Pez went on "And at least this way your mother won't worry about grandchildren." he added as Dahlia stepped back into the compartment. Jackson accepted the lengthy contract and scanned it. The fact that he did so made Pez smile in appreciation of the fact that his step-son was anything but a fool. "Pez, before I sign I want to ask Dahlia a question if I may?" Jackson "Certainly Thomas." Pez replied. Turning toward the lovely woman Tom stared at her for a moment before saying, "Dahlia, I meant what I said to Pez, I would like you to be with me. However, it has to be of your own free will. I've always cared for you - I think you've always known that. I will take the best care of you I can. But I want you as an equal not a servant - do you understand" he asked her. Dahlia took in a deep breath and all but radiated excitement at the prospect. Her lips parted slightly as she nibbled on her lower lip. Then she smiled. "Of course Thomas. I wouldn't have it any other way. Do you really think that I followed Pez all the way out here for nothing? I knew that there was a narrow chance of seeing you again. that was enough for me." "Well then it's settled," Pez replied, "looks like a willful conjugal contract to me. Assuming that Thomas stops staring at Dahlia long enough to actually sign..." (reply Jackson) NRPG: Assuming Jackson signs. Once his Step-son had signed, Pez smiled broadly revealing his sharp teeth in a genuine feeling of good will. "I'll send a copy of the contract to your foster father, Dahlia. I'm certain that he'll be pleased to see that you've found a suitable husband." Dahlia smiled at the Elder Ferengi, "Thank you Pez. I can't express to you how pleased I am right now." "Think nothing of it my girl." Pez replied, "Why don't you go and gather your things? Thomas here will take you back to his ship when he leaves." Dahlia's smile broadened even more and she could be heard giggling as she headed into the adjacent rooms of the luxury suite. Pez turned and looked back at his step-son. "An excellent decision, my son. It will be very profitable. Her foster father is old and is likely to die within the next decade. Ownership of his entire estate will then fall to you. Dahlia will inherit it all." He said, "And she's quite attractive as well. See to it that you produce several little human children, Thomas, while you have the chance." (reply Jackson) "Wedding contracts aside, let's discuss something else, if you don't mind?" (reply Jackson) "I came out here, because three of my cargo ships carrying Diagorian Wine has been quarantined by the starbase's captain. He claims that he have a Vole infestation on-board, but my captains assure me that is not the case at all. I've paid the usual fees and then some in an attempt to gain access to the captain so that we could discuss the problem and I could pay the bribe that he wants, but for some reason it seems that he doesn't want to or won't see me. I was wondering if you could be a good step-son and lend an old Ferengi a hand?" (reply Jackson) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Docked SB 989 Luxury Quarters Lt Tom Jackson and Pez and Co Day 2 1251) Tom had scanned the contract that his step-dad had given him. It was straight forward but he had learned to read it carefully. Tom said "Pez, before I sign I want to ask Dahlia a question if I may?" Jackson "Certainly Thomas." Pez replied. Turning toward the lovely woman Tom stared at her for a moment before saying, "Dahlia, I meant what I said to Pez, I would like you to be with me. However, it has to be of your own free will. "Well then it's settled," Pez replied, "looks like a willful conjugal contract to me. Assuming that Thomas stops staring at Dahlia long enough to actually sign..." Tom blushed but said 'Yes I will try" and signed the document. Needless to say Pez was happy and Dahlia was ecstatic. Pez turned and looked at his son for a moment. ~You know for a hew*mon, Tom is a good, honest man~ he mused. Pez complimented his son on an excellent choice in Dahlia. Tom smiled and agreed it was that. Pez went on to explain his real reason for coming out to SB 989. Tom was glad he had suspected an ulterior motive. His dad was after all a Ferengi! Pez explained that the SB Commander had quarantined some of his merchant vessels carrying wine. He wondered if Tom could get access to the SB CO and then he and Pez could discuss it. "Well Pez, assuming the CO doesn't want to see you, what would you want me to do for you?" he asked warily. (reply: Pez) (posted by Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene - ACMO Ensign Sam Lopez,Day 2- 1628) Sam entered the room and was greeted by his fellow doctor. “Dr Lopez, our victim is a Captain Joseph Taylor, a 48 year old human male, I would like for you to get your impression of the scene and then run a post on him” "I see this is something big. Well now, is there a coroner's team here yet?"Sam said. “Yes, as soon as we can, I have a coroner’s team standing by, when you are ready.” "I'm ready to get this underway now and maybe shed some light on this mystery."Sam said. “Also, since there is a presence of alcohol, I would like a Nero-map of the Basal Ganglia.” Kimiko stated “Any questions?” "No, I think I can handle it from here" Sam said. “Thank you” Kimiko replied (Reply by none) (Posted by shawn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene , CEO Lt. Matrix made his way over to Lieutenant Soma. "Lieutenant Soma, I've got two other engineers on their way...how can I help?" ask Matrix. (Reply Soma) Matrix looked around the area, "Well Mr. Soma, murder investigations are not my strong suit, but I'll gather what evidence there is and get a report off to you." replied Matrix (Reply Soma) "Just curious Lieutenant, why