As soon as anyone else tried to approach the panel with her, the quality got worse. It seemed that Gort was right about the cumulative effects of the group. "The way I see it is we don't have anyway to know what sort of integration has happened between the node and our CNS. Transporting them out could destroy enough synapses to cause our entire autonomic system to fail before you could blink once. Having a stake in ensuring that this works, I'd like to suggest that we allow Ensign Tyrell and Ensign Longfellow to investigate their options to give us a bit more time. If we can bleed off some of the EM or block it all together with Tyrell's plan, I'm all in favour of anything that will keep my synapses in place. What do you think? Cambridge nodded slightly. He would need to get a deep scan of Rain's hind brain and understand what was going on. If it was simply a matter of removing it from the area with transporters, the doctor was ready to do it in an instant. However, if it was attached there would be further problems if it spread beyond where it was located right now. "I doubt we can completely block the EM, as it will continue to grow until it does some serious damage to this ship or worse, you. I'm going to need to investigate your brain Rain..." He shifted on his feet uncomfortably. "I hope to remedy it with sensors and scan, but I may have to do a local..." (rain) Maxwell nodded. "Whenever your ready. I can have the containment field follow you to the exam area." (reply ACMO, Gort, any) (posted by Sulu) (inside cavern of imprisonment, K'tara, 18:35) K'tara gazed out through the small aperture in the stone door -- provided so kindly by her captors, she thought, spitting as she always did when considering them. It was especially galling to see how they'd stripped her ship and made obscenely primitive use of beautiful Romulan technology. She watched as the Starfleet captain -- a Bajoran-- and his officer strode into the village. Several vile epithets came to mind -- and were ready to roar out of her mouth. Then she stopped herself. ~Perhaps these Starfleet people have an available ship. If I can convince them, they could get me out of here! Out finally!~ She took a few moments to compose herself. Looking down, she realized how filthy she really was. ~How strange that I haven't noticed until now. What have I been thinking of all this time?~ She wondered. Then a stream of ghastly fantasies wove through her mind. ~Ah yes. Well. That was pleasant enough. But now's my chance to get back into space, perhaps find a ship of my own people.~ She coughed, then called out, "Captain! Over here! Please. These uncivilized natives have me locked here in this filthy cave. You wouldn't believe how long I've been here. Please, hurry!" (reply Remae) posted by Josephine Goodman <> (Planet's Surface, Native Village, CO, Captain Remae - 18.35) "Captain! Over here! Please. These uncivilized natives have me locked here in this filthy cave. You wouldn't believe how long I've been here. Please, hurry!" Remae was walking with Rak'han, L'Tal and their new hosts, the native people from the planet, whose leader he had learned was called Beratim. "Beratim, we'll be happy to take her with us, I understand she has been a burden on you, we know where to find her people." Nodding, he silently gave his consent to unlock and release the Romulan woman. "Lt L'Tal and Ensign Rak'han, escort our new visitor back to the shuttle, I need a moment to speak to Beratim." (Reply from L'Tal, Rak'han, K'tara) They took her away, carefully, it had been many years since she was able to leave, Remae wondered how well the Red Claw and Commander Talath would feel about taking back one of their citizens after all this time, especially given his past with the Federation. "Beratim, we have a medical problem that is effecting a number of crew, can we have permission to bring some of them down to the planet but away from your village? I can assure you they won't harm you in any way.", said Remae putting on his diplomatic hat once more. (Reply from Beratim) The Bajoran produced map that covered the area that he scanned on the way in and over the next few moments, they worked out potential evacuation zones, even though, Remae hoped that they wouldn't need them. (Reply from L'Tal, Rak'han, K'tara, Beratim, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre, Shuttlebay, CO, Captain Remae - 18.45) They were back. Remae helped K'tara out of the shuttle and into the main hangar. "Computer, activate the EMH.", said Remae, as exited the shuttle, everyone else would be busy and he didn't want to distract the Medical Teams. "Please state the nature of the medical emergency.", said the EMH, appearing in the Shuttlebay thanks to the fully installed holo-emittors on all decks. "This is K'tara, she's been on her own for sometime and she needs cleaning up and from the looks of it, a good meal. Please take her to Sickbay.", he said to the projection of light. (Reply anyone wanting to play EMH!) "Lt L'Tal, please head for the bridge and take charge, Rak'han, you're with me.", said Remae, closing the door to the shuttle as maintenance teams worked on her, preparing her for the next mission, whatever that maybe. (USS Spectre, Sickbay, CO, Captain Remae - 18.55) The CO walked in and wasted no time, he walked up to the first person he could find and said, "Report?" (Reply from first to reply!) They'd had close to an hour to come up with a strategy, whatever they were going to do, it had to be soon. (Reply from All) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre, Shuttlebay - Emergency Medical Hologram - 1845) The universe fizzed into existence around him and he automatically called out "Please state the nature of the medical emergency." How he hated those words!! Just once he'd like to appear and shout "Boo!!" - just once. Was it too much to ask?? Calling up the current personnel lists he identified the speaker as Captain Remae Ktell even as the Bajoran stepped forward and said, "This is K'tara, she's been on her own for sometime and she needs cleaning up and from the looks of it, a good meal. Please take her to Sickbay." The look the hologram gave his commanding officer could have melted neutronium, "I'm a doctor, not an escort." Sighing audibly he looked to the Romulan identified as K'tara, "This way, if you please." (NRPG: Room for more here iyw) (USS Spectre, Corridors - Emergency Medical Hologram - 1848) As they moved through the corridors of the ship, the EMH began questioning his newest patient. "Are you in any pain?" (NRPG: Room for more here, too) (USS Spectre, Sickbay - Emergency Medical Hologram - 1854) They arrived a split second before the Captain strode through the doors. ~Well, my services were certainly needed here!