Instead he sat and stared at the drink, losing himself in the bubbles as he tried to frame his thoughts. “I have always tried to be a good officer, Captain. It has not been easy, even among Andorians I was rather… hot-headed. It has not been easy working with so many different races. It has been frustrating, but I have worked hard to concentrate on getting the job done and maintaining a professional outlook where I could. “Commander T’Vhor has made direct reference to specific thoughts that I have not voiced to him or anyone else.” (Reply Remae) “His briefing was rather vague. It was frustrating to be called in to receive information only to find very little information being given out, and I’m certainly not the only one in that room who felt so. Commander T’Vhor came to Engineering later in the day and made specific reference to my frustration at the lack of information in his briefing. He knew the emotion and he knew the cause!” Lifting his gaze to stare imploringly into the Bajoran’s eyes H'Chir finished be saying, “He violated me, Captain. Violated me and undermined every effort I’ve made to keep a professional front on my career aboard this ship.” (Reply Remae) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, Sickbay - CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 1135) "I have always tried to be a good officer, Captain. It has not been easy, even among Andorians I was rather. hot-headed. It has not been easy working with so many different races. It has been frustrating, but I have worked hard to concentrate on getting the job done and maintaining a professional outlook where I could." Remae was listening to the CEO tell he explanation of having being violated, the Bajoran was sitting back and listening carefully. "Commander T'Vhor has made direct reference to specific thoughts that I have not voiced to him or anyone else." "I see," said Remae thinking that he couldn't imagine the First Officer scanning the mind of one of his officers, "Continue," he said simply. "His briefing was rather vague. It was frustrating to be called in to receive information only to find very little information being given out, and I'm certainly not the only one in that room who felt so. I held my tongue, went to Engineering and began the task of bringing the ship up to readiness for an unknown. Commander T'Vhor came to Engineering later in the day and made specific reference to my frustration at the lack of information in his briefing. He knew the emotion and he knew the cause!", said H'Chir his mood darkening. "He violated me, Captain. Violated me and undermined every effort I've made to keep a professional front on my career aboard this ship." "Indeed," said Remae, "Otherwise I would have not asked for you upon this ship. I always thought a strong Chief Engineer to be an asset to the ship," as Remae thought once more upon the issue. "I will look into it, Ensign - but I need you to keep your anger in check, otherwise we're not going to be able to help you. is that clear?" said Remae sounding authoritative. (Reply from Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre, Deck 7 – ACEO, Kyla Angeletti - 1421) Angeletti sensed a certain air of hesitation from T'Vhor after she had made her request. She could only hope he wouldn't put her off, that he would recognize there may be something amiss. Her breath stopped in her chest as she anxiously awaited his response. =^="I can meet you now if you wish Ensign", said T'Vhor. "I am en route to Stellar Cartography as we speak, perhaps you can meet me there", he added. With those words Kyla's breathing resumed. She took off down the corridor to the turbolift, tricorder in hand. "Yes, sir. I'm on my way there, now." (Reply T'Vhor iyw) (Posted by Sondra) (USS Spectre, Stellar Cartography – ACEO, Kyla Angeletti - 1425) Barely even noticing the massive glass screens around her as she entered Stellar Cartography, looking for Lt. T'Vhor. She spotted him gazing up at one of the screens. As she approached, he turned to face her. "Ensign Angeletti", said T'Vhor, "What can I do for you?" Kyla came to halt and started to speak. "I just discovered an explosive device hidden among the conduits in an access way near the auxiliary power generators." Being part Vulcan, T'Vhor was good at keeping his cool, but Kyla could see that he was worried by the look in his eyes. She could tell his mind was searching for words, as concern overcame him. "The device is now safe yes?, have you told anyone else about this?" said T'Vhor. "Yes. I