are we involved when we're docked at starbase? I'm short staff due to R&R and there is a fine complement of station crew available to assist in this investigation." asked Matrix as he pulled out his tricorder. Ben turned to Matrix and said. "I need you to scan the room for any hidden devices, anything out of the ordinary. The Captain has been murdered and we need what ever we can find to bring his killer to justice." "Well Mr. Soma, murder investigations are not my strong suit, but I'll gather what evidence there is and get a report off to you." replied Matrix. "Thank you Mr. Matix." Ben responed. "Just curious Lieutenant, why are we involved when we're docked at starbase? I'm short staff due to R&R and there is a fine complement of station crew available to assist in this investigation." asked Matrix as he pulled out his tricorder. "Station's security is stretched pretty thin with the tournament, Captain Salid has taken over the investigation per regulations. Anyone on the station could have done this so for the time being I prefer they not be a part of the investigation until I can determine their innocence." Ben said. There wasn't much to go on at this point so he assumed the engineering team wouldn't be long in giving the place a scan and pulling the security logs or confirming Dunphy's account with the door. "How long will you require?" Ben asked. Matrix smiled, "I suspect it will take about an hour to catalog and detail the scene." replied Matrix. "I'll leave you to it then." Ben replied and returned the smile. (reply Matrix iyw) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene , CEO Lt. Steven Matrix - 1654) "I'll leave you to it then." Ben replied and returned the smile. "Okay LT. I'll get started." replied Matrix. Matrix tapped up a predetermined routine in his PADD that started an automated routine in the tricorder still in his bag. Matrix took out the tricorder and placed it on a nearby table in the area. Two type two proximity scanners were then placed at opposite ends of the murder scene. As Matrix was setting up two of his engineering teams summoned earlier arrived. Senior Chief Miller arrived and surveyed the area, "Sir, senior chief reporting as ordered." replied Miller. "Ah Mister Miller, thank you for coming on such short notice. Please finish setting up these proximity scanners and run a full sensor sweep of the area. We're looking for anything unusual, hidden devices, etc. Anything and everything." said Matrix. The chief grimaced, "Sir, that might take several hours to scan and even longer to scrutinize the logs." replied the chief. Matrix nodded, "I know, but we have a high level murder scene here and we've been tasked with this assignment. I will acquire additional computational power to slog through the sensor logs. If you need more manpower, sensor or whatever, you have the authorization to do whatever it takes to complete this task." replied Matrix. "Aye sir. Understood. I'll get started." replied Chief Miller. =^= Matrix to Lieutenant Cohen. Peter...I need a full court press on this murder scene. Lets do this right and by the book...although I've not seen the book on investigating murder scenes. Nonetheless, the Captain is counting on us so lets see if we can't deliver. =^= "You got it Chief. I'll get over there ASAP and assist Chief Miller. I need to run down a repair issue here and I'll be right over. Nothing like being busy eh Chief? Cohen out." replied Lt. Cohen. Matrix smiled and turned to Chief Miller, "Chief. Lieutenant Cohen will be here shortly. I'll head over to engineering and start the processing routines on the main computer core. I'll signal you when I'm ready to receive telemetry and we can start processing the data. I'll see if one of the holodecks is available. Perhaps we can gather enough evidence to re-enact the scene." said Matrix. "Aye Sir. I think we'll need a few more proximity sensors. Could you beam...oh...six more over, mark threes?" asked Miller. "Certainly!" replied Matrix. (Reply none) (Posted by Steve) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Main Engineering , CEO Lt. Steven Matrix - 1701) Matrix arrived in engineering only to find that the repair crews had already taken the main computer core offline. The isolinear chip bank had already been removed and was in the early stages of being scanned and replaced. It would take hours to bet it back online even if everything was put back immediately. Matrix sighed, "Okay...is the secondary core available?" asked Matrix. The duty chief replied, "No sir, it too is offline...had I known sir I would have made arrangements to..." Matrix cut the duty chief off in mid sentence, " ...I know chief...its not your fault that there was a murder aboard the starbase. Nonetheless I need to secure some substantial computing power ASAP to process this scan data." replied Matrix. "Perhaps we can tap into the starbase computer core? They have three primary systems according to my data." replied the chief. "True, but the Rosenante is likely taking a good majority of their time and we're one of two star ships currently docked and undergoing repairs. I'll check with the yard master. In the mean time see what you can do about brining up the secondary core as soon as possible. This can't wait." said Matrix. "Aye sir." replied the duty chief. I may be a lot of things mister Soma, but I am not a murderer." "That is what I am here to determine." Ben said in response. Ardaa pursed her lips slightly at the remark, realizing that of course, he was correct. "Yes of course." She responded with a bit of a frown. "I know that, I suppose I've just never really considered being a suspect in a murder investigation." "Where were you between the hours of 1200 to 1530?" Ben asked. "I