He was concerned about Ensign Adams. Matrix knew the Ensign could handle things, but wanted to the Ensign to know someone had his back, even it it was from a distance. =^= Matrix to Ensign Adams. Chris...I've got your telemetry up in engineering and will be with you if you need anything. =^= (Reply Adams) =^= I can upload historical information, metallurgic analysis, anything you need. Just give a shout. =^= (Reply Adams) (Posted by Steve) ======================================================================================================================== (Dyson Sphere - Surface - Ensign Christopher Adams - 1521) Ensign Christopher Adams started walking towards the source of the gravitation beam with the rest of the away team when a chirp came over the comm system. His CO, Lieutenant Matrix, was attempting to hail him. He touched a button on the back of his forearm to open a private channel to the Paladin. =^=Matrix to Ensign Adams,=^= came Matrix's voice into his helmet. =^=Chris...I've got your telemetry up in engineering and will be with you if you need anything.=^= "Acknowledged, sir," responded Adams. =^=I can upload historical information, metallurgic analysis, anything you need. Just give a shout.=^= "Thanks. It's good to know I'm not alone out here. Walking along this giant metal landscape with just the sound of your breathing can be pretty intimidating. We are heading towards the gravitation beam now. I will report back when I get there. Adams out." (reply Matrix) (Dyson Sphere - Surface - Ensign Christopher Adams - 1532) After walking for ten minutes Ensign Adams reached the source of the gravitational beam along with the rest of the away team. Adams walked around the device several times with tricorder in hand taking scans. "Adams to Matrix," stated Adams opening a comm channel to the engineering station on the Paladin. "We've reached the source and we are starting to investigate. I will let you know if we run into trouble." (reply Matrix) =/=This gravitational beam lead us here, it won't let go of the Goddard, and we need to find a way inside the sphere,=\= announced Commander Calvin Capps over the inner-suit comm system. =/=We need to find a way to deactivate this beam to free the Goddard. We will then plot a safe distance away, and we will need another plan on how to investigate. Mr. Adams do you have any ideas on how we could disable this.=\= "Nothing from the outside looks obvious," reported Adams. "There's a plasma exhaust vent over here on the side that we could possible use to access in the inside. Detron, can you help me remove this panel?" The Klingon security officer pried the panel off allowing Adams to start scanning the inside. After poking around a bit Ensign Adams discovered a latch system. Reaching his large gloved hands into the panel, he depressed the latch and noticed as a panel on the right side of the device popped open. A few more scans and Ensign Adams had a plan of action. "Okay. It looks like we are going to have to do this in two phases. Sir, I need you at this open panel to cut the power leads here and here," explained Adams pointing at two tiny cylinders on a small circuit board. "Ensign Trei and myself will be working on backing up the exhaust port. That will hopefully cause an overload and fry the system." (reply Trei, Capps, any, iyw) (Dyson Sphere - Surface - Ensign Christopher Adams - 1547) It appeared that Commander Capps had finished cutting the power leads and it was now up to Ensigns Adams and Trei to finish the second phase of taking the gravitational beam out of commission. Suddenly, Adams could feel vibrations through his magnetic boots and noticed the panel he was working on was starting to shake. =/=Lt Rath what is going on!=\= came Commander Capps's voice over the inner-suit comm system. Adams came around the device to see the Goddard starting to slowly sink into the surface of the sphere. He stood there in awe not sure what to do next. =/=Beam us aboard!