With all she knew about the human brain, she hadn't been able to do anything to stop the invasion of the nanotechnology into her neuronal pathways and maybe they never would. Her and her fellow "patients" would be forced to stay isolated from all technology... forever. She'd been on a camping trip once.... she'd cooked food on a fire once in her life and she never wanted to do it again. "I'm certainly glad L'Tal has come back on board," Kahila said. "This ship will need all the expertise available. I hadn't expected the Captain to make this decision, but I can see the wisdom of it. I think it's best if we go back to Sickbay too. We might not have time to get to the new containment area. We'll need a secure place to ride out the landing." "I agree. It could get rough from here. I don't think the ship is designed to land!" The three of them manoeuvred the stretcher out of the jeffries tube in the dim lighting. An ensign appeared carrying a palm beacon. "The new Assistant Counsellor has asked me to find you, there's something she would like you to see." "Thank you Ensign. We're on our way to Sickbay now." Kahila replied. (USS Spectre - Sickbay - ACMO Anderson - 19.50) Rain instructed some of the staff to begin work on the CSO's corpse within the containment area and she moved over to where Kahila was talking with Ensign Wells "This is Claire, She's been convulsing, she was one of the more serious infected, she's calmed now I really need you to take a look at her eyes." Wells said "Claire," Kahila said softly. "I'm FO Lono. I need to have a look at your eyes. Dr. Anderson is here also. I know you're frightened. We'll do everything we can to help you." Rain couldn't help but stare at the pulsing light emanating from the young woman's eyes. It almost seemed to be shining from her pupils. Out of habit, Rain went to reach for a tricorder, before remembering they had all been removed from the area... and them. "If this is caused by the nano infection, it's the first instance I've seen of it. And it's certainly a remarkable change in its manifestation." Lono said. Rain looked carefully at the young woman's eyes. She seemed to be lapsing in and out of consciousness and Rain wondered if this fate was going to befall all of them. She knew that Claire had been part of the first detachment to the Nageri ship. They hadn't had a chance to fully catalogue all of the "patients" and their interaction with the Nageri, but maybe they needed to. "We should secure ourselves," Kahila said, after the first heavy jolt. Rain grasped the biobed and tried to learn as much about what was happening to Claire by pure observation. (USS Spectre - Shuttlebay/shuttle - ACMO Rain Anderson - 20.16) All of the infected crew were assembled in the shuttle waiting to be disembarked to the planet. Rain wanted to cry! All the technology at her disposal could not help her. She hoped that the manual controls of the shuttle were not going to be affected by the nanotechnology, otherwise it would be a very short trip. Kahila took her seat and Rain prepared to leave. She checked again to make sure Claire's stretcher was firmly stowed. Suddenly Kahila seemed to slump. "There's a Romulan hiding in the back. She's unconscious now, but use caution. Take her to the Spectre's brig." ~That was the last thing I expected to hear!!~ she thought. Two security officers moved in and took the unconscious woman from the shuttle. The trip to their new "home" was short and the shuttle settled down in a small clearing. "There are emergency supplies in the back of the shuttle, and stowed beneath the seats. Everyone begin off-loading," she ordered. Rain picked up the boxes of ration packs and began to hand them to crew members at the doors. ~I hate ration packs!~ (Reply any) (Posted by Wendy Keen) (USS Spectre, corridor near Shuttlebay, K'tara, 19:35) K'tara had found a hatchway leading to one of the tubes the crew used when moving from deck to deck, when the lift wasn't available. When she emerged, unsure for a moment how near she might be to the shuttlebay, she heard the shipwide communication from their captain. ~So, they're going to land this massive ship! I hope the fools don't crash. If I can get to a shuttle, I'll be able to take it as soon as the ship lands. I just wish I had some kind of weapon. Well, my hands and feet may be enough, if need be!~ She saw a contingent of security guards, and stepped back quickly inside the tube. After they'd passed, she went to the shuttlebay door, and peered inside. A few crewmen were hurrying to secure the shuttles and equipment, then they moved toward work stations, to fasten themselves in for landing. As they were busy with this, K'tara worked her way around the edge of the bay, hiding herself behind pods and cargo. Finally, she reached one of the shuttles, and slipped inside. posted by Josephine Goodman (USS Spectre, Sickbay, CMO Cambridge - 20.00) Things were never what they were supposed to be. A nice posting on a large space station with many officers and sickbays to monitor and take care of. Maxwell Alexander Cambridge sometimes wondered what he was doing in the position he was in. A Medical Officer, he wasn't in the best of places. Out of options, out of time and out of ideas. Whatever was threatening his officers was annoying the living daylights of out him and the fellow medical staff. And all of this was happening in the midst of a patrol in dangerous territory with Romulans' of sketchy personas. When it rained, it poured. In Starfleet, it flooded like a tsunami on some serious drugs. They were landing =^=All hands, this is the Captain, shut down all systems, all computers, take us to standby-power mode. All senior officers, to report to the main Shuttle bay.