suppose you mean yesterday and not today?" She asked. "Well, as usual, at about 1200 hours I had lunch at RJs, which is usual for me. Then I returned to the office at 1300 hours, and continued with my work load. I met with a pair of Tanager merchant who had a complaint about some of our security protocols and then I finished up my departmental reports before going off shift." "Anything else you need to know?", she added. "Anything else you need to know?", she added. Ben considered how to proceed, she had given an account of her whereabouts for yesterday but he needed to know the same information for today. "In order to remove you as a suspect I need to know your whereabouts for the same time period today." Ben said neutrally. Ardaa held the same position he did and knew what was involved in an investigation. Events had to established and then confirmed, alibis need to be checked out for consistency. She knew these things could be uncomfortable, but he sympathized with her being on the other side of the investigation. "You know how this works and what I have to do." Ben added. "Give as much detail as you can, anything can be important. A minor detail could exonerate or condemn at this point." "Let's see at 1200 or so I was again at RJs for Lunch, which is again my usual schedule. I returned to my office a bit late around 1310, after stopping by my quarters to change my uniform tunic. I managed to spill some twice baked potato soup on it. Then I held a departmental status briefing at 1400 hours, I was in my office working on various dailies until a little while before you joined me Lieutenant. To be honest I didn't feel like returning to my quarters just yet, I still have several items of Joe's,... Captain Taylor's to pack up yet." She paused. "You're welcome to check the station's security logs as well as ask personnel and staff who were present." She added. "What else would you like to know?" (reply Soma) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989- Command Centre- FO Lt Kraal Day 2 - 1817) The tall Andorian stood looking out the portal in his office. He had handed the issue of investigating the murder of CAPT Taylor to a SF Starship Captain. The Andorran's blue skin deepens when he was worried about things and Kraal was worried. Kraal was concerned about what Captain Salid and crew would uncover. He strongly suspected that Taylor had plenty of enemies. He suspected those disgusting ferengi cretins personally. That was one thing Joe Taylor and Kraal shared - a strong dislike for Ferengi. So Far Captain Salid had not asked him for anything concerning the Taylor murder. He was frankly surprised the Security fols from the Rosenante had not contacted him as yet. His was the de facto SB Commander. He was way too young he thought for this responsibility. His dad has always tried to tell him that when he least expected it, life would bite him in his butt! Well dad was right - it had bitten him hard! On the bright said, he was gaining command experience and that might help him move upward one day. Kraal decided to walk about the base and see what was going on. At the least it would get him out of his office and maybe get him up to date on what was happening outside his office. "I will out on the Promenade if I am needed" Kraal informed the duty officer. The man simply nodded and made an entry in the status board. --------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB 989 Promenade LT Kraal FO - Day 2 1819) The Andorian man walked through the Promenade with his hands behind his back, Things appeared normal at first glance. His instincts were screaming that all was not well. Yet he had not heard from Base Security or from the Starship crew. Being in the dark bothered Kraal. Entered RJ's and got something quick to eat. He sat with his back to the wall so he could watch who entered and exited the facility. She added. "What else would you like to know?" "I shall do just that." Ben said. It was his duty to follow up on the leads produced in the interrogations and check out the alibis for validity. He would assign Sanok to do a little leg work and check out the details of Ardaa's account of recent events. He disliked the idea that a Starfleet officer was capable of doing this to another, but he had seen it in the past. He had to remain professional and detached, he couldn't allow his feelings to interfere with his investigation. There were times he envied Sanok's emotional detachment. "How did the Captain seem over the past few days. Was there anything that indicated he may be in trouble with someone?" Ben asked. (reply Ardaa) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989- Security Offices- CSEC Ardaa Mosul- Day 2 - 1820) "How did the Captain seem over the past few days. Was there anything that indicated he may be in trouble with someone?" Ben asked. Ardaa shook her head. "Not that I noticed, but he'd been avoiding me as you can imagine. Then there's the fact that it always seemed that the captain was in trouble with someone. He wasn't exactly well liked, Captain Taylor. He was...Overbearing, one of those command officers that ruled with an iron fist and an overblown sense of self-worth. I suppose it was his confidence that I fell for to begin with." She mused. "Most people would say that Joseph was a terrible man, Lieutenant. But he wasn't all that bad. He was just a man who was seriously unhappy with the way that Starfleet had treated him. He was always talking about resigning his commission, and visiting Risa." She paused and lifted her glass towards her mouth before she remembered that it was empty. She replaced the glass on the desk with a sigh. "He had a lot of people that didn't like him. Quol Nor, Braak, Members of the Orion Syndicates, Romulans. You