=\= yelled the commander to the navigator still on board the shuttlecraft. "Adams to Matrix," the young engineer stated after, clicking the button on the back of his forearm and isolating his voice so that all the comm traffic didn't get it he way of the rescue attempt from the Goddard. "We are in trouble. The Goddard is being pulled into the sphere and Capps is ordering us to beam back to the shuttle. Be advised that we may lose contact." (reply Matrix) "Understood and thanks. He said quietly. "I will seek to resume my chosen duties in Fighter Command at the closest possible convenience." "That, of course, is your right," Eva replied evenly, "And once our current situation is over, I would even support such a move." Menelian crossed his arms behind him, his face a tight scowl. "Why is this necessary, where is our curr-" he paused and chose a new word, "Former, Security Chief?" "Lt. Kerge was severally injured in the line of duty," Eva explained. "Dr. Whetari say he will be unable to return to duty for at least six months. Given our current situation in unexplored space as well as in the middle of a war, I need an experienced officer heading the department. You just happen to be the most experienced Tactical officer currently on board. Ensign Trei and K'ran, while good officers, lack the experience to efficiently run the department at this time." "Anything special I should know, orders or the situation, or will my Assistant Chief's be able to fill me in fully?" Menelian asked next. "I have compiled the current departmental status reports, including the details around Lt. Kerge's injuries, on this PADD," She said, pushing a PADD forward. Ensign Trei is currently on Away Team duty with Command Capps. Ensign K'ran is heading the gamma shift security teams, and is currently off duty." The new Security Chief considered that, then nodded. "Very well, one last question. Who informs my XO?" "Lt. Rath?" Eva asked to verify just who the Romulan was referring to. "I will inform her of your temporary reassignment and her temporary promotion to FSCO. That is unless you wish to do so yourself." (Reply Menelian, any) (Posted by Wes the way behind on replies) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin - Ready Room - Lt(jg)Menelian - 1529) "Very well, one last question. Who informs my XO?" "Lt. Rath?" Eva asked to verify just who the Romulan was referring to. "I will inform her of your temporary reassignment and her temporary promotion to FSCO. That is unless you wish to do so yourself." "I will, thank you Captain. Is there anything else?" (reply: CO) NRPG: With room for more RPG: Menelian departed from the Ready Room in a mood something less then pleased. He paused once the door had closed and looked at the bridge, hard, for several moments. He hadn't had to stand a watch on the bridge in a very long time, no doubt he'd have to re-qualify in several things, if they were still following all Starfleet rules. Not that it would be a problem. He knew his job, and he played with targeting sensors all day long in his ship. He turned and walked into a turbolift, before barking. "Personal quarters." The turbolift hummed quietly, leaving the Romulan to his thoughts... none of which were bright and happy. Once the doors did open, however, he quickly made his way to his quarters, where he immediately stripped off his uniform before stepping up to the replicator. "Computer, replicate a uniform using my dimensions with appropriate rank insignia for a Security Officer." The computer beeped, and then a black and grey uniform with stripes of yellow appeared. Menelian sighed as he put it on. It had been quite a long time indeed. He pulled the side-arm holster and type 2 phaser off his old uniform and put it on. It wasn't standard issue for a Security Officer, it was a combat-holster made for Marines and Fighter pilots so their side-arm wouldn't be on their waist and in their way. But it fit, and for now it would do. He'd go more 'traditional' at a later time. NRPG: Basically, imagine a detective in any movie. He's wearing an under-the-arm holster with a phaser in it. I've posted before that Pilots had them so their weapons would be out of their way, flight suits are tight. RPG: Menelian took a deep breath, and then stepped back out and into the corridor. His quarters were in Fighter Country, a couple passing pilots gave him a side-ways look as they passed. That... was almost depressing. He stepped back into a turbolift and barked, "Security Center." (USS Paladin - TAC/SC's Office - Lt(jg)Menelian - 1548) "Gods Above." Menelian breathed as the door to his new office closed behind him. The office was... Klingon. It fit its prior master to a tee. Romulans and Klingons most certainly did NOT agree when it came to decor. This office positively horrified Menelian. He quickly walked up to the replicator and said, "Two large boxes, suitable for personal affects." One box was replicated quickly, followed by a second after Menelian had pulled the first one out. And, with a vengeance, he started ripping through the room, pulling personal effects off shelves and nooks and crannies and tossing them into the box for Kerge to claim later. It took a few minutes, but eventually every outward sign of the former