disabled the device and damaged it so that it cannot be reactivated. I left it in place so as not to alert the persons responsible that their little 'surprise' has been discovered. You are the first person I've come to with this matter. I have not talked to anyone else." "Were there any indications in your scan that there may be more of these devices?" said T'Vhor. Angeletti nodded as she began to speak. "The signal generated by the device would suggest that there are more onboard the ship. Due to the placement of the device I've already discovered, I would say that whomever planted it wants the power to disable the Spectre at a moment's notice." Angeletti paused briefly, and stared into nothing, as she plotted a course of action in her mind. "When I return to my station, I'll scan for other explosive devices. The only way to detect them will be to look for the same signal patterns that I found in the first one. The device was using a power source independent from the ship's power sources, making it nearly impossible to detect." "It would be a wise precaution to repeat your scans at random intervals", said T'Vhor. He then turned his gaze back to celestial bodies he had been looking at when she first arrived. "Yes, sir," Angeletti replied. Kyla watched T'Vhor, as he seemed deep in thought, and wondered if he had anything more to say. She patiently awaited an utterance from him. It did appear he had something more to say. "The Captain will have to made aware of this of course, as eventually will the senior crew, I will approach Captain Ktell with the information & consider our options", said the FO. Kyla stood for a moment and looked at her surroundings. She thought it strange how pictures of space on a screen could be beautiful. The last time she had thought so highly of the stars, she had been home, on Earth, laying on her back, watching the night sky with her friends. Kyla's mind drifted back to the matter at hand. She acknowleged Lt. T'Vhor, then turned to walk away. "Ensign Angeletti", T'Vhor called out. Kyla halted and swung around to face T'Vhor again. "Good work, I will be sure to mention your involvement in this to the Captain", said T'Vhor. "Thank you, sir," Angeletti said with a nod, then exited the room. (Reply T'Vhor iyw) (Posted by Sondra) (USS Spectre, Ten Forward – CEO, Ensign H'Chir – 1823) A dark shadow clouded H'Chir’s thoughts. He stared moodily into another untouched glass of Andorian ale barely noticing the thrum of the lounge’s other occupants. Something he couldn’t ignore was dark cloud approaching his table from the other end of the room. “Ensign H'Chir, I am to escort you to sickbay on the Captain’s orders.” Without lifting his gaze H'Chir said in a low drawl, “I saw the captain earlier in the day and neither of us were of the opinion that I am ill. What disease am I supposed to have, mind-walker?” Lifting his gaze and looking into the Vulcan’s eyes he added, “Ready when you are, sir.” (USS Spectre, Sickbay – CEO, Ensign H'Chir – 1833) “How can I help you gentlemen? Captain?” It was difficult to know where to stand. The First Officer and the Counsellor were stood at opposite ends of the room, making it impossible to move away from one without moving closer to the other. In the end H'Chir opted for standing to attention, in as relaxed a manner as he could, and calculating cube numbers until one of the senior officers had explained the situation to both him, the Doctor and the Counsellor. (Reply T’Vhor, any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, Sickbay – First Officer T'Vhor – 1834) With Ensign H'Chir now having been escorted to sickbay, the man stood flanked by those who had arrived also looking unsure as to exactly why he had actually been brought here. "The Councellor will explain the reasons for your having been brought here", said T'Vhor, "he will then liase with the Doctor in order to assess your current situation & treatment, if indeed it is warranted", he added, turning to the Councellor & the Doctor in turn as he spoke. (Reply Lronen, Any) (Posted by Alan Reading) (USS Spectre, Sickbay - CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 1835) "How can I help you gentlemen? Captain?" asked the Doctor and Remae looked over at the assembled crew, with H'Chir in the middle, looking like a trapped animal, he simple stood to attention. Remae looked around, this isn't what he wanted. persecution, finger pointing and the general sense that someone in the crew was being singled out. "At