name them and they probably hated him. He was the authority for the fleet out here, and he had damn little to work with. Considering how rough this sector could be, I think he did an admirable job, considering the way that the Admiralty tied his hands behind his back. I know that he paid a couple of visits to the Tailor in the promenade, Mister Yang. I always thought that was very unusual, since even when he was off-duty, Joseph never wore anything but his uniform." She shrugged. (reply Soma iyw) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989- Security Offices- CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma- 1822) Ben listened intently as Ardaa stated that it seemed Taylor was always introuble with someone. She described his way of running the station as being overbearing, he ruled with an iron fist and a sense of over blown self worth. All this combined had led to him being disliked by many on the station. She mentioned that it was his confidence that she had found appealing. She continued stating that he was an unhappy man who didn't like the way Command had treated him and his mentioning of resigning his commission and visiting Risa. She lifted her glass for a drink but realized it was empty and replaced it on the desk with a sigh. Then she added. "He had a lot of people that didn't like him. "Thank you Chief, that should suffice for now." Ben said. "If I have any further questions I'll contact you, if you think of anything else don't hesitate to call on me." He stood to leave but before turning he said. "I'd like to make use of the security offices here on the station. With your permission of course." (reply Ardaa) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - CMO's Office - CMO, Dr. Gena Harvey -Day 2- 1912) "I'm sorry you learned of the events this way, I assumed you knew." Ben replied in an even tone. Gena just shook her head as tears rolled down her face. "No...I.." she began, but never finished. Pulling up a chair to sit opposite the Doctor he continued. "I realize this is uncomfortable for you, I'll try to keep this as brief as possible." He assured her. "How did Captain Taylor seem the last time you saw him?" Ben asked and then added. "Was he distracted, did he seem uneasy or distant?" "He was distracted, stressed maybe. He said he was having trouble sleeping, so I proscribed him a sleep aid, to help him get some rest." she sighed as she wiped the tears away from her eyes. "But he wasn't distant, he kept saying how he was going to work everything out so that we could both retire to Risa and never have to work again. He said he'd made some investments recently and that they were going to pay off soon." (reply Soma) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - CMO's Office - CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma- 1913) "He was distracted, stressed maybe. "But he wasn't distant, he kept saying how he was going to work everything out so that we could both retire to Risa and never have to work again. He said he'd made some investments recently and that they were going to pay off soon." Ben wondered what those investments might have been and if they were related to his death, could Taylor have been involved in some illicit activities that someone could have killed him for. To be able to retire to Risa and not have to work again his investments must have been big and carried a great amount of risk to pay off to such a degree. If he could determine who was involved it might lead to something substantial. "Do you know what his investments were or who was handling them for him?" Ben inquired. He already assumed she didn't but had to ask for the sake of the investigation and being through. (reply Harvey) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - CMO's Office - CMO, Dr. Gena Harvey -Day 2- 1915) Do you know what his investments were or who was handling them for him?" Ben inquired. Gena shook her head as she answered, "No. He wouldn't say." She said, but I think it had something to do with a Ferengi or a Dopterian. I heard him mention something about a quote, four-lobed bast@*d unquote " Gena's face colored somewhat. "I'm sorry Lieutenant, I don't normally curse. I just thought that quoting it to you directly would be helpful. The choice of words could indicate the gender of the individual." (reply Soma) There was a slight pause as she considered something else. "You don't think that one of the Ferengi on the station killed him do you?" She asked. (reply Soma) "I know that he was discussing something with a Romulan starship Captain for passage. But I couldn't tell you whom. I also know that he said that we'd be able to leave the day after the tournament ended, because he'd have the last of his business handled and we'd be able to start our leave then. We were planning on using the time to find a nice place on the beach on Risa. If we found one we liked, we were going to resign while we were there." She stated. "I'm not complaining." Ben responded. He was content to listen to what ever details she wished to share no matter how she decided to express them. "You don't think that one of the Ferengi on the station killed him do you?" She asked after a pause. "I'm not ruling anyone out at this point." Ben replied. "Anyone on the station could have done this." "I know that he was discussing something with a Romulan starship Captain for passage. But I couldn't tell you whom. He considered what she was saying, he had considered a link to the tournament before. Now he would have to look in that direction a little harder to see what could be revealed from it. He would also have to look into the bases Ferengi population to see if there was anything useful there, Ferengi were always into something that could be used