Currently she was interfering with minor equipment but once she started to interfere with the lifesaving equipment in sickbay, she was putting lives at risk. She wanted to do a few things before she was "put away". The doors opened and Lono appeared. She looked scared. Rain directed the young technician at her side to distribute medical kits. "What can I do to help understand and solve this, Rain?" the FO asked when she approached. "I don't think there is anything we can do now. It's got to the point where we are putting the ship in jeopardy and need to be shielded. We have a containment area ready. I'm just finishing up." (Reply LOno) "I feel so useless." Rain said and begun to make her way to the containment area. =^=Captain to Sickbay, sorry to add to your troubles but the Marines are arriving shortly and they all need to be scanned for the, erm, infection."=^= Rain looked over at Dr Cambridge. "I wish I could hang around and help out." She said, regretting deeply that she couldn't. Together with Lono, she continued on her way. She looked up and was surprised to see a Ferengi, clutching his ears and in obvious pain. "I've come to help," he muttered. Rain wondered if she had heard right.... he looked like he needed help! "Are you sure you are ok?" she asked. ~Who knew what a nanotechnological node would do to the Ferengi four-node brain~ The ferengi nodded and Lono commented that he was the new operations officer, Gort. "Maybe you could have a go at trying to figure out the language transmitted to all our electrical equipment. I have recorded some of it on the console in main sickbay. It might tell us what is happening here." (Reply Gort, Lono, Cambridge, any) (posted by Wendy Keen) (USS Spectre, Sickbay, Kahila Lono, 16:50) When Kahila asked Rain if there was something she could do to help in the accumulation of knowledge about the nano infection, she felt keen disappointment when Rain answered: "I don't think there is anything we can do now. It's got to the point where we are putting the ship in jeopardy and need to be shielded. We have a containment area ready. I'm just finishing up." ~Containment! Of course, it's obvious that is needed.~ Kahila shivered, wrapping her arms around herself for just a moment, then forced herself into a more relaxed stance. She nodded to Rain. "I'll do whatever the medical experts think is best." "I feel so useless." Rain said and begun to make her way to the containment area. Kahila sighed in sympathetic agreement and began to follow Rain. Kahila listened to Rain's comment to the CMO, after the Captain's call to sickbay, regarding the incoming marines. Rain looked over at Dr Cambridge. "I wish I could hang around and help out." Then the two made their way to the contamination area. (USS Spectre - Contamination Area - Kahila Lono- 1702) Kahila forced herself not to let despair show in her expression. ~It looks almost like a prison cell! So bare. Just chairs and a tray of food and water. Just the necessities. I'll think of it as an exercise in primitive living.~ She realized there would of course be no computer access. So that meant no way to contribute to any work that the crew was doing. And none of the entertainment, distractions that she, and nearly everyone, took for granted. Horacio Tyrell was already there, pacing up and down the floor. Kahila thought that if she had to watch him do that for hour after hour she'd find not yelling at him very very difficult! She tried to catch his glance, to offer a supportive smile. But he seemed oblivious to everyone around him. Rain took a seat. "Anyone for "I Spy"?" Kahila met Rain's gaze, and laughed. "Now that's an attitude I appreciate." She said to the ACMO. (reply contaminated inmates, medical staff) (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 16.50) "Sir? Request permission to leave the bridge and study the effect the Nageri mission away team are having on our systems." Remae looked over at the Ferengi and nodded, "I'll need you back up here as soon as we get confirmation about the planet and Lt L'Tal whereabouts." (Reply from Gort) The CO looked around at the depleted numbers of Senior Officers on his Bridge, apart from the ACEO, Ensign Longfellow, everyone else was either in Sickbay or doing their Duties. "Ensign Longfellow, take the OPS station please, we'll have to try and find L'Tal on our own, see if you can scan anything around where we think he could be." (Reply from Longfellow) "Helm, bring us into a low orbit.", ordered Remae as he wanted to try and as close as he could to assist the sensors. "Mark, can you scan for the Marines why you are at it? I want to make sure they have a clear return to the station.", he said and he opened a channel to Sickbay. "Captain to Sickbay, sorry to add to your troubles but the Marines are arriving shortly and they all need to be scanned for the, erm, infection.", he said, waiting for acknowledgement and closing the channel when he had it. (Reply from Gort, Longfellow, Sickbay, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre: Sickbay - TAC/SC Orde - 16.51) Lt. Orde found himself in Sickbay, immediately after his last action. ~And fully armed, too,~ he thought ruefully. Seeing Doctor Cambridge in an full envrio-suit, he spoke up. "Doctor, Lt. Orde reporting as ordered." (Reply Cambridge, ACMO) (Posted by Lenox) (USS Spectre, Bridge - OPS Lt Gort - 1652) "I'll need you back up here as soon as we get confirmation about the planet and Lt L'Tal whereabouts." Gort displayed his sharp teeth in a wide grin, "Yes sir." The Ferengi was about to tap his comm-badge and call for a replacement for the Operations station when the Captain beat him to it: "Ensign Longfellow, take the OPS station please, we'll have to try and find L'Tal on our own, see if you can scan anything around where we think he could