He reached out with his index finger, and not quite touching her, he traced a line from the top of her cheek to the bottom of her chin. He stopped where her chin met her neck, and withdrew his finger slowly, gently. He smiled. "Lily, stop playing 'possum,'" he said softly, as if she was his daughter. She was young enough to be. Perhaps this was the analogy he would adopt for this subject. (reply Jessica) His smile broadened and he squeezed her shoulder affectionately, as a father would. "We'll bring you out of your shell yet," he said, and walked away momentarily. When he came back, he was carrying a small cylinder about the same size as the Romulan mind probes. He placed one on the front of her neck just below her chin, over her trachea. He placed the other on the back of her neck. He then pulled a remote from his pocket, and showed her. "You've seen these before, Lily. You recommended them as a mild torture tactic." The victim would feel as if he or she was asphyxiating. Based on the setting on the remote, one could feel as if they were drowning, being choked, being smothered, dying of smoke inhalation, or any number of other kinds of asphyxiation. "I'll start with a low setting and keep it as a distraction as we talk. If you don't respond," he said rather clinically, "then we'll need to increase the level." Without further warning, he activated the device. (reply Jessica) He pulled up a chair, slouched down in a relaxed position, crossed one leg over his knee, and said, "Tell me about yourself. Tell me about your parents." (reply Jessica) He shook his head. "I don't like that answer," he said, sounding like a primary school teacher addressing a young student. He increased the level. "Try again," he encrouaged. (reply Jessica) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Medical Holodeck 16 - CMDR Liam O'Neill - Day 5 - 0700) Liam had been patient. He had recognized the enormous emotional burden that was laid upon his son's shoulders. He knew Eian was struggling with his faith--he would struggle with *his* faith if he was assimilated. He couldn't imagine how anyone of faith wouldn't. He had waited for four complete days, and had endured being shrugged off and ignored like he was when Eian was a young teenager. He had beaten down the disappointment, then the hurt, then the annoyance, and finally the anger that came after Eian outright refused to watch any of the holovids he had purchased, participate in any of the holoprograms he had acquired, or even talk to his father. He had even let it go when his son simply disappeared after his promotion ceremony, and refused dinner. But the straw that broke the camel's back was when Glenn called. Eian's little brother, now almost a man himself at age eighteen. He had been accepted into Starfleet Academy and was going to start in March. He was still on Starbase 89, where the Kelman left him and many other civilians. Glenn would have taken the transport to Geneva, but he had gotten caught up in some charity work and wanted to stay for another week instead while the Kelman underwent its six-month availability. The teenager wanted to know if Eian was okay, and asked why he hadn't answered any of Glenn's calls. After explaining that Eian was going through a rough time and that he was physically okay but just needed some time to himself, Liam marched to Holodeck 16 and let himself in. He found Eian playing hockey in slow motion, the professional players passing the slow-moving puck to his son who was obviously exerting himself as much as he could, but found puck handling difficult with his diminished motor skills. "Computer, pause program," Liam ordered. It wasn't lost on the commander that his son had left the holodeck unlocked. This meant there was still hope. Perhaps Eian was hoping someone would barge in and stop him. But it wasn't a grateful young man that Liam was faced with now. A full three inches taller with skates on, Eian was still shorter than his father but was using his extra height to his advantage as he angrily skated over and demanded, "What are you doing?!" "Lower your voice and get control of yourself," Liam told him sternly, and stood his ground. He said nothing else, but stared at his son with the same expression that he gave brand new crewmen and ensigns alike. Eian seemed to back down a bit, remembering who he was talking to. "What do you need?" he revised his question. "I need to know what's going on with you," his father responded, and looked into his son's eyes with compassion. "I can't imagine what you're going through. But I know you can't do it on your own." "I'm doing just fine," Eian answered too quickly. "I'm trying to get my motor skills back up, and I'm doing my physical therapy--" "24/7, yes, I know. This holodeck is reserved for you so that you can do your daily therapy any time of the day. Not hole up in here with your dog *all day* for seven days." Murphy, the small puppy, was running laps around the bleachers while chasing a tennis ball. He was free to go on the ice with Eian, but seemed to have tired of that or was avoiding the cold. "It's been five." "Would it be seven if someone didn't stop you?" "Don't ask me questions like that," Eian said, barely containing his anger as he skated away. "Eian! You can't go on like this!" Liam yelled. "Listen to me! I've been in even darker places than you're in right now." He stepped onto the ice, slipping as he walked after his son. "I don't know what's going on in your head right now. I'm not a psychologist and I've never been through what you have. But I know what it's like to think you don't deserve to live." Eian didn't turn around. Liam slipped past Wayne Gretzky and Patrick Kane, frozen in place. "Please listen," he turned to pleading. Finally, Eian pivoted on one skate and turned 180 degrees to face his father. And once he did, Liam was lost for words for a moment. He stopped, bowed his head, and said, "Eian, none of us deserve to live. It is by the grace of God--" "Please shut up, Dad," Eian's voice was barely audible, but contained such hurt and sorrow that Liam looked up and saw his son near tears. "Go. Okay?" Liam recognized for the first time that he simply couldn't get through. He needed help. He didn't