=^= Cambridge growled as he quickly left sickbay and headed directly for the main shuttle bay. He was starting to wonder if this would be his last posting before being blasted from the planet by the green fire of the Romulans. (USS Spectre, Main Shuttle bay, CO, Captain Remae - 20.15) "Commander Lono, take all the infected people in a shuttle, manual mode, to the surface. Cambridge, setup a medical unit down there and take anyone you need. Ensign Rak'han, provide security for them." Maxwell nodded and began to plot his next move on the PADD in his hands. The setup would have to be secure, but not so closed that people became claustrophobic and started going crazy. Cambridge didn't need that. "As soon as this party is off the ship, we'll begin repairs on all systems, Longfellow, you will coordinate that." The CMO focused on the PADD. The equipment would have to be low impact technologically speaking. A moment later, most of his plans had been confirmed. Whatever happened next was anyone's guess. (planetary surface, temporary encampment, CMO Cambridge, 20:35) They had arrived safely and were now finishing up the setup process. The medical area was increasingly looking like an old earth operation. Cambridge took a moment to breathe deeply. He was concerned. And he had not much of an idea how to solve the problem. He turned to the medical staff around him. Young and unknowing. And very scared. Maxwell moved towards Rain, speaking in low tones when he was close enough. "Next move?" (posted by adelay) (reply ACMO, Any) (USS Spectre, Main Engineering, ACEO, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 20:00) A low moan of protest echoed out from the support frame of the ship's lower areas as a hull that was never meant to land had suddenly been pressed under the weight of itself. The gravity of a planet was something the Spectre's frame wasn't created to take fully nor was it used to the kilos per square inch pressure of atmosphere. The sudden heating of entry followed by the uneven cooling of the hull caused patches of yellow to come across on the large display board in main engineering and Hank glanced them over with a frown. "Look at along here," the ensign next to him said and Hank nodded silently as his eyes looked to the red and orange areas where the other man was pointing. "Thrusters are down to 10% in some areas but others survived. We still have damage reports coming in," someone called out from behind Longfellow as he nodded absently. "IDF generators took a beating, primary is off-line and backup is damaged, SIFs are down here and there but maintaining most of their integrity over all, along the bottom of the hull they're under constant pressure now and the rest are straining into yellow and red in some cases," another person reported. Hank's eyes lowered for a moment as he focused on listening instead of looking when the system wide message from the Captain came through. =/\= "All hands, this is the Captain, shut down all systems, all computers, take us to standby-power mode. all senior officers, to report to the main Shuttlebay." =/\= "Power down everything except for the SIFs and give them total priority except where further damage maybe caused or loss of life may occur. Keep the impluse reactor chambers going to give us power enough for them but go through and power down whatever else you can, rig the little back up life support units and draw in what we can where we can from outside… I'll… I'll be in the main shuttlebay," Hank stated firmly except for the hesitation at the end. Turning slowly he limped towards the doors as the rest of those in engineering watched him silently. Normally a planetary landing for a ship that wasn't made for it meant that it would be scrapped due to the extreme loads placed upon it. If the SIF went off then there was a chance that the ship would 'sag' under it's own weight in a normal planetary gravity. And if the areas around the major structural members were damaged down to the substrate then they could only be repaired by phase-transition bonding using a transporter assembly jig at a major starbase. (USS Spectre, Main Shuttlebay, ACEO, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 20.14) Walking with a stiffness to his joints the relatively young engineer slowly stepped through the doors into the Main Shuttlebay to join the others. PADD in hand he moved to lean against a wall until the Captain showed up then limping slightly he moved to take his normal parade ground stance. "Okay, everyone, this is the situation.", said the Bajoran, walking into the large room. "Commander Lono, take all the infected people in a shuttle, manual mode, to the surface. Cambridge, setup a medical unit down there and take anyone you need. Ensign Rak'han, provide security for them." "Yes Captain," Kahila nodded. She moved toward the nearest shuttle, followed by the members of the crew that had been infected. Felicity was instructing crewmen to move