Ensign Walker it had a nice ring to it. Plus he was being assigned to the USS Spectre as a Science Officer right away. Jon started walking towards his quarters at the Academy only to be stopped by two rather large marine officers. The largest officer quickly spoke to Jon, "Ensign Walker please come with us we are here to escort you to the Spectre, you are needed on your new ship as soon as possible". Jon nodded his approval and followed the two marine officers to the Academy's shuttlebay where a Trojan shuttle was being prepped for departure. Jon turned to the two marines. "So where exactly is the Spectre at this time?" The marine officer turned to Jon, "The Spectre is currently on route to a rendezvous point in the neutral zone, we will be delivering you to them and then continuing on our original mission plan." Jon nodded his head and decided that he would push the issue to much further, both marines seemed to very close lipped. Jon sat in one of the shuttles seats and waited as the vessel took off and headed for the rendezvous with the Spectre. During the trip Jon went over a PADD he had been given upon leaving the academy, it was a short message from Captain Remae Ktell, Jon's new CO, it was a quick message detailing the Spectre's current mission as well as Jon's new position on the Spectre as the Chief Science Officer. ~Wow~ thought Jon his first field assignment after the academy was as a Chief Science Officer. NRPG: Several days later. RPG Mission: The Prisoners Dilemma, Day 2 Stardate: 2406.03.10 (Shuttle 9, Ensign Walker - 11.10) Jon turned to hear the Marine officer speak. "Ensign Walker we are within transporter range of the Spectre good luck on your assignment". Jon thanked the two officers and quickly found himself transported onto the Spectre. Jon wondered where two sole marines were going in such a heavily armed marine vessel. Jon shook his head and headed for the Captains ready room to report in as per his orders. (USS Spectre, Captain's Ready Room, CSO, Ensign Jon Walker - 11.20) Jon walked into the ready room and quickly saluted his Captain, "Ensign Jon Walker reporting for duty sir." (Reply Remae) (Posted by Jason Meidl) (USS Spectre - 10-Forward - ACMO Ensign Anderson - 11.14) "That's quite a ship out there." Rain said, hoping it would be an innocuous way to start a conversation. "Oh yes," Kahila replied. "The Romulans have a great deal of engineering intelligence." The counsellor paused, and rain thought she had finished. She searched her mind looking for another question. The counsellor continued though. "There's a lot of tension and excitement right now; here, and all through the Spectre. But for just a few minutes I'd like to pretend this is just an ordinary day aboard ship, and that we're sitting here with plenty of time to get acquainted. How would you feel about doing just a bit of 'pretend'?" ~Oh no... she wants to "get inside my head! Quick... think happy thoughts.... think happy thoughts!~ Rain tried to keep a smile on her face but felt she probably looked slightly maniacal with her mixture of surprise, fear and fake smile. "For instance, we could tell each other one or two interesting things about the place we grew up. For me, that was Oahu. My family has had an estate there for three generations. Mostly cattle. Some sugar cane. I could walk to the beach in twelve minutes. I lived there with my grandmother and my aunt and uncle. The field work was done by robots; we were the first estate on Oahu to go robotic -- not counting government owned land of course; the first experiments of Robotic labour on Oahu began there. My grandmother was against it -- she was a true traditionalist. And my uncle had the most horrible time talking her into it. She always said that if my grandfather had still been living, he would never have agreed." Kahila gave a small laugh. "Occasionally, it's good to revisit the past. But not of course, to dwell there. Just to re-connect with the people and places that helped make us who we are today." Rain thought she saw a moment of apprehension cross the counsellors face, but she dismissed it quickly, knowing the subject of "reading human emotions" was not one of the ones she excelled at. She knew it was her turn to talk and she tried to find some nice things to say about her past. "You paint a lovely picture of your home. I never visited Hawaii when I was on Earth. It was one of those things I meant to do but didn't. My parents also owned their own business and I'd love to say it was something noble or productive but nothing could be further from the truth. They owned a "Pleasure Palace" on Risa. They preyed on the vices of alien races from every corner of the galaxy in order to make a living. I was quite a disappointment to them, but they did grant my wish to attend school on the other side of the quadrant. Something I was most grateful for! I haven't seen them for a while. They didn't approve of my choice of career." Rain managed a small laugh, appreciating the irony that her parents would much rather have a dabo girl in the family than a doctor. The counsellor looked a little shocked and Rain regretted being so honest. "I'm.... I.... I'm sorry... that sounded really awful, I bet??" (Reply Kahila, any) (Posted by Wendy Keen) (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 11.15) "Captain, we are picking up a Federation Long Range shuttle, entering sensor range.", reported an officer on the Bridge. Remae looked over the sensor