He was starting to lose count of the conflicts they were getting themselves into. He supposed it was how war was, but he didn't like it. They had managed to stabilize nearly everyone. Two patients were coming out of surgery in the next few minutes, and thankfully there was no further complications. Maxwell moved to his office once more, finding piles of PADDs, files and random requests. Slowly he began to sort through them bit by bit, getting order out of chaos in a slow process that nearly threatened to drive the good doctor mad. Suddenly Rhea Edison busted into his office, startling him out of his studies. "Doctor, we've got a problem." He raised an eyebrow. The tone in her voice told him nearly everything he needed to know. She proffered a PADD and he quickly ran over the information. "Oh dear God..." Standing quickly, he made for the door. As he exited, he grabbed Edision. "Declare Medical Emergency..." He was about to finish when the klaxons began to ring as instructions for all medical crew to report to sickbay. Cambridge headed for the cabinet, grabbing a hazard material suit and starting to put it on. He shouted out orders. "Get contamination areas set up in here folks! Go to Hazard Contamination Codes! Adjust the sensors all over sickbay and this deck to start looking for whatever the hell that is." The suit sealed behind him. It wasn't a what he had used to inspect the alien, but it would prevent something from getting inside to him. The material was strong, but loose enough to allow movement around the sickbay. Cambridge was in full alert, his mind whirling from the events. Whatever was going on, it was very bad. Whoever had been on the Nageri Ship and not suited could be in severe danger. Maxwell wasn't even sure what he could do to combat whatever the hell it was. But he needed information, he needed facts. And he needed them quickly. Spotting Rain, he moved to her. "Anderson, Cambridge. Report..." It was then that a science officer made a beeline into the room. "Sirs, you've got to do something, I'm dying, I've catched a disease in examining the alien samples. I's terrible." Cambridge groaned. He didn't need two problems on a ship already doomed. "Explain Horacio and make it quick." "Well, first all the equipment in the science lab began to act crazy, strange symbols have appeared on the display, then my tricorder so I've asked the computer and it has reply that the samples were generating a EM field and the worse part, it has contaminated me as well." 'Mac' nodded. This was the same thing that was going on all over the place. Just then, Edison shouted from across the room that the first containment unit was active. The Chief Medical Officer nodded to Tyrell. "I need you to calm yourself for a second..." "No, I'm not gonna calm myself, I know that EM field can have terrible effects on human bodies including teratologic effects. You've got to help me." Cambridge shook his head. If it wasn't one thing, it was the other. "EDISON! Get Horacio into that containment unit. Horacio, we're going to help you, but I need you to help me by listening very carefully. We're working very hard to find out what is causing this, but I need you to help me make those people in there calm and understanding. Get it? Now go!" The doctor turned back to Anderson, a very concerned look on his face. "I need you Rain and very badly. What can you tell me...and better make it fast until the next panicked patient runs in here..." (Reply Anderson, Rain, any) (Uss Spectre, Sickbay - Science Officer Horacio Tyrell - 1635) "No, I'm not gonna calm myself, I know that EM field can have terrible effects on human bodies including teratologic effects. You've got to help me." Horacio said in a state of panic. The CMO shook his head. "EDISON! Get Horacio into that containment unit. Horacio, we're going to help you, but I need you to help me by listening very carefully. We're working very hard to find out what is causing this, but I need you to help me make those people in there calm and understanding. Get it? Now go!" The authoritarian tone of Doctor Cambridge had directly an effect on Horacio, he began to calm down " Understood Sir. " and he followed the medic to the containment unit. (Uss Spectre, Sickbay, Containment area - Science Officer Horacio Tyrell - 1730) Almost one hour later, all the crewmembers who had been inside the Nageri ship and those who had been in contact with the alien samples were isolated in the containment area, the place was beginning to be a little overcrowded and Horacio had moved in the back. He was sitting on a crate, listening to the different explanations concerning the effects of the nanotechnology and to the solutions exposed to get them out of this place. Then the Captain came in " We're working on a way to get you out of here, as soon as possible but I have to warn you, it won't be long before these force fields fail and this area of the ship will be vulnerable. We're protecting as much of it as we can, but, if we can't find a way to stop this, I have no choice but to evacuate all infected crew to the planet." Horacio wasn't enjoying very much the idea of being send to the planet, a planet where one of their shuttle had already crashed and where the CONN Officer had disappeared. ~ You've got to find something Horacio, for god sake think, remember the courses you had at the Academy ~ thought he while he was trying to remember the content of a talk he had read about the EM waves and their effect. Then the Ops Officer came up with an interesting idea, it was about splitting the infected people in smaller group to decrease the EM gradient. It was a good idea but it wasn't resolving the source of the problem, how