Nathan, as a baby, was discovered by the crew of the USS Titan in stasis onboard the abandoned research vessel the USS Fierceheart. The identity of his parents and the whereabouts of the Fierceheart's crew - or the reason they abandoned the vessel - are still unknown.

Medical History:

Nathan suffered a severe facial injury at the age of 13 when a plasma manifold exploded aboard the USS Opus. Despite extensive surgery he still has a large scar on the left side of his face that stretches from his temple to his just below his jaw line.