two of the seriously ill people by stretcher, including Claire, who still had a blanket folded around her energy-pulsing eyes. The infected Marines were taking another shuttle. (Reply from Cambridge, Rak'han) "As soon as this party is off the ship, we'll begin repairs on all systems, Longfellow, you will coordinate that." "Yes, sir," Ens Longfellow said with a quick nod. (Reply from anyone can go here) "Any questions?", said Remae as they looked out the planet's surface, the sun was going down and darkness was a few hours away. Hank stood silently as he waited to be dismissed along with the others. (Reply from anyone can go here) "We've bought ourselves a little time, I suggest we make the most of it, dismissed.," said Remae as the main door opened to allow the shuttle to leave, the fresh air from the planet engulfed them all. Hank looked out for a moment as he thought about the time. Sunlight would be gone for exterior work soon, but the timing of the suns rise and fall had never meant much for him. At the Academy getting used to sunlight for hours on end had been an annoyance to the ensign while night seemed to be a return to normalcy. (reply any ) (Posted by Mark) (USS Spectre, Shuttlebay, Kahila Lono, 20:15) After the landing, Kahila had assembled with the other senior offices in the Shuttlebay, as ordered by Captain Remae. "Okay, everyone, this is the situation.", said the Bajoran, walking into the large room. Commander Lono, take all the infected people in a shuttle, manual mode, to the surface. Cambridge, setup a medical unit down there and take anyone you need. Ensign Rak'han, provide security for them." "Yes Captain," Kahila nodded. She moved toward the nearest shuttle, followed by the members of the crew that had been infected. Felicty was instructing crewmen to move two of the seriously ill people by stretcher, including Claire, who still had a blanket folded around her energy-pulsing eyes. The infected Marines were taking another shuttle. As Kahila opened the hatch and swung herself in, her empathic sense immediately alerted her to the presence of someone already aboard the shuttle. The emotions emanating from that presence were strong and hostile. She knew the time had come to use her newly disciplined empathic senses for defense. She gestured for the others to remain outside the shuttle. Then she sent her psychic talents out from her body, searching, until they locked onto the target. The person was definitely Romulan, but the Romulan's mind lacked the coherence and strength she'd expected from one of that species. Kahila's psychic senses enveloped those of the Romulan, and finding a mental place of deep exhaustion and fear, Kahila played upon those, closing the other mind down, trapping it inside itself, senses gone dark and comatose. Momentarily tired herself, she leaned against the seat, then turned to one of the security officers, and said, "There's a Romulan hiding in the back. She's unconcious now, but use caution. Take her to the Spectre's brig." Two officers drew their phasers, and searched for the Romulan, then carried her out. Kahila was a bit surprised to see she was female. Then Kahila seated herself in the pilot's chair, and waited until the crewmembers came aboard and were settled. Then, she motioned for the shuttlebay crew to open the doors. Kahila cleared the ship's bay entrance, lifted the shuttle up and out, then steadied. She gathered data through using the shuttle sensors, and, since the onboard computer wasn't working, she quickly devised a course, and used the thrusters to maintain it. She landed in a small clearing in the midst of a wooded area, as near to the Spectre as practicable. "There are emergency supplies in the back of the shuttle, and stowed beneath the seats. Everyone begin off-loading," she ordered. reply any posted by Josephine Goodman (planet's surface, near shuttle, Kahila Lono, 20:30) Kahila pressed the tab that would inflate the last tent-module. That done, the housing for the small temporary community was taken care of. "We'd better get the two stretcher cases under shelter before dark," she told one of the security officers who had been helping her arrange the modules, while the other SO's stood guard around the perimeter. Kahila was feeling strangely vigorous and hopeful. ~I think it's probably because I had the opportunity to pilot the shuttle-- piloting always gives me a high. That, and getting the area organized, was a definite improvement from the sense of helplessness and boredom of the containment area.~ When she recalled the way she'd used her newly developed aggressive empathic tactics, that felt good too. Though, she did feel a resonsibilty toward the Romulan woman. From her empathic contact, Kahila knew the woman suffered from mental and emotional disturbance. ~I will definitely make the time and opportunity to help her,"~ Kahila resolved. Then she walked over to where Horacio Tyrell was completing the job of carrying supplies from the shuttle. She said to him, "Enisgn, I hope you were able to get someone started on the development of the devices for energy equilibrium." (reply Tyrell) posted by Josephine Goodman <> (planet's surface, temporary encampment, Esnign(JG) Saurik Rak'han, 20:30) Saurik nodded as the last of the weapons were unloaded from the shuttle, he'd brought a lot of kit with