against others and he was certain that this time would be no different. "Thank you Doctor." Ben said. "If I think of anything further I will contact you later." He stood to leave and before turning to the door he added. "Again I apologise you had to learn of Captain Taylor's death this way." He stood to leave and before turning to the door he added. "Again I apologize you had to learn of Captain Taylor's death this way." "Thank you lieutenant. I appreciate your compassion. Please promise me that you'll do anything that you can to catch and punish whoever did this to Joseph." (reply Soma iyw) Once the Lieutenant had left the office, Gena forced herself to take a deep breath. "Computer seal my door and darken the window of my office." [Door sealed.] the computer intoned. "You have my word that I'll do everything I can to bring the Captain's killer to justice." He knew that was little comfort to her now but he had meant it, he would do what ever it took to get to the bottom of this and see the person or persons involved were punished for the murder of Captain Taylor. He almost added 'enjoy the rest of your evening' but refrained from doing so, she wouldn't enjoy the rest of the evening she would probably spend it in emotional turmoil and severe discomfort. He thought back to how he felt when he learned his parents would not be returning, he remembered the deep pain it caused him and the nightmares that resulted. Death was hard for most humans to accept, even harder when the cause wasn't natural. He left the CMO's office and headed back to the security offices to go over the interviews and see what he could piece together from them. He had some names and other details to check out in the mean time, it was going to be a busy night. (reply none) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Security Office - CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma- 2209) At the last moment before he left Eian added a forgotten detail to his profile suggesting that the Captain had known his attacker, Ben had assumed as much when he entered the scene and noted the lack of a struggle. Had the attacker been a stranger there would have been more evidence pointing to a greater struggle, there were no defensive wounds on Taylor which added to the fact his attacker was someone he was familiar with and wasn't expecting an attack from. Nodding Ben said, "Thank you Mr. O'Neill, you've done a good job on the profile. Now if you'll excuse me I have a few things that require my attention." Ben noticed Sanok had just entered the security office and he was interested to find out what he had learned. "Yes, Sir. Thank you, Sir." Eian said as he left. Once the ACEO had left Sanok came over to speak with him. "I have returned from scouting the station, so to speak," said Sanok. He looked at the door O'Neill had exited. "He is an enthusiastic, young officer, eager to please. However, does he not realize, that any Starfleet Academy cadet seeking Sec/Tac as their major, that took the criminal investigations course, as you and I did, were also trained in profiling as a standard part of the curriculum?" "I'm sure he is." Ben responded. "He has a security major and wants to transfer from engineering at some point. I assume he just wants to prove he can be useful." Ben picked up several padds and gave them a quick glance, skimming the contents. "How were your interviews with the base CSec and CMO? Do you want me to check their alibis?" Sanok asked. Ben passed him one of the padds, this one contained a transcript of the interviews. "The interviews didn't reveal anything linking either to the murder directly. The CMO mentioned that she and captain Taylor were planning to go to Risa, check with station ops to verify that. She also mentioned that Taylor had previous investments that were about to pay off, we need to find out what those were and what the pay off was to be." Ben said. "There may be a connection there." "Did you find anything that we might be able to use?" He asked. "Did you find anything that we might be able to use?" said Ben. "Nothing concrete," said Sanok. "On any base with a significant civilian population, there is a certain amount of illicit activity. However, it is clear there is more here than the norm. It would not surprise me if we learned Captain Taylor was corrupt, and killed because of that." (reply Soma iyw) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Security Office, CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma, 2213) "Nothing concrete," said Sanok. It would not surprise me if we learned Captain Taylor was corrupt, and killed because of that." Ben rubbed his temples in an attempt to alleviate some of the tension that was building there, hours had passed and so far they had uncovered little that furthered the investigation. "It's an angle we have to consider." Ben replied. "I've spent time on a starbase, a couple years actually. There is always illicit activity but most of it is harmless, and it is difficult to believe that the stations commander was involved in it." Ben glanced at his padd and considered the information it contained, there were a couple names there of people that didn't particularly like Captain Taylor. "Check the names on the list and see what you can come up with. There has to be a connection to Taylor somewhere, and we need to find it." Ben looked up at his friend. "Hopefully the Doctor can find something we can work with after she finishes her examination of Taylor's body" (reply Sanok iyw) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Security Office, Ensign sg Sanok, 2215) Ben said, "It's an angle we have to consider. "Perhaps..." Sanok's voice trailed off. "Check the names on the list and see what you can come up with," said