~ Instad of bothering the unusually high complement of staff within the Sickbay area the EMH gestured to a vacant biobed and said, "Take a seat - It's time to see what we're dealing with." (Reply K'tara, any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, shuttlebay, K'Tara, 18:45) K'Tara had been silent during the shuttle ride, paying little attention to the talk among the Starfleet officers. It had been a disorienting experience, being in a spacecraft once again, after spending so many years imprisoned in a filthy cave, with no access to technology. How many years had it been, really? She wasn't sure. She had kept careful track of days and nights for five, or maybe six years, then had slipped into . . .fantasy. K'Tara knew she'd have to regain her focus before she was turned back over to her own people. She would not last long on a Romulan ship if she didn't! After the shuttle rendezvoused with the ship, the captain touched her arm, urging her out of the small craft. K'Tara's instincts screamed at her to push her fist into his face, and then run. She felt a shudder roll through her body, as she stifled any such movement. The Vulcans were right about some things. At times, instincts must be suppressed. And this was one of those times. Likewise, she stood impassively, when the captain called a Holographic creature into being. But she nearly gasped with surprise when the entity actually spoke to the captain. Romulan society sometimes made use of such slave entities. But they were never given the ability to speak. Why would even the Federation do something so completely illogical as give speech to a slave, she wondered. Then she realized. ~This creature must be part of some Federation plan. This will be the means to get information from me. Of course! That's why they brought me here. This entity -- it will be a means of torture, it will do things the squeamish officers themselves don't wish to do.~ When the captain gave her into the Hologram's keeping, K'Tara was even more convinced that she had guessed what was going on. The tone of voice the entity used was obviously a way of playing with her mind, letting her think it had a consciousness of its own. She refused to dignify their game by replying, when the entity said to her "This way, if you please." Nor would she give the Federation officers the satisfaction of looking back at them, as she followed the Hologram down the corridor. K'Tara kept her gaze on her surroundings, memorizing the route she was taking. She had never been aboard a Starfleet vessel, and she'd need to recall the exact route if she were to escape. And she would escape! She had to. The Hologram asked her, "Are you in any pain?" "I know how to bear pain," she replied, certain that the captain must have ways of listening to her through the slave entity's senses. The Hologram led her into a large laboratory space. Obviously, an area devoted to devious kinds of experiments. A moment later, the captain himself arrived through the doors. ~I should have broken free while still in the corridor! I may not have another chance. I'm thinking too slowly. All that time in the cave has played havoc with my concentration.~ The Hologram gestured her toward a bed with various experimental or torture devices attached and said, "Take a seat -It's time to see what we're dealing with." K'Tara refused to get near the device. She stood proudly and said, "Is your information on Romulan technology and society so out of date that you think I'll be useful -- after I've spent years on a primitive world?" K'Tara was not of course deigning to speak to the Hologram. She knew the captain was listening through the creature. (reply EMH, Remae, any) posted by Josephine Goodman <> (USS Spectre, Sickbay, CO, Captain Remae - 18.55) "Assistant Counsellor Felicity Wells reporting for duty sir." The Bajoran looked up at the familiar face before answering, he had received an update about the medical situation, the time had come to separate the contamination inmates to different parts of the ship, someone had mentioned more than one way to get this done without effecting parts of the ship but the Bajoran suspected that the best way was just to shut down areas of the ships the crew would be passing through. "Counsellor Wells, can you assist Doctor Cambridge and work together to relocate a number of the sick forward and the rest aft of the ship, Mr Longfellow, shut down the areas of the ship they will pass through.", and then he said adding a quick personal note, "Felicity, we'll talk more later, right now, we have to see about treating these people and saving the ship!" (Reply from Wells, Cambridge, Longfellow) "Lt Gort, I need a full update on what is happening to the crew and ANY idea you have on resolving it." (Reply from Gort and room for more) Remae, satisfied with the plans, left the room for a moment, even with the EMH tending to the Romulan woman and the problems increasing by the moment, it wouldn't be much longer before no matter where they moved the inmates of the Containment Area that no ship