want to go to a professional yet, because it would go on his son's record that a superior officer recommended counseling. But he couldn't do this himself. He nodded slowly, and turned and slipped past the famous players and off the ice. "I'm not giving up on you, Eian," he said, and wasn't sure if Eian heard. "Computer, resume program." Liam left for the only person he thought may be able to get through. (reply none necessary) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase Geneva - Signos' Temporary Quarters - CMDR Liam O'Neill - Day 5 - 0715) Jessica was not Eian's first girlfriend, but she was the first girlfriend he had confided in before he had confided in his father and mother. Liam remembered Eian confessing his deepest feelings to him as they worked on the family's personal shuttle together. He had stated that he loved a girl in secondary school with him, and he had seemed serious about it for a fifteen-year-old boy. Now Liam was met with an entirely new scenario. Jessica and his son had disappeared together after the last day that Eian had even attempted to act like his normal self. He could only assume that his son had let out some personal feelings that he wasn't ready to expose yet, and had run to the holodeck to hide as a result. It was perfectly normal for a trauma survivor. He had let her alone for the past four days because of her medical condition. She needed time to rest and recuperate and didn't need her boyfriend's father bugging her with his worries. Liam approached her quarters now out of desperation. He rang the chime, and awaited an answer. None came. "Computer, locate Ensign Signos." [Ensign Jessica Signos cannot be found.] That was odd. Normally the computer would state that she wasn't on the station if her signature wasn't found. "Computer, specify if Ensign Signos has left Starbase Geneva, and if so, her time of departure." [This information is not available.] ~What? What the hell?~ "Computer, override lock on Signos' personal quarters, authorization O'Neill-1013-foxtrot-omega-65." [Authorization accepted.] The door slid open, and Liam was met with a disaster. The coffee table was in shambles, small generic trinkets included in temporary quarters were strewn about the room, the computer that once sat on the desk had fallen to the floor and the screen was bent from the base, and there were small blood spatters scattered all over the carpet. ~Oh, my God. Jesus, protect her.~ "Security to Ensign Signos' personal quarters immediately. This is Commander Liam O'Neill of the Kelman, I'm reporting a break-in and a possible kidnapping." He hadn't explored the rest of the quarters to see if she had been killed and not kidnapped, almost afraid of what he would find. But he didn't want to start walking around an active crime scene and disturbing evidence. So he stood in place in the doorjamb, faced with the prospect that he could lose the one person who could help his son. If Jessica disappeared or died, he feared Eian would be lost forever. The meeting with the shipyard officer in charge of the Rosenante's refit ran long and he didn't accomplish much more than to argue about how to incorporate the new computer core into main engineering. Something that always irritated Matrix was architects not listening to real world experience. The discussion was far from over and to ensure that nothing would be installed without his approval, Matrix punched up the Geneva's refit schedule and put a hold on the computer core install. Being the CEO of the Rose had its privileges, not to mention the fact that Matrix had inside knowledge on how the Geneva's systems functioned. That allowed Matrix to place a hold on the core refit and made it appear it was due to a materials issue. That would likely not raise any concerned and appear routine. Matrix noted Tom Jackson had already arrived. Matrix cleared his throat, "My apologies for running late gentlemen Lieutenant Commander Steven Matrix reporting." (Reply Carlisle) "No sir, I was running late from my meeting with the Rosenante's refit officer in the mooring slip." replied Matrix. Hello everyone. I'm Captain Garret Zephyr, the Fleet liaison officer here on the Geneva. I'm here to help assist you in your transition to your new rank and consequently your new rolls and responsibilities. You are all seasoned officers, many of you have served on more than a few ships in your career, but now you've earned the additional responsibility that comes with extremely hard work and success. We're assembled here today to give you an introduction into this new responsibility." said Captain Zephyr. Matrix fumbled with his PADD briefly his mind still on the conversation with the refit officer. "Excuse me, Commander Matrix...you seem preoccupied. Is there something I can help you with to focus your attention?" said Zephyr. Matrix was visibly embarrassed, "My apologies Captain and to everyone here. My mind is on the refit operations. I'm the CEO aboard the Rosenante so my roll and responsibility, as you put it Captain, is on my ship at the moment. I will endeavor to keep my focus to the task at hand sir." replied Matrix. Zephyr smiled, "I didn't mean to catch you off guard Commander. You should know that your ship is in good hands I think you can relax and rest assured that the Rose is well taken care of. But, I admire your loyalty. However, lets continue." said Zephyr. Captain Zephyr dimmed the lights in the room. A large display lit up showing the customary Star Fleet emblem. "I would like to take this opportunity to give you an brief overview of the training you'll undergo while you're here aboard the Geneva. First and foremost you all will undergo a debriefing with a senior Star Fleet councilor about your recent mission and experience with the Borg. Its important for us to give you an opportunity to discuss any concerns, issues and insights you may have learned while you engaged the Borg in you last mission. That said, the main priority of the debrief is to give you an opportunity to evaluate and reflect on your success. This is a time for you to discuss any emotional issues you may be experiencing as a result of the mission, loss of fiends and crew mates and the stresses that you all endured." continued