him - but then in Xenolithe territory, with an Romulan observation station in orbit above his head he felt justified. He set the Security Officers to digging a trench around the encampment, whilst two of them inflated their own tents. He stepped picked up his Angel and slung it over his shoulder before walking over to where the First Officer stood directing operations, "M'am. We're setting up a preimiter and I've set Jones about equiping the marines. If you don't mind I'd like to take a team out and scout about a bit, find somewhere to hole up if things get hairy." (planetary surface, temporary encampment, Kahila Lono, 20:35) Kahila finished inspecting the two supply tents, where most of their equipment was stored. ~How strange it seems -- no tricorders! No display screens and computer access. No replicators.~ Non-infected crewmembers had used several replicators to create crates of easily stored food packets. Not exactly gourmet meals. But manageable. She went out of the tent and conferred with Rain about her plans for keeping in close touch with Dr. Cambridge and his nearby medical team. Then Ensign Rak'han approached, and Kahila turned to him. "M'am. We're setting up a preimiter and I've set Jones about equiping the marines. If you don't mind I'd like to take a team out and scout about a bit, find somewhere to hole up if things get hairy." "Yes. That's an excellent idea, Ensign. We need to prepare for contingencies," she told him. (reply any) posted by Josephine Goodman <> (USS Spectre, Main Engineering, ACEO, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 21.50) Shaking himself for a moment Hank slowly reached for the mug of jumja tea at the workstation. The sweet orange tea was cold and had been for over an hour and a half but it was the only thing Hank drank normally besides water. In the last forty eight hours he'd had less then five hours of sleep. Not that he ever slept that well anyway but it was catching up to him slowly but surely as was the ache that went through him. Moving slowly he took a sip of the tea before setting it back down and standing up. A few of the others in engineering glanced over to him as he walked towards the doors and paused by a Vulcan woman waiting at a station. "You're on desk," he said with a half hearted gesture towards the officer on duty station he'd just left. "Acknowledged," she stated simply as Hank slowly started to move outside once more. (USS Spectre, Restroom, ACEO, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 22.00) Running the water for a long moment he simply watched it as he leaned upon the edge of the counter for the sinks. "Gotta keep goin'," he whispered as he shifted and cupped the cold water. Pausing he washed it over his face for a minute then drenched his hair. He longed for the whirlpool and his bed, but time wouldn't allow such things. He moaned softly as the badge on his chest went off. =/\= "Ensign Longfellow, this is the Captain. you can start bring the systems back online now. We need the main computer online as soon as possible.", =/\= said Remae. Shaking his head in a slight spray of water Hank tapped his badge quickly. "Ens Longfellow to Captain Remae, understood. Systems will be back online as soon as possible with computer taking priority, out," he said as he stood to attention. Brushing back his hair quickly he glanced into the mirror with a frown that his collar and the shoulders of his uniform were wet, but he turned to go back to Main Engineering anyway. "Ens Longfellow to Main Engineering, system restart of main computer and all other systems in that order," he said after tapping his combadge once more and starting to walk down the corridor. "Full cold start to the core but don't restart the feeds to the nacelles yet," Longfellow said as he kept walking. (USS Spectre, Main Engineering, ACEO, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 22.03) As the doors hissed open Longfellow headed for the master systems display and only glanced to the Vulcan as she stood up. "How are damage control teams working," he asked with a frown as he looked over the blank display with a frown then moved to the desk once more. "According to what we've found out they've cleaned up after the infected crew as best we can without full systems except for the junction you requested us to leave alone," called out one of the crewmen as he walked over and handed Hank a PADD. "Did you want it cleaned up yet," he asked but the ACEO shook his head. "Leave it alone until you get clearance through Ops by both security and medical departments," Hank stated as he picked up the mug from the desk and took a quick drink. "All right, we need to get the ship on-line ASAP people, use what power you can get from the reactor we had to begin diagnostic on the computer's basic systems but remember that the support fields get priority as far as energy is concerned. We've had time to shore up here and there on the generators and the SIF conduits, but lets not forget them now," Hank called out as he half sat and half leaned against the desk. "And this isn't a normal restart of systems, clean and purge as you go I don't want anything left onboard of our little infectious stowaways," he said with a frown as he sat the mug and the PADD down to cross his arms. "A full level one," asked one of the crewmen there and Hank