The cloak and multiphasic shields were still working, even though they had been online for nearly three hours straight. Sam hoped just hoped they would continue to work correctly. "Ms. Chandler, how are the defensive systems holding up? Any problems in terms of their ability to withstand the gravity well?" asked the CO, breaking Sam out her thoughts. "They are still working, although, I'm not sure how long they will stay that way. The gravity is doing a number on them," Sam replied. "Make sure that you let Mr. Costello know if you need more power and where. It’s his job to keep those systems operating from this end of things," replied the captain. "Yes, sir," Sam answered, going back to keeping an eye on the readings coming from her console. She wasn't paying much attention to the other conversations on the bridge until she heard the alarm in the CO's voice. "ENGINEERING! This is your captain, please respond!" the captain said raising her voice. "If this is a joke, it isn't funny." ~This can't be good, ~ Sam thought to herself. As the captain was speaking to the FO, an alarm started to blare. [ALERT! Multiphasic shield failure. ALERT!] ~Oh boy, ~ Sam groaned inwardly. "Ms. Chandler, be prepared for evasive maneuvers. I hope that science division is almost done getting what they need about this star. Even though the cloak exists, there is a chance the Borg will know we're here," the CO ordered, "Chenoll, what the hell is going on down there? We need those multiphasic shields now." "Aye sir," Sam said already having been spurred into action by the alert. Before anyone could say or do anything another alert sounded, [PROXIMITY ALERT! SHIP MATCHING BORG CONFIGURATION APPROACHING.] "Ms. Chandler, be ready. Mr. Armstrong, do I even have to say anything? Costello, keep power coming to our cloak at full. Be prepared to shift when the multiphasic shields come back on line," the captain ordered. Sam made sure the weapons were online and ready just in case the cloak didn't work. Sam watched the viewscreen as the Borg vessel came ever closer. "Mr. Costello, I want you to cut power to everything except life support and the cloak. Lights, everything... off. The lack of an energy signature might buy some time. Be sure to shunt power to the multiphasic shields at a moment's notice. Do it as soon as we're sure Lieutenant Commander Armstrong gets to engineering!" the CO said. The entire ship was suddenly plunged into darkness as they sat and waited, praying that the Borg wouldn't detect them. Sam watched as the cube moved all around looking for them. She hoped that the multiphasic shields would come back online soon. "Ms. Chandler, prepare to bring weapons on line, get your targeting subsystems up and be ready," the captain said. "Aye sir," Sam replied typing the necessary commands into her console. As Sam was doing that, a message came in from the FO. =^=Armstrong to Bridge, captain, the shields are good to go. Tell Mr. Costello to give them some power and we should have them back! =^= ~Thank God, ~ Sam sighed inwardly. "Understood! Costello, get power into those shields." the CO ordered. With the shields back online and the Borg cube unable to detect them, it moved off and away from the Raven. "Excellent! We have what we came for. Let’s get out of here. Keep the shields and the cloak up. Warp nine out of her! Once we're clear of the area warp 7 to Starbase Geneva," the captain said. Sam watched as the small ship jumped to warp and set a course away from the star and the Borg. She was glad to be getting away from this system. (Posted by Esther) Mission: Off to Destiny, Day 36 Stardate: 2407.01.04 (USS Raven, Main Bridge, ATAC/ASC, Ensign {JG} Samantha Chandler, 1004) Sam sat at her station at tactical. After over month in deep space and living on this tiny ship, she was glad they had finally reached their destination: Starbase Geneva. She wondered what life would be like on the station for her. Even though her experience on the Raven had been short and sometimes a bit frustrating, she was going to miss it. She watched as Starbase Geneva filled the viewscreen. This was a new day for her and possibly the beginning of a great adventure. "Starbase Geneva, this is Captain Amanda Ivanovicha of the USS Raven, requesting permission to dock for repairs and shore leave," stated the CO. =^=Greetings Captain Ivanovicha, you are requested to drop any shielding, power down any weapons and submit to a level 3 scan. So far, you are classified as neutral, is that correct? =^= came the reply from Starbase Geneva. ~What in the world is going on? ~ Sam thought, a bit surprised at the level of security. "Level 3 scan? Isn't that a bit intense for security? Neutral? What are you talking about? We've been a month in deep space, I have no idea what you're talking about." the CO replied. =^=My apologies Captain Ivanovicha, Admiral Doenitz has seized control of the Federation and declared himself president. There is fighting currently going on, on Tellar as the rest of the worlds of the Federation reject his claim. Starfleet has split down the middle, we are at Civil War. You have arrived at the key base of the resistance against Doenitz.=^= ~Oh no!