boards, the shuttle had received clearance from the Romulans to enter the Zone, it looked like they were ferrying a new Ensign to the ship. "Very well, as soon as their passenger is aboard, tell them to get out of here, the ship is going to be departing this area and I don't think they want to be around on their own.", said Remae. A few moments later Kahila entered the Bridge and Remae handed the ship over to her after quickly mentioning the shuttle's new arrival. "I'll be in the Ready Room.", he said, nodding and heading into his own private office. (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 11.20) "Ensign Jon Walker reporting for duty sir.", reported in the new arrival to the Spectre. "Ensign, welcome aboard the Spectre, at ease please.", said the Bajoran Captain. He indicated to the always deteriorating couch, and the Ensign had a seat that sent little bits of fluff onto the floor. Remae accessed the computer terminal and brought up the biography of Ensign Walker and had a look through, and the orders that Starfleet Command had sent along with him. "Ensign, I am granted with the authority to promote you immediately to Ensign Senior Grade and you are herby assigned to the ship as our Chief Science Officer." The Captain lent over the desk and passed the new pip, still in its case, to the new CSO. "Congratulations Ensign." (Reply from Walker can go here, if you want) "I am afraid I don't have much staff for your new department Ensign, your ACSO is currently off the ship at a research centre, we do have a Science Officer available, Ensign Horacio Tyrell. Apart from that, you'll be basically building your department from the ground up." (Any replies from Walker) The CO sat back in his chair and quickly outlined the situation to the CSO. "The Spectre is currently working together with the Romulan Ship 'Red Claw'. Both our governments have decided to work together in a mission that has been called 'The Prisoners Dilemma'." "Can we trust them? Are the leading us into a trap?", said Remae, not really wanting answer, "The area of space we are heading in is one nasty region, ion storms, nebulae, sensors are going to be limited to say the least." Smiling, he turned back to Ensign Walker. "Ensign, get your gear away and then report to your department, check things out and then, I want you on the Bridge, we'll need to get their sensors online. Check with Engineering and if you need anything, speak to the First Officer, Lt Lono." Standing up, Remae extended his hand. "Welcome aboard Ensign. Dismissed.", said Remae, nodding to the new arrival as he left the Ready Room. (Any final questions from Walker can go here) Remae look at the clock, it was time to get the ship moving, they had a mission and it wasn't going to be easy. (Reply from Walker, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre, 10-Forward, 11:17) As Kahila listened to Rain briefly describe her family life, the thought ran through her mind, ~I really made a mistake here, suggesting we talk about our past, to take our thoughts away from the grim present. I had no idea . . .~ "I'm.... I.... I'm sorry... that sounded really awful, I bet??" Rain said. Kahila quickly gathered her thoughts, centering on her counseling experience, and replied, "No, it didn't sound awful at all. It sounded open and honest on your part. I respect that, Rain. And as well, I respect your assertiveness in making your own decisions at such a young age." She smiled. "I'm sorry if my suggestion made you uncomfortable. I was being rather selfish I suppose, in wanting to take my mind from the tense situation here." Her hand touched the phaser she wore, strapped to her belt. "I find it reassuring to have these, though it saddens me. It's not what I expected on a Starfleet mission. But it is part of the greater reality. And I've learned I can be a warrior when necessary." Kahila didn't mentioned that she'd also learned she could enjoy it. She quickly finished drinking her cinnamon milk. "I sincerely hope we have time for another talk again soon, Rain." reply Rain "I should get back to the Bridge now. The greater reality of duty" Kahila smiled wryly, then stood, and made her way to the recycler, placed her cup on the conveyer, then went out the door. As she entered the turbolift, she thought. ~I wonder if I should take Pierce up on the offer of those little ball berrings.~ (reply Rain, any) posted by Josephine Goodman (USS Spectre, Personal Quarters, Commander Richard Kevel - 11.20) Richard Kevel sat in his room, his eyes running over the reports, crew list and other information he had deemed valuable to this mission. He hadn't been active in the last few days, instead minding himself to his corners where he could gather what information he needed from what sources. The mission ahead signaled a change in idea for Starfleet and Kevel had little problem with it. He enjoyed combat and the thirst for fire. He felt a shift in the ship and smiled thinly. The ship was slowing and preparing for the search. The commander stood and headed for the bridge. (USS Spectre, Bridge, Commander Richard Kevel - 11.30) The bridge was quiet, save for the beeps and assorted small conversation going on between officers as they carefully watched the screens, looking for a threat to deal with swiftly. Spotting Captain Ktell in the middle chair, Richard headed there and sat to the man's right, nodding to Remae. "Captain, I figured now was a good time to make an appearance."