systems would be safe. (USS Spectre, Containment Area, CO, Captain Remae - 19.05) All around the area, most systems had failed, systems reinforced by the engineers could no longer withstand the emissions coming from the infected members of the crew and it was spreading. Remae simply walked into the area and headed for the First Officer. "Commander Lono, we're going to split you up into two groups. Half are going to be placed in the far end of the ship and the other at the other end; it'll buy us a little more time." (Reply from Lono and other infected people) "We'll be flying this ship by manual before long. Keep in charge of the infected as best you can, we still may well end up moving you all to the surface." Nodding as they began to move out, Remae walked up to the Science Officer, Ensign Tyrell. "Ensign, you and Gort need to work together now to buy as much time as you can, I fear we don't have too much left. I'll be on the Bridge, I need to check in with Lt L'Tal and bring him up to speed." (Reply from Tyrell) "Oh and Ensign, I've not seen the CSO around, see if you can locate him!", said Remae heading away from Sickbay. (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 19.15) He walked on the much depleted Bridge and walked directly down to the Vulcan and quickly told him what he knew about the situation. "Mr L'Tal, put together a plan to get everyone off the ship as fast as possible, without the use of the transporter, make sure you coordinate your plan with the First Officer, I suggest converting some shuttles to manual flight, no computers." (Reply from L'Tal) Just then, the lights on the Bridge began to flicker. << Main computer core failure. switching to auxiliary units >> Remae walked over the OPS panel and studied the situation. "All hands, this is the Captain, we just lost main computer control, I want every department to switch to manual control on all systems. All departments to report in on regular intervals, Bridge out." (Reply from Any) "L'Tal, looks like you'll be keeping us in orbit by manual control. Do the best you can.", said Remae thinking for a moment before saying, "Actually, see if you can put together a plan to land the Spectre on the planet, on manual. that could be the simplest option, if we can't get the people off the Spectre, perhaps we can take the Spectre to the planet and offload them ourselves." (Reply on this crazy idea from L'Tal) "You've got 15 minutes to work on a plan to make it happen!", said Remae sitting back on his chair, landing a starship that wasn't designed to land or even enter the upper atmosphere should be an interesting addition into his resume, at least this time, he didn't plan to crash the ship! (Reply from ABSOLUTLEY EVERYONE!) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre, Sickbay, ACOUNS Felicity Wells - 18.55) "Assistant Counsellor Felicity Wells reporting for duty sir." Remae look up, the only indication of recognition being a short pause, then he said "Counsellor Wells, can you assist Doctor Cambridge and work together to relocate a number of the sick forward and the rest aft of the ship, Mr Longfellow, shut down the areas of the ship they will pass through.", Then he turned back to Felicity and added with a little more familiarity "Felicity, we'll talk more later, right now, we have to see about treating these people and saving the ship!" "Ill do my best to help sir" she said with a smile Felicity turned to to a tall man wearing a medical uniform. "I assume that your Dr Cambridge?" (Reply Cambridge) " I'm Felicity Wells assistant counsellor I managed a briefing via my personal data unit, hopefully it was enough to bring me up to speed I can start by relocating forward" (Reply Cambridge) Felicity rushed to the man she had heard the captain call Mr Longfellow. "Mr Longfellow, I'm Felicity I'm here to lend a hand, I don't know the ship very well could you please direct me with the best path to relocate the sick forward." (Reply Longfellow) "Thanks" she smiled "I'll get onto it right away" (USS Spectre, Sickbay, ACOUNS Felicity Wells - 17.30) Amongst the chaos Felicity had managed to gather some resources to help with the relocation. spotting a young ensign talking to some of the sick, she made her way swiftly over to him "What's your name ensign" she asked "Robertson" he replied. "OK, I need your help to relocate some of the sick, see the path marked with the red Lazar spot lights" he nodded "Make sure you follow that path we don't want to collide with the patients being moved in the other direction, I have organised a makeshift containment area with beds for the seriously affected those not as serious will need to make do with floor space, you will find swag facilities laid out for those patients, You'll need someone to help you. Have you got that Robertson" asked Felicity. "Yes' answered Robinson, " I can round up at least 3 others to help here" "That's the way" said Felicity She had managed to get hold of a red and blue fluoro coder used to mark provisions from the mess area. "We'll have to make do with what we have ensign, I will use the red fluoro coder to mark the more serious patients needing the beds, and the blue to mark the patients who can make do with the swags, patients with no marks will be taken to the other containment area" said Felicity. "Now get to it ensign Robertson" she ordered. ~Nothing like being thrown in at the deep end~ Felicity spotted Dr Cambridge kneeling down checking a patient. "Dr, I have no means of medically checking vital signs of the patients, most of the medical equipment has been effected. I do as a counsellor have some unusual abilities if you would trust me to sort the critical from the stable I will start right away. (Reply Cambridge) Felicity moved amongst the patients closing her eyes and running her hands a centimeter above their bodies grading them accordingly. (Reply anyone who's sick) Posted by Jen keen