Inhabitant had been cleaned, and the few PADDS on the desk stacked for later reading. He sat down behind the desk and quickly began going through drawers, pulling out PADDS and anything else that might need sorting. One of the last drawers he opened had a bottle in it. Menelian, with a frown, pulled it out and gave it a good look. "Blood wine," he eventually said, his lips curled in disgust. He could think of few things he disliked more, except maybe Human Swedish Meatballs and Klingon serpent worms. He let the bottle slide into one of the boxes as well; he had absolutely no interest in it. The Romulan folded his hands together and looked around. The office was now Spartan, as he liked it. There were two large boxes of personal effects to be carried off, and he was in a position he hated. Things were as good as they were going to get, for the nonce. Menelian tapped his badge, "Chief of Security to Assistant Security Chiefs, report to the Chief's Office on the double!" (reply: any in Security, as desired) Menelian, his back straight and his hands folded, watched the chronometer to see how long it would take his under-officers to arrive. It was a short cylinder device that was bolted to a rotational coupling that could move in any direction giving it a fair range of mobility. Calvin thought that the entire outer sphere had these placed in certain areas to make the coverage one hundred percent around the sphere. "This gravitational beam lead us here, it won't let go of the Goddard, and we need to find a way inside of the sphere." Calvin pondered about the situation as the team scanned the surrounding area, and the beam. The scans from the Goddard showed no signs of an entry to the inside of the ship. The gravitational beam was even more a disappointment then the scans were. It dragged the away team into a false lead. And the beam was now locked onto the Goddard so they could not investigate other areas of the sphere. It was clear what to do next. "We need to find a way to deactivate this beam to free the Goddard. We will then plot a safe distance away, and we will need another plan on how to investigate. Mr. Adams do you have any ideas on how we could disable this." (reply Adams, and Trei, Wier, Jhar, also leaving room here for reply) (Dyson Sphere - Surface - Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps - 1545) Calvin finished his step before the others to attempt the 2nd unlocking of the beam. Ensign Adams and Ensign Trei were both working on the next phase. As they were doing so Calvin looked in the direction of the Goddard. The shuttle was sitting in the same place as it did when the away team had gotten out of it. But of course it was, why would it not be? A gruesome feeling hit deep into Calvin's gut suddenly. Something was about to go wrong. He could feel it. (reply team) The scene around him seemed to slow down as his concerned raised. He turned his head to check up on the rest of the team, but they were continuing to work on the beam. A tiny, but distinct movement rumbled underneath the First Officer's feet. His head pivoted toward the shuttle again, and watched the Goddard move underneath the sphere surface. (reply team) Calvin immediately spoke through the EVA comm system so everyone could hear him. =^=Lt Rath what is going on!=^= Calvin yelled. He was sure the rest of the team had now looked up. (Reply Lt Rath, Team) =^=Beam us aboard!=^= Calvin did not want to be left behind on the surface as the Goddard entered the sphere. Detron had some ideas of dealing with the beam, but they involved bashing. Adams will be the better choice in this matter. The beam was not letting up any time soom. (Reply All) (Posted by Edward) ======================================================================================================================== (Dyson Sphere - Surface - ACTO Ensign(SG) Detron Trei - 15.33) Detron understood Adams's idea and proceeded over to the exaust vent. (Reply Adams) (Posted by Edward) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin, Bridge, CO Captain Eva Straton, 1540) Eva stepped out of her Ready Room and back onto the Bridge. She scanned the Bridge quickly as she stepped down to the command deck. "Report," She said, as she watched Lt. O'Connor move from the command chair and back to the Operations station. She sat down in her chair and waited for the departments to report in. (Reply O'Connor, Any on Bridge) (Posted by Wes) ======================================================================================================================== (Dyson Sphere - Surface - ACTO Ensign(SG) Detron Trei - 