ease, everyone. H'Chir, we're worried about you, that's all - the Doctor is going to take a look at you and the Counsellor is going to have a chat with you, that's an order, Ensign," said Remae looking at the storm brewing inside the Andorian. "T'Vhor," Remae said simply before he could get into an argument and left the men to their work as he and the FO stepped outside. (USS Spectre, Outside Sickbay - CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 1840) "Commander, H'Chir told me about your briefing and in future conversations, you made reference to his thoughts and feelings, I think he believes you read his mind, is that true, accidentally or otherwise?" asked Remae, keeping his command presence as large as he could. (Reply from T'Vhor) "That's what he believes, we don't need this distraction right now, we are about to embark on a crucial mission for the future of the Federation - get back in there and try and sort this out, you'll need to make sure the Counsellor is happy with the state if the CEO's mind and also, make sure the CEO doesn't believe you or anyone else is trying to set him up and on top of that, make sure he is fit for duty. I don't envy your position but it's the job of the First Officer to sort out these types of crew situations. good luck," said Remae and slapped the FO on the back as he headed for the turbolift and back to the Bridge. (Reply from T'Vhor, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre, Sickbay - First Officer T'Vhor - 1841) With the situation regarding Ensign H'Chir now in the capable hands of the Doctor & the Councellor, the Captain motioned the FO out into the coridoor to speak with him. "Commander, H'Chir told me about your briefing and in future conversations, you made reference to his thoughts and feelings, I think he believes you read his mind, is that true, accidentally or otherwise?" asked Remae, keeping his command presence as large as he could. "My briefing sir?" said T'Vhor questioningly, "I merely felt dissention within the room, a feeling of....Boredom sir", he added. "I did not have a lot of information to impart during the briefing as you know but I certainly did not scan anyone, I am well aware of the moral laws concerning telepathy & have always adhered rigidly to them", said T'Vhor. "My arrival in engineering with the second officer to be confronted with the apparent rudeness of Ensign H'Chir merely confirmed the source of the dissent I had felt, I then made mention that I will endeavour to make any further briefings.....less boring", said T'Vhor, his face still as unemotional as when he had begun the conversation. "I might add also that I am only part Betazoid as you know Captain", said T'Vhor, "my abilities are limited, I feel mostly emotions & would not have been able to scan H'Chirs thought's without preperation beforehand", he added. "That's what he believes, we don't need this distraction right now, we are about to embark on a crucial mission for the future of the Federation - get back in there and try and sort this out, you'll need to make sure the Counsellor is happy with the state of the CEO's mind and also, make sure the CEO doesn't believe you or anyone else is trying to set him up", said the Captain. "Aye sir", said T'Vhor. "On top of that, make sure he is fit for duty. I don't envy your position but it's the job of the First Officer to sort out these types of crew situations. good luck," said the CO. T'Vhor watched as the CO then made tracks towards the turbolift, then he turned & walked back into sickbay to find the Doctor looking through some notes whilst the Councellor explained his concerns further to Ensign H'Chir. Once Divon had finished though, T'Vhor motioned the Councellor aside to speak with him in private. "I need to know the moment H'Chir is classified as fit for duty again Councellor, your concerns aside, he is an excellent CEO & we do need him", said T'Vhor. (Reply Lronen) T'Vhor then returned to H'Chir as the Doctor proceeded to scan him with a medical tricorder. For a moment, he allowed the CMO to do his job, then once he had finished, he addressed the Andorian with a view to healing the rift that had apparently developed between them. "I was thinking perhaps, a word later Ensign", said T'Vhor, "to air your concerns, it would be illogical to continue any working relationship if you have concerns regarding my actions", he added. "We do however have to work alongside one another so we will need to clear the air", said T'Vhor. (Reply H'Chir) "Perhaps later