Ben after studying a PADD for a few moments. "There has to be a connection to Taylor somewhere, and we need to find it." "If Captain Taylor was corrupt, it may be quite difficult to find any record of his activities," said Sanok. "He would have done an efficient job of hiding everything so there would not be a trail leading back to him." "Hopefully, the Doctor can find something we can work with after she finishes her examination of Taylor's body," said Ben. "Indeed." It was agreeable to Sanok to be working with Ben again, but he wished it could have been under better circumstances. Nevertheless, they were serving together again, and that was what was most important. Occasionally, the needs of the few, outweighed the needs of the many. (reply Soma iyw) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Personal Quarters - CMO, Ens Kimiko Ichijo - Day 2- 2239) Kimiko stood at the door, mentally rehearsing the report. The door opened slightly and the captain stood beyond the threshold. "Come in doctor." Ahmed invited. "I was just adding to my supplemental log." Salid ushered her in. Kimiko blinked a couple of times to adjest to the dim lighting and noticed an interesting wall hanging over what looked like a bronze dagger, she saw several books on a table that looked to be written in Farsi and her hands itched to see what was between the covers. She followed Salid to a lit corner where a small cluster of chairs stood. They which were at odds with the austere fixtures of a starship, but blended with the with their surrounds. "Sit wherever you'd like doctor." he offered, "Can I get you something particular from the Replicator?" "Thank you, whatever you are having is fine" Kimiko replied as she sat opposite of the well worn overstuffed chair that was obviously the captain’s favorite. She noticed that there was a book on the table beside the chair and somehow that calmed Kimiko. It was comforting to realize that the man that ran that the ship into the very teeth of fire had a side that could enjoy something as mundane as reading a book. Ahmed replicated a small tray of light snacks and a couple of fruit beverages before settling in a chair across from the Doctor. "So tell me doctor what did you find?" Kimiko leaned forward and handed Salid one of the padds that she had carried in. She sat back and with a few flicks of her fingers, the screen lit up and displayed a static image of Captain Joseph Taylor and basic information about the man and his career. It was sad to realize that a man who lived nearly half-a-century could be summed up in a few terse paragraphs. But ruminations would not find the being that took his life. “Ok, I will probably reiterate some information that you already familiar with, but I sure you’ll bear with me” Kimiko looked at Salid, (Reply Salid) “Ok, the decedent is Joseph William Taylor, currently a Starfleet captain, commander of Starbase 989” ~not really, but until Starfleet replaces him, Taylor is still in charge~ The doctor though wryly, she paused for a second . ~Corpse king, there is a really bad song in that, humm~ The doctor shook her head to banish the irreverent thought and continued. “The body was reviewed in loco, on 2413.12.16, at 1630. There was no appearance of any aid rendered, nor any overt signs of an attack or struggle. Upon viewing the body, I noticed blood pooling only under the source of injury and the mouth. Scans indicated the only blood present was at the two areas that I mentioned. There was no projected blood anywhere in the cabin, only passive flow from the body. There was also no splatter to indicate that the blood fell any notable distance.” The padd held several thumbnail images of the scene with the body intact and with body removed. “Outwardly the injury was fairly straightforward. A piecing weapon entered anterior 45 degrees lateral right the standing body, tracked into the third intercostal space, puncturing the lung, and curving to puncture the left atrium.” The image traced the pattern that the doctor described “One note” Kimiko looked up “With a weapon of this nature, there is always secondary injury to the body upon removal. Even if not visible to the human eye, the further injury can be viewed with even a rudimentary scan; however in this case, there is none.” Kimiko shrugged. “It is as if the weapon disappeared” “The weapon itself is at least 45 centimeters long, the diameter of the instrument would be about 15 millimeters at the widest point of entry.” A projected image of the blade appeared on the screen “The taper of the weapon is very sharp, reaching the full thickness within 30 millimeters” Kimiko lowered her padd and stated,“Of course, there was further damage to the body but the heart and lung were the only major organ that were involved, I have appended a full report of the post” "Because of the alcohol present, I had a neuro-scan and a full blood tox preformed, several depressants were found, alcohol and a Benzodiazepine called Adifar that was proscribed as sleeping aid, also present was a narcotic, Darvicon, which is a Schedule II drug, prescribed for chronic migraines, however scans provided no indication that such a drug would be needed.” (Reply Salid) “A schedule II drug is a more powerful drug that cannot be replicated in the public or cabin replicated because they can be habit forming and can lead to death if misused” Kimiko explained (Reply Salid) “Yes there was an order for the drug, but no orders for any progressive treatment that should precede this order within his medical chart” Kimiko replied “Hardly a unusual event within an established command structure; however, it could help paint a picture of the professional relationships of the senior staff, which may be important during the