be." Gort waited for the engineer to reach his station and gave him a quick run down of the current sensor sweeps he was running before heading into the turbolift. (USS Spectre, Sickbay - OPS Lt Gort - 1655) Entering the medical fort Gort was momentarily overwhelmed at the sheer volume of movement and noise before him. Instinctively reaching to protect his ears the Ferengi immediately recoiled in pain as the tricorder he'd been carrying collided with his skull. He dropped the sensor, which hit his foot and bounced into the inner recesses of the Sickbay. Barely controlling his desire to curse, Gort proceeded to hop into Sickbay, clutching his injured head and foot. "I've come to help," he muttered through clenched teeth. (Reply Longfellow iyw, Sickbay, any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, Sickbay - OPS Lt Gort - 1653) "I've come to help." For an instant Gort felt like laughing at the disbelief he saw in the Doctor's eyes as she asked, "Are you sure you are ok?" Gort merely nodded and gingerly tried to put weight onto his throbbing foot. "Maybe you could have a go at trying to figure out the language transmitted to all our electrical equipment. I have recorded some of it on the console in main sickbay. It might tell us what is happening here." Again Gort nodded, and limped into the main sickbay area to find out more about this mysterious language. "Computer, catalogue each individual symbol within the sample stored on this terminal." The computer acknowledged the request as the Operations officer located his tricorder where it had landed on the floor. ~And in the meantime, let's see what effect that EM field has on your circuits.~ (Reply from any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, Sickbay - OPS Lt Gort - 1657) Gort snapped closed his tricorder, a look of concern crossing his brow. "Computer, isolate this console from all main computer pathways until further notice. Authorisation code, Gort Alpha Gamma Two Three Five." He was ready to tap his comm-badge and report his findings to the Captain when the Chief Medical Officer called them all over toward the containment bays. (USS Spectre, Sickbay - OPS Lt Gort - 1705) Gort aimed his tricorder solidly at the gathering of 'infected' crewmembers whilst the CMO summed up their situation, his stern countenance more than a match for the gravity of the circumstances. "..Now, can anyone help me understand what is going on here? Mr Gort, you got anything? Rain? Anyone?" Gort took a step forward, cleared his throat and gave his report to the Doctor. "The EM signature this nanotechnology generates isn't just interfering with our technology. As some of you may have noticed when you get too near to a console or a PADD there are clear, distinct symbols present that may be random but given the clear structuring to them I'd be more inclined to say that it's a language of some sort. I've got the computer working on translating it." He turned to address the 'infected'. "The other thing you should know is fairly obvious, but as the nanotechnology expands the field is gaining strength. I've been monitoring it for just these last few minutes and I'd estimate that you'll overpower the forcefield generators within an hour." (Reply from Cambridge, Anderson, any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre - Contamination Area - ACMO Anderson - 1702) Rain looked around their new "home" with a grimace. Someone was thoughtful enough to provide four chairs, not comfortable ones, but enough to avoid sitting on the floor. There was also a tray of food and some water. ~My kingdom for a replicator~ she thought Horacio Tyrell was pacing up and down the floor and Rain was sure she could see a worn patch in the carpet already. She took a seat. "Anyone for "I Spy"?" (Reply Tyrell, Lono, any) (Posted by Wendy Keen) (USS Spectre - Containment Area - ACMO Anderson - 17.05) Rain was trying to come up with a good "I Spy" but it was proving difficult as the room they were in was very spartan in its furnishings. ~C for chair.... C for containment field....C for crazy science officer.....~ Before she could come up with one, she noticed Cambridge approaching the clear forcefield separating the containment area from main sickbay. He looked pretty grim. With him were the ferengi, Gort and a number of other science officers and researchers. "We have been affected by something unknown. By best estimations, thanks to Rain, we've got nanotechnology on our hands. We have things to combat it. The problem we are running into is that it is found at the base of the hind brain. And whatever it is, is growing slowly. And affecting equipment. Right now you are shielded on all sides, top and bottom." He pointed to the containment units. "In about ten minutes we are going to move you to the secure medical bay in shielded units. There are more acceptable accommodations there. Our sensor team is working on the data right now. I know you have questions, but we need to dig a little deeper. We are in a medical emergency and under a contamination and hazardous occupancy alert. All officers in Sickbay and the Secure Medical Bay are required to wear level 1 hazmat uniforms. Reports are to be filed on the five, and the condition our our patients and friends is to be monitored at all times by the nurse squad. Understood? Good. Now, can anyone help me understand what is going on here? Mr. Gort, you got anything? Rain? Anyone?" he said. Rain had lots of things to say, but before she could, Gort spoke. "The EM signature this nanotechnology generates isn't just interfering with our technology. As some of you may have noticed when you get too near to a console or a PADD there are clear, distinct symbols present that may be random but given the clear structuring to them I'd be more inclined to say that it's a language of some sort. I've got the computer working on translating it." ~My thoughts exactly~ He turned to address the 'infected'. "The other thing you should know is fairly obvious, but as the nanotechnology expands the field is gaining strength. I've been monitoring it for just these last few minutes and I'd estimate that you'll overpower the forcefield generators within an hour." ~Quicker than I thought, but not unexpected.