then", said T'Vhor as he then left the CEO in the Doctors & the Councellors capable hands. (Reply CO, Williams, H'Chir, Lronen, Any) (Posted by Alan Reading) (USS Spectre, Sickbay – CEO, Ensign H'Chir – 1841) The Captain and First Officer had left the room and H'Chir perched himself on a bio-bed to await his fate. He was aware that the Counsellor was talking to him, explaining things to him, but he wasn’t really listening. Looking the Counsellor in the eye for the first time he said, “It was you, wasn’t it.” There wasn’t time for a reply as at that moment the First Officer returned and the Counsellor was taken aside for a few private words. H'Chir wasn’t aware how long had passed but he heard the Vulcan’s voice addressing him: "I was thinking perhaps, a word later Ensign; to air your concerns. It would be illogical to continue any working relationship if you have concerns regarding my actions. We do however have to work alongside one another so we will need to clear the air." A derisory snort was the most fitting reply H'Chir could give, but he followed it by adding, “You’ll have to ask my jailor when I can expect to be allowed out of Sickbay.” “Perhaps later then.” For a moment H'Chir wondered whether he’d pushed too far and hurt the First Officer’s feelings, but a quick reminder of his pointy-eared heritage put that idea out of his head. (Reply any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, Sickbay - COUNS, Divon Lronen - 1845) As he was lead away from H'Chir, he heard the Andorian accuse him of something, probably turning him in. He resisted the urge to look back and accuse H'Chir of reading his thoughts and using telepathy but felt that the humour would be lost on everyone right now. And for certain the point would be lost on an increasingly paranoid and erratic H'Chir.   Divon looked at Doctor Williams and then looked back at H'Chir.   "Doctor, I just want to rule out that there is some neurological problem. He's become paranoid and accusatory. He claims that both T'Vhor and myself have violated his mind. No one needs to have psychic powers to see what he's feeling, his body language and face are easy to read. He burst into my quarters yelling about T'Vhor. His behaviour has been erratic. I'm hoping that there is a physical explanation for this. If you could, check to see if anyone actually has probed his mind. It could be that he's been 'checked out' by an alien influence or someone else and he's lashing out at us because we're closest," stated Divon with no small amount of concern.   (Reply Williams)   "Sir," Divon said to T'Vhor, "I have no desire to keep a good engineer off duty, however with his current behaviour, I have no choice. I'm certain you can see the logic in this decision."   (Reply T'Vhor) (Posted by Jeff) (USS Spectre, Sickbay – CEO, Ensign H'Chir – 1846) Left alone for the first time since his arrival in Sickbay, H'Chir watched the Counsellor walk over to the Chief Medical Officer. It was clear his question had startled the Betazoid. ~Probably doesn’t think I’m smart enough to figure out who’s behind this farce!~ The group were only a few feet away, and it was difficult for the Andorian not to here the progressively supposition-based rendition of his supposed symptoms. The only thing that kept him in his seat was the surprisingly glib and flippant way the Counsellor cast his opinions about in-front of the assembled Sickbay without heed of privacy or security. The bare-faced cheek left H'Chir paralysed in his seat. As soon as the senior officers had left, the doctor and counsellor approached his bio-bed and H'Chir immediately leapt to his feet. His antennae splayed apart, he was braced for battle as he locked his gaze on the doctor and said in as controlled a voice as he could manage, “You do realise that most of what he’s said is either lies or supposition. I never mentioned T’Vhor in his quarters, and I’ve never accused him or reading my mind without permission. Although now I’m starting to wonder… “The internal sensor logs will confirm what I’m saying. Perhaps you ought to be checking his mind for signs of alien influence. Divide and conquer. Abusing a position of power to exact vengeance for wounded pride, or perhaps to deprive the ship of one of her senior officers during a crucial mission. Not very pretty, either way. It’s your call Doctor.” (Reply Williams, any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, Main Engineering – ACEO, Kyla Angeletti - 1933) "Nollys to H'Chir or Angeletti, please let me know