The story was impressive, and the news wasn't something he had wanted to hear. Robert folded his hands together. "Geneva can see to your repair needs, Captain. If the repairs prove to extensive for her time constraints, we are setting up a secret mobile shipyard." he said finally, as he mulled over the information given to him about the Romulans. It didn't bode well, he didn't want a fight on two fronts, he could barely hold his own against the massive resources of the Federation. "Continue." "Finally Admiral, the situation with Admiral Doenitz, we've got a SFI Agent on the ship that say's he's loyal to the 52nd and you but I don't know him, do you?" Robert shook his head slightly, "Personally, no, but I know of him. Always safe to keep an open eye, however, but I wouldn't have assigned him to you if I thought him an imminent danger." Remae handed over the latest status and rosters to the Admiral. "He also tells me that the bulk of SFI is on their side. if there is anything you can tell me about we are getting ourselves into, this would be a good time to share it, Admiral. Especially if you are putting the lives on the Spectre on the line for your. assumptions." Robert turned his gaze fully onto the Captain, the challenge in those words had been unmistakable. "He is right," LoDona finally said in a firm voice. "Doenitz has a good portion of Starfleet on his side. If our little party gets into the public, he will probably have Federation support as well, at least until his crimes make it into the public." LoDona looked off into the window for a moment, "But, better then half of the deep-space fleets haven't called one way or the other. I think, we might have help, in the future." He took a breath, then opened a sealed drawer in his desk and pulled out some PADDS, with the same information on them he had given the rest of the CO's. "This is records, dates, names, ships and other such information as proof for my... Assumptions." He passed them over. Contained within were the ships that had been lost for the Admirals secret forays, information about the secret weapons projects, and procural of vessels and ships into his own personal control. All the personnel records of people shifted into high-level positions. Enough information to damn him, but not enough to get him removed without first beating back the people he already had in place. Not without a full-scale civil war, anyway, which is what he really did want to avoid. "I think, Captain, that we are doing the right thing. I trust you will be able to make up your own mind, however." (reply: Ktell) "The Spectre will be in dock for 4-6 weeks Admiral, with her refit, anything you need from me in the meantime, just ask.", "Stick with your ship, and get your crew ready for extended operations," Robert said as he came to his feet. He pulled out one more PADD with orders, "These will hold until your refit is done, something a bit easier on your crew and it should provide you with a chance to shake down your ship after the refit." (reply: Ktell, any) (posted by Trout) USS Spectre, Counseling Office, Kahila Lono, 8:50) Kahila glanced through the computer display of Caro's history lesson, which gave an overview of the various races comprising the Federation. She was pleased with the girl's progress; she'd already learned basic computer skills, and quite a lot of standard language- as there were so many words and concepts which did not translate to her native language. "You know what I think," Caro said, looking up. "I think there must be a race somewhere that left our colony on that planet, long ago. It would explain some of our myths. But so far, I've seen none of them that look just like us. Do you know of any, Kahila?" Kahila shook her head. "None with the downy body fur, just like yours, or the dark blue skin. But your people could have been left there by yet another race. The zone where your homeplanet was found has not been extensively explored." "There was a lot of discussion when the first alien arrived - the Romulan woman, and some people thought she was one of the demons who haunted our ancestors. Especially so, as she was so wild and strange. Some of our wisest leaders tried taking apart her belongings to learn form them. But they just made a mess of everything." Caro laughed. "But I'm glad you found a place to leave the Romulan, Kahila. She was nothing but trouble for us." "She needed more help than I could give," Kahila said. "The Sickbay at the Starbase includes a small psychiatric facility. Eventually, she probably will be reunited with her people; and they have little patience with any sort of frailty. Well, I'll leave you to your work now; I need to go to the Bridge." As Kahila left the counseling office, where Caro usually persued her studies, and made her way to the Turbolift, she thought with satisfaction of how well her plans for Caro were working, and felt grateful for Captain Remae's support for the situation. Though she'd undertaken the guardianship somewhat impulsively, she knew it fit in well with her own career and lifestyle. Kahila had long ago realized that she had no interest in nurturing small children, and that motherhood was not something she desired. But nurturing of the intellect and personality, that suited her very well. And since there were only ten years difference in their ages, she was more of a sister to Caro than substitute mother. Though she was aware that Caro might be put in danger, just be being aboard the Spectre, Kahila placed her trust in the Captain and officers, to handle any possible dangers. When Kahila arrived at the Bridge, she sat at her station and called up the departmental reports, cross-referencing the repairs accomplished, with the earlier orders for same. reply none posted by Josephine Goodman (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 09.00) Remae was in the command seat, and all around him the senior officers had gathered, putting their 6 weeks shore leave behind them and preparing for the task ahead. The Spectre had been rebuilt around them, a new core powering the heart of the overhaul. She had been refitted with new sensors, new science and research labs, better defences and a more advanced astrometrics lab. The CO was planning to go down to Astrometrics to see what the Engineers had come up with but he was out of time, Admiral LoDona had ordered their departure as soon as their refit was complete and Remae had sealed