~ Rain was visualising what was happening at the base of her brain, when Cambridge spoke again. "What if...we slow down the nanotechnology?" he asked. "Suppose, for a moment if we chilled the patients to slow the nanotechonology so we can further understand this..." Cambridge turned to Gort. "Thoughts?" Rain didn't like the sound of being "chilled" but she liked the idea of causing a ship-wide electronics failure even less. "It might work, but on the other hand their natural functions may be inhibiting the spread of the nanotech. By slowing the organics we may be giving the technology an advantage and speeding up the reaction we'd hoped to decrease." He'd been pacing away from the Doctor and chose this moment to turn back, "On the other hand, I *can* tell you my best guess as to what will happen with we do nothing, so I'd say we don't have much choice." "Can you get me a full analysis of the radiation signature coming from them? There may be a way to isolate and target the technology. Either way I have a very bad feeling about the way it's reaching out and implanting something into our hardware - but perhaps that's something best discussed more privately, and with the Captain." Rain felt totally helpless locked away from the "action" and she felt that everyone was talking around her and not to her. She couldn't decide whether to cry or get angry. (Reply any) (Posted by Wendy Keen) (USS Spectre, Sickbay - OPS Lt Gort - 1709) The Chief Medical Officer absorbed Gort's report with impressive speed, and immediately being searching for a way forward. "Suppose, for a moment if we chilled the patients to slow the nanotechonology so we can further understand this... Thoughts?" Gort mulled the idea over in his head before replying to the doctor. "It might work, but on the other hand their natural functions may be inhibiting the spread of the nanotech. By slowing the organics we may be giving the technology an advantage and speeding up the reaction we'd hoped to decrease." He'd been pacing away from the Doctor and chose this moment to turn back, "On the other hand, I *can* tell you my best guess as to what will happen with we do nothing, so I'd say we don't have much choice." Either way I have a very bad feeling about the way it's reaching out and implanting something into our hardware - but perhaps that's something best discussed more privately, and with the Captain." Gort hoped he'd managed to convey the seriousness of his findings without alarming the people within the containment area. His gaze locked with that of the CMO he waited for a response. (Reply from CMO, any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 17.10) "Computer, show me a list of the current infected crewmembers.", said Remae looking around at the increasingly barren Bridge. The list scrolled by, a few of his officers were on the Contamination area, others, working in Sickbay were working on the problems. He'd been monitoring the channels in Sickbay and although no one had told him what was going on, he knew that Lt Gort's predication of less than an hour before the force fields began failing and all their technology was going to be vulnerable wasn't one he relished lightly. "Ensign Longfellow, get down there and see if you can increase the output of the force fields in the Contamination Area, let's see if we can buy ourselves some more time. Also, reroute any crucial systems in case they fail.", said Remae, effectively ordering his last senior officer off the Bridge. (Reply from Longfellow) The CO took the OPS station from the ACEO, they'd been conducting an intensive scan of the area of the planet they suspected to find L'Tal and despite what else was going on, he had to keep looking. The ACEO had been running a grid by grid scan of the area and Remae continued his search pattern, the area was small and it wasn't long before the sensors, localised, managed to find some life signs, although they were masked, they weren't going to escape a full blown intensive scan from a Federation Starship. "Computer, analyse these results and report." << One Vulcan, One Romulan and several life signs are indicated >> "Perfect.", he said, spinning his head around the Bridge. "Crewman, erm.", he said, looking at the young woman next to him on the CONN station. "Mehlinger.", she said with a heavy accent. "You have the Bridge.", he said, looking totally serious and nodding to her, he headed off and to Sickbay. ~ Don't blow the ship up while I am away ~ (USS Spectre, Sickbay, CO, Captain Remae - 17.25) He walked into the Medical Facility to see several things going on at once. "Report.", he said, looking at the assembled officers. (Reply from All in Sickbay) Remae listened to report and progress, his next stop was the Contamination Area to check on the officers there. "Lt Gort, Lt Cambridge, I can't have the Spectre disabled, not with what's going on with the Romulans and who knows what else, if you can't find a solution to the possibility of all our systems going offline, I want you to prepare a plan to evacuate all infected members of the Spectre to the planet below. give yourself enough leeway, I don't want a mass panic if we have to follow this plan, understood?" The CO looked at both of the Officers as they replied before tapping his badge. "Ensign Tyrell, can you report to Sickbay, we need you here as soon as possible.", he said, before heading away.