if you find anything on the debris that might be useful in the way of my scans." "Sure thing. I'm on it," Kyla responded quickly, then prepared for the transport of the debris. "Thanks, Nollys out." Kyla ran several scans which took her no longer than a few minutes. When she had finished and was sure her analysis results were correct she informed the bridge crew. "Angeletti to bridge. Due to the components of the alloy and the ionic signature of the debris, I have determined that it is most possibly fragments from a Klingon vessel." (Reply: any) (Posted by: Sondra) (USS Spectre, Bridge - First Officer T'Vhor - 1955) After scheduling a meeting for 07:00 with the senior crew the following morning, the FO called for status reports from all departments. With the reports coming in green across the board however, T'Vhor cast his mind back to the incident with their possible sabateur. Thinking briefly on the subject he then stood & headed towards the communications officer to quiery him. "Have we monitored anything out of the ordinary transmission wise since we left Geneva Ensign?" said T'Vhor. The Comms officer looked up as the FO spoke, then he returned his attention to his console to check the communications logs. "No sir, nothing amiss, only standard subspace communications & one scrambled priority one transmission to the captain", said the Ensign. T'Vhor paused in thought once again as he ran other possibilities & scenarios through his head. "Any unusual emmisions in the EM band, internal transmissions other than normal comms traffic?" said T'Vhor, at which point the Comms officer ran spectral analysis scans on all known frequencies. "Nothing sir", said the Ensign, "It might help if I knew what you were specifically looking for though sir", he added. "Never mind Ensign, inform me if there are any anomolous readings as, when & if they occur", said T'Vhor as he returned once again to the command chair. "Understood sir", said the comms officer as he returned also to his routine work at the comms station. (Reply None, Any) (Posted by Alan Reading) Stardate: 2407.01.15 (USS Spectre, Mess Hall - COUNS and StratOps, Divon Lronen and Commander Tahlmari - 0600)   Divon strolled into the Mess Hall to meet Tahl for an early breakfast. The meeting would be at 0700, this gave them plenty of time. Divon saw the Commander and walked over to the table.   "How are you this morning, Sir?" Divon punctuated the 'sir' so it was both odd sounding and serious at the same time.   Tahl looked up to see Lronen walking towards him. He took a big mouthful of the spicey omlet, still trying to get the rancid taste of what was supposed to have been his toothpaste, out of his mouth. Oh he knew who was responsible, alright, he just had no idea how he managed to get through his security codes and gain enterance to his quarters. Perhaps he had slightly underestimated this counselor. He had to give the devil his due, and gave Lronen a smile, showing his blackened teeth. A color in which Tahl had absolutely no idea how long would last.   "Counselor," Tahl nodded, "care to join me for breakfast."   Divon stifled a laugh as he nodded and sat down. "So what's good this morning?"   "It's hard to tell," Tahl said, offering the chair across from him, "everything appears to taste like rotten eggs. However, if you put enough spice on anything, it can override the gag reflex. I can order you up some of what I'm having."   Divon grinned wildly. "No, that's okay. I'm sure I can find something suitable for my own palate." With that, he ordered Eggs Benedict and waited for it to arrive. "How are you finding the crew is dealing with our present situation? I'm sensing a lot of nervousness, and a lot of people in our crew are concerned that they may no someone on an enemy ship, but productivity doesn't appear down."   Tahl swallowed another mouthful of the spicey omlet and nodded. When he caught his breath he replied, "Indeed they are. But I believe the worst part is not knowing what's going on. It's been my experience that once a crew is aware of wht they're up against, at least they can prepare themselves. This is a good crew," Tahl continues, "and they will follow Captain Remae, through hell and back. Which, unfortunately, is what I believe they're going to have to do."   Divon nodded, "It wouldn't be the first time. The ship's mission reports read like the Wreck of the Hesperus, but Remae really hasn't been to blame for the problems in my opinion. Then Divon leaned in and dropped his voice conspiratorily low, "I've heard that all the problems on the Spectre are due to the fact that someone on the crew shot an albatross." He then winked and straightened up as his food arrived.   