Zephyr. Captain Zephyr paused and took a drink from a glass of water on the table before him. "There will be a number of mandatory classes that we will conduct in this training facility. Those of you who are rather observant might have noticed this is a holodeck. We will run simulations that will help you hone your command skills under real conditions, real consequences. You will fail and you will learn from your mistakes. Think of this as a learning opportunity because it is. This will largely be a social and interaction simulation to test your ability to command, make decisions and see the consequences of those decisions. You will come away with new skill sets and a baseline of tactics you can use in your new rolls and responsibilities. said Zephyr. "Any questions so far?" asked Zephyr. "Good...Captain Calisle do you have anything to add before I get into the first session?" asked Zephyr. (Reply Calisle) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Aldavye, Slave Processing Complex, Marah Neru, 1000) Marah sat on her bed in her cell, to call it a cell wasn't completely accurate. The room was large, adorned with Tholian silk and the best tapestries that money could buy. He had the best clothes a girl could ever hope for, most would think they were in heaven but Marah still felt as if she was in a cell. She was a prisoner, she wasn't allowed to leave the room. Every morning some would bring her breakfast, then dinner, then lunch and later in the evening a snack. She was treated like a princess, if she wanted anything all she needed to do was ask and it was provided. Everything except her freedom. From the day she had been abducted from Earth her freedom had been denied. At first she was captured and transported back to Axtis III. She had been brought back to her cabin to face Kavol's brother who had held her responsible for his brothers death. For a while she had been interrogated and threatened, this lasted for a couple months. Then she had been interrogated and beaten, several months of this. When the Naussican had tired of it she had been turned over to the Orion's to square a debt. Kavol's brother owed the syndicate and she had been the payment. All through the ordeal she held out the hope that Ben would rescue her, but he never did. After she was turned over to the Orion's she caught the eye of Turrel Mousette, one of the Orion slave traders. He was a Katarian, a relatively handsome man who was well built but had a bit of a temper. Everyday around noon he would enter Marah's room and make the same offer, become his consort and she would be allowed to leave the room. Everyday she declined and he would leave locking her in again. Everyday she had prayed for Ben to come to her rescue but now five years had passed and he hadn't come. Had he forgotten about her, had he found someone else and moved on. She thought that had made a connection in the time thy had spent together on Axtis III, but five years had passed. How could he have forgotten her, he seemed so genuine in his displays of affection towards her. He'd been so gentle and understanding when she had explained her past to him. She felt for him when he had told her about the loss of his parents and how it had devastated him for years later. She hoped they had a future together but Ben Soma had disappointed her, he never came to her rescue. The door opened and Turrel entered the room and walked to stand by her bed, he plucked a couple grapes from the fruit bowl on the table and one by one ate them as he visually inspected her. He further he looked down her form the bigger his smile grew, after several seconds he looked back to her face. "This is your last chance," He said. "give yourself to me and you can leave the confines of this room. I could make you a very happy woman Marah, and you'll make me a very happy man." Marah spat at his feet. "I'd rather die then let you touch me." She stated. Turrel's smile faded. "No my dear you'll live." He said. "But I'll assure you, you'll wish you accepted my offer." He removed a device from his pants pocket and pressed a button, the door opened again and two Orion guards entered the room. "You'll be placed with the general population." He stated with a grin. "I'm certain you'll fetch a high price at the next auction, or maybe I'll let you stew in a cage for a couple months. Let you rethink your options, you might reconsider when your hungry and cold." He turned to the guards. "You know what to do." He said and left the room. Marah watched him leave and then looked at the guards, both were very large men and both were smiling. They advanced on her and one removed some sort of device from his belt, he grabbed Marah and attached it to her neck. She immediately felt a burning sensation which lasted for a couple seconds then it began to itch. She raised her hand to remove the device after the guard released but the other removed some kind of wand and pressed a button, what happened next she couldn't begin to describe. She felt as if she was on fire and freezing to death at the same time, she doubled up on the bed in agony. The pain that came next was beyond anything she had ever felt before, once as a child she had broken her arm. If she could have traded that pain for what she was now feeling she would have done so happily. An eternity seemed to pass before the pain stopped when it did the guards we're laughing. "That's just a taste of what we can do." One of them stated. "Cooperate and you'll be spare to much of it, resist and you'll wish you've never been born." The other guard reached down and grabbed her, he lifted her up onto his shoulder. Marah wanted to fight back but was to exhausted to do anything but lay still and listen. The guards took her from her room and down the corridor, she noticed little except the flashing lights and the drum of background noise. Turrel came into view smiling his wicked smile. "I see you've received a small taste of what we can do, that was one of the lowest settings." He stated. "Oh.......If you think about trying to remove that restraint I strongly advise against it, any tampering with it will result in a complete overload of your nervous system resulting in your death." ~Ben where are you?