investigation.” Kimiko waited for a response before continuing . “Further scans show very little damage to liver, kidneys or intestines that would be present if there was any abuse of any of the drugs. Also there was only a minute depression of the nuro-chemical activity, so neither of the drugs had been used for any extended length of time; however that being said, it seems that, aside of his attack, Captain Tyler was under an inordinate amount of stress very recently. “Several points, of the scene and autopsy, stand out. First, the blood exiting the wound creates a pattern on his uniform that would show that equal pressure was applied to the area around the injury immediately after the wound was created. That and the fact that there was no defensive posturing or injuries as well as position of the body after falling argue that he was being held before and slightly after the attack” Kimiko looked up and stated. ”Second, there is other blood traces in the cabin. Bleeding, sir, is very messy. Several different forces act during the injury to propel the blood outwards. The pressure from the circulatory system, the kinetic force generated from the weapon, even gravity. But outside the ‘leaking’ of the body, no fluid was found anywhere. Not impossible, obliviously, but beyond the planning and conduct of any murder that I have read about.” “Which also brings me to my next point, there was absolutely no introduced material; fiber, genetic or even bacterial” Kimiko flicked her finger again and a culture spectrum appeared on the padd held by Salid. “Each living being has a unique culture of harmless bacteria that lives on them and can leave traces on anything that they come in contact with, say with a handshake or exchange of physical object. There was, of course, incidental material on his clothing and skin, but not anything close to definitive.” Kimiko ticked off a finger. “Lastly, the weapon is not an efficient one, except in this one very case, where every bit and piece was exactly in the right place. One centimeter off in practically any direction, would have meant the difference between a successful murder and a live subject and arrest. The use of said weapon demonstrates a level of planning, in my opinion that goes quite beyond a simple ‘you have annoyed me, so you must die,’ or the two for a credit hit men. There was a lot of effort to set this up so that he would see it coming and it would hurt- badly.” Kimiko leaned back and rested the pad in her lap. “Where there any questions?” (Reply Salid) (Posted by Jack) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Personal Quarters, CO Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 2- 2240) "Ok, I will probably reiterate some information that you already familiar with, but I sure you'll bear with me" Kimiko said as Ahmed poured them both a glass of pomegranate juice. "Okay Doctor, go right ahead." he said as he settled into his chair. He reached out and accepted the small PADD that she offered him as she began her report. "Ok, the decedent is Joseph William Taylor, currently a Starfleet captain, commander of Starbase 989. The body was reviewed in loco, on 2413.12.16, at 1630. "Was he self medicating then, some sort of replicated drug that he could create on his own?" "A schedule II drug is a more powerful drug that cannot be replicated in the public or cabin replicated because they can be habit forming and can lead to death if misused." Kimiko explained (Reply Salid) "Yes there was an order for the drug, but no orders for any progressive treatment that should precede this order within his medical chart" Kimiko replied "Hardly a unusual event within an established command structure; however, it could help paint a picture of the professional relationships of the senior staff, which may be important during the investigation." The captain nodded, "It could at that." Ahmed agreed, "It could indicate a relationship of a personal nature between someone on the Station's medical staff and the Captain. Please continue." Ahmed placed his own PADD on the table to the left of his chair, suddenly no longer feeling as if he wanted to have a snack. His eidetic memory would never forget the images that the doctor had shown him nor would he be able to forget the fact that Joseph Taylor, although older than he, was a friend, whose death he would never forget. "What about the time of death, have you been able to determine when he died?" Ahmed asked (reply Kimiko) "I see, that's pretty specific. And what about the weapon itself? Could it have been made of ice or some other exotic material like perhaps frozen carbon dioxide?" (reply Kimiko) "Hmm, well that makes me wonder if there was any sort of residual energy signature from perhaps a transporter beam that might have been used to retrieve the weapon and scatter it's atoms into space. (reply Kimiko) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Personal Quarters, CMO, Ens Kimiko Ichijo, Day 2- 2241) "Where there any questions?" Kimiko asked, knowing the she forgot something, her eyes scanned the bullet points on her pad ~Who- check, manner of death- check, oddities- blood (underlined), no weapon, no bios (underlined, starred)- check, check and check, I think I got everything.