Tahl just about choked on his orange juice. He coughed for a moment then looked up. "Really? I heard it had been a broken mirror, under a ladder, on Friday the 13th.   "Interesting theory. Perhaps if we have the entire bridge crew throw salt over their shoulder it will help us out a bit," Divon shrugged, "I don't know, but I figure the Spectre must be due for some good luck soon, at least I hope so. I mean, our last mission ended without bumping up the ship too much."   "The ship, no," Tahl admitted, "but the crew... definitely. And not necessarily our crew, but the crew from the Phantom. Especially Captain Beal." tahl hadn't meant to let that one slip, but it still iritated him, the way Captain Remae had treated Beal.   Divon looked at Tahl for a second and then nodded slowly, "Captain Beal's situation really bothers you doesn't it Tahl?"   Tahl shrugged, "I didn't think it necessary to relieve Captain Beal in the manner in which he was relieved. I understand that the crew was ours, but the ship was Beal's. The least the captain could have done was discuss the matter and ask for the ship.   Divon nodded, he could see Tahl's point. It had been a difficult situation though and not one he envied the Captain having to take care of. "Did you speak to the Captain about it? Actually, out of curiousity, how would you have dealt with the issue?" asked Divon. This wasn't him in counselling mode, he really was curious... fascinated... he wanted to benefit from Tahl's knowledge so he could better advise the Captain in the future.   "The captain made it clear that he did NOT wish to discuss the matter with me," Tahl said with a tone of finality. "As for how I would have handled it, as I said, there would have, at least been a conversation, albeit brief. Give Beal a chance to surender command rather than just take it. Leave the man with a shred of dignity and pride."   Divon nodded. "Did you know Captain Beal?"   "Let's just say, that I got to know him," Tahl said. Otherwise, I'd only known him through the file on the Phantom.   In an obvious effort to change the subject Tahl then said, "But it seems that Captain Remae is a bit more... focused. Something has changed for him."   Divon thought back to his sessions with Remae. He hoped that was part of it... and figured that it was. "Yes, he does seem to be," was all that Divon responded, knowing he had to keep his sessions with the Captain confidential.   There was a moment of silence as they both ate their breakfast. Neither seemed to want or be able to talk further on the subjects that they had been brought up. Tahl finished and pushed his plate away. He sat back and motioned for the server. He smiled at Lronen as the sever came to the table.   "Was everything prepared as I asked?" Tahl inquired.   "Exactly as you ordered Commander Tahlmari," the server replied, looking a little guilty.   "Excellent," Tahl said, "excellent, Thank you very much. Your reward will be taken care of immediately."   With that the server smiled widely and went on his way. Tahl looked over at Lronen. "I hope your breakfast was to your liking counselor. But I believe we must be off to the staff meeting."   Divon raised his eyebrows. ~Oh no, here we go again. What did he do? Or was this just a psych out?~ Divon didn't batt an eyelash and ignored the discussion completely, knowing that it was from reactions that Tahl gained his enjoyment. "Yes, we definitely should," he replied and stood up to leave.   Tahl grinned a big grin and threw an arm over the counselor's shoulder. "You know Divon, we chould really go out and paint the town red some time. I think we could have a lot of fun together."   Divon nodded and smiled as the pair walked to the meeting. (USS Spectre, Ready Room - COUNS and StratOps, Divon Lronen and Commander Tahlmari - 0650) The pair walked in for the morning briefing. They were early and knew it, but that was always preferable to late. Divon looked at Tahl's darkened teeth and fought the urge to laugh again. It was at this point that it started, silent, discreet and yet odeous. Noxious scented eruptions began to exude from Divon's body. Something had been added to the food by Tahl, and now the air began to grow more pungent in the room.   (Reply any) (Posted by Al and Jeff) -USS Spectre Star Trek: Freedom - http://www.startrekfreedom.com