could it be possible to block those EM waves emitted by their bodies. Then Horacio had a 'flash', he remembered the content of the paper about EM fields. He stood up and raised his voice " Hum, I've perhaps an idea." (Reply any) " I just remembered something I've read at the academy concerning the effects of EM waves and how it was possible to block it. If I remember correctly it was written by Professor Eisenduller, I was so panicked when I've discovered the symptoms that I had completely forgotten about him. In some ways it's simple, Professor Eisenduller had built some kind of Energy stimulator, which is a device used for the reduction of the effects of electromagnetic fields on the human body. The energy stimulator, by equalizing the level of energy in all acupuncture channels (meridians), offers protection against the influence by restoring the overall energetic balance and harmony of the human body." he explained (Reply Rain, Lono) " According to the literature, it's very simple to build, it's made with ceramic disc and several magnetic substances placed in a precise, mathematically defined spatial arrangement. All this could be fitted in a armband, with that we should be able to block the emission of EM field from our body and retrieve a normal use of all the equipment. There is just two problems, first I'm not sure it will work and second who is going to build it, all the Science team has been infected. " Horacio exposed (Reply Rain, Lono, any in containment area, any) (Posted by Patrick Buidin) (USS Spectre, Bridge, Kahila Lono, 16:35) Kahila listened to the Captain's orders-- they were much as she expected: "Understood Commander, initiate medical emergency all decks and call in all Medical Officers, I need to know if this is infectious and spreading among us. I'll be there shortly. Remae out.". Kahila tapped her combadge to a ship-wide channel, and said: "FO Kahila Lono transmitting orders from Captain Remae. All medical officers report to Sickbay. Medical Emergency declared." (NRPG I don't know if the nano would affect combadges or not. ??) RPG She was relieved to see the Captain walk onto the bridge a few minutes later. She felt a terrible sense of helplessness at not being able to access any electronic equipment. ~Anyone suffering from this infection is almost useless so far as crew assignments are concerned.~ He said to her: "Get yourself to Sickbay, Kahila, let me know what's going on down there as soon as possible.". Kahila nodded, meeting the Captain's concerned look. Then she walked briskly from the Bridge out to the corridor to the turbolift. Only then did she really acknowledge to herself that some strange growth had taken root in her body, and that it might have more consequences than those affecting electronics. She felt cold and shaky at this sudden unknown danger. In the turbolift, she stood, arms pressed tight against her body, and took two deep breaths, trying to relax. It helped very little. As she walked through the door into Sickbay, she saw Pierce, moving just ahead of her. She caught up with him, and said, "We haven't seen one another lately. Now it seems we'll be here together for a while." She smiled a wry smile. reply Pierce ~I wonder if this is some deliberate plot by the Xenolithe, or something in the nature of the Nageri ships themselves.~ Kahila walked over to Rain Anderson, waited a few moments while the doctor spoke with a technician. Then she said, "What can I do to help understand and solve this, Rain?" ~I'd certainly like to be doing something. Not just waiting, feeling helpless.~ (reply Orde, Rain) (USS Spectre, Transporter Room, CO, Captain Remae - 16.35) =^= Captain, I'm transmitting Major Drizzt's message. A moment ago I issued an order to Ensign Rak'han per Drizzt's request. =^= Remae stepped down from the raised transporter platform and tapped his commbadge, "Understood Commander, go ahead.", he said, stepping outside the room and behind him, the storage containers they had retrieved from the now deceased shuttled disappeared and were transported to the cargo bay. =^= Spectre, Drizzt. We are on a Romulan intelligence gathering rig, I repeat: We are on an illegal Romulan station. Bring all standing Security and Marine forces to full active duty and contact the Captain! =^= "Pierce!", said Remae, grabbing the Security Chief before he had a chance to walk anywhere away from the transporter room, "The situation has gotten a lot more complicated, that derelict station is Romulan in nature." It's the one thing the Federation always feared, encroachment into the Neutral Zone of the Romulans and even worse, a full blown surveillance, easily capable of spying on the Federation. (Reply from Pierce) Just then, his commbadge beeped again. =^= Captain. I have a disturbing report from ACMO Anderson. She has reason to believe that all crew in contact with the Nageri ship have been infected with nanotechnology. I've just ordered Ensign Walker to Sickbay. I'll go there myself as soon as possible. I can wait on the Bridge until you return, but I can use none of the equipment, not even a monitor. =^= "Understood Commander, initiate medical emergency all decks and call in all Medical Officers, I need to know if this is infectious and spreading among us. (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 16.45) Remae appeared on the Bridge and quickly walked over to the Commander. "Get yourself to Sickbay, Kahila, let me know what's going on down there as soon as possible.", he said, nodding to the First Officer. (Reply from Lono) "Helm, align us over the co-ordinates I sent and commence a scan, I want to know what's in that area.", he said sitting down in the command chair. They