Our Timeline of Major Events

Note: Star Trek: Freedom's history begins before the ending of Star Trek Voyager, and several major events that occurred in canon history may differ in Star Trek: Freedom's timeline. This timeline encompasses some of the changes that have occurred and how Star Trek Freedom departs from canon events, particularly regarding the Dominion War, Voyager's return, and subsequent events.

The timeline includes both canon events from the Star Trek universe (marked with canonical event names) and game-specific events that occur within the Star Trek: Freedom narrative. For detailed accounts of the rebuilding period, see our Flashback page. For information about major battles, see the Major Battles page. For ship histories, see Notable Ships.

The USS Voyager finds a stable wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant, providing a route home. The Attack on Mars - A massive synth attack devastates the Utopia Planitia Shipyards on Mars, destroying the rescue armada being built for the Romulan evacuation. The attack kills over 90,000 people and leads to a Federation-wide ban on synthetic lifeforms.
2386

USS Spectre and USS Vampire, both Spectre class, complete construction and leave spacedock for Starbase 968.
2401
:
Maneuvering problems on Titan class ships are partially resolved. The Borg begin assimilation of the Gamma Quadrant through a wormhole connection to the Delta Quadrant. The Borg Collective makes a final attempt to assimilate the Federation through a temporal anomaly. The threat is ultimately defeated, but it marks a turning point in Federation-Borg relations.
2403

Cardassian criminal Gul Dulon leads a rebellion on Cardassia. The Cardassians attack and occupy Starbase 968. Starbase 45 is destroyed by Captain Julius Phelps, his mind under the control of Gul Dulon, who also possessed a trilithium weapon. Dulon's plan to destroy Earth's star is averted at the cost of the USS Titan and the star Proxima Centauri, with great loss of life. The Federation signs the 'Accord of Three' with the Romulan Star Empire and the Lans Confederation to set up a defense strategy against the Chudoxn. Admiral Janeway goes back in time to rescue the USS Voyager, altering the timeline to ensure Voyager's earlier return to the Alpha Quadrant.

:
Several ships mysteriously appear near Earth, including an Alternate Universe USS Spectre. The crew is debriefed and retrained, eventually assigned to Starbase Valhalla in orbit with Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards at Mars. The 52nd Fleet is officially launched. Station Geneva, USS Nimitz, USS Wraith, USS Freedom, USS Boudicca and the Cochrane Research Facility are assigned to the squadron. Starbase Geneva is completed and commissioned. Admiral Robert LoDona takes command of the 52nd Fleet.

The USS Spectre mounts an away team mission on Betazed under Captain Remae K'Tell to retrieve Debora Ansara, niece of Admiral Rodrigo Doenitz. Captain Remae suffers an accident resulting in the loss of his lower limbs. The ships of the 52nd and their Klingon allies mass for an attack on the Mars Defence Perimeter. During the battle, the USS Nimitz and USS Champlain are destroyed. The USS Boudicca breaches the defenses of Starbase Valhalla, bringing down the defense stations. The 52nd is victorious. After a brutal conflict, Admiral Doenitz is defeated, and the Federation begins to rebuild. Admiral Doenitz flees but is later arrested and imprisoned. President Rondar Nell is reinstated. The fleet operates key assets including Starbase Freedom and USS Hades, working to restore Federation influence and protect member worlds.
2408

The Federation civil war ends. However, rather than returning to exploration, Starfleet adopts a defensive posture, bringing back operations and ignoring what's happening outside its own borders. A new, less aggressive and more conservative leadership takes over. New policies direct the Federation to cease expansion, exploration and generally anything that could upset anyone else. Many worlds on the border of Federation space become exposed to attacks and are taken over by opportunists.

:
In a move that shocked everyone, Andoria departs the Federation, stating it sees no point in continuing if the union serves no purpose. Andoria closes its borders and demands the Federation return all technology belonging to them. To avoid conflict, the Federation agrees, even though it could take decades. An increasing number of member worlds start to leave the Federation, and the beginning of a general contraction commences that will continue for over 20 years.

2444
:
A crisis inside the Federation occurs, an emergency is declared. President Stiave Atremi, a Bajoran, is elected. However, many do not want the aggressive, expansive, militaristic ways of the past. On May 2nd, President Atremi meets with Admiral Remae Ktell to discuss rebuilding Starfleet and returning to exploration.
2444
:
Admiral Remae Ktell is assigned to run the newly reinvented Mars Defence Perimeter (MDP). On May 9th, he arrives at Mars to find the facilities deserted, with much of the Andorian technology removed. On May 10th, Admiral Ktell takes command of the USS Republic, an Odyssey-class starship that had been parked at the shipyards.