15.45) Detron worked with Adams on disabling the beam. Adams had a better handle on the logistics than Detron had on the situation. Detron was used to mostly act and react. He didn't have alot of experience with technical problems. Detron unscrewed the panel and let Adams go at it. Detron looked at the shuttle and saw it move slightly. He felt some shifting underneath. Detron then saw the shuttle Goddard being pulled inside the sphere. He heard Capps call for beam back to the Paladin in an urgent voice. (Reply All) (Posted by Edward) ======================================================================================================================== (Shuttle craft Goddard, Pilot seat, FSXO 1st Lt. Stephiea Rath, 1546) Rath was still sitting in the pilot seat of the Goddard keeping tabs on the rest of the away team with the shuttles sensors. Her eyes scanned her console making sure the sensor feed to the Paladin remained active, and keeping the Goddard's engines on standby in case they were needed in an instant. ~I hope they turn that damn beam off soon. I hate being a sitting duck.~ She thought to herself, her hands darting back and forth across her board. Suddenly the Goddard shuddered and alarms sounded through out the cockpit. "What the hell?" Steph yelled, as she turned her attention back to the sensors. =^=Lt Rath what is going on!=^ Came Commander Capps voice over the cockpit speakers. Steph stabbed her console sharply with a finger opening the comm channel. "I'm not sure," She replied, "The surface of the Sphere no longer registers on sensors, but I can still *SEE* the surface of the Sphere." She stood a little to get a better look out the window. "Yep, still looks like the Sphere is there and the Goddard is sinking right into it!" =^=Beam us aboard!=^= ~Sure, why should I die alone!~ She thought quickly. "Acknowledged," She answered working her console to activate the shuttles transporter and beam the rest of the Away Team back on board. She then noticed that a new set of what she could only describe as tractor beams had locked onto the Goddard from below and was directing it's decent into the surface of the Sphere. ~Oh, hell.~ She thought as she stabbed at her console once more. "Goddard to Paladin," She said hastily. "I think someone found the door bell. We are sinking into the surface of the Sphere and I have just noticed a new set of graviton beams locking on to the shuttle from within the surface of the Sphere. Transmitting our sensor data now. We may lose touch. Standby." (Reply Paladin) She could hear the sound of the transporter effect behind her as the rest of the Away Team materialized onboard just as the surface of the Sphere passed over the shuttle windows and the Goddard was enveloped into the Sphere. The ride was amazingly smooth considering, to Steph it looked like they were passing through solid metal, but the shuttle only shook mildly. After what seemed to Steph like hours but was actually only a matter of seconds, the Goddard emerged from out of the Sphere and sensor came back on line. They were now inside the Sphere. The graviton beams placed the Goddard several thousands kilometer away from the inner surface of the Sphere and then disengaged. Steph let out the breath she hadn't realized she had been holding. "We're in!" She said to no one in particular turning her attention back to her console and activating the shuttles thrusters into station keeping. "Wow," She whispered as she looked at the data coming in on the navigational computer. The interior of the Sphere stretched out around them. In the far distance, about half the distance between the Sphere and the local star was another half sphere that appeared to be some type of massive energy collector as well as providing a day\night cycle for anyone living on the interior of the Sphere. "Good work, whoever it was," Steph said, trying to shake the almost overwhelming sense of awe she was feeling. "I am now picking up A LOT of plant and animal life signs-" She paused as she looked over the sensor data a few more seconds. "But not anything that looks like intelligent life. Ensign Jhar?" She asked hoping the science officer could confirm, or deny, Steph's statement. (Reply Jhar) "Engines are at full power and we are free to navigate Commander," Steph said next, looking at the FO briefly. "Shall we take a look around the neighborhood?" "But not anything that looks like intelligent life. Ensign Jhar?" “From what I can see, I’m not seeing any biological evidence of intelligent life, though some of the surface scans are showing indications that structures may exist, though they may have been abandoned long ago.” Cerinne answered, excited by all the new data that she was receiving. “There are a number of climates in the sphere – all M-Class – but what we would think of as Artic, Temperate, Tropical, Desert, Rainforest…they are all here. I am also receiving scans that indicate large bodies of water and marine life within said water.” She continued, wondering with a smile if, in the grand tradition of some of the more arrogant European explorers in Earth history, she should name the large lake now being analyzed on her viewscreen as ‘Lake Jhar.’ ~Eh. I think that I’m the first person to have seen it - I think that is all that matters in this game,~ she thought, bringing up other scans and marveling at the diversity of flora and fauna. "Engines are at full power and we are free to navigate Commander," Rath added, pausing to look over at Commander Capps. "Shall we take a look around the neighborhood?" Not sure what caused it to activate, but do you think we could repeat the process to get ourselves back out again?" (Reply Adams) Steph turned and looked back at her console and frowned. Trapped on the inside, cut off from all communication with the Paladin, it only seemed logical that their first set of objectives would be to get out. The Goddard set down next to another communication array on the interior of the sphere. Working with the other members of the away team, they figured out what activated the portal which allowed them to pass through the Dyson Sphere. It turned out that communications at a certain frequency were picked up by the communication array and translated into a request to get pulled through. ~It must have been my communication with Lieutenant Matrix that did it,~ thought Ensign Adams. After recreating the set of circumstances that allowed them to enter, the away team was able to pass back to the exterior. Once back on the Paladin, Ensign Adams worked with Commander Sarouk to narrow down the set of frequencies that activated the portal. They were reading the Paladin to make the plunge and go through the portal, but now, he stood outside of Lieutenant Matrix's office in engineering. Adams reached up and touched the door chime next to the chief engineer's office door. (reply Matrix) The doors swung open with a slight swoosh and Adams approach Lieutenant Matrix. "Reporting as ordered." He thought he saw a perplexed look on the chief engineer's face. "Don't you remember? Yesterday? You said to report at 1600 if duty permitted. You said it was a 'sort of check in'. Well, I was kind of 'off ship' around 1600," Adams stated with a smile. "Besides, I won't have to work Gamma shift anymore," said Adams with a smile trying to bring a little bit of humor to the conversation. "I can actually be awake with most of the crew." "Shift work is part of the job Ensign," explained Lieutenant Matrix. "Space has no sunrise." The smile slid off the young ensign's face. "I…I…," he stammered trying to figure out how he was going to recover from his CO's blunt answer. "I mean…of course, sir…and I appreciate the opportunity to lead up a team even if it starts at 0100." Matrix stood up, "Ensign you've done great work here in engineering and I'd prefer if you stayed with this team, but if you're mind is made up and Commander Sarouk finds your transfer logical I'll inform the CO and authorize your transfer." "Thank you, sir, but I really believe this is the direction for me, getting out from beneath hatch or conduit. I just feel I could better serve the ship at Ops. We need to find a way back home and I think I can help most at that position." "Ensign, sleep on it. If you should change your mind...we'll be right where you left off." said Matrix as he sat back in his chair. "Yes, sir. Thank you, sir," responded Adams. "I will." With a turn, Adams walked through Matrix's office door and into the cavernous main camber of the main engineering deck. Report to main engineering tomorrow at 0700. Matrix out. =^= (Reply Rathyn, IYW) Peter Cohen was in his quarters when the message from the CEO came over his comm badge. ~I'd better see what his is all about.