still had to find out where Lt L'Tal had gotten himself too. Kidnapped or not, they had to know. "Spectre to Drizzt, Major, get back here as soon as possible and get you anyone who went onboard the Nageri ship down to Sickbay, we have an infection which looks technological in nature spreading around the ship. I'm sending what we have so far to you.", said Remae, watching the planet change position on the screen as the Spectre realigned her position. Remae looked at the small screen on one of his computer arms; it was a message from Anderson regarding Ensign Wells, the message read that the Ensign wanted to see him. he simple sent an acknowledgement; that would have to wait for later, when he had more staff on the Bridge! Should she seal herself away from everyone and everything? Before she could do anything, an alert klaxon sounded and a shipwide medical emergency was declared. Rain was about to move to the supply area to start distributing the emergency medical packs, when DR Cambridge emerged into sickbay wearing a full biohazard suit. ~Oh, thank god!~ "Anderson, Cambridge. Report..." Rain was about to report when she was interrupted. "Sirs, you've got to do something, I'm dying, I've catched a disease in examining the alien samples. It's terrible." I have no idea what its purpose is but it has the side effect of generating a sufficient EM field to disrupt electronic functioning." Rain passed her hand in front of the nearest console and the image flickered to be replaced by the strange language. "All who exhibit symptoms are going to need to be shielded from the ship. My main concern is transmission. We need to know if these things are airborne, transmitted by touch or not infectious at all. So far the only people reporting symptoms visited the ship or were in direct contact with the Nageri in some way. Lets hope it stays that way." Cambridge nodded thoughtfully as officers began to be transported into the containment units. Shielding was being activated. Then, Sickbay would need to be scrubbed and checked before they could do much of anything. Right now, he was concerned for the solution to this problem. His mind was already thinking surgery at this point. If a nanotech cellular node was forming at the base of the hind brain, it wouldn't just go away with radiation or something. It would take removal of whatever it was. This was metal machinery. This was not going to be pleasant. "Very well. I'm not excited about this. We've got rookies handling all this mess. And you and me. That's not a good ratio to start with. You have a very short time before I'm required to put you into containment. Do what you can before 1655 and do it fast Rain." Maxwell turned, tapping his commbadge. "Surgery teams report to surgery bays 1 and 2. NOW! Sensor Teams, begin intense scan of all subjects in containment and begin to look at that data. And do it fast, but good." The Chief Medical Officer then began to scan the sickbay. Nothing registered as far as he could tell. That was so far. He hit his commbadge again. "Damage Control Teams, I need the secure Medical Bay Cleaned and Clear in the next ten minutes. Do it now and do it fast. Clean top to bottom and scrubbed. GO!" Maxwell Alexander Cambridge leaned against a sickbay bed, taking a deep breath. Whatever they were facing, it would require everything they had. And more. (USS Spectre - Sickbay - CMO Cambridge - 16.52) =^=Captain to Sickbay, sorry to add to your troubles but the Marines are arriving shortly and they all need to be scanned for the, erm, infection."=^= "I wish I could hang around and help out." The Doctor smiled thinly. "Me too doctor. Captain, send them our way as soon as they get onboard. And tel them to move like Marines. Cambridge Out." 'Mac' turned and found Rhea Edison scanning a very worried patient, someone who was going into shock. Someone who hadn't been on the ship across from them. Edison quickly directed the officer to the exam area. "I've come to help," he muttered. The voice of Gort, the ever present operations chief caught the CMO's ear. "Are you sure you are ok?" she asked. Cambridge quickly scanned the Ferengi and nodded. He was clear. "Maybe you could have a go at trying to figure out the language transmitted to all our electrical equipment. I have recorded some of it on the console in main sickbay. It might tell us what is happening here." Maxwell nodded and pointed toward containment. "Rain, now is when I order you to containment. I gotta have you alive after this. Move." He smiled and touched her arm. She was valuable, more than anyone he had under his command. (USS Spectre - Sickbay - CMO Cambridge - 1703) The entire sickbay was cleared. All patients who had been in were shipped out after being scanned by the sensor crews. Damage control confirmed that the Secure Medical Bay had been cleaned and cleared and they were now stocking it with clean beds, chairs and other things that would make a panicked crew more comfortable. Cambridge stood with a tighter crew as the silence of sickbay was the harsh reminder of the seriousness of the situation. Cambridge stood facing the containment units with officers who were unaffected around him. The marines hadn't arrived quite yet, but the Doctor knew they were on the way. Taking a deep breath, Maxwell spoke. "We have been affected by something unknown. By best estimations, thanks to Rain, we've got nanotechnology on our hands. We have things to combat it. The problem we are running into is that it is found at the base of the hind brain. And whatever it is, is growing slowly. And affecting equipment. Right now you are shielded on all sides, top and bottom." He pointed to the containment units. "In about ten