52nd Fleet History

The 52nd Fleet has a storied history spanning from its formation in 2405 through periods of conflict, disbandment, and eventual reformation. This page provides an overview of the fleet's history and its role in Federation operations.

Formation (2405)

The 52nd Fleet was officially launched in 2405 under the command of Admiral Robert LoDona. Several ships mysteriously appeared near Earth, including an Alternate Universe USS Spectre. The crew was debriefed and retrained, eventually assigned to Starbase Valhalla in orbit with Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards at Mars.

The initial fleet composition included:

  • Station Geneva (later Starbase Geneva)
  • USS Nimitz
  • USS Wraith
  • USS Freedom
  • USS Boudicca
  • Cochrane Research Facility (later transferred to USS Cochrane)

Starbase Geneva was completed and commissioned, and Admiral LoDona took command of the 52nd Fleet. The fleet was assigned to operations in Sector 221-G and began planetary surveys.

Pre-Civil War Period (2405-2406)

During this period, the fleet conducted various operations and encountered several significant events:

  • The USS Nimitz disappeared from official channels for a month before reappearing at Earth to challenge Admiral Doenitz, who had tried to have her destroyed
  • The USS Mithrandir was attacked during a diplomatic mission, with the crew later regaining control
  • The USS Boudicca was attacked by two ships loyal to Admiral Doenitz
  • Admiral LoDona pulled all ships to former 'Freedom Squadron' space and sent proof of Admiral Doenitz's activities to various officials

Admiral Doenitz took control of the office of the President of the Federation, and the former President, Rondar Nell, disappeared.

Federation Civil War (2406-2408)

Admiral LoDona ordered the entire fleet further into Beta Quadrant and launched a quasi-civil war with select members of the Starfleet Admiralty. The 52nd Fleet coalesced far beyond the old borders of the Federation thanks to the Subspace River.

Key events during the civil war included:

  • The Klingon Empire officially declared war on Admiral Doenitz's regime and joined Admiral LoDona
  • Battles were fought throughout the Federation on core worlds such as Andoria, Betazed, Vulcan, and Tellar
  • Andoria was razed in defiance of Admiral Doenitz
  • The USS Spectre mounted a mission on Betazed to retrieve Debora Ansara, niece of Admiral Doenitz
  • Captain Remae K'Tell suffered an accident resulting in the loss of his lower limbs
  • The Battle for the Mars Defence Perimeter resulted in victory for the 52nd Fleet
  • Admiral Doenitz was defeated, arrested, and imprisoned
  • President Rondar Nell was reinstated

Post-Civil War Period (2408)

Six months after the end of the Civil War, the ships of the 52nd were once more sent out on peaceful missions. However, rather than returning to exploration, Starfleet adopted a defensive posture, bringing back operations and ignoring what's happening outside its own borders.

Key events:

  • The USS Dennison was all but destroyed by what is believed to be a rogue SFI vessel; the ship was mothballed and her crew reassigned to the Nova-class USS Mithrandir-A
  • Admiral LoDona and Captain Sevant were arrested
  • Fleet Admiral Jopek took command of the 52nd Fleet based at Starbase Geneva

Contraction and Disbandment (2408-2431)

Following the civil war, the Federation entered a period of contraction. A new, less aggressive and more conservative leadership took over. New policies directed the Federation to cease expansion, exploration, and generally anything that could upset anyone else.

During this period:

  • Many worlds on the border of Federation space became exposed to attacks and were taken over by opportunists
  • Andoria departed the Federation in 2418
  • Cardassia joined the Federation in 2419
  • Operations with the 52nd Fleet ended in 2431
  • Starfleet disbanded most of the fleet, spending more time with diplomatic missions

Reformation (2444-Present)

Following "The Incident" in 2443, when Earth was attacked and millions were killed, President Stiave Atremi was elected. She tasked Admiral Remae Ktell with rebuilding Starfleet.

The 52nd Fleet was reformed, beginning operations from the Mars Defence Perimeter in 2444:

  • Admiral Ktell was assigned to run the newly reinvented Mars Defence Perimeter
  • He arrived at Mars on May 9th, 2444, to find the facilities deserted
  • On May 10th, Admiral Ktell took command of the USS Republic
  • On June 1st, personnel began arriving on Mars
  • The fleet began to reform under new leadership, dedicated to rebuilding Starfleet and returning to exploration

The fleet currently operates key assets including Starbase Freedom and USS Hades, working to restore Federation influence and protect member worlds.