nodded to the Bolian. "Um… are we keeping all shifts on this," hesitantly asked a young woman off to the side but Hank shook his head. "I'm going to cycle some of you off duty," Hank said firmly as he picked up the PADD. "But we need to get the main computer running as quickly as possible to assist us in the restart of the ship so it will be after that," he said as he heard some groans here and there. "I'm not tired so this department isn't tired," he stated flatly as he stood up fully and slipped into parade ground stance. "Lets go," he said as he stepped towards the Vulcan woman once more and handed her the PADD. "Go through the schedule as best you can and weed out those that have been on duty for longer then advisable and use the badges to tell them when they need to go but coordinate with the immediate supervisors and Ops," Hank stated as she took the PADD. Pausing he checked over his engineering kit quickly. "Maintain systems, keep up with Ops reports and keep things running," he said with a glance to the engineers moving off. "I think the Ordes are working on the warp core systems already so that should be under control at least and call me if you need any assistance," he finished as he started to half jog and half limp for the doors. "Where are you going to be," the Vulcan asked as she quirked a brow. "Computer core," he called back, "And I'm not included on the list for this department." (USS Spectre, Main Computer Core, ACEO, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 22.15) Hank frowned as he looked over the subspace field for the core and cycled down through the MJL junction link data. "Upper core is partially online," said one of the other engineers from down the corridor in the systems monitor room. "I'm reading damaged areas however and partial wipes and overwrites on lower core areas," Hank muttered grimly. "Maintain watch on your equipment and keep doing diagnostics on it as you go, " Longfellow called out. "I don't want you hitting an infected zone then transferring it to the rest of the core," he grumbled as he started to pull panels and followed the protocols for the system clean up and restart. (USS Spectre, Main Computer Core, ACEO, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 22.45) "Work from the ODN backup links into the systems that have failed and see if you can get the replicators running to get us a few more of the isolinear chips and remember to wear your gloves," Hank called out as he lay on his back adjusting one of the optical subprocessors. He jumped slightly as something knocked into his foot. "Rations and water," someone said and Hank started to grunt in reply only to catch himself quickly. "Thank you," he said, even as his tricorder worked to finally clear the unit he was scanning. Reaching out he pulled himself from under the workstation and scooted over to the next panel to pull with only a glance to the bundle on the floor. He was fine on food for a few days. Taking his power pin out he started to pull the pins for the new panel carefully setting both aside before pausing for a general announcement over the systems communications systems. =/\= "All hands, this is the Captain, those of you not working on vital systems, or can be spared, turn in. report back to your posts in 4 hours. Captain out," =/\= said Remae. Hank shook his head with a frown. "Computer, log Ens Longfellow, Hank, as currently working on vital systems," he stated as he scanned the next subprocessor. << Status - Confirmed.>> reported the computer which made Longfellow groan softly. "Computer, for me please only beep for confirmations," he stated as he reset the personal settings he'd done before. The young engineer had been hoping that he could get longer breaks for his people but the fact that it had been offered was good enough for the moment. =/\= "Transmitting schedule update data to your PADD now with confirmation yet to be obtained from Ops. Repair teams are working on bridge systems along with scanning through the ODN network and the restart of the warp core is under progress," =/\= reported the crewperson as she transmitted the information. Reaching down Hank picked up the PADD and glanced it over for a moment then nodded to himself before tapping his combadge. "Good work, out," Hank said before touching the badge again. "ACEO to Ops, transmitting proposed schedule update for breaks of the Engineering department," Hank said as he used the PADD to send the data to the Ops workstation then paused as it reported an error. <> "Er… retransmitting to different workstation, sir," he said as he tinkered with the PADD for a moment then shifted to the next panel area. <> "Good. Actually sir, if you could, please give us a crack at getting in first for some isolinear chips once the replicators are going," Hank said as he pulled the panel off and set it to the side with a glance to those he'd already done. "I need to replace about 30,000, sir," he said as he started to scan the subprocessor once more then frowned. "And one subprocessor at least... sir," he added quickly as he started to remove the unit. The 30,000 sounded like a lot but for a normal core it was just over ten percent. <> "Thank you, sir, Longfellow out," he said as he picked up his PADD to add the subprocessor and it's location to the list of things to be replaced and tested.