minutes we are going to move you to the secure medical bay in shielded units. There are more acceptable accommodations there. Our sensor team is working on the data right now. I know you have questions, but we need to dig a little deeper. We are in a medical emergency and under a contamination and hazardous occupancy alert. All officers in Sickbay and the Secure Medical Bay are required to wear level 1 hazmat uniforms. Reports are to be filed on the five, and the condition our our patients and friends is to be monitored at all times by the nurse squad. Understood? Good. Now, can anyone help me understand what is going on here? Mr. Gort, you got anything? Rain? Anyone?" Cambridge took a deep breath. Disaster was in the air. (reply Gort, Rain, any) (posted by Sulu) (USS Spectre, Bridge - OPS Lt Gort - 1647) The Captain was back and taking charge of events. Events that had gotten considerably worse within the last few minutes. The discovery of an illegal Romulan base operating within the Neutral Zone would have been dangerous enough on its own, but coupled with the disturbing news that members of the Spectre's senior staff had been subjected to and infected by some form of nano-technology with who knows what purpose in mind. Surely the transmission of a strong EM field overriding any nearby Starfleet technology could not be the only intended effect... As if to emphasis that point, the Executive Officer walked past the Operations console on her way to the turbolift at that moment. Gort's consoles momentarily flickered, with the briefest hint of something lting beneath the static. Something alien, and strangely menacing - but also gone as quickly as it had appeared. As the turbolift doors closed, Gort's terminals returned to "normal" - or at least he hoped they did. "Sir? Request permission to leave the bridge and study the effect the Nageri mission away team are having on our systems." (Reply Remae, any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, Bridge, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 16:50) Hank looked over the workstation with a slight frown. A few small problems were being picked up by internal sensor systems and most of them were now centered around Sick Bay. Minor interference along EM bands and sensitive sub-systems were showing here and there as Longfellow worked. Pausing he glanced over his shoulder to Gort as the Ferengi spoke to the Capatain. "Sir? Request permission to leave the bridge and study the effect the Nageri mission away team are having on our systems." Remae looked over at the Ferengi and nodded, "I'll need you back up here as soon as we get confirmation about the planet and Lt L'Tal whereabouts." Gort displayed his sharp teeth in a wide grin, "Yes sir." Shaking his head in slight amusement at the grin, Longfellow turned back to his station once more as he tried to keep his teams working. "Ensign Longfellow, take the OPS station please, we'll have to try and find L'Tal on our own, see if you can scan anything around where we think he could be." Freezing in place Hank didn't move for a moment then glanced over his shoulder. On one hand Ops was almost technically under the Engineering Department but there were a number of reasons why it was kept separate. Shaking off his hesitation quickly the ensign moved over to Gort's station and watched as the other officer ran him through the sensor sweeps going on. Moving his eyes from the readings coming in Hank watched Gort as he left then looked back to the display panels with the fervent hope that the Ferengi would be back quickly. "Helm, bring us into a low orbit.", ordered Remae as he wanted to try and as close as he could to assist the sensors. Glancing over to the Captain Hank quickly looked back to the Operations Control panel and the operational priority select as he called up and enhanced the incoming sensor data on the sections being scanned. His hands hesitating now and then over the Engineering status section as he considered calling up the information there and altering a few of the priorities here and there but he resisted the temptation and simply watched over the scans. An almost groan left Hank as he watched information popping up here and there on the departmental lists under medical and some under his own department. Shaking his head he watched as the surgical teams were scrambled to alert along with sensor teams. Confirming the request automatically since it came from the department head and didn't interfere with ongoing operations Hank frowned as he noted the request for the damage control teams. Glancing to the engineering status he shook his head as he authorized a team and then two because of the emergency status of the situation. =/\= "Main Engineering to Ens Longfellow," =/\= said a voice urgently over his combadge. =/\= "Longfellow here," =/\= Hank stated simply as he worked to keep track of what was going on even as Engineering was sending a request to Ops for the team back. =/\= "Can you get Gort to send the Damage Control Teams back," =/\= the voice asked even as Hank denied the request. =/\= "-Lt- Gort is the Ops officer, and if he tells you that a team is needed by another department then you send that team," =/\= Hank stated firmly. =/\= "He took two of them," =/\= the other engineer complained. =/\= "I had one in the area already helping out and the secondary was working on systems that were of a lower priority.. besides I'm at Ops currently, out, " =/\= Hank stated firmly as he started to work on rescheduling operations around the crew people available. Grumbling silently to himself he glanced to the Away Mission status before checking back to the planetary scans. (reply any ) (Posted by Mark)