~ Sam thought, her thoughts immediately going to her parents and little brothers were all on Earth. She could only pray that they were okay. Her thoughts also went to her older brothers who were in Starfleet. Hopefully, they had made the right decision. The captain cut the channel and then turned to the FO, "Well, Mr. Armstrong, it seems we're going to have some choices to make, as is everyone. For now, the moniker of neutral seems apt though. Hopefully, we can figure out what's going on before we get underway." "So its seems Ms. Chandler, your new duty station is going to be interesting. I hope things work out for you," stated the captain. "It would seem that way, sir," Sam replied, but her thoughts were on her family. The captain reconnected Starbase Geneva and gave orders to dock with the station. Sam could only wonder what was going to happen next, now that the Federation was in a civil war. Her life had just gotten very complicated. (Posted by Esther) (USS Raven, Main Bridge, FO, Lt. Commander John Armstrong, 10.07) It had been a long month or so. After the Borg incident, they had functioned well. Chenoll seemed to settle in after she 'saved the ship', but the Captain chose to leave Mendez in charge after he recovered from his mild injuries. The ship had just arrived at Geneva, and the captain had just opened a channel. "Starbase Geneva, this is Captain Amanda Ivanovicha of the USS Raven, requesting permission to dock for repairs and shore leave," she asked. Soon, a voice came back, =^=Greetings Captain Ivanovicha, you are requested to drop any shielding, power down any weapons and submit to a level 3 scan. So far, you are classified as neutral, is that correct? =^= Amanda turned back and looked at John, with a puzzled look on her face. John shook his head; he didn't know anything about it. "Level 3 scan? Isn't that a bit intense for security? Neutral? What are you talking about? We've been a month in deep space, I have no idea what you're talking about." =^=My apologies Captain Ivanovicha, Admiral Doenitz has seized control of the Federation and declared himself president. For now, the moniker of neutral seems apt though. Hopefully, we can figure out what's going on before we get underway." "Yes, sir. Perhaps we should use our shoreleave to pay a visit to the commanding officer on duty," John suggested. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Raven, Bridge, CO, Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, 1008) Amanda nodded at Armstrong's suggestion to see the station CO or FO. She had planned on it anyway and then shrugged her shoulders resignedly. "Helm, follow the instructions given by Geneva, lets dock," stated Amanda grimly, no sense putting off the inevitable. She looked at the instructions coming from Starbase Geneva. "Mr. Chandler, you're to go and check in with Lieutenant Casely after we dock. You'll find him in the FOs office apparently. It’s been a pleasure serving with you Ensign," stated Amanda with a sigh. She figured they'd be picking up a replacement on the station, but now with what was going on, who knew? (Reply Chandler) Grinning weakly, Amanda touched her comm badge, "Mr. Callaghan? You are to make sure you check in with Lieutenant Casely in the FO's office after we dock. Thank you for your time aboard the Raven, it’s been a pleasure," stated Amanda as brightly as she could muster. (Reply Callaghan) "All right folks, its time for a full ship communication," with that Amanda pushed the intercom button, "Crew of the USS Raven, this is Captain Ivanovicha. We have received some instructions from Starbase Geneva and some of them may take some of you by surprise. First of all, no one carries weapons of any sort from the ship onto the station. This is to conform with our allegiance towards neutrality in the conflict. That may change, our neutrality I mean, but I need to talk to some people first. Secondly, the station crew is fully armed and the station is under a high security alert. I don't believe they'll take kindly to trouble of any kind, so behave yourselves. Otherwise, all the shops are still open so enjoy yourselves. We leave here on 2407.01.06 but expect it to be cut short, you never know what's going to happen." (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Raven, Main Bridge, ATAC/ASC, Ensign {JG} Samantha Chandler, 1009) Sam sat back in her chair to think about the recent turn of events while the captain dealt with the docking procedures. She sat up when the captain spoke to her. "Ms. Chandler, you're to go and check in with Lieutenant Casely after we dock. You'll find him in the FOs office apparently. It’s been a pleasure serving with you Ensign," the CO told her. "Yes, sir," Sam replied. "And it has been a pleasure serving with you as well, sir." "All right folks, its time for a full ship communication," the CO told the rest of the crew. "Crew of the USS Raven, this is Captain Ivanovicha. We have received some instructions from Starbase Geneva and some of them may take some of you by surprise. First of all, no one carries weapons of any sort from the ship onto the station. This is to conform to our allegiance towards neutrality in the conflict. That may change, our neutrality I mean, but I need to talk to some people first. After they docked, Sam walked off the bridge and to her quarters to pack her bags. (Posted by Esther) (Starbase Geneva, Deck 74 Docking and Processing, Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, 1101) Amanda had never seen so much red tape. She supposed that it wasn't this bad generally, that the heightened security alert had caused this, but nearly an hour to clear what amounted to 'customs' was unreal. She definitely wanted to talk to someone in command here. A quick discussion and check indicated that Casely was in charge of both security as well as the FO and that he had instituted the security protocols. Amanda decided that he would be the person to speak to, after they had temporary quarters assigned and got some food in them. Amanda turned to Armstrong, "Well John, care to search for some food that's a bit better than replicated stuff?" (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) [END COMPILE]