~ Ahmed placed his own PADD on the table to the left of his chair, and in a distracted tone asked. "What about the time of death, have you been able to determine when he died?" ~Crap~ Kimiko thought “between 2145 and 2215, based upon the warming of the body and the decay of specific cells.” "I see, that's pretty specific. And what about the weapon itself? Could it have been made of ice or some other exotic material like perhaps frozen carbon dioxide?" The Captain asked. “Interesting thought, but no, that kind of extreme temperature would definitely have left very distinct cellular damage” Kimiko replied. "Hmm, well that makes me wonder if there was any sort of residual energy signature from perhaps a transporter beam that might have been used to retrieve the weapon and scatter it's atoms into space. Is there any way to test for something like that?" “I’m not sure, I could look into it” Kimiko replied thoughtfully. "I know it's a long shot, but it's worth investigating." “but if they were able to do that, then why not disburse that Taylor?” The Doctor cocked her head “unless it was an example.” (Reply Salid) “Well I will sift though DNA files and see if anything else comes up and look into that transporter theory.” The doctor rose, headed for the door and turned to the Captian, still deep in thought. “do you believe that the murderer is still aboard.” (Reply Salid) Kimiko nodded and left the cabin. (Reply Salid) (Posted by Jack) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989- Security office- CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma - 2300) Ben had been reviewing the information they had aquired so far about the investigation into Taylor's murder, so far there wasn't much. He had interviewed the stations chief security officer and chief medical officer, evidence indicated Taylor had been intimately close with both women. Ardaa had been involved with him first and then he had moved on to the CMO and Ardaa was left behind. Jealousy could be a powerful motive but he didn't think it was the case, not this time anyway. Gena had said that Taylor was plaaning a trip with her to Risa, certain investments were about to pay off for him. He wasn't certain what they were but it was possible that the tournament had something to do with it, but he needed a little more to go on then just a hunch. It was possible that the stations first officer might be able to give him something that could be used to further the investigation. Tapping his comm badge he said. "Soma to Lieutenant Krawl. Can you meet me in the stations security office?" (reply Krawl) The first officer was Andorian, the last time he had encountered an Andorian in a murder investigation it hadn't gone so well. He hoped that this time would be different, at least he'd be dealing with a Starfleet officer. "Thank you Lieutenant." Ben said. (reply Krawl) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – CMO office - CMO, Ens Kimiko Ichijo - Day 2- 2302) Dr. Ichijo debated for a moment whether to com Lt Soma this late. She was not the only one that hated to be woken up in the middle of shift, but the first hours of a murder were crucial and she doubted that someone who was the security chief for a starship would waste time on something as plebeian as sleeping. Kimiko tapped her comm. “Doctor Ichijo to Lieutenant Soma.” (Reply Soma) My department has completed our investigation and I have forwarded the findings to your office. If you would like a briefing to clarify or elaborate any material, I will be able to clear some time in my schedule. (Reply Soma) “Certainly, that would be fine. Ichijo out.=^= He made a mental note of heading back to his office on the Rosenante as soon as he had finished with the stations FO, the doctors report would no doubt be laced with medical terminology that he wasn't familiar with. Doctor Ichijo would have to explain a few things so he could fully understand what was contained in the report. The information would be useful, it would contain an exact time of death as well as trauma caused by the attack or lack there of. I would also indicate whether or not the Captain had been drugged or if he had been fully lucid. This would be a step in the right direction, so far he hadn't made many of those and he found that disturbing. (reply any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – CMO office - CMO, Ens Kimiko Ichijo - Day 2- 2315) Kimiko sat in her chair, looking at her journal list, ~Currently all the round pegs are in their appropriate holes, of course that is subject to change without notice.~ The doctor thought and debated on whether she wanted more, a cup of tea or rest; the tea won out. There was no way that she could sleep now and to pretend otherwise would be a waste of time and something close to a lie. Her ceramic pen tapped lightly on the desktop, while her mind deconstructed the scene, trying to fit the pieces back together in some way to make sense. They was no weapon that could be carried into the cabin that could freeze a man in the fashion that Captain Taylor was frozen and could account for all of the other facts. A force field would hold him, but would not allow a solid weapon to pass though. ~what about the semi-permeable force fields in the shuttlecraft bay~ Kimiko thought ~they allow a craft to pass though but not fluid~ It was a simple thing to test for exposure to high energy constructs, such as force fields, transports, and phaser fire. The doctor pulled open the autopsy results and twirled the pen as she tapped out a series of commands. ~The energy transfer rate is… yep, 3.215.~ She tweaked the results for a few seconds to filter out the signatures of the sterilizing field and transporter beam. “There was the fingerprint- tagged tango-delta 401.3b1c” Kimiko stared at the innocuous rainbow hued line. “So where are we from” Kimiko asked the screen With a few taps of her fingers, Kimiko had the results ~A phased energy field emitter- Starfleet type III ~ “Isn’t that interesting?” Kimiko said to herself. “Only carried on starships and starbases.” Kimiko hummed to herself as she forwarded the results to Soma and Salid, her mind as ease now that she figured out the puzzle. The computer chirped in response, Kimiko rose from her desk and exited her office.