orders, that would remain sealed under ordered to open them. In them meantime, they were going to take a course that would take them out in the general direction of the Gamma Quadrant, where Geneva would end up in a few months. Their immediate role was to investigate some unusual readings about halfway between where the Geneva was now and where it would be deployed in the Gamma Quadrant. "All hands, prepare for departure.", ordered Remae as clearance came in from Geneva. Slowly, she eased away from her moorings and soon cleared the Starbase. "Engage the cloak and lay in a heading to the Subspace River, full impulse." The Spectre shimmered as the phase cloak was engaged and she disappeared from visual and any scanners that were watching her, the only sign of the ship was as she entered the river. (Reply from ALL) (Posted by Anthony Keen) <> (USS Spectre, Science Lab 1, AMB, Admiral Sh'Rok - 10.00) Sh'Rok had been on the Spectre for days now, after joining the ship at Geneva. His long shuttle ride from Vulcan had seen him arrive in time to catch the Spectre before she headed for the border of the Alpha and Gamma Quadrants. He was walking into one of the Science Labs, he planned to take time to do some investigation into any computer records of this region of space. although it was unexplored, he suspected there would be accounts about species and other races in this area of space. "Ensign, I could use your help.", he said, grabbing one of the Science Officers as they walked past the frail looking Vulcan. "I need access to the cultural and scientific databases, can you direct me to a terminal?", he said, shifting his weight onto his white cane he carried everywhere. (Reply from anyone in the lab) (Posted by Anthony Keen) <> (Uss Spectre, Science Lab 1 - Ensign Horacio Tyrell - 10:00) Horacio was glad to be back in his lab, all this weeks spend in sickbay then in reeducation had driven him away for his research work for too long now. His right arm was still hurting but only when he was performing certain movement, the Xenolithe's claws had been deep in the flesh, pulling out several muscles and tendons. When the Xenolithe had attacked him he had thought that his last hour had arrived, he had the fear of his life there. Horacio was moaning on himself, if he had taken more precautions in examining the samples from the Nageri ship, he wouldn't have been infected and exiled to the base camp on the planet and he wouldn't have been injured. It had been a lesson for him, now before performing an examination on an alien substance, he would check and double check the safety measures. He was walking in direction of his console when he noticed that an Admiral was stepping inside the lab. ~ Great, another Vulcan into the bargain but for once it isn't a woman ~ moaned he, Horacio was a little misogyny and he hadn't much affinities with Vulcans, he was finding them so pedantic and that they were always acting like they were the guardian of the universal intelligence. It seems that it wasn't his lucky day because the Admiral grabbed Horacio as he was walking past him "Ensign, I could use your help." "I need access to the cultural and scientific databases, can you direct me to a terminal?" he asked Horacio had almost one quality, he was respecting the hierarchy and was always ready to do a favor especially when the people were interested in Science matters. " Certainly Admiral, there is a free console over there. " he replied pointing to the other side of the lab. ~ I'm ready to do a favor but not with my console, I've work to do ~ thought he in escorting the Vulcan to the free console. " Here it is Admiral, if you say what your are looking for, I could help you more, without false modesty I'm quite an expert with Databases." Horacio proposed in throwing out his chest. Version: 6.0.601 / Virus Database: 382 - Release Date: 29/02/2004 <> (USS Spectre, Holodeck 1, CO, Captain Remae - 12.00) The Spectre had travelled the subspace river for several days, they had performed routine duties and for once, nothing had interrupted that routine. The crew had spent time with their new systems. Their orders had taken them across to the far side of the Alpha Quadrant not all that far from the border, the rivers sure did make the galaxy a smaller place these days. As for Remae, he had spent time on his personal projects and actually catching up his life. "On your marks, get set." The gun went off and Remae was in the water, swimming as hard as he could against several other holographic and real swimmers. The Bajoran sped up the first 50 meters turned and began the long return journey. He was battling hard but he realised he had set off too quickly and the closest swimmers to him were beginning to overtake him. He touched the far wall and he looked up to see he was pipped by one of the other swimmers on the Spectre, one of the science officers if he recognised her correctly. "Nice work.", said Remae between hard breathes as he hauled himself out of the pool and grabbed his towel. "You too, I had a hell of a time catching up.", she said, no sign of smugness of victory in her voice. =^= Bridge to Captain Remae, were approaching the closest exit to the coordinates. =^= "Very well, take us out.", he said smiling as he headed for the holographic shower and to change and get himself to the Bridge. (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 12.30) His hair was flat from swimming and he adjusted his uniform as he walked onto the Bridge. "Report?", he said, walking down to the command chair, as he did, he looked at the viewscreen to see they were back in normal space. They reported exiting the river some way from the systems they had been ordered to but this entire area was totally uncharted. "Bridge to Maber, I need a full scan of this region, do whatever you can to push our new sensors to their limit. CONN, engage warp drive, take us to warp 6.", he ordered as a few moments later, the ship jumped into warp. (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 13.00) The viewscreen was showing the map of the area as the scan data came in, directly ahead, a few hours away was the system they had been ordered to. The system contained several planets but they were still too far away to get an exact reading on the energy readings they had been sent to investigate. "Hold your course.", he said, as the Spectre remained at warp. (Reply from ALL) (Posted by Anthony Keen)