~ said Cohen to himself. =^= Chief, Peter here. What's going on Steve? =^= Matrix tapped his comm badge, "Peter, Ensign Adams is transferring out of engineering. I wanted to let you and Rathyn know of the personnel changes before you heard it elsewhere." =^= Aye sir. Mr. Adams will be missed in Engineering. Thank you sir I'll see you at 0700. =^= Matrix eased back into his chair, "Very good Peter, Matrix out." The Away Team had acidently activated the portal while trying to deactivate the graviton beam resulting in the Goddard being pulled inside the Sphere. After several hours the Away Team had managed to figure out the workings of the phase portal system and exit the Sphere again. With the help of a science and engineering team, Ensign Adams and Commander Sarouk had figured out the working of the phaser portal system and it had been deemed safe for the Paladin herself to enter the interior of the Sphere, several shuttles had already made multiple entries and exits from the Sphere during the testing of the portal system. She nodded as she leaned back in her chair as the Sphere star shone brightly on the main view screen, the smaller half sphere obscured by the brightness of the star. ~We're in!~ She thought triumphantly. ~Now we can get to exploring this wonder.~ "Report," She said, looking around the Bridge. Detron was eager to explore the inside of the Dyson Sphere. His experience with the Dyson Sphere was more of a forced guest. He waited for the rest to report. "Report!" He shouted, looking around at the various stations and view screens. "Grand Protector, the Destroyers have returned! They have found us after all this time and returned to finish what they started ages ago!" Captain Rwtndl shouted in a panic waving one six digit hand at one of the view screens. Xynthl frowned, not use to seeing Rwtndl so shaken, and moved forward to get a better look at the screen. The color drained immediately from his face and he found himself whispering a prayer to the Goddess Znthlly. ~Sweet Goddess protect us! The Destroyers!~ On the screen before him a strange alien ship was displayed INSIDE the holy Sphere that had sheltered the Brugthy people for the past three centuries. He couldn't believe his eyes and just stared at the screen for several minutes. Their home world had been destroyed ages ago by demons from the deep darkness of space. Demons who had crushed the once vibrant and flourishing civilization of the Brugthy. Only a few colony ships had managed to escape the destruction of the their home world and fled into the depths of space. The Brugthy had wandered for generations before finding the Holy Sphere of Znthlly. It had taken their scientists and engineers over 40 years to learn how to pass through to the interior of the Sphere. Their scientists and engineers had been studying the Holy Sphere for over two centuries now and still only understood a small fraction of how it worked. They had named the sphere after the Goddess of life Znthlly, as surely their finding such a blessing could have only come from the gods. Only two generations had passed since their finding the Holy Sphere, and the Brugthy people had prayed that the Destroyers would never find them and that the Holy Sphere would keep them safe. But it hadn't, the Destroyers had returned and now they had entered the Holy Sphere. "Have they detected us?"Xynthl asked suddenly snapping himself out of the spell he had been under. "Not yet Grand Protector," A young technician answered in a frightened voice. "They are just sitting on the other side of the star maybe the Holy Sphere is shielding us from their scrying devices." "Let us pray that is so," Xynthl said, his eyes never leaving the screen. "Warn the other enclaves. We must go into hiding. Deep within the Holy Sphere and pray the Destroyers scrying devices are unable to penetrate. We must be patient, with the blessing of the gods they will not find us and leave never to return." He turned to Captain Rwtndl. "GO! Warn the Enclaves! We must hurry before they find us! The Holy Sphere will provide for our needs and shield us from the Destroyers, but we must make haste!" Xynthl spun as his orders were carried out and the word of alarm was quietly sent to the other enclaves within the Holy Sphere. The Brugthy would go deep into the Holy Sphere and wait for the Destroyers to give up and leave. ~Assuming they don't destroy the Holy Sphere around us.~ Xynthl thought as he hurried to gather his weapons and what little personal items he would need. "Alright," She said, looking up. "Lets get the away teams under way. Commence beaming teams down to the surface of the sphere and launch shuttles to take a closer look at that half sphere. We are probably going to be here a little while too. Lets get a RnR rotation schedule established. Once an area has been secured, we can let some of the crew get some down time. Also lets see about restocking our energy and biomass stores. Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm looking forward to exploring this wonder of engineering. Lets get things rolling shall we."
